- 1:00The. And welcome back to the Boundary
- 1:49Corner Podcast along with my partners, Brian Siegler, Shelton
- 1:53Moss. I am Curtis Wilson, and we are
- 1:56part of the College Huddled Podcast Network.
- 1:59And this episode, as always, is brought to you by the Counts
- 2:02Family Pharmacy Three O 1 S Main St. in Blacksburg.
- 2:06Your friendly No neighborhood pharmacy.
- 2:09Go see Jeremy Shelton sliding in at the last possible second.
- 2:15What happened in the game? Pick a fat L.
- 2:21Close L Oh, fat L. Close L, but it sucked.
- 2:27Oh good, that's the worst in the after game specials.
- 2:31Yeah, what'd you say? So the worst of the afternoon
- 2:34specials. The worst of the afternoon
- 2:36specials. Well, gentlemen, welcome to
- 2:38Thanksgiving Week 2024. Also should be known, also known
- 2:46on this podcast as Hate Week because obviously Saturday night
- 2:538:00 will be UVA versus our beloved Hokies.
- 2:59Yep, I'm drinking tonight, y'all.
- 3:00So the loop's not going to be as sealed.
- 3:03Not going crazy like I will in about 3 weeks, but let's just
- 3:06say it's happening tonight. As we were, as we were.
- 3:12Josh, is this a reference to us or the team?
- 3:16Or Saturday night, whichever 1 you want to count.
- 3:20Hey, gentlemen, you were in person, so we look forward to
- 3:26your insight. Well, first of all, did you have
- 3:28a good time regardless of outcome?
- 3:31I did have a good time. I was the game with one of my
- 3:34Duke buddies and one of one of his Vt buddies.
- 3:36So we had a good time. I saw some of the Sun's people,
- 3:39some of my former Charlotte peeps.
- 3:41So it was a good time, man. I'm just, you know, it was good
- 3:44to kind of just be be with my friends and everything.
- 3:46Like, I didn't really have super high expectations and turns out
- 3:49that those expectations were justified.
- 3:51So yeah, I mean, the practical feeling, that's what it is.
- 3:55I'm just, I'm just here to see see my friends and enjoy night
- 3:57out watching football. And I got that so.
- 4:00All right. Well, glad to hear you had a
- 4:02good time, regardless of outcome of the game.
- 4:05Obviously you sent us a few texts while you're in there
- 4:08about some stuff going on and everything.
- 4:10So that should not be put on this Oh.
- 4:12No, no, no, no. That is, that is behind lock
- 4:15and. Key Hey, there's Wade has that
- 4:18Wi-Fi though they can you can get those.
- 4:19Texts out with regularity. There's a statement #1 Shelton
- 4:23got not only one text out, Shelton got about 7:00 or 8:00
- 4:27texts out during the course of the game because of good Wi-Fi.
- 4:31That's another thing to bitch about, but let's get into it.
- 4:34We are going to know the enemy. We're going to look a little bit
- 4:36at UVA. We're going to always, as
- 4:38always, go big screeners. Some other news and notes as
- 4:41well. Some things breaking.
- 4:42Obviously, I want to look at the playoff rankings, but we got to
- 4:47start with what did take place. What Shelton is listed list what
- 4:51Shelton witnessed in living color, live and alive Saturday
- 4:55night. A 3128 loss to Duke, another
- 5:01late November loss toward the Carolina team by 1 score.
- 5:05And if you're keeping record at home, we are.
- 5:09Brent Pry is now 1 and. 12, Third, 12/13/12.
- 5:16One and 1213 games, Brian, that have been decided by 1 score in
- 5:19his tenure here. That is right now right at 1/3
- 5:23of the games he's played one and 12 and it sucks.
- 5:27So I'm not even going to be beat around the Bush.
- 5:31I always like to say usually what went well first.
- 5:34I'm not in that mood tonight in y'all's opinion, Brian.
- 5:38Actually, Shelton, you want to start us off?
- 5:41You saw it and I'm sure you did some data dig in.
- 5:43What went bad Saturday night? Well, first and most obvious is
- 5:49just the explosive passing plays.
- 5:51I mean, it sounded like from what Price said in the post
- 5:53game, you know, they had some coverage busts, some safeties
- 5:56made bad reads on one of the I think the second touchdown by
- 5:59Duke or maybe no, it was the third, the third big passing
- 6:03play. They accepted the third
- 6:04touchdown before the end of the first half.
- 6:05Dante Lovett just fell down. So I mean nothing you're going
- 6:08to do but just shake your head there.
- 6:09So I mean, yeah, that was really the game for jib because I don't
- 6:13think, I mean running wise, they averaged less than three guys
- 6:15per carry. I thought it was one of the
- 6:16better run performances for the Vt defense all season long, if
- 6:18not perhaps the best. So it was kind of disappointing
- 6:22from that perspective to just see how well they stopped the
- 6:24run. But they give so many chunk
- 6:26passing plays that it almost doesn't even matter.
- 6:28And you, you spot a team 14 points in the 1st 5 minutes the
- 6:31first quarter, yeah, you come back to like, that's hard to
- 6:34dig, that's hard to that's a hard hole to dig yourself out
- 6:36of. So and then third, I mean, third
- 6:39quarter, you know, Duke came out with a really good first, first
- 6:42drive to that half kind of gashed ET through the air and
- 6:45also with the run as well, you know, don't know what happened
- 6:48there, but I don't know, man, just you know, they were they
- 6:52were successful most of the time the defense was, but just just
- 6:55ungodly amounts of of big chunk passing plays really did them
- 6:58in. Yeah, the frustrating thing was
- 7:03just watching coverage, man, because that's something I feel
- 7:07like we've been not great at. But I mean, we we hadn't been
- 7:11giving up those big chunk plays like that all year.
- 7:15So it was frustrating. And I know a couple, you know,
- 7:17you had, I think Lovett slipped on one.
- 7:19He slipped on another one of those, a touchdown one that set
- 7:22up a touchdown like Shelton was saying, just before the half.
- 7:25And then he had a big busted coverage on that first one where
- 7:29it looked like most Phillips was kind of eyes in the backfield
- 7:34and next thing you know, you know guys 10 yards behind him.
- 7:39So it was just frustrating to watch those big plays kind of
- 7:42happened because again, if you take away those big plays, it's
- 7:44a it's a completely different game.
- 7:46But that's why you got to, you got to be there and make the
- 7:48play. Yeah, it's here you go.
- 7:51This was early in the game. It was 5 defensive plays.
- 7:54They scored 14 points. That's just unbelievable.
- 7:59I'll say this and we'll, we'll, we'll probably touch into this a
- 8:02little bit more. The bad was into the game for
- 8:07me. Hey, I did not get to watch the
- 8:10second-half. We were visiting family.
- 8:12I had it at my sister's house. My mother didn't have it.
- 8:15So I'm between texting the shit out of these guys along with
- 8:18Allie and other people and watching Gamecast, trying to
- 8:21figure out what's going on. 144 left, the fumble happens.
- 8:25We get the ball great. We got 3 timeouts.
- 8:30You can run your whole offense because you have timeouts in the
- 8:33bag and we just chunked the ball.
- 8:36Let's just throw it. Let's just throw it like, let's
- 8:39try. No semblance of attempting to
- 8:41drive the ball. We're down three.
- 8:43You don't need a touchdown. You do not need 84 yards.
- 8:47You need at best, I'm going to say 55 because of John Loves
- 8:52Lake, 55 yards. That could easily be a couple
- 8:55plays. And I sit here and I'm
- 8:59frustrated as hell because that's not the first time it's
- 9:03happened. Happened against Vandy late in
- 9:05the game, happened against Rutgers late in the game.
- 9:09So remember those things. It's this consistently at the
- 9:12end of the game we're down and it's like literally it's like
- 9:17playing a 7 year old on Madden or college football and you get
- 9:20them down to a down late. What do they do?
- 9:23They run everything deep. All you got to do is play
- 9:25quarters or play covers for you'll pick the ball off.
- 9:28I don't fucking get it. I'm not paid $1,000,000 and I
- 9:32could sit here and tell you 144 left.
- 9:35Heck, 1 little toss out the Tooting, try to get the edge,
- 9:39maybe he sails in. Busted 20 yard run, run a screen
- 9:43run. Something quick to get the ball
- 9:45in somebody's hands quick and we didn't.
- 9:49Well, another thing we, we, when you talk about that, we close
- 9:52the first half with a couple situations where that bit us in
- 9:56the ass as well. You know, you get in the red
- 9:58zone, was it under 5 minutes, seven step drop, you get sacked,
- 10:04another seven step drop, you get a fumble.
- 10:06Now all of a sudden, you know they're in business.
- 10:08They go down, they take the lead there and, and then, you know,
- 10:13you end up getting the ball. Sorry, they, they, they, we got
- 10:17the ball back, had what, 6 seconds on the on the clock and
- 10:21another seven step drop instead of just running a quick out to
- 10:24try to get love a chance to, to kick a field goal there.
- 10:27So that sequence to close the first half was mind boggling to
- 10:33me. You know, we had a bunch of
- 10:37opportunities where we could have really either taken a big
- 10:40lead or at least got the lead back there at the end and just
- 10:45kind of, you know, pissed down our leg a lot with the play
- 10:48calling and and the execution there.
- 10:51Shown anything else went bad. I know you said you had
- 10:54something, I told you put it in the chamber, but I'm assuming
- 10:59that was going to be in the bad category.
- 11:00Did you, did you still have that?
- 11:03Well, that's more of a Brent Price at which we can talk about
- 11:04if we get into the coaching discourse.
- 11:06But yeah, I mean, I don't know, I I didn't think I thought the
- 11:11offense moved the ball pretty well actually.
- 11:12So I don't really have too many gripes for the offense other
- 11:15than maybe how that that last first first half drive ended,
- 11:19you know, where they got down, ran the ball, took a time out in
- 11:21the second down, I think it was, and took a big sack.
- 11:24I understand what they were trying to do with, you know,
- 11:26maybe only no timeouts left second down.
- 11:28So obviously, you know, you got to take, you know, try taking a
- 11:33shot to the end zone, you get sacked, then you've got to pass
- 11:36again to kind of throw the ball away because you can't, you
- 11:38know, you can't have the ball clock running after that third
- 11:41down play. So it's like, yeah, I don't
- 11:44know, just kind of messed with drive.
- 11:45I mean, I know they had some execution miscues on that one,
- 11:48but that just was kind of screwed up from the start.
- 11:51Hey, Robbie, I, I agree with you here 100%.
- 11:53But at the same time, at the same time, that's when your,
- 11:57your coordinator doesn't necessarily put an inexperienced
- 12:00quarterback in that situation, in that down in distance, in
- 12:02that location on the field. It's very true and I'm trying to
- 12:07get to it here with the fumble because that ball, that draft
- 12:12started right. We're at the Duke 14 yard line
- 12:16with 47 seconds left, the 14 yard line and and pop, he
- 12:23attempts to run the ball and he he loses a couple proc calls a
- 12:29timeout. That's fine, no issue with the
- 12:31time out right there because he gets hit behind the line.
- 12:34People are going in, you bring them back.
- 12:37The issue was what you said, what you said and what Rodney
- 12:40made to point out too. They were as an experience, but
- 12:42it's at the 14 yard line. Why are you trying to run five
- 12:46and seven steps drop, trying to get people in the end zone, get
- 12:50the ball in somebody's hands, have two plays ready to go.
- 12:53And Brian, I know you guys did this at Sydney at times where
- 12:56y'all call a time out and you'd have two plays.
- 12:59Hey, we're going hurry up as soon as we hit the first one.
- 13:01We're going right to this one regardless.
- 13:04Again, I'm not getting paid $1,000,000 When he comes out of
- 13:07that time out, it should have been 2 plays in case we get
- 13:10tackled inbounds, we can make a quick snap and we can make the
- 13:14decision. But instead it's a seven step
- 13:16drop, it's a sack. Then it happens again.
- 13:19We're at the 25 at that point in time too.
- 13:22So you sit here and again, it's mismanagement of the game
- 13:26because at the 25 yard line through the math, 40 yard field
- 13:29goal, John Love tie ball game, right?
- 13:33Yeah, or or. Down one point at halftime.
- 13:36One point at halftime. Yeah, so I, I, I pulled it up
- 13:41the so that, that second down play, they ran the ball and 2nd
- 13:44down to yard loss called a timeout.
- 13:46They wanted to run a screen pass, but it got blown up so
- 13:48quickly because someone I think, I think it was Kane and misses
- 13:51block that got blown up right away.
- 13:54So you're back to the 27 and then there's 28 seconds left and
- 13:58counting and then you get blown up.
- 14:00So I mean, maybe they should have called.
- 14:02Well, actually, no, look at it, man.
- 14:04I don't I don't think pop had a chance, honestly.
