- 3:40Speaker 1: LVR ECC deals with multiple power outages in the past week.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Travis Stacy of lv R e CC gives update praises
- 3:51Speaker 1: lineman efforts. Editor's note Travis Stacy, manager of Administrative and
- 3:58Speaker 1: Corporate Services for King Valley RICC, shared an update on Monday,
- 4:04Speaker 1: August the seventeenth regarding the Electric Cooperative's efforts to restore
- 4:09Speaker 1: power after widespread outages that resulted from multiple rounds severe
- 4:14Speaker 1: weather over the past week. As of this writing, on Tuesday,
- 4:18Speaker 1: August eighteenth, the cooperative reports only four active outages, impacting
- 4:24Speaker 1: nine Cooperative members. We at the Courier, along with mister Stacey,
- 4:29Speaker 1: would like to thank all linemen for their continued service.
- 4:34Speaker 1: A message from Licking Valley RICC. Licking Valley RICC wants
- 4:39Speaker 1: to say thank you to the members for their patients
- 4:42Speaker 1: during the storms of the past week. We were hit
- 4:45Speaker 1: last Tuesday, the August eleventh, resulting in over one thy
- 4:51Speaker 1: eight hundred members outages with full restoration by the end
- 4:56Speaker 1: of the day on Wednesday, August the twelfth. Later on
- 5:01Speaker 1: the same day, another rain in windstorm hit and already
- 5:05Speaker 1: wind blown right of way that resulted in another nine
- 5:09Speaker 1: hundred ninety nine members without power. Many were the same
- 5:14Speaker 1: members from the storm just hours before. Again, linemen, tired
- 5:19Speaker 1: and wet and missing their families, worked throughout the night
- 5:23Speaker 1: on Wednesday, August the twelfth to reduce those numbers to
- 5:27Speaker 1: just forty members the following morning. Those forty were restored
- 5:31Speaker 1: by the end of the day. The storm that hit
- 5:35Speaker 1: late on Sunday, augustus sixteenth and into Monday, August the seventeenth,
- 5:40Speaker 1: caused another two thousand members to be without power. Incredibly,
- 5:44Speaker 1: the lineman had those numbers down to one hundred and
- 5:47Speaker 1: eighty eight members by five thirty am Monday morning. Again,
- 5:52Speaker 1: the linemen worked all night in numerous counties on numerous outages.
- 5:58Speaker 1: They didn't stop. As of this statement at Monday three
- 6:02Speaker 1: point thirty pm, our outages are down to ten members,
- 6:06Speaker 1: with full intentions of only having one member outage by
- 6:10Speaker 1: the end of the day on Monday. I have said
- 6:14Speaker 1: it a million times, but I will say it again.
- 6:17Speaker 1: These linemen are resilient, dedicated, and focused on what has
- 6:22Speaker 1: to be done. There is no stop in these guys
- 6:26Speaker 1: until the last member is turned on. Don't get me wrong,
- 6:30Speaker 1: It takes all of us, but there is only a
- 6:33Speaker 1: certain breed of people that can stay out for the
- 6:36Speaker 1: extended hours these guys do, changing into dry clothes at
- 6:41Speaker 1: three am on the side of a road, going without
- 6:44Speaker 1: proper meals for days, living off whatever is in the
- 6:49Speaker 1: diner bucket at the time. This is a tough job
- 6:52Speaker 1: and only a few can handle, and we have some
- 6:55Speaker 1: of the best. Thank alignment, when you see one Stacey
- 7:01Speaker 1: Licking Valley, ricc our next article is a senior citizen.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Senior pardon me, Senior Center meals are cut to four
- 7:14Speaker 1: days a week. Cuts are due to reduce funding for
- 7:17Speaker 1: Gateway Area Development District Senior Nutrition Program Morehead, Kentucky, August
- 7:23Speaker 1: the seventeenth. On August eleventh, the Gateway Area Development District
- 7:29Speaker 1: GAD Board of Directors approved changes to the organization's Senior
- 7:34Speaker 1: center operations in response to a funding shortfall affecting the
- 7:39Speaker 1: Senior Nutrition program. The changes are intended to more responsible
- 7:45Speaker 1: aligne program expenditures with available funding, while preserving the long
- 7:50Speaker 1: term availability and stability of nutrition services for older adults
- 7:56Speaker 1: throughout the Gateway region, and also supporting the needs of
- 8:00Speaker 1: the staff who provide these important services. Beginning October first,
- 8:05Speaker 1: gad's regional kitchen will provide nutritionally qualified hot meals four
- 8:11Speaker 1: days per week Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesdays will
- 8:17Speaker 1: be designated as a non meal service day for gad's
- 8:21Speaker 1: congregate Nutrition program. Senior centers may continue to participate in
- 8:28Speaker 1: pot lucks or have other events sponsored or provided by
- 8:33Speaker 1: outside entities on Wednesdays as available. Operations of gad's home
- 8:39Speaker 1: delivered meals will remain unchanged for current participants. However, due
- 8:45Speaker 1: to the funding shortfall, GAD will not enroll new home
- 8:52Speaker 1: Delivered Meals participants until further notice. Individuals seeking home delivered
- 8:58Speaker 1: meal services will be PLA placed on a wait list
- 9:02Speaker 1: and be contacted as funding becomes available and enrollment can resume.
