- 3:07We'll let you know, and this will be one of the new designs that
- 3:10will be debuting on there. So I want to save you. I asked
- 3:15you before the show who designed the shirt? Courtesy of Ben himself. I
- 3:17love it. I happen to do this one. You know. I will
- 3:21take credit for that. Thank you'll very much. So yeah, y'all be
- 3:23able to get this on for all Nerds dot com very soon, right,
- 3:29you know. I had to let him know period, you're pretty much.
- 3:35And the crazy thing is I had a Magneto was right shirt back when Morrison
- 3:39first dropped that line in the Edgemont comic. I've been on that wave and
- 3:45this was before. Like I wore to the mall one day and my mom
- 3:47and one of her friends, well my mom especially, was like, I
- 3:50don't know if that's the shirt. You wear it to them all if you're
- 3:53you know, looking to meet women and stuff, you know. And I
- 3:54was like, that's how you find the right one. And that's what my
- 4:00mom's friend said, you know. She was like, well, he's just
- 4:01looking for his tribe, you know, and those who know will recognize it.
- 4:04That's how you know, how we How else will you know that it's
- 4:10right? Well, yeah, it was wrong back then, but you know,
- 4:13it worked out eventually, so one can't be mad at how it all
- 4:17works out, because we're good now, we're here. Now we're back on
- 4:21for all nerds to talk about X Men ninety seven, as y'all know from
- 4:26all of our X Men related aka's, and of course you already press play
- 4:30and you know what you're here for. So this is episode number six out
- 4:34of ten. There are now only three left. This episode is titled bright
- 4:40Eyes, which is a reference to from the comics several characters. Cable,
- 4:46of course, is usually referred to as bright Eyes because I Gambit at some
- 4:51points has also been referred to as bright Eyes because of his eyes. And
- 4:56it's just a common phrase that comes up in x mend comments a lot,
- 4:59like my friend and wonderbar, you know, whenever night crawled us around or
- 5:05any bad I don't know. Colloquialisms from various languages. I don't know what
- 5:13you call those that Chris Claremont loved to Pepper speech with, you know,
- 5:16like how rogue always say it's sugar and my Yeah. By the way,
- 5:24then I think we're on episodes episode seven seven is bright. Oh, you're
- 5:27right, you're right, you're right, you're right, you're right, you're
- 5:29right. I'm my counting is bad. You know, it's eight nine and
- 5:30ten is left, which well might you might have emotionally erased one episode like
- 5:36all of us did it never happened. We're still in denial. Yeah,
- 5:41it's so funny today when I was rewatching this episode, so I was strolling
- 5:45up through Disney Plus and it's like episode five comes up and I was like,
- 5:48fuck, they really did that, you know, like today again and
- 5:53it's like remember it. You know, it's a title, so it's always
- 5:56like you remember when we did that to your soul? So yeah, we're
- 6:00here on episode seven bright eyes, which ain't very bright. Uh, you
- 6:06know, I want to defer to you know, my guests tonight, and
- 6:09you know how did y'all feel about this episode? We're speechless. Yeah,
- 6:17well, you know, I had a number of reactions. Two things come
- 6:21up for me. One is that they packed so much into this episode.
- 6:27After each scene, I thought, Okay, this must be the end of
- 6:29it, and then uh, and then something else would happen, and then
- 6:31another kid and then a new villain showed up. Like so many things happened
- 6:36in this jam packed episode. I was actually impressed because it didn't feel schlocky.
- 6:42It all had meaning. I'm also, this is totally unrelated. I'm
- 6:46watching Showgun. I've not finished the last episode of Showgun, but similar feelings
- 6:51of like, oh my gosh, that was so much. That must be
- 6:56the last scene of this episode, and then there's more and more. So
- 6:59it's it's definitely a testament to the to the writing that they're able to fill
- 7:05so much into this, you know, this short episode. The other thing
- 7:12is certainly what stands out for me as a psychologist is we're seeing some very
- 7:17real reactions, different reactions to the uh traumatic losses that happened over the last
- 7:27actually episode five, right, So we're seeing now how everyone is reacting,
- 7:32responding processing the loss of two characters, but one character in particular, Gambit,
- 7:41and then the loss of thousands of people on Genosha, and that really
- 7:47wasn't you know. It wasn't lighthearted, it wasn't indirect, it was not
- 7:55subtle. It was very It was confronted and and that's that was hard to
- 8:01watch. It was truly emotional. And it's weird to say I enjoyed it
- 8:05because it was so emotional, but it really you know, there was a
- 8:09moment that we'll talk about probably soon that kind of brought me to tears a
- 8:13little bit, But those are my Those are my two big reactions there.
- 8:18There were several moments that almost brought me to tears, but we'll get to
- 8:22them. Wrong. How'd you feel about the whole episode? Yeah, I
- 8:26definitely agree that there's a lot going on. I mean, if there's one
- 8:28word that they can describe this series, it's probably that it's ambitious, much
- 8:33like sho you know, Showgun isn't a very ambitious show as well. And
- 8:39you know, I respect the writers and the creators behind this series too.
- 8:45They've packed it full of everything from references to the past show you know,
- 8:52easter eggs that comic fans will love, and they don't pull any punches,
- 8:56you know. I think, like doctor Haas said, they really well Episode
- 9:00five was traumatic, Like they made sure it was traumatic to all, to
- 9:03the viewers and the characters, and we're dealing with that. I mean,
- 9:07I will say that once. Sometimes I do feel it's a lot that especially
- 9:13if you're not steeped in the lore of like X Men comics and stories that
- 9:16characters like pop in and out and you know, like Emma Frost for example,
- 9:22you know, we see her and now she's like the Diamond and it's
- 9:24like but if you don't really actually know who she is, if you're more
- 9:28of a casual fan or just like an even new viewer, I feel like
- 9:31a lot of the characters who come in and they die or they do this
- 9:35and that it seems a little overwhelming from a storytelling perspective. And like doctor
- 9:39Drea said, there's a new now there's a new villain, Bastion, and
- 9:41he has a whole backstory. We know from comics what his storyline is,
- 9:46which is it's self convoluted, like the X Men comics are pretty convoluted.
- 9:50But I think that's it. It's fun and I definitely enjoy it, but
- 9:54I also can see that it's not something that if I was sharing with like
- 9:58U, my wife, who doesn't read comments or anything like that, I
- 10:03think she would have dropped by now. I think it would have been a
- 10:05little too much for her to be able to like keep up. Oh man,
- 10:09I disagree. I've been watching with someone and they don't you know nothing
- 10:15and beyond you know my what I told them and watching the MCU and all
- 10:20that they've never read an s Men comic and have never seen their most of
- 10:24the original show, and they love it. And I think the ratings on
- 10:28you know, Rotten Tomatoes, et cetera. Would also say that I think
- 10:31I get what you're saying things that it's one of those shows that rewards people
- 10:37who don't I mean, who have read everything you know and have seen everything.
- 10:43But if you haven't, I don't think it has any problem because this
- 10:46show is fucking hitting on the things that it needs to hit on. Like
- 10:50it introduces you know, you the Gambit, it makes you love him in
- 10:54those four episodes. If you've never known Gambit before, you loved him by
- 11:00the time he gets murdered. I definitely, yeah. I wasn't a huge
- 11:07fan of Gambit from the comics or the nine you two show, and something
- 11:11about the way he's portrayed here. Maybe it was really intentional to get us
- 11:16to just be on his side. But I was starting to dig Gambit in
- 11:22ways I did never think, you know, never thought about before when I
- 11:28was in when I was in ninth grade, I had a friend who had
- 11:33Gambit all over their trapper keeper and the bag back, like they were just
- 11:37obsessed, and I just thought, what is the deal with this Gambit character.
- 11:43I was reading different kinds of comics then I was more on the DC
- 11:46side, but still I was just thought, I'm missing I'm missing out.
- 11:48And now it's like I want to call up that person decades later and say,
- 11:52Okay, you were right. Gambit's awesome. Yeah. I hated him,
- 11:58and I've said before on the show, I just was not a fan.
- 12:01I thought he was a fake ass long shot and a bunch of other
- 12:05things. I just did not like him. And you know, him getting
- 12:07near Rogue, who is like my favorite woman in all the world, was
- 12:11like the wackest thing ever for me. And then the way he's been portrayed
- 12:16on this and even in the comics, you know, over the years I've
- 12:18grown to love Rogue and Gambit, and I loved them together, and like
- 12:22he got murdered in the future and the comics recently. We talked about this
- 12:26on a recent episode and it devastated me. And then this episode came along
- 12:31and you know, won't and so here we are at his funeral to start
- 12:35this one, and yeah, yeah, it's kind of like the way the
- 12:39show treated Cyclops in the first few episodes. See right, Cyclops a character
- 12:43that comics, you know, mixed bag. I think a lot of fans
- 12:46don't like Cyclops, who are Yeah, I've always liked Cyclops, but it's
- 12:52been it. His journey in the comics has been up and down. I
- 12:56think lately a little better. But in the first few you know episodes,
- 13:01he was he was awesome, And so I think this show. If there
- 13:03is one thing the show is doing really well to your point Ben about it's
- 13:07hidden, it's that it's the character development and the relationships and all the relational
- 13:11drama. Like that's what bags men have right where. It's like the relationships,
- 13:16the drama, like all the interpersonal the love triangles, the sex.
- 13:22It's a it's a soap opera. This is a novella right here, going
- 13:26on, Yes, hard Well, I always tell people that, like I
- 13:31always tell people if you've never read a comic Chris Claremont, even though it's
- 13:33a little wordy nowadays for you know, people who aren't readers, like that
- 13:39is one of the best intros to comics ever because it is a fucking soap
- 13:43opera throughout its whole run, and people and the great EDG Men runs are
- 13:48always soap operas. Brent Morrison lean so heavy into that, and then Hickman
- 13:52leans super heavy into it. So you know, gilan Ewing, all the
- 13:56great runs of X Men and to me have always been a soap opera.
