- 2:06Speaker 2: also tomorrow as well. Chris Lawrence and Tom Bragger here, Chris,
- 2:09Speaker 2: good morning, our show. You know, we got a little
- 2:13Speaker 2: bit of a Logan County flair going on here because
- 2:15Speaker 2: you are rocking the Man High Hillbillies hoodie today. I
- 2:19Speaker 2: go wearing this.
- 2:20Speaker 4: Somebody said goes, oh, you from Man because they are yeah,
- 2:24Speaker 4: and I went, no, I just know a guy.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Yes, you know the American psychic. I do know the
- 2:28Speaker 2: American American Psycho. Every Christmas there's a there's usually a
- 2:32Speaker 2: box that rolls in here to the radio ranch, and
- 2:35Speaker 2: it's usually got Hillbilly gear in it. I've got all
- 2:38Speaker 2: their baseball hats. They've got more baseball hats than major leaguers. Yeah,
- 2:42Speaker 2: they got like four different versions of that thing. And
- 2:45Speaker 2: the odd thing about that is T shirts and hoodies.
- 2:47Speaker 2: And Mike Crosby, who were referring to there's coach down there.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Mike and I have been friends for well over thirty years,
- 2:53Speaker 2: I have never gotten anything. That's because I graduated from Logans.
- 2:57Speaker 2: I am rocking the Logan high gear today because they
- 2:59Speaker 2: played Dodridge County. Well, so man Man gets another shot
- 3:02Speaker 2: at Wahama. Yeah, good luck, good luck. Tom Bragg is
- 3:07Speaker 2: here as well. Now man all right, Chris, I'll start
- 3:09Speaker 2: with your game that you're doing.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Yeah, we got a rematch of the Capitol Cougar's taking
- 3:13Speaker 4: on the Nitro Wildcats. This was a game that on
- 3:16Speaker 4: Halloween Night resulted in a twenty two to twenty final.
- 3:20Speaker 4: The first half featured just back and forth scoring with
- 3:24Speaker 4: lots of that game had everything, great defense, great offense.
- 3:28Speaker 4: We had a big boy touchdown with Zion Clark intercepting
- 3:32Speaker 4: a pass on the one yard line and stepping over
- 3:34Speaker 4: the line to score. And we had a couple of
- 3:37Speaker 4: missed extra points by both teams. So it was twenty
- 3:40Speaker 4: twenty at the half, and it was the second half.
- 3:43Speaker 4: A safety was the difference that Nitro tackled quarterback Fernando
- 3:47Speaker 4: Valdivia in the backfield, and the backfield just happened to
- 3:50Speaker 4: be in the end zone, and that was the I
- 3:52Speaker 4: did not think at the time that happened that would
- 3:54Speaker 4: be the end of the game. But that was the
- 3:56Speaker 4: final result of the game, was a two point win
- 3:58Speaker 4: by Nitro. They escaped that night. Can they do it again?
- 4:01Speaker 4: I know that Capital is relishing the opportunity to get
- 4:04Speaker 4: another chance at.
- 4:05Speaker 2: That, and you guys are on the air, ats.
- 4:06Speaker 4: We'll be on there at six thirty because playoff games
- 4:08Speaker 4: all kick off at seven o'clock on Friday night, so
- 4:11Speaker 4: that'll be the game. We'll we'll dump out of sports
- 4:13Speaker 4: line a little bit earlier this.
- 4:14Speaker 2: And you'll have a lot better weather than what you
- 4:16Speaker 2: did last week. Indeed, and I'll be in the booth
- 4:18Speaker 2: this week in the press box. They have made accommodations.
- 4:22Speaker 2: See take that, streamers, I said it. I don't care.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Well.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Well, we'll be in the booth tonight. But it's supposed
- 4:29Speaker 4: to be a beautiful night. It's a great night for
- 4:31Speaker 4: four Yeah, temperatures in the sixties and just a clear evening,
- 4:34Speaker 4: so it should.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Be a lot of fun, all right. West virgin Outdoors Tomorrow,
- 4:37Speaker 2: we're talking about deer season, a buck season in particular.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Coming up.
- 4:40Speaker 4: We'll have the deer Project leader from West Virginia DNR
- 4:42Speaker 4: on with us, Brett Skelly and we'll pick his brain.
- 4:45Speaker 2: About what we need to know going into hunting season.
- 4:47Speaker 2: All right, Chris Lawrence will be listening to night and
- 4:49Speaker 2: listening tomorrow morning. Have a great broadcast, have a good one,
- 4:52Speaker 2: and I will get a picture of us for you know,
- 4:54Speaker 2: rocking the logo. And then I'll have somebody from Chapmanville
- 4:57Speaker 2: region a little hit me up and go out. Can
- 4:58Speaker 2: we don't have Chapmanville gear on.
- 5:00Speaker 4: We don't have any friends in Chapmanville. We've had very
- 5:03Speaker 4: few friends to begin with. All Right, I will rock
- 5:06Speaker 4: the Chapmanville gear if they send some little fit. That's
- 5:08Speaker 4: kind of how I am. I'm gonna I'll take it
- 5:11Speaker 4: all so.
- 5:11Speaker 2: All right, we'll talk to some of the women down there.
- 5:13Speaker 2: All right, Tom Bragg is here. Uh you got Hoover right, yeah, Winfield,
- 5:18Speaker 2: Hoover and Winfield tomorrow. Fellas, I've got friends in Chapmanville.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I've got a Chappinville football shirt. I could have warned
- 5:23Speaker 2: we got to coordinate these things about Yeah, all right,
- 5:26Speaker 2: I do want to say this though, in all seriousness,
- 5:29Speaker 2: you know, hearts are heavy in LF right now because
- 5:31Speaker 2: of the mister Lipskin.
- 5:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I saw that this morning where the hometown of
- 5:35Speaker 5: the gentleman who passed away in the mind this week,
- 5:38Speaker 5: just an unfortunate situation that unfortunately, if we've been around
- 5:42Speaker 5: the media long enough, you've seen this a couple of times.
