- speaker-0: Hello everybody and welcome to another episode of the pork roll egg and cheese podcast. My name is Seamus. And this episode is all about Star Wars. Yeah, all been waiting for. We have two guests with us today. First to my left. Everybody knows him. He's Jason from the exciting and new podcast. Hello. And via telephone or satellite or whatever they call that shit. speaker-1: I am Darth Herb. Yeah. speaker-0: Our buddy Troy and me and Troy where he's calling it for a big about right? Yeah, he's calling him from the Degg about system speaker-1: Slow down guys. speaker-0: Not too much. ⁓ Real quick, before we get started, I just want to give a quick shout out to all the participants in the police unity tour. What that is is a bunch of cops get on bikes and they I think it's somewhere in Jersey, Newark or somewhere like that. And it's all motorcycles. Now it's pedal by pedal bikes and pedal all the way down to Washington, D.C. ⁓ There's thousands of cops to bring awareness two police officers, ⁓ a friend of mine. somebody I worked with for a while. Her first name is Jasmine. She left us and became a police officer in Riverside. I believe she's in the Lanko now. Her team, the Del River Park team completed it. And I just want to give those guys a shout out. Congratulations. Next year, what we're going to do is when I talked to her, it was kind of too late. They sell t shirts and all that So we're going to help them out and try to raise some money. you going to write? you going to write in it next time? No, no, no. I don't think retired guys can. And I was going to do it one year, but then I realized Yeah, I'm too fat for that. I mean, that's a long ride. But I mean, how many days do that overnight? It's a three day thing. It's I think they leave Monday morning and then they just got there, I believe. What's today? Wednesday? Yeah, they got there today. So then they do like a big thing and everybody comes party and stuff. So, yeah, it's a really good thing. I just wanted to give them a shout out. Nice. All right. So what we're going to do today is we're going to talk about the original episodes that came out and, know, the late seventies, early eighties. We're not going to talk about anything else. We're to talk about now my world. That's episode. You the first episodes in your world. It's episode four, five and six. So we're going to start with Star Wars. a new hope. Go ahead. Take it. called a new hope until ⁓ Empire came out. It was just Star Wars, ⁓ speaker-1: I'm out. Yeah. Yeah, actually yeah, you're right cuz you gotta make like a general idea and stuff and he was like shit this actually is taking off I gotta make some more speaker-0: Nobody thought it going to. Yeah. We all know where Herbie saw this movie. If you're a less, if you're one of the three listeners out there, we all know where Herbie saw this movie. Jay, where'd you see Star Wars? The original Star Wars. I saw it in the theater. I was lucky enough. My sister was born in 77, but she was having some issues with her ears. She was getting sick a lot. So they were going to put tubes in her ears. And my mom said, why don't you take Jason somewhere with my to my dad? And my dad was like, I don't know what he want to do. We went to the movies. It wasn't when it first came out of me because it's been out. It was out for over a year in the theater. So it was like later on that year in seventy seven. So probably like September or something like that. We went and ⁓ I saw every movie after that in the theater as well. So I've seen every Star Wars, even this ⁓ one, two, three in the seven, eight, nines and solos and all that stuff. But everyone in the theater has been really cool. You've hooked ever since. Ever since. Yeah. I mean, seeing that on the screen when you first see Vader walk through that. Yeah. speaker-1: about shit my speaker-0: Yeah, and i'm like only two and a half years old almost three, you know, like i think everybody remembers that moment the first time you see vader speaker-1: That's just like so iconic to me because like as a little kid for me because that was the first movie I ever saw too So that scream was just like bigger than life. So just like that whole noise of like, you know this Star Destroyer speaker-0: You're not a laser and everything, you know, yeah every stormtrooper is missing speaker-1: God, yeah, it's somehow can hit a golden droid or a little little tin can thing. It's great. They shot all the guys out, which was cool. You know, they to keep the thing going on. speaker-0: What about you Troy? Where'd you see for the first time? speaker-1: Yeah, so I'm a little too young to have seen it in theater. So I probably either saw it on DHS or, you know, cable HBO at home. Yeah. But I did wind up going later in the late 90s to see the rereleases. speaker-0: Go fuck yourself. with the special editions. speaker-1: Yeah, too disappointed with the little additions here. speaker-0: Yeah, I think a lot of people were. I hate that scene where he steps on Jabba's tail. ⁓ speaker-1: You know, it's like it's like stupid, but it's it's it added. I was just hungry for more. ⁓ yeah. Scenes and stuff, because even back in the day, like they didn't have like deleted scenes, you know. So was even if like it was like a storm, you're just saying an extra line or something like that. ⁓ speaker-0: They had like a do back in the back or something like that. know, yeah, that that kind of stuff was cool. But like, just to see when he steps on the tail just felt too cartoony. You know what I mean? I was just like, what are you doing? Well, Troy actually found and he put it on. I watched I watched the new original. The original cuts where there's no it's the way I remember it. Yeah, like that's what's up. Let me tell you, it was great. Would you say, speaker-1: I said, yeah, took a little searching, but finally I found them. mean, how those aren't readily available is insane to me. speaker-0: Well, I appreciate it. They haven't been available regularly since 97 when that special edition first came out. I don't know if they put them in a vault or something like that or whatnot. Well, they were saying that for the 50th anniversary next year, they're going to rerelease it, unedited like the way it came out in 77. So. speaker-1: like they tried to bury it. And like that's definitely a movie that you go see in the movie theater ⁓ speaker-0: It's just special. Just hearing the special effects and everything, sound in the theater is great. So apparently this movie was supposed to flop. Yeah, that's what everybody thought. And this global phenomenon. ⁓ speaker-1: There was nothing else like, there was no other movie like it back in the day. speaker-0: Well, Lucas thought it was going to flop, too, because he went to ⁓ Hawaii with his buddy, Steven Spielberg, and they were hanging out down there when they found out that it was doing great. And he said that's actually where they came up for the idea. Indiana Jones. That is correct. Yeah, that's where they started talking about that. And so they're like, ⁓ well, since that's since when I won't be doing anymore Star Wars, let's get right into this. Andy Jones. But yeah, yeah, that going on at same time. So but yeah, two big things. Yeah, you could have a special episode about Indy, you know what mean? I love that, dude. speaker-1: huge things. is there's a friend of mine from work, Manny, she actually got to see Star Wars at the Chinese theater because she was originally from LA. I was like, she told me that the other day about shit. speaker-0: seeing pictures of that theater with the line in front of that. That was crazy. That would be really cool. Yeah. Yeah. All right. The first episode besides Vader. I mean, everybody. The first one was just kind of basic, not basic characters, but you had Vader solo ⁓ Kenobi. He's like the core group. Everything else was just stormtroopers Yeah. I mean, we all everybody loves Vader. My favorite. also had my favorite character. speaker-1: It's just like something to be able to argue. C3PO speaker-0: Oh, what's his name? The old dude. Grandma Tarkin. Yeah. He's so good in it. And they brought him back in the Mandalorian when they did that. Yeah, he looked really cool because he had been dead for years. They did CGI of him and the Mandalorian. He amazing. Yeah, because they did that for Luke because Luke comes back in that episode as well. Spoiler alert. If you haven't watched the Mandalorian, I don't see that now. Joy, I'm assuming that Vader was your favorite character. speaker-1: Yeah. Fuck it. No, he's been, yeah. Yeah. Yes, definitely Darth Vader. mean. speaker-0: Even after all the other movies came out? speaker-1: Yeah. I mean, he's such a badass character. Like who doesn't want to be that guy? He's iconic. speaker-0: Well, you wanted to be Han Solo, right? Oh, yeah. How was just in for the money and the six? That's how it was about. He's the only dude that can walk up into that bar. What was the name of that most? Honestly, Yeah. Nobody walked up. was like, Hey, my buddy doesn't like you. He had his own table. Remember, sit on the table. Yeah, bro. Straight pimp. speaker-1: ⁓ yeah. the size we can. Well if you got a Wookie like riding shotgun at your homeboy there's not really a lot of people want to go up there and start talking shit and getting Wookie smacked by Chewbacca. speaker-0: Yeah, I mean, a seven foot Wookie is in there. speaker-2: Brrrr speaker-1: you speaker-0: ⁓ So what was the premise of the first one? It starts with Vader ⁓ jumping on ship. speaker-1: That's basically just... Yeah, going after the plants of the death story because the rebel lines wind up stealing the plans. speaker-0: Yeah, and he was looking for him and he ended up being RTD2 and they it was a counselor ship But if that was a counselor ship, then where's the ambassador? speaker-1: Compared to 10, it's kind of long to find those plans to pick back. Oh, Oh, that's that's definitely like another movie that's just so frickin quotable, speaker-0: Got that in stereo. ⁓ man, can quit the whole thing. I didn't even need to watch any of the movies before we had this, but I mean, I did watch A New Hope again just the other day because the special edition, non-special edition was out there. So I watched that. But yeah, Andy watched Return of the Jedi. said the one that Troy put out there and that was great too. said, seeing that, speaker-1: There's just so much stuff like in there, because like around that time for me as a kid, it was just like you had robots, you had spaceships, you had like dudes that looked like night. It was just like there was so much stuff. I said, like, yeah, it was it was an amalgamation of everything I watched on TV. But it was like. speaker-0: users. So much more because you went from watching cartoons or whatever, you know what mean? And you're seeing that and you're like, this is this is adult. You're like, what's this? This is the future. You know what I mean? Yeah. Well, not only that, but it was just so high tech and like it still holds up to this day. Like when you like even the stuff that Troy just put up for us, when you watch that, you're just like, holy shit, man. How did they do that in 1977? Because it's like all models and stick models. Yeah, that's it. And it's pretty wild. And like you said, it was just a. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: a giant like we grew up on lost in space. 