Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Welcome friends.
- 0:12Speaker 2: I'm Nicole, I'm Ben, and you're listening to Wicked.
- 0:15Speaker 1: And Grim at True Crime podcast morning my podcast contract listener.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Just watch.
- 0:48Speaker 2: And you can probably hear our tiny home vibrating away.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Oh man, we got well.
- 0:54Speaker 1: I think we dropped that. We got a washer and dryer.
- 0:56Speaker 1: But it's literally like when it's spinning that we are,
- 0:58Speaker 1: like at a train station or something.
- 1:00Speaker 2: It pretty much vibrates our whole house because it's so small,
- 1:03Speaker 2: so it sends of vibrations through the entire thing. So
- 1:05Speaker 2: if you're hearing vibrations, it is a poorly planned laundry
- 1:09Speaker 2: day mixed with recording for the podcast.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I won't do that again.
- 1:13Speaker 2: But to get through that, I have this boom.
- 1:17Speaker 1: And I'm drinking. I freaking made this shit myself, a
- 1:20Speaker 1: chy t latte made made.
- 1:23Speaker 2: With oat milk, with oat milk, like, look at me
- 1:25Speaker 2: go not because we don't have milk. We are lucky
- 1:30Speaker 2: that we have milk right now. We're not sure if
- 1:33Speaker 2: you guys have seen the news recently on living in
- 1:35Speaker 2: British Columbia. Yeah, but there is some disasters down near
- 1:41Speaker 2: the Vancouver and Okanagan region where flooding is rampid crazy floods.
- 1:46Speaker 2: It's insane.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Yeah, like if you see aerial shots or whatever, like
- 1:50Speaker 1: barns and stuff are almost like practically underwater.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Yep. Farms are flooded, animals are drowning. Road Vancouver is
- 1:59Speaker 2: completely cut up off. All the roadways heading north for
- 2:01Speaker 2: British Columbia I have all washed out the highways everything.
- 2:05Speaker 2: So people are mad rush buying at grocery stores panicking,
- 2:10Speaker 2: but they're fucking idiots because all of our groceries come
- 2:13Speaker 2: primarily east over in Alberta and none of those roadways
- 2:16Speaker 2: are cut off. Yeah, so people are.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Just are still ways to get up here. It's like,
- 2:22Speaker 1: I don't know that just almost shows because as people say,
- 2:25Speaker 1: like Vancouver is BC, it's like now everyone's showing that.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Yeah it is. Oh my gosh, we can't get to Vancouver.
- 2:30Speaker 1: We better go buy everything in the.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Grocery store exactly. And there's reports of people buying like
- 2:35Speaker 2: ten jugs of milk, Yeah, ten jugs of milk, so
- 2:38Speaker 2: like I'm four leaders or if you're in the state's gallons,
- 2:40Speaker 2: so ten gallon jugs of milk and currently and it's
- 2:45Speaker 2: gonna be like this for the next few days until
- 2:47Speaker 2: just trucks come in. Because they are coming in, there
- 2:49Speaker 2: is no produce, There is no meat, There is hardly
- 2:52Speaker 2: any dairy to purchase.
- 2:53Speaker 1: The shelves are like barren at the store. It's really
- 2:56Speaker 1: eer reaction.
- 2:56Speaker 2: And a stupid funny because in an apocalypse setting, what
- 3:00Speaker 2: gonna go do? Buy the perishable shit?
- 3:02Speaker 1: Yeah, are you fucking prepared?
- 3:05Speaker 2: You go for things like rice, beans, oats, canned food,
- 3:08Speaker 2: the non perishables that will last.
- 3:10Speaker 1: We bought one extra little bag of rice.
- 3:13Speaker 2: That's it. That's it, because rice goes a long fucking
- 3:16Speaker 2: way and it lasts for fucking ever.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it really does.
- 3:18Speaker 2: The only reason we bought that rice was just in
- 3:20Speaker 2: case people are stupid enough that they purchased the whole
- 3:23Speaker 2: fucking grocery stores and we just need something.
- 3:26Speaker 1: So yeah, so that's that's that's what we're dealing with.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Yeah, we're just like a pound of rice. We're good
- 3:33Speaker 2: to go.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I have no idea if that if Canada News is
- 3:39Speaker 1: if it is shown much in the US, like yeah,
- 3:41Speaker 1: it's been going worldwide, Okay, Okay, Yeah, I have no idea.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Yeah, So to all you guys out there who are
- 3:48Speaker 2: just learning on where we live, we live in Northern
- 3:50Speaker 2: British Columbia, and it's.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Chaos right now, but not as chaos as it is
- 3:54Speaker 1: down so well, yeah, where the floods are actually happening.
- 3:57Speaker 1: It's just people up here being dumb exactly.
- 4:00Speaker 2: But in the summer BC deals with forest fires and
- 4:02Speaker 2: now apparently in the winter it's rampaging floods.
- 4:07Speaker 1: You can't get a break.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Yeah. Well that aside that, we do have some good
- 4:10Speaker 2: news to share. We are actually a little bit ahead
- 4:13Speaker 2: of schedule. Yeah, so good job to you me.
- 4:16Speaker 1: It's only because I'm going away though, that's true.
- 4:18Speaker 2: But still rather than recording the last minute.
- 4:21Speaker 1: It's like a week ahead.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Yeah. Wow, high five to that. Maybe we can actually
- 4:26Speaker 2: relax a little bit rather than panicking to get some research.
- 4:28Speaker 1: It actually feels kind of nice. I'm not gonna lie,
- 4:30Speaker 1: so I would like to try doing this going for it.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Oh but we do have currently one patron to thank
- 4:38Speaker 2: because we're halfway through the week. There's probably there might
- 4:40Speaker 2: be another one or two that pop up in the meantime.
- 4:42Speaker 2: You'll be thanking next episode if that is the case.
- 4:44Speaker 2: But Kyla Snyder, thank you very much for being a
- 4:47Speaker 2: patron on our patreon.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I love that name actually right.
- 4:50Speaker 2: She signed up print all Access patreonage.
- 4:52Speaker 1: So thank you.
- 4:53Speaker 2: You're awesome. Thank you very much, Kyla. You're the bomb
- 4:57Speaker 2: the bomb dot com, the bomb dot.
- 4:59Speaker 1: That's so cool to say. I don't think so, I
- 5:00Speaker 1: don't know.
- 5:01Speaker 2: All I know is on Wicked Andgrim dot com. You
- 5:03Speaker 2: may be finding merch coming soon.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Okay, whoa, I didn't even plan that ship. That was
- 5:08Speaker 1: super good.
- 5:10Speaker 2: We fucking rule holy shit. Yeah, I'm actually working on
- 5:15Speaker 2: drawing up designs right now. I've had a couple like
- 5:17Speaker 2: sketches done out before. I'm solidifying some designs right now.
- 5:21Speaker 2: So hopefully in the next coming weeks, maybe two three
- 5:24Speaker 2: weeks tops, we should have stuff on our website so
- 5:28Speaker 2: you can purchase some stickers t shirts that sort of think.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Yeah, because if you didn't know, Ben's like about as
- 5:32Speaker 1: creative as you can get, and he is very artistic
- 5:35Speaker 1: and he's drawing the ship up.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a bit of an artsy, fartsy individual.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Yeah, you're awesome.
- 5:40Speaker 2: I like to say I'm I'm an amateur artist.
- 5:43Speaker 1: I think you're just awesome. I wouldn't.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I think I'm pretty fucking awesome too.
- 5:47Speaker 1: I think it works great.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Thank you. You ready to move on.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Though, Oh my goodness, I'm like all of a sudden
- 5:53Speaker 1: nervous because this case is just like eek, I almost
- 5:56Speaker 1: don't want.
- 5:57Speaker 2: To do it anymore, ready for this one? Because you
- 6:00Speaker 2: been trembling over researching this one's aura throughout the house.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Well thanks, just a little like storm crowded cloud above
- 6:11Speaker 1: our tiny home this week because of this case.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Apparently there's been a storm cloud every time we research.
- 6:15Speaker 2: It seems like just because I mean, it's dark. Shit,
- 6:18Speaker 2: it's depressing. Ship.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I know, I need to come up with some way
- 6:21Speaker 1: of like decompressing actually after I research maybe yeah, so
- 6:26Speaker 1: maybe i'll sart. Yeah, you know what I should bake
- 6:28Speaker 1: after I do heavy care.
