- 0:39Speaker 2: Saturday Well, I know, and I was foreshadowing an Olympic preview podcast.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Okay, that's what I'm going to do, I think, and I was foreshadowing an Olympic preview podcast oh okay, that's what I'm going to do, I think with Big Time Noel.
- 0:49Speaker 1: You go for the yeah.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Big Time Olympic Noel.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Big Time.
- 0:52Speaker 1: I mean it's a Big Time Olympics.
- 0:54Speaker 1: But yeah, there's a lot of new events I want to discuss.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Right Today's Wednesday, July 24th.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and we're going to practice.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Practice we got started again Day one, which is always a good time to see size improvements from one year to the next, and what happened in the offseason in terms of who was taking what and who did a good job of lifting and how much weight was gained or lost.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Yeah, and some indications on the line.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Some big boys.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Big guys, man, big boys, big men.
- 1:32Speaker 1: A couple of them were transfers.
- 1:36Speaker 1: They came in big Ferguson, richie Leonard.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I mean they're legit dude, I'm excited.
- 1:43Speaker 1: 30 pounds apiece at guard.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Well, that's just big.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Those are coming to new faces, but as terms of returning guys, what are some of the big Just go to the other side of the ball.
- 1:58Speaker 1: man.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Stay in the trenches, farmer Jackson.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Finally for a full season, hopefully.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Excited to see Jackson Two massive massive kids, dude, they're young men.
- 2:13Speaker 2: You really haven't seen him yet.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Right, you got the little exhibition game against.
- 2:19Speaker 2: UGA, Don't matter, Bo man.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yeah right, that's what it's called.
- 2:21Speaker 2: I think Keon turned them.
- 2:25Speaker 1: But I mean that's hard to judge much from that.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Other than Georgia is going to be really good this year.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 2:32Speaker 2: And there's no doubt of that.
- 2:35Speaker 1: It's not.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Anyway, this is a big-looking team.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Florida State is big, a lot of size, a lot of speed.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I mean, you know, they look like a good football team.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Well, today we're going to get into specifically positions.
- 2:49Speaker 2: We're going to look forward to all the positions as we get closer and closer to kickoff in Ireland against the Ramblin' Wreck, which is going to be a tough game with Haynes King at quarterback.
- 3:02Speaker 2: But today we're going to look at the running backs.
- 3:05Speaker 2: We're going to look at size and speed.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think it's.
- 3:10Speaker 2: I'm excited to kick it off with the running backs.
- 3:12Speaker 2: It's one of the strengths pre-season wise it of this team.
- 3:17Speaker 2: If you were to look at the roster, returning players added depth.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Yeah, new freshmen has it all.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I mean you knew you were going to lose Benson Mm-hmm, but you had a guy like Roy Dale Williams, mm-hmm, and really it kind of I'm not going to say it's not going to miss a beat.
- 3:42Speaker 1: You know, you got to see people produce before that, but man, you got depth there, mm beat.
- 3:45Speaker 1: You've got to see people produce before that, but man, you've got depth there.
- 3:48Speaker 2: You've got experience.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Yeah, you've got Toa Fili coming back to be the leader.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Right.
- 3:55Speaker 2: He's been there longer and he's opening that up when that's your returning guy.
- 4:01Speaker 2: That's a good thing.
- 4:02Speaker 2: I think it's in terms of who's going to be the starter it's going to depend on the formation that they're in.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I just assume that it's going to be Roy Dell Williams and Toa Philly kind of doing what Benson and Toa Philly.
- 4:18Speaker 2: There you go, kind of like a yeah, yeah, but the guys behind them are, I think, what you're going to see.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Have really that's.
- 4:28Speaker 1: The room has been elevated.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Right.
- 4:31Speaker 1: If you're going to call it a floor, the third and fourth string guys like those.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Keziah Holmes is looking really good.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Right Keziah Holmes Penn.
- 4:38Speaker 2: State, and then you have the new guy.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Cam Davis, who is?
- 4:42Speaker 2: we've talked about him a bunch.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Right now is the biggest running back on the team.
- 4:46Speaker 1: You know.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I think roy dale williams dropped down to about 215, maybe 220, and davis is around 225.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Uh, he's not built like a freshman, like an 18 year old, like you would expect a young running back like that.
- 5:02Speaker 1: That kid is a grown man, grown man body ready to go in big boy football.
- 5:08Speaker 1: So I would not be shocked at all if you see a lot of him Now.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I know that he had some health issues you know an injury in the spring, so I don't know how quickly they're going to be bringing him back into full.
