- 0:00Jon: this week on Xenomania join us as we return to the world of alien
- 0:05chaos as we sit back and enjoy Critters two and the mayhem of these gremlin
- 0:14cannibalistic killer alien monster beasts This is Critters two This is Xenomania
- 0:39Kearns: Critters what was it It's a convention of critters Is
- 0:42that the line the sheriff yells
- 0:47Jon: there's so many good lines in this one
- 0:50Ryan: is.
- 0:50Kearns: if you hadn't guessed we're still on critters this week for Xenomania
- 0:54Ryan: 'cause like the last time we did this with Fantasm,
- 0:57it was phenomenal Critters.
- 0:58Were doing the same thing.
- 1:00Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:00Ryan: trying to find the line that I sent you guys.
- 1:02Oh, I gotta go
- 1:06I,
- 1:07Kearns: Yeah that's a pretty good one That's a pretty good one
- 1:09Ryan: I washing right now?
- 1:12Jon: I kinda like the one at the line when Brad jumps in the car with
- 1:16Megan early in the movie and it's he calls her Jimmy Olson with breasts
- 1:21Kearns: Yes.
- 1:24it's good It's got some good zingers in this movie
- 1:27Jon: Mm-hmm
- 1:28Kearns: as far as sequels go this one holds up big time
- 1:32Ryan: but it's
- 1:32Jon: Yeah.
- 1:33Ryan: that like David Toy and uh, Mick Garris like regret writing
- 1:38film I'm shocked.
- 1:40Yeah, they.
- 1:41Kearns: Really
- 1:41Ryan: They find it like it's not subpar to their work
- 1:45later in
- 1:48Kearns: well I mean
- 1:49Jon: But
- 1:50Kearns: Cameron did Piranhas
- 1:52right Piranha too
- 1:53Jon: I mean
- 1:54listen, listen Mick Garris is fine but if you go through his filmography he's
- 2:03fine Critters two does not stand out as especially bad among what he's done
- 2:08Ryan: has he done
- 2:10the,
- 2:10Jon: most notably
- 2:12Ryan: He directed Sleepwalks He wrote ho
- 2:17Kearns: Sleepwalks was a good movie I wonder when we're gonna do that
- 2:20Like probably 20 28 But sleep walkers I can't wait for Movies where the
- 2:25cats are part of the hero squad Right did not do hocus pocus My wife
- 2:31would love for me to do hocus pocus
- 2:32Jon: He he wrote Ho Hocus
- 2:34Kearns: okay He wrote it
- 2:35Jon: wrote Yeah
- 2:36Kearns: She's doing a dance for me over there She got excited I
- 2:41I still every few years I look into doing trying to get tickets
- 2:45for The ball to go there and bring
- 2:48Ryan: It's a,
- 2:49Kearns: Really it's a it's worthy dude
- 2:52Yeah It's worthy of your time
- 2:57Ryan: Parker.
- 2:58Jon: The only one of those like
- 2:59Kearns: Jessica Parker Yeah I
- 3:02Jon: the only one of those like chick heavy witch movies
- 3:05that I watched was The Craft
- 3:06Ryan: an awesome film
- 3:07Kearns: oh dude What about the witches of Eastwick
- 3:10We witches of eastwick is good
- 3:13Jon: I never watched
- 3:14Kearns: Yeah Where he's like they're he's banging em all
- 3:17like it's pure Jack Nicholson
- 3:20Jon: but she Cher's in that right
- 3:22Kearns: yeah
- 3:23Jon: Uh I I can't
- 3:25share generally takes me out of things
- 3:27Kearns: clearly doesn't believe in life after love Then
- 3:30Jon: I I believe in life after love I just you know I believe that I
- 3:35could turn back the hands of time
- 3:38Kearns: I like how we're all doing the stuff she did when she sucked at singing
- 3:42Jon: Mm-hmm
- 3:42Kearns: like Assless
- 3:43Jon: I mean yeah
- 3:45Ryan: a,
- 3:45Jon: I,
- 3:45Ryan: a ironic, like interesting time for music,
- 3:52Kearns: none of this stuff's on the outline I love it
- 3:56Jon: first episode we have an outline for and we are
- 3:59Kearns: man Woo Oh
- 4:02Ryan: well,
- 4:03Kearns: I you know what That's probably gonna be the best part of the show though
- 4:06Ryan: share on that
- 4:09We do start off,
- 4:11Kearns: Share.
- 4:11Ryan: off
- 4:12Kearns: Oh, okay.
- 4:12Ryan: space.
- 4:13We got Ugg, we got Lee, we got Charlie and
- 4:21Kearns: Was anybody else like confused when they saw Charlie wondering if
- 4:24he was Lee as Charlie or if he was just Charlie and then he makes that
- 4:29stupid face when he gets saved I was like oh that's probably Charlie
- 4:32Jon: it took me a second to remember that Charlie was in space at that point so
- 4:37Kearns: because I didn't know that he left with them They just show him
- 4:39like walking up the hill with them
- 4:41Jon: Mm-hmm
- 4:41Kearns: kind of asking him questions I didn't know he left
- 4:44Jon: And they say one of the little bits of trivia from this movie too is the
- 4:48faceless bounty hunters When they haven't adopted somebody's personality and look
- 4:54yet that tho they're portrayed by a retired male adult star named Randy Spears
- 5:03Kearns: Oh I know him about Randy Spears I mean oh really Randy Spears
- 5:06What her name What an interesting name
- 5:08Jon: it's quite a male adult actor name
- 5:12Kearns: Yes surely it is
- 5:15just not really Google Something real quick
- 5:20Jon: If you know what he looks like you can kind of see it too Even with the
- 5:24the like mask you can kind of see it Yeah you can yeah You can kind of see it
- 5:30Kearns: camera above his his waistline the whole movie so it
- 5:33doesn't
- 5:33Jon: Yeah Be because that because as as an adult actor he can't
- 5:37wear clothes the whole movie so
- 5:40Kearns: no
- 5:41Jon: bottomless every scene he is in they just don't show it
- 5:47Kearns: Oh boy Critters to everybody Okay so
- 5:52Jon: Walk the rail
- 5:53Kearns: We do start off in space and we do see that our little boy Bradley
- 5:58is coming back into the town where the critters one took place Bradley being the
- 6:02cute little boy who was you know saved his family by riding his bike to go get
- 6:07help and finding the bounty hunters And um returns and immediately the busy bodies
- 6:13over at the local newspaper I forget it's like the I don't know hillbilly
- 6:17Gazette They uh they they're oh Bradley's back in town and the guy's like we're
- 6:24trying to forget about that boy's stories about them critters and he immediately
- 6:28Jon: Yeah
- 6:28Kearns: good lines out
- 6:30Jon: Yeah Brad returns home to less than a hero's welcome He's kind of just the like
- 6:36local kook Pariah But I mean most of those people are really making him a villain
- 6:43Ryan: he tries to stay
- 6:43Kearns: Yeah.
- 6:45Ryan: like, in the beginning of the film, like avoiding
- 6:49and just trying to avoid anything and everything.
- 6:52Jon: Yeah.
- 6:54Ryan: just like, it, you could see from, um, the actor's portrayal as Brad, you
- 6:58can see the character carrying that,
- 7:01and you see it right in the beginning.
- 7:02It's like, I
- 7:03Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 7:04Ryan: the past, but I have to
- 7:06it too.
- 7:07And I feel like this is, like, for this
- 7:09Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 7:09Ryan: just like the story is more about closure in this
- 7:13Just to get a
- 7:16Jon: Yeah.
- 7:17Yeah I I
- 7:18Kearns: for critters too For sure
- 7:20Jon: Yeah I mean I
- 7:23it's
- 7:24Kearns: dive hitting the emotions
- 7:26Jon: he's very willing to play along at the beginning that it was a hoax that
- 7:31he just made some stuff up because he he he's not there looking for closure He's
- 7:36there to visit grandma who they left behind when they moved to the big city
- 7:43No you don't know she exists in the first film
- 7:46Kearns: Yeah they wrote
- 7:47Jon: They needed a reason for Brad to go back
- 7:49Kearns: Yep And they do tie in the eggs which is nice even though they
- 7:53don't really wrap up like much at all It's like there's just a mound of
- 7:56eggs in the barn that was abandoned when the family left two years ago
- 8:00Jon: Mm-hmm
- 8:00Kearns: lived there for two years is what they said So it's like all right well
- 8:03Brad's gotta be what like years older
- 8:07Ryan: Yeah,
- 8:09Jon: Yeah
- 8:11But it doesn't they don't really seem to act like it's
- 8:15that much time in movie years
- 8:17Kearns: No and they yeah there's that and there's
- 8:20Jon: It
- 8:21Kearns: eight years isn't long enough to forget that A UFO is just
- 8:24Jon: mm-hmm
- 8:24Kearns: too Like for the people who live in the town
- 8:26Jon: Mm-hmm
- 8:27Kearns: kind of town a lot of people leave
- 8:28Ryan: no.