- 14:06I just. Well, the whole piece is well,
- 14:09you, you, you mentioned they, they blow up the screen pass
- 14:12then then what? You've got to basically go in
- 14:15Shelton to say, hey, listen, it's the screen is not there on
- 14:182nd and 12. Just kill the ball at the feet.
- 14:23Just kill the ball at somebody's feet.
- 14:25We'll go third down. It's the whole now try to find
- 14:30the next play. Well, likely that's the read.
- 14:32And if they blew that up on a screen, Brian, you know, from
- 14:35playing offensive line all these years and we can talk about it.
- 14:38Some people put in here the offensive line playing like
- 14:40shit. Not the whole game.
- 14:42Not the whole game. It was a very up and down
- 14:45performance. But but Brian, that screenplay
- 14:48he's talking about, yeah, you know that basically, you know
- 14:54from playing, if that screen does not work and it's not
- 14:57there, you cannot hold the ball. It should have been if the
- 15:01screens not there, what do I do? Throw it at somebody's fucking
- 15:04feet foot. At least at that point, even if
- 15:07they call intentional grounding, it's probably a three to four
- 15:10yard loss. And obviously too it would be
- 15:13the clock would stop and either you could do the 10 second
- 15:16runoff which might have been if I saw that situation.
- 15:21Yeah, I mean, it was it was it was a common to your areas.
- 15:24And like I said, it was it was a combination in my opinion of
- 15:28maybe bad situational plus again, bad execution,
- 15:32inexperience from popping that type of situation.
- 15:34So there's just a lot of factors at play there that really kind
- 15:38of, you know, helped helped us screw the pooch.
- 15:40And that's very important situation in my opinion, because
- 15:45you went from a, a, a, a spot where the drive before, if you
- 15:49could have finished that you're, you know, you really fully
- 15:53recaptured the momentum after a disastrous 1st 5 plays on
- 15:56defense. Then you let them go back and
- 15:59take the lead. And then, you know, now you now
- 16:02you're back again where you can make it a one point game.
- 16:04You don't do it. You end up getting the ball back
- 16:07and, and you kind of do the same thing again there instead of,
- 16:10you know, trying to get a quick play that might give you a
- 16:12chance to, to, to, to at least get one more field goal attempt
- 16:16there to, to close out the half. So to me it was just a a bad
- 16:20sequence, those final really 3 possessions of the half for the
- 16:24Hokies on offense. And effectively, those type
- 16:28things have been the undoing all year of the Hokies.
- 16:31Hokies fall to 5:00 and 6:00 on the season.
- 16:36And you know, it stinks. That's the bad it stinks.
- 16:39I do want to point out that there were a couple good moments
- 16:43or not good moments, but good individual performances in this
- 16:47game And, and I'm going to call out the first.
- 16:49We've called his name a couple times for making errors, but
- 16:53overall with Pop Watson, I was, I actually felt good because he
- 17:02looked to be making quick reads. You saw the elusiveness from him
- 17:07and everybody can say well he didn't look great and lead us to
- 17:09a win. He played well enough to lead us
- 17:12to a win if he had been put in a couple more right situations.
- 17:17Yeah, I mean we got a, you know, I think when we look at the
- 17:19performances we got also mention Ollie Jennings coming out party
- 17:24for 20/24. It it took a while to get there,
- 17:29but a, you know, we finally got a big performance from Ollie
- 17:32Jennings this year. So good to see that and and
- 17:37really showed a burst that I don't really think we've seen
- 17:39for most of the most of the season, especially on that that
- 17:42touchdown where he kind of took it, got up the alley and then
- 17:47kind of finished it running over the the tackler there near the
- 17:50end zone. About you showing anybody you
- 17:53felt good about or you want to give a kudos to, I mean.
- 18:00We saw a little bit of Devin Elvis at Safety Pride.
- 18:04Pride was complementary of them. So I guess that'd be that'd be
- 18:08one. And again, I mean obviously the
- 18:09entire D line I thought was great and run defense so you
- 18:12know cuz. Yeah, I mean the the the the
- 18:15defensive line and the defense in general from a, you know,
- 18:18running run stopping situation was was, you know, top notch all
- 18:22game. They they had a little bit of a
- 18:24rough, rough drive there towards the end.
- 18:26They finally, you know, let a couple runs get through there,
- 18:29but for the most part, anytime they tried to run, you know,
- 18:33there, there wasn't really a whole lot to be seen in terms of
- 18:36extra yardage there. So kudos to them.
- 18:39It's just it's it's it's frustrating that again, like
- 18:46we're we're seeing this team get beat in different ways every
- 18:49week. It's like we can't just circle
- 18:51this is the problem. This here is the problem because
- 18:54it's something new every week. And and that then that says
- 18:58something that probably, you know, hopefully a week and a
- 19:01night we're discussing because when you can't pinpoint one
- 19:04problem, it probably means it's multiple people and multiple
- 19:09problems as we're discussing. So, you know, we'll, we'll see
- 19:13what happens basically over the next couple weeks.
- 19:17I want to give a shout out to APR Did not report a sack that 1
- 19:231/2 tackles for loss, but you could see him coming off the
- 19:26edge. They were ready for him and they
- 19:28still could not stop the pressure he created.
- 19:30He got absolutely screwed out of not being a finalist for the
- 19:33Lombardi award. Absolutely screwed in my
- 19:36opinion. Screwed.
- 19:38If y'all didn't see that he was not named a finalist.
- 19:40It's a bunch of bullshit. And somehow who else?
- 19:44Somebody else got left off the Thorpe Oh Colorado guy Travis
- 19:50Hunter got left off the Fort today.
- 19:53Finalist explain that one. Anybody y'all got any
- 19:58explanations for either one of those guys?
- 20:00I mean, statistically he's the best corner in the country and,
- 20:08you know, probably a top 10 or 15 wide receiver.
- 20:12And he did not get. But you know, whatever, fuck us,
- 20:20right? That's pretty much it right now.
- 20:23All right, let's keep on going. Anything y'all weren't prepared
- 20:27for like. Bombs, I mean, I wasn't prepared
- 20:31for them to do have big plays in the passing game.
- 20:33I was not prepared for that. I I knew there was potential
- 20:36there, but we had been pretty sound about not allowing those
- 20:41the the big long ones all year, even when, when those are
- 20:44busted, usually it was kind of underneath and there was a
- 20:48missed tackle or over over pursued or, you know, something
- 20:52like that that was causing the play itself to happen.
- 20:55Not necessarily, you know, just getting, getting beat deep
- 20:59slipping, things like that. We hadn't had a ton of those all
- 21:03year. So it was really disappointing
- 21:04that for that to happen in this game.
- 21:09Showing anything you weren't. Yeah, I, I, I was, I mean, same
- 21:13with Bryan. Obviously the big passing plays
- 21:14because it's not exactly Duke's strong suit, but I was a little
- 21:18surprised pleasantly with how well the offense moved the ball
- 21:20considering the circumstances. I mean, you got down to pop
- 21:22Watson, you know, your third and quarterback.
- 21:25I thought he he was looking pretty good on some of those RPO
- 21:28slants, like he could hit them and and Malik for, for Duke was
- 21:32missing. Like, I mean, he could barely
- 21:34hit those, those ways. And I know we had a few, a few
- 21:36good deep balls and he's good throwing deep balls, but in
- 21:38those intermediate range, I, I didn't think he was very
- 21:40accurate. Pop looked really good on some
- 21:42of those intermediate passes. So I was, I was very pleasantly
- 21:45surprised by that. Yeah, this, this is another one.
- 21:51My only thought with that is that, you know, you go from
- 21:53Schlee to Pop Watson and maybe some of those snaps that you
- 21:57were going to get a Aurora guy in a wide receiver.
- 22:03Now you may keep your veterans in a little bit more because
- 22:07you're working with a raw and inexperienced quarterback
- 22:10though. So that's my only guess there.
- 22:13Anybody that knows different can feel free to chime in there, but
- 22:15that's my guess. Yeah, there's nobody knows what
- 22:20did didn't happen that I was prepared for.
- 22:26It's it's it's it's tough for me.
- 22:29I go to probably I wasn't prepared to see Basil Tune play
- 22:36the way he played because him coming off the injury he at
- 22:42times look like the basal. We know the cuts, the burst he
- 22:46got over 1000 which kudos to him on that.
- 22:49I'm so glad he got 1000 yards first since Filio Harvard back
- 22:53in 2020 during the COVID season 1 a lot that you know no one
- 22:58actually saw in Lane Stadium which sucks but he deserved it
- 23:03from getting basically COVID screwing and probably out of AD
- 23:06one offer last year. The way things broke probably
- 23:09more earlier in the season where he could have had it then, but I
- 23:14was pleasantly surprised that he looked as good as he did.
- 23:20And I also loved his statement today.
- 23:21I don't know if you saw it in the presser about I'm here to
- 23:25play, I'm going to go ahead and say something.
- 23:28Running backs, every NFL coach, wherever he was, he just went up
- 23:3132 spots on their boards wherever he was.
- 23:35Because if you ever hear about like NFL, I'm a Niners fan, they
- 23:41always talk about it. John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan,
- 23:44You have to love football to be here.
- 23:46You can't love money, you can't love hype.
- 23:49You can't love success. You have to love the actual
- 23:51game. When I heard him say that,
- 23:54there's a bunch of people saying where is he?
- 23:56Move him up the next round, why he loves the game.
- 23:59We're going to see him Saturday one last time in Lane Stadium.
- 24:02All righty, to the last point here, we always hit then what
- 24:08can we do better moving forward? Is this where you wanted to to
- 24:11throw the bomb in there? Shelton?
- 24:14What can we do better moving forward because saw how much
- 24:16coach discord we're going to get tonight.
- 24:19I mean, win close games, I guess I don't, I don't really know
- 24:23what what what other solution there is like the teams play,
- 24:26you know, mostly pretty well. I mean, they put themselves in
- 24:29good spots and they just can't get out of the hump.
- 24:31So I was researching this last night because I saw a stat that
- 24:35was somewhat related to it. So last 20 years this year
- 24:41Virginia Tech has a point differential of plus 5.7 against
- 24:43FBS team. So they're they're weighing
- 24:45their games on average by 5.7 points against the FBS.
- 24:50That is the second highest point differential for a team with a
- 24:54losing record in the last 20 years.
- 24:55Only other team with a higher point differential with a losing
- 24:58record was Georgia back in 2010. So just kind of put some
- 25:01perspective to you just how much this team has underperformed.
- 25:06And I know, you know, we talk a lot about the coaching and you
- 25:09know, where we've kind of come up short and the coordinators
- 25:11and so forth. But like, I don't think the play
- 25:13in the field has been as bad as people think.
- 25:15I just think the the complete and utter inability to to
- 25:20capitalize in those crunch situations and just eventually,
- 25:23you know, find your way on top of a close game.
- 25:25It's just something that's been really unprecedented.
- 25:27I mean, we've we've seen the data like probably has the worst
- 25:29record in once we're games for any coach the last 20 years with
- 25:32at least 10 games. So I just, I don't know, I mean,
- 25:35I'm kind of out of venture at this point, honestly.
- 25:36Like just win, find a way to win plus game.
- 25:39Like there's really nothing else that needs to be said.
- 25:41Yeah, you've lost six games by a combined 34 points.
- 25:46That's I mean that that that's what it is.
- 25:51You know, you're talking about that's that's less.
- 25:52You're not. Getting blown out.
- 25:54That's less than a touchdown per game.
- 25:58Only one of them has been A2 score situation, all the other
- 26:03ones have been one score contest so.
- 26:05And that was a one score contest.
- 26:06For how long? Most of the damn game game.
- 26:11So I mean it, it's, it's one of those so close, but so fucking
- 26:17far away situations of like you're, you're there to you're,
- 26:22you're putting yourself in a position where you could be
- 26:24considered a good team, but you are not closing the deal with
- 26:28any sort of regularity. When, when things are tight,
- 26:32when things get tough, when, when teams put pressure on you
- 26:36in the final two minutes of a game, when teams put pressure on
- 26:38you in the final quarter of a game, you've done a good job of
- 26:45counter punching. When, when teams come out quick,
- 26:48you, you've had an answer. When teams have hit you with
- 26:51that inevitable third quarter debacle, you've had an answer,
- 26:56but you haven't been able to close the deal when it mattered,
- 26:59and that's a problem. Yeah, put what Robbie just said
- 27:03up there, you have to learn how to win now and close the games.
- 27:09And the question now goes, and this is, I know we've said it a
- 27:12lot and people in there put up gems as well because it's it
- 27:16goes back to this. The question is, I'll give the
- 27:21benefit of the doubt to a head coach because if we talk about
- 27:24the way the talents changed on the field in the last three
- 27:27years, the the also the, the analysis and the reviewing of
- 27:34the talent in the portal and the guys they're bringing in from,
- 27:38you know, the recruiting ranks in high school.
- 27:41This staff's done that right? You want to argue with me all
- 27:44you want. Colin Schley didn't look out of
- 27:46place. Pop Watson didn't look out of
- 27:48place. Drones, when he has been
- 27:49healthy, has looked fine. Facial tootin looked good.
