- 0:06Hello. What's your least favorite scary
- 0:08movie Red Car? Welcome to what's your least
- 0:14favorite scary movie? The podcast, Are we talking
- 0:16about the goods, about the ugly and the absurd and all of our
- 0:19favorite and my favorite scary movie is because we believe
- 0:27every horror movie rightfully has its fan base, even if we
- 0:30don't always get it. My name's Jesse.
- 0:33Sorry, my name is Travis. I didn't.
- 0:36I'm sorry. I meant to do my port.
- 0:39This is what's your favorite scary movie?
- 0:42Happy Happy holidays, everybody. Oh, my God.
- 0:45I'm sorry. I've been waiting to hear what
- 0:48the opening quote was gonna be because, like, the best part is
- 0:53to follow. He's, like, Red Car.
- 0:55Good point. Oh, my God.
- 0:59Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:01So if you couldn't tell from that opening line and clicking
- 1:04on the episode title itself, we're talking about Silent
- 1:07Night, Deadly Night Part 2 today.
- 1:09Yeah, finally, I'm. So excited.
- 1:11Yeah, I've, I've wanted to talk about this for many Decembers,
- 1:15it's just December has so much shit going on.
- 1:18There's a lot, there's a lot of Christmas horror movies out
- 1:20there, so. Yeah.
- 1:21And we are, I think, yeah, this is a good time, OK, This is a
- 1:25good time for it. So before we get into it, do we
- 1:28have anything that needs to be announced?
- 1:30Yes, this weekend we will be doing our to be or not to be, so
- 1:35be on the lookout for that. That's true, and it's gonna be
- 1:37my pick. And you can guarantee that I'm
- 1:42gonna have some kind of shitty movie on there.
- 1:44Or a good one, I don't know. Yeah.
- 1:47That's wow. What a bold take to just come
- 1:49right out the gate. You don't even know what you're
- 1:50gonna pick yet. I know but I feel like whenever
- 1:53I pick the Christmas ones are usually last year last.
- 1:56Year was not great. I can't remember what we chose
- 1:59the year before that, but yeah, All right.
- 2:02Well, then I guess that means we'll go on to our poll.
- 2:05So our poll was whether or not it's you guys think Black Chris,
- 2:09not Black Christmas, Black Friday is worth the hassle of
- 2:13going out and dealing with the crowds like that of the one from
- 2:17the Thanksgiving movie we watched last week.
- 2:19The vote was 91% saying that it's not worth it, OK, and 9%
- 2:25saying that it is worth it. OK.
- 2:27Yeah. All right.
- 2:28I don't. Interesting.
- 2:30Yeah. And I think that we kind of
- 2:32briefly talked about it on that episode last week because of
- 2:35that scene. And I don't think that it's
- 2:37worth it. Definitely not.
- 2:39And in fact we we did not do it so.
- 2:42Yeah, yeah. I mean true.
- 2:44To our our words. It's pretty much all online
- 2:46anymore anyways. Was my.
- 2:47Yeah, we did do quite a bit of online shopping.
- 2:50Speak for yourself. I didn't buy a single Black
- 2:52Friday deal. I did quite a bit online
- 2:54shopping. So yeah.
- 2:56Yeah, Apple. So yeah.
- 2:57All right, cool. So let's get into some Sally
- 2:58Night Deadly Night too. How's about that?
- 3:01So Sally Night, Deadly Night, Part 2 release April 10th, 1987.
- 3:06The perfect April movie. Yeah, Yeah.
- 3:08I don't understand that release window, but what, you know,
- 3:10whatever. We've had Halloweens in July, so
- 3:13you know, it happens. We watched it on Shutter, but if
- 3:16you want to watch it anywhere other than Shutter, you can
- 3:18watch it on Prime, The Roku Channel, AMC Plus to be Shutter
- 3:22Pluto. But I mean there's like 500
- 3:25different. Things that you can watch this
- 3:26on it's freebie. Yeah, I mean, it's on like a
- 3:29shit ton of stuff, so you can find it just about anywhere,
- 3:33honestly. You can pay for it, you can rent
- 3:34it, you can stream it. If you want to rent it, you can
- 3:38do that on YouTube, Apple, Amazon, all the other normal
- 3:41places. Written by Lee Harry, Joseph H
- 3:44Earl, Dennis Patterson, and Lawrence Applebaum, with
- 3:48characters from Michael Hickey and Paul Kamey.
- 3:50Directed by Lee Harry, music by Michael Armstrong and special
- 3:54effects by Chris Biggs. OK.
- 3:57Starring. Jason to Jason.
- 3:59You know, I kind of thought the same thing.
- 4:01He found his route in special effects and his brother was like
- 4:05American Pie. Yeah, that's my key right there.
- 4:08All right. Starring Eric Freeman as Ricky
- 4:11Caldwell, James Newman as Doctor Henry Bloom, Elizabeth Katan as
- 4:15Jennifer Jean Miller as Mother Superior, Brian Michael Henley
- 4:19as Ricky, age 12, and Daryl Gilbo as Ricky, age 17.
- 4:25Now they had him credited as Ricky, age 15, but I remember in
- 4:31the movie they said 17. Yeah, yeah, 'cause his dad died
- 4:35five years after he was 12, so he was 17.
- 4:39And then when he was 18 and working, suddenly he was Eric
- 4:43Freeman. Yeah.
- 4:44You know what's really funny? Like the the ages that they have
- 4:48as the characters are just two years back because they have him
- 4:51credited as Ricky, age 10. And I remember he said he was
- 4:54age 12 when he got adopted. So that just kind of goes into
- 4:58even more of the weird bizarreness that is.
- 5:01What a beautiful mess this movie is.
- 5:03I know it's lovely, right? Like at every single level it's
- 5:06like it's fucking up in. Disasters all the way.
- 5:09Down, but in the best way, in like the most entertaining ways,
- 5:11like they're they're 2 two year difference.
- 5:13It's just, it's so stupid and so mild, but I love it.
- 5:16Yeah, two would almost kind of make a difference, like having a
- 5:20different person for 15 versus 18.
- 5:23Weird, but makes a little bit more sense than 17 versus 18.
- 5:27A funny thing that I read about that is the guy that played him
- 5:30at 17 was actually like five years older than Eric Foreman.
- 5:35Freeman. Freeman I keep thinking Eric
- 5:37Foreman in my head when I see his name.
- 5:39So yeah, I don't know. There's just so much weird with
- 5:41this movie. But that leads us into our
- 5:44favorite part of the show budget or.
- 5:47Bug Ted? Well, considering they only made
- 5:52half a movie, I'm going with Bug Ted.
- 5:56Yeah, yes. It is in fact a very, very bug
- 6:00Ted movie. The bug Ted that I have for this
- 6:03is 250,000. Well, opening box office.
- 6:07So I just had general box office numbers for what I made in
- 6:11theaters, which was 154,000. But Blu-ray and all that other
- 6:17stuff, it has to now. I believe the number is 253,000.
- 6:22OK. All right, so it's made some
- 6:23money. 3000 in the green, yeah, Good job.
- 6:27Yeah. Or in the black.
- 6:27Eventually. It's in the black when it's
- 6:29accounting, right I. Don't know Green Green's good
- 6:33generally, so let's just say Green OK IMDb 3.9 out of 10.
- 6:40Way harsh tie. That's the lowest of all of the
- 6:43movies that I have picked for 1987, right?
- 6:47But don't you worry because I have a fun and fitting theme for
- 6:511987. I'm excited for this theme.
- 6:53This was the year of the so good or so bad It's good.
- 6:58OK. All right, please.
- 7:00Legend. Enliven me.
- 7:02Legendary movies were released this year, including Silent
- 7:05Night, Deadly Night too. You can't forget that one.
- 7:07But we'll start it off with movie number one, Blood Harvest.
- 7:13Oh, OK, so if you are not familiar, that is the movie
- 7:17starring Tiny Tim as a killer clown.
- 7:21And it is a wild movie. I'm pretty sure you were
- 7:24watching that one day when I was sick and I like, woke up from a
- 7:27fever and it was just Tiny Tim on screen and I was like, is
- 7:31this real? And then I felt like asleep.
- 7:34Yeah, I watched it for the first time.
- 7:35I think it was on the last drive in if he did an episode and they
- 7:38had like a Tiny Tim expert come on to talk about how weird Tiny
- 7:41Tim is. So it was kind of a fun time.
- 7:44It's a it's a fun movie. It's pretty fun.
- 7:46It it gets out there, but you know that to go into the theme
- 7:50here, it's so bad. It's good that released January
- 7:521st, 1987. Don't have a budget?
- 7:54Don't have a gross IMDb 4.6 second movie Blood Rage yes.
- 8:01We just watched this. It's part of our annual
- 8:05Thanksgiving tradition. Yeah, if you don't watch this
- 8:07every Thanksgiving, you need to change that.
- 8:09It's it's so perfect for a Thanksgiving watch.
- 8:12So that. Released May 1st, 1987.
- 8:15No budget, no gross. IMDb.
- 8:18This is shocking 5.8. Hell yeah, brother.
- 8:22Wow, I can't believe it's like almost out of six.
- 8:24I've seen so many objectively good movies with way lower
- 8:28scores than that. Yeah.
- 8:31It's a good movie. Like honestly, it is fun, it's
- 8:34entertaining. There's so much good about.
- 8:36That there are really good special effects that.
- 8:38Yeah, there are. They didn't.
- 8:40They didn't deserve that man. I think that's the key with all
- 8:43of these movies here is they have pretty solid effects all
- 8:46the way through, including Silent Night, Deadly Night,
- 8:49Tune. All right, Final movie.
- 8:52We know it. We love it.
- 8:53We've talked about it. Doom Silent.
- 8:57Yeah, Dumasilem came out October 28th, 1980.
- 9:01Seven $90,000 budget. Don't have the gross but a 4.6
- 9:07IMDb square. I can't believe Dumasilem has a
- 9:09higher rating than Simon. I delete.
- 9:11I'm pretty. I know.
- 9:13Well, OK, there are legitimate concerns or criticisms that can
- 9:18be made with Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2.
- 9:22And there aren't with Doom Asylum.
- 9:26Yes, but I think with Doom Asylum, it's a fresh movie.
- 9:31That's true. With Silent Night Deadly Night
- 9:32Part 2, we've not seen the first one, just so everybody knows
- 9:36here, and that is why we are doing the second one instead of
- 9:39doing the first one. No, we are doing the second one.
- 9:42So the first one, because the second one gives a very
- 9:45comprehensive recap of the first one.
