- 0:25Speaker 2: Welcome back to artists on artists on artists on artists,
- 0:27Speaker 2: and boy do we have a smamer for you.
- 0:32Speaker 4: Background actors are the life of every project. If you
- 0:36Speaker 4: take out the main actors, that's who you have.
- 0:39Speaker 1: If you've ever looked at a busy street and thought,
- 0:42Speaker 1: who on earth are all those people walking by? Well,
- 0:46Speaker 1: we hope this panel answers the question.
- 0:49Speaker 5: Let's take on our notebooks and take some notes at
- 0:52Speaker 5: the backbone of Hollywood background.
- 0:55Speaker 4: Let's listen in.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Hey guys, I'm Ken Kendall and I am an act
- 1:00Speaker 2: der primarily in the background.
- 1:02Speaker 3: That's a good name, Ken Kendle.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Thank you, Thank you, Ken Kendall. It's not my legal name,
- 1:07Speaker 2: but I like it. It's my it's my sag hopeful name.
- 1:11Speaker 2: When I get into the union, that will be my name.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I think we're in SAG, not in Sif we've done
- 1:17Speaker 1: three of these, we're in SAG.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Are you and new trying to get in to SAG.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I work a lot of union jobs, but they never
- 1:26Speaker 2: want to taptartly me.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Well, Hi everybody. My name is Clara Tuna and hi nice,
- 1:36Speaker 1: thank you, thank you. I am the only person on
- 1:40Speaker 1: IMDb with the name Clara Tuna and I have been
- 1:45Speaker 1: background acting for thirty five proud Rockin' years.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Hey, what's up.
- 1:52Speaker 5: I'm Georgie Sauce. Guys, so happy to be here. I've
- 2:02Speaker 5: been in the business, the biz as we call it,
- 2:05Speaker 5: for forty plus years. Stoke to be here.
- 2:08Speaker 4: My name is Philip C. More Hoffman.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Oh, not so good a name, not a bad name.
- 2:15Speaker 4: Turned out to be a rough name to have in
- 2:17Speaker 4: this industry. I obviously if I go, I sometimes go
- 2:21Speaker 4: without my middle name See. I take that out and
- 2:24Speaker 4: so I can go as Philip more Hoffman.
- 2:26Speaker 6: So you have its four names, and one is see
- 2:29Speaker 6: is a letter, and then more Hoffman is is h
- 2:34Speaker 6: o ff m an more Hoffman.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I would have thought more space Hoffman.
- 2:38Speaker 4: No, it's more Hoffman. Yeah, Philip C. More Hoffman. I
- 2:43Speaker 4: have been a background actor for fifteen years. I got
- 2:49Speaker 4: my start in two thousand. What two thousand and mineus fifteen,
- 2:55Speaker 4: that's two thousand and six. What when did a beautiful Mind?
- 3:01Speaker 4: I saw a beautiful mind? And then five years later
- 3:04Speaker 4: I started my first movie.
- 3:06Speaker 3: So did beautiful Mind inspired you?
- 3:08Speaker 4: Yeah? Fashion, and I slowly got out here in five
- 3:12Speaker 4: years later. I did my first film in two thousand
- 3:15Speaker 4: and six, and I believe that movie is called Down
- 3:18Speaker 4: with Love with Ian McGregor, and I played a rowdy
- 3:21Speaker 4: newspaper guy in the background.
- 3:24Speaker 2: They gave you a name, They gave you a name.
- 3:26Speaker 6: So did you have a line?
- 3:27Speaker 4: Yeah, that's actually the best role I've ever had. I
- 3:30Speaker 4: had a line and it was, Hey, this just then
- 3:34Speaker 4: women no more than men?
- 3:37Speaker 2: WHOA, that's great. That's a good line.
- 3:41Speaker 6: Yeah's this movie about Down with Love Gregor?
- 3:43Speaker 4: You gotta check it out.
- 3:44Speaker 6: That's great, really good. I'm Kitty the Chin.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Wow. That's a great name.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Great name, great name.
- 3:53Speaker 6: Much Yeah. I actually love just being background here. It
- 3:58Speaker 6: sounds like you guys, some of some of you might
- 4:01Speaker 6: want to go beyond, but I've lived in the background,
- 4:04Speaker 6: stand in even world.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Whoa, whoa.
- 4:07Speaker 5: I didn't want to I didn't want to bust my cool.
- 4:10Speaker 5: But I recognize you, Kitty.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Hold on, I'm sorry, I can't believe I'm doing this.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Were you in Season four, episode three of How I
- 4:19Speaker 1: Met Your Mother? In the cafe scene?
- 4:21Speaker 6: Absolutely wait.
- 4:26Speaker 1: That.
- 4:27Speaker 6: I was just about to say. They gave me a
- 4:28Speaker 6: cup that was so huge. I had a huge latte cup.
- 4:33Speaker 6: And do you know what, none of the other background
- 4:35Speaker 6: people could hold that and drink it like it was believable.
- 4:38Speaker 6: Like they won't see you feel it.
- 4:40Speaker 5: That's the trick to being a background actor is being
- 4:42Speaker 5: given something and doing it well.
- 4:44Speaker 3: You never know, you never know.
- 4:47Speaker 4: I gotta ask you as a question. I asked every
- 4:49Speaker 4: background person this, what books are you guys reading?
- 4:55Speaker 2: Oh? Yeah, I brought two, so I'm trying to make
- 4:58Speaker 2: my way through Doune.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Oh cool.
- 5:01Speaker 6: Yeah that's a couple jobs worth of a book.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, a couple of jobs. Has anyone in that
- 5:06Speaker 4: here in Dune?
- 5:07Speaker 2: Dude? I tried to, I really tried to, but I'm
- 5:10Speaker 2: not on the unions.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Would be a dream, would have been a dream.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Let me tell you something. I don't read books when
- 5:16Speaker 1: I'm on set. I don't go on my phone. I
- 5:18Speaker 1: want to stay in the moment, because you never know,
- 5:20Speaker 1: you never know when you're gonna be called upon. And
- 5:22Speaker 1: so I sit there for eight hours and I just
- 5:24Speaker 1: twiddle my thumbs because I am so gosh darn excited
- 5:27Speaker 1: to be there.
- 5:27Speaker 3: That's inspiring, that's really good, And that's just me.
- 5:30Speaker 1: That's just me. That's just the focus that I like
- 5:32Speaker 1: to bring to the table.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Do you eat? Do you go to craft years?
- 5:35Speaker 3: No?
- 5:35Speaker 1: No, no no no no no no no no. No. Messes
- 5:38Speaker 1: with the messes with the focus, messes with the acting.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Clara, do we know each other? Were you on that
- 5:44Speaker 2: Ford commercial in twenty seventeen?
- 5:47Speaker 1: Oh my god, the one.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Where they drove the Ford in the stadium.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Oh, don't tell me you were in the stadium. In
- 5:53Speaker 1: the stadium, I recognize you. Yes, you were in the
- 5:57Speaker 1: loade deck.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Yes, you were in section.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Yes I do.
- 6:02Speaker 4: I feel like we all must know each other from something.
- 6:04Speaker 4: It seems like we all let's connect. Let's connect from
- 6:08Speaker 4: start saying credits and we'll see what we run into.
- 6:10Speaker 3: We work harder than other people. We're on different sets
- 6:12Speaker 3: every fucking day. Think about it.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Okay, I did I did a pet cost spot a
- 6:20Speaker 2: couple of years ago.
- 6:22Speaker 6: Okay, Ken problem.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Should we just goody?
- 6:30Speaker 4: And then we just asked anyone else?
- 6:33Speaker 5: Okay, great, okay, which of you have done a not
- 6:35Speaker 5: very farm spot for fall?
- 6:38Speaker 4: Not me?
- 6:40Speaker 1: Not me?
- 6:41Speaker 4: I did scary farm.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's fall.
- 6:44Speaker 1: That's the fall now that I have done.
- 6:46Speaker 5: No, they did two spots, one for the jam and
- 6:48Speaker 5: the family ties and one for the teenagers doing the
- 6:52Speaker 5: night stuff.
- 6:53Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, I did teenagers doing night stuff.
- 6:56Speaker 2: What were you in that?
- 6:58Speaker 4: I was a kind of a scared boy. And that
- 7:04Speaker 4: was two thousand and seventeen. I think they had me
- 7:09Speaker 4: walk through a maze that looked like a sunken ship
- 7:14Speaker 4: and there were all sorts of creepy octopus tentacles and such,
- 7:19Speaker 4: and I had to I had to scream at them.
- 7:21Speaker 2: So you got another line a scream.
- 7:23Speaker 4: I got a line. The line was inaudible, but but
- 7:26Speaker 4: you know it was. It was a it was more
- 7:28Speaker 4: of an open mouth but I had my mouth open.