- 8:29Jon: Yeah
- 8:30Ryan: That old, like old
- 8:35Kearns: So they not really a stain on the movie but definitely suspend
- 8:38your disbelief kind of script writing for those two parts at least
- 8:42is
- 8:42Jon: Yeah
- 8:42Kearns: It's critters too It's not that serious I
- 8:44Ryan: a fun
- 8:45Jon: Yeah.
- 8:46Ryan: and like it starts off, especially when, uh, Mr. Quigley and Wesley and they
- 8:52and stuff, which, first off, at the end of the first
- 8:55Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 8:55Ryan: only three eggs.
- 8:57did we go from three to
- 9:02Kearns: you are asking all the
- 9:03Jon: Mitosis
- 9:04Kearns: buddy Yeah yeah
- 9:06These are this is an advanced alien
- 9:08Jon: myosis I forget which process splits the at the egg mitosis meiosis
- 9:14Kearns: See you in the comments everybody We're not gonna look it up We're too lazy
- 9:20Jon: I wouldn't understand it even when I read it
- 9:23Kearns: Yeah Don't worry about it
- 9:25We all know eggs split
- 9:26Jon: Yeah
- 9:27Kearns: it
- 9:27Jon: Yeah
- 9:28Kearns: That's how this happened For sure So there's a lot more
- 9:31than three for sure And they
- 9:34Jon: But
- 9:34Kearns: up for a
- 9:35Jon: what
- 9:35Kearns: was it what was the kind of beer
- 9:37Jon: me brow
- 9:38Kearns: brow
- 9:39is what he wanted That's not what he got
- 9:42Jon: No no He he just got beer Beer
- 9:45Kearns: yeah Beer Beer Which so he took double
- 9:49Jon: Which I mean honestly he probably should have taken
- 9:52less to not get Meister Brow
- 9:55Kearns: I mean what's the equivalent of Meister Brow I mean is a real beer meister
- 9:59Jon: Meister Brows A real beer Meister Brow was a real beer real bad beer
- 10:04Kearns: pep blue ribbon conversation style conversation coming
- 10:08Jon: Like this was this was kind of like when I was of the age where
- 10:15you were sneaking beers This was the like this was like Milwaukee's
- 10:20best North Northeast version
- 10:23Kearns: Oh
- 10:25Okay
- 10:26Okay
- 10:27Jon: It was the same sort of
- 10:29Kearns: The beast
- 10:30Jon: appeal Like it wasn't expensive so you could get a lot of it because
- 10:36you needed a lot of it to feel much
- 10:38Ryan: Alright.
- 10:39Co light vibes
- 10:41Jon: Yeah.
- 10:41My,
- 10:42Kearns: Watery.
- 10:44Jon: so Co Coors Coors Light is craft beer compared to Meister
- 10:49bro if I remember correctly
- 10:52Kearns: Oh
- 10:53thank you No thank you Grab Miller High Life afterward just to feel
- 10:58alive again That kind of beer
- 11:00Jon: Yeah yeah the kind of beer that made Miller High Life the champagne of beers
- 11:05Kearns: you go So the gentleman Quigley doesn't really isn't interested in
- 11:11the eggs at all in the beginning And uh what's his name Wesley
- 11:14Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 11:16Kearns: Yeah He um princess Bride dread Pirate Roberts He convinces him
- 11:20to take them and they I like the the denominations of money in this movie make
- 11:27me realize just how far we've slipped as a society because I believe Mr Quigley
- 11:31sells half of them or something for 20 bucks But He paid two cases of beer
- 11:36for the whole thing So two cases of beer is a lot more than 20 bucks today
- 11:41Ryan: So
- 11:42He
- 11:46Jon: He made
- 11:47Kearns: two cases of
- 11:47Jon: he made a he made
- 11:48Ryan: yeah.
- 11:49Kearns: 11 bucks maybe
- 11:50Jon: maybe
- 11:52for Meister Brow were probably less than 11 bucks for two cases
- 11:57Kearns: Yeah
- 12:00Yeah things were cheaper A pack of cigarettes in the
- 12:03mid nineties was like under
- 12:04Jon: Mm-hmm
- 12:06Kearns: Gallon of gas was a dollar 35 when I was just starting to drive Oh that
- 12:12one hit hard actually Sorry about that Listeners things ain't great at the pump
- 12:17Jon: Nine 9 cents a gallon Man
- 12:20Kearns: Oh stop it it right now Two digits
- 12:23Jon: Remember how mad I was the first time I had to get a dollar 29
- 12:28Kearns: Oof
- 12:29Ryan: now we're up to almost $4.
- 12:34Kearns: Uh, we're gonna be well over that soon buddy You're gonna be missing $4 soon
- 12:38Jon: Yo
- 12:39Kearns: be wishing the crits would come down here and wipe you out I want
- 12:44I wanna get a little hit of whatever they got in those spines baby You know
- 12:48what I mean I could relax right now
- 12:50Jon: Yeah I I could tell I'd have a pet a pet cripe just to
- 12:54for you know a quill a night
- 12:56Kearns: Yeah let's go right out just
- 12:58Jon: get eight hours
- 12:59Kearns: it out
- 13:00Ryan: you gotta
- 13:00Jon: Yeah
- 13:01Kearns: you up
- 13:02Jon: Yeah Hun
- 13:03hun May make
- 13:05Kearns: love
- 13:05Jon: Make make sure you put make sure you pull that quill out in
- 13:08the morning so I can go to work and
- 13:11Kearns: Pop it right back in Maybe pop it in for your lunch break
- 13:14Jon: Yeah
- 13:15Kearns: You never know You never know It's endless endless possibilities I
- 13:21really think we could have had a symbiotic relationship with those little critters
- 13:25Jon: I think we could have
- 13:26Kearns: Yeah
- 13:27Jon: we could have
- 13:27Kearns: Well I mean we'll make anything work for narcotics as a species
- 13:32Jon: absolutely
- 13:34Kearns: So back to the beginning plot of the film so we have the eggs
- 13:38The eggs are in the fray They're out there and they're getting ready
- 13:41for the big Easter celebration
- 13:44Jon: Yeah Which makes critters to an Easter movie right
- 13:47Kearns: Yes I could say that That's definitely true
- 13:50Ryan: the whole
- 13:51Jon: Mm-hmm
- 13:52Kearns: How many Easter movies
- 13:54Yeah Where it's Not adjacent Now It is a Christmas movie but how many
- 13:58Easter movies are there Not a whole lot
- 14:03Jon: Not technically an Easter movie but we made it one
- 14:06Kearns: Yeah Well cause
- 14:08Jon: Um
- 14:08Kearns: Rabbit
- 14:09Jon: there's a there's a couple of Killer Bunny movies
- 14:13Kearns: Yeah Like a
- 14:14Jon: the Bunny Man Massacre There's a couple of those
- 14:18Kearns: you ever see that old video on the internet The Easter Bunny hates you
- 14:23Well the original title is the Easter Bunny Effing Hates You It's a dude in an
- 14:26Easter bunny costume for eight and a half minutes It's a montage of him beating the
- 14:30crap out of people and it's well crafted It's obviously fake but I mean you're
- 14:36Jon: Mm-hmm
- 14:36Kearns: good stuff Like there's one where he is beating up
- 14:38some dude and a train goes
- 14:39Jon: Mm-hmm
- 14:40Kearns: it finishes going by and the dude's body's just laying there
- 14:42and the body's gone It just seems
- 14:44Ryan: it a spiritual
- 14:45Kearns: yeah,
- 14:45Ryan: Rats after the Easter Bunny gets the crab
- 14:48Kearns: no.
- 14:52Maybe have been inspired by that
- 14:53Jon: That was that was for Brody
- 14:55Kearns: for Brody
- 14:56Jon: Mallrats is an Easter movie Absolutely
- 14:59Kearns: Really
- 15:00Jon: Yeah I mean there's a a mall Easter Bunny
- 15:03Kearns: Yeah I suppose you're right I suppose you're right If you guys
- 15:07Jon: which is a sailboat stupid head
- 15:09Ryan: Schooner
- 15:13Kearns: now
- 15:14Jon: sooner is a sailboat stupid head
- 15:17Kearns: That's a good scene Very good Scene sirs All right so hit
- 15:22me with kind of how this kicks up a notch Brad So chick's got the
- 15:25hots for Bradley That's nice by the
- 15:27Jon: Mm-hmm
- 15:28Kearns: One who's
- 15:28Jon: Good for
- 15:29Kearns: his league
- 15:30Jon: draw on the older ladies
- 15:32Kearns: Yeah
- 15:33Jon: Good for him yeah the eggs start to hatch it very irregular intervals
- 15:39Kearns: Yeah they don't they don't get into that either
- 15:41It just happens There's no
- 15:43Jon: Mm-hmm
- 15:43Kearns: to hatch ratio or anything
- 15:45Jon: Yeah Yeah
- 15:46Kearns: the first one to catch it isn't he
- 15:49Jon: Um yeah And his dog his dog is technically the first one to get it
- 15:53Kearns: Sorry about that Doggie don't like a
- 15:55Jon: Yeah
- 15:55Kearns: to the movie but if it's the critters
- 15:57Ryan: and you just see the bones.
