Transcript
- 0:08Hi, good afternoon. Welcome Millory Condon on a
- 0:12Thursday. The Iowa Sports Radio Network,
- 0:14Trent Condon and Ken Miller for the next couple of hours to talk
- 0:17sports with you. Appreciate you starting your
- 0:19afternoon with us. If you're listening on Des
- 0:22Moines sports station one O 6.3 KX and O any of the fine
- 0:25affiliates located throughout the state or anywhere on the
- 0:28iheart app. Here's what's coming up on our
- 0:31program. We are going to start.
- 0:33Elliot Clough is going to be first up.
- 0:35All the coordinators from the Iowa football program met with
- 0:41the media yesterday. I thought some interesting
- 0:43Nuggets came out of those conversations with Lester
- 0:47Polizzi. Am I saying his name right?
- 0:50I think so I. Think so too.
- 0:52I know I got Phil Parker's name. Yes, I forgot that one.
- 0:55They they all met with the media yesterday some.
- 0:58It's pretty good. Read if you can find a
- 0:59transcript. I know hawkeyereport.com has the
- 1:02transcript posted there, so I'm sure other places have it as
- 1:06well, but if you didn't happen to listen to it, you'd like to
- 1:08read what they said. You can find it there, but we'll
- 1:11pick Elliot's brain on that when he joins us here at about 12:25.
- 1:15Then Matt Poston, who covers the Big 12, will preview a lot of
- 1:19topics with with Matt. We'll do some basketball.
- 1:23We'll do some football. How many Big 12 players here?
- 1:25They are names called early in the draft here tonight.
- 1:29By the way, happy NFL Draft round one day to those of you
- 1:32who celebrate. It gets underway tonight, 7:00,
- 1:35so we'll talk to Matt Poston. Cappy's here.
- 1:37He'll start hour number two. He had to push back from his
- 1:40normal time slot on Wednesday. He'll join us today at 1:00.
- 1:44And then finally, the head of the Polk County I club is going
- 1:50to join us. What can you tell us about this
- 1:52Trent Condon, Addison Bouton, who joined us last year?
- 1:56I want to sing right? Absolutely yes, and that'll be
- 1:59coming up here in West Des Moines.
- 2:01It will be on Wednesday, May 6th.
- 2:04You can join the I Club online. Join the iclub.com is where you
- 2:07can you. Have to be a member to go go to
- 2:09this event. You do not, OK, Do not have to
- 2:11be a member. Kirk Ference will be there.
- 2:13Jan Jensen will be there for the men's basketball team.
- 2:16Josh Sasha's going to be there and Gary Dolphin will be
- 2:19presiding over it in the spring one that's next Wednesday, May
- 2:236th. So coming up here in a little
- 2:24less than two weeks as they will have the Polk County spring
- 2:28event each and every year. Always fun and good to mingle a
- 2:32little bit with the coaches and and always hear Dolph.
- 2:34He's he'll have a he'll have a zinger or two in there.
- 2:36I wonder. How much time he's going to
- 2:38what? How many more years he's going
- 2:39to be calling games? It's a great question.
- 2:41Really don't know. I've been doing it obviously an
- 2:44incredibly long time, but a lot of people thought, you know,
- 2:47when Eddie left that maybe that was going to be it for him.
- 2:50But he's got a pretty good relationship, it feels like,
- 2:52with Pat Anger. Yeah, I think they're doing a
- 2:54nice job. Anger has been a great addition
- 2:56to that radio team, no doubt about that.
- 2:58So all right, we'll talk to to Addison Bouton coming up at
- 3:021:30, the latest on the Polk County I club.
- 3:04Trent will make some plays. Circus sports sponsor those.
- 3:06Now all draft wagering in the state of Iowa is closed, right?
- 3:10I think, I think I was one of the states that has a shutdown.
- 3:14I tried to find it on DraftKings earlier this morning and I
- 3:17couldn't. Is it?
- 3:1724 hours. That's normally, I think
- 3:19Nevada's actually even longer if you reside in Nevada, they close
- 3:23it a couple of days out, but now it is closed in the state of
- 3:27Iowa. Although calci you could
- 3:29probably I still don't understand how it's legal, but
- 3:33it is. Money laundering operation.
- 3:35Seems like it's right. I just, I don't see it any other
- 3:38way. But it's doing incredibly well.
- 3:40My God, the money changing hands on that.
- 3:43And you bet it more than sports. You can bet a whole bunch of
- 3:46stuff. If somebody wants to take your
- 3:47trade, they're going to do it. What do they keep a little
- 3:49peace, right of the action And we'll see.
- 3:53But anyways, I'm guessing Kelsey will have a very busy night when
- 3:57it comes to the draft. I saw a story about one of the
- 4:00predictions to markets. I don't know if it was Calci or
- 4:02one of the other ones. Is calci the big one?
- 4:04Are they kind of like DraftKings?
- 4:05FanDuel? There's a couple of big ones.
- 4:08That's one of the bigger ones, but I don't know which one it
- 4:11was. So you can bet on everything,
- 4:13right? Yeah, there was this guy, some
- 4:17country, I think in Europe, and you could bet on the
- 4:21temperature, what the temperature's gonna be the
- 4:23official temperature. Following day.
- 4:25At this time, at say it's 6:00 tonight, you can bet on what the
- 4:29temperature's going to be and you look at the forecast and
- 4:32it's going to be, well, it's Celsius over there. 19° was the
- 4:35betting favorite. They take the temperature from
- 4:38the. Airport, which is 67 by the way.
- 4:40Look at you, they take it from the airport.
- 4:45This guy took a hair dryer, was able to put it near the gauge
- 4:51where they have the official measurement come on, fired it up
- 4:55to 23°C and. One.
- 4:58And he got away with it. Twice before he got caught.
- 5:02Is he in prison? I have no idea, but these are
- 5:06the markets we're talking about. The manipulation that is
- 5:08happening in all these things, it feels like money laundering
- 5:12to me. Did nobody see the hair dryer?
- 5:16It was a place apparently that was not guarded, you know,
- 5:19didn't have things like that. And finally, I I don't know if
- 5:23there's a phone call to the airport or the Weather Service
- 5:24or whatever it is, whoever tipped him off, but and that guy
- 5:27had gotten away with some big money because nobody's betting
- 5:3023°C. No, of course.
- 5:32It's not going to be 4° higher at this time than what people
- 5:36are anticipating. Maybe a degree one way or the
- 5:38other. So this guy cashed twice.
- 5:39Yeah, there's no regulators, right?
