- 0:29[SPEAKER_04]: Hi and welcome to this episode of Life on the Illinois Prairie.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_04]: I'm your host Wendy Fleending Dexter.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_04]: Today on this very cold winter day, we're taking a trip across the state line to visit a man that has a name so many people will recognize.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_04]: I'm so glad to have him joining us today.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_04]: Richard Goodall, winner of season 19, America's Got Talent.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_04]: and uh... i didn't know that ever be able to talk to you i had hoped that i would and at one time state and my husband stay see when they were recording something together stay see and dusty will talk about dusty matter four later say she said i asked they asked if he could get Richard on and i said don't you dare do that if i can't do it on my own merit no no no no no no no no no no
- 1:17[SPEAKER_04]: And I did, I finally, finally got you in your U.R.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_04]: We're Richard.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I know you were here and I know you were said you're work today, so give it a little background about yourself for people who may or may not know anything about you.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: I'm Richard Goodall.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_02]: I'm 56 years old.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, just a regular working class guy who got lucky enough to get a try out on a show and it went the whole same thing.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, but then working for the school corporation 24.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_02]: a little over 24 years now, uh, like a county school corporation, I started out at, uh, who's your prairie, went from there to Westbie Go Elementary, which is the admin building now, and then it went to Davis Park, and now I'm at Westbie Go Little School, been there for a couple of years.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_02]: And still there, and everybody thinks I'm all this rich and famous, whatever, and just like no, no, no.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is the same guy.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: I just got, I just got lucky to be on TV.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_02]: That's all.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_04]: Well, and the fact that my sister-in-law was a teacher and she said one of the things she told me a long time ago She said the most important person to become friends with into school is the janitor the custodian Because they can do things for you that nobody else can and I remember in my own.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, in my I remember in my case in my my grade school
- 2:44[SPEAKER_04]: I was a little uncomfortable farm girl going to school, but I loved my janitors and I remember all of them, they were just very kind, you know, you just look up to them, you know, they're doing hard work and, and so how is it that you ended up getting submitted, you're to take if you, I know that I've heard you like to sing to the kids and for the, for the faculty, how did that?
- 3:08[SPEAKER_04]: How did that come about?
- 3:10[SPEAKER_02]: Well, AGT don't necessarily like me to tell the true story about what happened, and I have many, many, many times.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_02]: So, in 2022, it was a different kind of year.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_02]: It was COVID had just, you know, kind of ended, and everybody was back in school, and so at the end of the school year in 22,
- 3:34[SPEAKER_02]: the teachers come up and they always ask me if I want to think something, it's usually at the fricking graduation or a talent show.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_02]: And so I said, yeah, I said, what do you guys want me saying like, and they said, well, you've picked this time, because normally it would be like, God bless the USA with Lee Greenwood.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so I just, you know, just for all the top of my head, and I said, I'm not, don't stop believing my journey never in a million years thinking that
- 4:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, synonymous with me and so that was on a Thursday afternoon.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_02]: So I sang it, a teaching assistant filmed it, put it on TikTok that night.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_02]: The next morning was up Friday morning and it was the last day of school before summer, you know, starts.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_02]: And but by between Thursday evening and Friday morning, it had a hundred thousand views.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_02]: by the end of the weekend it was over a million.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_02]: When it reached three million, Journey and Steve Perry, they commented on it.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_02]: And then I made slowly progressively one of the talent producers of ATT reached out.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_02]: They liked the show,
- 4:58[SPEAKER_02]: But for whatever reason, uh, talent producer reached out to me and said, hey, you want to be on the show.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, well, yeah, sure, you know, not thinking that anything would ever come of it.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and so, uh, I did, you got zoom calls, you got story calls, you got, you got a series of things that you have to do before you can be on the show.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_02]: So, long story short, I ended up getting dropped and that was season 18, so I ended up getting dropped and I was just like, so I just erased everybody's numbers off my phone.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, you know, broken hearted and I was just like, you know, I, you know, it is what it is, you know, if it, if it's in God's will, it'll happen, if it don't, it don't.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_02]: Well, at the end of season 18, I'm in by the name of how I mandal reposted me.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_02]: and said the caption on the video said needs to be on AGT.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_02]: Well, then a senior producer reached out.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: His name is John Peer, Peer, Monny, Peer, Peer, Bernie, I can't, I never can't pronounce it right.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, he reaches out and he says, Hey, do you want to be on the show?
