- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:16presented by C Kick. This is episode 413.
- 0:21I'll be your host, Kyle Cord. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:24Reyes and Nate. 413, that's how. That's how deep I'm taking ya.
- 0:32Left, center cranked. I saw, I saw this video today
- 0:38and I I feel bad for the kid. I really do.
- 0:42But it was this like prospect page trying to get like kids
- 0:47signed or whatever. Sure.
- 0:50And I think it was parody. I'm not going to lie, I think it
- 0:53was parody. I think this was intentionally
- 0:55done. I think there's a conspiracy at
- 0:56play here, but it was like class of such and such prospects name,
- 1:03blah blah blah, high school. And it was like, what are you
- 1:08doing with this pitch? And you you think he's just
- 1:12going to throw the nastiest hook or just the cleanest, tightest
- 1:15slider or something. He just loops this curveball in
- 1:20and every single one of the IT clearly went viral.
- 1:23Every single one of the comments in there was not to be a hater,
- 1:27but I'm taking that minimum 450. Thank you.
- 1:32So bro, recruiting is so crazy cause like kids are like 9 years
- 1:38old and they'll just throw something out like class of
- 1:412037? Like, stop, dude, stop.
- 1:46No one wants to see you in your first game of your double header
- 1:53where you're doing what we did in between.
- 1:56You're crushing a Subway sandwich and going back on the
- 1:59bump. Next game.
- 2:00It's like, stop this, just it starts.
- 2:04It starts too early. Nowadays too too.
- 2:09Early, but it's never too early to subscribe to the three O take
- 2:13YouTube. In fact, you should have already
- 2:15been subscribed, but if you're not, we'll let it.
- 2:19We'll let it slide just this once.
- 2:21So head on over to the YouTube hit subscribe.
- 2:24We're trying to get to 2000 Subs by the end of 2024.
- 2:30Like that. That's the goal.
- 2:33Don't let us down. Don't make us look like idiots.
- 2:37We do that enough on our own, yeah.
- 2:39So on our own to it, OK. Don't contribute to the
- 2:43movement. I've got that covered.
- 2:44Get Get US to UK. Landscaping wanted us to get
- 2:49going before they started up. That's awesome.
- 2:51Oh, love that. That's no, that's great.
- 2:55Been quiet all day 1245? Sure.
- 3:00Fire. Fire up the mowers.
- 3:01How about it? Got YouTube covered?
- 3:06Let's start off with some Jorge Solaire talk real quick.
- 3:11I believe. As luck would have it, this
- 3:13happened within 24 hours after we finished last episode.
- 3:19It's actually. It's actually a nice thing, I
- 3:21think, like a lot of our. Listeners can just expect some
- 3:25type of free agency move after this gets dropped.
- 3:28So you're welcome. Yeah, it's us.
- 3:31Clearly we're the straw that stirs the drink.
- 3:35You're welcome. Jorge Solaire, Giants and Jorge
- 3:39Solaire agreed to a three-year contract worth 42,000,000
- 3:45presumably will be the DH and it's it beefs up the line up a
- 3:51little bit. What are you looking at the
- 3:54projected line up for the Giants right now because you know
- 4:01they've made they've made some additions certainly Jung Hui,
- 4:06Jordan Hicks. Looking at what they're bringing
- 4:08to the table in 2024, how do you feel about it?
- 4:14It sounds like a sole record. Dude, it sounds like a broken
- 4:16record. I sound the same every single
- 4:19Giants move. I sound the same for last three
- 4:22years. I I say the same freaking thing.
- 4:25I don't get it. I don't get what they're doing.
- 4:28I don't. I don't fully under understand
- 4:32the reasoning behind certain moves.
- 4:35I understand you need pop, but like from everything we saw, I'm
- 4:41not following the Giants as closely as some, but from what
- 4:47we saw, Casey Schmidt coming onto the scene at third base.
- 4:51So now you have JD Davis that you brought in.
- 4:54Now you have Wilmer Flores that you brought in who like are
- 4:58gonna have to rotate through that DH spot.
- 5:01You have Austin Slater in the outfield mixed with Yaz in the
- 5:05outfield mixed with Conforto. Guys that need to rotate through
- 5:10Jung Guli's presumably being the starting center fielder.
- 5:13So it's like you're just. I don't.
- 5:18I don't get it. I don't get it.
- 5:22You don't have to just sign guys just to sign them, like make it
- 5:28make sense. I don't understand.
- 5:32Legitimate question for you, and I may have proposed this to you
- 5:36once before, but as a refresher, now that we're back on the
- 5:39Giants yet again, would you rather be a team such as the Red
- 5:46Sox who have made it clear that they're obviously we'll get to a
- 5:51a, a move they just made today here in a moment.
- 5:55But generally speaking, making it clear that they're not
- 5:58trying, they're not trying to lock down guys for more than a
- 6:03year's worth of performance because they have signed a
- 6:07couple guys already who are effectively out through the 2024
- 6:12season, so they're really just giving you one year.
- 6:17Would you rather be in a situation like that where you
- 6:21don't make moves just to make moves, or any moves for that
- 6:25matter? Or would you rather be the
- 6:27Giants, where you sign some guys, you sign some noteworthy
- 6:32names, you sign a few guys to plug in some holes, but maybe
- 6:36you look at it and you go, I don't really know if that makes
- 6:38sense, but hey, at least we're making these moves.
- 6:41I don't know. Where would you rather be?
- 6:42I don't know. I'm somewhere in between.
- 6:44I understand. I get it.
- 6:46Like you have to fill out a roster.
- 6:48I get that. I just don't understand.
- 6:53Like, I I wouldn't want this. I wouldn't want this if I was a
- 6:57Giants fan. And this, like, weird you.
- 7:02You're in this position where you kind of have to overpay for
- 7:04free agents, but at the same time like you're not really,
- 7:09like you're not going to go run down the division with this
- 7:11roster. You're incredibly lucky to find
- 7:16yourself in a wild card position considering how like between the
- 7:22East and West and the NL being what it is.
- 7:25I just, I don't see how. It's just like the it's the
- 7:31weird fit and it's every year. Every year they bring in like an
- 7:37older outfielder who I just don't get it.
- 7:40It's 14 milli year. Was it three years, 42.
- 7:44It seems like an overpay it seems like.
- 7:48Did you? Just do that math in your head.
- 7:50Good for you. Thanks.
- 7:51Appreciate that. I just, I don't if he's not
- 7:58gonna play the outfield at all. But you have like three third
- 8:06baseman. You have 5 outfielders that
- 8:10you're going to want to get some time that are all aged.
- 8:14I think what it seems like. I could assume like Wilmore
- 8:17Flores slides over to 1st sometimes but you have Lamont
- 8:20Wade Junior there. Why did you bring in JD Davis
- 8:25when you have Casey Schmidt, who I understand, you don't know if
- 8:28prospects will turn out, but like, he looks pretty good.
- 8:33The the, the outfield situation. Like, I just, I don't understand
- 8:37it. There's more than just one or
- 8:41two names out of the loop. And when you're so, like you're
- 8:47so thin at certain positions, like you're super thin in the
- 8:51bullpen, you're super thin at short.
- 8:55But you're electing to spend money on ADH, where you already
- 9:00have names that you absolutely presumably need to fill in that
- 9:05DH and rotate through that position.
- 9:08So when you bring in a full time DH, it's like, I would rather
- 9:11you spend your 14 a year somewhere else 'cause this just
- 9:16doesn't add up. And they do it over and over
- 9:19again. They did it last year.
- 9:21It's every year. It's an it's an aged outfielder
- 9:26who needs DH time every year, and Solaire has his moments.
- 9:34Goodyear last year that he saw, he hit like 25035 Jacks, 7080
- 9:40Eddie Ribs, something like that. Probably one of his best years.
- 9:45But he's 31 and you're giving him 14 a year for three years.
- 9:51It's just, I don't. I don't get it.
- 9:54I feel like you're just no one else is interested in you and
- 9:57you're just willing to write checks out for whether it's a
- 10:00good fit or not. Nothing against Solaire.
- 10:04I I think he can bop when he when he is on and definitely a
- 10:09good piece for most lineups. I just don't understand this
- 10:13lineup and I again baffled by what the Giants are doing.
