- Kiki George: What happens when one stays out a little bit too late and gets into all manner of trouble? This is the Minor Mischief Podcast and this is the unkind deeds of Andrelius Flex. Welcome back. Welcome back. I see you're back again. Thank you. Welcome back to another episode of the Minor Mischief Podcast. I'm your host and home girl for the time being, Mrs. Kiana Amir. And thank you. Thank you for hanging out with me. For the past few episodes, we've had to take giant leaps back in time. So today we're gonna come back to the present. We're gonna be very much in the here and now. We're going to snap back to reality, unfortunately, because reality is G H E T T O right now. It's just too damn much. I'm tired. I know y'all are tired collectively as a nation and as a world and as a human race, we are tired, honey. But let's dissociate. Let's talk about somebody else's problems. And without further ado, let's get into today's story, shall we? We shall. Today we're heading over to Kansas City, Missouri. And in Kansas City, we meet Andrelius Fleck, who is our mischief maker, and Kenneth Hutt, who is the star of our show, but also unfortunately our victim. Every episode, I like to give a little bit of what's the town known for? What do they do over there? But I feel like, I feel like Kansas City is kind of well known. So I'm just gonna do a quick like, did you know? Did you know that Kansas City has over 200 fountains, earning it the nickname the City of Fountains? Did you know? Kansas City hosts America's official World War One World War One Museum. Cause that was World War War. It was about to take me up out of here. WW1. Did you know that Kansas City hosts America's official WW One museum? Did you know Kansas City hosts the Negro League's baseball museum, which preserves the history of early professional black baseball? Did you know? Kansas City has a very lively jazz music scene. And finally, did you know? Kansas City is known for its world famous barbecue, hosting over a hundred barbecue joints in the metro area alone. And everything in me, like for all the reasons I just named, because I love a good fountain. I would love to go to the Negro League Museum. I would love to go to like a nice lounge or a nice restaurant. where they're playing jazz music or doing like poetry. And I would love to try the Kansas City barbecue. I've never been, but one of our network partners at my job, at my day job, because you know this is my five to nine. one of my network partners is in Kansas City and they had sent over like a barbecue box and it was when I tell you that brisket, that brisket put me on a high that I have been chasing ever since. And my husband's brisket is good. Don't get me wrong. That man makes a good brisket. But that Kansas City brisket, off the charts. There's also another place in Florida called The Polite Pig. Their brisket was pretty good. It's a chain, so it's not like it's not like a mom and pop smoke, like smoke shopper, you know, whatever, like a barbecue hut. I don't know what they're called, but their brisket was really good. That's all I'm saying. I was gonna say I would be willing to go to Kansas City for all of the reasons named above, but after I got done researching this story, I'm like, y'all gonna have to keep mailing me barbecue boxes because are we safe? In Kansas City, we meet Andrelius Kevon Fleck, who was born on April 22nd, 2008. And not much is known about his childhood, his parents, his upbringing, where he went to school. Does he have siblings? Do you know the muffin man? Like, I could not find anything on this man's backstory. But what I did find was an article from 2020, May 2020 to be exact. He was 12 years old when he allegedly ran away from home. Cause there was like a huge, like missing, like, hey, have you seen this kid? He has been gone for a couple days. We're looking for him. He was last seen here wearing this. So I found a lot of those things. And there was no published reason why he left. And it was pretty much case closed. Like they found him a couple days later. He was safe. He was unscathed. They were like, here go your kid. you know, call us, I guess, if he leaves again. And that was it. Case closed. And that brought me to the question of was there something at home that he was running away from, or was there something on the streets that he was running away to? And that is a question that I did not find the answer to. I look for an Instagram page, no dice. I did find a Facebook page though for one Andrelius fleck, but there wasn't really any information on the page. You know Sometimes when I'm researching these cases, I go on the Facebook pages because, you know, typically they'll do status updates or like, hanging out with my cousin. You can typically you can learn a lot from someone based on their Facebook page. Not mine though. It's all random quotes and random stuff. But in a lot of these cases, you're able to find that information. But his page was just a picture of him with two other people. With masks on, with their middle fingers up, and that was it. He had like three friends, and I'm pretty sure it was his page. Cause I mean, how many Andrelius flecks are there? Like, I only found one. But let's head to the year 2025, which is all very fresh