Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, everyone, Welcome to the Inside the Birds pregame Show.
- 0:13Speaker 1: It's Jeff Mosher and Adam kaplan. Of course, as always
- 0:16Speaker 1: with us, is Greg Cosell to give us a tape
- 0:18Speaker 1: breakdown on the Eagles opponent. Although we all agreed we're
- 0:22Speaker 1: gonna switch it up a little bit for the pregame show.
- 0:24Speaker 1: The Eagles and Commanders will be playing the Week eighteen
- 0:27Speaker 1: season finale at the Link on Sunday at a four
- 0:29Speaker 1: o'clock kick off four twenty five whatever. However, we know
- 0:34Speaker 1: it's not going to be that big of a game
- 0:35Speaker 1: because the Eagles are playing their backups. They've already talked
- 0:38Speaker 1: about it. The Commanders have been playing backups for weeks,
- 0:40Speaker 1: not intentionally, but because they have so many injuries and
- 0:43Speaker 1: they're not a very good team. So what we thought
- 0:45Speaker 1: we would do is we'll get into some of the
- 0:48Speaker 1: players who are gonna play in this game. For them,
- 0:50Speaker 1: the Eagles and Commanders are just about what Greg has
- 0:53Speaker 1: seen from them on tape, just because they could be
- 0:55Speaker 1: integral parts of the futures of both franchises. And then
- 0:58Speaker 1: we'll take a bigger picture look at the Eagles as
- 1:01Speaker 1: they get ready to go into the playoffs. After this week, So, uh, Greg,
- 1:07Speaker 1: I want to start focusing on a couple of Eagles
- 1:09Speaker 1: here that are going to see some time on the field,
- 1:13Speaker 1: their backups who will be playing. But obviously Darius Cooper
- 1:17Speaker 1: ye has played for the Eagles and he's he's sort
- 1:20Speaker 1: of taken on that. Johnny Wilson, I'm going to be
- 1:22Speaker 1: in on blocking, I know, And you know what, you
- 1:26Speaker 1: made a great you really I didn't even notice it
- 1:29Speaker 1: as much in training camp, Adam and I noticed that
- 1:31Speaker 1: he was a bigger guy. Yeah, especially for an under
- 1:33Speaker 1: after free agent. But you know, I remember you saying
- 1:36Speaker 1: he was built like if he was standing next to
- 1:38Speaker 1: a J. Brown, you might think that they had similar builds.
- 1:41Speaker 1: And clearly that strength and that muscle that he brings
- 1:44Speaker 1: has paid off because that's how they'd used him early on.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Well, it's funny because I did not watch him coming
- 1:51Speaker 2: out of college. You know, I'll be the first to
- 1:53Speaker 2: admit I can't watch everybody. I'm one person. But then
- 1:56Speaker 2: when I saw the preseason Jeff and that he had
- 1:58Speaker 2: that big game in the preseason in I actually went
- 2:01Speaker 2: back and watched some of his college tape just because
- 2:03Speaker 2: I'm curious, you know, because I kept hearing from you guys,
- 2:06Speaker 2: from others that this guy's probably gonna make the team.
- 2:08Speaker 2: So I wanted to, you know, go back and take
- 2:10Speaker 2: a look at him. And he was a little thinner
- 2:12Speaker 2: when he was in I think it was he thinner, Yeah,
- 2:14Speaker 2: I think he was in college. Yeah, yeah, And I
- 2:17Speaker 2: liked his college tape, you know, so you know, I
- 2:21Speaker 2: became intrigued by him. And he's been playing you know,
- 2:24Speaker 2: a good number of snaps. Now they don't really throw
- 2:26Speaker 2: it to him very much, and who knows what his
- 2:28Speaker 2: future will be, but you know, obviously he's earned a place.
- 2:33Speaker 2: He must be you guys follow this part closer than
- 2:36Speaker 2: I do. He must be a good special teams player,
- 2:39Speaker 2: so you know, we'll see. But you're right, he's he's
- 2:42Speaker 2: one of those guys that lines up a lot of
- 2:44Speaker 2: times very tight to the formation, and they use him
- 2:47Speaker 2: as a run blocker and he's obviously doing that.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Well, yeah, he was.
- 2:51Speaker 4: He went to Tarlton State as a quarterback, and they
- 2:53Speaker 4: got to him early in his career. And that said,
- 2:55Speaker 4: you know, if you really want to make it here,
- 2:56Speaker 4: you probably need to change positions, which was receiver, right
- 2:59Speaker 4: and somewhere between fifteen and twenty pounds he's put on, yeah,
- 3:03Speaker 4: since his college days. And I mean, Jeff and I
- 3:06Speaker 4: were in training camp, Greg, That's what I called you.
- 3:07Speaker 4: I said, hey, have you anything but Darius Cooper? You
- 3:10Speaker 4: said you weren't familiar with Well, first of all, there
- 3:13Speaker 4: was no All Star Games. You know, when you don't
- 3:15Speaker 4: get that is an incredible job by Camp Bradfield. They're
- 3:19Speaker 4: Southwest scout. Jeff, Yeah, that is a hell of a fine.
- 3:23Speaker 4: This kid was a baller, one of the better, sort
- 3:26Speaker 4: of a Hank basket asque training camp.
- 3:28Speaker 3: I mean he was.
- 3:29Speaker 4: It was so obvious two and a half three weeks in.
- 3:32Speaker 4: He's got to make it. There's no way they're cutting them,
- 3:34Speaker 4: putting them for favors. The word got out, so good
- 3:36Speaker 4: job of scouting there by the.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Yeah. Yes, And interestingly, it does look like they've you know,
- 3:44Speaker 1: he's been in on more eleven personnel as the season's
- 3:46Speaker 1: gone on.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Here, right, I've noticed that for sure.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Yeah, and not just in the blocking roles. So it
- 3:51Speaker 1: does look and he's had to keep drew a PI
- 3:54Speaker 1: in the game before against maybe the Raiders. It was again,
- 3:57Speaker 1: it looks like that they're targeting him when they ken
- 4:00Speaker 1: or trying to get him involved, and I think, you know,
- 4:02Speaker 1: this will be a good, good game here Sunday with
- 4:05Speaker 1: him playing with Tanner McKee kind of like what we
- 4:07Speaker 1: saw from Aniah Smith last year. I think mckeeth targeted
- 4:10Speaker 1: him quite a bit and got him his first touchdown.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Well, in the.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Preseason he played with m and McKey threw him. That
- 4:15Speaker 2: was the game he did. Well, that's the one throwing
- 4:17Speaker 2: him the ball.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, Hey, look it's important, Adam. I think we
- 4:22Speaker 1: we don't really know what's going to go on in
- 4:24Speaker 1: the pre in in the offseason, and you know that's
- 4:27Speaker 1: obviously going to depend on how far the Eagles go
- 4:29Speaker 1: in the postseason. There could be major changes, there could
- 4:31Speaker 1: be minor changes. But regardless, I believe this is the
- 4:36Speaker 1: final year of Johan Dotson's contract.
- 4:38Speaker 4: Yes, yes, yes, uh Cooper almost certainly will replace him. Now,
- 4:42Speaker 4: the question would be do they look out, do they
- 4:45Speaker 4: let him compete for the three? Did they see him
- 4:47Speaker 4: be four? Because Johnny Wilson will be back and he
- 4:49Speaker 4: had a major injury, but he'll be back. We know
- 4:51Speaker 4: that Wilson was their block and receiver. That's why he
- 4:54Speaker 4: was on the football team. Really, it's worthless. And we
- 4:57Speaker 4: talked about this earlier in the season, that they've missed
- 4:59Speaker 4: him and that blocking role. There's no question about it.
- 5:02Speaker 4: But Cooper, he attacks the football. He's improved greatly. It's
- 5:06Speaker 4: been a really remarkable Stewart. Maybe it helps somebody he's
- 5:09Speaker 4: a former quarterback, but he is a guy that's going
- 5:12Speaker 4: to be in the mix of a role. There's no
- 5:13Speaker 4: question next year. And Johann Dotson and Greg talked about
- 5:17Speaker 4: they don't throw the ball at the back very much.