3D model. That's all it was basically. they just the toys that we had basically thrown it and strings on there and everything. Somehow it was a much cooler version of all that shift from the 50s and the 60s. ⁓ somehow it was in the past, but it was in the future. Yeah. speaker-1: It's also the one thing I liked about it too, because like when they filmed Tatooine, it's in Tunisia and it just like that. That's just like real life. Yeah. Area. Yeah. Yeah. Just it made it sound like it made that world lifelike and even like the scenes like it was. Yeah, it was just like, you know, like these great sets and great locations that they filmed and stuff. And it's just like you had people were like, you know, Greedo was like, do that. He goes, ⁓ you know, all these other different languages and Jawas and stuff, because there was so. speaker-0: And all that stuff, CGI. He doesn't like you. Yeah, don't like you either. So you said I got the death sentence on 10. speaker-1: We don't like you either. Be careful, you'll be dead! speaker-0: But like you said, like when they were in a was that is that the first one where? Yeah, it's the first one because they find our team like that big rolling tank thing that the job get out of. Yeah. Like the government and wherever the hell they were at. Yeah. They had to go check it out. The was going on. speaker-1: Americans are making goddamn sand crawlers and stuff. speaker-0: I when they they into the price of what is that? an r2d2. Well, what? speaker-1: It's just everything looks so goddamn real. It's almost like the USA's got it man You just start seeing a bunch of stormtroopers around like that's what their troops look like speaker-0: And I know we talked about this before, but I think Hollywood loses a little bit of something because they don't do that anymore because there is no more Hollywood sets. Yeah. Like TV shows have set. mean, you got CGI does everything. Yeah. Most movies now it's just all CGI. speaker-1: Yeah, like even back in the day with like Ben Hur and stuff like that. It was just like that's that's another thing where I grew up watching movies like that. like just the amount of people and just like this the real live sets and everything. It just it really put you in there and it was real, you know. speaker-0: And you got people like Rick Baker and stuff making those masks and everything. yeah. Different like different like monsters and stuff like that. And just think about that from 80s movies to like 80s horror movies. Tom Savini and stuff like that. Just being an actor back then, because you had to sit in a makeup chair for like sometimes four to like eight hours. Yeah. All that shit done to do six hours worth of work and then takes two hours to get that shit off. Then you got to do it all over again. And they were getting in the chair like five and four or five in the morning just to get ready. speaker-1: You know, it's been discussed. speaker-0: Take so long, easy. Well, now that we talked about the big tank thing in Tunisia, Troy, what was your favorite vehicle from the first part, the first one speaker-1: from four. ⁓ Yeah, would definitely, Millennium Fountain, I think would definitely be. Yeah. Yeah. Cause that's another thing that looked like it was lived in. can actually like hang out in that damn thing. Close second, think it was, no, I don't think it was in the first one, but the X-wing would be my second. ⁓ yeah. It's iconic. speaker-0: Yeah, a new hope. Yeah, that was my shit. Falcon that was a ship that made the Kessel run in less than 12 parts. Yeah It just reminds me like I said, this is why I love time solo because he was such a cool dude Yeah, and he was like kind of like that guy Who just had the cool car? Yeah, but it was kind of a couple years old and the maintenance wasn't done on it Yeah, but when he played a certain gear that yeah ⁓ why love because he's Matthew McConaughey and these confused ⁓ speaker-1: Yeah, hit the nitrous. speaker-0: And like every once in a he would just be like, as they're trying to outrun everybody's like, ⁓ yeah, watch this. And I love the look on his face. ⁓ yeah. That's great. She gets all upset about that, too. He's like, what? That's because he knows he's got to go back there and bang on some pipes with the pipe. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, man. That's the thing too, because they basically filmed it as Chewbacca actually talking to Peter Mayhew. speaker-0: Yeah, he did the talking. Yeah. British guy. speaker-1: And R2D2 is like, know, he's like the biggest guy that like cusses through the whole damn movie. That's why R2D2 is like, you know, C3. ⁓ speaker-0: Yes, he was like, oh, wow. Jay talked about that last time they kept that in there, too, which I thought was Yeah, great. When the Java sell them. Yeah. Or no, I think it's a later on. We'll talk about it in episode six. Well, return. But like the one guy was like the one robots like, what are you doing? He was like, a fight. Jesus Christ. speaker-1: My heart. You speaker-0: Totally curse that dude. ⁓ yeah, I'd say for my favorite vehicle. I would say Luke's land speeder speaker-1: Yeah, thing is dope. Yeah, I was speaker-0: I always wanted that. That was pretty cool. I seen how they did that and it was just a car with mirrors around the bottom. Yeah, that was. It made it look so real. you can't even tell. speaker-1: And that's another thing that looked freaking like They breathe so much life into that movie that was like with the sets and everything. was just like, this is actually like... speaker-0: It's too real. was your favorite vehicle from one? You're going to go with the Falcon or? speaker-1: I was like, ⁓ my god. I do love the Falcon because like as a kid I'd be like I'll be hanging out in that thing and stuff like that. like for me I was like there was a soft spot for me for the TIE fighters because that's just like icon. And the pilots look cool and stuff like that. speaker-0: Yeah, the hidden compartments too. The wheeze they made was so good. Anybody know how they came up with that noise? There's got to be a fact out there somewhere. I don't know if I remember that one, but there is something out there for that. I don't know. I don't care who you are in America. Ninety five percent of populate. If you just hear it, know exactly. speaker-1: Yeah, that's that's another that's the beauty about Star Wars man There's people that don't even watch it and it's just like it's there's there's so many iconic things about it You know and even has a moral like a moral story it has like, know, it's almost like ⁓ Like a martial arts type of mentality. It's got you know, it's like mythology and all that stuff I grew up on too because you know, just speaker-0: the end. Yeah, you can tell like Kurosawa kind of film, you know what I mean? watching 80s kung fu movies and stuff like that. just want to it's just kung fu movies in space. Yeah, it is. Yeah. Because everything with the Jedi is about honor and their sword fighting. You know, join the dark side kind of deal with the bad guys, the Empire usually. And then they brought it to the government in Episode one Phantom Menace. Yeah. About the Senate. speaker-1: Yeah, and that's that's the thing too because like when you're watching like in New Hope, know You know obi-wan's giving him like a background about his father and he's ⁓ yeah. I too was a Jedi died He's like you fought in the Clone Wars. And of course, was like what the is the Clone Wars, know? They would just drop all these little things. What the hell is that crap, you know? speaker-0: to that 30 years later when I like, wonder if he means old Ben. Yeah. And he's an Obi Wan. He didn't know Obi Wan and old Ben were the same guy. Another great sound to is a sand people. I love that sound because it echoed. Yeah. speaker-1: to it. They actually had real elephants and stuff. Yeah. With that's that's another thing to look at. Jesus Christ. These things are freaking real. Yeah. The Banthas were just like huge as a freaking you know, that's a real. And started with the due backs and stuff too. was like, what is that? That's a huge lizard. speaker-0: The Banff. Wooly Mammoth! and a ride in it. Freaking awesome. Look, sir, it's right. speaker-1: Yeah. ⁓ speaker-0: I just love the part when they roll up and he was like, these are not the droids you're looking for. And like he gives them the Jedi mind fuck. I was like, what the hell is that? You don't need to see his identification. We don't need to see that. That's working. You're like, that's it works. speaker-1: That's you man like I mean they blow up a frickin planet like Alderaan gets blown up by that big you know by the Death Star like she's like they can blow planets like how do you how do you defeat that crap? speaker-0: Evacuate in our moment of triumph. I. Every even as a kid, when I first saw that he said it, I was like, oh, they they're done. It's just like when every bad guy leaves the good guy like in a room by himself tied to a rock. He's like, you got five minutes before you die and I'm leaving. speaker-1: Yep ⁓ Just kill him now. That's what you gotta do. I'll just pull my room, I'll get the gun, boom! You just don't get it, do you? You don't. They're like they're going to love that. That's still like out of like for the order of Star Wars. How much I love them most is like I love like New Hope is still my first favorite one. Of course, Empire's second. All right. on. The end. Well, that's right. Yeah, I want to jump ahead, yeah. speaker-0: one thing I can't do now as a kid, I guess, you know, you don't hear it as much. after, know, that whole rant that Randall has in clerks about like, really? Rebel kids, you leave a hole this big. And then they go into all the construction people. Another thing which they could have talked didn't really talk about in clerks, but they should have been. Why did he have to go into that trench and fly all the way down? They could have just attacked that hole. speaker-1: Did that start? speaker-0: Right from above, would have been a much easier shot. You know what I mean? speaker-1: Yeah, well, you know, just everything they got a plot or. Yeah, I would. Yeah. Made it more visually cooler. speaker-0: You agree with that, Troy? ⁓ yeah, ⁓ yeah, it's so much cooler to see but you know, would have been much easier I mean Luke turns off his targeting computer everything, you know, you're like What's he doing? False Luke. Yeah speaker-1: I'm all right speaker-0: So all right, so we're going to wrap up a new hope. What did you guys think about it overall? speaker-1: ⁓ it's still one of my favorite movies. ⁓ yeah. speaker-0: I watch it whenever it's on, no matter where it's at. it a remote drop thing? Oh, yeah. speaker-1: Yeah. ⁓ yeah. Definitely. speaker-0: Yeah, We'll start talking about ⁓ now, but I'll close out with with the end of Star Wars like everybody like they're getting all these medals and all this and I was just kind of like what the hell did they win like okay, blow up the Death Star, but ⁓ speaker-1: thought that was yeah, I thought that was a really weird scene. She. And really smiling and laughing at each other, nobody says a damn thing. like, what the hell is going on? Well, you got to have like the nice ending and stuff, but it's like it looked like that. It was like that, I guess the rebels first real win against the empire. that. speaker-0: We didn't get one though. Yeah. That's like if you go win a Purple Heart in a war or something like that, you know, get rewards and medals and stuff like that for fighting in different battles and everything. speaker-1: It didn't destroy the Death Star that can blow up planets. then like the Death Star is like it actually the Death Star has a hyperdrive so it would actually go to other systems which is crazy and destroy other planets and stuff. So it's not like it's just sitting there by itself like a noofus. speaker-0: Too long to get into the right spot. like nine hours till Target is not there. speaker-1: That's later, that's later. Oh yeah. That Starkiller base shit still kills me. One day we'll get into that one too. Oh, those new ones just drive me nuts. The Raid trilogy, speaker-0: Which one? Oh, I don't know what you every time you say that I have no idea what the you're talking Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen a force the force awakens is basically just a new hope over again, it's different character. speaker-1: That one was like the trailers and the previews. I almost teared up when I saw the Millennium Falcon. speaker-0: Oh yeah, I my arm hair was sticking up, you know, when you hear. speaker-1: to the movie and I was just like, this is just fuckery. speaker-0: It makes you so mad because you want it to be so great. Yeah. speaker-1: That's basically it's one of those movies that's you know everything was in the trailers but you Empire Strikes Back was like another one too that like It just they grabbed you like right in the very beginning and everything you know Luke gets his ass