- 15:58But like he really kicks it off by putting a heat lamp right next to
- 16:06Kearns: Oh so he did warm them up enough I I apologize listeners
- 16:10Jon: Well he he
- 16:12he warmed those ones up but then the ones that grandma winds up
- 16:16with Hatch and you get you get the scene of the kids like painting
- 16:22Ryan: was so
- 16:22Jon: Crete eggs.
- 16:24Ryan: I thought the kids were going to get into a lot of trouble while
- 16:27they were painting those eggs.
- 16:28I was very, very nervous that they were gonna go a step, especially for 1988, that
- 16:35was really
- 16:38Jon: yeah 8 8 88 Those kids are pretty safe
- 16:43Ryan: when the critter hatchling opens in the bedroom, like, I thought she was
- 16:47gonna get nipped because when Quigley gets it, like these critters are like nastier.
- 16:53They're more ravenous and you see like a, like his
- 16:56Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 16:59Kearns: Yeah
- 17:00they really get after it
- 17:01Jon: Yep
- 17:01Ryan: which
- 17:02Jon: Yep
- 17:02Ryan: in that
- 17:03Jon: Yeah.
- 17:03' Ryan: cause that it's, it's not like a gremlin, like these critters are
- 17:06just like, They're nasty things.
- 17:12Kearns: They're meaner than the gremlins Yeah
- 17:14Even
- 17:15Jon: Mm-hmm Mm-hmm
- 17:16Kearns: that are usually there with Spike or Mohawks that are
- 17:18really really bad Obra gremlins
- 17:21Jon: Yeah
- 17:22Kearns: are all bad Obras
- 17:24Jon: Yeah Yeah But I mean you you have scenes in this one where they are never
- 17:30more gremlins than ever Like the the Hungry Heifers scene could have been a
- 17:36scene from a Gremlins movie where they're just tearing through a restaurant Yeah
- 17:40Kearns: mention they Americanized them pretty well by making them
- 17:42addicted to cheeseburgers And hamburgers It's pretty funny but
- 17:47Jon: And I mean once the mayhem starts the mayhem is on the rest of the way too
- 17:53Kearns: Which
- 17:54Jon: get
- 17:55Kearns: Which
- 17:55Jon: get crate you get crates in the Sheriff's Easter Bunny suit
- 17:58Kearns: Yeah
- 17:59Jon: Harv har Harv was voted out of office at somewhere
- 18:03between the two movies and recast
- 18:07Kearns: Yes and recast
- 18:08two
- 18:10Jon: to
- 18:11Kearns: Ryan knows the actor's name
- 18:12Ryan: and we lose M em at Walsh, sadly.
- 18:14Kearns: Yeah.
- 18:15Ryan: I mean, it's fine.
- 18:17I feel like different actors, two different portrayals
- 18:24Kearns: One's more of a slob
- 18:26Jon: mm-hmm
- 18:26Ryan: got
- 18:27Kearns: Yeah.
- 18:28Ryan: Walsh has more of like that elegant sheriff look,
- 18:32you know, a little stutter.
- 18:34Jon: Yeah.
- 18:35Yeah.
- 18:37Corbin goes on to be Vance Johnson of the FBI Johnsons and diehard
- 18:43Kearns: Yeah sir
- 18:47That's his claim to fame now
- 18:49Jon: Yep
- 18:50Kearns: His IMDB page is fun
- 18:52Jon: Yeah Yeah He's been a lot of stuff
- 18:55Ryan: that's the best thing.
- 18:55When you're a character actor, you pop up everywhere and anywhere and
- 18:59it's like you don't know the name, but you're like, I really like
- 19:04know?
- 19:06Kearns: Yeah you
- 19:06Jon: Mm-hmm
- 19:06Kearns: on anything It's great
- 19:08Jon: Mm-hmm
- 19:09Kearns: That's great I think about Stanley Tucci roles I'm like he's
- 19:12been at some of the most brilliant he he is a performance that's uh
- 19:15unmissable uh the TV show Fortitude You'll see it and you'll just be like
- 19:22this guy is the greatest actor to ever
- 19:24Jon: Yeah
- 19:24Kearns: then you'll
- 19:24Jon: Yeah
- 19:25Kearns: announcer in the Hunger Games like he fell out of an Archie comic and
- 19:30got spray painted on the street and he's in Hunger Games Just like what are you
- 19:34doing Tucci It doesn't matter man Tucci needs to be paid Tucci needs to eat
- 19:40Jon: Yeah
- 19:41Kearns: But no,
- 19:42Jon: Yeah
- 19:42Kearns: just
- 19:42Jon: He needs money
- 19:43Ryan: he was in
- 19:44Jon: He needs money
- 19:45Ryan: quick, easy
- 19:49uh
- 19:49Kearns: Oh it's one of the best It's not based on the Scarlet Letter It
- 19:52it's got the Scarlet Letter in it to help it with its plot to like
- 19:59hammer home Its plot Yeah I'll say
- 20:00Jon: Mm-hmm
- 20:01Ryan: We can say I, I, it resonates better.
- 20:06I think.
- 20:06I like the Scarlet Letter.
- 20:07I'm not saying anything, you know, I love literature, but to see Stanley Tucci in
- 20:11that movie, that was a great shocker.
- 20:13'cause he wasn't even advertised.
- 20:15It was just Emma Stone.
- 20:16I was taking a date to see it, and then I popped for
- 20:22Kearns: Yes
- 20:24Jon: Emma Stone who in a fair and just world by the time you're
- 20:27listening to this should have a third Best Actors award But will not
- 20:32Kearns: Nah this this uh academy Award's gonna piss me off a lot a whole lot The
- 20:37only one I agree with that's gonna go down is probably um um what is it Marty Supreme
- 20:44Jon: I
- 20:44Kearns: Tim
- 20:45Jon: I hope he I hope he doesn't win I don't like that dude
- 20:48that dude Rub me the wrong way
- 20:49Kearns: think he's probably the most deserving in that role We would end up
- 20:52talking about this for four hours So I'm gonna say this this is gonna be Patreon
- 20:55material You people have to pay for this We're not talking about the Academy
- 21:00Awards right now we are talking about is the dead sheriff sheriff gets eaten
- 21:04Jon: Yep Sheriff
- 21:05Kearns: his
- 21:06Jon: in in in a bunny suit and we get the bounty hunters back too
- 21:11Kearns: Yep
- 21:12Jon: ugly And Charlie and
- 21:14Kearns: gotta tell you guys too I got a I've got a bit of
- 21:16a thing for Lee in this movie
- 21:18Jon: uh yeah
- 21:19Kearns: place it
- 21:20Jon: Lee
- 21:21Lee initially still has not found his body but
- 21:25Ryan: him.
- 21:27Kearns: found
- 21:27Jon: 1 1 1
- 21:29dirty dusty road copy of Playboy gives him a direction
- 21:35Kearns: indeed
- 21:36Ryan: Kernohan,
- 21:37Kearns: and the directions pointing straight ahead
- 21:40Jon: right down to the staple in the abdomen
- 21:43Ryan: is,
- 21:44Kearns: Ha ha
- 21:45Ryan: tidbit
- 21:47I feel like
- 21:48Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 21:49It's a good touch.
- 21:50Ryan: off, it should have had like a little blood flowing, but like just
- 21:53pulling it off and just throwing it this side, like It's just, just a prop.
- 22:00Kearns: So we you guys you might not remember Critters two It's from
- 22:03a magazine So the spread is on two pages with a staple in the seam
- 22:08Hence the staple in the abdomen
- 22:10Jon: the centerfold
- 22:12Kearns: Yeah the centerfold Exactly
- 22:13Jon: centerfold
- 22:14Kearns: to put it But you know they're they're some of em are
- 22:16listening you know on I gotta help him out with a little visual language
- 22:22But yeah he's a super hot porn star now which is great
- 22:26Jon: Yeah
- 22:27Kearns: kids
- 22:28Jon: Yeah Charlie's pretty happy about it
- 22:30Kearns: Yeah He was not upset whatsoever He did run after Lee with the clothes
- 22:34saying You're gonna need these
- 22:36Jon: Yeah Yeah
- 22:37Ryan: like,
- 22:39Kearns: killed Crites Yeah
- 22:40I was
- 22:41that's when I really started to fall in love Was the kill kretz chanting So the
- 22:46Jon: Yeah
- 22:47Kearns: that they oh they get called back By the way we kind of glossed over
- 22:50this the one of the weird goony aliens that's in charge or pays the bounty
- 22:54hunters comes on and says we scanned and this there's we scanned kretz on
- 22:59the earth They're still there And so the bounty hunters get sent back from
- 23:04their current hunty hunting bounty stuff
- 23:07Jon: Mm-hmm
- 23:07Ryan: wasn't a fan of how they looked in this film.
- 23:10say that like they're superiors.
- 23:13'cause in the first one I feel like the blue, they're floating.
- 23:16It had more of that alien feel like this.
- 23:18This
- 23:19looked like, I don't, I like claymation, but I was
- 23:22Kearns: I
- 23:23Ryan: looks so claymation.