- 5:41I mean, it's not state regulated, I don't think.
- 5:44Absolutely not. Anyways, well, we'll see where
- 5:47it goes. What came out of the Iowa press
- 5:50conferences yesterday with the coordinators, what we kind of
- 5:54been speculating when it comes to do 2 quarterbacks, Brown
- 5:57doesn't take chances, but he makes some throws and Klinsky,
- 6:00we got kind of reel them in a little bit.
- 6:03I took it that this race is a lot closer maybe than we think
- 6:07that it really is because. Brown is a threat, you say?
- 6:09When it went from last season, Hecklinsky takes over as the
- 6:12backup. The disappointment of the
- 6:14Indiana game from Hank Brown, he goes from that to the offseason,
- 6:18and it felt like, yeah, they're going to say the right things
- 6:20about Hank Brown to keep him around.
- 6:21They want him to be the backup and stick around the program
- 6:24because it's really young. After that, I think this is a
- 6:27real race. And if I know Kirk, and I think
- 6:31I do, I think I know the way that he would lean and it would
- 6:34be Hank. Brown Yeah, he she showed his
- 6:36hand since. He got here, you know, Lester
- 6:38talking about Hank Brown and the speed dynamic because it just
- 6:42feels like Hank Glinsky's quicker.
- 6:44He said Hank Brown's faster, Hank Glinsky's quicker.
- 6:47Probably the right way to look at it.
- 6:48You know, it goes back to the old you know who ran a faster 40
- 6:51between Nathan Chandler and Brad Banks?
- 6:54Chandler, Chandler. And you watch those two players
- 6:56play football. Think that that was the case.
- 6:58It was impossible because the quickness, the side to side
- 7:01movement, Brad Banks had him beat hugely, but straight ahead
- 7:0540 yard dash Chandler was actually a touch quicker than
- 7:07him. So I I don't know if it's in the
- 7:10same realm of that one. I just see it as this is going
- 7:13to be really close. It's going to come down and
- 7:15whoever wins the job, there's maybe going to be a pretty short
- 7:19leash on it because it sounds like Tim Lester likes both of
- 7:22those. Quarterbacks, I think he does
- 7:23too. And right now I've kind of come
- 7:26not full circle. I'm not there yet, but if I had
- 7:29to back today, I might bet Brown to start Week 1.
- 7:32I you'd probably get plus money in the betting market because I
- 7:35think a lot of people anticipate it's going to be Hecklinski and
- 7:39I might be there with you. Just reading, listening last
- 7:42night to what Lester had to say. That was my big take away, the
- 7:47Tony Diaz hype trade. Oh my God, it's just out of
- 7:49control. It it can't slow down.
- 7:51No, I shouldn't. And to have somebody like that
- 7:55on the other side of Reese van der Zee just goes up and makes
- 7:58place and carries himself differently.
- 8:00And I liked what Lester also said about both him and Evan
- 8:03James. He's the other guy.
- 8:05Is getting. A little buzz.
- 8:06They got speed, they brought in a speed element.
- 8:08The way they run routes is fast and that's something they just
- 8:11haven't had and it's really showing some of the other guys
- 8:13this is the speed that we're looking to play with and getting
- 8:15that, and we've had this conversation tons of times
- 8:18before. Yeah, but this time feels
- 8:19different. Caleb Brown was going to be
- 8:20different. Yeah, but Tony, Yeah, he did.
- 8:23You're right. Didn't work.
- 8:24Out No. Didn't work out.
- 8:26He arrived with the pedigree and it did not work out.
- 8:28Four-star receiver The plate at Ohio State is a true freshman
- 8:31and that why. He's coming to Iowa.
- 8:33He's coming to hot. This guy's going to have 100
- 8:35catches, right? Yeah, maybe 50.
- 8:37Yeah, no. Or maybe 4?
- 8:39So that's what it ended up. Wasn't very many.
- 8:42No, not at all. But.
- 8:43It does feel like this is a little bit different, but I
- 8:45think Hank Brown is very much in this race now.
- 8:47Could he be placating him? Could he tried to be building
- 8:50him up a little bit? There's no portal.
- 8:52Not like, you know, this didn't work out.
- 8:54I'm getting into the portal now. We'll see where we'll see where
- 8:57it goes, but it's fascinating to watch.
- 8:59You know, you guys, this is one of the things I'm really going
- 9:01to miss this fall is I was thinking about this last night
- 9:05that Brown versus Saklinski and then trying to figure out IO
- 9:09state. Yes.
- 9:10Good luck to you guys. Good luck it.
- 9:13Feels like we have no chance. You have no chance, right?
- 9:16Right. Because everybody's new.
- 9:18Everybody. I also took a peek at this last
- 9:21night and I know we talked about or lads having the depth chart
- 9:26up there if you want to take a peek.
- 9:27This is not official or anything like.
- 9:29That no it's it's their best guess.
- 9:30But, and I think it's a guess and I agree, I think for the
- 9:32most part across what they have. Do you know how many seniors I
- 9:37will have offensively this year? I'll guess 31.
- 9:44Wow, Jack dotesler. That's it.
- 9:46One senior on the other. This is a program that is
- 9:50predicates themselves on developmental leadership and
- 9:54then those upperclassmen, you get that opportunity, very
- 9:57senior laden throughout the years, not the case there.
- 10:00Over on the defensive side of the football, we think Jayden
- 10:03Montgomery is going to get one of the two spots and Phil Parker
- 10:06talked a little bit about that. Him and Cam Buffington probably
- 10:08I would say are the two most likely of the two linebacker
- 10:11starters. You have Montgomery, Deshawn Lee
- 10:16and that's it. Out of senior starters, this is
- 10:20going to be one of Kirk's youngest teams in.
- 10:23Decades. Yeah, a long time.
- 10:25I can't remember anything close. Well, the schedule's easy,
- 10:28though trendy. Well, maybe you can argue the
- 10:31first three are easy. I wouldn't even go 3.
- 10:34The next three, though, that's going to be a different ball
- 10:36game. You got on the road at Michigan.
- 10:41You got a home game. That's great.
- 10:43There you go. Good here.
- 10:44Comes the number one team in the country, Ohio State, and then
- 10:46you go on the road to. The West Coast, the.
- 10:48West Coast. And that always ends well.
- 10:50Against Washington, can they win a game?
- 10:54What's the most likely win? Of those 3.
- 10:57Of those 3. I, I, I want to say Kennick the
- 11:05Ohio State game, but I can't. I guess Washington.
