- 0:00I am so excited. I love Easter morning. I love
- 0:06Resurrection Sunday. It is what we are all about,
- 0:11right? It is what we are all about. And about
- 0:15a month ago, I preached a sermon on considering
- 0:19Him. Do you remember that? When we were talking
- 0:22about running our race, out of Hebrews 12, what
- 0:25did it say? To run our race well, we must consider
- 0:29him, right? And so I want to revisit for a moment
- 0:34that verse, because as we were considering him,
- 0:38we were considering him and his sacrifice of
- 0:41the cross. But I want for a moment to look at
- 0:45Hebrews 12, 2 again, and 3. And at the end of
- 0:50verse 2, it says he endured the cross, he scorned
- 0:56the shame, and he sat down at the right hand
- 1:00of God. He sat down at the right hand of God.
- 1:08So it then goes on to verse 3. Consider him who
- 1:12endured opposition. And so this morning, I want
- 1:17us to take a moment to consider him, the one
- 1:22that is right now seated at the right hand of
- 1:26the Father. In Matthew 27, we have the account
- 1:32of the resurrection. Let's read it. So if you
- 1:38have your Bible, take it out. We're going to
- 1:40start at the end of 27 and go into chapter 28.
- 1:45Starting in verse 65, it says, Take a guard,
- 1:51Pilate said. Go, make the tomb. as secure as
- 1:58you know how. They are wanting this sealed. They
- 2:05didn't want anybody trying to steal the body.
- 2:09They wanted this to be a sealed tomb. So set
- 2:15a guard and secure it. So they went and made
- 2:19the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone
- 2:22and posting the guard. After the Sabbath at dawn
- 2:27on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene
- 2:31and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
- 2:36There was a violent earthquake for an angel of
- 2:39the Lord came down from heaven and going to the
- 2:43tomb, rolled back the stone. And I love this.
- 2:48He sat on it. This is what I think about this
- 2:54stone. His appearance was like lightning and
- 2:59his clothes were white as snow. The guards were
- 3:04so afraid of him that they shook and became like
- 3:09dead men. The angel said to the women, do not
- 3:14be afraid for I know that you are looking for
- 3:18Jesus who was crucified. He is not here. Can
- 3:27you imagine? They've come looking for the body
- 3:30of Jesus. And the angel says, he is not here.
- 3:36He has risen just as he said. Come and see the
- 3:45place where he lay. Come check it out for yourself.
- 3:49See where he was lay. He's not there. And so
- 3:55just as we considered him a month ago upon the
- 3:58cross, today we're just going to walk quickly
- 4:01through three considerations from this passage.
- 4:07We're going to move through the first two fairly
- 4:09quickly because I want to focus on the third.
- 4:12But our first consideration of the risen Jesus
- 4:15comes out of verse 2. There was a violent earthquake
- 4:22for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven
- 4:25and going to the tomb, rolled back the stone
- 4:28and sat on it. Our first consideration today
- 4:34brings hope to us. Because how many of us have
- 4:38ever felt like in our life that certain situations
- 4:43or certain relationships are just sealed up good?
- 4:49There's no breakthrough in sight. There's no
- 4:52resurrection in sight. That thing is dead and
- 4:58sealed up in a tomb. Anybody ever felt like that
- 5:02in your life? Some of you today maybe are currently
- 5:07feeling that way. God, this situation seems like
- 5:12it will never ever change. It seems dead. It
- 5:16seems sealed up shut. But I have good news for
- 5:21you today. I have good news for your situation
- 5:27today. Heaven can shake things up a bit. When
- 5:35God says it's time to move the stone, I'm sorry,
- 5:43there's no guard that can stop that. There's
- 5:47no death that can stop that. It matters not what
- 5:52it appears in the natural. When heaven says it
- 5:56is time, the earth begins to shake. Those things
- 6:00in your life begin to shake. And nothing can
- 6:04withstand when God says it's time. It's time.
