- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back.
- 0:13Speaker 2: What's going on, everybody? It's Jeff Mosher Adam Kaplan.
- 0:17Speaker 1: We're starting to finish up this great series we've been doing,
- 0:19Speaker 1: looking at the Eagles by position and examining their depth.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We are now onto Cornerback for this episode, and then
- 0:26Speaker 1: the next one will be Safety, and we'll have finished
- 0:29Speaker 1: after that completely going way inside the depth chart, giving
- 0:34Speaker 1: you all the intel that we've got.
- 0:36Speaker 3: By the way, should we in honor of Vic Fangio,
- 0:39Speaker 3: should we do Nickels? No?
- 0:42Speaker 2: I think I was gonna make a joke about that.
- 0:45Speaker 3: It's so funny. Cornerback he refuses to call. He always
- 0:50Speaker 3: cracks the reporters when they when they talk about corner
- 0:55Speaker 3: and when they'll say this guy's a corner goes, No,
- 0:57Speaker 3: he's a Nickel and he he He's explained it. And
- 1:01Speaker 3: Nichols is an inside player. It corners an outside player. Yeah,
- 1:05Speaker 3: and it took me a while to accept it, but
- 1:07Speaker 3: I get what he means. Yeah, though Cooper Desen could
- 1:10Speaker 3: play both.
- 1:11Speaker 2: He can. But for the purposes of this depth intel.
- 1:15Speaker 1: That we're gonna give in preview, right, you have to
- 1:17Speaker 1: admit the Eagles have behind him about three or four
- 1:20Speaker 1: guys who can practice and will practice and play both.
- 1:25Speaker 2: So we had to put him in.
- 1:27Speaker 1: One episode and it's a really interesting look.
- 1:30Speaker 2: So, Adam, this whole series has been about depth.
- 1:34Speaker 1: And before I go any further, I know people are
- 1:37Speaker 1: gonna notice it, so I'll just address it now.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I am battling a little bit of a head cold.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I'm fine, but as this podcast is going, as it
- 1:45Speaker 1: goes on, you.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Will hear me get a little bit more horse.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I might lose my voice a little bit. Who knows,
- 1:50Speaker 1: Adam will take over. But if it sounds a little strange,
- 1:53Speaker 1: it's because.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I'm battling something.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Anyway, Speaking of battles, we go back to cornerback here, Adam.
- 2:01Speaker 1: This is an interesting spot because we said last year
- 2:05Speaker 1: that there's a lot of high end talent Cooper, de Jean, Quinnon, Mitchell,
- 2:10Speaker 1: but not a lot of depth. You know, they had
- 2:12Speaker 1: signed to Dori Jackson, their Kille Ringo is still on
- 2:15Speaker 1: the roster, and you somewhat have an interesting situation here
- 2:19Speaker 1: with the signing of Rek willand gives you another.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Guy who's can be a pretty good player, right you
- 2:26Speaker 2: like your starters.
- 2:29Speaker 1: He almost had the same depth situation, but the Eagles
- 2:31Speaker 1: went and brought in a veteran for the first time
- 2:34Speaker 1: in a while, a veteran to really compete to be
- 2:37Speaker 1: a backup ian Jonathan Jones.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Yeah. So the way it's going to be is that
- 2:42Speaker 3: it's kind of this position has been kind of dictated already.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Mitchell's left corner will only be the right corner twelve
- 2:49Speaker 3: and f million. They've already told you who's starting. He's starting,
- 2:52Speaker 3: John and Jones is going to make two million fully
- 2:54Speaker 3: guaranteed the season. He'll be the third corner most likely.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Now this is where it gets interesting. Well, they play
- 3:02Speaker 3: Degene at all? You and I talked about this after
- 3:04Speaker 3: the woman signing. Will they play Degene at right corner
- 3:10Speaker 3: and base? You know, I think they were that again.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I expect him to well the same for the same
- 3:18Speaker 1: reasons that Seattle did.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Seattle didn't play him in base. They only played him
- 3:22Speaker 2: they weren't.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Paying him this kind of coin. It's a lot of money.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Fair. That's a really good point. That's fair.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I mean, you're you're gonna it's a one year deal.
- 3:33Speaker 1: You had to overpay to get him, and you're going to.
