Why the Epstein Scandal Should Haunt Todd Blanche’s AG Nomination (Part 2) · The Epstein Chronicles

• 0:00
Speaker 1: What's up everyone and welcome to another episode of the
• 0:03
Speaker 1: Epstein Chronicles. In this episode we're going to pick up
• 0:06
Speaker 1: where we left off, talking about why Todd Blanche is
• 0:10
Speaker 1: the wrong man for the Attorney General's job. What makes
• 0:14
Speaker 1: Blanche's handling so egregious is not just the legal posture,
• 0:19
Speaker 1: it's the moral posture. It's the posture of a government
• 0:22
Speaker 1: that still has not learned a damn thing from the
• 0:25
Speaker 1: rage surrounding the case. It's the posture of officials who
• 0:29
Speaker 1: seem more offended by demands for transparency than by the
• 0:32
Speaker 1: decades of failure that made those demands necessary. It's the
• 0:36
Speaker 1: posture of a Justice Department that wants credit for caring
• 0:39
Speaker 1: about survivors while continuing to behave like the full truth
• 0:43
Speaker 1: is too dangerous for public consumption. Dangerous to whom? That's
• 0:47
Speaker 1: the question. Dangerous to survivors or dangerous to powerful people
• 0:52
Speaker 1: who have spent years praying the file cabinets stay shut.
• 0:55
Speaker 1: dangerous to the public, or dangerous to the institutions that
• 0:59
Speaker 1: would rather endure suspicion forever than face exposure once. Every
• 1:04
Speaker 1: time Blanche's DOJ resists, delays, or limits disclosure, that question
• 1:09
Speaker 1: gets louder. And look, that question matters, because this is
• 1:13
Speaker 1: bigger than Jeffrey Epstein alone. He wasn't some creep operating
• 1:17
Speaker 1: out of a basement with no friends and no infrastructure.
• 1:20
Speaker 1: Bro is a social climber with money, access, and protection.
• 1:25
Speaker 1: He had lawyers who knew how to squeeze the system.
• 1:28
Speaker 1: He had bankers who looked the other way until looking
• 1:31
Speaker 1: the other way became impossible. He had politicians willing to
• 1:35
Speaker 1: take meetings, donors willing to mingle, academics willing to cash
• 1:39
Speaker 1: those checks, and institutions willing to bask in the glow
• 1:43
Speaker 1: of his money. He had homes, islands, planes, staff, schedulers, assistants, fixers,
• 1:49
Speaker 1: an entire environment that made his bitch-ass crimes possible. That's
• 1:54
Speaker 1: why all these files matter. why the names matter. That's
• 1:57
Speaker 1: why the communications matter. And that is why the government's
• 2:00
Speaker 1: continued secrecy is so poisonous. Because every hidden page sends
• 2:05
Speaker 1: a message. It tells survivors and the rest of us,
• 2:08
Speaker 1: even now, after all of this, somebody else matters more.
• 2:13
Speaker 1: It tells the public that there are facts that are
• 2:15
Speaker 1: not allowed to be known because the wrong people might
• 2:18
Speaker 1: be damaged by them. It tells every future predator with
• 2:22
Speaker 1: money that the system can be bent and delayed, negotiated,
• 2:26
Speaker 1: and smothered, if you have the right lawyers and the
• 2:29
Speaker 1: right friends. It tells every ordinary American, you and me,
• 2:34
Speaker 1: that justice is just a slogan until it collides with power.
• 2:37
Speaker 1: And when Todd Blanche presides over that posture, he can't
• 2:41
Speaker 1: call himself a neutral steward of the law. He becomes
• 2:44
Speaker 1: part of the message. He becomes part of the insult.
• 2:47
Speaker 1: He becomes part of the reason people no longer believe
• 2:50
Speaker 1: a word that comes out of that building. And this
• 2:55
Speaker 1: seems to be the part that DC just never seems
• 2:57
Speaker 1: to understand. Or maybe it understands perfectly, and they just
• 3:01
Speaker 1: don't care. People are not angry because they're conspiracy-addled morons.
• 3:05
Speaker 1: They're angry because the official story has earned disbelief. They're
• 3:10
Speaker 1: angry because the government keeps behaving in ways that make
• 3:13
Speaker 1: suspicion rational. They're angry because the same agencies that demand
• 3:18
Speaker 1: trust have spent decades making trust impossible. They're angry because
• 3:23
Speaker 1: the Epstein case exposed something hideous about elite America, and
• 3:27
Speaker 1: every institution connected to it has tried to manage the
• 3:30
Speaker 1: blast radius instead of telling us the truth. Folks, that's
• 3:34
Speaker 1: not paranoia. That's simple pattern recognition. And Blanche's handling of
• 3:40
Speaker 1: this matter fits the pattern so neatly that it practically
• 3:43
Speaker 1: glows in the dark. So no, he should not be rewarded.
