- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:05Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:09Speaker 1: Kate Torber and coming up on today's show, Ashley Bynes
- 0:12Speaker 1: questions the integrity of a female-led podcast, Nikki Westcott takes
- 0:16Speaker 1: Black Friday marketing to the next level, Indy Clinton's corrective
- 0:20Speaker 1: nose surgery, and Martha Kalafatidis launches a kid's clothing line.
- 0:25Speaker 1: But first, Olivia Rogers has given an insight into the
- 0:28Speaker 1: baby names she likes. Last week, she announced she was
- 0:32Speaker 1: pregnant and she's already teasing her followers with baby names.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I'm loving it. To be honest, I was not surprised
- 0:37Speaker 1: by the tone of these names at all. They are
- 0:41Speaker 1: very classic, traditional. I want to say posty. That's our
- 0:45Speaker 1: word for posh. Posty names. So for boys, she said
- 0:49Speaker 1: she likes Freddie. Rupert Oliver and Oscar love them whilst
- 0:53Speaker 1: for girls she said Minnie Sadie Birdie and Florence I
- 0:58Speaker 1: am surprised that the name Charlotte is not amongst those
- 1:01Speaker 1: names perhaps that is because she wants to save that
- 1:05Speaker 1: as a name yeah because these are names that she
- 1:07Speaker 1: can't use but loves when I saw Sadie I was
- 1:09Speaker 1: like oh okay so she can't use that one because
- 1:11Speaker 1: her friend Michelle Andrews has used that name for her
- 1:14Speaker 1: daughter yeah Michelle Andrews is of course the host of
- 1:16Speaker 1: the shameless podcast Another name I was surprised that wasn't
- 1:19Speaker 1: on the list, which could be another name she may use,
- 1:22Speaker 1: is Alfie. I feel like that's really popular at the
- 1:24Speaker 1: moment and I like Alfie. So Olivia's partner, Hugo, his
- 1:27Speaker 1: last name is Breakie. So we've also got to think
- 1:30Speaker 1: of what might sound good with that last name. I mean, Rogers,
- 1:32Speaker 1: I have to say, Rogers is an easier name for
- 1:35Speaker 1: these names to sound good with. Well, it could be
- 1:37Speaker 1: Rogers Breakie. I mean, they're not actually married. Very true.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I mean, Rupert Rogers, quite a good ring to it.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I'm not a fan of the double R. I think
- 1:46Speaker 1: that's sort of a bit of a tongue tie. Do
- 1:48Speaker 1: you think it's a bit of a cartoon character energy? Yeah,
- 1:51Speaker 1: I do. Charlotte Rogers, Charlotte Brakey. I think actually, I
- 1:54Speaker 1: think if she, judging by the names here of Minnie, Sadie, Birdie,
- 1:58Speaker 1: I reckon it wouldn't be Charlotte, it'd be Lottie. Lottie, yes.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Or Hattie. Oh no, hang on, that's her sister's name.
- 2:05Speaker 1: That's why I'm getting confused. Well, Laura Henshaw, who is
- 2:07Speaker 1: also one of Olivia's friends, is set to give birth
- 2:11Speaker 1: in a couple of weeks. So she's 37 weeks pregnant.
- 2:13Speaker 1: We've just seen online that she's packing her hospital bag now.
- 2:17Speaker 1: But because she's having an elective C-section, I'm guessing that
- 2:20Speaker 1: she'll give birth at 39 weeks, so in two weeks' time.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I wonder what she's going to call her son and
- 2:25Speaker 1: whether she steals one of Olivia's names. That's the tricky
- 2:29Speaker 1: part when you have friends at all giving birth because
- 2:31Speaker 1: people generally don't want to share the name they've selected.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I mean, I was pretty open. I was just telling everyone.
- 2:37Speaker 1: It is a good way of dibsing the name though. Yeah,
- 2:40Speaker 1: putting your authority over it.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:42Speaker 1: We did have a situation with one of our friends
- 2:44Speaker 1: where her and Amy were giving birth weeks apart and
- 2:48Speaker 1: our friend's like, oh, Amy, I'll just share the first
- 2:51Speaker 1: letter with you. And it ended up being an H,
- 2:53Speaker 1: like Harry. And they're like, oh, what about the second letter?
- 2:55Speaker 1: It ended up being an A. And they're like, what
- 2:57Speaker 1: about the last letter? And it was a Y. Fortunately,
- 3:00Speaker 1: it turns out the babies are called Harry and Harvey.
- 3:03Speaker 1: So there was no need to cross the name off
- 3:05Speaker 1: the list, but it was a very tense moment. Got
- 3:06Speaker 1: to love all the Harveys out there due to Harvey
- 3:08Speaker 1: Specter from Suits. It's such a cute name. I love it.
- 3:11Speaker 3: They don't even have the full facts. They're gossiping about
- 3:14Speaker 3: my businesses, when I go away.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Ashley Bynes has questioned the integrity of an Australian female-led
- 3:21Speaker 1: pop culture podcast after she discovered the show had reported
- 3:25Speaker 1: on her online behavior. The OG fitness influencer accused the
- 3:29Speaker 1: podcast of making money from gossiping about other people's lives. Kate,
- 3:33Speaker 1: can you tell us more? Well, funnily enough, the podcast
- 3:36Speaker 1: in question is the one listeners are tuning into right now.
