- 2:13Speaker 1: Coach Vernon Dozer says it for you and says it good.
- 2:18Speaker 1: That's not the name of it. Oh, I got the
- 2:21Speaker 1: wrong copy, then right, it's Coach Vernon Dozer gets it
- 2:24Speaker 1: said welcome, Thank you very much. Jason Moron, who was
- 2:29Speaker 1: the head coach at Belmar Academy for the last four years.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I took a sabbatical. I took some time off. It
- 2:35Speaker 1: was like a mental health break, and a lot of
- 2:38Speaker 1: the players wanted to know why coach wasn't around. I
- 2:42Speaker 1: mean after about the third season. You know, they knew
- 2:44Speaker 1: I was the head coach, but they would always ask, well,
- 2:46Speaker 1: I mean, and I wanted to tell them because I
- 2:51Speaker 1: was about ready to lose it, you know, That's what
- 2:53Speaker 1: they they I think they indicated that did the players
- 2:56Speaker 1: know that I was about ready to just a lot
- 2:58Speaker 1: of them did. Yeah, they would say, is coach Dojer okay,
- 3:02Speaker 1: and I'd say he's great, and they'd say, well, we're
- 3:04Speaker 1: worried about him because we know that he was having
- 3:08Speaker 1: a hard time there at the end holding it together. Well.
- 3:10Speaker 1: The thing that everybody knows about it's it's pretty famous.
- 3:13Speaker 1: A famous incident where I think we were playing Love
- 3:17Speaker 1: Village or bug Out. I think was bug Eye. Yeah,
- 3:19Speaker 1: we were playing bug Eye Tech and we were playing
- 3:22Speaker 1: the bug and I I don't know exactly what happened.
- 3:28Speaker 1: I think we were winning the game at the half
- 3:33Speaker 1: and it got close, and we had little Little Joey. Oh,
- 3:39Speaker 1: little Joey Pepper. Little Joey Pepper was quarterback. He was
- 3:42Speaker 1: a little guy, but boy, what an army had on him.
- 3:44Speaker 1: He was. He had the strongest arm of any kid.
- 3:47Speaker 1: He couldn't have been more than five foot three, five
- 3:49Speaker 1: foot four. Yeah, he had a very strong arm. Little
- 3:51Speaker 1: joe Pepper, little Joey Pepper deck. Yeah, that's it right. Well,
- 3:55Speaker 1: do you know his name or not? I knew him
- 3:57Speaker 1: as Little Joey Pepper. I called him Little Joey Pepper,
- 4:00Speaker 1: but it was Peppa do. I thought, Peppa do, okay,
- 4:02Speaker 1: Pepa Little Joey Peppado. Yeah, Uh, where did I get
- 4:07Speaker 1: Peppa Dak. Pepa Dak was one of the he was
- 4:09Speaker 1: the fitness coach. Oh, that's right, that was You're right, Georgio.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Peppa Dak was a he was a Greek fitness coach. There, boy,
- 4:17Speaker 1: it's been a long time. So anyway, Peppa do with
- 4:20Speaker 1: the quarterback. Peppa du was the quarterback. And uh, we
- 4:25Speaker 1: won the game. And I went out to the middle
- 4:28Speaker 1: of the field and I took my pants off. Yeah,
- 4:32Speaker 1: and I started. I started a strip, basically, And that's
- 4:34Speaker 1: what a lot of parents knew I was going to
- 4:36Speaker 1: do that. Now. The reason the reason why you did
- 4:38Speaker 1: that is because it wasn't so much that we were
- 4:40Speaker 1: losing the game. We won the game. But you, I
- 4:44Speaker 1: think it was you were saying something to the parents.
- 4:46Speaker 1: I was saying some something to some specific parents who've
- 4:50Speaker 1: been giving me a hard time all year long. Hey, doser,
- 4:53Speaker 1: why don't you hang it up? You don't have it anymore.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Why don't you get back to your job, Go go
- 4:58Speaker 1: get me make me a tune of oh the job
- 5:01Speaker 1: at subway. Yeah, they say, go on here, you get
- 5:03Speaker 1: off and make me a one foot tuna. And I said,
- 5:06Speaker 1: I got a one foot for you. I got one
- 5:09Speaker 1: foot and I got a tuna. Which one do you want?