• 3:48
Speaker 1: He shouldn't be elevated. He should not be treated like
• 3:50
Speaker 1: some sober institutionalist ready to restore dignity to the Department
• 3:54
Speaker 1: of Justice. Restore dignity? From what planet? The DOJ doesn't
• 4:00
Speaker 1: restore dignity by hiding behind legal technicalities in the Epstein matter.
• 4:05
Speaker 1: It restores dignity by opening the files, naming those failures,
• 4:09
Speaker 1: protecting the victims, exposing the enablers, and admitting where the
• 4:13
Speaker 1: government itself failed. It restores dignity by proving that the
• 4:17
Speaker 1: powerful do not get a special lane. It restores dignity
• 4:21
Speaker 1: by showing that court orders are not suggestions. It restores
• 4:26
Speaker 1: dignity by making the public believe, maybe for five damn minutes,
• 4:31
Speaker 1: that the law is not just a weapon pointed downward.
• 4:34
Speaker 1: Blanche has done none of that. Instead, he's become another
• 4:38
Speaker 1: chapter in the long, exhausting book of official evasion. The
• 4:42
Speaker 1: names change. The suits change. The letterhead changes. The excuses
• 4:46
Speaker 1: get polished. But the result remains the same. Epstein's dead.
• 4:51
Speaker 1: Maxwell's in prison. Some settlements have been paid. Some hearings
• 4:54
Speaker 1: have been held. Some documents have dripped out. Some officials
• 4:58
Speaker 1: have made speeches. And yet the deepest questions remain buried
• 5:02
Speaker 1: under layers of institutional self-protection. Who was protected? Who was ignored?
• 5:07
Speaker 1: Who was warned? Who intervened? Who looked away? Who had
• 5:11
Speaker 1: the power to act? and chose not to. The public
• 5:15
Speaker 1: keeps asking, and the government keeps acting like answering, would
• 5:18
Speaker 1: be a greater crime than the original failure itself. And
• 5:22
Speaker 1: that is why Blanche should be investigated, not installed. And
• 5:26
Speaker 1: not some toothless internal review written in the dead language
• 5:29
Speaker 1: of bureaucracy. Not with a whitewash memo that concludes everyone
• 5:34
Speaker 1: acted appropriately based on the information available at the time.
• 5:38
Speaker 1: The country has had enough of that garbage. There should
• 5:40
Speaker 1: be real investigations into the handling of Epstein-related records under
• 5:45
Speaker 1: his authority. There should be sworn testimony. There should be
• 5:48
Speaker 1: document preservation orders. There should be timelines. There should be
• 5:52
Speaker 1: names attached to decisions. There should be consequences if court
• 5:56
Speaker 1: orders were treated like obstacles instead of obligations. It should
• 6:03
Speaker 1: apply especially to those who wield power. If a citizen
• 6:06
Speaker 1: ignores a lawful demand, the government knows exactly how to respond.
• 6:10
Speaker 1: If some ordinary person, with no connections, destroys evidence, delays production,
• 6:15
Speaker 1: conceals records, or plays games with a court, the hammer
• 6:18
Speaker 1: comes down fast. But when the issue is the government itself,
• 6:22
Speaker 1: suddenly everyone gets very patient, very nuanced, very careful, and
• 6:26
Speaker 1: very allergic to consequences. And that double standard, my friends,
• 6:30
Speaker 1: is poison. It's killing public faith in the justice system.
• 6:35
Speaker 1: And Todd Blanche, whether he likes it or not, is
• 6:37
Speaker 1: now the face of that poison in the Epstein matter.
• 6:41
Speaker 1: And the obscene thing is that the survivors have already
• 6:44
Speaker 1: paid the highest price. They were failed when Epstein was
• 6:47
Speaker 1: first allowed to operate. They were failed when his crimes
• 6:50
Speaker 1: were minimized. They were failed when the non-prosecution agreement was
• 6:54
Speaker 1: cut behind their backs. They were failed when powerful people
• 6:58
Speaker 1: around them were not subjected to the full, merciless scrutiny
• 7:01
Speaker 1: that a real trafficking investigation demands. They were failed when
• 7:05
Speaker 1: evidence vanished, records stay sealed, and the public was handed half-truths.
• 7:11
Speaker 1: And now, years later, they're forced to watch the same
• 7:13
Speaker 1: government that failed them posture as the careful guardian of justice? Yo,
• 7:19
Speaker 1: there is a specialized cruelty in that. There is a
• 7:22
Speaker 1: deep grinding cruelty in making survivors beg for truth from
• 7:26
Speaker 1: the very institutions that helped bury it. And Blanche's nomination
• 7:31
Speaker 1: or possible elevation should be viewed through that lens. Not
• 7:35
Speaker 1: through the lens of party. Not through the lens of resume.