- 23:24It's so out of place.
- 23:25Like it felt like forced,
- 23:28you know, it's like empire strikes back
- 23:30Jon: Yes.
- 23:31Ryan: had the original palpatine
- 23:33with the whole, it's, it
- 23:36Kearns: Oh yeah.
- 23:37Ryan: updated it years later.
- 23:39That's the vibe I was getting with it.
- 23:41It doesn't like hurt it, but it was like, ugh.
- 23:43It
- 23:47Kearns: I did notice the difference between the first one these The first
- 23:51one was a dude makeup This one was a puppet or claymation like you said it
- 23:55was definitely more practical effects
- 23:58Jon: Mm-hmm
- 23:58Kearns: the first but yeah he kind of looked like um you know a cat turds are
- 24:02swirly like soft ice cream kind of They can do that That's kind of what the
- 24:05alien guy looks like now He's all swirly
- 24:07Jon: Yeah Yeah
- 24:09Kearns: yeah It's kind of like
- 24:10Jon: yeah
- 24:10Kearns: see the way the turd meanders down that's what we're dealing with
- 24:15Yeah There you go There you go um but this might be a good time This is
- 24:21kind of the halfway point of the movie
- 24:23Jon: it is
- 24:24Kearns: for us to get into a little stash or slash there John
- 24:28Jon: Oh
- 24:31I I suspect there is going to be some heartbreak at the end of this one
- 24:35Kearns: am not looking forward to this at all I'm so brain dead right
- 24:38now too Oh I can't I can't try to like outthink his game at the moment
- 24:44Jon: I mean I don't
- 24:45I
- 24:45don't
- 24:46I don't think there's outthinking this one
- 24:49Kearns: Oh God damn
- 24:52Jon: I I broke I broke Allison with this game
- 24:55Kearns: I can't slash Jessica Alba First of all you
- 24:58Jon: It's all right Well before we start remember Stash three slash five
- 25:05Kearns: I can't look at her
- 25:08Ryan: We're all
- 25:08Kearns: That's my childhood right there
- 25:13Jon: we are doing horror comedies Yep
- 25:16Ryan: Okay.
- 25:16Kearns: at a fox I didn't realize that was her in that movie
- 25:20Jon: Yeah
- 25:21Kearns: it Obviously I love this movie
- 25:25This
- 25:26Jon: yeah
- 25:26Kearns: do like the heavy play on what they do in uh American
- 25:29Werewolf in London with like the friend Goul that never goes away
- 25:34Jon: Yep
- 25:34Kearns: It's
- 25:35Jon: Do friend
- 25:35Kearns: of like did that times
- 25:36Jon: Yep
- 25:37Kearns: two
- 25:37Jon: Yep
- 25:38Kearns: It's good movie
- 25:40Jon: So Kern stashing or slashing
- 25:43Kearns: I got a slash but I like this movie a lot I just don't trust you
- 25:47Jon: You shouldn't
- 25:48Ryan: Yeah, I'm
- 25:50It's a good
- 25:52Jon: you should not trust me
- 25:54Kearns: But what if it's all
- 25:55Jon: I definitely watched this
- 25:56Kearns: three and we slash three that we liked
- 26:02Oh God if he's that evil tonight I might not talk to him this week
- 26:05Ryan: and loving it.
- 26:05Repossessed.
- 26:06Scary movie.
- 26:08know.
- 26:08I shriek if you know what I did last Friday, the 13th.
- 26:13Yeah.
- 26:17Jon: Oh let's see Here's number two
- 26:22Kearns: I don't mind slashing this one didn't have a ton of love for this movie
- 26:26Jon: I love
- 26:27Kearns: interesting watch like fun movie to mess around with your
- 26:30friends about it and stuff But it's
- 26:34Jon: directed by Yep
- 26:37Kearns: Oh yeah Okay
- 26:39Ryan: Michael
- 26:39Kearns: That's great
- 26:41Ryan: uh, I
- 26:43Jon: Elizabeth Thanks
- 26:45Kearns: Elizabeth Thanks.
- 26:48I'm gonna slash slither Yeah it's like fun It was It's fun that it exists and
- 26:52I like I don't dislike this film However
- 26:55Ryan: early days.
- 26:56Really.
- 26:56And it like kind of propelled him to where he
- 27:01another.
- 27:02Kearns: the new Superman was very good
- 27:05I enjoyed it
- 27:06If you're gonna make a post cavel Superman this is the way to do it
- 27:10Ryan: gonna be amazing with Brainiac,
- 27:15Kearns: Yeah You're gonna need something like that to up the ante I
- 27:20Ryan: Lobo
- 27:22Jon: Yeah.
- 27:23Kearns: That's
- 27:24Jon: I mean, I in e in Elizabeth Banks stories she made my one of my favorite um
- 27:31animal attack movies of the last five or 10 years Yeah She directed a cocaine bear
- 27:37Kearns: That's
- 27:38Jon: Yeah
- 27:41All right Movie number three
- 27:42Kearns: good
- 27:47Ryan: Well
- 27:47Jon: Movie number three
- 27:55So how do we feel about tremors
- 28:02Yeah you can only imagine if I put tremors up this early
- 28:05Kearns: Well it's a trap much like a oid
- 28:09Jon: There's a trap
- 28:09Kearns: a trap
- 28:11It's a trap It's a trap that I'm gonna fall for though because it's tremors
- 28:17I gotta I gotta stash this man It's tremors You're evil John
- 28:22Ryan: because this is
- 28:23Kearns: You're evil.
- 28:24Ryan: so
- 28:28Yeah.
- 28:29Kearns: five more to go
- 28:30Ryan: There's if, um, with your evil mind, there's,
- 28:35I'm not,
- 28:36Kearns: Ye of little faith in that
- 28:39I can't believe that Kevin Bacon should haunt your dreams tonight buddy
- 28:45I mean always
- 28:46Jon: I I am I am Go When we're done recording I'm gonna spend the rest of the
- 28:50night sending you Reba McEntire videos
- 28:53Ryan: WWE
- 28:55Kearns: You know what I noticed
- 28:57I noticed for the first time it's these small when you watch see this
- 29:00you think it's the big grab boy like the whole grab boy But it's just the
- 29:04Jon: Mm-hmm Yep
- 29:05Kearns: and just realized
- 29:07and they don't have teeth in the movie either
- 29:09Ryan: I love how they make Kevin Bacon the star and I feel like he was
- 29:12like, I don't know, like he was like a
- 29:15Fred Ward,
- 29:18Jon: Yeah.
- 29:19But Kevin Bacon was the name
- 29:24Yeah
- 29:25Kearns: of course As
- 29:26Jon: All right
- 29:27Kearns: catch Of course
- 29:29Ryan: Yes.
- 29:30Jon: Fred Ward was good in everything
- 29:34All right No no he isn't
- 29:37Kearns: Fred
- 29:37Jon: No
- 29:39Yeah I think he died
- 29:40Kearns: before or after Tim Curry
- 29:43Jon: Um before
- 29:44Kearns: Oh
- 29:44Jon: before I'm gonna get you a date on that Hold up
- 29:49Ryan: cheat.
- 29:53Kearns: Oh uh
- 29:55Jon: in in 2022
- 29:57Kearns: oh wow That's recent too huh Well I mean
- 30:01Jon: He was 79
- 30:03Ryan: that
- 30:04Kearns: still too young man
- 30:05Ryan: the
- 30:05Jon: Yep
- 30:06Ryan: Got 'em.
- 30:07Jon: All right
- 30:10Ryan: Movie
- 30:10Jon: What are we movie four
- 30:13There's that one What
- 30:17Kearns: This is a good one to throw us off our game cause this is the first one too
- 30:22Jon: Yep
- 30:22Kearns: kicked off everything
- 30:28I gotta slash it
- 30:30Ryan: I'll
- 30:30Kearns: I gotta slash it
- 30:32Ryan: the
- 30:34and
- 30:35Kearns: It's iconic
- 30:38Shannon Elizabeth dude
- 30:40Jon: Yeah
- 30:41Kearns: that era that 10 years from the pie onward
- 30:44Ryan: We just
- 30:44Jon: Yep.
- 30:44Ryan: mom we ate it.
- 30:50I feel well.
- 30:51Thank you.
- 30:52Yeah, we're not getting into American Pie, but this one time at Band
- 30:55Camp we were talking about scary movie it just, it's, it's funny.
- 31:00It like, I feel like it propelled horror comedy again,
- 31:06and stuff.
- 31:07And I feel
- 31:08Kearns: Oh yeah.
- 31:08Big time.
- 31:09Ryan: feel like it's gonna do the same thing with the Wayne's brothers backing.
- 31:12Oh C the Waynes brothers backing control the, the trailers out of
- 31:19Jon: I don't I wasn't overwhelmed
- 31:23Kearns: I mean
- 31:24Jon: I wasn't
- 31:24Kearns: be overwhelmed It's it's
- 31:26Jon: I mean
- 31:27Kearns: movie reboot
- 31:28Jon: Yeah It's it's you know it's it is it's gonna be what it is It's uh you know
- 31:34Kearns: what we should be talking about what's far more important is that Ryan
- 31:37saved scary movie and he cut tremors
- 31:41Jon: Yeah
- 31:41Ryan: different.