- 6:29Speaker 2: You should?
- 6:30Speaker 1: That'd be amazing.
- 6:30Speaker 2: You can bake and I can drink and you can
- 6:32Speaker 2: eat it.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Okay, So the case that I'm covering, I can't remember
- 6:37Speaker 1: if we dropped a hint.
- 6:38Speaker 2: We did to our patrons, I think.
- 6:39Speaker 1: But it's so it's Luca Magnata, Luca Magnada saying that
- 6:46Speaker 1: name is kind of fun.
- 6:47Speaker 2: And this was based off the Netflix documentary.
- 6:50Speaker 1: We're going to get into all that.
- 6:52Speaker 2: It's not based off in Netflix.
- 6:53Speaker 1: There is a Netflix.
- 6:54Speaker 2: There is a Netflix documentary based on this case. Gotcha?
- 6:57Speaker 1: Okay, So I've actually had this case on my list
- 6:59Speaker 1: for some time now, ever since I did the Barbie
- 7:03Speaker 1: and Ken killer's case. Because there will be some mention
- 7:07Speaker 1: of Carla Homolka in this case, okay, and there's mention
- 7:13Speaker 1: of some similarities. This case has the to the Dexter
- 7:16Speaker 1: killer case that I also covered way back in episode seven.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Oh sweet. It's not a lot, but basically killers using
- 7:25Speaker 1: social media to their advantage to find victims, and then
- 7:29Speaker 1: how it also opens up their audience globally, just like
- 7:33Speaker 1: the internet's a dark, terrible place.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Oh it's fucking dark as shit.
- 7:36Speaker 1: It's like scary.
- 7:37Speaker 2: But I have a question, or not a question, more
- 7:38Speaker 2: so a statement. Sure, actually kind of a question everyone
- 7:42Speaker 2: out there who's listening right now? Are you aware that
- 7:45Speaker 2: there was a new season of Dexter coming out? And
- 7:47Speaker 2: are you excited as we are for it? Okay?
- 7:49Speaker 1: I was like, we're so fucking okay, I think it's
- 7:52Speaker 1: already out? Is it not my now? And here you're like,
- 7:55Speaker 1: we're so excited, we don't even know it's out.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Are you fucking kidding? I thought it was just the
- 7:58Speaker 2: were No, it's not I can't it is you need
- 8:00Speaker 2: to google that? Are you serious?
- 8:02Speaker 1: Well? And was it a whole series or just one episode?
- 8:05Speaker 2: Oh it's a new season. Oh shit, really as far
- 8:08Speaker 2: as I'm aware. Oh okay, I'm typing this up right now.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Okay, well I might as well as should. I just
- 8:17Speaker 1: wait for you to get this ship together here, because
- 8:19Speaker 1: you're pretty dang excited about the Dexter. Actually i'm too.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I'm I think I was more obsessed with Dexter than
- 8:24Speaker 1: you were.
- 8:26Speaker 2: I think you might have been actually.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Like, I love it, love it.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Uh yeah, shit.
- 8:32Speaker 1: It's out, isn't it?
- 8:33Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 8:34Speaker 1: Is it not? But it's not. We don't get that
- 8:35Speaker 1: station or whatever. I don't know how to get it.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not too sure the station. But yeah, it
- 8:40Speaker 2: started releasing on the seventh. I thought it. Wow, I
- 8:43Speaker 2: thought it was like coming soon. Not sure it.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Wow, Well we're going to be watching that.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I gotta blow my nose because I'm sniffling. So can
- 8:50Speaker 2: we pause this for one sec then get into your case?
- 8:53Speaker 1: Done?
- 8:53Speaker 2: Cool? Okay, I'm good. Wait am I unplugged?
- 8:57Speaker 1: I can't hear anything?
- 8:59Speaker 2: Test? Test? Okay, there we go, We're good. Sorry, headphonees unplugged.
- 9:03Speaker 1: We're good now, Okay, we're back.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Okay, so nose is blown, dexter research done, we're plugged
- 9:08Speaker 2: back in, we can hear.
- 9:10Speaker 1: So we're ready to go.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Eight, let's go onto your case.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, what a roller coaster. Okay, So who
- 9:16Speaker 1: is Luca Magnada? Well, do tell We like to cover
- 9:20Speaker 1: the victim story as much as possible, and we will be.
- 9:24Speaker 1: But don't be confused because Luca is not the victim
- 9:27Speaker 1: in this case, but rather literally one of the most
- 9:31Speaker 1: disgusting human beings I've ever learned about, like disgusting cool beans.
- 9:36Speaker 2: I'm intrigued. I'm terrified actually by that premise. But here
- 9:41Speaker 2: we go.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Luca was born on July twenty fourth, nineteen eighty two,
- 9:45Speaker 1: in Scarborough, Ontario. At the time of his birth, he
- 9:49Speaker 1: was known as Eric Clinton Kirk Newman. It wasn't until
- 9:53Speaker 1: two thousand and six that he changed his name to
- 9:55Speaker 1: Luca Magnada. He's the eldest of three children. I'm not
- 10:00Speaker 1: going to go into a lot of detail about it,
- 10:02Speaker 1: but like in many of the cases we cover, he
- 10:04Speaker 1: didn't have the best upbringing. I feel like we literally
- 10:07Speaker 1: say that pretty much every time.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's kind of sad. It's an unfortunate almost
- 10:14Speaker 2: it seems like a prerequisite at this point.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I no, it's really sad. His parents split when he
- 10:19Speaker 1: was very young, Luca going to live with his grandma
- 10:22Speaker 1: and grandpa, but then they would also later split, so
- 10:25Speaker 1: he was like he went through two divorce divorces in
- 10:31Speaker 1: a family.
- 10:31Speaker 2: I guess, gotcha.
- 10:33Speaker 1: He was homeschooled for a period of time to protect
- 10:37Speaker 1: him from the outside world, as he was told it
- 10:40Speaker 1: was dirty and dangerous.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Well that's not inaccurate. I mean, it's pretty fucking dirty
- 10:46Speaker 2: and dangerous.
- 10:46Speaker 1: But I just find that I don't know, I think
- 10:48Speaker 1: it might have been from his grandma that said that.
- 10:50Speaker 1: But I find that, like so incredibly ironic because considering
- 10:53Speaker 1: he went and made the world like way more dirty
- 10:57Speaker 1: and dangerous.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Yeah, fair enough, Okay, so I'm just.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Like, No. He did attend high school from nineteen ninety
- 11:03Speaker 1: eight to two thousand, and was remembered by teachers and
- 11:06Speaker 1: classmates as having an obsession over his appearance.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Okay, he's a little pretty boy, you know, likes to
- 11:13Speaker 2: look good. There's nothing wrong with had I mean, there isn't.
- 11:17Speaker 1: There's nothing wrong, But I think he was like, you
- 11:20Speaker 1: will get more into it. He's like obsess. Luca did
- 11:23Speaker 1: have high hopes of being famous one day and had
- 11:27Speaker 1: wanted to be an actor, but when that didn't seem
- 11:29Speaker 1: to pan out for him, he went a different route.
- 11:33Speaker 1: In two thousand and two or two thousand and three,
- 11:35Speaker 1: somewhere in that area, he would start stripping at Remington's,
- 11:39Speaker 1: which is a nightclub in Toronto.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Ooh, little Chippendale actions Hey.
- 11:45Speaker 1: He also would appear in some porn films as a
- 11:48Speaker 1: straight man turned to gay, adopting the name Jimmy, which
- 11:52Speaker 1: would also be his name working through a male.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Escort service, Jimmy, gotcha, Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, Little Jimmy. I
- 12:01Speaker 2: don't know if that's a great escort name, Little Jimmy.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Oh, I guess not.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Maybe Big Jimmy.
- 12:08Speaker 1: In two thousand and four is what so okay, sorry.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Two thousand and four is when Luca's basically like assholeness
- 12:16Speaker 1: really starts to shot.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Ahold, okay, his assholeness, I'm.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Until this point, it's not like horrific. So what happened
- 12:24Speaker 1: is he befriended a twenty one year old woman and
- 12:26Speaker 1: convinces her to apply for credit cards to then go
- 12:30Speaker 1: and rack them up himself. Unfortunately, this woman, however, had
- 12:35Speaker 1: some sort of mental disability and had the mental capacity
- 12:38Speaker 1: of an eight to twelve year old, so he fully
- 12:41Speaker 1: knew that he was taking advantage of her.