- 9:47Hence the issue that I'm saying yes, it's 40 minutes of footage
- 9:51from the first movie. If you have watched the 1st
- 9:53movie and you go into this movie, that's not a good sell.
- 9:57No. So that I can understand
- 10:00deducting like a whole point. I guess.
- 10:04We're gonna get into that here in a little bit in my Fun Facts.
- 10:06OK. But before we do that, we got
- 10:08tag lines. Yay tag lines.
- 10:10Only got two. Yeah, kind of disappointing.
- 10:14I hope there's like a tagline for every installment of the
- 10:17movie. So like sound like Deadly 9?
- 10:19Part 3 has three taglines, Part 4 has four, Part 5 has 5.
- 10:24I would hope that they would do that, but I don't have faith in
- 10:27them. To do that, I don't either.
- 10:28There's no way. OK, so the one in the sun in the
- 10:30poster is the nightmare is about to begin again.
- 10:34I guess. Yeah, it's OK.
- 10:40I kind of like this one. Prayers won't save you in the
- 10:43silent part of this night. It was a good start.
- 10:47It needed another pass. Like, it needed a little bit of
- 10:49teamwork to clean it up because it, you know, the prayers thing,
- 10:54like, OK, yeah, see, I get it because of the Catholic
- 10:56orphanage, but then it gets a little clunky there at the end.
- 11:02I like it. It works for me.
- 11:04I like it. I would have put that one on a
- 11:06poster over the first one. OK, so Are you ready to do fun
- 11:10facts? Absolutely.
- 11:12All right, so. We, Harry, Joseph H Earl and
- 11:15Dennis Patterson, we're all editors at Lawrence Applebaum's
- 11:19company. So they were doing editing, they
- 11:21were doing trailers, they were doing all the things that would
- 11:23go in through the door there. The original Silent Night Deadly
- 11:26Night bombed really, really badly.
- 11:29Did not do well. Wasn't it also partly like it
- 11:32wasn't just that it bombed, It said there were groups actively
- 11:35protesting against it because it was like kind of a satanic panic
- 11:41a little bit. It was, but at the same time I
- 11:44can't remember if I heard this right.
- 11:47I know that some things have done this, but I thought that
- 11:50they encouraged the protest because it was like giving them
- 11:53the press that they wanted for it.
- 11:55Yeah, I think that they were advertising that they got that
- 11:58type of press from their horror movie.
- 12:00But there were people that were really upset because I guess the
- 12:04idea of a killer Santa was just really not their thing, even
- 12:07though it's kind of been a thing for a while.
- 12:09Yeah. Like this wasn't the 1st movie
- 12:11to ever do this. I don't understand why people
- 12:13were up in arms about this one. But yeah, it didn't do too well.
- 12:17So the rights were sold to Tristar and they contacted Harry
- 12:23and wanted him to do a recut of the movie.
- 12:28So their initial ask was take the first movie, recut it,
- 12:33rescore it, release it as a sequel or a re release.
- 12:37But they really were like we can make it a sequel, just recut it.
- 12:39Just like chop it up a little bit and do something different
- 12:42with it. OK, He wasn't really into that
- 12:46idea. I mean, he's an editor, so he's
- 12:48like, I can make like move shit around and make different
- 12:50things. But like him and the three of
- 12:53the other writers that I've said many times, Earl Patterson and
- 12:57Harry, they sat down, they did a quick treatment and they just
- 13:01added on enough to at least have some part of a different sequel
- 13:05to actually include with this. And they made their case and
- 13:08they're like, look like we can do this, but we really, really
- 13:11need to at least make something new to call it a sequel.
- 13:14Yeah. So they let them do it, but they
- 13:17gave them a tiny, tiny budget to do so.
- 13:19They were only able to do 40 minutes. 49 minutes.
- 13:23Yeah, of original content. Yeah, like we have.
- 13:25Was it 39 minutes? It's 39 minutes is the like when
- 13:29it starts switching over to a new story?
- 13:31Yeah. And they ended up filming it in
- 13:3310 days. Wow.
- 13:35So it was a really, really quick turn around, too.
- 13:37Yeah. He said that they had, like, a
- 13:38decent team of people, too. Like, they like, gave them
- 13:41money. They just didn't really have
- 13:43much time. They they really had to, like,
- 13:45bang it out real fast. Apparently, he originally wanted
- 13:49actor David Heavner to play Ricky, but the producers wanted
- 13:55Eric Freeman and said David Heavner came in and gave like a
- 13:58more like creepy performance of the reading, which they were not
- 14:01really thrilled with the producers.
- 14:04They wanted Eric to play more of like the over the top type
- 14:08character. OK, Yeah.
- 14:10And really, whenever it came to the directing, according to
- 14:13Eric, and this was confirmed by Harry, Harry didn't really give
- 14:17him much direction for what to do.
- 14:19He basically told them hit your mark.
- 14:22He really wanted to get the shot and that was this primary focus
- 14:26whenever you're getting stuff. So I guess as long as you hit
- 14:27your marks, everything looks good on camera, we're fine.
- 14:30I mean that makes sense if you only have 10 days to shoot.
- 14:33Yeah, it does. However you.
- 14:35Got to get that shit done. Joseph H Earl was really in his
- 14:39ear to like, ham it up even more, like make it bigger each
- 14:43time. So he kept getting conflicting
- 14:45direction from everybody. So he didn't really.
- 14:47That's why we get such a confusing performance from him.
- 14:49Yeah, like sometimes he acts like a normal human being.
- 14:52The other times it looks like he's trying to shake his
- 14:54eyebrows off his face. Yeah, it's so weird.
- 14:57Like it's so fun though. I I don't know, I love it.
- 15:00They were actually wrote him as he described it.
- 15:03He wanted the character to come across as like a Stephen King,
- 15:07bigger than a life villain, and he like used the stand as an
- 15:12example. OK, OK.
- 15:14So that, I guess I don't really know the characters, but he, he
- 15:18like was like, like, I really wanted to be like that.
- 15:20That's how we wrote it on, like on paper.
- 15:22That's what we envisioned. And that's not what they got.
- 15:27No. Yeah.
- 15:27What kind of a performance would that be like for those of us not
- 15:31familiar with the Stand? I mean, yeah, he's like
- 15:33cartoonishly evil, but, you know, like an adult cartoon, not
- 15:38a Powerpuff Girls villain of the week.
- 15:40See, he the way that he described the type of
- 15:44performance he wanted. He wanted somebody like Negan
- 15:46from Walking Dead. That's what he wanted Eric to
- 15:50be. None of these descriptions are
- 15:52descriptions that I would apply to Ricky.
- 15:54OK, no, me neither. Yeah, which is like so
- 15:57fascinating to think about. Like looking at this on script
- 16:00and then compared to what we actually get, it's so wildly
- 16:03different. The garbage day line was
- 16:05actually in the script. It was not ad libbed.
- 16:08They they did the whole massacre thing with a gun because they
- 16:11just thought it would be interesting to have a whole gun
- 16:13massacre in the middle of their horror film.
- 16:15However, do you know if the man going no and holding up the
- 16:19trash can was? In the back.
- 16:20I mean, I imagine so. Like, they made it sound like
- 16:22this entire thing was scripted. In fact, the script had them
- 16:26going even harder with it. They were actually going to have
- 16:28him, like, shooting a dog and stuff, too.
- 16:30Yeah. So they didn't do that too far.
- 16:32That that was too far. Yeah.
- 16:34They did the stunt scene with that guy.
- 16:36So for those of you who don't know or haven't seen it, there's
- 16:39a movie or there's a stunt in the movie where he shoots a guy
- 16:43that's driving by and the car flips over right next to him.
- 16:46And they did that in a single take because they only had one
- 16:49car and they couldn't fuck it up.
- 16:51Apparently they chose the colors of the vehicles, like as red,
- 16:55red car, red car, to like make it similar to Santa Claus's
- 17:00colors. It was a very intentional
- 17:02decision. Yeah, Santa Claus and his
- 17:04notoriously red sleigh. Yeah.
- 17:07I mean, I think it is normally red.
- 17:09I think it's to be fair. Normally brown.
- 17:12Not unknown. I don't think it's Brown.
- 17:14Who are you to know? I don't think it's red.
- 17:17He would just be like a red lump in the sky.
- 17:19Yeah, but I mean, you don't even see brown.
- 17:21Well, So what do you know? I see Brown great.
- 17:24No, you do not. I don't see green.
- 17:27Well, everything is brown to me. OK, that's fair.
- 17:32And actually many of the kill scenes in this movie,
- 17:36especially, According to him, the Umbrella kill scene were
- 17:39heavily edited down because that and the sex scene in the movie,
- 17:45we're gonna give this an X rating.
- 17:47So they almost had an X rating with a small amount of footage
- 17:50that they shot for this movie. I feel like they probably could
- 17:52have kept some of the gore and just kept the weird naked bodies
- 17:57pressed against each other for the sex scene.
- 18:00Yeah. And we kind of get that.
- 18:01Usually with the MPAA, you give them a little bit too much and
- 18:05then if you pull back on a thing, it's like a negotiation,
- 18:08you know? Yeah, I wonder if they had.
- 18:11They saw the footage from the first one.
- 18:13They're like, that's too gory. I'm like, you guys fucking said
- 18:15yes to this already. You can't say that.
- 18:17You can't do that again. OK, that's it for my fun facts.
- 18:21OK, yeah, OK. Like, I mean, despite this being
- 18:23such like a very well known cult classic, it's really not got a
- 18:29lot of information out there. And in fact, like Eric Freeman
- 18:31was really hard to find for a long time.
- 18:34Like he vanished. They couldn't even get him for
- 18:36commentaries until as recently as like the mid twenty 10s poor.
- 18:39Guy, yeah, I hope he knows how much he has loved in the cult
- 18:43film fandom. Yeah, if he shows up to scare
- 18:46facts. He does cons now.
- 18:47Yeah, yeah, don't worry. He he's very much aware of it.
- 18:51Dear Adrian, yeah. He he's spoken about this.
- 18:57I think he looks back at it finally.
- 18:59He's actually taking acting back up again.
- 19:01Too good. Yeah.
- 19:04Good. Yeah.
- 19:04I think people have like, finally just like, hey, it's
- 19:07cool, man. You know we like it.
- 19:10I went him in a movie with Dan and Eugene Levy, and it's just
- 19:13all eyebrows. That's what the movie's called.
- 19:16Just eyebrows. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:21If you haven't watched it, anybody that's gonna watch it,
- 19:23pay attention to his eyebrows. They are like off the fuck?
- 19:26You don't have to pay attention hard.
