- 0:02Speaker 1: You could test your team against you know, one of
- 0:05Speaker 1: the best programs, uh, you know the last thirty years
- 0:08Speaker 1: in college basketball, and uh, you know it's just it's
- 0:11Speaker 1: gonna be very beneficial. They're gonna expose some things. I'm
- 0:14Speaker 1: I'm obviously a little worried about the freshman center versus
- 0:18Speaker 1: the that front court just and and what that's gonna
- 0:22Speaker 1: look like. Uh, but great, it's gonna be a great
- 0:24Speaker 1: experience for for Eric and the.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Group's terrace tracking to you ready for the opener or
- 0:30Speaker 2: how they.
- 0:30Speaker 1: He looks good. I mean, you know, we we we've
- 0:32Speaker 1: you kind of been down this road with him. You know,
- 0:35Speaker 1: we we we hit a we got to this point,
- 0:38Speaker 1: then we we hit a set back again. So yeah,
- 0:40Speaker 1: I mean we we need 'em uh obviously healthy, you know,
- 0:45Speaker 1: for the long season, but also you need him healthy.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Uh you know, you just don't want to the hamstring
- 0:51Speaker 1: to linger. But yeah, I mean, we w know he
- 0:53Speaker 1: sh should be able to get him back on the court,
- 0:55Speaker 1: you know soon in terms of you know, he's trying
- 0:57Speaker 1: to earn hi minutes. What has Furthy shown you good
- 1:00Speaker 1: offensive player just good size, like good really you know,
- 1:04Speaker 1: a guy that can make threes gotta can pass the ball.
- 1:06Speaker 1: He's got to take better care of the ball. You
- 1:09Speaker 1: know he's turned it over some. But yeah, I think
- 1:14Speaker 1: the questions are about the you know, just can he
- 1:16Speaker 1: can he guard well enough as a freshman, uh, with
- 1:19Speaker 1: his experience level. You just guard well enough. You know
- 1:23Speaker 1: that that we can play him because we want to
- 1:25Speaker 1: play him. And h he'll take care of the ball,
- 1:28Speaker 1: don't turn it over, and and just guard well enough.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I think Silas being back in there is gonna help
- 1:34Speaker 1: the defense obviously. You know Tarifs being back in there,
- 1:37Speaker 1: eventually he's gonna really help the defense. Coach, how were you.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Handing the adversity so this early in the season with
- 1:43Speaker 3: the injuries and so forth?
- 1:44Speaker 1: Pretty you know, we just look back to twenty four,
- 1:49Speaker 1: I think, and we dealt with uh. We dealt with
- 1:51Speaker 1: losing Donovan during the year. We dealt with losing staff
- 1:54Speaker 1: in a very similar kind of timeline to Braylan in
- 1:57Speaker 1: a lot of ways. So you know, we we dealt
- 2:00Speaker 1: with it before and it work out good. Do you
- 2:02Speaker 1: try to script anything as far as combinate lineup combos
- 2:06Speaker 1: and trying to run certain offense offenses at certain times?
- 2:11Speaker 1: I would just try to just try to make sure
- 2:13Speaker 1: that you get p enough players enough minutes and get
- 2:17Speaker 1: players in early enough so that they have a chance to,
- 2:20Speaker 1: uh to show you that they deserve to play. So
- 2:23Speaker 1: I just think it's more about getting enough guys early
- 2:26Speaker 1: minutes with especially with with with brailin out, like you know,
- 2:31Speaker 1: who's who, who's who's who's gonna start, and then who
- 2:37Speaker 1: deserves you know, you know, uh, real bench minutes. Just
- 2:41Speaker 1: that they just landed awkwardly that kind of thing. Yeah,
- 2:44Speaker 1: I mean the other guy who's got some of that
- 2:46Speaker 1: like Indiana and Midwest. I don't know, it's like the
- 2:49Speaker 1: air or the dairy or whatever. Uh cause we you know,
- 2:53Speaker 1: he was fortunate. We were fortunate, you know, we we
- 2:55Speaker 1: we were very nervous that it could have been you know,
- 2:59Speaker 1: far worse for him. So uh, you know, we we
- 3:03Speaker 1: count our blessings and when we thank God, you know,
- 3:07Speaker 1: we we thank God that we that he and we
- 3:12Speaker 1: you know that that the injury is what it is.