- 3:40Speaker 1: So Ashley has taken a listen to Outspoken and isn't
- 3:44Speaker 1: happy about the coverage. Now, while she didn't name Outspoken,
- 3:48Speaker 1: it's clear that that's who she was referring to, so
- 3:50Speaker 1: much so that a lovely listener shared Ashi's comments in
- 3:53Speaker 1: our Facebook community. Now, Ashi made the comments on her
- 3:57Speaker 1: own podcast called She Rises in an episode entitled Ashi
- 4:01Speaker 1: vs the Internet, the things people actually send me. She
- 4:04Speaker 1: then cut up a grab from her episode to promo
- 4:06Speaker 1: it on social media. Let's take a listen to some
- 4:09Speaker 1: of what she said.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Okay, so recently I got sent a podcast. It's a
- 4:14Speaker 3: gossip podcast, which I fucking hate listening to these things
- 4:17Speaker 3: because a lot of the time, and I have listened
- 4:19Speaker 3: to a couple lately that I've been sent, they don't
- 4:21Speaker 3: even have the full facts. They're gossiping about my businesses,
- 4:24Speaker 3: when I go away, so many things. And I'm like,
- 4:26Speaker 3: that's not actually the truth. Where did you spin that from?
- 4:29Speaker 3: Or you're missing out so many parts of the story.
- 4:31Speaker 3: just to make it sound worse.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 4:34Speaker 3: I really struggle to understand. Well, from a business perspective,
- 4:37Speaker 3: I get why they do it. Yeah. But from like
- 4:38Speaker 3: an integrity point of view, I'm like, you're literally making
- 4:41Speaker 3: money off gossiping off people's lives and not even having
- 4:43Speaker 3: all the true facts, but you're spinning things to make
- 4:45Speaker 3: things sound bad and to put the woman down so
- 4:47Speaker 3: people click your content.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Now, instead of discussing the topic at hand though, she
- 4:53Speaker 1: focused on the brief discussion that we had at the
- 4:56Speaker 1: start of the segment, which is where we address the
- 4:58Speaker 1: backlash that Ashley had been receiving about going on a
- 5:01Speaker 1: kid-free holiday. Let's take a listen to what Ashley said.
- 5:06Speaker 3: The first thing that they were talking about was how
- 5:08Speaker 3: I'm always going away and poor Steve's stuck at home
- 5:11Speaker 3: with the kids.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Poor Steve.
- 5:12Speaker 3: I was like, wow, that's so interesting. And one of
- 5:15Speaker 3: the hosts does have children and I'm guessing the other
- 5:18Speaker 3: one doesn't. But I was like, Steve goes away too.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Because they were saying, oh, poor Steve, like never gets
- 5:23Speaker 3: to go away. I'm like, he goes away all the time.
- 5:25Speaker 3: I just don't talk about it because I don't feel safe.
- 5:27Speaker 3: People knowing that I'm not at home with a man. Yeah.
- 5:29Speaker 3: I feel unsafe without him in the house. Yeah.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Now, Ashley went on to say that Steve had recently
- 5:35Speaker 1: been on a trip for America for 10 days and
- 5:37Speaker 1: had just gotten back from a holiday to Thailand for
- 5:40Speaker 1: another 10 days and that he goes on little work
- 5:42Speaker 1: trips here and there. She went on also that he's
- 5:45Speaker 1: a very private person and he doesn't ever want to
- 5:48Speaker 1: appear on camera, sort of alluding to that's why she
- 5:50Speaker 1: hasn't also touched on these trips that he goes on.
- 5:53Speaker 1: What Ashley said really got me riled up because I
- 5:55Speaker 1: am all for people sharing their opinions on podcasts. And
- 5:59Speaker 1: obviously we have spoken about Ashley's actions. So she is
- 6:02Speaker 1: well within her rights to talk about ours. but not
- 6:05Speaker 1: when it's factually incorrect. Because as you touched on at
- 6:08Speaker 1: the start of the segment in question, we briefly spoke
- 6:11Speaker 1: about how her followers had criticized her and her husband
- 6:14Speaker 1: for going on a kid-free holiday. Ironically though, we defended
- 6:18Speaker 1: her decision. So basically how the segment went down was
- 6:22Speaker 1: we gave a little bit of a background into the story,
- 6:25Speaker 1: that being that Ashley had defended herself on three occasions
- 6:29Speaker 1: for holidaying without her children. We then shed our opinion.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Let's take a listen. Amy, how do you feel about
- 6:36Speaker 1: Ashley leaving her kids at home? Well, they do have
- 6:39Speaker 1: a father that is looking after them in those examples
- 6:42Speaker 1: that you provided. So I see nothing wrong with her
- 6:44Speaker 1: actually going and having a holiday with her friends. I mean,
- 6:47Speaker 1: mums do need a break as well. It's actually quite
- 6:50Speaker 1: ironic because Ashley said, oh, I think one of the
- 6:53Speaker 1: hosts has a child, but the other one doesn't. Factually,
- 6:56Speaker 1: if we're talking about facts, you guys both have kids
- 6:58Speaker 1: and you both brought that point of view together. about
- 7:01Speaker 1: your own experience with your children forward.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:03Speaker 1: I mean, I did say during the discussion that I
- 7:06Speaker 1: understood the criticism more this time around because both her
- 7:10Speaker 1: and Steve were on a holiday away from their children.
- 7:12Speaker 1: But ultimately, I thought the backlash was unfair. And then
- 7:16Speaker 1: the discussion turned more personal and we used Ashley's situation
- 7:20Speaker 1: as a bit of a hook to discuss, oh, would
- 7:22Speaker 1: you go on a holiday without your kids? And at
- 7:24Speaker 1: the time, Amy said, yes. And I said, no, but
- 7:28Speaker 1: that was all personal preference. And I wrapped up saying
- 7:30Speaker 1: I was pleased that Steve got the call up for
- 7:32Speaker 1: the Euro trip after Ashi documented so many holidays of
- 7:35Speaker 1: hers away. I mean, I think people are entitled to
- 7:37Speaker 1: have a bit of a debate about child-free holidays or
- 7:40Speaker 1: not and share their differing opinions. I don't necessarily think
- 7:43Speaker 1: there was anything wrong with that. I also really want
- 7:45Speaker 1: to talk about Ashi's comments regarding our integrity. So as
- 7:50Speaker 1: a refresher, she accused us of not having any and
- 7:53Speaker 1: making money off gossiping about people's lives. without having the
- 7:56Speaker 1: true facts. And this is something I've noticed lately. There
- 7:59Speaker 1: is an increase in Outspoken getting labelled as this gossip podcast.
