- 1:03Anderson, and joining me today is the wonderful Amy Johnson.
- 1:09Amy is a wife, a mom, grandma, and a leader of women, as well as being a powerful teacher of the scriptures who brings incredible honesty and practical wisdom to spiritual warfare.
- 1:22Here's what we're going to be talking about today in today's episode.
- 1:26First, the armor of light and God is the great benefactor.
- 1:30Here we'll peek at Romans 13:12 and Ephesians 6, and Amy's going to give us some insight into why taking on the armor means learning how to receive what God freely gives.
- 1:42Second, Amy will share practical tips on how to boss your brain with the helmet of salvation.
- 1:47Third, we will dive into a modern mother's field guide to the armor how Christian moms can practically put on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of peace, use the shields of faith and the sword
- 2:01of the Spirit.
- 2:03Finally, we'll talk about the armor's engine and Ephesians 6:18 will talk about activating your defense through constant prayer in the spirit.
- 2:12But let's begin with understanding what the armor of light truly is.
- 2:17In Romans 13:12, the apostle Paul writes, the night is far spent, the day is at hand.
- 2:25Let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.
- 2:31When Paul talks about the armor of God In Ephesians 6, 1018, he is describing this very same armor of light.
- 2:40Notice that light does not weigh you down like heavy medieval iron armor.
- 2:46This armor of light is radiant and protective like the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ, wrapping around your soul.
- 2:54And darkness cannot penetrate pure light.
- 2:58Too many of us treat the armor as an impossible to do list, like Did I pray enough?
- 3:03Did I read enough?
- 3:03Did I perform well enough to earn my armor today?
- 3:07But let's listen to Amy Johnson explain why Paul's command to take unto you the armor is actually an invitation to receive from our divine benefactor.
- 3:20In Ephesians chapter 6.
- 3:22Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
- 3:27For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, not against my husband, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
- 3:38Wherefore take unto you.
- 3:40And I'm a wordy, so these phrases mean stuff to me.
- 3:43So take unto you literally, for me means receive, because God gives and gives and gives and gives.
- 3:50He's a very abundant God.
- 3:51He's a benefactor.
- 3:52Right?
- 3:52But we don't always receive.
- 3:54We're kind of bad at it.
- 3:55Kind of like we are with compliments.
- 3:58Oh, am, you look so beautiful today.
- 4:00Oh, thanks.
- 4:00I just feel so.
- 4:02That's not really receiving a compliment.
- 4:04Right?
- 4:04We're kind of like that with God.
- 4:06Oh, I see that.
- 4:07You gave it to me, but let me just put it on a shelf because we're mortal.
- 4:11Okay.
- 4:12So wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day.
- 4:18And having done all to stand.
- 4:21I love that perspective.
- 4:22God is constantly handing us his protection, and our job is to open our hands and receive it.
- 4:30Now, once we receive the armor, where does the enemy usually strike first?
- 4:34Honestly, ladies, it's our minds.
- 4:36In Ephesians 6:17, Paul commands and take the helmet of salvation.
- 4:42Let's listen to Amy share how the helmet of salvation serves as her personal stronghold against mental chatter and vain imaginations.
- 4:52And he talks about the helmet of salvation.
- 4:55That's a really powerful weapon for me because I have to protect my brain and I have to boss my brain.
- 5:02And if you know me superficially, you don't really know that about me because I'm capable.
- 5:09So verse 17, and take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God.
- 5:15So my stronghold is immediately to go to a scripture that I love, a quote that I love that reminds me that Satan uses vain imaginations to destroy my peace.
- 5:29And so I posted that same quote, same scripture that will remind me to go to my happy place.
- 5:38Don't automatically assume that they're out to get me.
- 5:40And by the way, it's really bad with my husband.
- 5:42It's the chink with my husband specifically, or my kids.
- 5:46And so I just know that you have to find your own helmet of salvation, whatever it is, for most people I find it's the things that replay over and over and over in our head.
- 5:58So for me, I change the scenery every time I think he doesn't love me and I'm at all serious, I think vain imaginations destroy your peace.
- 6:10Amy's phrase, boss.
- 6:11Your brain is exactly what the helmet of salvation does when false stories and your mind, you remember your identity.
- 6:20I belong to Jesus Christ.
- 6:22My soul is secure, and I refuse to entertain lies.
- 6:28Now let's walk through how a modern Christian mother can put on every other piece of this armor of light in her everyday life.
- 6:36First, loins girt with the belt of truth.
- 6:39In ancient Roman armor, the leather belt pulled the soldier's loose tunic so he wouldn't trip while running.
- 6:46For a mother, truth cinches your runaway emotions.
- 6:51When feelings of inadequacy, exhaustion, or mom guilt scream that you are failing the belt, God's word and truth can hold your emotions together.
- 7:03And you can remind yourself, I am chosen, I am equipped, and God's grace is sufficient for me.
- 7:12The breastplate of righteousness guards the vital organs, especially our hearts.
- 7:17Ladies, in motherhood, the enemy loves to shoot darts of accusation directly at your heart.
- 7:24You lost your temper.
- 7:25You're a terrible mother.
- 7:27The breastplate of righteousness is not your own flawless performance.
- 7:32It is Christ's righteousness covering you.
- 7:37When we repent, his blood guards our heart against the adversary's toxic shame.
- 7:43Next is feet shod with the shoes of the preparation of the Gospel of peace.
- 7:48In verse 15, Roman soldiers wore hobnailed sandals for traction so that they wouldn't slip in battle.
- 7:56As mothers, we walk into daily chaos almost every day.
- 8:00Spilled drinks, sibling bickering, busy schedules.
- 8:05And these shoes can give you spiritual traction so you don't slip into anger.
- 8:11You step into your kitchen, bringing Christ peace rather than matching the frantic anxiety of the room.
- 8:18I love the shield of faith mentioned Next.
- 8:21In verse 16, Paul says the shield quenches all the fiery darts.
- 8:25As a wicked, as a mom, fiery darts look like catastrophic what if scenarios.
- 8:31What if my child leaves the faith?
- 8:33What if this diagnosis ruins our future?
- 8:36Faith is lifting up God's promises as a defensive wall, declaring, my God is faithful.
- 8:44He holds my children and his promises never fail.
- 8:48If you feel you're not there yet with your faith, pray.
- 8:52Lord, I believe.
- 8:54Help thou mine unbelief.
- 8:56In verse 17, we find the sword of the spirit.
- 8:59This is the word of God, our only offensive weapon.
- 9:03When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, he didn't argue.
- 9:06He said, it is written and quoted scripture.
- 9:09Mothers you too can keep the sword drawn.
- 9:12Speak Scripture aloud in your home.
- 9:15When fear creeps in, speak second Timothy 1:7 aloud.
- 9:19For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love, and of a sound mind.
- 9:26When chaos erupts, speak Philippians 4:6:7.
- 9:30Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.
- 9:39And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
- 9:48The adversary cannot stand against the spoken word of God.
- 9:52Finally, we find the key to fortifying your armor.
- 9:56Praying always.
- 9:58In verse 18, Paul concludes by saying, praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.
- 10:05Prayer is the operational power that welds every piece of armor together on you.
- 10:12It is running a continuous conversational prayer line with God while folding laundry, driving carpool or tucking kids into bed.
- 10:21When you put on the Armor of Light every morning, you stop fighting from a place of defeat and start standing in Christ's victory.