- 9:07Speaker 1: The updated schedule for the Morgan County Senior Center is
- 9:12Speaker 1: as follows Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at nine am
- 9:17Speaker 1: to three pm. Wednesday closed. GAD will continue to evaluate
- 9:22Speaker 1: funding availability and program needs as the fiscal year processes.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Our next article is Questions emerge after Monastery opening and
- 9:33Speaker 1: above that there is a beautiful picture of buildings out
- 9:40Speaker 1: in the countryside and it says this property on Morgan
- 9:44Speaker 1: Murphy Fork in Morgan County, a former wedding venue not
- 9:48Speaker 1: far from Hazel Green in Wolf County, was the site
- 9:51Speaker 1: of the official opening on May seventeenth of the Virgin
- 9:55Speaker 1: Mary getam Ded Bresina Monastery by the Ytrin Orthodox tay
- 10:04Speaker 1: Waddau Church Diocey of the United States in Canada. Photo
- 10:10Speaker 1: from Ytrin La Facebook page. Questions emerge after opening Monastery
- 10:18Speaker 1: Questions emerge after Monastery opening. Photos from May seventeenth opening
- 10:23Speaker 1: have circulated on social media in recent weeks. Orthodox Christian
- 10:28Speaker 1: denomination purchased Murphy Fork property in twenty twenty five by
- 10:33Speaker 1: Miranda M. Cantrell. Local residents have raised questions about the
- 10:39Speaker 1: origins and beliefs of an Orthodox Christian sect after photos
- 10:44Speaker 1: emerged from the opening of a monastery on Murphy Fork
- 10:48Speaker 1: of property that church leaders purchased last year. The Courier
- 10:52Speaker 1: initially reported on efforts of the Atarian Orthodox tay Waddau
- 10:59Speaker 1: Church in to establish a monastery locally July the tenth,
- 11:03Speaker 1: twenty twenty five, following a presentation from church leadership to
- 11:08Speaker 1: the Morgan County Fiscal Court. The following report includes a
- 11:13Speaker 1: revisiting of that fiscal court presentation, information regarding the purchase
- 11:18Speaker 1: of the Murphy Fort property and opening of the monastery,
- 11:22Speaker 1: and the brief overviews of the denomination's history and beliefs.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Church leaders appear at June twenty fourth, twenty twenty five
- 11:31Speaker 1: fiscal court meeting. During a June twenty fourth, twenty twenty
- 11:36Speaker 1: five meeting of the Morgan County Fiscal Court, several members
- 11:40Speaker 1: of the e Tron Orthodox taywah Dau Church Diocese of
- 11:46Speaker 1: the United States and Canada, headquartered in Washington, d C.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Were in attendance to introduce themselves to the community. Those
- 11:55Speaker 1: present included the Itrinnian Orthodox tay Taiwanda church father Quborn Bayon,
- 12:06Speaker 1: architect fickermarn Asras, real estate team leader Mussy Dawit Nugassi,
- 12:15Speaker 1: and youth leader Hannah Mussy Nugassi. Judge executive Jim Gaysey
- 12:22Speaker 1: asked the church father to give the invocation ahead of
- 12:25Speaker 1: the group's presentation, during which several members noted that they've
- 12:29Speaker 1: represented one of the oldest Christian denominations in the world
- 12:34Speaker 1: the belief. The brief overview of the sex origin can
- 12:39Speaker 1: be found on the Etron Orthodox Taiwan Doe Church Wikipedia page,
- 12:46Speaker 1: including information sourced from the Catholic Encyclopedia. According to the
- 12:51Speaker 1: Catholic Encyclopedia nineteen seventeen edition, article of the Heenashun, around
- 12:59Speaker 1: five hundred eight bishops within the patriarchs of the Alexandra,
- 13:04Speaker 1: Antioch and Jerusalem refused to accept two Nature's doctrine decreed
- 13:11Speaker 1: by the Council of Caledon in four hundred and fifty one,
- 13:16Speaker 1: thus separating themselves from the rest of Christianity. Since that time,
- 13:22Speaker 1: this separate Christian communion came to be known as Oriental Orthodoxy.