- 19:27They will catch. Your Yeah, you will catch your
- 19:29eye. Yeah, they make themselves very
- 19:31well known. He he ain't getting debris in
- 19:33his eyes. OK, so time for good, bad, ugly
- 19:38and absurd. So you kick it off.
- 19:39What do you like about this? Well it's so silly knowing that
- 19:45they were told they had to recut the movie.
- 19:48The 1st movie basically makes a lot more sense cause in my head
- 19:53I always pictured it as they had half an idea for a movie and
- 19:56they just kind of copped out by using the.
- 20:01Half of the original. Yeah, yeah, You could really
- 20:04read into it and not think too highly.
- 20:06But like, honestly, they fought for the one little bit of new
- 20:10movie that we do get. But I will say it almost kind of
- 20:13gives it like a mini like anthology feel to it, sort of.
- 20:17A little bit, yeah, Yeah. Cuz you get like, you know, you
- 20:20get Part 1 and then you get Ricky and Jennifer and then you
- 20:25get Ricky going after Mother Superior and the wrap around is
- 20:30the doctor's office. Yeah, you know, you're kind of
- 20:33right. You could really think of it as
- 20:35like a three short anthology movie, and I say all the.
- 20:40Time anthology movies are the most low stakes movies because
- 20:43if you don't like it, you're not committing to a full movie for
- 20:47each segment. So I and I like that we do get
- 20:51like essentially the first night, deadly night just right
- 20:53in there and like we get cutting away all the muss and fuss.
- 20:57And then we're also adding on all of this absurdity right to
- 21:00it. We've got some really
- 21:02interesting kills, I think especially that Umbrella one.
- 21:05It seems very implausible, but I don't even care.
- 21:08Like it's so funny, like it's just so well done.
- 21:10Honestly, I just love the idea of that.
- 21:13Yeah, I just, and this is like a holiday staple for us.
- 21:16We watch it every year, sometimes multiple times around
- 21:19Christmas time. Honestly, it's like, I love it
- 21:23for having the first one, but it's kind of not giving us the
- 21:26opportunity to watch the first one because we always watch this
- 21:28one. It's like, why watch the first
- 21:31one if we're getting the first one and the second one?
- 21:34I'm all about multitasking, so it works for me.
- 21:37I want to watch the first one though.
- 21:39We're watching it this year. If you're not watching it, I'm
- 21:42watching it by myself cuz I'm finally gonna watch it.
- 21:44Well, it's gonna be playing at the Kentucky so.
- 21:46Yeah, that's a good opportunity to watch it.
- 21:48Yeah, cuz there's like 40 minutes movie that we've not
- 21:51seen there, you know? I guess.
- 21:53I guess. We're we may be missing some
- 21:56context for Ricky and Billy there on some things.
- 22:00What's your good? Oh man, it's good in all of the
- 22:05ways it shouldn't be. Yes, it's so bad.
- 22:08It's good. And this is the perfect example
- 22:10of a movie that is like that because it is entertaining
- 22:14because of how poorly made it is.
- 22:17Like here's the thing, it's it's got enough to make it memorable.
- 22:21It's got the quotable lines that we have said many times.
- 22:24We've got things like, I like it when he's in there giving the
- 22:29doc a hard time and they're like, he's like asking all these
- 22:32like obvious questions like, oh really?
- 22:34Maybe we're just jerking off here then.
- 22:37Like, when he's like, do you miss your brother?
- 22:40Or when he's like, oh, your brother Evanage you at the
- 22:42orphanage? He was like, no, he turned 18.
- 22:46Like, yeah. It's so funny.
- 22:48I mean, these are all terribly line or terrible lines, but
- 22:52they're just like delivered in such a fun way.
- 22:54I mean red car. Good point.
- 22:58Those doctor's notes are insanity as well.
- 23:01They are. Yeah, they are.
- 23:03Absolutely gibberish. So it's got the quote ability.
- 23:07It's actually a decently well made film as far as like
- 23:13operations, camera working, all that stuff goes.
- 23:15He has said that he wants actually to make a silent
- 23:18version of this film because he wants people to actually
- 23:20appreciate the the camera work that goes behind all of this.
- 23:24Like they had dollies, they had all like all all the tools
- 23:27needed to get a good shot. And I don't know, I think they
- 23:30actually did a pretty good job. I mean, when you watch the movie
- 23:33and I was actually trying to keep an eye out for this when we
- 23:35were watching it, I was like, this is a good shot.
- 23:39This should work. This should be like good,
- 23:42objectively good. What is the thing that is making
- 23:45it not good? It's the dialogue, but it makes
- 23:48it good and it can't be a way. So it cancels out.
- 23:51And I guess like another good thing to say is it's just like
- 23:54a, it's a good way to tell the story with Ricky because like
- 23:58we're getting like the background of him, he's being,
- 24:01he's in the, I like the idea of him being in the, the hospital
- 24:05at the start. Like, all right, how did the
- 24:07fuck did he get here? How did the events of the 1st
- 24:09movie? And then what happened in
- 24:11between that and like him growing up led him to being
- 24:15hospitalized or whatever. And then he busts out at the end
- 24:18and he like goes after mother's superior.
- 24:20Like, I don't know, I kind of like it.
- 24:21It's fun. OK, that's my bad or that's my
- 24:24good. So what's your bad?
- 24:26I'm gonna disagree on some of the camera work stuff because
- 24:29there are a couple of too many shots up close of Eric Freeman's
- 24:34eyeballs. That's the that itself works.
- 24:39It's the acting. That I don't think it works.
- 24:42So you think you like a course up on somebody's eyes is like,
- 24:45like definitively like not a good shot for this.
- 24:47No, I think it's very much overused and it loses impact
- 24:52when you do it that often and it just feels like you don't really
- 24:55know. You really wonder.
- 24:56How to frame the shot the? Eyebrows to get their moment to
- 24:59shine. They took all of that moment to
- 25:02shine. Also mother superiors makeup.
- 25:07Generally. That's not what a stroke does to
- 25:09a person's face. Do the people, did Chris Briggs,
- 25:13Biggs, whatever his name is, did he not know what the stroke was?
- 25:17That is actually was one of my absurds here.
- 25:20OK, but they they recast her because the original actor was
- 25:25asking for too much money apparently.
- 25:27OK. Yeah.
- 25:29So there's that. And then also, like, I, I know
- 25:33part of the fun of this is how it's 2 movies in one.
- 25:37However, I would be remiss not to mention that that the first
- 25:41half of it is Part 1 because that's one of those things that
- 25:44drives me crazy about Friday the 13th is when they do the 1st 15
- 25:48minutes or the last 15 minutes of the previous one.
- 25:51Yeah. So it does still feel cheap.
- 25:54Oh yeah, OK. Yeah, I mean, now I know that
- 25:57that's on the studios part, but still.
- 26:01Yeah, I mean that like the retelling of Part 1 and Part 2
- 26:05is my biggest bad for this too. Like it, if you have seen the
- 26:09first one, it just kind of sucks, you know what I mean?
- 26:12It's just half of a movie. But I mean to us it's all new.
- 26:16So like as like a person that has not seen the first one, that
- 26:19doesn't bother me, but it would really bother me if I had seen
- 26:23the first one first. Yeah, it definitely ruins the
- 26:25marathon ability of these movies.
- 26:28Yeah. Another thing with part two,
- 26:31though, that I don't really care for is like a lot of the stuff
- 26:35that we get with Ricky is barely Christmas.
- 26:38Yeah, him being in the hospital, not not very Christmassy.
- 26:43I mean, even though it is on Christmas Eve, but like all of
- 26:46his events leading up to him being put into the hospital of
- 26:51these like killings that he does.
- 26:54It's just during the summertime. Yeah, it's because of his
- 26:58ex-girlfriend, not because of Christmas.
- 27:01Yeah, I mean, I think if you wanted to keep this in theme of
- 27:05it being a Christmas horror movie and the whole thing, the
- 27:08trigger that got his brother and him being Santa Claus, have them
- 27:12like be a series of shit that he's done around Christmas time
- 27:15growing up. You know, I feel like that makes
- 27:17a lot more sense for his character, but it is just kind
- 27:21of weird. Like, this is a Christmas movie
- 27:23with not a lot of Christmas other than the first movie that
- 27:27is inserted in here. Yeah.
- 27:28And a little bit thrown in at the end.
- 27:30Yeah. Because he finally does go,
- 27:32like, dresses up like, Santa and everything.
- 27:34But yeah. Yeah.
- 27:35I mean, that's pretty much it. Like, other than like the
- 27:37absurdly bad acting that goes on in this.
- 27:39OK. Ugly.
- 27:41There's a lot of non consensual sex happening.
- 27:46There is. It's and I get that part of that
- 27:50is meant to be a trigger for Ricky and Billy because of what
- 27:53Santa did to their mom. However, having that dropped
- 27:59upon our laps thrice in one movie is quite a bit.
- 28:05Rice I can think of twice. What's the third one?
- 28:08Santa and the mom, the employees in the back of the toy store.
- 28:13Oh yeah, and the picnic couple. Yeah.
- 28:15Yeah, you're right. OK.
- 28:16Yeah. It's just, it's on.
- 28:18It's it's, yeah. That's always a tough thing to
- 28:23watch, even in like a, you know, like a movie like this right
- 28:25here. So yeah, it is kind of weird
- 28:27that they did it so many times. But yeah, I guess it kind of
- 28:29does make sense if you're trying to do that.
- 28:31But I don't know, like do the Santa trigger, you know, that's
- 28:34like I. Say there are plenty of other
- 28:36triggering things yeah like it feels almost like for shock
- 28:40value and I just. Could be yeah.
- 28:44Mine is how Mother Superior was a terrible caretaker.
- 28:49She did shit like tie them up to their beds and just like slap
- 28:53the shit out of them. Yeah.
- 28:55She created trauma all on her own too.
- 28:58Like, yeah, he's scared of the nuns, but he should be like,
- 29:01there should be a killer nun around here too maybe.
- 29:04Or maybe he would dress up as a nun.
- 29:05Right, that would be interesting.
- 29:07Yeah, but it's not Christmas, you know, like you got to pick a
- 29:11lane with this. 1/3 Whoo OK. There's a lot of absurd that
- 29:24happens. I think I, and I've already
- 29:26mentioned this, but I'm going to mention it again, that they
- 29:29recast from 17 to 18 year old Ricky.
- 29:33That's the weirdest thing. Like a year's difference and he
- 29:37he drastically changes physically it's.
- 29:40So funny and I mean it wasn't like a bad casting for the
- 29:43slightly younger version of him. It's just a weird choice.