- 11:09Let's see, I would say Michigan still going to be early in
- 11:13Whittingham. I don't.
- 11:13Know what Whittingham's got right?
- 11:15I don't. I don't know.
- 11:16That well, you got Underwood back.
- 11:17That's a place to. Start.
- 11:18Yeah, that didn't go well last year.
- 11:20He was a freshman, a true freshman.
- 11:21He was. He'll get better.
- 11:23No one would anticipate. They don't have a ton coming
- 11:27back. They didn't do a lot in the
- 11:28portal in comparison either. I thought that was pretty
- 11:30interesting. Yeah.
- 11:33Just kind of odd to not know, but I think of the three, that's
- 11:37the one I'd put number one. Yeah, most.
- 11:38Likely might be just because of the uncertainty with their
- 11:41roster oh their basketball school.
- 11:42Anyways, this year, that's what it is.
- 11:43This year, I don't think many Wolverine fans would agree with
- 11:46that. No, no, although the banner's
- 11:48flying. Yeah, absolutely.
- 11:50Want to mention Chris Pelizzi. Yeah, boy, you talk about a guy
- 11:53that is. Excited to be home.
- 11:55Holy crap, And we hear this plenty.
- 11:57We hear Jay Norvell. What was that a week ago when he
- 11:59was talking about it and just the importance but.
- 12:02He's back with his tribe. Yes, hearing Pelizzi talk about
- 12:06and being other places and what the way that he put it is it
- 12:13just wasn't Iowa that that was the quote that he had.
- 12:15It just wasn't Iowa. He had a he said he had good
- 12:17experiences other places, but it wasn't Iowa.
- 12:19And then he went back and talked about correct friends and
- 12:21coaching under him and he said there are times felt never be
- 12:25able to get back here and the importance of that and you hear.
- 12:29When did he leave 2012 early? Something like that.
- 12:32He's been all over the place and you know, a small school,
- 12:34Tennessee Tech I think was one of them.
- 12:36He's been all over. That's that's the path for so
- 12:38many coaches. And when you have your
- 12:40destination that you want to get back to.
- 12:42I just thought it was really interesting.
- 12:44You could tell there was there was emotions there.
- 12:46Him talking about that and what it is kicker and punter.
- 12:49We're not going to know until the seat.
- 12:51I don't think so. We might not know until.
- 12:52The Aussie's got to win, the punting job doesn't.
- 12:54He. I don't think so.
- 12:55You don't think so? I like Phil Pot.
- 12:56No. I also watched Phil Pot in high
- 12:58school. He's got a leg.
- 13:00And we talked about this when Tory Taylor came in.
- 13:05Tory Taylor came in 2020. He's also 23 years old at that
- 13:09time. There's nobody in the stands.
- 13:11Nope. Not a soul.
- 13:13And then we see these struggles. What?
- 13:14Did they play first? Was that Indiana?
- 13:16Purdue with Purdue. Yes, that was Purdue.
- 13:18Yeah, you're right. Was Purdue.
- 13:19And then? That was Riley Moss.
- 13:22Not that, not that, not that game.
- 13:24I don't think so. OK, the Reese taking comes in
- 13:29younger. He wasn't.
- 13:30Very good, right? No, he wasn't.
- 13:32It's not just about leg talent. All these guys have leg talent.
- 13:35I think the experience has something to do with it and the
- 13:38same thing. Boston Effort has never put on a
- 13:41helmet and please, he talked about that.
- 13:43He's never put a football helmet on.
- 13:45That's the first time he does that in a game will be when he
- 13:49takes the field. I would give Phil Pot the
- 13:52smallest of edges, but the edge there and then in the kicker
- 13:55spot, same kind of thing. Even spoiled Trent.
- 13:57Yes, Ozick obviously has a pedigree after being a kicker
- 14:00North Dakota State, but sounds like him and Burr very close.
- 14:03We'll see. We'll get a glimpse on Saturday.
- 14:05I think that'll also kind of help kind of frame it.
- 14:07But I see both of them. I'm calling flips at this point.
- 14:10Yeah, I do too. And that's so I've got Iowa
- 14:14State's information. Do you have the info for Iowa?
- 14:17I think. 1045. 1040. 5 is when the practice officially begins.
- 14:22Here's Iowa State Spring Showcase.
- 14:24So the gates are open. It is only the east side.
- 14:26They're opening the northeast and southeast gates, 1030
- 14:29stretching, and then they'll do whatever they're going to do for
- 14:32the next couple of hours. It's going to stop at 12:30, so
- 14:35they're going to give you 2 hours to look at the team.
- 14:37I hope they're going to pass out some sheets with numbers on them
- 14:40just so you got a kind of an idea.
- 14:42Or just print it out, grab the roster, print it out, just do
- 14:45something. Yes.
- 14:47For Iowa, 10:45 on Saturday, you can get in Gates AB and H
- 14:53Usually just one side of the field is going to be open, which
- 14:56would be the West side of the stadium is normally in the past
- 14:59what it's been. Sometimes they put the media
- 15:01members in on the other side of the field so they can spread out
- 15:04a little bit and take film and and do those kind of things.
- 15:07So 10:45 for that one, same thing, you're a Hawkeye fan, you
- 15:12might need a roster yourself too.
- 15:13I would state Iowa State's a different level, but this.
- 15:16Year I would just kind of a. Lot of new faces, a lot of young
- 15:19faces. The veterans are not there at
- 15:22the same level. Nope.
- 15:24A fascinating year awaits both Iowa and Iowa State on the
- 15:27gridiron, and they'll of course match up second week.
- 15:31Did you see the Hall of Fame basketball announcement that
- 15:34came out earlier today? Iowa State is going to
- 15:36participate down in Kansas City. It's just a one game.
- 15:43It's not like they're going to so Drake and Wichita State play.
- 15:46So it's just more, it's more than Iowa State for listening
- 15:48audience. Drake is involved as well.
- 15:49They'll play the Shockers and Iowa State's going to play most
- 15:53state. It's after Cyhawk, it's after
- 15:56the players era. So that's kind of getting close
- 16:00to I would not entirely, but you're starting to get a little
- 16:03bit more clarity on what I was stating on con schedule's going
- 16:06to look like they got Purdue at home.
- 16:08Obviously the Seihawk game is a part of it.
- 16:10Players error. You can bet your bottom dollar
- 16:11that's going to be a top flight field if there ever was 1 early
- 16:14in the year. So that'll come together with
- 16:17very, very good competition. Who do they play over in the
- 16:22western part and say what's the what's the building you you've
- 16:24been to it? They've got a game coming up
- 16:26there, that famous building in western Iowa.