- 7:31Speaker 4: And guess what I got. I got a feed for
- 7:32Speaker 4: that at open mouthfee, which I don't know if you
- 7:35Speaker 4: guys know about that. I am uh. I run a
- 7:39Speaker 4: newsletter called Extras. Extras read all about it, and I
- 7:44Speaker 4: make sure that all the tips and tricks that I know,
- 7:47Speaker 4: I let everyone else know. And there's certain body parts
- 7:50Speaker 4: that if you use them in shows and movies that
- 7:53Speaker 4: they have to pay you for them.
- 7:54Speaker 5: I'll tell you who doesn't give an open mouthfee, no
- 7:56Speaker 5: matter how much you fucking try.
- 7:58Speaker 3: MTV, those bitches don't do an open mouthfee.
- 8:01Speaker 4: No, because a fucking Kurt Loader.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Because a fucking Curt.
- 8:04Speaker 4: Writer MTV News way back in the day. He used
- 8:07Speaker 4: to talk with his big open mouth, and he made
- 8:10Speaker 4: it standard on MTV to have a big open mouth.
- 8:14Speaker 3: When somebody does that, it fucks the rest of em actually, so.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Everyone's used to it, so they don't think that open
- 8:18Speaker 4: mouthfe is important.
- 8:19Speaker 1: It's tough to and it's tough to litigate, you know,
- 8:23Speaker 1: when when you decide, oh, who just is a big
- 8:25Speaker 1: old mouth breather and who is actually talking exactly, it's
- 8:29Speaker 1: hard to do well.
- 8:29Speaker 2: I remember right when that was happening, what two thousand
- 8:32Speaker 2: and thirteen, twenty fourteen, all the extras just kept on
- 8:36Speaker 2: opening their mouth, just pretending to be mouth breathers. Right,
- 8:39Speaker 2: I get set after set of thousands of people just mouth.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Looking like guppies.
- 8:43Speaker 4: Yeah, and you see some directors caught wise, I only
- 8:45Speaker 4: had a really Scott movie where it was a closed
- 8:48Speaker 4: mouth set and you could tell that they knew that
- 8:50Speaker 4: we knew, and they were going to take care of it.
- 8:52Speaker 4: And and they said every single I think this was Prometheus,
- 8:58Speaker 4: and every single person's mouth had just they completely closed.
- 9:00Speaker 1: In the background, I heard they taped them shut.
- 9:05Speaker 4: They taped some of them shut.
- 9:07Speaker 6: Wow, how did they edit those out the tape?
- 9:10Speaker 4: If you go back, they didn't at all. Watch for
- 9:13Speaker 4: Medius again, you're gonna see a lot of people with
- 9:16Speaker 4: just straight up duct table.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Which is very funny because that movie inherently is just
- 9:20Speaker 2: about you know, eight people on an undiscovered I basically
- 9:24Speaker 2: plan it before you know.
- 9:26Speaker 4: I'm talking about the creature scenes in the beginning.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Oh yeah, so the creatures got their mouths taped, creatures
- 9:32Speaker 3: with mouth incredible tap you know what? I feel like?
- 9:34Speaker 5: This group right here has a lot of fucking secrets. Yeah,
- 9:38Speaker 5: let's trade secrets.
- 9:39Speaker 4: So they so, okay, okay, so let's go around, let's
- 9:41Speaker 4: talk about books were reading, let's take credits we're in,
- 9:43Speaker 4: and then let's trade some secrets.
- 9:46Speaker 6: Kitty, we gotta hear great Da Vinci code zorrelto and uh,
- 9:52Speaker 6: what's my big secret.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Well, you've got to have a couple because you're a
- 9:56Speaker 2: stand in, I mean, which is similar to background. It's
- 9:59Speaker 2: in the same feeld the back. But I don't think
- 10:00Speaker 2: it's the exact same as a whole different type of art.
- 10:03Speaker 1: That's true.
- 10:03Speaker 6: So here's the thing, a stand in. Here's what I
- 10:05Speaker 6: basically do. I mean, you guys might know, but if
- 10:08Speaker 6: when the actress actors get too tired, you know what
- 10:11Speaker 6: I mean, they do the scene and then they get
- 10:12Speaker 6: too tired and they have to go away, but they
- 10:14Speaker 6: still have to light the scene and put the cameras
- 10:17Speaker 6: where the cameras go. So I stand there. I do
- 10:20Speaker 6: the standing when the actors don't want to do that anymore.
- 10:23Speaker 2: You know.
- 10:24Speaker 6: I was actually so as you guys can see, I'm
- 10:27Speaker 6: five feet tall, yeah, exactly, but I got exactly I'm
- 10:31Speaker 6: exactly five feet you guys can tell. I was Christine
- 10:34Speaker 6: Baranski's stand in.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Holy tits, my god, that's right.
- 10:38Speaker 1: She's tall.
- 10:40Speaker 6: She's very tall.
- 10:43Speaker 3: It is like your first gig in the business.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Like that.
- 10:46Speaker 6: Look I slipped in here.
- 10:48Speaker 2: You know.
- 10:48Speaker 6: Here's what I did. I got some platform shoes that
- 10:53Speaker 6: were one and a half feet tallow to pop on.
- 10:59Speaker 6: That made me five foot you can see it. That
- 11:02Speaker 6: made me six five.
- 11:04Speaker 2: What happened? Do you just like wear big pants? They
- 11:06Speaker 2: didn't notice or something.
- 11:08Speaker 6: No, I wasn't hiding it at all. I said, I
- 11:10Speaker 6: bought these huge shoes. I will be exactly Christine Baranski's height.
- 11:15Speaker 6: Will you have me? And they were like, no, one
- 11:17Speaker 6: really is that excited to do? Stand and work? Of course,
- 11:21Speaker 6: come on, come on down. And I said, well, you
- 11:23Speaker 6: reimburse me for these shoes, and they went no way.
- 11:26Speaker 6: So I am still in debt. That is a very
- 11:29Speaker 6: custom punch. They were around fifteen thousand dollars.
- 11:35Speaker 3: But it got you in the business. It got you
- 11:37Speaker 3: through the back door.
- 11:38Speaker 1: The door still pay off in the door. Good for
- 11:41Speaker 1: fucking you, Thank you so much.
- 11:43Speaker 6: I guess that's my secret is if you know, if
- 11:45Speaker 6: you see a job, make it happen, and if you
- 11:47Speaker 6: go in debt, it's absolutely worth it.
- 11:51Speaker 4: Well.
- 11:51Speaker 2: I feel like we all might be lightly in debt
- 11:53Speaker 2: from this career, right because in Hollywood it's about you
- 11:56Speaker 2: can't You can't make money if you're not spending money.
- 12:00Speaker 2: You know, I'm spending money all the time on things
- 12:04Speaker 2: just to try to make it, you know, background acting classes,
- 12:07Speaker 2: how to get in the union?
- 12:08Speaker 4: Who teaches that background I teaches that.
- 12:10Speaker 2: One Dev de Bell.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Class.
- 12:15Speaker 2: I mean it's very good.
- 12:16Speaker 1: It's expensive, don't get me wrong, but it is worth it.
- 12:19Speaker 2: I mean I mean Dev de Bell, Yeah, really understands
- 12:21Speaker 2: the art and that and what what what you know
- 12:25Speaker 2: he's trying to teach you is how to background act?
- 12:28Speaker 1: And did you do the mailman exercise?
- 12:30Speaker 2: I did the man.
- 12:32Speaker 4: So the uninitiated run us through the mailman excises.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Okay, it's a wonderful exercise. Basically, what he does is
- 12:39Speaker 2: he gets everybody in the room and you each have
- 12:42Speaker 2: a mailbox and somewhere in the room, and he says,
- 12:45Speaker 2: go to that mailbox and put in your mail. Now
- 12:49Speaker 2: your instinct is to, you know, go hello, I'm the mailman.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Hello, mail, right to speak, right.
- 12:56Speaker 2: To speak, Yeah, male, mail, mail mail, We've got mail,
- 13:00Speaker 2: You've got mail. Yeah, And he just tears you apart
- 13:02Speaker 2: right there. Incredible, he rips you apart.
- 13:05Speaker 4: Wow, you know, And I was. I was in a
- 13:07Speaker 4: lot of those classes. I did those classes in twenty
- 13:10Speaker 4: twelve or thirteen. And it's so crazy when you're sitting
- 13:13Speaker 4: in those classes and the first person goes up and goes,
- 13:15Speaker 4: mail's your mails? He your male's here, and then he's
- 13:18Speaker 4: like no, it rips you apart. And then the second
- 13:19Speaker 4: person comes up does the exact same thing. You think
- 13:22Speaker 4: that they're gonna learn from the last person, but they don't.