- 5:19Speaker 4: But you have to remember, though, I'll take what Greg
- 5:22Speaker 4: said a little further. Cooper and Dotson work more with
- 5:28Speaker 4: McKee than Hurts does because the back with the second team,
- 5:32Speaker 4: so Cooper it is more of a possession receiver than Dotson.
- 5:35Speaker 4: You might see dots on some shot plays sold in
- 5:37Speaker 4: the Super Bowl and late last season. Cooper is a
- 5:41Speaker 4: more run after the catch type guy. And we'll see
- 5:45Speaker 4: what happens. But I'm so fascinated just to see what
- 5:47Speaker 4: McKee does with these two guys, especially Cooper.
- 5:51Speaker 1: There you go. I'm very curious as we go to
- 5:53Speaker 1: Tanne McKee too, Greg, to see how the Eagles designed well,
- 5:58Speaker 1: first of all, to see exactly what the offensive line
- 5:59Speaker 1: is going to look like now they they elevated Cameron
- 6:03Speaker 1: Williams for this game, which is.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Pretty interesting playing right tackle.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I wasn't the first, but now I'm thinking at him
- 6:10Speaker 1: that he will and they'll play prior at right guard
- 6:12Speaker 1: and they'll play at left guard and probably possible.
- 6:17Speaker 4: But I understand this is the deadline this week for
- 6:20Speaker 4: to activate him. You can't if they didn't activate, and
- 6:22Speaker 4: he wouldn't even if he's totally healthy. By the way,
- 6:25Speaker 4: he could not practice in the playoffs unless they activated
- 6:30Speaker 4: him to the fifty three right.
- 6:33Speaker 3: So that's part of this.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Now the thought process is we understood it the entire season,
- 6:37Speaker 4: was going to play the season. But he's healthy, he's healthy,
- 6:40Speaker 4: he's very raw, he's a total developmental player.
- 6:44Speaker 3: He's talking about Williams. Yeah, Cam Williams. But I can't find.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Scenario of them elevating him to not play him.
- 6:51Speaker 3: No, I'm going they elevated him. First of all.
- 6:55Speaker 4: The part of it is he cannot practice past this
- 6:58Speaker 4: week if you don't put him on the fifty fee.
- 7:00Speaker 4: That's a big reason. By the dumb rolls, which I hate.
- 7:02Speaker 4: I've taught this a number of times, but on.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Your point, he's healthy.
- 7:07Speaker 4: See you muscle plan and let him get some snaps
- 7:09Speaker 4: on whether he starts or not is the question, right,
- 7:13Speaker 4: He's a guy, Greg. I don't know if you you
- 7:14Speaker 4: know what was in your notes or if you did,
- 7:16Speaker 4: I'm looking at it right now. Okay, But every scout
- 7:18Speaker 4: that I talked to said he is so far away
- 7:20Speaker 4: from being ready. But there's a ton of talent, but
- 7:22Speaker 4: he's got to get a little bit more mature.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Yeah, he absolutely looks the part. He was six six
- 7:28Speaker 2: three seventeen with thirty four and a hit a half
- 7:30Speaker 2: inch arms. He looks the part. And he when he
- 7:35Speaker 2: did it the right way at Texas, and he did
- 7:37Speaker 2: play right tackle at Texas because they had Kelvin Banks
- 7:40Speaker 2: and left tackle. When he did it the right way,
- 7:43Speaker 2: he looked really good because he has plus athletic movement,
- 7:46Speaker 2: he has strength, he can set his house and pass protection.
- 7:50Speaker 2: But there were too many snaps with just a lack
- 7:55Speaker 2: of fundamental technique. And you know again that theoretically can
- 8:01Speaker 2: be taught, you just never know. I mean, you know,
- 8:06Speaker 2: he little things and I've learned from a lot of
- 8:09Speaker 2: people about offensive line play, so you know, because I
- 8:12Speaker 2: really tried to learn, you know, little little things that
- 8:15Speaker 2: are big things, like when you kick slide if you
- 8:17Speaker 2: don't get enough depth, so then you're vulnerable to the edge.
- 8:21Speaker 2: There were times where you saw a little stiffness in
- 8:24Speaker 2: his in his hips. There were times when he just
- 8:26Speaker 2: didn't gain enough ground which forced him to open his
- 8:28Speaker 2: hips early and that impacted his balance, you know, things
- 8:32Speaker 2: coaching things. So when you so, Adam, I'm playing off
- 8:35Speaker 2: what you're saying, because that's you know, raw is a
- 8:38Speaker 2: word that's used. We all know that that is often
- 8:40Speaker 2: used about players, and I like to go beyond it,
- 8:43Speaker 2: like what does that mean?
- 8:44Speaker 3: You know, depending on the position.
- 8:46Speaker 2: So I was just trying to give an example of
- 8:47Speaker 2: some of the things I saw on tape that speaks
- 8:50Speaker 2: to the rawness per se. You know, just the fact
- 8:53Speaker 2: that hey, it's all there in his body, but they're
- 8:56Speaker 2: just the details of doing it the right way. Snap
- 9:00Speaker 2: after snap after snap, we're just not there.
- 9:03Speaker 4: There's your raw on us, Jeff, as we said it
- 9:05Speaker 4: back to you that that's to me again, he's healthy,
- 9:09Speaker 4: as we've known it for several weeks. Why don't you
- 9:11Speaker 4: just play him? And you know, to me, it's like
- 9:13Speaker 4: a preseason game. It's just you're you're playing all backups
- 9:17Speaker 4: and put him in. Put Fred Johnson at left, right,
- 9:20Speaker 4: put Williams it right, Johnson it left, and just go
- 9:23Speaker 4: from there.
- 9:24Speaker 2: What really hurt Williams two in the draft, because a
- 9:26Speaker 2: lot of people, you know, saw the trades was the
- 9:30Speaker 2: National semifinal game against Ohio State. He really struggled in
- 9:33Speaker 2: one on one pass protection. He bent at the ways,
- 9:36Speaker 2: he struggled with his balance and body control at the
- 9:38Speaker 2: top of his past set. It just showed up on
- 9:41Speaker 2: way too many snaps. He just did not have a
- 9:43Speaker 2: good game, and he was the one who gave up
- 9:46Speaker 2: the Jack Sawyer sack. You know that that ended up
- 9:49Speaker 2: going for the touchdown.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Yeah. I would also if I remember correctly when we
- 9:53Speaker 1: were doing preseason stuff, I don't think he had great
- 9:56Speaker 1: preseason tape. You know, he obviously made the team because
- 9:58Speaker 1: he's a draft pick and he's a project. But so
- 10:01Speaker 1: I do remember us having this discussion after one of
- 10:03Speaker 1: the games where those things you just mentioned Greg bend athleticism,
- 10:07Speaker 1: you know, technique or issues, because we we had noted
- 10:10Speaker 1: in the preseason that the Eagles backup offensive line didn't
- 10:13Speaker 1: really have the same impact that it had in previous
- 10:17Speaker 1: years when they had more experience and better guys. So, Adam,
- 10:20Speaker 1: you make a great point. I wouldn't be surprised because
- 10:22Speaker 1: they didn't.
- 10:23Speaker 3: They didn't.
- 10:23Speaker 1: They haven't committed exactly to everything, but it wouldn't surprise
- 10:26Speaker 1: me if they did, maybe play Tyler's teen for a
- 10:29Speaker 1: half at right guard before getting them out of there,
- 10:31Speaker 1: and then maybe starting off with you.
- 10:35Speaker 3: Don't think so, I don't think so.
- 10:37Speaker 4: The way it's drilled in me by coaches like it's funny.
- 10:40Speaker 4: I used to think like you did. I would say, oh,
- 10:42Speaker 4: welly don't you just he needs works to play him?
- 10:44Speaker 3: Yeah? What's that?