- 5:44Speaker 5: It never never gets any easier. Always a bad deal.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and apparently, I mean, you know, we talked about
- 5:48Speaker 2: it at Nausey Masterday. The guy died a hero. He
- 5:51Speaker 2: was a decorated war veteran as well, and so uh
- 5:54Speaker 2: uh and and I would say, you know, because he
- 5:56Speaker 2: was pretty well known in the l community. Even when
- 5:58Speaker 2: I understand that they'll probably do something that, yeah, I reckon.
- 6:00Speaker 5: They're pretty good about that stuff down there. But it's
- 6:03Speaker 5: an interesting game. David rematch, similar to Chris, is of
- 6:06Speaker 5: a regular season game, this one a little earlier in
- 6:08Speaker 5: the year, a little different result. In the regular season,
- 6:10Speaker 5: Hoover and Winfield played in Week two. That was the
- 6:13Speaker 5: Friday night. I'm sure Chris remembers of all the rain
- 6:15Speaker 5: and lightning. The games got delayed and a lot of
- 6:17Speaker 5: them pushed back to Saturday. Hoover and Winfield was one
- 6:19Speaker 5: of those. So we were on the air, Matt and
- 6:21Speaker 5: I for the Friday night portion of that. I forget
- 6:23Speaker 5: what the score was at the break, but Winfield hadn't scored,
- 6:25Speaker 5: Winfield hadn't gotten a first down by the time we
- 6:28Speaker 5: went into the break, resumed on Saturday, finished thirty five
- 6:32Speaker 5: zero Hoover, and I said, early in the year and
- 6:35Speaker 5: seeing that performance from Winfield, Matt and I both talked
- 6:37Speaker 5: and we were like, man, maybe this isn't going to
- 6:39Speaker 5: be a great year for Winfield. Seems like maybe they're
- 6:41Speaker 5: a little bit down. But the general seems to have
- 6:44Speaker 5: figured some things out along the way. They finished the
- 6:46Speaker 5: season seven and three. Their three losses pretty good teams.
- 6:49Speaker 5: They lost to Hoover, they lost to Nitro, and they
- 6:52Speaker 5: lost to Princeton. They won all the rest of them.
- 6:54Speaker 5: So we'll see what happens on Saturday. That's a one
- 6:56Speaker 5: o'clock kickoff out in Elkfu. We'll have that on ninety
- 6:58Speaker 5: six one and on five to eighty. But I'm curious
- 7:02Speaker 5: to see what this version of Winfield is because just
- 7:04Speaker 5: judging from the results and the people I have talked to,
- 7:06Speaker 5: it's a very different team than what we saw early
- 7:08Speaker 5: in September.
- 7:09Speaker 2: All Right, and of course after the game tonight, we'll
- 7:12Speaker 2: have the scoreboard show, right it's called Metron's Game Night,
- 7:16Speaker 2: Game Night. I don't know why. I just I was
- 7:18Speaker 2: gonna say spill on the air like twenty five years.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I don't know why. I just suddenly drew a blank.
- 7:23Speaker 4: And what the name of the Fred like the most
- 7:25Speaker 4: legendary broadcaster in high school football?
- 7:27Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's the Yeah, that's the little thing that
- 7:29Speaker 2: they do. Yeah. So that's that'll be on like thirty
- 7:32Speaker 2: five all right, and the internet. I know, I know,
- 7:36Speaker 2: I was in charge of putting that thing on the
- 7:38Speaker 2: air for many many years, and yet never knew the
- 7:40Speaker 2: name of it. I just called it the Fred Show.
- 7:42Speaker 2: All right.
- 7:43Speaker 5: All right, guys, go do some work. Usually I usually
- 7:46Speaker 5: just say Dave and Fred keep it simple.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, But which Dave, which of the fifty seven
- 7:50Speaker 2: days in this company is that you run into that sometimes?
- 7:53Speaker 3: Right?
- 7:54Speaker 2: All right, Bragg and Lawrence, we appreciate you both, Thank you,
- 7:56Speaker 2: thanks a lot. The Dave Island Show That's Me is

- 8:08Speaker 2: Dinador pickup at Hustin's Pizza dot Com was welcome and
- 8:10Speaker 2: Angie Gillenwater from the Canal Charleston, You're main association with
- 8:13Speaker 2: this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week, Angie,
- 8:16Speaker 2: Good morning, how you doing?
- 8:18Speaker 6: Good morning.
- 8:18Speaker 3: I'm excited to talk about the pet this week.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean we've already got, you know, a little
- 8:23Speaker 2: internet buzz going on because our Adopt Me Please pet
- 8:26Speaker 2: of the Week this week. Not a dog, not a cats,
- 8:30Speaker 2: it's a pig. It's a big name, Amy Swinehouse. I
- 8:35Speaker 2: got at you sent me that last night, and as
- 8:38Speaker 2: you always do, you send them with the information, and
- 8:39Speaker 2: I thought, well, that's that's good. Angie's drinking, That's what
- 8:43Speaker 2: I thought. But so we got a pig and we
- 8:46Speaker 2: got the picture posted Dave Allen Rainio on Facebook at
- 8:49Speaker 2: Dave A seventy and x. Also the WCHS network page.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Tell us the story of our Adopt Me Please put
- 8:54Speaker 2: of the Week Amy's Swinehouse.
- 8:57Speaker 6: Uh So, miss Amy, she came to us yesterday yesterday afternoon.
- 9:02Speaker 6: She was abandoned in like a little pig pen area.
- 9:07Speaker 6: We initially thought that, you know, she had just been
- 9:10Speaker 6: left abandoned, but it turns out that her owner passed away,
- 9:13Speaker 6: so we are searching for a new home for her.
- 9:15Speaker 6: We don't really have the means to take care of
- 9:17Speaker 6: her long term at the shelter, so we've been her
- 9:20Speaker 6: adoption to zero dollars for potential adopters to come up
- 9:24Speaker 6: and take her and give her a much better life
- 9:26Speaker 6: than what we can long term. But she's super sweet.
