- 0:31Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: We're excited to be able to uh bring them together.
- 0:35Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And uh the episode is gonna be mostly uh both of the the guests speaking because uh it's their craft uh that they're gonna be talking about, and we are going to just jump right in.
- 0:50Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: So, first off, we have uh guest, returning guest, David Solomon.
- 0:56Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: Um, y'all may uh remember from prior episodes, um, and we also have T that is with us, and they are going to discuss uh the writing process, all kinds of uh aspects that go into uh what eventually comes out to be a polished product.
- 1:24Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: So, David T, thank you so much for joining us.
- 1:28Voices for Voices, Justin Alan Hayes: And uh David, if you want to get started, and we'll just go from there, have a have a laid-back conversation.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: Um, so everybody knows me by now, David Solomon, uh CEO of Mythical Creatures Around the World and uh basically head director for Voices for Voices Publishing.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: Um and it it's just been a blessing seeing what we can do to push the industry.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: And I talked about this uh a week ago about AI being transparent, but also using AI to do amazing things.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: One of the people I talked about is actually our guest that inspired me to uh to keep going despite backlash, despite uh just a bunch of haters, because there's a lot of vision, a lot of time uh that goes into what we do.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: And so this is T Wrights.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: He uh has written a masterpiece called the Deaconverse.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: I would say masterpiece.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: I'll let him take it away from here.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: Hey I'm T Wright, and um I am the uh the creator of the Deaconverse.
- 2:53SPEAKER_03: So the the Deaconverse um is just something I've been putting together for 10 plus years, and I didn't like actually go like um serious with it until last year of 2025 in October.
- 3:09SPEAKER_03: And it was uh talking to somebody, uh she's a historical.
- 3:14SPEAKER_03: I don't know if you've you've heard of uh Stephanie Lansham?
- 3:18SPEAKER_03: Stephanie I have yeah, she's like the the Christian historical uh fiction writer.
- 3:25SPEAKER_03: And I met her at a um uh a book convention over uh at the casino where I work, and she thought I was security.
- 3:35SPEAKER_03: Because you know, I wear a suit.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: Um at work, I wear suits.
- 3:40SPEAKER_03: So um, and she's and she's like, uh, oh that's your security.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: I was like, no, I'm the I'm the guy that um one of the authors said that was a writer because I had helped somebody find the convention because you know the casino's huge.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: Oh and so I I found uh I helped her find it, and she um she was like, I asked her, I was like, wait, is this a right, is this a writer's convention?
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: And she said, Yeah, it is actually it's for historical fiction.
- 4:09SPEAKER_03: I was like, oh, cool.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: And she's like, You right?
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: I was like, Yeah, I I I do write, but you know, I I did publish a book, but I'm not really you know um serious about it.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: I just published it to say I published something, but after like looking into the Christian rules or whatever, I just didn't know if the my genre or my niche was uh ready for what I was writing.
- 4:34SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 4:35SPEAKER_03: And uh so she was like, Oh, I think there's a Christian writer up there.
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: And then she introduced me to uh pretty much to uh Stephanie, and Stephanie was telling me like the the do's and the don'ts in Christian fiction, and I was like, Well Stephanie, I'm breaking a lot of those rules.
- 4:52SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, because you know I guess Christian fiction they say has to have a clear-cut hero.
- 5:00SPEAKER_03: Um there can't be no moral ambiguity.
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: Um, it it um of course no sex on page and things like that.
- 5:08SPEAKER_03: And I wasn't I'm not breaking that rule.
- 5:11SPEAKER_03: Like I do uh I do believe in that kind of stuff.
- 5:14SPEAKER_03: Like, hey, that stuff shouldn't shouldn't be in Christian fiction, you know.
- 5:17SPEAKER_03: That's that's that's hot, spicy romance.
- 5:19SPEAKER_03: I don't do that.
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna like reading those books.
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: I get convicted reading those books.
- 5:23SPEAKER_03: So, like uh for example, um we uh I'm part of this uh community on Facebook.
- 5:29SPEAKER_03: What we do is read each other's work, and um they and then we will do a review on Amazon.
- 5:36SPEAKER_03: So we will you know to to help support each other.
- 5:39SPEAKER_03: We'll buy their book, we'll read it, and then we'll put post a review on Amazon, and then we'll like pluck a proof of purchase, and we'll post we'll post a review that we did online.
- 5:50SPEAKER_03: However, I came across this book, it was uh it was a good book.
- 5:54SPEAKER_03: I'm getting wrong, not not like a good book per se, but um the writing was excellent, the storyline was great.
- 6:02SPEAKER_03: However, it was just too spicy for me.
- 6:05SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, and I didn't even finish it.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: And I've I've never did a review, uh DNF, you know, and I was like, dang it, I don't wanna I don't wanna DNF her book uh because she's actually a good writer, but uh I'm a DNF it because it's just too spicy for me.
- 6:26SPEAKER_03: You know, this is not my type of this is not my type of book that I like to read, and uh that I don't read, I just get convicted, it's just too much going on.
- 6:33SPEAKER_03: And um it was it was extreme, man.
- 6:35SPEAKER_03: They had some extreme sexual content in there, and I was like, I can't read this book.
- 6:39SPEAKER_03: And but I actually instead of me just posting DNF on it, I reached out to the author and I showed her my review before posting it, you know, because I was I was just thought that was more respectful.
- 6:53SPEAKER_03: And I was like, look, like this is my review for your book.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: I didn't finish it, but it's an excellent your style is excellent, the your concept is good, it's just too spicy for me, yeah.
- 7:05SPEAKER_03: But um, other than that, um yeah, so I was she was like, Why don't you just try indie?
- 7:12SPEAKER_03: Why don't you just go indie?
- 7:13SPEAKER_03: And um I was like, okay, so I did it, and then I started out with just like a test, and that was with the Chronicles, the omnibus, the Deacon's Chronicles, uh and it was a short story, only 15 pages, nothing crazy.
- 7:28SPEAKER_03: And that actual 15-page short story is I think it's like downloaded like 78.
- 7:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I it got like 78 in his first year for a short story, it was only 15 pages.
- 7:41SPEAKER_03: And me not knowing any illustrators, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't have any kind of knowledge of the industry or the the business of uh of writing, so I had to do an AI cover because I didn't have an illustrator.
- 7:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, uh the actually the illustrator that did my first book in 2022 because uh that's when I just did just to publish a book.
- 8:04SPEAKER_03: I was like, oh yeah, I published a book.
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: And he that's hard, I paid like six hundred dollars for that cover.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: And um, and he wasn't available for what I was trying to do with this one.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: So that's when I first learned about you know the AI um generating uh generating art.
- 8:25SPEAKER_03: I get that it's history after that.
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: That's when I got into a lot of flack, man.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: Um a lot of uh kickback with the you know the Facebook groups because many of the people.
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: Oh I've seen it.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: You and I are uh you and I are a part of a lot of the similar ones, and I've seen I've seen some stuff.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: Christian Christian creators sometimes can be haters.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: Um I've seen that heavy on the thing is um you taught me this.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: If you have a story with vision, it doesn't matter the hate.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: It matters what the story is and people will see it.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: I uh I've been using AI on my art, and you know, I use what's called a hybrid approach.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: Um and uh and that that's what I do.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: Um so the the hybrid approach is you use art, you draw it by hand, and then you know, you do AI background.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: That's what I've done.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: And then I got hated on because then AI went or I posted AI and they were like, oh, now you're doing full AI.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: So then I went to hand drawn for a few days and I got hated for uh going back to hand drawn.
- 9:52SPEAKER_03: So it's somebody gonna call me a coward because I told him seriously, yeah.
- 9:59SPEAKER_03: Because I told him that I was uh I said, no, man, I commissioned too.