whooped speaker-0: And to end the way it ends, you know, I mean, it's like I'm Sorry, we're jumping ahead but speaker-1: ⁓ yeah, fantastic, Yeah, especially Empire man, it's the first goddamn thing speaker-0: You both seen it in the theater, obviously. Yeah. And Troy was way too young to see it. Where did you see it first? speaker-1: Yeah speaker-0: You weren't even born yet. You said 82. Yeah, that was a dude. speaker-1: No, that was 80. I was born a ____ before the last one so that's as far as we get. speaker-0: They filmed the scene in the Hoth scenes were filmed in Norway. speaker-1: Yeah, outside the hotel. They were just like, ⁓ speaker-0: All the all of outer space and we're going to hide on the coldest goddamn planet ever. Now, I do it. I'm We can't find a place like Hawaii. You know, the empire came. speaker-1: Bitch. Maybe that was the first place they checked. speaker-0: Oh my God. I they have to be like, do I? Your Tontons are freezing up, man. Miserable, dude. Miserable. I would have loved it, though, being there in Hawth. That would have been fun. speaker-1: Yeah, do you like it the wampas and shit? Yeah, I remember as a kid I was like I wanted a wampatoi This is of course when it's always in full swing No, actually like mine was just like, you know, what else a wamp wampas that is the yeti? No, that's not a time And yeah snow guy snowman guy speaker-0: The with the arm came off. Oh, do you think they were riding? The Yeti that's getting in. Yeah, Bombadil speaker-1: But yeah, he was, I, of course I was one of those things like I wanted that toy cause I had like the Tonton and back in the day, like after the movie came out, of course, you know, wanted an ad at, and my parents would call it the app because it was just like, that thing was like expensive back in the eighties and stuff. speaker-0: I call it an AA as well, but other people call it ATAT. Yeah, I was I was I like that because it's either one's right now. Yeah, I would say AA. Yeah, that's funny though. You're not getting it. ⁓ You know why they made that scene where Luke gets hit by the Wampa, right? No, he was prior to this movie. He was in a motorcycle accident. Oh, and his face was all messed up, mangled up and free, free makeup. speaker-1: Yeah, that's why like, yeah, yeah, especially after like when you see like the closeups and stuff like that when he's in the med, med center and stuff, can see, he had a graft like a lot of like some skin and stuff from all the parts of his body in order to like, you know, speaker-0: Scarlet on his face, Now, what was the premise of the second one? the re rebuilding the Star rebuilding the Death Star. I do know that. speaker-1: The second one is basically... ⁓ Well, like, no one really knows about the Death Star yet because, like, there were the rebuild of the Death Stars in Return of the Jedi. So the Empire was actually basically hunting down the remnant rebels after they destroyed the Death Star. So that's why, like, know, Darth Vader was sending out the probes to look all over the place and then some of the other stories in between that because there's always like... speaker-0: Luke going to Dagobah. Yeah. I know everybody went. Yeah. Ways kind of. speaker-1: Yeah, behind the scenes and stuff like that. was always like in between each movie there was like a amount of time that that passed between both of those So after they found out that it was Luke Skywalker that destroyed the Death Star That's when Vader got interested and wanted to find him but later on come to find out You know the the big huge like crazy thing is that Luke I am your father because that's still like you know iconic speaker-0: And the awesome scene with the bounty hunters just when they're standing there, you know, yeah, my Those were my favorites me I had to get Bosque. ⁓ yeah boss. Yeah speaker-1: Yeah, needed those toys too, man. Garzakis, I G. Fetty, I G. D. was cool, but he got on my nerves because he was like, it's all. ⁓ speaker-0: Yeah. I remember as a kid that being the first movie where I was just like, holy smokes, the bad guys won. Yeah. Like it ended on like a like a real dark, surreal like you were just like, what the hell just happened? And then you're like, when? And it's not like now where like movies come out like every 18 months, you had to wait like about three, four years. speaker-1: Yeah. ⁓ yeah dude. ⁓ my god! Empire Strikes Back was like, definitely like my second favorite, of course, movie, but it was there was just another thing where it's just. speaker-0: It's my favorite. It's my favorite as well. I would say yeah getting frozen and carbonite, you know I was gonna say That line that he gives like lays like I love you and he looks at me. That's my favorite line. Yeah, probably the coolest line and two words to all was his two words ⁓ and one of coolest lines in movie history, I think doesn't get enough because the way he it, was like, yeah. speaker-1: Yeah, it's true. Really think about it to me because back in the day when I was a kid, like I liked Luke, Scott, when I loved Han. But if you really notice Han actually saved Luke on how many times. ⁓ yeah. Even like when he was getting ready to like. speaker-0: Then they freeze them and not let go. The end of New Hope he did. He's, he's, he's a millennium shopping cart. speaker-1: Roll a clear, kid, and let's get the lowest thing, get the hell out of here. You know, like, save them. speaker-0: Yeah, was just that's your favorite line. I know you said you didn't watch the Family Guy specials Have you seen the Family Guy when they did Star Wars and everything they do that line where she says I love you and Peter's response back is fuck off speaker-1: It's just great but that's another thing that actually put like Han Solo for the ladies as like, you know, they'll just ⁓ yeah speaker-0: Boy, like I said guys like that. It's looking back on it. Like you look and you're just like, ⁓ my God. We were shaped by these dudes. speaker-1: grew up watching Clint Eastwood movies and stuff too so Han Solo was ⁓ speaker-0: He's the go ahead and make my day, you know what mean? Yeah. He's that comic relief He's your John Wayne. mean, he's everything. speaker-1: He had one blaster and that's it and he just like kicked everyone's ass Yeah, he was good good pilot, yeah speaker-0: And he was a pilot, too. That made him pretty cool. Yeah, I was kind of I was I was really blown away by the end of that movie. And then like you brought it up earlier. Well, when Billy D kind of screwed it. First of all, how cool was that to have the court? Because he was that dude. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. And he was really and he was just like that kind of character, too, because he was CD. He was like the card player. You know what I mean? Yeah, that's how he won the Millennium Falcon in the card game. speaker-1: ⁓ yeah Yeah, cold 45. Yeah, definitely. That's another another place that looked real. You know what mean? The cloud city. Yeah, the cities and all that stuff. mean, granted, like some of the map paintings. Yeah. Like, OK, but the hallways and all that stuff. My God, they really. speaker-0: to open up that door and Vader's in there. speaker-1: ⁓ yeah, that's still like one of my favorite. That's the one thing I always notice about like George Lucas movies that there's always one. Yeah, like one scene or something that can give you like the goosebumps or something. It's just like he's got that one scene that just like. speaker-0: surprise. You're not exactly expecting kind of like, yeah. speaker-1: It's know, Vader coming through the smoke and then like a new hope and then, know, just like, I am your father. was just like, dude, like anyone left the movie theater. Everyone was freaking out. My parents like holy shit. speaker-0: Usually that's enough just like I am your father, but he loses his hand at that same time. It's like what's going so much going on in that? speaker-1: Cool thing too is like when I got into the ⁓ meeting for dinner, like Vader sitting at the dinner table and like Han Solo takes a couple shots at him and he's just blocking it with his hand. And then he like, then he force pulls it out of his hand. I was like, holy shit, this dude really is just that. speaker-0: Pray he doesn't alter the deal further. You know, I mean, it's just oh, yeah, he's ready, man. Yeah, Think in the last one I mentioned how much I the low bot that was a dude But he's the one who saves them he gets a do you agree with all that Troy? speaker-1: It just looked great in I bet I was cutting out. that again. Do you agree with like Lobot and the other guys? speaker-0: They were just saying how cool empire was because of like the special effects and all that and carbonite. Yeah speaker-1: ⁓ yeah, Empire is definitely out of the three my favorite. speaker-0: Now I'm gonna go around the horn here before we wrap this one up. What was your initial thought when you heard I Am Your Father? speaker-1: Oh, I've lost it. was like, holy shit, like, no way. I can't even try to like piece it together. You're like, maybe like. speaker-0: I can't believe it. You start thinking back to other scenes, you're like, wait, how? Yeah. You're like. speaker-1: You know, he's like this is Vader that actually, you know, chase down the Jedi, hunted down the Jedi Knights and destroyed them and stuff, you know, he's like my other apprentice. was like, get the fuck is going. Because even if you ever noticed too, without the deleted scenes, they never mentioned the Sith. It's always, you know, they talk about like, you know, Jedi Knights and all. speaker-0: They usually say it's the only thing they really say is dark side speaker-1: Yeah. But they never mentioned anything about the Sith except like actually in the one of the deleted scenes when they come back and they're all the generals are talking in that conference room. And you know, that's when Vader free. I find your lack of faith disturbing and starts choking the guy. The guy was talking about like this Sith Lord. Yeah. Yeah. And I mean, it's just like, dude, that it's just speaker-0: Vader release him. Yeah. I just remember watching it and when he said it, I turned to my brother I was like, ⁓ can you just ⁓ say? ⁓ was That's his dad. was like, what? speaker-1: Yeah, that's a shock there. And like the only that because like you said before shade like these movies came out after they're done Yep, they still stay in the movie theaters and TV, but you don't get a new one to like three years later You get to marinate with all that goddamn information. You're like, holy speaker-0: years later. Then as a kid, I'm looking back. I'm like, why the hell them Obi-Wan tell him in beginning? I think you didn't want to make him go crazy and go right to Vader at that time. You know what I mean? He wanted him to learn the force. speaker-1: got a train and all that stuff, He was like basically he didn't tell him because the kid was nothing. None of that shit. speaker-0: Was not ready for that. He's got too much of his father in him. ⁓ I wanted him to stick around and work on those motivators. ⁓ speaker-1: And he's all like rushing it. And that's another funny point too, especially you mentioned that Troy is about, Luke was actually going to join the empire. Cause in new hope, his buddy wedge Antilles was actually went into the academy and then he defected from, the empire and Luke wanted to be a pilot too. That's why, like, if you ever see like in a new hope when he's sitting there fixing like the, you know, given like a C three PO and R two D two of that oil. speaker-0: Amperu. Yeah, oil bath, yeah. speaker-1: He's got like that model ship and that's a t16 sky hopper. That's actually a ship that he had, but know, you don't really find out about that till later. But that's what he was. Yeah, I think. Yes, but you he was just this huge pilot because, you know, was the guy who looks the best bush pilot I know in Tatooine and, know, like you're getting all this stuff later. speaker-0: when he was going to shoot and whop right Yep. And Aunt Baru knew he had too much of his father in him. And you're like, at that time, you're like, who's his father? speaker-1: Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. I'm