- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, Demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Adam Smith in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:38Hi, it's Adam here and you're about to listen to a hypnosis
- 0:43session all about activating A swimmer identity.
- 0:49And one of the things that I think is one of the most
- 0:51profound distinctions in therapeutic change is the
- 0:54difference between changing a behaviour and changing an
- 0:59identity. And there is a big difference
- 1:02from someone that occasionally swims and someone that sees
- 1:06themself as a swimmer. And if you're watching this, you
- 1:10probably know how to swim. But do you swim consistently?
- 1:14Do you do it in a challenging way?
- 1:16Do you try and compete? Because that's what swimmers do.
- 1:19When people really tap into the swimmer identity, they train
- 1:24consistently. They are aware of their speed,
- 1:28their stamina, their lengths, their stroke style.
- 1:31They're looking to refine and this particular client
- 1:34originally came to work with me to reduce the amount of alcohol.
- 1:38We'd managed to reduce the amount of alcohol that they were
- 1:40taking significantly. And she used her final session
- 1:43really to embrace the swimmer identity.
- 1:46And she had this identity about 12 or 13 years before.
- 1:50So this hypnosis session starts with regression to a couple of
- 1:55different. By either lakes.
- 1:57Or swimming in the sea, places that she knew very well and that
- 2:01was designed to reawaken that enthusiasm, that passion.
- 2:05It has levels of disassociation. And it also has this idea that
- 2:09by her swimming, her life is enhanced in various ways.
- 2:14Leaner body, more confidence, higher self esteem, more energy,
- 2:18more clarity. And in fact, the other areas of
- 2:21her life that she also valued, like her relationship, being
- 2:26owner of two dogs, having a a real passion for her work, would
- 2:32all be enhanced by her reactivating her swimmer
- 2:36identity. Now it might be that swimming
- 2:40isn't your thing, in which case I would encourage you to think
- 2:43of this session as reactivating what identity you've ever had in
- 2:48the past that was the most empowering and beneficial for
- 2:52you. But if you do like the idea of
- 2:55being a swimmer and swimming more, you'll get even more value
- 3:00from this session. Now it was created for an
- 3:03individual, so some of the suggestions are going to be very
- 3:05relevant to the client and not so relevant to you.
- 3:08So if you do like the idea of working with me directly rather
- 3:12than just listening to recordings, there will be a link
- 3:14in the description and also on my website, adamcox.co.uk, and
- 3:19you'll be able to book a free consultation call over Zoom.
- 3:22We'll have a chat and who knows, we might end up working
- 3:25together. For now though, find a quiet,
- 3:28comfortable place where you won't be disturbed.
- 3:30Relax and enjoy the session. Take a.
- 3:49Deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 3:56slow, long breath of relaxation. And as you exhale, feel a
- 4:07wonderful feeling of release, as if any tension, stress and
- 4:14worries gradually, incrementally starting to leave your body in
- 4:23that outward breath. And then when you breathe in,
- 4:30breathe in deeper and longer than you normally would.
- 4:38That's it. Activate the diaphragm.
- 4:41Breathe in that feeling of resourceful relaxation, and as
- 4:48you exhale, allow it to release like a sigh, any trapped
- 4:56frustrations or tensions or old echoes of the past just feeling
- 5:02like they're being released. Give permission to release any
- 5:08tension in your forehead, your jaw, your neck of your
- 5:14shoulders. That's it.
- 5:19Breathing in relaxation, exhaling tension.
- 5:24Each breath takes you deeper and deeper.
- 5:30Relaxed now. The deeper you breathe, the more
- 5:40relaxed you feel. And the more relaxed you feel,
- 5:45the deeper you breathe and imagine as your body relaxes
- 5:50more. Now your imagination awakens.
- 5:57And I want you to imagine an island, An island by the coast,
- 6:06on the morning of what soon will be a sunny day, maybe just after
- 6:14sunrise. The golden oranges, yellows,
- 6:23perhaps even the pinks in the sky.
- 6:28And I want you to feel what you would feel like if you set the
- 6:33intention to be there early. And maybe you can recall a
- 6:40memory, a time when you were looking out to the water but
- 6:51hadn't entered the water yet. And I want you to imagine there,
- 7:00perhaps on a beach or a nearby field overlooking the island.
- 7:09Just imagine the most comfortable chair that's ever
- 7:13existed. Just imagine you're wearing a
- 7:18wet suit, a light wet suit, the kind that can enable you to
- 7:25swim, have good motion, still keep warm.