- 6:03[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, Sir, I don't know what you're talking about.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_02]: I said, I've already did the Zoom calls and the story called.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_02]: See, I did it.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_02]: I said everything that he knew was to correct, you know, information.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_02]: He was like, I can't believe we dropped the ball on this and then too much later on.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_02]: Never been on a plane, never been Western Missouri, and I'm blind by the seed of my pants.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_02]: My first flight was from Indy to Denver and Denver to LA.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_02]: And so, and then the rest of the history.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_04]: You know, having it's one thing singing in an auditorium to people you know.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_04]: but to go from that to the environment, a scene in a pacific palisades auditory.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_04]: Oh my gosh, and with a live audience on those judges, Richard, how in the world, I mean, you know, you've, how in the world can you go from that?
- 7:00[SPEAKER_04]: My husband, Stacey and I sang on a local TV show on Channel 3, our local stations, there's one thing singing live when there's one cameraman and three people in the room.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_04]: That's one thing, but what you did, and oh my gosh, I mean, you know, when you're, and if it's not something that you, and not something that you were seeking out a lot of people that are on there, they've been going through this process all their lives trying to get there, that's when they're goal, they've watched it since they were kids, you know, and then just like, oh, tell me more.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's why it's so amazing to me because I, you know, something I didn't want it.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's not that I just want to win the whole thing.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's just, you stop and think.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I, I literally beat out people that have been, you know,
- 7:47[SPEAKER_02]: on stages their whole life.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_02]: People that have done nothing but their routine, their whole life.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_02]: And I just, you know, and don't give me wrong every morning when I work at the school from six to seven a.m., there's nobody in the building.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_02]: That's how I warmed up my voice every morning.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_02]: I'd be in that hallway sweep and I would just belt it out.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_02]: You know, there's nobody around.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_02]: I'm the only, I'm the person that wakes up the building.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_02]: So that was my that was my trading ground.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't, you know, being on a big stage or I, I did, I didn't, I didn't think of this the other day, you know how they say people in entertainment.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_02]: Well, he or she did this and they paid their dues.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I paid my dues.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_02]: I just paid them in a different kind of way.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I did it in the service of not just people, but I did all my vocals and warmups in the school in the morning and before anybody got there.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_02]: And so for me, when I walked walk through the doorway at the Pasadena Civic auditorium in Pasadena California, I was thinking to myself,
- 8:58[SPEAKER_02]: When I got on that plane and pushed me, she said, you go, you're going to win the whole thing on this like, all right, you know, and we haven't even seen a talent yet.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_02]: And she, she, she was always, she said, you're going to fly out there.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to win the whole thing.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm just like, you don't even know what the computation is.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_02]: How can you say that?
- 9:17[SPEAKER_02]: She's like, I just know you.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_02]: and she was right.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_02]: I, you know, I can't, I can't argue with with the woman, what she says that, but um, I just paid my dues in a different way.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, that's all, um, point blank.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: And there's still a lot of people that, you know, that don't don't think that I should
- 9:44[SPEAKER_02]: figure out, you know, that I was worthy, you know, I was worthy of when it takes more than just to me.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_02]: And this is just my thoughts.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_02]: But I honestly, I think it takes more than just talent.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_02]: You, you, you need to be a person for people.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_02]: You can't just, you know, go in there and say, well, I've got talent.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm going to do this.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm going to do that.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: You got, you got actually, I mean, whenever, you can ask anybody who's been to any of my concerts.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_02]: I am usually the first person to arrive and I'm usually the last person to leave because when somebody stands beside that stage and they want a autograph where they want a photo or they want a by t-shirt and they want me to sign it, my gauly, I am not leaving that auditorium that stage until every single person has, you know, their full
- 10:38[SPEAKER_02]: you know, what they came there to see.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_02]: And if they wanted to come to meet me and my golly, I'll stay until 2, 3, 4 in the morning until I get everybody in.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_02]: And then once everybody's gone, then it's my time.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_02]: I can clock out and go home.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_02]: So that's just the kind of person I am.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_02]: I think it takes more than just being talented.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_02]: I think you need to actually and I'm not saying the people in the past don't care.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just saying,