- 14:00So this is the same thing. And I really before we dive even deeper
- 14:03into an episode, I really want to shout out because we're on the rewatch
- 14:05and we've talked about it, but the voice actors on this series, and
- 14:09you know, the ones who carried over, like the woman who's been doing
- 14:13Rogue since the original series, are just doing some I mean stunning work.
- 14:18Like we talked about this on an earlier episode, how animation has the ability
- 14:22to go from different moods that I don't. It's very difficult to replicate in
- 14:28live action and for people to accept it. That's what Rodamus Prime said in
- 14:33the earlier episode, that it's very difficult because we haven't been trained to accept
- 14:37that, but animation we're trained to do it. And the way Rogue in
- 14:41this episode goes from raging to crying to acceptance, like Drea was talking about
- 14:46all the different levels of grief, is just super impressive work. I mean,
- 14:52just super impressive work. So I just really wanted to shout to my
- 14:56eld and the after playing Kurt in the Nightcrawler, Oh my god, just
- 15:01you know, just doing it, like dropping bars at Gambit's funeral, pure
- 15:07bars. But yeah, the episode does open with Gambit's funeral, and once
- 15:11again, this was yet another moment we talked about this before where I was
- 15:15like, oh, yeah, this Negro is dead like dead and dead dead,
- 15:18like you know, they are doing the funeral, and this makes me
- 15:22think, like you know, people talk about he might be featured as one
- 15:24of the horsemen of Apocalypse. I really hope not, you know, even
- 15:30maybe it's our last second shot at the end of the season. Maybe,
- 15:35but it's been too much other dealing with grief and all that to cheapen it
- 15:39by just bringing him back. You know. I'm sure the writers will do
- 15:43a great job with it if they do, but I just I'm really,
- 15:48you know, stunned and appreciative that they've you know, that he's been not
- 15:52being dead three episodes and you know, it don't look like he coming back
- 15:56any times. So it seemed like a choice to give us that funeral scene.
- 16:00It's putting the body into the ground. I mean, this is kind
- 16:03of a grim conversation we're having, but for this comic character, you know,
- 16:07and a lot of people will say, hey, you know, in
- 16:11the comics, people they come back, they come back differently, they merge
- 16:17with other identities, all this wild stuff happens. And I think you're right.
- 16:22I don't know that they would put this much effort in the finality of
- 16:26his life ending and how it ended to then cheapen it by bringing him back
- 16:33in this season at least. So it seems like this is going to be
- 16:37the end of Gambit for this season at least. And I just really love
- 16:45I love Nightcrawler so much. I've always been a fan of Nightcrawler. It's
- 16:49some of the work that I do, obviously is about traumatic grief and helping
- 16:52people through, you know, steward them through these transitions, these liminal spaces
- 16:56between between life and death and how we respond to traumatic losses. And for
- 17:04me, at least as a viewer, I felt so comforted by Kurt,
- 17:07like he's the person I need to steward me through this sadness. He is
- 17:12that figure. It's a it's almost this sometimes a mythical sometimes a literative figure
- 17:22who helps us go through one stage to another, one phase to another.
- 17:26And and I thought, I thought, having him, uh, you know
- 17:33lead the procession was was really meaningful and very I was just very comforted to
- 17:38see that. Agree, no, agree, He was really great to lead
- 17:45that, especially just the conflict, the contradiction that he is right like the
- 17:52Catholic Devil is like the conflict we all face internally while as we're watching this,
- 17:57but that this show represents. But going back to Gambit, I have
- 18:02to say, I don't know if it's like the comic book nerd in me,
- 18:03but I will be shocked if Gambit doesn't come back. I think probably
- 18:07this season. I think you're right, doctor Greyle, like they'll probably leave
- 18:11it be. But I mean, like like we thought we know Professor Xel
- 18:15isn't dead. We know Magneto wasn't dead. Like, are the this is
- 18:19it? Like, are they really going to do that to Gambit? I
- 18:22be I would heay for it, but I absolutely do not believe it.
- 18:26I can I don't believe it. In comics, people die and come back
- 18:30all the time. And the fact that we've had Gambit by Marvel Studios for
- 18:34like four episodes and they're gonna be, like I bold if they do it,
- 18:38I will absolutely give them the flowers they deserve. But I am saying
- 18:42it right now. I fully expect to see him back in the future.
- 18:47I think back is relative to like for non comic readers, you know,
- 18:51it would be there's the option of him coming back. There's a one of
- 18:56Apocalypse's Horsemen where he becomes Death and he's not really the old Gambit. It's
- 19:00the same thing that happened to Angel and Archangel, and that could be an
- 19:03option. But like you said, Ron, a lot of the people are
- 19:07coming to this from not reading comics, so that's the thing, and the
- 19:11writers knew that going in that they're not you know, it's like when the
- 19:15MCU, they know most of the people watching it are not coming this from
- 19:18reading comics. So when they put a body in the ground and have a
- 19:22funeral episode, that would really be a lot to just walk back even that
- 19:29season. For me, I think it would, like, like Dre said,
- 19:32like I've lost you know people, I mean recently, both of my
- 19:34parents passed in the last five years, so it's it's been like, you
- 19:38know, seeing dealing with these levels of grief has been personal for me and
- 19:44seeing, you know, watching media like this. So to me, it
- 19:45would really cheapen it for them to just bring it back. And I've really,
- 19:51like y'all said, I really because last week we talked about this too,
- 19:53because I was at a black wedding recently and we were talking about how
- 20:00Kurt Wadener would be the perfect person. We also, you know, were
- 20:03debating whether or not Kurt represents blackness, and we've all pretty much agreed on
- 20:07the episode last episode that he does. But him giving the speech at this
- 20:12funeral was perfect because just last week on the show, we were talking about
- 20:15how him giving a speech at a wedding, a black wedding would be perfect,
- 20:21and Kurt's speech was just so full of bars, all the things he
- 20:23was saying about Gambit. You know, Dambit's tell or was his modesty was
- 20:29just oof? You know it it hit and that's what Kurt is there for.
- 20:34And it's also as a keep stating reference throughout this episode. Kurt is
- 20:38part of his family or Rogue. You know, he's basically roads adopted brother.
- 20:44So Gambit's like his adopted brother in law and they have this relationship that
- 20:48stends beyond the X Men. And it was so great to see that reference
- 20:52so many times in this episode. Yeah, it's a true family affair of
- 20:59the show's all. Oh yeah, so many lines. I really love that
- 21:07Wolverine when he brought up a Greece a lonely war. You know, it's
- 21:11like this episode and is so I mean, we've always talked about it,
- 21:15you know that we talked about the voice actors. The writing is just so
- 21:18stellar the way, like you said, Dre it pass so much into this
- 21:22episode. We open with the you know thing with the funeral, it's hard
- 21:26to even talk about it, and then Wolverine, you know, and then
- 21:29all of them reacting to it and Rogue not being there, and then we
- 21:32immediately cut, you know, like a damn smash cut to where's rogue and
- 21:37Rogue is going ham and we get to see General Thunderbolt Thattius. Isn't it
- 21:42Thattius the Thattius Thunderbolt Ross. I think it's Thatius Ross. Yeah, the
- 21:47guy in the bunker, right, yeah, yeah, that's uh. He
- 21:49comes from the Hult comics, as I mean, he references the Hulk in
- 21:52here. He is one of the Yeah, he is the Red Hulk.
- 21:56He's one of the Hult's nemesiss from I mean they won pretty much. He
- 22:02was there at the Creature of the Haulk like. So he is a longtime
- 22:06Marvel character and it's great to see him in this and also great to see
- 22:08him be not racist. But I don't know what you call that, you
- 22:15know, regionists, I guess when he you know, references and she just
- 22:18a smamp mutan and oh yeah yeah yeah, oh little antie South though,
- 22:23right, yeah, very anti South. And also it's just that, you
- 22:29know, it's once again the writers are references other things. You know,
- 22:33what he wanted to say, you know, just a swamp, you know.
- 22:34But you know, of course she is a white woman, so he
- 22:37can't say that's a smam mutane, which is fine for him. In this
- 22:40case, but as a I mean I'm one of the biggest Rogue fans ever.
- 22:45She was my first character that I fell in love with. Like one
- 22:48of the first comic books I ever read is her introduction when she joins the
- 22:52x Men, or I mean, before she joins x Men and Adventel's annual
- 22:56tim when she steals Captain Marvel's powers for the first time and becomes the road
- 23:00we all know love. So I've been in love with her from day one,
- 23:03and to see her come in and whoop that ass on these you know,
- 23:07military white Men was just a beautiful day for me. Yeah, she
- 23:14really reaches a peak here in this episode. There are some choices that she
- 23:19makes that are very bold, and you can tell she's reached a point of
- 23:27beyond anger, and there's something fulfilling about that, especially if you side with
- 23:33her. As I mentioned, there's a number of reactions we see from a
- 23:36number of people. Kurt's reaction going back to that you know, one of
- 23:41almost you know, spiritual acceptance, right, there's something calm about him.
- 23:48She's on the other end of the spectrum. This is full outrage, like
- 23:52somebody did something and I'm going to finish this, I'm going to take care
- 23:56of this. Enough is enough, and that level of rage there's something sort
- 24:02of relatable and cathartic for us as we see this, like we're in the
- 24:04observation of this, uh like literal catapulting into this military base to find that
- 24:15the person who who wronged her, and it's it's strangely fulfilling, right.