- 10:02SPEAKER_03: So I commissioned illustrators and I do AI.
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: And this guy who was like, you know, he was the opposite side of the of the AI warriors.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: He was, you know, full AI.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: He was about the AI, and he was like, um I guess he was like, you know, sticking up for me in my uh my post sometimes.
- 10:20SPEAKER_03: And I mean, I I didn't really tell because sometimes I miss posts, man.
- 10:24SPEAKER_03: I I miss comments uh and I don't respond all the time.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: And I saw this guy and I was like, oh man, this guy's been, you know, but he was just rude with it, you know what I mean?
- 10:34SPEAKER_03: I'm like, hey man, you don't gotta be rude with it.
- 10:36SPEAKER_03: That's just oh yeah, it's not their thing, it's not their thing, you know.
- 10:38SPEAKER_03: You don't gotta go over here and tongue lash.
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: But he was and I was like, look, I commissioned too.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: I was like, I commissioned illustrators and I generate AI, uh, because I do want to support illustrators, but at the same time, I have a brand that I'm trying to put out, I have a story that I have to tell, and it's a lot, and I don't have enough money to just commission every single story or every piece of content that I put out because of a very visual world.
- 11:02SPEAKER_03: And he was like, You're a coward.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: Well, and the thing is, it would take uh it would take over a million dollars for you and I just to commission artists to do our characters because I think there's not a lot of people like you and I that put so much content out per day where other creators they slow down and do like once a month.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: You and I are always on there every day doing that.
- 11:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm gonna non-stop, man.
- 11:36SPEAKER_03: And it's just it's like it's like a compulsion, I guess.
- 11:41SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, compulsion, you know, I gotta do it, man.
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: I gotta put it out.
- 11:48SPEAKER_03: And oh yeah, uh, especially with the devotionals now.
- 11:51SPEAKER_03: And the devotionals, I probably just keep this, I keep the the same kind of avatar, and that's what I try to stick to the theme of the devotional, yeah of like what I'm trying to portray.
- 12:00SPEAKER_03: But my deacon verse, um, I go with the video adaptation, man, and and I do poetry too as well.
- 12:07SPEAKER_03: So poetry is probably my most authentic, uh excuse me.
- 12:11SPEAKER_03: It's my probably my most authentic work because um the the poems, the covers I just do myself.
- 12:17SPEAKER_03: I do those on um Canva.
- 12:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and it's really simple, just typography, uh simple background.
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: Uh there's no really illustration, so there's no point for me to have to you know generate any of that.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: I do all that just authentically.
- 12:31SPEAKER_03: So um my poetry is probably the most 100% authentic through and through.
- 12:37SPEAKER_03: Um, I even do my own edits.
- 12:39SPEAKER_03: Only thing that I get uh for um my poetry that's not me is my formatter.
- 12:46SPEAKER_03: I have my I'll have him format, but other than that, the poetry is through and through 100% me.
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: I hire I don't hire an editor, I don't do any of that, I do all that myself and my cover as well, because I think poetry is is something that I use to um I guess to relate whatever I'm going through, whether it's my faith as a as a man, as a husband, uh just as a man of God, and I want that to come through on the page, uh authentic through and through, because that's what the project is about.
- 13:23SPEAKER_03: That's why it's called Homes and Meditations of a Christian Brother.
- 13:27SPEAKER_03: And that's where I got my um pen name for that, which is CB rights.
- 13:32SPEAKER_03: This is Christian Brother Rights, you know, because I'm just uh another Christian brother, that's it.
- 13:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and that's how that's how I relate to that.
- 13:40SPEAKER_03: So my pen name, my non-fiction pen name is actually C B rights, you know, it's Christian Brother Rights.
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: So I'm just a Christian brother talking about the faith, you know, and T Rights is a god less.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, when I say like um you're always doing videos, you're always doing stuff on there, no matter what, rain or shine.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: You always have Deaconverse up, yeah.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: And there's there's all these uh posts, I'll never forget it.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: It says, Welcome to the Deaconverse.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: You always welcome the reader, yeah, to the Deaconverse.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: That is a unique way to grab a new reader because they're like, What is this?
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: What is this universe?
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: Who are these people?
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: You know, how do I get involved?
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: It's an interesting way to welcome new people.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: It just came out one day, like welcome to the deaconverse, you know.
- 14:40SPEAKER_03: And and I was like, you know, I'm just gonna tag that on everything because you know I am welcoming them into the deaconverse because it's a whole different universe, it's a different world, you know, and welcome to it.
- 14:50SPEAKER_03: You know, there's a lot, it's a lot of lore, it's a lot of characters, and it's a lot of thought put behind um this you know, these concepts, and they're they're biblical, you know.
- 15:02SPEAKER_03: So, I mean, just like my I have another one that it just got pinned to me.
- 15:07SPEAKER_03: They say, You always say glory to God.
- 15:09SPEAKER_03: I'm like, Yeah, glory to God, man.
- 15:11SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, glory to God, man.
- 15:14SPEAKER_03: You know, it's just because he gets all the move.
- 15:17SPEAKER_03: Why do you call it deaconverse?
- 15:19SPEAKER_03: There has to be a story behind that part.
- 15:21SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh.
- 15:22SPEAKER_03: So I am actually I was writing, and um I was like, I need to figure out a name for this book.
- 15:32SPEAKER_03: And I'm talking to this old guy, his name is Robert Warranton, and he's probably not here anymore.
- 15:37SPEAKER_03: You know, he was 70 at the time when I was talking to him, but um, and I was and he was reading, I was like reading him reading him my material, and this was like over this was in 2013, you know.
- 15:49SPEAKER_03: So he was like, Yeah, and I was like, I just don't know what to make it.
- 15:52SPEAKER_03: He's like, why don't you just call it deacons?
- 15:55SPEAKER_03: And I was like, that's actually a pretty good idea.
- 16:00SPEAKER_03: So I just call it deacons, and um, and instead of me focusing on one deacon, because I have so many characters in there that I just love, you know, I don't want to just use one, and I wanted to like um I wanted to explain all of their ministries, and I just noticed I just could not do that in one in just one book.
- 16:24SPEAKER_03: So it's a whole bunch of deacons and what they're going through and how they serve um the self-existent one, the God in my as God in my book, because that's just the translation of God, he's self-existent, he's self-sustained, he's he's the source.
- 16:40SPEAKER_03: So I just I just made uh him the his literal definition as the source of power in my book, the he's the self-existent one, and um these deacons, they all have unique ministries and backstories.
- 16:57SPEAKER_03: So I was like, you know what?
- 16:59SPEAKER_03: I'm just gonna call it the deacon verse because I wanted to be like I wanted to.
- 17:05SPEAKER_03: This is very ambitious, by the way.
- 17:07SPEAKER_03: I wanted it to be like Marvel or DC.
- 17:09SPEAKER_03: I wanted it, I wanted it to have a universe.
- 17:11SPEAKER_03: You know, you got the Spidey verse, and oh yeah, the Marvel verse, and I was like, so this is gonna be the Deaconverse, you know, this is the universe of the Deacons, and yeah, that's how that's how that came to be.
- 17:23SPEAKER_03: You know, I was just thinking about Marvel, you know, and and DC, you know, I was like, I want this to be like that because I thought it was cool.
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: That's the reason why I started writing it.
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: So I'm watching movies like Constantine and Matrix and like movie Priest and Oh yeah, uh, you know, and I'm like, man, these movies, these are so dope, man.
- 17:43SPEAKER_03: I was like, why can't Christians do something like this?
- 17:47SPEAKER_03: This is dope, like this is so cool, man.
- 17:49SPEAKER_03: I I can watch these I could binge wash this stuff all day.