- 27:53Think of some of the younger offensive lineman who are
- 27:55working their way and they've looked good.
- 27:57That's what's irritating. That's what's irritating more
- 28:00than anything. Because in 2021, the games we
- 28:04lost, I could point and say we're not as talented here.
- 28:07We're not as talented here. And and if you ask me what's
- 28:12more frustrating, well, this is more frustrating than that
- 28:17because at least there I could say we just don't have the
- 28:19horses to keep up. Now I get to sit here and say we
- 28:23have the horses, we can play with any fucking body in the
- 28:26country and we've seen that. We just ain't pressing the right
- 28:30buttons. Yeah.
- 28:32I mean, you, you played, you played with Miami, you played
- 28:35with Clemson. And then you kind of play down
- 28:39to a Duke, you play down to a Syracuse.
- 28:42And I mean, I understand you're playing with backup quarterbacks
- 28:45in both of those games, but those are games you needed to
- 28:48have to to put a stamp on the season and feel pretty good
- 28:52about it, especially the way you started off with the Vanderbilt
- 28:55and the Rutgers loss. We needed to win those games.
- 29:00Perception wise. You need to show that you can
- 29:04close the deal against middling ACC competitions regardless of
- 29:09whether you got your starting quarterback in there or not,
- 29:11because you put yourself in position Despite that.
- 29:13To win those games, you got to win them.
- 29:17Sean, One last thing to close out this segment.
- 29:22I mean, I don't know, I, I kind of talked about it last week for
- 29:27the key play, you know, it's just, it's been a pretty average
- 29:30step so far. I feel like I don't think it's
- 29:32been bad. I don't think it's been great
- 29:33either. You know, I don't think the
- 29:35Sky's falling, but I just, I think one of the things that
- 29:37makes it hard to sort of analyze what the problem is, is that I
- 29:40think the, the issues with this team are so vague and amorphous
- 29:45and, and poorly defined that I don't really know exactly where
- 29:48to start. Like I don't know who to
- 29:49scapegoat statistically. Is it the offensive defense?
- 29:52I don't know. Could it be some of the
- 29:54assistants? Maybe.
- 29:55But like, what's, I mean, like what's the main issue?
- 29:58I just don't know if there's one thing you can put in.
- 29:59So like we are terrible at that. And if we fix that, then boom,
- 30:02we're good. It's like, it's kind of like
- 30:04collectively every, everybody's just been average and I don't
- 30:06know how you fix average. Yeah.
- 30:08And I, I, I think I'll, I'll tell this, I'll, I'll say this.
- 30:13I think, I think we're, we're, we're seeing that amorphous
- 30:17situation is coming from just the general inexperience of the
- 30:20people that are making the high level decisions for the program
- 30:24right now. And that's why you're seeing
- 30:28different things, different weeks because that that
- 30:31inexperience, I think is starting to stack up as we get
- 30:36into, we get expectations attached to us.
- 30:39We get these situations where we're in these tight contest,
- 30:45you know, these these coordinators haven't seen these
- 30:48situations with enough frequency when it's their decision that is
- 30:52going to make or break that moment potentially it and it's
- 30:56like it's it's a combination of of not seeing that, but also, I
- 30:59think it at times either not understanding the strengths and
- 31:04weaknesses in a given moment of your team and not leaning on the
- 31:10strengths that you have in your running game at key moments in
- 31:13the game and thinking, I need yards, I'm just going to drop
- 31:16back and and and see what happens here.
- 31:19I think sometimes, you know, on offense, Bowen sometimes
- 31:23overthinks and then I think sometimes on defense you get a
- 31:27little bit of that that we do, we do mindset and and that can
- 31:32burn you in the end as well. I'm going to just close it with
- 31:35this right here. So let's let's talk about the
- 31:44the poll we put out there. Oh yeah.
- 31:46All right, so we put out a poll. We're basically saying, you know
- 31:50what is happening in the season we got move on from Brent Pry,
- 31:54move on from your OC and DC. You know, it could be either,
- 31:58could be either, or it could be one of the other, could be both
- 32:02or something else. And we put that out there.
- 32:05So 75% of you think that one or both of the coordinators need to
- 32:10go. The other 25% were basically a
- 32:14combination of either move on from pry or essentially all the
- 32:20other statements were basically dumped the entire athletic
- 32:22department down the toilet and start over from scratch.
- 32:27So some, some variation of fire wit, which is going to have a
- 32:30trickle down effect through football, right?
- 32:33So 75% are just on the coordinator wagon.
- 32:38Another 25% are basically some some version of moving on from
- 32:41Brent Prize. So that's kind of the rundown
- 32:45of, you know, over 700 folks that that that that clicked on
- 32:49that that poll there. So do with that what you will.
- 32:53Well, do with that, which you will and you know, I think I
- 32:57think it's where as I was talking to a family member on a
- 33:02Saturday, they pay attention a little bit to football.
- 33:06Not crazy, but I was like him as that marketing, the guy who glad
- 33:12hands people who's going to talk to everybody at the party got it
- 33:15down pat him as a face. I know some people get tired of
- 33:19the coach stick. I still think his stick's better
- 33:21than Fuente because he will a lot of times, and we've heard
- 33:23this from day one, he a lot of times will say we as coaches
- 33:28specifically on certain points. If you all remember Brian, we
- 33:32sat here, I believe a little bit drunk a couple years ago and
- 33:35said Fuente will never ever. He always says wee, wee, wee.
- 33:38Say execution one more time, motherfucker.
- 33:40Who? Would never say coaches.
- 33:44That is the one. It's still a breath of fresh.
- 33:45I know some pisses, some people awful.
- 33:47What can you do? And it's like, well, at least
- 33:50he's admitting that as a coaching staff, they have to be
- 33:52better. He's not sitting here saying we,
- 33:55we, what the fuck's we? Is we all of us, the whole
- 33:59fucking team? The Royal we.
- 34:02So there we go. All right, so let's take a quick
- 34:06little break here. What I'm stepping on.
- 34:10And as always, we are brought to you by the Count Family
- 34:13Pharmacy, your friendly neighborhood pharmacy, 301 S
- 34:16Main St. in Blacksburg. And obviously it is hate week.
- 34:20This week we do not have a guest, so we are going to be
- 34:24getting into some of the UVA Cavaliers players here.
- 34:31Obviously they are currently led by Tony Elliott, also in his
- 34:35third season. A significantly bigger or win or
- 34:39significantly worse win loss record than Brent Prockey's also
- 34:42coming in five and six. They're five and six, right?
- 34:44I didn't. I didn't fucking make that up in
- 34:46my head for. That we're we're both playing
- 34:48for bowl eligibility. The story of the Commonwealth
- 34:52Cup over the last 10 years. 10 plus man, going back to the end
- 34:56of end of beamer there. 2012, Oh no, 10 years, 2014, man, that
- 35:02was one of those years. But we are going to talk about
- 35:05them tonight. And obviously, Brian, I believe
- 35:09that you wanted to start on the defensive side of the ball, a
- 35:13little bit behind their defensive setup, defensive
- 35:19scheme. Yeah, yeah.
- 35:21I mean, this is a a multiple formation kind of they you have
- 35:24a three, four base, but they'll run multiple fronts.
- 35:28You know, you'll see them come out of four two, you'll see them
- 35:30come out of 3433 stack. They'll run a lot of different,
- 35:34different looks at you different fronts.
- 35:37So expect that, you know, they've got their hybrid outside
- 35:41linebacker DN and then they got a hybrid kind of safety
- 35:44linebacker there. So they can kind of move guys
- 35:47around, give you a little bit of a different look depending on
- 35:51how they want to attack you. So expect that it's going to be
- 35:55very interesting to, you know, prepare for that from an
- 35:59offensive line standpoint with having different fronts pretty
- 36:02regularly. So we'll see if they come out
- 36:05and stick with mostly a 3A3 man front or if they kind of mix in,
- 36:10you know, four man with with any regularity.
- 36:13Yep. And if y'all are wondering,
- 36:15they're LED. That's led by John Rozinski.
- 36:17He's the guy that came over from Air Force with them and as far
- 36:21as it goes for this year, they're ranked well in the
- 36:26bottom half. Shelton, if you have that
- 36:27number, I have a very big number here I want to give out.
- 36:31They give up on average 5 point yarn yards per play.
- 36:37I do not have where they rank, but Shelton, if you've got that
- 36:41or any info you want to lay on about their defense from a
- 36:44statistical perspective before we look at the players.
- 36:48Yeah, I'm looking it up right here.
- 36:51I've got so 400, four, 119 yards per game averages their average
- 36:56for FBS opponents, and that also translate to six yards per play
- 37:00against FBS, which ranks 91st in the country.
- 37:03So not good. That's that's low, low, low.
- 37:09So Brian, let's talk about a couple of the players Shelter,
- 37:11you got any all these players just chime in when you want to
- 37:13my man. Let's talk about kind of the guy
- 37:16you threw on here. We'll talk about Jonas Sanker.
- 37:19The six foot 293 LB safety three star when he came out, actually
- 37:26went right from hometown there, went to the Covenant School down
- 37:29in Charlottesville. And so far this season, you
- 37:33know, we're taking a look at his, you know, statistics.
- 37:37He is leading the team and not only solo tackles, but also
- 37:41total tackles at 89. And Brian, just kind of looking
- 37:45at real quick what you see, what do you like from Sanker?
- 37:49Yeah, I mean, he's a, he's a guy that has really good activity as
- 37:55a run defender coming from that, you know, back part of the
- 37:58formation there, really good instincts, good tackler.
- 38:04You know, probably not the fastest kid that you'll see from
- 38:08the secondary perspective, but he can still make cover, good
- 38:11ground there. Not really great in coverage,
- 38:15really just an average coverage. But in terms of run stopping
- 38:19from a safety position position, he does a really good job with
- 38:22that. Showing anything on Sanker grade
- 38:25wise, data wise, statistics wise you like or are interested?
- 38:30No, I can. I'll give you a second look at
- 38:31that. I can circle back all.
- 38:33Right. We'll circle back on Sanker
- 38:34there. The other guy I wanted to talk
- 38:38about was a guy a lot of people thought that might be in
- 38:42Blacksburg after after he when he came out, which in the 2023
- 38:49passes. Cam Robinson 4 star out of
- 38:51Tappahannock just down the just down 360 here E heading towards
- 38:58the coast. Essex High School, pretty big
- 39:01time recruit when he came out a top ten player in the state and
- 39:06obviously he's already getting it done, you know, you know,
- 39:09just in his second year there. Brian, what do you like about
- 39:13him? Maybe some weaknesses?
- 39:17Yeah, I mean, he's really kind of settled in really quick at
- 39:20the mic position for for UVA really kind of came in and and
- 39:28and out the gate was a was a difference maker on that
- 39:31linebacker unit and continues to be.
- 39:33He's been banged up the last last couple weeks here, so he
- 39:35hasn't seen as much action, but we'll see if he's going to be
- 39:41fully healthy this go. But it looks like he is at the
- 39:43top of the depth chart this week for the Cavaliers.
- 39:47So expect to get him in heavy doses.
- 39:50And I mean, he's a guy that's going to give you a lot of fits.
- 39:53Does a really good job against the run.
- 39:57Yeah, really good athlete. Matches up well when he's in
- 39:59coverage responsibilities. Probably a little bit weaker in
- 40:05zone coverage than he is, you know, covering guys man to man,
- 40:07but. He's he's, he's probably the, to
- 40:11me at least, you know, looking top to bottom, probably the
- 40:14scariest player on their defense just because of what we do well
- 40:17and, and, and what he does well. Jill.
- 40:23You're on mute again, bud. Can y'all hear me?
- 40:27Yep, we got you. One moment.
- 40:36Can you hear us? I got you.
- 40:39I can hear you now. I can hear you now, Sean.
- 40:40You got anything right now? Yeah, just looking at some of UV
- 40:46as advanced sets in the in the advanced sets column, a lot of
- 40:49red, which is bad. You don't want you don't want
- 40:51red 102nd offensive success rate, 119 drop back success
- 40:57rate. So their passing game's been,
- 40:59you know, been extremely inefficient and then you know,
- 41:02defense 58th. So a little bit better there,
- 41:05but they just haven't really converted drives.
- 41:10But that's been a big sore spot for them.
- 41:12Third down success pretty bad 200 and 3rd and 3rd and 4th down
- 41:15conversion rate. So across the board, man, it's
- 41:18been it's been a rough year for the Wahoos.
- 41:20It's not a lot to really look at positively if you're a UVA fan
- 41:23all. Right, except they're five and
- 41:25six. Somehow that's the only positive
- 41:28they have is they're fucking 5:00 and 6:00.
- 41:30Look at the front half of their schedule.
- 41:31Homie Oh it was awful. I mean, we haven't had anything
- 41:35to write home about, but the front half of their schedule was
- 41:37dog shit and we looked at it and were like get to the back half
- 41:42of the schedule and you will be lucky to see one more.
