- 0:08Speaker 1: Salth Freelick is here, sal How was the off season
- 0:10Speaker 1: for you?
- 0:12Speaker 2: Good off season? Super cold, A lot of snow. But
- 0:16Speaker 2: why a ton of snow in Boston?
- 0:19Speaker 3: But why do you live there?
- 0:21Speaker 2: I was, That's where I was born, So that's that's
- 0:23Speaker 2: like always home for me. I love it too much
- 0:25Speaker 2: to go somewhere warm in the off season. And but
- 0:28Speaker 2: look at this, Yeah, that's why you come here for spring.
- 0:30Speaker 2: And it's great when I get to I would say,
- 0:33Speaker 2: I come here and it's like the first time I
- 0:35Speaker 2: take batting practice on the field or catch a flat
- 0:37Speaker 2: ball outside is in spring. So I feel like I
- 0:39Speaker 2: have like a nicer appreciation for Arizona. But that's good.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Do you like seasons? You know some people are like, no,
- 0:47Speaker 1: I just want eighty everything.
- 0:49Speaker 4: Yeah. I like seasons.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Yeah, Like like I love I love fall. I love
- 0:53Speaker 2: winter during the holidays. I will say, like after the
- 0:55Speaker 2: New Year, when it's still really cold and we're not
- 0:59Speaker 2: getting any snow, I'm like, alright, I gotta I gotta
- 1:00Speaker 2: get to easy. But I love the snow and the
- 1:03Speaker 2: cold for Thanksgiving and Christmas for sure.
- 1:06Speaker 3: I was in New York and they had that and
- 1:07Speaker 3: they're about that. You guys are about to get hit
- 1:09Speaker 3: with another another nor easter. Yeah right, So I was
- 1:11Speaker 3: in New York. We were in New York for the
- 1:13Speaker 3: Baseball Awards, and uh, I had to get out of
- 1:16Speaker 3: town otherwise would have been stuck there for like a
- 1:17Speaker 3: month because of the snow. I just don't know why
- 1:20Speaker 3: you guys enjoyed What what's the upside to the snow?
- 1:23Speaker 3: And you can't go outside because if you do, you
- 1:25Speaker 3: might go outside your skin is exposed.
- 1:29Speaker 4: You.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I mean, even when we were in college and growing up,
- 1:31Speaker 2: like as soon as it snowed, it was all right,
- 1:33Speaker 2: this is great because there were no cars on the street,
- 1:37Speaker 2: so the plows were out. They'd plow a little bit
- 1:39Speaker 2: and you'd go out. You'd throw your snowsuit on, you'd
- 1:41Speaker 2: bring sleds, whatever, and you just go out. Everybody would
- 1:44Speaker 2: be outside, and yeah, that's just we did that growing up.
- 1:48Speaker 2: We did that in college. And I just love the snow.
- 1:51Speaker 5: Yeah, So make sure AJ knows that he's soft, because,
- 1:55Speaker 5: like I mean, I'm a northern guy. We just the
- 1:58Speaker 5: Northeastern just passed through here. I'm in Pa, so I'm
- 2:01Speaker 5: not quite where you're at in Boston. But do you
- 2:04Speaker 5: think you would have been a better player with your skills.
- 2:08Speaker 5: People always ask the Northeast guys they take longer to develop,
- 2:11Speaker 5: and like, your career has kind of gone that direction.
- 2:15Speaker 5: If you'd have been one of those people from the
- 2:17Speaker 5: armpit of America like Florida or Texas, do you think
- 2:20Speaker 5: you would have been a better player, like maybe higher
- 2:24Speaker 5: draft pick or like made the acclamations of a big
- 2:27Speaker 5: league sooner?
- 2:29Speaker 3: For sure?
- 2:29Speaker 2: Absolutely, I mean I think I'm still learning. Like I
- 2:33Speaker 2: look at my swing sometimes and I'm like, oh, that's
- 2:35Speaker 2: what I look like.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Are you kidding me?
- 2:37Speaker 2: Like, I feel like I still have a lot of
- 2:39Speaker 2: room for that improvement. But at the same time, I
- 2:42Speaker 2: think there's areas of the game that I might feel
- 2:45Speaker 2: like I'm more developed out or have an edge on
- 2:47Speaker 2: because I'm from you know, the Northeast, and I love
- 2:50Speaker 2: carrying that chip on my shoulder. I'm super proud to
- 2:53Speaker 2: be from from New England, and it's one of the
- 2:56Speaker 2: first things I usually tell people is, Hey, I'm from Boston,
- 2:59Speaker 2: you know, even if they don't ask where I'm from, Like,
- 3:00Speaker 2: I'm super proud of it. So yeah, you know, you
- 3:04Speaker 2: can just carry a lot a lot of pride all right.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Did you see murphs joke when we were in New
- 3:11Speaker 3: York at the BBWAA Awards where he got his second
- 3:14Speaker 3: Manager of the Year award.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I mean, he's a walking he's You didn't hear what
- 3:19Speaker 2: he said though, No I did.
- 3:21Speaker 3: And he said that they have to have you guys,
- 3:23Speaker 3: that they have to lower the soap dispensers in American
- 3:27Speaker 3: family field because you only have short kings on your team.
- 3:30Speaker 2: It's true, it's true.
- 3:31Speaker 3: But do you have a different because we just had
- 3:33Speaker 3: Miz Right and Kyle Rison, and they're tall, they are, right,
- 3:36Speaker 3: but every position players five nine or five eight and under.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yeah, the pictures are I feel like, more, you know,
- 3:43Speaker 2: normal vertically, but the position players is pretty much like
- 3:47Speaker 2: there's a guy over six foot, he's kind of like
- 3:49Speaker 2: getting looked at, like, what's this guy doing here?
- 3:52Speaker 3: Is that why you and Adam Amin when every time
- 3:53Speaker 3: Adam Aman does a game, because he's also like five seven,
- 3:57Speaker 3: is that why you always go.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Off everything five eight? I feel like we're the same
- 4:00Speaker 2: about Adam. Yeah, I'm talking about yeah no, but yeah,
- 4:04Speaker 2: you got to stick together. The short guy's got to
- 4:06Speaker 2: stick together. I love playing for this team. I think
- 4:09Speaker 2: you know, Murph does a good job getting all the
- 4:11Speaker 2: short guys together and in one in one clubhouse, especially uh,
- 4:15Speaker 2: you know, the offensive players.
- 4:16Speaker 3: So it's fun you Does he have to do different
- 4:19Speaker 3: Do you guys have to do different stretches and stuff?
- 4:24Speaker 2: I mean we do different stretches in general from the
- 4:27Speaker 2: positional difference, but I think we might have to stretch
- 4:29Speaker 2: less than they do just because they have more length
- 4:31Speaker 2: to them. It's kind of we stroll it out.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't even think about that.
- 4:37Speaker 5: And you guys are closer to the ground, so your
- 4:39Speaker 5: low ball hitters all the jokes that Murph probably has.
- 4:42Speaker 5: Do you have do you have one joke that you
- 4:45Speaker 5: were like, Man, I totally got Murph, and can you
- 4:48Speaker 5: tell us?
- 4:50Speaker 2: I mean, I have infinite I've told this one. I've
- 4:54Speaker 2: told this one a few times. I wasn't telling it
- 4:56Speaker 2: at first because I was like, I don't want people
- 4:58Speaker 2: to hear this, but Murph as this joke like, I'm
- 5:02Speaker 2: a big crossword guy, right come in to the clubhouse,
- 5:04Speaker 2: I'll do a crossword, have a coffee, whatnot. And Murpha
- 5:07Speaker 2: will always come in and be like, it's really good
- 5:09Speaker 2: you're doing crosswords, because you know you're not good enough
- 5:12Speaker 2: to play in this league, you'll be out of it
- 5:13Speaker 2: in the next year or two. So it's good that
- 5:15Speaker 2: you keep your brain sharp for when you're applying to
- 5:17Speaker 2: grad school. And I think he just chose a random
- 5:19Speaker 2: school because he's from New York obviously knows some of
- 5:21Speaker 2: the schools up in the Northeast. And he goes, you know,
- 5:24Speaker 2: you should start applying to schools, maybe Brandis, which is
- 5:26Speaker 2: a it's a small school out out in Massachusetts. And
- 5:28Speaker 2: I'm like, what that's That's so stupid.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Come to it.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Like two weeks later, I'm I'm just at my locker
- 5:35Speaker 2: and you get mail whatever, and I get this envelope
- 5:38Speaker 2: that says Brandeis University and I'm like, it's just super weird.
- 5:41Speaker 4: I didn't even really open.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I think I brought it home and my girlfriend ended
- 5:44Speaker 2: up opening and she's like, hey, you might want to
- 5:46Speaker 2: look at this and I and I read it. It
- 5:48Speaker 2: was from the president of Brandeis Business.