like, ⁓ man, what the hell is going on? And even like in speaker-0: So all that like leading up to that and then when you find out that that's his father like holy speaker-1: So many goddamn breadcrumbs. because even in the New Hope when the Vader's like, I sent something to prison, Simon Field sends. What is this? speaker-0: And then he just turns away, Yesterday speaker-1: Oh my god, dude, it was just like it wasn't like not only that because of you know the time it took between like the movies to come out and order to marinate there were everyone was talking about it and there was other movies that came out after that that kind of like Try to bite off of it and all that stuff. So Empire was still just like you're like, holy shit speaker-0: Well, what was, ⁓ what was your reaction to it, Troy, when you, when you found out that Vader was Luke's dad. speaker-1: Yeah, I mean, ⁓ I just couldn't believe it. like, they can't, you know, same like him, like he can't, that can't be true. I mean, 40, what is it now? 46 years later. still think that's probably not, if not the top one of the top, know, biggest. speaker-0: Like just almost. Yeah Well, the shopping moments. It's definitely a top 10 movie moments. Yeah. speaker-1: I think that has to rank up there as the top, not, not, if you got like grandmoms and actually, you know, know that, you know, that, that phrase on like when they watch jeopardy, you're like, Jesus Christ, yeah, this is that iconic. speaker-0: Yeah, I agree. Yeah. Well, getting back, I don't want to backtrack real quick, but like you said, know, iconic parts of this, like that opening scene in A New Hope. Where Vader steps through the smoke? Have you ever seen that video? And it's not just one person's dog. Like they they show like a 10 minute clip of like dogs watching that react. And as soon as he yeah, they go nuts. Yes, saw that. I was just kind of like, dude, that's how I can't. That's how bad is that dude is that 40 some years later, he's walking through and dogs are freaking out when he comes in because they just sense evil. They know he's a bad dude. I'm like, that's speaker-1: Crazy. speaker-0: Hard it is now for like people who haven't seen like young kids or whatever starting to watch it now, to not be spoiled because everything's known now. You know what I mean? Like, yeah, they kind of got away from that part. Yeah. Like the Skywalker stuff is pretty much, you know, I heard you guys talk about it on your pocket. Yeah. Like a lot of the stuff coming out now is that. ⁓ speaker-1: But you know, I think. speaker-0: a of these kids now all they know is that little they don't know that little green dude is Grogu or yeah they stay calm baby Yoda baby Yoda so that's all they grow Mandalorian they don't really understand you know that kind of stuff I'm sure they will down the road Mandalorian is badass speaker-1: Yeah. ⁓ yeah, definitely. But that's just like another western. Yeah, they're basically taking like Star Wars just knows what the hell they're doing. They're just taking like the stuff of like the old action movies and just putting it together. speaker-0: That's definitely a Western, That's what Lucas and those guys, they grew up watching, you know? speaker-1: Bangers, just knocking bangers. even like for getting back to Empire Strikes Back, even the scene where, you know, Luke comes into the carbonite chamber and like Vader's standing on top of there and it's like all like red and black and everything. You just see like the out, the silhouette of him. speaker-0: ⁓ it's awesome. have we talked about that last time and it's on my phone now. It's screen. speaker-1: So it's like it is it's just so impressive. He's like the force is with you young Skywalker speaker-0: Was just that one scene to where all those bounty hunters were standing up on that level right there. They were all standing next each other. speaker-1: these new freaking characters like who the f- are these guys? speaker-0: He's he's no good to me dead Boba Fett when he said that speaker-1: Yeah, when you saw him I was just like that dude's frickin awesome. But you know back in the day that was actually that was supposed to be the original like stormtrooper commandos. Yeah. So that's that's how that character started. But like he's another one that's in the movie for like literally. And he's like iconic. speaker-0: minutes. You know, do you know when the first time you see Boba Fett is in the not necessarily in a trilogy, it's in a different movie completely. speaker-1: Nope. Movie? Yeah. speaker-0: The 1978 Star Wars holiday special. There was a Boba Fett cartoon. I and that's one of the things I forgot to talk about on the other episode that we did and aired November 17th, 1978. So between A New Hope and an Empire Strikes Back Star Wars was they did a goddamn. I've never seen it, but that movie we did. We did an episode of our podcast on the holiday special. the way Empire ends kind of like I said, it was the first time as a kid I was like, holy smokes a bad guy is one because they pull Luke off that antenna at the bottom of that building and clouds He's hanging by his legs Hans frozen one hand ⁓ C3po and RTD our job is no ⁓ Like yeah, everything's speaker-1: They're still on the medical frigate, but they're like basically on the plans like all right, I'll meet you on Tatooine and all that speaker-0: And you're just kind of like, holy And they're going to Jabba's speaker-1: And I'm like, wait a minute, Orlando's got the Falcon back because, you know, in the Empire, you know, the Falcon was his. I was like, what the hell is going on, speaker-0: It's a total shit show. Weird thing. Weird thing in Jedi too is when Lando is wearing Hans outfit, it makes no sense. He's wearing Hans vest. Maybe that's what the crew of the Millennium Falcon have to wear. Guys from the US, the guys from US airlines wear the same shit that fly around. So it was when Lando and Nyan Num were flying the. speaker-1: I know, actually, yeah, you're right. I'm like, guess that's the... Turn Jedi. Yeah. speaker-0: Yeah, so I'm assuming you guys saw we'll go. We'll start with Jedi now. You guys both saw it in the theaters, obviously. What about you, Troy? He was only one. speaker-1: Until the re-release. speaker-0: Oh, God. What do you see? We see in the theater. think I saw in the theater because that was what? 83. Yeah. Yeah. And that was like the first year I really started going to movies. I was old enough to because I was born in 77. So I saw the first two on like HBO or something. Yeah. And then because my brother were like, you have to watch this before we go see three. Yeah. And I think that was the first one I actually saw in the theater. Yeah. Because I remember that was the same movie. Your first movie. Yeah. Yeah. That and it was either that or Rocky three. I was wanting because they both came out the same year. So but I remember I remember I kind of like Jedi. But there were some things about it. was just I mean, being your first movie to mix it a little more special to the Ewoks. I mean, lot of people you were at the age where Ewoks are cool. Yeah. You know. speaker-1: I had a couple of Ewok toys, the original thing for that was actually George Lucas originally wanted that he wanted the Wookiees to actually help overthrow the Empire. speaker-0: He couldn't, I think they couldn't deal with the budget. speaker-1: I couldn't find a bunch of big dudes. So by the way, I was like, a lot of times they filmed in Pinewood studios in the UK and they had a lot of, you know, small, small people. So. speaker-0: Yeah, it was easier to do like it was easier to do Ewoks because you had a lot of smaller people to take a look at some kids. can even have kids in there. You can even have midgets. Yeah. Small people, excuse me. I thought added three that was the best one for different vehicles. ⁓ Everybody loves a Tie Fighter X wing and millennium, but that was the one where Spiker Scouts. You had the speeder bikes. You had not the AT-ATs or to add. Yeah. Scout walkers were pretty cool because those were just two legs. Yes. I thought those. speaker-1: That's like my favorite. out of the Scout Walkers. I had that toy too man. I had that on you. were so many toys speaker-0: Man, I want one of those so bad, like in real life. And I thought to myself as a kid, I was like, man, 20 years. Speaking of ships, the we missed it. The slave one of a ship. You know, I had the Lego, the $200 Lego slave one. That's all. Now simply notice Boba Fett whip. Yeah, we look at it. It's just Boba Fett ship. So sad. That's what happens with Disney. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: ⁓ speaker-1: But the spider is a speeder bikes was like my shit. That was how speaker-0: Man, fast. They were going through this and everything. Oh, yeah. Caught him with a lightsaber. Yeah, the timing on that was incredible. just, yeah, I mean, to be watching forward and then when one was like right alongside you and just be like kicking and pushing it and pushing it into the tree. speaker-1: Course that was another toy you needed man. ⁓ yeah, like ⁓ my god cuz you know back in the day like Troy when you had the toys and stuff too speaker-0: Were you old enough to buy some of those toys? speaker-1: No, I mean, I friends that had them, like, because my brother's little bit older. speaker-0: He probably got the next set that came out that was like the ones that weren't worth money. I remember never. You never bought him. Your brother did. speaker-1: Yeah, I either had either I think either my brother might have had him or like friends of his had him. speaker-0: pretty much every figure. Yeah, I can't believe I sold them for 200 bucks. I'm an idiot. The GI Joe was the better they had the better figures because they had the bending arms Not at first though at first. ⁓ yeah, not at first but speaker-1: and stuff like that, yeah. ⁓ yeah, the original GI Jedi. But those things were just like, ⁓ return the Jedi was iconic too. Cause like when you see it, there was a little bit more wording and stuff like that. They talk about the Jedi and all of a now Jabba the Hutt, you're like, what the fuck is this thing? This is huge. Yeah. They wanna one guy. He's like, call on you. I'm like, what the. speaker-0: Fortuna Well, I should have worn that shirt. I had that shirt says they want to walk. It's backtracking a bit. mean, Empire will always be known as, you know, the Yoda episode. ⁓ speaker-1: Hahaha! We kinda glazed over Yoda and it was just like he was like He looks so goddamn real cuz like the lighting and everything and it's like his eyes his mannerisms I'm like after a while you knew it was like a puppet, but some of speaker-0: 800 years old. You can see the hair on like his facial hair, like the whiskers and shit. I was like, Oh my God, this is amazing. speaker-1: like glazed over Yoda. Yoda was iconic too. speaker-0: The only reason I went back to it is because in the beginning of Return of the Jedi, like, you like always wearing a whole black outfit for the time. Empire Strikes Back. He's like whining. speaker-1: ⁓ yeah. speaker-0: bitch, bro. And like it even noticed like you're the fucking one of them on the first. Like he's just like, ⁓ what do got in the bag? he's like, ⁓ all the time. He just told them who he was. He just goes total G. Yeah. Just like I cannot train him. Like, ⁓ he's like, ⁓ it's just patience. He needs by. And he's like, he's no patient. Yeah. And I was just like, What just happened here? Like this thing is supposed to be like a ⁓ thief or And that's a cool scene when he goes into that tree. What's up? He goes into that tree and he's fighting and it ends up being, you see the helmet come open. speaker-1: Yeah. first, like, I'm like, what the hell is the meaning with that? But you know, after a while you just figure like, he, Luke is going to suffer the same type of fate if he keeps going. Cause he's like impulsive. Yeah. He looks to, you know, as Yoda said, he's like, you rushed to the horizon. You looked for adventure. He's like, Jedi craves, not these things. Excitement adventure. Like you Jedi crave, not these things. And he was just like trying to teach them. Yeah. Yeah. I was