- 8:04Speaker 1: And ironically, the label mostly comes from people who aren't
- 8:07Speaker 1: happy that they featured on an episode. And I really
- 8:10Speaker 1: think it is a way for people to invalidate what
- 8:13Speaker 1: we have said and also really denigrate what we do.
- 8:15Speaker 1: I mean, ultimately, Outspoken is not a gossip podcast. We
- 8:19Speaker 1: are qualified journalists and we provide commentary and analysis on
- 8:23Speaker 1: pop culture stories. The stories that we discuss stem from
- 8:27Speaker 1: things that have happened in the news, interviews, public statements,
- 8:30Speaker 1: events that influencers have attended, and information people have willingly
- 8:34Speaker 1: shared publicly about themselves. I hate to break it to people,
- 8:37Speaker 1: but gossip is not public information that everyone already knows.
- 8:40Speaker 1: I mean, we also don't feature blind items or private stories,
- 8:44Speaker 1: which a lot of gossip Instagram accounts do do. I mean,
- 8:48Speaker 1: on a rare occasion, maybe we will reference a DM
- 8:51Speaker 1: or a tip off from a listener that But we
- 8:53Speaker 1: will always fact check those. I mean, in no basis
- 8:56Speaker 1: does that actually act as the basis of the show, though.
- 8:58Speaker 1: I mean, maybe 5% gossip sometimes. And I just find
- 9:03Speaker 1: it ironic that Ashi accused us of putting women down
- 9:06Speaker 1: to create clicks when her labelling our podcast as gossip
- 9:10Speaker 1: shows off her internalised misogyny, if anything. I mean, unfortunately,
- 9:14Speaker 1: there is a trend where female-led pop culture podcasts are
- 9:17Speaker 1: getting labelled as gossip podcasts, whereas when men do the
- 9:20Speaker 1: exact same thing, it's called commentary and analysis. I mean,
- 9:23Speaker 1: if our podcast was hosted by three men and focused
- 9:27Speaker 1: on something like sport or politics, there is no way
- 9:30Speaker 1: the discussions would be labelled gossip. I mean, why are
- 9:33Speaker 1: men not gossiping about AFL players when they discuss trade
- 9:36Speaker 1: week or when they discuss what's going on at a club?
- 9:40Speaker 1: I just think that the word gossip is now used
- 9:42Speaker 1: in a very interchangeable way whenever women talk about celebrities
- 9:46Speaker 1: or it's a light and fun show. But essentially, the
- 9:49Speaker 1: word gossip means that you're making stuff up and you're
- 9:51Speaker 1: spreading lies and rumors about people. I mean, the irony
- 9:55Speaker 1: is not lost on me that the bulk of our
- 9:57Speaker 1: conversations comes from in that public figures and influencers put
- 10:03Speaker 1: out about themselves to the public. I also think that
- 10:06Speaker 1: Ashi is trying to label us as this gossip podcast
- 10:09Speaker 1: so people don't take what we're saying about her businesses seriously. Oh, definitely.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I think it stems from maybe a conversation we had
- 10:15Speaker 1: regarding her podcast tour, which subsequently got cancelled. due to
- 10:19Speaker 1: what appeared to be a lack of interest in it.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I always find it interesting when influencers are so unwilling
- 10:25Speaker 1: to name our podcast because they often make it very
- 10:28Speaker 1: clear that that's the podcast they're referring to. Do you
- 10:31Speaker 1: think it's in a bid to not direct attention to it?
- 10:34Speaker 1: I think one of the main reasons that influencers don't
- 10:36Speaker 1: name us is because they essentially don't want to drive
- 10:38Speaker 1: their hundreds of thousands of followers to our account. So
- 10:43Speaker 1: they don't want to be helping our podcast out and
- 10:45Speaker 1: promoting us. Particularly if we have said something that they
- 10:48Speaker 1: don't agree with or don't want out there. People pay
- 10:51Speaker 1: big money to get a mention on their channel. So
- 10:53Speaker 1: they're hardly going to be mentioning someone who they essentially
- 10:57Speaker 1: dislike and don't agree with. In a way, I find
- 10:59Speaker 1: it a little bit denigrating not to even name the
- 11:01Speaker 1: podcast as if it's so beneath them. Yeah, but it's
- 11:04Speaker 1: also because then they can say whatever they like about
- 11:07Speaker 1: it and no one can then go and fact check
- 11:08Speaker 1: if they don't actually know what the show is that
- 11:10Speaker 1: they're talking about. Oh, I definitely think there's an element
- 11:12Speaker 1: of that. But I do think, you know, we've worked
- 11:14Speaker 1: on this podcast for over six years. I think it's
- 11:17Speaker 1: coming to seven years and it is an established podcast now.
- 11:21Speaker 1: I mean, I'm very proud of how we've grown the show.
- 11:24Speaker 1: We've actually just hit 17 million downloads. So I think
- 11:28Speaker 1: when Ashley Bynes talks about our podcast, she should name it.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Your friend had a cubby or there was a cubby
- 11:34Speaker 2: at the park.
- 11:35Speaker 1: But also the word cubby, like when you hear it,
- 11:37Speaker 1: doesn't it just instantly take you back to that place?