in our mind. And Andrelius is 17 years old, and it's August 21st, 2025. And he's out and about for the night. I'm not even sure what day of the week it was. I ain't even gonna hold you. Hold on. Let me let me look. Because this was just last year. I don't even got to go too far back on the calendar. It would have been a Thursday. What was he doing out on a Thursday night? So it's August 21st and he's out and about. And it's a little bit before 10 PM. And he was seen driving this gray niece on Altima. And he pulls into the parking lot of a Waffle House located at 4404 North Antioch Road in Kansas City. And he sees a young man and his girlfriend leaving the establishment. So they're in the Waffle House, this young man and his girlfriend. Let's call them Devin and Denise. We're making up names, but you know, just for the sake of storytelling. So Devin and Denise, they're at the Waffle House, and you know, they're doing what people do at the Waffle House. They they eat, they have a good time, they probably racca, you know, they're laughing, having a great time. And so Denise walks out and Devin leaves right after her. And I don't know if Devin had a brand new iPhone. I don't know if he was, you know, Gucci down to the socks like I'm Biggie Papa Baby. Like I don't know what this man had on him. I don't know if he had a very nice wallet. I don't know if he had a very stacked wallet. I don't know if he had an iPhone 17 before iPhone 17s came out. We're not sure the motive. But Androlius walks up to this guy and he's just like, Give me your phone. So the man runs back inside, jumps behind the counter and hides behind a female server. Andrelius follows him inside. He I guess had a scope, like a light attachment on his gun, and he points it right at the server's chest. And so she is just like, I have nothing to do with this. Like I just I am just here. And you know they say if you work at the Waffle House, you better know how to fight, but baby, you cannot fight a bullet. And so she's like. Surprisingly calm to be honest and the scope light is on her chest and she is just like, I have nothing to do with this, like, you know, do what you want to him, but leave me out of it. And Angelius, he walks closer to her and he demands this man's phone. He's just like, Give me your phone, like right now, with the gun pointed at him, give me your phone right now, or I will shoot you. Hurry up. And so the server's like, you know, she doesn't say anything to the guy, but she's very obviously looking like, if you don't give this man your phone. And so they at this point realize Andrelius is very serious. And so the guy gives his phone to him. And Andrelius turns around and he leaves without further incident. So police arrive to the scene of the Waffle House. They question the man, they question the server, and then they obtain the surveillance video of the incident to gauge who they're looking for. And just a quick sidebar, right? Because I know y'all heard me say that that man walked out of the restaurant with his lady friend. And he ran back in the restaurant after Andrelius came and pointed the gun at them and hid behind a female server. I'm not trying to make light of the situation, so give me some grace here. But I genuinely reading this, I was like, I know that man did not leave his lady. Like he took off. He took off. But he hid behind another woman. and granted, maybe she was the only person working, maybe but I'm like not. She couldn't have been the only person working, 'cause there's always at least two or three people working at the Waffle House. And I don't even eat at the Waffle House and I know that 'cause there's always someone on the grill, someone at the register, and someone that's just kind of like tending to the tables. And yeah, he went and he hid behind her. Like he would that would have been our last like that would have been our last day coupled up. That would have been our last day coupled up. I'd have like, Love Island, baby, I got a text. There would have been a recoupling because there's no way. There's no way I was about to stay with a man that left me for dead. I can't like you really ran. I'm not saying you had to be the hero. Like it would have been okay had you just given him the phone right then and there and been like, hey, just leave me and my lady out of it. That would have been fine. I would have had much respect for that. But you really took off and left this girl. And this is not even what the story is about, but it's just like the audacity, I think. I'm still very shocked by because you left your girl and then you went in and hid behind another woman. I would have been done with his ass so fast. He would not have to worry about me. In the police report, I would have pulled a Riley Freeman in his letter to Santa. Like I would have like, hey, and don't forget to write my man was a bitch nigga. No, no, no. Scratch that, scratch that. My man was a bitch ass nigga. Like, I promise you, I would have been Riley Freeman. Regardless, the police asked questions to the server and to the young man. They told them what they know, and then they kind of went about their business. So the armed robbery investigation is going on. They're, you know, following leads. They're trying to figure out what's going