- 13:25Speaker 4: Then everyone does it because when they realize.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Instinct and that's what background acting is, it's fighting instinct.
- 13:31Speaker 2: It is Oh, look, I'm a school teacher. How do
- 13:34Speaker 2: I become a school teacher? By not talking about being
- 13:37Speaker 2: a school teacher. You don't say school teacher, You just
- 13:43Speaker 2: you know, you just you go watermelon care, watermelon care.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Yeah, wow, that's so interesting.
- 13:51Speaker 5: I don't do that. I ask people how they are
- 13:53Speaker 5: on set. I talk to people. I say what time
- 13:55Speaker 5: do you think we're getting out of here? And I'll
- 13:58Speaker 5: do that while we're shooting.
- 13:58Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 13:59Speaker 1: I Oh, that's my favorite Ice Baker question. Yes, what
- 14:03Speaker 1: time do you think we're getting out of here?
- 14:05Speaker 2: Yes?
- 14:05Speaker 5: And I'll say I do this, Uh, I don't. I
- 14:10Speaker 5: don't want to be an actor and I'm not gonna act.
- 14:13Speaker 5: I find acting uncomfortable, so when I do this, I'm never.
- 14:17Speaker 2: I'm never.
- 14:18Speaker 3: I took that class and I said no, I don't.
- 14:20Speaker 3: I don't want to be an artist. I want to
- 14:22Speaker 3: be I want to clock in and I want to
- 14:23Speaker 3: clock out. So I think there's all different types of us.
- 14:26Speaker 5: You know, I'm never gonna make believe I asked the
- 14:29Speaker 5: prop guy to fill my mug with coffee. If I'm
- 14:32Speaker 5: in the fucking coffee shop. Uh, maybe I'm just.
- 14:36Speaker 1: A weird No no no no no no no no
- 14:41Speaker 1: no no no, that's not me.
- 14:42Speaker 2: No no no.
- 14:44Speaker 3: But how many of you here want to be actors.
- 14:49Speaker 6: Beyond background background actors?
- 14:52Speaker 2: Like this year?
- 14:53Speaker 5: It just if you, if you were giving like you
- 14:56Speaker 5: said you had, you got a line in that movie.
- 14:58Speaker 5: If I got a line, I'd ship my fuck and
- 15:00Speaker 5: tidy whities.
- 15:01Speaker 2: I wouldn't be able in a bad way.
- 15:04Speaker 3: I don't want to act. I tell the guy next
- 15:06Speaker 3: to me, go, I want to act.
- 15:09Speaker 2: I want to act.
- 15:10Speaker 4: I would really really really really really really like an opportunity.
- 15:15Speaker 4: I would really really like that step up. It would
- 15:18Speaker 4: be really exciting for me. It's the reason I came
- 15:20Speaker 4: out here. You know, I was the funniest guy in
- 15:22Speaker 4: my town. I was the funniest guy in my town.
- 15:25Speaker 4: I lived in a town called gold Rush, California, and that.
- 15:29Speaker 6: Where they found the gold.
- 15:31Speaker 4: It was a town that was so the one they
- 15:36Speaker 4: named it was so heavily involved in the gold rush
- 15:40Speaker 4: that it was it was actually capitalizing on the people
- 15:43Speaker 4: that were in the gold rush. So it was kind
- 15:44Speaker 4: of one of those ghost towns. But the point of it,
- 15:47Speaker 4: it was one of.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Those they told people were that's.
- 15:49Speaker 4: The gold.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Exactly?
- 15:53Speaker 4: I read yeah, yeah, yeah. So so there was nothing
- 15:56Speaker 4: there and they got a lot of people to move there.
- 15:58Speaker 4: And then when I was there, population you know, seventy
- 16:02Speaker 4: five eighty, and it was really I was the funniest
- 16:06Speaker 4: guy there. It was awesome. It was awesome.
- 16:09Speaker 1: What was the comedy scene like there?
- 16:12Speaker 4: We had an open mic night at the library and
- 16:15Speaker 4: it was so much fun. I would just go for
- 16:18Speaker 4: three four hours and then they turned the lights off.
- 16:20Speaker 2: How many people would go?
- 16:22Speaker 4: How many people whole town? The eighty eighty people.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Wow, they all turned every single one of them and
- 16:28Speaker 2: they would all do the open mic.
- 16:30Speaker 4: Yeah, we were on a unit that town. We did
- 16:32Speaker 4: everything together.
- 16:35Speaker 1: So what did you do you travel together? Is there
- 16:37Speaker 1: like a big bus?
- 16:38Speaker 2: No?
- 16:39Speaker 4: No, no, no no. Most people didn't want to leave, you know,
- 16:41Speaker 4: they they'd gone through so much. Of course, they're gonna stay.
- 16:43Speaker 4: They had every chance to leave, Their families had every
- 16:46Speaker 4: chance to leave. You know, gold Rus, California is dying.
- 16:49Speaker 4: You know, there's a lead poisoning situation, and so, oh god,
- 16:53Speaker 4: I don't but I'm not here to talk about that.
- 16:54Speaker 4: I left, I got out, you know. Now it's seventy nine,
- 16:57Speaker 4: well eighty, Gracie had a baby, but it's I've been replaced.
- 17:00Speaker 2: In a way you left it eighty.
- 17:02Speaker 4: No, it's eighty again because Gracie had a baby. But
- 17:04Speaker 4: other than that, I'm not not currently so but I'm
- 17:09Speaker 4: here now, is what I'm saying. And I'm excited to
- 17:10Speaker 4: be here, and I wanna want to do it, you know, Yes.
- 17:14Speaker 3: I respect that. I love talking to young actors.
- 17:18Speaker 4: Yeah, what do you guys? Do you? I mean, what
- 17:19Speaker 4: about your your dreams? Kitty? What is your dream? I? Uh?
- 17:21Speaker 6: You know I have acted before in a way, you know,
- 17:25Speaker 6: because as a stand in I did this one season
- 17:30Speaker 6: of Lethal Weapons, Yes, yeah, where where one of the
- 17:39Speaker 6: actors was actually playing two characters. They were playing a
- 17:42Speaker 6: cop and a bad guy, and that was like the
- 17:44Speaker 6: theme for that season, right, And I happen to be
- 17:48Speaker 6: that actor stand in And so when they are playing
- 17:50Speaker 6: the cop. I have to be the bad guy, but
- 17:52Speaker 6: they only see my back.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Do you see what I'm saying?
- 17:54Speaker 6: And I have to do the lines of the bad
- 17:56Speaker 6: guy or the cop to the actual actors.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Oh God, that's so much pressure.
- 18:02Speaker 4: You know.
- 18:03Speaker 6: That's how Yeah it was. It was a lot of pressure.
- 18:06Speaker 1: And you know what, I.
- 18:08Speaker 6: Just copied what the cop bad guy did the first
- 18:11Speaker 6: time around. And I'm like a little bit of a parrot.
- 18:14Speaker 6: So if you make a sound, I can copy it. Easy.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Oh, let's try that for Let's.
- 18:18Speaker 6: Try that, go for it.
- 18:19Speaker 2: How about this? Hello, It's Wednesday.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Hello, It's Wednesday.
- 18:25Speaker 4: Yo.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Literally the same thing.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I know.
- 18:28Speaker 6: So I hear it once and I can recreate it.
- 18:30Speaker 1: You guys, toss that at me anytime.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Can I ask you a question? How tall was that
- 18:35Speaker 2: actor in the CBS show?
- 18:37Speaker 1: It was Christine Baranski.
- 18:39Speaker 2: It was she. She was playing the villain and the
- 18:42Speaker 2: cop in that in that season show.
- 18:46Speaker 3: Those shoes, those expensive fucking shoes.
- 18:49Speaker 6: I did use the shoes. I couldn't be here standing
- 18:51Speaker 6: without them. They had to frame out the shoes because
- 18:54Speaker 6: once you hit a certain level on my body, it's
- 18:56Speaker 6: all bottom of platform boot. But we made it happen.
- 19:02Speaker 4: Here's my question. You know a lot of stand ins
- 19:04Speaker 4: are kind of right or dies for their talent. Does
- 19:07Speaker 4: Christine bring you on?
- 19:08Speaker 3: It's just Chris, does is question you book out directly?
- 19:12Speaker 6: Yeah, Christine knows about me?
- 19:14Speaker 2: Okay?
- 19:15Speaker 6: Does bring me from show to show?
- 19:16Speaker 1: I'm the only one.
- 19:17Speaker 6: She's like, Oh, no one's ever bought very tall shoes
- 19:22Speaker 6: to be my stand in.