- 3:15Speaker 2: You think, a high ankle thing like no, no, different
- 3:19Speaker 2: than le yeah, different than Liam, but still you know
- 3:24Speaker 2: it's like he's he's a tough kid and and uh
- 3:27Speaker 2: you know, according to his dad, he's a fast healer.
- 3:31Speaker 3: You just that little off the path. But d do
- 3:34Speaker 3: you come into this? Can you scout in Michigan State
- 3:36Speaker 3: as if it was a like a regular season game
- 3:38Speaker 3: or is this tomorrow really more about you than Yeah?
- 3:40Speaker 1: I don't think there's much, uh of of that type
- 3:43Speaker 1: of mentality preparation wise. I think you do a link
- 3:46Speaker 1: a little bit. We did a little bit with b
- 3:48Speaker 1: C because you are trying to get your players to
- 3:50Speaker 1: be able to absorb more information, uh the way you're
- 3:53Speaker 1: gonna have to with New Haven and and uh in
- 3:56Speaker 1: the regular season games. But I think you're still I uh,
- 4:00Speaker 1: anytime you could go out there, you you wanna try
- 4:03Speaker 1: to win your You're you're coaching you know, you're coaching
- 4:06Speaker 1: your guys hard cause you you you know, you wanna
- 4:08Speaker 1: win the next possession. You wanna you know, win the exhibition.
- 4:11Speaker 1: But I think that you know, your mindset right now
- 4:14Speaker 1: is like learn as much as you can about your
- 4:17Speaker 1: team and just try to figure out like what your
- 4:21Speaker 1: rotation's gonna look like, and just hope that you could
- 4:24Speaker 1: try to, you know, learn about some vulnerabilities and weaknesses
- 4:28Speaker 1: that get exposed when you play Michigan State.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Were you guys you guys have recruited Car pretty heavily
- 4:33Speaker 3: right here or you you coming Car.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean i'd I i'd you know, Gricola and
- 4:38Speaker 1: in Car. And you know that they're uh you know
- 4:43Speaker 1: the the I I think they're you know, fears or whatever,
- 4:45Speaker 1: you know, veteran veteran team uh you know, or at
- 4:50Speaker 1: least veteran players that you know. Watching them last year,
- 4:52Speaker 1: I mean they they uh if they made some shots
- 4:55Speaker 1: in that uh you know, was that e leade Acha
- 4:58Speaker 1: was that the elaite eid was at this se sixteen?
- 5:01Speaker 1: I think it was sixty there was to say. I
- 5:03Speaker 1: mean they you know, they rebound so well, and I
- 5:07Speaker 1: mean that they made any shots, reasonable amount of open
- 5:11Speaker 1: shots last year, they would have been in the Elite
- 5:13Speaker 1: eight or in the final four. I know that all
- 5:16Speaker 1: burned game. I mean they had so many good opportunities.
- 5:20Speaker 1: So you know there the offense are rebounding, their transition offense,
- 5:24Speaker 1: the physicality, you know, like a lot of the stuff
- 5:27Speaker 1: that we're we've got to answer questions about our team.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Toughness is why it was such a there's a great
- 5:32Speaker 1: scrimmage for us or exhibitions are what have Jalen and
- 5:36Speaker 1: Jayden shown you in terms of progress, I think this
- 5:40Speaker 1: is what we're you know, I think we see the
- 5:42Speaker 1: flies on you now. We've been trying to get this
- 5:46Speaker 1: flu Paul. The fly is now and here. We've been
- 5:49Speaker 1: trying to get this fly in this building. And I
- 5:51Speaker 1: think it was from the renovations. Place looks good though,
- 5:56Speaker 1: A nice job they cleaned up the It looks so
- 6:00Speaker 1: much nicer in the arena. I think people are going
- 6:01Speaker 1: to really enjoy it that that haven't been in here, right, Paul, Yes,
- 6:05Speaker 1: with you know, with a lot of the players, I
- 6:07Speaker 1: think anymore. I think I think, you know, as Junior's room,
- 6:11Speaker 1: and see these guys just go out and be assertive,
- 6:14Speaker 1: you know, I want to see assertive men out there
- 6:17Speaker 1: are just men that are assertive with their actions and
- 6:20Speaker 1: the way they carry themselves, and you know, assertive like
- 6:24Speaker 1: Yukon men should be assertive. Do the renovations mean anything
- 6:28Speaker 1: to the team? I mean, is there just a different
- 6:30Speaker 1: mindset coming in or the locker room? I mean, I
- 6:34Speaker 1: don't know what the I mean, it's it's it's it's
- 6:38Speaker 1: a better space. I mean, I don't know, I mean,