- 13:28Speaker 1: The Oriental Orthodox Churches, which today include the Coptic Orthodox
- 13:33Speaker 1: Church of Alexandria, the Armenian Apostolithic Church and the Syric
- 13:41Speaker 1: Orthodox Church and the Machloral Orthodox Syrian Church of India.
- 13:48Speaker 1: The Ethiopian Orthodox tay Wa Doh Church and the etron
- 13:55Speaker 1: Orthodox tay Wat Doe Church are referred to as non Chaladonian.
- 14:04Speaker 1: The group's primary spokesman, Joseph Emerson, told the court that
- 14:10Speaker 1: the diocese had identified for a monastic facility a facility
- 14:18Speaker 1: a local property, which the real estate team leader stated
- 14:21Speaker 1: was the former wedding venue on Murphy Fork. This is
- 14:25Speaker 1: a momentous time for us. As Moron said, for the
- 14:29Speaker 1: past two and a half years, we've been on a
- 14:31Speaker 1: journey trying to locate a monastery within the United States.
- 14:36Speaker 1: A few weeks ago, we came to Morgan County looking
- 14:39Speaker 1: at a property and met with Judge Executive Jim Gazey
- 14:43Speaker 1: and his office staff. That meeting really solidified for us
- 14:49Speaker 1: what Morgan County represented. We saw in the choices that
- 14:54Speaker 1: we were making that you have a deep root in Christ,
- 14:58Speaker 1: a community really deeply rooted in Christ and kindness in
- 15:02Speaker 1: a really deep history and mountains and flowing landscape that
- 15:06Speaker 1: connect you to nature. We are really excited and grateful
- 15:10Speaker 1: that we have been able to identify a property within
- 15:14Speaker 1: Morgan County. As Sirt Maron gave a brief history of
- 15:18Speaker 1: the ETN Orthodox Tewa dou Church before elaborating on his
- 15:24Speaker 1: diocese plans for the Morgan County monastery, which would be
- 15:29Speaker 1: the organization's first in the United States. Why a monastery
- 15:34Speaker 1: in Morgan County, Amaron asked, A monistic life is really
- 15:39Speaker 1: focused on nothing more than Jesus Christ. John the Baptist
- 15:44Speaker 1: as well as Christ went into the wilderness. The mountains
- 15:48Speaker 1: and valleys, etc. Represented a way of connecting to God.
- 15:53Speaker 1: For Christ, we have been on this journey for quite
- 15:57Speaker 1: a while. We have identified a property that we know
- 16:01Speaker 1: will represent our deep roots and connect those dots with
- 16:05Speaker 1: Morgan County. Additionally, as Maron stated that the group's hopes
- 16:10Speaker 1: to grow in the community and be part of Morgan County.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Our end goal is a prayer campus. As Moron said,
- 16:19Speaker 1: the monks will live in the monastery and really dedicate
- 16:23Speaker 1: their lives to loving and serving Christ through discipleship and
- 16:27Speaker 1: full time intercession with those who are in need. It's
- 16:32Speaker 1: a place of solitude and we take nature and incorporate
- 16:36Speaker 1: that into it. As Moron further noted that the focus
- 16:40Speaker 1: of the monastic life is prayer and the healing of
- 16:44Speaker 1: the soul and allowing for people to come into the
- 16:47Speaker 1: monastery for the spiritual cleansing amend the pressures of daily life.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Church leaders also identified indicated that the monastery residents would
- 16:59Speaker 1: be farming and cattle at the Murphy Fork site. Real
- 17:03Speaker 1: estate team leader Mussey dwat Nigasse concluded the presentation by
- 17:08Speaker 1: reiterating the group's desire to locate in Morgan County. The
- 17:13Speaker 1: jewel of eastern Kentucky is Morgan County. Nagaissey said, that
- 17:19Speaker 1: is what I heard about when I found this area.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I was so happy. The rolling hills, the trees, the flatland.
