- 0:00Speaker 1: I'll start Toyota Presents off the bench with Jacob Hester
- 0:04and Matt Flynn say.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Hester and Hester.
- 0:07Speaker 1: From carrying each other to and Natty to carrying each
- 0:12other on the air Control live from the Mercedes Benz
- 0:19Baton Rouge studio. It's off the bench.
- 0:24Speaker 2: All right, Welcome back in OTV here on this Wednesday morning.
- 0:29We got LSU linebacker what Weeks joining us in about
- 0:31thirty minutes from now, Anthony Nardo good enough to just
- 0:35hang out with us. We're like, hey, we're just gonna
- 0:37force you to come chill, hang out. I can't leave this,
- 0:40I know no doubt about it. All right, Flynn, I
- 0:44hope you got at least one question ready. Uh, you
- 0:48don't have one ready?
- 0:50Speaker 3: I asked my question.
- 0:51Speaker 2: That was it?
- 0:52Speaker 4: The one so simple to just chat.
- 0:54Speaker 3: EBT would you right or other? Yeah?
- 0:57Speaker 2: What all you? Right now? I got that be where
- 0:59your feet are in the studio right now. I was
- 1:03you can we we ring my high in fifty nine
- 1:05minutes we were off.
- 1:10Speaker 5: I took your chair. You're standing. It's a different element,
- 1:12So I'll give you. I'll take the blame for that.
- 1:15Three chairs is a bit much to ask for.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Well, three of the same chairs because like there's that
- 1:20one over there, but then you end up being like
- 1:23six inches lower than everybody else, and it's just it's
- 1:26a whole situation. So all right, we used to have
- 1:30imaging for this. You would have to go I know,
- 1:32you would have to go so far back in the archives.
- 1:35Speaker 3: How long is a long time, isn't it?
- 1:37Speaker 2: So when I first so, you and I used to
- 1:40do this on hanging with hester like way back, used
- 1:45to come up with a question. Yeah, yeah, yeah, And
- 1:47te Bob used to do it. I think I think
- 1:49he did it with Geordie as well. We kind of
- 1:52stopped whenever.
- 1:52Speaker 3: I don't know why.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Maybe t Bob didn't like it, but I love it.
- 1:56It can be sports, it can be whatever, whatever, whatever.
- 2:00So I'm just gonna ask you, would you rather? We're
- 2:02gonna go around the room. I mean, I'm gonna ask
- 2:04a question. We're gonna get four answers. It's not that hard,
- 2:06pretty self explained to her. You would think, so I
- 2:08just came up with a question. Thank God, think of
- 2:11some All right, here we go, would you rather? Wednesday?
- 2:16We're gonna have imaging in the whole deal for this,
- 2:18but we're gonna do it every Wednesday. Would you rather
- 2:20have a ten year solid NFL career with no Pro Bowls?
- 2:25Or one legendary season and flame out? So ten super
- 2:31solid years but you never reached that peak of being
- 2:34elite or having like an MVP one off crazy season
- 2:39and then you just kind of go away. How many
- 2:41years do you play though? Like, do you like, are
- 2:43you on a rock, like just kind of you flame out?
- 2:46Maybe you spend years in my car? Wow? Or maybe
- 2:52you know maybe does.
- 2:54Speaker 3: It include a super insurance?
- 2:55Speaker 2: Would be okay on that? So like I feel like that.
- 2:58I mean, we look, there's a quarterback in Cleveland, Like
- 3:00he didn't get hit by a car, but he did
- 3:02some things and so like he kind of flamed out, right,
- 3:05you know what I mean? So you want ten solid
- 3:07years or do you want the one season?
- 3:09Speaker 3: I guess where you're like, would be does that once
- 3:12you get you win the super Bowl?
- 3:14Speaker 2: Huge question?
- 3:15Speaker 3: Huge question if you win the super Bowl and taking
- 3:17the one Okay, Also what year in your career because
- 3:20it's year three.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Day.
- 3:25Speaker 3: He's like, I wasn't prepared for all these super bowl
- 3:28I'm going one year. If it's a no super Bowl,
- 3:31then I'm going to.
- 3:32Speaker 2: All right, yeah, I think I'm I'm probably in this.
- 3:35Speaker 5: That was my first question, Like if I get a ring, yeah,
- 3:37I can be okay with it, all right, but otherwise
- 3:39I want the consistency.
- 3:40Speaker 4: So I was worried about the background music, so I
- 3:44didn't really hear what the question is.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Would you rather a ten year NFL career where you
- 3:52never like reached like the best status, right you never
- 3:54in that upper echelon group or one legendary season an
- 3:58you flame.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Out, I'll be one wonder.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Wow, I'm surprised by this.
- 4:02Speaker 6: Okaye probably still make more money in the ten years
- 4:05a ten year, So I'm going ten years because like
- 4:09for me, I played a position that you know, didn't
- 4:15get a lot of love.
- 4:17Speaker 2: But like I love the fact that I, you know,
- 4:19I was able to get six years and consistent and
- 4:21invested like in all all that stuff. Like I always
- 4:24think about, like what kind of career I'd want to have.
- 4:28I would much rather play six years and play like
- 4:30in all six of those years and be a starter
- 4:32than like a fifteen year career where I started, like
- 4:35looking at you, Chase Daniel, like seven games. Yeah, yeah,
- 4:38you know what I mean. I got much rather a
- 4:39six year career where I was like a dude on
- 4:41the team that actually contributed.
- 4:43Speaker 3: It's a lot of thought because if you're grinding your
- 4:47own special team.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Listen, I've already told you this. I'm going to be
- 4:50eating out of a straw at sixty five. I didn't
- 4:52know that at the time. Yeah, I do it all again.
- 4:56Speaker 5: Here's another thing that you think about with the ten
- 4:58year thing. I just thought about this too. Ten years
- 5:00is a long time with a lot of teammates. You
- 5:02meet a lot of people who make a lot of connections.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Along the way. And if you're a part.
- 5:06Speaker 5: Of a team and you're like, you're not the super star,
- 5:09but you're the grinder in there.
- 5:10Speaker 2: You're making your boys with a lot of guys like you.