- 16:29Western Iowa, Yeah. Tyson Event Center No in Sioux
- 16:33City. No, no, no.
- 16:34The the the you, the you saw a game there.
- 16:36You saw? In Sioux Falls, that that's in
- 16:38South Dakota. OK.
- 16:38South Dakota. Yes, Yes.
- 16:40What's the name of it? The Pentagon.
- 16:41The Pentagon. Thank you.
- 16:43They play there. I like the Tyson Event Center in
- 16:45Sioux City. That's not very famous.
- 16:47So they'll play there. Uh huh.
- 16:50So they're starting to get their schedule to come together a
- 16:52little bit. The exempt tournaments coming up
- 16:56this year, obviously the players era for Iowa State.
- 17:01Do you remember the story, though, from it was like
- 17:04December, maybe January, that financially they're asking for a
- 17:09lot and they're maybe not getting the television money
- 17:11that they anticipated. Right.
- 17:13But didn't they rebid it? I'm not sure if they got anybody
- 17:17to rebid. Well, I hope so because it's
- 17:19such a hell of an event for basketball fans.
- 17:22But we've had great multi team tournaments like you're, you've
- 17:25been more enamoured with it. It's in Vegas, so that gets my
- 17:28attention right off the bat. I just, I would hate to see all
- 17:33the other ones go away for something like this because I
- 17:37mean, last year, that Poppycock situation where you go
- 17:40undefeated but you don't get to, yeah, that was it was awful.
- 17:43Yeah, that needed tweaking. Yes, you need a bracket.
- 17:46Make an 18 bracket. It's very simple.
- 17:48You got three games? Here's a bracket.
- 17:49Boom. Because you're going to play
- 17:50three games, you may as well have a.
- 17:51Bracket. We've done this for decades.
- 17:54That comes down to point differential maybe kinda.
- 17:57It was stupid. It was not well run.
- 18:01I have my concerns about the sustainability and certainly the
- 18:04amount of money that they're giving up.
- 18:06How do you recruit that money? And if you're not getting the
- 18:08television money, which by the way, it's still during football
- 18:11season and we know what rates and we know what gets the ad
- 18:14dollars, it is definitely football.
- 18:16I just continue to wonder about how long this events actually
- 18:20going to be. Happening.
- 18:20Is there a better spot on the calendar for it?
- 18:22Is it? I mean because football's now
- 18:24with playoffs are in December. Well, and that's the Part 2
- 18:27where we saw obviously the success of the Michigan Duke
- 18:30game. Does it make sense to instead,
- 18:32that was good, have a weekend where, and let's be honest, it's
- 18:37going to be about the Power 4 where you have 456 teams that
- 18:42play in little 4 game tournaments on a weekend, on a
- 18:46Friday, Saturday, Sunday, kind of.
- 18:48But actually the winner's playing no where.
- 18:51You just have one game. You'd have two games, two games,
- 18:53A4 team tournament when your first game he played the other
- 18:56team backside. It's two games in the middle of
- 18:58the season. If that's something, maybe that
- 19:00would make a little bit more sense.
- 19:02I don't know. I don't think there is a great
- 19:04way to look at it. But I don't think like parent of
- 19:07nil money to the players out there, it's hard.
- 19:09I mean, everybody's hoping that it's it's a success and it
- 19:12continues on. I don't think it's going to.
- 19:15Do they have a contract? Did they, did they commit to a
- 19:18certain amount of years? Do you know?
- 19:20I don't know. I don't either.
- 19:22I I know that after last year that they reopened for bidding
- 19:26the the television contract for the event.
- 19:28Look, there's only so much money to go down.
- 19:30I read today that neither Fox or ESPN wanted she want to carry
- 19:34the Holiday Bowl. Really.
- 19:36I mean, the Holiday Bowl used to be a bull.
- 19:37Absolutely. It was a big. 1A Big.
- 19:39Bowl absolutely was. It was in San Diego for crying
- 19:42out loud. Fox begged out and ESPN says no
- 19:44thanks. Yikes.
- 19:46Right. So is that where's that going,
- 19:48CW? Well, they're, they're
- 19:51investing, they're spending, buddy.
- 19:53Maybe that's where that. Thing's going to end up all
- 19:55right. We're going to end up going to
- 19:56break right now. When we do, Elliot Clef is going
- 19:59to join us. More on what he heard from the
- 20:00coordinators. We'll do that.
- 20:02On the other side, Matt Poston's coming up on.
- 20:05He's such a basketball guy. I'm going to ask him about the
- 20:07NIL the players era. With what he thinks the shelf
- 20:11life is for this event, I right now though time to give you a
- 20:14chance. To win $1000 in this nationwide
- 20:16contest, head to KX and o.com. The keyword this hour is media.
- 20:21Media at KX and o.com. That's a new one.
- 20:24We haven't had media, have we? I don't think so.
- 20:27It is new media at. Kxno.com Your chance to win
- 20:31$1000 in this Nationwide Events Clefnecks post and still to come
- 20:36Cappy kicks off our number 2 Miller and Condit Iowa sports
- 20:39radio network. Hi, Mary Condon, welcome back,
- 20:50Iowa Sports Radio Network. Kelly A Clef momentarily forgot
- 20:54to mention the first segment. Addie Brown found a home.
- 20:56Former Cyclone UCLA bound are sort of the defending champions
- 21:01for Addie Brown. Yeah, a lot of minutes
- 21:02available. All the seniors, I believe,
- 21:04scored every point in the championship game, so there's
- 21:07going to be minutes there. Good program and coach close.
- 21:09She is excellent. Does a really good job with that
- 21:12program. Good landing space.
- 21:14Going to be a little bit different going from growing up
- 21:16in the middle of Kansas to Ames to LA just a tad.
- 21:20Culture shock just a tad. Let's get Ellie a club
- 21:23hawkeyeinsider.com part of the 24/7 sports.
- 21:27Good to talk to you Ellie. Appreciate you coming on
- 21:28obviously busy day listening to all the coordinators speak.
- 21:31You'll get a your eyeballs on practice coming up here in oh
- 21:35about 48 hours. Things should be just wrapping
- 21:38up, but I guess we'll just throw it out there.
- 21:40Well, let's start with Tim Lester in the offense and we'll
- 21:42work our way through the the other two.
- 21:44Just when you heard Tim Lester. I love the fact that he made you
- 21:48made the media wait before he got into the quarterback because
- 21:51he knew everybody wanted to start there.