- 5:23Speaker 1: You know full load type stuff, but that whole running back room is exciting.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Samuel Singleton, like fifth string, that's a kid dude, like he's got elite speed.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Micah Danzy coming in, that's another name that's been.
- 5:36Speaker 1: They've been talking about him already.
- 5:38Speaker 1: As you know, we may not be able to not give this kid some touches.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Yeah, his track speed.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Right, but he's a football player.
- 5:46Speaker 2: He's a football player With track speed.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Right, right, and there's a huge difference.
- 5:49Speaker 2: That's a big difference, yeah.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Hey, man, and you know, you can't, you haven't even mentioned Lucas.
- 5:56Speaker 1: That's why I was just about to bring him up.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Like you, can't forget about wild cards like that.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Like.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Jalen Lucas even his older brother.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Douglas Jaquai in the backfield who had to play running back.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I mean, he's a switchblade man, he's a.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Swiss Army knife that can do.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Yeah, but it, man, it's a really exciting room.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Norville has a history of having a lot of talent in his running back room, you know, and David Johnson's been a big part of that.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I would not be sad if 65% of the offense was running the ball.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Well, there's so many different formations.
- 6:34Speaker 2: You can run out of it, yeah, and like you can put those guys age back, I mean you can run multiples with those.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I mean hopefully with Toa.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Fili too, on the field.
- 6:45Speaker 2: I think he can play a lot of different positions.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Yeah, he's definitely shown the ability to Championship game.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Right Wildcat out of the backfield, wide receiver Right.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Especially with the lack of experience at wide receiver Right.
- 7:04Speaker 1: And that's a position.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I tell you what Hakeem Williams is, a kid you were talking about who's made gains and bulked up Like that kid.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I think he's lifted at 215 right now.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Well, this is a lot he looks like you want.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean, there's a picture of him squatting.
- 7:23Speaker 2: I mean, he's huge.
- 7:25Speaker 1: From the physicality standpoint.
- 7:26Speaker 2: This is here to show up receiver-wise and we're going to get into that.
- 7:29Speaker 2: But you also have guys like Lucas who are going to be in the receiver room preview.
- 7:35Speaker 2: But because they're wide receiver doesn't mean that they'll get the ball, just like a running back does.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Exactly, lucas is an exciting player.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I mean, you could do a whole segment just on him and the different things that you could do with really him and Ja'Kai Douglas.
- 7:55Speaker 2: It's unpredictability, and you have game breakers across the board Only one, I mean, I guess, in terms of running back.
- 8:05Speaker 2: I don't think you have anyone that has that home run ability like Benson did, or do they?
- 8:15Speaker 1: Well, I mean, I know that Toa Philly, I mean Danzy is a kid that if he gets in the open field you're not going to catch him.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Singleton is another kid that you're not catching him.
- 8:26Speaker 1: If he gets in the open field like a Benson, he'll run away from you.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Envision, though, of Benson and the size that he has.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I wouldn't rule out Roydale Williams having a similar type impact Again.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Like it's such a big thing to say they're going to come in and do what Trey Benson did.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Nobody expected Benson to immediately start balling out the way that he kind of did with his it just I mean Especially coming off the injuries.
- 8:57Speaker 1: The injuries to his knees, but he Still I think it'll be a strength to the offense is the running back.
- 9:05Speaker 2: I think that's what I'm saying and with a quarterback, that's big.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Well, and it's a quarterback, that's big, much bigger than Travis.
- 9:15Speaker 1: So you gain the size and the stability.
- 9:19Speaker 1: You lose the speed from the quarterback position.
- 9:23Speaker 1: I mean it's not even really a competition.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Dj is a few steps slower than Jordan Travis, but I don't think he's going to be shy about keeping it and getting tough yardage in the ground game when it's necessary.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Right, keep the chains moving.
- 9:40Speaker 1: So that's again.
- 9:42Speaker 1: He's another big part of that running game.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Last year the strength of the team, though, when you had Travis, was you had Keon Coleman, you had Johnny Wilson.
- 9:53Speaker 2: You know you have NFL receivers on the outside.
- 9:55Speaker 2: This year, I think your offensive line, your quarterback, your running backs are big.
- 10:01Speaker 2: They have depth.
- 10:03Speaker 2: It's time to mow the mow the rope, you know.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Plow the field, you know.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Let's let's be.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I want to see a physical shoulder you're going to lean on.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Is going to be the running game right offensive line instead of throwing to those two nfl.
- 10:15Speaker 2: You don't yeah and with the dj coming in, you want to make it easy.