- 17:52SPEAKER_03: And I just wanted to create it for myself, and and that's why I did.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: I was like, no, I'm just gonna do it from a Christian aspect, you know, a super funny because we have no alternative to Marvel and DC.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: Like Christians are like, uh, I'll give you an example the other day.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: Don't read that because it's you know woke, or don't read that because the character doesn't have standards.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: We have to set the standard for the industry right now, and the church doesn't have a say right now.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: They just go, oh well, you know, don't read that.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: Well, what do you read instead of that?
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: Or what movie do you watch instead of that?
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: Oh well, I really don't know.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: Just don't read that, stay away from it.
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: We don't have alternatives.
- 18:38SPEAKER_03: It's boring.
- 18:39SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna lie.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: Like I love my brothers and sisters, I love a faith, but our entertainment is boring.
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: Yes, absolutely.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: I love now, I'm gonna make it clear.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: I love Bible Man, I do, but I think we need the uh I was telling you yesterday I uh I really felt a calling for my hometown in Metford uh project called the Deliverer.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: And I'm gonna be posting it today, and it's about a man.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Uh, he puts on the helmet of faith.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: We look at helmet of faith from armor of God.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: Hey, Ephesians 6.
- 19:12SPEAKER_03: That's actually good.
- 19:13SPEAKER_03: I was like, that's actually good, man.
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: That's a good concept.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: And you know, he puts it on, and uh he can see who's saved and who isn't.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: He can see who's going to heaven or hell because it's salvation, that helmet of salvation and discernment.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: That is back to his father, that's it, it's a depth.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: So like I got inspired by seeing your stuff, going, okay, people really want to dig into spiritual maturity.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: When you read your stuff, it stands out from, and I'm not trying to heart on light Christian fiction, but let's be honest, there's a lot of fluff out there where they don't hit on hard topics.
- 20:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because honestly, um there's one of things that said that um look the Bible isn't safe and neither are my stories.
- 20:16SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 20:17SPEAKER_03: I mean, yeah, um, and uh another thing I tell people is like, look, God doesn't need my protection.
- 20:22SPEAKER_03: You know, I need his protection, I need his, you know.
- 20:25SPEAKER_03: So what I'm telling the scre the stories that I'm telling in the Deaconverse is um they they they say, Well, these are coming off a little uh a little dark.
- 20:36SPEAKER_03: It's like how so?
- 20:37SPEAKER_03: And he says, Well, the your character Abel, he is on a vengeance mission because his wife was murdered by a sect that practices you know dark magic, and instead of him following the protocol and the yellow tail because it was covered off the political game, he goes on a vengeful mission, and that's how he gets the name Gibber.
- 20:58SPEAKER_03: That's how they get the Gibber.
- 20:59SPEAKER_03: They get they get coined as that.
- 21:01SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, well, have you read church history lately?
- 21:06SPEAKER_03: Have you read the scriptures lately?
- 21:08SPEAKER_03: There is a lot of um there's a lot of darkness, there's darkness, there's corruption in there, and the the problem is is where Christians get a lot of flack for is they try to not talk about the stuff that we're shameful about, and that's fine.
- 21:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's fine.
- 21:29SPEAKER_03: However, if you don't let this next generation know, or this current generation know about where we've been, it's gonna repeat, you know.
- 21:37SPEAKER_03: And well, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's gonna repeat, man.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: And I mean, even if they did know, it's still gonna repeat.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: There's nothing new under the sun.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: It's all I got I got a lot of flack.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: If you see my stories, I'm very diverse.
- 21:50SPEAKER_03: Yes, and I got a lot of flack.
- 21:52SPEAKER_03: Tell me about that.
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, you told me about, yeah.
- 21:55SPEAKER_03: And well, you and they didn't want to publish you because of you had a yeah, a black man character.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 22:01SPEAKER_03: That's crazy.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: I have uh I have a story right now.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: It's I won't say the name of the publishing house, but they don't want to take it because the main character is black.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: He's a guy, he's a kid, he's 16, he's framed for something he didn't do.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: It's a demonic oppression because we look at racism and we see that that's a demonic oppression.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: And you know, how do you talk about that?
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: And so the story is, you know, he's framed, the cops are all, you know, white.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: And so he's in a situation where he's in trouble.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: And the one cop goes, you know, there's someone that that can help you.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: And he finds out that he's a superhero, that his dad was a superhero, he was adopted.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: His mother sacrifices a lot because she's a nurse at the hospital and she's one of the only black nurses.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: And so people look down on her because of that.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: They treat her as lesser.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: I feel like that's reality.
- 23:05SPEAKER_03: I mean it is reality, yeah.
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: And so, you know, he finds out that he's something else.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: He finds out that his mom is actually thousands of years old, and she actually was a siren.
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: She's a wife of a fallen angel who repented and turned away from her ex.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: Her ex wanted to create demons, she wants to hunt them, so she becomes a demon hunter, and she now trains her son Eli as a demon hunter.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: And I felt that was very powerful.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: And they went, Well, it is, and I love the concept.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: Let's just make him white.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: No, you just missed the entire point of why I did that.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: Literally, literally the entire point of why I did it.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: Or my favorite, the shield, Justin was here for this.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: God uh God laid it on my heart.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: This pastor, black pastor, Pentecostal, his wife is a reporter, she's killed in a hit and run.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, and the police don't care because she's black in a in a white neighborhood in Oregon, in uh the Portland area.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: And so he says, Someone care, and they're like, Yeah, not you know, I don't know what to do.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: So you show that without saying it.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: So he takes vengeance and he becomes a hero underground.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: So he dons a mask as a shield, you know, he does what he has to do.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: And uh anyway, the story goes, he actually finds out who killed her.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: It's a conspiracy because he has kids and he's a pastor and he's getting into vengeance, and pretty soon he has bruises showing up Sunday.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: It's it's brutal.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: And but then he comes face to face with the killer, and it's someone from his church, and it was an accident, he was drunk, and it was a hit and run, and you know, he says he's gonna kill him, he says he's gonna hunt him down, and then the kid answers of the person that killed his his uh wife, and it goes, Oh yeah, have a good day, we'll see you Sunday.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: And he has to forgive, he has to forgive because he realizes he has a family.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: So my point is these are stories that normal uh Christian fiction doesn't want to tell.
- 25:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: Um Torpedo Man, we had over two million views yesterday.
- 25:50SPEAKER_03: Um that's incredible right there.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: Um, we're doing uh the Bravest League of America.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: I may change it.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: It's a Justice League station in New York where we talk about spiritual warfare.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: You know, I I think that's important.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: So I see a lot of potential in how you're presenting your world.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: I do.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, it's just and when I write this stuff, man, it's not like I'm writing it to uh I'm about to be the the next Stan Lee.
- 26:29SPEAKER_03: It's like yeah, yeah, I'm just writing it because I enjoy uh I enjoy the world, and I like to tell um the Christian walk.
- 26:40SPEAKER_03: Everybody's Christian walk is complex, man.
- 26:42SPEAKER_03: Like every everybody's everybody's walk is it's not so upfront, straightforward, um, black and white.
- 26:48SPEAKER_03: I mean, that there's some times where it's like, you're a Christian and you did that, or this Christian, you think like that, or what this Christian struggles with that, and the Bible, like God does such a wonderful job because he's just wonderful.
- 27:04SPEAKER_03: He does a wonderful job as the testimonies that he's chosen his providence to be in the scriptures.
- 27:12SPEAKER_03: These are not perfect, these are not perfect people, these people are flawed, you know.
- 27:16SPEAKER_03: But God has like placed them in as heroes of the faith, you know.
- 27:21SPEAKER_03: Like these guys are the ones who stand out, these guys are the ones that are just really you know fighting a good fight.