- 19:25Speaker 4: So okay. But but you said she knows about me,
- 19:27Speaker 4: which kind of implies that maybe you don't have like
- 19:29Speaker 4: a close relationship. You don't know her very well. Have
- 19:31Speaker 4: you met her? I?
- 19:32Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I see her every day on set
- 19:34Speaker 6: and I tell her, like, you know, when they put
- 19:36Speaker 6: the cameras, sometimes they have to move the actor's marks
- 19:39Speaker 6: that's where the actors stand.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Uh.
- 19:40Speaker 6: Sometimes they have to move those. And then when Christine
- 19:43Speaker 6: comes back on set, I have to say, like, hey,
- 19:45Speaker 6: so they moved this.
- 19:47Speaker 2: What does she say back?
- 19:48Speaker 6: Thank you?
- 19:50Speaker 2: That sounds yes, that's incredible, dude.
- 19:56Speaker 3: You know who's so good to thank you? Steve Carell?
- 19:59Speaker 3: Really for Steve a couple times? Actually you work for me?
- 20:05Speaker 1: No?
- 20:05Speaker 2: No, I uh wait, I'm sorry. Are we talking Steve Crell?
- 20:08Speaker 2: The actor is Steve Grell, the background casting director.
- 20:11Speaker 3: I worked for Steve Carell, the background acting casting director.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Got it, Steve Carroll, Steve Carroll, you know.
- 20:18Speaker 3: What, I fucked that up all the time.
- 20:20Speaker 5: Steve Carell is the office, Steve Carroll, the CD.
- 20:23Speaker 4: Steve Carroll is really good at thank you.
- 20:28Speaker 2: He is very very thankful, very good.
- 20:30Speaker 1: You know who's really good at thank you? Hulky Hogan.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Oh, shut your mouth, Hoky Pulky.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Hulky Hogan is the famous background acting agent. Do you
- 20:45Speaker 1: guys have a specific background acting agent? Who is Hokey?
- 20:48Speaker 1: Your agent? Clara? That's big? Yeah. Well, I mean I've
- 20:52Speaker 1: been doing this a long time. I've been doing this
- 20:54Speaker 1: a long time. I tell you what. I was born
- 20:56Speaker 1: on Hollywood Boulevard and I've been going ever since.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Really you're Boulevard.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Yes? My mother was the Elmo and she just sort
- 21:05Speaker 1: of spit me out.
- 21:06Speaker 3: The Elmo like at the Chinese Growman Theater.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Yes, exactly. And you know she was ride or die
- 21:13Speaker 1: for that intersection, and so I just slipped out, slipped out,
- 21:18Speaker 1: and then they got me into baby background acting when
- 21:21Speaker 1: I was around eighteen months old. Set up uh, what's
- 21:25Speaker 1: it called a Sally Coogan and uh, I.
- 21:30Speaker 6: A cougan account. I know what you're talking about.
- 21:34Speaker 2: A cougan account. Well, it's a background cougan account, right,
- 21:36Speaker 2: What does that mean.
- 21:39Speaker 6: It's when kids are working and they have to an account.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Yes, uh yeah, but I got I got the background
- 21:45Speaker 1: acting cougan. So it's a k O O G E
- 21:48Speaker 1: N cougan. He has a cougan and the rule with
- 21:52Speaker 1: that is that any adult is allowed to withdraw from it.
- 21:56Speaker 2: No child is No child is ever allowed to withdraw
- 21:59Speaker 2: from it.
- 22:01Speaker 4: Don't have to know, Melts, you don't know that.
- 22:06Speaker 1: You just have to flash your ID. You just have
- 22:08Speaker 1: to prove it over eighteen and you can take my money.
- 22:13Speaker 6: Oh god, Clara did what?
- 22:15Speaker 4: It was?
- 22:16Speaker 1: Everything?
- 22:16Speaker 6: Okay?
- 22:17Speaker 1: Well I am dead broke, I will say, I am
- 22:19Speaker 1: still trying to because the debts sort of accumulated. Did
- 22:22Speaker 1: you know you could overdraw the cougan account.
- 22:25Speaker 4: No, so people could take money even if there wasn't
- 22:28Speaker 4: any in there.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Yeah, they could just keep going and racking up a balance.
- 22:32Speaker 1: And so I am sitting there with my Cougan account
- 22:35Speaker 1: and it says negative forty five thousand dollars and there
- 22:39Speaker 1: I go off to college, off to background Juilliard, which
- 22:42Speaker 1: we all know is called jew Laird, and I have
- 22:49Speaker 1: to work that off. And I've just been accumulating this
- 22:52Speaker 1: number my whole life. It's been hanging over my head.
- 22:54Speaker 1: And that number right now is negative one million dollars.
- 22:59Speaker 1: When I can not keep up, I cannot. I cannot
- 23:03Speaker 1: book enough work to keep up with that.
- 23:05Speaker 4: Clara, close the account, God, close it close.
- 23:10Speaker 1: I have to pay it off. I have to pay
- 23:12Speaker 1: my debts.
- 23:13Speaker 4: You can't block it. You can't. You can't stop it.
- 23:17Speaker 4: You're adult.
- 23:17Speaker 2: You're an adult now. You should be able to stop it.
- 23:20Speaker 1: I should know. I can only withdraw from it, and
- 23:22Speaker 1: I do.
- 23:24Speaker 4: I do?
- 23:24Speaker 6: Why drawdraw?
- 23:28Speaker 3: God? You remind me of my fucking wife. You're crazy.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I'm living on borrow time and borrow money and I
- 23:34Speaker 1: know that. Do you think I don't know that? That's
- 23:37Speaker 1: why I show up every single day at HBO's Euphoria
- 23:40Speaker 1: and I play a naked kid.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Hell yeah, all those scenes with all those naked kids.
- 23:46Speaker 1: I remember, fifty five year old woman.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Yes, full of naked kids.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Oh, I signed an NDA. Though I signed an NDA,
- 23:54Speaker 1: I shouldn't have said anything. It's okay.
- 23:55Speaker 5: They're not going to air this episode. Of background actors
- 23:57Speaker 5: talking about the trades.
- 23:58Speaker 3: I think we can.
- 23:59Speaker 4: Is this an episode? Are you sure we're not in holding?
- 24:04Speaker 2: Sorry? I was just going into character there, Okay.
- 24:07Speaker 1: It was just now we all did slip into characters.
- 24:10Speaker 4: I immediately felt like, oh wow, we are telling five
- 24:13Speaker 4: separate stories.
- 24:14Speaker 1: I started picking up a cup and I would drink
- 24:16Speaker 1: it and I would put it down.
- 24:17Speaker 2: I would love that. It might be fun to just
- 24:19Speaker 2: do a scene exercise, just to see where we're all at.
- 24:22Speaker 2: You know what if we chose a scene, we all
- 24:24Speaker 2: chose our characters, and then we did that scene, a
- 24:27Speaker 2: scene that.
- 24:27Speaker 1: We all know, like, uh maybe maybe like something from
- 24:32Speaker 1: the theater, something from my Beth.
- 24:33Speaker 4: Oh, that would be fun. What's my favorite crowd scene
- 24:37Speaker 4: in a Shakespeare I mean.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Oh, it's gotta be it's for me, Merchant of Venice
- 24:42Speaker 2: when he does the speech and they're all saying, oh,
- 24:45Speaker 2: you know, get this guy off. Yeah.
- 24:48Speaker 4: Yeah, I was gonna say that Mercutio scene in Romeo
- 24:51Speaker 4: and Juliet.
- 24:52Speaker 2: That's also a good one.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Oh I know that one by heart. I did that
- 24:57Speaker 1: as my my final showcase scene at juliaired.
- 25:00Speaker 6: Oh, let's do it, let's do it.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Uh wait, Kitty, Would you stand in for us?
- 25:06Speaker 6: Absolutely, I'll be standing for background. Excuse me, don't trick
- 25:10Speaker 6: me like that.
- 25:11Speaker 2: No, no, no, stand standing obviously obvious. Not maybe standing for Shakespeare.
- 25:14Speaker 4: I'll yeah, you can stand in for Shakespeare.
- 25:17Speaker 6: This is Shakespeare's smart Shakespeare. I'm going to sit here.
- 25:21Speaker 6: This is probably where they would like to light Shakespeare.
- 25:24Speaker 6: Room like this size, and the camera might be over there,
- 25:27Speaker 6: over the shoulder of Shakespeare.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Go ahead and three two, one scene on.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Hey, what time do you think we're going to get
- 25:37Speaker 3: out of here?
- 25:39Speaker 2: It looks like a twelve hours.