- 11:42Speaker 1: Martha Kalafatidis is set to launch her kids' clothing line
- 11:45Speaker 1: this week. The former Mavs contestant made the announcement at
- 11:49Speaker 1: the Darling Shine podcast live show. Now, the launch comes
- 11:52Speaker 1: off the back of Martha exiting the fashion brand she
- 11:55Speaker 1: started with her two best friends, Kate. Yeah, earlier this year,
- 11:58Speaker 1: Martha surprised her followers when she revealed she was no
- 12:01Speaker 1: longer a part of Lemwear. So she launched the brand
- 12:05Speaker 1: in 2023 with her two best friends, Maya and Yana. Now,
- 12:08Speaker 1: the name of the brand actually stemmed from a nickname
- 12:11Speaker 1: the trio were given years ago by their friends. So
- 12:14Speaker 1: it's clear just how close these women were. Now, after
- 12:17Speaker 1: posting a lot about the brand, suddenly there was radio silence,
- 12:21Speaker 1: which led fans to ask Martha what was going on. Now,
- 12:24Speaker 1: in March, she addressed the rumors in an Instagram Q & A.
- 12:28Speaker 1: To begin with, Martha was very straightforward with her response.
- 12:31Speaker 1: So when she was asked if she was still involved
- 12:33Speaker 1: with Lem, she simply wrote, no. She then decided to
- 12:37Speaker 1: delete that Instagram story and responded, unfortunately, no. Lusting over
- 12:41Speaker 1: this boxy pink shirt, I wish the brand all the
- 12:43Speaker 1: best moving forward. actually never heard of her brand before,
- 12:48Speaker 1: which maybe shows why it's not doing too well. No,
- 12:51Speaker 1: that's the opposite. It was doing really well. It was
- 12:53Speaker 1: pretty popular. Well, that being said, Martha Califatidis did block us.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I think it was a couple of years ago. It
- 12:59Speaker 1: was back in the day. Yeah. I actually can't remember. Oh,
- 13:02Speaker 1: I think it was because we discussed a clip where
- 13:07Speaker 1: she mimed the N word.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Oh yes.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Yes.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I think that was in 2020.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, no, Lem is actually really popular. Like they
- 13:15Speaker 1: are known for kind of creating quite vintage pieces. They
- 13:20Speaker 1: are renowned for their jorts. They are actually pretty cool.
- 13:22Speaker 1: There's a lot of TikToks out about them. So it
- 13:25Speaker 1: was pretty big that she exited the brand. Now, following
- 13:28Speaker 1: the public announcement on an Instagram story. Martha and the
- 13:32Speaker 1: brand both unfollowed each other on social media. Wow. Now,
- 13:36Speaker 1: while Martha has never shared why she left the brand,
- 13:39Speaker 1: there is a lot of speculation that she had a
- 13:40Speaker 1: falling out with her friends, but she has never spoken
- 13:43Speaker 1: on the matter nor have the friends. Well, during this
- 13:46Speaker 1: Q & A, she also shared that she was interested
- 13:49Speaker 1: in starting a kids clothing brand and she finally confirmed
- 13:53Speaker 1: the news at the Darling Shine live show. Now, the
- 13:56Speaker 1: brand is called Cubby House, which I think is a
- 13:58Speaker 1: really cute name. And it was inspired by the nostalgic
- 14:01Speaker 1: feeling of hanging out in a cubby house as a kid.
- 14:04Speaker 1: You can tell how much thought and effort has been
- 14:06Speaker 1: put into this brand, which I found really refreshing. It's
- 14:10Speaker 1: not an instance where Martha's just slapping her name on something.
- 14:13Speaker 1: She described the collection as her life's work. And in
- 14:16Speaker 1: a Q & A on the brand's Instagram, she spoke
- 14:19Speaker 1: through all of the different decisions she had made to
- 14:21Speaker 1: ensure the clothes were comfortable and functional for kids. She
- 14:25Speaker 1: also touched on how she was really focused on reducing
- 14:29Speaker 1: the brand's environmental footprint. So for example, everything is packaged
- 14:33Speaker 1: in tissue paper rather than plastic and she isn't doing
- 14:35Speaker 1: swing tags. I really like that. I feel like a
- 14:38Speaker 1: lot of influencers know though that they've got to do
- 14:40Speaker 1: it because as soon as any influencer launches a brand,
- 14:44Speaker 1: So many eyes are on them and there is so
- 14:46Speaker 1: much judgment. It didn't feel performative though. It felt like
- 14:49Speaker 1: she was genuinely passionate about it and that's why I
- 14:51Speaker 1: think it's going to be very successful. I mean Cubby
- 14:53Speaker 1: House's Instagram already has 35,000 followers. I think they're going
- 14:56Speaker 1: to sell out instantly. Well, she said that 90% of
- 14:59Speaker 1: the kids' clothes are going to be unisex, but she
- 15:01Speaker 1: couldn't quite resist adding some cute girl stuff. I assume
- 15:04Speaker 1: that's after she discovered that she's having a daughter. What's
- 15:06Speaker 1: pretty funny because Martha and Michael were sharing behind the
- 15:09Speaker 1: scenes photos of developing the brand. And they shared quite
- 15:13Speaker 1: a few photos of Looch modelling the girls' clothes and
- 15:15Speaker 1: he just looked so cute. They are absolutely stunning clothes.
- 15:19Speaker 1: All I can think about is the collaboration that they
- 15:21Speaker 1: recently did with Cotton On for their Christmas campaign. So
- 15:24Speaker 1: last year Cotton On did a campaign with Indie Clinton
- 15:28Speaker 1: and their pyjamas, they had kids' pyjamas and also adults'
- 15:31Speaker 1: Christmas pyjamas. Family sets.
- 15:33Speaker 2: They.