- 31:42Jon: That's
- 31:42Kearns: about that
- 31:43Jon: that's tough
- 31:44Ryan: Tremors later.
- 31:45I saw a scary movie first.
- 31:51Jon: I dunno man All right Before we before we destroy
- 31:54Ryan movie number four five
- 31:56Kearns: Oh
- 32:01see we
- 32:02Jon: the Lord
- 32:03Kearns: should slash this but John might want us to think that Ted
- 32:08Alive is a stash Man How do you
- 32:13John you got me questioning my reality right now
- 32:16Ryan: is movie
- 32:20Jon: this is movie five
- 32:21Kearns: We need three more after this
- 32:23Jon: Uh
- 32:24Ryan: love Dead of
- 32:24Kearns: There's no way
- 32:26Ryan: something If
- 32:29Kearns: slash dead alive
- 32:30Ryan: Frankenstein
- 32:34Kearns: uh what do you why do you think it's uh that's
- 32:36that one specifically though
- 32:37Jon: Yeah you're
- 32:40you are
- 32:41really, really locked into me putting young Frankenstein on here
- 32:45Ryan: on there.
- 32:45Unless you put
- 32:49Kearns: That's also a stash I mean it might that's more of
- 32:52that's less of a stash than
- 32:54Ryan: wine, I
- 32:54Kearns: young Frankenstein Uh
- 32:58all right dudes I'm gonna I'm gonna stash dead alive I I'm gonna go for
- 33:02it I can't get rid of it Look at that little guy in there just staring at me.
- 33:06Ryan: me
- 33:07Kearns: Say don't slash me.
- 33:11Jon: I purposely went and found one that's called Dead Alive and not brain damage
- 33:16cause this is what I it's it was always to me it was always dead alive I don't
- 33:20know when it became brain damage but
- 33:22Kearns: I didn't know it had I might have slashed
- 33:24Jon: yeah
- 33:25Kearns: happening It's it is dead alive yeah
- 33:28it is dead
- 33:29Jon: Yeah
- 33:29Kearns: The end
- 33:30Ryan: Right in the
- 33:31right in the front.
- 33:34Kearns: Mm-hmm.
- 33:36Jon: This needs a good physical release soon
- 33:39Ryan: a
- 33:40Jon: Oh they absolutely would But Peter Jackson has all the rights to
- 33:44his early movies so it's all up to him
- 33:47Ryan: I,
- 33:49Jon: It's all up to him
- 33:51because none of it none of his early stuff got has gotten a good rerelease yet
- 33:56Ryan: physical,
- 34:00Jon: It could
- 34:01Kearns: I am
- 34:01Jon: could
- 34:01Kearns: to feel like a re-release right now What's the next movie
- 34:04Jon: Next movie cabin
- 34:08Kearns: no I love this movie so much Oh John
- 34:15Ryan: I am, I'm, I'm
- 34:17Kearns: can't cut this
- 34:19Ryan: saw
- 34:22Kearns: That means there's Two more after this
- 34:24or one more
- 34:25Jon: Two more after this
- 34:28Kearns: Can I live with myself with dead alive Cabin in the
- 34:30woods and tremors Yes I can
- 34:33Ryan: choice.
- 34:34Kearns: You're You're already shot dude You're already shot
- 34:37already shot
- 34:38Jon: That means one of you is assured of breaking my heart
- 34:44Kearns: That would be me
- 34:45Jon: Yeah it would be you because you have
- 34:48Kearns: slash this I
- 34:50Jon: you have
- 34:51Kearns: lovecraftian It's there's Eldridge Gods in it I can't
- 34:55Jon: you
- 34:56Kearns: this
- 34:56Jon: have to slash the last two which are probably my two favorite on this list
- 35:01Kearns: Uh well it's your own fault for being a meanie pants I'm
- 35:06Jon: Movie
- 35:06Kearns: it Screw this
- 35:08Jon: Movie Seven
- 35:10Kearns: Oh I knew it was gonna be Return of Living Dead too
- 35:13cause I know it it's one of your favorites and it is super horror
- 35:17Jon: Top five all the time
- 35:22Kearns: I dunno if he did this as number two cause he knows you're gonna
- 35:24take this to so you don't make him cry
- 35:28Ryan: I
- 35:32Kearns: John I feel like you should be interrogating possible terrorists or
- 35:35something for the CIA at this point You got a real sadistic edge to you this week
- 35:42Ryan: from
- 35:44Jon: Alright So
- 35:46I think Ryan's gonna be pleased with his last stash and it will further
- 35:54damage Kern's night cause the last movie is not young Frankenstein but
- 36:01Ryan: take
- 36:02Kearns: oh,
- 36:04Ryan: dead.
- 36:05Kearns: oh.
- 36:05It's probably one of the best horror comedies ever
- 36:08Well, it's more of a comedy but like you there's the the Venn diagram you
- 36:13know of it But still I'm actually okay with this It doesn't break my heart
- 36:18too much cause I got to keep tremors If anything what I would swap out for Shauna
- 36:24the dead would be dead alive probably
- 36:28Ryan: I would switch
- 36:32the dead.
- 36:32Kearns: no
- 36:33Jon: Oh
- 36:34Kearns: no no
- 36:35Jon: oh
- 36:35Kearns: bad
- 36:36Jon: no
- 36:37Kearns: If I had to switch anything out other than that it would be cabin in
- 36:40the woods for um return of Living Dead I
- 36:46Jon: I mean I would've kept Tremors return of Living Dead and Sha of the Dead
- 36:54Kearns: yeah
- 36:54Jon: would've I would've argued with myself that Dead Alive is more
- 36:57horror and splatter than comedy
- 37:01Kearns: it is though It is splatter
- 37:05Jon: But
- 37:05Kearns: I don't hate my list This came out okay for me I didn't get
- 37:09stuck with scary movie I know you are
- 37:13You're very secure in your choice I know
- 37:16Ryan: definitely better.
- 37:17The Strong Hand.
- 37:18The basketball scene,
- 37:21Tim Curry.
- 37:23Jon: see
- 37:24Kearns: a show of the Dead too
- 37:26Jon: uh they teased that they're doing another Corno Trilogy movie
- 37:30Kearns: That'd be cool
- 37:32Jon: Yeah Simon Pagan what's his name Um not Nick Frost the director
- 37:38Kearns: Jack Frost
- 37:40Jon: whose name I'm blanking on Wright Edgar Wright Is that his name Edgar
- 37:43Wright is the guy that directed him
- 37:47Yeah they teased another Corno movie like two days ago So maybe
- 37:53maybe
- 37:56Kearns: All right so back to Critters two The Critter
- 38:03Ryan: The
- 38:03Kearns: The Critter So basically
- 38:07the main course and also back for seconds is on one of the covers as well
- 38:12Jon: Yeah
- 38:12Kearns: Uh Yeah
- 38:14a couple of good ones They're promos you know strong for critters too so basically
- 38:19we've got the crits Wreaking havoc on the town starting to murder people
- 38:24faster and faster and menacing children
- 38:28Jon: Mm-hmm
- 38:29Kearns: kids are not safe And then you also have Lee Struggle trying
- 38:32to find his final form or his
- 38:34Jon: yep
- 38:34Kearns: form
- 38:36Jon: yep Pops into Eddie Deen for a couple minutes there and
- 38:39tries to turn into Freddie Krueger
- 38:41Kearns: Mm-hmm They
- 38:42Jon: and all
- 38:43Kearns: they like to tease the little um trademark infringement in these movies
- 38:46And the first one it was et getting eaten
- 38:48and in this one it was Freddie Krueger
- 38:50Ryan: was
- 38:51Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 38:51Ryan: um, the Critters movies, they produced them so we could
- 38:54have had a Robert England cameo because they owned the franchise.
- 38:57That would've been pretty
- 38:59Kearns: New Line Cinema Owned Friday the 13th franchise Yeah
- 39:03I mean my bad Way off
- 39:04Jon: Yeah those are
- 39:05Ryan: buy out Friday the
- 39:08They
- 39:10Kearns: and they took took em all down
- 39:12Then they changed their name to Neon
- 39:13Ryan: 8 24.
- 39:17Kearns: Yeah, exactly.