- 21:53But what was the take away or two from listening to Tim Lester
- 21:56yesterday? Yeah, You know, I think the main
- 22:01thing is, is confirming what we've been hearing behind the
- 22:04scenes is that the Hank Brown and Jeremy Hecklinski
- 22:08competition is probably going to go down to the wire.
- 22:11He doesn't really have a timeline on it.
- 22:13He's seeing things that are encouraging from both of them,
- 22:16that Hank Brown has taken some more shots.
- 22:20He's had more explosive plays than expected.
- 22:23I think he's had more explosive plays than that.
- 22:25Hecklinski actually in the spring, according to Lester.
- 22:30Then he also didn't sound super committal to The Cave Peeper
- 22:34moving over to center, which was interesting.
- 22:37And of course, you know, offensive line isn't, you know,
- 22:40one of the sexy positions that everybody loves to talk about.
- 22:43But that's a big move. I mean, you're replacing Logan
- 22:45Jones, who one of the better offense lineman and Iowa in
- 22:49recent memory, along with both Stevens and Jennings, dunker and
- 22:53peeper, who was awesome at right guard.
- 22:55You know, I mean, the the conversation since the end of
- 22:58the season has been, oh, he's moving over to center.
- 23:00Well, it doesn't sound like it's guaranteed at this point.
- 23:03Plus, Michael Miglinski's been hurt a good chunk of spring.
- 23:06We don't really know where Trent Wilson's at after he sprained an
- 23:09ankle. So definitely a lot more
- 23:12questions than answers at this point.
- 23:15Well, there are no. Questions that the hype train
- 23:17continues for Tony Diaz and Tim Lester did not slow things down
- 23:21yesterday. Now he's been banked up.
- 23:23And as David Eichelt reported over at Hawkeye Insider,
- 23:26anticipate that he's going to be out for the rest of the spring.
- 23:28Regardless, though, guy that just goes and gets the ball.
- 23:31I mean, Tim Lester, I read the transcript.
- 23:33I didn't have a chance to watch it.
- 23:36Was there a little smirk on his face, a little bit of smile when
- 23:39he was talking about Tony Diaz? Because, Elliot, we've been
- 23:41hearing this from all over the place.
- 23:44Oh yeah. One quote that he said that I
- 23:46don't think I've heard yet, at least it's something about how
- 23:49he's been willing to put basically everything on the
- 23:52line, like he'll land on his head if he has to, to catch a
- 23:55football, which was a new a new bit about Tony.
- 23:59But the other thing that we actually reported on Hawkeye
- 24:03Insider that he has been though he has been banged up a little
- 24:07bit. He has been back at practice,
- 24:09but it's been very limited at this point.
- 24:10So he's not completely out. I would be very surprised if he
- 24:15plays on Saturday but just participates on Saturday because
- 24:20of the fact that he has been banged up.
- 24:21And Kirk Ference, as he should, often keeps guys out, even if
- 24:25it's just bumps and bruises of the open spring practice.
- 24:29Don't need to get anybody hurt just so fans can can get a look
- 24:33at them. But yeah, I mean, I was not, I
- 24:37mean, maybe I wasn't anticipating exactly what what
- 24:41Tim said, but I would also wouldn't say I was surprised
- 24:44because Tim will, I don't think he's necessarily shy about
- 24:50praising his guys, right? Like Phil can get that way from
- 24:53time to time. But Tim, Tim is going to let you
- 24:57know what that he's excited about.
- 24:59You know, even see some of these young guys like Hecklinski last
- 25:02year saying, hey, he's a little ball player now.
- 25:04We heard that quite a bit. But yeah, so I, I, I wouldn't
- 25:08say I was shocked, but to hear that that side of it was was
- 25:12interesting that he's willing to put his, his, his life.
- 25:15On the line. To catch a football, Yeah.
- 25:17Here was the quote. Tony can, Tony can come down
- 25:19with the ball. I wish he was more protective of
- 25:21his body. He goes for it now.
- 25:23He might land on his head, but he'll at the end he'll come up
- 25:26with the ball. Pretty good quote for Tony Diaz.
- 25:29What about what about Evan James?
- 25:32What do we know about him? He was also part of the
- 25:34conversation. Yeah, I don't believe Tim said
- 25:38much about Evan yesterday. Maybe a little bit.
- 25:41It's mostly just been that he's, you know, that that speed guy
- 25:44that you're looking for. Not going to be Caden Wegen, not
- 25:47going to be Jacob Gill. He's going to be Evan James,
- 25:49right. But I think he has a chance to
- 25:51be, I'm not trying to be hyperbolic here, but sort of a
- 25:55combo of the two where he is a little bit of a possession
- 25:57receiver, but probably faster than what Jacob Gill was.
- 26:01And we'll get just almost as much of a look at Evan James as
- 26:06Lester has this spring because he's been out for a good chunk
- 26:08of it, been able to participate the last two weeks.
- 26:11But it'll be really interesting to to get a second look at him
- 26:14as far as media. It'll be interesting to get a
- 26:17second look at him this weekend and see how much.
- 26:20I mean, he might be more involved than he otherwise would
- 26:22be, assuming Tony doesn't participate.
- 26:24He has participate. But yeah, James will be
- 26:27interesting. He's I don't necessarily foresee
- 26:31him being. A guy.
- 26:33That plays like an overwhelming amount as much as like a starter
- 26:38like a Reese Vanderzee or Tony Diaz or or Dayton Howard will
- 26:41probably play this year, maybe even Jerry at Bowie that that
- 26:45plays this year because he's young.
- 26:47It's his first year in the Big 10, but I mean maybe he'll prove
- 26:51me wrong with his speed and and play making ability as a
- 26:53possession receiver. It'll be one of those things to
- 26:57to follow over on the defensive. Side of the ball, Phil Parker, I
- 27:01think it's made me a consensus now.
- 27:03Defensive tackle is the biggest question mark about this
- 27:06football team as a whole. You know, Bryce Hawthorne, he
- 27:08was a rotational piece last year.
- 27:10Yeah. You wanted to make a step.
- 27:11I got excited because he said this earlier, Elliot.
- 27:14Phil doesn't throw around the praise quite as much, just him
- 27:17bringing up unprompted Devin Kennedy bloodlines of his dad,
- 27:20Jimmy Kennedy, obviously a stud both at the college level and
- 27:23the NFL level. He's got the size, versatility,
- 27:26and now kind of it's that time. He needs to be a part of it.