- 10:22That went about as that that went as as exactly as I thought
- 10:28it would. Am I crazy?
- 10:29I can't be the only one on this island.
- 10:32No, I mean when you when you dwindle it down to that an aging
- 10:35outfielder who needs DH time or I mean you even could you could
- 10:40flip that script and say an aging primary DH who could maybe
- 10:46provide you a a few games here and there in the outfield.
- 10:49It's one or the other that's what you're that's what you're
- 10:51getting from the Giants year in and year out.
- 10:52So Yep. No, I mean you, I think you
- 10:56nailed it with that and we'll see.
- 11:00I I don't know that the Giants could have done much this
- 11:03offseason post Ohtani Yamamoto signings to close that gap
- 11:10really at all. Yeah.
- 11:11And I'm not. Yeah.
- 11:12I'm not saying like, there's amazing options elsewhere.
- 11:17I think they're still in hopes for Snell, but like I, the
- 11:22roster configuration, specifically on the offensive
- 11:25side is just it's it's horrendous.
- 11:29It's horrendous and they do it every year.
- 11:34Just doesn't make sense to me. I mean, honestly, if we're
- 11:37talking smart moves from the Giants, at least when it comes
- 11:42to the eye test, right off the top of the head, I feel like
- 11:45Logan Webb is the smartest move they've made in terms of
- 11:48identifying a guy that could, yeah, provide, can produce.
- 11:52I'm gonna be. I'm getting.
- 11:54I'm getting blind squirrel vibes.
- 11:56I'm getting blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while
- 11:59vibes. That's what that feels like to
- 12:00me. Him.
- 12:03I think Patrick Bailey is an absolute freak of a catcher.
- 12:06I think the offensive stuff will show up eventually.
- 12:08I think defensively, that guy's a wizard.
- 12:13I think there's some good in there.
- 12:16I just. I just.
- 12:17I don't. I don't understand Sable,
- 12:21Slater, Yaz, Jung Ho Lee. Conforto.
- 12:26Conforto Solaire, I would say 1520 games in the outfield like
- 12:32I and then three, three third baseman and Lamont Way junior.
- 12:38Wasn't he an outfielder and transitioned into being the
- 12:42first baseman just to fit for them.
- 12:45I I don't understand. I don't get it.
- 12:52It's it's not so much about Solaire.
- 12:54It's about like this series of moves that they made the last
- 12:57few years where it's like, what's that that meme where
- 13:01they're like there's that red button and you know, I can't
- 13:04wait to press it. Aging outfielder who needs to
- 13:07age time. That's that should be the Giants
- 13:11tweet right now. It's getting old.
- 13:17Brandon Woodruff resigned by the Brewers to A2 year deal.
- 13:23He'll be out for 2024 following surgery last October.
- 13:31So essentially paying him to rehab for 2024.
- 13:37Get him back 2025. I think this is this was much
- 13:42needed for them following losing Corbin Burns.
- 13:49Yeah at least keep some of that some of what you had in that
- 13:53rotation intact. And then I also see that they
- 13:58are now out on the possibility of moving Devin Williams.
- 14:03Did I did I read that Sure. I believe.
- 14:07I believe that's what I saw. So they're they're, I did have
- 14:10to do that, right? Like quite now.
- 14:14Yeah, but they're they're identifying pieces, as they
- 14:18should, that they want to keep at Bay, at least for the next
- 14:23couple years, hopefully for their sake, and make a run at
- 14:28the Central. What?
- 14:31Was the Woodruff deal for? What was that deal for?
- 14:43I. Didn't get the I think at the
- 14:44time when I when I was pulling my notes together.
- 14:46I don't know if the financials were released.
- 14:49He's freshly 31, but it is a two year deal obviously.
- 14:53Yeah. Yeah, I don't see any numbers
- 14:57either O34. So 617 per, hmm, 17, zero to
- 15:11rehab. That sounds nice.
- 15:16Yeah. I I guess, 'cause, like you got
- 15:21to assume when he comes back, if there isn't any injury stuff,
- 15:27he's kind of steps into an ace roll pretty easily.
- 15:30We've seen him be an ace before that He's had some rough, some
- 15:34rough patches, but. He'll step in.
- 15:37Quality stuff. He'll step into a number one,
- 15:40Number one to you, to use your words.
- 15:42Correct, Correct. From years past, he'll step into
- 15:44a number one role, not an ace. Correct.
- 15:47Step into the number one role. No, no rush on the Devin
- 15:52Williams thing. Like yeah, it's you might as
- 15:54well just see what you have and then assess closer to the
- 15:58deadline. But I guess interesting.
- 16:06I've the gut feeling maybe obviously he doesn't pitch this
- 16:12year. You bring him back in 2025 maybe
- 16:15he has really good stuff and like the the whole hey, we liked
- 16:24you when you were down bad. Would you maybe be down to take
- 16:28a hometown discount to stay here for the rest of your career?
- 16:33That's kind of the vibe I get. So or again, comes back 2025 and
- 16:42is nails and they're out of it. And you know, you ship them out
- 16:46for whatever that remainder. Half of, half of 17 is, you
- 16:50know, eight, 8, 1/2, whatever it may be.
- 16:54That's pretty sellable, pretty tradable.
- 16:58So I guess it makes sense. This is like the new standard,
- 17:02huh? Like we're gonna get into
- 17:04another deal here in a minute. That like when they go out for
- 17:07for TJI. Hate it.
- 17:10Let's pay you for your recovery. And then, I don't know, maybe
- 17:16just beat the rush of what the demand would be after surgery
- 17:20and recovery. Yeah, there has to be like,
- 17:23there's a reason I think teams are shifting to this approach
- 17:26because I don't recall this being as prominent.
- 17:29Me neither. In recent years I I don't
- 17:34understand the the switch but there must be something that
- 17:37says that there is success in finance approach like you said
- 17:42maybe you're beating beating some some sort of rush maybe an
- 17:47inevitable rush based on who who it is that you're dealing with
- 17:51like what name you're dealing with.
- 17:54But he is he turned would have turned 31 within the last month.
- 17:58So by the end by next spring once he's once he's back for
- 18:062025 he'll be 32. And then if it's if they do
- 18:13decide to ship him out starting 2026 he'll be 33.
- 18:16So that's that's what you're dealing with with Brainer
- 18:19Woodruff. He's got good stuff like he's
- 18:21he's got great stuff and like you said he's he's given you ace
- 18:24quality stuff before. But if if this is their move for
- 18:32that number one role for the next handful of years like if
- 18:36they if they're like OK that we're not we're not bothering
- 18:40going out and sunning somebody like we we feel like he can be
- 18:43our guy. That's what you're dealing with.
- 18:48It's a no brainer if you're the player I'll take 17 to to rehab,
- 18:56yeah. Yeah, I feel like there's got to
- 18:58be there's there has to be some level of like if you are a
- 19:03player, as we mentioned, there's been, there's been many over the
- 19:07last two to three years who have who have done this, they've
- 19:10signed to rehab to then come back.
- 19:15What do you think the level of indebtedness looks like for
- 19:20these guys? Like what do you think goes
- 19:22through their mind? Yeah, they're they're cashing a
- 19:25check just to hit the training room just to work on these
- 19:33regiments day in and day out. I'm not saying they're not doing
- 19:36anything, but in terms of the value they're providing the team
- 19:40for that given year plus very minimal.
- 19:45So do you think there's a a, a degree of willingness to take
- 19:52that take a discount should the opportunity arise?
- 19:56One would think if this contract, I mean now that I'm
- 19:58thinking about this contract kind of sucks because I mean
- 20:03you're he had 10.8 last year on a one year deal and to sit there
- 20:13and say, hey, we're the Milwaukee Brewers.
- 20:21We're not gonna be able to afford him after TJ recovery
- 20:28year. Like, are you thinking he's
- 20:32gonna make more than 17? Do you think there's a club out
- 20:37there that's gonna say you're 32?
- 20:40You just missed a year from TJ. We're gonna give you 20.
- 20:44Like, I I think 17's a bit of an overpay.
- 20:49Then 34 total is like if you only get, say they get him back,
- 20:54you missed 2024, say they're out of it halfway through 2025 and
- 20:58you ship him out of town before the deadline.