- 11:09[SPEAKER_02]: in an era that we're in right now.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: People need hope, people need somebody to cheer on and for whatever reason, season 19, I was that person, I was that person that people that rooted for, that cheered for, and to this day, I still don't get it, but I'm happy, I mean, and yeah.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_04]: those people that in that audience that saw you perform on America's Got Talent saw the same person that I that we saw perform later on after you had already one of course, but we saw you at our Colour Brewing Foreign Festival and you walked right but you walked right back to that.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_04]: Oh my gosh, you walked right past this, and I think you were probably, I don't know if you're at Evelyn was there, but it was somebody a family member or someone you were taking care of and, and you know, we could have reached out and touched you and I thought, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
- 12:10[SPEAKER_04]: And when I, you were, the way you were able to relate to the crowd and the kids in the crowd, and everybody, but people might, you said, you know, I'm seven, I'm 10 years older than you, almost, and for you to tell people, don't ever give up on your dreams and don't ever get a, you know, don't ever stop, don't stop believing.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_04]: And what a theme song you picked for yourself, but I do think that, you know,
- 12:35[SPEAKER_04]: that that's what people that's what they recognize in you is not just the every man thing it's just that you know you did you did have this wonderful opportunity you're not it hasn't changed you I don't know you how you were before no you know you pretty well yeah you know you know people I think when you when you win something like that people think you're going to be living at a big and big mansion and you know you're going to be driving a brand new Lexus tooling around town and things different it's not like
- 13:05[SPEAKER_02]: Our two vehicles, one of them is a brand new car.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_02]: It's a 2024 Buick on-core.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_02]: But it was given to me by the country star Walker Hayes.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_02]: He has a foundation.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what they do.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_02]: I had a POS car.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, it ran.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_02]: It was a decent car, but what I trusted to go miles and miles and miles and miles and probably not.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_02]: So he has this foundation and one of them was, you know, he gets new cars.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_02]: It's part of the foundation and so we've got that one that was given to us.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_02]: And then I was dried into work here at Tarho.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_02]: I was driving to work and I seen a truck on the side of the road and I had a poor
- 14:03[SPEAKER_02]: It's a 2016 not brand new, but it it's a beautiful truck and so I called it I got the number off the paper and I called it and I said hey can I test drive it and it was an older gentleman and he said yeah sure so after I got off work in 230 I pulled up into the driveway and went up to the door knocked in
- 14:30[SPEAKER_02]: He goes, what are you doing here?
- 14:33[SPEAKER_02]: You're a wretched girl and I'm like, yeah, I called you about your truck and he goes, you're in the guy and I'm like, yeah, so he gets on his phone.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_02]: He gets on his phone and I'm like, what's he doing now?
- 14:45[SPEAKER_02]: He says, I got to call my grandson.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_02]: He's grandson, he face times and his grandson gets on the phone.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_02]: his grandson, what to who's your prairie, the first school that I was at, and he goes, you would be the perfect person for my grandpa's truck, and I was like, you know, and he's a veteran.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_02]: Those are the two things that I'm passionate about.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_02]: I'm passionate about kids and veterans, where his hands is more on the abused children's side, you know, and we're still working on doing some charity stuff here in town.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_02]: Um, but yeah, when when they said that, I was just like, yeah, yeah, I really want this truck and it's a beautiful truck and I'm just, you know, so it just, it just, um, and I'm not getting all religious, but I'm a person of signs and, uh, and when he called his grandson, I just knew that, you know, that was the truck for me.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_02]: It was meant to be, uh, but there's been a lot of those in the past two, three years where,
- 15:47[SPEAKER_02]: You know, God's looked down and just said, okay, this is your moment.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, go get it young man and I would go and get it and I would, you know, reap the rewards and then, but there's still all kinds of so many wonderful stuff that are going on right now behind the scenes that I can't necessarily talk about.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_02]: So, it did possibly, at the end of this year,
- 16:17[SPEAKER_04]: Wow.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_04]: See that, and that's the thing, to me, too, is that you don't, you're not being selfish about this.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_04]: You're not saying, look at me.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_04]: Look what I did.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_04]: You're saying, you know, whatever entity, whether it be God or whatever, the universe aligning, gave you this opportunity, and you're not going to squander that you're saying, hey, I want to share this.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I definitely do.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, what a gift.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's just like the last time I was on the show, uh, sugar street got to go with me.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_02]: I have a Vegas band that does this kind of stuff all the time, but I wanted my local people to experience what I experienced.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_02]: And when they got on the plane to come home, I said, now guys, what do you think?