- 27:28SPEAKER_03: If you read Fox's Martyrs, it's very dark.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: It is extremely dark, a historical um piece of like these saints who have you know died for their faith and what they had to go through, and um their testimonies are are incredible.
- 27:46SPEAKER_03: And my book nods to things like that, it nods to Fox's martyrs, uh it it um I mean Fox's book of martyrs, it nods to C.S.
- 27:56SPEAKER_03: Lewis screw tape letters.
- 27:58SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's nodding to all of these books that or historical accounts that people had the courage to actually tell their story, you know.
- 28:10SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 28:11SPEAKER_03: And that's what I'm nodding to through deacon verse.
- 28:13SPEAKER_03: Like a lot of these things, a lot of these concepts, uh, a lot of the stories, they're they're not from church history, bible, uh, biblical themes, biblical types, and that was what I was trying to get across in the scriptures.
- 28:29SPEAKER_03: I want to teach biblical theology, doctrinal words, the I want to teach church history because the whole Deacon Chronicles, that Gibber, Omnibus Ark, um is uh pretty much um, I was trying to paint the picture of uh when the Protestants were under severe pro uh pro uh persecution.
- 28:55SPEAKER_03: They were under severe persecution against the Catholic Church.
- 28:57SPEAKER_03: Uh they call it the dark times, and that's where I got the idea for you know the uh the Gibber.
- 29:05SPEAKER_03: Of course, the Gibber is comes from David, but the um the concept was came from the his the history of the persecution that Protestants were going through uh through the Catholic Church, and that's where I got the idea to kind of to write that, you know, about the vengeful husband and following his convictions, and he got persecuted by Yom.
- 29:29SPEAKER_03: And it was like a it was like a little type.
- 29:30SPEAKER_03: That's the idea that I got that from from the dark times of church history.
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: I think that's really cool that you're that you're showing that to an audience that doesn't even know it.
- 29:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they don't they don't know any of this unless I explain it.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, I mean, yeah.
- 29:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: So your characters, like, how long does it take you to do a post?
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: Uh depends on the kind of post I'm doing.
- 30:02SPEAKER_03: If it's like uh like for my uh the shepherd's entries, the one that I do like the the characters, yeah.
- 30:09SPEAKER_03: That doesn't take me too long because they uh I use that um I use the text to uh no, I use the voice to text tool.
- 30:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 30:21SPEAKER_03: So I'm actually talking it out.
- 30:23SPEAKER_03: So I'm talking about my character, and I'm actually talking about how I want it to sound, how I want to write out, and then I do a quick copy edit through you know the AI.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:34SPEAKER_03: And then I post it.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: But the videos is the one that's complex.
- 30:40SPEAKER_03: Okay, yeah.
- 30:41SPEAKER_03: The videos take a they I could a video can take me days, um, or hours.
- 30:47SPEAKER_03: It's never quick, it's never like hey, generate this.
- 30:50SPEAKER_03: Like I use I use um I use Claude for my coding so I can keep everything consistent.
- 30:58SPEAKER_03: Uh like a clause that I use for code.
- 31:01SPEAKER_03: And then um I use chat GPT to generate my storyboard.
- 31:07SPEAKER_03: But in order for me to do that, I need to take my commission illustrations that I I bought that I that I had other authors do, like Maya Kraft, she does some of my work.
- 31:17SPEAKER_03: Uh Muhammad, he does some of my work, and uh um Kaido Hoshino, he does some of my work too.
- 31:24SPEAKER_03: So I have like F three three to four illustrators that I commission for certain projects, and I put those commission uh projects that they do for me, you know, and I got their their permission to even do it, and they said, Yeah, it's yours, it's what you paid for it for.
- 31:39SPEAKER_03: And so I uh used those and I put those into my um my program, and then my program would lock in their character code so it stays consistent with how they look.
- 31:55SPEAKER_03: So when people say, Oh, you're stealing people's designs, like, no, I paid for these illustrations, I paid for these artists, I paid for these uh characters, I got them all uh designed through commissioned illustrators.
- 32:06SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm just locking their style so I can adapt them into video.
- 32:11SPEAKER_03: Uh, because one of my uh one of my goals is to start like a little small YouTube show.
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: Uh it doesn't need to be like on Netflix or anything like that, but it's a small five-minute like YouTube show that each one has episodes.
- 32:26SPEAKER_03: And I'm working with Mohammed to do that.
- 32:28SPEAKER_03: He's my video uh pretty much adapter, and so um or producer, however you want to lay it out.
- 32:37SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, it's a little ambitious, but uh that's our goal, and our goal is to do that with legacies.
- 32:43SPEAKER_03: So the one that you saw, uh the run running on the on the roof, sort of helicopter.
- 32:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so that's that's the um the series that I'm working with him on, and then I'm doing one myself through the um the Gibber, just we're just messing around, you know.
- 33:00SPEAKER_03: So I commissioned Muhammad to do my videos, like my cuts, my edits, and for the legacy series, and for the Gibber series, that's kind of just me uh messing around and getting to know how to cut and edit.
- 33:16SPEAKER_03: So before I do all that, uh I need those two things.
- 33:19SPEAKER_03: I need Claude so I can code it so I can keep everything consistent, and then I use Chat GPT with the commission illustrators, uh, illustration work, and then I generate my storyboard.
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: And so I generate the storyboard, and then of course, I um I isolate each one of those panels in that storyboard, and then I use grok to adapt them from either five seconds to ten seconds to 15 seconds, and then I use Cap Cut to do my edits.
- 33:47SPEAKER_03: So I place them on Cap Cut, and then I'm just editing it and cutting something here, cutting something here, or I'll edit something here, or I'll add a back uh some some music for the backdrop, or if some sound isn't hidden right, I'll go to cap and do Cap Cut's edits, I'll look for sounds and all that kind of stuff.
- 34:04SPEAKER_03: So uh making a video can take days or it can take hours.
- 34:11SPEAKER_03: I've never made a video in like 20 minutes.
- 34:14SPEAKER_03: I never just I never it's never been like, oh yeah, I made a video in 10 minutes.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: No, these videos are like, yeah, I gotta you gotta teach me sometime how to do it.
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: I I write so fast, man.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: Like I was I was pointed out last night where I was like, okay, we had fires in South Cal, and then we had flooding in Newport, and then we had uh another disaster in Texas.
- 34:41SPEAKER_01: So I was like, okay, I want to show these to you know show not only the heroes in that area helping, but we also want to show uh the folklore, we want to show faith in those hard times, and so I had to draw them last night by hand, and then I had to come up with the story at two o'clock in the morning.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: So I was like, yeah, let me get the pen and paper out.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: Let's see, let's figure out who these characters are.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, nope, that name's copyrighted.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: Can't use that one.
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: How about that one?
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: And you say deadlines for yourself?
- 35:18SPEAKER_03: Say that again.
- 35:20SPEAKER_03: Do you set deadlines for yourself or you just come out with it?
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: I just come out with it, yeah.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: So I just uh I got my pen and paper.
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: I don't write on computer, so like if someone accused me of AI, it's gonna be very hard because I write by hand literally everything.
- 35:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, oh actually, I think I got something here.
- 35:44SPEAKER_03: I guess let me show you something, check this out.
- 36:02SPEAKER_03: Okay, so for example, all right, so when people say that uh he generates his stuff, all that kind of stuff, and I'm like, okay, yeah, whatever.
- 36:14SPEAKER_03: Alright, so this is how old my writing stuff is.
- 36:17SPEAKER_03: Look uh now I'm about to show you some old writing.
- 36:21SPEAKER_03: Now, this is how old my writings are that I go into my archives, I just look, look at this.
- 36:29SPEAKER_01: Whoa.
- 36:34SPEAKER_03: Dude is like yeah, look, this is there's one right here, chapter three of five to go.