- 25:40Speaker 1: You can't stay that Wally.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Oh my god, I gotta feed him, well, god, I
- 25:47Speaker 3: gotta feed.
- 25:47Speaker 2: Him bees and garrets, watermelon, watermelon, water water, milk water.
- 25:59Speaker 5: If we get out at six, want to hit rush
- 26:01Speaker 5: out watermelon, you will have to go against the dragon
- 26:04Speaker 5: water Dean.
- 26:07Speaker 2: I felt really good about that.
- 26:08Speaker 3: That's exactly what I do.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Okay, when you get five pros in a room.
- 26:12Speaker 6: So Christine, you need to move to six inches to
- 26:15Speaker 6: the left next time you come in.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Oh, I would love to see Christina Shakespeare.
- 26:20Speaker 4: I would love to see Christine Brenski is Shakespeare and
- 26:24Speaker 4: Romeo and Juliet you.
- 26:27Speaker 5: Know what, I think that's a hard role to play
- 26:29Speaker 5: as Shakespeare. I think that's a hard role in that
- 26:32Speaker 5: in that musical. I think it's hard.
- 26:34Speaker 4: Why Shakespeare Rome and Juliet is one of the hardest
- 26:39Speaker 4: roles in the musical.
- 26:40Speaker 1: It's one of the hardest musicals. I'm don't talk about
- 26:43Speaker 1: one of the hardest roles in that.
- 26:45Speaker 5: One thousand percent. Okay, what's the crazy shit you guys
- 26:48Speaker 5: have ever seen on set?
- 26:51Speaker 1: How many hours do you have? No go ahead?
- 26:56Speaker 4: Never told us your favorite book by the way right now,
- 27:00Speaker 4: of course, but.
- 27:01Speaker 1: I've already read it. I read it on my first job,
- 27:03Speaker 1: and then I had nothing left to read. I thought, well,
- 27:05Speaker 1: this is it.
- 27:06Speaker 3: Yeah, you don't read.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Also, to jump back, Kitty, you never told us your secret.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I did. The secret was get into debt to do
- 27:12Speaker 1: what you need to do.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 27:13Speaker 3: That was a deep, deep oh that was your secret.
- 27:16Speaker 4: Clara really took that to her.
- 27:18Speaker 6: Clara has already We are secret sisters.
- 27:21Speaker 1: You know we are are secret sisters.
- 27:24Speaker 2: One of the worst things I've ever seen on set
- 27:25Speaker 2: was actually at that Petco Commercially I brought up earlier.
- 27:28Speaker 2: They brought in a large bull elephant and it got
- 27:33Speaker 2: aroused and it rushed. And when a bull elephant rushes,
- 27:37Speaker 2: it chooses a person and it won't stop until that
- 27:40Speaker 2: person is dead. And it chose my friend Gabriel. That
- 27:44Speaker 2: bull elephant rushed my friend Gabriel, it chased he was
- 27:47Speaker 2: running die on set. I saw somebody get gorged by
- 27:50Speaker 2: an elephant on set. Gabriel lives. Gabriel lives. What do
- 27:55Speaker 2: people know about it? Petco buried that thing so quick?
- 27:58Speaker 4: Oh is there an elephant to pet?
- 28:00Speaker 2: I was gonna ask, Well, they were trying to do
- 28:02Speaker 2: of like what It'd be funny if dogs were elephants,
- 28:05Speaker 2: that was the idea.
- 28:06Speaker 4: It would be really funny, and it was.
- 28:09Speaker 2: It was a very funny spot. It's so sad my
- 28:12Speaker 2: friend got gored because I really have good memories of
- 28:15Speaker 2: that spot.
- 28:16Speaker 6: That's horrify.
- 28:17Speaker 5: That's what they could do on those non union sets.
- 28:19Speaker 5: They could bring on those big fucking animals and scare everybody.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Yeah, why we join the union. I'm trying. I'm trying.
- 28:27Speaker 2: I've taken a class I took Mark mccaniels, Uh joined
- 28:30Speaker 2: the Union class how to Join the Union?
- 28:32Speaker 1: Oh?
- 28:33Speaker 4: I write about that in my newsletter.
- 28:34Speaker 2: What did you say?
- 28:35Speaker 4: That class? How it's a scam. Oh no, yeah, you
- 28:38Speaker 4: gotta watch out for it because he's gonna say the
- 28:41Speaker 4: last class. And when I tell you what did he say?
- 28:43Speaker 4: How many classes are you?
- 28:44Speaker 2: He said, this is a fifty week course. Yeah, last class.
- 28:47Speaker 2: I'll you will know.
- 28:49Speaker 5: You know what's another scam? Those set medics they I
- 28:53Speaker 5: don't know, not certify.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Let me tell you. I slipped the set Medica twenty
- 28:57Speaker 3: once and I say, can you say? I have a
- 28:58Speaker 3: fever and I gotta go home.
- 29:00Speaker 5: And this fucking guy gave him a fucking twenty dollars bill.
- 29:03Speaker 5: I was out the door four pm, HBO.
- 29:08Speaker 6: So he did what you requested and he and you
- 29:11Speaker 6: think he's a fraud because what doctor gets bribe. That's
- 29:16Speaker 6: a good point, that's a good guess.
- 29:18Speaker 4: So, yeah, what's the most horrific thing you've seen on set?
- 29:21Speaker 4: Kitty me? Yeah?
- 29:22Speaker 6: Wow, horrific? Yikes, I mean truly, after that elephant story,
- 29:27Speaker 6: I don't know if I want to talk about anything else.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Nobody's seen anything that bad, not the elephant.
- 29:34Speaker 1: I mean.
- 29:34Speaker 6: The worst is I went over to grab crafty and
- 29:38Speaker 6: it was the wrong one. It was the one for
- 29:40Speaker 6: you know, talent and not stand in some backer.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Wait, you weren't in that extra spire, were you? Or
- 29:46Speaker 1: was that Kitty Jacobs?
- 29:48Speaker 4: Oh?
- 29:48Speaker 7: God, Kitty Jacobs.
- 29:51Speaker 6: I Kitty Jacobs so lucky. I'm so I was so
- 29:58Speaker 6: happy when I read the news that Kitty Jacob's was
- 30:00Speaker 6: a flame in that extra fire.
- 30:02Speaker 4: Kitty.
- 30:03Speaker 6: Yes, Look, there can only be one kitty in Hollywood.
- 30:09Speaker 3: Not when you only work for Christine Branski. I think
- 30:13Speaker 3: the other kitty probably had plenty of jobs.
- 30:17Speaker 6: George, What did you have a fling with Kitty Jacobs?
- 30:21Speaker 1: Georgie, what's your deal? No?
- 30:22Speaker 6: But I think she's a beautiful brod Well, she's Anna Bride.
- 30:30Speaker 5: I saw pictures of her on her wedding day, said,
- 30:32Speaker 5: that's a beautiful bride.
- 30:34Speaker 6: Well she's burned to death. She's a Chrispy corpse now,
- 30:38Speaker 6: and that's I can't believe you all got me started
- 30:41Speaker 6: on Kiddy Jacobs.
- 30:42Speaker 1: How dare you?
- 30:42Speaker 6: Clara? After I was sympathized with you in your debt,
- 30:45Speaker 6: you bring up Kitty Jacob's.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Toye aye aye aye. So sorry, believe me, Kitty, I
- 30:49Speaker 1: love your work. I'm such a fan of your scene
- 30:51Speaker 1: on How I Met your Mother. I replay it all
- 30:53Speaker 1: the time. Thank you. I would never intentionally bring up
- 30:57Speaker 1: someone so so hurtful to you, but I should say
- 31:02Speaker 1: just for to save my own ass. Rest in peace,
- 31:05Speaker 1: Kitty Jacobs, You did not deserve to die in the
- 31:07Speaker 1: extra spire of two thousand.
- 31:09Speaker 2: And four and all of those extras that we lost
- 31:11Speaker 2: that day.
- 31:11Speaker 4: Yeah, seven hundred and fifty. The most horrific thing I've
- 31:16Speaker 4: ever seen on set. I saw Vince Vaughn completely rip
- 31:22Speaker 4: an extra a new asshole, like just really really really
- 31:26Speaker 4: rail into him.
- 31:27Speaker 3: Did the extra deserve it?
- 31:29Speaker 4: I did? I did deserve it. It was me.
- 31:31Speaker 2: It was awful. It was half a feeling.
- 31:34Speaker 4: So I was a waiter in a diner scene. We
- 31:37Speaker 4: were shooting this movie called Second Chances, and he was
- 31:41Speaker 4: playing a guy who came back to life, a dirtbag
- 31:45Speaker 4: who came back to life as a priest.
- 31:47Speaker 2: And crux of a movie.
