Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome friends. Final half hour of the program for the day,
- 0:11Speaker 1: thirty five past the hour. It is a show fifty
- 0:14Speaker 1: five oh nine, and I am pleased to add back
- 0:16Speaker 1: with US former Florida governor and now US Senator Rick Scott.
- 0:22Speaker 1: How are you, Senator?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Oh, I'm good to Chiley up in DC. We're trying
- 0:30Speaker 2: to figure out how are we actually going to reduce
- 0:33Speaker 2: the cost of healthcare by fixing Obamacare? And are we
- 0:35Speaker 2: going to stop wasteful earmarks? That's what's on the agenda
- 0:41Speaker 2: this next two weeks.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Let's start with the Unaffordable Care Act because Obamacare has
- 0:48Speaker 1: been a train wreck. You and I both know it
- 0:51Speaker 1: was really designed to be that. It was never designed
- 0:54Speaker 1: to do anything but a certain control and try to
- 0:56Speaker 1: push us into a single payer system. So how do
- 0:58Speaker 1: you fix something that is so abjectly broken.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Well, you start to stop and say, okay, what do
- 1:06Speaker 2: we Let's focus on what we care. I grew up
- 1:09Speaker 2: in a family that you know, my parents didn't have
- 1:11Speaker 2: money for health care. So when my brother had a
- 1:13Speaker 2: significant disease, nobody would take care of him in our town.
- 1:17Speaker 2: So my mom finally found a charity hospital about four
- 1:19Speaker 2: hours away. That's super take him to So we got
- 1:23Speaker 2: to give people health care. Now, that's step one. How
- 1:27Speaker 2: do we get people health care? Now? Step two is
- 1:29Speaker 2: let's don't make people dependent on government, right, And step
- 1:33Speaker 2: three is how do we get this at a price
- 1:35Speaker 2: that you can afford? So how do you do that?
- 1:37Speaker 2: If you have a safety net, you say, okay, if
- 1:40Speaker 2: we're gonna help you, we're gonna give you cash, just
- 1:42Speaker 2: like we do food stamps, right, and then you're going
- 1:45Speaker 2: to buy health care because we know you'll spend the
- 1:47Speaker 2: dollars better than if we give it to an insurance
- 1:50Speaker 2: company or somebody else. And we're not gonna we're not
- 1:53Speaker 2: gonna have you know, insurance company right the rules or
- 1:56Speaker 2: government right the rules. You probably know what's best for
- 1:58Speaker 2: your family. So I've got to build that basically does
- 2:01Speaker 2: that but the money if we're going to if we're
- 2:04Speaker 2: going to subsize you because you know your income you
- 2:06Speaker 2: can't afford it, then we're going to give you cash.
- 2:10Speaker 2: You're going to go buy what you want to buy.
- 2:13Speaker 2: You can buy directed in health care, that's called healthcare.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Not getting healthcare insurance with the ten thousand dollars deductible
- 2:21Speaker 2: is probably not healthcare because you might not be able
- 2:23Speaker 2: to afford that ten thousand dollars. So you're going to
- 2:26Speaker 2: be able to buy healthcare directly, you're gonna be able
- 2:28Speaker 2: to buy a plan. You're going to be able to
- 2:30Speaker 2: pay co payments, deductibles, and then. But we're not going
- 2:33Speaker 2: to make people depend If you're making five hundred thousand
- 2:36Speaker 2: dollars a year, we're not going to subsize your health care.
- 2:38Speaker 2: It's not right. We're not going to ask somebody making
- 2:40Speaker 2: twenty bucks an hour is paying their taxes to pay
- 2:42Speaker 2: for somebody's rich, rich person's health care plan. So that's
- 2:47Speaker 2: what we should be doing, and we didn't need. The
- 2:50Speaker 2: industry needs to start telling us prices. When I when
- 2:53Speaker 2: I was in when I, I did a lot of
- 2:56Speaker 2: stuff in healthcare, built the largest hospital company and then
- 2:58Speaker 2: build the urgent care company, urge care company. All the
- 3:01Speaker 2: prices are up on the wall. Walk in and you
- 3:03Speaker 2: know what things are costing. You should know what costs
- 3:05Speaker 2: to go to a hospital. You should know what'll get
- 3:06Speaker 2: cost to go to a doctor. There are all the prices
- 3:08Speaker 2: are to be up there. You are to know I
- 3:10Speaker 2: want that, I don't want that. That's too expensive.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Should everybody have some skin in the game, even if
- 3:17Speaker 1: it's five dollars. Should everybody, even if they're getting some help,
- 3:23Speaker 1: still have some skin in it.
- 3:26Speaker 2: They have to. Here's because here's when they don't. Here's
- 3:29Speaker 2: what happens what Biden did during his year when he
- 3:32Speaker 2: did these extended subsidies. No, they'll have to put up
- 3:36Speaker 2: any money. So we probably have somewhere between four and
- 3:39Speaker 2: six million people in this country right now. They're paying nothing.