- 5:13How many boys you have because you play for different If.
- 5:15Speaker 3: I'm a super Bowl winner and a Super Bowl MVP,
- 5:17just one time, I can go to every.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Door trip. Yeah, I love the spotlight.
- 5:24Speaker 3: All right, all right, so two hours. I got kind
- 5:28of nervous when you asked your question because it's like
- 5:29pretty similar to my question, but no different. Would you
- 5:33rather win an Olympic gold medal in an obscure sport
- 5:37that you that you can barely find on like the
- 5:40back end of True Team, didn't know it was a sport,
- 5:42didn't know the sport, or be a bench player in
- 5:46the NBA. NBA makes money. It's not a question bench players. Yeah,
- 5:54for him, it is for.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Him, it is.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I think because it doesn't.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Like to not play. I don't like to that you
- 6:00can make.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Money as an Olympian, but not an obscure Olympian.
- 6:04Speaker 7: I don't feel like you can't know there's no money
- 6:06and eventually a millionaires.
- 6:09Speaker 5: I just think the lifestyle of the loneliness of like
- 6:12this week, I shouldn't say weird this unique sport, right,
- 6:15there's probably not a lot of people around in not
- 6:17support systems, but you might.
- 6:20Speaker 3: If you're good at this obscure sport, you might be
- 6:22a gold medalist from your twenty twenty years old, your
- 6:28your legacy.
- 6:28Speaker 5: Yeah, you and I talk about would be sick that
- 6:32would that?
- 6:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I would love a gold medal of that. I
- 6:36would be like, like, just talk about all we played
- 6:40the one sport that literally you can't win a gold medal,
- 6:44you know, Yeah, so this flight football, Yeah, but even
- 6:47a difference different, there have no chance you can make
- 6:50it come back but you never had it.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Like you had all the me wo drink out of
- 6:56your stroll like this.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I don't know, man, like a bench player for the NBA.
- 7:03You know how bitter I am about a bench player
- 7:04for I know you are. But it's like the ninth
- 7:06guy on an NBA bench makes seven times what I
- 7:09made in my entire career being a six year starter
- 7:12in the NFL, and you don't know any other name,
- 7:14no clue in school, nothing, No, it's crazy, no clear.
- 7:17The guy never even throws the warm up off, like
- 7:19those buttons that go they never even come off.
- 7:22Speaker 3: I didn't everyone. I didn't realize everybody here hated America
- 7:26so much. You don't want you don't want to look
- 7:29at that. You don't want to run. No, I'm going
- 7:36to NBA. Okay, well.
- 7:38Speaker 2: America. The best defender on the practice squad all day.
- 7:45Anthony didn't have a computer. I feel bad like.
- 7:47Speaker 4: He didn't have Do you want to ask one? Do
- 7:49you have one?
- 7:49Speaker 2: And I don't. It was not I think on it
- 7:55for a second as we go around, what you're going,
- 7:58I'll go.
- 8:01Speaker 4: I did chat GPT it and this is one that
- 8:04it gave me that I kind of like would you
- 8:05rather be the goat, like the greatest of all time
- 8:08in any sport, but everybody hates you or kind of
- 8:12average and everybody loves you, go.
- 8:15Speaker 3: And be hated. If you're hated, you made it.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't need I don't need to add of boys. Yeah,
- 8:21I just don't. I'm trying to be the best. Not
- 8:23my love language. I'm trying to be the best. And
- 8:26if somebody hates you, you're doing something right.
- 8:28Speaker 3: I'm with you.
- 8:29Speaker 2: So I think I want to be the goat and
- 8:30people just not like me.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Like it's okay for the people that you're competing against
- 8:34to hate you, but you're doing something right.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:36Speaker 3: But like, if everybody hates you, that means you're just the.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Are talking like fans and teammates too. Everybody hates you, tmates,
- 8:44That's what I'm saying. It's like, at the end of
- 8:51the day, there's six people the other six that live
- 8:54in my house. If they love me, I don't really care,
- 8:56So give me the goat. Everybody can hate me because
- 8:59I'm not here to be your buddy, your best friend,
- 9:03and and everybody loved me.
- 9:05Speaker 3: As long as like your teammates are cool with you.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Teammates are good with you because the Goats usually they
- 9:11have a work ethic that is unmatched for anybody else.
- 9:13Speaker 5: And at least I can get behind and respect that
- 9:15and like be like, you know what, I can.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Understand why they don't like people didn't like Kobe. Yeah,
- 9:20you know there's a large portion and like you sit
- 9:22back and you look at who Kobe was. How do
- 9:24you not love that guy? Absolutely? Like you might hate
- 9:26the Lakers, but you're like, man, I could get behind
- 9:28the way that guy's process was. It was all about that.
- 9:31Speaker 5: That's a goal, right, So the public sentiment is different
- 9:35teammates and like organizational yeah you.
- 9:38Speaker 7: Ready, Yeah, I'll keep it sports related because we've all
- 9:41done like these these team sports things. So individual wise,
- 9:45professional golfer, professional tennis player, which one would you rather be?
- 9:49Speaker 2: Like?
- 9:49Speaker 4: Tis would be more fun?
- 9:52Speaker 2: That's a great question.
- 9:55Speaker 3: But I feel like if you if you're really good
- 9:57at golf, you make a ton of money.
- 9:58Speaker 2: That's an easy question.
- 10:00Speaker 7: But I think, like, I think I'm going to like tennis.
- 10:06Speaker 3: I think I play on the Live tool right now.
- 10:09Speaker 4: Like Jake said, you get to travel, you do it's fun,
- 10:12you move a lot more. I don't know anything about.
- 10:15Speaker 7: Golf, well, and the cool thing about tennis, like you
- 10:17got the clay court, you got the grass court, Like
- 10:19it's it's a little bit more diverse.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Maybe yeah, maybe maybe tennis. You're in better shape, your
- 10:23heart's in better shape. Yeahs these days do work really hard.
- 10:27Speaker 2: You're going in cool spots if you're like the best,
- 10:30like one of the best tennis players. Yeah yeah, I
- 10:32mean you're going and you're going Australia.