- 7:32And as you imagine wearing that wet suit, imagine sinking into
- 7:36that comfortable chair, thinking about that island, the waves,
- 7:46the currents, the tactics, that's it.
- 7:54And just get a sense. But as you sink into that chair,
- 7:59I will count down from 12:50. And with each descending number,
- 8:05you will drift deeper and deeper to a place that awakens the
- 8:11power of your subconscious mind. 10 Eyelids feeling heavier. 9
- 8:25Feeling your jaw loosen. 8 The tiny muscles in your forehead,
- 8:32those muscles responsible for facial expressions like surprise
- 8:37or concern, give permission to release any tension there.
- 8:44Feel that internal desire to yawn.
- 8:48I feel that relaxation linked to the idea of a yawn rippling down
- 8:52into your neck and your shoulders is 8 becomes seven and
- 8:56seven becomes 6. And feel your arms feeling limp,
- 9:00loose and heavy, sinking into that chair there overlooking the
- 9:06island. 5 Imagine your lungs, stomach and gut all start to
- 9:13feel relaxed, aligned in harmony. 5 becomes 4.
- 9:20Feel it moving from your gut into your abdomen and then down
- 9:25into your legs. And then four becomes 3.
- 9:27And just feel your legs getting limp, loose and heavy, feeling
- 9:32relaxed. That's it. 2 Down into your
- 9:37calves and then one your ankles, down to the tips of your toes.
- 9:42And then allow what feels like a ripple of relaxation from your
- 9:47toes, up your body to the top of your head, and then down to the
- 9:53tips of your fingers. And I wonder what it would feel
- 9:57like to drift into a dream like sleep.
- 10:03A dream of what was, what is, and what will be.
- 10:12That's it. Drift to that place now, a place
- 10:16where your imagination is receptive to new ideas awakening
- 10:23neural pathways, beliefs, standards and habits of your
- 10:30past. That's it.
- 10:40And I want you to imagine there is an identity within linked to
- 10:45the idea of being a swimmer. And for a while that identity
- 10:54was frozen solid. But now, and in the weeks that
- 11:00follow, that identity will thaw. Instead of being locked in ice,
- 11:07it will meltdown until that identity is reawakened.
- 11:19While you're in that dreamlike sleep on the chair near Sandy
- 11:26Cove Island, imagine what it would feel like to be dreaming
- 11:32about just about to enter the water.
- 11:38Imagine it's early, just after sunrise now.
- 11:43The light is soft and the air is clean and fresh.
- 11:49And imagine hearing the water gently moving against the shore,
- 11:55that quiet, rhythmic sound that already feels familiar and
- 12:00reassuring. I want you to feel the
- 12:08temperature of the air on the skin on your face, the feeling
- 12:13of standing close to the water. That's subtle anticipation.
- 12:19And when you're ready, you step in and the water wraps around
- 12:27you, merging with the material of your wetsuit on your skin.
- 12:35And I want you to feel that sea water meets you as a greeting,
- 12:43like something recognizing you, almost the connotation of we're
- 12:51glad you're back. I want you to imagine beginning
- 12:58swimming around the island anti clockwise, at an easy, natural
- 13:06pace. Not forcing speed, not chasing
- 13:11performance, just moving. And I want you to think of a
- 13:19stroke that feels natural, aligned, that links to memories
- 13:30of the past. In this island, the body
- 13:34remembers the timing, the rhythm, the quiet efficiency,
- 13:44and with every stroke you feel more like you notice your
- 13:52breathing, the rhythm, the movement, noticing currents and
- 13:59waves. Strategy of getting closer or
- 14:04further from the shore using a natural movement of water from
- 14:11the rocks to your advantage. It all comes flooding back and
- 14:17this this isn't behaviour, this is identity because it's your
- 14:29imagination. As you go around the island,
- 14:32notice the island disappears and rather than being in the sea,
- 14:41you're now in a lock. Maybe a specific lock like Loch
- 14:46Hine. Maybe the temperature is
- 14:50different, or the currents, or the waves, But the feeling, the
- 14:57feeling of belonging is there, connected to a memory, an idea.
- 15:05Perhaps a time when swimming was joyful, playful and free.
- 15:10That's it. And notice how your body
- 15:17responds to this memory, how deeply it recognizes it.