- 12:44Speaker 2: What a douche canoe like?
- 12:46Speaker 1: That's brutal.
- 12:48Speaker 2: It's one thing to take advantage of someone like that,
- 12:50Speaker 2: but then to take someone take advantage of someone with
- 12:52Speaker 2: a disability is like a jillion times worse.
- 12:56Speaker 1: He racked up neither nearly ten thousand dollars worth of
- 13:00Speaker 1: credit card debt.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Wow, what what a dick?
- 13:05Speaker 1: He does get charged with fraud. But the real kicker
- 13:08Speaker 1: with this incident is that he apparently also videotaped him
- 13:12Speaker 1: sexually assaulting this woman. But those chargers were dropped before
- 13:16Speaker 1: the case went to trial, and I don't know why,
- 13:20Speaker 1: but they were dropped, His lawyer later saying the decision
- 13:24Speaker 1: changed the course of Luca's life immeasurably, with huge ramifications
- 13:30Speaker 1: to our society eventually inevitably. Sorry, Okay, this like if
- 13:37Speaker 1: I feel like if he got had to serve justice
- 13:41Speaker 1: for that, this restless case could potentially be a lot differently,
- 13:45Speaker 1: or history could.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Be understandable or understandable. I wonder if, because of the
- 13:50Speaker 2: way the case actually turned out, if he I don't
- 13:53Speaker 2: know how to grudge or something towards society for the
- 13:57Speaker 2: sentence he did serve, or the label he had put
- 14:00Speaker 2: on him for what he did sort of thing and
- 14:02Speaker 2: made him worse because of it.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I don't think so. I just think maybe if he
- 14:07Speaker 1: got like help that he needed, if he didn't end
- 14:09Speaker 1: up going to jail or whatever, there could have been
- 14:12Speaker 1: some rehabilitation gotcha that time. And like that's just my thought,
- 14:16Speaker 1: But I don't know.
- 14:17Speaker 2: That makes sense. Yeah, And hopefully that anyone who does
- 14:20Speaker 2: undergo any sort of imprisonment or sentencing like that, they
- 14:23Speaker 2: do get the rehabilitation they need.
- 14:24Speaker 1: But I know so. In two thousand and five, Luca
- 14:27Speaker 1: pleads guilty and is convicted of four fraud charges. He
- 14:32Speaker 1: has only given nine months of community service and twelve
- 14:35Speaker 1: months of probation. It was revealed, however, in a medical
- 14:40Speaker 1: report that Luca had significant psychiatric issues. As the judge
- 14:46Speaker 1: was issuing his sentence, she said to Luca, you have
- 14:49Speaker 1: a medical problem and you need to always take medication.
- 14:53Speaker 1: If you do not, your life is going to get
- 14:55Speaker 1: messed up.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Wow. If that's not foreshadowing. I know, Hey, there's a
- 15:01Speaker 2: lot of times that we talk about cases too where
- 15:03Speaker 2: people are off their medication, right, goes out, Yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Like, who who's forcing them to take this their medication?
- 15:09Speaker 2: Can you for someone?
- 15:10Speaker 1: You can't, but they need to be medicated, or their life,
- 15:14Speaker 1: like she said.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Is going to get messed up, or someone else's life.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, that is some serious foreshadowing. I'm just
- 15:21Speaker 1: letting you all, yeah.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Fuck, And that's something you can't regulate that. You can't
- 15:27Speaker 2: force someone to take that medication, even if you try,
- 15:30Speaker 2: like say you do implement having to force them to
- 15:33Speaker 2: take medication just for the sake of conversation. How the
- 15:37Speaker 2: fuck are you going to implement that? How are you
- 15:40Speaker 2: going to ensure someone takes their medication every day at
- 15:42Speaker 2: fucking I don't know? Seven am.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Well, I feel like unless they were in like a facility, exactly,
- 15:50Speaker 1: you can't.
- 15:51Speaker 2: So if you have someone who's just an everyday civilian,
- 15:55Speaker 2: how are you going to implement that? Can't unless you
- 16:00Speaker 2: get a microchip inside everyone through a vaccine.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, No, we're not even going there. That
- 16:09Speaker 1: is just appalling.
- 16:10Speaker 2: No, my bad, Luca.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Continues, to appear in low level porn films, and also
- 16:16Speaker 1: appears in Fab Fab magazine, which is a gay bi
- 16:20Speaker 1: weekly magazine from Toronto, appearing as Jimmy He's describes himself
- 16:25Speaker 1: as a twenty two year old soccer fan born what
- 16:29Speaker 1: born in Russia? I'm sorry, I know, I'm like, I'm
- 16:32Speaker 1: boring you that.
- 16:33Speaker 2: No, it's it's late, it's.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Late, okay, twenty two year old soccer fan born in Russia,
- 16:40Speaker 1: currently living in Toronto, with hopes of becoming a homicide
- 16:44Speaker 1: police officer.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Maybe take police officer out of there, just a homicide individual, homicidal.
- 16:53Speaker 1: There's just so many like cringey things with this case.
- 16:56Speaker 1: It's just like, oh my goodness. Okay. In early two thousand,
- 17:00Speaker 1: Luca would meet and start dating a transgendered woman named Barbie.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Their relationship lasted several months, but Barbie ends up breaking
- 17:09Speaker 1: up with Luca, saying he was basically obsessed with himself
- 17:13Speaker 1: and obsessed with wanting to be famous. One day, his
- 17:16Speaker 1: apartment was a shrine dedicated to himself.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Okay, okay, so.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Like not someone you would want to be in a relationship. Yeah,
- 17:24Speaker 1: probably not, but I almost say that Barbie dodged a
- 17:29Speaker 1: bullet because it would go just downhill from there, and
- 17:33Speaker 1: like she didn't have to be a part of it. Right.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Yeah, there is some irony in that though, because I
- 17:38Speaker 2: mean Barbie stereotypically having that like perfect me sort of image,
- 17:44Speaker 2: you know, as it's Barbie's history anyways. Yeah, and then
- 17:47Speaker 2: Barbie saying that you're too obsessed with yourself.
- 17:50Speaker 1: I guess I never thought of that. Okay, So to
- 17:53Speaker 1: talk more about Luca's obsession with himself because it was strong,
- 17:57Speaker 1: mighty strong, and his session with getting famous. He auditions
- 18:02Speaker 1: for the reality shows Cover Guy and Plastic Makes Perfect.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Plastic Makes Perfect.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Apparently that's the show. I don't I meant to look
- 18:10Speaker 1: that up. I don't know if that's still a show,
- 18:11Speaker 1: but I'm just.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Like, well, I think we can assume what that means.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Again, I think there's still shows out there like that.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Again, to each their own. It's definitely not my forte.
- 18:21Speaker 1: But yeah, I'm not I'm not against anyone getting plastic surgery.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I don't know if I personally would, but like it
- 18:28Speaker 1: can go too far too.
- 18:29Speaker 2: I think boob jobs are good. Oh my god, I
- 18:32Speaker 2: want to boo.
- 18:32Speaker 1: You actually just say that. I know it's just okay,
- 18:43Speaker 1: so where that cam? I I watch Okay, I watch
- 18:45Speaker 1: these additions and it was like, I don't know, just
- 18:49Speaker 1: listening to him speak and like talk, it was just
- 18:51Speaker 1: crims really almost. It's one thing to have confidence, which
- 18:55Speaker 1: I'm all for, but he had this just like arrogance
- 18:58Speaker 1: about him with which I'm not into. Apparently neither with
- 19:02Speaker 1: the judges, because he never got chosen for either of them.
- 19:05Speaker 1: He tells Cover Guy judges that some people say, I'm
- 19:09Speaker 1: devastt devstinittly good.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Looking, devastatingly good looking.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Yeah wow, okay, that's an interesting way to like present yourself.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Well, it's cover Guy, is what he was.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I mean, he's selling himself, right, ye, he's.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Selling himself to the job, like that's that's kind of
- 19:27Speaker 2: the position.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Right, and with the plastic makes perfect people. He tells
- 19:34Speaker 1: them about are where Okay, whoa I wrote that? Oh?