- 6:09It's time that those things, those places, those
- 6:12relationships be unsealed. It's time for what
- 6:15has been blockaged to be rolled away. It is time
- 6:19for dead things to come alive again. That's what
- 6:24happens when God says it's time. God has a way
- 6:30of shaking things up and opening things up. And
- 6:35man can't stop that. Man can, the enemy can come
- 6:41against you strong. He can try, he can try. But
- 6:47we know that he cannot prevail against God. Amen?
- 6:51And so take hope today and consider his resurrection.
- 6:57Consider that it wasn't just that he was close
- 7:01to death, it's that he had already died. It's
- 7:05that he had already been sealed up in a tomb.
- 7:08And in the natural, we would say, well, that's
- 7:11done and over. It's time. We're going to be like
- 7:13the disciples and we're going to go back to our
- 7:15old lifestyle and we're going to start fishing
- 7:17again. What appears in the natural isn't always
- 7:25the truth. And we got to begin to ask heaven
- 7:30for truth over our situation. Over that thing
- 7:35that feels sealed up. We got to begin to ask
- 7:39God for his truth. Right? And so we consider
- 7:45the shaking of heaven and its ability to unseal
- 7:51things. So take hope today. Our second consideration.
- 7:59This is so good and this should Build such trust
- 8:05in you in verse 6. He is not here. He has risen.
- 8:13Catch this phrase, just as he said. Just as he
- 8:19said. Jesus had already spoken when he was walking
- 8:25the earth of his death and resurrection. And
- 8:32here we see the fulfillment of what he said.
- 8:38Jesus is true to his word. And some of you have
- 8:46had even, not even recently, but I would say
- 8:505, 10, 15, 20 years ago, Jesus say something
- 8:55to you. And you haven't seen it come to pass
- 8:59yet. But can I say to you today that when Jesus
- 9:05says something, when he says something, you can
- 9:15take that as done. You can take that as done.
- 9:23Just as he said. And so, whatever your... relationship
- 9:31issues whatever your struggles that you're believing
- 9:35for can I just say this to you whatever Jesus
- 9:40has said about it is what you should say about
- 9:43it whatever he has said about your marriage and
- 9:49the promise you've received maybe that's what
- 9:52you should say over your marriage whatever God
- 9:55has said over your children Maybe you should
- 9:59quit talking about how much trouble they're causing
- 10:02you right now and begin to talk about what Jesus
- 10:05has said about your children. Maybe it's your
- 10:09job. You should ask Jesus, Jesus, what do you
- 10:13say about this job? And maybe you should start
- 10:17saying that. And so today, when we consider the
- 10:22resurrection, we do it. Because just as he said,
- 10:28so he says over you. And so this leads us to
- 10:37the heart of this, consideration number three.
- 10:42I've been preaching myself happy for a couple
- 10:45of weeks over consideration number three. He
- 10:51is risen. He is risen. In Hebrews 12, what did
- 11:04we just read? He sat down at the right hand of
- 11:10the throne of God. Consider him. The risen Jesus
- 11:16is not a meek Jesus that shed his glory to walk
- 11:24the earth. Darren read it a few moments ago,
- 11:28didn't he? He made himself of no reputation to
- 11:31walk this earth. Jesus is not that right now.
- 11:39Isaiah 53 says that there was no beauty about
- 11:43him. There was nothing that would attract you
- 11:47to Jesus. Can I say today, he is risen and that
- 11:54is not who he is today at the right hand of God.
- 12:01And so for a few moments, I want us to consider
- 12:06him the one seated at the right hand of God.
- 12:11In Revelation chapter 1, starting in verse 10.