- 3:39Speaker 2: You're gonna be a.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Nickel probably seventy five day percent of the time. So
- 3:43Speaker 1: not playing him in basse to me, doesn't look like
- 3:45Speaker 1: a waste of money.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Especially if he gives you not a waste by a
- 3:49Speaker 2: topic a play.
- 3:51Speaker 3: I get he's got to play. You just said it.
- 3:56Speaker 3: He's got to play. H Let's put it this way.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Wolne's going to play. He'll play the majority of the
- 4:03Speaker 3: snaps there, right, That's the first thing Cooper is. It's
- 4:09Speaker 3: kind of like, okay, you could have Degene on bass downs.
- 4:15Speaker 3: They don't play a lot of bass. You could have
- 4:17Speaker 3: him in for Woolen. If that's what you want, you
- 4:20Speaker 3: could certainly put him there, no question. Now I think
- 4:29Speaker 3: it's I think it's really about I think to me
- 4:34Speaker 3: it's actually twelve bly not twelve enough million. It's not
- 4:38Speaker 3: an easy call. I think it's a little bit harder
- 4:40Speaker 3: than last year. We had mentioned back in February of
- 4:44Speaker 3: twenty five that the Gene will be a full time nickel.
- 4:47Speaker 3: We didn't know about the because Vic didn't know that.
- 4:50Speaker 3: He didn't know he was playing Cooper and bass, but
- 4:53Speaker 3: we knew that Degene was going to be their nickel.
- 4:55Speaker 3: They were going to stick with that. And then we
- 4:57Speaker 3: also noted we heard a couple of months ago that
- 4:59Speaker 3: he was me their nickel again. But to me, it's
- 5:03Speaker 3: to justify the contract. He's got to play majority of
- 5:05Speaker 3: the STAPs, which he will. The only question would be
- 5:09Speaker 3: for ten to fifteen of the game that they're in base,
- 5:14Speaker 3: because you'd mentioned this a couple of months ago. Clearly
- 5:17Speaker 3: the shine's more physical, like that's that's you know, that's
- 5:20Speaker 3: that's true. But it's against the run. And this is
- 5:28Speaker 3: where situation comes up. If they're playing an opponent that
- 5:32Speaker 3: is a run based offense like eight forty nine ers
- 5:38Speaker 3: or somebody like that, I think that's when you do it. Sure,
- 5:42Speaker 3: that's when you that's when you absolutely do I think
- 5:45Speaker 3: this year, to me, it should be more situational, not
- 5:47Speaker 3: just okay, that's agree every Bay. I don't agree with that.
- 5:51Speaker 1: You're you're playing the Rams who are going to try
- 5:54Speaker 1: to get you in base by putting all these tight
- 5:56Speaker 1: ends on the field. But at the end of the day,
- 5:58Speaker 1: they're still going to have Devontae Ada and Pukinnakua out there.
- 6:01Speaker 1: And if you want to have if you want to
- 6:04Speaker 1: respond to that in either nickel or if you do
- 6:07Speaker 1: want to go base in certain situations.
- 6:09Speaker 2: But have Wolan out there. I get it, even though Wollan.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Did have his struggles last year against the Rams as
- 6:15Speaker 1: we all we saw on both national TV and otherwise.
- 6:19Speaker 2: I get that, you're right.
- 6:20Speaker 1: But if you're playing the forty nine ers and you
- 6:22Speaker 1: know that they're gonna be every twenty twenty one head
- 6:25Speaker 1: twenty two, right, and they're gonna run a lot, then yeah,
- 6:29Speaker 1: it makes sense to have the gene out there.
- 6:31Speaker 2: I think that does make sense. I would still say this.
- 6:34Speaker 1: The one thing one of the things we've learned about
- 6:36Speaker 1: Vic Fangio in his two years here is he does
- 6:39Speaker 1: not care about your contract if you're not playing well.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Right, I get that, well, no, but right, but on
- 6:46Speaker 3: just overall to justify the contract the twelve million, he's
- 6:51Speaker 3: got a play a lot like that now by week
- 6:53Speaker 3: eight if if if he's on playing well, okay, what
- 6:57Speaker 3: are the choices as we move along here, Well, you've
- 6:59Speaker 3: got Nathan Jones. He was near the end of his career. Okay,
- 7:03Speaker 3: he's an older player who could play. He's more of
- 7:05Speaker 3: an outside corner, not the biggest guy that were under
- 7:09Speaker 3: five foot ten. But he's been in the league a
- 7:10Speaker 3: long time. He's been he's a Super Bowl winner. Got's
- 7:14Speaker 3: a good football player. He was with Washington last year.
