- 0:14And good Thursday morning. It is, of course Thursday, which means one
- 0:19thing. Here on K one and fourteen ninety three point three and ninety five
- 0:23point one, it's time for car talk with Brad Dungeons of Dungeons Family.
- 0:29Good morning, how are you, bro, I'm doing great. Good morning
- 0:32friends out there. It's great to have you with us today. I've got
- 0:35my friend John Panel here from the Dungeons Ford Indians and welcome John Sallo.
- 0:40Hey, good morning everybody. Brad, glad to be here. Nathan,
- 0:43thank you, absolutely good to see you, my friend. Yeah. I
- 0:46want to before we get going on baseball, I want to say thank you
- 0:49to Jason from out of Barrowsville Bikes who came in last week. It was
- 0:53great to get to know him better. It's a little bike store in the
- 0:56mall that I stumbled across and needed work on my bike, and I thought
- 1:00he was pretty cool. Invited him to come beyond the show. We're off
- 1:06and running into June, and that means it is baseball season. Glad for
- 1:11the break and the rain and the storms. Looks like weather. It be
- 1:12okay this weekend. Probably at least they do finger six games coming up and
- 1:21a lot of other stuff going on. So yep, it seems like a
- 1:25really strong team this year, too. Talented young men. We're young.
- 1:29We're young. We're off to a good start. We're six and two and
- 1:33looking forward to just keeping good things going. Yeah. No, it's our
- 1:36eighty fourth year, John sponsoring baseball and Bartlesville here every summer since my grandfather
- 1:42bought the Ford dealership in nineteen forty one, and one of the first things
- 1:48he did was buying a baseball team to sponsor because he had been on sports
- 1:53teams as a youth and a little bit west of here in Oklahoma, and
- 1:57they were sponsored by the dealer there. And he knew when he got this
- 2:01opportunity that that's that was what he wanted to make his legacy. Well,
- 2:06he didn't waste any time, No, he does. He that was one
- 2:08thing about him. He very rarely wasted time. He was a busy fellow,
- 2:14those of you who remember him, he was. He was quite active
- 2:16and went to most of the games and and for for decades and uh,
- 2:22you know, traveled with the team a lot. And oh yeah, and
- 2:25you know, back in the day, insurance wasn't quite so crazy. And
- 2:29we win the team cars and everything, and it's just amazing to think all
- 2:36the lives impacted over all those years and eighty four years. We did the
- 2:38math before the show times. If it was twenty five games a year,
- 2:43I don't know how many games they really played, but that's probably plus or
- 2:46minus pretty close. He could probably average about forty forty years. So well,
- 2:52that'd be like thirty five hundred games. Yeah, Well, run a
- 2:59legacy, I'm telling yeah. I mean, just well in the dungeons people
- 3:02who know too, it's not really about dungees, you know, I think.
- 3:06I mean, it's just something we try to stay in the background,
- 3:09really because it's about those young men every summer out there getting their opportunity to
- 3:14perform in front of their families and the community and all the stuff you learn
- 3:20playing games and being part of a team, and especially these high, higher
- 3:23level competitive teams that they're play for regionally and were great to be back in
- 3:30the American Legion too, at least I assume that this is our this is
- 3:35our first year back in the American Legion in several years. When COVID hit,
- 3:40we didn't know if we're playing baseball at all, and then you know,
- 3:45it's trying to make a comeback, so we buy. This has been
- 3:49a part of American Leagues of Baseball in Barbiesville since before Dungeons. Yeah,
- 3:53that's right. I think this is ninety DearS with old Mike tupa put but
- 3:58you know he certainly would know shout out to my good friend Mike. Yes,
- 4:02good morning Mike. Yeah, So that's that's amazing stuff. You know.