- 9:31Speaker 6: She literally she just walked up to all of us
- 9:34Speaker 6: yesterday with her little piggy tail, just wagging and grunting
- 9:38Speaker 6: and oinking at us. But I don't have any history
- 9:42Speaker 6: on you know, how old she is, what breed she is,
- 9:46Speaker 6: So if the pig experts want to weigh in on
- 9:48Speaker 6: that one for me, yeah.
- 9:49Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know the first thing about about
- 9:53Speaker 2: pigs and other than I will say it's a good
- 9:56Speaker 2: looking pig, and the picture is posted you can go
- 9:59Speaker 2: check it out for yourself. But you said it's about
- 10:01Speaker 2: one hundred pounds, right, Yeah, I would say she's.
- 10:03Speaker 6: About one hundred dish pounds and me being around five
- 10:07Speaker 6: foot eleven, she comes up to about my kneecasts. Okay,
- 10:09Speaker 6: all right, so she's kind of on the petite side
- 10:12Speaker 6: of the pigs that I've seen in my time.
- 10:15Speaker 2: There's something you'll ever say again. All right, So for people,
- 10:18Speaker 2: and I don't know how much experence you have at this,
- 10:20Speaker 2: but but for people, for people that maybe you've encountered
- 10:25Speaker 2: in the past that have raised pigs, what do you
- 10:27Speaker 2: need to know about raising pigs? Because I was just
- 10:30Speaker 2: we were talking off air. Chris Lawrence's son when he
- 10:32Speaker 2: was growing up, had a pet pig. Leah, one of
- 10:34Speaker 2: the girls in her office, she had a pig at
- 10:37Speaker 2: one point. It's not for everybody, because it's not It's
- 10:39Speaker 2: a little bit of a different animal to have, right, correct.
- 10:43Speaker 6: So I've never personally had pigs as pets before, but
- 10:47Speaker 6: I have heard and also reading through our Facebook comments
- 10:51Speaker 6: that they are very very very smart creatures and they
- 10:55Speaker 6: need a person to take them that can you know,
- 10:57Speaker 6: if that can handle that and train that appropriately or else.
- 11:01Speaker 6: If they're not you know, trained appropriately and cared for appropriately,
- 11:04Speaker 6: they do become menaces, is what I've heard. So, but yeah,
- 11:09Speaker 6: I would say that if you had if this is
- 11:11Speaker 6: going to be your first time pig, please research before
- 11:14Speaker 6: you come up to us, because we also are first
- 11:16Speaker 6: pretty much first time pig owners and don't have a
- 11:19Speaker 6: lot of info for you, so please please please research well.
- 11:23Speaker 2: And we had a text here about that, and I
- 11:26Speaker 2: would have put it says, how do your research an
- 11:28Speaker 2: adopter for a pig that they will not harm her?
- 11:30Speaker 2: And I and I know what they mean by harm her.
- 11:32Speaker 2: They mean put her on a plate more than likely,
- 11:35Speaker 2: That's what they mean. These type of pigs, I mean,
- 11:37Speaker 2: you know, and I'm going to say this as nicely
- 11:39Speaker 2: as I can. Chris and I talked about this. These
- 11:41Speaker 2: type of pigs are not going to make good bacon.
- 11:43Speaker 2: They're not They're not designed for that, I mean, and
- 11:45Speaker 2: then they're they're not good. These are pets. These are
- 11:48Speaker 2: not designed for that. And they're probably what I from
- 11:50Speaker 2: what Chris told me and his son said, uh, and
- 11:53Speaker 2: his research is that they are not They're they're not
- 11:56Speaker 2: to be eaten. They're not that kind of pig exactly.
- 11:59Speaker 6: That's just how we were talking about like yesterday, That's
- 12:02Speaker 6: how we were deciding on, you know, what heard options
- 12:06Speaker 6: you would be and how we were going to avoid that.
- 12:08Speaker 6: And somebody made the point that people that butcher pigs
- 12:11Speaker 6: for me and raise them for me, know what kind
- 12:14Speaker 6: of pigs to raise and butcher for meat and whatever
- 12:19Speaker 6: type of pig she is, which to me she kind
- 12:21Speaker 6: of looks like a pot bellied pig. They like you said,
- 12:24Speaker 6: they do not make good meat. Pigs that you know
- 12:27Speaker 6: are going to last year through the winter.
- 12:30Speaker 2: All right, all right, we had a question here, said,
- 12:32Speaker 2: how this, How are the six puppies that were left
- 12:34Speaker 2: outside in an unsecured tote with no food, water, blankets,
- 12:37Speaker 2: soaked and freezing? Saw the pick on Facebook and they're
- 12:40Speaker 2: beautiful and do you know anything about that?
- 12:43Speaker 6: So later in the day we noticed that they were
- 12:46Speaker 6: a little ill, so we did a parvo test to
- 12:50Speaker 6: test them for parvovirus and they did end up testing positive.
- 12:54Speaker 6: So they are all receiving treatment in our parvo isolation. Ward,
- 12:58Speaker 6: all of them are doing phenomenal. All they're still playful
- 13:01Speaker 6: and happy little puppies. And say, if you're interested in adopting,
- 13:05Speaker 6: they should be available within the next ten days or so.
- 13:09Speaker 2: All Right, you guys out and about anywhere this weekend.
- 13:12Speaker 6: I'll be at the Sell Charleston Library tomorrow from twelve
- 13:15Speaker 6: to three hanging out with some adoptable puppies and kittens.
- 13:18Speaker 6: If anyone wants to stop.
- 13:19Speaker 2: By now, if you wanted to take the pig out.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Could you do that?
- 13:23Speaker 6: I guess I could, But my key a K five
- 13:26Speaker 6: is not quite equipped to transport her, so I guess I.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Could, though, Yeah, I mean I just was kind of
- 13:33Speaker 2: wondering about that. And somebody also had asked you of
- 13:36Speaker 2: the text on Angie about some of the restrictions about
- 13:39Speaker 2: having pet pigs, like in city limits and things of
- 13:41Speaker 2: that nature. You don't anything about that, correct.