- 5:51Speaker 4: School, and I looked up who it was.
- 5:52Speaker 2: It was the actual guy, and it's a full letter,
- 5:55Speaker 2: probably like six or seven paragraphs of how brand Ice
- 5:59Speaker 2: had seen some interviews with Murph and how he said
- 6:01Speaker 2: that I was interested in Brandeis, and I wasn't going
- 6:04Speaker 2: to be in the game long and I'm like, I couldn't.
- 6:08Speaker 2: It was written way too well for it to be Murph.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Like there was super big words in it, and I
- 6:13Speaker 2: knew Murph didn't write them. But at the same time,
- 6:15Speaker 2: I'm like this, he has to be a part of this.
- 6:18Speaker 2: So I went into his office next day. I threw
- 6:20Speaker 2: it on his desk. I was like, I know this
- 6:22Speaker 2: was you. And he played off for a little bit,
- 6:24Speaker 2: but I eventually found out he reached out to the
- 6:26Speaker 2: guy and had him write a letter from Brandeis. And
- 6:29Speaker 2: I'm like, oh my gosh, are.
- 6:31Speaker 3: They gonna give you like a free doctorate? Like can
- 6:35Speaker 3: I get like a free doctorate or something, you know,
- 6:38Speaker 3: an honorary doctorate?
- 6:40Speaker 2: Yeah, Brandise, Yeah, So I guess I'm if you know
- 6:42Speaker 2: it does come to that, which Murphy continues to reminds
- 6:44Speaker 2: me that it is going to I guess I have
- 6:48Speaker 2: some connections to Brandeis.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Now that's good.
- 6:51Speaker 5: That's good, And you can be like a j You
- 6:52Speaker 5: can never have gone to school and just give a
- 6:54Speaker 5: lot of money and claim that at the school. But
- 6:58Speaker 5: we're we're talking about the height, we're talking about the height.
- 7:01Speaker 5: You guys did your abs height check and everything. Did
- 7:05Speaker 5: you come in.
- 7:05Speaker 2: No, we haven't done it yet right after this. We
- 7:09Speaker 2: we haven't at ten to ten. So I'm gonna be
- 7:11Speaker 2: doing it right after that. Yeah, I'm gonna have my
- 7:15Speaker 2: feet super wide, really bad posture. I think I'm gonna
- 7:19Speaker 2: try to sync down a little bit.
- 7:22Speaker 4: No, I don't know.
- 7:23Speaker 2: I'm gonna just stand the regular I'm gonna swing at
- 7:25Speaker 2: the pitches that are balls anyway, So it's for guys
- 7:27Speaker 2: who take balls. I'm not in that category.
- 7:29Speaker 1: So yeah, let's look at some matchups coming up for
- 7:34Speaker 1: tomorrow thanks to Sea Geek. So we're gonna pull up
- 7:37Speaker 1: some pitching probables like I mentioned. Hey, here's what I
- 7:40Speaker 1: want to focus on. We just started talking about them.
- 7:42Speaker 1: So the Mets play the Astros on Thursday. We're gonna
- 7:46Speaker 1: get to see Nolan McLean and tatuya am I. So
- 7:49Speaker 1: right away, I'm circling that one as my favorite, and
- 7:52Speaker 1: you can get the get the tickets for that one
- 7:54Speaker 1: over at the Sea Geek app because I'm sure it's
- 7:56Speaker 1: going to be a hotter ticket for this one. But
- 7:58Speaker 1: aj we get to see Ami, who I think I
- 8:00Speaker 1: a lot to prove. You also might pop up in
- 8:02Speaker 1: the WBC, but I think he has a lot to
- 8:03Speaker 1: proof because there were some teams that clearly doubted him.
- 8:05Speaker 1: And then Nolan McLain has sky high expectations coming into
- 8:09Speaker 1: this year and he's also prepping for the World Baseball Classic.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I love this matchup? Are you kidding me? For
- 8:17Speaker 3: a spring training storry. You get to see two guys
- 8:19Speaker 3: that are expected to be big parts of their team's rotation.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Now they might only throw an inning or two, but
- 8:23Speaker 3: this is still fun. These are the matchups you look for.
- 8:25Speaker 3: This is the matchups I always look for if you
- 8:27Speaker 3: want to go to a spring training game. Yes, you
- 8:29Speaker 3: want to see your team, but if you can find
- 8:30Speaker 3: a good pitching matchup. And the best part is Scott
- 8:33Speaker 3: you can buy those tickets on SIKI that you can
- 8:35Speaker 3: go down the line like say you want inn a
- 8:37Speaker 3: my autograph. After they're done pitching, they usually walk by
- 8:40Speaker 3: or they go out and do some work extra workout
- 8:42Speaker 3: in the field. You can stand there, you can have
- 8:44Speaker 3: your ball and you can say, you know, Nolan McLain,
- 8:46Speaker 3: can you please sell my ball? Am I? Can you
- 8:49Speaker 3: please sell my ball? So it's a great opportunity to
- 8:51Speaker 3: get an autograph.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Yeah, if you're looking for spring training tickets, this is
- 8:55Speaker 1: the spot Glass Nowse pitching for the Dodgers out in Arizona.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Chase Burns for the Reds up again, Nick Pavetta for
- 9:01Speaker 1: the Padres in that matchup. These are Thursday matchups. Gosman's
- 9:04Speaker 1: pitching for the J's, Crochet for the Red Sox. See
- 9:07Speaker 1: Geek is the spot. Okay, use code Territory ten ten
- 9:10Speaker 1: percent off tickets on Sea Geek. That's the code and
- 9:14Speaker 1: with that promo code t E R R I t
- 9:16Speaker 1: O R Y ten. Make sure you click the link
- 9:19Speaker 1: in the description to download the app and you have
- 9:21Speaker 1: that code automatically added to your account so you can
- 9:23Speaker 1: use it later. Thank you to see geek. And remember
- 9:26Speaker 1: when you're on the app, you get a good deal.
- 9:28Speaker 1: That's the green dot. If they don't like the deal
- 9:31Speaker 1: for you, it's red. It's like a personal assistant on
- 9:33Speaker 1: the app.
- 9:34Speaker 5: There's but there's been some discussion about it, right, There's
- 9:37Speaker 5: been some like cause there's there's a good like you
- 9:39Speaker 5: can you can stick your butt out because you're not
- 9:42Speaker 5: but if you do this.
- 9:44Speaker 3: I was.
- 9:44Speaker 5: I was part of the very first measuring when they
- 9:47Speaker 5: tried to, Yeah, tried to figure it out back in
- 9:49Speaker 5: like I mean, I think it was nineteen or twenty
- 9:52Speaker 5: in spring training when they were like trying it out
- 9:55Speaker 5: for the first time and they said, if you like slouch,
- 9:57Speaker 5: you can't. But like, have guys talked about, Okay, I'm
- 10:00Speaker 5: gonna be a slow I'm on a slouch, I don't
- 10:02Speaker 5: care what my height is.
- 10:04Speaker 4: Yeah, we've I mean we've again.
- 10:05Speaker 2: We I had it in the miners in Tripa that
- 10:07Speaker 2: one year and they measured us and I remember guys
- 10:09Speaker 2: trying to slouch and they were pretty strict with like
- 10:11Speaker 2: making sure guys weren't slouching and stuff. But at the
- 10:14Speaker 2: same time, I think we're under the impression right now
- 10:17Speaker 2: that wherever you get measured at doesn't come into play.
- 10:22Speaker 2: If you then crouch in your batting stance, if you're
- 10:24Speaker 2: a guy who like gets really low in his batting stands,
- 10:26Speaker 2: they still take the frame from when you were just
- 10:29Speaker 2: standing upright. So guys are right, So and again this
- 10:34Speaker 2: is just what I'm hearing. We're talking about it. So
- 10:37Speaker 2: guys are like, if guys are like really crouched down
- 10:39Speaker 2: on their batting stands, they're like, I don't want to
- 10:41Speaker 2: get measured standing straight up because my zone is gonna
- 10:43Speaker 2: be higher. So, yeah, guys are talking about it. We'll
- 10:46Speaker 2: see how it goes. Again, I'm kind of on the
- 10:49Speaker 2: side of I don't think it's gonna impact the game.
- 10:52Speaker 3: You know this, because if Rose and You're all, you know,
- 10:56Speaker 3: squatted over and then he'd have to swing in pitches
- 10:58Speaker 3: like over his head, right, it doesn't seem like so
- 11:00Speaker 3: we'll see. I'm playing straight up, so you know, then
- 11:03Speaker 3: I would have maybe had a hard time with the
- 11:05Speaker 3: low ones. And by the way, Aaron Judge lost like
- 11:06Speaker 3: two inches on his abs, so maybe he's allowed to.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Right, So we'll see. I'm I'm it's been fine so
- 11:13Speaker 2: far in the games with the guys challenging. I feel
- 11:15Speaker 2: like the zone has been pretty pretty fine.