- 41:46They got it. They.
- 41:47Got it. Which completely shocked me real
- 41:50quick about the importance of Cam Robinson here, because even
- 41:53though they ranked way, way down, as Shelton mentioned in
- 41:57the total defense in that yard per play, their run defense is
- 42:03middle of the pack. So Cam Robinson playing Saturday
- 42:06is probably a huge key to that because they ranked 57th in the
- 42:11country when it comes to that. So definitely going to be key if
- 42:15he goes Saturday night. Brian, you had one more guy you
- 42:18wanted to talk about. Who was that?
- 42:20Yeah, that's our defensive end, Cam Butler.
- 42:24You know, just looking at what we do poorly, we struggle at
- 42:30times to protect the the passer, especially when you potentially
- 42:34might have Pop Watson in there at quarterback.
- 42:37Somebody with that inexperience, you know, we saw that on a
- 42:40couple times against Duke become a big problem.
- 42:44So we're going to need some consistent offensive line play
- 42:50when when we pair that with, you know, potentially starting our
- 42:52third string quarterback in this game.
- 42:54So we'll see if Schlee can go with the, you know, concussion.
- 42:57We know that that Kyron's probably going to be missing
- 43:00this game as well. So we're probably going to be
- 43:03counted on at least our second, if not our third string
- 43:05quarterback here. So it's going to be important to
- 43:07protect that person. And you know, Cam Butler does
- 43:10not not he's not an excellent rusher, but he is a guy that is
- 43:14consistent and has a motor. So we've got to be consistent
- 43:17with our with our protection throughout the game.
- 43:20And obviously going back to the Duke game, probably a night that
- 43:23whole offensive line wants to remember giving up seven sacks,
- 43:2714 1/2 tackles for loss. So something not good.
- 43:32And you know, like, you know, Shelton said they're about their
- 43:35drop back success rate, not that good.
- 43:37So there is going to be some opportunities there.
- 43:41But always keep an eye on that. Cam Butler, Shelton, anything
- 43:43else before we jump over to the offensive side of the ball?
- 43:48Yeah, I did look up the numbers for Yonah Sankar.
- 43:49There's safety. PFF is pretty average on him,
- 43:53maybe a little bit below average, but he does have 6
- 43:55quarterback pressures this season, which is tied for ninth
- 43:59most among ACC defensive backs. So I don't know how often they
- 44:02bring them and pressure situations, but you know, he's
- 44:04done a decent job of getting there at least.
- 44:07And then, you know, in coverage he's been targeted a decent
- 44:10mountain and you know, teams have had success against him. 3
- 44:12touchdowns given up in coverage for PFF so you know they've been
- 44:16able to get to him. But yeah, I just think overall
- 44:19UVA for the most part has kind of struggled defensively,
- 44:23particularly in the secondary run.
- 44:25Demons has been OK overall pretty solid, but their
- 44:29secondary has been some some burnt toast this season.
- 44:32All righty. Let's hope we can take advantage
- 44:33of that on Saturday. Let's flip over to the offensive
- 44:37side of the ball that's led by Dez Kitchen Brown.
- 44:40What does he like to do on offense?
- 44:43It's a it's a wide zone offense. You know, he's been trying to
- 44:46get to it I think for a while. I think they're starting to have
- 44:49a little bit more success with the running game this year than
- 44:53they have necessarily. I think the last two years.
- 44:57It it it's an offense that it's kind of predicated on being able
- 45:01to run the ball so they can set up some of those throws
- 45:03downfield that that is kind of their bread and butter when they
- 45:06do get into a rhythm is throwing the football down the field a
- 45:09little bit off of play action and things like that.
- 45:11So obviously LED, you know, Calandria quarterback, we've
- 45:15seen Musk get in there at from time to time.
- 45:20I think there's a little bit of a quarterback controversy kind
- 45:23of brewing there. I don't know how much to make of
- 45:27that just because you know, muskets out of eligibility
- 45:30beyond this year. So that's that's something to
- 45:34watch. We'll see how much of musket we
- 45:36see Saturday compared to Calandria.
- 45:41But you know, when we look at Calandria, he's a guy that I I
- 45:45think is as as much as we want to give Kyron the the sophomore
- 45:50slump here. I mean, here's a guy that that's
- 45:51really hit the the sophomore wall very fucking hard this
- 45:58year. You know, when we looked at him
- 46:00playing last year, you, you saw a lot of like, you know, the,
- 46:04the ceiling was there. You can see what the ceiling
- 46:06looked like, You know, when he came, you know, came to throwing
- 46:09the ball down feel a lot, very average in those intermediate
- 46:14areas. But he was, he was driving the
- 46:16ball down feel pretty effectively.
- 46:18We haven't seen a whole lot of that success this year, success
- 46:22down the field much lower than last year.
- 46:25And he's the guy that's going to he'll he'll put the ball in
- 46:27danger from time to time as well.
- 46:29So we're going to have some opportunities, again, just like
- 46:31we had against Duke, to get some picks here, turn those into some
- 46:34points. All right, anything on Calandria
- 46:38to write home about Shelton? Yeah, So apropos what Brian was
- 46:41saying, actually PFF grades him as the second worst quarterback
- 46:45on intermediate throws this season.
- 46:48He has been very inefficient there.
- 46:50And they don't they don't throw it a ton of intermediate.
- 46:53But yeah, he's he's trying a lot there.
- 46:54He's also been pressured I believe 152 times this season,
- 46:59which is fourth most among all Power 4 quarterbacks.
- 47:01So maybe that's gotten a little bit in his head.
- 47:04I'm sure that's probably impacted his performance to some
- 47:06degree. But you know, teams have a
- 47:09pretty easy time getting into them.
- 47:11And you know, UVA typically in terms of their passing
- 47:13structure, they they disproportionately go behind
- 47:16line of scrimmage and short throws a little bit more.
- 47:18So you probably see that more so than, you know, deep shots just
- 47:21because they've been, they've been so ineffective and
- 47:23intermediate and deep throws. I wanted you to bring up what
- 47:26Josh brought up here just so everybody can kind of know that
- 47:31obviously if y'all are paying attention.
- 47:33Hey Josh, yes, first of all, their second leading rusher,
- 47:38Xavier Brown, he's out the rest of the season.
- 47:41So we will not see Xavier Brown, who has been averaging 6.1 for
- 47:46attempts. He was right under 500 yards for
- 47:48the year along with three total touchdowns.
- 47:52Also 14.1 through the air. Co pace, Co pace, Kobe pace also
- 47:58hurt. They will not know a lot on him
- 48:00until the end of the year or excuse me, the end of the week.
- 48:03So not looking good there as well.
- 48:07And I know Brian, you, you kind of made a little point here.
- 48:10You wanted to mention him because he could potentially
- 48:12show up. Yeah, I mean, if he shows up,
- 48:16he's going to be the guy that that's going to have set the
- 48:19pace for them. He kind of has to in that sense
- 48:24because he is their leading guy. And if you're talking about
- 48:27going down, I believe Noah Vaughn, too, is going to be the
- 48:34next guy up. He is a sophomore and in seven
- 48:38games he has 30 carries. And you just kind of rubber
- 48:42stamp what I was saying earlier here, Robbie.
- 48:44You know, knowing Kitchens a little bit more there, if the
- 48:48wide zone is not successful, they're going to struggle.
- 48:50Everything in the offense kind of builds off the success of
- 48:52that play. So if they're struggling there,
- 48:54it's going to be a trickle down effect.
- 48:56And we saw that against SMU. We saw it against some other
- 48:58teams as as well, so. Hey.
- 49:01Hey Shelton, your pressure rate thing is absolutely on par with
- 49:05how they do. Statistically, they are 132 of
- 49:11133 and sacks allowed. They almost don't give up four
- 49:14sacks per game. So Shelton mentioned pressure
- 49:17rates. Not only are they getting
- 49:19pressure, teams are finishing them off as well when it comes
- 49:22to that. Couple more folks to talk about
- 49:24here, Bryant, I know that you wanted to hit up Malachi Fields,
- 49:29who obviously is their key guy when it comes to passing the
- 49:34ball. Shelton, I'll let you get the
- 49:36data up here, but just Ron, what are you seeing on the tape?
- 49:39And then Shelton, if you get a chance, let's talk about some of
- 49:43where he's what he's good at. Yeah.
- 49:46I mean, he's their primary threat down the field, good at
- 49:50high pointing the ball, making catches in traffic.
- 49:53So he's going to be the guy that's going to be kind of the
- 49:56beginning and end of their big play potential.
- 49:58You know, there's some a couple other guys out there that have
- 50:03you've done some things here and there, but really it kind of
- 50:05starts and ends with what Malachi feels has been doing.
- 50:09Also to note, Trell Harris hasn't been available most of
- 50:12the year. Looks like he is going to be
- 50:14available. He's kind of a very yeah,
- 50:18specific use receiver kind of on the younger end there, but he is
- 50:23a guy that is a red zone threat. So, you know, keep an eye on him
- 50:26from that perspective, especially with him coming back.
- 50:28There's a couple other guys, you know, like Andre Green and and
- 50:31Chris Tyree that are out there, but they haven't been the
- 50:33factors I think that Eva thought they were going to be this year.
- 50:37Poor Chris Tyree. Yeah, it it's, you know, talk
- 50:40about somebody that, yeah, at least Notre Dame was utilizing
- 50:44him as a as a gadget type player.
- 50:48Whether we're out of the backfield or at a true wide
- 50:50receiver spot, UVA really has not maximized his potential at
- 50:53all. It's really kind of beginning in
- 50:56with Malachi Fields from a wide receiver perspective.
- 50:59We got another guy that we'll talk about a little bit too that
- 51:02kind of supplements that. Yeah, but.
- 51:05Let's go back to Chris Tyree for a second because Chris Tyree at
- 51:08Notre Dame basically three years thousand plus rushing yards add
- 51:12another 400 in the past in three years also was a legit kick
- 51:16return specialist and everything just went this way.
- 51:23And if y'all remember when he came out, Chris, when Chris
- 51:27Tyree came out, I mean, Chris Tyree was like was like a top
- 51:30150 player that went to Notre Dame from Elsie Byrd down here
- 51:33in Richmond. And when he went to Notre Dame
- 51:37and you saw the production, it's like, well, they can't do
- 51:39everything with him, but it's like he's building his skill set
- 51:42to basically he has a chance to go to the next level.
- 51:46He's submarine that this year and what he's done at EBA.
- 51:50And it sucks. It sucks for him because he was
- 51:53a hell of an athlete. I can't remember, did he win
- 51:58back in 2019? I felt like maybe he was the
- 52:01prep player of the Year, Jeff, and I know you were doing some
- 52:04stuff with RTV back then. Was he Prep Player of the Year
- 52:07back in 2019? Actually done 20/19 was before
- 52:10my time. I don't know, but but yeah, I've
- 52:13actually, I would actually, I have a slightly different take.
- 52:15I, I think his production in Notre Dame was a little bit of a
- 52:18red flag because he averaged less yards per carry in 2022
- 52:22than Keyshawn King did behind that Notre Dame online.
- 52:26So I, I think it was more a case of like this guy was not quite
- 52:29living up to the potential that maybe some people, you know,
- 52:31thought, thought he did goes to UVA, you know, just doesn't
- 52:36really produce, you know, he's one of the lowest rated guys on
- 52:39PFF. Andre Green, another guy that
- 52:41went to UNC, came back to UVA and also is not produced.
- 52:44So what what does that say about some Virginia's skill guys?
- 52:48I don't know, but maybe that's a conversation for another day.
- 52:50Another day, were you able to find anything on Malachi fields?
- 52:54Yeah, he's been pretty solid this year overall.
- 52:56PFF likes him as the number 4 graded receiver in the ACC yards
- 53:03per catch, not eye popping, but you know, pretty solid and
- 53:08average average chef at the target about 12 yards.
- 53:10So a little bit more intermediate, not not too much,
- 53:13you know, going deep a lot. But he's he's definitely been, I
- 53:16would say, you know, their most productive overall wide
- 53:20receiver, not that, you know, the competition is particularly
- 53:23stiff, but he's kind of the one guy you want to watch out for
- 53:25the most. What a subtle, backhanded
- 53:28comments. Oh, my God, that's great if you
- 53:34didn't catch it. The wide receiver, he's a good
- 53:36wide receiver, but the competition he's playing with is
- 53:39not that stiff. That's the why is the only
- 53:40reason he's looking good, per Shelton Moss.
- 53:43All right, Brian, one more guy. Let's hit him up.
- 53:45Let's talk about Tyler Neville, the tight end.
- 53:48What you got on him? Yeah.
- 53:51I mean, when we talk about the other competition not standing
- 53:54up, I mean, Neville is what, the number 2 receiver on this team
- 53:59at tight end position. So that tells you a little bit
- 54:01about what's going on, on the UVA side of things there.