- 15:34Speaker 1: sold out immediately. I have some of them. They were
- 15:37Speaker 1: so cute. I remember we raced into the store to
- 15:39Speaker 1: get them. But this year Martha and her family launched
- 15:42Speaker 1: the campaign and unfortunately the designs were awful. They literally
- 15:46Speaker 1: looked like bowling outfits. Well, they're being chucked out in
- 15:49Speaker 1: the Black Friday sales at the moment. I can't actually
- 15:51Speaker 1: find a good pair of kids' pyjamas because I wanted
- 15:53Speaker 1: to get some for Luca. But I was like, I
- 15:55Speaker 1: don't even want these. No, they didn't even look like pajamas.
- 15:58Speaker 1: They potentially look like clothes you could wear out or
- 16:00Speaker 1: to go bowling. I mean, this is no shade to
- 16:02Speaker 1: Cotton On because I actually love a lot of Cotton
- 16:04Speaker 1: On's clothes, but it was just really disappointing because it
- 16:06Speaker 1: was such a hit last year. And I wonder if
- 16:09Speaker 1: Martha had anything to do with the design. That's what
- 16:11Speaker 1: I was going to say. I don't think she did.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I think Cotton On just pick a famous family to
- 16:16Speaker 1: be the faces of that campaign. I wonder if she
- 16:18Speaker 1: wants to distance herself a bit from the campaign to
- 16:20Speaker 1: be like, look, I didn't design these clothes. And I
- 16:23Speaker 1: wonder if it also made her a little bit worried
- 16:25Speaker 1: leading into this brand thinking, oh my God, well, the
- 16:27Speaker 1: clothes didn't sell out this year. How's my brand going
- 16:29Speaker 1: to go? I mean, I think there's a difference between
- 16:31Speaker 1: being a face for a campaign and actually manufacturing the
- 16:34Speaker 1: clothes for yourself. I mean, Martha has been working on
- 16:37Speaker 1: this clothing brand for the last 10 months. The original
- 16:39Speaker 1: plan was to actually share every detail of the process,
- 16:43Speaker 1: but Martha falling pregnant and suffering with HG through a
- 16:46Speaker 1: spanner in the work. So the family was actually in
- 16:48Speaker 1: China on a trip to visit the brand's manufacturer in
- 16:51Speaker 1: July and when she was struck down with HG symptoms.
- 16:55Speaker 1: And she shared photos of her doing all these fittings
- 16:57Speaker 1: with Looch while she was hooked up to an IV drip. Now,
- 17:01Speaker 1: Michael said that Martha was then bedridden for two months.
- 17:04Speaker 1: And when she was finally able to get up and
- 17:07Speaker 1: sit on the couch, she was given the option to
- 17:08Speaker 1: push back the launch to 2026. But he said she
- 17:12Speaker 1: wasn't having any of it. So they have planned to
- 17:14Speaker 1: launch this week. I have to say, mums are just remarkable,
- 17:17Speaker 1: aren't they?
- 17:18Speaker 2: They are.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I actually think the HG story... might actually prompt people
- 17:23Speaker 1: to purchase from this brand that may not have to
- 17:26Speaker 1: support Martha. Well, Martha is currently 23 weeks pregnant, but
- 17:30Speaker 1: she says she feels about 39 weeks pregnant. I feel
- 17:33Speaker 1: so sorry for her, particularly with it starting to get
- 17:35Speaker 1: hot now. How amazing that she managed to attend the
- 17:38Speaker 1: Darling Shine live show. She said around the 18 week mark,
- 17:41Speaker 1: she began feeling well enough to leave the house for
- 17:43Speaker 1: short periods of time. but the nausea is relentless. I
- 17:47Speaker 1: was listening to Amber from Influencer Updates Live about the
- 17:50Speaker 1: Darling Shine podcast. I really enjoyed all of the insights.
- 17:53Speaker 1: And she was saying that both Chloe and Martha were
- 17:55Speaker 1: struggling during the majority of the show with reflux. And
- 17:59Speaker 1: I was like, that is the worst feeling. I hope
- 18:01Speaker 1: they were popping some lifesavers. Oh, that is horrible. It's
- 18:04Speaker 1: just giving me PTSD from that time. Now, Martha has
- 18:09Speaker 1: dropped a few baby name clues. So Back when she
- 18:13Speaker 1: was pregnant with Looch, she said that she was convinced
- 18:15Speaker 1: she was having a girl and she was set on
- 18:17Speaker 1: the name Billie. So Billie Brunelli, she said it had
- 18:20Speaker 1: a cute ring to it. Do we reckon she doesn't
- 18:22Speaker 1: like that now that Steph Clare Smith's taken the name Billie? Well,
- 18:25Speaker 1: she said that when she told her mum about the name,
- 18:27Speaker 1: her face was just like gave it away. She did
- 18:30Speaker 1: not like it. She said she also loves Bobby and Meadow,
- 18:33Speaker 1: but doesn't think she'll use any of those names and
- 18:35Speaker 1: doesn't have a name that she's leaning towards at the moment.
- 18:38Speaker 1: So she asked her followers for inspo. What, Bobby for
- 18:40Speaker 1: a girl? Yeah, Chloe Fisher's daughter is called Bobby. Oh, okay.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I didn't know it was a girl's name.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I'm just having a flashback. I literally had a dream
- 18:47Speaker 1: last night that Amy came in and told us that
- 18:50Speaker 1: Harry's name was Bobby. And I'm like, hang on, but
- 18:52Speaker 1: it's Harry. What, that she changed it? Well, I don't
- 18:54Speaker 1: even know.
- 18:54Speaker 3: You know what?
- 18:54Speaker 1: It doesn't even make sense. She's jumped on the influencer train.
- 18:59Speaker 1: He's Bobby and he's Billy. I'm not ready isn't a feeling.