- 10:35Speaker 3: You're going to Wimbledon until you're seventy, Like that's true
- 10:38for sure.
- 10:39Speaker 4: You could be like John Daily super just drunk.
- 10:43Speaker 2: I don't think there's a cowboy killers the.
- 10:49Speaker 5: Mail and be a golfer jat GBT, spit spit some
- 10:52good ones out to me. Okay, okay, what we got one?
- 10:55Here we go real quick. Would you rather have your
- 10:57I like this one? Would you rather have your jersey
- 10:59retired by your hometown team? Will be a more mortalized
- 11:02in a famous sports movie as a legendary underdog.
- 11:06Speaker 2: I'm underdog.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Movie because that's your life, like Rudy, Like you're already
- 11:14think about Rudy.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Yeah, think about Rudy, Like whose jersey's retired to Notre
- 11:18Dame I don't know exactly. Yeah, I think it's like
- 11:24it's Rudy's jersey. Probably not, there's actually for the movie.
- 11:28Speaker 3: I'm actually pretty sure Rudy's teammates didn't like.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Yeahbably had a nice little podcast interview about that. But
- 11:34still I was saying, like everybody like knows Rudy. That
- 11:38was kind of like the first example, Like they make
- 11:40movies about underdogs, they don't make movies about Michael Jordan
- 11:43and what you're.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Yeah, Jake's probably had both of these scenarios. He probably
- 11:48has this jersey.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Retired in high school and you've heard you've heard my story.
- 11:53I know you've never heard the story of total narrow
- 11:56A bunch. No, we don't listen. Thanks for being a
- 11:58p one. So I'm in Denver, real quick. I'm in Denver.
- 12:03John Fox, our head coach. He's in front of the team.
- 12:05He's trying to make a point. He's trying to make
- 12:06the point of everybody was somebody and the man somewhere
- 12:10in their career, and we all got here, and now
- 12:13we all got to come together. Nobody's bigger than the team.
- 12:15You know that kind of speech. It's like, I mean, guys,
- 12:17who in here? Doesn't have their high school jersey retired,
- 12:20and it was me and the punter raised our hands no, yeah,
- 12:23in front of the entire team. I mean I got,
- 12:26I got Wes Welker, Eric Decker, Peyton Manning, No Sean Moreno,
- 12:31like all just sitting here and I'm like, look, other
- 12:35people are gonna put me and then would over here
- 12:38have our hands up from Jersey Bays Jersey. No. Sean
- 12:45is one of the funniest human bities of all time,
- 12:48and so he ripped me.
- 12:51Speaker 5: Yeah, They're like, Angel, You're immediately texted calling your coach.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Like, how was I what?
- 13:00Speaker 2: They only have one jersey retired at Evangel, which is
- 13:02crazy because Brock Berlin was National players didn't he does
- 13:06not have his retire They've had first They've had a
- 13:08first round pick that was a third round pick. They've
- 13:11had NFL guys. Josh Booty is the only one that
- 13:14has his jersey retired. His brother, who won two Rose
- 13:18Bowls at USC as a starting quarterback, doesn't have his.
- 13:20It was the same number, but it's for Josh.
- 13:23Speaker 3: I was going to guess. I was going to guess
- 13:24John David. Yeah, oh my gosh, what I'm one be
- 13:28better retired. This man's not his but brock Berlin.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Brock Berlin was the USA Today high School Player of
- 13:39the Year. Retire that man, yeah yeah, wow, oh my,
- 13:44And he won an Orange Bowls the quarterback for Miami.
- 13:46So there you go more.
- 13:47Speaker 3: You know, Sanna, isn't he the owner of like the
- 13:51greatest tier in like sports history national anthem?
- 13:54Speaker 2: Yeah? Why that's right. Yeh, that's right.
- 13:59Speaker 3: That looks like it's like a I generated back. Yeah,
- 14:01it is the perfect too.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I don't know if I can tell some of his
- 14:04stories on air, like not like that, not like that.
- 14:07But he had the funniest list of kangaroo court finds. Yeah,
- 14:12it was so funny. I'll tell one that would be
- 14:16a funny segment. So I'll tell I'll tell one real
- 14:19quick before we get out of here. So Ronnie hillm
- 14:21and Ben rest in peace. Ronnie passed away. But Ronnie
- 14:23was was a guy that was a big hand clapper.
- 14:25When he messed up, our coach hated it. So no,
- 14:28Sean's like, hey, we gotta put that up on the board, Like, man,
- 14:31you got in trouble for that, like so many times,
- 14:33like we got to put up on the board any
- 14:34handclap is one hundred dollars, and so he missed a
- 14:37pass protection. We're playing against I think the Browns of
- 14:40the Bucks, one of those teams I can't remember. He
- 14:42missed a pass protection. Peyton got sacked like it was
- 14:45it was a bad deal. So like Ronnie's like he's
- 14:47a young player, so he's like watching tape and just
- 14:49like you can tell, like it bothered him. He didn't
- 14:51want a joke right then. But no Sean, well, no
- 14:53Sean was a joker and No Sean was going to
- 14:55keep up with the kangaroo court. And so we played
- 14:57the player or whatever and not No Sean's like, oh
- 14:59well hold up, hold on, go back, go back, go back,
- 15:02And everybody's like this is like what happened? What Ronnie do? Whatever?
- 15:06And he goes back and Ronnie's like hand clapping like
- 15:09over and over and over, like he countered. Man he's
- 15:12slow mode goes one, two, three, I mean he gets
- 15:17all the way up. He had like nine hundred bucks
- 15:19of like hand claps, and like Ronnie's like, I just
- 15:21got Peyton Manning crushed. Yeah, no shots like up in
- 15:24front of the room, slow mode, just counting the hand claps,
- 15:27wait wait, wait, wait, man, I mean that that was
- 15:32so good? Good Anthony, you're the man. Appreciate you hanging out. Yeah,
- 15:38for sure. Want to you know, do this more often anytime,
- 15:41if you're open and available anytime.
- 15:43Speaker 3: We can talk some more cards.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Absolutely, thank you. Well, we could spend three hours some
- 15:47more quick. All right, we'll take a break. We got
- 15:49what weeks joining us in about fifteen minutes from now.