- 54:05And he's really their kind of outlet guy.
- 54:07He's the guy that's going to help them move the sticks and
- 54:09and keep the drive matriculating down the field there.
- 54:14There's a definitely big safety valve for Calandria or Musket,
- 54:17whoever we see. Again, I'm still expecting
- 54:19Calandria, but who the fuck knows at this point.
- 54:23I've heard that there's some some locker room drama going on
- 54:27with that situation. So we'll see how that plays out
- 54:30and what effect that that's had on, you know, the output that
- 54:34this team has had in the back half of the schedule.
- 54:38But now, I mean, Neville's kind of very, very balanced guy, but
- 54:40he also is is very effective in the passing game, which I think
- 54:43is where he's going to probably serve the biggest purpose in
- 54:46this game all. Righty, so there's kind of a
- 54:50quick look at the Virginia side of the ball.
- 54:52I'm going to make this real one last real quick kind of
- 54:57comparison before we get into our keys and everything.
- 55:00So I, I, I always keep up. I'm a total offense guy, not
- 55:04scoring. I always, I, I love to lean on
- 55:07Shelton for the deeper metrics, but somehow there are two, five
- 55:13and six teams meeting Saturday and somehow, even though as bad
- 55:16as their offensive line is, they are just one, one position
- 55:22behind the Hokies in total offense.
- 55:24Total offense for the Hokies is 84th.
- 55:26UVA is 85th. So just put that on there and
- 55:31let's get to the keys of the game here.
- 55:35Shelton. I'll let you Mull over a second.
- 55:37Brian, what's your key to this game?
- 55:42The key to this game is keep the damn cup at all cost.
- 55:46You know, I think when we look at the importance of this from a
- 55:50long term perspective, I I think getting the extra practices in
- 55:54for a bowl is important for this team because it is it's a team
- 55:59that is both very young and, and, and very experienced at the
- 56:03same time. So you got a lot of players that
- 56:06are out of eligibility and then you got a lot of sophomores and
- 56:09freshmen that are seeing some significant snaps.
- 56:12So I think getting those guys some extra snaps, whether it is
- 56:16helping with potential draft stock for the guys that are
- 56:19running out of eligibility, that are going to be draft eligible
- 56:21or want to be draft eligible. And then the guys, you know,
- 56:25further down the Pike, getting them some extra practices where
- 56:27they're a little bit more prepared to take on more
- 56:29leadership roles as we roll into 2025.
- 56:32And this is regardless of what happens with the coaching staff
- 56:35top down to bottom, all of these things are going to be important
- 56:39rolling into 2025. So that winning the Cup, keeping
- 56:42the Cup, getting those extra practices, hopefully getting
- 56:45another win in a bowl game, getting back to seven and at
- 56:49least saying, you know, despite everything, we didn't take a
- 56:52step back, even though we didn't take the step forward that we
- 56:55thought we saw coming. All righty, Shelton, what about
- 57:00you? What's your feet in this game?
- 57:02I'd say try to, you know, maintain some level efficiency
- 57:05on the ground game. I mean, I think if, if Vt
- 57:08struggles to run the ball, it's going to make it really
- 57:10difficult for for Pop Watson, just because, you know, now he
- 57:13played last week, teams have a week of film, you know, how do
- 57:16they adjust? You know, I think that's going
- 57:18to be a big key. I could certainly foresee a
- 57:20situation in which maybe, you know, Pop struggles under the
- 57:24under the spotlight and maybe, you know, UK rattles him.
- 57:26They, you know, they disguise coverages, they they make life
- 57:28hell for him and maybe he can adjust.
- 57:31And so if that's the case, then you got to be able to run the
- 57:33ball. So, you know, I don't know if
- 57:35you know, I, I expect tune to play.
- 57:37Obviously, you know, he he said that in the in the presser this
- 57:40week. So he's going to gut it out and
- 57:42you got to find a way to get some chunk plays.
- 57:43And I think tune and O liner are definitely going to have to, you
- 57:45know, step up and perform big time this this Saturday.
- 57:50All right. I've, I've said so much about
- 57:55the keys all year, a lot of different things.
- 57:58And it's kind of what Shelton just said right there, keep Pop
- 58:02Watson clean if he is indeed the starter, which is looking like
- 58:05that's probably going to be the potential.
- 58:09And then for the other one, what you have to kind of think about
- 58:15is we've mentioned it a couple times already is we have to
- 58:20pressure Anthony Calandria. We have to.
- 58:24And when I say that, it just means to me, if we're standing
- 58:29Calandria space pretty much all game, I think this is going to
- 58:35be potentially maybe A1 score game.
- 58:38We win. But that's the two things.
- 58:42It's keep pop clean and it's basically keep Calandria on the
- 58:46ground the whole fucking game. All righty as y'all know this,
- 58:51it's been an hour and Jonathan Tally is not here tonight.
- 58:54And Jonathan Tally had some stuff come up family wise kind
- 58:58of last minute. He was always expecting to get
- 59:01in here. I think it was about 5:00 our
- 59:02time. He messaged us, says hey, can't
- 59:04roll, something's happened. Pretty sure everything's all
- 59:07right. Usually Tally will let us know
- 59:09if more is going on, but obviously I had to ask for his
- 59:12prediction and so I'm going to leave with that real quick
- 59:14before I get to Shelton, Brian and then myself.
- 59:17And y'all. Tally's down bad.
- 59:20Tally's down bad. Tally thinks that UVA takes this
- 59:23game 28 to 21. What say you, Shelton Moss?
- 59:32I'm going to take I'm going to take Vt 31 to 21.
- 59:36I think they're going to get like a a less.
- 59:39I think we're going to get like a late field goal to make it a
- 59:41A2 score game. So that way we can live with the
- 59:44misery of Brent probably being bad at one score games.
- 59:47So, so we'll we'll avoid having one score win for the first time
- 59:52in three years. So yeah, I'll take PT.
- 59:56Brian. I wanted to pick against us so
- 1:00:00bad, but just looking at UVA and what they've done recently, I
- 1:00:05just even with if Pop Watson is the starter, I think we've got a
- 1:00:10a very good chance of coming away with the W at home in lane.
- 1:00:15Bowl eligibility of the line, Cup on the line.
- 1:00:18Give me a 3124 victory for the Hokies and Brent Pry gets his
- 1:00:26second one score victory of his tenure and you know it may be
- 1:00:33one that you know he can build on for 2025.
- 1:00:40All righty, I get to go last and as most people who know me
- 1:00:44personally, I'll probably know I am a pretty positive person.
- 1:00:49I am I am a pretty positive individual regardless what you
- 1:00:52see on here on Tuesday nights, because this is where I get to
- 1:00:56been about Hokie football, get to hold it in for a few days and
- 1:00:58let it all come out here. But I'm at the point right now
- 1:01:02in my head, I I I can't see this team win.
- 1:01:05I can't I just can't. I think right now you lose
- 1:01:08another close game where you literally had so many things
- 1:01:12that went against you. You're right there.
- 1:01:14You should have easily have taken it.
- 1:01:17So I think, and I am hoping I'm wrong and y'all can all talk
- 1:01:21shit to me next week. I'll be the happiest person to
- 1:01:24take it. I think they snapped the 26th
- 1:01:27game or 26 year losing streak in Blacksburg on Saturday night.
- 1:01:33It's a one score game. 3127 bad guys.
- 1:01:39So there it is. All righty, we'll.
- 1:01:41Split house here we'll split house split.
- 1:01:44House cuz me and Tally were dead.
- 1:01:46You know why? Cuz me and Tally last week
- 1:01:48literally said Duke were going to win.
- 1:01:51We had we had it on the notes. That was how we felt and we
- 1:01:54flipped it at the last possible second for whatever reason.
- 1:01:59Now Brian real quick got to make an announcement here.
- 1:02:04So a couple things happened. We never heard from our original
- 1:02:10winner of the pyramid. So what do we have to do?
- 1:02:14Well, we threw all the names back in there.
- 1:02:17We pressed the button and the new winner, and you have two
- 1:02:21weeks. You have two weeks.
- 1:02:23So what day will it be? 17 All right.
- 1:02:30You cannot math. 10th I can't math December 10th December 10th
- 1:02:36There you go, winner is. It is Page Valley News at Page
- 1:02:42Valley News on YouTube. Hit us up.
- 1:02:47You throw a comment in here, you can shoot us an e-mail
- 1:02:51admin@boundarycornervt.com. We will get in touch with you.
- 1:02:55We will get you your mailing information so we can get this
- 1:02:59beauty over to you. So please, please, please hit us
- 1:03:03up any way you can. We will get it out to you.
- 1:03:07All righty so we're going to move forward.
- 1:03:09We have a few more things we're going to talk about football
- 1:03:11related but as you all know it is Thanksgiving week and if
- 1:03:19y'all don't know we are some hungry people at the Boundary
- 1:03:22Corner podcast. We always eat Brian cooking up a
- 1:03:25big meal this year for his family.
- 1:03:27Two turkeys, baby. Two turkeys?
- 1:03:30Are you heading back in town or? Back to Richmond.
- 1:03:33Headed back to Richmond, eat with his family at one
- 1:03:37Thanksgiving already at my sister's this weekend.
- 1:03:40It was delicious. It was great.
- 1:03:43Obviously Thursday here in Richmond as well.
- 1:03:47We are actually my mother in law's doing Turkey dress.
- 1:03:50We're doing the whole Turkey here.
- 1:03:51So the first time doing that as a family and one of our buddies
- 1:03:57that we chat with all the time by the name of Andrew Karen
- 1:04:02through this out here. And I I want to hear it not only
- 1:04:06from us on the US here on the podcast.
- 1:04:09I want to see if y'all out there, whether Twitter, YouTube,
- 1:04:13Facebook, and it's the following and I'm going to Callie sent me
- 1:04:18his and our wonderful contributing writer, Miranda
- 1:04:20Senator third, but what is your core 4 on a plate of
- 1:04:25Thanksgiving? You only had four items you
- 1:04:27could put. What would you put?
- 1:04:29Gravy is a side. Gravy is not a side.
- 1:04:32Gravy is a spa in this situation.
- 1:04:35All right, I'm going to start with Sally first.
- 1:04:38Sally said he's going to go with the dresses and gimps and Turkey
- 1:04:41with Mac and cheese and a little sweet with the yank.
- 1:04:45I got that. Miranda, very similar here.
- 1:04:48She's going Turkey with mashed potatoes, with stuffing, with
- 1:04:52green bean casserole. Not not a sweet or Miranda.
- 1:04:56Ron Sigler. That's my turn.
- 1:04:59What's your score for? All right, all right, I got to
- 1:05:02go Turkey, got to go dressing, got to go Mac and cheese.
- 1:05:08My 4th is going to be green beans of whatever variety.
- 1:05:11So I will, I will go with some sort of green bean, whether it
- 1:05:14be, you know, with some, with some ham hocks, whether it be
- 1:05:19green bean casserole, you know, whatever form of green beans
- 1:05:22you're giving me. We'll put it on there.
- 1:05:24Jason threw it, threw a little a little aside there with the
- 1:05:28deviled eggs. He threw the deviled eggs in
- 1:05:30there. And that's got me rethinking my
- 1:05:32green bean selection. But I'm going to stick with the
- 1:05:34green beans. Oh, he goes ham.
- 1:05:37Yes, some places do serve ham. I'll be considering deviled eggs
- 1:05:42an actual side here. How There's some there's some
- 1:05:45Gray area here. I consider deviled eggs an
- 1:05:48actual side. OK, I'll consider that.
- 1:05:50I'll. Sauce and can't be put on
- 1:05:52anything. You know what then?
- 1:05:53Deviled eggs might trump green beans here, so let's go fucking
- 1:05:56doubled eggs. Ryan's going down a little eggs.
- 1:05:57He's kicking the greens to the. 2nd, thank you, Jason.
- 1:05:59Thank you. Shelton Moss, what about you?
- 1:06:03In order of preference, obviously we're going Turkey,
- 1:06:06although I am a big hand band as well.
- 1:06:07So if you want to substitute that, you can mashed potatoes
- 1:06:11and gravy. That's my number one side.
- 1:06:12You can't have a can't have a dinner without mashed potatoes
- 1:06:14and gravy. And then we'll go Mac and cheese
- 1:06:17and then we will go I guess green beans as well.
- 1:06:21Just get some, get some vegetables in there, make a
- 1:06:23little bit healthy. There you go.
- 1:06:25All right. I'm going to throw up a couple
- 1:06:26other folks here. That was my inclination.
- 1:06:29And then I saw deviled eggs. I'm like, OK, all right, all
- 1:06:33right. Your boy here not a big Deviled
- 1:06:35Legs fan? There's Josh Young.
- 1:06:39Irrespectable. Hey, Jim Casserole.
- 1:06:42Hey, Jim, with the with the cranberry sauce, the can joint.