- 19:04Speaker 1: It's actually a decision. Nikki Westcott and Lucy Jackson have
- 19:08Speaker 1: taken Black Friday marketing to the next level. On Wednesday,
- 19:13Speaker 1: the Happy Hour hosts asked their followers to sign up
- 19:15Speaker 1: to find out the gender of Nikki's babies. This really
- 19:19Speaker 1: threw me because I remember listening to Nikki's birth announcement
- 19:23Speaker 1: podcast and she's like, no, no, I'm not going to
- 19:25Speaker 1: find out. It's going to be a secret. I'll find
- 19:26Speaker 1: out when the baby's born. And I was like, hang on, what? Yeah,
- 19:29Speaker 1: I was really confused too. So on Wednesday, Nikki shared
- 19:33Speaker 1: a video appearing to do a gender reveal. And in
- 19:36Speaker 1: the vision, she was standing in front of Lucy and
- 19:38Speaker 1: their Jagger and Stone staff with a confetti cannon. So
- 19:41Speaker 1: the team proceeded to count Nikki down and she let
- 19:44Speaker 1: off the cannon and the whole team erupted in celebration.
- 19:48Speaker 1: But as all influencers do, as soon as the cannon erupted,
- 19:52Speaker 1: it switched to black and white before the gender was revealed.
- 19:56Speaker 1: And in the caption, Nikki wrote, tomorrow at 8am, sign
- 19:59Speaker 1: up via link in bio. Now this video attracted a
- 20:03Speaker 1: huge response. So at the time of recording, it has
- 20:06Speaker 1: over 318,000 views. 4,000 likes and over 600 send-ons. I
- 20:13Speaker 1: have to admit, I saw this video when I was
- 20:15Speaker 1: on the toilet. I feel like that's where you do
- 20:16Speaker 1: a lot of this scrolling, particularly as a mother. Or
- 20:18Speaker 1: as OG listeners will know, in the shower. We like
- 20:21Speaker 1: to scroll in the shower. I don't do that anymore.
- 20:22Speaker 1: I don't have the time. I feel like I've damaged
- 20:24Speaker 1: my phone from doing it. So I do regret doing it. Anyway,
- 20:27Speaker 1: when I saw this video, I honed in on Lucy's
- 20:31Speaker 1: reaction because I thought her face would give away the gender.
- 20:35Speaker 1: And Lucy looked ecstatic so I was thinking this is
- 20:38Speaker 1: definitely a girl I don't know it's had girl vibes
- 20:40Speaker 1: why do you think Lucy would be ecstatic if it
- 20:42Speaker 1: was a girl because I feel like as her best
- 20:44Speaker 1: friend they always do dinner out with the girls and
- 20:47Speaker 1: drinks with the girls I mean they have a whole
- 20:49Speaker 1: female-led team at Jagger and Stone I just get the
- 20:52Speaker 1: vibe that they think a girl would fit more into
- 20:54Speaker 1: their lifestyle so that means Nikki's definitely having a boy
- 20:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna put it out there oh yeah Well, it
- 21:01Speaker 1: seemed like Nikki's followers agreed with my sentiment because one
- 21:04Speaker 1: follower wrote, it's giving girl energy, which received 93 likes,
- 21:08Speaker 1: while another said, it's got to be a girl if
- 21:10Speaker 1: it's got Lucy reacting like that. Now, later that night
- 21:15Speaker 1: after seeing the video, for some reason I kept thinking
- 21:17Speaker 1: about it and I was like, wasn't that a bit
- 21:19Speaker 1: weird that Nikki's husband, Ollie Frost, wasn't part of the announcement?
- 21:23Speaker 1: It's probably best for Nikki's PR that he's not sort
- 21:25Speaker 1: of front and center either after all of those reports
- 21:28Speaker 1: in the Gold Coast Bulletin about his business dealings. Oh, well,
- 21:31Speaker 1: he has been front and center of her content. But yeah,
- 21:33Speaker 1: I just thought at the time, I'm like, oh, weird
- 21:34Speaker 1: not to have your husband involved. I should have really
- 21:37Speaker 1: known that something was up because the next day Nikki
- 21:40Speaker 1: revealed that the video was all part of a Black
- 21:43Speaker 1: Friday stunt. So she posted the full video, this time
- 21:47Speaker 1: in color, to reveal both pink and blue confetti coming
- 21:50Speaker 1: from the cannon and And at first I was confused.
- 21:53Speaker 1: I was, I tried to zoom up to be like, wait,
- 21:55Speaker 1: is it blue or is it pink? Twins, boy and
- 21:57Speaker 1: a girl. But then Nikki yelled this. Now over the top,
- 22:07Speaker 1: it said 70% off site wide for Jagger and Stone.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Nikki also wrote, it's a dot, dot, dot, dot, dot.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Okay.
- 22:15Speaker 1: But seriously, you guys didn't think I'd actually do a
- 22:17Speaker 1: gender reveal with my staff and not my husband, did you?
- 22:20Speaker 1: Biggest sale ever on Jagger and Stone site. Entry via
- 22:23Speaker 1: password only. I'm actually a big fan of this Black
- 22:27Speaker 1: Friday sale announcement because you have to do a lot
- 22:30Speaker 1: to cut through all of the promotion that's out there
- 22:33Speaker 1: at the moment. The fact that they managed to create
- 22:36Speaker 1: so much hype is impressive. And also the fact that
- 22:39Speaker 1: it's 70% off. Yeah, that's huge. We have seen a
- 22:43Speaker 1: lot of brands copying each other this year by doing
- 22:46Speaker 1: these comedic fake apology statements. I got sucked in the
- 22:50Speaker 1: first time. And then when I see them, I'm like, scroll,
- 22:52Speaker 1: couldn't care less. Yeah. See, I actually love that the
- 22:54Speaker 1: girls have done something a bit different because it has
- 22:56Speaker 1: really cut through. The videos have attracted huge send-ons and
- 23:00Speaker 1: huge engagement. I was really curious to see the reaction
- 23:03Speaker 1: in the comment section because the girls are known for
- 23:06Speaker 1: playing tricks on the punters. So one April Fool's Day,
- 23:10Speaker 1: they tricked their listeners that they were shutting down the podcast.