- 21:02In reality like is the return you're gonna get worth at that
- 21:08point Like what 25 all in. If you're paying half of 2025
- 21:16season salary like is are you going to get a haul that's worth
- 21:21$25 million for 12 games started out of Brandon Wood.
- 21:27You're I I don't like it. Actually now that I think more
- 21:30about it I don't like the number.
- 21:33I don't hate the idea of you being a small market team and
- 21:37saying hey let's keep them let's show our loyalty.
- 21:40Hopefully he returns the favor when he find success again and
- 21:43is a free agent again. But for 34, I don't love that 34
- 21:52mil a year or 34 mil total. And he's 32 by the time he's
- 21:57pitching for you again. Yeah, maybe.
- 22:01So I'll pull up numbers. He's he's definitely dipped down
- 22:07at times. Maybe selfishly if you're the
- 22:11Brewers, you kind of ride it out and let time work in your favor.
- 22:17Brandon Woodruff kind of slides into the the shadows for a year
- 22:21and then when it comes time to re up you go, OK, like you're
- 22:24coming you're you're fresh off surgery.
- 22:26I don't know if we necessarily want to commit a whole lot of
- 22:31money. Let's let's play it by ear and
- 22:32you may have been able to save a few million but maybe that that
- 22:36plays into they're they're banking on a big bounce back.
- 22:40Maybe they know more than they're letting onto by by
- 22:45bringing it back. I'm not.
- 22:47I'm not sure. But the most uneasy he's ever
- 22:49thrown is 179 in 2021. Yeah, 2020, 253 innings, 2019,
- 23:03121, I I just don't know if there's enough there to say
- 23:12you're gonna be our ace. And I definitely don't see $34
- 23:16million here. Good, but not great.
- 23:24It's win for Woodruff. Definitely a win.
- 23:27Win for Woodruff, Liam Hendricks.
- 23:31Two year deal with the Boston Red Sox announced today he will
- 23:37be out from TJ. It's possible he pitches late
- 23:43into 2024, but with the way that the Red Sox offseason has gone,
- 23:49I feel that there will be no need to rush him back.
- 23:53So one can assume given the ramp the the only the only reason I
- 24:02would say Liam Hendricks, it would be a possibility that he
- 24:06returns late in 2024 is because it's Liam Hendricks and we've
- 24:09we've seen how he works back in. Front of the pod Liam Hendricks.
- 24:15Friend of the pod, Liam Hendricks.
- 24:18We've seen how he's come back before and how accelerated he
- 24:21can make that process, so it's possible that even if they're
- 24:27not in contention, I'm banking on that being the case.
- 24:30Maybe he just wants to get back and fine tune some things before
- 24:35they head in the offseason, where he really ramps it back up
- 24:37for 2025. But if there's any sort of
- 24:46hiccup, if the if the Red Sox are on pace to win 55 games, not
- 24:52going to happen. Hopefully not.
- 24:53But if that happened, just bank on Liam Hendricks not taking the
- 24:57mound until 2025. But big I'm.
- 25:03I'm a huge Liam Hendricks fan dude.
- 25:06I like when I when I saw that notification this morning, I
- 25:08was. A little bummed.
- 25:11I had a feeling you would be. And on the flip side, I was.
- 25:14I was rather excited. It's one of the few bright spots
- 25:22I've had this offseason that's Red Sox fan, and it almost made
- 25:25me forget the lack of effort we've seen from the front
- 25:29office. Yeah, at the Boston Red Sox.
- 25:32Just for a moment. Just for a moment.
- 25:33It made me forget. But then I thought.
- 25:35You remember he's not pitching this year?
- 25:38And then on top of that, you remember he's not pitching.
- 25:40So I'm like, yeah, it was, it was a fleeting happiness.
- 25:44What? Were the numbers on this deal.
- 25:48Two years, 10 mil. Makes much more sense.
- 25:54Makes much more sense. Pay guy 5 mil to rehab?
- 25:59Sure. Well, we're also talking about a
- 26:02reliever first. Reliever different
- 26:04circumstances. But the rehab year I think is
- 26:07key. Like, I mean, yeah, Woodruff was
- 26:09also already under contract anyway.
- 26:11But if you have the opportunity to pay that upfront and you're
- 26:16looking at a guy who's about to rehab, you're going, we'll,
- 26:19we'll bring you in or we'll keep you around depending upon the
- 26:23contract situation. But we're not going to go crazy.
- 26:26And I think again, five years or five, 5 / 2 or five each year is
- 26:32just, that's totally fine. I don't think that's anything to
- 26:35make you feel bad about. And best case scenario, you got
- 26:40lightning in a bottle in 2025. And when I mean lightning that
- 26:46that guy is lightning. So I'm a little bummed about the
- 26:52location, but this makes more sense as far as, like a monetary
- 26:59deal goes of signing a guy to rehab.
- 27:04I don't hate it. I don't hate it.
- 27:06I still think they try to ship Kenley out.
- 27:13I think this allows. Costs.
- 27:15This allows you to probably hold on to Kenley until the deadline
- 27:20and then, similar to a lot of teams, just assess where you are
- 27:24in the season. If you're 12 games out, excuse
- 27:28me? If you're 12 games out at that
- 27:29point and you're like this season's toast, you finish the
- 27:33season with no closer knowing that you have a pretty good
- 27:36closer coming into next year. Interesting.
- 27:41I like it more that we're talking it out.
- 27:43But this is now the second arm that the Red Sox have signed,
- 27:48who will be of 0 value to them, presumably in 2024, the other
- 27:53being Michael Fulmer. Mm hmm.
- 27:56Mm hmm. Not not sure what we're doing
- 27:59there, but go, go socks, am I right?
- 28:07Go socks. So we go for.
- 28:10You get. Crickets on one of those buttons
- 28:12so you can press. This is as good as I I can get.
- 28:27That's all of That's all of Red Sox Nation collectively.
- 28:30Anyone's speakers or eardrums if they're wearing earpods that
- 28:34that came in hot. How about that?
- 28:37Yeah, so we go from a guy who. There you go, figure this out.
- 28:45Literally would give his arm to pitch to a guy that actively
- 28:51hates baseball. Perfect transition.
- 28:54I knew you're going to nail it. I knew you're going to stick the
- 28:56landing. Thank you.
- 28:58That's a 10 out of 10, yeah. Anthony Rendon, can I be honest
- 29:05with you? Please.
- 29:08Can I be honest, when I woke up this morning, I did not think we
- 29:12were going to be talking about Anthony Rendon.
- 29:15I thought we were done. I thought we were done talking
- 29:21about Anthony Rendon, but unfortunately we had to talk
- 29:27about Anthony Rendon because Anthony Rendon has given us yet
- 29:34another reason. Yeah.
- 29:39To talk about Anthony Rendon. Look, I I wish I could give
- 29:44credit to where this interview or was it an interview?
- 29:47Was it in the clubhouse or the? Who is still talking to this
- 29:52idiot? Media availability.
- 29:53I don't know what what this was from, but I pulled a screen grab
- 29:57from some interaction he had with somebody.
- 30:02I think I saw Sam Blum. Sam Blum.
- 30:05Sam Blum tweeted it. I don't know if he was the one
- 30:08that was having this interaction, but let me just
- 30:11read you. Let me just read you this
- 30:15transcript from this interaction.
- 30:17Last year you said you'd consider retiring.
- 30:20What's your mindset now? Anthony Rendon?
- 30:23My enthusiasm has been the same since I got drafted.
- 30:25To be honest with you, I was actually deleting old emails
- 30:28because my storage to my maximum in my e-mail.
- 30:32So I'm going back and deleting old emails.
- 30:36I emailed myself a pros and cons of why I wanted to stay in the
- 30:40game. This was in 2014.
- 30:42My thought process of the game has not changed since then.
- 30:45I keep making it this long, guys.
- 30:49Not good with words. I don't.
- 30:50I have a hard time understanding what he's talking about.
- 30:54Next question, How does your pro pros and cons list compared to
- 30:5710 years ago? It's a lot different.
- 31:00I'm married. I have 4 kids.
- 31:01My priorities have changed since I was in my early 20s, so
- 31:04definitely my perspective on baseball has been more skewed.
- 31:08Is it still a top priority for you?