- 13:44Speaker 6: So that actually is so within certain city limits here
- 13:48Speaker 6: in Kandall County, you are actually not allowed to own
- 13:51Speaker 6: pet pigs, farm pigs, et cetera. So a lot of
- 13:55Speaker 6: the pigs that we do get into the shelter are
- 13:57Speaker 6: because of those, you know, those laws that are set
- 13:59Speaker 6: in that you may not have the pigs.
- 14:01Speaker 2: So, I mean, what we would urge people to do
- 14:04Speaker 2: is is just reach out and do their research and
- 14:06Speaker 2: find out if you live in city limits of Charleston,
- 14:09Speaker 2: Saint Aubans, wherever you may be listening, make sure that
- 14:11Speaker 2: you can have one of those in city limits. I mean,
- 14:13Speaker 2: that's it. And again, these pets are these pigs, I mean,
- 14:17Speaker 2: they're basically like dogs. I mean they stay inside, for
- 14:20Speaker 2: some of them do anyway, they stay inside they're very,
- 14:23Speaker 2: very gentle, most of them are. There's going to be
- 14:24Speaker 2: exceptions to that. So I would say before you think
- 14:27Speaker 2: about adopting the pig, that you do a little research.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Call your city hall, go online or whatever and find
- 14:31Speaker 2: out whether you're allowed to have said animal within within
- 14:35Speaker 2: the city limits. All right, what do you need of?
- 14:37Speaker 2: I know you always need some stuff of their donation wise,
- 14:39Speaker 2: what do you need of?
- 14:41Speaker 6: Purina, dog, chel dog, wet food and volunteers are big
- 14:45Speaker 6: ones right now to just help us get the dogs
- 14:48Speaker 6: outside a little bit more than what we can offer.
- 14:51Speaker 6: So if you want to walk a dog, and I
- 14:53Speaker 6: know it's a little cold outside, but they would truly
- 14:55Speaker 6: appreciate it.
- 14:56Speaker 2: All right, and you we appreciate it. And we got

- 18:07Speaker 2: Amos Steel Company is just tamous Steel Steel. I was
- 18:11Speaker 2: reading his shirt. It says Amos.
- 18:12Speaker 10: Still she's got the old shirt. He's he's not allowed
- 18:15Speaker 10: to wear new clothing.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Okay, I got you, I got you. So Amos Steele
- 18:20Speaker 2: is the band? Uh who wants to start us off
- 18:23Speaker 2: here to tell us about the history of the band?
- 18:25Speaker 10: I will, uh, and you are and I'm Johnny Compton. Okay.
- 18:29Speaker 10: We started the band in twenty eighteen.
- 18:31Speaker 11: Uh.
- 18:31Speaker 10: At that point it was myself Doodle here and my
- 18:34Speaker 10: son on bass and we recorded our first album, West
- 18:37Speaker 10: by God. It came out with twenty twenty, twenty twenty,
- 18:40Speaker 10: I believe it did. And Uh, since that time, man,
- 18:43Speaker 10: it's been a We've evolved and uh now to we're
- 18:46Speaker 10: we're a seven piece band, three guitars, keyboards, if we
- 18:50Speaker 10: have a female vocalist, and uh, you know, we're where
- 18:54Speaker 10: we are right now is where we wanted to be
- 18:56Speaker 10: at the beginning. So we're really happy with the lineup,
- 18:59Speaker 10: really happy with these songs, uh, and just excited to
- 19:03Speaker 10: get them out to you guys.
- 19:04Speaker 2: How would you describe to music? We're gonna roll some
- 19:06Speaker 2: of it here a little.
- 19:07Speaker 10: Bit so people get out rock and roll West Virginia.
- 19:09Speaker 10: Rock and roll is what we call it. Obviously, there
- 19:12Speaker 10: are some our influences do show, uh, Southern rock and
- 19:16Speaker 10: blues and that that sort of thing. But we call
- 19:19Speaker 10: it West Virginia rock man.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Well, and that's the thing about you know, growing up
- 19:23Speaker 2: here in West Virginia. Are you all you guys from
- 19:25Speaker 2: West Virginia?
- 19:26Speaker 10: Okay?
- 19:26Speaker 2: All right? Uh so we we get a lot of
- 19:29Speaker 2: different kinds of music in here. I mean because being
- 19:31Speaker 2: West Virginia, you're gonna have a little country, but you're
- 19:33Speaker 2: gonna have some bluegrass and you're gonna have some rock.
- 19:36Speaker 10: And I mean we got we had a little bit
- 19:37Speaker 10: of or and there is some country influence in what
- 19:39Speaker 10: we do too.
- 19:40Speaker 2: And there is a I mean people, I think sometimes
- 19:42Speaker 2: don't realize that there is a thriving music secene a
- 19:44Speaker 2: West Virginia. I mean you talk about everybody knows about
- 19:47Speaker 2: mountain stage and things of that nature, and but but
- 19:49Speaker 2: I mean there is.
- 19:51Speaker 10: West Virginia is fantastic. It's fantastic. So many amazing musicians.
- 19:56Speaker 12: Quite a few good great musicians just here.
- 19:58Speaker 2: A little absolutely and talk about mean the history of
- 20:01Speaker 2: musicians that have come out of West Virginia. I mean
- 20:03Speaker 2: people like Johnny Johnson and uh John Ellison, and I
- 20:06Speaker 2: mean there's a lot of good uh, Bob Thompson, Charlie McCoy,
- 20:11Speaker 2: I mean I could just go on and on about
- 20:13Speaker 2: the legend. Yeah, and that's just a few of them.
- 20:17Speaker 2: That's just a few of them.
- 20:18Speaker 13: Well, we did the we did the first album we did.
- 20:22Speaker 13: Somebody reporter did a review and he described us. He said,
- 20:26Speaker 13: if Leonard Scanner and Motorhead had a baby, it would
- 20:29Speaker 13: be a steel And that's.