- 17:35talking to Muster Anthony Ornando. Awesome, dude, awesome conversation. I
- 17:38really enjoyed the car talk. I know y'all wanted to
- 17:41talk baseball.
- 17:43Speaker 2: We did.
- 17:44Speaker 3: My wife texted me what you said? Man, y'all should
- 17:45be asking some of these questions to the wives. She's like,
- 17:47you played ten years for sure, sod of the one
- 17:50year I chose to you.
- 17:52Speaker 2: I know you did. I didn't thank you, Lacy. I
- 17:55appreciate it. Back you played? How made you play? Eight? Wow?
- 17:58Speaker 3: At eight?
- 18:00Speaker 2: Or me? Yeah? Six?
- 18:03Speaker 5: No?
- 18:03Speaker 2: We do look at games play. It's a different story.
- 18:09Y'all have to understand me, and have been doing this
- 18:14for since two thousand and four, And it was pretty
- 18:19immediate that we were going to be slappies together. We
- 18:24were roommates on the road in two thousand and four,
- 18:27so my freshman year, his red shirt freshman year, and
- 18:31it's almost like coaches knew we had too much fun
- 18:35and they wouldn't allow us to be roommates after that year,
- 18:41was like, nah, you're gonna be with the I guess
- 18:44it would have been jam Marcus or m rand Rand
- 18:48and JaMarcus was so five. You would have had a
- 18:50room with JaMarcus, I think. And then did you have
- 18:52to parent? Was parently your roommate maybe at one time
- 18:55or no? Jimmy Walker no? Or do you have JaMarcus?
- 18:58I'm trying to pick up my you hatch Jared, we didn't.
- 19:01We didn't room our last year. No, they wouldn't let us.
- 19:05Speaker 3: I think they might have put me or maybe we did.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I don't know, but I know Jimbo is like.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Nah, it could have been it could have been j
- 19:12It could have been Jared y.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, because I so I went from you being
- 19:17my roommate on the road and at the love Cook
- 19:19to it being Joe d In five, and then it
- 19:23was Ali Brussard and O six and then actually it
- 19:26was Chuck Scott and O seven. So yeah, I remember
- 19:28it now as I lay it out.
- 19:29Speaker 3: I think me and JaMarcus were roommates our first year. Yeah,
- 19:33and then it is not the second then US five
- 19:37and six, Yeah, I guess it was. I guess I
- 19:41roomed ajerately after that. We did room in a training
- 19:44camp for.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Last year though.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, West Apartment, West Camp. Isn't it crazy that
- 19:49West Campus apartments is now like old, like decrepit. Yeah.
- 19:52I was there for the first like the yeah, like
- 19:55pop the bottle of champagne on.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I was because my first summer was
- 19:58East Campus. I stats where I stayed East Campus my
- 20:01first summer in the summer.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, and now my my and O three was
- 20:06when it opened.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Right, I wasn't in school, Yes, they put me to
- 20:09East Campus I think maybe yeah for something.
- 20:11Speaker 3: That summer was different because you could officially like yeah,
- 20:14move in, yeah, unless you were already there, right uh.
- 20:18But yeah, West it was brand new, brand spanking new,
- 20:20beautiful glorious.
- 20:21Speaker 2: It was nice.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Now it's old.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Turn that ac down about fifty five.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Yeah, where did the athletes stay at the I think
- 20:29it's like the new Pentagon was trash when we were there. Yeah,
- 20:33that's where. That's where I stayed for my first training camp.
- 20:36Me and Marcus Randall were roommates and training camp at
- 20:39the old Pentagon. Yeah, and it was like welcome to college.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Bud was my senior year. I'm like coach Miles, I'm married.
- 20:46What do you mean I gotta stay at West Campus
- 20:48for camp? I'm I'm old, I'm a man. Yeah, my
- 20:52wife definitely wasn't in the West Campus apartment waiting when
- 20:54I got there. Definitely not that definitely did not happen
- 20:58Stelt's it was like Stell his girlfriend was definitely not there.
- 21:03Sewn Jordan's girlfriend was definitely not in that situation. Lacey
- 21:07was nowhere to be seen. I don't know what you're
- 21:10talking about.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Uh, it's all about football, but all about ball, all
- 21:13about ball, I will tell you.
- 21:15Speaker 2: In teammate in two thousand and five, Joe and I
- 21:18one of my favorite teammates of all time, the most
- 21:20athletic person that I played with at LSU. When I
- 21:24got here and I saw number ten, I said, so,
- 21:27wait a minute, you want me to play the same
- 21:29position as that human that's the thing, Like him and
- 21:33I are going to end up playing like yeah yeah,
- 21:35And no disrespect to any of the other running backs
- 21:38that were on the roster at the time. They didn't.
- 21:41I got peace of mind when I was like, oh, oh,
- 21:43he's more like me.
- 21:44Speaker 3: Oh yeahkas the outliers.
- 21:47Speaker 2: That guy, yeah, crazy, crazy athlete, that's why he's a
- 21:51first round pick, played and won a Super Bowl. But
- 21:53he would wake up in the middle of the night
- 21:55and the love cook cookies were famous, and he was
- 21:58just like, not even knowing it. He would wake up
- 22:01and he'd eat cookies in his sleep. I'm like, Joe, dude,
- 22:04you crush like three cookies in your sleep last night.
- 22:06I was like, no, I didn't know. Now, Joe, you
- 22:08ate three cookies in your sleep?
- 22:10Speaker 3: Saw you with my eyes.
- 22:11Speaker 2: And he even like he even finished it with some
- 22:13milk and he didn't even know he did it. So
- 22:15that was like he I.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Don't think there was refrigerators in those rooms.
- 22:19Speaker 2: There was another way. Yeah, no, no, there was refrigerators. Yeah.
- 22:25And then so like the next year when Ali Brussard
- 22:28was my roommate. Ali would keep me up because he
- 22:30would be working on his wraps. So he'd be in
- 22:33the corner and he'd be putting together a rap and
- 22:36he was trying to like you know, he's doing it
- 22:38into the phone or whatever device he had or trying
- 22:41and he play it back to see if it was
- 22:43like a good, you know whatever, Like I don't I'm
- 22:45not in the game. I don't know, but like he
- 22:47would play it back, and my man would stay up late.