- 16:59[SPEAKER_02]: And they were like,
- 17:00[SPEAKER_02]: We get it.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's a lot and it is a lot.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, oh, when you go from, you know, not being known by anybody and then you walk into Walmart and you're taking pictures and and started on a grass and it just, uh, yeah, it's just the the only thing that touches the past few years for me is the word surreal and everything has just been absolutely surreal.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_04]: I can only imagine you know I dusty has been on here and I when I when I knew dusty had joined sugar street I said would you would you come I he was we're actually working on a song We're gonna be doing a couple songs over the summer last summer and he's he said well We have this opportunity.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_04]: We make it to be on AGT's finale and I said oh Well, then let's wait and have you on the podcast after you've had that experience and then you can tell how incredible that was
- 17:53[SPEAKER_04]: And I mean his description was just out of this world and even that, you know, he said it's just hard to describe
- 18:00[SPEAKER_04]: It's hard to put in words what it is and he has the stage time that you didn't have by being in some of these bands and doing, you know, performing for festivals and places, you know, so he's had a little bit of that, but, you know, certainly not to that extent.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_04]: So, yeah, one of the opportunities, you're there again, you know, you're not keeping it to yourself, you're showing it for people who may, you know, that would not have that opportunity otherwise.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_04]: And that's very generous of you, I think.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I don't know about all that, it's just, it's just, the thing is, I remember when I first got on the show and how, you know, I was just like, you know, I mean, you just like, like Charlie in the chocolate factory, you're just like, you know, you're looking at all this stuff.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_02]: And I was thinking, you know, you all right, you get to invite anybody you want this time.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, I want, I want to, and I wanted to see they are Charlie and a talk factory, you know, expressions.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_02]: And when they, and the thing is, I, I really didn't know that Neil Sean from Journey was going to join us on the end of Owen, when, when,
- 19:03[SPEAKER_02]: and when we found out how we found out actually is behind the drum kit on the stage it said Richard and Neil and so the drummer was like who's Neil and I'm like I had heard that me might might be coming and I was like well I told the drummer I said well that's Neil Sean well Jeremy Bates who's the guitar player he is right behind Neil Sean and he
- 19:32[SPEAKER_02]: Who's coming?
- 19:33[SPEAKER_02]: I said, Neil Shaw from Jersey, his face turned white and he was like, I'm going to be playing guitar behind Neil Shaw, and I go, yeah.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, sir.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, sir.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_02]: You all hurt.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_02]: And then Dusty, he was behind the keyboard when we got done practice and he came up and kissed me on the cheek and I'm like, dude, what are you doing?
- 19:57[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, I am never going to forget this.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_02]: So the bonds at the band and I had after that experience is just, you know, just a real.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, well, and now I saw that we talked briefly about this before we started recording about Dusty, Dusty taking the opportunity step away a little bit and you have a new gentleman coming on board.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_04]: If it's like talk about that for a bit.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_02]: Adam Brown.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_02]: He's not a very, very skilled keyboard player.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, wow.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_02]: And he's done a lot, and mostly his stuff has been from what I understand.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know everything about Adam.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_02]: I just met him once at the last practice that we were at, and but he was phenomenal.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_02]: ah, he did a lot of cruise ships and and and going all over the world.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he had been to Australia and in in great Britain and all those places that cruise ships go, he mainly did stuff with carable.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_02]: And so yeah, I mean great guy and he knows the stuff.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_04]: But you're you're you guys and dusty are still all super friends right this is not that not change anything that does Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
- 21:23[SPEAKER_02]: Honestly, I, because I already alluded to there's a bunch of stuff going on behind the scenes and I told you that it potentially at the end of this year could be bigger than when I was on the show if you can imagine that.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_02]: Not everybody is going to be able to go along with me on my journey.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_02]: Not everybody is going to be able to go along with you.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they have jobs.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_02]: They have family.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_02]: They have.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_02]: And so.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: touring and doing stuff.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's not for everybody.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody thinks it's, you know, it's great.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_02]: Well, yeah, it's great and wonderful when you're on stage and everything's put together.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_02]: But then you've got to set it up.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_02]: You got to tear it all down and it's a lot.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_02]: Just like being on a TV show, it's a lot.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot going on and you're, you're,
- 22:19[SPEAKER_02]: and going on until two, three, four in the morning.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_02]: And so, not everybody's gonna go, be able to go along with you.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_02]: And Dusty was just like, you know, dude, I've been, I need, I need to stop.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_02]: So I still like, oh, I get it, you know?