- 4:09It was also recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the longest corporate
- 4:13sponsorship of a sports team in the world. At the time they phrased it,
- 4:17it was American Legion Baseball. So I don't know technicalities, maybe if
- 4:20it ended when we drive up, and I don't think so. I think
- 4:24that that's not the important thing. It's about the Nundes Auto Dealership and the
- 4:29team and really about those families and the kids and all the work it goes
- 4:33into ago. Yeah, I don't need to remind me that, but yeah,
- 4:42I know that all the but I really want to focus on, you
- 4:45know, the volunteers, the people that do all the work and you know,
- 4:49from preparing the field and working the gates and doing all the stuff,
- 4:54and you know, families getting their kids to the games and going and traveling
- 4:58with the team, so there's somebody there cheer and then yeah, it's great
- 5:01stuff. You know, that's nice. When we're on the road sometimes it's
- 5:04we will have a bigger crowd than the home team will. Yeah, and
- 5:09so that's that's always a good feeling at least for our guys. You know,
- 5:12it's nice to have a parents that have that kind of support. Yeah.
- 5:15I think it's been like that for years. Yeah, that's a it's
- 5:18a big deal in Bartlesville. If you haven't been to one of the games,
- 5:20this is a great opportunity this weekend to get out. There's tell us,
- 5:25let's the schedule, win of the game start and who are we playing?
- 5:29Uh, Friday, we are playing doubleheader starts at five forty five.
- 5:34We're playing the Diamond Dogs, which is a team out of the d BAT
- 5:36Collegiate League, which we actually played in last year. And then coming in
- 5:42on Saturday, we have a doubleheader against the Independence Cardinals which starts at four,
- 5:46and then we will play Tulsa Sandlot on Sunday, another doubleheader at five
- 5:50forty five. Said. Tulsa Sandlot is another part of the d BACK Collegiate
- 5:56League. Okay, we'll actually have we will have a few college pictures with
- 6:00us joining us on that because some of the guys might be twenty three years
- 6:05old. Well oh wow, we have some fifteen year old kids that start.
- 6:09So I've always believed in playing up and playing above your competition. So
- 6:14these young kids that get to play against college guys, it's a it makes
- 6:16them up their game. I better ball players. Yeah no, that's what
- 6:20it's all about, isn't it. And yeah, it's a great time of
- 6:26year, and so hopefully people will get out and with the doubleheader, you
- 6:29got an opportunity there to to you know, to check it out, you
- 6:32know, go to get dinner and come down to the field if you know,
- 6:34there's no pressure to see the whole thing. Oh yeah, oh no,
- 6:38oh no, no, I'm excited that. You know, Saturday is
- 6:40one of the dads. I had coached twelve U little league team last year,
- 6:45a T ball team, and so one of the dads kids, he's
- 6:47bringing his son out Saturday to be a bat boy. Oh cool, So
- 6:51excited about that. You know. It's fun when the kids come down there
- 6:55and I tell our guys when they get to the team for the first time
- 6:57I go, if a little kid ask for your autograph, they thank you,
- 7:01guys, are big lad I did that when I was young, younger
- 7:04young. It was a lot of fun hanging out in the dugout with with
- 7:12the team. I do remember that. That that made a big impression on
- 7:15it. I was always one up in the stands I was. Now I
- 7:17didn't play baseball, but well I didn't know I be I was the bat
- 7:20boy close enough to him. And you know, we see I wasn't even
- 7:25good enough to be the bat boy. I was just rarely. That was
- 7:29a rare opportunity. Sure, my grandfather pulled up. That's a lot of
- 7:35fun. It's a good family time down there. So and it's you know,
- 7:39thank you to the Dentist family for responsoring for all these years. And
- 7:43that's been a great thing for the community. Well, we're really proud to
- 7:46do it. I'm proud of you guys, and uh really looking forward to
- 7:48another great summer of baseball here in Bartlesville. It's uh, we've got a
- 7:53lot going on with the dealership too. It's been h We're often running into
- 7:57June and got great incentives and inventory. We've got lots of great interest rates
- 8:05right now. Obviously with standard interest rates for being a little higher, it's
- 8:09kind of put pressure on car payments and everybody's trying to figure that out,
- 8:13but feeling that our ward has got some great rates right now on SUVs.