- 12:18On the Lord's day, there's something that happens
- 12:22about on the Lord's day, right? Something that
- 12:25happens. That's why church is so good. I was
- 12:31in the spirit, John said, and I heard behind
- 12:35me a loud voice like a trumpet, which said, write
- 12:42on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven
- 12:47churches. Listen, the disciples hadn't seen the
- 12:52risen Jesus. A few of them had seen Jesus when
- 12:58he appeared at his transfiguration with Moses
- 13:03and Elijah. So they'd had a taste of it. But
- 13:06they had not seen Jesus risen and seated at the
- 13:09right hand. And so Jesus is wanting now to reveal
- 13:14himself to the church. saying, you knew me as
- 13:19this meek, unappealing man, but I want you to
- 13:24know me now as the risen one. Here is what I
- 13:28look like. So send it out to the churches. I
- 13:34turned around in verse 12 to see the voice that
- 13:37was speaking to me. And when I turned, I saw
- 13:41seven golden lampstands, and among the lampstands
- 13:45was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe
- 13:52reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash
- 13:55around his chest. The hair on his head was white
- 14:00like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were
- 14:05like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze
- 14:11glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like
- 14:15the sound of rushing waters. In his right hand
- 14:20he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth
- 14:24was a sharp double -edged sword. His face was
- 14:29like the sun shining in all its brilliance. This
- 14:34is the risen Savior. This is the one whom we
- 14:40now consider at the right hand of the Father.
- 14:47And so let's just take for a moment time to consider
- 14:51him. He's dressed in a robe to his feet with
- 14:59a golden sash that speaks of royalty. and priestliness.
- 15:10His hair was white as wool, as snow, as seen
- 15:16as the Ancient of Days. His eyes were blazing
- 15:25fire, filled with divine knowledge and insight,
- 15:30piercing the hearts of man. The risen Savior
- 15:36looks at you. There's no hiding anything. We
- 15:40may think we're hiding, but he sees. He sees.
- 15:48His feet like bronze in a furnace. Strong and
- 15:54steadfast, able to subdue his enemy and your
- 15:58enemy. His voice. was like the sound of rushing
- 16:05waters full of divine authority. Just as he said,
- 16:12when he speaks, authority is released. He held
- 16:20the seven stars, which were the ministers of
- 16:22the seven churches he was writing to. Isn't that
- 16:25good to know, though? He is able to hold you.
- 16:31This risen Savior is able to hold you. Out of
- 16:37his mouth, a two -edged sword that wounds and
- 16:42heals. And his face like the shining sun. This
- 16:50is the radiance of Jesus that will one day light
- 16:53the new creation. He's the source of the light
- 17:01of the new creation. This is our risen Savior
- 17:06today. This is the one that even now is looking
- 17:11down upon us from heaven. This is the one even
- 17:14now that lives within you. Can you imagine? This
- 17:20risen one lives within you. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
- 17:29And so I think John's response is interesting
- 17:33because John's response to this revelation is
- 17:37the same as the guards at the tomb. And it says
- 17:41that John, in verse 17, when he saw him, he fell
- 17:47at his feet as though dead. I mean, can you imagine
- 17:52if we were able to see Jesus? This is the Jesus
- 17:56that Gary can see right now. Here's Jesus' then
- 18:07response to John falling at his feet as though
- 18:10dead. Jesus places his right hand on him and
- 18:16says, do not be afraid, John. Do not be afraid.
- 18:24I am the first and the last. I am the living
- 18:29one. I was dead and now look. I am alive forever
- 18:35and ever and ever and ever. I am alive and I
- 18:42hold the keys of death and Hades. Consider him
- 18:47today. Consider him today. This is not the meek
- 18:55and mild Jesus we saw on earth. He's got blazing
- 19:01eyes. He's got a sword coming out of his mouth.
- 19:04He was the first and the last. He was dead and
- 19:07he's alive. Consider him. You say, okay, I consider
- 19:15that. But what does that mean now for my life?
- 19:23I can't imagine considering this Jesus and it
- 19:27not affecting my life. When Jesus was walking
- 19:35on earth, when he had chosen to have no reputation,
- 19:41when he had chosen to put off all of his rights
- 19:45in heaven and glory and became man, and he walked
- 19:50this earth, What he was doing was teaching us
- 19:54what life on this earth looks like. We walk in
- 20:02meekness and humility. That's what the word calls
- 20:06us to. We walk in forgiveness and love of our
- 20:13betrayers, even as Jesus did his betrayer. We
- 20:20walk. preferring one another. We walk in the
- 20:27gentleness that Darren preached about last week.