agreeing. speaker-0: What were you going to say, Troy? speaker-1: And just the fact that like you make like this small little old guy and it's just so unassuming. And that's another thing. Yeah. Like another moral code where like you don't really judge a book by its cover. And, you know, he's the grand master of the Jedi, the Jedi Knights, you know. speaker-0: When you see it, what was it, episode two when he fights Dooku? ⁓ speaker-1: ⁓ I belt I jumped out of my speaker-0: That was insane the way he doing all his flips and everything. ⁓ yeah. I don't even need to see that in Empire when Luke's trying to bring the X-wing out of the water and he can't do it. ⁓ yeah. Yogi just gives that look like, and he just walks by himself. He's like, I was like, ⁓ what this little pain? Yeah. His little two foot cane. speaker-1: Yeah. And he had such like, was like almost like like like, like Zen type proverbs and stuff like that. He's like, ⁓ I can't believe he's like that is why you failed. speaker-0: Yeah, switching the words around just couple words switched around like that made him sound so so speaker-1: Yeah, because he was basically another thing with like Greek mythology like the mentor, know It's like you got this young impulsive like hero that doesn't really know everything but he thinks he does and he has like the mentors is actually trying to slow him down and be like look man you You don't really know the whole picture. That's another reason why you didn't really like give him all the information right away They slowly try to bring him in because you know for them It was like the last chance, you know, there was no one else really in the galaxy besides Leia when you find out later that, you know. speaker-0: And that's, that's what you said when he says that there's one more. Yeah. When he's getting ready to die. speaker-1: Because not only like they're not only just for them to be ready to face Vader But then even like in return the Jedi you don't even realize that there's someone above Vader and it's the Emperor when you see him You're like, you know speaker-0: Yeah, that's what he gets off that little. Yeah. Tri star. Yeah. And he's playing and he was like, the emperor's coming here. I'm like, who the hell is the emperor? The emperor's guards with those red. Yeah. That has those figures. speaker-1: Yeah, gotta get that figure Yeah, he had like a freaking yeah, I'm like Jesus Christ man, but and then the only thing Looking at him was like he was just so he was like crotchety too But if you notice a lot of times like George Lucas has like those hitting hidden meanings But like just like an empire where this little Yoda guy this little gringo is like, you know speaker-0: And you needed more than one. ⁓ yeah. Because couldn't just have one of them. Double our efforts. speaker-1: the powerful Jedi Knight. you're. Yeah. And then you see the emperor looks like this old crotchety old man. But then you see like these yellow demon demonic eyes. like, all right, there's more to this, dude. And then the. You're what the hell? What kind of powers that you because you're everyone's doing like the Jedi mind trick or the choke and a push and all that crap. And you didn't even really back then you didn't have like you knew the Jedi mind trick, but you didn't know any other type of like powers and stuff. Yeah. There really was no names. It wasn't like a lot of explanations and stuff. speaker-0: thinking that. lightning bolts coming from his finger. speaker-1: So like when you see the emperor and he's like this old dude like wearing a black. Yeah. And he's like over Vader. I'm like Vader's the freaking dopest dude in the whole freaking galaxy. And this dude is like, you know, it's with those. Yeah. Who? ⁓ man. Job of the hut. speaker-0: Like, what's he gonna do? Vader was afraid of him. Everybody was scared when they found out the Emperor was coming, remember? He's like, we should double our efforts. ⁓ yeah! speaker-1: You're like there's another fucking Death Star Jesus Christ. It's like almost fun when I first saw it as a kid I've actually thought that that was the original Death Star, but it was like, you know, so really Yeah, so I was just like, oh my god, it's the Death Star. I'd like no, it's the new death. I'm like, are you serious? What the So mind blown and then of course, you know like around when when Jedi came out Boba Fett was already like a super established character. Just as like, you know Darth Vader. Yeah speaker-0: part of it which He was another pimp. speaker-1: Yeah, and then he gets bitch slapped in the movie speaker-0: When they're when they're in Java's palace and like he's with all them chicks and he touches the one that gives her that I'll see you later. Girl. Oh, I was like, yo. Yeah. But then, like you said, when they're in that, I call I always get it mixed up with Mighty Python, the pit of despair. Oh, yeah. When he like they throw him in like I was just like, that's it. The rank or pit. Like they did that dude like that. Yeah. He's supposed to be one of the coolest guys in the history of this movie franchise. And they just he drops that girl into the pit first. Yeah. Yeah. speaker-1: Wow. speaker-0: Oh, you're talking about the dancer chick. Are we talking about? I was talking about. Yeah, but yeah, getting back to that, I was kind of like. speaker-1: Yeah, but like Boba Fett falling in the salt lake. He was just like freaking cool shit, too. And he barely talked to is like Lucas was able to get like those people with Misty because if you really notice Vader wasn't really in the movie a lot Basically, it was the movies are basically a story about Vader. But like yeah, he really able to speaker-0: You see him here and there. I mean, the scene when he's getting his helmet put on. speaker-1: You know, then freaking like returning the Jedi, know, Boba Fett was another guy just didn't talk. was just like he would sit there and he had the gun and. Like a little nod, like, you know, he's a badass, but he's like the G of all the bounty hunters. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, and then he just, you know, gets his jet pack activates and flies right. speaker-0: He was just not as happy. rocket on the back. He does live. He does. Later on. Somebody said later on, they tell you how he gets out. Yeah. Troy mentioned that in the book. It's in the book. speaker-1: ⁓ Yeah, even in the other there was like a lot of like the books back in the day There was like a lot of stories like I said in between ⁓ The movies Yeah, there was even like the regular like books from like, know the movies themselves that they had a little bit more extra in for more Yeah, so that's when like everyone was just like just starving for all this information like what the hell is it? speaker-0: Yeah, there's a of books that are out. Marvel did the Star Wars comics too. And that's when he had no idea more movies were going to ever come out. He didn't think anything. He figured it was done. He always heard, you know, he has a one, two, three and a seven, eight, nine, you know, and it's never going to come out. then when it did and speaker-1: And this is the stuff too, again, like we talked about before, like you had to watch it because if not that you don't know when now that stuff's coming back on like any other type of information or, know, even for me for the holiday special, which I'm glad I miss. I, went to bed and I never saw it again. speaker-0: Yeah, was like movies like Wizard of Oz was only on one time a year. Yeah. You know what I mean? And if you did, and it was like appointment television, you were there to watch it that year. If you didn't, you had to wait till the next time it was on. Most of the time you didn't get it again. Yeah. But like Wizard of Oz was when it was, I think Thanksgiving, I think it used to be on. speaker-1: I said, but like getting back to stores, there's so much like iconic like sound effects and just ⁓ Yeah, you know all return of the Jedi was like the same thing. You're like, holy crap Like how the hell they gonna top this crap man's like what what is going on and just seeing how Luke matured and he was all he was like calm and relaxed by the end of the movie and he Decided he wasn't gonna destroy his father He was not gonna like do the same fate as like what happened to his father and he accepted it. ⁓ speaker-0: I'll And he became. Let me ask you guys this, because this is one thing I never understood. When he shows up at Jabba's Palace. Right. And they throw him in the pit with that dancer chicken, that big monster comes out. I'm sure. Yeah. I was going to say one of you guys knows the name of that thing. ⁓ there you go. ⁓ doesn't he just use that on my trick to choke that fucker out? Just like, you know, Vader always does. Just look at that monster. Just like. speaker-1: Yeah, very cool. You really gotta make like, you know what like? Exciting man, there's like, you know, where's his lightsaber and he's just takes this big frickin leg bone and just stuffs it in his mouth right before that he's like speaker-0: But do that is something like we would think of, you know what mean? I'll take a leg bone because I don't have any powers. And then I'll sneak under them and maybe, you know, give them a ball shot and shut the door. But Vader could use the choke hold so many more times. He only uses it. ⁓ speaker-1: Yeah. The thing to that because like in the beginning of that that scene like that's when Luke actually uses the force choke on the Gamorrean guards. Yes, and I'm like You know, and he's just like pointing out just you know, speaker-0: Java tells him because I guess he tries to do it to your mind trick doesn't work here brother. Like it doesn't work. I love those Gamorrean guards. ⁓ yeah. They're just like a big green pig. speaker-1: ⁓ yeah, dude. Because even like the scene when the rancor is eating one of the men, he's just like, it's like a big frickin' little Debbie cupcake. ⁓ speaker-0: And when they come in the Jabba's ⁓ speaker-1: It's a Beaumont monk. That's like another books that came out that actually tells you what that but that spider thing. ⁓ speaker-0: That was that was an added scene too. Like I remember like the chick with the lip thing. But like when the added scene, I thought I was on a Taylor Swift concert for a minute. I what the hell is that? speaker-1: I didn't like that one. I was like, I'll take the old one. The chintzy wind. speaker-0: Return of the Jedi become a musical. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It too much to bid Fortuna when he's like playing with R2D2 and he's got his long nails along the R2D2. Oh, yeah. He did some creepy shit. Yeah. speaker-1: Yeah, a little creeper man. Like extra tentacles. I was like, what exactly are those tentacles? speaker-0: They was wrapped around. Yeah. that's where R2 curses out the other guy, because when he shows up, he was like, take these droids as a gift. And like, he feels like that. He's like, well, he's like, he hit him on a go back and are like, what do you do? And he was like, oh, you're a feisty. I like, don't be like that. And that's Salacious Crumb was sitting there laughing. Yeah. speaker-1: Yeah. And then like with me when I was watching those movies, of course I was watching with my parents and sometimes my dad was like, what the fuck is wrong with that? God damn it. Like some of this stuff is like Jesus Christ. He was like, this is annoying with that little solicitous crowd. I was, I was like eating it up, man. Cause like Jabba was just like huge. yeah. And he looked so goddamn lifelike too with the big eyes. speaker-0: ⁓ yeah. And then he's just laying there on that like podium. Yeah. I mean, moves back and forth. speaker-1: He's like grabbing like frogs out of that, like, I don't know, that dish and he's just like slugging them down and everything. like the languages, you, you just got so engrossed in the world. Oh yeah. There's front. Yeah. But like, know, his, even his like, know, Hatties and stuff like that with all the language. Cause they actually, did it went to other like civilization. speaker-0: They're Then they take them all to that pit where they're going to throw them in. The Sarlacc pit. And I'm not going to lie, dude. I laughed my ass off because Billy Dee Williams, like we said, was one of the coolest dudes of the ⁓ 80s. ⁓ But when that tongue, when he was on the side of that pit and that tongue came up and grabbed the right. I don't know if he really thought he was going in there, but that scream was the biggest bitch scream I've ever heard. And how scared and how nervous he was when Han had the gun. speaker-1: Because I was still like blind from the carbons. ⁓ speaker-0: That I left my ass off when I heard that scream. I was like, ⁓ speaker-1: Well, even the bounty hunter Boush, like, you know, when he was like, have hibernation sickness. I was like, who are you? Like someone who loves you. was like, ⁓ crap. was like, but of course that was another toy I need to get man Boush. ⁓ yeah. It was like, you know, was. Yeah. speaker-0: Helmet came off. That was so cool. Yeah, I love those figures speaker-3: I don't know what do! speaker-1: It was like such a like a like even like when they got out and they were on the sailing barge and stuff like that and Han so was like, hey, how we doing? He's like, like Norm. He's like, that bad. They just always fumbled through stuff, man. speaker-0: R2 is like delivering drinks. ⁓ I love what you three build knocks into many curses. speaker-1: Everybody was part of that. They have Salem barge. speaker-0: And so once they got all out of there, they headed up to the thing and that's where they met your boy Akbar. speaker-1: That was another one like back in the day. I don't know, Troy, if you were, if you knew about this, like back in the day, there were some figures that you actually couldn't get to buy actually mail away for it. But not only that, yeah. Yeah. like this one was like, you know, the, emperor, Admiral Akbar nine numb and some other figures. speaker-0: remember when I set the way for that, had to send away like four UPCs and speaker-1: Basically had to buy four figures, take their little like proof of purchases and stuff like that. And then put it in a mailbox and like, yeah, six weeks, speaker-0: And then just wait. That's how we got started in slaughtered. What did Troy? Yeah, that's how I got started. I want to say I got started like that, too. Yeah, I saw him upstairs. Yeah. Do you have the weapon with him, too? I don't think I the way I think I was like the stick. Yeah. Well, that thing was called. I forget what it's called. I want one of those in real life. I can't find it. But. speaker-1: Yeah, cause Gia Joe definitely came out later, but that, of course that was. speaker-0: Yeah, I do remember that. Not even mention that. That's why you had to mail in for it. speaker-1: We should do an episode on GI Joe next time Troy you win for that man. speaker-0: G.I. speaker-1: Toys. Yeah. Yeah, and 80s toys and Saturday morning cartoons, man. ⁓ yeah, so we can do like two separate ones with that speaker-0: Getting back to Star Wars ⁓ That so then they get together and they're like, holy smokes. They build another Death Star. We got to go blow this one up How do they do it? I kind of forget how they I know they had to deactivate the force field down in the forest planet, right? But how did a speaker-1: They had to go into the death star. was no trench or not like that. And they had a disabled. speaker-0: Oh, yeah, they had to fly into the core of it. Yeah. OK, I got you. Yeah. Because I kind of forgot I was like, didn't leave that port open again today. No, This time elsewhere, though. speaker-1: Because was like it was a different it was a complete different one. speaker-0: That's a part of the end or right? That's where and or where the Ewoks were. I'm sorry. Go ahead, Troy. speaker-1: I said, I think the planet was given the Death Star shield, right? that was, yeah. And it was actually not really the end or it was actually the forest moon of endorsement planet and or it was on one of the moons. speaker-0: Yeah, that's right. That's a good place to hide. Yeah, good pull, dude. Good place to hide. speaker-1: Good pool. Yeah, and then they're all the more, you know, like that's the thing we always like people talk about too, because like, you know, the Ewoks are all cute and all that shit. But meanwhile, they want to eat you because they were going to eat. Yeah, but they try to eat Luke and Han and the guy they were going to eat chewy to. speaker-0: Say we're eating people and shit, all right? Thankfully, they three POs are God. Yeah. speaker-1: ⁓ yeah, because they all yeah, that would have been a dog, man. That's that's basically another movie a bit less like 30 minutes and then they didn't at the end. Because even at the end of the movie, when like everything. And all those fire work helmets and stuff like, yeah, those like that main village probably was just like entertaining the guests. Meanwhile, because you saw like other trees and all that stuff back there, they were like, there's thousands of dead stormtroopers right now. So they're either like. speaker-0: singing and everything. Just laying out there. Yeah. Those helmets on the biker scouts are badass. yeah. Like dirt bike helmets almost and then just like shielded across. Yeah, those are pretty cool. Those are probably my favorite. speaker-1: Dude, they just like ⁓ They like one of my favorite guns. ⁓ yeah. When I was a kid, it was like all the empire stuff was cool as shit. The rebels were like, know, have too many rebel guys. speaker-0: I was gonna say Empire Strikes Back was probably my favorite movie, but when it came to visual like the vehicles the outfits and all that stuff like that return was probably My favorite because like even job is big-ass ship was pretty cool because they had like that canvas The way that the way that just hovered to everything speaker-1: Yeah, ⁓ Robert man was like, ⁓ I can't wait to we get older and we got flying cars now. We just got electric. speaker-0: Yeah, I never we should have we need on said there's one coming in the next year, too He said he's got one in development. Yeah, but how long before we could get to it? You know what mean? It's like the hoverboard should have been here by now. Yeah Back to the future. You know what mean all that shit. Yeah, I don't you could do a back to the future trilogy discussion, too That's your that's your job. ⁓ your pod. We already did back to the future ⁓ want to do it again? ⁓ speaker-1: Yes. speaker-0: That's perhaps iconic almost as big as Star Wars if you think about it It's not as big but it's ⁓ it's one of my favorite georgias of all time. Yeah, I never saw the third one though speaker-1: Yeah, I mean, yeah That one's probably like more mainstream for people because like, know, there's people like, ⁓ I'm not into like all that star wars type crap. You know what mean? But back. speaker-0: How many people used to say that most of the chicks to Star Wars? Like the Big Bang Theory actually bought a lot of Like not more fans to it, but like more recognition that it's cool. You can be cool and let's watch Star Wars I think now it's that made nerd nerd nerd nerd. Yeah, nerdim is kind of cool now Which all the nerds make the money to rest in peace my man ogre. Yeah speaker-1: ⁓ yeah. Yeah, yeah speaker-0: So upset when I heard about that. we just lost Robert Carradine ⁓ not too long ago too. Yeah, yeah. ⁓ speaker-1: That's like another movie that like, know, that's like kind of made like the nerds kind of cool because you know back in the day everyone's like, you know, you didn't want to be a nerd. speaker-0: We will not stop until murder persecution. As a kid, I'm like, are we really? Really? speaker-1: Wow. But if you really think about it, you're really get like that much of a poindexter, just like you. speaker-0: You need to protect Lamar speaker-1: Yeah, the like the all that stuff man was just like it was you know, there's it was like a certain group of people that were in the Star Wars speaker-0: Trilam's. Oh, no doubt. And I'm not going to lie, dude. Like growing up as a kid, like once I got to like high school and shit like if you're one of those dudes wearing a star wars shell, like fucking geek. I mean, I was cool with you, but I was just like, you're a fucking nerd. Yeah. So I didn't hide it, though. I still word on my sleeve. Yeah. Oh, well, I mean, I beat you up for sticking a locker, but because I said I went to a small school and our graduating class was like eighty five. yeah. And six. We had something. I knew everybody, but I would just like, you know, to 400 in my graduating class. speaker-1: Yeah. Shavis would be up and later and be like, ⁓ you're cool, bro. speaker-0: He's like, you want to come over and play with my Star Wars figure? speaker-1: He's hanging over the side of the stairwell. NERDS! speaker-0: That was one of John Goodman's first movies. Yeah. And there it's such a great movie. I love that movie. But getting back to Star Wars. OK, so they roll up and now they're waiting for Han and his crew to disable the shield. Right. One thing I never understood and we talked about this earlier is all them. And like even Billy Dee Williams picks up on it when he flies around, he's looking, he's like, why aren't them Star destroyers just sitting there? Why are they waiting on? speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: Why not just and of course the Emperor just like, you know, once they're done, you know, and like, yeah, I'm like, dude. ⁓ speaker-1: He's just trying to do it. Like because it was just trying to go Luke did like become the new apprentice. He's done with Vader, you know, he's just like he was always like. speaker-0: That's they wanted. I mean first we wanted him and Vader Luke and Vader at first but then when Vader was done, know, he's like I gotta get Luke now Yeah, if I ever become a bad dude or villain it's over for y'all because I ain't Whoever to hear that story is getting greased speaker-1: Yeah. He just wanted to like cross them all over because he was just basically making a look out the window speaker-0: Wait, it waited. like the shield came down. And next thing you know is Babu. Put him in that room all over. It's like, put him in that room for a little while. I'm going to go over here. Yeah. It's like, why are you leaving him alone? speaker-1: And then he's like, you know, squashing at the end, like, you know, he's like, father, please. And, know, that's when you see, like, you know, the emperor with the light and you're like, holy shit, what's that? speaker-0: Before he picks him up. Okay, before we get to that, did you think we'll start with Troy first, Troy? Did you think that Vader was going to help Luke out when the Emperor was, you know, giving it to him? speaker-1: At first, no, first, no, just based on the previous movies. speaker-0: Yeah, but like in your heart or did you have like any kind of feeling? Because I thought to myself, I was just like, dude, do something. Yeah, like I didn't think it was going to help him, but I was like, do something. speaker-1: I honestly, I didn't expect him to help him and I was actually pretty shocked that he when he did help him. speaker-0: What about you guys? You guys have any feelings either way? I wanted him to help him. I thought that would have been pretty cool. and to see him like go off together as the two of them not ruling the galaxy, but protecting the galaxy, you know what mean? speaker-1: I had a feeling that he was gonna help. Because by that time I wasn't sure how it was going to end. Vader becomes good or he dies protecting Luke. That's how I was thinking. speaker-0: the thing that Lucas did was putting him in that helmet. You can never read his emotion. Right. Like the whole time the Emperor's given it to like you just see Vader looking, but you can't see if he's like grimacing or if he's like, ⁓ and he's always got the same voice. Yeah, he's always got that same to me. So shout out James Earl Jones. Yeah. And of course, in the extras, they just they added that. No, no. Like in the real movie, the original, he never said a word. It is crap. Yeah. So you never saw it coming. speaker-1: He just grabbed him like, yeah. If you think about it, man, the way he grabbed him, it's almost like he grabbed him because he's got like robotic arms and stuff