- 19:38Speaker 1: I wrote that way wrong. So he basically tells them
- 19:41Speaker 1: that he's like all about his looks and he's about
- 19:44Speaker 1: perfecting them. He's had an oh's job done, two hair transplants,
- 19:49Speaker 1: and was planning on having muscle implants in his pecks
- 19:52Speaker 1: and arms, okay, which is like so interesting because whenn't
- 19:56Speaker 1: you just like like you just I don't even know
- 19:59Speaker 1: if I should say this. I was like, you just
- 20:00Speaker 1: go to the gym, right, and like tone up that
- 20:02Speaker 1: I make them bigger.
- 20:04Speaker 2: I have seen people with muscle implants, and to me,
- 20:07Speaker 2: it's very obviously implants. But again, to each their own.
- 20:12Speaker 2: If that's what they want, yeah, then I mean, go
- 20:15Speaker 2: for it. It's not my thing.
- 20:16Speaker 1: I've also seen an ass implants too. Was I with you?
- 20:20Speaker 1: We were at like an airport. I was at an
- 20:21Speaker 1: airport and stuff. I don't know, some person had ass
- 20:24Speaker 1: implants and it was.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Like whoa, like a good woe? No oh no, never mind.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Then I was like maybe she got some cake. I
- 20:31Speaker 2: don't know.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Well it was just like a little too much, gotcha.
- 20:34Speaker 2: No, there's no such thing as too much.
- 20:36Speaker 1: It was a little too much.
- 20:37Speaker 2: There's no such thing as too much cake.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Uh. And Luca's obsession to get famous, He also goes
- 20:43Speaker 1: about creating an online persona for himself, and this is
- 20:47Speaker 1: like beyond interesting, creating numerous fan pages about himself, and
- 20:52Speaker 1: by numerous, I mean like hundreds, holy shit of fan pages.
- 20:57Speaker 1: And then he goes one set further and creates fake
- 21:00Speaker 1: fans to basically comment on these fan pages. So like
- 21:06Speaker 1: each fan page I feel like only had like ten
- 21:08Speaker 1: to twenty people in it. But if you read through
- 21:12Speaker 1: enough comments on these fan pages, you start to see
- 21:15Speaker 1: some similarities of the comments gotcha that were like written
- 21:18Speaker 1: and it was pretty obvious that it wasn't It wasn't
- 21:21Speaker 1: numerous people like leaving these comments. I don't know, I
- 21:25Speaker 1: just think that's funny.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Fake it till you make it. I guess, I'm not sure.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Ciche tuche. This is also where we get to Carla Homoco.
- 21:34Speaker 1: So he created a rumor that he was dating Carla
- 21:37Speaker 1: because at this point, from what I could tell, there
- 21:39Speaker 1: wouldn't be anyone else out there creating rumors about him.
- 21:43Speaker 1: So he creates this rumor that he's dating Carla and
- 21:47Speaker 1: then drops into the Toronto Sun talks to reporter Joe
- 21:51Speaker 1: Warmington to basically deny the online rumors and talk about
- 21:56Speaker 1: how they were destroying his life.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Oh okay, So yeah, he's trying to implement himself in
- 22:01Speaker 2: some articles and get fame that way. Yeah, okay, I
- 22:04Speaker 2: mean smart, I mean it's just.
- 22:07Speaker 1: A serious like desperation to get attention. Really yeah, Like
- 22:11Speaker 1: it's it's serious.
- 22:12Speaker 2: I should I should clarify. It's not smart, it's crafty.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Yeah, he's using his noodle. Yeah, so in twenty ten
- 22:20Speaker 1: would be the year Lucago was a bit darker online.
- 22:26Speaker 1: I don't want to talk about it. Up to this point,
- 22:29Speaker 1: his fake fan pages weren't exactly hurting anyone, but what
- 22:33Speaker 1: he does next is disgusting and basically something that I
- 22:38Speaker 1: avoided learning about until this point. You may have heard
- 22:42Speaker 1: about the Netflix three part series Here we Go, Don't
- 22:45Speaker 1: Fuck with Cats. Yeah you haven't watched that, have you? No?
- 22:48Speaker 2: I haven't. Have you watched it for the researching this? Oh?
- 22:51Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 22:51Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 22:52Speaker 1: Unfortunately yeah, oh our fern is kicked in.
- 22:54Speaker 2: I don't know if you can hear that in our mics.
- 22:56Speaker 1: But well, the title is unfortunately very accurate. I actually
- 23:01Speaker 1: didn't even realize that the show was about Luca until
- 23:05Speaker 1: I started researching. I knew of Luca's later events, but
- 23:09Speaker 1: I did not know if anything I've already mentioned or
- 23:11Speaker 1: what it's to come involving the cats and trigger warning,
- 23:15Speaker 1: I'm about to talk about some extreme animal cruelty, which,
- 23:21Speaker 1: oh my gosh, Okay, I avoid animal cruelty at all
- 23:25Speaker 1: because it's just like I just can't.
- 23:26Speaker 2: But here we are I get triggered by animal cruelty.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Does that mean I can leave? Sure, I can go.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I'll just talk to the people about it.
- 23:33Speaker 2: No, I'm in it with you.
- 23:36Speaker 1: I think i've but I'm pretty sure that I already
- 23:37Speaker 1: told you because I had to get it off my chest.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Did tell me one as far as I could.
- 23:43Speaker 1: I just like I use like a cattle in anymore.
- 23:45Speaker 2: The thing with animal cruelty is it's they're so defenseless.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Not that many human victims or any human victims are
- 23:53Speaker 2: or are not defenseless. We are like the saviors, or
- 23:59Speaker 2: we are are the companions, we are all these things
- 24:03Speaker 2: for animals. We choose so much for what their life is,
- 24:07Speaker 2: so they are helpless to the situation and you just.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Look into their little eyes and they're just so innocent. Sweet.
- 24:15Speaker 1: It's just like, how could you hurt one?
- 24:17Speaker 2: Yeah? And so harming such innocence, it's it's it's disgusting.
- 24:26Speaker 2: It's equivalent in my opinion, to harming an infant. Yeah,
- 24:30Speaker 2: because there's nothing, but they rely on you for everything,
- 24:33Speaker 2: and they're so weny.
- 24:34Speaker 1: You are there, You're there everything, literally, you're there everything.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's it's equivalent to harming infants to me.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Okay, here we go. So on December twenty ten, Luca
- 24:48Speaker 1: uploads a video titled one Guy, Two Kittens. The video
- 24:53Speaker 1: shows an identified man, Luca, but his face is never
- 24:57Speaker 1: really shown, placing two kittens and one of the vacuum
- 25:01Speaker 1: bags designed for storage that you can suck the air
- 25:04Speaker 1: out of. So he places these two kittens in the bag,
- 25:08Speaker 1: and you can imagine, attaches a vacuum to the bag
- 25:11Speaker 1: and suffocates the kittens.
- 25:15Speaker 2: This guy's a piece of shit, Like it's just.
- 25:17Speaker 1: My heart is like sinking as I'm having to read
- 25:20Speaker 1: that shit because it's just sotly shit.
- 25:22Speaker 2: And this is something that I that I told you
- 25:23Speaker 2: because this is the one thing you did tell me
- 25:25Speaker 2: of the animal cruelty that he did, and I told you,
- 25:28Speaker 2: So I'm going to talk about it with you guys
- 25:30Speaker 2: as well.
- 25:31Speaker 1: So no, we don't need to talk about that.
- 25:34Speaker 2: No, I'm going to fair trigger warning on the animal cruelty.
- 25:38Speaker 2: I'm going a little deeper into this vacuum ceiling. It's
- 25:42Speaker 2: not that those cats would have just suffered suffocation. The
- 25:47Speaker 2: vacuum ceiling process would have collapsed. Their lungs. It would
- 25:51Speaker 2: have sucked the oxygen right out of their bodies. And
- 25:54Speaker 2: their bodies so it's not just they suffocated, they were
- 25:58Speaker 2: quite literally tortured as that auction was stripped from their lungs.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Like a nasty human being. To have even someone think
- 26:06Speaker 1: about doing something like that and then actually going and
- 26:09Speaker 1: doing that to two innocent little creatures is just yeah,
- 26:13Speaker 1: it's just disgusting. This guy I got We already are
- 26:16Speaker 1: just done with him. We're just done. The video was
- 26:19Speaker 1: apparently quickly removed because of its contents, but this is
- 26:24Speaker 1: where it gets quite interesting. Though. Was quickly removed, but really,
- 26:28Speaker 1: is anything actually removed from the Internet.
- 26:32Speaker 2: On the Internet, it's always.