- 20:31He's a gentle God, even in all of his glory.
- 20:37We walk allowing God to be our defender. And
- 20:45so even as we live, as Jesus lived on this earth,
- 20:53We are able to live it knowing this truth, okay?
- 20:56Because I think this was the key. Jesus was able
- 21:00to do it knowing his truth. We are able to walk
- 21:03in that same likeness of Jesus because we know
- 21:08this, according to Ephesians 2, verse 6. God
- 21:17raised us up with Christ. and seated us with
- 21:25him in the heavenly realms within Christ Jesus.
- 21:34In order that in the coming ages he might show
- 21:38the incomparable riches of his grace expressed
- 21:42in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. Listen,
- 21:50we are able to walk the life that Jesus walked
- 21:53in meekness, in humility, in forgiving, in living
- 21:57unoffended, in preferring one another, in that
- 22:01deep humility. Why are we able to do that? Because
- 22:06we know who we are. We know where we're seated.
- 22:11And just as Jesus is currently seated with the
- 22:16Father, God has raised you and I up to be seated
- 22:20even now with him in those heavenly places. I
- 22:24can walk in humility because I know where I am
- 22:28seated. And I don't need to tell you about it.
- 22:31I don't need to tell you how great I am. No,
- 22:35because my greatness would only come because
- 22:38of Jesus anyway. So there's nothing in me. It
- 22:43is all this glorious Savior that lives in me
- 22:48and that I am allowed to be seated with. And
- 22:53so I can walk in humility. I can walk forgiving
- 22:56because I saw Jesus do it. And I know where I'm
- 23:02seated with him even now. It brings freedom.
- 23:05It allows us to walk in freedom. I don't have
- 23:10to prove anything. I'm already seated with Christ
- 23:13in the heavenly places. I don't have to earn
- 23:16anything. Because of the cross, I'm seated in
- 23:20heavenly places. It is by his grace. It is by
- 23:25his grace that we are seated with Christ in heavenly
- 23:31places. One day we will see the fullness of that
- 23:36face to face. Today we see through the glass
- 23:42darkly, right? We see with a veil. There will
- 23:47come a day when that veil will no longer be there.
- 23:50We will see face to face. We will see in all
- 23:55the fullness, in all of the glory. And until
- 24:00that day, as long as we tread this earth, we
- 24:05tread it as Jesus, exalted, glorious one walked
- 24:11it. Today, we're considering who the risen Christ
- 24:19is. The one with the blazing eyes and the sword
- 24:23coming from his mouth, who at his own accusation
- 24:30said not a word. He didn't say a word, did he?
- 24:37In fact, Isaiah 53 says that. He came as a lamb
- 24:42to the slaughter and he didn't utter a word.
- 24:50Today, as the risen one, his word is like rushing
- 24:58water. There is nothing quiet about his words
- 25:04today. Today his voice can be sounding throughout.
- 25:09When he sounds his voice, things begin to shake.
- 25:14He is quiet no longer. This is your Jesus. You
- 25:25may not understand everything about him. or what
- 25:29this thing we call Christianity is all about.
- 25:33But all you really need to know is that Jesus
- 25:38put all of that gloriousness aside in heaven,
- 25:44came down to a cross to take our punishment that
- 25:49we deserved for our sin, to die a horrible, horrible
- 25:56death. And then days later to overcome that death.
- 26:03And the good news is that this same Jesus wants
- 26:08a relationship with you. He wants a relationship
- 26:12with me. He wanted himself made known. He wants
- 26:21us to choose him. To choose to answer his call.
- 26:41So the choice is ours, isn't it, though? He doesn't
- 26:46force any of us. He gives us all free will to
- 26:52make the choice. But he's calling to us, come.
- 26:58Come to me. I'm just waiting. I'm just waiting
- 27:02for you. And so the choice is ours. The choice
- 27:10is ours if we're going to live with a sense of
- 27:13being defeated in life when it gets difficult.
- 27:18Or we can remember the one who lives. Things
- 27:23got a little difficult for Jesus, didn't they?