- 39:19Blumhouse or like Blumkin Am I right
- 39:23Ryan: mommy
- 39:24Jon: mm-hmm Yep
- 39:26Ryan: movie might be
- 39:30Jon: You know what it's gonna be
- 39:32Kearns: Hot
- 39:32Jon: You know what it's gonna be
- 39:34Ryan: High hopes until Brett and Frazier
- 39:36Jon: I did
- 39:37Kearns: pizza
- 39:39Ryan: do you, how
- 39:39Kearns: that's what this is gonna be like
- 39:42Jon: I mean
- 39:43guys I
- 39:44Kearns: Frazier's broken man
- 39:46Jon: I I don't know if you saw the remakes that I sent you that are
- 39:48coming down the pike now I sent you a couple that I saw yesterday that
- 39:54like ugh they're remaking maniac cop
- 39:58Kearns: oh
- 40:01Jon: and they're remaking a remake not a horror movie They're remaking
- 40:05a remake They're remaking man on fire
- 40:08Kearns: oh
- 40:08Jon: the one with Denzel Washington
- 40:10Kearns: that movie
- 40:11Jon: kid which was a remake to begin with There's a
- 40:14it came out in the eighties with Scott Glenn and then they remade it with Denzel
- 40:20Kearns: Denzel
- 40:20crushed it in that movie
- 40:23Jon: I believe it was
- 40:24Kearns: on Fire like five times cause it was
- 40:26on the cable box
- 40:28Jon: Mm-hmm
- 40:28Kearns: I would just watch it over and over again
- 40:31Jon: Yeah I watched a lot I've I've watched both of
- 40:33them a few quite a few times
- 40:35Ryan: it on repeat,
- 40:37Kearns: dynamite.
- 40:40Ryan: man.
- 40:40Kearns: Oh man On fire
- 40:43Jon: Yeah.
- 40:44Kearns: Yeah
- 40:45we gotta watch it on edited cause it's hyper violent
- 40:48Jon: Mm-hmm
- 40:49Kearns: It is hyper violent
- 40:50Ryan: five bucks at
- 40:51Kearns: Yeah.
- 40:52Ryan: Thank you very much.
- 40:54Jon: yep
- 40:55Kearns: Do it
- 40:56Jon: yep
- 40:57Kearns: stuff man Good
- 40:59Jon: So yeah back to critters too We get all oh Lee every time Lee
- 41:07starts to transform into somebody different Charlie's there with the
- 41:10centerfold No this is you And you know
- 41:17and then we get the unfortunate demise of Lee
- 41:20Kearns: Yeah Somebody somebody worthwhile had to eat it I was
- 41:24Jon: Yeah
- 41:24Kearns: to be the grandmother
- 41:26Jon: Yeah You you have to in this in a part too You can't let everybody
- 41:31all the characters from the first one can't leave the second one intact also
- 41:37Kearns: Nope
- 41:37Jon: Someone had to go and Lee was Lee was always got the most reasonable
- 41:43choice You'd get a little bit of the emotional impact and you'd you know
- 41:49Ryan: he was
- 41:49Jon: it's Lee Lee was fine but Ugg
- 41:52Ugg was the star and Ugg takes it really
- 41:57Kearns: Yeah he he turns back into silly putty
- 42:00Jon: bad Yeah bad He goes he goes back to faceless He's so upset
- 42:05Kearns: Mm-hmm
- 42:06But that leads to one of the best transformations he ever has
- 42:10Jon: Yep Yeah
- 42:10Kearns: coming up So it's like we can go into the nitty gritty of
- 42:13what happens in these 45 minutes but really towards the end the townspeople
- 42:16are trying to bamboozle the crets
- 42:18Jon: Mm-hmm
- 42:19Kearns: going into uh the what is it that
- 42:22Jon: A meat processing plant
- 42:24Kearns: processing plant And where there's a bunch of dynamite shoved into
- 42:27meat and they're cooking up burgers and stuff to lure them in And the
- 42:31crites almost they almost ruin that by deciding they want live meat Live flesh
- 42:39Ryan: The wind's going one way.
- 42:40They smell
- 42:41Jon: yep
- 42:41Kearns: they turn around,
- 42:42Ryan: And then you get this large C crit
- 42:44Jon: Yep,
- 42:45Ryan: who's like, no, we need to have burgers
- 42:49no more
- 42:51Jon: yep.
- 42:52Kearns: bones
- 42:53there's no bones
- 42:54Ryan: C crit, I was like, where the hell did this
- 42:59Kearns: And the first one had a big boy So I figured they were just evolving
- 43:03know not evolving but one had just eaten more than the other ones kind of thing
- 43:06Jon: Mm-hmm
- 43:07Kearns: I was like okay that's the big boy crit He's the leader
- 43:11Jon: But it isn't
- 43:12Kearns: And it wasn't so it's they're all in there chewing and you notice
- 43:14something's up cause at first I thought the big CRI was just hip to what was
- 43:18happening He was trying to like look around and figure out what was going on
- 43:21we found out it was UG in disguise It was pretty sweet And he does the biggest
- 43:25boner move ever and decides he's going to change before getting away from the door
- 43:30So of course they see him they attack him
- 43:34Start
- 43:34Jon: Yep
- 43:35Kearns: his foot not an
- 43:36Jon: Yep
- 43:36Kearns: That's a Lee
- 43:37Jon: No yeah that well I mean that's still grief stricken Ugg
- 43:42who's kind of who's kind of on a um a mission of self termination
- 43:48Kearns: I see He's ready to go out with a bang
- 43:51Jon: Yeah
- 43:52And he's not the only one that was willing to do that to get rid of the crates
- 43:56Kearns: Oh
- 43:57Jon: cause Charlie goes on his own little one at the end with the spaceship
- 44:01Kearns: yep He pulls a uh
- 44:02a Batman at the end of the dark night rises
- 44:05Jon: Mm-hmm
- 44:05Ryan: because they all form into this giant ball, which I was so
- 44:11having seen 20,
- 44:13Kearns: It was cool to see it again
- 44:15Ryan: not
- 44:15Jon: Yeah
- 44:16Kearns: special effects held up too
- 44:18Jon: Yeah
- 44:20Kearns: The rolling around the town trying to hit the church Can't
- 44:25quite make it to the church Did
- 44:27Jon: Yep
- 44:27Kearns: I got my scene where he rolls over the guy and it's just
- 44:29a skeleton afterwards is the best
- 44:31Ryan: so good.
- 44:32Jon: Yep.
- 44:33Ryan: so
- 44:35Jon: Yeah, So
- 44:37we wind up with Charlie crashing the spaceship into the giant Crete ball
- 44:43and eliminating the Crete threat And apparently himself and I I guess in the
- 44:52strangest attempt to be compassionate and sympathetic to somebody in their
- 44:56loss transforms himself into Charlie and tells Brad to call him Charlie
- 45:02Kearns: Which is bizarre He's trying to move in
- 45:05Ryan: on Earth
- 45:05Jon: Yeah
- 45:06Kearns: He wants to stay on Earth
- 45:08He Charlie must have told some great stories about how Well
- 45:11received he was on Earth Not that he was like a sniveling alcoholic
- 45:14Jon: Mm-hmm
- 45:17Kearns: but uh
- 45:18Jon: I mean technically I guess Charlie winds up as the sheriff
- 45:22Kearns: yeah he's he's moving up in the world man Well we we get back to that
- 45:26but Charlie reveals himself to be alive
- 45:29Jon: Yes
- 45:30Kearns: Um which is what we're we're
- 45:31Jon: Yeah
- 45:31Kearns: over He had
- 45:32Jon: Yeah He jumped out at the
- 45:34Kearns: make
- 45:34Jon: jumped out at the last second
- 45:37Kearns: and somehow only reveals himself like must be hours later Hours later
- 45:43nighttime explosion daytime reveal
- 45:46Jon: Mm-hmm Mm-hmm
- 45:48Kearns: varies to very
- 45:50Jon: It also it that that whole situation leads to really the one bad effect
- 45:57in the whole movie where you have the two Charlies like checking each other
- 46:01out and you you can like you can tell that they've cut that together and the
- 46:07effects in it are are not great It's really the one clunk in this whole dang
- 46:13Kearns: Yeah They could have gone very easily gone without that too trying to
- 46:17Jon: Mm-hmm
- 46:17Kearns: particular
- 46:18Jon: Yeah Yeah
- 46:20Kearns: But Yeah
- 46:21Then critters two ends with the longest most awkward almost kiss
- 46:24almost kiss almost kiss moment with
- 46:26Jon: Mm-hmm
- 46:27Kearns: to make out And then We get the end and it doesn't there's no
- 46:31teaser with this one At least I don't think so There's just credits roll
- 46:35Jon: Yeah
- 46:36Kearns: And that's critters too guys That was
- 46:38Jon: Yeah
- 46:39Kearns: fantastic You have to watch these movies like
- 46:42Jon: Yeah The first two critters are just like perfect eighties movies
- 46:47Kearns: Yep 100 down to the fact that the monsters literally are
- 46:51like eighties haired out little
- 46:53Jon: Mm-hmm Yeah
- 46:55Kearns: It's super cool
- 46:56Jon: Yeah They they're like they they could be in like the ugly glam metal band
- 47:01Kearns: Yep exactly Exactly
- 47:03Jon: one the one that's yeah The one that's getting by on their
- 47:06musical chops and not the look
- 47:09Ryan: Yeah, definitely
- 47:13Kearns: All right Let's see guys So are we what are we gonna review
- 47:17this What are we gonna give this one
- 47:19Jon: Well do you guys want to hear what some other people think first
- 47:22Kearns: sure
- 47:24Jon: I have
- 47:24Kearns: Forgot about that
- 47:25Jon: I have a few Um so let let's do the quick rundown Rotten
- 47:29Tomatoes critics score at 31
- 47:33Kearns: Ooh that's actually pretty rotten
- 47:36Jon: Yeah Audience scored 37 But you would and you would think that there's
- 47:43these would be hard to find five stars but I found a couple good five stars
- 47:48And this one is really close to my heart because this is something I talk
- 47:51about all the time Five Stars People think that every movie has to be Oscar
- 47:57worthy Some movies are meant to be cheesy and fun I've loved this one
- 48:03since I was a kid so five stars from me
- 48:07Kearns: Okay Fair
- 48:08Jon: Exactly the point Enjoy movies They don't all have to be nominated
- 48:15for best picture You can enjoy a movie that's not a good movie Some
- 48:21of the best movies are bad movies
- 48:24Kearns: Yeah Agreed
- 48:27Jon: The I mean the Room Miami Connection New York Ninja There's
- 48:32so many of those there They're just so bad But they're so good
- 48:37Kearns: Hmm Most Steven Segal films from but like the serious ones
- 48:42Ryan: Deadly
- 48:43Jon: Yeah.