- 29:47I think if they actually made him 15 I would maybe buy it a
- 29:50little bit more, but they cast him I guess as 15 and in the
- 29:54movie said 17 so. Yeah, they did.
- 29:57Somebody did bad math somewhere, didn't proofread a script,
- 30:00something. Yeah, OK.
- 30:03Is that your only episode that you got?
- 30:04That's the one I'm gonna movies like this.
- 30:06I feel like I have to stick with like the bigger ones just
- 30:09because there's a lot to choose from.
- 30:11OK, I got a couple here. OK.
- 30:14First off, 90% of Ricky's memory is from Billy's perspective, and
- 30:18even then, some of it isn't from his perspective.
- 30:21Some of it is shit that he had no business knowing because
- 30:24Billy wasn't even around to know about it.
- 30:25Like the thing with the dad getting busted by the cops going
- 30:30into his daughter's window to pretend to be Santa Claus.
- 30:33How's Ricky telling that story? I mean.
- 30:37How does Billy know anything that happened to Ricky since he
- 30:41like pops up and then dies? Like he doesn't know anything
- 30:44that happened after he left the orphanage basically.
- 30:46Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 30:47Like he doesn't know all this shit.
- 30:49Yeah. He's telling these stories to
- 30:51the doc. It's so funny.
- 30:53He saw that movie. Yeah.
- 30:55I guess, yeah, because they do watch the movie in this movie,
- 30:58which is another thing. And it's absurd because they go
- 31:01to see it when Ricky is like an adult.
- 31:04I've got the Ricky. Oh my God, Is that what he meant
- 31:07when the Doctor was like, how do you know all of this?
- 31:09And he's like, I was there. He meant that he was there in
- 31:12the movie theater. Yeah, he saw the movie.
- 31:15Yeah. What if this whole time he's
- 31:17just been lying to the dog? He's like telling him about this
- 31:20movie that he saw. Yeah, he's not actually Ricky.
- 31:24He is a Ricky. Not the same, Ricky.
- 31:27Yeah. Yeah.
- 31:28And then I've got the other things, some of them you've
- 31:30mentioned, like Ricky's age difference between 17 and 18.
- 31:34And also, I phrase it as Mother Superior getting the Loomis scar
- 31:38treatment, but worse. Yeah.
- 31:42And really, I think it was to disguise the fact that they
- 31:45recast Mother Superior. But you recast Ricky so many
- 31:49times in this one movie. Like, we're already adjusting to
- 31:52that. Actually.
- 31:54We're still kind of, like, focused on the idea that Ricky
- 31:57has been so many different people.
- 31:59We're not even concerned about Mother Superior.
- 32:02I don't even know what Mother Superior looks like.
- 32:04Yeah, I know exactly like I wouldn't be able to.
- 32:06And I'm just watching a movie that showed the original in it
- 32:10for 40 minutes. I yeah, I.
- 32:12And we get her. I didn't realize it was a
- 32:15different actress until you said so.
- 32:17And we get her like, for the end of the movie, just for a tiny
- 32:20little bit, like, you could have done it.
- 32:22It's so funny that they decided not to make her look normal.
- 32:26OK, so that's it. For all of the good, bad, ugly
- 32:28and absurd. What do you rate this?
- 32:31Man, this movie is absurd and objectively terrible and I adore
- 32:35it. I'm going to give it a 7.
- 32:37OK, Yeah, this is a fun movie. We watch it every year.
- 32:41So it's a classic with us. It's a it's a can't be classic.
- 32:45It's a cult classic. So if you're into those types of
- 32:47movies, this is going to be your thing.
- 32:49And I think I'm going to give it a 7 1/2. 7.25 starting average.
- 32:56All right. There we go.
- 32:58Ready to do this? We start off with some toe
- 33:02tapping, some really close eyeballs, indoor smoking because
- 33:05it's 1987. An orderly comes in and sets up
- 33:09a ginormous tape player because it's 1987.
- 33:12And then he is immediately dismissed by Doctor Bloom.
- 33:16And him and Ricky argue over the value of their time because the
- 33:21doctors, like, I charge several, many hundreds of dollars per
- 33:24hour. And Ricky's like, cool, I'm not
- 33:26here voluntarily, so you know, it's fine.
- 33:31Yeah, he tells him this is his last chance and we get a date on
- 33:35the screen. It's December 24th.
- 33:38So he's the doc finally asked the first question.
- 33:41He says sorry, who killed your parents?
- 33:44Santa. Santa Claus.
- 33:46So we get a flashback. Yep, they they're on the road,
- 33:50they're driving somewhere for Christmas.
- 33:51We don't know because we've not seen the first movie.
- 33:53Yes, and Billy or Ricky is just super casually in his mom's lap
- 34:00in the front seat. Yeah, safety, safety regulations
- 34:04and show like that way back in the 80s, you know, people didn't
- 34:07give a shit. 70s no, cuz this this would have been before the
- 34:1080s. I don't think that they're
- 34:12actually factoring in that end when they're making this movie.
- 34:14Well, I'm just I'm pointing out for our sake.
- 34:17We can't laugh at them for having dates wrong if we're
- 34:19gonna have dates wrong as. Well, yes, we absolutely can.
- 34:21No, yeah, I'm not. I'm not holding myself to the
- 34:24same standard I hold them to. They're on their way to their
- 34:28grandpa's house for Christmas Eve.
- 34:29I guess we do. Know where they're going then.
- 34:31Yeah, it Billy is 7 years old. So Ricky is that's their rough
- 34:38age difference is like six or seven years.
- 34:42Let's see where we at the car. They come across a car stopped
- 34:46in the middle of the road and it's Santa's car.
- 34:48He should be driving a sleigh. So first sign that that's not
- 34:52the real Santa Claus. But the parents are like, in
- 34:56their head. You can all see them.
- 34:57They're like, Oh my God, we're gonna help somebody in need.
- 34:59And we can also have this moment of like, Christmas magic for
- 35:03sons. Do you feel?
- 35:04Like that would like ruin it for them.
- 35:06Like damn, Santa's breaking down on the side of the road and he
- 35:08needs my mom and dad to help. Santa's not that cool after all.
- 35:12Oh, they would come up with some other type of bullshit.
- 35:15They already said that, like Santa.
- 35:16And like she called up Santa and let him know that they were
- 35:19gonna be at a different house. So like, kids are stupid.
- 35:22It's fine. They are.
- 35:25So Santa comes up and they're about to, you know, make a
- 35:29friendly remark. And then he just starts blasting
- 35:31he. Just takes out a fucking.
- 35:33Gun. They throw it in reverse and
- 35:35start driving off. Santa fires a few shots killing
- 35:38the dad. They end up getting wrecked in
- 35:40the ditch. He goes over.
- 35:43Billy has ran out of the. Hides behind a Bush.
- 35:46He gets out and runs away and Santa goes over there, throws
- 35:49the mom out, then starts to sexually assault her basically
- 35:53and he ends up just like slitting her throat and killing
- 35:58her. Meanwhile, Ricky's like crying
- 36:00in the car soon as that, yelling at Billy because he knows he's
- 36:03out there hiding somewhere. Dude that baby with that wreck
- 36:07that is still soft squishy stage of life that would have like
- 36:12Ricky would have had a lumpy head after that if he survived.
- 36:17After a wreck, yeah. It wasn't like a harsh wreck or
- 36:19anything like that. I think that they just got like
- 36:21watched over there. He's basically made of egg
- 36:24shells at this point. That's why.
- 36:25That's why his eyebrows look weird.
- 36:27Yeah, that's OK. So basically the sandwich just
- 36:30left them out there for dead. So they ended up being taken to
- 36:33an orphanage, Saint Mary's Orphanage.
- 36:35And who and when? And somebody also driving by
- 36:40being like, hey, I'm gonna help this family.
- 36:42My God. What would you do in that?
- 36:45Imagine cell phones aren't a thing.
- 36:48You know what I mean? Like you drive up and you see
- 36:50two orphaned children and a murder scene.
- 36:54So yeah, yeah, in that case right there, I guess you would
- 36:57just take the kids and go to the cops.
- 36:59Yeah, I guess I'm doing some vigilante kidnapping for the
- 37:03moment. I think that that's better than
- 37:07the alternate. Oh, hi, you guys, are you wow,
- 37:09this happened. You guys bye bye.
- 37:11And just drive off, like just leave them over there in the
- 37:14snow. Oh baby, bye bye.
- 37:17Exactly. I mean, would you rather them do
- 37:20that? Roll them down the hill?
- 37:23So they're at Saint Mary's Orphanage Now Billy has been in
- 37:26trouble because he has been drawing a killer Santa Claus
- 37:30during the art class. Mother Superiors is not very
- 37:33happy about that, so she sends them to his room.
- 37:36So he goes up to just kind of be in time.
- 37:39Now he's watching out the window, watching all the kids
- 37:41play. But Sister Margaret comes up,
- 37:43and she's like, hey, listen, Mother Superior just wants
- 37:46what's best for you. And I think what's best for you
- 37:48is to come build a snowman. So he starts to put on his coat
- 37:53and come downstairs, and he hears the sounds of future
- 37:57Catholic guilt, that is to say, sex and.
- 38:00People sex and yeah, and very loudly.
- 38:03He does some peeping Tom and he gets caught by Mother Superior
- 38:07and she maybe unlocks a kink for them.
- 38:11I don't know because she. She busts in there, Yeah, she
- 38:14gets out of her belt and they're like full on adults butt ass
- 38:18naked here. Yeah, like, maybe.
- 38:21Yeah, that doesn't really. It doesn't really seem like the
- 38:25best way to handle. Yeah.
- 38:28And then she comes and finds Billy downstairs and she's like,
- 38:31listen, they were naughty, they get punished.
- 38:34Punishment is good. Punishment is absolute.
- 38:37So this child is just emotionally destroyed.
- 38:42Fucking Billy, man. Yeah, so he's, we go back to him
- 38:45with the doc. He's continuing to give the doc
- 38:48a hard time. He tells him he's shrink #13.
- 38:51Yeah. Yeah, and he's like, all right,
- 38:53So what do you dream about then? Ricky, He's like, I don't sleep.
- 38:58But Billy, dude, he just starts telling him all about Billy's
- 39:01nightmares. Like Billy, we used to tell me
- 39:03about them all the time. Yeah, so Billy would have
- 39:05nightmares and he'd try and, like, run out of the house, so
- 39:08Mother Superior would just tie him to his bed.
- 39:11Yeah. Super play hide the hide the
- 39:13soul. Yeah.