on here. And now it's two weeks later, on September 6th, 2025, it's eleven thirteen PM, where we meet 23-year-old Kenneth Hutt. Now, Kenneth was born around 2002, and unfortunately, there's not a whole lot published about his upbringing either. Usually, like I said, in these cases, you can find some quotes from parents. You can find, you know, like their siblings that talk to the media that was just like, they were an amazing person, and blah, blah, blah. Not blah, blah, blah. Scratch that. Because, like, let's be so for real. He is a human. He is important and his life does matter. But typically, you can find You can find something referencing the family or referencing what he was like. And I was not able to find that information. But I did read his obituary. And according to his obituary, he was a family man. And he had at least two children because it said that he was a great father to his children. So there had to be a more than one. He was said to be the life of the party. He really kept people laughing. He really enjoyed the outdoors and being surrounded by nature. That's really where he found his peace. Like if you were looking for him, he was outside taking a deep breath and just being one with nature. He enjoyed being out. He enjoyed hanging out. He loved his family very much. He loved his children very much. And that, you know, is the legacy that he left behind. So it's September 6th, and Andrelius and his friend Jordan Vasquez, they pull up to the gas station in the same gray Ultima that Andrelius pulled up at the Waffle house in. Now, Andrelius is 17 years old. I want to put that out there. Cause I don't think we usually I'm just like, they were this age at the time. At this, at the time of this story, Andrelius is 17 years old. So he's driving the car, he pulls up to pump number five, he gets out. Him and his friend Jordan, they walk into the store, they pick up some snacks. And Jordan, you know, turns to Android and he's just like, Don't worry about paying, you know, don't worry about paying paying, bro. I got this. And so he takes his phone and he waves it on the I guess the POS system, the cash, you know, the what what is the thing called? He's using tap pay. It's late and I'm tired. Please do not judge me. So he does his tap pay and it's like, ooh, declined. And so he does it again. And it declines again. And so Andrelius at this point, he's like, Bro, like, it's cool. I got a few dollars on me. He pays for both of their items in cash. And he's just like, Keep the change, it's all good. And the two walk out of the store and back to the gray Nissan Ultima. And so Kenneth pulls up to the gas station around eleven nineteen p.m. He's driving a light green Chevy and he gets out of the driver's seat and he has, you know, what looks like a pistol tucked under his left arm as he walked into the store. Now, do I blame Kenneth in any way, shape, or form for walking into the store with his pistol? Absolutely not. It's 11:19 PM and you don't know who's outside. So he walks up to the cashier and he's kind of like just shooting the breeze with the cashier. He's just like, hey, you know, how you doing? you know, he greets a few people around the store. And Andrelius and Jordan, upon seeing Kenneth walking into the store, they spin the block. They're like, we're going back into the store. So they're seen walking up behind Kenneth. And Andrelius at this point is holding like a Glock style firearm and Jordan pulls out a small AK and hands it to him. So the whole time they're behind, you know, Kenneth, Kenneth is talking to the cashier. He's just like, you know, maybe I should and I'm just this is just me adding, you know, my own little twist here. He's probably like, you know, give me a couple of them scratch offs. Give me, you know, whatever people get from behind the counter. And Andrelius and Jordan, as Kenneth is talking to the cashier, they're like whispering back and forth to each other. And Jordan gives Andrelius the AK at this point. And so Andrelius reaches under Kenneth's armpits to grab his pistol. And so Kenneth spins around and he's like, I think the hell not. And so a struggle ensues, and they're both like, you know, Andrelius is trying to take Kenneth's gun and Kenneth is trying to regain control of his gun because he's like, I know for a fact if I let this go. You're gonna go off with my firearm and then what's gonna happen? So they're struggling, they're going back and forth. Kenneth is trying to, you know, keep his gun. Andrelius is trying to take Kenneth's gun and pry it away from him. And so they're going back and forth just for a very little bit. Like the whole exchange was just maybe two or three minutes. And I guess Andrelius at this point, he's just like, All right, I'm not getting anywhere with you. And then he does the unthinkable and he takes the automatic firearm and he fires at Kenneth. multiple times. Kenneth then drops to the ground. Andrelius grabs his pistol and him and Jordan run out of the convenience store and drive away. I think they said it was a circle K, but I could not find the article where I read that. So I'm just gonna say convenience door, but I do think it was a circle K. So police were dispatched and they arrived to the scene at 1125 PM Now remember, Andrelius