- 22:38[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't, I don't, I don't have any,
- 22:42[SPEAKER_02]: animosity or ill will.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I love dusty and his family.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_02]: I love everybody and everybody needs their, you know, healthy space and I get it, you know, but it's a lot to run and do and stuff and travel and it's a lot.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_02]: It takes a lot.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, I'm sure it does when you when you played at we mentioned room corn festival had you play had you been at the I'm called Arthur room corn festival when you were before you ever performed there.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_04]: You'd never been there really No, man.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_02]: What I remember about our color was rock home gardens.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_02]: That's that from a kid That's that's what I remember about our color so I'd never been to the brune corn festival.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_02]: No, and it was amazing
- 23:30[SPEAKER_02]: uh... somebody told me the last time they had a crowd that big was uh... gart was gart i think was gart brooks they said gart's right and so my parents minutes when it's been a few years back uh... but i i heard that they had had a crowd like that i'm in it i'm usually a vendor at that event and this year i had a i shouldn't have problems so i couldn't be there as a vendor so we went and i said let's go see this Richard good all guy and let's go see dusty and uh...
- 23:55[SPEAKER_04]: So we got to see you guys and like I said, we heard you, we went by as you were being interviewed on the stage.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_04]: They're on Main Street.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_04]: And I remember you saying, yeah, and about one of the things that stood out because we were just traveling by.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_04]: But you said there are so many fake profile pages on your Facebook account.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_04]: And I just looked before we came on here and I counted 40.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_02]: 40 fake fake fake Facebook accounts have your name on them and that that's insane it is it is and and that and the thing is you report one and five others pop back up and anybody who's uh... i i don't necessarily call myself famous but anybody who's got any kind of fame and it it it's not just me it's it's everyone that uh... that they was it was it around the world there was in the audience that
- 24:47[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, uh, yeah.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_02]: She doesn't pair someone.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_02]: And let me handle and let's compare someone.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, she doesn't write behind the bowling alley there.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, she does.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_02]: She has three years.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_04]: I saw that you guys are eating at the Paris family restaurant.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_04]: And we, we, they're occasionally.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_04]: And I thought, wow, that your four, you know, it must be mind boggling for your aunt too.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sure she's extremely proud.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, she's proud
- 25:16[SPEAKER_02]: So that's now he's going over the house for years and years and years.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm just ricky to her.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_04]: We you've mentioned rock on gardens.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_04]: I live about four miles from there now.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_04]: It's now it's now a drive through zoo, but I remember going there as a kid and there's a chicken.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_04]: I think there's a chicken that played tick-tack toe.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_04]: That's one of the things I used to like to see when I was a kid.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_04]: That was a, there was a big entertainment.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_04]: We were kids to go there.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_02]: I remember the bottle cap house.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I remember.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah, it was quite a place in its day, but you did you ever experience the drive through at Hardie's back point, I don't know how long you had to slip there, but at one time there was a Hardie's in Paris that had a pneumatic tube that delivered your food.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_04]: You didn't just drive up to the window and pick up your food at the window.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_04]: There was a pneumatic tube like a bank has, it sent your food out.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_04]: I didn't know if you'd ever remember that or not.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: I had not, I had not seen that.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: No, I've had an animal with no about it.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_04]: I bet she, I bet she would.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_04]: So about sort of we mentioned a little bit about Facebook social media.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_04]: When you do, you know, when you go from being pretty much anonymous, you're knowing by your friends and family and your community, but you did all of a sudden.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_04]: You know, this, this, it is fame that hits you and you have these people who can be the keyboard warriors and people who have nothing better doing than life than to.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_04]: you know, run somebody else down and it's, uh, it's a very, it's a very sad thing if you think about it, how lonely their lives must be.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_04]: So, um, how is, how did you adjust to that, going from, you know, uh, not having anything like that from your personal friends to, how does your head work with all that?