- 31:49Speaker 4: Yeah, pretty big crux of the movie. And it's like,
- 31:51Speaker 4: can he you know, if he doesn't commit any sinse,
- 31:54Speaker 4: he can stay alive. Otherwise they're going to bring him
- 31:56Speaker 4: back to heaven. And uh, he was in a diner
- 32:00Speaker 4: scene and as a waiter, I'd been on a couple
- 32:03Speaker 4: of rolls, you know, I'd been in a couple of
- 32:05Speaker 4: movies where I was getting rolls, people were asking me
- 32:07Speaker 4: to to say lines and stuff. So I think I
- 32:10Speaker 4: was feeling a little hot, and I was feeling a
- 32:12Speaker 4: little uh maybe a little too big for my breeches.
- 32:15Speaker 4: And I was supposed to be giving meals to other
- 32:17Speaker 4: people in the scenes, and I decided to just PLoP
- 32:19Speaker 4: a meal right in front of him as he was talking.
- 32:22Speaker 4: And I thought the directors might say, hey, that's a
- 32:24Speaker 4: good choice.
- 32:25Speaker 2: You don't want to do that.
- 32:26Speaker 4: Yeah, they did. He didn't like it. And it was
- 32:30Speaker 4: a buffalo chicken sandwich. And he picked it up and
- 32:32Speaker 4: he said, if you put this in front of my
- 32:35Speaker 4: face again, I'm going to slaughter you, like the poor
- 32:41Speaker 4: little animal who's on this bun.
- 32:43Speaker 1: And it was hard to hear that graphic.
- 32:46Speaker 4: Yeah, it was brutal. And then and then he said, no, no, no, no,
- 32:49Speaker 4: you want to be on the camera. Here here, here, here,
- 32:51Speaker 4: here you yeah, yeah, you know what, Let's get him
- 32:52Speaker 4: on camera. And he got the cameraman and he pulled
- 32:54Speaker 4: the cameraman really in close to my face and he said, hey,
- 32:57Speaker 4: get this space, get him on camera. He wants to
- 32:58Speaker 4: be on camera. Look at this really really smart guy.
- 33:01Speaker 4: Let him. Let's let him be on camera. Huh. And
- 33:03Speaker 4: then he took me and he said, let's let's make
- 33:05Speaker 4: you the star of the movie. And he walked me
- 33:07Speaker 4: into his star trailer and he said, hey, let's let's
- 33:09Speaker 4: let you sit in the trailer.
- 33:10Speaker 3: Nobody.
- 33:11Speaker 4: He took me out, He took nobody, took me to wardrobe.
- 33:14Speaker 4: He said, let's let you. Let's let's do it. He
- 33:16Speaker 4: put on all his costumes on me. He said, oh,
- 33:18Speaker 4: you look good in this costume. He said, oh, let's
- 33:20Speaker 4: put you. Let's put you in this car. And he
- 33:22Speaker 4: put me in his own Ferrari and he sat me
- 33:24Speaker 4: down and forgave me the keys. He said, let's go
- 33:25Speaker 4: for a ride, and he drove around. He made me
- 33:27Speaker 4: drive him around in the pride. He said, let's go
- 33:29Speaker 4: to my house. Let's take a bath for this or
- 33:32Speaker 4: they were rolling. They were rolling. There was a lot
- 33:34Speaker 4: of be footage they needed, so they were just getting
- 33:36Speaker 4: kind of different plates and men.
- 33:37Speaker 3: You didn't have to go in the car.
- 33:39Speaker 4: I got in the car, into his house. I got
- 33:41Speaker 4: in the bath. He made me sit in the bath.
- 33:43Speaker 4: He said, oh you like that being in the bath,
- 33:44Speaker 4: you know. He made me It was twenty four hours
- 33:46Speaker 4: of a beratement and it was really really brutal. And
- 33:49Speaker 4: then at the end I said I'm sorry. He said,
- 33:51Speaker 4: never do that again, and I done.
- 33:53Speaker 2: I honestly say that that sounds wonderful. That sounds like
- 33:56Speaker 2: you got a bath in a nice house.
- 33:58Speaker 4: Looking back on, he gave me the time of my life.
- 34:01Speaker 4: But it was the yelling and it was the it
- 34:02Speaker 4: was the patronizing that was kind of tough.
- 34:04Speaker 3: Yeah, that's pretty tough. I got patronized the fuck out
- 34:06Speaker 3: of me by Margot Robbie.
- 34:08Speaker 4: What did she do?
- 34:09Speaker 1: Who?
- 34:09Speaker 3: Yeah, she looked at me and said, hey, little peanut man, and.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Were you dressed like a peanut?
- 34:16Speaker 3: It was an eminem spot.
- 34:18Speaker 2: It sounds like she was just trying to direct you somewhere.
- 34:21Speaker 4: Maybe yeah, yeah, what.
- 34:22Speaker 3: You say after she said, hey, little peanut man, move
- 34:26Speaker 3: over the left.
- 34:26Speaker 2: Yeah, that sounds like sounds now.
- 34:29Speaker 3: It felt like she was fucking ripping me apart.
- 34:33Speaker 4: You seem pretty sensitive for someone who just wants to
- 34:35Speaker 4: get out all the time.
- 34:36Speaker 3: Well, I want to get out of there. I don't
- 34:38Speaker 3: want anybody talk to me when I show up to work.
- 34:40Speaker 5: I don't want to talk to one person I'm gonna
- 34:42Speaker 5: listen to where I go, and that's it. When I
- 34:45Speaker 5: get addressed directly, I get worried.
- 34:48Speaker 6: But you're coming up to people asking, Hey, how are you?
- 34:51Speaker 6: When are we gonna get out of it here?
- 34:52Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 34:52Speaker 3: I do next.
- 34:53Speaker 5: I want to know what I'm getting at it here.
- 34:55Speaker 5: But I don't want to be told what to do.
- 34:58Speaker 5: I'd do something else. I'd go to school if I
- 35:00Speaker 5: wanted to be told what to do.
- 35:01Speaker 1: What do you want to do? What's your? What's your?
- 35:04Speaker 2: What's your?
- 35:04Speaker 4: I want to get I want to get out, okay,
- 35:07Speaker 4: But but what do you want to get into the most?
- 35:09Speaker 4: And what do you want to get out of the most?
- 35:10Speaker 3: I want to get money, I want to feed my wife,
- 35:12Speaker 3: and I want to get out.
- 35:14Speaker 6: Okay, what's your wife like?
- 35:16Speaker 3: Maybe that's why I don't like to be addressed directly.
- 35:20Speaker 6: Do you mean what does that mean?
- 35:23Speaker 5: I like this set job because I'm gone for hours
- 35:27Speaker 5: because my wife's fucking.
- 35:29Speaker 3: Driving me nuts. I can't get away from the woman.
- 35:36Speaker 1: So so you took a job that famously has extremely
- 35:40Speaker 1: long hours so that you could get away from the
- 35:42Speaker 1: woman who loves you.
- 35:44Speaker 4: Well, But Georgie sounds like you get home and you
- 35:46Speaker 4: want to get back away from her, but you want
- 35:48Speaker 4: to get away from your job. Doesn't sound like you
- 35:50Speaker 4: want to be present for anything in your life. If
- 35:52Speaker 4: I'm being honest with you.
- 35:53Speaker 3: Well, I'm a man in America.
- 35:56Speaker 4: Oh God, no, absolutely not.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Praise your way out of this one, Georgie.
- 36:03Speaker 4: Don't do that. We don't have sympathy for men right now.
- 36:06Speaker 1: No, I'm a poor male, Georgie. I listen, you gotta
- 36:14Speaker 1: life is gonna drive right past you like a semi truck.
- 36:18Speaker 1: You gotta hold on to something. You gotta find something
- 36:22Speaker 1: to hold on.
- 36:23Speaker 3: To the truck at I mean, you gotta.
- 36:26Speaker 1: The truck is moving faster than that extra truck crash
- 36:31Speaker 1: of two thousand and seven.
- 36:36Speaker 6: Mark That one almost got Kiddy the first time, but
- 36:39Speaker 6: it didn't finish her off till the fire.
- 36:41Speaker 2: It's so sad those two giant trucks, both carrying extras,
- 36:45Speaker 2: ran into each other.
- 36:46Speaker 4: I thought it was really ironic that that was literally
- 36:49Speaker 4: on the set of Final Destination three. Yeah.
- 36:51Speaker 3: I don't trust those team stirs. I take my own car.
- 36:55Speaker 5: Car, yeah right, you know, if they're set parking, I
- 36:58Speaker 5: take my own car to set or call a new
- 37:00Speaker 5: Those teamsters are mad men.