- 24:22We know it's wrong to be this need to have this level of anger and
- 24:25violence, and at the same time, there's some reason to it, and
- 24:27it makes sense see that. That's the and I think that's one of the
- 24:33big debates of this episode is tolerance acceptance, you know, versus resistance,
- 24:41versus not taking any anymore, versus not you know, sitting down and just
- 24:45being like, oh, okay, that's cool. And I think that thing
- 24:48like Rogue is going through her grief, and her grief might make her make
- 24:52some bad decisions, but at the same time, her grief is coming from
- 24:56a place where it's been tested, where they done with Like she says to
- 25:02Ross, you know, you killed the good mutans, you killed the ones
- 25:04who were down with that. Now you left with us. And that's the
- 25:08reality. And that's what we've been talking about on this a lot, and
- 25:11I really love how this, you know, really ties in and it's one
- 25:15of those things people are like, oh, this is so timely, but
- 25:18sadly, it's just always a time, you know, there's always a time
- 25:21when in this world we live in where people are being oppressed, Like right
- 25:23now in the news we see you know, Israel oppressing Palestinians, and so
- 25:29that's become like the big issue. But at all times that we're distressed before
- 25:33right now, there's also huge issues in the Congo. I mean every day
- 25:36in America, there's huge issues. So worldwide, there's always oppression going on.
- 25:41So that this episode and this series has tapping into it isn't that it's
- 25:45timey. It's just that it's always happening mm hmmmm h. And it's it's
- 25:48an interesting permission to feel to also feel upset, to feel angry, to
- 25:53feel helpless, to feel even a sense of numbness to all of it.
- 26:00When we had my show had a panel recently with the show showrunners of the
- 26:06original X Men animated series, and we brought up the concept of how the
- 26:14show lifts up constructs of liberation and that you see a spectrum of positions and
- 26:25perspectives and activities from beasts who's kind of like this, this passive citizen wanting
- 26:33his due process, believing in the eventual tolerance of mutants, all the way
- 26:38to Magneto's really bold and violent fight against the system. You've got to break
- 26:49it in order for it to become better, right, And what I love
- 26:53about X Men ninety seven is that it continues this, uh, these concepts
- 27:00of we're not going to actually tell you the answer, We're not going to
- 27:03tell you what's right. We're going to show you very real reactions and responses
- 27:08to the marginalization and oppression of a whole group of people and how those groups
- 27:17of people or that group of people reacts and responds in different ways in order
- 27:22to find their liberation. And we're not going to tell you what's right.
- 27:25But it's an excellent exercise for all of us who's also who are also struggling
- 27:29with what is the right way to protest? Are we going to gain freedom
- 27:36and liberty with one way, with a more active way, with an invasive
- 27:45way? You know, how do we get this done? And I think
- 27:47this show continues to raise those questions among us and raise the emotions that go
- 27:51along with those questions, and it'll be interesting to see how that's resolved going
- 27:56forward, because to your doctor, Drea, it's like they're raising these really
- 28:03important issues and it is all of them. The X amount are a spectrum
- 28:07of how we would all handle these types of oppressions. But historically shows that
- 28:12are like from a major studio, right, haven't necessarily handled these very layered
- 28:18and complex issues in the best way. I don't blame them. It's like
- 28:22this is mass produced, right, this is pop culture for a reason.
- 28:25It's hard to handle it delicately and in the way that it deserves. And
- 28:29one example that I often think about is the Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
- 28:33I didn't necessarily enjoy the way that the story has not been concluded, right.
- 28:37We're going to see more in Captain America four and all that, but
- 28:41I didn't think I didn't appreciate the way, you know, Sam's journey and
- 28:45all of that was necessarily handled in that show. We don't have to get
- 28:48into all that, but the point being that it'll be interesting. Two.
- 28:52Circling back, Rogue's actions in this episode have to have worldwide consequences, right.
- 29:00She is attacking a military highly you know, armed military installation and threatening
- 29:07high level military individual that can't go by right, it's all recorded. It's
- 29:12her strength is impressive and on display. So that's going to necessitate a reaction
- 29:18from you know, humans, a violent reaction as we've seen when in the
- 29:22real world and things like that happen. Uh, the of course controversial action
- 29:26where she uh you know, drops trask like that has to have consequences and
- 29:32so how are they going to handle that? And you know, I have
- 29:36to laugh then, you know, you made a great point about like this
- 29:37is just a reality. It's not just timely, it's all time. And
- 29:41I think that was reflected a little bit when we see that she are like
- 29:45talk about Earth and like I think like they called it a ghetto or something,
- 29:49you know, they were just like that like lowly world, because that
- 29:52is that's where we're at. We're in this era of the world where it's
- 29:56like constant conflict and and you know, in humanity to each other. So
- 30:00I laughed at that moment in the show. And it's not subtle when when
- 30:06they imply that how one x Men is seen in the media and by the
- 30:11mainstream you know culture, all x Men are going to be seen that way.
- 30:15So you're sort of getting into the the pitfalls of how one one person
- 30:26in their own right, feeling how they want to feel, acting how they
- 30:30want to act now has to contend with me, Well, you're representing the
- 30:33entire group to the entire world, and this is what you want to show.
- 30:37And Rogue is at a point where she's like, that doesn't bother me,
- 30:41not an issue? Well, like the whole the world is a ghetto.
- 30:47You know, there's a whole album by the group War, So that's
- 30:48been a thing, like we said, like or like I said, this
- 30:51is not timely, it'stad. It just always is happening. That War made
- 30:55that album in nineteen seventy. So for the she Lady calls the ghetto right
- 30:57now, is not bar I was like, yeah, sure of course it
- 31:02is. Also, Dre, you brought up something that just made me think
- 31:06because I've rewatched the whole or most of the original X Men we were talking
- 31:08about before, and that is wild, Like the journey that they're even doing
- 31:12with Beasts, because I remember that was on the original series, right when
- 31:15Beast sits in jails like oh no, I'll just sit here and wait for
- 31:18all of us me out, I mean, for you know, due process
- 31:21to happen. And now to the point where he's like about it seems like
- 31:26we're headed down the road for comic readers of the Beasts that we know in
- 31:29the current X Men run where he starts to do whatever is necessary to save
- 31:33mutant kind and that involves a lot of treacherous and really downlo and dirty shit,
- 31:37and it seems like we're headed down that path from the Beast who was
- 31:41at one point doing his best to be you know, the key between human
- 31:47and mutant relations. Absolutely, he has many moments in the original show where
- 31:52he's showing himself as is genuinely interested in due process. In this however,
- 32:01ideal it is this idea that they can coexist with non mutants and a willingness
- 32:07to use medit even like literal meditation, patience, education, mindfulness, and
- 32:16a strong belief that equality will prevail. And it's it's interesting that we kind
- 32:25of see that deteriorate in such a like in a long form because you know,
- 32:31episodes and seasons later, there's a subtlety to it. He's starting to
- 32:37kind of you know, change and transition away from that ideology and he's still
- 32:45himself. I love Beasts. Actually, I hope there's actually wanted to see
- 32:52more of him in this episode where he's interacting with with Patricia toil Be,
- 33:00the journalist who you know who together they have this chemistry or they've had chemistry,
- 33:07and in this episode she says a few things that concern him about her,
- 33:14her true motives and maybe her true feelings about mutants. And there's just
- 33:20these little subtleties that I love in this episode. When she approaches him on
- 33:24Genosha, Beast closes the curtain where we have these survivors, the wounded,
- 33:31the injured, the folks on their you know, deathbed. He closes the
- 33:36curtains so that, you know, I had to think on this, Is
- 33:38that so she didn't have to see the you know, the grotesque part of
- 33:45this war. Or is it that there's a camera there and he wanted to
- 33:47protect these mutants behind the curtain. You know, could be multiple things,
- 33:52but just that little subtle move I thought was just so yeah, just so
- 33:59nice to see coming from Beast's psychology. This is a character who thinks about
- 34:04the well being of everybody. He's such a sensitive, such a highly emotionally
- 34:07intelligent mutant and he's got this connection with her and we start, yeah,
- 34:15we start to kind of see his sense of just his worldview change a little
- 34:22bit after this, around who he can trust and what the right path is.
- 34:27Yeah. I love Beasts as well, but I was not down for
- 34:30Tricia's shit in this episode. I thought you were going purely on that bullshit
- 34:35like that, you know, let's be patient and shut out shit like,
- 34:37bitch, you are standing in a mass grave and you know the time for
- 34:42patients is far from over. I'm sorry, you know, no, So
- 34:46I was not down for her at all in this one. She it was
- 34:51that, like you said, there's a it's like the episode like they're not
- 34:55trying to make you draw a line or you know, say which side is
- 34:59right. But at the same time, it's like they are standing again in
- 35:02a mass grave and she walks up and it's like, hey, maybe you
- 35:06know, chill out on the revenge tip or you know, even on the
- 35:08protest, and you know, just sit there and be quiet. You know.
- 35:12I don't know, man, I don't know fair fair Yeah, yeah,
- 35:17and I think she represents like somebody who could have their heart in the
- 35:22right place. I mean, I think we saw at that moment of genuine,
- 35:24like physical affection towards beasts, right, And there's the moment to Drea's
- 35:30point, like beast pulls a curtain on the injured. And then also when
- 35:34she comes she tells the camera person like to go away, like she's not
- 35:37trying to make a spectacle out of it. And so I appreciated that.
- 35:40But yeah, even despite the fact that she has the best intentions and a
- 35:45genuine affection for beasts, like, her perspective is still not necessarily on point
- 35:52and fully empathizing and really understanding what it's like to be a mutant in that,
- 35:55like you said, Ben Graveyard, like a truly catastrophic Evan. She's
- 36:01still thinking, like you said, be patient, be do the right thing.
