  Speaker 1: All this week we're on a very interesting topic, thinking

  Speaker 1: about things to look for in a dating relationship or

  Speaker 1: in a marriage partner.

  Speaker 1: This is for all of you young adult listeners, right?

  Speaker 1: Things to look for in a dating relationship or in

  Speaker 1: a marriage partner. We're giving it through five C's, and

  Speaker 1: they go in order of importance. Most important, this.

  Speaker 1: person is a Christian, they also are a believer in
• 0:57
  Speaker 1: Jesus Christ, and you have that foundation to build your

  Speaker 1: marriage on, right? The most important thing in your life

  Speaker 1: is also the most important thing in their life. God

  Speaker 1: is there to help you through the struggles of life.

  Speaker 1: The second most important thing you're looking for is that
• 1:16
  Speaker 1: they are committed.

  Speaker 1: They're not just a Christian. They're really committed to God.

  Speaker 1: They put God at the centre of their lives. They're

  Speaker 1: still growing. They're still struggling, but this is their commitment

  Speaker 1: that God will be at the centre of their lives,

  Speaker 1: that when God speaks through Scripture, that's it. He is

  Speaker 1: guiding their lives.

  Speaker 1: The third thing you're looking for is character, that this

  Speaker 1: person has the kind of character you want to build

  Speaker 1: a lifelong relationship with, right? They're committed to their convictions,

  Speaker 1: they also are a person who is kind, loving, and dependable.

  Speaker 1: Their character is strong.

  Speaker 1: The 4th, the 4th most important thing you want to

  Speaker 1: look for in a person you're dating or considering marrying

  Speaker 1: is that they are competent.

  Speaker 1: So, we read a little bit yesterday from the book

  Speaker 1: of Proverbs where the writer of Proverbs talks about an

  Speaker 1: excellent wife, right? Here's what he says, Proverbs 31, starting

  Speaker 1: in verse 10. Let me read you a few of

  Speaker 1: the verses here. We looked at the verses having to

  Speaker 1: do with character yesterday. Let me read some of the

  Speaker 1: verses that reflect the importance of competence in a marriage.

  Speaker 1: It says an excellent wife who can find she is

  Speaker 1: far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband
• 2:45
  Speaker 1: trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain.

  Speaker 1: She does him good and not harm all the days

  Speaker 1: of her life. She seeks wool and flax and works

  Speaker 1: with willing hands. She's like the ships of the merchant.

  Speaker 1: dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong. She

  Speaker 1: perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not

  Speaker 1: go out at night. She's still working hard.

  Speaker 1: She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands
• 3:27
  Speaker 1: hold the spindle. She opens her hands to the poor
• 3:30
  Speaker 1: and reaches out her hands to the needy, and on
• 3:34
  Speaker 1: it goes. Well, in some ways this paints a picture
• 3:37
  Speaker 1: that no woman can live up to, right?

  Speaker 1: And probably if you're a woman you're hearing this description,

  Speaker 1: you're thinking, wow, I could never do all those things,
• 3:47
  Speaker 1: but here's what he's saying.

  Speaker 1: What makes an excellent wife hard to find and so precious,
• 3:55
  Speaker 1: more precious than jewels and makes her heart, the heart
• 3:57
  Speaker 1: of her husband so happy is that she's competent, right?

  Speaker 1: She can do what is needed to be done for
• 4:08
  Speaker 1: her household, and it's the same for a woman who
• 4:11
  Speaker 1: is looking for the right husband.

  Speaker 1: He is competent. He can provide what is needed to

  Speaker 1: be provided. He can do what is needed to be
• 4:21
  Speaker 1: done to raise the kids, to take care of the family.

  Speaker 1: When you find a competent person who is also a
• 4:29
  Speaker 1: committed Christian, a person of character, well, you've gone a
• 4:34
  Speaker 1: long way to finding the right person for a life
• 4:37
  Speaker 1: partner and the right person to start dating to see
• 4:40
  Speaker 1: if you're compatible, right.

  Speaker 1: So here are your sees. First, they are a Christian. Second,
• 4:48
  Speaker 1: they are committed to God. Third, they are a person
• 4:52
  Speaker 1: of character. And fourth, they are competent. They will be
• 4:57
  Speaker 1: able to be what they need to be as a partner,
• 5:01
  Speaker 1: building a home, raising your kids in life.