- 1:06:48Oh, man, Jim. Jim started in the sweets
- 1:06:52earlier right here. Yeah, man, let me go up to
- 1:06:54Robbie real quick. I think you might have put it
- 1:06:56up. There you go.
- 1:06:59All right. I, I'd, I'd eventually pivot
- 1:07:01over to Robbie's version there. So yeah, we're we're good there
- 1:07:04all. Right, I am going to go as
- 1:07:06follows. First of all, Turkey and mashed
- 1:07:08potatoes, both with gravy on them.
- 1:07:10Get it on there, layer it up, make it all good.
- 1:07:14Next, something to my wife's, I love.
- 1:07:17She has a delicious corn pudding, absolutely lovely, a
- 1:07:23little sweet. Got to have it, especially as
- 1:07:25heavy as the Turkey, mashed potatoes and and gravy is.
- 1:07:33And then give me a broccoli casserole.
- 1:07:35Give me a broccoli casserole. I like.
- 1:07:37I need a little bit of cheese in my life there.
- 1:07:40Although I did have we didn't have broccoli casserole, my
- 1:07:43sisters. So I did have a giant portion of
- 1:07:45Mac and cheese, but you know, throw a little greens in there
- 1:07:48and Yep, you know, it's always fun.
- 1:07:54We'd love to hear y'all's as well because I mean I'm going to
- 1:07:59be basically starting to starting pretty much tomorrow
- 1:08:06through Sunday. Lots of football, lots of food,
- 1:08:09lots of family, a lot of good stuff over the next 5 days.
- 1:08:13Yeah, I put the turkeys in the brine just before we jumped on
- 1:08:16here. Curtis jumped on.
- 1:08:18He saw I had the the mic muted. The the camera stopped.
- 1:08:21I was. I was in there trapping the
- 1:08:23turkeys, man, getting those bad boys ready, smoking.
- 1:08:26Them or you dropping them? Oh yeah, I'm smoking both of
- 1:08:29them, getting a full 24 hour brine in there and I'm going to
- 1:08:33let them air dry out in the fridge overnight and then first
- 1:08:37thing in the morning they're on the smoker.
- 1:08:39All right, let's keep it rolling here and we will be eating good.
- 1:08:43Maybe I'll come to your house Friday and just.
- 1:08:46Eat all the rest. Plenty of leftovers, man.
- 1:08:48Exactly. Maybe I'll come over Friday.
- 1:08:49All right, let's hit it real quick.
- 1:08:51College Football Playoff poll released tonight.
- 1:08:56Obviously the chaos that happened in college football,
- 1:09:00especially down the SEC this weekend.
- 1:09:02Count throws everything, your top 4 hour as follows.
- 1:09:06Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, Penn State, Notre Dame, Miami,
- 1:09:11Georgia, Tennessee, SMU, Indiana, Boise.
- 1:09:15And then believe it or not, the 12th team is Arizona State in
- 1:09:19first team out is Clemson. And for everybody's not aware,
- 1:09:24Oregon, Texas, Miami and Boise State would get your buys home
- 1:09:32field advantages. Ohio State, Penn State, Notre
- 1:09:35Dame and Georgia would be getting home field advantages,
- 1:09:41effectively playing these other teams.
- 1:09:44Anything shocked by any of this for either one of y'all?
- 1:09:48If y'all got to see the release about two hours ago.
- 1:09:55Not really. This this was actually a little
- 1:09:58bit more predictable than last. Like last week.
- 1:10:00I felt like we had a lot to talk about.
- 1:10:01This was kind of a as straightforward as you could
- 1:10:04imagine. I mean, you could you could, you
- 1:10:06know, squabble a little bit over up one, down one, but there
- 1:10:10there isn't the egregious What the fuck are they doing there in
- 1:10:14in in this one? It's true.
- 1:10:17I I I agree wholeheartedly with you.
- 1:10:19It's like they got it right. The Big 12 is definitely
- 1:10:24officially A1 dead league. ACC potentially sneak two in the
- 1:10:29Clemson a game we're going to pick in a little while here.
- 1:10:32That game is massive for Clemson's.
- 1:10:36Yep. IU probably has life if Indiana
- 1:10:39can beat Purdue. The terrible Purdue team for the
- 1:10:42old Oaken Bucket, which is a game I almost chose, but if not.
- 1:10:48Robbie got was very right and very wrong last week.
- 1:10:51He's like, Indiana's going to get blown out.
- 1:10:55They basically did, basically did.
- 1:10:58And but they that that did not disqualify them here.
- 1:11:02He thought it, he thought it was going to, but the SEC losses
- 1:11:05definitely gave them some life. Well, it's the SEC losses to the
- 1:11:10average teams, the teams that have been basically.
- 1:11:13Meddling. Yeah, meddling.
- 1:11:15You know, you can't continue to pile again.
- 1:11:18I screamed it last week a little bit.
- 1:11:21Wins have to eventually matter. You, you, you.
- 1:11:25If a nine and three team makes it in this year, it's just going
- 1:11:28to be one of those like, well, if you're a tween team that wins
- 1:11:3210 or 11 games and you're left out, like what the fuck can I do
- 1:11:35different? I literally won 80% of my games
- 1:11:39this year and you're letting the team that won 70% of theirs in.
- 1:11:44So, you know, that's all I can say about that.
- 1:11:47So it will be interesting as we go in.
- 1:11:50I think next week's is going to be a lot of fun.
- 1:11:54True. Great point, Jason.
- 1:11:56Unbelievable point, Jason. All right, one last piece I do
- 1:11:59want to hit up before we go to big screeners.
- 1:12:03I do not know if y'all, if you aren't, you should follow Doug
- 1:12:07Bowman, who was with 247. Doug Bowman basically looked at
- 1:12:13the BT Board of visitors meeting that they had, I think it was
- 1:12:18last week, in which Tim Sands basically stated the following
- 1:12:24athletic department is basically going to get a 1% budget
- 1:12:28increase in the next couple years.
- 1:12:32Now you sit here and say that's one fucking percent.
- 1:12:37What the hell is that? Anybody know the annual budget
- 1:12:40for Virginia Tech or you know, any sort of big university like
- 1:12:44that? Anybody 1.
- 1:12:47Day Athletic Athletics. Budget.
- 1:12:49No, no, no, not athletic because it's the entire university
- 1:12:51budget right now. Athletics gets 5%.
- 1:12:56Tim Sands is basically saying it's going to go to six.
- 1:12:58But do you know how big a budget is for the school in general?
- 1:13:02I mean at least nine figures. 2.3 billion, so it's 10.
- 1:13:10Figures, yeah. Yeah, so 2.3 billion and people
- 1:13:15are like, well, what's 1%? So roughly right now the budget
- 1:13:18is like 125. It would probably go to close to
- 1:13:22140 when that happens. The other thing that's sneaky
- 1:13:27about this, if y'all don't pay any, go go read that letter.
- 1:13:31Tim Sands is making a political move to potentially get the
- 1:13:34athletic fee higher, however you feel about that.
- 1:13:39And I know Shelton, you went there, you had to pay that.
- 1:13:42I was part of your tuition every year.
- 1:13:44Not something you can never get back, but with a school of
- 1:13:4830,000 people and the amount that they have to pay if it hit
- 1:13:54the highest end, which would be $2000, basically would add an
- 1:13:58extra $32 million to the sports budget.
- 1:14:02So anybody in favor of 50 million extra dollars in the
- 1:14:06athletic department budget? Brian, you're being very quiet
- 1:14:10because I think he's about to give the take that we talked
- 1:14:12about. Well, I'm, I'm of two minds
- 1:14:16because. So let's go back in time a
- 1:14:21little bit. Let's go back to let's go back
- 1:14:25to 2000. Let's, let's, let's talk about
- 1:14:27the enrollment boost of Michael Vick of playing for the national
- 1:14:35championship. So let's talk about that and
- 1:14:38then we let's compare that to the product on the field and the
- 1:14:44idea that students should be paying more for that product.
- 1:14:50So it's it's, it's the classic catch 22 because you, you need
- 1:14:56the money to be competitive. But if you're to, if you're
- 1:15:01getting the money and you're still not competitive, you're
- 1:15:04going to have a backlash. We're already seeing that this
- 1:15:07season, right? You know, you went, you went
- 1:15:10full bore. We're talking, we're talking
- 1:15:11about the NIL situation with basketball.
- 1:15:14And we see what that looks like. We saw it last night.
- 1:15:19We've seen it the last couple games.
- 1:15:22We see where the state of of, of the athletic department is with
- 1:15:25NIL and how we went all in with football.
- 1:15:28And we're getting kind of basically the same results,
- 1:15:30right? So now you're talking about
- 1:15:34adding student fees onto that as part of essentially with budgets
- 1:15:40being commingled now between NIL and the athletic department
- 1:15:44budget, all of that could potentially go in towards paying
- 1:15:48players, you know, whatever the athletic department needs at
- 1:15:51that given time. So I think if you don't see some
- 1:15:56success in the very near term with that strategy, there's
- 1:16:00going to be a backlash in enrollment.
- 1:16:03And I know that there's other states, other schools doing it,
- 1:16:09but I think from from Virginia Tech's perspective, you're going
- 1:16:13to see some backlash. Shelton Yeah.
- 1:16:16I mean, give me whatever you want to give me on this man.
- 1:16:19Again, it's your alma mater. It's something you had to pay.
- 1:16:22It's something that's looked at. Obviously parents are going to
- 1:16:25look at it. Kids are going to look at it.
- 1:16:27Yeah, I mean, obviously, you know, you guys, you guys know,
- 1:16:29I'm, I'm a huge fan of college sports and I want, I want to see
- 1:16:32investment and and see VTV competitive.
- 1:16:34But you know, passing on the cost to the consumer is
- 1:16:36something I always have have issue with just because, you
- 1:16:39know, we're we're already paying for the tickets, the TV, the TV
- 1:16:43fees and essentially subsidizing the entire athletic department.
- 1:16:45Now we've got to pay on top of that BNIL stuff.
- 1:16:49So, and then, you know, potentially student fees, you
- 1:16:51know, adding, adding student fees, which I mean, they can't
- 1:16:53do legally because VE has a set a set fee right now.
- 1:16:57But yeah, I don't know man. I just think it when you look at
- 1:17:00big picture, you know, obviously these cause of like departments
- 1:17:02have gone by decades without having to pay players.
- 1:17:05Now they've got to reinvest that money into the players and it's
- 1:17:07created some budget shortfalls and they're they've got to find
- 1:17:10a way to make up the money somehow.
- 1:17:11So I think Tim Sands is going to be good here.
- 1:17:13I know he, you know, he's on leadership council for D1 and I
- 1:17:18think he has a good understanding of what DT needs
- 1:17:20and how to manage the money. But I just think it's
- 1:17:24unfortunate that, you know, we are in a situation like Brian
- 1:17:28said, where we're investing more than we've invested in decades
- 1:17:31and the product has not changed at all.
- 1:17:34I I also think that, you know, we're getting to the point now
- 1:17:38where it seems to me like investment in players is going
- 1:17:40to be more important than investment in coaches.
- 1:17:42But what does that look like in the intermediate?
- 1:17:45I mean, we don't know exactly. So lots of uncertainty for sure,
- 1:17:48but I would say that, you know, this is probably a time if you
- 1:17:52have like department where they're they're trying to play
- 1:17:53things safe and be calculated and and risk averse so that they
- 1:17:58are set up well for the next stage of college sports where,
- 1:18:01you know, we we're we're now paying players and it's a very,
- 1:18:04you know, very much like a kind of a pro system.
- 1:18:07And I, I trust, you know, Witt and tans and sync on that
- 1:18:10particular front. But there's going to be, I think
- 1:18:14it's, it might, it might get worse before it gets better.
- 1:18:16I guess I'll put it that way. Yeah.
- 1:18:18We're in that kind of Gray area too.
- 1:18:20And I mean, I know a lot of people.
- 1:18:23I think there's a, you know, we saw from the poll, there's a
- 1:18:27small but vocal majority that very much want Whit Babcock out
- 1:18:32of the athletic department. And there's part of that subset
- 1:18:38that very much does not think that Sayings cares enough about
- 1:18:44sports to follow through on the lip service that he's given.
- 1:18:49And I, I don't know where the reality of that actually is from
- 1:18:55a long term perspective. But when I look at Virginia Tech
- 1:18:59football and I look at kind of where we were behind, I, I, I
- 1:19:07think the problem that Virginia Tech football has is that we
- 1:19:10were behind on overhauling our recruiting for so long.
- 1:19:16We were behind on, you know, a handful of the facilities things
- 1:19:22that I think needed to be in place maybe a little bit
- 1:19:25earlier. I know facilities are kind of
- 1:19:28falling out of favor in terms of major investment.
- 1:19:31But when you look at a locker room and I know that that's
- 1:19:35that's coming, but that's put us at a disadvantage, I feel like
- 1:19:41from a just meeting the the minimum required level of, you
- 1:19:49know, power for competitive advantage from that front.