like that. He probably just like grabbed him by like his spine. I like lifted him up and just like just grabbed him like in by. And just chucked him down the elevator, like the jet of the the. speaker-0: Yeah, right? It's like he's a coffee mug. Yeah. Wait that shot too when it's like a purple light that comes up when he falls down. That's so cool. speaker-1: Yeah, because you're like, damn, that's how powerful that fricking gets too. Because even they were saying like, you you're Luke, you're not ready. Like the Emperor is too powerful and all that stuff. So like in the back of my mind, I knew like they had to team up or something. There's there's something that had to happen in order for them to team up. speaker-0: I didn't know how I was gonna go. I was like speaker-1: that because like by that time, yeah, you're just like drinking in the whole goddamn movie like, holy shit, what's going to happen? What's going to happen? Like, you didn't really you're at the age where you really. Yeah, I didn't really like think what was going on because you're too busy, like watching everything as it happens, know, but like on the on the when Lou came to turn himself in. speaker-0: You're questioning everything. speaker-1: And he's like, you know, I accepted father. He's like, ⁓ so you've you've you've accepted the truth. Like I accepted that, know, you were once Anakin Skywalker. My father's like, that name no longer has any meaning. And I was just. speaker-0: ⁓ And that's when Luke's like father, he's calling him father. That was a little weird at first, like, because he said father like a couple times, I was like, that's weird, you know? speaker-1: like he's just trying to get up. Yeah. He's trying to get to him. And he's like, no, it's like, this is, is, yeah, you're my dad, dude. This is not who you are. He's like, he's just trying to get to him. Yep. It's basically like Luke's coming in to like save his father. He's like, I gotta, I gotta, I gotta confront him. I gotta, I gotta save him. Yeah, to redeem him. know, you're like, what the fuck? That's another thing though, ⁓ watching, watching it for the first time as a kid, like they never really explained why Darth Vader dies. You know, like what, what, what's the actual final blow that kills them? know, like. Yeah. speaker-0: Well taking the mask off Taking the mask off didn't help him. Yeah, but he was dying before that. Yeah, but that's what killed him at the end The mask was the last straw. Yeah, maybe it was all the electricity speaker-1: Yeah. That's basically what it was. Yeah. Basically. Yeah. I looked it up later in a later on in life. And it was like, when he picked the emperor up, if you look, if you look at back at that scene, like the electricity is like flowing through Vader. Yeah. Yeah. So it basically kills his life. speaker-0: Takes it all in, Cuz he's not Tony Stark that shit. He's not much of a body. He doesn't have any legs or anything cuz his body's pretty much gone from speaker-1: that machine on his chest is what's keeping him alive. also him in the dark side is what also is keeping him alive. Yeah. Yeah. speaker-0: And that is a lot like Tony Stark with the snap. Yeah. It's a call that energy from the snap. Yeah. speaker-1: when you first watch it but when you either you look into the lure of it you know you're like ⁓ shit that makes a lot of sense you know yeah yeah ⁓ speaker-0: And then I kind of thought he was going to make it and he was just like, take my man. Now that was another thing that kind of screwed me because I was like, I was expecting like the head from that dude from the Goonies or some shit. Yeah. You know, you got like when he took that mask off, I was like, man, that dude looks like school janitor. ⁓ speaker-1: And for me, when I was a kid, I was like, looks like fucking Uncle Fester. Yeah. For the longest time, that like that's the one thing that always like made like for me the mystique about Vader. So I was like, what is I wonder what he looks like and all that crap. But I was actually hoping if they would have shot that, that maybe they show like from like Luke's perspective or like, know, Luke gets to see his father and stuff like that. And you don't get to see what he looks like. speaker-0: Yeah, that was another one. he baldhead like this. just left it in your imagination. That would have been pretty cool. I never thought of it like that. speaker-1: Yeah, because like from the back view, like you can see like the side where like, you know, maybe the back of his head or like the side side view. speaker-0: That was David Prowse's head, right? Or was it somebody else's? David Prowse that was in there the whole time and he thought his voice was gonna be the voice of Vader for the longest time. ⁓ yeah, and then they gave it to James O'Jane speaker-1: all his lines look like that too, you know? speaker-0: And then David Prowse was at the end. He was a ghost before they made it Hayden Christensen with the special edition. speaker-1: It wasn't David Prowse. It was another actor. ⁓ God. I like, I forget his name Christian or something like that. It was sound Sebastian Sebastian. think Sebastian Stan, I believe. speaker-0: Yeah, well, he took that helmet off. I was like, dude, just looks like somebody like old dude who needs some sleep. speaker-1: That bag's under his eyes. Yeah. And he had like that cut on top of his head and stuff like that. And I'm like, ah, was like, yeah, you just should have kept. speaker-0: It should have left a mistake. They should have let him see him, not up. Sebastian Shaw. speaker-1: Yeah. Sebastian. OK, yeah, it was close. speaker-0: David Prowse was the primary actor in a Darth Vader suit for the majority of Jedi. However, the crucial unmasking scene was Sebastian Shaw. Was Prowse the guy for all three movies? speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, there was a couple of times like in return of the Jedi there was another guy like a fight stunt coordinator that did like a lot of the lightsaber fights with Luke on Bespin and they did that together. Okay, you know there was also other ones were like Luke actually was whooping his ass on Bespin. It was like, know, smacking him like smacked him on top of the head and smacked like his armor and stuff like that. So, you know, but you don't really get like all that information till like after you know, because there's so many different stories or like, you know, almost like like ⁓ drafts, like, you know, drafts. So. And while they change everything and stuff like that, so they can still like around that time when all this was all said and done, yes, you had a little bit more information about stuff. speaker-0: I think there was only two people on the set that knew Vader was the father was his father. So this way it was shocking to like everybody around. Well, he did good job of that. So at the end, he picks him up, puts him on his little escape pod thing and then they blow up the Death Star again. ⁓ yeah. And then everybody's partying down in Lando and I am number one. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, getting wasted on Ewok booze and stuff, you know? speaker-0: Now, another thing I want to bring up real quick is before they start to fight in Return to the Jedi, him and Vader, you know, Vader's just like, you know, we're going to kill your friend. He was just like, and your sister and you have a sister. And I'm like, dude, you're the dad. How the hell do you and I think we talked about this for because you were just like, ⁓ they were all separated at birth. Like, know, but he could sense every time Luke was around. How comes those Jedi senses didn't go off? speaker-1: Yeah, I guess so. speaker-0: in the opening scene of A New Hope when he walks up on Leia and that's his daughter. So how would he just like I've sensed something. speaker-1: Well, yeah, because basically like you can actually kind of shut down your force awareness and stuff So people actually don't know they have it. They're not really becoming tuned with it. You know what mean? So Leia had no Yeah So yeah, cuz that's why like after a while like even Luke reached out to Leia in Empire He's like Leia hear me, you know, come help me and she like she was just sitting there she just went like like a feeling like a speaker-0: It's a midi-chlorian. ⁓ so she has to put out a signal too. speaker-1: Like an inside thought, like wait minute, we got to turn around. Luke's there. We got to turn it around. Cause you could see like it's starting to slowly change that she started to become more aware of her stuff too. I mean, cause like, yeah, Vader didn't know. speaker-0: Yeah, because she's the one who says where's that. becoming more powerful. She was quite the badass in Jedi, too, you know speaker-1: Basically all Vader knew back then was just like to kill everybody and like his you know he didn't have any kids you know his wife was dead and just Wipe out the rebel alliance speaker-0: Go ahead, Troy, what were you saying? speaker-1: No, just saying, yeah. So unfortunately, we don't find out until later, you know, he doesn't he doesn't know he even had kids, his wife died. So when he does since Luke is, you know, he's already being trained by Obi-Wan, so he is starting to use the force later, speaker-0: He's putting out signals. Yeah. The signals are coming out. So is that why she saw the face for her brother? Because she didn't know ⁓ twice. She kissed him twice. speaker-1: She's like, yes. Yeah, pretty much. Yeah, man. Yes, he was giving it out to it. Yeah, he's going to give it to hand to me. I was like, ⁓ speaker-0: She was just trying to make hand jealous speaker-1: It's either Hannah Luke or the the Wookie so I'm gonna go with the humans speaker-0: He said he could arrange that so much rather kiss a wookie. speaker-1: She was a bad-ass too though, She's just, know what I mean? It's good. You just basically like everyone's coming from all these different walks of life. You know, you got a princess, like a kickass, you got a farm boy and you got a smuggler. speaker-0: can never wrap my because I remember now that we wrapped up the trilogy, like the ending and stuff, we'll get to what we all think. But like that scene where she's in Jabba's hut and she's all like half naked and stuff. I remember like getting ready to watch it for the first time in like 20 years. I was just like, now this is hard. I remember as a kid, let's see if I and I was like, man, she's got amazing abs, but she really doesn't do anything for me. told you I like her better in her new hope out. I thought she was better looking in the burbs. speaker-1: Yeah. actually, but like I did, I did the thing too. When I finally met Carrie Fisher, I got her to sign as like the original, like the white outfit, you know, instead of. Yeah. Cause it was just like, for me, I just felt it was more respectable. speaker-0: Burbs is a great move. Okay, with the buns. I hate that I missed out on that. Go ahead. Go ahead and say it. I missed out on the no, no, no, no, no. Say what? The white outfit. Why does she wear the white outfit? Why she wears a white outfit? She had the ⁓ she didn't wear a bra because there's no bra in space. That's right. And George Lucas told her that if she wore a bra, it would basically constrict her and it would choke her. So that's why she didn't wear a bra. But they taped her breasts down. But I had the chance to meet Carrie Fisher and I said, she's young. speaker-1: and speaker-0: Let me go meet this old man, George A. Romero instead, you know, and ⁓ she died shortly after that, but so I never got to meet her. speaker-1: We both got a luck that on that because I was like, I want to see George Romero too. I was like, all right, maybe after her, can go see George. speaker-0: That lines was just so long. mean, George Romero waited almost two hours, I started I started outside. I was outside the building. Finally came in. Man, I'm still stuck on the brow thing. I need to know if like I need to do some research to find out these female astronauts are wearing brows when they go to shit. Oh, my God. I want to know if that's true. speaker-1: He was like on the other side or some crap too. was like, there's no, speaker-0: Is that