got there initially at 1113 PM Kenneth got there at 11.19 p.m. This all happened. Police get to the store at 1125 p.m. So this was all very fast. Unfortunately, by the time police and EMS arrived to the scene, Kenneth was pronounced dead at the scene. Police questioned those present at the gas station and they're just like, wait a minute. What even happened here? Like this just seems nonsensical. Like, you know, we have someone. That's passed, you guys are saying that they didn't know each other. Like, do you have surveillance cameras? And so the store clerk is like, yes, we actually do. I can, you know, get my manager, you can, you know, have the footage, whatever the case may be. And surprise, surprise, the store actually had surveillance cameras that worked. Because seriously, how many times have you guys heard of cases where it's just like, they had surveillance cameras but they didn't work? You know? they had surveillance cameras, but they weren't pointed. in the right place. It's taking me back to the Kendrick Johnson case, excuse me. But so detectives, they get the surveillance tape and in the surveillance tape they can clearly see the gray ultima driving away and they document the license plate number. Now the court records in this were heavily redacted. So they did not publish names. They did not publish the license plate number. They went by initials. So they run the plates which come back registered to someone with the initials K E. And so they're just like, Great, we got our first break in the case. Let's go find this woman. So they find this woman, you know, and they they're questioning her. And they're just like, you know, you look very familiar. And she's just like, and they realize that this woman that owns the gray Nissan Ultima that Andrelius has been driving around Kansas City is the same woman whose boyfriend was robbed by Andrelius two weeks ago. And so they're just like, where is he at now? And she's just like, I don't know, riding around in my Ultima, I suppose. And so to my knowledge, there were no charges brought up against the young lady. Because by all means, like, we can all say she set that man up. Like Were they I don't know if it was her current boyfriend or her then boyfriend because when she was questioned, she did admit that she had been dating Angelus. And I'm interested to know her age. I'm really interested to know her age, but that was not published. But yeah. I'm not sure if he was the current boyfriend, if he was the ex-boyfriend, if they dated previously but kept in contact, if they dated previously but were just really good friends. But like I said, to my knowledge, there were no charges brought up against the young lady for this. But with her information with the information that she gave them, they now have a name of at least one of the suspects that they're looking for. So it's September 9th, 2025, and police spot a black male matching Andreas description driving the same damn Nissan Ultima. And I'm like, girl, how much is this man driving your car? Because if this is my car, we should not see you in my car more than me. That like we should not Is very much giving baby boy when Jody kept going off in Yvette's car. I you know, no, because yeah, you can probably put gas in it, but are you paying anything else on it? Are you paying my insurance? Are you paying, you know, my oil changes? Like nobody should be seen in my car more than me. I'm so sorry. Ain't no freaking way. And I'm married. And my you will never see my husband in my car more than me. And my car is in his name. So it's like, hello? Regardless, it's September 9th. The great Nissan Ultima goes past police and they're just like, That looks like that kid we're looking for. And so they start following the car. They didn't turn on lights or anything. They're just like, you know what? Let's just follow it for a little bit, see where it goes. And so the car begins driving toward the intersection of Emmanuel Cleaver, the second boulevard and Forest Avenue, where there was a police checkpoint that was set up. And so Andrelius is pulling up to the checkpoint, and I guess he looks around and is just like, I am not gonna be able to get past this checkpoint without going to jail. And so as he's rolling up to the checkpoint, he puts the car in park, jumps out, and starts running for his life. And the police start chasing him. He was caught shortly after the chase began, arrested, and charged with the second degree murder of Kenneth Hutt. He was taken to a local jail where he awaited trial and was given a bond of five hundred thousand dollars cash. The judge specified cash. I don't know what that means. And I'm sorry, that's that's bad research work on my part. Because I was curious, like, what is like what does that mean? If if you have a cash bond, does that mean that you have to come up with the entire five hundred thousand dollars? Cause I know usually it's ten percent, but even fifty thousand dollars is a lot of cash to come up with, you know? But they placed him on a five hundred thousand dollar cash bond, which spoiler alert, he was unable to make. And on December eighteenth, two thousand twenty five, the Jackson County juvenile court system made the determination to charge Andrelius as an adult. So