- 31:10It's never been a top priority for me.
- 31:12This is a job. I do this to make a living.
- 31:14My faith, my family come before, come first, before this job.
- 31:18So if those things come before it, I'm leaving.
- 31:21Is it a priority? Oh, it's a priority for sure,
- 31:24because it's my job. I'm here, aren't I?
- 31:27Do you want to be here? I don't want to talk to you guys
- 31:30at 7:00 in the morning or whatever time it is.
- 31:33Do you want to be here playing baseball for the Angels?
- 31:35I have answered your question. So why do you keep picking at
- 31:38it? Let me just say right off the
- 31:40top, because I've seen a lot of of, I've seen a lot of accounts
- 31:44post this quote without the context and super.
- 31:48Out of context for sure, I I really.
- 31:51Whether or not you want to believe me, I do my best to post
- 31:54quotes like this in their full context because I know how easy
- 31:58it would be to post it out of context.
- 32:00I I'm not perfect in that sometimes I I leave the tail end
- 32:04of something out and it throws everything off.
- 32:08But something like this, I feel like it's important to post the
- 32:11full quote within its full context because it's easy to sit
- 32:16there and look at the part where he talks about It's never been a
- 32:20top priority for me. This is a job.
- 32:22I do this to make a living. If you cut it right there,
- 32:24you're going, OK, Anthony Rendon, like, how much more do
- 32:27you want the public to hate you? How much more do you want
- 32:29baseball fans that hate you? But then he goes on to say my
- 32:33faith, my family come first before this job.
- 32:35So if those things come before it, I'm leaving.
- 32:38I know we've shared our thoughts on Anthony Rendon with over the
- 32:41last month. I don't disagree.
- 32:43With that. I don't disagree with that.
- 32:46It's just the the issue that I have with this is the timing of
- 32:51it. Like why?
- 32:52Why are we dabbling in that? Like he's he's made it very
- 32:56clear that he doesn't have a problem answering a question in
- 33:01a way that could rub peoples the wrong way.
- 33:04That's known. But with what little
- 33:09self-awareness you have left Anthony Rendon, can you not use
- 33:12that to go? I've been in some really hot
- 33:15water recently for some things I've said and for the ways in
- 33:18which I've said them. Maybe I don't use these words in
- 33:23this way to make it sound like I don't care about my team, I
- 33:26don't care about my, my what I do for a living, because at the
- 33:30end of the day it's just a job. He didn't do that.
- 33:32He just went out and said I I do this to make money essentially,
- 33:37is what he said. And if something more important
- 33:40comes up, I'm going to, I'm going to take that route.
- 33:44That's basically what he. Said, yeah, I don't hate where
- 33:47we ended, but but again, everyone that reads that is
- 33:53going to stop there. They're going to stop it out of
- 33:55out of context quote that makes it seem like it doesn't care.
- 34:01But in reality, pretty much every, I think every adult man
- 34:07would say that same thing, right?
- 34:09Like, you of course have priorities.
- 34:12Any other superstar in the game would probably answer that the
- 34:15same way. Anybody that's married or has
- 34:18faith would answer that the same way.
- 34:20So you can't argue it. It's just like they would give
- 34:23the same answer, not answer the same way.
- 34:26He answered it in a horrible way, and there's definitely ways
- 34:29to lead with that. Is baseball your top priority?
- 34:35It's not my top priority. Faith and family come first, but
- 34:40after that, yeah, baseball. I've spent my whole life working
- 34:43for this, and it is a top priority, but it's not the top.
- 34:48It's it's not that hard that it's clear that he's doing this
- 34:51on purpose. He's answering these questions
- 34:54this way, on purpose. This like, desire to be the
- 34:59villain with this, like the almost self-righteous chip that
- 35:08he's put on his shoulder for, for seeming like he's being
- 35:15attacked by media. It's like you're putting your
- 35:17own foot in your mouth, dude, you're doing this to yourself.
- 35:23I just don't get why he continues to do the same thing.
- 35:27But at a certain point, I mean we've had this across sports for
- 35:30decades. There's there's just there's
- 35:32athletes that enjoy doing this to media.
- 35:37They enjoy it. They're polarizing and sorry to
- 35:42say it, but this is the only way we're ever talking about Anthony
- 35:45Rendon, because outside of this stuff, he's not really relevant
- 35:49anymore. But it I think, why?
- 35:54Why say this stuff to stay relevant if it's not positive?
- 35:58I think Anthony Rendon has forgotten that we're at a day
- 36:02and age where you can no longer keep things like this in the
- 36:07clubhouse. I, again, I don't know what the
- 36:10context of this conversation was.
- 36:13I don't know if it was it media availability or spring training
- 36:16or whether this was a podcast, what I honestly don't know.
- 36:20But where did day and age where you can't?
- 36:23Like if he's trying to be like tongue in cheek, you know,
- 36:28little jab here, little jab there to the media and like have
- 36:31fun with it. Like if that's the route he's
- 36:33trying to take, we we you can't do that anymore as a
- 36:37professional athlete. These your quotes get out far
- 36:41too fast. They spread far too wide.
- 36:43The context gets skewed wildly and when you do it as frequently
- 36:50as he's doing it, the narrative surrounding you is going to
- 36:54change pretty terribly and it's going to be hard to recover.
- 37:01And he's at a point now where I I think he just doesn't care.
- 37:04And I think it started the beginning of last year and it
- 37:06may have even been before that. Like I saw, I saw, I saw a post
- 37:11the other day and I don't remember what the like what the
- 37:15what it was stating a case for. But it was basically talking
- 37:20about his heart rate in the 2019 World Series and like the
- 37:25comments were starting to put the pieces together, talking
- 37:30about how calm he appeared in the 2019 World Series.
- 37:33And people were saying, well, if this whole like not really
- 37:36caring about baseball thing has been going on for some time.
- 37:40But it's probably pretty easy to keep a relatively low heartbeat
- 37:44and high pressure situation just show up thinking like I'm just
- 37:47here to collect my money, I I really couldn't care less
- 37:50whether we win or lose or whether or not we bring home a a
- 37:55championship or not. So it's I don't know man.
- 37:59The I I think we maybe have been deceived a little bit by the the
- 38:03earlier probably Narendran's career or maybe he's just
- 38:06becoming jaded. Dude, I I I really don't know.
- 38:09It doesn't make any sense. It's why he's behaving this way.
- 38:12Cocktail of all those things. I don't get it.
- 38:16I don't get it. But I think it's safe to say
- 38:20that he just doesn't he. He hates baseball.
- 38:23Yeah. I'm I'm not going to put words
- 38:25in his mouth, but based on what he has said to the media.
- 38:28What I think he hates being a pro.
- 38:30That's what it really seems like.
- 38:32But he'll sit there. He'll collect his check.
- 38:35Yeah. I don't.
- 38:38Get He's been emailing himself going back 10 years,
- 38:42contemplating retirement. What you waiting for, dude?
- 38:47Because nobody wants you here. I some people have asked me,
- 38:53they said like, why doesn't, why why don't the Angels just cut
- 38:57ties? And I'm going.
- 38:59I actually was having a conversation with somebody today
- 39:02and I responded and I said honestly, I think the Angels are
- 39:07waiting for Anthony Rendon to somehow violate his contract by
- 39:12behaving in such a way that voids the rest of his contract
- 39:15so they can get out of it Scott free.
- 39:18And I said that screw up eventually.
- 39:20I said yeah, I said that like partially joking but the but
- 39:22then I thought about it more and I'm like, no, that's very that's
- 39:25very much within the realm of possibility with this guy.
- 39:28It is he's been he's made headlines what, two to three
- 39:31times this offseason and he he hasn't done anything like a
- 39:36value. It's just been for all the wrong
- 39:37reasons. I don't like him.
- 39:43That's what I'm dealing with. That's what we're dealing with.
- 39:48Rob Manfred will be all done in 2029.
- 39:51He announced told reporters on Thursday that this will be his
- 39:56final term in office and will retire in January of 2029.
- 40:01Look, man, there's a lot of people out there going out.
- 40:04Everybody calm down. Why are we getting so excited?
- 40:06Well, because we know when the end is.
- 40:08I don't care if it's not happening this week.
- 40:10I don't care if it's not happening next month.