- 5:11Speaker 1: And they'd go, oh, you know, they they knew I
- 5:14Speaker 1: wasn't messing around. Well you and you know that I
- 5:18Speaker 1: love and respect you, coach, all right, go ahead lay
- 5:20Speaker 1: it on me. But I didn't think you handled that
- 5:22Speaker 1: season very well. And that's way it was good that
- 5:24Speaker 1: you took the time off when I took my clothes
- 5:26Speaker 1: off in the middle of the field there right after
- 5:28Speaker 1: the bug Eye after the bug Eyed game, and the
- 5:33Speaker 1: parents came out, some of them were friends of mine,
- 5:36Speaker 1: and they tried to cover me with a blanket, and
- 5:38Speaker 1: you threw the blanket off, and you kept on walking
- 5:40Speaker 1: over to the official white I walked over the official.
- 5:42Speaker 1: The reason why I was walking over the official is
- 5:44Speaker 1: because he called a pass out of bounds that would
- 5:47Speaker 1: have put Pepiduo over the five hundred yard mark for
- 5:51Speaker 1: that game. And he called that pass out of bounds,
- 5:55Speaker 1: and I said, are you blind? Are you blind? But
- 5:59Speaker 1: you did a lot of things that what got you
- 6:01Speaker 1: fired was what you did there. I know, I said,
- 6:06Speaker 1: for a lot those of you listening, I hope none
- 6:08Speaker 1: of the kids are listening. But I did was I
- 6:10Speaker 1: reached down and I grabbed my genitals and I said,
- 6:12Speaker 1: are you blind? And I was pointing at them, and
- 6:15Speaker 1: what I meant to say was, you know, if you
- 6:18Speaker 1: can see my penis, excuse my language, then you must
- 6:21Speaker 1: have seen that passed by Pepadoo that was inbounds at
- 6:24Speaker 1: the five yard line. That would have busted the five
- 6:26Speaker 1: hundred yard mark for him right well as it was,
- 6:29Speaker 1: he had four hundred and sixty three yards in that game.
- 6:32Speaker 1: It was a great game, Yeah, and we wound up
- 6:35Speaker 1: eating bug Eye and coming out with a season that
- 6:38Speaker 1: could have been a lot worse. I mean, I think
- 6:40Speaker 1: we won four games. We won four. I mean we
- 6:42Speaker 1: were on a downslide, there's no question about it. But
- 6:45Speaker 1: that game was so big because there were so many
- 6:46Speaker 1: parents riding me, so many of them things it was
- 6:49Speaker 1: time for me to hang it up. So many of
- 6:50Speaker 1: them are wondering why I wasn't playing their sweet little boy.
- 6:54Speaker 1: And this is one of the reasons why I got
- 6:55Speaker 1: out of it more than anything else, Jason, is because
- 7:00Speaker 1: the parents would come to you and they thought their
- 7:02Speaker 1: kids were far more talented. Well, and I got some
- 7:04Speaker 1: of the same stuff you did. Oh yeah, I got
- 7:06Speaker 1: people were they would come to me and they'd say,
- 7:09Speaker 1: why aren't you playing so and so, And I'd say, well,
- 7:12Speaker 1: you know, we have other kids, said they do a
- 7:14Speaker 1: better job, and they say, well, he's my son, and
- 7:17Speaker 1: I go and I would say, I can see the resemblance.
- 7:20Speaker 1: And in some instances that was a big compliment, and
- 7:22Speaker 1: some of the women were flattered, and other instances that
- 7:24Speaker 1: the kid was particularly ugly. They didn't like it. They
- 7:26Speaker 1: didn't like it at all, the mothers, especially the wives.