- 11:16Speaker 5: But yeah, so you don't think it's that big of
- 11:19Speaker 5: a deal that like, oh, you know, we got to
- 11:21Speaker 5: have more open dialogue about this, or just not that
- 11:24Speaker 5: big of a deal for you.
- 11:26Speaker 2: No, I think the open dialogue is fine. I think
- 11:28Speaker 2: you know, it's good for baseball. It's kind of exciting
- 11:30Speaker 2: when you see the ball come in on the on
- 11:31Speaker 2: the jumbo tron, you know, similar like tennis challenge and whatnot.
- 11:35Speaker 2: But I think it eventually is going to iron itself
- 11:39Speaker 2: out and it's gonna be pretty normal.
- 11:41Speaker 6: Again.
- 11:41Speaker 2: You have two challenges. I don't think teams are super
- 11:44Speaker 2: eager to use those challenges in non leverage situations, so
- 11:47Speaker 2: I don't think it's gonna come out as much. I
- 11:49Speaker 2: think they were saying even in the minors it was
- 11:51Speaker 2: either three or four challenges per game, which I don't
- 11:55Speaker 2: think is a ton for the amount of times that
- 11:57Speaker 2: a hitter a pitcher might think they, you know, get screwed.
- 12:00Speaker 2: So I really think it's not gonna be this crazy
- 12:03Speaker 2: difference where you see guys challenging every single at bat.
- 12:07Speaker 2: It's gonna be cool when it happens, you know, the
- 12:08Speaker 2: two or three times a game in these high leverage counts,
- 12:10Speaker 2: and other than that, I don't think it's gonna be
- 12:12Speaker 2: this like crazy change to the game.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Does Murph allow anyone but himself to challenge?
- 12:17Speaker 7: Like?
- 12:17Speaker 3: Does he have a signal from the like does he
- 12:19Speaker 3: yell liked tell someone to challenge so that he lets
- 12:23Speaker 3: him know or is he just gonna let you guys
- 12:25Speaker 3: free flow it?
- 12:25Speaker 2: Well, I think one you has to be you have
- 12:29Speaker 2: to challenge so quick.
- 12:30Speaker 3: I know, but Murph still could be like he could.
- 12:33Speaker 4: I already know.
- 12:34Speaker 2: I'm one of those guys that can't challenge, and if
- 12:36Speaker 2: I do, it has to be correct. I think most
- 12:38Speaker 2: of those guys know that. I think there's a few guys.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Is you're wrong? What does he do? I don't know,
- 12:44Speaker 3: or we were even.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Talking about that. We were like, should we get like
- 12:47Speaker 2: a you know, kangaroo court type thing going where if
- 12:49Speaker 2: you get it wrong, I mean you're put you're getting
- 12:51Speaker 2: fined by the team into this pool at least, like
- 12:54Speaker 2: you know, if you challenge, like you know, a three
- 12:55Speaker 2: to zero pitch or whatnot. Like we were like, maybe
- 12:58Speaker 2: we should have some standards held here, but I'm sure
- 13:01Speaker 2: murphill came up with some stuff.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Well also, I mean early in games, it's gonna have
- 13:07Speaker 1: to be egregious or where like you said, you look
- 13:09Speaker 1: and you're like this is way off. I'm pad a
- 13:11Speaker 1: bad pitch here, let's do it. So my thing is
- 13:14Speaker 1: you're going to see this at some point because everybody
- 13:16Speaker 1: has a bad day, and you know, we'll go over
- 13:19Speaker 1: on show. We'll credit the guys when they have like
- 13:21Speaker 1: a perfect performance based on the grading but also every
- 13:23Speaker 1: once in a while you have an ump and misses
- 13:25Speaker 1: like fifteen eighteen calls in a game. There's gonna be
- 13:27Speaker 1: a game this year where a team's gonna get on
- 13:29Speaker 1: a challenge sheeter early and they're gonna be like, I
- 13:31Speaker 1: just think his zone is off, and it's going to
- 13:33Speaker 1: be like boom, got it because you keep it if
- 13:35Speaker 1: you get it right, that's the key. Right, So if
- 13:37Speaker 1: you get one and you're like, I just think he's
- 13:38Speaker 1: off today, you're going to see one where there's like,
- 13:41Speaker 1: I don't know, twelve fourteen challenges in a game.
- 13:44Speaker 2: One hundred percent, I mean, and you would hope that too,
- 13:47Speaker 2: and even talking with some of the umpires and they
- 13:49Speaker 2: seem pretty excited about it too, because it might help them,
- 13:53Speaker 2: you know, adjust their zone quicker where early in the game,
- 13:57Speaker 2: you know they're giving that ball off. If guys are
- 13:59Speaker 2: challenging that and they're continuously getting proven like okay, that's
- 14:02Speaker 2: a ball, they might tighten it up quicker. And you know,
- 14:05Speaker 2: at first was asking some of the guys this so
- 14:08Speaker 2: farther spring, like hey, is this annoying to you? Because
- 14:10Speaker 2: you know sometimes that's we know, like all right, he's
- 14:13Speaker 2: given that pitch. We're gonna go attack it like we
- 14:16Speaker 2: don't mind, they don't mind, and they're like, no, this
- 14:18Speaker 2: is they think so far from I'm hearing, have been
- 14:21Speaker 2: very positive about it and been saying like, that's great.
- 14:23Speaker 2: We'd love that quick feedback and kind of change it,
- 14:25Speaker 2: change it quicker.
- 14:26Speaker 3: So, so are you a Patriots fan?
- 14:29Speaker 2: So I'm actually a Steelers fan? Okay, but even worse,
- 14:33Speaker 2: but not not too bandwagon, but I do. I do
- 14:38Speaker 2: claim the Patriots as as my second team when the
- 14:40Speaker 2: Steelers are not in the playoffs.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Okay, well, my second team is the Seahawks. So I
- 14:43Speaker 3: was going to give you a little shit about that
- 14:45Speaker 3: ass open that the Patriots took in the Super Bowl,
- 14:48Speaker 3: But you know, the Steelers will. They finished nine and
- 14:50Speaker 3: seven and they lose in the first round. They have
- 14:52Speaker 3: a new coach, so it's fine. What was harder for
- 14:55Speaker 3: you then? Was it watching the Super Bowl and the
- 14:57Speaker 3: domination of the Seahawks defense or the way the NLCS
- 15:00Speaker 3: ended for you guys last year?
- 15:02Speaker 2: I mean I would have to say that, I'll see, okay,
- 15:04Speaker 2: I I don't know if anything is worse than that.
- 15:08Speaker 2: You know, it was obviously a great stepping stone. I
- 15:11Speaker 2: think for us last two years before this past when
- 15:14Speaker 2: we lost in the wild cards. So one to to
- 15:17Speaker 2: play good enough during the regular season to skip the
- 15:19Speaker 2: wild card, then to beat the Cubs.
- 15:21Speaker 3: It's always a good day when you beat the Cubs.
- 15:23Speaker 3: What happens and.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Kind of in a little dramatic fashion too. Obviously we
- 15:28Speaker 2: went up two games and then went to Chicago, lost
- 15:30Speaker 2: to They forced a game five, brought it back to
- 15:33Speaker 2: Milwaukee in one, which was awesome. Awesome to win a series.
- 15:37Speaker 2: And then yeah, I mean, first of first off, you know,
- 15:41Speaker 2: tip tip in the cap to the Dodgers. There haven't
- 15:44Speaker 2: seen a starting pitcher performance like that in a while.
- 15:48Speaker 2: And you know, I'd like to say that they can
- 15:50Speaker 2: throw any starter out there and pitch as good as
- 15:52Speaker 2: they want. Our lap, we'll give them a battle. And
- 15:56Speaker 2: you know, we really did want into sort of a
- 15:57Speaker 2: buz saw there and those guys, you know, through the
- 15:59Speaker 2: crap of the ball. But yeah, a little disappointing end there,
- 16:02Speaker 2: for sure.
- 16:04Speaker 5: You said the last two years were stepping stones. How
- 16:07Speaker 5: tough is it to see Isaac Collins get traded, Caleb
- 16:10Speaker 5: Durban get traded, Freddie p get traded, and then say, well, yeah,
- 16:14Speaker 5: we're on a stepping stone, and then you're looking for
- 16:16Speaker 5: the next stone and you're like, crap, it looks farther
- 16:19Speaker 5: away than it did last year.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Yeah, and again I think to that point, like, we
- 16:26Speaker 2: know we're not going to go out and sign these
- 16:27Speaker 2: big guys every offseason, right, we know we're not gonna
- 16:31Speaker 2: enter that free agency pool and start offering these guys money.