something Lucas just came up with? ⁓ it was what Lucas came up with because she was getting asked on interviews and everything, and that's she didn't know why. But then they were backstage after a talk show. And Lucas told her, what's that saying? I don't know if you just like, look, just just tell these dudes there's no, know, there's no. That's probably some. Somebody did research and yeah, truth to it where there's some sort of thing where it could choke you out or whatever. But like I'm going to do some research. We're going to find out that. speaker-1: that's the case and like dudes wearing underwear in space to the body and all their junk's gonna get like smooshed or something I mean speaker-0: I don't know what they were. Do you know what they I don't know what they were out there. You know, you wear a hammocks up there? I don't know what they have on their suits. speaker-1: You know, mean, you know, they're just going commander when they get it, you know, drop a deuce or pay. They're just like, you know, just finding like a an airtight receptacle just to, you know, just dispatch their waste. Yeah. But they're like, it's like so much like BS about that. speaker-0: I watched a new space movie last night. Project Hail Mary. I saw that. speaker-1: How was that? The rock thing and all that that rock character? It was good. speaker-0: Yeah, I like the big space guy. I dislike the Martian. I did not like that movie at all. Really? Yeah. This movie I thought was great. ⁓ you meant the one with. Yeah, the movie. I'm at the end. That was the same guy that wrote that wrote that Mary that arrival. Those are movies I'll never see because I have no interest in. I'm a big contact. That was horrible. Yeah. I Ryan Gosling. So I was going to check this. He was good in it. Well, speaker-1: the Martian. ⁓ yeah. do with the joe. Speaking of that, to get back in the Star Wars, Ryan Gosling's gonna be in the next... speaker-0: He's in the next one. It's a non-Skywalker thing too. My girl Mia Goth is in that as well. What is the premise of that? We got about five minutes left ⁓ speaker-1: Basically, the... Luke is part of like the you know, and Hoth, they almost have like a like a group of like starfighter pilots, you know, like there's Rogue One and Rogue Two, know, Luke's Red Five. So like in the outside of that, they had the other stories that it's Rogue Squadron that were like the ace fighter pilots and stuff. that's that's it's basically exactly. Yeah. Yeah. speaker-0: All right, let's start to wrap this up. Troy, go ahead and give us, know, just a general idea of how you feel about the first three, you know, where it left you as a kid and, you know, all that stuff like that. speaker-1: I mean, I think it paved the way for everything I watched thereafter. ⁓ I think anybody in the future would, these are the three movies you need to watch. Don't worry about the other six. ⁓ Definitely watch these three and enjoy them. ⁓ For me personally, five, five, four, six, that's the order. I love them in the ranking of how good they are. speaker-0: Yeah, I agree. That's my same ranking as well. Five, four, six. speaker-1: ⁓ yeah, I mean, they're, great. I can't, can't say enough about them. Continue to watch them to this day. Hope my kids follow in my footsteps and, and love them just as much as me. So that's about it. speaker-0: Yeah. What about you, Jack? I agree. mean, I love these first three movies. ⁓ I would say it's almost my religion. I don't have a religion. I don't follow religion, but this would be my religion if there was, you know. ⁓ I love the characters. I had all those figures as a kid. ⁓ I would love to start collecting them again. I actually thought about doing that. mean, I would recommend them to anybody that hasn't seen them. This first three movies, ⁓ they're all three of those movies are probably in my top 10. So yeah, I, I, I it. ⁓ I'm to go next. I'm going to let you close this out big guy. Cause you're the why we're all sitting here. Him and George Lucas, right? ⁓ speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. speaker-2: Thank speaker-0: I am typically not a sci-fi guy. I am not a big space guy. Like I never got into Star Trek, Buck Rogers or any of that. Did you watch the alien movies? No, never got into that. That's some good stuff. Yeah, I was just never into that kind of thing. But these are the exception to that rule. When you're a kid and you see Star Wars for the first time, you're just like, oh, like you said, that opening scene where he comes out of the smoke, you're just like, what the hell is that? Because at that point in movie history, besides like the get the guys tying to deem to the railroad tracks before that before that. the godfather would probably be the next. You know, yeah, it's before the rich guy was picking, you know, like Ebenezer Scrooge and stuff like that. That dude Vader was like, well, Lex Luthor. But I mean, he was just a regular dude. That guy was the first dude. You were just like, holy moly. That is a bad ass dude. He's a problem. You know what mean? Yeah. And he's just so impressive when you see him that keep and everything. Yeah. And then once you see that first movie with all the different characters and stuff, you're like, holy moly. And then the second one, you're like, dude, is the first movie I've ever seen. I at the time I was like six or seven. The bad guys won this episode. And just like what? So now you got to go see the third one. And then the third one, like you said, it tied in because I was around that age where the walks were cool. Yeah. There was more, you know. The Scout Walker things were cool. The speeder bike, you know, your job, like man. And of course, Han is a total stud the whole way. So to me, those movies were a huge part of my childhood and most of Gen X. And I'm so glad I watch them. I'm so glad I can, you know, sit here and not have the knowledge that you guys have. I mean, you knew the name of the goddamn big monster and job fit. But. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: Just be able to sit here and talk to you guys about it And like I said when I was in high school and stuff you see somebody with Star Wars shit And I just like just bust their chops a little bit like hey fucking nerd, but you know deep down inside I am that nerd too ⁓ and I truly enjoyed it, and I you know I recommend everybody it's one of those things like it's probably on those movies like the top 1000 movies you have to see before you die, but I also give it to your kids to watch and make that a family movie because or get together with some of your buddies like you guys used to do and make a day out of it. So, yeah, I love those movies, man. And I'm glad I'm glad I'm a part of the whole Star Wars. Go ahead, hurry, close out. speaker-1: Yeah. Oh yeah, definitely. All right. Well, like for me, of course, you know, that was the first movie I ever saw as a kid. So it was just like so much iconic characters. Like Vader still like, you know, he's Vader to me is like the greatest villain in cinematic history. I agree with that. How impressive he is. And it's just like, there was so much to that character. And like you said, you didn't really get to see him a lot, you know, he wasn't in the movies a lot. So of course, know, was movies, the toys. All the movies and just like after a while, when, when that was said and done, I still, you know, this was like in the late eighties too. So after like, you know, return the Jedi was done. I was looking for other stuff to like, kind of. Fill the gap. You know what mean? But subconsciously, I never really realized how much stuff I was already interested in watch before Star Wars that was already in this already. And that's, that's probably what brought like the most allure for me because like the Jedi were like the samurai. And of course the Sith were the ninja. And like, you know, after the movies came out, it was the 80s. So I'm watching like Kung Fu theater. And I was I was always that guy back in the day. Like I would watch those movies, but I would never watch the cowboys and Indians movies because it just it just didn't really interest me. And I mean, it's just like this is a bunch of humans. I'm like, I don't care. want like all this cool fake shit because it just takes you to another place. And then like all these other movies and TV shows and stuff that we grew up as kids, there is like a moral compass that actually gives you like the type of tools to be able to either focus on not bring giving into your anger, how to, to like actually just properly live your life. You don't have to be like religious or anything like that, but you know, I think Australia or something like that where Jedi is actually a religion, but it's just like, know, it's just, it's just, gives you like, like the moral compass in order to be able to be a better person. speaker-0: I gotta move, I think. speaker-1: to actually, you know, the old story, you know, the looks are deceiving. So don't judge a people book by its cover. Cause you know, you got Yoda in there and it's an old guy and you got the emperor and it's like, kind of gives you like the tools to be able to like work on your own intuition to see, like when you see Vader, you know, he's a bad guy. You know what mean? When you see the Emperor, he may be frail and all that stuff, but deep down inside, like those yellow eyes, like this guy is the most evil person in the galaxy and he'll just fry you with lightning the very chance that he gets. And it was just like always the fact of watching these movies with my parents and playing, playing, you know, Star Wars with my buddies. was, it was just a huge, it is like a huge component. speaker-0: even really get into it to the video games and stuff like that. just everything that spun off. All's that family guy did a bunch of shit to add the toys, the video games. Yeah. Yeah. Everything it affected. It sent this ripple. Yeah. Society that stuff. Yeah. Go ahead. speaker-1: He's a, know, a baseball. Yeah. ⁓ There's ⁓ yeah, because it like, you know, like with Star Wars and Godzilla and Spider-Man was like my three the Holy Trinity for nerds But the fact is that when you have things like that, like every little boy wants to really grow up to be a hero Yeah, I mean you want to have like that like to do the right thing to be strong and it's it's just like it's speaker-0: That's great stuff. speaker-1: It's like you're bringing yourself up in the, right way. And I think the beauty about it is too, that there's such an allure to it that it's not programmed. It's almost like naturally ingrained in your instincts to like aspire to be a better person and not, you know, give into the dark side. And you just keep that as like, like thoughts in the back of your head. Like, Oh man, I, you can understand why Vade after a while, you can understand why Vader did all his stuff. But then after a while you realize that At the end of the day, the story's basically about him as almost like Lucifer. was like the chosen angel and he fell from grace. And then there's also his redemption. So it just links in with like Greek mythology, martial arts, and all that stuff. And it has all that same type of ideal of just like a moral compass of being just a better person. know, just be a goddamn hero. Like self-sacrifice, you know, that's the real... Energy or the main point is you can be like the best superhero, but if you're just like a selfish asshole, you're not a hero. You're just selfish and it just makes you to be a better person. That's why it's always affected me so much. And it's just like, know, enrich my childhood. It's like one of those great memories. That's deep. speaker-0: And that's really I wouldn't expect all that, But that's good stuff, man. Real good stuff. So I Troy want to thank you for coming on, Yeah, Troy, bad he can't make it, it's nice having you on, Well, we're going to get to him in a second. I'm sorry. Go ahead. ⁓ speaker-1: especially Jason too, I think I figure this shit out. Well, maybe we'll get the guys from Vietnam to call in or whatever. speaker-2: Thank speaker-0: And thanks for coming by, Jay. Thank you for having me. He's still on the exciting and new podcast.
