- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: It's almost famous podcasts.
- 0:07Speaker 3: And today we're getting the chat with a woman we
- 0:09Speaker 3: fell in love with. She can dance, she can ride
- 0:13Speaker 3: a unicycle, and she worked on the bomb Squad for
- 0:18Speaker 3: Crying Out Loud.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 0:20Speaker 3: She's beyond cool. Today we're chatting with Golden Bachelor's Peg Munson.
- 0:25Speaker 4: All right, Peg is on the line, guys, and I
- 0:28Speaker 4: want to ask our bomb diffuser, like do you do
- 0:33Speaker 4: mission impossible like things?
- 0:36Speaker 1: Oh?
- 0:36Speaker 5: My god, which one you guys?
- 0:38Speaker 4: I know, the most dramatic, the most Vegas.
- 0:41Speaker 6: Oh, the most Vegas is we had a love triangle
- 0:44Speaker 6: go back in Vegas in the nineties.
- 0:47Speaker 5: Yeah, it was a love triangle. I'm telling you.
- 0:49Speaker 6: So it was some guy was dating the chick, but
- 0:55Speaker 6: the chick had the boyfriend. But the husband was involved,
- 0:59Speaker 6: So I think it was the boyfriend was suspicious and
- 1:04Speaker 6: they cut The boyfriend caught them, found out she was married.
- 1:07Speaker 6: He worked at the Luxor hotel. You guys could google this.
- 1:10Speaker 6: It's all over.
- 1:11Speaker 5: You know, it's on the internet.
- 1:12Speaker 6: But in long story short, the guy got pissed off
- 1:15Speaker 6: hired a bomb maker out of South America. So the
- 1:18Speaker 6: guy made a bomb. So when the guy came out
- 1:21Speaker 6: of the Lexor Hotel to finish his shift, he saw
- 1:25Speaker 6: a seven to eleven coffee cup on his car, right,
- 1:28Speaker 6: just a normal seven eleven coffee cup.
- 1:30Speaker 5: So the guy picked it up and as he picked
- 1:32Speaker 5: it up.
- 1:32Speaker 6: It's a pressure plate. Picked it up, boom, it went
- 1:35Speaker 6: off and killed him. There was a pipe bomb inside
- 1:38Speaker 6: of the coffee cup. So yeah, so that.
- 1:41Speaker 5: Was my it was.
- 1:42Speaker 6: That was uh yeah, that was a very interesting let's
- 1:45Speaker 6: put it that way. That was a very interesting call.
- 1:47Speaker 6: So it was a love triangle gone bad.
- 1:49Speaker 5: You guys.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Lesson for all of our listeners and myself included, if
- 1:53Speaker 3: you find some foreign object sitting randomly in a place,
- 1:59Speaker 3: I guess, don't touch.
- 2:00Speaker 5: No, don't touch it, don't touch it. We've had we've
- 2:05Speaker 5: had baby.
- 2:06Speaker 6: Diapers bags, you know, bags like you know baby bag
- 2:10Speaker 6: diapers that used to carry when you were you know
- 2:12Speaker 6: you got a kid diaper bags, No, thank you.
- 2:14Speaker 5: Diaper because it's been a long time. Can you tell
- 2:18Speaker 5: a diaper bag explode?
- 2:20Speaker 6: You know, we've had briefcases explode, backpacks explode, you know,
- 2:24Speaker 6: coffee cups explode. Yeah, they'll they'll figure out where to
- 2:27Speaker 6: put a bomb anywhere. So yeah, yeah, don't touch it.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I'm going to be on edge. I'm going to be
- 2:34Speaker 2: on edge.
- 2:35Speaker 4: You're going to me too. I would never think not
- 2:37Speaker 4: to move a cup from my yeah, hold of my car.
- 2:40Speaker 5: Yeah, don't piss me off, you guys.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Yeah, you've got creativeness. Hey, you dm us saying that
- 2:47Speaker 3: you wanted to come on and speak and share the truth.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Why was it so important for you to share the
- 2:53Speaker 3: truth with us?
- 2:55Speaker 5: Well, you know what, there's been a lot of things
- 2:57Speaker 5: going on.
- 2:57Speaker 6: Cindy said this, this one said that, that one said
- 3:00Speaker 6: yeah this, And it's kind of like remember that game
- 3:03Speaker 6: that you guys we played when we were kids. Everybody
- 3:05Speaker 6: sat in a circle and you started out with the
- 3:08Speaker 6: person saying I had a peanut butter and jelly salafant,
- 3:11Speaker 6: thank you telephone, And the time you got back around,
- 3:13Speaker 6: it was like you're you're riding a pink elephant, you know.