- 17:27Speaker 1: This is an amazing place. We just want to be
- 17:30Speaker 1: part of that. I just want to tell you thank
- 17:33Speaker 1: you very much. Purchase of property and opening of monastery,
- 17:40Speaker 1: as previously noted in the Courier into October twenty twenty five,
- 17:45Speaker 1: the Etrenine Orthodox Taywado Church Diocey of the United States
- 17:51Speaker 1: in Canada purchased the Morphy Murphy Fork property from CBK
- 17:57Speaker 1: Farms LLC and Barker Family Farms LLC for two million,
- 18:04Speaker 1: five hundred ninety thousand, four hundred dollars. Lynda Bradley, an
- 18:09Speaker 1: employee of the Judge Executive's office, told The Courier last
- 18:13Speaker 1: year that the wedding's venue previous owners were Pike County
- 18:18Speaker 1: natives who had relocated to Florida prior to the church
- 18:21Speaker 1: members June twenty twenty five presentation to the Fiscal Court.
- 18:27Speaker 1: The church diocese hosted the official opening of the monastery
- 18:31Speaker 1: in May twenty twenty five, with members from throughout the
- 18:35Speaker 1: United States and Canada attending service, as well as invited
- 18:40Speaker 1: guests Judge including Judge Executive Jim Gaysey and his wife Lisa.
- 18:46Speaker 1: In May nineteenth, Facebook posting from the event, which surfaced
- 18:50Speaker 1: on Facebook in recent weeks, church members were pictured in
- 18:54Speaker 1: ceremonial robes and hats, with women also wearing traditional headcover rings.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Church beliefs. The following is the etrenin Orthodox te Wadoh
- 19:08Speaker 1: Church creed as it appears on the Domination's website. Denomination's website.
- 19:15Speaker 1: We believe in One God, God, the Father, the pancreator Creator,
- 19:21Speaker 1: of heaven and earth, and of all things seen and unseen.
- 19:27Speaker 1: We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only begotten
- 19:31Speaker 1: Son of God, forgotten of the Father before all ages,
- 19:36Speaker 1: light of light, true God, of true God, begotten, not created,
- 19:43Speaker 1: of one essence with the Father by whom all things
- 19:47Speaker 1: were made, who for us men and for our salvation,
- 19:52Speaker 1: came down from heaven and was incarnate with the Holy
- 19:57Speaker 1: Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became man, And he
- 20:01Speaker 1: was crucified for us under conscious pilot suffered and was buried,
- 20:07Speaker 1: And on the third day he rose from the dead,
- 20:10Speaker 1: according to the scriptures, ascended into heaven. He sits at
- 20:15Speaker 1: the right hand of his Father. And he is coming
- 20:18Speaker 1: again in his glory to judge the living and the dead,
- 20:22Speaker 1: whose kingdom shall have no end. Yes, we believe in
- 20:27Speaker 1: the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who
- 20:30Speaker 1: proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son,
- 20:35Speaker 1: is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And
- 20:40Speaker 1: in one Holy Catholic and a apothclyph Church, we confess
- 20:47Speaker 1: one baptism for the remission of sins. We look for
- 20:51Speaker 1: the resurrection of the dead and the life of the
- 20:54Speaker 1: Age to Come. Amen. Church members further affirm their leaves
- 21:00Speaker 1: in Christ, Resurrection, the Holy Trinity, and the Bible, and
- 21:04Speaker 1: the Orthodox Church Statement of Faith, which can also be
- 21:08Speaker 1: read in full on their website. Additional information regarding the
- 21:16Speaker 1: Etron Orthodox tay Waha Dooh Churchedicee of the United States
- 21:22Speaker 1: and Canada visit their website. Our next article is Magistrate
- 21:27Speaker 1: Heir's concerned to Road Department, Pardon me Foreman, Assistant Foreman
- 21:32Speaker 1: and Fiscal Court Court members approved purchase of salt trucks
- 21:36Speaker 1: brush cutter at August the eleventh meeting by Miranda m Cantrell,
- 21:42Speaker 1: Mangister and Eric Palfrey aired concerns to Road Department employees
- 21:47Speaker 1: during the special August eleventh meeting of the Morgan County
- 21:50Speaker 1: Fiscal Court ahead of a vote to purchase additional equipment
- 21:55Speaker 1: for the crew. Following the roll call, during which the
- 21:59Speaker 1: absences of Magistrates Leroy Phipps and Tyler Keaton were noted,