- 27:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's not, it's not been easy because I'm kind of a sensitive person anyway.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_02]: You would probably wouldn't guess it by looking at me, but it's taking a minute.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_02]: It's taking a minute to be six can, not.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_02]: with that being said, I don't want to be too thick skin, I mean, and I always want to go through and I always want to read the comments, I want to interact with people, I want to press a like and if it's something that warns me, say, and something to them, then I will, you know.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_02]: I always try to give people kind of word.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_02]: I always try to give people a reason to get up in the morning, you know, and so yeah, when you get, and it's like,
- 27:57[SPEAKER_02]: What?
- 27:59[SPEAKER_02]: 98% is all positive and then you got those that you're talking about the 2% that just, you know, they're not happy unless everybody else is unhappy and so it's it's it's been hard.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_02]: It's been rough.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, some of the comments are just absolutely sometimes just absolutely evil.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: And there are times when I'll make a post about it.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just like are you kidding me?
- 28:27[SPEAKER_02]: I mean,
- 28:27[SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, it's taken me, and I'm still, I won't say that on the 100% I mean, but it's taken me a while to understand that, you know, you can't let people drag you down to their level.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_02]: You just can't.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_02]: And the point is, just don't stop believing and keep pushing through and got to take care of the rest.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_04]: absolutely and there's there is we used to mention earlier about you know the the state of the world and there's so much negativity and I think that that's another reason that people that you're resonated with people so much is that you just you're you're you're you they sense your humility and your empathy with other people and that's just something that's so lacking in the in the world right now and
- 29:19[SPEAKER_04]: That's just so hard.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_04]: I tried.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_04]: I was a news junkie size a little girl.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, once I, you know, I grew up with, you know, the Kennedy assassination, all those things that followed those years, the Vietnam War, and I always listen to the news, but anymore, it's like, no, no, I can't because it would affect my sanity.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_04]: And there's not a lot of the right now anyway, my sanity.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_04]: So,
- 29:41[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, we just have to pick and choose what is going on as positive in the morning when I get up.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_02]: The first thing I do is I go to the coffee pot.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_02]: I make me a pot coffee and Angie and I will just before I get ready to go to work.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_02]: I will sit in the front room and I will take.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_02]: 30 minutes 30 minutes and I will watch national and local news.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_02]: I like to know what's going on in the weather and that's all I do 30 minutes of what's going on in this world and that's it.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_02]: Otherwise, I shut all that out.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_02]: I'll listen to a good audiobook.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_02]: I'll listen to music all day long, and I just, I want to know what's going on around me, but I don't want to know 12 hours a day.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's because I think people, I think some people,
- 30:35[SPEAKER_02]: need to back away from all this stuff and to say, you know, hey, enough enough, um, you will never ever hear me talk about politics.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_02]: I just, I won't.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_02]: Now religion somewhat, yes, I'm not that type of person that bashes people and tells them this that, you know, you can't do this and you can't do that.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody has to be in control of their own lives and
- 31:04[SPEAKER_02]: The way I think is is just that the only religion you're going to hear out of me is you know what I'm doing the best I can I don't have any expectations.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_02]: I will go in and I will do something for somebody and whatever comes out of it great and I just my my thing is is.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not in the clean business, I'm not in the entertainment business, I'm not in the music business, I'm in the hope business, right now everybody needs hope, and what better way than to sit and talk to people and sing a few tunes that everybody loves.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, for if you come to a concert, depending upon how long the concert is and how or two hours.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_02]: For those two hours, you're getting away from all the rest of this stuff.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_02]: Cause when you come to see me,
- 32:04[SPEAKER_02]: I promise you, when you walk away, you're going to walk away with, you know, okay, hey, that was a good concert and I'm not once that I think about, you know, the electric bill or what's going on in Minnesota or Texas or wherever, whatever's going on.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_02]: I just, there's enough of that out there, but I don't want to be a part of that.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_02]: I want to be in the hope business.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_04]: Well, that's brilliant.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_04]: I think that's it's heartfelt.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_04]: It's brilliant.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_04]: It's just, you know, music is such a great United of people.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_04]: It can bring people together and boy, if ever we needed it is right now.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_04]: There's some wonderful
- 32:47[SPEAKER_04]: You know, wonderful.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_04]: I follow a group on Facebook called Walk for Peace.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_04]: It's a Buddhist monks that are walking from Fort Worth, Texas to Washington, D.C. And it's very inspirational to me to watch them spread a message of peace and harmony.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_04]: And we just, that's so lacking.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_04]: And I just think music being what it is and uniting that with your, with your hope for hope for people.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_04]: You, you mentioned.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_04]: You mentioned Angie, can we talk about Angie, I know she's a private person, very private person, but did you mind?