- 7:29Speaker 1: You know, so, did you cannot ask you about a
- 7:33Speaker 1: personal question? Go ahead? Did you get involved with some
- 7:35Speaker 1: of the the moms I had? I had a thing
- 7:40Speaker 1: with one of the mothers. She I won't give you
- 7:42Speaker 1: her name. She had a son on the team, and
- 7:46Speaker 1: it started innocently enough. We were just talking and sharing.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I went and I got her an onge onge orange. Yeah,
- 7:53Speaker 1: an orange drink, and we were sitting on the picnic
- 7:58Speaker 1: tables out there near the park a lot and we
- 8:01Speaker 1: were sharing an orange drink. And you know, one thing
- 8:04Speaker 1: led to another, and you got involved with her. I
- 8:08Speaker 1: got involved with her. Yeah. Over the course of the
- 8:09Speaker 1: next two seasons. Was she married. She was married, but
- 8:13Speaker 1: he was on the road a lot, and fortunately their
- 8:17Speaker 1: marriage didn't last neither did I. Well, were you the
- 8:20Speaker 1: cause of the breakup? It's hard to I don't know.
- 8:23Speaker 1: You know. I would get calls in the middle of
- 8:25Speaker 1: the night and then hang ups and I thought I
- 8:28Speaker 1: heard a man in the background. I don't know, but
- 8:31Speaker 1: it was this. Was this bothering you? Or did it
- 8:33Speaker 1: mess with your with the coaching? No? No, I didn't
- 8:36Speaker 1: bug me at all. I mean, I no, it didn't.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I just what are you gonna do? But but I mean,
- 8:43Speaker 1: did the guy come after you? No? No he didn't.
- 8:46Speaker 1: But they they eventually moved. I don't know if she
- 8:49Speaker 1: moved with the son or the whole family moved. They
- 8:51Speaker 1: got back together again. I don't know. But the reason
- 8:55Speaker 1: why I remember that is when you had your gen
- 8:59Speaker 1: you were pointing at your gin was talking to the referee,
- 9:02Speaker 1: and I jokingly did that with her. We were having
- 9:06Speaker 1: orange drink on the pictic tables and I said, do
- 9:09Speaker 1: you remember this one? And I pulled you didn't? I
- 9:12Speaker 1: did in a moment I wasn't thinking. I pulled it
- 9:14Speaker 1: out and I said, hey, are you blind? And I
- 9:17Speaker 1: pointed at it and she started laughing and she goes, no,
- 9:20Speaker 1: I'm not blind, not with that thing you're holding. She said, no,
- 9:24Speaker 1: I'm not blind, not with that monstrosity that you've got
- 9:28Speaker 1: your left hand wrapped around. And I said, you're for me.
- 9:31Speaker 1: And you know she was your girl. I knew right away. Yeah,
- 9:34Speaker 1: and she was married, she was yeah, and her son
- 9:37Speaker 1: was one of our better players. And I want to say
- 9:38Speaker 1: who it was, but that was kind of a high point.
- 9:43Speaker 1: What is your background, by the way, your football coach? No,
- 9:46Speaker 1: I was. They needed somebody because you had had you know,
- 9:51Speaker 1: it was a kind of an emergency coach that year,
- 9:52Speaker 1: you know, and when you left, they had no one
- 9:57Speaker 1: and they were going to interview and I said, well,
- 10:00Speaker 1: what do you need and they said, we want somebody,
- 10:02Speaker 1: some athletic background, someone who's been around baseball, football, basketball.
- 10:07Speaker 1: I said, I have been around balls, and they that's
- 10:13Speaker 1: when they said, get the hell out of here. They
- 10:15Speaker 1: thought I was talking again because they knew the story
- 10:17Speaker 1: about me pointing it out, pointing my do you pointing
- 10:20Speaker 1: at your general's with this lady. Yeah, And when you
- 10:23Speaker 1: said balls, they thought you meant yeah, And I said, no,
- 10:26Speaker 1: I'm a juggler. What were you doing at the school before?
- 10:30Speaker 1: I was working in auto shop? Oh, okay, but I
- 10:34Speaker 1: juggled a lot, not for the internet, just I did
- 10:37Speaker 1: it out of nervous energy. I would juggle. So a
- 10:40Speaker 1: couple of them came around. Father mcquarters is one of them,
- 10:42Speaker 1: and I saw him leaning against the one of the
- 10:45Speaker 1: work tables one afternoon while I was dealing. We were
- 10:48Speaker 1: dealing with a couple of things with the kids. We
- 10:52Speaker 1: had a beautiful fifty six Chevrolet two tone Chevrolet that
- 10:56Speaker 1: we were putting a These were uh reworked parts, you
- 11:01Speaker 1: know they were they were they were fresh from the factory,
- 11:04Speaker 1: but new parts for a fifty six Chevy. So it
- 11:06Speaker 1: was exciting for the kids. Okay, but I was juggling.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I was getting nervous because I was watching the kids
- 11:11Speaker 1: put these in. They were putting in a manifold cover.