- 3:44Speaker 2: They might not even know they have the insurance because
- 3:47Speaker 2: guess what, you know, rogue agents and the rogue insurance
- 3:50Speaker 2: companies could sign you up. If they just knew your
- 3:53Speaker 2: your name, your birthday, and your ZIP and where you lived,
- 3:57Speaker 2: they could sign you up. Then there's millions people and
- 3:59Speaker 2: the money goes correctly to an insurance company. Know, you
- 4:02Speaker 2: don't even know you have coverage. So if people don't
- 4:05Speaker 2: have skin in the game, it's called fraud. Right, everybody
- 4:10Speaker 2: has to be you know, it has to pay something
- 4:14Speaker 2: Like I want people to get health care. I don't
- 4:17Speaker 2: want fraud. I mean we have an impressed We've got
- 4:21Speaker 2: two trillion dollar year deficits going on right now. How
- 4:25Speaker 2: can we be subsidizing people making five hundred thousand dollars
- 4:28Speaker 2: a year. It could be millionaires. How can we subsidize
- 4:31Speaker 2: their healthcare? It sounds nice. I don't get how we
- 4:35Speaker 2: think we can do that, Like, who's money? Yeah, it
- 4:38Speaker 2: was going to borrow more money to do that. This
- 4:40Speaker 2: stuff's crazy.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Yeah, that's part of the problem, Centator, As you well know,
- 4:44Speaker 1: people just think that the government just has this money. Well,
- 4:47Speaker 1: it's our money, it's all of our tax money. It's
- 4:50Speaker 1: that's the only place that they get the money. In
- 4:52Speaker 1: the House, you've already got a group of alleged Republicans
- 4:57Speaker 1: that are waving a white flag after the whole standing
- 5:01Speaker 1: together on during the government shutdown on this Obamacare subsidies stuff,
- 5:06Speaker 1: expanding the subsidies again, they're waving the white flag. And
- 5:11Speaker 1: then you've got colleagues like Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin in
- 5:15Speaker 1: essence doing the same. How do you get any kind
- 5:19Speaker 1: of I guess, momentum for doing the fixes you're talking
- 5:22Speaker 1: about when even people in your own party and then
- 5:25Speaker 1: colleagues in the Senate are just fighting.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Well, first off, every American's got to say what they want.
- 5:34Speaker 2: You know, we're elected, we represent people. So the people
- 5:37Speaker 2: that care about this stuff, they call your house members
- 5:40Speaker 2: and call your senators and say if you think that
- 5:43Speaker 2: everything's free, then you call them and say, hey, look
- 5:46Speaker 2: everything's free. I don't care if interest rates at Clayton,
- 5:49Speaker 2: flation goes up, the cost of living goes up. I
- 5:51Speaker 2: just want my free stuff. You should do that, that's
- 5:53Speaker 2: what you believe. But if you're rational, you should say,
- 5:58Speaker 2: I am not is not fair that somebody making two
- 6:02Speaker 2: hundred and fifty or five hundred thousand dollars a year
- 6:05Speaker 2: gets subsidies from the federal gunment for healthcare. That doesn't
- 6:09Speaker 2: make sense. We have to borrow. This is all borrowed money.
- 6:14Speaker 2: So as is. Think about this. We already have thirty
- 6:16Speaker 2: eight train dollars death. We already have a training dollars
- 6:19Speaker 2: of interesting in a year. Grocery prices aren't coming down,
- 6:22Speaker 2: gas prices, home prices, None of the stuff comes down
- 6:26Speaker 2: if we keep running deficits, because that's what causes inflation. Right,
- 6:32Speaker 2: So it's I mean, maybe there's some I mean, I
- 6:36Speaker 2: don't know any other way to do it. You got
- 6:38Speaker 2: to just be vocal say I am I didn't elect you, right,
- 6:42Speaker 2: I didn't elect you to bankrupt this country. I didn't
- 6:45Speaker 2: elect you to take care of a whole bunch of
- 6:47Speaker 2: rich people. I elected you to make my life better.
- 6:50Speaker 2: I want less inflation, Okay, I want safety nets. You
- 6:55Speaker 2: don't need a safety net for somebody making a half
- 6:56Speaker 2: million dollars a year.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Why won't be RNs see cobble together some resources which
- 7:02Speaker 1: they have in abundance of, along with some of the
- 7:05Speaker 1: think tanks that are conservative and reliable, and start messaging
- 7:10Speaker 1: the American people. Not winning elections, not trying to win
- 7:13Speaker 1: an election, but to explain to people why Obamacare is
- 7:16Speaker 1: killing us and why some of these common sense solutions
- 7:20Speaker 1: you're offering, Senator will work. Why aren't we seeing that
- 7:24Speaker 1: kind of messaging just by the time on TV?