- 27:28What have you heard about the spring that Devin Kennedy has
- 27:30had? You got Hubert Gaffney in there
- 27:32and defensive tackle as a whole. Yeah, the the two young guys
- 27:36that keep coming up to me are are Kennedy and and Brad
- 27:39Fitzgibbon and Parker didn't bring up yesterday, but Kennedy
- 27:43is a guy who's long the I don't know if you guys remember this,
- 27:47I may have brought it up recently, but he's a guy that
- 27:50the often or the defensive line group started to call UNK his
- 27:54his first year with the program because he'd show up in khaki
- 27:57shorts and a polo. And when you talk to him, he
- 28:00sounds like he's a 40 year old, like he sounded that way when he
- 28:03was 17 and getting recruited by Iowa.
- 28:06And I got to talk to him a little bit.
- 28:07But yeah, I've heard some good things about his his length and
- 28:12the way he plays the position because of that maturity.
- 28:15I mean, Kelvin Bell loves a mature kid who is, you know, 18
- 28:19and, and again, talks like he's 40.
- 28:21So I imagine he he's really bought in what what Bell has has
- 28:25put together there. And then Fitzgibbons, just a
- 28:27violent football player that is again, is smart.
- 28:31Like you have to be smart to play defensive line at Iowa.
- 28:33Their two gap system is is unique for college football.
- 28:36It's not just teeing off and getting after the quarterback or
- 28:39going to backup tackles for losses, plugging holes and
- 28:42preventing first downs and preventing easy third down
- 28:46specifically, as well as stopping you once you once you
- 28:50get towards the red zone. But yeah, those two would be
- 28:54ones that are going to be interesting.
- 28:55And man, I just, I can't help but but have a bunch of question
- 28:58marks about the transfers at this point.
- 29:00Emmanuel Olaq Baju definitely has physical trait, but I think
- 29:05it was 9 tackles in 10 games or 9.
- 29:08Excuse me, 10 tackles in nine games or something like that in
- 29:11North Dakota, 2 1/2 back. He looks like the Hulk could be
- 29:14awesome, but just hasn't done a whole lot in his career, only at
- 29:18the FCS level between Saint Thomas and North Dakota.
- 29:22And I mean, after that, it's Bryce Stevenson who sounded like
- 29:25he was a little overwhelmed start the year.
- 29:27He's starting to get his footing now.
- 29:28But yeah, I mean, defensive tackle, big question mark.
- 29:32We'll see how much the walk on fill in that role Hubert and
- 29:37Gaffney have been wrapped. Feels like they've been around
- 29:39the program for 10 years at this point.
- 29:41But yeah, you hope your scholarship guys can step up
- 29:44and, and fill that void And, and I, I, I would be really
- 29:49intrigued to see what Kennedy and Fitzgibbon look like on on
- 29:53Saturday as you think. Back to December when, when some
- 29:57of the young guys that didn't play much that were taking
- 30:00advantage of those bull prep practices.
- 30:03As you think back, was there a name that popped up in December
- 30:06that we got brought up with either of the coordinators
- 30:09yesterday? I think the the main one would
- 30:14be Cam Buffington. That was another the one that
- 30:18that, and I guess maybe we're talking about two different
- 30:22things, but but Buffington is a guy that has had quite a bit of
- 30:27buzz around him basically since he arrived on campus.
- 30:30And Jaden Montgomery was one that brought him up right, right
- 30:33away, right away during bowl prep when we got to talk to him
- 30:37about some of the young guys and it's looking like he's going to
- 30:41be a starter. And, and Phil definitely wanted
- 30:43to dance around the question about who's playing where at
- 30:46linebacker. I was wondering if it was going
- 30:48to be Montgomery at Mike or or Cam at Mike.
- 30:51Sounds like it's going to be Cam at Mike because Phil was saying
- 30:55stuff to the effect of, well, we plan to have them play a bunch
- 30:57of different positions. But you know, Cam was, was was
- 31:01was bumped and you know, it was dealing with a a small injury.
- 31:05So he missed a couple practices and we had Montgomery move over
- 31:07to Mike and we had that kind of thing where he he wanted to keep
- 31:11it quiet, but but alluded to it a little bit.
- 31:14And so I think it's going to be really, really fun to watch Cam
- 31:18Buffington really figure it out on the field this year.
- 31:21He might, I mean, other than Zack Lutmer, he might be Iowa's
- 31:25best defensive player by the end of the year.
- 31:27Like he's just got all the physical tools, everything
- 31:30you've wanted out of a mic that Iowa kind of didn't get last
- 31:34year. And Montgomery had his flashes,
- 31:36right. But I think that pair is going
- 31:39to be really fun. And that's something that I've
- 31:41heard about quite a bit too, is, is those two fitting really well
- 31:44together at that Mike and and will linebacker positions and
- 31:48and Iowa's 425 you brought up. Obviously, Zach Luttmerg leading
- 31:52this defense and defensive back group, his versatility, he can
- 31:55play corner, he can play safety, he can play cash, he can play
- 31:58anywhere and we saw that a year ago.
- 32:00Sounds like they'll corner probably off the table for him.
- 32:03Phil Parker likes the depths of his quarterback and that's a
- 32:06good thing because Phil normally doesn't like the depth of
- 32:08anywhere and he wants more. And Bora Bora as we see them
- 32:10steal some guys from the offset offensive side of the ball in
- 32:13the past. Lutmer betting favorite right
- 32:15now. Where does he trot out of the
- 32:17field? First defensive position against
- 32:19Northern Illinois got. To be cash, I mean, how good he
- 32:23was at cash last year Plus, I mean, you're looking at corner,
- 32:27you're going to have Deshaun Lee as your CB1, probably Jalen
- 32:30Watson or Rashad Godfrey at CB2. And then I think he rolls, I
- 32:34think Bill rolls with the the transfer safeties and Tyler
- 32:37Brown and Anthony Hawkins. It's strong and free safety.
- 32:40I mean that cash position is just you're required to do so
- 32:44much. You have to be good in coverage.
- 32:47You have to be a really good open field tackler.
- 32:49You have to be, I mean, effectively a fit, well,
- 32:53obviously 1/5 defensive back, but also a linebacker.
- 32:56You have to be a mixture of the two.
- 32:58And I think where you trust Lutmer the most is in that
- 33:01position that has so many different responsibilities.
- 33:04That's really where you want one of your best athletes as well,
- 33:07and that's what Lutmer is. So I honestly think, you know,
- 33:12looking back at the Cooper to Gene years, I think Cooper was
- 33:15best at at corner and having Castro at cash was a luxury that
- 33:20that, you know, wasn't necessarily expected to be
- 33:24afforded to Iowa as you know, as well as he played, I guess.