- 10:46Speaker 1: They did that last year? They played a couple of guys.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Remember they played Goddard because they thought he needed a
- 10:50Speaker 1: little work.
- 10:51Speaker 3: I thought they played a little different.
- 10:53Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just you either play the entire offensive line
- 10:55Speaker 4: or you don't play anyone.
- 10:56Speaker 3: That's usually the way you do it. I know they
- 10:58Speaker 3: are exceptions to everything.
- 10:59Speaker 4: I understand that, but I've been told very strongly over
- 11:02Speaker 4: the earth when I suggested stuff like that, why would
- 11:04Speaker 4: you do that?
- 11:05Speaker 3: We don't. We don't either start them all or they
- 11:07Speaker 3: don't play.
- 11:07Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, yeah, well sometimes probably you probably sometimes
- 11:10Speaker 1: don't have enough to be able to even Yeah.
- 11:13Speaker 4: Well, Fred Johnson's a backup, but he's technically been a
- 11:15Speaker 4: starter for a while because he five Williams.
- 11:16Speaker 1: So then here's how let's say Cameron Williams is a
- 11:18Speaker 1: starter and player at some point he's in the game.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Like you said, your tackles are Johnson and Cameron Williams,
- 11:24Speaker 1: your left guard, right guard or Toath and Prior and
- 11:26Speaker 1: your center. I imagine Drew Kendall.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Oh, he's another guy. And I love what Greg said.
- 11:31Speaker 4: You thought he was similar to Drew Dolman. Craig, Greg, Yeah,
- 11:34Speaker 4: I like it a lot coming out. I really, did
- 11:36Speaker 4: you compare him to Dolman? I thought that's to comparison.
- 11:39Speaker 4: I mean, I'm gonna pull on my notes.
- 11:40Speaker 3: That's a good, pretty good player.
- 11:41Speaker 1: He just got paidman's a good Let's just let's just
- 11:44Speaker 1: say this. There's two Pro Bowl centers from the NFC.
- 11:47Speaker 1: One is Dolman and one is a guy from the
- 11:49Speaker 1: Eagles who probably shouldn't be a Pro Bowl center.
- 11:51Speaker 3: I probably should have been.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely, you know, no guy that I had to
- 11:55Speaker 2: watch a lot because he's not you know, the biggest
- 11:58Speaker 2: or the strongest or the most athletic that that you'll see.
- 12:03Speaker 3: But to me, there was just.
- 12:04Speaker 2: A consistent efficiency to his play that the more you
- 12:07Speaker 2: watch you were like, I like this guy, this guy,
- 12:10Speaker 2: this guy's a good football player.
- 12:12Speaker 3: You know.
- 12:12Speaker 2: So Kendall Ok, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Well this would be his first action if he winds
- 12:18Speaker 1: up being the center, and I imagine that he will.
- 12:20Speaker 1: I mean, they do have Jake Majors. They'd have to
- 12:22Speaker 1: elevate him, I think from the practice squad. Yeah, so
- 12:25Speaker 1: I don't know if that that'll happen.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Did I watched him too.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Yeah, and he's got NFL experience. Correct at him. He's
- 12:31Speaker 1: played before.
- 12:32Speaker 4: I thought, well, I know he's been on If I'm
- 12:35Speaker 4: not mistake, I think he's been on Seattle was like
- 12:37Speaker 4: Seattle fifty three. Maybe I don't know that he'd played
- 12:39Speaker 4: in a regular.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Season game, gotcha.
- 12:42Speaker 3: But he's another developmental backup interior lineman.
- 12:46Speaker 4: It's uh, look at the cool thing about this situation
- 12:49Speaker 4: is it's a great opportunity. You get younger players who
- 12:53Speaker 4: ordinarily would never get a chance to get their feet wet,
- 12:56Speaker 4: to get the experience of what it's like to be
- 12:57Speaker 4: in an NFL game. You know, watch the street coming
- 12:59Speaker 4: pissed off after what happened, you know, Dan Camble talked
- 13:01Speaker 4: about Dan Quinn talked about it. Uh, and it's just
- 13:04Speaker 4: good to get these guys some playing time.
- 13:06Speaker 3: It's not a bathing Yeah boy.
- 13:08Speaker 1: You really hope that everybody makes it through healthy because
- 13:10Speaker 1: I don't know what they would do if somebody, you know,
- 13:12Speaker 1: two guys go limping off the field, They're not going
- 13:13Speaker 1: to be quite uh you know, deep there in the
- 13:16Speaker 1: in the backup tank. So uh, hopefully whoever plays all,
- 13:20Speaker 1: they all stay healthy. And I think if Kendall plays center,
- 13:22Speaker 1: that'll be good because that is a natural position.
- 13:25Speaker 3: It is about majors. Was with Tampa Bay, not Seattle,
- 13:28Speaker 3: But yeah, Kendall.
- 13:29Speaker 4: Everyone I talked to in scouting who did his grade
- 13:31Speaker 4: said that, look, you can play m my guard, but
- 13:34Speaker 4: he's a center at the National FOOTB League level based
- 13:36Speaker 4: on a size because he's just smaller.
- 13:39Speaker 3: My last line. I get him my last thing.
- 13:42Speaker 2: The last thing I typed was Kendall, given his physical
- 13:44Speaker 2: and athletical limitations, may not be for every coach and
- 13:47Speaker 2: every scheme, but my sense watching his tape is that
- 13:50Speaker 2: I would not be surprised if he becomes a starter
- 13:52Speaker 2: with more development and coaching, and plays the O C
- 13:55Speaker 2: position at against sistant execution level for many years.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Well, it's gonna be the off it's a coordinator too, Greg,
- 14:01Speaker 1: that's really right, right, right, right, offensive center. All right,
- 14:06Speaker 1: let let's let's flip it to the other team a
- 14:08Speaker 1: little bit. The Eagles are going to be playing the
- 14:10Speaker 1: Commanders as they always do twice a year for the
- 14:12Speaker 1: next few years. I imagine they'll be a little healthier
- 14:14Speaker 1: next year. You never know, uh, they'll make changes. But
- 14:17Speaker 1: I want to ask you about what your observations have
- 14:19Speaker 1: been on Jacorey Crosskey Merrit. If you're looking at his
- 14:23Speaker 1: football card, if you're if you're yeah, it's just bill.
- 14:26Speaker 1: If you're just listening to a broadcast lately, and.
- 14:30Speaker 2: I've seen enough of him, you know, not not a ton.
- 14:33Speaker 2: I mean, he's an explosive back, you know, guys like that.
- 14:37Speaker 2: I always I'm just not certain. But again, and I'm
- 14:40Speaker 2: certainly not gonna pare him compare him to James Cook
- 14:42Speaker 2: because of what Cook has become. Right, He's one of
- 14:45Speaker 2: those guys again that falls into that category where you know,
- 14:49Speaker 2: I'm just not sure if he's more than a complimentary back,
- 14:52Speaker 2: and he may be you know again, I didn't think
- 14:54Speaker 2: James Cook would be that guy, and it's turned out,
- 14:56Speaker 2: you know so. But that's the way I kind of
- 14:59Speaker 2: see Crosskey Merit. I don't see him as you know,
- 15:01Speaker 2: as a foundation back, like as you go look in,
- 15:04Speaker 2: they're in their mind they're going to have a healthy
- 15:06Speaker 2: Jayden Daniels back next year. But then who knows what
- 15:09Speaker 2: their staff's going to look like. You know, we don't
- 15:12Speaker 2: know the answer. There's going to be a lot of changes,
- 15:13Speaker 2: I would imagine in the league when it comes to coaching.
- 15:16Speaker 2: We don't know if Cliff Kingsbury's back or if he
- 15:18Speaker 2: gets another head coaching opportunity.
- 15:22Speaker 3: But uh, you know, just.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Looking ahead, I'm just not certain that he's the kind
- 15:27Speaker 2: of guy you could say, you know what, eighteen carries
- 15:29Speaker 2: a game, We're.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Good to go. He's our guy. Yeah.