- 33:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_04]: Tell me about.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_04]: Do you?
- 33:19[SPEAKER_02]: Is it a joke?
- 33:21[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm not going to tell her, I'm not going to tell her, private private information, but, you know, if there's something that I can answer, I'd be more than happy to absolutely.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_02]: Um, she told me when I was on the show that she said, I'm just going to get you through the show and then I'm going to be behind the scenes and she was true to her word.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_02]: We After that we got the prize money.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_02]: We bought them nice and monos on the house.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_02]: We did not go into debt.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_02]: we paid cash for it.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_02]: We put a new roof on it.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_02]: We paid the taxes and we're happy.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_02]: We're set.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_02]: So she was true to her words.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_02]: She does not want to be out there.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_02]: She supports me right here, you know, and anytime somebody makes a bad comment.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_02]: There are times when she gets mad and she's just let them have it.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_02]: So for the most part, she, yeah, she doesn't
- 34:12[SPEAKER_02]: she doesn't want to be in the spotlight the moonlight she just you know she's she's happy supporting me so and I love that you can't put a price on that
- 34:23[SPEAKER_04]: having somebody in your corner.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_04]: You cannot, especially the encadapulted into fame as you have been, you cannot put a price on having that steadying influence at your back.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_04]: That's a wonderful thing.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_04]: And speaking of steadying influences, most people, you've had two things come up in your life, besides AGT.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, one other thing besides that,
- 34:47[SPEAKER_04]: about your DNA test, would you mind sharing about that?
- 34:51[SPEAKER_04]: Because these things, separately, they're both astonishing.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_04]: And that was either one of them might blow somebody right off of their offer, their foundation, but you've had two of them.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_04]: So how about telling about this one?
- 35:05[SPEAKER_02]: So the first one is all-ange.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_02]: You wanted to hear about-ange?
- 35:09[SPEAKER_02]: Well, this is, this is the heart
- 35:15[SPEAKER_02]: I did not, I was adopted as a baby, as an infant.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_02]: Um, my mom kind of told me a few things about it, you know, she was very honest and open about it, what she knew.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so I just had the opinion, you know, me being a guy who I am, I'm like, you know, mom and dad gave me up and I have a mom and that's, you know, that's the way it is.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_02]: I just never was that.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_02]: that greatly curious, you know, I just, you know, I just had the mindset that, you know, for whatever reason, they, they had a reason to let me go, and that's okay, you know, I just didn't have the spirit of saying, thinking to myself, you know, I need to know these people, I just, you know, it is what it is to me.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_02]: So, and just always curious, and she's always asking me questions about this that and the other and, and I said, yeah, I was adopted and she's like, well, maybe you have some brothers and sisters out there.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, yeah, it's like, you know, it is what it is, you know, I don't, I don't, you know, and it's not that big of a deal to me.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_02]: I don't, I don't need to know.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_02]: She's like, well, I want to know, and I'm like, well, I don't want to know, I don't want to know, I don't want to know, I don't want to know, I don't want to know, I don't want to know, I don't want to know, I don't want to know, I don't want to know, I don't want to know, I don't want to know, I don't want to know, I don't want to know, I don't want to know, I don't
- 36:24[SPEAKER_02]: I said, do you got, you got loved ones, you got family, I said, you know, I don't I have family and it and that's okay.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_02]: I it's okay with me and she's like, you have family out there.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_02]: I know you do and I was like, you know, well, and she's like, well, that's a challenge to me and she's so she started looking, you know, and she found this thing.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_02]: It was called a, it's called a search angel.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_02]: And if you just have a little few tidbits of information about your life, whatever questions you have, then then this person can get on the computer and try to find, you know, whatever it is about you.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_02]: Well,
- 37:07[SPEAKER_02]: and you gave them the little bit of information that she had and this person got on the computer and it was just like family vomit I mean she just started while this is your sister and this is your brother and this is your sister and you got two sisters and a brother, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah and it's like oh she found them so
- 37:35[SPEAKER_02]: not the youngest sister.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_02]: The one that's just just under me.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_02]: So I got two sisters and a brother.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_02]: So it's on the oldest and then Veronica is my younger sister and then Bobby is next.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_02]: And Veronica is a cleaner in Moore'sville area.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_02]: Plankfield, Moore'sville area, and then Bobby, he is a chef at barbecue bourbon in Speedway, Indiana.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_02]: He's like a stone's throw away from the Speedway in the Apple's motor Speedway, and then the youngest sister, April, she lives in Arizona, and I just had a gig.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was back in November.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_02]: November December where I sang, uh, don't stop believing at a, uh, Phoenix suns game.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_02]: And she lived in Phoenix.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_02]: So it just worked out.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_02]: And so Bobby went out with me and we just had a little, you know, many Christmas, you know, hanging out.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_02]: It was, it wasn't December.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_02]: And so yeah.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_02]: And so she found them.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_02]: And then, and she had the ideas.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_02]: She's like, well, why don't you just do ancestry DNA?