- 26:34Speaker 1: There were many individuals who wanted nothing more than to
- 26:38Speaker 1: track down this person and get justice for those kittens,
- 26:42Speaker 1: because apparently you don't fuck with kittens.
- 26:45Speaker 2: The Internet loves its kittens and puppies.
- 26:48Speaker 1: I know. Hey. An online group was formed to seek
- 26:51Speaker 1: the kitchen killer, and some of these people treated the
- 26:54Speaker 1: sekh like it was their freaking job, like they were
- 26:56Speaker 1: going to catch this mofo. It was Ryan Boy, a
- 27:00Speaker 1: former US soldier, who formed the Facebook group which is
- 27:04Speaker 1: called Find the Vacuum kitten killer for great justice. The
- 27:09Speaker 1: article I was reading said about four thousand people had
- 27:12Speaker 1: signed up, and I'm thinking that was just initially because
- 27:15Speaker 1: I'm a creeper, and I went and searched for this
- 27:17Speaker 1: group today and over three thirty thousand were part of
- 27:21Speaker 1: the group. But I'm assuming like a ton of people
- 27:24Speaker 1: probably went and joined after the Netflix. Yeah, doc came
- 27:27Speaker 1: out right. Many people within the group using aliases to
- 27:32Speaker 1: conceal their identity, including Luca himself of course, breaking bastard,
- 27:39Speaker 1: it was believed at one point in time he was
- 27:43Speaker 1: part of the group. I'm sure loving the attention his
- 27:46Speaker 1: disturbing video was bringing to the Internet. A few days
- 27:50Speaker 1: after the video is posted, a five thousand dollars award
- 27:54Speaker 1: was posted from Rescue Ink in hopes of finding the
- 27:58Speaker 1: animal abuser. As a founding member of the group put it,
- 28:03Speaker 1: animal abuse is a gateway crime. When somebody starts to
- 28:06Speaker 1: open that door, that's when things start to get very dangerous.
- 28:11Speaker 2: I can imagine. It seems like a lot of prolific
- 28:14Speaker 2: killers started off young with.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Animals, which is disgusting, really disgusting. As the main group
- 28:22Speaker 1: grew too large, a few of the main members branched
- 28:25Speaker 1: off to form a new group of eleven members called
- 28:28Speaker 1: the Animal Beta Project. Their number one goal to stop
- 28:32Speaker 1: Luca before he kills again, and they meant business the
- 28:35Speaker 1: time commitment they put into analyzing every detail in the
- 28:40Speaker 1: kitten killing video frame by frame, finding out where the
- 28:44Speaker 1: blanket on Luca's bed was from the vacuum he used,
- 28:49Speaker 1: initially determining the unidentified man to be located in North
- 28:53Speaker 1: America basically by those items and like they're also looking
- 28:57Speaker 1: at like outlets on the wall and stuff, right, and
- 28:59Speaker 1: that can kind of determine where someone's from. They did
- 29:02Speaker 1: eventually an anonymous tip that the person they were looking
- 29:05Speaker 1: for was Luca Magnata, and from then on they were
- 29:09Speaker 1: able to have a focus. And because of Luca's obsession
- 29:12Speaker 1: with himself and getting famous, there was not a lack
- 29:15Speaker 1: of information out there about him, but not a lot
- 29:18Speaker 1: of it was true either. They claimed that furniture and
- 29:23Speaker 1: the kitten killer's clothing matched other images found that Luca
- 29:27Speaker 1: had posted. The next struggle was finding where Luca lived, though,
- 29:32Speaker 1: but they were able to find this too by using
- 29:35Speaker 1: exchangeable image file data from pictures uploaded and posted by
- 29:39Speaker 1: Luca that would tell them where the photo was taken.
- 29:44Speaker 1: I like information attached the photo, right. Luca was pretty
- 29:47Speaker 1: smart with these things, though, and seemed to cover his
- 29:50Speaker 1: bases very well, often even misleading investigators down rabbit holes
- 29:56Speaker 1: that didn't need to be visited, like he wanted to
- 29:58Speaker 1: waste people's fucking time. But there are also hundreds of
- 30:02Speaker 1: photos uploaded, and there was bound to be one that
- 30:06Speaker 1: he forgot to take that day that dad off.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Oh yeah, for sure.
- 30:10Speaker 1: They found one from October twenty ten, taken on a
- 30:13Speaker 1: cell phone and stamped with a GPS locator, and it
- 30:18Speaker 1: showed that Luca was located in the Toronto area, and
- 30:23Speaker 1: with more digging, they were able to locate his apartment
- 30:26Speaker 1: building and his address.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Oh shit, Like, I don't.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Want this dude to be Canadian. Go somewhere else.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't want you, no kidding, But I'm really
- 30:39Speaker 2: curious if it's going to be like these Internet sluices
- 30:42Speaker 2: that are the ones knocking on his door, or if they're.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Going to be No, they never got like that involved.
- 30:52Speaker 1: They would just be presenting information to like authorities, I guess. Okay,
- 30:57Speaker 1: So the group contacted the Ontario Society for the Prevention
- 31:00Speaker 1: of Cruelty to Animals with all their findings, who then
- 31:04Speaker 1: reached out to the Toronto Police and a file was
- 31:06Speaker 1: opened on Luca and Bebrure of twenty eleven. However, nothing
- 31:10Speaker 1: would come up. This what the police did, though, visit
- 31:14Speaker 1: the address that Luca did live and he he was
- 31:20Speaker 1: a resident there at one point, so I was thinking,
- 31:22Speaker 1: what's the word resident? He was a resident there at
- 31:24Speaker 1: one point, but apparently he had since moved to Russia,
- 31:28Speaker 1: so their hands were basically tied.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Had he actually moved to Russia?
- 31:31Speaker 1: He had? Actually there was like a new tenant in there,
- 31:35Speaker 1: and so was the groups. Everything began to settle with
- 31:39Speaker 1: little more evidence to research and look.
- 31:41Speaker 2: At, until until.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Two new kitten videos were released. Ah this fucker, Like, no, no, no.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Same account or is it new accounts?
- 31:53Speaker 1: Right? I don't even know that. Okay, yeah, I wasn't
- 31:58Speaker 1: going to like, I didn't want to accidentally come acro
- 32:00Speaker 1: He's nasty videos, honestly, and the rage I felt like
- 32:04Speaker 1: learning about these videos, this is so strong. It was
- 32:07Speaker 1: basically a year since the original kitten killing video was released,
- 32:12Speaker 1: the one, and I'm going into some detail. The one
- 32:16Speaker 1: video showed a man wearing a Sanda hat and placing
- 32:19Speaker 1: a kitten on a bed, but on this particular bed
- 32:23Speaker 1: was a python, so no explanation is really needed there.
- 32:27Speaker 1: So you can imagine what.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Happens with that one that it's not good. Still, at
- 32:33Speaker 2: least it's kind of animal and animal, you know.
- 32:36Speaker 1: It's well, that's like that would happen in nature.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Yeah right, I don't know, though I'm not happy about it,
- 32:44Speaker 2: don't get me wrong, And that dude's still a fucking
- 32:47Speaker 2: asshole for doing that.
- 32:49Speaker 1: But okay, well the next this next one, I feel like,
- 32:54Speaker 1: I don't know, it's just as worse as the other one.
- 32:56Speaker 1: I don't know what's just worse. So the second one
- 32:59Speaker 1: has a oh fucking duct taped to a broom handle.
- 33:04Speaker 1: It shows the broom and cat hovering over a bathtub
- 33:08Speaker 1: full of water.
- 33:09Speaker 2: Fuck.
- 33:10Speaker 1: The cat is then submerged in the bath until the
- 33:14Speaker 1: poor thing drowns.
- 33:16Speaker 2: This fucking guy holy shit.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Like, oh my gosh, I'm sweating. It's disgusting. The documentaries
- 33:23Speaker 1: I watched. So besides the Netflix one, there's also a
- 33:25Speaker 1: Fifth of State one. They showed clips of the videos,
- 33:29Speaker 1: just little clips, and I was just like, oh my god,
- 33:32Speaker 1: and I will just never be able to get the
- 33:34Speaker 1: visual of the fear in the cat's eyes that was
- 33:37Speaker 1: taped to the broom handle. Out of my mind, like it.
- 33:41Speaker 1: It just was a lot.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't want to watch.