- 36:06Bitch people. She said, she no, like I said, I
- 36:13love beasts. I love Trish, but it just was not the time for
- 36:16it. And she was the type of character of me right now who would
- 36:20have voted for Obama three times, Like you know, she's very And I
- 36:23hate when people dog on liberals and they're like, oh liberals, I'm like,
- 36:27well, what's the alternative? You know, A conservatives ain't much better.
- 36:30But in this case, I really do feel that where it's like she
- 36:34has that position of what most modern day liberals would be like, oh no,
- 36:37you know, just wait and chill. And we distressed this before on
- 36:42the series. That like, because I've been distressing this series and that's why
- 36:45I love about it. I've been talking about the mad People and just not
- 36:49it related to Edgeman themes. And I was like, well, you take
- 36:52a case of someone like that Turner, and when that Turner, you know,
- 36:54did his vote, he murdered. Mad people slaughtered him in the middle
- 37:00of the night. You know, it's a gruesome. But Nat Turner was
- 37:04revolting against slavery. You know, what were his options sit there and play
- 37:12nice. This is what Beast is really, you know, opening up to
- 37:19is is thinking to himself, maybe processing his his own decisions. Right.
- 37:25I've I've done the city, I've sat in jail passively, I've done the
- 37:32I've waited for due process, I've you know, collected and healed my my
- 37:37community members. I'm waiting for my justice and it's not coming. And for
- 37:45him to to look around at essentially what you said, this graveyard, this
- 37:52this massive trauma site and think you know, I can't. I something's got
- 37:58to change. I can't tolerate this kind of loss anymore. At what point
- 38:02do I, you know, at what point do I need to change my
- 38:06worldview for someone as you know, experienced as Beast is. I think that's
- 38:14what we're meant to see. My guess is that we are meant to see
- 38:19that shift in him. And again there's not going to give us the answers,
- 38:22but just kind of see him dismiss this woman who is essentially being like,
- 38:27you know, calm down, like maybe don't be so loud. You
- 38:30know, it's we all know that person, right, Yeah, but you
- 38:36know, maybe if you could do this quietly, it's no, this is
- 38:40this is not a quiet This is not a quiet war mhmm. Yeah.
- 38:49That that's how I bead a second for that one. But also I really
- 38:52love, like you said, Beasts is just such a great character and so
- 38:55many great lines in the episode. I really love him referencing mister famous quote.
- 39:01You know, look for the helpers. We've talked about that many times
- 39:05on this shows that oftentimes in film and media, whenever you see disasters,
- 39:09you know, it's like no one wants to help it. Turns on the
- 39:13riots, et cetera. And that's just not numerically the case, historically the
- 39:16case. That's not the case in every disaster. There's more people helping than
- 39:21there are harming, and it's just not shown the media because that's not exciting.
- 39:24So that was very dope for me. And mister Rogers had said that
- 39:29quote way before nine to eleven, but it was he definitely referenced it again
- 39:32in nine to eleven, and so it shows that that's the level of tragedy
- 39:37to the mutants in the world is dealing with in this episode, Like we
- 39:40see this in this episode, and I thought that was such a great moment
- 39:44when later on, when Rogue is going through it, we see the reactions
- 39:49to this tragedy in Genosha are hitting people who don't even live there, Like
- 39:52people are having memorials to people who they lost to you know, probably had
- 39:55traveled to Genosha for a better life, you know, to realize this dream
- 40:00to be calm and quiet, and that's the fun shit. You know.
- 40:05It's like Christ is like, yo, be calm and quiet, and that's
- 40:07what they were doing. You know, they're buying ten dollars apples over there,
- 40:10they were doing their best to you know, like live away from shit.
- 40:15They dealing with ten dollars apples again, just so they don't have to
- 40:19deal with this hate. And then you know, you still come over there
- 40:22and murder them in mass so the yeah, I'm I'm past that calm and
- 40:27quiet. You know, I'm a spectrician. You know, sorry for calling
- 40:30you oat your name earlier, but nah, man, you wil you're out
- 40:32here, you out here. Why that's the story of the X Men,
- 40:39right in comics, it's the constant struggle of how do we survive? Do
- 40:44we exist? Do we dominate? Do we have Genosha, do we have
- 40:47krakoa Arocco? Like, yeah, of course we know there can never be
- 40:52a solution because the story is ongoing. But also that's the constant struggle,
- 40:57that's the human condition, is that you know, there will all be the
- 41:00oppressors and there is no method or form that is acceptable that will allow us.
- 41:05And you know, as an Asian American, that's something that my community
- 41:07always struggles with, right being very white adjacent and like being the model minority
- 41:14and like hey, let's let's behave, let's be appropriate, Let's be the
- 41:16ones who don't make you know too much noise, and then they'll accept us
- 41:21and despite all the history to the to the contrary, but that that is
- 41:28the story of the X Men. And so again I'm very interested to see
- 41:30how this will be handled going forward, because we need to see how Professor
- 41:36X and Magneto and the team as it splinters. Inevitably there will be splintering
- 41:40and changing sides and all the drama that we've talked about, Like, it's
- 41:45going to be very interesting to see how all that plays out. Janosha is
- 41:50is that kind of like study of a libration movement? Because you know,
- 41:54I don't know if is it Leech. It's one of these Sadly, it's
- 41:58one of these characters who thought they had found the experience of liberation and even
- 42:06your place of sanctuary is violated and you know, and and made into a
- 42:13war war zone. And I don't know if we're meant that in one of
- 42:16those moments of kind of like memorializing some of the fallen X Men, there's
- 42:22a picture of Leech. Yo. They did not need to do that.
- 42:29It really stuck it to us, like, yeah, all right, this
- 42:32is like as a commic reader, Leech is another one of my characters,
- 42:37dog Like. I think the very the very first issue of X Men I
- 42:42ever read is the issue It's a famous cover where Wolverine is holding Energizer,
- 42:46one of the members of Powerpack, a maybe eight year old girl up and
- 42:51he's got his claws out and the rest of the Powerpack or flying at her,
- 42:54trying to save her, and it's you know, I picked that up,
- 42:57like what the fuck is this about? You know, and so I
- 43:00loved it. And Leech is heavily featured on that issue, and then I
- 43:02became a big fan of him, and he's all over Powerpack and I love
- 43:07that series. Shout out to Louis Simonson, one of the great architects of
- 43:10the X Men, who doesn't get enough shout out and love. So I'm
- 43:14giving it to her a lot lately. And you know, I love Leech.
- 43:19And they really doubled down, like, no, this man is double
- 43:22dead, nigga, like you thought getting back. Leech is not coming back.
- 43:27Let's just say that, that's what I mean. There's no hopeful Leech.
- 43:29There's no like, oh who you gonna you know, like Apocalypse is
- 43:32not looking at that man and being like, let me make you a horseman.
- 43:35No, and Leech did nothing to any like Leech has not done a
- 43:39thing to anybody. Maybe stolen apple one time, maybe, Yeah, I
- 43:46mean they were ten dollars, you know, bad to that and yeah,
- 43:50so they and Calisto, like these are characters. I love Calisto, I
- 43:53love Carlisto, like you know, like these are my first issues. Oh
- 43:59no, they had more world of her ass too. She was double dead
- 44:01too, And I mean that's a story for the more. The Morlocks who
- 44:05already said we have to literally live underground because we can't pass. And for
- 44:10them for their whole people to be decimated like this, this is tough,
- 44:15and this ain't the first time, right, Like they referenced the muteon massacre,
- 44:20I'm not sure that the Mute massacre actually happened in the cartoon like that
- 44:24the Morlocks did slaughtered and have to leave their tunnel and then go to Genosha.
- 44:30I don't know. If they did that in original series, that'd be
- 44:31pretty I don't know. I don't remember. Yeah, I don't remember that
- 44:35either, but you know, and it's still cannon for the comments whatever,
- 44:37And they're in Genosha. So they left the tunnels in New York, so
- 44:40there was a reason for them to leave the tunnels in New York. So
- 44:44they probably got slaughtered more than once. And damn, I just said that.
- 44:51Rpots on some bright spots. Amelia Void Vaught I think I'm not sure
- 44:58how to pronounce our last name shows up in this episode. She's in Genosha.
- 45:01She was the doctor who we see turned from vapor and she was a
- 45:06member of the Alkalites, which is this one of Madnito's what's the word,
- 45:13henchman not even cronies. Yeah, cronies that think they are goons. Yeah,
- 45:20goons, that's what they are, some of the Manito's goons. But
- 45:23before that, in Commons history, she helped form the x Men with Professor
- 45:28and dated him, you know, for a time. But because he's a
- 45:31trifle ass, you know, may you know, that didn't go right.
- 45:35So there she is, you know, the shout out, and she's not
- 45:39holding it together. I mean, would you no, Well, she's I
- 45:44mean, she makes a really good point. I actually liked her role here.
- 45:47She loved it. She's essentially saying, like, even for the folks
- 45:52helping, like the the nurses and the health providers, and these folks doing
- 45:59this first response, the first tier after a critical event like this. She
- 46:06makes a comment about whether even surviving is worth it given the amount of pain
- 46:14that she's in, the amount of emotional pain that she's in, and I
- 46:16thought that, you know, again, this is an animated show, and
- 46:20they're really telling us all the different pieces and parts of what happens after a
- 46:25trauma like this. Somebody had mentioned to me that this this Genosha event sort
- 46:32of divides the series or sorry, the season into two parts, and it's
- 46:36almost like a nine to eleven event, and after that event, you will
- 46:40see the you know echos, the aftermath, what the echo trauma that happens
- 46:47following this big global you know trauma, and we may never be able to
- 46:55mentally kind of get back to where we were in the in the first half
- 46:59of the season. So it's meant to pivot us into the different storytelling,
- 47:06but it did so in such a very real way with all these different perspectives.