- 40:13I don't even care if it's not happening next year.
- 40:15I can. I can wait it out.
- 40:16I just needed to know. When the end was going to be, I
- 40:20didn't want this sprung on me 10 years down the road.
- 40:24Like, oh, we had to sit through 10 tantalizing years not knowing
- 40:29when this madness was going to conclude.
- 40:33But now we know. January 2029.
- 40:39Dare I say we get our game back? Probably not, because the next
- 40:44CBA is what, 2027? Is it five years or 10 years?
- 40:51I can't imagine him leaving. It's.
- 40:53Not ten years. I can't imagine him leaving
- 40:58before the next CBA. Well, I mean, I no, I let me
- 41:05rephrase. I don't mean we get our game
- 41:07back in the sense of like immediate action will follow.
- 41:10I'm just saying, I know what you're saying.
- 41:12A new face? Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 41:17New new conversations can be had about whoever feels the role and
- 41:21I'm just going to go ahead and throw throw a Theo Epstein's
- 41:25name in into the ring for consideration.
- 41:28Yeah, I'm all done with owner style commissioners.
- 41:33I know that there the guy that represents the owners, but
- 41:37someone who has their, you know, figure on the Pulse a little bit
- 41:40more would be nice. The reason I asked is because
- 41:46after when I was scrolling through articles, after that
- 41:48article, I saw something that he was, which I actually he only
- 41:53says a few things that I agree with, and this was one of them.
- 41:58He said before his time is done, he's hoping to create a free
- 42:03agency deadline in the offseason where he's really hoping for
- 42:08like a week or two of just free agency frenzy and then there's a
- 42:13deadline. And I was like, say it, say it,
- 42:19say it. I like it.
- 42:21I like it too. I like it.
- 42:23I got to tip my cap and the for the record, not my first time
- 42:27tipping my cap, told Robbie Manfred.
- 42:30I'm just saying the majority of times I'm going, what are we
- 42:33doing? But this is certainly one of
- 42:36those times from go, you know what that would be?
- 42:38AI think that would be a a breath of fresh air.
- 42:41That would be a welcome change. I mean, and of course.
- 42:44You got bores coming out being like no we're good Yeah, I'm
- 42:48sure for sure. Chill, you've made your.
- 42:50Money. There's certain things that
- 42:52don't get that probably get a more blown up and blown out of
- 42:58proportion. I think we're guilty of it at
- 42:59times and there's probably some things that need more attention.
- 43:03I think there are some good things he's done.
- 43:06What flew under the radar was the Then again this is more of
- 43:11like AMLBPA&MLBCBA type agreement thing but minor
- 43:18leaguers being able to have just minor league agents like that.
- 43:24You know and the things he's doing or has done with minor
- 43:28leaguers and and again like it's probably more the player
- 43:31association side that's fighting for these things.
- 43:34But he is agreeing to it and it is in his tenure.
- 43:39When you talk about him like I think we're going to probably
- 43:43look back and be appreciative of the shift being eliminated.
- 43:50I can kind of get on board with the limited disengagements.
- 43:55I think the bigger bases in the pitch clock, those are two
- 43:57things that I'm don't really love, but I think we'll end up
- 44:02being OK with him and and being fine.
- 44:04So when you talk about him going to 2029, I think you'll see all
- 44:08of these rules he's put into place.
- 44:09You're going to see an uptick in in what's probably, I'm assuming
- 44:14viewership. There's a lot and and I don't
- 44:16know how much credit goes to him versus just us being in the day
- 44:20and age that we are having a technology to be able to watch
- 44:23games from anywhere. I'd like to see blackouts
- 44:27addressed before he leaves. I'd like to potentially see the
- 44:33A's elsewhere and I'm going to go ahead and say two more teams
- 44:37added into the league and probably a divisional
- 44:40reconstruction. I think there's a a lot coming
- 44:45in these next five years that he's going to do.
- 44:48That's why I was asking about when the next CBA is.
- 44:50Did you find an answer on that? They're five years, five years,
- 44:55so. 2027 will be the the next one, so that gives him another
- 44:59CBA and then two years to watch it all kind of unfold, yeah.
- 45:06I I think he you you mentioned, I think that the expansion, I
- 45:09think he that's gonna be the bookend to his tenure.
- 45:13Yeah. And possibly the realignment
- 45:16could be the cherry on top. I've I could really see that
- 45:19because, like, it's almost like the realignment happens
- 45:22naturally with expansion. So I could genuinely see it.
- 45:26I really could. Yeah, it I'm, I'm looking
- 45:36forward to a new name in the Commissioner's role.
- 45:43But I just, I really hope it's not one of those situations
- 45:47where, well, be careful what you wish for, because if you somehow
- 45:52end up with somebody that's more, even more radically
- 45:55progressive with the game and it's.
- 45:58Yeah, there's not too much left I.
- 46:02Don't know. I don't know how I'm gonna feel
- 46:04about it. I'll know how I feel about it.
- 46:07But I'm gonna tread lightly. In terms of wanting to rush, I
- 46:14don't forget there. I'm not even, like, fully
- 46:17familiar with what that process is of electing a new
- 46:20commissioner and the voting process or the nominee.
- 46:26I don't even know. I I feel like every time we find
- 46:28out, it's just like, boom, here's who's taking over.
- 46:31And we find out like a couple months before the the prior
- 46:34commissioner steps down, you know?
- 46:37So I don't know what it looks like, but I would assume there's
- 46:41probably some type of protege that's gonna be just cooking in
- 46:47the oven for the next five years to be prepared to take over and
- 46:50take the reins in the same ocean.
- 46:53I mentioned Theo. I would have loved for him to
- 46:56just stay in the office. Yeah, until then.
- 47:02I I genuinely feel I would feel so much better.
- 47:06It would. It would really change things to
- 47:08be able to see someone with baseball either playing or
- 47:14operational experience. Either of those things, I think,
- 47:22would do wonders. I just don't see it.
- 47:30But I like that there's a there's an end date to this and
- 47:33five years is gonna flow fly by, fly by.
- 47:37Yeah, I'm. Just gonna go quick.
- 47:43I mean, I just think, I think back to like when we started the
- 47:46podcast. I'm like, I feel like that was
- 47:48just yesterday, but you go back and you see the things that were
- 47:51happening in like 2018-2019. I'm like, holy cow, that's it's
- 47:55been five years. Yeah.
- 47:58So the record, I will say I'm fully on board with a couple
- 48:01more teams. I don't see a problem going to
- 48:0532. Yeah, I don't hate it.
- 48:07I. Don't really see a problem with
- 48:09alignment or realignment. I think certain things you can't
- 48:15mess with. Cubs, Cardinals, Yankees, Red
- 48:17Sox, Braves, Phillies, Dodgers, Giants, probably all need to
- 48:22remain in that same division. But I think, like the inner
- 48:26division rivalry stuff is fading even more just because of the
- 48:31fact that we play less games against each other now.
- 48:35So I think it's just becoming less and less important.
- 48:38But I don't mind the additional teams, especially when you were
- 48:44saying what last week where you look at the map of all the
- 48:46cities who don't have teams. Yeah, I mean, get some more
- 48:53baseball out there. What's wrong with more baseball?
- 49:03Do you wanna do you wanna talk about this?
- 49:05I know we get a lot of heat for talking at length about this
- 49:10particular topic. Which one?
- 49:16Can we talk about these jerseys real quick?
- 49:18Oh. Boy, sure, I.
- 49:22Didn't want to bring it up, but it's all the you know, they say
- 49:28it's all the rage. This is all the outrage across
- 49:32baseball right now is these horrendous fanatics.
- 49:38Nike jerseys. I don't.
- 49:41Last I checked, they're Nike uniforms with the Nike swoosh on
- 49:45them. But they're produced and
- 49:47manufactured by fanatics who, if I'm if I'm not mistaken, I
- 49:55believe manufacturers the NHL jerseys now.
- 50:00I do not know that interesting. And if I read correctly, I think
- 50:04NHL fans are fed up with. The really.
- 50:07That. Fanatics put yeah dude fanatics.
- 50:09And which I agree with. But the the consensus that I'm.
- 50:16I'm gathering out there is that anything Fanatics touches turns
- 50:21to crap. This.