- 7:17Speaker 3: He did have an injury, but he is. He turns
- 7:22Speaker 3: thirty three in September, which means you're thirty three in
- 7:24Speaker 3: NFL years. That's the way the clubs look at him, right,
- 7:28Speaker 3: I mean, as you said, it's a little bit better depth,
- 7:30Speaker 3: clearly because they were depending on a couple other players
- 7:33Speaker 3: last year. It didn't work out, so now you go
- 7:37Speaker 3: for it. Here it's Jonathan Jones, It's Bennett Kraane Bennett,
- 7:40Speaker 3: who they gave a two draft picks for. He couldn't
- 7:44Speaker 3: get the defense down, so they benched him. It's mac mcwims,
- 7:47Speaker 3: who really didn't play last season.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Yep. One of the many guys who can play nickel
- 7:53Speaker 2: or outside.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Yep, yeap. Macmickwilliams could do both. No, he was not
- 7:57Speaker 3: cross trained and safety as we understand it. Ambry Thomas
- 8:01Speaker 3: is another forty nine er. And then you've got Ringo
- 8:04Speaker 3: doesn't factor in a corner at all. He's just a
- 8:06Speaker 3: special teams player. He doesn't even he counts as a corner,
- 8:08Speaker 3: but he don in factor in.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm almost I'm almost there.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I'll give him the you know, he's got to get
- 8:14Speaker 1: OTAs but to Cory and Bennett did not do anything
- 8:17Speaker 1: to get himself in in good graces. And if you're
- 8:20Speaker 1: only keeping five five corner Nichols or you know, and
- 8:23Speaker 1: you've got already got uh Quinna, Mitchell, Riquillan, Cooper, de Jean,
- 8:28Speaker 1: Jonathan Jones and your last spot of special teams, then
- 8:32Speaker 1: is it Bennett?
- 8:33Speaker 2: Is it Ringo? Is it mcmilliams. I mean he becomes
- 8:35Speaker 2: a really interesting conversation.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Yeah, and you've got Pastor Field another X forty nine
- 8:40Speaker 3: or Penn Stater.
- 8:42Speaker 2: They got Michael Carter. We didn't mention Michael Carter because
- 8:45Speaker 2: you know, we're gonna want to be in.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Nick He won't play corner. Who played Nickol. I hate
- 8:49Speaker 3: to say it, but that's yeah, in Vicky's Yeah, he
- 8:53Speaker 3: is not a corner. He's a nickel or he's a
- 8:56Speaker 3: safety safety. So that's that's Uh. You're right, they've got
- 9:01Speaker 3: more players at corner. They got plenty of Nickels. They
- 9:05Speaker 3: don't need any more nickels. They got there, they're out,
- 9:08Speaker 3: They've got five of them, they don't need anymore. They
- 9:11Speaker 3: got backups to the backup just can they find quality.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Can they like, if Woolan's not playing well as you
- 9:18Speaker 3: mentioned earlier, did Jonathan Jones still have it at thirty
- 9:22Speaker 3: two and three quarters years old? I mean, does he
- 9:24Speaker 3: still have it? We have to see. They're paying them
- 9:27Speaker 3: two millions, so he's likely going to be on the roster.
- 9:31Speaker 3: They guaranteed all of it. Could Bennett show anything? I
- 9:34Speaker 3: mean they his thing was competitiveness and could run. But
- 9:40Speaker 3: the thing for him is not everyone's like CJ. Gordan Johnson,
- 9:45Speaker 3: who could get traded before the season started and be
- 9:48Speaker 3: a great player like that to learn a new deal,
- 9:50Speaker 3: that's like, that's not reasonable. It's just not realistic. But
- 9:53Speaker 3: he's getting to give Bennett now a full off season
- 9:55Speaker 3: to see what he can do.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean they're really awesome. So we have
- 10:00Speaker 1: to mention The thing with him is he's got to
- 10:02Speaker 1: be able to stay healthy. He came with that shoulder
- 10:04Speaker 1: issue and re injuring himself on the punt block or
- 10:09Speaker 1: my field goal block return touchdown against the Rams.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Was out for a bit.