- 16:34Speaker 2: But we also really take pride in drafting guys are
- 16:38Speaker 2: homegrown guys. You know, you look at Freddie, a guy
- 16:41Speaker 2: who came up their organization, you know, didn't miss a
- 16:45Speaker 2: start for us, I think for the past five six years.
- 16:47Speaker 2: And then you go and get guys like Caleb Durban,
- 16:50Speaker 2: get guys like Isaac Collins who just fit our mold
- 16:52Speaker 2: super well, and that kind of that Murph Baseball sq
- 16:56Speaker 2: type play. And you know, you grow close to these guys, right,
- 16:59Speaker 2: and I understand business guys are going to get traded.
- 17:01Speaker 2: And you know, I think this was my first real
- 17:04Speaker 2: time though where the guys that did I had really
- 17:07Speaker 2: close relationships with, so you know, wish nothing but the
- 17:09Speaker 2: best for them. But but again I see the get
- 17:12Speaker 2: the business side of it and understand that, you know,
- 17:14Speaker 2: guys get traded and that's that's part of it.
- 17:17Speaker 3: So uh, no extension talks. We can just give me
- 17:20Speaker 3: a yes or no.
- 17:21Speaker 2: No.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Okay, let's go. Let's go mad Art. Well, we're gonna
- 17:25Speaker 3: talk to Matt soon, so we'll make sure we bring
- 17:27Speaker 3: that up to them. Uh WBC starts soon. You run
- 17:32Speaker 3: Team Italy last time? No Team Italy for you this year?
- 17:36Speaker 3: Is it because you were too short? Because they have
- 17:38Speaker 3: like Vinnie Jack Kaglion, they have some monsters now. So
- 17:41Speaker 3: were they like, hey, listen, we need to go with
- 17:43Speaker 3: the full grown lineup here.
- 17:45Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 17:45Speaker 2: I think I was just I was getting phased out.
- 17:47Speaker 2: They there are too many monsters to your point, point
- 17:51Speaker 2: out and no again, I was playing up until the
- 17:55Speaker 2: end of the season. I committed to them. I love
- 17:58Speaker 2: doing it. When I did it three years ago, unbelievable
- 18:01Speaker 2: run with those guys when we were started in Taiwan and
- 18:03Speaker 2: finished in Japan, like it was such a cool experience
- 18:05Speaker 2: and was excited to do it again. They did kind
- 18:08Speaker 2: of switch things up a little bit. I was there
- 18:11Speaker 2: when Piazza was the man.
- 18:12Speaker 3: I talked to Piazza and he said, you were the
- 18:14Speaker 3: reason why I didn't come back.
- 18:16Speaker 2: That's that's crazy. Again, that honored but Uta too, who's
- 18:21Speaker 2: now with the nationalar assistant coach. He's a Boston College
- 18:25Speaker 2: guy as well. That's where he went, and so I'd
- 18:27Speaker 2: known Blake for a long time. But again, even though
- 18:31Speaker 2: those guys weren't doing it, I know, I talked to
- 18:34Speaker 2: Vinnie and Caglian and I was like, yeah, I'm all in,
- 18:36Speaker 2: and just had the end of the year meeting with
- 18:39Speaker 2: the team and got the MRI's back and had the
- 18:42Speaker 2: end of the year of meetings with the doctor and
- 18:44Speaker 2: they were kind of just like, hey, I think we
- 18:46Speaker 2: need a full off season, in a full spring training
- 18:49Speaker 2: kind of under our control.
- 18:52Speaker 3: And so yeah, that's interesting. Wow, it's a shame because
- 18:56Speaker 3: I love the WBC and I want every team to
- 18:58Speaker 3: have all their players and be as good as they can.
- 19:00Speaker 3: So to Shane that Italy, we'll be rooting for him
- 19:05Speaker 3: though either way. Oh yeah, you're going to be rooting
- 19:06Speaker 3: hard for him for sure. But then okay, so then all,
- 19:09Speaker 3: did you watch the hockey game yesterday? Oh yeah, So
- 19:11Speaker 3: were you rooting for USA? Oh yeah, obviously, so you
- 19:14Speaker 3: can root for USA and hockey, but not in baseball.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Oh I'll be rooting for usay in baseball for sure.
- 19:19Speaker 3: When Italy plays USA and in Houston in the first round.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, look, if I was playing for Italy,
- 19:24Speaker 2: I would want to beat USA. But I listen, I
- 19:28Speaker 2: love this country. I don't think anything Trump's the United States.
- 19:32Speaker 2: So you know, I'll be rooting for a good game.
- 19:35Speaker 2: You know, whoever wins, it'll be a good one. But
- 19:37Speaker 2: outside of those two teams playing playing against each other,
- 19:39Speaker 2: I'll be rooting for US.
- 19:40Speaker 3: If you had to take a ball to the face
- 19:42Speaker 3: to win the gold medal, would you do it?
- 19:43Speaker 2: I take I take four balls to the face.
- 19:51Speaker 4: I love it.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Well, sad, we love catching up. But yeah, this was great.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Have fun in spring training and we'll talk to you
- 19:56Speaker 1: during the season.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it's always fun, guys. Thanks for having me on.
- 19:59Speaker 4: We'll see soon.
- 20:00Speaker 1: We've got the All Star from twenty twenty five and
- 20:03Speaker 1: a sophomore the miz joining us right now on FT.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Is it crazy to hear all of that? What a
- 20:08Speaker 1: run it was, and then that even included the postseason performance.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Did you do some reflecting in the off season.
- 20:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean it's yeah, it's wild.
- 20:18Speaker 7: I mean I never thought, you know, our first year
- 20:19Speaker 7: in the league, I'd be in that talk of an
- 20:21Speaker 7: all star like with it, and it's just I don't know,
- 20:24Speaker 7: it's insane.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Have you woken up from the dream yet?
- 20:28Speaker 6: No, No, we're closed. I think I'm still just like
- 20:30Speaker 6: floating along.
- 20:31Speaker 7: We're kind of you know, maybe maybe like second weekend,
- 20:34Speaker 7: we'll finally like wake up and it'll feel real.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Are you a veteran now on this team?
- 20:38Speaker 6: Oh? No?
- 20:38Speaker 3: When you walk in, does Murph treat you differently?
- 20:41Speaker 6: No, he still treats me the same because he still
- 20:43Speaker 6: gives me shit about everything.
- 20:44Speaker 3: So yeah, but if Murph didn't give you shit, then
- 20:48Speaker 3: he wouldn't know he liked you.
- 20:49Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly. That's his love language though. You know.
- 20:51Speaker 3: Yeah, Murph walks by you and doesn't speak and you
- 20:53Speaker 3: know you're in trouble.
- 20:54Speaker 6: Yes, is very true.
- 20:55Speaker 3: What's his nickname for you?
- 20:59Speaker 7: Forst come? That's a good one. He's also like Daddy
- 21:04Speaker 7: long legs. He's been calling me that for a while.
- 21:06Speaker 6: You know.
- 21:06Speaker 7: It's just anything to do with like long legged, you know, creatures.
- 21:11Speaker 7: He just calls me that.
- 21:13Speaker 5: All right, So your manager kind of chirp you. I
- 21:16Speaker 5: feel like when I watched some of your games, it
- 21:18Speaker 5: felt like, you know, I could hear the other team
- 21:21Speaker 5: chirping you. Did you ever hear any good chirps from
- 21:24Speaker 5: the other team since your manager is already the one
- 21:26Speaker 5: that's like giving it to you. But it seemed like
- 21:29Speaker 5: when you would have a big strikeout, it was like
- 21:31Speaker 5: you almost like turn to look at them like, yeah,
- 21:35Speaker 5: I got this, Like they were on you up until
- 21:37Speaker 5: that point.
- 21:38Speaker 7: No, I never I never heard anything coming from the
- 21:41Speaker 7: other side. So, I mean, all I was hearing was
- 21:44Speaker 7: my team just giving me ship for dumb, dumb things.
- 21:47Speaker 6: I was doing well.
- 21:51Speaker 3: I was gonna say, oh, there were a few.
- 21:53Speaker 6: There were a few.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Yelly was yelly, Yelly get in your ear.
- 21:56Speaker 6: Yeah, Yelly would give in my ear a few times.
- 21:58Speaker 7: And then big Wu was big he uh yeah, let
- 22:01Speaker 7: me hear it a few times, you know, the veterans
- 22:05Speaker 7: letting me let me know.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Yeah. And those are some good names too. So I
- 22:09Speaker 1: want to dial in on the postseason again for a moment.