- 22:49He'd stay up late out there.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Not in the game.
- 22:53Speaker 2: I don't know, I don't know, but like he would
- 22:55be in the corner like of the other room and
- 22:58that's what he was doing. So like and I got
- 23:00Chuck Scott and he would go to sleep before me.
- 23:02I'm like, okay, all right, good, we're good, We're good,
- 23:05We're golden.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Here. Did y'all have to in the NFL? Did y'all
- 23:09stay in any apartment, dorm, hotel situation for camps? Did
- 23:15y'all y'all stayed right?
- 23:16Speaker 2: Now? We stayed. We did. We were right by our
- 23:18facility in both the places that I was. So we
- 23:21had a holiday inn like a mile down the road
- 23:24from our San Diego.
- 23:25Speaker 3: That's real state.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Yep.
- 23:27Speaker 3: When we in Green Bay, we would stay in uh
- 23:32Saint Norbert's College and to Peer, Wisconsin, which is just
- 23:36like right outside of Green Bay. Yeah. St. Norbert's College.
- 23:39No one's ever heard of it.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Never. No.
- 23:41Speaker 3: We stayed in these old like like again like old school,
- 23:45like Pentagon type dorms. It was three three story level.
- 23:48It was like a It was like a rectangle with
- 23:50a courtyard in the middle outside like staircases all the
- 23:53way up to the doors, and good god, it was.
- 23:57It was not very comfortable situation for being an NFL team.
- 24:01And yeah, you're not like trying to like break people
- 24:04at that point in career. You're professional football players. Yeah,
- 24:07but everybody from you know, the top, like Aaron Rodgers,
- 24:10whatever your career staying at Saint Norber's. But that place
- 24:13was haunted. Yeah, absolutely, one thousand haunted. Yeah, and there
- 24:18was every year there was stories that came out and
- 24:20it was like, yeah, we get it.
- 24:22Speaker 2: It is funny you're talking about like Aaron Rodgers staying
- 24:26in that place, right, It's like when I'm with Peyton
- 24:29Man and he's staying at the same Radison in right,
- 24:31we're staying up training camp. You know, you know how much?
- 24:35And you would never know. I mean Peyton literally pulls
- 24:37up to the hotel in a buick. That's that's what
- 24:40he That's what he drives. I think he has a sponsorship,
- 24:42but still he's driving a buick and he pulls up
- 24:45and gets his bag and going. This Radison in and
- 24:47goes and it's just like man's guy's worth a lot
- 24:50of money, but he's he's worried about ball, right, even
- 24:53get a sweet? Nah, there's no sweet.
- 24:56Speaker 3: He was sharing a door with somebody. Oh yeah, for sure. Yeah, yeah,
- 25:01it's pretty I mean when we I went to other
- 25:05teams and you stayed a different plague in Oakland, we
- 25:08went and had training camp in Napa, like we stayed
- 25:10in like this beautiful Mariotte And like in Seattle, we
- 25:14stayed in the hotel nice hotel Bell Like Green Bay.
- 25:17It was you're gonna go rough it at this terrible Oh.
- 25:21I mean it's a beautiful little campus like a hockey team.
- 25:24They but the dorm room's not nice. There was no
- 25:28arched gates entrances to the dorm room. Yeah yeah, I mean,
- 25:33maybe I can tease that haunted story. But you know,
- 25:36I definitely experienced some supernatural stuff.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Well, we are going to experience one of my meathead
- 25:43brethren when we come back, very excited for our next conversation.
- 25:48A guy that look, I was there for his official
- 25:51visit at LSU, saw him and his family. We knew
- 25:55we had to get him to LSU. We got him here.
- 25:58He's been a hell of a player ever since. We're
- 26:00gonna catch up with LSU linebacker Wit Weeks when we
- 26:04jump back here on o T beat off the bench.
- 26:09All right, go Central Plumbing dot org. Central Plumbing dot Org.

- 26:56business as long as they have. Go to the website
- 26:58Central Plumbing dot org.
- 27:00Speaker 3: I guess names brands too, Raim, American Standard, Color, Delta
- 27:03twenty four to seven. Emergency services call them today two
- 27:07two five nine two five eight five five two.
- 27:23Speaker 1: From players to legends, Hester and Flynn breakdown LSU football
- 27:27like only champions can.
- 27:32Speaker 2: We gotta get a big voice, lady to change that one.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, we gotta change a few things. But that's
- 27:37what we're gonna leave it up to our listeners to
- 27:39help us change.
- 27:40Speaker 2: We are all right, We are very excited for this
- 27:43next conversation. LSU linebacker Wit Weeks joins the show. Now,
- 27:47wit Man, what's going on? Glad to have you on
- 27:50the show. Hope you're doing well.
- 27:52Speaker 8: Oh yeah, I'm doing good. I'm glad to be here.
- 27:54Speaker 2: All right. So I knew you. You grew up an
- 27:56Atlanta Braves fan. We had Chipper Jones on the show
- 27:59on Monday. Now you're quite a bit younger than us,
- 28:03and so maybe you missed like the Chipper days, but
- 28:05I did see I think recently I saw that you
- 28:07went to a Braves game. You're from the state of Georgia.
- 28:10Give me your Atlanta Brave memory.
- 28:14Speaker 8: Yeah, I remember Chipper when I was grown up. He
- 28:16was he was coming to the end of his career.
- 28:19But anytime I go home, we always try to get
- 28:21up to Atlanta and go to a Brave game. Whether
- 28:24that's me and my friends or go with my family,
- 28:26they're always a good time.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Yeah. Gosh, I mean Chipper Jones as somebody that played.
- 28:32He played long enough.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Where he was like a multiple generation with Week's Day.
- 28:36Speaker 2: That's awesome there with So I know you've been like
- 28:39all SEC some preseason All American stuff, but none of
- 28:43that matters. You know why because for a second year
- 28:45in a row over on my Serious XM show, we
- 28:48put together the All Meathead radio team because you know me,
- 28:51meat has a term of endearment. It's in the field
- 28:54Steel College Football magazine, and a little breaking news here.