- 38:45[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm
- 38:46[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, I mean, we already found my brothers and sisters, my brother and two sisters, so you know what what more is there, cuz mom and dad their mom and dad was dead, which is my mom, what I did know is that their dad was not my dad.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_02]: And so when we got on ancestry, I sent the little tube in and it was, you know, three or four weeks.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_02]: And then I got on the ancestry app and started looking through and then boom, it popped up.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_02]: And it said, father, biological father, 100% and I'm like,
- 39:23[SPEAKER_02]: some my dad is not their dad so I actually have a dad and lo and behold he is that army veteran he is a retired police canine cop detective wonderful man awesome awesome human being and as I call I mean he doesn't have any kids in his wife passed away
- 39:47[SPEAKER_02]: And he didn't have any kids and when I called him, I just, you know, the search angel found him, you know, after she found after we told her, you know, she, because she explained it to me because I was still in the thought process that my dad was there dad.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_02]: No honey, their dad is not your dad.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_02]: This is DNA.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's that's actual fact.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_02]: That man that you're looking at on that screen, that's your real dad.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, are you kidding?
- 40:24[SPEAKER_02]: She's like, no.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_02]: And so she's our looking him up and it was like family vomit again.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, she found out he was an detective and a veteran and retired canine cop and then she pulled up his address and his phone number and I was just like,
- 40:42[SPEAKER_02]: no better time than now was a really afternoon so i just called him was like is this humor ball and he's like yeah and i said well sir are you sitting down and i and he goes oh yeah and i go well i got i got some uh i got a string this is gonna be a strange phone call sir uh apparently uh apparently you're my father and uh it's boy
- 41:12[SPEAKER_02]: Huh, and so, and then I go, I, well, I was talking to him.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_02]: I said, uh, I said, well, if you want to know what I look like, uh, just just go on YouTube or or go to sing in janitor.com and he goes,
- 41:32[SPEAKER_02]: you're that Richard good all aren't you and I go yes or that's that's me and he goes I know exactly who you are I can believe my son is Richard good all but amazing man I spent the night with him you know and he spent the night here at the house and so he's a great guy great guy
- 41:52[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, wow, it looks to be like I see two forces here that have really been instrumental in your life.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_04]: You've had divine intervention, and you've had Angie intervention.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_04]: You've had your divine angels, and you've had your angel honor of Therahoo's, really.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_04]: Then walk to beside you all this time.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_04]: How amazing is that?
- 42:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, surreal.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_02]: That's the only word I can use.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_02]: It's surreal.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_04]: Wow.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_04]: Oh my goodness.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I know you have so many things coming up and I know there's there are things coming up that you can't talk about, but oh my goodness.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_04]: Richard, I just I cannot thank you enough for taking your time.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_04]: Is there anything else you'd like to talk about?
- 42:36[SPEAKER_04]: I know you're like collecting albums.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_04]: I notice you post your favorite albums.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_04]: That's become very very interesting to watch.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_04]: You post me.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_04]: You posted Toto and we had seen Toto at the Ryman theater down down in Nashville.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_04]: That was that was the last season.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_02]: I had seen him in 2024.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_02]: We had went to India and seen Toto and journey at the same time.