- 22:05Speaker 1: Judge Executive Jim Gaizey announced the first agenda item involving
- 22:10Speaker 1: the proposed purchases of a truck and a brushcutter for
- 22:13Speaker 1: the Road Department, County Treasurer and pardon me. Sheena Easternly
- 22:19Speaker 1: told the court that she had included quotes for an
- 22:22Speaker 1: extended camp truck with a winter eyed snow and salt
- 22:26Speaker 1: package and a brushcutter in magistrate's meeting information. The Treasurer
- 22:32Speaker 1: also noted that the above mentioned items were discussed during
- 22:36Speaker 1: the previous court meeting on July the thirtieth, and directed
- 22:40Speaker 1: questions regarding the quotes to Road Department Foreman Shaan Ratliffe
- 22:46Speaker 1: and Assistant Foreman Shannon Bowman. Magistrate Eric Heilfrey stated that
- 22:52Speaker 1: he wished to speak prior to discussion of the agenda items,
- 22:57Speaker 1: so I asked these guys to give me a list
- 22:59Speaker 1: of equipment. Pelfrey said, in a reference to Foreman Ratliffe
- 23:02Speaker 1: and assistant form and Bowman. I'm one hundred percent about
- 23:06Speaker 1: getting people what they need to work with. But when
- 23:09Speaker 1: you go on every road in my district and they're awful,
- 23:13Speaker 1: limbs hanging over the road, weeds so high they're falling
- 23:17Speaker 1: over in the road, something's got to be done. I
- 23:21Speaker 1: told you all three weeks ago that the roads in
- 23:23Speaker 1: my district were awful and we need to do something,
- 23:27Speaker 1: but I never got a response back. So here's the thing.
- 23:32Speaker 1: I don't care a bit. My vote is to get
- 23:34Speaker 1: you all whatever you want if we can't afford it.
- 23:38Speaker 1: But when it's raining, these guys don't need to sit
- 23:41Speaker 1: up there at the garage all day. They can brush
- 23:45Speaker 1: cut in the rain, they can mow roads in the rain.
- 23:49Speaker 1: There ain't a thing that says you can't. Something's got
- 23:53Speaker 1: to be done. Assistant form and Bowman responded, it's not
- 23:58Speaker 1: your district, it's all of the districts. But here's the thing,
- 24:02Speaker 1: Magistrate Pelfrey continued, you guys were on May Branch and
- 24:07Speaker 1: I ask you to stop by and just do it
- 24:09Speaker 1: on the way back. Instead of that, you drove all
- 24:13Speaker 1: the way to White Oak to May Branch, and I
- 24:16Speaker 1: appreciate you doing that road, but there were roads I
- 24:20Speaker 1: asked you to do before that, and you took the
- 24:23Speaker 1: tractors and everything past those roads to get back to
- 24:26Speaker 1: the county garage. Why why not leave them in one
- 24:31Speaker 1: district and do all the roads in that district and
- 24:34Speaker 1: then move on to another district. Right now, you're skipping
- 24:38Speaker 1: all over the county and nothing's getting done. You're getting
- 24:42Speaker 1: the road here and a road there. When you can
- 24:45Speaker 1: get all of a district at once. To be honest,
- 24:49Speaker 1: we've apardonment. To be honest, we've about got to have
- 24:54Speaker 1: it year round. There's nothing that says you can't brush
- 24:58Speaker 1: cut in the winter. Foreman Ratlift address Magistrip Halfrey. You're right,
- 25:04Speaker 1: Ratliff said, except for us not having the equipment to
- 25:07Speaker 1: do it. Mandristript Palfrey cited the possibilities of legal issues.
- 25:14Speaker 1: I called you about Old Elam Road, Palfrey said. People
- 25:18Speaker 1: are telling me, Hey, what's going to happen if I
- 25:20Speaker 1: come around this curve and hit somebody because I can't see?
- 25:24Speaker 1: Do I sue the county? What am I supposed to say?
- 25:28Speaker 1: I told you guys, I said, I'll take my own
- 25:31Speaker 1: equipment and do it. Just let me know if you
- 25:34Speaker 1: can't get to it. I never got a response back.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Foreman Ratliff stated that the crew had mowed Old Elam Road.
- 25:42Speaker 1: As an additional discussion ensued. This is just frustrating, Palfrey said.
- 25:49Speaker 1: We put out a ton of taxpayer money. You've got everything.
- 25:53Speaker 1: We've spent millions. I don't know how much exactly on equipment.
- 25:57Speaker 1: What do we need? How many people do we need?
- 26:01Speaker 1: When we went almost a year without a brushcutter Foreman