- 28:58For the second year in a row, you are the
- 29:01Mike linebacker on the All Meathead Team.
- 29:04Speaker 8: Let's go. That's the biggest honor I've gotten.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Okay, and I want to ask you this, if if
- 29:13you could add an LSU teammate to the All Meatthead team,
- 29:16because I put a couple on there. I think there
- 29:18was I think there was three total LSU guys. Which
- 29:22teammate would you put on the All Meathead team?
- 29:25Speaker 8: Easily? Jack Fover, the new defensive ends from Florida. He's easily.
- 29:33Speaker 2: I'll let you know that Jack is the edge defender
- 29:36on the All Meathhead team.
- 29:41Speaker 3: That's good. So he So there's a term that's being
- 29:44thrown around on social media right now, a nickname for you.
- 29:47I don't know if you've seen it, hurt it, whatever
- 29:48it is, but it's a huge term of endear man.
- 29:50People out there are referring to you as the Honky Badger,
- 29:54all right, obviously a shout out to to Tyr Matthew,
- 29:57but it just goes to kind of show you there,
- 29:59even comparing you, putting you in the same sentences that
- 30:02of like how the LSU fan base as like falling
- 30:05in love with your game, the attitude, the passion you bring.
- 30:08Just talk to us about what the experience has been
- 30:12like the last last year, year and a half for you,
- 30:15just in South Louisiana, with the fan base, just knowing
- 30:18like you're you're you're one of the guys that everybody
- 30:21cheers for and loves right now.
- 30:24Speaker 8: Yeah, it's really cool. I mean whenever I, you know,
- 30:26came here as a freshman, coming down to South Louisiana
- 30:29from walking to Georgia, it's a bit of a culture
- 30:31shock for me. But really, I'm just I've fallen in
- 30:34love with this place and with this culture and with
- 30:37this community. So I could have been more excited to
- 30:39be put in the same sentence as Tyron Matthew because
- 30:42I remember when I was growing up, it was like
- 30:44every every kid wanted to be the honey Badger. Like
- 30:46when we're out of recess playing, we're like, oh, I'm
- 30:48the honey Badger. I'm the honey Badger. So to be
- 30:50putting the same sentence as him, it's it's pretty special now.
- 30:54Speaker 2: But I don't know if you remember this, but like
- 30:57I was there for your official visit. It's actually the
- 30:59only time that Lshu's ever like called me out of
- 31:02the bullpen coach like BK called me. He's like, hey,
- 31:05we got this linebacker out of Georgia, Like his brother's
- 31:08gonna be here as a transfer, but his old man
- 31:10played at Georgia, and like he's he's a big recruit,
- 31:14but he's not the highest rate of recruit, but we
- 31:16got to have him, like whatever we do in this class,
- 31:18like we got to sign this guy. And again, like
- 31:20they called me, like, hey, when should come eat with
- 31:22this guy, eat with his family, talk with his family.
- 31:24And so I remember how big of a deal that
- 31:26was because again, like they never asked me before, They've
- 31:29never asked me again. It was like to get you
- 31:31to try to come to campus. And so what was
- 31:33that like for you? Because again, like you've got family
- 31:36members that have played in other places. I mean, and
- 31:39I know a family friend of y'alls, Billy Bullock was
- 31:41my teammate there for the San Diego Chargers. I know
- 31:44him and your dad are good friends, and he talks
- 31:45about how a player your dad was there at Georgia.
- 31:48So for you, like what all went into that was it?
- 31:52Because like LSU identified you and like we gotta have
- 31:55that guy.
- 31:57Speaker 8: Yeah, that's one of the main reasons. But I tell everybody,
- 32:00really the three reasons that I came tell us you
- 32:02is the people, the place in the football right when
- 32:06I stepped on campus. I mean, everybody here was just
- 32:09they were I mean they I just felt like they
- 32:11were my type of people, good hardworking people. And then
- 32:14the place, you know, I love I love the food.
- 32:16I love crawfish, Cajun food, all that. And then the football.
- 32:19I mean, obviously LSU's football is second to none. And
- 32:22getting to play in Death Valley every weekend, you can't
- 32:25beat that.
- 32:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:26Speaker 3: Well, you've been such like a bright spot on this LSU,
- 32:31not only the defense, but the team the lot last year,
- 32:33and it's just something that's been like refreshing for us.
- 32:37You just the way your style of play, whether it's
- 32:41you know, playing hard, getting a sack, but the motor
- 32:43you play with, whether it's that or you know, doing
- 32:47some some airshot guns of beer in the end zone
- 32:50like all those things. It's a perfect place for you.
- 32:53So hey, going forward, like, talk to us about where
- 32:58you're at now, the team. You've been through spring practice.
- 33:01I'm assuming you've already started summer workouts, are about to
- 33:04start summer workouts. Talk to us about the team, the defense,
- 33:06how you're feeling going into this season.
- 33:10Speaker 8: I'm excited. I mean I'm more excited for this football
- 33:13season than i've ever been. I mean me personally coming
- 33:16off with injury. We just got cleared last week, so
- 33:20my first workout back with the team was this past Monday.
- 33:23We have our first team run today and a little
- 33:25player ran practice this afternoon, so I'm looking forward to that.
- 33:28But I mean, I think our defense is going to
- 33:30be special this year. I mean, the dudes that we
- 33:32brought in on the transfer portal, they're all dogs and
- 33:36you know, getting this step back and watch from the
- 33:38sidelines this spring. I think that our defense this spring
- 33:43was better than we were last season. And you're missing
- 33:47Me and Harold out there, so it's a promising sight
- 33:50to see.
- 33:52Speaker 2: And also the guy y'all have got leading the defense,
- 33:55Blake Baker. I mean, if there was a defensive coordinator
- 33:57on the All meatthead team, Blake and I have talked
- 33:59to this, Blake would be the nomination from me. Uh.
- 34:03I love every conversation I have with Blake, no matter
- 34:05if it's about football, if it's about life. I know
- 34:08y'all have got a close relationship as well.