- 20:32Speaker 10: The first the first record. Yeah, the first record is
- 20:35Speaker 10: is Uh. It came out a little heavier than that
- 20:38Speaker 10: I think we anticipated in coming out because of the
- 20:41Speaker 10: time period we were it was. It was written written
- 20:43Speaker 10: during COVID and you know, we couldn't be around each
- 20:45Speaker 10: other very much, so just wound up being a little
- 20:48Speaker 10: darker and a little angrier than than but which I mean,
- 20:51Speaker 10: it's a great album, very very but it's it's It
- 20:54Speaker 10: definitely has the that uh that bob to the edge
- 20:57Speaker 10: to it. This one. This album is uh. I I
- 21:00Speaker 10: like to think we've refined it a little a little bit,
- 21:03Speaker 10: you know what I mean, and and really settled into
- 21:04Speaker 10: what we are.
- 21:06Speaker 14: So you know, with the with the addition of the
- 21:08Speaker 14: keyboards and Bush on base and the vocals Tracy and
- 21:13Speaker 14: Terry and we've got several of us sing so uh
- 21:16Speaker 14: that having those extra weapons, So to pull upon we
- 21:20Speaker 14: get these songs together really makes a big difference.
- 21:22Speaker 2: And this is all original musically. Okay, you guys, when
- 21:26Speaker 2: you're in concert, I'm sure you do a cover.
- 21:28Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, in concert, we we throw some covers in.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I mean, because it's required that every band do give
- 21:33Speaker 2: me three steps. I mean that's before you get your
- 21:39Speaker 2: musician's license in West virgin You got to do that
- 21:42Speaker 2: and figure out how to do country roads somehow. Everybody
- 21:44Speaker 2: that those are those required.
- 21:45Speaker 10: Exactly we do.
- 21:46Speaker 3: We do.
- 21:47Speaker 10: We actually do a version of country Roads, but it's not.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Like and that's good. That's what we want to hear.
- 21:53Speaker 2: All right, you want to play a little bit of
- 21:55Speaker 2: their music here. I don't know what we're gonna That's
- 21:57Speaker 2: why I put parent Zeno in there. Mountain song. Okay,
- 22:00Speaker 2: that's what you were screaming in my earlier with Mountain song. Okay,
- 22:02Speaker 2: so we're gonna play this, uh, this particular track and
- 22:05Speaker 2: we'll let it go for a little while. You starting
- 22:07Speaker 2: from the beginning, Stephanie, Okay, we're starting from wherever Tony
- 22:10Speaker 2: the Taylor says, we're supposed to start it from missus
- 22:11Speaker 2: Mountain song, don't.
- 22:16Speaker 15: Sing enough being no word, chasing his tail, Losy Dacy shoes.
- 22:27Speaker 13: Man in the brooks down and.
- 22:33Speaker 1: In another soul for nuts, got.
- 22:39Speaker 2: A nice cold beer, my feet rocked.
- 22:45Speaker 15: Second calm whiskey from the coffee.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Let it.
- 22:54Speaker 13: Not saying.
- 22:57Speaker 2: It singing a cold.
- 23:01Speaker 3: Matter?
- 23:02Speaker 10: Who's wrong?
- 23:02Speaker 1: Over all? Right?
- 23:07Speaker 2: What you're listening to? You there, that's a little lamous
- 23:09Speaker 2: steel there and that's Mountain song. Now, which one of
- 23:12Speaker 2: you is responsible for that or the collaborative efort? It's
- 23:14Speaker 2: pretty much a collaborative effort. I tend to start things
- 23:19Speaker 2: with the first three.
- 23:20Speaker 10: Songs anyway, Uh, I tend to. I wrote, I think
- 23:24Speaker 10: I wrote all the lyrics.
- 23:25Speaker 12: And mostly we just we added a few, Yeah, we had.
- 23:28Speaker 10: I wrote this first right now this so I it's
- 23:31Speaker 10: just a song about being from West Virginia, living up
- 23:33Speaker 10: in up the hills and not not wanting to be
- 23:36Speaker 10: messed with, you know, by anyone, just want to live
- 23:38Speaker 10: your life.
- 23:39Speaker 2: And sure, what's your guy's writing style? Like, I mean,
- 23:42Speaker 2: is it? Do you get in? Because that's one thing
- 23:44Speaker 2: I love to talk to musicians about or even authors.
- 23:46Speaker 2: It's like, well do you sit down and say I'm
- 23:48Speaker 2: gonna write or do you say I'm driving through the
- 23:51Speaker 2: Wendy's and I get this idea for something I write
- 23:53Speaker 2: on the back of a napkin. What's your what you're
- 23:54Speaker 2: writing song?
- 23:55Speaker 10: Little bit of both, I think, uh, yeah.
- 23:57Speaker 14: We uh like I'll write stuff, come up with lyrics
- 24:01Speaker 14: all the time, almost spend a lot of time on
- 24:02Speaker 14: the road. So I have done exactly that, just literally
- 24:05Speaker 14: kind of yeah, he'd come back, but I'll have a time.
- 24:07Speaker 12: I've got to from point A to point B. Have
- 24:09Speaker 12: done written song.
- 24:11Speaker 10: Keitha Keisa extremely prolific. Uh, lyric writer man and writer period. Uh.
- 24:16Speaker 10: The next three songs that we're working on for the
- 24:18Speaker 10: for volume two are all his lyrics are on his songs.
- 24:21Speaker 14: And but you know, for instance, you know, Johnny and
- 24:24Speaker 14: I sit down sometimes I'll say, hey, let's take this
- 24:27Speaker 14: this practice session and see if we got right, got
- 24:30Speaker 14: if we got and he goes, I got this. Uh,
- 24:32Speaker 14: I was coming up with this, and he had this
- 24:34Speaker 14: guitar thing, and I said, I got something for it.
- 24:39Speaker 12: I think this will go with that. And next thing,
- 24:41Speaker 12: you know, here it comes.