- 36:46SPEAKER_03: I'm like, look how old the paper is, bro.
- 36:48SPEAKER_03: It's it's transparent, it's lucid now.
- 36:52SPEAKER_01: Wow, that's what I do though.
- 36:55SPEAKER_01: That's what I do.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: That the I I leave it full and the page there's no space.
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: Like when I write, like last night, I was like, okay, I have to create these characters.
- 37:10SPEAKER_03: Like even my studies, man.
- 37:12SPEAKER_03: So when people tell me, like, these guys generating all this stuff, like, man, I I physically write my stuff down.
- 37:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, and yeah, uh so people can't tell me.
- 37:22SPEAKER_03: I was like, look, you can't tell me that man, and and when people say that, well, nobody writes that fast.
- 37:27SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, well, I do.
- 37:30SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 37:30SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, no, I do, I do on a good day.
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: On a good day, I'll write 200 pages.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: On a bad day, I'll be lucky if I get 20.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: But it it just depends.
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: Like, uh, the novel I'm writing right now, uh, I finished it in about what, two days, maybe three.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: Um, and it's about a hundred pages.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: It took me forever.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: Whereas on another project, it can be just bam that fast.
- 38:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's fast.
- 38:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, I mean, I can do a I can knock out a short story quick.
- 38:10SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 38:11SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 38:11SPEAKER_03: Especially with these new um, with these new um these new tools that they they uh they have given me, or they have like not with me, but they have like have that we have access to.
- 38:23SPEAKER_03: I cannot stories out like that.
- 38:26SPEAKER_03: And like me, it's just like I just need to get it down.
- 38:29SPEAKER_03: And so how I like tell a story is like I'll talk the story out, like I'll act my characters out and everything.
- 38:36SPEAKER_03: I'll act them out and I'll just clean it up later on, but I can get the whole story out and then like archive it.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: And then I act out everything I do before it goes on paper.
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: I have to it drives my wife nuts, but I actually have to act the entire thing out.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: I have to know the characters.
- 38:57SPEAKER_01: Like uh, I always write screenplays first and then novels second, so that I have it in my head as an episode and not a novel, which a lot of people are like, Oh, so you see a book as an episode, why I always have viewed it that way.
- 39:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, me too.
- 39:15SPEAKER_03: I see it as books.
- 39:15SPEAKER_03: Well, I mean, not books, I see it as movies when I write, I see it as movies, so that's why my prose isn't the best because I'm I'm I'm seeing it as like movies going on in my head, so I have to froze that out later.
- 39:30SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, because if you break it into TV shows, you know, I was doing a treatment the other day and uh I had to act it out ahead of time, and I was like, I have no idea what I'm gonna get, and then you know, boom, like I'm doing a Spider-Man series right now.
- 39:49SPEAKER_01: It's a new spider hero.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:53SPEAKER_01: And my great granddad, he helped uh create it, he helped create a few heroes, and I was like, how can I adapt what has been done before?
- 40:05SPEAKER_01: And so I prayed about it, and I was like, okay, all right, all right, I'm gonna act this out.
- 40:11SPEAKER_01: Had no idea where I was gonna go within five minutes.
- 40:13SPEAKER_01: I knew where I was gonna go.
- 40:15SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: And then it was like, okay, now I gotta jot it down.
- 40:19SPEAKER_03: Like Deliverer, I sat on it for two years.
- 40:23SPEAKER_03: Look, man, like I I like act out myself so much.
- 40:27SPEAKER_03: Like I even have a weapon that I play with, it's a kunai from Naruto.
- 40:32SPEAKER_03: You know, and I'll be like act acting it out, like acting out my choreography fight scenes or how I see it.
- 40:38SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 40:39SPEAKER_03: And then I actually like, okay, I got it.
- 40:42SPEAKER_03: This is what's gonna happen.
- 40:43SPEAKER_03: And then I jot it down, and um, but that's just that's the beauty behind writing fiction, man.
- 40:50SPEAKER_03: Like, like you said, like you, you know, you're acting it out, it's fun.
- 40:54SPEAKER_03: You know, I'm acting mine out, you know, I got my little kunai that I like with my little sores and all that kind of stuff.
- 40:59SPEAKER_03: Like, so I I I like to act it out, I like to live it out, and it just makes the process fun for me.
- 41:07SPEAKER_03: And then I spit it out and I archive it, and I come back to it later, and I say, okay, this is cool.
- 41:12SPEAKER_03: Let me apply this concept, or no, this is cool, let me take this scene and let me go deeper with it.
- 41:18SPEAKER_03: And because if I get the if I get like a creative little moment, I'll go right through the there and just start talking it out, talking it out, acting the characters out, like, and then he says such and such and such and such.
- 41:31SPEAKER_03: Then the the room gets dark, it gets heavy, and all of a sudden there's this pressure on his chest and things like that, and then she says she feels it, and then all that, so I'm talking it out on my phone, you know, and then I copy edit it and I archive it.
- 41:45SPEAKER_03: Wow, that's that's like my whole process, and then I'll like put I'll piece it all together and make a story, you know.
- 41:52SPEAKER_03: Or sometimes I'll do a whole short story right then and there in like 45 minutes and archive it later and then edit it, you know.
- 41:59SPEAKER_01: So the acting now, sometimes my acting can be like two hours because if it's a movie, it's like okay, well, I gotta figure out every scene, every action sequence, what characters do, the plot.
- 42:12SPEAKER_01: Whereas if it's a TV show, it'll be like a half hour acting it out, getting all the dialogue, and then you're good to go.
- 42:21SPEAKER_03: Man, that is beautiful for you to have that.
- 42:22SPEAKER_03: I just I don't have that those time, man.
- 42:25SPEAKER_03: Like when I'm writing, I'm like really squeezing it in.
- 42:27SPEAKER_03: I mean, I got my kids, like in like in like 15 or 10 minutes, I'm gonna have to shut this interview down so I get my daughter ready for school.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm a husband too, and a father, and I'm a full-time writer, thank God.
- 42:43SPEAKER_01: But you know, my 10-year-old, my 10-year-old also, uh Ryan, he's put out two books going on three.
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then uh my wife Amanda, she edits all my work.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: I have dyslexia, that's a big thing, and so uh she edits all my work, and uh she actually put out a book herself, Story House, it's a 400-pager, and yeah, you were telling about that.
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: That's incredible, man.
- 43:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and ambitious.
- 43:14SPEAKER_03: I could never okay.
- 43:15SPEAKER_03: I'll take that back.
- 43:16SPEAKER_03: Um, I could probably write those many pages.
- 43:19SPEAKER_03: It's just I'm such a to the point writer.
- 43:22SPEAKER_03: Uh I wrote a true novel and it just bored me to death.
- 43:25SPEAKER_03: And I was like, look, man, I like prose, but I like to get to it.
- 43:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 43:31SPEAKER_03: I like to get to it.
- 43:31SPEAKER_03: You know, let's let's let's get to it.
- 43:33SPEAKER_03: Like, what you know, uh like Stephen King, bless his soul.
- 43:36SPEAKER_03: But let me tell you, I read one of his books, man, it bored me to death.
- 43:40SPEAKER_03: Uh his movies are entertaining and and thrilling, but reading his books, I'm like, this guy, he can write, man.
- 43:46SPEAKER_03: His prose is amazing, but I don't care.
- 43:48SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm I don't care about how the paint drying on the wall reminds you of a flashback that takes me 15 pages in.
- 43:54SPEAKER_03: I don't care about that.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, as a writer, a lot of my Books are short because man, if you're telling an action drama, you want to get the audience just going, oh wow, oh wow.
- 44:11SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 44:12SPEAKER_03: Like it's like one of somebody wrote a review on one of my books, and there was like, let me tell you something.