- 15:31Speaker 4: The knock on him, Jeff feel that way. The knock
- 15:34Speaker 4: on him from scouting standpoint. Everyone I've talked to about him,
- 15:38Speaker 4: because I wasn't familiar with him until he was drafted,
- 15:41Speaker 4: I'm like, okay, to Cory Krossky Merrit, you know, you
- 15:44Speaker 4: look at transfer this and he's seventh round, Like how
- 15:47Speaker 4: good can he be?
- 15:47Speaker 2: But never put up big numbers in college and did
- 15:50Speaker 2: not have a lot of carries.
- 15:51Speaker 4: Yeah, the knock on him is lack of power, lower
- 15:54Speaker 4: body strength. That's why they went with Chris rod Riggez
- 15:56Speaker 4: over him. Yes, I was always told because when Mariota
- 16:00Speaker 4: became a starter after Daniels got hurt, they wanted to
- 16:03Speaker 4: grind carries. They didn't want to put it on like
- 16:05Speaker 4: because Daniels could handle volume passes, they didn't think that
- 16:08Speaker 4: Mariota could. And Rodriguez is a power back and Merritt
- 16:13Speaker 4: you saw that, you saw that that touchdown last week
- 16:16Speaker 4: and that he's explosive that that, and we.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Know interesting because he's a short guy at like five
- 16:21Speaker 1: eleven is but he's listened to too eight. So you
- 16:23Speaker 1: feel like if he could put some pounds on, just
- 16:25Speaker 1: maybe five in the off season, maybe he could be
- 16:28Speaker 1: a little bit more of a of a sustainer then
- 16:30Speaker 1: because he's not he's not a small guy by running
- 16:33Speaker 1: back status to have two hundred.
- 16:34Speaker 2: But it's also Jeff as and you know this, I'm
- 16:37Speaker 2: not telling you anything you don't know. It's also stylistically
- 16:40Speaker 2: how a guy runs right. Some guys, you know, It's
- 16:44Speaker 2: like in any sport. You know, sometimes you'll look at
- 16:46Speaker 2: let's say basketball, and you see a guy six eight
- 16:48Speaker 2: two four and you think, man, he should be a
- 16:49Speaker 2: great rebounder, and he just that's not what he is.
- 16:52Speaker 3: You know.
- 16:52Speaker 2: You know, I don't know if cross Key Merrit's ever
- 16:55Speaker 2: going to be that kind of runner.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Now.
- 16:57Speaker 2: I don't want to sit here and say never, never, never,
- 17:00Speaker 2: but I don't see him that way.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Got it?
- 17:03Speaker 1: Hey, less thing on the Commanders before we take a
- 17:05Speaker 1: bigger picture. Look, they had a very good running game
- 17:07Speaker 1: all year long. It was highly ranked. It was top five,
- 17:10Speaker 1: I believe. Is that in your mind from watching the
- 17:13Speaker 1: offensive line upgrades that they made drafting Josh Connelly, bringing
- 17:18Speaker 1: in Larry m Tunsel, Sam Cosmy coming back from his
- 17:22Speaker 1: knee surgery. Is this a good offensive line for next
- 17:25Speaker 1: year with those three back or is it still not?
- 17:29Speaker 2: No? I think it's solid. That's a pretty good group
- 17:32Speaker 2: because they still have the center too, the down Yeah,
- 17:35Speaker 2: solid player. I think it's a solid old line. You know,
- 17:39Speaker 2: I think they should be able to run the ball. Now, again,
- 17:42Speaker 2: they were in the top five. You can't sit here
- 17:44Speaker 2: and say they'll be in the top five next year.
- 17:45Speaker 3: You never know.
- 17:48Speaker 2: But of course Daniel's a land to the run game.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Although I think they do have to start with him,
- 17:52Speaker 2: you know, calming that down a bit. And I think
- 17:54Speaker 2: that'll be an off season of conversation and talk and
- 17:58Speaker 2: working through all that because I thought this year when
- 18:00Speaker 2: he did play, I thought he ran too much. That's
- 18:04Speaker 2: just my opinion. They may disagree. I just you know,
- 18:07Speaker 2: he's not a big guy. I mean, he's tall, but
- 18:09Speaker 2: he's not a big body.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Right.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Uh.
- 18:12Speaker 1: And you thought Tunsall played more like maybe his better
- 18:15Speaker 1: level than what he was with his last year with
- 18:17Speaker 1: the Texans, Then.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Yeah, he didn't play great last year with the Texans,
- 18:20Speaker 2: but I thought he was good this year.
- 18:21Speaker 1: All right? And why hasn't Ben Sina. That's a guy
- 18:24Speaker 1: that Adam and I thought, great question. The Senior Bowl would.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Be kind of a I have answers to that one
- 18:29Speaker 3: for you.
- 18:30Speaker 4: Not strong to the point of attack. He was behind
- 18:33Speaker 4: mentally last year understanding the offense. Here's the here's the
- 18:36Speaker 4: word around the league. He was severely overdrafted. I talked
- 18:40Speaker 4: to clubs because I loved him the Senior Bowl. I
- 18:41Speaker 4: was like, who is this kid?
- 18:42Speaker 2: But he's not explosive you know he's one of those
- 18:45Speaker 2: I didn't mean to interrupt.
- 18:46Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 18:47Speaker 2: He's there's no special trade here. He's not explosive, as
- 18:50Speaker 2: I said, he's not big enough, and he's not a
- 18:53Speaker 2: great blocker. You know, he's okay in all those things
- 18:57Speaker 2: should have gone.
- 18:58Speaker 4: Right, man, But I was exciting, Like Cliff, Kingsbury's very creative.
- 19:03Speaker 4: We saw what happened last year. Yeah, it hasn't happened
- 19:05Speaker 4: at all. And Ertz gets hurt. And I know they've
- 19:09Speaker 4: had a problem at quarterback. We all understand that with
- 19:12Speaker 4: the injuries. But it's a problem, man. And and by
- 19:16Speaker 4: the way, for this game, Tuntell's not playing with the
- 19:18Speaker 4: oblique strain. It'd be Josh Johnson cosme one on IR
- 19:24Speaker 4: he had a concussion issue. So Brandon Coleman hurt his knee.
- 19:27Speaker 4: Who's been filling it at left tackle. I'm amazed, Jeff
- 19:30Speaker 4: you actually you brought up two weeks ago on the show.
- 19:33Speaker 4: I can't believe how good the running game has been.
- 19:35Speaker 4: It's with all they you would think with all the
- 19:38Speaker 4: problems they've been having at quarterback. But that's a tribute
- 19:40Speaker 4: to the coaching And yeah, Kingsbury and Bobby Johnson, a
- 19:44Speaker 4: line coach credit.
- 19:45Speaker 3: I mean, there's somehow they're getting it done, sure.
- 19:47Speaker 1: And some coaches are good for that.
- 19:49Speaker 3: You know.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Sometimes in the past we've talked about the Rams and
- 19:52Speaker 1: the forty nine Ers not having very good offensive lines
- 19:55Speaker 1: but being able to still have good running games because
- 19:57Speaker 1: of how they scheme their run. So I'm sure a
- 20:00Speaker 1: part of that, Greg, you watch their tape more than us,
- 20:03Speaker 1: is Cliff Kingsbury's scheming of the run game. But but
- 20:06Speaker 1: I do feel like there is talent on this Commanders
- 20:09Speaker 1: offensive line went healthy and yeah, the right guys in
- 20:11Speaker 1: their spots.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Yeah, but they've run the ball well.
- 20:15Speaker 2: And you know, Rodriguez is an interesting guy because he
- 20:18Speaker 2: is a sustaining runner.
- 20:19Speaker 3: He gets hard yards.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Right right, All right, let's take a bigger picture look
- 20:24Speaker 1: of the Eagles offense and defense here. They're gonna be
- 20:27Speaker 1: going into the playoffs Greg, with an offense that we
- 20:31Speaker 1: have talked about all year long. And I guess what
- 20:34Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you was if you have any
- 20:37Speaker 1: better feel now of what the offense is trying to be?