- 24:42Speaker 2: And this happens with bands more than you will think,
- 24:45Speaker 2: because I've done a lot of you know, reading about
- 24:47Speaker 2: you know, watching biographies and reading biographies and whatever, and
- 24:50Speaker 2: that is that is a frequent thing. It's like somebody
- 24:52Speaker 2: will come in with some lyrics and go, look, I've
- 24:54Speaker 2: been working on this guitar riff, but I didn't know
- 24:57Speaker 2: where to put it exactly. Uh, and that's what we're
- 24:59Speaker 2: gonna do.
- 24:59Speaker 10: The thing about this new record, Like I said, with
- 25:01Speaker 10: the first record, it was pretty much, you know, I'd
- 25:05Speaker 10: done most of it and Merry Travis had done most
- 25:08Speaker 10: of it, and then uh, you know, just but this
- 25:11Speaker 10: this record is much more, much more collaborative effort. We're
- 25:15Speaker 10: all we're all involved in the songwriting. We're all involved
- 25:18Speaker 10: in arranging. And that's when Terry, Terry and Anders are
- 25:21Speaker 10: extremely good at arrangements and and you know, putting stuff in,
- 25:25Speaker 10: taking stuff out. Yeah, you know, great ideas, great ideas.
- 25:28Speaker 10: I mean, they really keep this. They made these songs
- 25:31Speaker 10: come alive.
- 25:32Speaker 2: So talk about you guys individually as far as like
- 25:35Speaker 2: when you first realize music is what I want to do,
- 25:38Speaker 2: your guests start. I mean, just because I'm going to
- 25:39Speaker 2: presume you started when when you're really young or what
- 25:42Speaker 2: I was about.
- 25:43Speaker 10: Guess about thirteen when I started, and uh, at.
- 25:46Speaker 2: The time that you would have been discovering girls pretty much.
- 25:49Speaker 10: Yeah, generally say that wasn't a driving force, you know,
- 25:54Speaker 10: I'm sure it. It definitely had a had a hand
- 25:57Speaker 10: in it. But man, for me, it was a kiss's three.
- 26:00Speaker 2: I was gonna say, we have your text here. Somebody
- 26:01Speaker 2: want to know about your influence.
- 26:03Speaker 10: My very first influences, uh was was Ace Freely. I mean,
- 26:07Speaker 10: I mean you the Kiss a live record. Anybody who's
- 26:10Speaker 10: starting to play guitar or want to play music, I
- 26:12Speaker 10: challenge you to look at that album cover and not
- 26:14Speaker 10: want to play music. It just looks so cool, it
- 26:17Speaker 10: looks so awesome. And he was my first hero, in
- 26:19Speaker 10: which we recently lost him, which was a huge bluff.
- 26:22Speaker 10: But yeah, and then after that it went on to uh,
- 26:24Speaker 10: you know more uh Randy Rhodes, uh from Oi Osborne
- 26:28Speaker 10: and then into southern rock like Ricky Medlock and uh
- 26:32Speaker 10: Steve Gaines and and stuff like that. And vocally I'm
- 26:37Speaker 10: more long like Greg Allman, Warren Haynes and stuff like that.
- 26:42Speaker 2: So what about you, guys.
- 26:44Speaker 13: I started beating on pots and paint when I was
- 26:48Speaker 13: a kid, and.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Then somebody and then somebody, somebody, smam, you're gonna have
- 26:54Speaker 2: to get your son out of the show kitchen.
- 26:56Speaker 13: Okay, what's funny the amount he mentions kiss right, Well,
- 27:00Speaker 13: I remember the first concert I went to was Kissed.
- 27:04Speaker 13: I was in the third grade, my brother was in
- 27:07Speaker 13: kindergarten and Mom took us to Huntington for it was
- 27:10Speaker 13: the Dynasty tour and Judas Priest opened up and I
- 27:14Speaker 13: remember it like it happened yesterday. Yeah, so yeah, Mama
- 27:19Speaker 13: is to blame for this. And uh, just like you
- 27:23Speaker 13: know Bonham, I'm a big Zeppelin fan. John Bonham was
- 27:27Speaker 13: a god Neil Perk. Oh my gosh.
- 27:29Speaker 3: You know.
- 27:31Speaker 13: I wouldn't try I play caveman drums.
- 27:34Speaker 10: I beat.
- 27:35Speaker 13: I beat the drums like they owe me monk. Yeah,
- 27:38Speaker 13: that's the best way that I can.
- 27:41Speaker 14: What about you, I'm very much like Johnny I remember
- 27:44Speaker 14: of being I was about I'd always had a little
- 27:46Speaker 14: guitur and stuff the time I was really little, and uh,
- 27:49Speaker 14: but the time I said, about twelve thirteen years old,
- 27:51Speaker 14: I was, you know, really started buying, you know, started
- 27:54Speaker 14: getting music, old Columbia house, you know, getting you know,
- 27:57Speaker 14: signing up.
- 27:57Speaker 13: By the way.
- 27:59Speaker 14: Yeah, yeah for that, you probably do. It's probably still
- 28:02Speaker 14: looking for me. But again, it was Ace Rayley and kiss.
- 28:06Speaker 2: It was a huge.
- 28:07Speaker 12: Influence for me wanting to get started.
- 28:09Speaker 14: And then I just I love the lot of that
- 28:12Speaker 14: southern rock and classic rock.
- 28:14Speaker 2: And you're speaking my language now, you know. I mean,
- 28:18Speaker 2: I I don't know what what age that I discovered
- 28:21Speaker 2: Leonard Skinnered, but it I mean, it sounds like it's
- 28:26Speaker 2: hyperbolic to say it changed my life, but it changed
- 28:28Speaker 2: my life. I never get tired, I'll never get day.
- 28:31Speaker 2: The worst. In my opinion, the worst Leonard Skinnered song
- 28:34Speaker 2: is better than ninety five percent. There there's no bad
- 28:37Speaker 2: I mean, in my opinion, yes, much like better than others.
- 28:39Speaker 9: Uh.
- 28:40Speaker 10: And of course people, I mean people kind of want
- 28:41Speaker 10: to bag on the newer Leonard Skinner, but it is
- 28:44Speaker 10: really really good music.