- 33:44Speaker 1: You can't. You just don't. Don't even watch well, I
- 33:46Speaker 1: mean the documentaries are really good, but just listen to them.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Maybe listen, Yeah, just listen. He was back taunting everyone
- 33:56Speaker 1: with these new videos, but this awoke the group with
- 33:59Speaker 1: a vengeance and they were back at it trying to
- 34:01Speaker 1: solve the mystery of who this asshole was. The new
- 34:06Speaker 1: release of the videos also brought some attention from the press.
- 34:10Speaker 1: The Sun in London, England ran a story called Catch
- 34:13Speaker 1: the Sicko who fed a kitten to a python. From this,
- 34:17Speaker 1: one of the journalists at the Sun gets anonymous message
- 34:20Speaker 1: letting them know the person they're looking for is currently
- 34:22Speaker 1: in London and where they were staying. So the journalist
- 34:26Speaker 1: decides to go play pay a visit, pay him a
- 34:30Speaker 1: visit and records his encounter. Luca obviously denies what the
- 34:34Speaker 1: journalist is accusing him of killing kittens, saying he was
- 34:38Speaker 1: framed like fuck off. Shortly after this encounter, the reporter
- 34:44Speaker 1: would receive an email believed to be from Luca saying
- 34:48Speaker 1: next time you hear from me, it will be in
- 34:50Speaker 1: a movie I'm producing that will have some humans in it,
- 34:54Speaker 1: not just pussies.
- 34:56Speaker 2: Wow.
- 34:59Speaker 1: So some super alarming foreshadowing right now?
- 35:01Speaker 2: They no kidding.
- 35:03Speaker 1: The London police were notified but said it was outside
- 35:07Speaker 1: their jurisdiction. Fuck, because like right there, I just feel like,
- 35:13Speaker 1: could something else not have been done? Like that's like
- 35:16Speaker 1: a threat to just like society.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Yeah it is it not that's a threat to human life.
- 35:22Speaker 1: Yeah, to any human really.
- 35:24Speaker 2: So out of your jurisdiction. Sure, okay maybe yeah, great,
- 35:27Speaker 2: contact who's in that fucking area and whose problem it
- 35:31Speaker 2: will be to deal with? Luca?
- 35:33Speaker 1: Mm hmm, because it could say it could have saved
- 35:36Speaker 1: a life. So Luca then moves back to Canada and
- 35:40Speaker 1: set I was in Montreal, as the online investigators would
- 35:44Speaker 1: find out in early twenty twelve, which brings me to
- 35:48Speaker 1: Luca's next video, which was posted in May twenty twelve,
- 35:53Speaker 1: titled one Lunatic one ice pick fuck fuck, And the
- 35:59Speaker 1: victim of this video was not a kitten, but a
- 36:02Speaker 1: human like Luca had last promised. The victim was Julin,
- 36:10Speaker 1: an international student in the engineering and computer science faculty
- 36:15Speaker 1: at the corn Oh, how did we say that again?
- 36:19Speaker 1: Concordia Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 36:24Speaker 1: He was last seen on May twenty fourth and failed
- 36:27Speaker 1: to appear at work the next day. The video of
- 36:30Speaker 1: his murder was posted on May twenty twenty fifth. The
- 36:34Speaker 1: online investigators so like the people I can't remember, the
- 36:39Speaker 1: beta people or whatever, found a Craigslist ad that Luca
- 36:44Speaker 1: had posted looking for a sexy man, and it is
- 36:47Speaker 1: believed that this is how Julin met Luca.
- 36:53Speaker 2: Stay off Craigslist people. Craigslist's sketch was still even nothing.
- 36:57Speaker 2: I think it is.
- 36:58Speaker 1: I don't know, it probably is. The video shows Julian
- 37:02Speaker 1: bound on a bed, initially alive and then lifeless. It
- 37:07Speaker 1: shows someone repeatedly stabbing his body with an ice pick
- 37:11Speaker 1: and then dismembering the body with a knife. Evidence of
- 37:16Speaker 1: a sedative was in Julian Oh sorry, sedative city sedative Sorry,
- 37:23Speaker 1: was in Julian's system and in a wine bottle later found.
- 37:28Speaker 1: So the hope is that he didn't feel the incredible
- 37:30Speaker 1: pain inflicted on him.
- 37:32Speaker 2: That's yeah, that's would be the only silver lining there,
- 37:35Speaker 2: I think.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Yeah, So Julian's remains would not be found until May
- 37:41Speaker 1: twenty ninth, with his body being found in numerous stages.
- 37:46Speaker 1: And this is like the part that I kind of
- 37:47Speaker 1: knew about. So first that was found was his torso
- 37:54Speaker 1: it was found in the back alley, and I believe
- 37:56Speaker 1: Luca's apartment building by the janitor is found inside a
- 38:00Speaker 1: lock suitcase with many puncture wounds to the body, but
- 38:05Speaker 1: no head and all limbs had been removed. Fuck, like,
- 38:10Speaker 1: that's discussed. So sick, but so discross. Initially, the police
- 38:17Speaker 1: thought Luca was the deceased because as they searched the
- 38:21Speaker 1: garbage bend next to where the suitcase was found, they
- 38:24Speaker 1: came across paperwork with Luca's information on it, including his address.
- 38:29Speaker 1: When they went to check the apartment, it was clear
- 38:32Speaker 1: but smelled oddly clean. They needed to obtain a warrant
- 38:36Speaker 1: to do a deep search of the apartment, and when
- 38:40Speaker 1: they did, there was evidence of blood splatter being all
- 38:44Speaker 1: over like you could frickin' imagine. Surveillance footage the night
- 38:50Speaker 1: of the murder. Murder also saw Luca making dozens of
- 38:56Speaker 1: trips down to the garbage in the middle of the night.
- 39:00Speaker 1: He sure didn't hide it, well, Hey, no, like he
- 39:02Speaker 1: didn't really at all.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Then he went through a lot of trouble of hiding
- 39:05Speaker 2: his online stuff, which is strange that he didn't do
- 39:07Speaker 2: it when it came to the time of actual physical evidence.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Sure he cleaned up great, but then he just dumped
- 39:12Speaker 2: everything in the dumpster of his apartment building.
- 39:14Speaker 1: I know, it doesn't really make any sense.
- 39:16Speaker 2: It doesn't.
- 39:19Speaker 1: So Julan's limbs were found in the garbage that neither
- 39:23Speaker 1: of his hands, feet, are head were found, So just
- 39:26Speaker 1: like just the limb, I don't even know. Yeah, you
- 39:30Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. I'm not going to describe that anymore.
- 39:33Speaker 1: But they would be found first, one being on May
- 39:37Speaker 1: twenty ninth, which is the same day the suitcase was
- 39:39Speaker 1: actually found, when a mysterious package arrived via mail to
- 39:43Speaker 1: the headquarters of the Conservative Party in Ottawa. A receptionis
- 39:48Speaker 1: opening the mail finding a severed foot.
- 39:51Speaker 2: Fuck, why have I not heard of that?
- 39:53Speaker 1: Have you not heard of that? No? Oh my gosh.
- 39:58Speaker 1: He'd also taken a time to wrote to write a
- 40:01Speaker 1: poem to go along with the foot. It says roses
- 40:04Speaker 1: are red, violets are blue. Police will need dental file
- 40:08Speaker 1: to identify you, bitch.
- 40:11Speaker 2: What the fuck?
- 40:13Speaker 1: My that's is one of those fucked up poems. I
- 40:16Speaker 1: mean that you'll ever read it?
- 40:18Speaker 2: Who is he exactly addressing?
- 40:20Speaker 1: Just probably like investigators and shit? Right?
- 40:24Speaker 2: Maybe I don't know because like.
- 40:26Speaker 1: You get this foot like, what are the police going
- 40:28Speaker 1: to do? Like I don't, like they can't how can
- 40:32Speaker 1: they can't identify someone from it?
- 40:33Speaker 2: You know? Yeah? But you it's very particular to one.
- 40:38Speaker 2: Maybe I don't know, Maybe I'm just looking too deep
- 40:39Speaker 2: into it, but it seems like it's sing singling someone out,
- 40:42Speaker 2: especially considering bitch. Not you bitches need.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Dental file to identify you. They're you being juilant?
- 40:50Speaker 2: Okay, see, yeah, I thought it was like he's sending
- 40:53Speaker 2: it to someone in particular, like someone of government or
- 40:56Speaker 2: parliament or something like that.