- 39:14Basically, yeah, it's fucked up. And like all of the other nuns
- 39:19in there see that shit and they don't do anything.
- 39:22Nobody stands up to Mother Superior, do you?
- 39:24Do you not think Mother Superior would also tie them to their
- 39:27beds? They can.
- 39:29They can mutiny. I think that they could.
- 39:32I don't think that's. How they can overthrow Mother
- 39:34Superior? That's how it works with nuns.
- 39:35Should should there should be more mutinies?
- 39:39There should be more nun mutiny. There absolutely should.
- 39:42I'm pro non mutiny. Sisters are doing it for
- 39:48themselves. Sisters rise up.
- 39:50Yeah. OK, so yeah, he they have a
- 39:57whole thing where they're trying to force Billy to sit on Santa's
- 40:00lap also, and he freaks out and attacks Santa and knocks him
- 40:02over. Listen, I'm just going to go out
- 40:04and say this. If a child doesn't want to sit
- 40:06on Santa's lap, Catholic orphanage or not, you don't do
- 40:09that. Stop making your kids interact
- 40:13with other human beings in a way they're not comfortable with.
- 40:16Stop telling them that they have to hug a relative.
- 40:19Stop doing all of that. Let them set their own personal
- 40:22boundaries. Not everybody's cool with
- 40:24sitting on a stranger's lap. I also feel like they would know
- 40:28his history at this point too so.
- 40:29Oh, Mother's superior definitely knows.
- 40:32She's just a bitch it. Could be she's like, oh, it's
- 40:34exposure therapy. We just got to get him around
- 40:36Santa. She.
- 40:36Probably doesn't believe in therapy.
- 40:38Yeah, probably not. So he then asked the doctors,
- 40:42asked what happened to Billy after he left the orphanage.
- 40:45And wouldn't you know, Ricky has the answers because, you know,
- 40:49he definitely did not speak to Billy again.
- 40:51Yeah, because he he turned 18 and Sister Mary helped him get a
- 40:54job at a toy store as their Santa.
- 40:58What the fuck? They really are set.
- 41:02They're set against this kid, right?
- 41:05Here, hard U-turn whenever it's Ricky's time to leave and how
- 41:09they approach him leaving the work.
- 41:12Get him a yeah, a whole other family that will not have any.
- 41:15Yeah, we're gonna have him adopted by a Jewish couple.
- 41:20But Billy, no, you're gonna become Santa.
- 41:23I hope that's cool. That's crazy.
- 41:26Yeah, like he's old enough to be out on his own and he isn't.
- 41:30Yeah, he doesn't get any say. Yeah, and he is, like, quietly
- 41:33threatening all of the children and the adults are oblivious.
- 41:36They're like, oh look, he's so good with the kids.
- 41:39Yeah, I know. Yeah, he, he's like telling kids
- 41:41like that they're naughty and he's gonna punish them.
- 41:44So later that night, it's Christmas Eve, I believe.
- 41:47Yeah, just from the all the context squeezes I picked up
- 41:50from the scene. But they're having like a little
- 41:51party get together with the employees at the toy store.
- 41:54Yeah, staff party, getting drunk in your place of employment,
- 41:57that's fun. Yeah.
- 41:59When it's like, you know, appropriate.
- 42:01Yeah, yeah. After hours, yeah.
- 42:05Hours. Toys after that.
- 42:08So yeah, he's like dressed up in a Santa outfit and they're
- 42:13celebrating and then a couple goes into the backroom there.
- 42:18And then the catalyst for this I picked up is the owner of the
- 42:23store is like, oh, Santa, I guess.
- 42:26I guess you got to get going. And you know what Santa does on
- 42:29Christmas Eve, don't you? And then kill those people.
- 42:31Yeah. He's like I do.
- 42:33So he takes it upon himself to go kill the people that are
- 42:37naughty. Yeah, he gets back there and the
- 42:39man is like trying to force the woman to do so she's not
- 42:42comfortable with, so he kills him and then she is afraid of
- 42:47Billy because you know, of the murder, so he kills her as well.
- 42:53That's naughty. You can't be.
- 42:54Yeah, and. Then put.
- 42:56You on the naughty list immediately.
- 42:57That's number one. The manager is very drunk and he
- 43:00comes back to see what all the fuss is, and then he gets
- 43:03murdered. And then there's one woman
- 43:05who's, just like a shivering little leaf, wanders back as
- 43:09well. Yeah, she puts up the best
- 43:11fight. Yeah, she.
- 43:12Like hides, she throws it. To the front door and she does
- 43:15manage to call the cops before she is also killed so.
- 43:20What do these people do? Like what makes them naughty?
- 43:22I guess we'll have to watch the first one to know.
- 43:25I mean, they were clearly being naughty.
- 43:27Naughty drunk, I guess. I don't know, yeah.
- 43:30Drunk sex, afraid of Santa, you know all the those are three of
- 43:34the seven deadly sins, I think. Yeah, yeah.
- 43:38So yeah, Ricky now is like he's decided to go over to Lynnea
- 43:42Quigley's house because Lynnea Quigley, as we all know.
- 43:46Yeah, well Ricky says that none of this is Billy's fault.
- 43:49This is all Mother Superiors fault for instilling the sense
- 43:52of it from him. And so Billy has the sense of
- 43:57naughty and nice, and he sees Lynnea Quigley doing what Lynnea
- 44:00Quigley does. Also, I'm not this.
- 44:04This could act as an absurd because her and her boyfriend
- 44:07are making out on a pool table. Not good for the felt.
- 44:10And then she hears her cat's collar jangling outside and she
- 44:13gets dressed so she can let the cat in.
- 44:16But what that involves is just putting on a pair of the tiniest
- 44:20strange shorts in existence. Boob Lidge still full out.
- 44:24Yeah, boobs still out and still getting enough of the booty with
- 44:29those shorts for sure. Yeah, that wedgie hurt me to see
- 44:34it. It wasn't comfortable.
- 44:36So she gets impaled on a stuffed deer head.
- 44:40Yeah. She lets the cat in and Ricky
- 44:42busts in. It's a pretty solid kill.
- 44:44Yeah, it's a, it's a iconic one, yeah.
- 44:46And. Kudos to whoever mounted that
- 44:48deer head as well. They definitely.
- 44:50Saw in their towel. Yeah, yeah, they, they either
- 44:52found the studs or they they did an excellent job anchoring it to
- 44:56the wall. I wish we had a scene like
- 44:58Thanksgiving in this right here where he, like, goes over to the
- 45:00cat because the cat, yeah, I just came into.
- 45:02He's like, all right, you're not naughty, You're nice.
- 45:04I wish that the drywall had just like ripped.
- 45:09I got out into it. Oh my God, that would be
- 45:11hilarious. Yeah, the boyfriend comes up,
- 45:13sees the body, gets into a fight with Ricky, and he also ends up
- 45:16getting Axe. Yeah, you mean that in the
- 45:19figurative sense? Cuz he's killed by being thrown
- 45:21out the window. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:24In a movie that does involve axes, we mean to specify.
- 45:28That's fair. The.
- 45:28Cops are after Santa on Christmas Eve.
- 45:31Ha ha ha ha. They're acting like this is a
- 45:34brand new thing, that as though nobody in a Santa suit has ever
- 45:39gone a little wild. It does look a little
- 45:43suspicious. To see a man crawling through a
- 45:46second story window on the ladder, why is he doing that to
- 45:49his daughter? I'm just like walking through
- 45:51like the the fucking door. Like Santa knows how to get into
- 45:54the house through magic waves like chimneys and like cracks.
- 45:58The levels that this. Man is going to to deceive his
- 46:02child. Yeah, violate.
- 46:05Her space. Make her feel like she doesn't
- 46:07deserve to have a locked window in her bedroom.
- 46:10This is like a thing of the time.
- 46:12This is. Like the scream thing where
- 46:13Billy just comes in through the window, you know what I mean?
- 46:15It's just like, this is how people used to go say hey,
- 46:19including Santa Claus. Yeah.
- 46:21So yeah, the cops. Ruin a perfectly.
- 46:23Good. Surprise.
- 46:24The dad's like, oh, I'm the dad and the kid, the kids like,
- 46:29Daddy, you're not Santa. Yeah, just ruins.
- 46:32Like, way to go, cops. Meanwhile, Sister Margaret.
- 46:35Has figured out that something bad is happening and as a Santa
- 46:39approaches Saint Mary's, he is shot right in front of Ricky.
- 46:43And we learned that it actually it wasn't Billy in that Santa
- 46:47suit, it was the janitor old man Kelsey, who was just trying to
- 46:50do something nice for the for the orphans he works with.
- 46:54Yeah, just. But one of the cops comes in
- 46:58and. He's like, all right, you all
- 46:59are going to stay locked right in here.
- 47:02I'm a cop, so nothing bad will ever happen.
- 47:06And he goes outside and something bad happens.
- 47:08He is killed. And then Billy Bussen and he is
- 47:14shot. Yeah.
- 47:15They just like a little kid. Let's.
- 47:17In and they're like don't do it like they just killed us and do
- 47:19you want this guy in here and the kid doesn't fucking care.
- 47:22He just goes everything let's in because this is Santa Claus.
- 47:24Yeah, he probably didn't want to see another.
- 47:26You're Santa die on Christmas Eve.
- 47:28I can't. I can't fault the kid.
- 47:30Too bad, because he sees one. Murdered right in front of him
- 47:33again. Yeah, this one.
- 47:35Was about to kill Mother Superior too, so the orphanage
- 47:39closed. At this point we are 39 minutes
- 47:41into the movie and now we're starting a new story.
- 47:43Yeah, finally we've got. Part 1 out of the way now he's
- 47:47been adopted by the Rosenbergs, which.
- 47:51Travis did not put this together that they're a Jewish family
- 47:56because he was like, they definitely did not celebrate
- 47:58Christmas. So that was, you know, probably,
- 48:02probably the kind of innovative thinking they should have taken
- 48:05with the Lee at some point in his.
- 48:07Nobody adopted them. So they.
- 48:08Yeah, yeah. But also to.
- 48:10Get him a job as a toy store. Santa was probably.
- 48:13That was bad. Yeah, yeah, that was.
- 48:15Was there no McDonald's nearby? Like, yeah, they're, they're
- 48:19surely. Good.
- 48:19I mean, like, we see him later. He's like that dishwasher or
- 48:21something. Yeah.
- 48:22You know, he's taking out the trash.
- 48:23Yeah. Yeah, Well, he's so he's got
- 48:25trauma. Life was good, but he's walking
- 48:28down the sidewalk with his mom and he sees some nuns walking by
- 48:31and this freaks him the fuck out.