- 47:14Ron Ron said, he'll be right back, Okay, Well then on
- 47:19that note, Yeah, No, what you were saying is something I really
- 47:22definitely fully appreciated understanding. I think this like, because I'm at a different
- 47:28stage my grief, even though grief is one of those things where you go
- 47:30back and forth through all these different stages, and I've really been there,
- 47:35like for a time after my mother passed and then my father passed last year.
- 47:40For a time after both of them, it was just I could not
- 47:44see a point in going on, Like I just felt like, what is
- 47:47the point in doing anything? When I felt like a lot of my life
- 47:52I was always doing things to make them happy or make them proud, And
- 47:54then it was just like, what's the point, you know, I don't
- 47:58have my mom, who I talked to all the time. I'm like,
- 48:00it just felt weird, like it was like why do anything? And it
- 48:04was a real struggle for me to do anything for those years and throughout the
- 48:08years, and so that's something that I really I just really appreciate the show
- 48:14for what it's doing, for how grown it is, And I've talked about
- 48:17that on Twitter and stuff, is like I really hope that everyone, you
- 48:22know, not just adults who grew up on the first series, but kids
- 48:25as well, are watching this because it really is doing the work and showing
- 48:30these themes in a relatable way that I feel like anyone can digest and it's
- 48:37not too adult where they can't watch it, so maybe older kids maybe,
- 48:40maybe not. I mean I was watching Robotech Man at like seven, so
- 48:45you know, I saw Roy Foker get shot and then come home to his
- 48:49woman and die in front of her, so you know, I don't know,
- 48:52you know, and a Kira followed me at like a that is intent
- 48:59and is it kind of a different animal. But yeah, but Roy Foker,
- 49:02I mean, Robotech was like and then Robotech had you know, Roy
- 49:06Foker's in an interracial relationship. So Roy Foker was fucking me up as a
- 49:10kid and then he gets killed. You know, I love Roy like you
- 49:14know, and then it's like, no, this is life. All people
- 49:16you love will die. And well what you what you just said is is
- 49:21so is so important when it comes to media engagement. You know, people
- 49:27wonder if you look at your Captain America shield and the comics behind you,
- 49:31and people may wonder, like, what is what is really the purpose of
- 49:37all of this this connection that we have, and what you just said is
- 49:43really where it's at. There's such a meaningful and available emotional connection to these
- 49:52characters into these stories, and when we engage with media like this, it
- 49:57does help us heal, It gives us a nar arrative, it gives us
- 50:00language, it gives us some even emotional modeling, and all of us are
- 50:06going to find someone in there. Maybe it's Beast, maybe it's Nightcrawler,
- 50:10you know, maybe it's Jean Gray, maybe it's you know, one of
- 50:15these. Uh. Maybe we feel like we're kind of in the background there,
- 50:22but we are what what's the guy that can multiple multiply Jamie maddress the
- 50:30multiple man? Lots lots of him there. But it helps us to kind
- 50:35of wrestle with the uncertainty and the unexplained, and it just, you know,
- 50:42it gives us that moment to just process that. And that's really sophisticated
- 50:45stuff. Is it for children? I think that it really depends on what
- 50:52they're seeing. Some of the stuff they may not may not even pick up
- 50:54on, and some of the stuff when they're older, they'll realize, oh,
- 50:59that's what that meant. Why do you close that curtain? Now?
- 51:00I get it, Now I get what he was trying to do. Yep,
- 51:05No, definitely, yeah, I don't know that that is a debate.
- 51:09Like I definitely grew up watching a lot of things you know that probably
- 51:14maybe I shouldn't have seen, but at the same time it was just it
- 51:16was informative and it did help me. And then, like you say,
- 51:20these things, seeing stuff like this, like the people have been referencing the
- 51:24post nightclub shooting nine to eleven, all those different things. But at the
- 51:29same time, it's also so great about very personal themes like I was talking
- 51:34about, like the loss of my parents. I can definitely relate to this
- 51:37because it's that loss of one person. It's like the loss of leech like
- 51:40people. It goes back to even what the Joker said in the Dark Night.
- 51:44You know, when it's a bunch of people, you're like, oh,
- 51:46whatever, But when it's someone, you know, that's when it hits
- 51:50you. And so that's why I really love this show and how it's you
- 51:52know, showing all these different facets of it and all these different sides.
- 51:57And then it also has what Ron is talking about, like all these different
- 52:00sides to resistance, and it relates to all these different areas where it's all
- 52:06these different people like you know, Ron, as you said, as an
- 52:08Asian American and me as a Black American. It's like we have different you
- 52:12know, histories and cultures and things of that nature. But we also have
- 52:15things we relate to on the same thing, and we are all being pretty
- 52:20much oppressed by this same you know, toxic whiteness and this culture that we
- 52:24all exist in. Mm hmm, this fight for power. It's something that
- 52:31you said also lifts up the concepts of like someone's identity development as they work
- 52:38with being a mutant. And this is all through the lens the perspectives and
- 52:45the friendships that Ju really has, and we see even in this jam packed
- 52:49episode, there's also a scene in here about oh gosh, what's her boyfriend's
- 52:54name? Did you Roberto? Robert? Yes. He essentially comes out to
- 53:00his mom and initially mom is like, oh, we knew, Oh honey,
- 53:07we knew, we knew this whole time. We're just waiting on you
- 53:10to be ready, and you you have a sigh of relief. And then
- 53:14she says, yeah, and now, now how do we keep this private?
- 53:20No one's got to know about this, and you're just like, god,
- 53:22damn it, like we thought. I asked so many questions about that
- 53:30scene. Are there questions? I mean, it's pretty no. My My
- 53:35big question is like, how the hell does she think that they gonna keep
- 53:39it quiet. When this man walked in there with a member of the X
- 53:44Men in Focasta with her rings that say, I mean her ear rings and
- 53:47say Jubilee on them, and she said, you're the you're one of the
- 53:51X Men. She knew, she knew. She's like, I recognize you
- 53:55well. I mean, but you make a good point, because how are
- 53:58we going to keep this private? I don't know, violence like money,
- 54:05I guess, I mean, right right, this is a very powerful figure.
- 54:10I'm not sure how much we'll get into it in the next few episodes.
- 54:14His family comes from notoriety and wealth, and they are very well recognized.
- 54:20There's no way that this mom is going to let her child, you
- 54:24know, mess with their reputation. So this is such a powerful scene and
- 54:34you know, again there's no subtlety to it. The family dynamic is right
- 54:37in our face, and we see the reactions of these young folks so so
- 54:44proud and boldly, you know, coming forward with our identities and you know,
- 54:51being authentic and who they are and saying, you know, all we
- 54:53need is your acceptance. And it's like a double edged sword. You know,
- 54:58you'll get my acknowledgment but you won't have my acceptance. And then also
- 55:02while it's like that's something about the show that we talked about before as well
- 55:07that I don't want to say balthers me. But sometimes I'm like, damn,
- 55:10this shit is heavy handed. But then I also might, well,
- 55:13damn, this show needs to be heavy handed because people just don't get it.
- 55:16And then even while it's being heavy handed, like you said, this
- 55:20scene is very direct, very upfront. The family dynamics are very established.
- 55:23It's also subtle in its way, like the butlers tell them non alcoholic dreams
- 55:30will be served for you. No alcoholic sprintzers for you kids. Your mom's
- 55:35having wine in the afternoon. Though soon soon as she walks in she guzzles
- 55:39that joint, you know, I mean as soon as they walk in,
- 55:43she guzzles their glass of wine, then lays down the law to them.
- 55:46And then it's like sprintzerr for you little kids, you know, because I
- 55:51just told you, as an adult, what's gonna happen here? Yeah,
- 55:54yeah, so so interesting. Yeah, she's probably self medic. You think,
- 56:04well, she's got this like high rise, you know, they have
- 56:06this high rise home or condo or whatever, and she's surrounded by these windows.
- 56:10It's clearly not near five o'clock. It's like eleven am. Yeah,
- 56:16early in the morning, and she is getting faded and drake that whole glass,
- 56:21and the services are like afternoon wine, Like it's no problem. You
- 56:24know, this is the daily operation around here. So m m no.
- 56:29Definitely self medicated, Definitely drama with the father who in the comments is usually
- 56:34a bit of a strum bag. So yeah, you know I like that.
- 56:38I like this this one. You know, again I mentioned it's a
- 56:42soap opera. This is one storyline that's going to take us through the drama
- 56:46of this family. But you know, surrounding this conflict is again a reminder
- 56:53of what it's like to be a mutant in this world. This is a
- 57:00character who can actually pass, or at least now can work through showing foregrounding
- 57:07different characteristics and features that don't tell people right away. You know, it's
- 57:13not like Beast. I talk about this a lot on the Arkham Sessions,
- 57:15Like you've got someone like Beast who's not even wearing a shirt because he's like,
- 57:21why why I'm a blue furry, Like, you know, I'm four
- 57:27hundred and something pounds, probably I'm a monster by all appearances. Nothing you
- 57:31can yeah, nothing you can put on him to deny that. And then
- 57:37you've got other characters. You know, you have characters like Morph who can
- 57:44actually manipulate their physical features, and then you have characters who can foreground certain
- 57:51features and therefore navigate through this very segmented, oppressed system in ways that you
- 57:59know, Look, he actually is privileged. This is a kid that comes
- 58:02from a privileged family. And he's like, I'm not going to give that
- 58:05up. That's why would I do that? Why would I give up this
- 58:09level of benefits to then identify with a group of people that are being persecuted.