- 40:57Speaker 1: No, so this bringing the attention of the world to him.
- 41:04Speaker 1: It being very obvious that Luca was not the victim
- 41:07Speaker 1: but rather the suspect and officially being named as so
- 41:10Speaker 1: on May thirtieth. Aside from what I've already mentioned above,
- 41:14Speaker 1: they also saw surveillance footage of Luca at Canada posts
- 41:18Speaker 1: dropping off the mysterious packages. It was more than one.
- 41:23Speaker 1: They later had surveillance footage of Juln entering the apartment
- 41:27Speaker 1: with Luca to never come out. Julian was not officially
- 41:32Speaker 1: recognized as being the victim until June via detective searching
- 41:36Speaker 1: through missing person reports. So now to touch on those
- 41:41Speaker 1: mail packages, Luca also mailed a package to the Liberals
- 41:46Speaker 1: and don't fuck with Cats. There's a news clip of
- 41:50Speaker 1: Justin Trudeau, pre Prime minister, speaking of the incident, which
- 41:54Speaker 1: I thought was interesting.
- 41:56Speaker 2: How did he do?
- 42:00Speaker 1: I actually think I might have skim him past that because.
- 42:02Speaker 2: I don't even remember, because no one in Canada really
- 42:05Speaker 2: fucking cares.
- 42:06Speaker 1: We rude, We just hear a lot from him. Apparently
- 42:10Speaker 1: it doesn't trigger anything in me anymore. So two packages
- 42:14Speaker 1: were also mailed to two schools. Oh and this is
- 42:19Speaker 1: funny that you even heard about it, because the schools, dude,
- 42:21Speaker 1: were in Vancouver, BC.
- 42:23Speaker 2: Why have I not heard it?
- 42:24Speaker 1: I don't know I had heard it, That's the part
- 42:26Speaker 1: I heard him, because that's some fucked up ship that
- 42:28Speaker 1: he literally cut off hands and feet and fucking goes
- 42:32Speaker 1: to the post office and mails the ship to places
- 42:35Speaker 1: like what the fuck?
- 42:36Speaker 2: It's kind of fucked up that I actually made it
- 42:37Speaker 2: through the mail system and not being picked up or anything.
- 42:40Speaker 1: Hey, I don't know, and I honestly have no idea
- 42:43Speaker 1: why he mailed them to the schools in Vancouver, but like,
- 42:46Speaker 1: can you just leave be c out of the ship
- 42:49Speaker 1: And because I didn't know where else to put this to,
- 42:52Speaker 1: Julian's head was found much later by a lake in
- 42:56Speaker 1: a by a lake in a Montreal park. Fuck. So
- 43:00Speaker 1: I mean at least that shit wasn't mailed, I guess,
- 43:03Speaker 1: But also like, huh, are you just like running around
- 43:06Speaker 1: Montreal with his head in the backpack? Like excuse me?
- 43:11Speaker 2: So Julian's remains were all eventually found though, correct, Yeah
- 43:17Speaker 2: that's good at least.
- 43:18Speaker 1: Yeah, they were, but in like I mean the suitcase,
- 43:24Speaker 1: the dumpster for packages, and a park. Yeah that's scattered.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Right, Well that is, that's sad, But I'm just at
- 43:31Speaker 2: the very least he was all accounted for. Yeah, that
- 43:36Speaker 2: to rest sort of thing.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I mean if your loved ones, I can't
- 43:40Speaker 1: if you never came across her hand, like that would
- 43:41Speaker 1: be kind of shitty. So okay, so where was Luca. Well,
- 43:47Speaker 1: after the murder, he boarded a plane and flew from
- 43:50Speaker 1: Montreal to Paris.
- 43:52Speaker 2: To Paris, Okay, Okay.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Like, let's murder someone then go to Paris.
- 43:56Speaker 2: Well, he's running away from the country. It's probably thinking that, yeah,
- 43:59Speaker 2: I just murder it's someone. I'm going to get away
- 44:01Speaker 2: with it now.
- 44:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:01Speaker 2: No.
- 44:02Speaker 1: Dubbed the Butcher of Montreal, Luca was now the center
- 44:06Speaker 1: of a global manhunt. Once arriving in Paris, his cell
- 44:10Speaker 1: phone was traced to a hotel, but he had already
- 44:14Speaker 1: left by the time the police arrived. He'd apparently also
- 44:18Speaker 1: stayed two nights with a man that did not realize
- 44:21Speaker 1: who he was letting in his home until he left.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Oh shit, like lucky dude. Really, can you.
- 44:26Speaker 2: Imagine the panic after you realize that. Yeah, the panic
- 44:30Speaker 2: in relief all at the same time.
- 44:32Speaker 1: It's like you could have been murdered, dude. Yeah, Like
- 44:34Speaker 1: it wouldn't have been a far stretch. After Paris, Luca
- 44:38Speaker 1: boarded a bus to head to Berlin. It would be
- 44:42Speaker 1: be in Berlin that the man hunt would end good.
- 44:47Speaker 1: On June fourth, acting on a tip from the public,
- 44:50Speaker 1: Berlin police were able to track down and arrest Luca
- 44:54Speaker 1: in an internet cafe. He initially pretended to be someone else,
- 44:59Speaker 1: but finally only admitted who he was and he was
- 45:02Speaker 1: apparently in there reading news articles.
- 45:05Speaker 2: About himself figured figured.
- 45:08Speaker 1: So like he got himself caught really because he couldn't
- 45:11Speaker 1: friggin let it be. He needed to know what the
- 45:14Speaker 1: fuck people were saying about him was going on and stuff,
- 45:16Speaker 1: which is just it makes sense really. Luca was held
- 45:22Speaker 1: in jail in Berlin until he arrived home to Canada
- 45:27Speaker 1: via a military plane which I thought was whoa on
- 45:31Speaker 1: June eighteenth to face his charges. He basically had to
- 45:35Speaker 1: come home on like a military plane because there was
- 45:41Speaker 1: just some issues, like he couldn't really go home on
- 45:43Speaker 1: like a commercial flight, right, none of the airlines wanted to, yeah,
- 45:46Speaker 1: to have that on them, and stuff like he was
- 45:48Speaker 1: a dangerous dude. There was a preliminary hearing, but Luca's
- 45:53Speaker 1: official trial didn't start until twenty fourteen. He elected to
- 45:58Speaker 1: be tried by judge injury. He pleaded not guilty, admitting
- 46:03Speaker 1: to the acts. Okay, so he puted not guilty, but
- 46:07Speaker 1: he did admit to the acts of what he was
- 46:09Speaker 1: accused for, but claimed not to be clemanly responsible due
- 46:12Speaker 1: to mental illness.
- 46:16Speaker 2: Oh it was all fuck.
- 46:18Speaker 1: It was instructed to the jurors that Luca admitted to
- 46:21Speaker 1: the acts he was being charged for, but it was
- 46:24Speaker 1: their task to determine whether he committed them in a
- 46:27Speaker 1: required state of mind. Just wait, you don't know anything yet.
- 46:35Speaker 1: My opinion, you're so agitated.
- 46:37Speaker 2: I am extremely agitated, because the mental state is always
- 46:42Speaker 2: thrown as that last ditch effort in court to try
- 46:45Speaker 2: and get away with whatever fucking crime you committed. And
- 46:48Speaker 2: I think that is just the biggest fucking knife in
- 46:51Speaker 2: the back for those who are suffering those sort of
- 46:53Speaker 2: things and who are dealing with it, and who are and.
- 46:55Speaker 1: Who don't go and kill kittens and humans.
- 46:58Speaker 2: Yes, and who are living with it and with it
- 47:00Speaker 2: properly and according to how life should fucking move on.
- 47:03Speaker 2: But these guys are taking advantage of that situation. Also, Okay, yeah,
- 47:07Speaker 2: sure I did it. I'm sorry. I wasn't in the
- 47:10Speaker 2: right mind, bitch. Were you in the right mind when
- 47:11Speaker 2: you fucking killed kat A, B, C, D, fucking D
- 47:14Speaker 2: all the way through the alphabet? How about when you
- 47:17Speaker 2: put out the ad on Craigslist. How about when you
- 47:19Speaker 2: brought the guy back to your apartment. How about when
- 47:21Speaker 2: you dismember the body and recorded it and then made
- 47:24Speaker 2: the video and then uploaded it and then mailed all
- 47:27Speaker 2: the fucking packages and then hid his head in the
- 47:29Speaker 2: fucking park, and then you left the country and were
- 47:32Speaker 2: caught fucking sitting in an internet cafe reading the articles
- 47:35Speaker 2: all but yourself because you're just that fucking self involved.