- 20:42Speaker 1: Like we know we talk all the time. They want
- 20:44Speaker 1: to be able to run the ball. They struggle to
- 20:46Speaker 1: run the ball. It seems as if they've tried to
- 20:49Speaker 1: take different paths to get to that.
- 20:51Speaker 3: Yeah, that place.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Is that your takeaway when you watch them?
- 20:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, look, I think.
- 21:01Speaker 2: My sense is, and I'm sure a lot of people
- 21:04Speaker 2: are watching Hard Knocks, my sense is that they believe
- 21:09Speaker 2: in the process, and they want and they believe that
- 21:13Speaker 2: they can get that process back to where it was
- 21:16Speaker 2: a year ago, and that that's what they want it
- 21:18Speaker 2: to be. That's my sense. I don't think they're looking
- 21:21Speaker 2: to change what they are on offense. I agree now
- 21:27Speaker 2: now having said that, we don't know all the reasons
- 21:31Speaker 2: they feel that way. You know, we're not in you know,
- 21:33Speaker 2: we're getting some sense of meetings obviously from Hard Knocks,
- 21:36Speaker 2: but you're certainly not going to get the stuff that
- 21:39Speaker 2: they don't want to let out, you know. So, so
- 21:44Speaker 2: I really don't think you're going to see Jeff a
- 21:47Speaker 2: dramatic change in the way they play, because the thing
- 21:50Speaker 2: that has allowed them to play this way, even though
- 21:53Speaker 2: they've not run the ball anywhere near to the way
- 21:55Speaker 2: they did a year ago, is they are now a
- 21:58Speaker 2: top two or three defense in the lead, and over
- 22:01Speaker 2: the last eight games they've allowed the fewest points in
- 22:03Speaker 2: the league, and this defense is playing really well. Carter's
- 22:07Speaker 2: now back, Davis has had a phenomenal year. We've talked
- 22:10Speaker 2: about the advancement of Jelex Hunt. They've played really really well.
- 22:16Speaker 2: So you know, when you can play great defense and
- 22:20Speaker 2: every game, you know they can keep it.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Down, so to speak. You know, it's I'm not saying
- 22:27Speaker 3: they don't want big offense.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Of course they do, but I don't think they see
- 22:31Speaker 2: any reason for a sea change in their offensive approach.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Yeah, So what Greg is alluding to for those listening
- 22:37Speaker 1: who have may not have seen hard knocks, is there
- 22:39Speaker 1: have been more than one occasion where they'll show Nick
- 22:42Speaker 1: surianis talking to either a staff member or a player,
- 22:45Speaker 1: and he's a lot like coaches that we've all met.
- 22:47Speaker 1: He's a big double down on your process, even not
- 22:51Speaker 1: getting the same results. And he constantly talks about when
- 22:54Speaker 1: we don't turn the ball over and when we play
- 22:58Speaker 1: the way we do, which we've all When I say
- 23:01Speaker 1: we now the public has said that's very conservative and
- 23:04Speaker 1: sometimes to a very extreme degree. Buffalo might be an example.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Nick Siiani Adam basically says this is how we've won
- 23:12Speaker 1: the seventy five to eighty percent of our games. So Adam,
- 23:15Speaker 1: when I think about their off season process, not that
- 23:17Speaker 1: we're even there yet, but I'm just more prone to
- 23:20Speaker 1: believe that their philosophy will be the things we've done
- 23:25Speaker 1: well in the past, running the ball, having good offensive lines.
- 23:27Speaker 1: We just need to make sure that set going into
- 23:30Speaker 1: next year. And it may be draft more offensive lineman,
- 23:33Speaker 1: you know, like be prepared. It's not to me make
- 23:37Speaker 1: radical changes in our passing offense or start becoming a
- 23:40Speaker 1: sixty percent passing team. But I think people think that
- 23:43Speaker 1: this is the lesson the egos have learned this year.
- 23:45Speaker 1: But I disagree with that sentiment. I think Greg and
- 23:49Speaker 1: what you're seeing from Nick Seriani is going to reign supremier.
- 23:51Speaker 4: They're gonna be long Sikwon Barkley's a running back. They're
- 23:54Speaker 4: going to be a run running team in philosophy. Because
- 23:57Speaker 4: you don't and don't forget they paid him after signing
- 24:01Speaker 4: him last year, they decided to give him a raise,
- 24:04Speaker 4: which like never happens. So yeah, one thing, I'll give
- 24:08Speaker 4: you a kind of a cool nugget. So someone who
- 24:10Speaker 4: was on the staff with Frank Reich and Nick with
- 24:14Speaker 4: the Colts told me that and This goes to what
- 24:17Speaker 4: Greg was talking about doubling down. You were talking about
- 24:19Speaker 4: as well. You actually brought it up and you both
- 24:20Speaker 4: are saying it. So there was a time, I don't
- 24:23Speaker 4: know what the record was the Colts. They got off
- 24:24Speaker 4: to the terrible start on the rich, but they turn
- 24:27Speaker 4: it around because Frank would not change. He's like, this
- 24:30Speaker 4: is what we're doing, this is how we're going to
- 24:31Speaker 4: do it. Don't listen to the outside noise. This is
- 24:33Speaker 4: what we're gonna do it. And they turned their season around.
- 24:36Speaker 4: And Nick, because Frank's a mentor, I'm sure that somewhere
- 24:38Speaker 4: in his mind maybe he's talking to franklins Sid who knows,
- 24:41Speaker 4: you know, because we know they're very close. But that's
- 24:43Speaker 4: what coach talking right. My point is this, you have
- 24:50Speaker 4: a way you do things. If you're going to make
- 24:51Speaker 4: it to the super Bowl. You can't change who you
- 24:53Speaker 4: are now. You could change you could make some small
- 24:56Speaker 4: changes in the off season. Obviously schematically they need to
- 24:58Speaker 4: do some other things, but it's another story. But their
- 25:01Speaker 4: foundation is the running game. There's there's no question. Now
- 25:04Speaker 4: we would like Greg has talked about ad nauseam. They
- 25:07Speaker 4: need to get Hurts back to being a meaningful part
- 25:09Speaker 4: of the running game, and it has off and on
- 25:11Speaker 4: a little bit lately. But man, he looks healthy. Another
- 25:16Speaker 4: offensive line problems because they're just beat up. Maybe this
- 25:18Speaker 4: week arrest is going to help them, but they're not changing.
- 25:20Speaker 4: They're just not unless they got up into a throwing situation,
- 25:25Speaker 4: like if they're playing the Rams next week and it's
- 25:29Speaker 4: just one of those games for Stafford Field and he's
- 25:31Speaker 4: actually having success. We know coaches sometimes they get caught
- 25:34Speaker 4: up in it. That's the only way I see that happen.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Yeah, and then the bottom line, Jeff, is what's their record.
- 25:40Speaker 1: That's my point Yep, They've won eleven games.
- 25:43Speaker 2: You know, I don't mean to simplify it to that degree,
- 25:46Speaker 2: but the bottom line is they win football games.
- 25:48Speaker 3: They have a belief.
- 25:49Speaker 2: I mean, you know, again, I not not to keep
- 25:53Speaker 2: mentioning hard knocks, but I think people are aware of
- 25:55Speaker 2: this in Philadelphia for sure. Is they have a very
- 25:58Speaker 2: strong belief in not turning the ball over. Okay, now
- 26:02Speaker 2: every coach will speak like that, but there are coaches
- 26:06Speaker 2: who if you're if you believe in a very expensive
- 26:09Speaker 2: pass game and you have that kind of quarterback, like
- 26:11Speaker 2: I would bet that Zach Taylor when he talks with
- 26:14Speaker 2: Joe Burrow does not spend a lot of time telling
- 26:16Speaker 2: him don't turn the ball over, you know, whereas the Eagles.