- 23:12Speaker 1: So One follower wrote, just when I think I can't
- 23:15Speaker 1: be caught out by you girls again, dot, dot, dot,
- 23:17Speaker 1: you get me again. Whilst another said, well played ladies.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Others also praised the marketing genius while others like me
- 23:25Speaker 1: said that they were still squinting trying to figure out
- 23:28Speaker 1: what color the confetti was. When I realized this was
- 23:31Speaker 1: a prank, my initial reaction was, God, I hope they
- 23:34Speaker 1: don't get slammed because obviously on the internet these days,
- 23:37Speaker 1: people operate with a lot of sensitivity around fertility, particularly
- 23:42Speaker 1: around pregnancy announcements. Like there is nothing worse you can
- 23:45Speaker 1: do than put up a fake pregnancy reveal. I know
- 23:48Speaker 1: a lot of influencers got slammed around April Fool's Day
- 23:50Speaker 1: doing that. But then I was like, oh no, hang on.
- 23:52Speaker 1: It's going to be fine. It's a gender reveal. It's
- 23:54Speaker 1: completely different. I mean, it'd be a completely different story
- 23:57Speaker 1: if Lucy Jackson pretended that she was dropping a pregnancy announcement.
- 24:01Speaker 1: I also feel like ever so slightly the internet is
- 24:05Speaker 1: shifting with council culture and Potentially, if this was shared
- 24:08Speaker 1: in 2020, I feel like someone could have come up
- 24:11Speaker 1: with a reason as to why it offended them, but
- 24:13Speaker 1: I'm actually glad that it was received positively because it
- 24:16Speaker 1: was all in fun. Yeah, I think everyone has a
- 24:18Speaker 1: bit more of a sense of humor these days.
- 24:21Speaker 2: People are just so nosy.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Fun. Seven months after unveiling her new nose, Indy Clinton
- 24:29Speaker 1: has revealed she's having a corrective rhinoplasty. The popular TikToker
- 24:33Speaker 1: was trolled for months following the procedure and with followers
- 24:36Speaker 1: declaring that she had ruined her face. Now, so Indie
- 24:39Speaker 1: made the admission during an influencer event. That's right. So
- 24:42Speaker 1: Indie broke the news whilst attending fast fashion brand Showpo's
- 24:46Speaker 1: 15th birthday bash. And that is the birthday bash where
- 24:49Speaker 1: Tammy stole the show, walking out with, quote, an old man.
- 24:53Speaker 1: That's what TikTok was calling him. Potentially, he may be
- 24:56Speaker 1: the CEO of the talent management company that she is
- 24:59Speaker 1: managed by. I was very sad to miss out on
- 25:01Speaker 1: that episode. I did have a few thoughts about that.
- 25:03Speaker 1: It's also the event where Tammy posted about a muscly
- 25:07Speaker 1: man basically cuddling her in bed, which attracted a lot
- 25:10Speaker 1: of attention as well. Yeah, we're not sure if said
- 25:12Speaker 1: old man was the same muscly man. I don't think
- 25:14Speaker 1: it was. His arm looked too young. Now, the brand
- 25:18Speaker 1: ended up filming a You Look Happier trend video. We
- 25:21Speaker 1: are seeing this happen at a lot of fast fashion
- 25:23Speaker 1: brand events where they try and jump on all of
- 25:25Speaker 1: the trends. And that is where Indie revealed the news.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Let's take a listen to what she said. Thank you.
- 25:31Speaker 3: I'm getting a new nose in a few weeks.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Think a lot of people saw this coming. We have
- 25:36Speaker 1: followed this story extensively since back in April when she
- 25:40Speaker 1: revealed her nose and was inundated with some disgusting commentary
- 25:45Speaker 1: about it. It did bring out a very ugly side
- 25:47Speaker 1: of social media. And when she did reveal her nose,
- 25:50Speaker 1: she prefaced that it was very swollen because she was
- 25:53Speaker 1: only two weeks post-op and that it would take several
- 25:56Speaker 1: months to heal. But this really didn't stop the barrage
- 25:59Speaker 1: of judgment and hate with some followers saying that the
- 26:02Speaker 1: nose job had ruined her face, which is just disgusting.
- 26:06Speaker 1: One user wrote, it's one of the worst jobs I've
- 26:08Speaker 1: ever seen. Half her nostrils are cut off. Whilst another
- 26:12Speaker 1: said she's ruined herself. She was naturally beautiful. She didn't
- 26:15Speaker 1: need surgery. Now those comments are absolutely abhorrent. I feel
- 26:19Speaker 1: awkward reading them out, but I wanted to demonstrate just
- 26:22Speaker 1: how disgusting the commentary was around this nose job. I mean,
- 26:25Speaker 1: the online bullying became so intense that Indy was forced
- 26:29Speaker 1: to shield her nose behind a face mask while she
- 26:32Speaker 1: appeared online. It's quite ironic because when Indy announced her
- 26:35Speaker 1: nose job initially, she admitted that she actually considered hiding
- 26:39Speaker 1: it from her followers because she didn't want the judgment
- 26:42Speaker 1: and she also didn't want to look like she was
- 26:43Speaker 1: promoting cosmetic surgery because it came off the back of
- 26:46Speaker 1: her also getting breast implants a couple of months before. Yeah,
- 26:49Speaker 1: and it got to the point where all of this
- 26:51Speaker 1: commentary really negatively affected Indy Clinton's mental health. She wasn't
- 26:55Speaker 1: showing up online. She was really struggling. And at the
- 26:58Speaker 1: end of July, she addressed the huge reaction to her
- 27:01Speaker 1: nose job. So in a candid TikTok video, she admitted
- 27:04Speaker 1: that she wasn't happy with the results of the surgery
- 27:07Speaker 1: and didn't ask for the nose that she currently has.