- 11:13Speaker 1: They were putting in the the uh distributor, all kinds
- 11:19Speaker 1: of stuff. Yeah, and I'm juggling away and mcquarters I
- 11:22Speaker 1: see leaning against the table. Mcquarters leaning over talking to people.
- 11:25Speaker 1: He's leaning against the table with one elbow, and I
- 11:28Speaker 1: got kind of nervous. I went over and I said,
- 11:30Speaker 1: do you want something? And he's like, you know he
- 11:33Speaker 1: is with that Irish accent. His he goes yeah, I do.
- 11:36Speaker 1: I said, well, what is it? Because you're sitting there
- 11:38Speaker 1: staring at me. And so that's when I said, actually,
- 11:41Speaker 1: remember this one. This is from uh coach Doja and
- 11:45Speaker 1: he says, don't pull it out of your pants. Don't
- 11:48Speaker 1: do don't pull it out of your pants, those that phrase,
- 11:50Speaker 1: Oh no, wait a minute, because so fatheromer quarters, yeah,
- 11:56Speaker 1: was waiting for you. He knew you were going to
- 11:57Speaker 1: pull it out of your pants and do what. I
- 12:00Speaker 1: was just gonna, you know, say hey, take a look,
- 12:02Speaker 1: you know. In other words, I was going to, uh
- 12:05Speaker 1: try to get him the hell out of there because
- 12:07Speaker 1: he was making me nervous, and I was saying, hey,
- 12:09Speaker 1: have you seen this? I was going to do something
- 12:10Speaker 1: like that, okay, but he wanted to see me juggle.
- 12:15Speaker 1: So I juggled some more and that's when he came over.
- 12:19Speaker 1: He said, have you ever thought about coaching football? What?
- 12:23Speaker 1: I don't know. I just I mean, I spent my
- 12:26Speaker 1: whole life in football as a player, as a coach
- 12:29Speaker 1: at all the different levels, and I never had I
- 12:33Speaker 1: never knew of a guy being able to get a
- 12:34Speaker 1: job as a football coach because he juggled. What were
- 12:37Speaker 1: you juggling? What was I doing. What were you juggling? Oh?
- 12:40Speaker 1: I was juggling just like tennis balls, okay, baseball, softball.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Sometimes I would juggle shot glasses. Sometimes I would juggle Oh,
- 12:49Speaker 1: I don't know, cans of motor oil, things like that. Okay,
- 12:53Speaker 1: And he hired you as a head coach. He said,
- 12:57Speaker 1: you can you handling those balls real good? And I
- 13:00Speaker 1: did it again. I go, yeah, we want to see this,
- 13:02Speaker 1: and I unzipped. What is it with you all of
- 13:04Speaker 1: a sudden, Well, you did it too. I understand that,
- 13:07Speaker 1: but I'm fascinated by the fact that this seems to
- 13:11Speaker 1: be a regular thing with you. No, not really. I
- 13:14Speaker 1: just if someone's going to ask me a dumb question,
- 13:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna give m a umb answer, let's put it
- 13:17Speaker 1: that way. Okay. So he said, you know how to
- 13:21Speaker 1: handle balls, and that's when you unzipped. Yeah, yeah, even
- 13:25Speaker 1: though I know what he was talking about. Okay, did
- 13:26Speaker 1: you guys ever get in the same page? Oh? We
- 13:28Speaker 1: did yet that year. I mean, the first couple of
- 13:30Speaker 1: games were rough. The whole season was rough. I don't
- 13:32Speaker 1: think we want a game that year. But I learned
- 13:35Speaker 1: it off a lot about Father mcorter's I learned it
- 13:37Speaker 1: off a lot about football and the players, and off
- 13:42Speaker 1: to twenty twenty two. We win. When did you win
- 13:44Speaker 1: your first game? The first game we won. It was