- 10:19Speaker 2: So establish the run and then give him nice deep, easy throws, because I've seen him make those throws look beautiful oh yeah, man he can throw out an nfl.
- 10:30Speaker 2: He's got all the talent in the world right, and it's you know it what you know.
- 10:36Speaker 2: What will be done in terms of play calling, in terms of running backs, will determine a lot of that and, by the looks of it, the depth is going to see a physical type of team.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Yeah, it'll be a.
- 10:51Speaker 1: You know there'll still be issues of comfortability, most likely in the early games, in the early weeks, you know it's only natural, you know you can do it in practice so much.
- 11:00Speaker 1: But once the early weeks, you know it's only natural, you know you can do it in practice so much.
- 11:04Speaker 1: But once the games start it's a different kind of getting familiar with it.
- 11:07Speaker 1: But I just I think you have it when you lean on the running game, when you have enough talent there to do it.
- 11:15Speaker 1: It takes so much pressure off of DJ to think he has to do everything and come and somehow like keep Florida State going all by himself.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't want that.
- 11:28Speaker 1: No, you definitely don't want that.
- 11:31Speaker 2: You have to.
- 11:31Speaker 2: I think this team needs to be run oriented.
- 11:36Speaker 2: So we started off with the running backs.
- 11:38Speaker 2: We're going to get into all positions.
- 11:40Speaker 2: We'll stay.
- 11:42Speaker 2: I mean, is it Cam Davis?
- 11:44Speaker 2: Is that the guy you're most excited to see, just based on how much you follow the?
- 11:48Speaker 1: recruiting Both of the freshmen, both of the freshmen.
- 11:50Speaker 1: I'm excited for Cam Davis for a lot of reasons.
- 11:53Speaker 1: I mean, you know, first of all because he's basically just a grown man already, so you're adding that kind of player to your running back room.
- 12:07Speaker 1: But you know, he's a, he's a two-sport player.
- 12:09Speaker 1: you know I'm also excited for baseball, yeah, um.
- 12:13Speaker 1: But I think he also brings a a lot of maturity even though he's a freshman.
- 12:18Speaker 1: I mean, you're talking about a guy that's going to set the tone here in the next couple of seasons.
- 12:22Speaker 1: But I also Micah Danzy, though.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Man, that speed is legit.
- 12:27Speaker 1: You know you get a special athlete like that.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I mean you gotta.
- 12:32Speaker 1: You know it's been.
- 12:33Speaker 1: It's been a while since we had had somebody that had that kind of speed.
- 12:37Speaker 2: You know, like I kind of speed, you know, like I don't.
- 12:47Speaker 2: I don't want to put him up there with dalvin in terms of that home run like a van over talking about dalvin like a home run hitter, like when he's off, he's gone.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Is he that type of running back, though?
- 12:51Speaker 1: Is he that physical?
- 12:52Speaker 1: I'm not sure, man, I don't, I don't, you know.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Uh, he's like you said, he's a track guy he's kind of a long striker but he's at long distance speed.
- 12:58Speaker 1: So he gets faster the more he runs.
- 13:00Speaker 1: I would say he's closer to.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Carlos Williams.
- 13:03Speaker 2: When Carlos was at running back.
- 13:08Speaker 1: When he took that kick back in like two and a half seconds yeah.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Yeah, and that kind of speed, that's weapons.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Oh, of course man, Of course I like that you know that kind of speed.
- 13:21Speaker 2: You just cannot play it Right.
- 13:23Speaker 2: You can't not.
- 13:28Speaker 1: At the very least it's all-American track speed.
- 13:30Speaker 1: He's somebody that could probably if he focused just on track.
- 13:34Speaker 1: You were talking about a guy that's messing with the Olympics, but he's a football player.
- 13:39Speaker 1: He comes from Florida High.
- 13:41Speaker 1: He's a football player.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I'm excited for both of those young guys.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Samuel Singleton gets overlooked because, you know, people kind of forget that we signed a running back in his class.
- 13:54Speaker 1: But he's also somebody that has a lot of ability.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 13:58Speaker 1: We'll see if he can carve out a spot for himself, but it's a stacked room.
- 14:02Speaker 1: There's a lot of A lot to be excited about.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Yeah Well, all right, such a slow time.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Yeah, but it started, man, what 31 days until the game, right, something like that.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Help me, help you.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Well, you're hearing that noise, You're hearing it.
- 14:32Speaker 2: There was another golf major and this time it was the last one of the year.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Used to be the PGA but now it's the Open Championship and it was kind of boring.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Finish and what was set up to be a loaded leaderboard after a third round, 75 from Lowry allowed everyone kind of back into it.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Kind of back into it, and Xander Shroffley is your champion golfer of the year, with a 65 on Sunday to match the 65 he shot on Sunday at the PGA earlier this year.