- 10:13Speaker 1: That obviously hampered his ability to practice and learn and
- 10:16Speaker 1: get familiar with the defense, and it.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Just it wasn't gonna happen for him.
- 10:21Speaker 1: You know, last year was almost comical, by the way,
- 10:23Speaker 1: with all the all the darts that Howie Roseman through.
- 10:27Speaker 1: I mean, people have forgotten about jay R Alexander.
- 10:29Speaker 2: That was a thing, you know, like that was a
- 10:33Speaker 2: thing and it was.
- 10:34Speaker 1: About two weeks old, and I never thought it was
- 10:36Speaker 1: ever going to be a thing, but they clearly thought
- 10:38Speaker 1: it could be a thing, and it wasn't.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Three practices and that was it.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Yeah, crazy.
- 10:44Speaker 3: He wrote a really good essay that's out there if
- 10:46Speaker 3: you folks want to read it, just to.
- 10:49Speaker 2: See like a player's rebune thing. I didn't see.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Yeah, it's actually really I didn't get I'm not finished
- 10:53Speaker 3: it because I was actually I was at a stop light.
- 10:55Speaker 3: I remember in our Patreon chat that he mentioned it
- 10:58Speaker 3: and I bookmarked on my phone and then an the
- 11:01Speaker 3: light chain tried to go but uh, he I'll read it,
- 11:05Speaker 3: I'll finish it. He's uh, he went through a lot, man.
- 11:08Speaker 3: I feel for him. Sure the thing was like we
- 11:11Speaker 3: had heard that he when they got him in, you know,
- 11:13Speaker 3: they checked out. He obviously passed the physical. He had
- 11:16Speaker 3: one good practice. Then he felt he started feeling it,
- 11:21Speaker 3: you know, there he's bad and uh, you know that's
- 11:23Speaker 3: a real thing that could happen. So yeah, look, they
- 11:26Speaker 3: too many dart throws last year. Is Jonathan Jones a
- 11:29Speaker 3: dart throw? No, he's a proven player, he's just older.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Agree. I like the strategy. I like the thinking behind it.
- 11:34Speaker 2: It may not work out, but I like the Yeah.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, and you'll they'll see about Bennett and
- 11:40Speaker 3: Fhill of seas, They'll see about mcmick Williams any full
- 11:42Speaker 3: of season. Is he a corner? Is a nickel? Could
- 11:45Speaker 3: he do anything? You know, kind of contribute And then
- 11:49Speaker 3: you know the Nichols, Brandon Johnson's out there, could play
- 11:51Speaker 3: safety or nickel. We'll talk more about the safeties in
- 11:54Speaker 3: the next show. They got they gotta they have. It's
- 11:56Speaker 3: funny they have a lot of safeties. But that when
- 12:01Speaker 3: I say that, that will deserve a major explanation because
- 12:03Speaker 3: it's not what you think. Yeah, there's a lot of
- 12:06Speaker 3: there's a lot of movable parts with that one. But
- 12:09Speaker 3: I would say it's looking better, and I would say
- 12:13Speaker 3: that to finish it off. Rik Woollen and how he
- 12:15Speaker 3: plays is the major store here. And Vick is not
- 12:20Speaker 3: putting up with a lack of discipline, not gonna put
- 12:22Speaker 3: up with it. As you said, he'll sit hed him
- 12:24Speaker 3: care about money, right, It's great. I'm glad you brought
- 12:27Speaker 3: that up. I was only pointing out that from a
- 12:29Speaker 3: front office perspective, we didn't bring him in here for
- 12:33Speaker 3: the guy not to play. But as we learned with
- 12:36Speaker 3: Devin White, I don't care about your four and a
- 12:38Speaker 3: half million. You're not playing.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Yeah, you know last year. I mean he's just got hurt.
- 12:44Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, but even before he got heard, he
- 12:46Speaker 2: wasn't playing very much.