- 13:48Speaker 1: a home game, as I remember in the twenty twenty
- 13:50Speaker 1: two season, over over Monkey Man or Monkey Prep, Monkey
- 13:55Speaker 1: Man and Monkey Prop, those two different schools. Yeah, over
- 13:58Speaker 1: Monkey Prep, and we beat him. It was a tough game.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Defensive struggle thirty one to thirty. A defensive struggle that
- 14:05Speaker 1: sounds like an offensive struggle. Well it much of the
- 14:09Speaker 1: scoring was done by the defense. Two fumble recoveries that
- 14:13Speaker 1: we got two scores on fumble recoveries, got another score
- 14:15Speaker 1: on an interception, and then we got a third score
- 14:19Speaker 1: of the fourth score we got on a fumble recovery
- 14:23Speaker 1: in the end zone. Then in came Biff Sneed for
- 14:25Speaker 1: the field goal. Biff Sneed bought it was a very
- 14:28Speaker 1: talented kicker. Yeah, he was very much so. Yeah, well
- 14:32Speaker 1: everybody misses him, I guess. Yeah. The guys refer to
- 14:36Speaker 1: him every now and again. For those of you at home,
- 14:39Speaker 1: Biff Sneed was a kicker. He's our senior and he
- 14:42Speaker 1: went and that summer after his senior year, he went
- 14:47Speaker 1: to the Alps with his parents in Europe to ski
- 14:49Speaker 1: the Alps and to you know, enjoy themselves. Yeah, you
- 14:54Speaker 1: can ski the Apps twenty four twelve months out of
- 14:56Speaker 1: the year, Yes you can. Yes, she can. There's always
- 14:58Speaker 1: snow up there. And he went missing, and that was that.
- 15:03Speaker 1: They never did. They looked for him for a long time.
- 15:06Speaker 1: They never found him. They never found him. And there
- 15:08Speaker 1: was a theory that he'd gone through some kind of
- 15:10Speaker 1: a time warp or something. Well, I don't know. Well
- 15:14Speaker 1: that's what I heard. Yeah, there's a lot of cookie. No,
- 15:17Speaker 1: he just went missing. The authorities think that he probably
- 15:21Speaker 1: did it, you know, he purposely wanted to get lost,
- 15:24Speaker 1: and he may be over there right now, you know,
- 15:25Speaker 1: having a big laugh. Yeah, he's a good kicker and
- 15:31Speaker 1: a good kid. So all right, Well into the twenty
- 15:33Speaker 1: twenty two seasons, you won one game in the In total,
- 15:37Speaker 1: in the four years that I coached at Belmore Academy coach,
- 15:41Speaker 1: I won three games, three games out of four years.
- 15:44Speaker 1: So one year you went yeah, one year we went winless.
- 15:49Speaker 1: And finally I was fired this past spring by Father Bergerman. Oh,
- 15:57Speaker 1: Father Bergerman had taken over Father mcquarters. Yeah. Father mccorters
- 16:01Speaker 1: was in Europe at a retreat, and father Bergerman came
- 16:05Speaker 1: in and said, thank you very much and handed me
- 16:08Speaker 1: a check for I don't know but what it was
- 16:10Speaker 1: a severance. It really wasn't that. It was a check
- 16:13Speaker 1: for fifty bucks. I said what's this for? And he said,
- 16:16Speaker 1: don't you remember? And I did not. He said okay,
- 16:20Speaker 1: and he shugged his shoulders and he went off. He
- 16:24Speaker 1: did what. He came in with a check for fifty bucks,
- 16:27Speaker 1: and he said, there, thank you very much. You fired.
- 16:30Speaker 1: I said what is the check for? And he said,
- 16:31Speaker 1: don't you remember? Don't you remember? Yeah? Well, did you
- 16:36Speaker 1: let me ask you you had severance? I did, yes,
- 16:38Speaker 1: I got severn. I got basically a your salary severance. Yeah.