- 15:20Speaker 2: An historic season for Xander.
- 15:23Speaker 2: He couldn't come to a golfer that's deserved it more, who has been there in the last five years like right in every single major, Kept his head down and four years ago won the dadgum gold medal in Japan.
- 15:39Speaker 2: He's going to be at the top of his game as he heads to Paris this coming week as the champion golfer of the year.
- 15:50Speaker 2: So cheers to Xander and to his caddy Austin and his dad and Xander Schraff, the team for the hard work and the perseverance.
- 16:04Speaker 2: That Schrappel team for the hard work and the perseverance it is shining through.
- 16:08Speaker 2: It's not really, you know, it doesn't say much, but I've become a big fan of Zander Schrappel.
- 16:12Speaker 2: How could you not?
- 16:18Speaker 2: There was, you know, some good efforts, but at the end of the day had a two shot victory over Justin Rose and the Gator Billy Horschel finished second he was already out of it.
- 16:41Speaker 2: That's your last major Xander with two majors in the year the Open In Scotland, rottrum, it was a good Open, british Open, all right, americans still call it, but it was the.
- 17:01Speaker 2: And there you have it.
- 17:02Speaker 2: That is your golf for the major season of 2024 I call it the american open us open.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Now we have olympic golf that we'll get into that when we preview, yeah which is which is really cool.
- 17:16Speaker 2: It's this third olympics of the olympic golf.
- 17:20Speaker 2: You have justin rose and xander shoffley as your only two gold medalists.
- 17:26Speaker 2: It's gonna be, hopefully, one of the most coveted.
- 17:30Speaker 2: You know things to gather in golf.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Yeah, because it's the most exclusive event, I mean.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Now, the only downside of that is you can only have four guys per country, so you're not getting the best field possible.
- 17:46Speaker 2: But you know it's the Olympics that's the way it goes, man.
- 17:56Speaker 1: We had to go.
- 17:57Speaker 1: I don't know if I'd say it's not the best field possible.
- 18:02Speaker 2: We had to get on out of here.
- 18:02Speaker 2: I mean it's still hopefully.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I mean, when it initially came out, you had some golfers not even interested in playing.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Okay, and I just in terms of golf, you know there's a schedule out and the majors will be done.
- 18:19Speaker 2: So every four years you'll have this dangling thing and you talk about athletes and to be a part of something, and we'll get into this on the next show as LeBron's going to be the flag bearer for the entire Olympic team To be a part of that.
- 18:35Speaker 2: In a sport like golf, I know it can be kind of a game where you play by yourself, but I think that's going to be something that holds and hopefully is the pinnacle of the sport, maybe in the future.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Right?
- 18:49Speaker 1: Well, you play by yourself, but you still represent.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Yeah, you represent a team and I love Ryder.
- 18:55Speaker 1: A lot of golfers did that played in college.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Right and I think, yeah, I think Olympic golf should have been there the whole time.
- 19:03Speaker 2: It was good to see it come back.
- 19:05Speaker 2: There's a lot of new sports that are going to be introduced this year.
- 19:10Speaker 2: We're going to get into the Olympic preview later in the week.
- 19:13Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to that.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Who the break dancers are, who the great break dancers are how about Mike and Jason?
- 19:22Speaker 2: No, no, dancers are who the great break dancers are.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Am I mic-jazzing?
- 19:27Speaker 2: No, what's the one sport you're most excited about?
- 19:31Speaker 2: To watch this Olympics.
- 19:33Speaker 1: The Olympics.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Yeah, oh man, I mean, I like watching the track sprints.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Yeah, track's always good and you got gymnastics as well yeah, you know it's moan vials.
- 19:48Speaker 2: You know the sea wins all this.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Who see the fastest is?
- 19:54Speaker 2: You know the 100 meters swimming yeah swimming.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Yeah, you got your classic events.
- 20:01Speaker 2: And you got skateboarding, you got breakdancing, you got basketball Volleyball Breakdancing yeah.
- 20:10Speaker 1: That actually might be kind of cool.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Badminton, badminton yeah.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Ping pong.
- 20:17Speaker 1: They're coming up with these sports now no man.
- 20:20Speaker 2: It's always been there.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Right, but there's like been there.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Right, but there's all kinds of channels, different things.
- 20:26Speaker 2: We'll get into it next time.
- 20:28Speaker 2: It's right here on the North Florida Sports Network.