- 48:32Then he also sees red fabric, and that just puts him over the
- 48:35edge. Can you imagine having a kid
- 48:37just being afraid of the color red it would feel like having.
- 48:41That tiny little bowl. Yeah, except he's not like.
- 48:44Steamrolling everything around. He's just over there like shit.
- 48:47He kind of, yeah, he kind of goes.
- 48:49Into like an absent seizure state and she's freaking out.
- 48:53So her and Morty go and talk to Sister Mary and she's like,
- 48:57listen, as long as you guys love the trauma out of him, he'll be
- 49:02fine. And Ward, he's like, that's my
- 49:04son, damn it. And Martha's like, that is our
- 49:06student. They take a huge turn.
- 49:08They're like fuck. This kid, this kid can't take
- 49:10him anywhere. Nuns oozes and shit, shits his
- 49:12pants. He's red, Forget about it.
- 49:15And then like, just love him. Like, that's my fucking son,
- 49:17boy. Yeah.
- 49:20How dare you say that? It's so funny.
- 49:24They just, like, completely turn.
- 49:25Yeah. So five years later, the dad had
- 49:27died. Yeah.
- 49:28He is now 1517. Whatever age you want to
- 49:31believe, 15 going on 17 and. Then he's like, all right, doc,
- 49:36I'm going. To tell you something I've never
- 49:37told anybody before, so and the doctor says.
- 49:41Let it out. I love this quote.
- 49:43From him because like this is another example of bad writing,
- 49:47but it's so good. He's like, you tend to get
- 49:49paranoid when everyone around you gets dead.
- 49:52That's why. Here's the thing.
- 49:54He's definitely. Said that out loud to a
- 49:56different there one of the other 12 therapists he's spoken to,
- 50:00he's definitely said that out loud.
- 50:01He's workshopped yeah with the. Other 12, yeah, only perfected
- 50:04it with 13 I think. Yeah, so he was.
- 50:07That's great because he's paranoid of everybody.
- 50:09Around him dying, he likes to go for walks alone and spy on
- 50:13lovers having sex that will surely involve ants biting them
- 50:17on delicate parts of their body. Yeah, they're having a little
- 50:20picnic. And the guy gets a little bit
- 50:23too forceful with his advances. Buck, Eddie.
- 50:27She and she ends up kicking him in the balls.
- 50:30Which she's like, fuck this, I'm out of here.
- 50:32So he starts to head back to the Jeep.
- 50:34Actually, what he says is. I'm trying to go get a beer and
- 50:37then we're gonna continue this conversation.
- 50:41Scary. Not verbatim, but yeah.
- 50:44Yeah, that is worse basically. Yeah, I'm gonna go get.
- 50:46Drunk and angrier and you better figure out what's best for you,
- 50:49lady. And Ricky is like no naughty
- 50:54punish punish and he runs Eddie over with his own Jeep and the
- 50:59girlfriend sees and she goes like nice little nod dude.
- 51:03She watches him. He.
- 51:04Doesn't just like run him over, he like goes back and forth,
- 51:07back and forth, over and over again with it.
- 51:09And then as he's walking out of the Jeep, he is me trying to.
- 51:13Parallel park, Exactly. Yeah, yeah.
- 51:16But like, she walks over to the Jeep and he gets out and Ricky
- 51:19just stares at her and she's like, thank you.
- 51:22Like he's just fucking murdered a guy right in front of you and
- 51:26that's all you have to say is thank you.
- 51:28And then they just stare at each other silently for like a
- 51:30minute. To be fair, the way that.
- 51:32Relationship was going. There was not zero chance that
- 51:36he was gonna attempt to murder her.
- 51:38Probably so, yeah. But we'll never know.
- 51:42Yeah, because he he did the murder first and then what the.
- 51:47Doctor took from this is red car and I think this is what he
- 51:51means when he says he's never told another doctor this because
- 51:54this and the next murder aren't in any of the previous notes.
- 51:58Yeah exactly. So the fact that the doctor gets
- 52:00all the all the hot teeth from Ricky in this moment and all he
- 52:05wrote down was a red car. So my favorite thing about it is
- 52:08he's got. Everything on his paper normal
- 52:10like riding text size, but red car in the center in gigantic
- 52:14font notes look like a word cloud.
- 52:16Yeah, it's kind of like the word cloud.
- 52:17It's like red. Car and then like he like cuts
- 52:20to it and he like got so engrossed with the making of the
- 52:24giant red car that Ricky is over there in his ear.
- 52:26He's like red car. Good point.
- 52:29And she's so fucking funny. He turns around on the.
- 52:31Doctor starts. Asking him about his family, if
- 52:34he had kids, college, whatnot. And Ricky goes mildly.
- 52:39He couldn't afford college so I had to work.
- 52:42Yep. So now he.
- 52:44Is at a job at some place a kitchen I assume because he's
- 52:47wearing like an yeah he definitely he says that he.
- 52:49Like does dishes and takes out the trash.
- 52:51So he's probably a dishwasher at like a restaurant of some sort.
- 52:54There's like this bookie dude out in the.
- 52:56Back that's hassling a dude for money and and it's like and it's
- 53:00a very comical. He's so cartoony.
- 53:04I really I hope you don't. Pay because.
- 53:06I am having so much fun beating you up.
- 53:09It's not. I didn't write down the, it's
- 53:10basically it. It's so over the.
- 53:12Top though, it's so funny and then Ricky just like comes over
- 53:16behind him cuz like the guy has like pushed the other dude down
- 53:18on the ground. He's about to walk off.
- 53:20Ricky busts into him and then he just takes him, grabs and grabs
- 53:24an umbrella that's just happens to be there.
- 53:26Myers holds him up against the. Wall also and this lighting with
- 53:32his white shirt and his slick back hair he looks like skeetal
- 53:35rich a much bigger. Skeet.
- 53:38But yeah, I can definitely see the resemblance.
- 53:40He looks like Billy Loomis. So yeah, he stabs him all the
- 53:48way through with the umbrella and then just opens up.
- 53:51Oh my. God, I love it so much.
- 53:53I I want to see the uncut footage from that kill.
- 53:56Yeah, I I want to know. How much worse it was, honestly.
- 54:00So yeah. And this is where the dog.
- 54:03Is like Oh my God I have no mention of these in any of my
- 54:06past so it's what the fuck is happening.
- 54:08He's so sweaty. He is Jordan Peele in.
- 54:11That skate where the porn was found on the top, It's so funny
- 54:15too because like, you can tell. It's not going anywhere.
- 54:17Somebody would literally just walked up to him with a what?
- 54:20Like a yeah, we have some blistering for.
- 54:23You. But don't worry, it's so funny.
- 54:27Let's see? He asked.
- 54:28About Jennifer, Yeah, he asked about Jennifer and.
- 54:31Ricky says eat shit. And then he pulls out a picture
- 54:34of Jennifer, which is clearly the actress's head shot.
- 54:37Yeah, yeah. It's so funny.
- 54:39And. Then he finds a better way to
- 54:41phrase the question. He's like, all right, so why are
- 54:43you here, Ricky? And then he's like, oh, let me
- 54:45tell you all about Jennifer. Yeah, so they met by a little
- 54:51Fender Bender. He was backing out his
- 54:52motorcycle. She was driving reckless casual
- 54:55vehicular. Homicide.
- 54:56Yeah, he was going to get pissed.
- 54:58But then he looks up and he sees her, and he's like, wow, yeah,
- 55:01he's stunned. He had her.
- 55:04His first time with her and thought that it was her first
- 55:07time too. So he's going to be like.
- 55:12That then they go to a movie theater and there is an
- 55:15obnoxious guy in the back row who is heckling through the
- 55:19trailers and you just know it's not going to get any better.
- 55:21Oh my God, his friend that's sitting.
- 55:23Next to him looks like he hates him.
- 55:25He's so embarrassed to be next to this guy.
- 55:28It's kind of funny though. Hold your friend accountable
- 55:31then, man. Like you have the power, he's
- 55:33just like mimicking the. Sound from the trailers in the
- 55:37movies and stuff, yeah. It's it's kind of funny.
- 55:41Yeah. So.
- 55:43He decides that he's going to go deal with that, and while he's
- 55:48doing that, oh wait, no, the thing that triggers them, they
- 55:50start. Watching Silent Night, Deadly
- 55:52Night One, Yeah. And then as soon as he says,
- 55:54what is this movie about anyway? And she goes, Oh my God, it's
- 55:57great. It's a movie about a killer
- 56:00scene. Yeah.
- 56:00And then like, she's like. What?
- 56:03Yeah, I guess my. Voice was like so.
- 56:05High pitched like that, it's like the actor didn't.
- 56:08Know that that was the next line and he was like wait, what?
- 56:12Yeah, but like, like the thing that.
- 56:13Triggers him is he sees the killer Santa in that movie so as
- 56:17soon as he sees that kill and he's like hold on, I gotta go
- 56:19take care of something yeah so. While he's gone, which we'll get
- 56:24to that in a second, what he's doing, this guy pops up and
- 56:28starts hassling Jennifer. This is Chip, her ex.
- 56:31Yeah, his date is just like watching all of this go down,
- 56:35and she's pretty annoyed, too. And then Ricky is in the back
- 56:39row with the hecklers and he goes, no, I really like.
- 56:42This shot because, like, it's the guy watching a movie, he
- 56:45just keeps leaning over and the camera like follows him as he
- 56:47like when like weans over to like talk to his friend.
- 56:50Yeah. And he's right there.
- 56:51See, that's the good camera work, right?
- 56:52Yeah, that, that's a fun shot. I will give credit to that.
- 56:56And he comes back and sits down next to Jennifer and she's like,
- 56:59let's leave this movie stem. He goes, you know what?
- 57:02I'm enjoying it. I I love the way it's like.
- 57:05Actually, I'm beginning to like this picture.
- 57:09That's so fucking stupid. So later, they're walking.
- 57:12This is the one time in this movie that Eric Freeman delivers
- 57:16his lines like a normal fucking person.
- 57:18Yeah. So hey, So like, I figured like,
- 57:20you know, we can maybe go see a movie or something after this
- 57:23and then like, Eric Freeman gets to be the actor.
- 57:25He trained to be, Yeah. He's like a normal, like he's
- 57:28not. Given this like super deep
- 57:30performance with his voice or anything like that.
- 57:32Yeah. But they stumble across Chip,
- 57:34who's working on his car, and Chip starts to bring up the past
- 57:38with Jennifer again. And then he mentioned something
- 57:41about. How they had had sex and that
- 57:44sends Ricky over the edge and he takes the jumper cables that he
- 57:48has. Was the black grounded to
- 57:50anything? Didn't see it doesn't matter
- 57:52because enough of a connection happens.