- 16:43Speaker 1: And then they gave you this fifty dollars check. Yeah.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Then this father Bergerman comes in gives me the fifty
- 16:49Speaker 1: dollars check and says, thanks a lot for your contribution,
- 16:54Speaker 1: something like that, and I go, what's this for? And
- 16:56Speaker 1: he goes, don't you remember? And he didn't give you
- 16:59Speaker 1: any clues to what that would be. He didn't give
- 17:01Speaker 1: me any clues to what it could be. But as
- 17:04Speaker 1: he was walking away, he lifted up the he lifted
- 17:08Speaker 1: up his cassock. Yeah. Casting By the way, is that
- 17:10Speaker 1: gown a pre square? He lifted up his cass He
- 17:12Speaker 1: did what he bent over and went, I don't believe
- 17:16Speaker 1: a word you're saying. Okay, I tried, yes, in other words,
- 17:19Speaker 1: that was all bullshit. Yes, it was. Well, how much
- 17:22Speaker 1: money did he come with a check? He did come
- 17:24Speaker 1: with a check. Yet, how much was it? Fifty dollars?
- 17:27Speaker 1: And what did he say? It was four? He said,
- 17:29Speaker 1: don't you remember? But it had nothing to do with sex.
- 17:32Speaker 1: He said it had to I said, no, I don't.
- 17:34Speaker 1: He said, you mowed my lawn and I said, oh,
- 17:37Speaker 1: you're right. I had done some yard work for him
- 17:39Speaker 1: over at the directory for the priests. Yes, don't you
- 17:43Speaker 1: remember you? I almost I almost wish it would have
- 17:47Speaker 1: been something more interesting, you know. Yeah, No, I understand.

- 19:19Speaker 1: to the coach Ernandosier Hour and I got Jason Moron,
- 19:22Speaker 1: the head coach at Bellmar Academy from twenty twenty one
- 19:25Speaker 1: through twenty twenty four. And we're kind of reminiscing here
- 19:28Speaker 1: and talking about football and Jason coach Moron, you are
- 19:33Speaker 1: a juggler and that's how you got the job, that's right. Yeah,
- 19:37Speaker 1: And you said there was a lot of double entaundry
- 19:41Speaker 1: going on there at the school, right, Well, there was
- 19:43Speaker 1: a lot of you know, I said, well, they said,
- 19:46Speaker 1: do you know anything about football? Balls? Anything? But I said,
- 19:49Speaker 1: do you know anything about balls? They said, And that's
- 19:51Speaker 1: when this guy, father Bergermann, you know, pointed at as
- 19:56Speaker 1: as you know, what do you know anything about this?
- 20:00Speaker 1: Like it sounded like a come on to me, what
- 20:02Speaker 1: do you mean? Well, it sounded like he wanted me
- 20:03Speaker 1: to oh, you're kidding me. No. I said, I know
- 20:07Speaker 1: all I need to know about mine. I didn't even
- 20:10Speaker 1: know anything about yours. And he got all indignant, but
- 20:13Speaker 1: basically he was saying, do you know anything about you know, football?
- 20:16Speaker 1: I said, I know balls, And that's when I started juggling.
- 20:18Speaker 1: And you had done that for father mccorter's Well, Yeah.
- 20:21Speaker 1: I was in the teacher's lounge and Father mcorter's to
- 20:24Speaker 1: come in, and I was talking to Father Bergerman and
- 20:28Speaker 1: a few others, and I was juggling away because they
- 20:31Speaker 1: wanted to hire me. And when I started juggling, that's
- 20:34Speaker 1: when Father mccortters came over and said, you're hired right
- 20:37Speaker 1: out of the gate. You're kidding, hired it just like that. Yeah,
- 20:40Speaker 1: Coach Jason Moron, Well, I'm going to be taking things
- 20:43Speaker 1: back to into my hands this year. Coach. You got
- 20:47Speaker 1: any advice from me, Well, I mean you got a
- 20:50Speaker 1: good good returning seniors. My advice is to let him
- 20:58Speaker 1: open it up a little more. Let the passing game open.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I know you played a ball control offense. Yeah I did.
- 21:04Speaker 1: I'd let it. I don't open it up, let it
- 21:05Speaker 1: breathe man, let the players just everyone go ah, you
- 21:10Speaker 1: know and and I don't know what does that mean? Well?
- 21:14Speaker 1: I did that every every practice. You know, I would
- 21:17Speaker 1: have the players a game, but drop back, drop your
- 21:19Speaker 1: arms by your side, take a deep breath, and go
- 21:22Speaker 1: uhh like that. All right, let's try it? Okay, all right? One? Two?