- 6:42Speaker 1: I don't I don't know. It's a Rocky three. You know,
- 6:46Speaker 1: when he moved into the nice house, fucking it went
- 6:48Speaker 1: toward the ship, so you know, and then he went
- 6:51Speaker 1: to I guess that was Detroit, you know, with when
- 6:55Speaker 1: he's sort of training with Apollo. You know, he's not
- 6:58Speaker 1: knocked out by Clever Lang because she was in the
- 7:02Speaker 1: big house and he got soft and weak, and then
- 7:05Speaker 1: Los Angeles he went out to l A and then
- 7:08Speaker 1: he got he got grimy, and he you know, he
- 7:10Speaker 1: got back to his roots as and then yeah, so
- 7:14Speaker 1: I try not to think about it aside from the win.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Are there other metrics or other things that you want
- 7:20Speaker 1: to see at the end of this game tomorrow? Yeah,
- 7:23Speaker 1: I think you're mostly looking for like individual players to
- 7:28Speaker 1: you know, to you know, to do certain things, you know,
- 7:33Speaker 1: and like you're looking for certain guys to step up.
- 7:35Speaker 1: You're looking for even beyond the like analytics for the result.
- 7:39Speaker 1: You're looking for some physicality, you know, You're you're looking
- 7:44Speaker 1: to see what some combinations players are going to look like.
- 7:47Speaker 1: And then you're making final decisions on like the you know,
- 7:49Speaker 1: game one, like who's gonna you know, granted Tarris is
- 7:52Speaker 1: back and you know, and then what you like, who's
- 7:55Speaker 1: going to be in that eight or nine guys that's
- 7:57Speaker 1: actually going to play. Even with Preland out, it's still
- 8:00Speaker 1: proud have to get under court. Do your planers still
- 8:03Speaker 1: feel that it's a it's a big deal to actually
- 8:05Speaker 1: start or are they more concerned with finishing under your
- 8:08Speaker 1: I think most guys, I think they, you know, I
- 8:11Speaker 1: think most players, uh you know that wanna start, you know.
- 8:16Speaker 1: But for for us, you know, for a player like
- 8:19Speaker 1: Yukon and a few few play like starter minutes, if
- 8:22Speaker 1: you're the sixth starter or you're you know, in the
- 8:25Speaker 1: rotation at Yukon, that's uh, yeah, it's a pretty big deal.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Yeah, and I'm sorry if you've commented on this elsewhere,
- 8:32Speaker 4: But the same with the Mouville getting a player from Julie. Yeah,
- 8:36Speaker 4: y do you see yourself going into that market that
- 8:39Speaker 4: becoming a a thing for you or is it something
- 8:42Speaker 4: that maybe you wanna draw the line somewhere in sass
- 8:44Speaker 4: not where.
- 8:45Speaker 1: We're gonna go. Yeah, why the teams are I mean,
- 8:47Speaker 1: I you know, uh I the trolls came after me
- 8:49Speaker 1: when my when I uh s. Obviously I love the coach,
- 8:53Speaker 1: as I said, I love what you know, Coach Painter said,
- 8:56Speaker 1: relative to the issues H that involve college basket ball.
- 9:00Speaker 1: They they know a lot more about this subject matter
- 9:04Speaker 1: than I do. They've been coaching college for a long time.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I spent a majority of my career as a high
- 9:08Speaker 1: school coach, right so at least before I became a
- 9:12Speaker 1: head coach or H. So, you know, I loved what
- 9:18Speaker 1: they both said. You know, the the It was not
- 9:23Speaker 1: a criticism of Louisville too. I mean, you know, you
- 9:27Speaker 1: we all want to win. We have a sense of
- 9:29Speaker 1: responsibility to our university and our fan base and and
- 9:33Speaker 1: everyone involved with you, whether it's Louisville or Yukon, to
- 9:37Speaker 1: put the absolute best team you could put on the
- 9:39Speaker 1: court relative to to what the rules can say you
- 9:42Speaker 1: can do. The problem with our sport is that just
- 9:44Speaker 1: we're not just we're not very aware of what the
- 9:49Speaker 1: rules are in certain instances like that. You know, I
- 9:54Speaker 1: don't think you can make the connection between you know,
- 9:57Speaker 1: international players and and the high scho player. A high
- 10:00Speaker 1: school player that chose to forego college as an option
- 10:05Speaker 1: and go to the G League and then circling back
- 10:09Speaker 1: to it when you passed on that option in high
- 10:12Speaker 1: school is different than just an international college player there
- 10:17Speaker 1: is no college basketball in Europe or in South America.