- 8:18We've got zero for sixty on Escape plus one thousand dollars, so you get
- 8:24to read and zero for sixty and that zero for sixty. People don't realize
- 8:28how much that saves them. You think of taking that money, say you're
- 8:33borrowing thirty or forty thousand dollars and zero percent interest, and you know if
- 8:39you put that in the in a bank and a CD and right now you'd
- 8:43be getting five percent back too. And you know, so they're they're giving
- 8:48you a lot of money. And the standard rates right now are often in
- 8:52that range five point nine and on up. And we see a lot,
- 8:56you know, a lot of good credit people you know that can qualify for
- 9:00seven percent rates is unfortunately what has become the normal again. But with zero
- 9:07percent, like I said on Escape, Bronco sport explore all for sixty months
- 9:13and then they've got additional rebates on top of that one thousand dollars on the
- 9:16Bronco Sport and Escape and seven hundred and fifty dollars on the Explore. Those
- 9:22are twenty three models, and then our Bronco has a one thousand dollars rebate
- 9:26and if you own a Jeep, they'll give you one thousand dollars in conquest
- 9:31money too, So great rebeats on Bronco. And we finally have a lot,
- 9:35a great selection of Broncos after a couple of years where they were really
- 9:39hard to get, we've got really cool Broncos and they're kind of becoming available
- 9:46and that's really exciting for people, better value for them, and lots of
- 9:52excitement around that vehicle. The Bronco Sport too, is one that's become really
- 9:56popular. Yeah, and it's a smaller version of the Ronco but has a
- 10:00lot of the same off road capabilities and technology in it and a small package
- 10:05and you can accessorize it really well for all the lifestyle stuff people like to
- 10:11do with their vehicles these days, whether it's getting on the road to go
- 10:15to watch a baseball game somewhere or going off to the lake camping and fishing,
- 10:20whatever you do in your vehicle, there's a lot a lot of flexibility
- 10:24there and vehicles like that. We've got a lot of buzz right now around
- 10:28the Toyota land Cruiser that's come back, coming back, Yeah, coming back.
- 10:31It's been off the they didn't build them for a couple of years there.
- 10:37It had become kind of a premiere flagship SUV for Toyota, at the
- 10:43top of the line luxury vehicle, you know, back in the fifties.
- 10:46It started out as a rugged, absolutely tough vehicle that you know. Of
- 10:50course, Toyota is known for making great vehicles and high quality vehicles that last
- 10:54forever, and a land Cruiser has been one of those. And so we've
- 10:58got a new model coming back, and it's going to be uh, you
- 11:03know, i'd say more like the Bronco than like the old land Cruise or
- 11:07the last generation of land Cruiser, and a really cool looking vehicle, a
- 11:11lot of great technology in it. Yeah, it's we've had calls from all
- 11:15over the country on that because everybody who gets one of these first edition models,
- 11:22which there's only five thousand of them made, and uh, you know
- 11:26we you know, through COVID in the last few years, was we've gotten
- 11:31these special vehicles. It's been a challenge to I don't want to say this
- 11:35is wrong, figure out who to sell the cars, but when from all
- 11:41over the country, yeah, it's it's kind of weird, and and you
- 11:45know, and sometimes there were huge markups on these vehicles, and you know
- 11:48that, uh, that's not typically how we operate. You know. We
- 11:52try to treat everybody the same and go offered great simple prices on all our
- 11:56vehicles. And the name of the Just Deal was just out there and people
- 12:01were offering us, you know, thousands over MSRP and I don't even know
- 12:05when I'll have the vehicle, to be honest, so it's kind of crazy
- 12:09to me. So what we decided to do is have people apply for the
- 12:13opportunity to get you know, create a list basically of people interested in our
- 12:18first edition. There's we're likely to only get one of those this year.
- 12:22We do have two others that are allocated, so we're gonna have plenty of
- 12:26land cruisers on that list. Are you gonna is it a random drawing or
- 12:30well, we're gonna, well, there as we're going to look for a
- 12:37local home. Let's put it that way. We're gonna you know, there's
- 12:39a couple of questions on the application what's your history with Toyota, what's your
- 12:43history with done? Just so we'd really like, you know land cruiser history,
- 12:46people who've owned a bunch of those, uh, maybe been a loyal
- 12:50customer of ours or love Toyota and had a lot of those through their lives.