- 50:22They did the same thing with didn't they?
- 50:27They Or we talked about it. They bought out tops, right?
- 50:30Or so they own tops. They now are the manufacturer
- 50:37for the uniforms they're in. The NHLI think there's even
- 50:39another sport that they're involved in with the jersey
- 50:42production, but it's just garbage man.
- 50:45It's garbage. And the the most egregious
- 50:50element of all of this is the incredibly obvious PR stunt that
- 50:57they put these players on. I know you're you're on social
- 51:00media for the offseason but the just blatant under the table
- 51:07paychecks that they're giving these guys.
- 51:11Mike Trout's on there. Jason Hayward's on there.
- 51:14Corbin Carroll's on there. I I want to say Adly was on
- 51:20there. Adly I'm sorry if I'm wrong.
- 51:22I I feel like I remember seeing something from Adly but it's and
- 51:28they're just like can't wait to embrace this new technology Like
- 51:34change is good. I really like them.
- 51:35They they breathe better. But then you've got other guys
- 51:38that around the league who've been around the league for much
- 51:41longer going yeah now these are crap.
- 51:44This is they're cheap knockoffs and you have you have fans out
- 51:49there going why does it matter like just don't buy the jerseys
- 51:52in. It's like we're not even we're
- 51:54not just talking about the replicas that you can buy at the
- 51:57store. We're talking about the jerseys
- 51:59that they're literally wearing. We're we're rolling these guys
- 52:02out in heat press uniforms. I never thought I'd see the day.
- 52:07Yeah, where we would be rolling these guys out in, I think it's
- 52:12exclusively heat press. Am I?
- 52:14If if I'm not mistaken, I think the front now is heat pressed.
- 52:18The patches are heat pressed. Here's the theory.
- 52:21Here's my theory #1. Fanatics started with
- 52:26memorabilia. This is where they took off,
- 52:29right? This is where they gained their
- 52:30name. Then they got into purchasing
- 52:34tops. Now obviously with the with the
- 52:37deal with jerseys, I think there is this desire to figure out
- 52:47what the margins are for on field uniforms as well as
- 52:52replica jersey uniforms. The closer you make those, you
- 52:58know what I mean? It's like we're not going to,
- 53:00we're not going to spend money creating these jerseys for fans
- 53:03that are affordable. So why don't we drop down the
- 53:06level of quality for the players?
- 53:09Make those a little bit more affordable.
- 53:11Make these closer and more even. Then when you talk about turning
- 53:15it into memorabilia, if they're cheap, if they're crap, players
- 53:18are going to wear through them quicker.
- 53:20And what do you do with worn jerseys?
- 53:22Give them to the Fanatics. Fanatics sells them online as
- 53:27game worn memorabilia. It's just a sick cycle of stuff,
- 53:30but this is what happens when you get companies that just
- 53:33monopolize. You were good at one thing, and
- 53:36then you monopolized and you've taken over too much stuff, and
- 53:39now your brother, your butter's spread too thin.
- 53:41So just stick to what you're good at and leave it alone.
- 53:48Look, I love butter and I love, I love Monopoly both.
- 53:54But I I don't love what fanatics is doing.
- 53:58They just how these got passed through so many channels of
- 54:03approval is mind blowing like how can you we've we've seen the
- 54:08before and after pictures they're it's it's night and day
- 54:14the heat press I'm. Gonna pull them up.
- 54:17The size of it Here, I'll send you the I'll send you the one
- 54:21that I think is the most. Like really does it in the.
- 54:24Most the most telling it was a before and after.
- 54:27Which by the way, glad I brought that up.
- 54:30Brings up a whole another topic. OK, so here we go.
- 54:35I'll send this to you. OK, yeah.
- 54:42There's just so many elements to these jerseys that are garbage.
- 54:47Like, they made the name smaller, They dropped the MLB
- 54:49logo down, which to most people are to a lot of people, maybe
- 54:53doesn't matter. But if you're a fan of jerseys,
- 54:57If you're a fan of just overall aesthetic.
- 55:00Oh boy. It's it looks like the the
- 55:06giveaway jerseys you get when you walk through the ticket
- 55:09gate. It's exactly what that looks
- 55:11like and So what I was what I was alluding to is that I posted
- 55:17this graphic the other day. It was like the side by side and
- 55:20it was making the drowns all over social well initially and
- 55:25then I get this notification that said my post had been
- 55:28removed. Oh.
- 55:31On on Instagram and Facebook, who obviously are, they're both
- 55:36owned together. Sure.
- 55:39And so I do a quick search on Facebook.
- 55:41Real quick. I do a quick little search on
- 55:45Facebook. Could not find a single post
- 55:50about the fanatics. Uniforms, I'm not saying they're
- 55:53they're sweeping the. I'm not saying they're sweeping
- 55:56social media because I'm I I see it still on Twitter and whatnot.
- 56:00I'm just saying I thought it was odd.
- 56:02Yeah, but that's Elon, baby. You can't, can't mess with him.
- 56:06He's gonna let it. He's gonna let whatever needs to
- 56:08be out there, he's gonna. Let it eat.
- 56:09Yeah, he's gonna let it eat. I just thought it was
- 56:12interesting. I I I've been known to to
- 56:14promote various conspiracies. I'm not saying this is a
- 56:17conspiracy. I'm just saying I thought it was
- 56:19interesting. That's all.
- 56:23It's tough. It's real tough.
- 56:28I don't know, man. There's something about I've
- 56:30never I. To be honest with you, I thought
- 56:34when you brought this up, we were gonna talk like the city
- 56:36connects. I didn't even realize it was
- 56:38this bad. It was this bad.
- 56:42This is real bad. So the the.
- 56:48Day we see a letter like come off when a guy dives head first
- 56:52or something. I'm not gonna be happy like with
- 56:58the. We have seen this, We have seen
- 57:01this. In the W the WBC.
- 57:03Remember that. Man, look at the sun coming
- 57:06through the window there. That's nice.
- 57:07That's nice. Look.
- 57:08Yeah, right on my face. How about that?
- 57:12No, we've seen that with, wasn't it Ivaldi didn't.
- 57:18Didn't like his seven come off because, like I think or that
- 57:32May, that may have not fallen off.
- 57:33I think he may have just wore the wrong jersey number.
- 57:36That's what I thought it was like.
- 57:37I've seen like wrong jersey numbers or like a letter not
- 57:40being in there. You know what I mean?
- 57:44Like the I and Cardinals missing or something random like that,
- 57:47which is it's a manufacturer issue, whatever.
- 57:49But like the quality of stuff. The heat press is.
- 57:56So this makes more sense with like the Yankees, like trimming
- 58:00down a little bit on their away jersey.
- 58:04Like the border going away makes it feel like it's less of a
- 58:09Yankees call. But their relationship with Nike
- 58:14is too big. So who's really at fault?
- 58:17Is it more Nike or is it more fanatics?
- 58:20In this scenario, I think it's fanatics because they're just
- 58:23garbage. Nike is also, I think should be
- 58:27held accountable because they're the ones who.
- 58:30Like baseball. So I don't care.
- 58:32I don't care. Yeah.
- 58:33But they're the one trotting, trotting these uniforms out
- 58:35there with their logo on it. So how many of these athletes
- 58:39are you? Or how many of these players
- 58:40that you just mentioned are like Nike athletes like Adly and Mike
- 58:44Trout and. Again, I think Adly was in
- 58:48there. I don't.
- 58:49I don't know for certain. But I saw Corbin Carroll.
- 58:51I saw Jason Hayward, Mike Trout, another one who I know for a
- 58:56fact is a Nike guy. There are some others.
- 59:03An interesting correlation. Yeah, I mean, I get it, like,
- 59:08these guys were most certainly getting commentated for these
- 59:13comments. But I'm like, I mean, I'm not
- 59:18gonna sit here and say, like, I'm cutting ties with Nike over
- 59:20how bad they are, but I'm also like, no, you're not gonna make
- 59:23me say this. This is these are these are
- 59:25atrocious. I wonder if there's a day where
- 59:32our teams just start going rogue.
- 59:33Man, Do it in college football, you know.
- 59:39Some have Nike, some have Adidas, some have Jordan, I
- 59:44wonder. Just go back to Russell, man.