- 47:40Speaker 2: You got sorry, Yeah, how is that not? Oh I'm
- 47:47Speaker 2: just king, like, that's not mental illness. That's that's definitely prolonged,
- 47:51Speaker 2: which is not mental illness.
- 47:53Speaker 1: I percent get what you're saying, but I also feel
- 47:56Speaker 1: like to do acts like this, you have to have
- 48:01Speaker 1: something going on. Oh yeah, right, like because I mean,
- 48:04Speaker 1: like just a completely I mean but everyone has mental
- 48:09Speaker 1: illnesses to a sense really like, no one is a
- 48:12Speaker 1: mental sound I don't time.
- 48:14Speaker 2: And I'm not saying he's not mentally ill. Clearly he is.
- 48:17Speaker 2: There's already prediagnosis that is.
- 48:20Speaker 1: But it can't be justification for what he's said.
- 48:22Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not justified if you were saying, you know,
- 48:24Speaker 2: I had an episode of mental illness because I have
- 48:27Speaker 2: this history. Okay, maybe you did have an episode of
- 48:30Speaker 2: mental illness.
- 48:31Speaker 1: This went on for too long.
- 48:32Speaker 2: This is far too long for you could just claim
- 48:34Speaker 2: it's a mental illness episode, because there is many times
- 48:38Speaker 2: you could have turned yourself in You could have asked
- 48:41Speaker 2: for help, you could have stopped yourself, you could have
- 48:43Speaker 2: realized what was going on and deleted the videos or
- 48:47Speaker 2: something like that or anything. But you just kept going
- 48:49Speaker 2: and kept liking it. Yep. So, yeah, he's mentally ill,
- 48:54Speaker 2: but you're guilty. It's not a crutch. Well then it's sorry.
- 49:00Speaker 2: Very strong feelings on.
- 49:01Speaker 1: That one reelings. After a twelve week trial and on
- 49:06Speaker 1: the juror's eight day of deliberations, they would find Luca
- 49:10Speaker 1: guilty of all five charges against him, good first degree murder,
- 49:16Speaker 1: committing an indignity to a body, publishing obscene material, mailing
- 49:23Speaker 1: obscene and indecent material, and harassment of Prime Minister Stephen
- 49:28Speaker 1: Harper and other members of parliament.
- 49:31Speaker 2: God.
- 49:32Speaker 1: He was sentenced to life in prison with no chance
- 49:35Speaker 1: of parole for twenty five years.
- 49:38Speaker 2: Uh so he can get parole.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Yeah, because he's not even super old. So I mean like,
- 49:44Speaker 1: if he just served twenty five years, he could be Oh, which,
- 49:47Speaker 1: I'm just like this, this guy cannot come out of jail.
- 49:50Speaker 1: I would I think there would be petitions and stuff.
- 49:54Speaker 2: I don't think he would reach parole. I don't think that.
- 49:57Speaker 1: Oh well, I sure freaking hope not Okay. So there's
- 50:01Speaker 1: a couple of things that I just want to like
- 50:04Speaker 1: touch a bit more on, one being that I mean
- 50:08Speaker 1: this this, you could dive so much deeper into this
- 50:11Speaker 1: case like this, you could just really go down a
- 50:13Speaker 1: rabbit hole here, because like the Netflix series is three
- 50:17Speaker 1: wow long episodes or whatever, and there is controversy about
- 50:21Speaker 1: those because could the police have done what the online
- 50:27Speaker 1: investigators were doing and were they just like fueling his fire,
- 50:32Speaker 1: which is a possibility, right, But then I.
- 50:34Speaker 2: Already thought of that when I figured you'd talk on it.
- 50:36Speaker 1: I don't know they were. They were finding out things too,
- 50:40Speaker 1: but yeah, it's like, could police have been finding that
- 50:43Speaker 1: out on their own when it's when it was keme
- 50:45Speaker 1: time to this.
- 50:45Speaker 2: So but when it boils down to it, you don't
- 50:49Speaker 2: fuck with kittens or puppies on the internet.
- 50:51Speaker 1: No, you really don't.
- 50:53Speaker 2: You don't. You just don't don't fuck with cats, right.
- 50:56Speaker 1: And then I wanted to touch a bit more. On
- 50:58Speaker 1: julyn so, his friend speaks at the very end of
- 51:02Speaker 1: the Don't Fuck With Kat's Netflix series and says it's
- 51:06Speaker 1: really sad and not fair how everyone talks about Luca
- 51:10Speaker 1: and doesn't remember his friend saying Luca didn't just kill Julyn,
- 51:15Speaker 1: but also destroyed an entire family's hope. In the Chinese culture,
- 51:21Speaker 1: it's always the sun that carries the responsibility for the
- 51:25Speaker 1: care of the parents when they become older, and now
- 51:28Speaker 1: that's gone, like his parents don't have that, Like, oh
- 51:33Speaker 1: my goodness. Julian's parents traveled to Montreal after the Sun
- 51:38Speaker 1: was murdered, where a candlelight vigil was held. They also
- 51:42Speaker 1: traveled to to attend the trial, which I was like,
- 51:45Speaker 1: that's really good. And finally, the university that Julian was
- 51:49Speaker 1: attending created an award basically commemorating the life of Julin.
- 51:58Speaker 1: And that's all I have to say.
- 52:00Speaker 2: Dang, well, I really hope that Julen's family can move
- 52:07Speaker 2: on some way.
- 52:08Speaker 1: I mean, they'll never fully heal.
- 52:10Speaker 2: And I hope Luca fucking rots and does not get
- 52:13Speaker 2: parole and eventually in the end he fucking burns.
- 52:18Speaker 1: It's like, it's absolutely disgusting what he's done. And like
- 52:22Speaker 1: I said, I only knew about him mailing the packages.
- 52:26Speaker 1: And it's funny because I was like type it in
- 52:28Speaker 1: Luca Magnata and Google and then it comes up with
- 52:31Speaker 1: this s Don't Fuck with Cats, and I was like, fuck,
- 52:36Speaker 1: I've been annoying this Netflix series and now you're telling
- 52:40Speaker 1: me that I have to go fucking watch that. No.
- 52:43Speaker 1: But then and I like was like, do I want
- 52:46Speaker 1: to do this? Case? Do I want to do it?
- 52:47Speaker 1: And then yeah, I'm glad I did it.
- 52:49Speaker 2: I learned a shit ton But who this was recommended
- 52:52Speaker 2: by patrons right we're on Patreon, wasn't it.
- 52:56Speaker 1: I don't know if it was, because member, I've had
- 52:58Speaker 1: this list this honest on my I think it's been recommended.
- 53:01Speaker 1: I know people recommended, but I've honestly had this on
- 53:04Speaker 1: my list since I did the Barbie Can Killers.
- 53:06Speaker 2: Right, No, I thought you were doing this one specifically
- 53:09Speaker 2: off a Patreon list or something like that that day.
- 53:11Speaker 1: I forgot about weeks.
- 53:13Speaker 2: Okay, it's getting hard to keep track of all the
- 53:15Speaker 2: recommendations we've had weet.
- 53:17Speaker 1: We do actually get a lot of recommendations. I absolutely
- 53:19Speaker 1: love it, and we do write them down, but we
- 53:21Speaker 1: have too many that not saying that don't send them anywhere,
- 53:25Speaker 1: but we just do have too many that we might
- 53:26Speaker 1: not be getting to like all of them kind of thing.
- 53:28Speaker 2: And even if we do get to them. It might
- 53:30Speaker 2: be a while, yeah, but keep setting them.
- 53:32Speaker 1: We always like have a wealth of topics, so it's
- 53:36Speaker 1: not like we're like, oh, what should we do? Right?
- 53:39Speaker 1: We always we have a list we can go to.
- 53:41Speaker 2: We don't just have a list, we have a book.
- 53:44Speaker 1: We have a book actually.
- 53:47Speaker 2: But yeah, if you guys want to go join over
- 53:48Speaker 2: on Patreon and see some behind the scenes stuff of
- 53:50Speaker 2: the podcast, support us a little more and get all
- 53:52Speaker 2: those extra little details and even extra episodes that come