- 12:54We just want to hear your story and and uh, you know,
- 12:58we're going to pick a winner that's there on a truth on that, but
- 13:01everybody who applies, as we get more of these allocated, we're going to
- 13:03start with the first applicant and offer them to the applicants in there. So
- 13:09it's really a way to create a buzz and you know, have an organized
- 13:13list of people that are interested in our first rounds of the land cruiser.
- 13:20And of course once they start hitting the lot and we have them, you'll
- 13:22go back to normal of course. Yeah, but we've had great customers applying
- 13:26already, many great loyal customers, so it's going to be a lot of
- 13:31fun. Not that many, truthfully, so I think there's still like maybe
- 13:35five or six people have applied. So you know, if you can still
- 13:39get in there early and have a chance at one of these land cruisers,
- 13:41pretty good chances. It sounds like, yeah, the latest news is,
- 13:46here's the bad news at the vehicles on hold. Of course it's been held
- 13:52at the distribution centers. If Toyota hadn't really said publicly why, but I
- 13:58heard that it was the skid plates where they ran out in the production cycle.
- 14:03So they're sending them to the distribution centers to have them installed there.
- 14:07So that will take a bit to get through each vehicle. So that's just
- 14:13on two of the models that there's a trim level called nineteen fifty eight that
- 14:18I understand. If those start to arrive, those are going to go on
- 14:20out to dealers and be ready for sale. And we have one of those
- 14:24that's supposed to be here. I think hit the vehicle processing center on June
- 14:28eighteenth, so it'll probably be on the lot or in Bartlesville around July first,
- 14:33so we'll have one here you can look at. I know a lot
- 14:37of people, you know, they want to they're maybe hesitant to apply even
- 14:41though there's no there's no risk and apply for there's show commitment. You don't
- 14:45have to do anything. We'll work with you and help you get the right
- 14:50vehicle. But just raise your hand and let us know you're interested we're asking,
- 14:56Yeah, just the buzz that that generates. And I mean it's going
- 15:00to be an extremely popular vehicle. I think so. And you know that's
- 15:03there's always tension at this point when we have these really nice vehicles coming out
- 15:07and everybody wants to get their hands on one, So bear with us a
- 15:11little bit, especially when they're on hold. It's a little bit. Didn't
- 15:16you go through a lot of the similar stuff with the Bronco when it came
- 15:18back out, Oh, yes, we did. I mean and during the
- 15:20pandemic. I mean, those were those were even more challenging in some ways
- 15:26because we had pre orders that were in there and you're not built for over
- 15:31a year. I mean, people waited and waited and waited for their Bronco
- 15:35and there were some many thousands more orders placed than were possible to build in
- 15:41the first round, so it was it was crazy. Toyota doesn't operate with
- 15:46with retail orders like that, so it's a little bit different just in the
- 15:52manufacturing philosophy and how they allocate vehicles. But uh, you know we do.
- 15:56We can get you exactly what you want with Toyota's it's just we have
- 16:00to they have to be in the production flow and we can say, hey,
- 16:03I'll give you this wrap for for that one that's exactly what you want,
- 16:08and we kind of trade them out of the cycle and they get us.
- 16:11They can get us anything pretty much that way, but it's not the
- 16:15same as ordering it, and then it starts to be built in the factory
- 16:18with your name stamped on it. Yeah, exactly. So that's that's a
- 16:22lot of fun. So you can check that out on our website at doneus
- 16:26Toyota dot com. We do have all new websites. We just launched in
- 16:30the last few weeks, and so if you haven't been out there in a
- 16:33while, go check it out. It's new, it's a little more interactive,
- 16:36it works better on the phone, it's a little bit faster. All
- 16:41the same great technology we had on the website before and even more, and
- 16:45we're looking to add other stuff. You know, we have our great digital
- 16:49retailing tool which allows you to go in and actually work your own cardial.