- 44:17SPEAKER_03: This book is they're like this is action-packed.
- 44:20SPEAKER_03: Like uh uh it was this uh one of the she was a social media book reviewer, yeah.
- 44:26SPEAKER_03: Her name's Marie Campbell, and um so uh I was just starting, you know, like of course, I think she's like my first like reviewer that was on social media, and she was like, All right, I'll give it a shot, you know.
- 44:39SPEAKER_03: And she said that she didn't really think she'll get much out of it.
- 44:42SPEAKER_03: It's 15 pages, whatever.
- 44:44SPEAKER_03: And then her first review, I think it was like five stars.
- 44:48SPEAKER_03: I was like, whoa, because I was looking at I was looking at her reviews, and I was like, Man, sometimes she can be brutal.
- 44:52SPEAKER_03: Like she put D and F's on some books, like this one disappointed me.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: It could have been better, but I was just disappointed by this book.
- 44:58SPEAKER_03: Uh, I thought it had so much potential.
- 44:59SPEAKER_03: Just and I was like, Oh my gosh, she's gonna tear my book to shreds.
- 45:03SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, and then she like actually says, Hey, this book is actually said this story, short, impactful, fast packed, like it's action-packed, back to back.
- 45:14SPEAKER_03: And she's like, I'm actually gonna move on to the second one.
- 45:17SPEAKER_03: And she moved on to the second one, she got a second one, um, four and a half stars, and then I think she gave a third one, five stars, too.
- 45:25SPEAKER_03: And she was like, This little mini-series is action-packed.
- 45:29SPEAKER_03: She's like, I truly am shocked how much I enjoyed this story.
- 45:32SPEAKER_03: I enjoyed this little mini-series.
- 45:34SPEAKER_03: This is uh, he said, This is a good story, and she's like, Of course, you know, the pros can be tightened up a little bit, but concept-wise, she said, It's good, it's good.
- 45:43SPEAKER_03: And I was like, Man, this is my first reviews, you know.
- 45:46SPEAKER_03: And I posted I and you know what?
- 45:48SPEAKER_03: Uh, my friend Desmond, who I think you should have on the show, uh your show as well, he's amazing.
- 45:53SPEAKER_03: He's uh he's like us, he's a hybrid.
- 45:55SPEAKER_03: He uh commissioned illustrators, and uh, but his writing is just amazing, and um, yeah, he he's he's gonna go somewhere.
- 46:03SPEAKER_03: He's gonna go somewhere.
- 46:04SPEAKER_03: Somebody's gonna he's gonna go somewhere.
- 46:06SPEAKER_03: And um he said, um, and uh what what was I saying?
- 46:11SPEAKER_03: I just thought about Desert Man because he's like my he's my I call him he's my Sasuke.
- 46:15SPEAKER_03: I'm not ritual to his Sasuke.
- 46:17SPEAKER_03: I was like, man, I'm always like, man, this guy's always doing so much better.
- 46:20SPEAKER_03: I need to compete, like he's always doing good, always doing something.
- 46:24SPEAKER_03: And uh, but we're friends, we're great, we're good friends.
- 46:27SPEAKER_03: And um, so when he was telling me, like he posts his reviews, and I was like, Man, I don't post any of my reviews.
- 46:36SPEAKER_03: And I started to think like I should post my reviews, you know, because people were like, he's not gonna, this is not gonna have any.
- 46:42SPEAKER_03: This is this story is probably gonna be crapping.
- 46:44SPEAKER_03: But I have a lot of good reviews, you know, for an indie author who started from zero with zero audience and zero publishing, zero backing, all this kind of stuff.
- 46:54SPEAKER_03: And by the grace of God, now I got a a team, you know, pretty much.
- 46:59SPEAKER_03: I would have a deconverse team, uh, an illustrator.
- 47:01SPEAKER_03: And you and I are even talking about collabing on something, you know.
- 47:06SPEAKER_03: So it's like where God has brought me after a year is just a blessing.
- 47:12SPEAKER_03: And I I I would never have guessed that or assumed that I'd be here just a year later.
- 47:19SPEAKER_03: Uh a connection with Steve Stern, you know, he's oh yeah, he's willing to work with me, you know, and um for a nice price that I'm now looking into grants to see how I can come up with the funds to do so, but he's willing to work with me and do the illustrations.
- 47:34SPEAKER_03: And and you already saw I started doing a mock-up of a of a comic.
- 47:39SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, yeah, but you were like, How the hate you do this?
- 47:44SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, I mean, I'm uh I'm doing the same.
- 47:48SPEAKER_01: I uh I was doing a panel last night, and I was like, Oh my goodness, this is so much hard work, it's worth it.
- 47:55SPEAKER_01: But yeah, you know, uh it's a lot of passion.
- 47:59SPEAKER_01: Like people people don't understand um what goes into this.
- 48:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, man, it's fun, man.
- 48:08SPEAKER_03: Like, like it's it's it's expression, especially if you're telling a truth or uh or a moral theme.
- 48:19SPEAKER_03: It's like these stories matter, you know, not just to you, but somebody reading them can relate to it.
- 48:25SPEAKER_03: Every book has an audience, yeah.
- 48:27SPEAKER_03: You know, you just gotta find who your audience is.
- 48:30SPEAKER_03: And if you're trying to show right to the trend because you want money, then you know, all power to you.
- 48:36SPEAKER_03: But that's not why I write.
- 48:38SPEAKER_03: You know, I I write for a purpose.
- 48:40SPEAKER_03: You know, uh I I guess you I'm a selfish writer, you know.
- 48:43SPEAKER_03: I'm writing because it's fun for me to do this.
- 48:47SPEAKER_03: This is my this is my outlet.
- 48:50SPEAKER_03: And if you don't like it, what I'm writing, you know, kick rocks.
- 48:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's pretty much that.
- 48:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's that's how I feel.
- 48:58SPEAKER_03: So I'm I'm a selfish writer to to to that extent.
- 49:02SPEAKER_03: But um, um to the audience that I may have, you know, like they like this Christian fiction atmosphere, they I mean fantasy, they like this, uh like my devotionals and and the poetry and things like that.
- 49:16SPEAKER_03: You know, that's who I'm trying to reach.
- 49:18SPEAKER_03: If you don't like it, then it's not for you.
- 49:20SPEAKER_03: Then you're not you're not the one to reach.
- 49:22SPEAKER_03: I'm not doing this to be rich.
- 49:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, I would love to do it full time, however, um being rich is not is not a goal of mine.
- 49:31SPEAKER_03: You know, well the goal of mine is to write full time so I can do ministry full-time.
- 49:35SPEAKER_03: Like that's that's the point of of my stories.
- 49:38SPEAKER_03: My stories are ministry, so they're teaching biblical principles, they're teaching Christian living, they're teaching the the Christian struggle, um, the meditations and the glory of God and things like that.
- 49:51SPEAKER_03: That's the point of why I write.
- 49:53SPEAKER_03: And so if people don't like that, then I'm like, hey, then well, it's not for you.
- 49:58SPEAKER_03: You know, I'm not gonna sit here and cry, oh, because uh I lost you because uh I turned you off with me bringing in biblical themes and talking about Christian character and and things like that.
- 50:08SPEAKER_03: That's that's a personal problem.
- 50:10SPEAKER_03: That's I'm not writing for you, I'm writing for the people who want this.
- 50:15SPEAKER_01: That's what I'm writing for.
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's why I write to uh mythicals taking some beating because they're like because it was secular for a while, and I was like, no, no, I'm I'm walking that back, God told me.
- 50:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like gotta do it.
- 50:32SPEAKER_01: Gotta do it.
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna lose my audience.
- 50:35SPEAKER_01: It I lost it first and then it tripled.