- 7:28Speaker 2: You know, I you know, but you know all all
- 7:31Speaker 2: the other the rn C, I mean, they're focused on
- 7:35Speaker 2: winning elections and that's that's how that's just the mentality
- 7:38Speaker 2: they have.
- 7:38Speaker 1: But if they don't win the argument, they can't win
- 7:40Speaker 1: the election.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Oh, I know, I agree that, you know, it's not
- 7:44Speaker 2: a bad idea. I cain't talked to Joe Gruder's but
- 7:47Speaker 2: the but you know, this stuff is not that hard.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I know. I mean my parents, I mean my parents,
- 7:54Speaker 2: my mom had a leventh grade education. My dad had
- 7:56Speaker 2: sixue education. They I remember when remember under George W. Bush,
- 8:01Speaker 2: they gave they gave like the fife hundred and fifty
- 8:04Speaker 2: dollars bonus checks to everybody. My mom laughed and she said,
- 8:08Speaker 2: that is the stupidest thing. We're gonna We're gonna turn
- 8:11Speaker 2: around the economy by by just giving each of us
- 8:13Speaker 2: one hundred and fifty bucks. Now, they gave it to
- 8:15Speaker 2: my brother, who unfortunately has passed away. And they didn't
- 8:18Speaker 2: give any to me because I was making too much money.
- 8:20Speaker 2: But they gave it to my brother who spent the
- 8:21Speaker 2: money on drugs. So, but because he wasn't making much money.
- 8:25Speaker 2: So and then remember when they did the crazy thing, Oh,
- 8:28Speaker 2: we're going to give you money if we'll if you'll
- 8:30Speaker 2: throw away your car something like this stuff we can't.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Gunman has got to get out of our lives, not
- 8:37Speaker 2: do more stuff in our lives. We let's have us
- 8:40Speaker 2: safety in that. I mean, I will, but the stuff
- 8:43Speaker 2: that what we're doing is causing everybody's cost health care
- 8:46Speaker 2: to go up. I mean, it's just like it's just
- 8:49Speaker 2: like Medicaid, the gut Federalgram pays more for able bodied
- 8:53Speaker 2: single adults under the medicaid program for somebody that's disabled.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Why what incentive does that create. I mean, you look
- 9:04Speaker 2: at this stuff and think, nobody in their right mind
- 9:07Speaker 2: will create a system like this. But you're right, there's
- 9:10Speaker 2: a lot of Democrats. All they want is they want
- 9:12Speaker 2: government to control every part of your life exactly, want
- 9:16Speaker 2: to make all your decisions.
- 9:18Speaker 1: And they have the not poking at the president, they
- 9:21Speaker 1: have the trump card. And the trump card that government
- 9:23Speaker 1: has is taxes. You know, if if the rest of
- 9:27Speaker 1: us can't borrow any more money because the bank says, sorry,
- 9:31Speaker 1: you're leveraged too far, you need to reduce your debt
- 9:34Speaker 1: to obtain more credit, the government says, screw that, will
- 9:37Speaker 1: print more money or we'll just tax people more.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Right, Well, it's going to end. This is not going
- 9:46Speaker 2: to I mean, it's already happening. I mean, inflation is
- 9:50Speaker 2: not under control until we balance the budget, agreed. But
- 9:53Speaker 2: I know the president's busting is about to try to
- 9:55Speaker 2: get the costs down. I know he is, and man,
- 9:57Speaker 2: talk to him about it. He's doing it. Congress controls
- 10:01Speaker 2: the purse, not the president, and so so what so
- 10:06Speaker 2: what what Congress has to do is live within our means.
- 10:11Speaker 2: The President's all. I mean, I talked to Hi about it.
- 10:13Speaker 2: He would like to balance about it. It's very difficult
- 10:15Speaker 2: when you have an administration, I mean Congress that doesn't care.
- 10:19Speaker 2: They don't I mean, I mean, i'm I'm like, I'm
- 10:22Speaker 2: finding remarks. We are we are doing. We're giving in
- 10:25Speaker 2: this proporations package one hundred I think one hundred and
- 10:28Speaker 2: nine million dollars to Josh John ossof of just stuff
- 10:33Speaker 2: in this state. Why that has no nexus to federal
- 10:37Speaker 2: problems none? Why are we doing that? Why? Why is
- 10:41Speaker 2: that our job? Our job is to be responsible. They're
- 10:45Speaker 2: federal things we got to do, take care of the
- 10:47Speaker 2: ohtaways and things like that. But local projects don't make sense.
- 10:53Speaker 2: I mean, why are we doing that? We have Look,
- 10:55Speaker 2: I hear that all the money in the world, you
- 10:56Speaker 2: should do it, right, I mean, all the billionaires and
- 10:58Speaker 2: gazillionaires out there, give your money away. You You got
- 11:01Speaker 2: to see you can't take it with you anyway. Our
- 11:03Speaker 2: government doesn't have billions of dollars