- 12:49Speaker 3: If I'm not mistaken, Yeah, yeah, he he he had
- 12:52Speaker 3: his role, right, Yeah, so yeah, we'll see. It's I
- 12:57Speaker 3: agree with you, it's looking better. But you'd like to
- 13:02Speaker 3: you would have liked to have addressed it. But we
- 13:05Speaker 3: we had had a feeling that they were not going
- 13:08Speaker 3: to draft anyone that they really think. Riqu will in
- 13:12Speaker 3: getting fresh start. Super Bowl winner, by the way, super
- 13:14Speaker 3: Bowl winner getting a fresh start, despite them making very
- 13:17Speaker 3: available the trade deadline. Several teams told us this he
- 13:21Speaker 3: was one of the corners that was out there and
- 13:22Speaker 3: they didn't get done. Whether Look, the Seahawks won a
- 13:25Speaker 3: super Bowl with a guy, you know, so yeah, guy's
- 13:28Speaker 3: got elite length. He's had one great season he's been
- 13:31Speaker 3: a steady regression. Like you said, he's on a one
- 13:33Speaker 3: year deal, proved deal with a lot of money, but
- 13:35Speaker 3: it's a proven deal in that if he doesn't play well,
- 13:39Speaker 3: he's going to be a journeyman. He's going to be
- 13:41Speaker 3: signing a vetteran minimum deal in the next year. That's
- 13:43Speaker 3: sure way to look at it.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I mean, it's pretty pretty nice on paper to say, hey,
- 13:47Speaker 1: our top three cornerbacks of all won Super Bowl, so
- 13:50Speaker 1: that's it's pretty good. You got Mitchell in Deseine with
- 13:52Speaker 1: the Eagles three years ago, and of course Bill in
- 13:54Speaker 1: last year, and so they've all played in big games.
- 13:57Speaker 3: They all have.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Here's the thing about the Eagles why they could be
- 14:01Speaker 2: even better.
- 14:01Speaker 1: And I'm not saying Riek Walland has to be way better,
- 14:05Speaker 1: Like he could just be the inconsistent guy of last year.
- 14:08Speaker 1: That's still a better version than adri Jackson, who's also inconsistent.
- 14:12Speaker 2: But the length, the size of him, with the.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Physicality, the playmaking ability of the gene from the Nicolas spot,
- 14:21Speaker 1: with the overall just excellence in every fast of the
- 14:24Speaker 1: game of Quinnon Mitchell, I think you'd be hard pressed
- 14:27Speaker 1: to find a top three. I know the Broncos have
- 14:31Speaker 1: a very good top three also, but you know, you
- 14:33Speaker 1: look around the league, you're not gonna find too many
- 14:35Speaker 1: top three situations better than the Eagles at corner.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Well yeah, and also just look the Vix also canna
- 14:41Speaker 3: do it whatever's best for the football team to win.
- 14:44Speaker 3: He's been very clear it's not just a cliche. He
- 14:47Speaker 3: also has Degene. If Willan's not playing well, and I
- 14:51Speaker 3: hate to say this, but if Jones isn't playing well,
- 14:54Speaker 3: he's got the Coop Degene move. So he's got that too.
- 14:58Speaker 3: So it's yet another corner that he he can use
- 15:00Speaker 3: instead of just playing at Nickels.
- 15:02Speaker 1: That yeah, and and he now with Michael Carter, we'll
- 15:04Speaker 1: get into this in the next episode as well, with Macouba,
- 15:07Speaker 1: with Carter, also Mick Williams.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Who he can't. He has guys who can play.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Nickel that he could potentially be confident in depending on
- 15:16Speaker 1: what he sees if he needed to make them move
- 15:18Speaker 1: to Cooper, to Gene, to the outside or even the safety.
- 15:21Speaker 1: But nonetheless he's got more hybrid guys. I think Matt
- 15:25Speaker 1: McWilliams is the guy Adam really looking at this situation
- 15:29Speaker 1: that has to do a better job of impressing his coaches.
- 15:32Speaker 1: This was a fourth round, a fifth round pick last year. Yeah,
- 15:36Speaker 1: that's not a chump. Changed pick.
- 15:39Speaker 2: And he came with like four four speed, four to
- 15:41Speaker 2: three speed. It was I know, he ran really well.
- 15:45Speaker 1: He's he's the guy that I'm looking at saying, you
- 15:47Speaker 1: got an opportunity here, kid, you gotta really, you know,
- 15:50Speaker 1: come with a good mindset and be ready to work
- 15:54Speaker 1: and win your spot on this roster. Hey, Philly fans,

- 16:47Speaker 1: Cam Den Apothecary top quality cannabis, great prices and an
- 16:52Speaker 1: experience made for Philly fans twenty one and up.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Yeah, he's gonna have an opportunity. See, he's a guy
- 16:57Speaker 3: that and I would say coaches like you know how
- 17:00Speaker 3: the way they feel when the guy doesn't dress. They
- 17:02Speaker 3: didn't think he was ready. That's that's exactly what it was.