- 22:13Speaker 1: What was it like at that point trying to figure
- 22:15Speaker 1: out what your role would be, How much communication was
- 22:18Speaker 1: there about it, How did you evaluate your performance because
- 22:22Speaker 1: the other thing going on I remember from the second
- 22:24Speaker 1: half was they were trying to make sure that you're
- 22:27Speaker 1: going to be good to go in the postseason from
- 22:30Speaker 1: an innings perspective, you know, regardless of how you felt.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I think it was close to one hundred inns the
- 22:35Speaker 1: year before, so teams are going to monitor that, and
- 22:37Speaker 1: then we're we're all wondering, like how much of a
- 22:39Speaker 1: factors is going to be And you know, you made
- 22:42Speaker 1: some pretty big pitches in the postseason for Milwaukee.
- 22:45Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean they were pretty vocal with everything, let
- 22:48Speaker 7: me know, and uh, you know, I was happy with
- 22:51Speaker 7: whatever they were to give me. I was just gonna
- 22:53Speaker 7: be happy to go out there and pitch in a
- 22:54Speaker 7: postseason game. So you know, if that was a one
- 22:57Speaker 7: in appearance or you know, like they did giving me
- 23:00Speaker 7: a ball a few times, I'm just gonna run with
- 23:03Speaker 7: whatever they hand me.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Were you excited about owning the Dodgers in your career?
- 23:07Speaker 3: It's done well against the Dodgers.
- 23:09Speaker 7: I mean, I mean, yeah, that's always a positive. It's
- 23:11Speaker 7: always a positive to play well against the team like
- 23:14Speaker 7: of that caliber.
- 23:15Speaker 6: So it's it's really cool.
- 23:16Speaker 3: To I mean, five innings in the postseason one run.
- 23:18Speaker 3: That was nice.
- 23:19Speaker 6: Yeah, it was really nice.
- 23:20Speaker 3: And you're what was your second stars again, was it
- 23:22Speaker 3: against Kershaw. Yeah it was, and you outdueled them. Yeah yeah,
- 23:28Speaker 3: you can bit retired now yeah, patch yourself on the
- 23:32Speaker 3: back a little bit now.
- 23:33Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:33Speaker 6: No, it's really cool.
- 23:34Speaker 7: I mean I grew up watching Kershaw forever and ever,
- 23:37Speaker 7: so it's a it's really cool to, you know, have
- 23:39Speaker 7: that experience against him.
- 23:42Speaker 5: When when you have those innings limits and you're in
- 23:45Speaker 5: a game that okay, they talked to you about X
- 23:47Speaker 5: amount of innings and you're approaching that is it hard
- 23:50Speaker 5: to be like looking over and you come to the
- 23:53Speaker 5: dugout because I always here pitchers say when they come
- 23:56Speaker 5: to the dugout and they looked down the manager to
- 23:58Speaker 5: see if they're coming out, it's like it might as
- 24:01Speaker 5: well take me out because it's hard to lock back in.
- 24:05Speaker 7: I mean, I mean, I understand what you're saying, but like, no,
- 24:08Speaker 7: I mean like I was in those postseason games, I
- 24:11Speaker 7: was so locked in and just like I didn't want
- 24:14Speaker 7: to give up the ball, So I never really was
- 24:16Speaker 7: looking down there. Murph always had to come up and
- 24:18Speaker 7: like be like you're done, like go go to the
- 24:21Speaker 7: locker room, go get changed.
- 24:22Speaker 6: Like go do your work afterwards. But no, it was good.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Did they give you a role for this year. You started,
- 24:30Speaker 3: you relieved, you long died, You kind of did everything
- 24:32Speaker 3: for him. We were like a utility weapon.
- 24:34Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 24:34Speaker 7: I mean I haven't heard anything set in stone of
- 24:38Speaker 7: what I'm gonna be this year, but you know, you
- 24:40Speaker 7: always hope that you're gonna be in that starting role.
- 24:43Speaker 7: I mean that's what every picture dreams of doing. So
- 24:46Speaker 7: you know that's the that's the hope.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Hey, man's more for me, specifically the workload. So how
- 24:55Speaker 1: do you manage that communication with the team and then
- 24:58Speaker 1: how did you prepare yourself or that in the off season.
- 25:01Speaker 1: You know, I always want to know with the pitcher,
- 25:03Speaker 1: who's I mean, you are still a pop You're early
- 25:05Speaker 1: on in your big league career, you know, do you
- 25:08Speaker 1: guys talk about a certain number that's a goal for
- 25:11Speaker 1: the season in terms of how many innings, whether you
- 25:13Speaker 1: share it or not. Just hey, this is what I
- 25:15Speaker 1: want you to be prepared for. If you're full go,
- 25:17Speaker 1: you're feeling good, you're starting, this is what we see
- 25:20Speaker 1: for you. So let's also make sure that we get
- 25:23Speaker 1: you from here to October and then in October you
- 25:26Speaker 1: feel like you're at your best.
- 25:29Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean I don't think there was a I
- 25:32Speaker 7: think there was a number they gave, but it was
- 25:33Speaker 7: like a rough estimate of where they want me. It's
- 25:36Speaker 7: not really a set and stone thing. So you know
- 25:39Speaker 7: if I go under that, and I mean, that's always
- 25:43Speaker 7: a positive if you can get there. But no, there,
- 25:46Speaker 7: I don't remember exactly what number, but yeah, it was
- 25:49Speaker 7: somewhere like plus of what I did last year, So
- 25:54Speaker 7: it'll it'll be good of whatever they whatever they come
- 25:57Speaker 7: up with. And uh, you know with the off season
- 26:01Speaker 7: stuff like just more like conditioning, doing all that stuff,
- 26:04Speaker 7: and you know, ramping up a little bit later, trying
- 26:07Speaker 7: to save bullets for you know, the start of the
- 26:10Speaker 7: year and you know, coming into camp being ready but
- 26:13Speaker 7: not too ready saving bullets.
- 26:17Speaker 5: When anybody watches you pitch, they don't want to see
- 26:19Speaker 5: you save bullets. So what does that mean? What does
- 26:22Speaker 5: that mean for you? Because obviously, you know, you don't
- 26:25Speaker 5: get any likes, you don't get any Instagram followers because
- 26:28Speaker 5: you throw a pitch ninety seven miles an hour, But
- 26:30Speaker 5: when you're throwing sliders at ninety seven ninety eight, like,
- 26:34Speaker 5: is there a give and take in that? Like when
- 26:37Speaker 5: you talk about saving bullets, I watch so many guys
- 26:40Speaker 5: it's one hundred percent from pitch one to pitch. However
- 26:43Speaker 5: many they leave them out there. So what's that approach
- 26:46Speaker 5: for you?
- 26:47Speaker 7: I mean, I think it's the same way. I think
- 26:48Speaker 7: it's just you know, I think it's more limiting innings
- 26:51Speaker 7: instead of each pitch. I think when I go out
- 26:54Speaker 7: in the field, I'm not saving bullets. I'm letting it
- 26:56Speaker 7: all the and then I'm giving you the one hundred
- 26:58Speaker 7: percent that I got. And I think I need the
- 27:01Speaker 7: you know, the coaches and other people around me to
- 27:04Speaker 7: slow me down and be like, hey, look, let's get
- 27:07Speaker 7: you out of this game. Let's save you for you know, tomorrow,
- 27:10Speaker 7: next week, whatever it could be.
- 27:14Speaker 3: What does the off season look like for you? What
- 27:18Speaker 3: did you do this off season anything different than you
- 27:20Speaker 3: have done in the past.
- 27:21Speaker 7: No, I mean it was pretty much the same as
- 27:23Speaker 7: what I've done in the past.
- 27:24Speaker 3: And which is what does the miz do for fun?
- 27:27Speaker 3: You come across as a video game guy?
- 27:29Speaker 7: No, really, I haven't played video games since college, so
- 27:33Speaker 7: mostly hunting, fishing, doing all that sort of stuff. But
- 27:35Speaker 7: you know, going into the facility, working out, playing catch,
- 27:39Speaker 7: doing normal normal baseball activities, you know, getting ready for
- 27:43Speaker 7: the season, but no outside of there, like we're going,
- 27:46Speaker 7: you know, maybe to card shop, maybe maybe to go
- 27:50Speaker 7: hunt and fish with some friends.
- 27:51Speaker 6: Good stories, nothing we could share live on.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, what about what about card shopping?
- 27:58Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I mean, uh, with card shopping, it's
- 28:01Speaker 7: it's fun. It's it's always fun to run into fans
- 28:04Speaker 7: and people that are into the hobby with me, and uh,
- 28:08Speaker 7: you know, it's really cool to run into a little
- 28:10Speaker 7: kid that just is amazed that you know, they ran
- 28:14Speaker 7: into a big league player.
- 28:16Speaker 6: It's really cool.