- 15:26And as you float gently here, allow yourself to drift even
- 15:32deeper. Now every sound, every ripple of
- 15:38the wave, every sensation takes you deeper and further in, and
- 15:48every breath settles you more completely.
- 15:57With each stroke in this memory, feel yourself drifting deeper
- 16:03into comfort, and with each breath you sink into
- 16:07familiarity. I'll countdown from 5:00 to 1:00
- 16:13as it takes you deeper to those neural pathways.
- 16:18Identity 5. Floating easily 4.
- 16:24The water supporting you fully 3.
- 16:28Nothing to prove, nothing to push 2.
- 16:32The body aligned, the mind clear, and one feel fully
- 16:40connected to swimming, not as something you do, but as
- 16:44something you are. Let's speak to that part within
- 16:52you, the particular level not of behaviour but of identity,
- 17:03because at this level you don't do swimming.
- 17:07You are a swimmer. And what if that identity never
- 17:13left? It was hibernating, resting,
- 17:21waiting for the right moment to re emerge.
- 17:27And now it does. And over the days and weeks and
- 17:32months that follow, you will notice it.
- 17:36First in subtle ways. Maybe it will be a desire to
- 17:42train consistently, not from discipline but from alignment.
- 17:50Not something you have to do, something you want to do.
- 17:56But swimming feels right again. You look forward to it.
- 18:03You plan around it naturally. It's something you look forward
- 18:11to because you get to do it. It's a choice, a privilege, and
- 18:18you begin noticing more clues because you're swimming more.
- 18:26Your speed is improving, your stamina returning, your body
- 18:33adapting and responding. And I don't know if it will be
- 18:39weeks or months, but sometime soon, without expecting it, you
- 18:47will catch a glimpse of yourself in a reflection, maybe a window,
- 18:52maybe a mirror, maybe water. And you will notice a change, A
- 18:59leaner frame, a more toned physique through force.
- 19:08But through the kind of repetition that is guided by
- 19:10identity, your intuition becomes your coach, knowing when to push
- 19:21and knowing when to ease off. You have nothing to prove.
- 19:29This is about passion, not obligation, and you listen to
- 19:37that intuition, you adapt, you protect your body by respecting
- 19:43it, and you reduce the chance of injury by listening to it.
- 19:54And these thoughts of locks and seas reawaken a desire.
- 20:04As you feel drawn to open water again, the sea, the lakes, the
- 20:09rivers, especially early in the day before work or on weekends,
- 20:18and if you need to swim alone, the pool feels right,
- 20:24structured, focused, clean and safe.
- 20:30And when swimming in nature, you enjoy company.
- 20:35Others who share the water, shared effort, shared presence.
- 20:42And maybe your dogs are there too, perhaps fully embracing the
- 20:49water or maybe being more tentative.
- 20:55But they love it. As do you, In fact, the more you
- 21:04notice your dog's enjoying water, the more that feeling is
- 21:09contagious in you and your desire, enthusiasm and joy
- 21:15increases. You might call it inspiration or
- 21:21mirror neurons. It doesn't matter what causes in
- 21:26you, just know that the more you swim, the more you like it, and
- 21:33the more you like it, the more joyful, alive and connected you
- 21:38feel. Connected to your dogs but
- 21:43connected to your partner. It almost seems that there is a
- 21:48ripple effect of all this swimming and when the swimmer
- 21:54identity truly reactivates, then everything else also benefits.
- 22:03I want you to imagine that your work quality improves because
- 22:11your mental clarity sharpens, because your energy levels rise,
- 22:18and all of that comes from you being aligned with your passion.
- 22:25Imagine moving through the day more focused, more efficient.
- 22:32Imagine your relationship deepens even more that you feel
- 22:38more like the person that they first met.
- 22:44Think of all of those wonderful qualities you had back then, and
- 22:49imagine all of them enhancing. I want you to think that the
- 22:57closer you get to that ideal version of you, the happier you
- 23:02feel, The more confident you feel, the more alive you feel.
- 23:08And with that higher self esteem comes greater body confidence,
- 23:13more passion, more presence. Because when you feel good in
- 23:18your body, that changes how you show up in other areas of your
- 23:25life. Don't be surprised if people you
- 23:29haven't seen for a while start making comments or compliments
- 23:34about your energy. That you seem happier, more
- 23:39joyful, more focused. And don't be surprised if you
- 23:46begin to see food differently, not as restriction and not as
- 23:51reward, but as fuel. Intuitively, you know what food
- 23:58support, performance, recovery and clarity.