- 59:50Big time. Shout out to Russell.
- 59:53I'll take Majestic back. I'll talk.
- 59:54I'll take Majestic back in a freaking heartbeat.
- 59:57Yeah, I like Majestic. But you want to talk about a
- 59:59durable uniform. Russell can put together a
- 1:00:03durable uniform. I'm a big fan.
- 1:00:08Closing the book here. Just a couple quick items and
- 1:00:11then gonna run through our. Real quick, last thing on the
- 1:00:14jersey thing. Sure, What was?
- 1:00:15I saw that there was only two or 11 remaining teams that hadn't
- 1:00:21had a City Connect jersey, and then now there's two left off of
- 1:00:25that list 'cause there's only 9 coming out this year.
- 1:00:27Did you see that? Yeah, it's the Yankees and the
- 1:00:30A's. They're not gonna commit, at
- 1:00:34least, Yeah, from what I've red, they're not going to commit.
- 1:00:38To. An A city connect when there's
- 1:00:41just the turmoil between the city, the organization, Vegas,
- 1:00:46even, there's just way too much going on.
- 1:00:48So I mean I from that point of view I get it.
- 1:00:50I will say I'm not surprised what the Yankees put up a fight,
- 1:00:56nor do I hate it that much. I think the entire baseball
- 1:01:03world would be like this Sucks whatever they come out with.
- 1:01:07Sure, there's just certain jerseys you don't.
- 1:01:11You don't touch. You don't need to touch.
- 1:01:17I mean, do you think it's less or do you think it's more of the
- 1:01:20Yankees just saying, hey, don't even bother giving us a call
- 1:01:24about? This.
- 1:01:25That's what I read in the article.
- 1:01:27How how Steinbrenner was like. We haven't even discussed this.
- 1:01:30We got more important things to worry about.
- 1:01:32I don't care about this. I mean, I respect.
- 1:01:34I respect. I respect that.
- 1:01:35Like like I don't care about this.
- 1:01:37Like we're. We've been talking about what,
- 1:01:3928 for how many years now we we gotta worry about that and and.
- 1:01:45Let's just lock a little less of their.
- 1:01:46Uniforms. Don't care so much about this,
- 1:01:52Speaking of. Of the Yankees real quick.
- 1:01:55Did you see? Did you see it?
- 1:01:58Marcus Stroman's rolled out to yesterday's workout in a 2004
- 1:02:03Yankees Opening Day T-shirt. Come get your boy.
- 1:02:08Come get your boy Name. He's.
- 1:02:09Absolutely tone deaf. Come get your boy.
- 1:02:12What is that? Why would you do that?
- 1:02:15Why I'm? Asking you.
- 1:02:17That's so I'm asking you. No, I didn't see it.
- 1:02:19I'm pissed now. That's so dumb. 2004 Opening
- 1:02:27Day. Any other year is fine.
- 1:02:29Any other year? Why not get a 2004 ALCS shirt
- 1:02:34while you're at it? He probably has it.
- 1:02:36Absurd, man. Yeah.
- 1:02:40Jump. It's it's It's just starting
- 1:02:45earlier than I thought it would start.
- 1:02:46It really is. I'm glad I got.
- 1:02:48I'm glad I got the juices going for you there, Stroman Guys.
- 1:02:53Stinks. All right, closing the book here
- 1:02:55super quick. The Giants signed Pablo Sandoval
- 1:03:00to a as a non roster invitee to minor league camp or on a minor
- 1:03:06league deal. I'm sorry, has not played since.
- 1:03:10Let me double check. Here he was in that Dubai
- 1:03:13league, wasn't he? Whatever that was.
- 1:03:16Last played in 2021. What are we doing here?
- 1:03:19I think he was in that Dubai league.
- 1:03:21Yeah, he was. And yeah, no, just another.
- 1:03:25Baseball. United just another guy that's
- 1:03:28you know, aging and probably needs some DH time, so.
- 1:03:31Yeah, right on. That's it.
- 1:03:35Hit the nail on the head. And lastly, I shouldn't we
- 1:03:39should have mentioned it when we were talking about the A's just
- 1:03:42a minute ago, but the apparently Sacramento is the favorites or
- 1:03:48is the front runner I should say to host the A's post lease
- 1:03:54ending with the Coliseum pre move to Vegas.
- 1:03:59But I did hear that there's still talks about a lease
- 1:04:04extension in Oakland at the same time.
- 1:04:08So like there's a Sacramento seemingly like a safety net.
- 1:04:12If that falls through, maybe. Sure.
- 1:04:16I don't know. I'm all done.
- 1:04:17I'm so over it. I'm so over it.
- 1:04:21What a cluster? So over it.
- 1:04:25Let's bring it back to the Yankees.
- 1:04:27Let's close it out here with our unbreakable record segments
- 1:04:32featuring Joe, DiMaggio, Jolt and Joe.
- 1:04:38Now I will say right off the top of all of the unbreakable
- 1:04:44streaks, one that we've covered and two that just exist out
- 1:04:47there in the baseball world. This one feels possible.
- 1:04:53This one feels this one feels possible.
- 1:04:58More so than any of the other ones we've covered, I think.
- 1:05:03Just a little background on Jodi Hall of Famer three time MVP, 13
- 1:05:08time All Star, nine time World Series champion, nine time World
- 1:05:15Series champion, two time batting title champ and the
- 1:05:20Major League Player of the Year. He had a career WAR of 79.1.
- 1:05:24He accumulated 2214 hits, 361 home runs, career batting
- 1:05:29average of 325 and had 1537. Ribbies and also had Marilyn
- 1:05:39Monroe, so I mean, there's a lot of accolades up there.
- 1:05:42And had Marilyn Monroe and stolen MVP, but we'll get into
- 1:05:47that just a little later. 1941, the very season in which he
- 1:05:54stole the MVP. As you, I'm sure you know by
- 1:05:58this point 56 game hit streak has not been touched since.
- 1:06:05I'd want to say the second closest was.
- 1:06:14Who was it? I couldn't even guess.
- 1:06:23Willie Keeler, 45 games back in. I say back in back in 1897, well
- 1:06:35over the span of two years, 1896 and 1897.
- 1:06:43Well, I mean, he had to break somebody's record, but his
- 1:06:47record lasted from May 15th to July 16th.
- 1:06:51He hit four O 8 during that span and surpassed, as I mentioned,
- 1:06:58Willy Keeler's record of 44 games.
- 1:07:04Did you know, Nate that Joe DiMaggio in 1933 also had a
- 1:07:10hitting streak in the PCL of 61 games?
- 1:07:13I. Feel like I heard that?
- 1:07:15Yeah, I forgot about it. He had a knack for streaks, my
- 1:07:18friend. It's.
- 1:07:20Pretty nuts. What's the highest since the
- 1:07:24closest we've gotten? That's a good question.
- 1:07:27Where did that do you remember that kid in college, like 10-12
- 1:07:30years ago? Yes, yeah.
- 1:07:34I think he beat it, didn't he? He in.
- 1:07:37Yeah, I think it's been, I think it's been beaten in college, but
- 1:07:40also I think it's it's been topped in the minors too, has it
- 1:07:44not? I don't know.
- 1:07:46I want to say both levels. I think it's been topped.
- 1:07:50Pete Rose, to answer your question 197844 Games.
- 1:07:56Yeah. One thing I did not know about
- 1:07:59this streak and I should have put the pieces together, but did
- 1:08:04you know that in the middle of this streak was when Lou Gehrig
- 1:08:08passed away? I did not know that.
- 1:08:11I did not. I didn't realize that.
- 1:08:13But if I would have thought about it for any length of time,
- 1:08:15I would have been able to figure that out.
- 1:08:18But as I was digging around, came across that he on June 3rd
- 1:08:25hit in his 20th straight game, which was a day out.
- 1:08:30Right. June 2nd is is Lou Gehrig day.
- 1:08:33Yeah, June 2nd sounds right. A day after Gehrig passed away,
- 1:08:37he had his 20th straight hit. Some Nuggets here from the
- 1:08:44streak. I thought this was interesting
- 1:08:49as as with any streak like this, you wonder like how close was it
- 1:08:53to crumbling at any given point throughout the streak.