- 21:29Speaker 1: Uh no, no, no, no, no, that's no good. All right,
- 21:34Speaker 1: what am I doing wrong? This has to be a
- 21:36Speaker 1: complete relaxation. And this was key in getting the minds
- 21:40Speaker 1: of the players right. Yeah, but you only won three
- 21:42Speaker 1: games over four years. That's true, that's true. But the
- 21:46Speaker 1: players were relaxed. They were very relaxed. They they went
- 21:50Speaker 1: into the game intent on winning the game. But they
- 21:53Speaker 1: would get relaxed and I'd say, go, go, go. The
- 21:57Speaker 1: guy's coming right at you. He's running there, and you'd
- 21:59Speaker 1: see the the defensive end and maybe the safety would
- 22:02Speaker 1: be like, yeah, you know what it is. They would
- 22:06Speaker 1: not chase the guy down. Then, No, they wouldn't. Now
- 22:08Speaker 1: we're not talking about drug use, are we. No, No, no,
- 22:10Speaker 1: not at all. I wouldn't. I don't believe in that.
- 22:13Speaker 1: I believe in the method. Uh. This is the you know,
- 22:18Speaker 1: the the method of the method of knowing how to
- 22:23Speaker 1: relax and get the most out of a player. So,
- 22:27Speaker 1: you know, I'd be on the field during the game
- 22:33Speaker 1: and the players, you know, snap the ball to say
- 22:36Speaker 1: on defense, the players are playing defense, snap the ball.
- 22:39Speaker 1: I'd see my guys drop it and I'd say right away,
- 22:41Speaker 1: you guys, are you need to move up wrong formation,
- 22:44Speaker 1: get the line of scrimmage because it looks to me
- 22:46Speaker 1: like they may be blitzing, or excuse me, not blitzing.
- 22:50Speaker 1: They may be passing. They want to dump a short pass,
- 22:52Speaker 1: so you guys should blitz and they would. And I'd
- 22:59Speaker 1: say most of the time we were right, but we
- 23:01Speaker 1: didn't guess right all the time. Well how many times?
- 23:03Speaker 1: So what do they do? Wind up scoring a touchdown?
- 23:05Speaker 1: They did? Yeah, wind up scoring a touchdown on us. Okay.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I got Jason Moron with me, who was the head
- 23:11Speaker 1: coach at Belmar between twenty twenty one and twenty twenty four.
- 23:14Speaker 1: So you mentioned getting the best out of your players,
- 23:16Speaker 1: and this is my pet peeve. Parents. How did you
- 23:20Speaker 1: deal with parents? I got along pretty good with the parents.
- 23:23Speaker 1: You did. Yeah. What I'd say to them is, this
- 23:26Speaker 1: is my football team. I know he's your son, but
- 23:29Speaker 1: it's my football team. And if it comes down to
- 23:32Speaker 1: a choice between my football team or your son, I said,
- 23:36Speaker 1: I will push him out of a car in a freeway.
- 23:39Speaker 1: You didn't, No, I didn't see that. That's what I
- 23:41Speaker 1: was thinking. I said to them, if it comes down
- 23:44Speaker 1: to a choice between your son and my football team,
- 23:48Speaker 1: I said, your son's going to lose. And the parents
- 23:51Speaker 1: look at you like, well, my son is going to
- 23:53Speaker 1: be at USC my son's going to be UCLA. I
- 23:57Speaker 1: got the same thing with these parents. They all wanted
- 23:59Speaker 1: their kids to going to big on program. Yeah, and
- 24:01Speaker 1: I'd say, well, the kid's gonna have to perform a
- 24:03Speaker 1: lot better than he is. And that's when they would
- 24:07Speaker 1: fake like they were gonna punch my nuts. What is
- 24:10Speaker 1: what is the obsession a lot of these parents and
- 24:12Speaker 1: that you and I have in fact with our testicles.