- 24:05When you immerse yourself in something that stimulates,
- 24:08fulfills you, then any desire for alcohol naturally reduces.
- 24:15Not through effort, not through self-control, but simply because
- 24:22it doesn't align with who you are and who you are becoming.
- 24:28That's it. Connect without feeling
- 24:32momentum, progress and imagine you're still swimming in lakes
- 24:39or in the sea while imagining yourself at a swim camp in early
- 24:47summer. Imagine yourself arriving fit,
- 24:52healthy, strong. Imagine that your speed is back
- 24:59and your stamina is solid. Imagine there's a version of you
- 25:04that turns up that is lean, toned, efficient, oozing
- 25:12confidence in the water. And all of that training that
- 25:18was guided by intuition and not pressure meant that you're now
- 25:25not making the same gains you were in the preceding weeks.
- 25:32And that's why you're there to find a breakthrough.
- 25:37Slight change to a technique, perhaps a way of thinking about
- 25:42water. Something to unlock the next
- 25:46level, because plateaus are there as launch pads.
- 25:56Launch pads to the next level. A place where breakthroughs are
- 26:01ready to happen. Imagine observing that version
- 26:06of you in the future that refines A technique that learns
- 26:12more, that unlocks new levels. And this camp is not the
- 26:20finishing line, just a stepping stone.
- 26:26I want you to imagine your life beyond the camp, perhaps in
- 26:32competitive races where you're looking forward to competing
- 26:41mainly with yourself. Every race is trying to beat
- 26:49some new threshold that represent progress, maybe a
- 26:55faster time, or maybe the pride comes from knowing how well you
- 27:00did in the conditions that you swam in.
- 27:06You don't need to compare yourself against others in your
- 27:09age group, but whenever you do, it's either congratulations or
- 27:17inspiration. No judgement, no pressure.
- 27:25You can either feel proud of where you are or feel inspired
- 27:29by others around you, knowing then that's possible for you
- 27:33too. Fitness, confidence and social
- 27:39connection all rise together, and I want you to feel that
- 27:45after a while. Swimming just integrates
- 27:48seamlessly into your life. I want you to think about your
- 27:56relationship with your dogs. I want you to think that you do
- 28:05things consistently, day after day, because it links to an
- 28:10identity. It doesn't require willpower to
- 28:16take them for a walk or make sure they're fed.
- 28:20It just aligns with your identity.
- 28:24And imagine that taking place now with swimming.
- 28:29A swimmer is who you are, so swimming is what you do.
- 28:35And at the deepest level, one truth anchors everything.
- 28:44You don't have to swim. You get to swim.
- 28:50There will be a time in your life, perhaps decades in the
- 28:53future, but swimming around an island or in a lake or in a 50m
- 29:00pool won't be possible. And wouldn't it be nice, all
- 29:09that time in the future, when it's not possible, to think back
- 29:14to that wonderful time where you reawakened an identity,
- 29:21unleashed a new level of joy and enthusiasm?
- 29:26To feel that swimming is a privilege, a gift, an expression
- 29:31of who you are. And the more you live from that
- 29:36identity, the easier everything becomes.
- 29:44Imagine swimming in the lake and finding it morphing back into
- 29:50the sea around an island. Imagine swimming back to shore
- 29:57and imagine up on a hillside or there on the beach, seeing
- 30:04someone wearing a wet suit looking like you in a dreamlike
- 30:08sleep in a comfortable chair. Imagine stepping into that
- 30:14version of You 2 become one. You leave the chair and see what
- 30:26a joy, privilege and pleasure it is to get to swim in nature and
- 30:35everything else. The changing body shape, the
- 30:39enhanced mental clarity, the leanness, the new enthusiasm and
- 30:46passion for life that is just a side effect of reawakening a
- 30:54wonderful identity. To allow yourself to start to
- 30:59float back to your present, take a deep breath in through your
- 31:03nose and out through your nose. Wiggle your fingers, wiggle your
- 31:10toes, connect and calibrate into the here and the now.
- 31:17Because when I count from 1:00 to 10:00, you will awaken with
- 31:21energy returning, clarity rising with a new desire to fully
- 31:27embrace this identity as a swimmer.
- 31:32Starting to count 123 Waking up 456.
- 31:38More alert 7-8 Open your eyes. Open your eyes 910.
- 31:45Wide awake, Wide awake. Wide awake.