- 58:16And it's again for us, an exercise in yeah, what you know?
- 58:22What about that? There are people who can do that? And are
- 58:25they in service to their peers, to their community members? How can they
- 58:29be in service to their community members? And I think that's you know,
- 58:35another part of the of the narrative that helps us think about some of these
- 58:40some of these themes in our lives now. It really is, And I
- 58:46think that's it's something that they the showrunner even had to defend sun Spot being
- 58:53so light stand on this show, and that's something that has been an issue
- 58:58with Sunst's character throughout the comments throughout his history is that he's consistently been portrayed
- 59:04lighter and lighter since he was first introduced, where he was definitely an Afro
- 59:07Latino, you know, there was no doubt about it, and then as
- 59:12he gets lighter and lighter, it's been an issue. But I think that's
- 59:15works, especially in this series, as you were talking about, because Sunspot
- 59:19is the character who can pass, and so it made to like a case
- 59:22for a representation of a lot of things, and I think one of them
- 59:25is like queerness, where it's like there are people who can just you know,
- 59:30be like, now, okay, I don't have to, you know,
- 59:32represent my queerness to the world, and I can just draw about my
- 59:36day, you know, and that's what his mom is asking him to do,
- 59:39while there are people like Beasts who Beasts more represents someone like we I
- 59:44talked about this before, like I'm one of the people who were like,
- 59:46when it comes to white people with dreads, you know, they can just
- 59:49cut their dreads off and have a normal, you know, a white person
- 59:52life, while me, if I cut my dreads off, I'm still a
- 59:53black person and that's where Beasts is at on the spectrum. Beasta is like,
- 59:58no matter what I do, I'm still you know, while his mom,
- 1:00:01well, sunspots mom was like, you don't have to be Sunspot,
- 1:00:05you know, and Sunspot is doing to probably lean away where he's like,
- 1:00:07no, I have to be Sunspot. This is who I am, you
- 1:00:10know, and you're wrong, and my friends over here are representing that.
- 1:00:15Well, at least I hope he's going to find his way. Yeah,
- 1:00:19that's that's a different journey. You never know, because Sunspot's down both ways
- 1:00:24into comments as well. So yeah, well, and you know, again
- 1:00:30that represents a segment of mutants that have that choice, and so it really
- 1:00:37layers on really important concepts like you meet one mutant, you haven't met them
- 1:00:40all, you know, like you you cannot generalize and stereotype based on the
- 1:00:45one mutant that you know or have met. And that's what this third character
- 1:00:51in the story is always the media, and since the comics, right,
- 1:00:54media has been this other force of the system that's in a lot of ways
- 1:01:04villainizing X men mutants rather and showing the worst of the worst, you know,
- 1:01:10Saber Tooth ransacking the city and going through and creating chaos and destroying buildings
- 1:01:16and breaking windows and you know, breaking into establishments. That's the mutant that
- 1:01:22the news is going to show. And so then people develop these ideas and
- 1:01:29these you know, widely generalized concepts about mutants that are just false. But
- 1:01:37that's what the media wants to do, right, And I think that it's
- 1:01:42you know, we see that in this episode too. There's always the constant
- 1:01:45lens of the constant figure of the media trying to shape shift what the story
- 1:01:52is. And that's a very sophisticated idea. I don't know if a lot
- 1:01:55of kids are going to pick up on that, but I think a lot
- 1:01:58of adults pick up on there's a camera showing us the war zone or the
- 1:02:02conflict or you know, these these groups of people are, how are they
- 1:02:07going to tell this story? Well, I think that also it comes up.
- 1:02:13I think, like we said, there's a lot of things that you
- 1:02:15know, where a kid watching this isn't going to get it, but when
- 1:02:16an adult watches it, they're going to get it. Like the conversation between
- 1:02:21Cyclops and the president is such a reflection of you know, what we see
- 1:02:24every day where a president and We're in an election year this year, so
- 1:02:29it really hits home where a president is going to do or say whatever they
- 1:02:31can to stay elected, and their excuse is going to be, well,
- 1:02:35I'm the better of two evils, and Stot's like, look, you're both
- 1:02:38evil to me, you know, And it just yet another classic line in
- 1:02:43this show is my man talked about the opted to the situation when he's talking
- 1:02:45to a man who shoots opted beings out of his eyes. Just pure classic
- 1:02:51right there. So you know, it's all reflected, and like you said,
- 1:02:53there's a lot of things that the kids won't get that the adults will
- 1:02:58get. And I think that's intentional obviously, and I think it works in
- 1:03:01this show's favor and it's just one of the strengths of it. And like
- 1:03:06you said, we were talking about this before the episode started, where I
- 1:03:08was like, I'm not the biggest fan of the original series, but I
- 1:03:13think it's more the limitations that the original series had, because as we're talking
- 1:03:16about it, they had Beasts going through those things, you know, and
- 1:03:21I remember watching it, I was a beast is such a sellout? You
- 1:03:23know. At the beginning of the show, I'm like, what this clown
- 1:03:27talk about due process and shit, you think you are a blue beast,
- 1:03:30Like, ain't no due process for you, ever, dog, ain't no
- 1:03:34due process for me? And I'm at least human looking like fam you got
- 1:03:37no chance. So but now you know, seeing his growth and seeing the
- 1:03:43subtleties of all that is really nice, and knowing what they were working with
- 1:03:47them, even showing that, like you said, they were showing all the
- 1:03:51different sides. Here's Beast, a dude who obviously don't look human, but
- 1:03:54he's trying his best to make it work. And you know, they even
- 1:03:59tried to break it out. Magneto busted through that prison and Beast was like,
- 1:04:03that's what I was like, now I'm done with there's something and I
- 1:04:13had a different reaction. I think for me, there there was something quite
- 1:04:18resilient about that. But again it's because of the strong held belief, this
- 1:04:25willingness to believe in a system that is just, and because Beast is so
- 1:04:30well read and so intelligent and has studied so well, there's this part of
- 1:04:34his brain that believes that, you know, at some point we can reach
- 1:04:39this, Like you know, I'm about to be on trial for something that
- 1:04:43that I'm not responsible for there there's a sense of for me at least,
- 1:04:50this relatable sense of like, if I just educate myself and and access all
- 1:04:57the information that white folks have, if I just get the letters after my
- 1:05:00name, if I just gain access to the spaces and buildings and positions,
- 1:05:05get me in the room, you know, like, I'll make them believe
- 1:05:10me. And you know, Beast is going through that in the beginning of
- 1:05:15his experience with in these phases of the mutant liberation movement, and for that
- 1:05:24I was really rooting for him, and this was commendable to some degree,
- 1:05:31right, and then we see him actually in the original series fall and fall
- 1:05:36and fail and be wronged despite his good intentions and his goodwill in contrast to
- 1:05:45a person like Magneto, who takes matters into his own hands and who uses
- 1:05:49his power to gain access to the things that I just described, Right,
- 1:05:55So it's you know, you know again, they're all they're all finding these
- 1:05:59different ways to reach the point, the simple, simple level, the simple
- 1:06:04wish to exist. And that is an ongoing, as you said, an
- 1:06:12ongoing story that we continue to tune in for because we are also looking for
- 1:06:15those answers no, And it's all those things that you just talked about,
- 1:06:20what we've talked about before, Like I talked about how last episode was really
- 1:06:25a big episode about frusts and Storm just try and see, you know,
- 1:06:29what it would be like to be white, you know, and maybe we
- 1:06:31can just give this all up and give up this struggle and realizing that that's
- 1:06:35not their life and that's not how it is. But both of them havn't
- 1:06:39been on the front lines through all of this, makes it relatable and in
- 1:06:43front of those feelings that you know pretty much about on the panel last week,
- 1:06:45agreed that we've all had at some point, you know, damn it
- 1:06:48would just be a little bit easier. And then this episode has you know,
- 1:06:53you dealing with those same type of things, Like you're saying, like
- 1:06:56all of us at some point are related to beasts. We've all been like,
- 1:06:59man, if I do it right, you know they'll get me in.
- 1:07:02No, fam, that's not what it is. But we all had
- 1:07:05to go through that journey, absolutely, And I love that concept y'all talked
- 1:07:11about with with Storm, especially this and I know Storm actually isn't in episode
- 1:07:16seven. I don't think at all but in the recent episode had to go
- 1:07:21through this journey of what it was like to not have her powers and to
- 1:07:25feel like that was basically self erasure. That wasn't necessarily about this outside force.
