Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: I had to get an Uber in this morning and
- 0:03Speaker 1: I've got an Uber in to work for various reasons
- 0:06Speaker 1: plenty of times. It always, you know, usually costs around
- 0:09Speaker 1: maybe 25 bucks.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I did one a few days ago. That's about
- 0:13Speaker 2: what it cost me at that time in the morning.
- 0:14Speaker 1: And bear in mind, I'm covering literally a distance. I've
- 0:19Speaker 1: put in the, you know, the coordinates into Google and
- 0:21Speaker 1: it tells me I'm travelling 8.5 kilometres from my house.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Break that down.
- 0:27Speaker 3: From the side of the road to... Outside the door
- 0:31Speaker 3: of the radio station.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Break that down to cost per kilometre.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Oh, I don't.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Well.
- 0:35Speaker 2: A lot. Too much.
- 0:37Speaker 1: So I dial up my Uber and it comes back
- 0:39Speaker 1: with the, oh, there are, you know, higher than normal demand.
- 0:46Speaker 3: So it's a little more expensive.
- 0:48Speaker 2: At that time of the morning?
- 0:49Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't know where everyone was going. I didn't
- 0:50Speaker 3: see anyone else on the street.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Must have been coming home.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Are you ready for it? $ 59. $ 59.
- 0:57Speaker 2: For eight kilometres.
- 0:58Speaker 3: For eight kilometres.
- 0:59Speaker 2: 8.5. At four something o'clock in the morning.
- 1:02Speaker 3: At four something o'clock in the morning. $ 59.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I nearly fell over. At this stage, I don't even
- 1:09Speaker 1: know actually how to.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Was it somewhat frosty in the car?
- 1:15Speaker 1: No, because I don't think it was Nguyen's problem, but,
- 1:19Speaker 1: you know, and his car was lovely and clean and
- 1:23Speaker 1: he was very nice and friendly and he drove me
- 1:25Speaker 1: safely here.
- 1:25Speaker 2: You don't get the bottle of water and the mints anymore.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Like you used to. No, you do not. You do not.
- 1:29Speaker 2: That's gone by the wayside.
- 1:30Speaker 3: I had to ask him to turn the light on
- 1:31Speaker 3: so I could get my seatbelt on. Have you noticed
- 1:34Speaker 3: the backs of Ubers? They're Ubers. I just said it
- 1:37Speaker 3: like my mum would say it.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Where you put your seatbelt in, it's like buried down
- 1:43Speaker 1: deep in the, you can never find.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Where to plug your seatbelt in.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Oh, they get all sorts sitting in the back.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Anyway, that's another, it's too early for this for another time.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Wow. $ 59.
- 1:50Speaker 3: That's crazy.
- 1:53Speaker 2: You know something I did a few days ago because
- 1:56Speaker 2: I had to and I didn't want to spend the
- 1:58Speaker 2: money on Ubers and it's something I haven't done in
- 2:01Speaker 2: years was I called the bus.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Yes.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Caught the bus.
- 2:05Speaker 3: I don't think I've done that since high school.
- 2:07Speaker 2: And I went way more than eight kilometres in all
- 2:12Speaker 2: my round trips. And you know how much I paid?
- 2:14Speaker 3: How much?
- 2:15Speaker 2: $ 7 all up. Wow.
- 2:17Speaker 3: $ 7.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Well, if a bus was available at this time of
- 2:20Speaker 1: the morning, I'd have availed myself.
- 2:22Speaker 3: But it's most certainly not.
- 2:23Speaker 2: After work on Wednesday, I just went down over to
- 2:26Speaker 2: Wellington Square, not far from here. I caught the 51
- 2:28Speaker 2: out to Welshpool to pick up what I had to
- 2:30Speaker 2: pick up.
- 2:31Speaker 3: And $ 3. 50.
- 2:32Speaker 2: That's all it cost me. And the bus was clean.
- 2:36Speaker 2: And here's something that really surprised me. And I think
- 2:39Speaker 2: this will make you mourning. I reckon in all the
- 2:42Speaker 2: bus rides that I took, and I took about three
- 2:44Speaker 2: or four different buses, about 80% of people on the
- 2:48Speaker 2: bus said thank you to the driver.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Oh, that's, well, that's good. I'm disappointed it's not higher
- 2:54Speaker 3: than 80%, to be honest.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Well, it made me better. Well, when it got really
- 2:57Speaker 2: busy and lots and lots, and they're not going to go, hello, mate, hello, mate, hello, mate, hello, mate.
- 3:01Speaker 3: He's going, g'day, g'day, g'day, g'day, g'day. But yeah, like there's- Well,
- 3:05Speaker 3: that's good.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:06Speaker 3: That restores your faith a bit in, you know, the
- 3:09Speaker 3: majority of humanity.
- 3:11Speaker 2: It does.
- 3:11Speaker 3: The majority of humanity is good.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Exactly. You know, we've got to, sometimes we've got to
- 3:16Speaker 1: remind ourselves, but we hear too many bad stories. So
- 3:19Speaker 1: it's nice to hear- That just, you know, something as
- 3:23Speaker 1: simple as getting off the bus and saying, thanks, mate.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Have a good day.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I was pleasantly surprised at the manners and very pleasantly
- 3:30Speaker 2: surprised at the price.
- 3:31Speaker 3: So there you go.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I think I might catch the bus a little more often.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Well, I would have caught the bus this morning. I know,
- 3:36Speaker 3: but it's too early. But I'd be still waiting.
- 3:38Speaker 2: It's too early. It's too early for you and I.
- 3:40Speaker 2: It's too early for this.
- 3:41Speaker 3: It's too early for this.