- 1:19:53So I feel like we've been a little bit behind on those
- 1:19:55things, some of those cosmetic things that I think do have
- 1:20:00small influences over, you know, players.
- 1:20:04And now we're in a situation where we've got to weigh that,
- 1:20:07investing in that, investing in staff, potentially overhauling a
- 1:20:10staff partially this offseason with still fully investing in
- 1:20:16bringing in as many high quality athletes as we can with NIO and
- 1:20:22that's a tough place to be in. It it really is a tough place to
- 1:20:26be in. It is a changing landscape,
- 1:20:28something that really we have not seen in our lifetimes when
- 1:20:33it comes to this. And again, how they go about it
- 1:20:36really over the next two or three years is going to
- 1:20:40determine where Virginia Tech stands at the end of it.
- 1:20:44And you know, we can say, well, the if the product isn't good,
- 1:20:48you know, people are going to get sick and tired of it.
- 1:20:51But but boys, I'll say this. Take a look at some of those
- 1:20:54passionate fan bases across this country.
- 1:20:57They don't have good teams. Look at Mississippi State out
- 1:21:01there all the time screaming for their team and they have not
- 1:21:05even been damn SEC championship game.
- 1:21:11Think about that. So how are you going to compete
- 1:21:14with that? How are you going to get upset
- 1:21:18and say, well, we need to just go ahead and start cutting all
- 1:21:20this stuff off? You really can't.
- 1:21:24That's my opinion. It might not be one that people
- 1:21:27like a lot. So kind of is what it is.
- 1:21:32All right, so let's move on y'all and let's get down to big
- 1:21:36screeners where it's always going to be a lot of fun.
- 1:21:39And for this week, hold up Brian, you didn't send me the
- 1:21:44four. I don't know who's winning, I
- 1:21:46don't know who's losing. Just know we're all out there
- 1:21:49floating around 500 somewhere. So if you bet with us, you might
- 1:21:53win, you might lose. That's all I'm going to say.
- 1:21:55But Brian on where you going on this one?
- 1:22:00And we're heading to College Station, baby.
- 1:22:05We are heading out there. A&M is a six point home dog to
- 1:22:12Texas. And you know what I think I
- 1:22:15think Vegas got that about right.
- 1:22:17I think it's going to be about a touchdown win for the Longhorns
- 1:22:20to give me Texas here all. Right, this is a massive games
- 1:22:24when it comes to really the playoffs implications.
- 1:22:29The winner of this game goes to the SEC championship.
- 1:22:33It's going to be Saturday night. It's going to be 112,000 people
- 1:22:36at Kyle Field. I like Texas A&M getting 6
- 1:22:40points, but I don't think they're going to win.
- 1:22:45I think Texas is going to take this by field goal. 3128 Texas
- 1:22:49wins, A&M covers Sheldon. Yeah, I think Texas is going to
- 1:22:54smack him around a little bit. I think it'll be relatively
- 1:22:57close, but Texas will cover. I just don't like the way AM is
- 1:23:00playing right now all. Righty and I am on an island
- 1:23:05here. On an island, baby.
- 1:23:07Everybody else Tally, Miranda and Jason says hook em forms.
- 1:23:11Where are we going, Curtis? We are going to Athens, GA for a
- 1:23:16little clean, old fashioned hate.
- 1:23:19Georgia Bulldogs home team getting 19 1/2 points versus
- 1:23:24Georgia Tech. And, and on this one, Georgia
- 1:23:28already locked into the SEC championship game.
- 1:23:32But I don't think they can. They cannot.
- 1:23:34They can. I'll afford to take it out of
- 1:23:36conference loss at 9:00 and 2:00.
- 1:23:37They cannot go nine and three. But Georgia Tech has fought
- 1:23:42everybody tooth and nail all year.
- 1:23:44The game last year was tooth and nail.
- 1:23:48So one thing I was looking at and I want to see where it is
- 1:23:52because I got a feeling we're going to all stick on here, is I
- 1:23:58think Haines King is going to play, which is pretty big for
- 1:24:03them. He's dated he's day-to-day, but
- 1:24:09I think 19 1/2 is too much. Georgia at some point has to
- 1:24:12decide probably to turn the The Jets off because what you do not
- 1:24:16want happening is somebody to break their leg or some serious
- 1:24:19injury happen. Give me Georgia Tech, it's 19
- 1:24:241/2. Georgia still wins, but closer
- 1:24:27than what the experts out in Vegas think.
- 1:24:31Yeah, they got this one wrong. To me, I think that's going to
- 1:24:33be about A2 touchdown win for Georgia.
- 1:24:35I think Georgia Tech's going to keep it close.
- 1:24:38You know, Georgia might pull away a little bit at the end.
- 1:24:40I don't think it's going to be, you know, worth 3 scores there.
- 1:24:43So I want to take Georgia Tech as well.
- 1:24:46Sean. Yeah, I'm taking Georgia Tech
- 1:24:48also. I just don't trust Georgia's
- 1:24:51offense enough to really kind of beat him up that bad.
- 1:24:53And I think Georgia Tech, you know, they've got enough, they
- 1:24:56got enough, enough talent to give within, you know, 3
- 1:24:58touchdowns. That defense is going to keep
- 1:25:00them in the game. It's it's going to make it
- 1:25:02pretty close. It really is.
- 1:25:05And Talley says Georgia Tech, Georgia Tech off the board, they
- 1:25:08have officially been cursed. They got the kiss of death man.
- 1:25:14The the the full BCP wagon here. All righty, let's go next down
- 1:25:22to Death Valley, Clemson, SC. This is Tally's pick y'all.
- 1:25:27And hang on, hang on. That's.
- 1:25:28Not the oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 1:25:30Let's go. Let's.
- 1:25:32Go to Shelton. Let's go 15 miles that way.
- 1:25:36We got a big a big time game this weekend in the Commonwealth
- 1:25:40Lee High playing Richmond in the first round of the FCS playoffs.
- 1:25:44For those who don't know, the FCS playoffs get started this
- 1:25:46weekend. Montana State is the one seed.
- 1:25:50They had an undefeated regular season and they are #1 in the
- 1:25:53FCS polls for the first time in 10 years.
- 1:25:55The usual behemoths of the FCS. North Dakota State is 2 seed and
- 1:25:59South Coast State is a three seed, so it should be a pretty
- 1:26:02interesting field. I think Richmond is a nine seed.
- 1:26:05So they did get seeded. The top 12 teams have a seed and
- 1:26:10yeah, some, some, you know, high ups for the Spiders this year as
- 1:26:15they try to advance past the second round of playoffs.
- 1:26:18Last two seasons for Richmond, they have won their first round
- 1:26:21games by a total of 63 points. Their head coach is Russ
- 1:26:25Huesman, who was formerly at Chattanooga and is as in his
- 1:26:28eighth season with the program. So good game.
- 1:26:32I think it'll be fairly close. The winner of this one will play
- 1:26:36Idaho all the way out in Moscow and head over to the Kiddie
- 1:26:39Kiddie Dome next week for the second round.
- 1:26:41But with all that being said, I will take Richmond.
- 1:26:44I like how they how they played in the first round of the
- 1:26:46playoffs these last couple of years.
- 1:26:47I think they'll have no trouble putting away the Mountain Hawks,
- 1:26:50and they'll advance to Idaho next week.
- 1:26:55You know what I'm riding with, I ride with Richmond as well.
- 1:26:57I got to got to keep it local here and and and ride with the
- 1:27:00with the home team. Those mountain hawk let that
- 1:27:02logo is something. I like that thing.
- 1:27:04Cool logo. Cool logo, but the spiders have
- 1:27:07always had a cool logo. My father in Give him 21.
- 1:27:20Yeah, yeah. And I think.
- 1:27:25We cursed them again. We cursed them again.
- 1:27:27We cursed. Them again if they lose.
- 1:27:29Spiders going down. If, if, if, if they do, it's
- 1:27:31going to be on us. Yeah, by the way, you from from
- 1:27:34Jason. Jason was like kind of gamblers
- 1:27:37picking is kind of betting on this game.
- 1:27:39Well, he's got to understand Shelton's love for the FCS.
- 1:27:42By the way, let's just be honest.
- 1:27:45Wouldn't it be nice to get to 1616?
- 1:27:50Nobody gets a bye. There's no more conference
- 1:27:52championship games just starts next week.
- 1:27:55They play 1, you skip 1, you play 1, you get to the bowls at
- 1:27:59home fields. I'd be down with that.
- 1:28:01I'd be sick as shit. We'll get there eventually.
- 1:28:04There we go. Eventually, yeah, it's, it's
- 1:28:07more games, it's more money. Of course we're going to get
- 1:28:09there eventually. I think, I think we'll get there
- 1:28:11once the the full power for whatever split, whatever the
- 1:28:17fuck that happens with that, whenever that officially takes
- 1:28:21place, I think that's when we'll get to 16, but we'll see.
- 1:28:24We will see. All righty, let's go next.
- 1:28:27This time we're going to Clemson, SC, where it is the
- 1:28:30Ballaloo of the Palmetto State. Also a battle in my cousin's
- 1:28:34household. Wife loves Clemson, he went to
- 1:28:37South Carolina. Son goes to South Carolina.
- 1:28:39Mom loves Clemson. I don't want to be in that
- 1:28:42house. He's never invited me over for
- 1:28:43Thanksgiving, for Thanksgiving. I will never go down there
- 1:28:46because I do not want to slip through the fighting of this
- 1:28:47game. This is a big game in a lot of
- 1:28:51senses because we mentioned just a couple minutes ago, Clemson is
- 1:28:54the last team out South Carolina.
- 1:28:56I think I had it up here in my damn web browser.
- 1:29:00Crash. South Carolina is like 15th and
- 1:29:03people are thinking that South Carolina may be able to slip in
- 1:29:06the back door and get in the playoff.
- 1:29:09I do not think that is possible at all.
- 1:29:13But Clemson's also a Sid and wait because Miami plays
- 1:29:17Syracuse and what happens if Syracuse wins and beats Miami on
- 1:29:23Saturday? I don't know, right?
- 1:29:27Y'all don't know is. That Clemson goes to the down to
- 1:29:32Charlotte. Clemson goes to Charlotte if the
- 1:29:34Syracuse, Yep, they pull it off. So Brian, what's your take on
- 1:29:40this one? You know, it's interesting you
- 1:29:44talked about South Carolina. I will say this about South
- 1:29:46Carolina is that if there's a three loss team that makes it,
- 1:29:51it might be South Carolina. Yeah, the way it's lining up,
- 1:29:55right? So if there's a three loss team
- 1:29:58that makes it, South Carolina is going to be the one.
- 1:30:00But I don't think they get past the Tigers here.
- 1:30:03I think the Tigers role, it's not going to be a big victory,
- 1:30:05but I think it's going to be about a about a touchdown win
- 1:30:07for the Tigers. I am with you on this. 2 1/2 is
- 1:30:12not enough. I think South Carolina, it's
- 1:30:15going to be a competitive game. It probably is going to be an
- 1:30:17entertaining game. The game should not be at noon,
- 1:30:20which I think it is on Saturday. That's a bunch of garbage.
- 1:30:23It should be later in the day, but you know I don't control the
- 1:30:26TV and where you put the games. Shane and the boys keep it
- 1:30:30close, but Clemson wins by 10. Give me 3323.
- 1:30:39Compounding the stakes, obviously, if Miami wins next
- 1:30:42this upcoming week, Clemson won't be able to get another
- 1:30:45chance for winning the conference title game.
- 1:30:46Which means, of course, that if the Tigers lose, their playoffs
- 1:30:50are very much in the balance. So big game.
- 1:30:52I think the team kind of knows, you know, the expectations.
- 1:30:56They've dominated this rivalry the past decade or so, lost a
- 1:30:59couple years ago. So they'll be pretty focused to
- 1:31:00like get that home win again. So I'm taking Clemson.
- 1:31:05There we go, Tally riding with Clemson as well.
- 1:31:10Miranda with the Cox. Miranda, Ron and Jason with the
- 1:31:14hey put up that Robbie message real quick.
- 1:31:16Let. Me.
- 1:31:17Find it here. Hang on.
- 1:31:20My cousin is T, He is going to be proud of you.
- 1:31:24Twizzler Go Cox. Twizzler is a story.
- 1:31:28Maybe one day, maybe a state of the program gets told.
- 1:31:32What do you think, Robbie? Can we tell?
- 1:31:34Him we got, we got about a month away, man.
- 1:31:36It might happen this year, depending on how much I drink.
- 1:31:38The story of why Robbie is known as Twizzler to my cousin.
- 1:31:42All right, where are we going next?
- 1:31:44Who is the next one? Oh, hey, State and Iowa State is
- 1:31:52Miranda's game. And I have been trying to pull
- 1:31:55this up, but my computer over here has been a pain in the ass.
- 1:31:58So the Big 12 is in flux because it's like four teams with two
- 1:32:02losses, and this is a huge one on Saturday.
- 1:32:08So no team in the Big 12 controls their own destiny.