- 10:22Speaker 1: There's not a version of this for them to aspire
- 10:27Speaker 1: to play at. So for them, they're in a system
- 10:29Speaker 1: where as young players you join these pro club teams
- 10:34Speaker 1: and it's not really so that's not comparing them to
- 10:37Speaker 1: foreign players that are now. You know, if there's a
- 10:41Speaker 1: foreign player that goes to the G League and then
- 10:43Speaker 1: tries to go play college basketball, obviously you know that
- 10:48Speaker 1: would make it an apples to apples comparison. But to
- 10:50Speaker 1: compare foreign players to G League players, I think it
- 10:55Speaker 1: is not the same thing. So I just think, you know,
- 11:00Speaker 1: what are the rules? You know, I think a lot
- 11:02Speaker 1: of us didn't have no idea that that was even
- 11:04Speaker 1: a possibility. You never say never, because we do have
- 11:08Speaker 1: a uh a responsibility to the university and to a
- 11:12Speaker 1: lot of people to put and with the climate of
- 11:15Speaker 1: coaching now in college sports, the way they're getting coaches,
- 11:19Speaker 1: you know, where it's become more like professional sports, the
- 11:21Speaker 1: way coaches are being let go UH in season now
- 11:26Speaker 1: with UH own a lot of money in a lot
- 11:28Speaker 1: of years. So that's a whole other.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Thing though right right now, why say cause it doesn't
- 11:35Speaker 2: this mean now that if somebody goes into the draft
- 11:37Speaker 2: doesn't doesn't get the money he's looking for, he can
- 11:41Speaker 2: ain't come back.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Right because I I I mean, it's up in the
- 11:45Speaker 1: G League. I want to come back. Yeah, I mean,
- 11:47Speaker 1: I'm I'm I I I guess I'll I'll let coaches.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Oh no, you know that that I don't know, like hawk,
- 12:00Speaker 1: you know, I don't, I don't it does. I just
- 12:07Speaker 1: it's a great sport, you know, it's uh, you know,
- 12:09Speaker 1: college basketball is awesome. We just I think, uh, I
- 12:13Speaker 1: just my biggest concern is, like the product in college
- 12:16Speaker 1: it's it's uh, it's the front of the jersey. It's
- 12:19Speaker 1: March madness, and it's and it's having the in the
- 12:22Speaker 1: fans in college basketball, Like that is the that's the product.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Like that's what really matters. March madness is what drives
- 12:31Speaker 1: college basketball. It's the front of the jersey, the way
- 12:34Speaker 1: our fans, the fans love the team in college. You know,
- 12:38Speaker 1: there's a lot of NBA fans that love an individual
- 12:40Speaker 1: player and and and and become an amateur an individual player.
- 12:44Speaker 1: The fans love the front of the jersey in college
- 12:47Speaker 1: they almost forget who was on the team. Two three,
- 12:50Speaker 1: and they're so engrossed in their team. They just love
- 12:53Speaker 1: their team. The characters change, but they love their team.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I just don't want to do anything that's gonna Uh,
- 12:59Speaker 1: we're gonna start losing our fans. Our fans are gonna
- 13:01Speaker 1: start feeling like the jersey doesn't matter. At the front
- 13:04Speaker 1: of the jersey doesn't matter who you know, so.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Someone they the coaches to what what are the fans
- 13:14Speaker 3: like you most about the programs?
- 13:16Speaker 1: You know? Cause yeah, there's continuity there more and more so. Well,
- 13:18Speaker 1: the only people that like me are Yukon fans. So
- 13:22Speaker 1: and uh, but I'm glad to have it that way.
- 13:26Speaker 1: I wish you wish more people liked it, but the
- 13:29Speaker 1: important people like me. I guess that's a coach