- 26:20Speaker 2: And again, I don't know that, you know, but I
- 26:22Speaker 2: would bet that that's the case. I know Mike Martz,
- 26:24Speaker 2: who I at one point knew really really well, you know,
- 26:27Speaker 2: and he really educated me a lot on the passing
- 26:31Speaker 2: game in the NFL. You know, he was always okay
- 26:34Speaker 2: if the quarterback threw a pick, if it was within
- 26:37Speaker 2: sort of this context of their past game, and you know,
- 26:40Speaker 2: because he was aggressive, and you know, sometimes that happens, right.
- 26:44Speaker 2: The Eagles don't think like that, right, So you know,
- 26:47Speaker 2: that is the main thing, you know. And I'm sure
- 26:49Speaker 2: a lot of people believe that Jalen Hurts could be
- 26:52Speaker 2: much more than he is as a passer, which if
- 26:55Speaker 2: we're being very fair, you could say that that's true.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Maybe will believe he could be much much more as
- 27:01Speaker 2: a passer if he was allowed to be much more
- 27:04Speaker 2: expansive than a pass game. But that's not what they've done.
- 27:08Speaker 2: And they won a super Bowl last year, they were
- 27:11Speaker 2: in one to you know, two years prior to that.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Who knows what this season is I mean, Adam makes
- 27:16Speaker 2: a great point. Let's say in the first round of
- 27:18Speaker 2: the playoffs they lose, they play Stafford and they lose
- 27:21Speaker 2: twenty seven seventeen and the pass game just falls flat.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Maybe then they'll reassess. But right now, this is who
- 27:30Speaker 2: they are and this is what they believe in philosophically.
- 27:34Speaker 1: And I still think, because I've thought about this a lot,
- 27:36Speaker 1: that scenario that you just mentioned, you know what if
- 27:39Speaker 1: they fall short very early and don't score it, And
- 27:43Speaker 1: I still think that that's probably also going to because
- 27:45Speaker 1: they don't have the run game they want, and they
- 27:47Speaker 1: will go back to if we had more of a
- 27:50Speaker 1: running game, we could have done right. We would have
- 27:52Speaker 1: had longer possessions, they wouldn't score twenty seven points, our
- 27:55Speaker 1: defense would be on the field for less time and
- 27:57Speaker 1: things like that. Right, so then we really they need
- 28:00Speaker 1: to open it up. But who knows that that's an
- 28:02Speaker 1: off season conversation. I am kind of fascinated by it
- 28:05Speaker 1: because as much as that is their core philosophy, I
- 28:09Speaker 1: don't know that Nick Sirianni came to Philadelphia with that.
- 28:12Speaker 1: I think he had justed that philosophy well to the
- 28:14Speaker 1: personnel that he had.
- 28:16Speaker 4: I would add this the twenty three season, to me,
- 28:19Speaker 4: will never truly know the answers to this. We can
- 28:21Speaker 4: only go by where the results are in Greg talks,
- 28:23Speaker 4: you know, Greg's look at the tape.
- 28:24Speaker 3: We talk to other people.
- 28:26Speaker 4: But when Hurts turned the ball over a lot, way
- 28:28Speaker 4: too much in the twenty three season, isn't just interesting
- 28:31Speaker 4: how the passing game has been secondary. It's been about
- 28:34Speaker 4: the run game one way or the other. They signed Barclay,
- 28:36Speaker 4: which is a surprises based on their history for they
- 28:40Speaker 4: not paying running backs other than maybe Westbrook. But I
- 28:43Speaker 4: mean that that to me was because remember we're like
- 28:46Speaker 4: when they sign him, We're like we were doing the
- 28:47Speaker 4: show with Greg, the off season show last year in
- 28:49Speaker 4: twenty four, like, Wow, they actually want to be a
- 28:51Speaker 4: running team. I can't believe we're saying this. We'll see
- 28:53Speaker 4: if they actually do it. And they did and they
- 28:55Speaker 4: haven't tried to stop absolutely.
- 28:58Speaker 1: All right, good stuff. Let's let's flipping over to defense.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Greg.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I want to ask you just in general about you know,
- 29:04Speaker 1: from tape observations all year long. Is there anyone who's
- 29:08Speaker 1: tape just just now you've watched a year just jumped
- 29:11Speaker 1: out of you like, when you think of Eagles defensive tape,
- 29:13Speaker 1: is there a name that just jumps out to you?
- 29:16Speaker 2: The Kobe Dean this year, And I know that he's now,
- 29:19Speaker 2: you know, but he'll be he'll be good to go
- 29:21Speaker 2: for the playoffs.
- 29:22Speaker 3: I'm sure.
- 29:24Speaker 2: The Kobe teen really jumped out to me better than
- 29:27Speaker 2: I thought he would be coming out of college.
- 29:28Speaker 3: I'll be the first to admit it. I didn't.
- 29:30Speaker 2: I thought he was a great blitzer at Georgia. I
- 29:32Speaker 2: had a lot of questions about what he could be
- 29:34Speaker 2: as a stacked backer in the NFL. And I thought
- 29:37Speaker 2: once he came back and started to play, I was
- 29:41Speaker 2: thought he played great football. And he jumped out to
- 29:44Speaker 2: me every single week, and not just the special you know,
- 29:47Speaker 2: everybody can see the special plays. But I just think
- 29:50Speaker 2: he's a really, really good player. So he'd be the
- 29:53Speaker 2: number one guy. The number two guy would be Jordan Davis.
- 29:56Speaker 3: I knew it.
- 29:57Speaker 2: I mean, Jordan Davis has had a terrific season, and
- 30:01Speaker 2: there's no getting around it. I mean, you know, look,
- 30:03Speaker 2: I hope people understand that what I do. I'm just
- 30:06Speaker 2: watching the tape, you know.
- 30:07Speaker 3: I know a lot of.
- 30:07Speaker 2: People always think there's a personal thing when you talk
- 30:11Speaker 2: about a player, you know, especially if a player you
- 30:14Speaker 2: don't particularly like his tape, they always think it's personal.
- 30:16Speaker 2: And there's no question you guys would agree, we all
- 30:18Speaker 2: would agree that the team would agree that he has
- 30:21Speaker 2: not really been what they wanted for the first three
- 30:23Speaker 2: years in the league. Yeah, moments last year where you thought,
- 30:26Speaker 2: oh maybe, But this year I thought he played pretty
- 30:30Speaker 2: much every week, really good football.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Yeah. And by the way, I don't know if anybody
- 30:35Speaker 1: caught more backlash from fans than me and Adam on
- 30:38Speaker 1: Jordan Davis for the first three years when they get
- 30:41Speaker 1: not personal, but when you train up to thirteen to
- 30:43Speaker 1: get ye, I mean, you expect. Even Hallie Roseman said
- 30:46Speaker 1: to himself, we expect him to be a three down lineman,
- 30:49Speaker 1: to be a pass rusher that goes along with run stuffing.
- 30:51Speaker 1: And he just wasn't that he was coming off the field.
- 30:54Speaker 3: Yeah. Guy.
- 30:56Speaker 2: The other guy who started to stand out is the
- 30:57Speaker 2: season progressed was Jaylex Hunt. I just saw sort of
- 31:01Speaker 2: you know, I wouldn't say massive, but it was incremental.
- 31:04Speaker 2: But I started to see that this guy is starting
- 31:07Speaker 2: to understand how to play. Had a playoff blocks, had
- 31:10Speaker 2: a playoff contact don't forget that's not something he did
- 31:13Speaker 2: really prior to becoming an Eagle. You know, the whole
- 31:16Speaker 2: concept of playing off blocks, there's technique involved, There's hand placement.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Where do you place your hands? When do you place
- 31:22Speaker 2: your hands? How do you do that? You know, he's
- 31:26Speaker 2: I just saw incremental improvement and I'm fascinated to see
- 31:29Speaker 2: what another offseason can bring with him because I think
- 31:31Speaker 2: he can develop. I'm not going to sit here and
- 31:33Speaker 2: say he's going to be you know, Brian Burns, but
- 31:35Speaker 2: I think he can develop into a quality NFL pass rusher.