- 34:11Speaker 8: Oh yeah, I love that dude to death. I mean, whenever,
- 34:14whenever the guy who's leading you into into battle, into
- 34:18a football game, whenever, whenever you know that he has
- 34:21your back and you have his back no matter what.
- 34:23It's a refreshing feeling knowing knowing that the guy that's
- 34:27leading you into into a football game is a good one.
- 34:31Speaker 2: I mean, do you do you give him a hard
- 34:33time for still wearing the cleats to a practice because
- 34:36he wants to be that involved. He wants to make
- 34:38it seem like he's still athletic.
- 34:41Speaker 8: Oh, I love it. I mean I love it. Whatever
- 34:44whatever you would do that's bringing that much energy every
- 34:47single days, it's hard not to come in and be
- 34:49excited to go play football.
- 34:51Speaker 3: I think I was a practice is either in the
- 34:54spring or maybe maybe his last training camp, and there
- 34:56was a throwaway. I think Grett threw it away, yeah,
- 34:59and Blake he reached out to catch it, he dropped
- 35:01it and he was like he dropped down and had
- 35:05to do like twenty push ups or something like that.
- 35:06I was like, Yeah, that's a dude, yep. That eleven
- 35:10guys are going to play their asses off four right there?
- 35:12Speaker 8: Yeah exactly. You want to go play for that guy?
- 35:15Speaker 2: Yeah? All right. So I know you've been out with
- 35:18injury and so glad to hear that you got cleared
- 35:20in your back and you're with the team working out.
- 35:22So I don't know how much you've been around one
- 35:25of our former teammates at LSU, Kyle Williams. Now Kyle
- 35:29was Matt's roommate at LSU and certainly they lived right
- 35:33above us. Man, we had some great times. He was
- 35:35the ultimate teammate, had an incredible motor. Have you been
- 35:39able to kind of see and maybe I hustle Kyle
- 35:42working and how that's been him working with the defensive line.
- 35:46Speaker 8: Oh yeah, I've had a couple of conversations with him too.
- 35:48I think I think he's a great fit for us,
- 35:50and I know all the d linemen respect him and
- 35:52respect respect his football career, and I think I think
- 35:57he's a perfect defensive line coach for a.
- 36:02Speaker 3: All right, with there's uh, We're you're a great football player.
- 36:06You seem like on social media a great fishermen as well.
- 36:10There's one thing that I think you've struggled with this spring,
- 36:13and that is coaching flag football. Uh you Uh, Blake
- 36:19Baker had to be somewhere this week. He was the case.
- 36:23All right. So my son, my son Hawk, who's listening
- 36:25right now, shout out to my son. Uh, but the
- 36:28elite bingles out there playing flag football, so they had
- 36:33to call all with Weeks in to be the defensive coordinator.
- 36:36I think Nussells running the offense as well. Like what
- 36:38a treat for these kids were But yeah, I think
- 36:42Wit was blitzing about four guys every play, letting them lose.
- 36:47We got beat, so I wouldn't want to.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Which we got to break it down, like what was
- 36:52the mindset? What defense were we thinking here?
- 36:55Speaker 8: We were being aggressive. I'm pretty sure we only let
- 36:57up two touchdowns. The offense couldn't put it in the end.
- 37:03You're gonna need to call Hi Nutsmeyer and get on
- 37:05him for that one.
- 37:06Speaker 3: That's a good gives it on the point.
- 37:08Speaker 2: You only give up two scores in flag football. I
- 37:10don't care what age like, you're doing something right. This
- 37:13is not on win. This is on nothing right.
- 37:15Speaker 3: It was funny too, all the kids because he can
- 37:17blitz in that league and all the kids every play, Uh,
- 37:20coach Wit, coach, Wait, can I blitz? He's like, yep,
- 37:22gouple blitz yeplitz yep.
- 37:24Speaker 8: Yeah. We were sitting. We were sitting in the house
- 37:26pretty much every play.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Playing cover zero kids, you better get home because we
- 37:32ain't got nothing back here in the back end. You
- 37:35know what, I think you and I have actually talked
- 37:37about this speaking of like blitzing, and obviously you do
- 37:40a good job of it. There is nothing worse as
- 37:43a running back than when one of you turns playing
- 37:46Mike linebacker comes through the A gap and like a
- 37:49double a mug any kind of a gap pressure because dude,
- 37:53you got a three way go on the running back.
- 37:55You can go left, right, you can go through the
- 37:57running back, and there's so much that I've got to protect.
- 38:00The quarterback's obviously going to be taking this drop. He's
- 38:03right there when you're blitzing through the A gap. I
- 38:06want to get inside your brain a little bit here.
- 38:08Do you predetermine what you're going to do? Is it
- 38:11based off the running backs leverage? Is it based off Look,
- 38:14this guy's one hundred and ninety five pounds soaking wet.
- 38:16I am bull rushing this guy. Like, where do you
- 38:19kind of go? Because you've had a lot of success
- 38:21doing it whenever your number's called to be the guy
- 38:24that go gets the quarterback.
- 38:26Speaker 8: Yeah, I would say it really starts on Mondays when
- 38:29you're getting your scouting report on the running backs. If
- 38:31you're blitzing a two hundred and thirty pound running back,
- 38:34you're not going to run right through his face. But
- 38:35if you're blitzing one hundred and ninety pound running back,
- 38:37you're running right through his face. So it really whatever
- 38:41the scattering report has on him, and we have tips
- 38:44and keys of all this, dude loses every time if
- 38:47he's trying to block a guy that's rushing to his
- 38:49right or vice versa, he's rushing to his left. So
- 38:52you really just got to take that into factor. And
- 38:55then also you know, in the spur of the moment,
- 38:57it's usually just run right through his face.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Yeah, win in doubt, win out, Yeah.
- 39:03Speaker 8: Yeah, exactly, win it out, run right through the state.
- 39:06I mean sometimes you put a little move on him
- 39:08and right and then you just go right through.
- 39:11Speaker 3: What's the what's the most satisfying feeling for you on
- 39:13the football field, beating or running back one on one,
- 39:16sacking the quarterback, or get an interception.