- 37:01Speaker 3: We lost a lot of good guys that day.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Okay, maybe we moved to something, you know, lighter. What's
- 37:07Speaker 2: everybody's best day on set? Just to hear, you know,
- 37:10Speaker 2: the positives of background and stand in work, you know.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Oh man, it was you know what it was. It
- 37:17Speaker 1: was two and a half men and they did a
- 37:21Speaker 1: rare because that's a multiicam, they did a rare crowd
- 37:24Speaker 1: scene in that they were at the mall and I
- 37:28Speaker 1: was one of those sunglasses vendors and then Charlie Sheen
- 37:32Speaker 1: came over and any hit on me and it was
- 37:36Speaker 1: so realistic, this was in real life that they just
- 37:39Speaker 1: started rolling and suddenly suddenly I was in it.
- 37:43Speaker 2: I remember seeing you in that one.
- 37:45Speaker 1: You let me see if you hug you remember this?
- 37:49Speaker 1: Do you remember the nod where I kind of go,
- 37:51Speaker 1: oh okay.
- 37:52Speaker 2: I remember that and I was like, this background is
- 37:55Speaker 2: killing it.
- 37:56Speaker 1: But closed mouth, of course, close mouth. I did not
- 37:59Speaker 1: get an open mouth.
- 38:00Speaker 4: Let's let's let's break down what makes us see a
- 38:04Speaker 4: background person and say they're killing it because we might
- 38:07Speaker 4: have a set of eyes. Did anyone listening to this
- 38:09Speaker 4: if this is something we're supposed to even be doing
- 38:11Speaker 4: and talking about Yeah, what is it? What is it
- 38:14Speaker 4: about Clara's performance that you really call?
- 38:17Speaker 2: Well, for me, it's I want to see a background
- 38:19Speaker 2: actor that pulls you out of the movie, that makes
- 38:22Speaker 2: you go, there's a background actor doing their job, not
- 38:26Speaker 2: there's a glasses vendor doing their job. I want to
- 38:29Speaker 2: see a background actor trying to emulate what they're guessing
- 38:33Speaker 2: a glasses vendor would be doing that day. And for me,
- 38:37Speaker 2: you know, Clara Tuna grabbed it that day. Oh she
- 38:41Speaker 2: grabbed my attention and I knew this girl's got it,
- 38:45Speaker 2: and thank you.
- 38:45Speaker 1: It's all about approximating human movement, you know, it's good.
- 38:48Speaker 3: Yeah, Like I love a good nod, like a nod.
- 38:52Speaker 1: You know what. What what makes me notice, what really stands
- 38:57Speaker 1: out to me is is when people put plates down
- 39:01Speaker 1: in front of people with focus and intention and it's
- 39:05Speaker 1: like they're staring the plate down as they put it down.
- 39:08Speaker 1: That's just something that really really goes the extra mile
- 39:12Speaker 1: for me.
- 39:12Speaker 4: You know what I love? And actually, Georgie, this is
- 39:14Speaker 4: work that I remember of yours. You were in Crazy
- 39:17Speaker 4: Stupid Love, correct yea, you know there's that one with
- 39:20Speaker 4: the other with the other. Steph Corell, the actual one.
- 39:22Speaker 4: There was that one scene where you know, Emma Stone
- 39:25Speaker 4: says something outrageous and leaves the restaurant. And one of
- 39:29Speaker 4: my favorite things I like to watch is the actors
- 39:31Speaker 4: that are sitting at different tables as someone leaves a restaurant.
- 39:34Speaker 4: And remember, your face was so outrageous, over the top,
- 39:40Speaker 4: kind of like this man is way too invested in
- 39:43Speaker 4: this woman saying this random thing that he clearly hadn't hurt,
- 39:47Speaker 4: you know, like this person is trying too hard. And
- 39:49Speaker 4: I said, that is a good background actor. Do you
- 39:51Speaker 4: remember that day?
- 39:52Speaker 3: I do that.
- 39:54Speaker 5: I love Emma Stone and my wife won't let me
- 39:56Speaker 5: watch her movies because she knows I love her.
- 39:59Speaker 3: And so that day on set was a delight. It
- 40:03Speaker 3: was a delight. I couldn't get my eyes offer.
- 40:05Speaker 1: So you like that job because you got to ogle
- 40:08Speaker 1: Emma Stone.
- 40:09Speaker 2: It wasn't that, it wasn't an actual reaction of reaction
- 40:12Speaker 2: to the lines you were just that was your face.
- 40:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:15Speaker 4: I do kind of regret bringing that out because that
- 40:17Speaker 4: does make me like that seat a little bit less.
- 40:19Speaker 3: Now, Well, thank you.
- 40:21Speaker 6: On the last another, uh, another tough thing we do
- 40:26Speaker 6: here as background is you guys ever do a party scene.
- 40:30Speaker 1: Oh, let's talk a party. See a lot of people
- 40:34Speaker 1: get to it. Yeah, there's no music on when we're dancing.
- 40:40Speaker 1: When you believe, you play in your head when that happens.
- 40:43Speaker 6: Dancing Queen Ebba to the point where sometimes I go
- 40:47Speaker 6: to a party and they're playing music and I'm like,
- 40:48Speaker 6: I'm not gonna dance.
- 40:49Speaker 1: Get that's right.
- 40:51Speaker 6: I can't dance with music on anymore, not after all
- 40:53Speaker 6: the years of work we've done.
- 40:55Speaker 3: I don't cups that don't have anything in it.
- 40:57Speaker 4: I cannot be at a party with music on.
- 40:59Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 41:00Speaker 4: But I feel the same way with you, guys. I cannot.
- 41:02Speaker 4: I say turn this off concerts, I say, quieter, you
- 41:07Speaker 4: going to a party?
- 41:08Speaker 1: I feel like I'm about to call asleep?
- 41:11Speaker 3: You know you?
- 41:12Speaker 1: Guys?
- 41:12Speaker 5: Ever hold a newspaper and not read it? I do
- 41:15Speaker 5: that on set all the time.
- 41:16Speaker 1: I forgot how to read because of because of holding
- 41:19Speaker 1: it so much.
- 41:20Speaker 3: Used to just holding it. That's the work, that's a job.
- 41:22Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 41:22Speaker 1: That's why you haven't read a book since the Bible? Yes,
- 41:25Speaker 1: I don't remember.
- 41:27Speaker 4: And I will say too, how hard is it for
- 41:30Speaker 4: all of us to sit down and eat a meal?
- 41:32Speaker 4: You know, we usually aren't supposed to eat that set food.
- 41:35Speaker 4: When I said it a diner and I have a
- 41:36Speaker 4: real plate of food in front of me, it's hard
- 41:38Speaker 4: for me to remember to actually put it in my mouth.
- 41:40Speaker 3: Yes, I move it around. I move it around. My
- 41:42Speaker 3: wife goes, you're working again, and I go, oh my.
- 41:44Speaker 6: God, she does sound annoying.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Thank you, nag bitch. I will say thank you, tuna.
- 41:53Speaker 2: I do you guys ever catch yourself not speaking to
- 41:56Speaker 2: a waiter, but mouthing words to a waiter, all what
- 42:01Speaker 2: can I get you? And I go.
- 42:04Speaker 4: And if you can't, if you can't see that, it's
- 42:06Speaker 4: he's mouthing y.
- 42:07Speaker 2: I'm mouthing chicken, you know. And I go, I'm so sorry.
- 42:10Speaker 2: It's working again.
- 42:12Speaker 6: You know.
- 42:12Speaker 1: You never catch yourself just looking in amazement at whoever
- 42:17Speaker 1: might be the most main character ish person on the street.
- 42:21Speaker 3: Who's ever in a jewel tone?
- 42:23Speaker 1: Right, Yes, they're wearing jewel tones. We must stare at them.
- 42:28Speaker 2: It's something about the glitter. It catches me. And I
- 42:30Speaker 2: got a look. I always have a moment and then
- 42:33Speaker 2: I look right back.
- 42:34Speaker 4: I feel like I'm colored on except for jewel tones.
- 42:36Speaker 4: Sometimes it is crazy, that's.
- 42:38Speaker 6: Right, you guys ever catch yourself. Maybe this is just
- 42:40Speaker 6: a stand in thing. You know, if you're at a
- 42:42Speaker 6: restaurant and someone gets up to go to the bathroom,
- 42:44Speaker 6: you move from your seat and take their seat while
- 42:46Speaker 6: they're gone.
- 42:47Speaker 4: That must be just a stand in thing.
- 42:49Speaker 2: That must be you must be a thing. That must
- 42:52Speaker 2: be just a thing. You must have a lot of
- 42:54Speaker 2: difficulties in your life.
- 42:55Speaker 1: Yeah, totally.