- 28:45Speaker 2: I agree, really. I mean, it's not going to be
- 28:49Speaker 2: Ronnie van zandt nobody is.
- 28:51Speaker 10: But if you go, get no closer than Johnny.
- 28:54Speaker 2: And when they put when they added Ricky Medlock, I
- 28:56Speaker 2: mean to the band, I just watched it. I have
- 28:58Speaker 2: a concert, uh that I recorded up somewhere, and every
- 29:02Speaker 2: so often, you know, it's just like I just hit
- 29:04Speaker 2: play and I just want to just want to watch
- 29:06Speaker 2: that again.
- 29:06Speaker 10: Man and Ricky Medlocke is. I mean he's royalty Southern relations.
- 29:10Speaker 10: Absolutely no, He's like he's like seasoned salt, yet didn't anything.
- 29:15Speaker 10: It makes it better.
- 29:15Speaker 14: Yeah, going to concerts. Charleston used to get so many
- 29:20Speaker 14: concerts back in the day you could go. I mean
- 29:22Speaker 14: they were every month. Seemed like somebody who want or
- 29:24Speaker 14: more rock concerts, good rock, And.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Hopefully that's coming back. I mean it is, but but
- 29:29Speaker 2: we don't want to. You know, everybody wants the big
- 29:31Speaker 2: artists and and I get that, but but there's something
- 29:34Speaker 2: to be said for the local music here, no matter
- 29:37Speaker 2: what the genre. And they all started, yeah, they all started. Definitely,
- 29:42Speaker 2: Let's roll another track here. This one's called Ain't going
- 29:45Speaker 2: out that way?
- 29:46Speaker 3: Those are.
- 29:50Speaker 11: Days forgiveness, love to pain of cost I read red evente,
- 30:02Speaker 11: please say so understanding that.
- 30:09Speaker 15: I have lived by the sore, butter ain't going out
- 30:14Speaker 15: that wiggie stepping up the window, reflecting on the things

- 34:01Speaker 10: People, Okay, what exactly does Tony the Taylor do? Tony
- 34:07Speaker 10: is our manager. He we referred to him as the Godfather,
- 34:09Speaker 10: the Colonel. Yeah, the Colonel he is. We bought him
- 34:12Speaker 10: when he first agreed to hang around with our with
- 34:15Speaker 10: this lot of degenerates and uh, we get well, let's
- 34:20Speaker 10: be honest.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Well, yeah, this is Tony the Taylor.
- 34:22Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean it's not that far of a stretch,
- 34:25Speaker 10: but we bought him a cricket bat in honor of
- 34:28Speaker 10: Peter Grant. So he's our Peter Grant.
- 34:30Speaker 13: And if you don't know who Peter Grant is, he

- 38:51Speaker 2: Let's bringing the Voice of the Thundering heard Steve Cotton.
- 38:53Speaker 2: Good morning, sir, How are you doing well?
- 38:55Speaker 3: Dave? How about you?
- 38:56Speaker 2: I am doing fine. Thank you for taking time out
- 38:58Speaker 2: of your schedule to be here today. And by the way,
- 39:00Speaker 2: I want to start with this. The general theme of
- 39:02Speaker 2: the show today, Steve is you know, we do our
- 39:04Speaker 2: adopt Me Please Pet of the Week, and we're trying
- 39:06Speaker 2: to get a pig adopted. I think Steve Cotton needs
- 39:09Speaker 2: to adopt this pig.
- 39:11Speaker 3: The problem there, Dave, is my travel schedule.
- 39:16Speaker 2: We'll take the pig with you.
- 39:16Speaker 3: I've gone so much I would spend all my time
- 39:19Speaker 3: trying to find somebody to come take care of the pig.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Just take it with you.
- 39:26Speaker 3: Maybe on the bus trips we could get away with that,
- 39:29Speaker 3: but the flights might be an issue.
- 39:31Speaker 2: It's a service pig. Everybody's got a service animal these days,
- 39:34Speaker 2: are gonna have a service pig. All right, Well, we'll
- 39:36Speaker 2: talk about that a little bit later. I want to
- 39:37Speaker 2: get serious here for a moment. Today is a somber day,
- 39:40Speaker 2: of course, and heard nation fifty five years ago that
- 39:42Speaker 2: the plane went down the Fountain ceremony coming up later today,
- 39:46Speaker 2: and Steve is someone who has been around Marshall for
- 39:49Speaker 2: some time. You get the importance of this, sir, talk
- 39:52Speaker 2: about it certainly.
- 39:54Speaker 3: And even though I did not arrive at Marshall in
- 39:58Speaker 3: Huntington until Bill nearly a quarter century after that. One
- 40:03Speaker 3: of the first people, a few of the first people
- 40:06Speaker 3: I met were family members of those who were on
- 40:09Speaker 3: the plane. So even though I sort of knew the
- 40:12Speaker 3: story before that, and this was before the We Are
- 40:15Speaker 3: Marshall movie and the Ashes to Glory documentary, so now
- 40:20Speaker 3: people know more far and way, far, far and wide
- 40:23Speaker 3: the gist of the story. But I knew that it
- 40:26Speaker 3: had happened. But as soon as you meet Keith Morehouse
- 40:29Speaker 3: and on and on, it really hits home. And now,
- 40:35Speaker 3: thirty three years later, for me, every year I still
- 40:39Speaker 3: learned something new, somebody whose story connects them in some way.
- 40:45Speaker 3: Recently talked to one of the Crito Canova firefighters who
- 40:52Speaker 3: was the second one on the scene and heard that
- 40:54Speaker 3: story for the first time. So it is intertwined not
- 40:59Speaker 3: only with Marshall, but with the Tri State area and
- 41:02Speaker 3: so many people. And it is the day now where
- 41:08Speaker 3: it really comes to the forefront in everybody's mind.