- 16:53You can you can see all the incentives, the interest rates I mentioned,
- 16:57rebates, rebates, and you know, play value your trade, look at
- 17:04your credit. Nobody else can see it. What's called a softball where you
- 17:08can actually get an actual credit call from a bank with an actual number without
- 17:15it pulling your credit so it has no effect on your credit score, doesn't
- 17:19show up on your bureau and it's a it's a you know, you can
- 17:23go in there and really dial in your payment, just like you know the
- 17:26sales manager and the you know would have to do in the office when it
- 17:30was calculating your deal and then them salesmen would come back and tell you so
- 17:33taking all that time out and all the frustration of what are they doing in
- 17:38the in that office, it's amazing what what technology will do. Right,
- 17:42But it is it's changing so fast. You know, we're seeing that in
- 17:47service too with with our pickup and delivery and forward and mobile service. You
- 17:52know, we did over fifty of those last month and and it's it's pretty
- 17:57amazing. As this is grown, people are realizing how much time it saves
- 18:04them. I mean, truthfully, if you think about it, if you
- 18:07come into a car dealership, any dealership, and they have to greet you,
- 18:12write you up, write a repair order, move your vehicle around to
- 18:17the back, dispatch the work to a technician, get the parts from the
- 18:19parts to park up and they hadn't even started working on your vehicle, and
- 18:26then the thing kind of happens again. When it's done. It's like the
- 18:27deck has to finish the vehicle, pull it out of the stall, get
- 18:30the ticket back to the parts department so they can close it out. Then
- 18:34it goes to the service advisor has to close it out, CA share you
- 18:38out and you're sitting in the lounge that whole time. It may take only
- 18:44what ten thirty minutes to do your service, but before that, there's another
- 18:49minutes or even longer if there's other people ahead of you in line, and
- 18:53then and then there's so you know, that same fifteen or twenty minutes at
- 18:57the end. By going one to you, that time is kind of on
- 19:03up right. We bring it to you, we do the service, and
- 19:06we're out of there and you can pay on your phone. It's for super
- 19:11simple. Uh, if it's if there's no A lot of the services we're
- 19:15doing on the mobile service are our recalls and over there updates of software and
- 19:21things like that. Those have become, you know, more ubiquitous as the
- 19:25vehicles have more software and of course and we're all familiar with that, yes,
- 19:29we are the that we can go out there and update your system and
- 19:34uh, we're on the road. It's incredible, incredible. That pickup service
- 19:40you're doing is out of the commercials and that's a that's a great timestay with
- 19:42some people or people who are not even that you might be a little older
- 19:48and have a little trouble getting out. Yeah. Man, that's a fantastic
- 19:51service for people. Yeah, and we're looking at expanding that as we go
- 19:55forward. It's give our team a call. It's not for every service obviously,
- 20:02and there's some limitations for how far we can go. Of course,
- 20:06we can take take out to the New York right now. I'm just kidding.
- 20:10I will, but give them a call and they'll walk you through it.
- 20:11It's really pretty simple. And if you want to go online, you
- 20:15can schedule the service online and request the pick them and delivery and robile service
- 20:22there too. Yeah. Great times, great times. Yeah, So let's
- 20:27get back to baseball. Well, we had a few minutes left, and
- 20:30you know, I know we mentioned the games this weekend. I think you
- 20:34have another round of home stand games that later in the month, and then
- 20:37we have the Winget tournament. Let's remind everybody about that because this is sixty
- 20:42fifth year. I think of Winet, isn't it sixty five years of the
- 20:47windsed once again left fireworks on sorry night, so you get them on the
- 20:52four fourth is on a Thursday this year, so you have to get the
- 20:56city fireworks. I forget who's doing Friday. Think when the Hillcraft or somebody's
- 21:02doing Friday. I mean, I think you can hit Sunday. I think
- 21:07you're gonna be able to hit in the area for fireworks show. So that's
- 21:11part of the way it's so it's fun in the Windy. We've gone to
- 21:15twelve teams and coaches now who since we've been doing this, they ask who's
- 21:22playing the fireworks game because it's so cool to finish your game and then have
- 21:27your team stay there in the dugout or they get right there on the turf
- 21:30and it's all right there and they think that is the neatest thing and it's
- 21:37become a great experience. Cool. But yeah, after this weekend we hit
- 21:41the road. We're gonna leave Wednesday. We're leaving the day early. We
- 21:45take a trip to Mountain Home, Arkansas. That's uh, you know,
- 21:47we do some trout fishing. We oh fun staying cabins. We do all
- 21:52the cooking there, the little team building. I know, you guys focus
- 21:55on that of the team and bonding and we do. The guys learned very
- 22:02quickly. We have a lot of new guys this year. We only returned
- 22:03five from last year's team. They were leaving the dugout Saturday after we just
- 22:07had a double header sweep, the great sweep and told them all to get
- 22:11back in there tridder or some trash. There are some balls out. Half
- 22:15the team was in there and we went out and we did some running and
- 22:19we did a wake up cause some of the older guys were scared because they've
- 22:22been there. But after that, we come back on the twentieth, Yeah,
- 22:27the twentieth, So June twentieth, we will be here at five for
- 22:30WEE five for doubleheader. June twenty sixth and twenty seventh, there's two more
- 22:37doubleheaders and then you have the widget which will run July fourth through the seventh.