- 27:09Speaker 1: She said, do you think I asked for this? Genuinely.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Let me make it clear for you guys. I asked
- 27:14Speaker 1: for minor tweaks. I am Italian. I have a Mediterranean nose.
- 27:17Speaker 1: I love that. That was what we agreed on. Does
- 27:19Speaker 1: it look like I've had minor tweaks? There's your answer,
- 27:22Speaker 1: ladies and gentlemen. That's the thing because Indy initially went
- 27:26Speaker 1: in for the nose job to fix a minor surfing
- 27:29Speaker 1: injury that she had received. It wasn't because she'd grown
- 27:32Speaker 1: up hating her nose or anything like that. She also
- 27:35Speaker 1: spoke more about the nose job on the Stellar podcast.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Let's have a listen to some of what she said.
- 27:41Speaker 2: I just wanted that, that shaved down, like something here lifted, like.
- 27:47Speaker 2: to make my nostrils less exposed. But did that work?
- 27:50Speaker 2: Absolutely not. And I woke up and I had the
- 27:54Speaker 2: cast on my face for 12 days, like you do.
- 27:57Speaker 2: And then I went to the office and the nurse
- 27:59Speaker 2: removed it. And I looked at myself, I was like,
- 28:01Speaker 2: oh my God, what the f * * *? And
- 28:03Speaker 2: I was under the impression that it would change. I
- 28:07Speaker 2: was told it would change. It always looks like this, right?
- 28:09Speaker 2: But from the get go, it looked like a a pig,
- 28:13Speaker 2: but a pig is a nice term. Honestly, it looked
- 28:16Speaker 2: like a, I don't even know what it looks like,
- 28:17Speaker 2: but it didn't look like my nose. It didn't look
- 28:19Speaker 2: like minor tweaks.
- 28:21Speaker 1: It's really interesting to hear there that Indy was told
- 28:25Speaker 1: by the surgeon that don't worry, it'll look different. They
- 28:28Speaker 1: didn't actually say, hey, we fucked up and something's gone
- 28:31Speaker 1: wrong here. Well, you hear that a lot. I remember
- 28:33Speaker 1: when Sky Wheatley got her fox eye surgery done in
- 28:36Speaker 1: Turkey last year and the reaction online was just as
- 28:41Speaker 1: bad as it was towards Indy Clinton's nose. People were
- 28:44Speaker 1: very unkind. But Skye was correct. The effect really softened
- 28:48Speaker 1: and it wasn't as harsh as what she had to
- 28:50Speaker 1: begin with. Well, that's the thing. With nose jobs, they
- 28:53Speaker 1: do typically take a full year to heal and for
- 28:56Speaker 1: the final results to be seen. But as Indy touched on,
- 28:58Speaker 1: it was quite clear that something really didn't go to plan.
- 29:01Speaker 1: So that's why I think that she is getting this
- 29:03Speaker 1: revision surgery done quite soon after the initial surgery because
- 29:07Speaker 1: usually people would say, Wait a little bit longer. Yeah,
- 29:10Speaker 1: it's been eight months. But I think it's quite clear
- 29:14Speaker 1: in this case that something hasn't gone quite right. And
- 29:18Speaker 1: I take my hat off to Indy that she hasn't
- 29:19Speaker 1: actually exposed the surgeon who did carry out this surgery.
- 29:24Speaker 1: It would be tough not to, particularly when she has
- 29:27Speaker 1: received so much trolling and it has taken such a
- 29:29Speaker 1: toll on her mental health. I wonder if it's the
- 29:31Speaker 1: same surgeon doing the revision. I mean, I assume that
- 29:33Speaker 1: she's gone elsewhere. This is the thing, though. I don't
- 29:36Speaker 1: want anyone to feel validated that, you know, oh, well,
- 29:39Speaker 1: it was fine for me to say these comments because
- 29:40Speaker 1: she's not happy with the nose job herself. I actually
- 29:43Speaker 1: think it makes some of these negative comments even worse
- 29:45Speaker 1: to consider what Indy was going through. I mean, it's
- 29:48Speaker 1: absolutely horrendous that this surgery happened has gone down in
- 29:51Speaker 1: the way it has and that she's so dissatisfied with it.
- 29:54Speaker 1: I just really hope Indy is happy with the revision
- 29:57Speaker 1: once it's done and she can just move forward from this.
- 29:59Speaker 1: I wonder how much of it she will be documenting
- 30:01Speaker 1: because she actually didn't document the procedure initially. If I
- 30:06Speaker 1: was her, I probably would because it might make people
- 30:08Speaker 1: appreciate what she's gone through and be a bit more empathetic.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Do we reckon that she's doing it around Christmastime So
- 30:16Speaker 1: people give her the grace that she's going away on
- 30:18Speaker 1: a bit of a holiday. She might not return until
- 30:21Speaker 1: she's fully happy. Yeah, probably. I mean, she did that
- 30:24Speaker 1: when she got her breast implant. She announced that she
- 30:27Speaker 1: was taking two weeks off. So yeah, that could all
- 30:30Speaker 1: line up. Well, that is where we're going to leave
- 30:32Speaker 1: things today. If you do enjoy the podcast, we would
- 30:35Speaker 1: really love it if you could leave us a review.