- 1:32:13I, I will say the message that we're getting from the committee
- 1:32:17at this point is that, you know, four teams from SEC or, or Big
- 1:32:2210 or BN before 2 teams from the Big 12.
- 1:32:27That that's kind of the message. That's kind of the message we're
- 1:32:29getting right now, which is kind of, it's kind of wild, but it's,
- 1:32:33that's kind of where we are in the process here.
- 1:32:36We'll see how it plays out over the next couple weeks.
- 1:32:40But for this one, I'm rolling with Iowa State here.
- 1:32:45I think 3 at home isn't enough. If that was at 5 1/2, I'd
- 1:32:49probably still take it. I think this is going to be
- 1:32:52about a touchdown victory here for the the Cyclones.
- 1:32:55All right. Are you ready to hear the
- 1:32:56scenarios, Bron? Yeah.
- 1:32:58So watching Saturday, so if everybody wins Arizona State,
- 1:33:02BYU, Iowa State, Colorado, Arizona State, Iowa State in the
- 1:33:06championship game, if exactly 2 of that group win, the two
- 1:33:13winners will meet in the Big 12 championship game.
- 1:33:16OK, Yep, that makes sense. Yep, that makes sense.
- 1:33:20So you've ruled, you've ruled out the everybody wins or only
- 1:33:22two wins. Now give me the middle.
- 1:33:24The middle. Is a shit ton.
- 1:33:26Arizona State, BYU and Iowa State win and Colorado takes the
- 1:33:30loss. Arizona State, Iowa State,
- 1:33:34Arizona State BYU. Colorado win, Iowa State loses.
- 1:33:38Arizona State, BYU BYU Iowa State, Colorado win Arizona
- 1:33:45State loses. Iowa State, BYU.
- 1:33:50All right, here we go. Last one.
- 1:33:52Arizona State, Iowa State, Colorado wins and BYU loses.
- 1:33:57Could be either Colorado or Iowa State or Colorado, Arizona
- 1:34:05State. So they are really pulling for a
- 1:34:07BYU loss and everybody else to win.
- 1:34:11Then it comes Texas Tech has to beat West Virginia, Baylor has
- 1:34:15to beat Kansas, and Cincinnati has to beat TCU.
- 1:34:20If that's the case, Colorado, Iowa State.
- 1:34:22If Texas Tech wins and the other two or one of the other two
- 1:34:26lose, then it's Colorado. Arizona State, if I got that.
- 1:34:33No, hey. By the way, I just want to let
- 1:34:35y'all know though. But because we're going to a
- 1:34:37playoff, things aren't as important anymore to lead into
- 1:34:41the season. The whole fucking Big 12 begs to
- 1:34:45differ. Dumbasses out there.
- 1:34:48Oh I'm supposed to pick a game? Iowa State easily wins this one.
- 1:34:54Sheldon, what you got? Yeah, I think, I think the Big
- 1:34:5712 cannibalize itself a little bit.
- 1:34:59So I'm taking Gay State a big win, big win last week for them.
- 1:35:03Iowa State I there's something about him.
- 1:35:05I just don't trust him for whatever reason.
- 1:35:07So I think I think K State wins all.
- 1:35:09Right. K State wins.
- 1:35:10OK, he's got K State win. I'm trying to find the one over
- 1:35:12here where Iowa State loses Ron. Tally's got Iowa State,
- 1:35:21Miranda's rod with Shelton, Jason's riding with us Buddy
- 1:35:25all. Right, so you want the Arizona,
- 1:35:27you want to see the Arizona State BYU rematch, the Hail Mary
- 1:35:30that got caught at the three yard line might explain why you
- 1:35:34don't get in zone on that play. Oh man, last but not least
- 1:35:42would. You who would have seen this at
- 1:35:44the beginning of the season? With Jason to put possibility
- 1:35:50but who would have seen every other game that we picked has.
- 1:35:54But I'm talking about this line, Not, not, not the fucking game,
- 1:35:57but this fucking line. No, no.
- 1:36:03Couldn't see that happening. 3 1/2 maybe, but not that big.
- 1:36:07But it's kind of funny Jason comes over here and chooses this
- 1:36:11game. A massive line and the only one
- 1:36:14that has nothing riding on it. Nothing matters.
- 1:36:16Nothing fucking matters in this game.
- 1:36:19So go ahead. This is for pride of Florida,
- 1:36:22baby. Hey folks, welcome back to
- 1:36:48another week of guitar licks and gambling picks.
- 1:36:51It is rivalry week and I wanted to send some good vibes down to
- 1:36:55Blacksburg for the Hoagies. Hopefully they can finish the
- 1:36:59season off on a high note get themselves bowl eligible.
- 1:37:02Unfortunately, Virginia does not allow you to bet on in State
- 1:37:06Games, so therefore I'm going to have to pick another game and
- 1:37:09for that I'm looking down to Florida Tallahassee specifically
- 1:37:14for the match up between Florida and Florida State that growing
- 1:37:17up this used to be my favorite game of the year.
- 1:37:20Both of these teams used to be really good.
- 1:37:23They would usually be in the top five and the winner often went
- 1:37:26to the national championship game.
- 1:37:28None of that is true this year, however, Florida has turned
- 1:37:32things around quite significantly that a big win
- 1:37:35last week against Ole Miss Florida State however, is
- 1:37:38wrapping up what has to be called the season from hell.
- 1:37:41My guess is they want to end it as quickly as possible and I
- 1:37:45think that's exactly what Florida is going to do to them
- 1:37:47this weekend. So therefore I am taking Florida
- 1:37:50-13 1/2 on the road against Florida State, which of course
- 1:37:59means I get another chance to play some Tom Petty.
- 1:38:35Oh yes, you do.
- 1:38:53All right folks, let's go Gators -13 1/2 and let's go Hokies.
- 1:38:57I'll see you all next week for Championship week.
- 1:39:02All righty, he's going Gators laying a bunch of points.
- 1:39:07Brian, what are you doing? I'm doing the exact same damn
- 1:39:11thing because Florida State cannot get out of their own way.
- 1:39:14Florida's really kind of looking a lot better in the last month
- 1:39:18or so. So I feel a little bit confident
- 1:39:21about that. I think, you know, 17 points
- 1:39:23sounds about right for that victory there.
- 1:39:25I think the Gators will take care of business.
- 1:39:28I think 17's being nice and generous because.
- 1:39:33Rivalry factors in there. Rivalry factors in there, but I
- 1:39:36get you. I think Florida State's quit
- 1:39:37all. Right, Florida State beat
- 1:39:40Charleston Southern 34 to 3:00 last Saturday.
- 1:39:44Charleston Southern is was one and nine, 1:00 and 9:00.
- 1:39:49You knew what the score was with about two minutes left in the
- 1:39:52first half. I sent it to you.
- 1:39:55Yeah, Yeah, do. You see, Sheldon, it was three
- 1:39:58to nothing. Yeah, Water State, it was three
- 1:40:00to nothing. Gators by at least 28.
- 1:40:08I do, I do think Florida State will come out more motivated
- 1:40:11than they have been in previous games, but I just, I don't think
- 1:40:14they stand even remotely any sort of chance.
- 1:40:17I think I think Florida's a lot better than people think.
- 1:40:19You know, they've, I obviously feel like neighbour has been the
- 1:40:21subject of much criticism, but you know, he's done a really
- 1:40:23good job turning that chip around, keeping things afloat.
- 1:40:25They've got a couple of really big wins these past two weeks.
- 1:40:27So I think Florida State or Florida, excuse me, rolls
- 1:40:30easily. Yeah, I mean, really good effort
- 1:40:32to keep that, that ship going because, you know, with some of
- 1:40:37the expectations attached to Florida just being Florida and
- 1:40:40kind of the way that season started off, they could have
- 1:40:42easily just kind of, you know, checked out mid to late October
- 1:40:46and they didn't do that. So kudos to them.
- 1:40:49Tally's riding with you with us as well.
- 1:40:52So is Miranda, and obviously we know what Jason's doing.
- 1:40:54So across the board here, taking Florida, is this the kiss of
- 1:40:59death? I mean, that's what that's three
- 1:41:01that we've 3. Put the big board up there.
- 1:41:04You always have it ready. Put the big board up there.
- 1:41:06So three across the board we've got.
- 1:41:09Two islands. Yeah, two islands and then we
- 1:41:12got the yeah 4/2 with the Iowa State, K State.
- 1:41:18If you bet with us this week, you pretty much bet with
- 1:41:21everybody. We all, we're all going to
- 1:41:23suffer the same fate one way or the other.
- 1:41:25And I think these, you know, like we said, most of these
- 1:41:27games have some stakes attached to them, except for the last
- 1:41:29one. And the last was just a, a fun
- 1:41:31one to to look at. You got a, you got a weird line
- 1:41:34in a rivalry game, but you got a team that, you know, in Florida
- 1:41:38that's been playing a lot better and you got a team in Florida
- 1:41:40State that's basically been checked out since the middle of
- 1:41:42October. So it's.
- 1:41:44True. It's going to be kind of weird
- 1:41:45to see where that one goes, but it's, it's a, it's a fun slate
- 1:41:48this weekend, I think. I mean, it's always awesome to
- 1:41:51have Jason pull out the Telecaster and play some.
- 1:41:54Yeah, yeah. We, we hadn't got that all year.
- 1:41:56We wouldn't, you know, mostly. And you know what we found out,
- 1:41:59though? What's that?
- 1:42:00You. Can play the Telecaster and
- 1:42:02record it for the live stream. It is not.
- 1:42:05It sounds great. Yeah, Kelly sounds great, Jason.
- 1:42:09Yeah, keep that. Shut up, y'all got anything else
- 1:42:12y'all want to hit before we wrap this up and head into the head
- 1:42:17into the most consumed alcohol day of the year?
- 1:42:22Yeah, Wednesday, guys. So it's, and I, you know, I
- 1:42:24don't know if it's still this way, but when, when me and
- 1:42:28Curtis were coming up, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving
- 1:42:33was like one of those like just fun, fun nights.
- 1:42:37You always ended up like waking up to a hangover, whether you,
- 1:42:41whether it's like high school or, or or college, coming home
- 1:42:43to visit, you wake up with a hangover.
- 1:42:46You got, you know, smell the food starting to cook.
- 1:42:48You got to go down there and like nurse your hangover while
- 1:42:52you're helping out with food and getting the house ready for
- 1:42:54folks to come over. So it's, it's, it's a fun day.
- 1:42:57I hope everybody consumes responsibly tomorrow and, and
- 1:43:01Thursday if they, they plan on partaking with families.
- 1:43:04So just want to say happy Thanksgiving to everybody out
- 1:43:08there and we're going to see if the Hoagies can can get both
- 1:43:12eligible this Saturday. Sheldon.
- 1:43:16Go Hokies. Go Hokies.
- 1:43:19Yeah, everybody. Talk about this real quick.
- 1:43:21Do we want to talk before we wrap it up?
- 1:43:23Matt Brown got fired today but he gets to coach against NZS 8
- 1:43:26and he gets to coach the ball. We don't get to coach ball game.
- 1:43:28Probably not, no. I I think they left that
- 1:43:32undetermined, but more than likely no.
- 1:43:36I mean. It's not a shocker.
- 1:43:38I mean, it's surprised it didn't happen a couple years ago.
- 1:43:41It's surprising it didn't happen a couple years ago.
- 1:43:43It's surprising that it happened mid season after they rolled
- 1:43:46into the season with, you know, sticking with them.
- 1:43:49I thought they if they started the season with them, they were
- 1:43:51going to end with the season with them.
- 1:43:52All things considered. There I mean it.
- 1:43:56It's not quite the, you know, the graceful transfer of of
- 1:44:00power here. You know, Mac, you know, for
- 1:44:05the, yeah, all the shit that I think we've given Mack and we've
- 1:44:09given Mack a bunch of shit. I mean, he didn't have to come
- 1:44:11back to UNC and give this thing a go.
- 1:44:13So, you know, kudos for the effort there.
- 1:44:21But it'll it'll be nice having some of that that recruiting not
- 1:44:24in our backyard again. We'll see what, what UNC, you
- 1:44:28know, pulls out of their ass in terms of their next head
- 1:44:30coaching hire here. But they're kind of one of the
- 1:44:34one of the 1st, you know, P4 teams out the gate looking for
- 1:44:39a, for a head coach here rolling in the offseason.
- 1:44:42So they have a, you know, pretty good position to be in from that
- 1:44:47perspective. Yep.
- 1:44:48And the only thing, let me tell you, the first thing I did when
- 1:44:51they I saw you was fired, I went to the UNC coaching page.
- 1:44:56Is anybody worth a shit here that we can hire?
- 1:44:59That's all I did that is TVD. Curtis said Mack Brown,
- 1:45:04consultant to the head coach. He's never been a she's been
- 1:45:07never been that shitty of your game manager could tell price
- 1:45:09somewhat. I was also looking position