- 22:42So check out the schedule. Where can people go to get more information
- 22:45and see the schedule on the team or there's there a place to get updates
- 22:48and stuff. Yeah, so if you have a smartphone than that you can
- 22:52get an app that's called Game Changer and you can search our team which is
- 22:56Dungeons Ford Indians, or you can go grab us on Facebook then just for
- 23:00Indians. Yeah, that's great. Great to check them out and do go
- 23:04out to the games this weekend. I think it'll be it's going to be
- 23:08a great time time and it should be great weather and a little bit warm
- 23:14on Saturday maybe, but Sunday. Yeah, if you haven't been in the
- 23:19stadium, oh my god, average ballpark, No, it's not. It's
- 23:25a gorgeous facility. One is classic ballpark. I mean, in my opinion.
- 23:30Now, now I've lived in Bartoso all my most of my life,
- 23:33I moved to Rapid City, South Dakota, where Legion Ball is very big
- 23:37there as well, and they just recently redid their main stadium. And I'm
- 23:42telling you, Bill Dungeon's Memorial Stadium still is the goat in my mind.
- 23:48I might be a little biased. I don't know. It's got that heritage
- 23:52of history too, of having so many great players. And I have some
- 23:56of the original paperwork and the bids that were oh yeah, I think is
- 24:00twenty some twenty eight thousand dollars was the winning bid to build that. Yeah,
- 24:03so you think like in these days, oh my gosh, and we've
- 24:07had a World of American Leisure World Series there. Yeah, three great back
- 24:14back in the day, I mean we had you know, actual MLB games
- 24:17going on. Wait wait, talk in some history. Well, you know
- 24:23Dungeons for Indians Baseball. I mean, what a great summer tradition that we
- 24:29have here in town. And of course we always want to thank the Dungeons
- 24:33family of Autos for their consistent sponsorship of that. You say, eighty four
- 24:37years four record breaking literally a relationship between a business sponsoring a great baseball team
- 24:47here locally. And you know we hear the radio station as well. We
- 24:51love we love that partnership as well because we get to go to those games
- 24:55and in broadcasting and just you guys, broadcasting games is such an important part
- 25:03of the team. I think through the years, the ability for the families
- 25:07to stay connected when they can't travel with the team, and for people who
- 25:11aren't going just to stay there and to really draw attention to the team.
- 25:15It's just a great, great partnership. Yeah, we love it, and
- 25:18we love talking to John all the time. I know he's always speaking with
- 25:21Evan Fahbach, our sports director, Chase mcdott, our assistant sports director,
- 25:25about everything going on. Of course, John and I go way out,
- 25:27way back. I want to talk about that. But one thing we do
- 25:30need to talk about, Brad, is if somebody wants to come and purchase
- 25:34a vehicle Ford or Toyota or I used vehicle, where are you at and
- 25:38how can they get to you? Nineteen oh one or nineteen eleven Southeast Washington
- 25:42Boulevard. We're right on the there. You see the Toyota monolith and the