- 28:16Speaker 3: Do you have a card? We asked Bobby with this
- 28:18Speaker 3: the other day, is there a card of yours that
- 28:20Speaker 3: you don't have that you want? I have all your cards,
- 28:24Speaker 3: I don't I don't have all of my Bobby's trying
- 28:27Speaker 3: to get all of his. And there's like some one
- 28:28Speaker 3: of one's refractor gold refractor auto sticker, one on one
- 28:34Speaker 3: jersey something something that he doesn't have.
- 28:36Speaker 6: Yeah, I think I think there's two that I really want.
- 28:39Speaker 7: There's a there's my first Bowman Auto, which is like
- 28:42Speaker 7: the first ever card I had, and that's the one
- 28:45Speaker 7: of one, and then the debut patch would also be
- 28:47Speaker 7: really cool.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Make that offer right here, exactly. Make that offer to somebody.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Whoever has them will give you something. Now you have
- 28:55Speaker 3: to come up with what that's.
- 28:56Speaker 6: I don't know what something would be.
- 28:57Speaker 7: I mean, i'd have to talk to a Oh yeah,
- 28:59Speaker 7: that's that would definitely be a part of it, you know,
- 29:02Speaker 7: Jersey meet and greet tickets.
- 29:04Speaker 6: You know, we'd work something out. It'd be fun.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Don't tell the people I don't have it.
- 29:11Speaker 6: We'll post about it.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Yeah, well, definitely put so here. Talk to the people
- 29:15Speaker 3: and say, Niko Mizerowski wants his one of one debut
- 29:19Speaker 3: patch and he wants his bowman.
- 29:22Speaker 7: Yeah, bowman auto. Yeah, let's make a trade. Let's make
- 29:26Speaker 7: something happen, you know, take it to a Brewers game,
- 29:29Speaker 7: meet and greet, you know, jerseys cleats.
- 29:32Speaker 6: What what you name it. Let's let's make it work.
- 29:36Speaker 5: I mean, as your has your has your card shopping
- 29:38Speaker 5: changed since you made the big leagues, Like, let's not
- 29:41Speaker 5: forget you got a little bump in in your salary.
- 29:44Speaker 5: So have you gone from a different rack to a
- 29:46Speaker 5: different like the sealed boxes to just the sealed cases.
- 29:52Speaker 6: Uh no, not yet.
- 29:54Speaker 7: I know there's some guys in the clubhouse that have
- 29:56Speaker 7: been doing you know the cases, and I'm still going
- 29:59Speaker 7: box to box, so I haven't been going too crazy
- 30:01Speaker 7: with it.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Who else is who else into the cards?
- 30:06Speaker 7: You got Jared, you got McGill, you got uh, you know,
- 30:11Speaker 7: Craig Yoho. You know training is also into cards. You know,
- 30:16Speaker 7: it's really cool to have the guys like that twitch them.
- 30:20Speaker 7: We should, we should, we should live stream it.
- 30:22Speaker 3: But no, it's because then you think about this. If
- 30:24Speaker 3: you do it live right, and you pull out a
- 30:26Speaker 3: card and you're like, show hey, I would want to
- 30:29Speaker 3: show hey one of one car garbage blow up on Twitter?
- 30:34Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, yeah we should. You're let's go.
- 30:39Speaker 5: Let's go to your first love. Some people from our
- 30:41Speaker 5: Crack research team said your first love was catching. Now
- 30:46Speaker 5: you have a big league catcher right next to you,
- 30:49Speaker 5: and you have a minor league catcher talking to you.
- 30:51Speaker 5: What what would it be like for you to say,
- 30:56Speaker 5: you know what, I caught a game in the big leagues,
- 30:58Speaker 5: or I caught this guy bullpen just to like scratch
- 31:02Speaker 5: that itch.
- 31:04Speaker 7: I think that itch is long gone. I think I
- 31:07Speaker 7: think that left me in high school so you could
- 31:10Speaker 7: catch it. Yeah, It's exactly what I'm thinking. So I'm good.
- 31:14Speaker 7: You know, the flat grounds that guys throw me on
- 31:15Speaker 7: the field is plenty enough for me. I'm good with
- 31:19Speaker 7: sticking on the mound.
- 31:20Speaker 3: Do you squat for the flat grounds? Oh yeah, yeah,
- 31:22Speaker 3: to you do the one knee and put the glove down,
- 31:24Speaker 3: try to frame it.
- 31:25Speaker 7: No, no, no, we're just putting the glove up. Hit
- 31:26Speaker 7: me in the glove. Like, what if you ever miss one? Oh,
- 31:29Speaker 7: you just jump out of the way. You just get
- 31:31Speaker 7: out of there. I'm not blocking that up.
- 31:33Speaker 3: But what if I don't know who would be if
- 31:35Speaker 3: someone's like throwing splits or something, they just yank one.
- 31:37Speaker 7: You just full ejected, full ejected. You know, you're diving
- 31:40Speaker 7: out of the way, trying to get a glove on it,
- 31:42Speaker 7: trying to just then you have to make something exactly.
- 31:44Speaker 7: I mean, I either rather chase it than take a
- 31:46Speaker 7: ball off the chest.
- 31:47Speaker 1: So okay, smart, Hey Jacob, I got one more for you.
- 31:51Speaker 1: So you're tall, you can't miss you when you're in
- 31:54Speaker 1: the grocery store at the airport. Whatever it is, right,
- 31:57Speaker 1: and you had a successful first year in the big leagues.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Are you getting recognized quite often these days, especially in Milwaukee?
- 32:05Speaker 1: And I'm sure you've had it in the past, but
- 32:08Speaker 1: now you really have it? Is it weird? How does
- 32:10Speaker 1: it feel to walk around in a place and know
- 32:12Speaker 1: someone's probably gonna come up to you Because there are
- 32:14Speaker 1: some smaller players, like, hey, we just had Bryce to
- 32:16Speaker 1: rang on. I bet you he can get away with
- 32:18Speaker 1: walking through a place and not necessarily being recognized where
- 32:22Speaker 1: it's like everyone looks up and says, oh, that might
- 32:24Speaker 1: that might be an athlete and they're looking like, wait,
- 32:26Speaker 1: I think that's the miss.
- 32:28Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a it's crazy.
- 32:31Speaker 7: I remember, you know, first week we were in Milwaukee
- 32:34Speaker 7: and we were me and my fiance were walking through Target,
- 32:38Speaker 7: just you know, getting groceries, normal stuff, and there's a
- 32:42Speaker 7: little kid and his mom ran up to me. It
- 32:43Speaker 7: was like, are you the miss? And I'm like yeah,
- 32:46Speaker 7: and he's like, I really thought it was you. No
- 32:48Speaker 7: one else is that tall. Like it was just like,
- 32:50Speaker 7: I mean, it's it's crazy. It's a it's really cool
- 32:53Speaker 7: experience have people recognize you like that. But no, I'm
- 32:56Speaker 7: not used to it at all.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Can you dunk?
- 32:59Speaker 6: Yes? I could?
- 33:00Speaker 3: I hope. So you're like six a you better be
- 33:01Speaker 3: able to.
- 33:02Speaker 7: That's also one of the most common questions I get
- 33:04Speaker 7: is people coming up to me.
- 33:06Speaker 6: Can you still dunk like all that stuff. So it's funny.
- 33:08Speaker 3: Can you like three sixty dunk?
- 33:10Speaker 6: Oh?
- 33:10Speaker 7: No, straight dunk, just straight dunk. I mean maybe like
- 33:14Speaker 7: maybe like a flat foot jump up get it, but like, no, no,
- 33:19Speaker 7: three sixty, no tricks with it.
- 33:21Speaker 6: I'm not that crazy.
- 33:22Speaker 3: Like being called the Miz.
- 33:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean it's fun I mean I think you have.
- 33:25Speaker 3: To call the Miz to get the miz nickname. I
- 33:29Speaker 3: haven't guys connected.
- 33:30Speaker 6: Yet, we have not. I would love to. I would
- 33:33Speaker 6: love game. Yeah, it would be so cool. Yeah. I
- 33:38Speaker 6: haven't met the guy yet.
- 33:39Speaker 3: Okay, because you kind of you kind of stole you,
- 33:41Speaker 3: kind of ripped on gimmick.
- 33:43Speaker 6: Yeah, I did it, kind of just got handed to me.
- 33:46Speaker 3: So it was like, that's because they can't say you're Polish.
- 33:49Speaker 6: Last name exactly, yeah, short, yeah, exactly.
- 33:51Speaker 3: That's why I go agent. Yeah, my last name is impossible,
- 33:55Speaker 3: all right, So on the Polish thing, no WBC for you, right,
- 34:00Speaker 3: So whenever the next one is when we get team
- 34:02Speaker 3: Poland and I can't count.