- 1:07:30Yes, it has something to do with it, but this whole process
- 1:07:33of learning how to love herself weakness and you know, mental illness and powers
- 1:07:41and all the entirety of what it means to be storm and how powerful it
- 1:07:45is. To come out of that and realize what I'm not going to do
- 1:07:47anymore is dream up of this self erasure or actively self erase in order to
- 1:07:54be fitting in, in order to be like anybody else, in order to
- 1:07:58you know, again like we're talking about, to gain act to the things
- 1:08:00that that she she like any person would want access to. And I've had
- 1:08:06to go through that journey even recently in life where I had to accept that,
- 1:08:11you know, with Hollywood and things of that nature. I was like,
- 1:08:15well, do I want to play the games? Do I want to
- 1:08:16just say not say how I feel, you know, so I can get
- 1:08:19ahead and I accept it now. I don't want to do that. I'd
- 1:08:21rather just say what or the fuck I feel and let the dice, you
- 1:08:26know, cards whatever fall what they may, because I'd much rather just be
- 1:08:30who the hell I am and always say what I feel is right than try
- 1:08:33and play the role to get further ahead in this world that at the same
- 1:08:39time isn't going to reward you even when you play that role. So that
- 1:08:43struggle that you said, I think is also something that it's important to just
- 1:08:46name too, right And I think the panel in the last in the last
- 1:08:50episode covered that that there are going to be times when we're playing around with
- 1:08:58rightly, So just sort of menting, with the code switching and with highlighting
- 1:09:02certain parts of ourselves and speaking I do it all the time, speaking in
- 1:09:06certain ways, trying to kind of shape shift into a you know, a
- 1:09:14person who is agreeable, who's who's a person pleaser, who's you know,
- 1:09:18kind of meeting these these different categories of things that I think people want from
- 1:09:24from me. And you know, I when I work with young people who
- 1:09:28struggle with this too, around their their identity and how to be authentically themselves
- 1:09:33and yet also trying to fit in at the same time, which is which
- 1:09:38is often unfortunately the way to succeed. This whole idea of self erasure something
- 1:09:45that comes up is the guilt of the of sort of manipulating or you know,
- 1:09:57showing different parts of your identity and ways that does not feel authentic for
- 1:10:00what for advancing yourself, for being visible, for getting access to things that
- 1:10:08you don't normally have access to. And you know, I tell them it's
- 1:10:11okay, it's okay even to do those things. We shouldn't feel guilty for
- 1:10:14that. These are all about. This is about survivorship, and we don't
- 1:10:18know the right way to do it, but we certainly shouldn't feel badly for
- 1:10:23trying to. No. And something that you talked about earlier they've so hit
- 1:10:30me very much is when we're talking about the numbness that comes from this.
- 1:10:34And I deal with that a lot because right now, two of the biggest
- 1:10:39issues that I know about worldwide at least, are with the situation in Congo
- 1:10:43and the situation in Palestine. And in Congo, I just feel like I
- 1:10:46don't know what to do because everyone uses the technology that they're exploiting to death,
- 1:10:51that they're putting these people to death over there, and it just seems
- 1:10:54hopeless and it seems like no one's really paying attention. And I also know
- 1:10:58why because the people there are dark christend you know, et cetera, et
- 1:11:01cetera. And I'm just also at the same time happy that there's all this
- 1:11:04attention being paid to Israel and palestime, because I know this is an issue
- 1:11:09that I've like, I had to come up on my Facebook feed where it's
- 1:11:13like, oh, here's your ten year anniversary of this post, and it
- 1:11:15was ten years ago where I was making a point about how Israel ain't shit,
- 1:11:18and I'm like, God, damn, you know what I mean.
- 1:11:20And I remember my sister talking about it, but when we were kids,
- 1:11:24so this has been like, you know, just forever thing and it I
- 1:11:27know it goes back before my birth obviously, and it's just one of those
- 1:11:30things where I'm just happy to see all this attention being paid to it,
- 1:11:33But at the same time, me as someone who works in this industry,
- 1:11:38I'm off, like, fuck, how much can I say about it?
- 1:11:41And I just bought two T shirts that I'll be wearing on the show recently
- 1:11:45that are pro Palestine, and I mean not recently, I'll be wearing it
- 1:11:48very soon. And I speak about it a lot, and I know that
- 1:11:53it can be detrimental to my so called career whatever. But at the same
- 1:11:56time, I'm like, I don't give a shit because who cares if that
- 1:12:00type of stuff. You know, when we were these are there's much more
- 1:12:02important things, and we had this platform to distruss them. So that's what
- 1:12:08we're here for. A couple more points I want to make about this episode
- 1:12:11before we get up out of here. I really loved it, Like say,
- 1:12:15all of those subtle things. There's a shot of Rogue flying through some
- 1:12:17angel wings when she's on her way to confront guy Rich who is basically the
- 1:12:23devil, and he's up in this heaven you know type prison. So it's
- 1:12:27all those real subtle things that were just really dope garage. Getting murdered is
- 1:12:32something, you know, I've I've hated this dude my whole life, honestly,
- 1:12:36like ever since I started reading That's Man, I've hated him. And
- 1:12:40he got murdered in the comics recently, and it was like, you know,
- 1:12:42after all this time moved him being around, he finally got murdered.
- 1:12:45I don't know if he ever did before that. That was my first time
- 1:12:48remembering it and then seeing him getting done off in this episode was you know,
- 1:12:55and again not subtle, very very clearly. We didn't necessarily that was
- 1:13:00Bashing, right, We didn't necessarily see I think it wasn't until the end
- 1:13:04of the episode we fully saw who that was it was, but we saw
- 1:13:10how he killed Guy Rich and it was pretty brutal and very Tarantino ESQ.
- 1:13:17And that's something that comes up later on. I really I tweeted this this
- 1:13:21morning. I felt like the music with the Purple Pee period either coming up
- 1:13:27is very Tarantino ESQ, where you have this music that doesn't tell me what
- 1:13:30is that association? Because that music came up a couple of times. Yeah,
- 1:13:34well the music comes up twice and Tarantino bit of it. Well,
- 1:13:39the really what made me think Tarantino and then the music really solidified it.
- 1:13:44But the later scene with Bashing and Magneto when he's shaving him is to me
- 1:13:49and he turns on the music because I didn't realize that the music had come
- 1:13:53on when he was choking dude out as well. But when he's shaving him,
- 1:13:57it gave me the scene from Reservoir Dogs when mister Brown I can't remember
- 1:14:02wich of the Michael Madison's character is torturing the police officer with a straight edge
- 1:14:09razor and he's playing stuck in the middle with you, which is, you
- 1:14:13know, the song just doesn't really fit the scene. And it's that same
- 1:14:16type of feeling that I was getting from this scene. And so when you
- 1:14:19had this weird music, incongruous, I think that's the word for it,
- 1:14:24where it's it just doesn't really fit, right, Is that's the tarantino esteness
- 1:14:29of it. Yeah, it kind of gives you this unsettling feeling. Yes,
- 1:14:33yeah, And I think in the second I don't know, I can't
- 1:14:36remember the first when we first hear it, but that second time we hear
- 1:14:40it, it is diegetic, so it's music that's meant to be played.
- 1:14:45It's listened to by the characters in the scene, and we also hear it,
- 1:14:48so there's something Okay, So there's something to that about I don't know
- 1:14:55if it's if it's in effect that that character wants to create again, it's
- 1:15:03it's really unsettling and weird. You know, you kind of just just have
- 1:15:10this heb GB feeling about it. But now that that tracks about Tarantino,
- 1:15:15oh yeah, definitely. And it is that same type of like you said,
- 1:15:18the diegetic thing because in the first scene when he's choking him out,
- 1:15:21there's an operatic scene playing on the radio, and then as he begins to
- 1:15:26choke him, the radio turns to the music, and then when he finishes
- 1:15:30up, the radio turns back to the other song. And then when you
- 1:15:32see him with Magneto, it's like he has a jukebox and he intentionally plays
- 1:15:36the song before he starts messing with Magneto, and that goes back to the
- 1:15:42Reservoir Dogs where he turned to the radio station and it's like, don't you
- 1:15:45love this radio station and plays all the jams and then begins torturing this dude.
- 1:15:49Yikes. Yeah. A couple of moments that I just tried to shout
- 1:15:55out was Rogue saying, honey, this ate that sort of probe with you
- 1:15:59know, did something for me. I can't lie you like that. I
- 1:16:09was like, wow, bro, you know, I didn't realize that line
- 1:16:12but hit me the way it did, but it really, it really did.
- 1:16:15And then talk about like the joys of animation went in that final fight
- 1:16:18when morph is fighting the Prime Sentinel and the Prime Sentinel hents him, and
- 1:16:27well, first you have the you know, cameo quit Silver, which is
- 1:16:30just so fire and Morph using the powers of quit Silver to attack the Sentinel.
- 1:16:34But then when the Sentinel hits him back, he like knocks the Morph
- 1:16:38off of him, like the that you know, the white skin of Morph
- 1:16:43comes flying off from like liquid. And it's those little bits of things that
- 1:16:46happened in the animation that I just love to death. Yeah, it's beautiful
- 1:16:49that scene. I don't know a lot about this sort of new Sentinel.
- 1:16:57This it's like a person who's a zombie that is created into this prime Sentinel,
- 1:17:03incredibly powerful villain, and I guess created by Bastian. Is that what
- 1:17:11we're supposed to understand? Yes, oh god, oh, I didn't want
- 1:17:15to do this too much because, like Ron was saying before he had the
- 1:17:17jet unexpected lead, Bashian's history is so wild, and we've been doing these
- 1:17:24kind of breaking down in the history of these characters for people who don't read
- 1:17:27the comments. I don't know if they're going to go with this route on
- 1:17:30this series, but Bashan in the comics is a character who and they didn't
- 1:17:35make a bit of a reference to it in this episode. Is there's this
- 1:17:41character Nimrod who comes from the future Nimrod is like the greatest sensit of all
- 1:17:44time. He comes from the future. It's kind of a Terminator type story,
- 1:17:47and he comes back to eliminate certain characters so his future will happen and
- 1:17:51he can continue being the great Sentinel mutant killer that he is. But in
- 1:18:00the comics Nimrod and the Master Mold the what we've seen in this story,
- 1:18:05the Sentinel Maker, the big Giant Sentinel makes other Sentinels get thrown into this
- 1:18:12thing called the Siege Perilous, and the Siege Perilous is basically a dimensional portal
- 1:18:16that when you get thrown into it or go into it, you get reborn
- 1:18:21as yourself, but different kind of And so the X Men all go it
- 1:18:27merges that the bodies, but only one identity comes out of there well,
- 1:18:31and no other characters went through it at the same time, like Nimrod and
- 1:18:36Master Mold, So it was kind of like at the time, I think
- 1:18:40it was more like we're getting rid of these characters for the time being,
- 1:18:42because I think that was plussed around Paramount's intention, and then later on they
- 1:18:46both came back as bashed In and I think that was another writer by that
- 1:18:51point, so that wasn't even his original story. Who knows what his intention
- 1:18:56was, but that's what happened. And all the X Men went through the
- 1:18:58siege perilous and they basically came out different. This is when Silock went from
- 1:19:02being a white woman to the Japanese ninja that we all know, and other
- 1:19:09things happened to the various Heatsmen. The biggest change was for silot Storm came
- 1:19:12out as a child and then eventually came back to normal size. Silock was
- 1:19:15the only one where it really stuck and it became the character that we know.