- 50:38SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 50:39SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 50:41SPEAKER_01: You know, it's like, oh well, I'm reaching people that are secular and I'm teaching them about the faith, and that it just it's worth it.
- 50:50SPEAKER_01: It's worth it.
- 50:51SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's the whole point of the gift.
- 50:53SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 50:54SPEAKER_03: Our gifts are to do that, to edify the church, not the world.
- 50:58SPEAKER_03: Like, what happened?
- 50:59SPEAKER_03: No, you you you uh told them the truth, lost the crowd, lost the secular crowd, but then it looked at tripled now.
- 51:06SPEAKER_03: But um, I one thing the probably one of the very few things one of these celebrities said, I think it was Kim Kardashian, um, I think she said uh all uh I think she said all attention is good attention, like even if it's bad.
- 51:25SPEAKER_03: So I was like, that woman sounds nuts.
- 51:28SPEAKER_03: But she made a point because the controversy that I got in the backlash that I got by generating my um uh my my covers with AI, and I'm going back and forth with them, you know, talking to them about, you know uh the arguments that they have.
- 51:47SPEAKER_03: Like I'm not stealing, these are commission, these are my concepts for one.
- 51:50SPEAKER_03: For two, these are commissioned illustrated um arts that I'm adapting myself with AI as I got their attention.
- 51:57SPEAKER_03: And and three, uh, these are my books, these are my stories that I'm writing.
- 52:01SPEAKER_03: I'm not generating these stories, and I actually have proof like I was showing you, I even showed you some receipts right now.
- 52:06SPEAKER_03: Like I have a whole archive of handwritten stories.
- 52:11SPEAKER_03: Okay, so I'm not generating my stories.
- 52:14SPEAKER_03: I use the tools that that's uh available to us to get them out, but they're mine.
- 52:20SPEAKER_03: You know, I wrote this, I didn't generate this.
- 52:23SPEAKER_03: Uh or uh or they're talking about, well, this is crap, nobody's gonna read it.
- 52:29SPEAKER_03: And I'm going back and forth on with logic.
- 52:31SPEAKER_03: Like, okay, well, you're saying this, but where is this?
- 52:34SPEAKER_03: You know, point it out.
- 52:35SPEAKER_03: Who said that I'm stealing?
- 52:37SPEAKER_03: If I'm stealing from somebody, point the person that I'm stealing from, you know, or and then I'll give them like my artists, like my actual artists, like I'll give them his name so they can actually look them up and they would, and they've still back up uh talk crap, but my views were shooting up because I'm going back and forth with a whole thread, like me against uh hundreds of people.
- 52:58SPEAKER_03: He knows oh yeah, I mean so I think Kim was right in that sense.
- 53:02SPEAKER_03: Like that bad uh that bad attention is what got people looking at the Deacon Birds, like, okay, what is this deacon verse?
- 53:10SPEAKER_03: Who is this guy?
- 53:11SPEAKER_03: And what is he talking about?
- 53:12SPEAKER_03: And he's making some good points in this thread, and sometimes it's just comical because I'll be really sarcastic.
- 53:18SPEAKER_01: Oh, I've seen a lot of haters on you, but I've had a lot of haters too, and it's like, okay, well, you know, you can hate, and it it doesn't have to be for you.
- 53:29SPEAKER_01: You can turn the page, you can yeah, you can read something else, you don't have to read what we write, yeah.
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: Or or or just block me.
- 53:37SPEAKER_03: Is it really like just block me?
- 53:39SPEAKER_03: And then I just started doing it myself because I just saw these trolls were doing it to get their views up, you know.
- 53:46SPEAKER_03: And then so what I so what I started doing was I was like, I just started blocking them.
- 53:50SPEAKER_03: I was like, I'm blocking these guys, I'm not gonna sit here and go back and forth.
- 53:54SPEAKER_03: I got way too much that I gotta do to be going back and forth with these trolls and this thread for hours.
- 53:58SPEAKER_03: Um, I got stuff I gotta do.
- 54:00SPEAKER_03: And I just started blocking them, man.
- 54:02SPEAKER_03: I was like, uh block.
- 54:03SPEAKER_03: Oh, you got something like okay, blocked.
- 54:05SPEAKER_03: Don't worry about it.
- 54:05SPEAKER_03: Let me help you not see my content, block.
- 54:10SPEAKER_01: It works though, right?
- 54:11SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, it works.
- 54:12SPEAKER_03: I mean, my views are still good, you know.
- 54:15SPEAKER_03: I mean, like, for example, if I just do two posts a day, uh, and this isn't really a lot of views, but for an organic author that's indie, um, I I can generate like 1,400 views by just doing two posts.
- 54:31SPEAKER_03: And if I do three posts, 2,500, 2,000 plus.
- 54:36SPEAKER_03: You know, I'll do a devotional, one of original content, I'll probably do a reflection.
- 54:41SPEAKER_03: But if I go crazy and start posting all day, yeah, I can reach like thousands of views, five to six thousand, seven thousand views in one day, you know.
- 54:50SPEAKER_03: But I needed to start separating my time.
- 54:53SPEAKER_03: I was like, look, I can't be on social media all the time when I have my my own work to have to produce, you know, then I gotta go to work for nine hours, then drive back home and to work.
- 55:05SPEAKER_03: That's three hours, that's a turnaround.
- 55:08SPEAKER_03: So, like, I barely get time to write, so I'm always squeezing it in, you know.
- 55:13SPEAKER_03: If I was a full-time writer, David, I'd be like, he put out hundreds of stories uh a month.
- 55:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 55:19SPEAKER_01: Well, people ask me, they're like, How do you do that?
- 55:23SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm full-time, it's what I do, and they're like, Oh, there's no way that you can spit out a hundred parts on Facebook in one day.
- 55:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, you're not me.
- 55:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, really, everybody's different.
- 55:38SPEAKER_03: So I can I'm always putting out Shepherd injuries, you know.
- 55:42SPEAKER_03: I mean, and this lore for my it's this lore.
- 55:45SPEAKER_03: My lore is so thick, I can I can put out a post every day of real original content and material and never run out and never run out.
- 55:57SPEAKER_03: I can relate, I can relate.
- 55:59SPEAKER_01: I'm always doing that and like uh expanding like the deliverer.
- 56:05SPEAKER_01: I'm actually uh I call it canonizing.
- 56:08SPEAKER_01: I'm canonizing one of my old stories I wrote at six, and then I'm gonna republish that novel because I wrote it at six, right?
- 56:16SPEAKER_01: Some published it with the church, so we're gonna publish that, and that's gonna be canon to the story.
- 56:22SPEAKER_01: So you're gonna get to read that novel in a bookstore, but also the Facebook is gonna tie to it.
- 56:30SPEAKER_03: I didn't you said you're gonna run out a bookstore, didn't you?
- 56:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm gonna be running a bookstore, yep.
- 56:36SPEAKER_03: That is awesome.
- 56:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I gotta send you my stuff, man.
- 56:41SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 56:41SPEAKER_01: I think it's so I think it's a calling to especially with the mythical world, I want to reach every country, every nation for God and honor their culture, honor their folklore, their heritage, but also teach within that.
- 57:00SPEAKER_03: I actually I actually have a uh something to bring up to you.
- 57:05SPEAKER_03: Um so me and Desmond, because I went to the book festival in Las Vegas, and there is there was no booth for Christian fiction at all there.
- 57:15SPEAKER_03: There was no booth for Christian nonfiction at all there, and I was like, this is a little disappointing, you know, and um and I think there are people there that are really would be into it.
- 57:25SPEAKER_03: So I what I wanted to do was say, you know, what if we like saved up for a couple years and got a booth for the next Las Vegas festival?