- 31:38Speaker 4: Jeff he's a year ahead of schedule, like what he's
- 31:40Speaker 4: doing now. I think the Eagles, if they were being
- 31:42Speaker 4: honest so they would hope he'd be in year three.
- 31:44Speaker 4: He's doing in year two. This is a guy, this
- 31:47Speaker 4: is only his fourth years in edge rusher. It's quite
- 31:49Speaker 4: let's be honest. He's having a learn on the job
- 31:51Speaker 4: because he went to Houston Christian the highest level. Yeah,
- 31:54Speaker 4: I mean, it's this is just a remarkable story. And
- 31:58Speaker 4: another I mean Greg and I know of some people,
- 32:02Speaker 4: you know, we talked to coaches and he was sort
- 32:04Speaker 4: of phenomenon. I remember what I called Greg because Greg,
- 32:07Speaker 4: you said he wasn't into your system for.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Because I looked up the wrong school which wasn't in
- 32:11Speaker 2: and then I found him. Oh okay, okay, oh okay,
- 32:14Speaker 2: I watched this college tape right.
- 32:16Speaker 4: No, I know you did, because because I called you
- 32:19Speaker 4: two weeks from the draft. I said, we need to
- 32:20Speaker 4: get on this guy because I saw wanted to Senior Bowl,
- 32:22Speaker 4: but I didn't know a lot about him. I think
- 32:24Speaker 4: was a Senior Bowl. But and then I kept hearing
- 32:27Speaker 4: from coaches I've spoken with speaking with before the draft,
- 32:29Speaker 4: They're like.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Oh, this kid was the greatest kid. We talked and
- 32:32Speaker 3: we sat down.
- 32:33Speaker 4: Oh my god, we want him, We want them, Like wow, okay,
- 32:35Speaker 4: since we're talking Eagles here, they need ass rushers. Who knows,
- 32:39Speaker 4: we didn't know they liked them. You would think everyone
- 32:42Speaker 4: would because it's about the draft is about projection. It's
- 32:44Speaker 4: never any You never know what the guy's going to be, Jeff,
- 32:48Speaker 4: but it's uh, I like the way Greg set that up.
- 32:52Speaker 4: It's going to be so interesting what he becomes, not
- 32:55Speaker 4: just next year though, over the next few years. Then
- 32:57Speaker 4: then of course you got a cut after next season. Contract.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, a couple of guys are gonna be up
- 33:04Speaker 1: on that QUINNYA. Mitchell. It's gonna be It's gonna be
- 33:07Speaker 1: quite a thing. No one's trying to figure out Jordan Davis.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Of course, Hey, let's get back. Let me get back
- 33:11Speaker 1: to Jordan Davis with you, Greg when you watch his tape,
- 33:14Speaker 1: because I think when I envisioned him someday becoming what
- 33:19Speaker 1: he was supposed to be, it was that he was
- 33:21Speaker 1: a massive human being who I thought was going to
- 33:23Speaker 1: figure it out and just move people in a way
- 33:25Speaker 1: that massive human beings are. But as he's gotten better,
- 33:29Speaker 1: I don't It's not that his ability to move people
- 33:32Speaker 1: on brute strength. I think he looks like a really
- 33:34Speaker 1: like what a pro Bowl caliber three technique looks like.
- 33:37Speaker 1: He's using his hands, right, he's got arm moves.
- 33:40Speaker 3: He's he's moving.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Like a like a like we saw Fletcher Cox do
- 33:43Speaker 1: at times, which is beating people in a variety of ways,
- 33:47Speaker 1: not just picking them up and putting them aside. Right,
- 33:50Speaker 1: I mean, is that what you're seeing from him? To development?
- 33:52Speaker 2: The question I think is can he be a three
- 33:55Speaker 2: technique down the road. He's not now, correct, So of
- 33:58Speaker 2: course you know they have so maybe it doesn't matter.
- 34:01Speaker 2: But he's basically a one technique. You know, he's a
- 34:04Speaker 2: nose basically.
- 34:05Speaker 3: But you're right.
- 34:08Speaker 2: His game and I talked about this when he came out,
- 34:11Speaker 2: and I got a lot of flak for it from people,
- 34:13Speaker 2: but I think you just now didn't because that's the
- 34:16Speaker 2: way he plays. He's not really a true power player. Now,
- 34:20Speaker 2: every once in a while, I'll have a snap like that,
- 34:22Speaker 2: but you could probably say that about any one technique
- 34:24Speaker 2: in the league.
- 34:24Speaker 3: That every once in a while they're gonna have a
- 34:26Speaker 3: you know, one of those plays. Yep.
- 34:27Speaker 2: But he's developing a better sense of how to use
- 34:31Speaker 2: his hands. I've had a playoff contact this year. He
- 34:34Speaker 2: showed more initial quickness off the ball than he's shown
- 34:37Speaker 2: in previous years. Of course, his weight loss has been
- 34:40Speaker 2: talked about a lot. You know, I don't know if
- 34:41Speaker 2: he can lose any more weight or if this is it.
- 34:44Speaker 2: But he's played really good ball. But you're right, he's
- 34:47Speaker 2: not necessarily just a guy that gets into you know,
- 34:50Speaker 2: guards and centers and just drives them back, Right, that's
- 34:53Speaker 2: not really his game. Can he do it once in
- 34:55Speaker 2: a while, sure, but that's not the foundation of his game.
- 34:58Speaker 3: Right.
- 34:59Speaker 1: He's actually showing some explosion now yeah, yeah, and like
- 35:02Speaker 1: you know, quick moves and yeah, short area burst and
- 35:06Speaker 1: off the line, getting off the get off burst and
- 35:08Speaker 1: all of that stuff. So yeah, now when he when
- 35:11Speaker 1: when Jalen Carter has been out, I mean he has
- 35:13Speaker 1: played three techniques in their four man front at times correct.
- 35:17Speaker 3: Once in a while, but not very often.
- 35:18Speaker 1: He still really lines up mostly over even in even
- 35:20Speaker 1: the fore man front.
- 35:21Speaker 2: He'll yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, he's mostly Yeah.
- 35:24Speaker 1: That's where he's comfortable. Yeah.
- 35:26Speaker 4: The key here is, and we talked about the off season,
- 35:30Speaker 4: is that you're gonna know what Vic Fanger thinks by
- 35:32Speaker 4: how many snaps he plays. If he's not a fifty percent,
- 35:35Speaker 4: they just cluarded, don't trust him. Well, he's well over that.
- 35:38Speaker 4: And Greg, do you remember last year you said one
- 35:42Speaker 4: staff of Nickel was that correct the entire season? And
- 35:47Speaker 4: long yeah, long yeah, pass the situations. Yeah, he's shown
- 35:51Speaker 4: a lot, he's shown bursts as a pass rusher. I
- 35:52Speaker 4: know that's not his game, but he's getting better at it.
- 35:55Speaker 4: And behind the scenes, I know he told people that,
- 35:58Speaker 4: you know, he would talk a lot about hey this
- 35:59Speaker 4: is gonna be here, I'm doing this, I'm doing that.
- 36:01Speaker 3: But it wouldn't happen.
- 36:03Speaker 4: But give the kid credit for stick toness is weight,
- 36:06Speaker 4: waight under control technique. And look, you and I talked
- 36:10Speaker 4: about said Clint Hurt can't reach this kid, forget it
- 36:13Speaker 4: from the talon. Clint Hurt's one of the top de
- 36:16Speaker 4: line coaches in the league. And uh, we talked about
- 36:20Speaker 4: Jacks Hunt taking the next step next to what's it
- 36:21Speaker 4: gonna look like it? Davis has taken such a big
- 36:25Speaker 4: jump that you just wonder what he could be now.
- 36:29Speaker 3: I mean, you're dealing with Hunt.