- 17:06Speaker 3: So McWilliams to me, when you look at it, yeah,
- 17:10Speaker 3: he ran. He run as fast as you thought, but
- 17:12Speaker 3: it's pretty close. He ran a four for one, which
- 17:14Speaker 3: is really good.
- 17:15Speaker 2: So he doesn't play.
- 17:17Speaker 3: You wouldn't call him fast, but he moves well. Yes,
- 17:22Speaker 3: and you like the position versatility down His vert was
- 17:25Speaker 3: thirty four with the combine. Here's where it's a little
- 17:28Speaker 3: bit of a problem. This is why club saw Moore
- 17:31Speaker 3: of a nickel rather than the corner because he's he's
- 17:35Speaker 3: five ten in a quarter, but arms are really short
- 17:38Speaker 3: at twenty nine and seven a's hands are small to
- 17:42Speaker 3: eight and three A. So that's that's a problem.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 17:45Speaker 1: I thought, he's a guy who came out of training
- 17:47Speaker 1: camp early on, and we see this all the.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Time from rookies especially, have a good first few days.
- 17:53Speaker 2: He was a battler. I know, he gave some guys,
- 17:56Speaker 2: especially in red zone drills. He was physical and he
- 17:59Speaker 2: was good.
- 17:59Speaker 1: And then as the camps went on, you started to
- 18:02Speaker 1: see a little less and less and you get kind
- 18:04Speaker 1: of dragged that malaise and he, just as you mentioned,
- 18:07Speaker 1: didn't do enough to gain the confidence of Vic.
- 18:10Speaker 2: And then you had Howie sitting there, going to get Bennett,
- 18:13Speaker 2: going to get to get that guy. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 18:17Speaker 2: And Bennett's another guy.
- 18:18Speaker 1: It's it's kind of I don't want to call it
- 18:20Speaker 1: put up or shut up, but I mean, he obviously
- 18:22Speaker 1: has to play really well to be on this fifty three.
- 18:25Speaker 2: It's not guaranteed just because they traded for him last year.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Yeah. So, and so it might be the odd man out.
- 18:30Speaker 3: As we've been saying on like almost every off season show,
- 18:33Speaker 3: this is our ninth year of doing this thing, there
- 18:37Speaker 3: are gonna be some extremely tough decisions, which, well, let's
- 18:40Speaker 3: put it this way, on the service they are they
- 18:42Speaker 3: might not be once we get to the end of
- 18:43Speaker 3: training camp where the guy don't if they got him
- 18:45Speaker 3: before me, he's not on the team. But if if
- 18:47Speaker 3: these guys start coming on, it's gonna be hard. I
- 18:51Speaker 3: mean I remember talking to UH teammate the NFC West
- 18:54Speaker 3: for a bunch of years and they would say that
- 18:56Speaker 3: they're gonna have to wind up cutting or trading away
- 18:59Speaker 3: the guy they like to keep because they think the
- 19:01Speaker 3: competition was so good.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Yeah, they like.
- 19:04Speaker 3: That's what you hope that's on the surface, it could
- 19:07Speaker 3: be Yep, there are a lot of backup jobs open
- 19:09Speaker 3: that that that much is obvious.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Well, the real fascinating guy to me is Ringo because
- 19:14Speaker 1: we know that he's not in the plans to play
- 19:18Speaker 1: on defense.
- 19:18Speaker 2: I mean, he's been given opportunities, he has.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Not seized them. He cannot do that yet has not
- 19:25Speaker 1: shown it. But he's a very good special teamer and
- 19:28Speaker 1: that's what usually you want from your last to one.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Or making it. Yeah, he's making it somehow, and.
- 19:35Speaker 1: That's interesting because he's literally gonna make it just I
- 19:38Speaker 1: don't know ada because he'll got one.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Year left, so I know, I know.
- 19:42Speaker 1: But man, if you're very impressed with the special Teams
- 19:45Speaker 1: document of one of these other backup guys.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Williams, he's a pro bawl kind of guy as a
- 19:52Speaker 3: special teams gunner.
- 19:54Speaker 2: A very good special teamer.
- 19:55Speaker 3: He's it's a fair point because again, soon we're going
- 20:01Speaker 3: to do our. Andrew did his check out, did his.