he sat in jail awaiting trial up until May 2026, when Andrellius was like, you know what? I'ma just go ahead and plead guilty. Like, I did it. You know I did it. They know I did it. I really don't have a dog in this fight. Y'all got me on tape. Y'all got the car. I was driving the car when y'all arrested me, like You know what? I did it. I'm guilty. So be it. And so with his guilty plea, Andrelius was sentenced to twenty years for Kenneth's murder. He was also sentenced to three years for armed criminal action to be served consecutively for a total of twenty-three years. Kenneth Hutt's murder was the one hundred and twelfth homicide in Kansas City in two thousand twenty five. A large number But not uncommon for Kansas City as their statistics were the same in 2024. And in August 2026, they there have been 106 homicides in Kansas City. For reference, Charlotte, North Carolina has had 40 homicides. All five boroughs of New York City have had 149 homicides. Los Angeles has had 140 homicides. And Chicago had 265 homicides year to date. That's why earlier in this episode, I was just like, I would really love to go visit Kansas City. And I still might, because I'm not, I'm not a scary person. Like me, I live with the belief that, and it's probably an inaccurate belief. I believe there's someone out there that's gonna say, no, that's not true, because innocent people get caught in things all the time. And that is true. That is very true. actually, yes, that has happened to someone in my life. But I typically go with if I'm not bothering you, you should not be bothering me. But Chicago, what y'all got going on? What do y'all have going on? 265? When New York City, all five boroughs had 149 and y'all had 265. I was like, dang, Charlotte. We clearly Charlotte is a very safe place because we don't like apparently don't compare. But yeah, I'ma leave y'all in Chicago to y'all shenanigans. When asked why the crime among youth in the Kansas City metro area is so prevalent, Brandon Price, pastor of the Uplift Worship Center, located diagonally from where Kenneth's shooting took place, he answered, quote, We feel like it's a community that has needs but don't have as much support as some of the other metropolitan areas. And so crime has been escalating and getting closer to home. We really need to look at that. The city doesn't have any sustainable options for recreation. and resources for our children. End quote. Which so basically he was saying, like, the kids are bored. There aren't enough after school programs. There aren't enough, you know, there aren't enough resources. There aren't enough things for them to do to stay out of trouble. And so they turn to the streets and they get into these situations and these crimes happen. And I do believe that there likely is some correlation I have not done the research, so I don't know very much. But one thing I can say, 'cause like I mentioned, Charlotte had forty homicides. That's still not a great number because that's at least five per month, because we're in August. But one thing I can honestly say about the Charlotte metro area is there is a lot. It's very family oriented. There's, in my opinion, there's a lot for kids to do here. That's why I chose to live here, because there's a lot to do here. There's like a lot for my kids to do. There's a lot to do on the weekends and I do feel like it's important it's very important to keep your kids involved. It's very important as a kid to be involved because that saying that the idol mind is a devil's playground is a very real thing. I'm sure that there are tons of involved moms and dads in Kansas City. But if you don't have the programs and things to place your child into, then they're really left up to their own devices. And unfortunately, you know Being outside was the device that Andrelius chose and it's just very sad because he's so young, seventeen. Which brings me to where are they now? Andrelius was sentenced to an additional thirty years in prison because they attached the Waffle House robbery charge to his second degree murder charge, but it will be served concurrently. So he'll do thirty years total, which would place him around the age of forty seven, if not a little bit earlier for his release. He's currently serving his sentence at the Jefferson City Correctional Center. Jordan Vasquez, he did not get away without a charge. He was with Andrelius and he did provide the gun, which he was also charged with second degree murder. His trial is scheduled for February 2027, and y'all know I'm about to be locked in because I really do want to see how that's gonna go. Kenneth's family does have an open and active GoFundMe. It was for his funeral expenses, but it is still open. I am going to link it in the caption if anyone is interested in donating because we can't just share his story without actually offering help. You know, that's not who we are as people. And that brings me to my final thoughts. I feel like I got into my final thoughts a little bit. But I just think it's very important to keep your kids involved. And it's something that I struggle with, honestly, because when I work all day, the last thing that I want to do is get off of work and shuttle my kids to practices. But this year is the first year that all