- 1:19:19So but that's how yeah, and that's how Bashton was created. So
- 1:19:24I do not think that's how they're gonna go here. That Bashton was Nimrod
- 1:19:28and got thrown into a portal. That's something you would have had to throw
- 1:19:30and we haven't ever seen that happen. But they do make reference that he
- 1:19:34is a character who evolved from one of the old villains. And when Rogue
- 1:19:40grabs your rich, you see Nimrod, a quit flash of Nimrod. And
- 1:19:45when he talks about you can't get past him, you get a quit flash
- 1:19:48of Nimrod. So there is gonna be something where Bashton is this character who
- 1:19:54has evolved from Nimrod, and we also see that at the very end of
- 1:20:00the episode when he's shaving Magnito. But I think his intentions for Magneto is
- 1:20:03to turn Magnito into one of these prime sentinels that we've seen already in this
- 1:20:08episode. That's what's happening there with the shaving. Yes, that's what it
- 1:20:13took me. On my second watch. I was like, why is he
- 1:20:15shaving this dude? What's that about? But then he was like, you're
- 1:20:17born to do this. All you need to do is sit back and be
- 1:20:20quiet, which was also some wild shit to tell Magnito. And it's like
- 1:20:25what this whole episode keeps talking about. It's like, sit back, be
- 1:20:29quiet, and just let this happen. But to tell Magneto that, who's
- 1:20:31seen the results of what happens when the people sit back and just let something
- 1:20:36happen and think things are going to get better. You know, he's seen
- 1:20:40his people slaughter before like that, and now he's seeing it happen again.
- 1:20:44And for Bashian to tell him that it's just some like wild you know,
- 1:20:47some cold work boy right there. I mean, I mean he said sit
- 1:20:50listen and obey and You're born for this. The whole time when you were
- 1:20:55talking about Bastian in the comics, that kept thinking about that movie with Angela
- 1:21:00Bassett and James Spader where they merge, don't they like merge into what supernova?
- 1:21:09They actually end up not merging into one person, but they are in
- 1:21:13a I'm gonna get this so wrong. They're like in a spaceship, but
- 1:21:15there's only one pods. I have to get together, and then one ends
- 1:21:18up with one eye like Angela and Bassett ends up with like a blue eye
- 1:21:21or something. It's just what you gotta look it up. I've gotta see
- 1:21:26this. It's like a sci fi movie from the nineties. I remember,
- 1:21:30I just did not know this is how you know it's fun on a movie
- 1:21:32I did in season. I did not know that's how you know it ended,
- 1:21:34or how it went at all in it. But I just gave away
- 1:21:39the ending. Sorry, but yeah, they both they both, Yeah,
- 1:21:42they both survived by sort of merge. It's like their DNA has to merge
- 1:21:46and then re yeah, like separate again. I might get I've only seen
- 1:21:54it one time. Sex Lives and Videotape Jamee Spader. Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 1:21:59wow, yeah, wow, and wow the Blacklist blacklisting, Yeah wow
- 1:22:05yeah, it's an interesting and interesting story. Well I do that. That's
- 1:22:12all I kept thinking about. I I think about the fly, so you
- 1:22:17know you're going for a better work because I think about, you know,
- 1:22:20the grossness of the fly. Whenever, whenever that sees prayer, the story
- 1:22:24gets brought up, is what I think about. So well, I do
- 1:22:28want to end with this concept of time travel. That what we know,
- 1:22:31and this is true in our lives. If there is anything that is going
- 1:22:34to liberate us from traumatic grief, it is time travel. And what I
- 1:22:41mean by that is when we future orient ourselves, when we forecast what life
- 1:22:47is going to be. And you've been doing this, You've been in various
- 1:22:49phases of grief. We do a couple of things. We forecast a future
- 1:22:55that doesn't exist. These are the alternate realities in our future. What is
- 1:22:58life going to be like in five years, ten years, fifteen years.
- 1:23:02It's we call it like a cognitive exercise, an emotional exercise. And we
- 1:23:08also do some time travel with our past what would things. This is actually
- 1:23:14called counterfactual thinking. When we go back to our past and rewrite the narrative.
- 1:23:18How would this have been different if I did this, if I took
- 1:23:23a different action, if I told that person don't go that way, if
- 1:23:27I made an effort to try to save them. All these different alternate realities
- 1:23:31that we create in our past and in our future, And what x Men
- 1:23:34is going to do, which I'm just predicting because it's x Men, is
- 1:23:40they're going to take us into the different times, into different those different places
- 1:23:45in the timeline to make sense of the trauma. Now we know from the
- 1:23:53Endgame and Infinity War and things like that, that doesn't necessarily make the trauma
- 1:23:59go away, but it's going to help us create rewrite a story that's going
- 1:24:02to make sense for our characters. And that is what I'm hoping for with
- 1:24:06what the next three episodes, We're going to wrap this up with some mad,
- 1:24:12like amazing time travel story. I'm really like wondering where we're going,
- 1:24:18you know, with I mean knowing that the series is already already Season two
- 1:24:21is already pretty much finished, you know, other than like animation, I
- 1:24:25think at this point, and then they're already planning out season three and probably
- 1:24:30beyond that now with the success of this show, I'm really wondering where they're
- 1:24:33going in these next three episodes. But the next three episodes are called uh
- 1:24:39tolerance for is extinction or because I know it references the E for extinction Wait
- 1:24:45zero, the operation zero tolerance. Yes, yeah, it's well, it's
- 1:24:48a the name of the three episodes, our reference to E for Extinction,
- 1:24:53which was Brant Morrison's run on New X Men where Jenosha first is destroyed.
- 1:24:59So you know has already been destroyed at this point. So where they're going
- 1:25:01in these next three episodes obviously, like you said, we're gonna have cable
- 1:25:05there, We're gonna have some talking do something with cable. It's now two
- 1:25:09or three times Bashion you know, has been hinted that since to be pretty
- 1:25:14much early on, like we saw the first time we see Bash as far
- 1:25:18as I can remember, we see actually someone well he's at the you see
- 1:25:23him at the gala before it gets destroyed. He's one of the people in
- 1:25:27the background. And he was also on Forger's wall in a picture with Forge
- 1:25:31right right right, Yeah, So that's gonna have to get resolved, and
- 1:25:35you know where he comes from, and now he knows Forge is gonna have
- 1:25:39to get explored. You also have Professor Eds coming back to Earth and they've
- 1:25:44they've got to bring that back and resolve that. And we were talking about
- 1:25:46this last week. Is that gonna lead into an onslaught stop type storyline where
- 1:25:53Professor At and Manito have been pushed at their limit and formed this you know,
- 1:25:57evil being? Or are we leading towards like a Kirkoa storyline where the
- 1:26:02edge Men get fed up with everything and just go off on their own.
- 1:26:06But they've already kind of did that with Janosha in this and bringing up Kurcoa
- 1:26:12with this Living Island would be a lot of storyline to cover in three episodes
- 1:26:16that I don't think is really gonna happen right now. I think that might
- 1:26:18happen maybe in season three or something. So I'm not one hundred cent sure
- 1:26:25where we're going to these last three episodes. I think, like you said,
- 1:26:28the most logical answer is some time travel hygiens. I just really hope
- 1:26:32that we don't do the well Cambit had to die so that you know,
- 1:26:38it's a wonderful life type of thing, Like, I really hope we don't
- 1:26:41do that. I just but at the same time, I hope they don't
- 1:26:45bring them back in some time travel hygiens and then that's three episodes either,
- 1:26:47so it might have to be some of that. Well, Gambit had to
- 1:26:50die because this is how life goes, which I hate because that's some one
- 1:26:58of the things of grief that I've had to deal with, you know that,
- 1:27:00And that's something that I've often distressed throughout my life. You know,
- 1:27:03I'm something that I've been obsessed with in my life is like choices and fate
- 1:27:09and whether or not you know, we are faded to do things or it's
- 1:27:12just you know, how just basically how reality works. It's something I've been
- 1:27:15obsessed with and what our choices lead to and things of that nature. And
- 1:27:20like you said, oh if I've done this, but I've saved that person,
- 1:27:24If only I've done this, would that person still be here? And
- 1:27:28sometimes I've always accepted is that you know, everything does happen for a reason,
- 1:27:30and if you think that way, then you have to accept that all
- 1:27:33these things have happened and they are what it is. One of the greatest
- 1:27:39pieces of advice I ever got in my life was Benjamin whenever you hear the
- 1:27:43word if in your head, that's just the devil talking to you, because
- 1:27:46there is no if, there's just is. You know, there is this,
- 1:27:50and so I think that's something that you know, people deal with grief
- 1:27:55definitely have to deal with and probably can relate to. So that's real.
- 1:27:59It us into trouble. Too many ifs will get you into trouble emotionally mentally.
- 1:28:03Absolutely, that's good advice. I was given to me straight up when
- 1:28:09I was sitting in prison with someone, so it was yeah, it was
- 1:28:12taking Well, that's that with me. It's hard to not take it at
- 1:28:17that point. All right, Well, thank you doctor Drea for joining us,