- 1:08:57The closest call came on May 30th when Joe DiMaggio singled
- 1:09:01in the 9th inning against Boston's Earl Johnson.
- 1:09:03He extended it five times in the 7th inning and seven times in
- 1:09:07the 8th inning. I'm sick cutting.
- 1:09:11It close. Cutting it close.
- 1:09:13And then I was reading. They asked him about it, like
- 1:09:15why? Like why he wasn't letting the
- 1:09:19pressure get to him at least letting like making it known
- 1:09:22publicly that it was getting to him and he was like, he should
- 1:09:25really only start to worry when you're not hitting.
- 1:09:27And I was like, I I respect, I I respect the crap out of that
- 1:09:34quote. So good for Jody in terms of
- 1:09:39strikeouts. His first strikeout didn't come
- 1:09:41until his 61st plate appearance during the Streak and did not
- 1:09:45strike out a single time in the last 149 plate appearances.
- 1:09:50Of the streak, just different baseball would.
- 1:09:53Ultimately go 197 plate appearances between strikeouts.
- 1:09:59Different all. The DiMaggio family, also, it's
- 1:10:02worth noting, just seemed to have a thing for streaks because
- 1:10:05his brother Dom had a hitting streak in 49 of 34 consecutive
- 1:10:10games. But that is not the player that
- 1:10:13I want to talk about. We need to talk about Ted
- 1:10:15Williams here real quick 'cause when you look at 1941 as a
- 1:10:19whole, you obviously have the Joe the Joe DiMaggio streak you
- 1:10:23had Ted Williams hitting four O 6 also in that season.
- 1:10:25Could you imagine? Absurd.
- 1:10:27What a great year of baseball. What a.
- 1:10:29Great year of baseball. Unbelievable.
- 1:10:32This is who he robbed the MVP from.
- 1:10:35Let's just, let's just do a little compare and contrast
- 1:10:38here, OK? Ted Williams had a higher WAR.
- 1:10:43He had more games played, had fewer played appearances.
- 1:10:50Jodi had more hits, which is kind of wild.
- 1:10:56Ted Williams hit four O 6, had fewer hits.
- 1:10:59That's why that makes sense, yeah.
- 1:11:02Ted Williams had more home runs. Ted Williams had a higher
- 1:11:05batting average. Ted Williams had a higher on
- 1:11:07base. Ted Williams had a higher slug.
- 1:11:08Ted Williams had a higher OPS. Ted Williams had a higher OPS
- 1:11:11plus won the batting title. And Jody gets the MVP.
- 1:11:20I'm gonna need you to answer seems.
- 1:11:23Pretty stolen. Seems pretty stolen to me.
- 1:11:28I would concur. OK.
- 1:11:30As long as there's some accountability here.
- 1:11:32I just needed that. I needed that to be to be to be
- 1:11:35known. All in all, I think bringing it
- 1:11:42back to the the beginning, is there another streak you can
- 1:11:48think of that's at this level of breakability, if you will, hits
- 1:12:00in a season that's that's Ichiro, right?
- 1:12:03What is that 27? What was that?
- 1:12:06That's crazy. Was it 270-2262?
- 1:12:13That's a lot of hits. That's a lot of hits.
- 1:12:16But also you get like a What's the most Luis Riot?
- 1:12:20I feel like I keep coming back to Luis Riot.
- 1:12:22What's the most he's had in the season?
- 1:12:26Because I feel like you get a guy like that, maybe not Luis
- 1:12:29Rice, but a guy like a Luis Rice, he he just comes in and.
- 1:12:33Yeah, and again, like shift being gone, a lot of this stuff
- 1:12:36can be reintroduced. This style of play can get a
- 1:12:39little more popular. So the most hits he had in a
- 1:12:44season was last year at two O 3. So 59 hits short.
- 1:12:50So, like, that's gonna that would require a heck of a
- 1:12:53season, 'cause I think we were just talking all last year about
- 1:12:57you. Talk about like Ichiro was in
- 1:12:59probably the last era of horses when it comes to starting
- 1:13:05pitchers, where you know you're getting three at bats against
- 1:13:08them. True, true.
- 1:13:10And there was maybe only one guy in the bullpen that was chucking
- 1:13:1395 or above. Now everybody in the bullpen
- 1:13:17does that. Now you're lucky to get 3 plate
- 1:13:19appearances against a starter. So like the.
- 1:13:22I think the difficulty of that, I would say pitching has
- 1:13:26probably gotten harder even since Ichiro, definitely since
- 1:13:31Jodi, like the quality of pitching has gone up.
- 1:13:37But of the streaks that we've talked about, or of the records
- 1:13:40we've talked about, it seems like this one could be the most
- 1:13:44doable. And I would, honestly, it would
- 1:13:48be fun to see. It would be fun to see.
- 1:13:52It'd be really, really cool. It'd be very like Judge Esque
- 1:13:56where you're tuning in each night to see if it happens.
- 1:13:59That's, I mean that's the most recent example we have of what
- 1:14:02that would look like, right? You've done the beat the streak
- 1:14:08before right? Like the I've.
- 1:14:09Never made it past like 4 so. Which when I when I started
- 1:14:14trying, when I when I started trying doing that, I realized
- 1:14:18I'm like, if it's this hard and I have the ability to pick
- 1:14:21anybody I want, it's nuts. I know we're sitting here
- 1:14:26talking about like, yeah, it's it's doable.
- 1:14:28Like it could be broken it it could.
- 1:14:31But I don't want it to be lost that, like this is still a feat
- 1:14:36in and of itself. Like it's a big feat.
- 1:14:38This is some tough, can't imagine still robbed him.
- 1:14:44Still robbed Ted Williams with the MVP though.
- 1:14:46But. It's fine.
- 1:14:47I'm, I'm struggling to see 56 on base streak, much less a hit
- 1:14:53streak. You know, you guys being able to
- 1:14:56walk or get on base in any way. It's like I don't even see how
- 1:14:59that could happen. What is that streak yet?
- 1:15:08I'm curious on base game streak. Can't be that much higher,
- 1:15:16right? The man whose MVP was robbed
- 1:15:19from him blind, Ted Williams, holds the overall record for
- 1:15:22consecutive games, reaching base with 84 in 19. 49 It's a lot
- 1:15:30higher. Give Ted Williams the respect
- 1:15:34he's due. Unbelievable.
- 1:15:36I don't think he gets disrespected.
- 1:15:38Do you think these writers just voted for Joe D in hopes that
- 1:15:42maybe they could woo Marilyn Monroe or something?
- 1:15:44Like, sure. How do you look at this and go,
- 1:15:47yeah, Joe D is our guy, 100%. Come on, that's.
- 1:15:49Exactly how it went down. Tell me I'm wrong.
- 1:15:54I don't think you're wrong. Unbelievable.
- 1:15:57Well, I guess it all depends on when they were seeing each other
- 1:15:59trying. To figure out, Joe D might be
- 1:16:01the ugliest baseball player of all.
- 1:16:04Time. I didn't want to say how.
- 1:16:05Did he pull that off? I didn't want to say it.
- 1:16:08I was gonna leave that to you. As the It's all about status.
- 1:16:12That's it, kids. Be good at baseball.
- 1:16:16That's it, dude, 'cause that guy is busted.

- 1:16:40I like it. It's finally getting here, man.
- 1:16:46It's finally. Yeah, I'm getting there.
- 1:16:47I'm getting there. I know I've been flip floppy.
- 1:16:51I sense a Snell or Montgomery signing before our next episode.
- 1:16:54Yeah, I agree It it has to happen like we're.
- 1:16:57Yeah. Zoos need to if games are
- 1:17:00starting this weekend, like, you're gonna need to get them
- 1:17:02locked in somewhere. Like somehow?
- 1:17:05Let's let's get wild. Have to be saying something
- 1:17:08similar. Feel like their wives have to be
- 1:17:10like, OK, let's go ahead and get settled into a city.
- 1:17:14Or just get out of the house because I'm tired of right.
- 1:17:17Just time. To go to work.
- 1:17:18With you talking about how much you miss baseball, just go sign
- 1:17:22with somebody and be done. Yeah, all right.
- 1:17:25That's all I got. Now that we dropping the
- 1:17:27episode, it's 100% coming. Yep, probably within the next 24