- 33:28And then you you had the opportunity to put the gene at
- 33:31corner. Otherwise, you know, having your
- 33:33best athlete and cash is going to be most advantageous.
- 33:37And I think that's the lover is can he play all 5 spots?
- 33:40Yeah. Will he probably play all 5
- 33:42spots at different points in the season?
- 33:43Not maybe not in one game, but you know, throughout the season
- 33:46they'll be thrown in corner, throwing it strong, throwing it
- 33:48free, depending on who's healthy, who's not and and what
- 33:51kind of looks the the defense is getting.
- 33:53But he's he's got to be your cash.
- 33:55He's just too good, too good at that specific position.
- 33:59And I think he's going to be mostly playing there along with,
- 34:03along with returning punt. Chris Pelippi alluding to that
- 34:07yesterday too. Yeah, well.
- 34:09Let's finish up there. We're short on time, but just a
- 34:11thought or two on what you heard from Polici.
- 34:16You know, he's he, he wanted to be a hawk for a while.
- 34:20And. Graduate.
- 34:21Yeah. Almost getting emotional talking
- 34:24about taking the position. It's definitely going to be
- 34:27different, right? Like Lamar Woods holding that
- 34:30position for a while. You lose an All American
- 34:32returner, you lose your punter, you lose your kicker who could
- 34:36hit from 60 plus. Like though Eli Ozick did tell
- 34:39me the other day that he was hitting field goals from 60 plus
- 34:42in practice. So that's something of no, but
- 34:45it's a complete, complete turnover there.
- 34:48It'll be really interesting to see what police he does with
- 34:52with this room in year 1 And may I I can't help but you know, you
- 34:56can't help but be a little nervous.
- 34:57But that's that's a lot of turnover it in one position
- 35:00group. So it'll be interesting to see
- 35:02what police he does. Good stuff.
- 35:04Ellie Clef, appreciated as always.
- 35:06Thanks for recapping yesterday. An eventful day and I was
- 35:09sitting. You'll have another one coming
- 35:10up here on Saturday. Thanks for jumping on Ellie.
- 35:13Appreciate it. Good.
- 35:15To talk to you, Hawkeye. Insider.com, part of the 24/7
- 35:19Sports Network. Good stuff on, good Intel on the
- 35:22three coordinators. We'll take your time out, talk
- 35:24some Big 12 on the other side, Miller and Condon.
- 35:26Matt Postons joins us next from Heartland College Sports on the
- 35:29Iowa Sports Radio Network. Nori Condon, welcome back.
- 35:32Final segment of our number one, David Kaplan on Chicago sports.
- 35:36He kicks off our number 2. Matt Postons covers the Big 12
- 35:39for Heartland College Sports. Heartland College sports.com.
- 35:43Do some basketball, do a little football to start things off.
- 35:46Matt, good to speak with you. Seems like maybe in the top 10
- 35:50picks, there will to be two Big 10 alumni.
- 35:53Hear their name called, one from Texas Tech, Bailey and of course
- 35:56Tyson, who's really moved up the draft boards as of late.
- 36:00Arizona State's wide receiver could not play in the Big 12
- 36:03championship against Iowa State, which is probably a good thing,
- 36:06although Scataboo picked up the slack to say the least.
- 36:10But those two, let's start with those two, obviously 2 very
- 36:13gifted players. A1 on either side of the
- 36:15football. Yeah, and I think whoever,
- 36:20whichever 2 teams land those two players, I think they're going
- 36:23to get players that can make an impact on them immediately.
- 36:26Everybody saw what Bailey was able to do with Texas Tech last
- 36:29year. He transformed their pass rush.
- 36:31He gave them a guy that could make, you know, something happen
- 36:34every single play and I I think he is built and has that
- 36:38fundamental toolbox to do that at the next level right away.
- 36:42I think he's one of those guys that could be a, you know,
- 36:45potential defensive rookie of the year type of player wherever
- 36:48he lands. Tyson, I think is going to be
- 36:51one of those players who, you know, wide receivers tend to
- 36:54need a little time to, you know, get going in the NFL, kind of
- 36:59saw with Trattoria McMillan from Arizona last year.
- 37:02You know, it took he, he started a little slowly, but by the end
- 37:05of the first year, you know, he was in really good shape in
- 37:08Carolina. It was a big part of what they
- 37:09were doing. So Tyson might need a little bit
- 37:12more lead time, but, you know, depending upon where he lands,
- 37:15if he lands with a better team, depending on, you know, if he
- 37:18falls out of that top ten, that's gonna help him in terms
- 37:21of development. But I, I think the, you know,
- 37:24both of those guys are gonna make impacts pretty quickly in
- 37:27their NFL careers. And that's a good thing for the
- 37:29Big 12 because you know, for a long time with Texas and
- 37:32Oklahoma in the conference, the first round was dominated by
- 37:35Texas and Oklahoma for the most part. 1 of the things that
- 37:38Brett, your Mark has talked a lot about is needing some of
- 37:40these other schools to become bigger brands nationally.
- 37:44When you get a first round pick from your school, whether it's
- 37:46Iowa State, Texas Tech, you know, UCF, Houston, any of those
- 37:50schools that are in the conference now, that helps you
- 37:52from a recognition standpoint. I'm going to put.
- 37:54You on the spot. This might be incredibly
- 37:56difficult for you. Who's the next top ten guy to
- 37:58come out of the Big 12? Is there a guy that you look at
- 38:01next season that draft Knicks already salivating in 2027?
- 38:05Because I'll tell you honestly, off the top of my head, I
- 38:08couldn't think of 10. Man, I, you know, I, I think
- 38:13scouts are going to keep a really big eye on LJ Martin at
- 38:15BYUI. Think he has the capability to
- 38:18be a brief Hall type of player in the NFLI.
- 38:21Think he's got that skill set. I don't necessarily know if
- 38:24he'll go in the first round. They don't value running backs
- 38:26the way they used to 10 or 15 years ago.
- 38:28But he's the guy that springs immediately to mind and there
- 38:31are a lot of other guys. What about Soresby?
- 38:35Soresby, you know, with that system, the way that the way
- 38:39that you know, Baron Morton took to that system this year with
- 38:43the continuity in in the offense in terms of the coaching staff
- 38:46that can help them as well. Martin was just the first guy
- 38:49that came to mind because I think he's one of the best backs
- 38:52in the country. And I think he's.