- 39:20Speaker 8: Definitely getting the sack. Nothing, Nothing beats the feeling of
- 39:23getting a sack because you know that you're just you're
- 39:25causing havoc whenever you get a sack.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I knew that. I knew that you knew that
- 39:32you knew the answer to that one real quick though.
- 39:34I do want to ask you kind of about the
- 39:36linebacker room. I think it's incredibly deep. And obviously you're
- 39:40gonna have your brothers in there, and that's incredibly cool.
- 39:43I mean I played one year of high school football
- 39:45with my older brother. It was awesome, amazing, certainly something
- 39:48I always cherish. And you're gonna get a chance to play.
- 39:50You know, you've been with Wes obviously for multiple years,
- 39:53and you've got your little brother who's going actually probably
- 39:56got here the other day last weekend, so you're gonna
- 39:58have three of you. So but it's it's a deep
- 40:00room overall. We're talking about the linebackers. I mean, what
- 40:03Devine Keys was able to do last year with I
- 40:05mean he was a bright spot. I mean that guy
- 40:07played star, he played next to you, He was kind
- 40:10of all over the place, a very smart football player.
- 40:13That room, man, it's going to be hard to get
- 40:14on the field in like a very good way. It's
- 40:16going to be a very competitive room.
- 40:19Speaker 8: Oh yeah, definitely, one hundred percent. I mean I would
- 40:21I would say we easily have the best linebacker line
- 40:24backing room in the country. You know, we have so
- 40:29many dudes that you could put out there at any
- 40:31time and feel comfortable with him playing. And I mean,
- 40:34that's what you want in the linebacker room.
- 40:37Speaker 2: And then obviously, you know, you start talking about you
- 40:39and Perk being back together, getting him back healthy. I'm
- 40:42excited to see him back at the star position. Man.
- 40:44I think it's a place that he can thrive. And
- 40:45you look at today's NFL game and like, he's like
- 40:48a perfect fit for kind of that nickel sam which
- 40:51is what you're looking for in the star role. Devine
- 40:54did a really nice job last year. But if it's
- 40:56you and him, and you and your brother all they're
- 40:58playing in the middle, then you've got harl Perkins at
- 41:00the star position. I really think that's the best case
- 41:03scenario for everybody.
- 41:05Speaker 8: Yeah, I do too, And I mean, I cannot wait
- 41:07to play with Perk again. He's so fun to be
- 41:09out there with. So I'm excited for that.
- 41:11Speaker 3: All right, last question for you, this is the simple one.
- 41:14Everybody wants to know. How's how's the like feeling.
- 41:17Speaker 8: It's good, It's we're getting there. I would say I'm
- 41:19about ninety five percent right now. Like I'm I'm clear
- 41:23for all football activity. I've been doing everything, but I
- 41:25just got to get that last little step back.
- 41:28Speaker 2: And look, if you're a card carrying member of Meathead Nation,
- 41:31if you're at eighty percent, you're one hundred percent. So
- 41:34not worried about that.
- 41:35Speaker 8: Man.
- 41:35Speaker 2: I am so ready to get you back on the field.
- 41:37And I go out there and watch y'all practice here
- 41:39coming up this summer. We appreciate the time.
- 41:42Speaker 8: Man.
- 41:42Speaker 2: I'm sure I'll holler at you see you at the facility.
- 41:44So we appreciate it, man, and best of luck as
- 41:46you come back.
- 41:48Speaker 8: Awesome. Yeah, I appreciate y'all having me on.
- 41:50Speaker 2: All right, there is LSU linebacker Wit Weeks good enough
- 41:52to join the show. And uh, if you listen to that,
- 41:56you know why he is back to back. Let's all
- 41:59meathhead team. It'll still magazine Drew faces. Yeah you knew that,
- 42:05no doubt. And yeah, Jack Tibron is certainly on the
- 42:07all Meahead team as well. You know who else I
- 42:09put on there? Put Aaron Anderson on there, because you
- 42:13look at we go, we go every position, right. I
- 42:16was like, you know what Aaron Anderson will do a
- 42:17little bit of whatever. Whatever you ask that guy to do, slot, outside, punt,
- 42:22kick returner, whatever. And I was like, there's a lot
- 42:25of people that had a lot to say about his game.
- 42:27He proved him all wrong last year, and everybody's talking
- 42:30about the other guys coming in the transfers. I'm like,
- 42:33you're leading receivers coming back, right, Aaron, and so he's
- 42:36on the meat.
- 42:37Speaker 3: You talked about what it's the motor that never stops,
- 42:40and you know, like when you game plan for a
- 42:42defense on offense, like when you watch a defensive line tackle.
- 42:46We used to say that in Green Bay about Kyle
- 42:47Williams when we played Buffalo or Kyle Vanner. But like
- 42:50the people that has the motor that never stops are
- 42:54the worst people that you just don't want to because
- 42:56you can't ever take a playoff, Like I remember Kyle
- 42:58vannerbisch would he Aaron one time when he threw it
- 43:02as he threw it and then he tackled Jordy Nelson
- 43:04sixty yards down the field.
- 43:05Speaker 2: Yeah, and he probably had those red contacts in where
- 43:07he had red eyes. He was like like, that's the
- 43:10kind of like when he was with the Lions probably, yeah, right.
- 43:13Speaker 3: The Lions. Yeah, but that is what whit brings. Yeah,
- 43:17not only talent and leadership, but it's the motor man
- 43:20motor that never stops. Makes it so difficult and a
- 43:23pain in the ass for offenses.
- 43:25Speaker 2: I hated blocking Jared Johnson when he was with the Ravens.
- 43:27Jared wasn't the most talented guy, but I'll be damn
- 43:30a son of a gun would come and come and
- 43:32just never ever stop. Like, hey, Bud, the play's way
- 43:36over there.
- 43:37Speaker 3: LSU fans like you to have mister Whipp.
- 43:39Speaker 2: No doubt, look at him all right. Last break of
- 43:41the show, asked a bench to finish up. I always
- 43:44want to say sponsored by somebody. It's not. It's open,
- 43:46by the way, if you want to sponsor, asked the bench,
- 43:48it's probably by nobody right now to finish No, it's not.