- 57:32SPEAKER_03: Because it's a big festival out here, it's yeah, it's been going on for 60 years, 60 years plus out here.
- 57:38SPEAKER_03: It's a big deal.
- 57:39SPEAKER_03: They shut off a part of the downtown um strip out here for it, like closed off blocks.
- 57:45SPEAKER_03: And it was just an incredible experience.
- 57:48SPEAKER_03: That's where I met Steve.
- 57:49SPEAKER_03: And I was like, you know what?
- 57:51SPEAKER_03: What if we like saved up and started our own booth?
- 57:53SPEAKER_03: You know, with the books that you have, the books that I have, the books that Desmond are developing, and we get some other authors in there.
- 58:00SPEAKER_03: Like, how about we just set up a booth, a Christian fiction booth, and see how we just see how it does, you know what I mean?
- 58:07SPEAKER_03: And I think that uh we were talking about looking into and doing it, you know.
- 58:13SPEAKER_03: I was wondering, like, you would you want to be a part of that?
- 58:15SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, definitely.
- 58:17SPEAKER_03: Um we can look we can look into it and see the next Las Vegas festival.
- 58:21SPEAKER_03: It probably won't be in 2027, maybe 2028 or something like that.
- 58:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's 2028, yeah.
- 58:25SPEAKER_01: Because I have uh I have a Las Vegas series I kind of kept under wraps, but I've been thinking about doing a bit.
- 58:32SPEAKER_01: I have a Nevada series, put it that way.
- 58:36SPEAKER_03: Man, you know, and uh it's just it's slept on out here, and I actually Christian is just like the Christian culture is kind of taking over, even in the hip-hop scene, you know what I mean?
- 58:48SPEAKER_03: Like the like all my music I put in there that you hear, like in my videos, it's all Christian hip-hop.
- 58:54SPEAKER_03: Those are Christian artists.
- 58:57SPEAKER_01: Oh, there's a lot going on, like faith is everywhere now.
- 59:01SPEAKER_03: And yeah, Christian is like Christianity's taking over, and it's a scary thing because that's how it kind of got um well, not kind of, that's how the corruption came in, yeah.
- 59:13SPEAKER_03: Uh back in the day when Constantine made it a state religion, and that's when it started getting corrupted.
- 59:21SPEAKER_03: So that's one thing that I'm kind of like, okay, now this is what happened in church history, like it got so common and so popular and so like normal that corruption crept in.
- 59:34SPEAKER_03: And one of the things that I don't want to do is corrupt it.
- 59:37SPEAKER_03: Like, like, hey, Christian, like the Christian, the Christian culture is starting to pop, and uh not just through poetry, now it's in fiction fantasies, it's in hip hop, it's in country, it's in rock.
- 59:50SPEAKER_03: Um, now the movies are starting to get big.
- 59:52SPEAKER_03: I mean, angel studios is is getting bigger than uh anybody ever thought because they're they're going outside the scope of like the traditional uh Christian movies.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_03: Okay so the Christian um culture is blowing up, you know, and it's doing it, it's doing it passively.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_03: Like people don't even know they're watching a Christian moon or or or listening to Christian music until they actually listen to it or somebody explains it, and it's like, huh.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_01: And um developing uh I'm developing a TV series right now called Lost Angels, and it's in Los Angeles, it's in mythical, but it reads like a secular series until you learn that everything in my universe is Christian.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_01: It doesn't mean I'm preaching to you though, it means you know, every mythical creature existed in the Bible, and I have an origin think of X-Men, where there was an event during the Tower of Babel, that's how they got their powers.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_03: And so if you have a biblical premise for you know that, and instead of X-Men evolution, it's biblical premise replacing that you can hit every culture, absolutely, and that takes skill, and people don't understand like the skill that that takes to come up with a Christian story that's not preaching, you know.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_03: That that's a that's that's very difficult to do, you know, because I have to catch myself not giving a sermon whenever I'm writing, you know, and like how do I get this across without coming off as a an exposition preacher?
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_03: Because now I minister on Wednesdays and on Sundays, so sometimes I find myself being preachy in my stories, and I got like, okay, wait a minute.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_01: If I got back up, yeah.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I I want to entertain the people through biblical things.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_03: I don't want to preach to them.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_03: I could do that, I do that through my nonfiction, you know.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_03: I minister, uh, that's that's when you can come off preachy, you know what I mean.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_03: But when you're writing fiction, especially supernatural fiction or fantasy fiction, people don't want a sermon, they want to be, they want that stuff to be told to them unconsciously, yeah.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_03: So the point where they can actually look back and reflect, like, wow, that reminds me of this.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_03: That reminds rather than you just telling it to them.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_03: I mean that take that's an art, and that's an art in itself, you know.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_03: Uh oh, that's my alarm.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_03: Dave, we gotta do this again.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_03: I gotta get, I gotta get my daughter ready for something.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, you're good, you're good.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_01: Thank you for you know coming on.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no problem, man.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_03: And you know, I just I could talk forever about this stuff.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_03: You know, but we have to definitely um either do another one where we can talk, you know what we should do?
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_03: We should come up with the collab live, like what we're gonna do.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_03: Like, well, yeah, I know, right?
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_03: We should do a live one so people can actually see it in action.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_03: So they're not like, uh, these guys are just BSing us.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_03: Like, no, we're not.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_03: We're we're telling you this is how we write, this is how we come up with our creative craft, and it it's it's faster than they think.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_03: When your mind moves like that, these concepts come so fast, and the story just comes.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_03: And as it comes, we're not sitting here debating, like, huh, should I write it?
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_03: Should I not write it?
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_03: Should I do it?
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_03: No, we just do it.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_01: I've been I've been sitting on uh two weeks ago.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_01: I came up with the concept and I was like, no, no, no, not yet.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_01: And today I'm like, oh, I better get it done.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I better just do it.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna do it.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_01: No matter how ridiculous it is, I I put it out because like I don't think it's my best, but maybe someone else will get touched by it.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_03: Exactly, man.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_03: I I'll let the readers decide that, you know, and I just put it out.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_03: I don't wanna I don't wanna have a writing crew of regrets.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_03: Like, oh, I should have did it.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_03: You know, I mean I'm I'm gonna do it, and then if it flops, it flops.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_03: Oh well, it wasn't meant to be.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_03: So I don't care about you know my name.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_03: It's not about my name, it's about the deaconverse.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_03: It's about the it's it's about the faith, it's a it's about the the the ministry.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_03: Uh I don't care about t rights, I don't care about C V rights or trail, I don't care about that.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_03: Like I care about the faith.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_03: I care about the deaconverse, and that's it.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_01: So how do uh how do listeners uh find your work?
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_03: Um they find it through Amazon or Facebook.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_03: Do you have a Facebook?
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_03: Or you can just you can just Google it.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_03: Like yeah, like yeah, you can just Google Deaconverse, man, and then all my stuff will pop up.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_03: Like that was that wasn't even planned.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_03: You know, somebody just told me one day, like hey man, I found you on Google, and I was like, What?
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_03: And then I looked it up, the page is just filled with Deaconverse, Deacon Chronicles, and I was like, hey man, I have an SEO.

- 1:05:24SPEAKER_03: And I did it on accident, actually, because like I was like, you know what?

- 1:05:30SPEAKER_03: That was uh, you know, with deacons and things like that.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_03: I mean, you're you're competing with the church, you're gonna lose every time when it comes to Google.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_03: So I I I spelled it with improper grammar on purpose, so I took out the apostrophes, I put Deacons Chronicles without the apostrophes, and then next thing you knew it, I owned the whole search.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_03: Oh I love that.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_03: So that was like my secret to like taking over my my search for Google.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_03: I just took out the apostrophes.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_03: It works, it works pretty well, yeah.