- 24:16Speaker 1: You know, the older you get, the more you worry
- 24:17Speaker 1: that they're not gonna work, you know. And so I
- 24:22Speaker 1: wore a cup to all a parent teacher meetings. I
- 24:24Speaker 1: had on extra strong underwear, and anytime I saw them
- 24:30Speaker 1: flinch or flail or try to go out, you know,
- 24:32Speaker 1: try to go at it, I would put my hands
- 24:34Speaker 1: down and cover it. That. There were some parents who complained,
- 24:37Speaker 1: I heard his father mc quarters, Oh yeah, there were. Yeah,
- 24:40Speaker 1: they said, every five seconds, you're putting your hands down
- 24:43Speaker 1: over your crotch and they didn't know why. Well that's
- 24:45Speaker 1: a lie. Yes, they didn't know why because they were
- 24:47Speaker 1: going for it. They were going for your what they
- 24:51Speaker 1: were gonna punch or kick kick me round in a testicle? Okay,
- 24:58Speaker 1: all right, So and so go ahead with the story. Well,
- 25:01Speaker 1: so this is a just a situation with the parents,
- 25:06Speaker 1: you know. So they they would be and I'd say,
- 25:08Speaker 1: just back off. This is my football team, my football team,
- 25:12Speaker 1: and now we're in the heat of the summer. So
- 25:14Speaker 1: the parents would get very aggressive. I'd say, this is
- 25:16Speaker 1: my football team. Back off, and they'd walk up to
- 25:18Speaker 1: you and go yeah. You know, they'd fake like they
- 25:20Speaker 1: were going to hit your ballsack. Okay, can we maybe
- 25:24Speaker 1: not use the word ballsack? Sorry, They'd fake like they
- 25:26Speaker 1: were going to kick in the testicles. This was a
- 25:29Speaker 1: violent relationship you had with these parents, it was. Yeah.
- 25:33Speaker 1: And if I had to do over again, God help me,
- 25:35Speaker 1: I would have done it much different. What would you
- 25:37Speaker 1: have done different? I would have gotten to know them better.
- 25:40Speaker 1: I would have come over to their houses. If I'm
- 25:43Speaker 1: going to expose myself, I might as well just go
- 25:48Speaker 1: to their house and say I'm going to take my
- 25:49Speaker 1: pants off. Why what was this need to expose yourself
- 25:53Speaker 1: throughout the these years? Because it started out I wanted
- 25:56Speaker 1: to be the great football coach, and as you know,
- 25:58Speaker 1: I passed out. Yeah you fainted. I fainted, and when
- 26:02Speaker 1: I woke up, they said, there I was. I had
- 26:04Speaker 1: my pants half off. We'm talking about half off, not
- 26:08Speaker 1: the price. No, no, half off. Yeah, And so the
- 26:12Speaker 1: parents became very my friends. They became my protectors. And
- 26:20Speaker 1: I'll never forget it as long as I lived. That
- 26:22Speaker 1: year that we went on to the semifinals after winning
- 26:27Speaker 1: the Watusi League, and it was all I could do
- 26:31Speaker 1: just to keep from screaming my joy at the top
- 26:34Speaker 1: of my lungs. But by god we did, and that
- 26:37Speaker 1: postseason and how far into the post sings you get?
- 26:41Speaker 1: You know? I mean, no, I forget that was what year?
- 26:44Speaker 1: That was? Twenty twenty three? I honestly forget, you know,
- 26:49Speaker 1: fool what would happen that year? No, I don't, I don't.
- 26:52Speaker 1: You just want me to say it. I don't want
- 26:55Speaker 1: to humiliate you. Is at it? Well, how do you
- 26:57Speaker 1: know to be humiliating? Well? What is it? Lost? You lost? Yeah,
- 27:03Speaker 1: in the playoff game? No, when did you lose? We
- 27:06Speaker 1: lost every game? Okay, so you're saying lost every game? Yeah,
- 27:12Speaker 1: I'm not stuttering over here. Excuse me. Nothing pisses me
- 27:15Speaker 1: off more than people saying that to me. Sorry, all right.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Coach Moron, Jason Moron has been my special guest here
- 27:21Speaker 1: on the Vernon Dozer tells it like it is our
- 27:25Speaker 1: Whatever the fuck this thing's called, it's gonna what father
- 27:29Speaker 1: mcquarter is gonna. Yeah, doesn't want that language. Would you
- 27:33Speaker 1: tell him to stick in his ass? Okay? Honest to god,
- 27:38Speaker 1: every morning, noon, and night, I got my quarters on
- 27:41Speaker 1: me anyway, folks, thank you very much for listening to