• 7:37
Speaker 1: Not through the lens of who likes him. who work
• 7:39
Speaker 1: with him, who praises his legal mind, or who thinks
• 7:43
Speaker 1: he looks good on paper. Through the lens of the
• 7:45
Speaker 1: women and girls who were told again and again that
• 7:48
Speaker 1: the system would handle it, only to watch the system
• 7:51
Speaker 1: handle them instead. Through the lens of a public that
• 7:55
Speaker 1: has been lied to, managed, and condescended for years. Through
• 8:00
Speaker 1: the lens of a Justice Department that still cannot seem
• 8:02
Speaker 1: to tell the truth about its own failures without being
• 8:05
Speaker 1: dragged by litigation and public rage. In that lens, Blanche
• 8:10
Speaker 1: does not look like a reformer. He looks like a continuation.
• 8:14
Speaker 1: And in my opinion, continuation is unacceptable. The Epstein matter
• 8:20
Speaker 1: demands rupture. It demands someone willing to break the habits
• 8:24
Speaker 1: of secrecy that have protected powerful people for far too long.
• 8:28
Speaker 1: It demands an attorney general who would rather anger every billionaire, banker, prince, professor, politician, fixer,
• 8:36
Speaker 1: and former official connected to Epstein than then insult the
• 8:39
Speaker 1: public one more time. It demands someone who understands that
• 8:42
Speaker 1: institutional reputation is not worth the truth. It demands someone
• 8:48
Speaker 1: who does not flinch when the names get ugly. It
• 8:50
Speaker 1: demands someone who sees survivors as human beings, not public
• 8:54
Speaker 1: relations props. It demands someone willing to burn down the
• 8:58
Speaker 1: culture of elite immunity. And Todd Blanche has not shown
• 9:03
Speaker 1: us that he is that person. Instead, what we're seeing
• 9:06
Speaker 1: is the same disgusting ritual. The powerful make a mess.
• 9:10
Speaker 1: The institutions hide the mess. The public demands answers. The
• 9:14
Speaker 1: lawyers slow it down. The officials cite process. The committees posture.
• 9:19
Speaker 1: The headlines fade. The survivors are expected to keep bleeding politely.
• 9:24
Speaker 1: And then one of the men standing near the center
• 9:26
Speaker 1: of the latest obstruction gets treated like he belongs at
• 9:29
Speaker 1: the top of the Justice Department? It's almost too perfect
• 9:33
Speaker 1: as a symbol of American decay. Not because it's shocking.
• 9:38
Speaker 1: but because it's not shocking at all. And for me,
• 9:41
Speaker 1: that's the worst of it. We have become so used
• 9:44
Speaker 1: to this kind of insult that people delivering it barely
• 9:47
Speaker 1: bother to hide their smirks. Todd Blanche should not be
• 9:51
Speaker 1: leading the Department of Justice. He should not be anywhere
• 9:54
Speaker 1: near the levers of power in an Epstein-related investigation. He
• 9:58
Speaker 1: should be compelled to explain why the DOJ continues to
• 10:01
Speaker 1: fight transparency in a case where secrecy has already done
• 10:05
Speaker 1: catastrophic damage. He should be questioned about every decision, every delay,
• 10:11
Speaker 1: every withheld document, every redaction, and every excuse offered to
• 10:15
Speaker 1: the courts and the public. He should be held to
• 10:18
Speaker 1: the same standard that the Department of Justice would impose
• 10:22
Speaker 1: on any powerless citizen standing in the way of a
• 10:24
Speaker 1: lawful process. Anything less is another confession that America has
• 10:30
Speaker 1: one system for the connected and another one for everyone else.
• 10:34
Speaker 1: And for a lot of people, I think that that's
• 10:36
Speaker 1: the heart of the outrage. This is why people are furious.
• 10:41
Speaker 1: And that's why rewarding Blanche now would not just be
• 10:44
Speaker 1: bad judgment. It would be a national disgrace. Look, at
• 10:48
Speaker 1: some point, the country has to stop pretending these people
• 10:51
Speaker 1: are simply making mistakes. Mistakes happen once, maybe twice. What
• 10:55
Speaker 1: has happened in the Epstein matter is a pattern. And
• 10:59
Speaker 1: patterns reveal intent, or at a minimum, institutional priorities. And
• 11:04
Speaker 1: the priority has never been the full truth. The priority
• 11:07
Speaker 1: has been damage control. The priority has been protecting the department,
• 11:11
Speaker 1: protecting the names, protecting the network, protecting the reputations, protecting
• 11:16
Speaker 1: the comfortable lie. that this was all handled as well
• 11:19
Speaker 1: as it could have been. Todd Blanche's handling of this
• 11:22
Speaker 1: matter belongs inside that pattern, and if a man who
• 11:26
Speaker 1: helps preserve that pattern can be elevated to Attorney General,
• 11:29
Speaker 1: then the message from Washington is brutally clear. The cover-up
• 11:34
Speaker 1: culture is not being punished, it's being promoted. All the
• 11:39
Speaker 1: information that goes with this episode can be found in
• 11:42
  Speaker 1: the description box.