- 38:53One of those guys that can be a three down back in the NFL and
- 38:56that can be valuable if you can find the right guy for your
- 38:58offense in that fame. Yeah, that, that.
- 39:00That's a good one. That's that's very good.
- 39:03Any more football, TC? Let's go to basketball.
- 39:07We we talked about. This at the beginning of the
- 39:09show, the the players era and maybe the that somewhat shaky
- 39:13ground that it's on right now is they're still searching for a
- 39:16television partner unless they found one that Trent and I
- 39:19didn't, you know, somehow got by us.
- 39:23I think it's a hell of an event. I really do.
- 39:25I enjoyed the heck out of it. The competition is outstanding.
- 39:28Yes, I understand the, you know, the downside of it.
- 39:30It kind of ends some of those, like the tournament over to the
- 39:34Maui Classic. Of course, Anchorage is already
- 39:36gone, but you know, when you've got $1,000,000 of NIL sitting
- 39:40out there to participate in this, schools are going to take
- 39:42you up on that offer for the most part.
- 39:45What are you hearing about that event as far as the longevity
- 39:48and the likelihood that it's around and, you know, 5-10 years
- 39:52from now? Any any Intel on that?
- 39:54Yeah. I don't have a good read on
- 39:56that, in part because the landscape keeps shifting.
- 39:59I mean. We're now talking about five
- 40:02years for eligibility for kids and the NCAA is now
- 40:06interestingly enough, talking about implementing that next
- 40:08month, which could throw the transfer portal and you know,
- 40:12frankly, NIL as well into complete chaos.
- 40:15When you have even the biggest schools and all these
- 40:17conferences, the ones that you feel like are the most revenue
- 40:20friendly, Texas, Ohio State, those kinds of schools competing
- 40:25for NIL dollars, then I think that can help keep a tournament
- 40:29like that more viable. I think the thing I worry about
- 40:31is how quickly this tournament is growing.
- 40:35It was 8 teams when it started a couple of years ago.
- 40:38Now I think they're shooting for 24 teams.
- 40:40Eight of those teams are going to come out of the Big 12, which
- 40:42is good for the Big 12. Your mark made, I think a really
- 40:45great prescient deal with them last year.
- 40:48But are you going to be able to get, you know, 24 teams through
- 40:53this tournament in a week? Are you going to, you have to
- 40:54stretch it out to two or three weeks?
- 40:56Does that, you know, stretch you from a staffing or from a
- 40:59resource standpoint? There are plenty of places to
- 41:02play in Las Vegas, as you guys know.
- 41:04The question is can you get eyeballs on that tournament at a
- 41:08time when everyone is still paying a lot of attention to
- 41:10football? I think that's the trick.
- 41:12I mean, getting teams there for $1,000,000 payday for NIL, no
- 41:15big deal. Getting the attention to the TV
- 41:17deal, you need to make it a long tournament with longevity.
- 41:21That's the trick. The.
- 41:25Iowa State Cyclones got their work done on the weekend they
- 41:29portal opens up, got the guys come in and they're done just
- 41:31like that. TJ Otzenberger 5 new Blairs.
- 41:34Obviously the departure of Manchilovich, it's something
- 41:36that stings and we'll see where he ends up.
- 41:38NBA or somewhere else. But your thoughts on that TJ Boy
- 41:42just feels like a turnkey operation and names right now.
- 41:46Yeah, I. Mean, I think he's a really good
- 41:48example of to other schools of know what you value in your
- 41:53program, know which players align with that and get them
- 41:57fast. I don't know if TJ has guys that
- 42:00are scouting players during the season.
- 42:02I don't know if they're looking at it from that kind of an
- 42:04operation, but it seems like every year he does a really good
- 42:08job of finding his guys quickly, finding guys that align to what
- 42:11he wants to do on the court and getting them in aims.
- 42:14I mean, 5 new transfers, they've got a good group of holdover
- 42:17players, a really good freshman group coming in next year.
- 42:20He seems to have found a way to even in this era, make it like
- 42:24it used to be 1/3, a third, a third, a third, new guys, 1/3
- 42:28holdovers, a third year leaving. He's found a really good mix
- 42:31there. I think they're, on paper, they
- 42:34look like a team that could be a really big player in the
- 42:37conference again and potentially another, you know, NCAA
- 42:41tournament team that has Sweet 16 or even Final Four
- 42:43aspirations. I like the players he's brought
- 42:45in. I wish he had a little more
- 42:48height in me. I know they have Plato coming
- 42:50back but wish he had a little more height.
- 42:52But other than that, I really like what he's brought in last.
- 42:55Thing for me Billy Donovan leaves the bulls Florida job is
- 42:58not going to open up sounds like maybe just going to take a year
- 43:01off. Is he automatically the favorite
- 43:04in Kansas of self decides at the end of next year that you know
- 43:07what now is the time for me to to give up this gig to walk
- 43:11away. Is Donovan the favorite?
- 43:13Would he be the favorite in Kansas?
- 43:15I think he'd certainly be a candidate.
- 43:17I think you have to think about, you know, his age.
- 43:19I think Billy's in his 60s now. Am I right about that?
- 43:24He's got to be close. I mean, he was in college when I
- 43:27was a teenager at Providence. So he's probably in that late
- 43:3050s area, you know, I think if you're Kansas.
- 43:35Yeah, I think he'd be a. Clearly a 60 by the way, you'd
- 43:39be looking at frankly, a Todd Golden too.
- 43:40I mean, honestly, you're looking for somebody younger who can
- 43:43handle this NIL portal era and live through it year through
- 43:47year. And, you know, I think Golden
- 43:49would actually be a really good cast for that job.
- 43:51You know, it's out of Donovan. I, I think they'd want to go
- 43:53younger with that job. If you look at their last few
- 43:55hires, their coaches who have a lot of experience, who are in
- 43:59their 40s, I think Roy Williams is in his 40s.
- 44:02Bill was in his 40s. I think they'd look for somebody
- 44:04that could be there for, you know, 10/15/20 years.
- 44:07Makes sense. Musics.
- 44:08Play and thank you as always, Matt Poston's great to catch up
- 44:11with the Heartland College sports for Matt and the team
- 44:13over there. Thank you, Matt.
- 44:15We'll talk you in the weeks ahead.
- 44:16Appreciate it. Thanks.
- 44:17Thanks. Guys, get it.
- 44:18Good to talk to you. Billy Donovan is 60.
- 44:21Little Billy Donovan, 60. Makes us feel old once again.
- 44:25Hour or two coming off. Cappy kicks it off Miller in
- 44:27Condon on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