- 27:29When we stopped, this is why I love Holy Week,
- 27:32because we stopped to consider the beating that
- 27:35he took, the thorns that went in. In fact, they
- 27:39said the beating was so strong, it probably,
- 27:41and so long, his spine would actually be exposed.
- 27:48For like 10 hours, he was mocked. Jesus knows
- 27:53what it is to have a difficult life. The good
- 28:01news is, though, is that no matter how difficult,
- 28:05and I think that the martyred church has the
- 28:07sense that we have not experienced before, because
- 28:10even in their own pain and suffering and martyrdom,
- 28:15They experience the risen Savior in a way that
- 28:18we haven't experienced. They have walked in a
- 28:22very real way the journey that Jesus walked.
- 28:28And they do it with a joy that is unexplainable.
- 28:31Why? Because they are now, they're walking the
- 28:35path of the risen Savior. They're walking, they
- 28:38know what this is that Jesus has walked. The
- 28:42pain and the suffering. And on the other side
- 28:46of it, the glory of having done it with the risen
- 28:49Savior. And so you, in your difficulties, listen,
- 28:54the risen Savior wants to come alongside. of
- 28:57you, in your difficult, hard places, in your
- 29:01woundedness, in your betrayal, and you're feeling
- 29:04as though you're shut up and dead and sealed
- 29:07up. Jesus, the risen Savior, knows what that
- 29:11is, and he's shown us, hey, there's another side
- 29:15to this. There's the resurrected side. You're
- 29:19going to make it to the resurrected side. So
- 29:22hang on. Don't give up. Don't give up. Keep choosing.
- 29:26Keep choosing. Keep choosing every day. Yes to
- 29:31Jesus. Yes to the risen Savior. The choice is
- 29:35ours. The truth is that we are his bride. And
- 29:39I know that doesn't make a lot of sense. But
- 29:42he is the bridegroom. We are the bride. And what
- 29:47Jesus desires is a people that reflect some of
- 29:52that fire in his eyes. He desires a people who
- 29:56speak the words that he speaks. He desires a
- 30:00people that carry the wisdom of the ancient of
- 30:03days. He desires a people that knows whatever's
- 30:07going on in this earth. We are a people in the
- 30:11spirit realm who are seated with Jesus. Hallelujah.
- 30:19And so today, the worship team is going to come,
- 30:24and I wanted to leave some space here for us
- 30:28to respond. Because for some of you, you've never
- 30:32maybe heard this call to become that follower
- 30:37of Christ, to say, I hear him calling to me,
- 30:41saying, I want to do this life with you. I want
- 30:45you to receive and accept the sacrifice that
- 30:49I made on your behalf. And I want to raise you
- 30:53up to be seated with me. Some of you, you've
- 30:57never made that choice. And today is the day
- 31:00to answer the call, to say yes to the risen one.
- 31:06And some of you in this room today, you're in
- 31:10consideration number one. You need breakthrough.
- 31:13You need the sealed tombs of your situations
- 31:17to be opened. And you need resurrection power
- 31:20to come forth in those places. He wants to do
- 31:27that for you today. Some of you need to just
- 31:33hear what he's saying. In the most difficult
- 31:39places of our life, there is one thing in every
- 31:46situation that has been my guarantee. And in
- 31:51some of those situations, I've seen the other
- 31:54side. Some of them I'm still walking through
- 31:57and I haven't seen the other side. And in every
- 32:00one of them, here's my guarantee. I have heard
- 32:04what Jesus has spoken. over it. And it has produced
- 32:09faith that makes me immovable. And it's not how
- 32:16great I am walking through it. The immovableness
- 32:20comes because I have heard what Jesus has said.
- 32:25And when you hear the voice of Jesus, you become
- 32:32immovable, just as he said. Some of you need
- 32:36to hear his voice today. You've been feeling
- 32:41like you've been tossed and turned. And I'll
- 32:44tell you what will solve that problem is to hear
- 32:48what Jesus is saying over you. To hear his word.