- 48:48Kearns: hard to kill
- 48:50Jon: Tho those first five or those first five or six Sigal movies will always
- 48:55have a have a nice place in my heart
- 48:59Kearns: Who's trying to be Charles Bronson
- 49:00Jon: Mm-hmm Charles Bronson with broken arms in his wake
- 49:08Kearns: So let's hear another review
- 49:11Jon: five stars more crates and they're bigger hairier and hungrier Throw in a
- 49:17dash of Eddie Deen and you got one hell of a classic classic monster movie sequel
- 49:25Ryan: that
- 49:25Kearns: Fair enough I like
- 49:26Jon: yep yep
- 49:27Kearns: Bottom to top
- 49:28Good review
- 49:30Jon: And now some people who did not like it very much One star not even
- 49:37up to the original's low standards
- 49:40Kearns: This
- 49:40Jon: know
- 49:41Kearns: fun at
- 49:41Jon: man Like I I this is this is somebody who probably only watches
- 49:46Oscar bait movies and you know the the highly rated stuff and you know
- 49:53Kearns: How do you
- 49:53Jon: eighties movies Don't
- 49:54Kearns: from that Anyway
- 49:58Jon: I had one more One star Pretty much a repeat of the first movie just
- 50:04with a lot more gag factor thrown in which I personally think ruined it and
- 50:10just sealed the movie's fate as a total joke And saying that though it's not
- 50:17bad for a mindless laugh on the couch
- 50:19Kearns: Well that's what the whole point is buddy
- 50:23Jon: and that that that last line is the whole reason I pulled that review because
- 50:27that's not the end of a one star review
- 50:30Kearns: Yeah
- 50:30Jon: you
- 50:31if you can shut your brain off on the couch and enjoy em and laugh at a movie
- 50:36like Critters too like that's worth at least a couple stars especially now
- 50:43Kearns: agreed
- 50:45Ugg greed.
- 50:47Jon: Yeah that's worth a couple All right so with those opinions
- 50:52out of the way how about you guys
- 50:55Kearns: What do you think Ryan
- 50:56Ryan: I gave the first one, what?
- 51:01Jon: We all forward it
- 51:02Kearns: Yeah I gave it a four star
- 51:03Jon: We all forward it
- 51:04Ryan: to go.
- 51:05Uh, it's tough because first one's just great.
- 51:09It's a four star.
- 51:10I would probably go a quarter down, 3.75.
- 51:14You still get like, it's a similar vein and story, similar monsters, but again,
- 51:19it's like the whole fantasm two thing.
- 51:22More explosions, more deaths, like more chaos.
- 51:26So.
- 51:27have it,
- 51:28Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 51:29Ryan: nothing can beat the original at this point.
- 51:31But is it a fun watch?
- 51:32Yeah
- 51:33just have fun with
- 51:35Go in their mind list and watch
- 51:37Jon: Yeah.
- 51:38Ryan: Show it
- 51:39dinner.
- 51:42Jon: Yeah.
- 51:43It's perfect for it
- 51:44Kearns: Maybe not during Easter dinner Maybe not While you celebrate the
- 51:48Jon: During Easter dinner
- 51:51Kearns: Oh during Easter Dan hour
- 51:53Jon: while
- 51:54Kearns: gonna say 3.752 for the exact same reason cause it's just a hair off the top
- 51:58of the first But I don't wanna be just
- 51:59Jon: Yeah
- 52:00Kearns: so I'm gonna do a price right Move and give it a 3.76 Get to the showcase
- 52:05showdown on this one yeah it's the same kind of concept it almost holds up as
- 52:09well as the first one It's just you
- 52:10Jon: Mm-hmm
- 52:11Kearns: you can't
- 52:12Jon: Yeah
- 52:12Kearns: pinnacle again You get
- 52:14Jon: yeah
- 52:14Kearns: close enough So 3.75 for me too
- 52:18Jon: yeah And I'm right there with you guys It's a 3.75 for me It's a
- 52:23Kearns: the
- 52:23Jon: yeah Eight eight
- 52:24Ryan: Alright.
- 52:25Jon: Yeah I mean cause listen
- 52:28it's a sequel So like you have to do something super special with a sequel
- 52:33for you to put it above the original And they don't quite get there but
- 52:37they you know it they do everything you're else you're supposed to do in
- 52:41a sequel You get more critters you got more action you got more critter mayhem
- 52:47You just increase the whole spectrum of the critters And it worked for me
- 52:52Ryan: yep.
- 52:54Jamie Kennedy was right in scream too about the rules of sequels
- 52:59Just
- 53:01Jon: Yeah.
- 53:01I mean, yeah.
- 53:03There's a reason that was in that movie because it's always been the truth
- 53:07Ryan: or
- 53:10Jon: Yep
- 53:11Kearns: we did this though Critters two kicked ass I'm glad we
- 53:13Jon: Yep
- 53:14Kearns: it
- 53:14All right getting into Ryan's top fives
- 53:17Ryan: discussed critters two, but there was a big thing, and that was
- 53:21the recasting of Sheriff Harvey Har from MM. At Walsh to Barry Corbin.
- 53:26So tonight my top fives are top five horror franchises,
- 53:30which recast iconic characters.
- 53:32And we're gonna start off with our first one.
- 53:35Number one, after the success of the classic 1979 film, fantasm Universal
- 53:41Greenlit Don Cascarelli, sequel Fanm two, with one stipulation.
- 53:46The character Mike played by a Michael Baldwin was out for James La Gross,
- 53:51capturing Baldwin's portrayal As innocent, curious, and adventurous.
- 53:54La Gross had one thing in his favor, a screen presence, adding the touch
- 53:58of being more action oriented.
- 54:00La Gross would do a decent job portraying Mike, but with strong loyalty and
- 54:03hardcore fans upset by the change.
- 54:05Baldwin will return for the next three installments of the Phantasm
- 54:08franchise by Cascarelli bringing peace back, at least to their
- 54:13Number four.
- 54:14Oh yeah,
- 54:15Jon: As it should be.
- 54:16Ryan: when doing the list, I was like, I'm bringing this up as to start it off.
- 54:20Because look, gross is, he's a good actor, but it's not a
- 54:26and you need to keep it constant.
- 54:29Jon: Oh, he's not that kid.
- 54:30Ryan: no, no, he's more action packed.
- 54:33And imagine if they replaced Reggie.
- 54:35'cause I was thinking about mentioning that, but Cascarelli actually fought for
- 54:41I believe so.
- 54:42Jon: Yeah.
- 54:43Ryan: Right?
- 54:44No.
- 54:46Oh, I I thought you were
- 54:48Jon: I, I
- 54:49Ryan: I was like,
- 54:50Jon: no, I haven't been agreeing.
- 54:51Ryan: he
- 54:52they
- 54:53with
- 54:55which
- 54:56Jon: Yeah
- 54:57Ryan: to my
- 54:57Jon: Yeah.
- 54:58Ryan: Horror was never the same when Toby Hoover brought leather
- 55:01face to the brick screen in 1974, portrayed by Gunner Hansen.
- 55:05Leatherface was a man with a child's mentality, led to be a savage by
- 55:09his family, but showcasing a tender side reflected by himself with his
- 55:12taxidermy and care of his masks.
- 55:15Though a disappointing salary would lead to Gunner Hansen refusing the role for
- 55:18the sequel, which would lead to actor Bill Johnson landing the role for five
- 55:22more sequels, we would have actors Ra mih.
- 55:25Jacks, Dan Yeager, Sam Strike and Mark Boham.
- 55:28But none would recapture Hansen's iconic portrayal, either being
- 55:31too menacing or too tender and not the equal balance of both.
- 55:36strong with that.
- 55:36'cause like second one, like the first one, he's very tender.
- 55:40At some parts he's very savage.
- 55:42The second one, he's a little more goofier.
- 55:44The third one, he's a little more menacing.
- 55:47The fourth one, I don't know what's going on.