- 36:31Speaker 2: You know here is measureable six three and three quarters
- 36:33Speaker 2: two fifty two ran a. You know a four six
- 36:37Speaker 2: four arm length is thirty four and three eighths.
- 36:39Speaker 3: Think that we'll tackle.
- 36:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the last thing I typed with with
- 36:47Speaker 2: Hunt when I did him and I did a number
- 36:48Speaker 2: of games. You know, once you know I found him
- 36:50Speaker 2: in my system, I said. The bottom line with Hunt
- 36:53Speaker 2: is that he's an elite athlete without standing size and length,
- 36:56Speaker 2: and he possesses every trade you look for in an
- 36:58Speaker 2: age rusher and will take some time for him to
- 37:01Speaker 2: develop with more tools in his toolbox, he has all
- 37:03Speaker 2: you want in a higher level edgresher. In the NFL.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Hunt's athletic traits might profile as strong as any edge
- 37:10Speaker 2: defender in this draft class, but he is a classic
- 37:12Speaker 2: projection due to his level of competition and the things
- 37:15Speaker 2: you don't see enough of on film. And I think
- 37:18Speaker 2: it's kind of playing out that way.
- 37:20Speaker 1: Yep, absolutely has all right, last thing, we'll close it out.
- 37:23Speaker 1: This Eagles secondary, it's amazing. We spent the first what
- 37:26Speaker 1: ten to twelve weeks of the season wondering if Dori
- 37:29Speaker 1: Jackson was going to survive. I mean they and by
- 37:31Speaker 1: the way, that wasn't our speculation. They went out and
- 37:33Speaker 1: got to Corey and Bennett, They went out and tried
- 37:35Speaker 1: to take a flyer on Jayir Alexander. People thought he
- 37:38Speaker 1: was actually still going to come back. I mean, it's
- 37:41Speaker 1: not coming back, at least not for the Eagles. And
- 37:44Speaker 1: it turns out they have what they needed the whole
- 37:47Speaker 1: time because the Dori Jackson has played just well enough
- 37:50Speaker 1: to keep the job. And really Greg Quinya, Mitchell and
- 37:53Speaker 1: Cooper de gen have been probably as better than last year,
- 37:57Speaker 1: would you agree? They have grown in their roles.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Yeah, And and they've they've pretty much made Mitchell the
- 38:02Speaker 2: boundary corner, which was not always the case as a rookie,
- 38:05Speaker 2: he's pretty much the boundary corner now and they play
- 38:07Speaker 2: to his strengths. So a lot of times in their
- 38:10Speaker 2: in their two high safety structures, which obviously is a
- 38:12Speaker 2: foundation of of Vic van Joe, they will take the
- 38:15Speaker 2: boundary safety blank and ship. He's always the boundary safety
- 38:18Speaker 2: in their two high safety structures, and he just is
- 38:20Speaker 2: a poacher. He works inside and they let Mitchell essentially
- 38:24Speaker 2: play cover zero. You know, they've even done that, believe
- 38:26Speaker 2: it or now with Jackson a couple of times. So
- 38:28Speaker 2: you know, they're comfortable with that because they want to
- 38:31Speaker 2: take away the middle of the field and you know,
- 38:33Speaker 2: and and that's what they do, and their defense is
- 38:36Speaker 2: it's very you know, one thing I learned from someone
- 38:40Speaker 2: who was who was very close with Vic Fanjo's defense
- 38:43Speaker 2: in Chicago, you know, because because Vick is constantly changing,
- 38:47Speaker 2: but the core principles are similar, is that safeties and
- 38:51Speaker 2: linebackers are critical in a Vic Fanjoe defense. And that's
- 38:55Speaker 2: one reason why Zach Bonn got you know, just reupt
- 38:58Speaker 2: I mean, Zach boughn Is is such a critical piece
- 39:02Speaker 2: and he's so good in coverage, and that's one reason
- 39:05Speaker 2: why Blankenship is so critical to their defense.
- 39:07Speaker 3: Even though he's not a numbers player.
- 39:10Speaker 2: You know, you could look like like PFF doesn't understand
- 39:12Speaker 2: what he's asked to do. So they don't grade him
- 39:15Speaker 2: highly because he doesn't make a ton of tackles. He
- 39:17Speaker 2: doesn't you know, get a ton of interceptions. But he's
- 39:20Speaker 2: just absolutely a critical piece to everything they do.
- 39:25Speaker 1: It's been a long long time since the Eagle has
- 39:27Speaker 1: had a player like this, I tell you. And it's
- 39:30Speaker 1: not for lack of effort. They made a lot of
- 39:32Speaker 1: bad draft picks. They were hoping to find that guy,
- 39:34Speaker 1: but it finally paid off for them last year, getting
- 39:37Speaker 1: Quinny on first round coober Egen in the second round.
- 39:40Speaker 4: Jeff, think about this. We started this platform eight years ago.
- 39:44Speaker 4: We used to go playing and be embarrassed at their
- 39:46Speaker 4: linebacker group.
- 39:47Speaker 3: Right.
- 39:47Speaker 4: They also had many years other than Slay, they weren't
- 39:50Speaker 4: good enough a corner and Slay oviously was a really
- 39:52Speaker 4: good That was a good acquisition, but overall the back
- 39:55Speaker 4: end of their defense, you just would scratch your head
- 39:57Speaker 4: or they ever going to get it right. And now
- 40:00Speaker 4: they've between Degene Coop Blanket ship is Greg's talked about
- 40:06Speaker 4: everything that he brings. This linebacker group is the best
- 40:10Speaker 4: we've seen in twenty years here. I mean, it's just
- 40:12Speaker 4: it's just they're so deep and Trot Junior could play
- 40:15Speaker 4: by the way you can see a lot of him Sunday.
- 40:18Speaker 3: It's kind of nice. It's kind of not used to this.
- 40:20Speaker 3: Don't know how to act and how to react.
- 40:22Speaker 2: There's no Keep in mind, the Eagles played the third
- 40:23Speaker 2: highest percentage of Nickel in the NFL, So I mean,
- 40:26Speaker 2: obviously they do not want to take the gene off
- 40:28Speaker 2: the field. Well, he doesn't come off the field, but
- 40:30Speaker 2: I mean the right obviously plays on the outside in
- 40:33Speaker 2: their base, so he doesn't come off the field anyway.
- 40:35Speaker 2: But they played seventy five percent of their defensive snaps
- 40:38Speaker 2: and Nickel.
- 40:39Speaker 4: And Greg they play more man that Vis played Nears. Right, Yeah,
- 40:42Speaker 4: they do play on a man. Now, there's I would say,
- 40:45Speaker 4: and I'm sure if it was well, I'm sure if
- 40:48Speaker 4: it was here because he knows it way more than
- 40:49Speaker 4: I do. But I think there's a lot of match
- 40:55Speaker 4: principles that probably look like pure man too, even to
- 40:59Speaker 4: me because I don't know all their tweaks that are
- 41:02Speaker 4: automatically said it's man. But it wouldn't surprise me if
- 41:05Speaker 4: there are sort of zone match elements in the way
- 41:07Speaker 4: it's taught. But you know again, I don't you know,
- 41:11Speaker 4: I to learn more about that this offseason. But but you.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Know, he's they do play more man, I think than
- 41:19Speaker 2: people associate with Dick van Jail.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Sure.

- 44:58Speaker 2: And that's right well with Josh, I think with Josh
- 45:02Speaker 2: Jackson a quarterback, it's a pretty good bet that Washington
- 45:05Speaker 2: puts up fifty, don't you think.
- 45:07Speaker 3: Somewhere on that what is it? Is it fifty divided
- 45:10Speaker 3: by five? So we have to make a pick?

- 46:15Speaker 1: I got no faith and no offense to I mean,
- 46:18Speaker 1: this is just back ups, right, but this Eagles offensive
- 46:20Speaker 1: line is gonna have some guys who are like again,
- 46:22Speaker 1: Cam Williams never played before, so Drew Kendall, We've never
- 46:26Speaker 1: even seen him play before. So I'm just it's gonna
