- 0:01The Titiri Upanishad speaks of a unified field of the conscious
- 0:05universe, the spirit who is here in a man and the spirit who is
- 0:12there in the sun. It is one spirit and there is no
- 0:16other. Titiri Upanishad Brahmanandavali
- 0:21Chapter 8, translated by Sri Aurobindo In the Upanishads,
- 0:27many people believe that God is separate and distinct, someone
- 0:30living up in the clouds, so to speak, who directs, creates and
- 0:35manages our existence. They look upon God as some kind
- 0:40of king who imposes and disposes according to his whim.
- 0:45These people look upon themselves as separate beings
- 0:47who rely on God, who nevertheless have free will and
- 0:51can therefore act against the will of God, and who will be
- 0:55penalized by God if they do so. They never consider that they
- 1:00are actually unified in consciousness with God, and the
- 1:04realization of that unity of consciousness does not come to
- 1:07them. There are also many who have a
- 1:10different view and experience and who recognize that God,
- 1:14omnipresent, omnipotent, all knowing, having infinite
- 1:19extension and infinite consciousness, must necessarily
- 1:24encompass all space, all created universes and all beings in
- 1:30those universes, as otherwise there would be limits placed
- 1:34upon God and He would necessarily have to be
- 1:37considered finite, not infinite. In the first case, it is clearly
- 1:43not possible for the individual to unite with the consciousness
- 1:46of God. The individual is always
- 1:49inferior and subordinate. In the second case, however, it
- 1:54becomes possible for a realization of oneness with God
- 1:57to take place, and it is this aspiration that fuels the
- 2:02seeking and the tapasya, the disciplines of yogic practice.
- 2:09Eventually, it is through a tuning of focusing and an
- 2:14unwavering holding of that tuned aspiration that one can become
- 2:18conscious of and be identified with the Divine, as each
- 2:23individual is indeed an aspect of that one spirit in the life
- 2:30Divine. Sri Robindo describes the
- 2:32various methods of knowledge. Knowledge that separates the
- 2:36knower from the known is derivative knowledge and subject
- 2:40to error and misinterpretation. Knowledge by identity, where the
- 2:46knower, the known and the process of knowing are one, is
- 2:51true knowledge. The Titiri Upanishad once again
- 2:55in chapter 6 of the Brahmanandhavali quote.
- 2:59The spirit desired of old I would be manifest for the birth
- 3:03of peoples. Therefore He concentrated all
- 3:07himself in thought, and by the force of his brooding He created
- 3:11all this universe. Yeah, all whatsoever existeth.
- 3:16Now when he had brought it forth, he entered into that he
- 3:19had created. He entering in became the is
- 3:23here and the may be there. He became that which is defined
- 3:29and that which hath no feature. He became this howest thing and
- 3:34that houseless. He became knowledge and he
- 3:38became ignorance. He became truth and he became
- 3:43falsehood. Yeah, He became all truth, even
- 3:46whatsoever here existeth. Therefore they say of him that
- 3:51He is truth. End Quote.
- 3:55A disciple asks, can the divine be attained in this way?
- 4:01The Mother observes, quote. Do you understand?
- 4:04The only way of knowing the Divine is by identifying oneself
- 4:08with Him. There is no other.
- 4:11There's only one, one single way.
- 4:15Hence, once you are master of this method of identification,
- 4:19you can identify yourself. So you choose your object for
- 4:24identification. You want to identify yourself
- 4:27with the divine, but so long as you do not know how to identify
- 4:32yourself, 101 things will always come across your path, pulling
- 4:37you here, pulling you there, scattering you, and you will not
- 4:42be able to identify yourself with him.
- 4:46But if you have learned how to identify yourself, then you have
- 4:50only to Orient the identification, place it where
- 4:54you want it, and then hold on there until you get a result.
- 4:59It will come very fast. If you are master of your power
- 5:02of identification. Yes, it will come very quickly.
- 5:06Ramakrishna used to say that the time could vary between 3 days,
- 5:11three hours and 3 minutes. These days are for very slow
- 5:18people, three hours for those who were a little swifter, 3
- 5:23minutes for those who are used to it.