- 20:03Speaker 3: But you and I will do our too soon, not
- 20:07Speaker 3: so soon. Fifty three. Yeah, I'm telling you. When I
- 20:10Speaker 3: did a couple of weeks ago, I was like, I
- 20:12Speaker 3: have sixty. I don't know him getting fifty three? Is
- 20:15Speaker 3: that because we haven't had haven't had any practices yet
- 20:17Speaker 3: so that we get a little bit of intel on
- 20:21Speaker 3: how guys are doing early. But this is a to
- 20:24Speaker 3: wrap this up. It's a better group on paper. It
- 20:28Speaker 3: doesn't mean it's going to be. You know, Mitchell's elite.
- 20:31Speaker 3: He's If he's not elite, it's pretty close to it.
- 20:34Speaker 3: He's stud a pro.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Oh he's I think I think he's I don't know what.
- 20:38Speaker 2: I don't know what box he'd have lefted.
- 20:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I don't know what
- 20:42Speaker 3: the metrics are. I've seen some, but I haven't seen
- 20:44Speaker 3: all of them.
- 20:45Speaker 1: But I think when they started traveling him last year
- 20:50Speaker 1: and then what Greg Cosell mentioned to me, is such
- 20:52Speaker 1: a big thing as that they started to roll the
- 20:54Speaker 1: safety away from him, even in one safety looks one
- 20:59Speaker 1: high set as he looks, So you're basically playing zero
- 21:02Speaker 1: coverage right when the safety rolls to the other side
- 21:05Speaker 1: of the field and you're a man i'n on one guy.
- 21:07Speaker 1: That's supreme confidence. That's your coordinator saying, I think you're elite.
- 21:12Speaker 3: And yes, because that was what we thought. We need
- 21:14Speaker 3: to see one thing, okay, the knock on him, but.
- 21:17Speaker 2: The lack of interceptions.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Yeah, and by what we were told with him in
- 21:22Speaker 3: Toledo is he had he had gloves for not the
- 21:24Speaker 3: right kind of gloves for hands on stick and gloves.
- 21:27Speaker 3: He just would fight the football. He just didn't have
- 21:29Speaker 3: a knack for it. Picks, But it's the length, it's
- 21:34Speaker 3: the intelligence, it's competitiveness, character, coverage ability. I'll take all that.
- 21:40Speaker 3: I'll deal with the no picks, that's okay.
- 21:42Speaker 2: And by the way, he gets picks in the playoffs
- 21:45Speaker 2: for some reason, so that's that's all that matters, right, Yeah,
- 21:48Speaker 2: didn't you have the picks in the playoffs?
- 21:49Speaker 3: Yeah? He well, he had, he had, yes, he fact is,
- 21:55Speaker 3: it's really crazy he has four On your point, he
- 21:58Speaker 3: only's won in the regular season. We're in the playoffs.
- 22:01Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 22:03Speaker 3: Actually, no, he is. He is none in the regular season. Right,
- 22:07Speaker 3: he's one fumber recovery. I'm corrected, he has one fumber
- 22:11Speaker 3: recovery in the regular season. But he has four picks
- 22:14Speaker 3: at two in each twenty four and two and twenty five. Yeah,
- 22:18Speaker 3: it's pretty remarkable and he's just I don't know. I
- 22:24Speaker 3: remember when we when we talked about Okay, Eagles thought
- 22:30Speaker 3: he was though he went to Tolida Worth being a
- 22:32Speaker 3: first rounder. And obviously they've been right in a big way.
- 22:36Speaker 3: But a lot of teams were worried about the level
- 22:38Speaker 3: that it wasn't so much the level of competition, didn't
- 22:41Speaker 3: really play man coverage right, and they weren't gonna they
- 22:44Speaker 3: just weren't going to take three practices at the Senior Bowl.
- 22:48Speaker 3: But I think how He said it, they needed to
- 22:50Speaker 3: see him playing man coverage, just good, good firm what
- 22:54Speaker 3: they thought. Yep, and they did. And sometimes you get
- 22:58Speaker 3: folded senior ball while they were not. And you know,
- 23:00Speaker 3: kudos to Howie's you don't always get it right, but
- 23:03Speaker 3: that was one. Those first two picks are kind of legendary.
- 23:08Speaker 3: So far.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Oh sure, all right.