- 41:11Speaker 2: And the new one to mention that the keynote speaker
- 41:13Speaker 2: for the Fountain ceremony today is a lady whose father
- 41:16Speaker 2: was killed in the crash, and she's going to be
- 41:18Speaker 2: the first guy well, she's gonna be on talk I'm
- 41:20Speaker 2: not really sure the positioning, but she'll be on talk
- 41:22Speaker 2: line with Wilson and Meadows coming up later today. And
- 41:24Speaker 2: you know, Steve and I talked about this somebody recently.
- 41:27Speaker 2: One of the things I really, I really love is
- 41:29Speaker 2: the university goes out of its way to make sure
- 41:33Speaker 2: that every newcomer there, whether it's a player coming in,
- 41:35Speaker 2: whether it's a coach, new ad Jerald Harrison to Talk
- 41:39Speaker 2: We interviewed him last week on Metro News Midday. They
- 41:41Speaker 2: make sure that everybody that comes on campus knows that story.
- 41:45Speaker 3: Yeah, it's critically important to get an understanding, to know
- 41:49Speaker 3: exactly how to go into the situation. And this year,
- 41:54Speaker 3: more than seventy new players, Dave nearly an entirely new
- 41:59Speaker 3: coach staff, and so they're all going through it for
- 42:02Speaker 3: the first time. And then this is unusual. Typically we've
- 42:06Speaker 3: been able to work it out with the conference and
- 42:08Speaker 3: so on, where we play a home game on the
- 42:12Speaker 3: date closest to the crash. It is extended this year
- 42:16Speaker 3: because tomorrow's game is at Georgia State. Last Saturday was
- 42:22Speaker 3: the home game closest to the date, and so that
- 42:24Speaker 3: was what we now call the memorial game or the
- 42:27Speaker 3: seventy five game where Marshall players wore black head to
- 42:31Speaker 3: toe and you have almost like a memorial service right
- 42:35Speaker 3: before kickoff, and that's emotional in and of itself. And
- 42:38Speaker 3: now a week later you're going through more emotions. So
- 42:42Speaker 3: that's a lot for the people who've never been through
- 42:45Speaker 3: this before.
- 42:45Speaker 2: Talking to Steve Cotton, the voice of the Thundering Hervey
- 42:47Speaker 2: Dave Allen Show on five eighty Live is brought to
- 42:49Speaker 2: you apart by Pinnacle Consultants Pour Indoor air Quality because
- 42:53Speaker 2: a variety of health issues allergies, respiratory problems and more.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Pinnacle offer specialized indoor air quality services for residential, commercial
- 43:00Speaker 2: and industrial type settings. Visipinnacle court dot net. Because what
- 43:03Speaker 2: you don't know can't hurt you. And I will mention
- 43:05Speaker 2: too that this is what I understand. I was talking
- 43:08Speaker 2: to some folks in Marshall a little bit earlier this morning.
- 43:10Speaker 2: So they're going to do the ceremony today, players I
- 43:13Speaker 2: guess are going to be there, but then they got
- 43:14Speaker 2: to hop a plane for Georgia, right.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Yeah, it is straight from the In fact, they're taking
- 43:20Speaker 3: the buses, taking the team and parking the buses right
- 43:23Speaker 3: outside the student center, so that as soon as the
- 43:27Speaker 3: ceremony ends, they can jump on the bus head to
- 43:30Speaker 3: the Huntington Tri State Airport. And yeah, there's a football
- 43:33Speaker 3: game at two o'clock tomorrow afternoon, Marshall at Georgia State.
- 43:36Speaker 3: That in and of itself carries a lot of importance.
- 43:40Speaker 3: It's not yet do or die for the Thundering Herd,
- 43:43Speaker 3: but this team really really wants to extend the season.
- 43:48Speaker 10: To a bowl game.
- 43:50Speaker 3: And at four and five right now, you're down to
- 43:51Speaker 3: three games. You have to win two of them to
- 43:53Speaker 3: get the bowl eligibility.
- 43:55Speaker 2: All right, Hey, Steve, I appreciate you jumping in here
- 43:57Speaker 2: and talking about the memorial service, and I believe it
- 44:00Speaker 2: is live streamed, so if people can't make it to Huntington,
- 44:03Speaker 2: they can they can check it out on the live stream. Guys,
- 44:06Speaker 2: have a good broadcast tomorrow. We'll talk soon, buddy. Thanks
- 44:08Speaker 2: a lot.
- 44:09Speaker 1: Thanks, They've have a good one you as well.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Steve Cotton, the voice of the Marrish University Thundering Herd.
- 44:13Speaker 2: And I can tell you as somebody who's attended a
- 44:15Speaker 2: few of those Fountain ceremonies, I mean it's very, very
- 44:19Speaker 2: touching and I do think it's interesting. And we talked
- 44:23Speaker 2: about that with the Dave Wilson yesterday who wrote a
- 44:26Speaker 2: commentary about it. He's a son of Marshall as well.
- 44:28Speaker 2: And it seemed like that the remembrance there for a
- 44:33Speaker 2: few years had started to kind of wane a little
- 44:36Speaker 2: bit for one reason or another. I was a student there.
- 44:39Speaker 2: I hit my first year. There would have been nineteen
- 44:41Speaker 2: ninety on campus, and it didn't I'm not to say
- 44:43Speaker 2: it didn't seem like it was a big deal, but
- 44:45Speaker 2: it seems like it's gotten bigger over the years. And
- 44:48Speaker 2: I think that's a good thing because so often with commemorations,
- 44:50Speaker 2: I mean, you think about historical things that have happened,
- 44:53Speaker 2: and don't think I'm not putting this on the same
- 44:55Speaker 2: level as a nine to eleven or a Pearl Harbor.
- 44:58Speaker 2: I'm just saying things in live that are historical in nature.
- 45:02Speaker 2: With generations, it starts to fade a little bit. That's
- 45:04Speaker 2: just natural. But I think with this whole thing that
- 45:08Speaker 2: they do at Marshall, with the Fountain ceremony and bringing
- 45:11Speaker 2: back family members and you know of people that were
- 45:14Speaker 2: killed and others, that it's it's just gotten bigger. It's
- 45:18Speaker 2: gotten bigger every year. It is a nine to fifty