- 55:49And then they try to recapture it with like the other films and
- 55:53it's like the other two films and I don't know what they were doing.
- 55:58And gunner Hansen just captured like the character so well,
- 56:01which goes into my number three.
- 56:05Played by many actors.
- 56:06The character of Jason Voorhees truly didn't come to life until Kane
- 56:10Hotter, stepped in the role for Friday the 13th, part seven, the new Blood
- 56:14the character for three more films.
- 56:16Jason goes to Manhattan, Jason goes to Hell, and one of my favorites, Jason
- 56:20X. His movements actions and the way he can take a fall as Jason would
- 56:25give a fresh take for fans of the series, as well as bring in new fans.
- 56:29Though for the biggest box office, draw between two horror
- 56:32Titans, Freddy versus Jason Kane.
- 56:34Hotter was controversially replaced, in my opinion, for an actor named
- 56:38Ken Inger in order to be more menacing and show a greater height
- 56:42difference compared to Robert England.
- 56:44Yeah
- 56:44it was an okay movie, but to have two legends in horror share a
- 56:47screen would've been monumental for the horror community and would've
- 56:51elevated the movie a little more, in
- 56:55Jon: That was would've been the whole appeal to that and I will give you a
- 56:59heads up If you ever meet Kane Hotter at a convention he will really choke you
- 57:06Kearns: Oh cool
- 57:08Jon: I have a picture I didn't I did not know he was going to choke me So the
- 57:12reaction in the picture is legitimate Holy cow cane hotter is choking me
- 57:18Ryan: to a event, you'll know where I'm at.
- 57:21The
- 57:23just to experience
- 57:24Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 57:25Ryan: is
- 57:25Kearns: it's Ryan's kink.
- 57:26Ryan: Hell yeah.
- 57:27Which leads to number two, talking about kinks and stuff brought to
- 57:31life by Doug Bradley with his gau and unsettled characterization, balanced
- 57:35perfectly with the movie combination of grotesque and seductiveness.
- 57:39For eight movies, he led the Center Bytes
- 57:41glorious souls as Pinhead.
- 57:43However, that would
- 57:44Kearns: Oh.
- 57:44Ryan: by the ninth film, so hell raise a revelation.
- 57:47Starts Steven Smith.
- 57:48Collins taken over the role of Pinhead since Bradley felt the
- 57:51script was weak and Dimension Films only intended to release it because
- 57:55they wanted to retain the rights.
- 57:57So the movie would come out to poor reviews as well as a
- 57:59poor interpretation of Pinhead.
- 58:01So they would do a follow up with Paul T. Taylor taking the role, and
- 58:05that would be, hell raise judgment and if follow with similar results
- 58:08up until 2022, where we get.
- 58:13Clayton portraying Pinhead and taking what Doug Bradley did to a higher
- 58:18level, as well as Doug Bradley's return in the up cupping video game.
- 58:23Hell raiser revival.
- 58:24It's a good return for him.
- 58:26Um, they try to do justice recently with the character, but those
- 58:29two films are just, they were
- 58:34Jon: I I can't believe it took Doug Bradley eight movies to realize
- 58:38how bad that series was getting
- 58:40Ryan: once you get to like the fourth one, it like falls.
- 58:43But like Doug Bradley's presence
- 58:46takes it
- 58:48Jon: Yeah I mean
- 58:50I mean he elevated a bunch of turds but yeah I mean it took him eight movies to
- 58:57realize how bad that series was getting
- 59:00Ryan: number
- 59:00Jon: right, number one,
- 59:01Ryan: going with, Frankenstein's Monster, you know.
- 59:05I think of Frankenstein's Monster.
- 59:06I don't think of Robert De Niro, Rory Ken, or Jacob Ardi.
- 59:09I see Boris Karloff.
- 59:11The infamous image is burnt into my brain since I was a kid.
- 59:14It's my favorite interpretation.
- 59:16And for three films, Frankenstein Bride and Son, he brought the character
- 59:20to life, trying to understanding, wanting, only love from not only his
- 59:23creator, but the people around him.
- 59:26he shunned and treated like the monster he did depict it to be.
- 59:29But it changes when Karloff is unavailable for Ghost of Frankenstein
- 59:32due to starring in a production of arsenic and old lace in which launch
- 59:37Cheney Jr. Would take over for Ghost of Frankenstein, followed by Bella Laci.
- 59:41And, Frankenstein meets the Wolf man, but they just portrayed
- 59:47the monster as a monster with no human characteristics, only one
- 59:51close enough was Glenn Strange, in House of Frankenstein, house of
- 59:54Dracula, but it was just menacing and his resemblance, which was close.
- 59:59And Karloff really.
- 1:00:00Embodied the character in my opinion.
- 1:00:02And that's my
- 1:00:08Thank
- 1:00:08Kearns: Cool
- 1:00:09Jon: Nice
- 1:00:11Nice, nice
- 1:00:12Kearns: It was a good top five I'm just barely hanging on right now All right
- 1:00:16Jon: Well
- 1:00:17Kearns: John
- 1:00:18Jon: let's bring you back I I know I did horror comedies as the game
- 1:00:23This is a slight variation on it It's Alien Invasion horror comedies
- 1:00:28Kearns: Cool
- 1:00:30Jon: So and we're gonna start
- 1:00:33Kearns: No it's on
- 1:00:34Jon: Number five Mars attacks
- 1:00:38Kearns: I was hoping it wasn't number one
- 1:00:40Jon: Mars attacks is more action than horror but it's hard to ignore
- 1:00:43On any list of in alien invasion comedies Martians Invader Polarity
- 1:00:48ensues This president James Dale played by Jack Nicholson struggles to
- 1:00:53save the world and mightily struggles
- 1:00:56Kearns: mm-hmm
- 1:00:58Jon: the Martians do have one unique weakness which I will not spoil for
- 1:01:02you because it's probably one of the funniest things that happens in this
- 1:01:06movie my number four is probably the least seen movie on this list It's a
- 1:01:14South African movie called Fried Berry
- 1:01:19Kearns: Okay fried
- 1:01:21Jon: District nine
- 1:01:21Kearns: I was there I was like what Really
- 1:01:23Jon: I thought I saw the face I figured that's what she
- 1:01:25thought I was gonna say Nope
- 1:01:27Kearns: African alien invasion comedy I know of
- 1:01:30Jon: Fried berry the name B-A-R-R-Y an alien takes over the body of a drug
- 1:01:36addicted man sending him on a path of drug fueled de bosan mayhem in the
- 1:01:41South African movie it did really well at festivals It's like pure chaos for
- 1:01:47an hour and a half And it's directed by a guy named Ryan Krueger who also
- 1:01:52directed the Street Trash remake which is surprisingly really good
- 1:02:00Kearns: Hmm
- 1:02:01Jon: I had a really good time with the street trash to remake but Fried Berry is
- 1:02:05an original unique bizarre take so we'll go to number three And I have always felt
- 1:02:12like this was more supernatural than alien but it comes up in every alien invasion
- 1:02:18comedy and it's our old friends Justin Benson and Aaron Morehead coming back
- 1:02:22our it's something in the dirt from 2022
- 1:02:28Kearns: I'll watch
- 1:02:29Jon: so neighbors John and Levi noticed something strange and supernatural
- 1:02:34occurrences in their building and they set out to capture video evidence
- 1:02:37because hey we're gonna put this on the internet We're gonna be rich and
- 1:02:41famous because look what we discovered Um it's easier said than done as the
- 1:02:46two young men will be lucky to escape with their lives and friendship intact
- 1:02:52Kearns: Hmm
- 1:02:54Jon: It's very much them If you've seen anything they that
- 1:02:58they've done you'll know without being told that this is them Also
- 1:03:03my number two I hope you guys have seen if not I probably want to add it to the
- 1:03:07list pretty soon it's a British movie that stars Nick Frost and a pre Star

- 1:03:18so a group of teens and the woman they mugged are forced to
- 1:03:23work together to defend their neighborhood against an alien invasion
- 1:03:27Kearns: Love
- 1:03:28Jon: aliens are super nasty and ripped through their South London apartment
- 1:03:32It's I love this one The it attack the block is a lot a lot of fun
- 1:03:37But my number one Don Cascarelli is gonna show up on both our top fives this week
- 1:03:42Kearns: Nice
- 1:03:43Jon: cause my number one is John dies at the end
- 1:03:47Kearns: nice You really do love that one
- 1:03:49Jon: Oh my GII gotta get you guys on this one too So a new drug called soy sauce
- 1:03:56gives users a unique and often fatal experience That's not the case for David
- 1:04:01It just opens doors to alternate universes and alien races So as I mentioned this is
- 1:04:08a Don Cascarelli movie It's got a really
- 1:04:10cool cast with Paul Giamatti Glenn Turman who you may remember is the teacher
- 1:04:16from Gremlins Among other things you Clancy Brown is a sort of Maybe real
- 1:04:23maybe fake magician guy and you get some Angus scrim in there and you get a giant

- 1:04:42I feel like it's it's an infallible point that you just made
- 1:04:48Jon: Don't believe Reggie's in this one