- 57:56That chip is fully fried. Yep, electrocuted, Fried.
- 58:00Potato chip, we're talking. Shopping mall.
- 58:02We're talking child's play 1 lightning bolts.
- 58:06We were talking the. Illustrative cover for National
- 58:10Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. These are the type of lighting
- 58:13effects. That we're getting in this
- 58:15motion picture, people, it's fantastic.
- 58:18Jennifer loses her shit because he killed him right in front of
- 58:22her, whereas I put it simply in. My notes Jennifer dumped me.
- 58:27Oh yeah, Yeah, she kind of. Dumps me and she's like naughty
- 58:30punish. Yeah, so he he kills her too.
- 58:33Yeah, and then a cop. A cop.
- 58:35Is just like, hold on, freeze Mr. He's already like on the
- 58:38job. She's like, I didn't like that
- 58:40job chip guy, but. That Jennifer lady didn't
- 58:42deserve that. And Ricky comes over and manages
- 58:46to twist the gun to face the cop, shoots him, takes his gun
- 58:48and then he goes on a spree around the neighborhood.
- 58:51This is one of the best like. You've probably seen this from
- 58:55the meme itself. I just fucking love how he just
- 58:57takes the gun and he just gives the stupid ha ha ha ha laugh the
- 59:01entire time just going around shooting everybody.
- 59:04He's he's except. For the little kid on the
- 59:05tricycle, but he sees like one guy taking out his garbage and
- 59:09this is such an infamous line, but he goes garbage day and
- 59:13then. He shoots at the man the.
- 59:14Man, full panics and I love this move because it's so real.
- 59:18Holds the trash can up as like armor and goes no, no, yeah.
- 59:23And then he like flies. Back in school motion.
- 59:24That's an action movie shot right there.
- 59:26It's amazing, yeah. So he continues his.
- 59:29Rampage. And then he finally comes across
- 59:32a roadblock of two cops that are holding him at gunpoint.
- 59:34And then he takes the gun points a he's like, they're all
- 59:38pleading for him not to do it. He pulls the trigger, but he's
- 59:41out. No bullets.
- 59:42Oh yeah, no. Bullets.
- 59:43That's. Exactly what I said so.
- 59:49You know, that's that's the story of that.
- 59:51And the tape is now empty. And that's because the doctor
- 59:55has been killed and can replace the tape in the tape recorder
- 59:58just cuts and yeah, the doctor. He's dead.
- 1:00:00He walks out and then you hear just everybody dying in the
- 1:00:03hallway. As he's on his way out of the
- 1:00:05hospital, we see one of the. Sisters telling the cop that
- 1:00:10Mother Superior retired and lives alone ever since her
- 1:00:14stroke. And we see them think that,
- 1:00:19well, surely Ricky won't figure out where she lives.
- 1:00:22But joke's on them 'cause Ricky has already killed a Salvation
- 1:00:26Army Santa, stolen the suit and some of the change from the
- 1:00:29bucket, presumably so he can make this call on the on the pay
- 1:00:32phone to let Mother Superior know that he's coming.
- 1:00:35How does he know? How did he know we're together?
- 1:00:37You've been keeping tabs. He's like.
- 1:00:38She's the devil. She.
- 1:00:39Probably lives at 666. Yeah, probably.
- 1:00:42She is the. House number.
- 1:00:44Where she actually lives, the way she would have agreed to
- 1:00:46live there. Like I have to assume this is a
- 1:00:49situation where like because she worked for the church and like
- 1:00:53she probably wasn't making huge money, right?
- 1:00:55Like so I feel like this was housing that she was given after
- 1:00:59she retired. It's a two-story house with like
- 1:01:01the. Accessibility for a wheelchair.
- 1:01:04Yeah, yeah, but I can't imagine her willingly live.
- 1:01:08In a 666, No, no, I I think it's.
- 1:01:13Funny though for the movie, Yeah.
- 1:01:14Also, this is like probably the best delivery for a Merry
- 1:01:18Christmas I've ever heard in a movie.
- 1:01:19When he calls her, it's like Merry Christmas like that.
- 1:01:23I fucking say that every single year like that.
- 1:01:25He says it multiple times a year.
- 1:01:26He. Said it about 10 times already
- 1:01:29this week, so it's fantastic. It's it's.
- 1:01:31Like seared in my brain this moment right here.
- 1:01:34All right, so I like this little thing of like, there is a little
- 1:01:42toy Santa that's walking on the sidewalk that is creeping out
- 1:01:45the kids outside Mother Superior's house.
- 1:01:48And the kids freak out and run away, but it's really Ricky
- 1:01:51that's walking down the sidewalk crushing the toy that freaked
- 1:01:54them out inside. Mother.
- 1:01:57Superior is getting very angry at parades.
- 1:02:00Yeah, she's just complaining. Yeah, she, I think she said it.
- 1:02:04Was all like sacrilegious or whatever, but yeah, she's, she's
- 1:02:08really annoyed about it. And then Ricky appears and they
- 1:02:11have a chase scene through this house.
- 1:02:14But at one point she's like, just taunts him.
- 1:02:17And she was like, you're naughty.
- 1:02:19You're just a naughty boy and you need to be punished.
- 1:02:22And what does Ricky say to that? Naughty this, naughty this.
- 1:02:27Yeah. Oh my God.
- 1:02:29Then he axes her and we don't see the cops arrive.
- 1:02:33They bust in through the door. They think that maybe they got
- 1:02:35her, and they see her at the table.
- 1:02:37Yeah, just sitting. Also perfect.
- 1:02:39And we're like, what happened? With Ricky, did the power of
- 1:02:42Christ compel him? Seems plausible.
- 1:02:45No, actually, her head, her Kappa has in fact been dictated.
- 1:02:51So that's a bummer. And then Ricky tries to pop out
- 1:02:54to take care of the rest of these fools in this house, and
- 1:02:57they shoot him and he flies through the window and he's dead
- 1:03:00in the snow. Or is he?
- 1:03:01Because. They hear the sister mother's
- 1:03:05superior, or no, not mother's superior.
- 1:03:07They hear, like, one of the sisters scream, and then it cuts
- 1:03:10back to Billy. Not really Ricky.
- 1:03:12And his eyes open. Yeah.
- 1:03:13And he smiles at the camera. And, you know, he's still alive,
- 1:03:18Ish. In fact, I believe he's played
- 1:03:20by another Ricky in the next movie, Bill Mosley.
- 1:03:24Ricky is who he is with his brain out on display.
- 1:03:29It's so fucking weird. This.
- 1:03:30This series goes so many weird places.
- 1:03:32Yeah, but that's that's the movie.
- 1:03:35That's how it ends. I think I'm gonna keep it at A7.
- 1:03:38I think maybe having the unrated version perhaps would help.
- 1:03:43That'd be cool. I'd be down with that.
- 1:03:45I'm gonna keep mine at 7 1/2. I just love this movie.
- 1:03:49Like, it's just entertaining. It's fun.
- 1:03:51It's got the camp to it. That makes it endearing.
- 1:03:55Talia. She was, she was sleepy while we
- 1:03:58were watching this, but like she was fighting the sleep, like she
- 1:04:01kept getting up, moving around, trying to keep herself awake.
- 1:04:04She wanted to watch this. This is also a Christmas
- 1:04:06tradition for her because no dogs were harmed.
- 1:04:09I think she's actually going to give this an 8.
- 1:04:11If it were the original script, she would.
- 1:04:12Have hated this but but because the directors.
- 1:04:15Knew. The writers knew.
- 1:04:16Yeah. They're like, that's too far,
- 1:04:18yeah. She wants to reward them for.
- 1:04:19Following their correct instincts on that, Zoe's
- 1:04:24Ultimate Warrior. She's got a lot to pick from
- 1:04:27here. Mm hmm.
- 1:04:32Do we think it's the cat? That Linnea Quickly's house.
- 1:04:39It cats usually get it with her, Yeah, like she respects it
- 1:04:43especially. When they survive the movie,
- 1:04:44like she's like, yeah, that's that's me.
- 1:04:46It's survived that sees herself in that.
- 1:04:48Yeah, I also got to hang. Out with Lania.
- 1:04:50Quigley Yeah, So LQ's cat. OK, cool LQ.
- 1:04:54Cat LQ. I wrote LQ's.
- 1:04:56LQ's cat. Right dream.
- 1:05:00Sequel Who'd you relate to? Who did I?
- 1:05:02Relate to Oh boy. I think I relate to the man
- 1:05:13taking out his garbage and trying to use it as a shield.
- 1:05:16OK, Because that was, that's a good move.
- 1:05:19That's like an instinctive move that I just, I felt in my bones,
- 1:05:23you know? OK, I.
- 1:05:25Relate to Ricky in the theater having to deal with the fucking
- 1:05:29hackers? Cuz I've been I've had to do
- 1:05:30that multiple times this year. It's not been a problem for many
- 1:05:34years. I've hardly had to do it.
- 1:05:36I do think you somewhat take. This burden on yourself, well,
- 1:05:41it's. Not like anybody's asking me to.
- 1:05:43I'm telling myself, you got to do it Exactly.
- 1:05:45Somebody's got to do it. Somebody's got to tell the
- 1:05:47people shut up. So that's what, you know, I've
- 1:05:50done a couple times this year. And you told me next time I do
- 1:05:53it, I need to go over to the person, get in the chair next to
- 1:05:55them and go. Yeah.
- 1:05:58I do think you need to, if they have a friend, be really fun
- 1:06:00next to them. Cool, if they have a friend next
- 1:06:03to them, I might even just like, hey, it swap seats with me real
- 1:06:06quick. It's terrible.
- 1:06:07Yeah, trust me. If you've seen Selena Deadelina
- 1:06:09too, you'll you'll this, this will have a great, Yeah.
- 1:06:12I like that. Meantime, like the person.
- 1:06:14That you're trying to show she's just like talking over both of
- 1:06:17you, yeah. OK, OK, now dream sequel.
- 1:06:25I wanna see Ricky is caught like he's who did, who did.
- 1:06:32Ricky traumatize this time, he's got to pass the trauma down to
- 1:06:36somebody else. OK, OK.
- 1:06:38I'm gonna say that he traumatized the little kid on
- 1:06:42the tricycle during the neighborhood shooting sequence.
- 1:06:46Yeah, for. Sure.
- 1:06:48And that kid, like, we just see a sequence.