of my children have been involved in like extracurricular activities and I have seen a difference in them since having something to do. Cause previously, like they were getting home, I was getting home, we would all get home around the same time. We would lay on the couch, veg for a little bit, watch TV, they would be on their phones doing TikToks or whatever. And then we would go to bed and get up and do it all over again. And I do feel like since they have extracurriculars now, they're actually more productive. Like I thought they would get out of their programs and be like, Ugh, I'm tired, I don't want to do anything. But I find them being sharper. I find them being more like I guess they have an outlet now, so like they don't even bicker as much right now. And so I just think it's very important to to really allow them to express themselves and However, if they want to do arts, if they want to do sports, if they want to do like for a while there, my son was really into robotics. That was his thing. So but, you know, to the pastor's point, not every area has that, you know? because when we lived in Asheville, we didn't really have a ton of things to do after school. Like I it was to the point where I was begging. Like neither of their schools had after school programs. My son did track. But track practice got out at four. So it's like he still had the whole freaking evening to do nothing. And I didn't get off of work till five. So it was just like he had this hour of just kind of hanging out with his friends, doing God knows what, but praise the Lord, he never got in trouble, you know? and I remember just looking, like asking, because I was like, Hey, my son gets off at four. I really would like to know what I can do. And I called and I looked at all these programs and there really was nothing. There really was nothing. Like There was one program at the YMCA which ended up getting disbanded because one of the counselors was being inappropriate. And like I said, I I can just see the difference in the same kids who had extracurricular activities versus didn't have extracurricular activities. And I like them better when they have extracurricular activities, honestly. And so I am curious if like Because for me, I don't ever want to complain about a problem without wondering what the solution may be. And so it does make me wonder if maybe there are like inner city youth programs that just need funding or, you know, I'm just interested to how that goes. So please let me know in the comments. Anyone from Kansas City, anyone that's familiar with that, anyone that's just like, hey, there's this program, maybe they don't have it, but it's something that they can maybe start. I'd be very interested to know that. But outside of that, that's the end of today's show. I know it was a quick one. It was a very short story. The case files was heavily redacted, but I was just very interested in what would make a 17 year old do this. Like it was completely unprovoked. It was completely senseless. And I know, like, in this show, literally, I feel like all of the crimes were senseless. There was only the one, and I'm not gonna share which one that was, where I was just like, still senseless, but I understand. Every other one, I'm like, y'all really like there was no rhyme or reason. There there was no motive. Like, what was the motive? You wanted his gun? Okay, he wasn't giving it to you. Move on. But then I feel like it also becomes kind of like a pissing match for respect because it's like you see me trying to rob you and you not you not being robbed, right? Like and I'm not making excuses. I'm not saying like that's the way to go 'cause it's not. But also it's like it does become like your mind will play tricks on you and it'll make you feel like someone is doing something to you that they're not. Because he could have really just eaten the attempted robbery charge coupled with the charge from the Waffle House, but he did get 30 years for that. I mean, he got 30 years regardless. So it's like at least you could have had 30 years and Kenneth could have still been alive. You know what I'm saying? but that's today's show. Follow me on TikTok, Minor Mischief Pod. Thank you very much. My therapist is proud of me. I'm proud of me. And thank you guys for rocking with me. Like it really does mean a lot to me. And I'm just, you know, praying that the show continues to grow and just continues to raise awareness and like I said, my main goal in doing this show is just hoping that as adults or even as children because there are younger people that listen to the show as well, I'm hoping that it brings us to a place where we can start to notice the signs and just intervene a little bit. Just and it doesn't always work. Don't get me wrong, because I remember in Tara Korea McMullen's case, the intervention was there. Like her mom intervened, her job intervened, everyone around her intervened, but she was, you know, I don't want to say, but she was determined. She didn't know how to get out of the lifestyle that she had found herself into. But I feel like if we can save a life or just turn one child around, then we did a great thing. So Thank you all for listening. I will see you next week. And until then, stay mischievous, friends.