- 32:54And so in a moment, as the team leads us in worship,
- 32:58our elders are going to come. And they're going
- 33:02to pray with you. That happens when we pray with
- 33:07one another. There's an agreement that comes
- 33:10as we pray with one another. And today we want
- 33:15you to have that opportunity. And so if you need
- 33:20to hear a word from God, if you need breakthrough
- 33:23to happen, if you need God to shake things up,
- 33:27we want to pray with you today. And if you need
- 33:33to become a Christ follower for the first time
- 33:37today, our elders would love to pray with you
- 33:41that you might receive the great gift of salvation
- 33:45that is the working of the cross and the resurrection
- 33:48of Christ. Allowing you, just as Gary did so
- 33:55many years ago. Man, does anybody know how long
- 33:59Gary was a follower of Christ? It had to have
- 34:03been like 50 years, I think. 47? 47 years he
- 34:09followed Jesus. I want that kind of legacy. And
- 34:20for some of you, this will be day one of your...
- 34:23Gary had a day one. And some of you today need
- 34:28a day one. Maybe... You've been kind of halfway
- 34:33deciding. Today, the risen one is calling. Man,
- 34:37get all in with him. This earth is so fleeting.
- 34:42This time is so fleeting. The resurrected one
- 34:46is waiting for us. He's preparing heaven for
- 34:51us, for you. This 70, 80, 90 years on earth is
- 34:57like this. Come on, we got to get all in. Our
- 35:01Savior's awaiting us. Our Savior's preparing
- 35:04a place for us. Our Savior's saying, come on,
- 35:08come on. I know what it's like. I've walked that.
- 35:10I've been there. I've been tempted by that. Come
- 35:14on, I'm waiting for you. I've got good things
- 35:16I'm planning for you. Let's get all in. Let's
- 35:20get all in. And so will you stand with me this
- 35:23morning? And I'm going to ask if our elders would
- 35:25just kind of come and make their way across the
- 35:28front. And as the team leads us in a moment of
- 35:32worship, some of you, I'm going to be preaching
- 35:36a sermon soon on what is found in the throne
- 35:39room of God, in the presence of God. But one
- 35:42of the things found there is bravery, is courage.
- 35:46And some of you need to step out in courage.
- 35:50and get to one of the elders can we kind of move
- 35:54around some of you are all crowded down there
- 35:56come on over here there we go but you may take
- 36:01a courageous moment of stepping out but i guarantee
- 36:04you the risen savior will meet you as you take
- 36:09that first step and so father right now we thank
- 36:13you that in your great plan and purpose you sent
- 36:19your son to this earth. You sent your son to
- 36:23take on the death and punishment that our own
- 36:26sin deserved. And then you resurrected him and
- 36:32you caused him to be seated next to you even
- 36:35now. And so Jesus, we turn our gaze, our consideration
- 36:40upon you, the risen Something that you know not
- 36:54of, that you can't even imagine for your life.
- 36:57So come on, son. Come on, daughter. Run to me.
- 37:01Run to me. I'm going to help you. I'm going to
- 37:05help you. I'm going to help you. And so, Father,
- 37:08I ask that even now your Holy Spirit would begin
- 37:12to instill courage and bravery for people to
- 37:16begin to step out and make that step toward the
- 37:20resurrected Savior. Thank you, Lord. Thank you,
- 37:24Lord. All right, the team's going to begin to
- 37:27lead. And as we begin to sing and begin to worship,
- 37:31I want to encourage you to find your way down
- 37:34here to some of the elders to begin to pray for
- 37:37you. Do not leave. Do not leave like you came
- 37:42in. The wonderful resurrected Savior. His eyes
- 37:48are upon you and he's just longing for you to
- 37:52move toward him. His heart's longing for you.
- 37:57And so don't leave and not take that step toward
- 38:00him. He's so good. He's so kind and so loving.
- 38:05Thank you, Lord. Let's just begin to worship.
- 38:08If you're not coming forward, let's just begin
- 38:11to worship here. Let's just begin to worship
- 38:13this risen one that is seated at the right hand
- 38:17of the Father. Let's begin to lift up that heart
- 38:20of worship to him. Thank you, Lord.