- 34:03Speaker 6: On you, right, I'd be down.
- 34:05Speaker 3: What about twenty twenty eight in the Olympics. If we
- 34:06Speaker 3: can get Polland in the Olympics.
- 34:08Speaker 6: That too, I would be down if yeah, if it
- 34:10Speaker 6: all works.
- 34:10Speaker 3: Out, Pollock's got to stick together.
- 34:12Speaker 6: We do, we do, we do?
- 34:14Speaker 3: Okay, I love it.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Well, miss thank you so much for the time. And
- 34:19Speaker 1: actually a good card. Didn't realize you two hadn't met,
- 34:22Speaker 1: so we can put that out there. He's usually pretty
- 34:24Speaker 1: responsive on social media, so we can work a little
- 34:26Speaker 1: magic and see if we can get him out here
- 34:28Speaker 1: for a first pitch in Milwaukee. I'm sure Mike Vassalo
- 34:32Speaker 1: pr extraordinaire would love that.
- 34:34Speaker 6: Oh my, Michael, figure something out.
- 34:35Speaker 3: So Sello showed me a video of the Honkey talk Man.
- 34:38Speaker 3: Do you even know who the Honkey.
- 34:39Speaker 6: Talk Man is?
- 34:40Speaker 3: I'm okay, So he was like a wrestler forever. He
- 34:43Speaker 3: was a ww like Hall of Fame rast okay, and
- 34:45Speaker 3: apparently Vasselo is super proud because he was a spring
- 34:47Speaker 3: training the other day. So if he can get the
- 34:50Speaker 3: Honkey talk Man, it definitely can get the.
- 34:52Speaker 6: Missed Okay, Okay, all right, we'll see. Let's see who
- 34:54Speaker 6: Mike poll is.
- 34:55Speaker 3: Perfect.
- 34:56Speaker 1: We're gonna help make it happen. Great to see you.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Enjoy the rest of camp and we'll see you during
- 35:00Speaker 1: the season.
- 35:01Speaker 6: Yep, awesome.
- 35:02Speaker 3: Thank you guys, we're in Maryville with Bryce Range, platinum glove,
- 35:07Speaker 3: second basement for the Milwaukee Brewers in a career year. Offensively,
- 35:10Speaker 3: you change your stance a little bit and wam, the
- 35:13Speaker 3: power came, the numbers came. Isn't that easy?
- 35:20Speaker 4: I mean it depends. Sometimes it just takes one thing
- 35:22Speaker 4: to click and you just got it.
- 35:23Speaker 3: Would you change? Can you talk about it? Yeah?
- 35:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I just kind of went back to just doing
- 35:30Speaker 4: what I always have done. I've always been a hitter
- 35:34Speaker 4: who has had a lay kick, like through younger age
- 35:37Speaker 4: in high school, and I came up to the big
- 35:40Speaker 4: leagues with the lay kick, and then I kind of
- 35:44Speaker 4: started dumping a little bit, collapsing and I couldn't hit
- 35:47Speaker 4: the fastball. And then the next year I went to
- 35:50Speaker 4: like a wider bass, more of like a short step,
- 35:54Speaker 4: and I had some success, but it wasn't it was
- 35:58Speaker 4: almost like robotic. And so in twenty twenty four offseason,
- 36:04Speaker 4: I was just like, hey, like, I'm going to go
- 36:06Speaker 4: back to what I do best, like what I've done
- 36:10Speaker 4: my whole life, and which was the lay kick. And
- 36:13Speaker 4: so I started going back to having a lay kick,
- 36:17Speaker 4: being more up tall and then just being super relaxed
- 36:21Speaker 4: and then trying to work on staying behind the ball,
- 36:24Speaker 4: and I think that kind of helped it helped, it
- 36:26Speaker 4: helped it click again for me. And yeah, it was
- 36:29Speaker 4: It was a fun season, And yeah, is it all right?
- 36:33Speaker 5: Did it take three months to make that click? Because
- 36:36Speaker 5: people are like, oh, one thing and it's like the
- 36:38Speaker 5: next day it clicks because we really saw the power
- 36:40Speaker 5: in August. I think you had ten homers of your
- 36:43Speaker 5: eighteen or was it always coming the whole time? Whole
- 36:46Speaker 5: time and then the power just happened to get there
- 36:49Speaker 5: in August.
- 36:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I've I've had power. It was just trying to
- 36:54Speaker 4: tap into it in the game was one of the
- 36:57Speaker 4: things that was always not I wouldn't say like a
- 37:01Speaker 4: struggle for me, but it was just always I was
- 37:03Speaker 4: more of like just a basic guy, take the ball
- 37:07Speaker 4: the other way, and I did that all throughout the
- 37:10Speaker 4: minor leagues as well, So like trying to then start
- 37:13Speaker 4: to pull the ball in the air was a little
- 37:17Speaker 4: difficult for me, and I think I was I was
- 37:22Speaker 4: kind of attacking it at the wrong way instead of
- 37:26Speaker 4: maybe going more towards the middle of the field and
- 37:28Speaker 4: hope I just catch the ball out or not hope,
- 37:30Speaker 4: but try to catch the ball more out in front.
- 37:32Speaker 4: I was just kind of ripping off everything and then
- 37:35Speaker 4: I was laid or I was dragging. So but the
- 37:41Speaker 4: month I had in August, I made a little adjustment
- 37:43Speaker 4: that wasn't too crazy because I was trying to get
- 37:46Speaker 4: the barrel to turn more deeper in the zone and
- 37:50Speaker 4: so I would like really tighten up my grip and
- 37:52Speaker 4: it just wasn't working. And I was still having success,
- 37:56Speaker 4: but I wasn't able to really like even the balls
- 37:59Speaker 4: I got out in front, I was hitting it to center,
- 38:02Speaker 4: and so I would try to tighten it up to
- 38:04Speaker 4: get the barrel to turn when I got it out
- 38:07Speaker 4: in front, and it just I still wasn't getting it.
- 38:10Speaker 4: And so I actually did the complete opposite of what
- 38:13Speaker 4: I thought, and I loosened up my grip very much
- 38:17Speaker 4: so and I actually like started hanging my pinky off
- 38:22Speaker 4: of the bat my top hand. I started hanging like
- 38:25Speaker 4: my pinky on my knuckle, and then I just started
- 38:28Speaker 4: creating like massive whip and then it just clicked for
- 38:32Speaker 4: me where I was able to actually get the barrel
- 38:35Speaker 4: to turn out in front. And then that's when I
- 38:38Speaker 4: had the August and I knew I always had the power,
- 38:42Speaker 4: it was just trying to tap into it in the game.
- 38:45Speaker 5: I saw you when you were a baby spring training,
- 38:47Speaker 5: you were at the end of the dugout coming in seventh, eighth, ninth,
- 38:51Speaker 5: and for as small and a young as a guy
- 38:53Speaker 5: as you were, you had power. I watched the VP,
- 38:56Speaker 5: I remember like, hey, how on earth does he do that?
- 38:58Speaker 5: I went like twice as much as he does. So
- 39:01Speaker 5: you've always been like that. Do you regret changing from
- 39:05Speaker 5: how you were or do you feel like that's part
- 39:07Speaker 5: of your journey as a player, because you're like, I
- 39:11Speaker 5: could have just stayed how I was before and I
- 39:13Speaker 5: would have figured it out.
- 39:16Speaker 4: Yeah, that's definitely. I don't. I don't really regret it
- 39:21Speaker 4: because maybe that's why I'm here today having success that
- 39:25Speaker 4: I had in twenty five was just off of that
- 39:30Speaker 4: learning curve. And you know, nobody wants to fail in
- 39:33Speaker 4: this game, and everybody knows it, but sometimes it takes
- 39:36Speaker 4: you to fail to learn to get your to be
- 39:39Speaker 4: the best version of yourself.
- 39:40Speaker 6: And so.
- 39:43Speaker 4: I mean it could have been a blessing in disguise,
- 39:46Speaker 4: And you're right, like, I don't know, do I did?
- 39:50Speaker 4: I want to fail in those time periods. No, I didn't.
- 39:52Speaker 4: But that's that's like the learning curve that you have
- 39:55Speaker 4: that you have and so and that that could be
- 40:01Speaker 4: why I'm here today and I had the year I
- 40:03Speaker 4: had is because I did have those failures and I
- 40:05Speaker 4: learned from it.
- 40:07Speaker 3: What's it like being the worst athlete in your family? Yeah,
- 40:12Speaker 3: because your dad played in the big leagues, your mom
- 40:14Speaker 3: played in the College World Series, your sisters all played
- 40:17Speaker 3: high level college sports, and then there's you. So yeah,
- 40:21Speaker 3: when you go home, do they say Bryce Man, like,
- 40:24Speaker 3: what are you doing?
