- speaker-0: I really tried to listen to the Spirit and go where the Spirit took me and listened really closely to my children, discerning their hearts, asking questions about ⁓ what they were dealing with. You know, ⁓ be very, very practical and relational with that. speaker-1: I think so often as homeschool parents, we think we're just here to protect them while they're in our home. But you guys, that is that is a lie from the enemy. Your job is not only to pre it is your job is to protect your kids, but not only. Your job is to prepare them. It's to prepare them for what's gonna come. They're in your home for a very short period of time. And then exactly what happened with your kids is gonna happen. And so we have to prepare them. So, Jack, I have a couple questions because right now I know that every parent that's listening to this is absolutely freaking out because they're going, Okay, so this is this is what I need to do, but they don't have the questions necessarily. These parents don't necessarily have the questions to ask and the and the things to shore up the answers. And so, and I didn't prepare you for this, but do you this is what I want you to do, Chuck, and maybe you already have it. Do you have a book for all those questions that you asked Brittany and all the answers to prepare them? Or can you share with our audience some of the greatest resources? Because I'm sitting here going, I wouldn't even know what questions are going to come and where to find the answers. So I know that apologetics is important. I know that that that doing all this, but what do you have some favorite resources or things that you've put out or things that you've used with your own kids? Cause I know parents are gonna want to go home with the okay, we get the importance, but now give us the the how to. speaker-0: Yes. ⁓ no, that's a fair question, Abby. And ⁓ unfortunately I ⁓ I'm not very good at answering it, ⁓ because I did not have a particular curriculum or ⁓ set of resources that I used specifically. I I I made it up as I went because I really I really tried to listen to the spirit and go where the spirit took me and listened really closely to my children. I listened really closely to what their ⁓ what their concerns were, what they were facing. I did, I did take time and get really good at discerning their hearts, asking questions about what they were dealing with. You know, ⁓ be very, very practical and relational with that. ⁓ what did you experience? One of the one of the techniques I used was what we called ⁓ question of the meal. ⁓ every every time we would sit down and have supper, I would, I would say, just about every time, I'd say, okay, it's time for question of the meal, let me ask you a question and everybody would answer And and when one person was answering the rest of the family was quiet and listening. So ⁓ there was there was a good it was good exercise in talking and listening. But the questions might be very fun, but they also might be very purposeful. Something like, where did you experience ⁓ a challenge this week with a friend or ⁓ you know, our our kids took some did we did an eclectic approach to ⁓ to homeschooling. We had they had did German at the high school and some choir at the private school and that sort of thing. So I said, What you know maybe in a class or someplace where you felt like your faith was tested. ⁓ can you just share with us and how you handled it? So that that question of Lamille was ⁓ really giving mom their mom and I, ⁓ Andrea and I, a a chance to to have a peek into their heart. And that would then feed ⁓ what we might address later on for Bible or for devotion time. ⁓ but some of the I can give you some of the resources I use. I'm gonna pull up from my apologetics ⁓ session here. Okay. ⁓ that I found incredibly helpful. ⁓ One of the books is ⁓ by Dennis Peterson, Unlocking the Mysteries of Creation. This sort of a sort of a layman's ⁓ approach to how to deal with all of the evolutionary ⁓ lies that have been told and and how they they really don't hold water. ⁓ The Privileged Planet, it's a video by Gonzalez and Richards, ⁓ not necessarily designed to promote, hey, there's an intelligent creator, but basically to say that. the the the alignment of all the tolerances for life to exist are so extreme that, you know, you gotta look outside of just materialistic causes. ⁓ they actually lost their careers because of this video, even though they didn't, you know, specifically promote ⁓ an intelligent designer. Wow Mount St. Helens seeing Noah's flood through geology is incredible. ⁓ Koin and Eah House, Chuck Mizler has a some fantastic resources there. Obviously answers in Genesis with Ken Ham. ⁓ we I I've been able to be I've had the privilege of being able to speak there multiple times and love Ken Ham's ministry and the work that he's done there, the Creation Museum. ⁓ the arc that's there is just incredible the arc encounter. ⁓ Hen Dr. Henry Morrison Institute for Creation Research. And then two two men that I have really recently been following. And, you know, I I don't align with everything that that everybody teaches, but you can glean what you need from them. Dr. Steven Meyer, ⁓ he he recently wrote a book. called the return of the God hypothesis, basically using science to say, hey, you we all know that there are some massive gaps now that are being discovered in the cosmological realm, in the in the s signature of the cell. You gotta take a look and return to the hypothesis that maybe there was somebody, a super being that actually initiated all this. So that is that has made huge, a huge ⁓ dent in even the ⁓ materialistic world of of science. And then one gentleman that I ex would extremely recommend. He's very intellectual. ⁓ his name is Dr. James Tour. And ⁓ he is a he is a a Jewish fellow who got saved by the navigators at the age of 19, entered into science, and he's a synthetic chemist. He builds molecules from the atoms up. And ⁓ he has got accidentally got roped into the origin of life debate, and he is literally destroying the materialists ⁓ for the for the last five. five to six years he's just been completely dismantling how they're prop are propagating this materialistic ⁓ approach to evol evolution of life and and how it starts. And so ⁓ i i it you gotta put on your thinking cap for him but he is he is phenomenal, just ⁓ a phenomenal resource for ⁓ maybe your ⁓ higher level teens. speaker-2: This episode of Homeschool Insights is brought to you by BJU Press Homeschool, CTC Math, and the Explorer Bible for Kids.