- 42:55Speaker 6: And then they come back from the bathroom and they're like,
- 42:57Speaker 6: what are you doing? And I go sit two inches
- 42:59Speaker 6: to the right and then I go back to my seat.
- 43:02Speaker 5: Really yeah, Oh you know, Kitty, I think I we
- 43:05Speaker 5: went to a wedding. We went to uh we had
- 43:09Speaker 5: a mutual friend who got married.
- 43:10Speaker 3: And you stood up there in the at the altar.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, I did.
- 43:15Speaker 4: Was that I was there. I was that.
- 43:18Speaker 2: I was there too.
- 43:19Speaker 5: It was Steve Cral, the cast and director's wedding.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Him to invite everyone, No, well almost everyone.
- 43:28Speaker 4: Shoot.
- 43:28Speaker 6: I thought we did it.
- 43:29Speaker 1: I thought it's fine.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Thing.
- 43:30Speaker 1: We were all at Oh, it's fine, it's fine.
- 43:33Speaker 3: From something we worked on a job. All of us
- 43:35Speaker 3: together want something.
- 43:37Speaker 2: It's gotta be something.
- 43:38Speaker 4: Were you guys involved in that Gaffers tape? Class action lawsuit.
- 43:46Speaker 2: What was that?
- 43:47Speaker 4: That was there was a specific type of Gaffers tape
- 43:51Speaker 4: that was toxic and they were using it to mark
- 43:53Speaker 4: where we were standing. And every every background actor that
- 43:57Speaker 4: had come into contact with this Gaffers was involved in
- 44:00Speaker 4: this class action lawsuit. I was in it. I got
- 44:03Speaker 4: a payout of about I think three jobs. They give
- 44:07Speaker 4: me three jobs out of it. They give me just jobs.
- 44:09Speaker 2: They had to work though.
- 44:10Speaker 4: I had to work for it.
- 44:11Speaker 3: Wait, so they paid you up, I gave you more jobs.
- 44:13Speaker 4: The judge declared that the tape company had to find
- 44:17Speaker 4: three jobs for fifty thousand background actors.
- 44:21Speaker 2: It was one hundred and.
- 44:23Speaker 4: Judge, talk about it, sence job judge. That judge was
- 44:31Speaker 4: a pro labor judge, a weird judge, and has since
- 44:34Speaker 4: been disbarred.
- 44:36Speaker 1: Okay, wait, I have one more question. So the gaff
- 44:39Speaker 1: tape on the floor, Yeah, you stand on it and
- 44:42Speaker 1: what happens to you?
- 44:44Speaker 4: It was just gonna be like stand over there. It was.
- 44:45Speaker 4: It was the type of set where they ran out
- 44:47Speaker 4: of kind of marker tape and then they were using
- 44:49Speaker 4: gaff tape.
- 44:50Speaker 1: So does it melt your feet?
- 44:51Speaker 2: Like what?
- 44:52Speaker 4: It's the fumes and and it is it smells and
- 44:56Speaker 4: it's bad. And then we used it on set of
- 45:01Speaker 4: this mad Max Fury road.
- 45:03Speaker 6: It was a huge They were taping the sand out there.
- 45:07Speaker 4: They were taping the sand.
- 45:08Speaker 2: Yeah, loss of disaster. Sand moves in an instant.
- 45:12Speaker 4: Well, there was this whole thing where George Miller was like,
- 45:14Speaker 4: I can't believe this tape is sticking so well to
- 45:16Speaker 4: the sand. And we're like, well, that should have been
- 45:18Speaker 4: a big morning.
- 45:20Speaker 5: You should have thought our health is at risk if
- 45:22Speaker 5: we're taping down these small particles.
- 45:25Speaker 4: Yes, right, And I'm gonna be honest, I wish there
- 45:27Speaker 4: was a class actually lost against this sand. That stuff
- 45:30Speaker 4: I had. I had a brown lung for weeks after
- 45:33Speaker 4: working in that desert.
- 45:34Speaker 5: Oh, I won't working on beaches and sand, No, no, no,
- 45:37Speaker 5: I get too dirty.
- 45:38Speaker 3: I track it into my ship when I come on
- 45:40Speaker 3: in my whole life.
- 45:41Speaker 4: What is your wife there?
- 45:42Speaker 5: So you're tracking in shit and I gotta go outside
- 45:44Speaker 5: and pose myself off.
- 45:47Speaker 6: She sounds awful.
- 45:49Speaker 1: She sounds like a huge bitch.
- 45:52Speaker 4: She truly I hate her.
- 45:54Speaker 1: What about you, guys?
- 45:55Speaker 5: Do you keep up like a healthy family life with
- 45:58Speaker 5: our crazy job?
- 45:59Speaker 3: Do you guys have a partner or.
- 46:01Speaker 1: What, well, I live in Christine's back house.
- 46:06Speaker 4: You do?
- 46:08Speaker 1: She doesn't know. I'm mad. She's a squatter.
- 46:11Speaker 8: I beg to differ. She's You're in these big ass

- 46:26Speaker 4: was gonna say.
- 46:28Speaker 6: Well, don't tell her that I'm there, but yes, I
- 46:30Speaker 6: have been squatting in Christine's back house for a while.
- 46:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:34Speaker 6: Uh, you know, the shoes take up most of the house.
- 46:39Speaker 2: I've got a question. Go ahead, when she's not there,
- 46:42Speaker 2: do you go into her house and just kind of
- 46:44Speaker 2: stand around where she would be.
- 46:47Speaker 6: I pop those shoes on, I walk on in there.
- 46:51Speaker 6: I pour myself a glass of wine. WHOA, I sit
- 46:55Speaker 6: in her armchair?
- 46:57Speaker 1: Does she have different lighting options? Like does she have
- 47:00Speaker 1: a dimmer switch or is it all the same.
- 47:02Speaker 6: She's got that thing, the the Alexa, you know, and yeah, yeah.
- 47:08Speaker 3: I named my daughter Alexa.
- 47:13Speaker 1: We'll circle back to your daughter, Georgie.

- 47:17Speaker 4: to anyway.
- 47:18Speaker 6: I just tell the Alexa, I go Alexa play movie
- 47:21Speaker 6: lighting and then.
- 47:22Speaker 1: That's what happened.
- 47:24Speaker 4: Can I ask you something, Kitty?

- 47:37Speaker 5: That's not about you dead.
- 47:42Speaker 4: The only thing you talk about are you? The person
- 47:44Speaker 4: you hate who's dead, and the person you love who
- 47:46Speaker 4: you want to be?
- 47:47Speaker 6: Okay? And your point?
- 47:49Speaker 4: I am missing your point? Who is well?
- 47:55Speaker 1: I read the Da Vinci Code.
- 47:57Speaker 4: That's true.
- 47:58Speaker 1: I'm finished. That's part of a person.

- 49:16Speaker 1: fucking me, we need help. I feel like we're in
- 49:21Speaker 1: an identity crisis. I don't know if any of us
- 49:24Speaker 1: know who we are. We've spent so long playing nameless,
- 49:30Speaker 1: silent people.
- 49:32Speaker 2: Well, why don't we go around and empower ourselves or
- 49:35Speaker 2: each other? Say somebody's name and say what they are
- 49:38Speaker 2: to you? Huh? Does that sound like good or fun?
- 49:41Speaker 2: Does that sound interesting to anybody? I would love to

- 49:54Speaker 2: looked I could do it for you, and in turn,
- 49:58Speaker 2: you could do it for me, and we could empower

- 50:29Speaker 2: film them.
- 50:30Speaker 4: What are your shorts about?

- 50:34Speaker 2: It's about a man trapped inside of space and he goes.
- 50:40Speaker 2: Basically what it is, it's an illusion and allegory for
- 50:44Speaker 2: the pandemic.
- 50:46Speaker 5: Yo.
- 50:47Speaker 4: Good, So instead of a pandemic, it's instead of trapped
- 50:50Speaker 4: inside of house, is trapped in space.

- 50:59Speaker 2: told from you know, a young girl's perspective. I wrote it.
- 51:03Speaker 2: I'm really proud of it. And then there's another one
- 51:07Speaker 2: kind of about the founding of Americas that is an
- 51:13Speaker 2: allegory for Trump's America basically, so it's really interesting. Yeah, basically,
- 51:19Speaker 2: these good people moved to America.
- 51:21Speaker 1: And I can't be in these films. Yeah, you can't
- 51:26Speaker 1: be in any of these what?
- 51:27Speaker 2: No, I can be in all of these What but
- 51:30Speaker 2: I was always going to be the background in all
- 51:32Speaker 2: of them.
- 51:35Speaker 1: Roles for yourself? You know what?
- 51:37Speaker 6: Can you matter?