- 1:06:50Of that kid growing up and it goes from tricycle to
- 1:06:53motorcycle. He's he hates red cars so.
- 1:06:57Yeah, yeah, yeah. Good point.
- 1:07:00The the driver. In the red car.
- 1:07:02Was his dad? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:06OK, yeah. So, yeah, he traumatized that
- 1:07:08kid. Then it comes around Christmas
- 1:07:12time again. Yeah, this time more Christmas
- 1:07:15for sure. OK.
- 1:07:18I think that works. That works for me.
- 1:07:19Yeah. You just take it from there.
- 1:07:20I like that. OK.
- 1:07:21I like. That all right.
- 1:07:25I guess we are now at Sagwon. Oh boy.
- 1:07:32Better hope Santa doesn't leave. Some punishment in your
- 1:07:36stalking? That's not bad.
- 1:07:42Naughty and nice is the same as alive or dead.
- 1:07:54I'm gonna be really honest, I said.
- 1:07:55Naughty and nice and I did not know what the end of that was
- 1:07:58gonna be. I've been workshopping naughty
- 1:07:59and nice. In my head too.
- 1:08:01And then I heard that I'm like, oh fucking fantastic.
- 1:08:06Garbage day for your. Garbage morals.
- 1:08:13Is your car red? Naughty this, nice this.
- 1:08:19Naughty this nice. Naughty this, naughty this this.
- 1:08:22Nice. What?
- 1:08:25Are you saying? Well, at the end he's like,
- 1:08:28naughty. This I got that.
- 1:08:31What are? What are all of the extra words
- 1:08:33I got? Naughty this, nice this.
- 1:08:36This nice. It just kind of got me trapped
- 1:08:40right there for a second. Nice that naughty this.
- 1:08:43Nice that naughty this. Nice stand a naughty that.
- 1:08:52That's a. That's a tagline.
- 1:08:53What nice Santa hat naughty. What is
- 1:09:13happening? Red car.
- 1:09:17Good movie. Naughty or nice?
- 1:09:22You get the same movie twice. I also wanna do like a.
- 1:09:28Cheesy 90s comedy tagline. Like one brother was naughty,
- 1:09:33one brother was nice, but they'll both end up on Santa's
- 1:09:37bad list this year. Oh man.
- 1:09:44That's not bad. I mean, it's yeah, they're
- 1:09:49they're these are all kind of terrible, but I think it kind of
- 1:09:52works 1. Man's garbage day.
- 1:09:58Is another man's treasure. That's good, alright.
- 1:10:02One man's garbage day is another man's.
- 1:10:04Treasure, please let me know when you're.
- 1:10:07Editing this and you come across your entire word salad.
- 1:10:11Oh yeah, I'll let you listen to that.
- 1:10:13Again, OK. It.
- 1:10:16Yeah. It went to a dark place there
- 1:10:19for a second. Yeah.
- 1:10:21Yeah. OK, cool.
- 1:10:22Well, then I guess that means that we can move on over to
- 1:10:25reviews. Thank God.
- 1:10:26Yeah. So.
- 1:10:28I actually went and got us a critic review this time.
- 1:10:31Oh boy, you mean the critics? Weren't favorable of this.
- 1:10:34Maybe some were, surprisingly. Actually, but we have they're
- 1:10:39mostly recent, so it's post meme.
- 1:10:42Yeah, for some reason I couldn't really find any old ones, but
- 1:10:46this is somebody from 2012. Tim Brayton of Antagony and
- 1:10:51Ecstasy reviewed this. He gave it a one out of 10.
- 1:10:56So this is a just a decent little chunk of the review here.
- 1:10:59OK, here's an axe. Crazy psychopath.
- 1:11:02Here are disjointed, arbitrary scenes of him killing people.
- 1:11:05VN. I'm really truly not
- 1:11:07exaggerating. There are of course other
- 1:11:09reasons to watch The Thing than joy at the sight of human death.
- 1:11:13In fact, given how coy the non budget production is obliged to
- 1:11:16be about gore makeup, that's one of the last reasons a horror fan
- 1:11:20would want to bother with it. Not least of which it's is It's
- 1:11:23a Legend as a bad movie. This is the film in which Eric
- 1:11:26Freeman, who telegraphs I'm Crazy Now by lowering his voice
- 1:11:29to a gravelly bellow that would make Christian Bell's Batman
- 1:11:33blush, gleefully shoots a man taking out the trash while
- 1:11:37shouting Garbage Day and thereby creating an Internet meme.
- 1:11:41Camp is, in fact, the only way that any viewer I expect could
- 1:11:45drag even the tiniest shred of pleasure out of a movie that
- 1:11:48offers nothing else. But it does offer all sorts of
- 1:11:51ridiculous opportunities to mock it.
- 1:11:54Friedmans awesomely terrible performance is 1.
- 1:11:56The ungainly, dumbfounding use of stock footage is obviously
- 1:11:59another. The transparently bad filmmaking
- 1:12:02is 1/3. And yeah, I never found it so
- 1:12:05bad. It's good in the least,
- 1:12:06partially because I feel sorry for the crew more than
- 1:12:09contemptuous of them. A fella needs to eat, and this
- 1:12:13was an impossible project. And the lingering memory of
- 1:12:17Silent Night, Deadly Night came sort of close at times.
- 1:12:19To be an actual decent slasher movie made it hard to stomach
- 1:12:24such a vile, useless sequel. And that's honestly just about
- 1:12:27all she wrote. It's hard to be prepared for how
- 1:12:29much of A nothing this movie is, devoid of any reason, no matter
- 1:12:32how tacky, to appreciate it sincerely.
- 1:12:35And the work of appreciating it ironically seems to be too much
- 1:12:38effort for a movie of such monstrous vacuity.
- 1:12:43I don't know if I said that right.
- 1:12:44All these years of reviewing cheap horror have taken me to
- 1:12:47many dark places, but never I think to a movie that fills this
- 1:12:50damn non existent. I mean, he's.
- 1:12:54Not wrong. Yeah, really about.
- 1:12:58Anything he's saying but. I think that's part of the charm
- 1:13:01of it is that it is just mindless shots of it's can't be
- 1:13:07chaos. Yeah.
- 1:13:09Like I mean really I. Mean that is the reason that
- 1:13:11anybody would have any enjoyment that's the reason we love it so
- 1:13:14much like if I watched it for a straight up I'm wanting to be
- 1:13:18scared horror movie. This isn't going to be that pic
- 1:13:22yeah you know I'm here for a good time.
- 1:13:24One man's garbage day is. In fact, another man's treasure.
- 1:13:27Exactly. But you're right.
- 1:13:28He's he's right. About all of that stuff, like
- 1:13:30there's just a lot of nonsense, disjointed shit happening in
- 1:13:33this movie. That's a very good objective
- 1:13:36view. It's.
- 1:13:36Just the subjective takeaways that we get from that are, are
- 1:13:40polar opposites, yeah, but that's.
- 1:13:43Just that's, that's how it goes, man.
- 1:13:45It's this is probably one of the most subjective genres of film.
- 1:13:49I feel like there is out there. Yeah.
- 1:13:51All right, so now that we've got the critic review out of the
- 1:13:55way, let's go over to some listener reviews.
- 1:13:58OK, so we'll go over to Instagram, which is really the
- 1:14:01only place I got reviews. OK, so first.
- 1:14:04Off we have horror. Ryan who says all time holiday
- 1:14:07classic mix of over the top and slasher garbage day is my trash
- 1:14:11alarm tone nice. I love that that's.
- 1:14:14Cool. Also prompts you for putting.
- 1:14:16Out a trash alarm tone I know yeah, we're so bad about that
- 1:14:20our. Alarm tone is just our
- 1:14:21neighbors. Dragging out there her beats,
- 1:14:23Yeah. And dog barking in the
- 1:14:25neighborhood. Yeah, but yeah, I agree.
- 1:14:27It's an all time holiday classic for us too.
- 1:14:29I fucking love this movie. And finally, we have Michael E
- 1:14:34Howard, who says solid night. Deadly Night 2 is one of those
- 1:14:37movies you can't take too seriously.
- 1:14:39This definitely fits into the So Bad It's good category.
- 1:14:41First off, half the movie is the first one.
- 1:14:43Then you have the horrible acting that is both cringy and
- 1:14:46funny. For the sake of the camp, I will
- 1:14:48give it 7 out of 10. Nice.
- 1:14:50Which is perfect. Yes.
- 1:14:51Perfectly in line with us, too, as always, Michael.
- 1:14:54Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:14:56I just, you know, I, I don't care about the objectively bad
- 1:15:02things with this movie. It's just such a fun time.
- 1:15:05I love it so much. Every Christmas, watch it.
- 1:15:08I want more people to watch it. I'm kind of sad this isn't going
- 1:15:10to be in theaters. I know I would love to see this
- 1:15:13in. Theaters.
- 1:15:14Yeah, it would. Be a good time, but.
- 1:15:15It's also a great time at home, just like.
- 1:15:17You know, drinking and having fun.
- 1:15:19Absolutely. It's a fun movie.
- 1:15:20A movie that like drunk watch if you're into that type of thing.
- 1:15:24You know what another fun movie is?
- 1:15:26What? The movie we're talking about
- 1:15:27next week. What movie is that?
- 1:15:29It's a. Wonderful knife.
- 1:15:31This was voted on by our patrons.
- 1:15:33We actually did get to see this in theaters last year, so we're
- 1:15:36excited to watch it again and to talk about it.
- 1:15:39It's a wonderful knife. It's currently available for
- 1:15:43watching on Hulu, AMC, Philo, YouTube, primetime Disney Plus,
- 1:15:49premium Sling TV premium, Prime premium, YouTube TV, premium
- 1:15:53Fandango, or you can rent it from Fandango at home or Google
- 1:15:56Play. Is it still on shutter?
- 1:15:59It's on shutter. OK, Still on shutter, too.
- 1:16:01Yeah. Your main ones are gonna be
- 1:16:02shutter. Hulu and AMC, if you're ever
- 1:16:04subscribed to anything through those, you'll be good to go on
- 1:16:06this. Yes, definitely check.
- 1:16:08Out that movie, I think it is wonderful.
- 1:16:12A wonderful knife. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:16It's a fun movie. I liked it a lot too.
- 1:16:18It's yeah, you know, Justin Long.
- 1:16:20If you got your Justin Long fans out there, get ready.
- 1:16:23Get ready to hate them. Justin Long as a murderous.
- 1:16:26Uncle Baby Billy? Basically, yeah.
- 1:16:29It's amazing, yeah. It's a good time.
- 1:16:32So if you haven't seen it, absolutely watch it.