- 40:25Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 40:26Speaker 4: When I was younger, for sure, they would. They would
- 40:28Speaker 4: pick on me. They'd they would uh, they would always
- 40:31Speaker 4: be more. They would win at everything when I was younger.
- 40:36Speaker 4: And then now that I'm older, I actually have ten
- 40:40Speaker 4: nieces and nephews now, so they're running around and they're
- 40:43Speaker 4: starting to be competitive and play against each other, and
- 40:47Speaker 4: so it's fun to watch them do that. In our family,
- 40:52Speaker 4: like my sisters, we still play games and stuff, but
- 40:55Speaker 4: not at the level we did when I was a
- 40:57Speaker 4: little younger. But yeah, it's it's so much fun now
- 41:03Speaker 4: being able to see my nieces and nephews go out
- 41:05Speaker 4: there and compete and play like wolf ball or play
- 41:07Speaker 4: tag or whatever. It's really cool. And then obviously my
- 41:11Speaker 4: sisters are stud athletes themselves and they can they can
- 41:17Speaker 4: we could go play something they never played and they
- 41:19Speaker 4: pick it up really quick, So it's always a good time.
- 41:22Speaker 3: Do you think it helped you or maybe or hurt you? Sometimes?
- 41:27Speaker 3: Your dad was a big league baseball player, and does
- 41:29Speaker 3: do you still call him for advice? Like you mentioned
- 41:31Speaker 3: your struggles and what you went through to get to
- 41:33Speaker 3: where you are now, could you pick up the phone
- 41:35Speaker 3: and call him and say, Dad, I know you've been here,
- 41:37Speaker 3: you've done this. What he got for me?
- 41:40Speaker 4: Every day? I call him every day. It's definitely a blessing.
- 41:44Speaker 4: There's no there's nothing about it that I'm like, dang,
- 41:48Speaker 4: that sucks. No, Like I I took everything he said,
- 41:51Speaker 4: I learned from it, and how can I How can
- 41:55Speaker 4: I not?
- 41:56Speaker 3: Like I don't know because I have you know, like, oh, yeah,
- 41:58Speaker 3: for sure listen. I have a son who's in college
- 42:00Speaker 3: and Crawds does too, and there was times where they
- 42:02Speaker 3: didn't listen very well. Yeah, but now after every game
- 42:05Speaker 3: you call and you go basically go through the game. Yeah,
- 42:07Speaker 3: because fortunately I can watch him on you know, the
- 42:10Speaker 3: apps and all that stuff.
- 42:11Speaker 6: Yeah, no, you that with you?
- 42:13Speaker 3: Does he watch every game and call you after and
- 42:15Speaker 3: say Bryce, like that, oh two slider you swung at? Man,
- 42:17Speaker 3: Like what are we doing.
- 42:19Speaker 4: He's he's more of like the the mental approach guy
- 42:23Speaker 4: for me. He's like that the guy I lean on
- 42:27Speaker 4: when maybe I need someone to just tell me like, hey, dude,
- 42:30Speaker 4: you're fine, Like you're not as far as you think
- 42:33Speaker 4: you are. Like hey, dude, like I liked your swings
- 42:37Speaker 4: or or maybe the opposite of like, hey, you're falling
- 42:39Speaker 4: behind an account way too much. And then you're swinging
- 42:42Speaker 4: at pitches that the picture wants you to swing at.
- 42:44Speaker 4: It's like stuff like that. And then obviously he could
- 42:47Speaker 4: go into my mechanics and my swing, but during the
- 42:49Speaker 4: season he doesn't want to get too deep into it
- 42:52Speaker 4: because then he's like, I don't want you to overthink
- 42:54Speaker 4: everything when you go into the game. But yeah, I mean,
- 42:58Speaker 4: it's it's for sure a blessing. And we've obviously had
- 43:01Speaker 4: our scuffles here and there, just hitting in the cage
- 43:04Speaker 4: late nights and he says something I disagree with it,
- 43:08Speaker 4: and then we have a little scuffle, not actually physical scuffle,
- 43:11Speaker 4: but we're talking back and forth and then we work
- 43:16Speaker 4: it out and we ended up we end up working
- 43:18Speaker 4: it out. And now, I mean now at my age,
- 43:21Speaker 4: I mean I don't I don't ever we don't ever
- 43:24Speaker 4: see it. We kind of just agree and keep working at.
- 43:27Speaker 3: Your old age.
- 43:31Speaker 5: Yeah, you're vet, your veteran age. Will he make it
- 43:34Speaker 5: to any of the w WBC games.
- 43:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I believe so. I think he's gonna come out
- 43:39Speaker 4: to Houston.
- 43:42Speaker 5: Is that is that something that you're like, Wow, I
- 43:44Speaker 5: get to represent the country.
- 43:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:46Speaker 5: I get to do it other times, but now I
- 43:48Speaker 5: get to do it like on a different stage. Has
- 43:51Speaker 5: that has that set in? Are you taking like are
- 43:54Speaker 5: you taking these at bats right now? Or you think
- 43:56Speaker 5: about it every once in a while, Like my spring
- 43:57Speaker 5: training is almost over. I get to go play real games.
- 44:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's it's very exciting. I'm really excited
- 44:07Speaker 4: to go. And I was telling somebody the other day,
- 44:09Speaker 4: I said, it's set in as much as it possibly
- 44:12Speaker 4: can right now, and I think when I get there
- 44:14Speaker 4: then they'll hit me even more. To to be around
- 44:19Speaker 4: those guys, around those players, is like, it's definitely something
- 44:24Speaker 4: that you don't take for granted, and you're I'm very
- 44:27Speaker 4: blessed to be in this situation and have this opportunity
- 44:30Speaker 4: to go play. But yeah, definitely thought when I'm out
- 44:34Speaker 4: here taking live at bats and just getting ready to,
- 44:39Speaker 4: uh to go play, and I'm really excited for.
- 44:43Speaker 3: Murph's rich Now has he changed? Has he changed in
- 44:47Speaker 3: the last couple of days since he signed his extension?
- 44:49Speaker 3: Does he like walk in with Caviar and t and
- 44:52Speaker 3: say I can't talk to you guys anymore?
- 44:54Speaker 4: No, No, Murph's not that type of guy. He's he's uh.
- 44:58Speaker 4: I mean, you guys probably have your experiences with Murphy's
- 45:01Speaker 4: He's he's unbelievable. What he does for this team and
- 45:05Speaker 4: this organization is so big. He deserves every bit of it.
- 45:09Speaker 3: That's awesome. Then, you guys lost some people this offseason.
- 45:12Speaker 3: You guys won the most games in baseball ninety seven?
- 45:14Speaker 3: How do you how do you continue that? No, Freddy,
- 45:16Speaker 3: no Durbin, I know, big woos coming back. How do
- 45:20Speaker 3: you guys continue what the Brewers have built, which has
- 45:22Speaker 3: been a really special place with a ton of wins.
- 45:25Speaker 4: Yeah, just kind of controlling what you can. I mean,
- 45:31Speaker 4: that's out of our control. We we can't really control
- 45:33Speaker 4: what those moves are made. You just control what you
- 45:36Speaker 4: can and this is what we have and this is
- 45:38Speaker 4: who we are. So let's go win games. You know,
- 45:42Speaker 4: those guys are Freddie being a r one last year,
- 45:47Speaker 4: you know, going to the Mets, and that's that's part
- 45:51Speaker 4: of the game. And so you gotta you gotta kind
- 45:54Speaker 4: of just move on and go in, go in the
- 45:57Speaker 4: next game and kind of play with the cards you're
- 46:01Speaker 4: dealt with and control what you can, because that's that's
- 46:05Speaker 4: that stuff's out of our control.
- 46:06Speaker 6: We can't.
- 46:07Speaker 4: We can't really say.
- 46:08Speaker 3: If you go deep, are you gonna talk to him
- 46:10Speaker 3: when you run around the bases.
- 46:12Speaker 4: No, absolutely not.
- 46:13Speaker 3: I'm not gonna look at him. No, if just smile
- 46:15Speaker 3: at you, probably.
- 46:16Speaker 4: Won't he No, I don't know. I'm I don't. I
- 46:20Speaker 4: don't like doing that stuff. I think that's that that
- 46:23Speaker 4: might not even do that. No, No, I like Freddy.
- 46:26Speaker 6: I know.
- 46:26Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. That's why it makes it more
- 46:28Speaker 3: fun though, to talk a little trash run around.
- 46:29Speaker 4: The bases after I mean maybe maybe afterwards, after the game,
- 46:33Speaker 4: after the game, but not not not during the game.
- 46:37Speaker 3: Thanks for coming out.
- 46:38Speaker 4: No, thank you guys for having me. I appreciate it.
- 46:42Speaker 4: I've seen you guys