- 3:18Speaker 5: Yeah? Serious?
- 3:20Speaker 6: Right, So you know, look, I love all the girls,
- 3:23Speaker 6: I love Cindy, but you know there's some things that
- 3:27Speaker 6: had happened and I had just gotten to look, I'm
- 3:30Speaker 6: a really really you know, I love deep and I
- 3:33Speaker 6: love hard. I really do and I'm a protector. Look
- 3:35Speaker 6: what I did for a living. I protect people. If
- 3:38Speaker 6: I love you, I will literally give my life for you.
- 3:41Speaker 5: I really will. That's just my nature. And I will
- 3:43Speaker 5: take so much.
- 3:44Speaker 6: But then there's a point to where I'm like, Okay,
- 3:46Speaker 6: that's enough, that's enough, that's enough. And there just was
- 3:49Speaker 6: some things that were said though just they were not true.
- 3:52Speaker 6: They just and you guys are going to have Mail
- 3:53Speaker 6: on on Monday, and so you guys, can you know,
- 3:56Speaker 6: talk to him about those things because I don't want
- 3:58Speaker 6: to speak for him. I don't want to speak for Sin,
- 4:00Speaker 6: but I know, you know, there's things that happened that
- 4:05Speaker 6: she said that just are not through and it just,
- 4:08Speaker 6: you know, I don't know, you guys, I'm at the
- 4:10Speaker 6: point to where it's like, you know, live and let
- 4:12Speaker 6: live whatever. I'm at that point where honestly it really
- 4:17Speaker 6: doesn't matter. I mean her, her experience on the show
- 4:20Speaker 6: is her experience. Mail's experience on the show is Mel's experience,
- 4:24Speaker 6: and my experience on the show is my experience. There
- 4:27Speaker 6: are some things I can't talk about because of the contract.
- 4:30Speaker 6: And you guys understand because you come from this world
- 4:32Speaker 6: that I just you know, I cannot say, so I'm
- 4:35Speaker 6: just gonna leave it at that. You know, I did
- 4:37Speaker 6: text her at Thanksgiving and I asked her just to please,
- 4:40Speaker 6: you know, stop talking, because, you guys, it started to
- 4:42Speaker 6: hurt my heart. I'm gonna be honest, it hurt my heart.
- 4:44Speaker 6: It's like, why is she saying this stuff? She and
- 4:47Speaker 6: what really bothers me the most, you guys, is that
- 4:50Speaker 6: And you guys come from the Bachelor world. I got
- 4:53Speaker 6: to spend twenty four hours with Meil, she got fifteen
- 4:56Speaker 6: hours with Mail. How the hell do you know somebody's
- 4:59Speaker 6: character at fifteen hours or twenty hours? You just don't
- 5:03Speaker 6: so to speak about somebody's character or my character.
- 5:06Speaker 5: You don't know us.
- 5:07Speaker 6: You know, you don't know me, and you really don't
- 5:09Speaker 6: know Mail. You know, you really don't And that's the truth.
- 5:13Speaker 6: And that's why I asked her that whole text at Thanksgiving.
- 5:15Speaker 6: It was like, Hey, I hope you're having a beautiful
- 5:17Speaker 6: time with you and your family. Can you please just
- 5:20Speaker 6: talk about your own experience. It got to me, It
- 5:22Speaker 6: got like.
- 5:23Speaker 5: You don't know him and you don't know me, so
- 5:25Speaker 5: please don't talk about our characters when you really don't
- 5:27Speaker 5: know us. You know that.
- 5:29Speaker 6: Fifteen hours that you got to spend with somebody, that's it.
- 5:32Speaker 5: That's all you know. And come on, you know, it
- 5:35Speaker 5: takes a long time to get to know somebody. So
- 5:38Speaker 5: that's what that was. And in a nutshell, you guys.
- 5:41Speaker 4: Was it our podcast that she said something specifically that
- 5:45Speaker 4: set you off?
- 5:47Speaker 6: Well what happened was She's just she kind of went
- 5:49Speaker 6: on all these podcasts, there's like several of.
- 5:52Speaker 5: Them, and I just, you know what, Honestly, in my heart.
- 5:55Speaker 6: I'm gonna be really honest with you guys, I just
- 5:57Speaker 6: wish she would have had a little bit more grad
- 6:00Speaker 6: attitude and humility and grace. You know, look, we all
- 6:04Speaker 6: went on this show. You know, we all knew what
- 6:06Speaker 6: we signed up for, right, we all did. There's going
- 6:09Speaker 6: to be one person at the end. And I always
- 6:12Speaker 6: said in all my interviews, her idea of love was
- 6:15Speaker 6: just different than my ideal of love and different from Mells's.
- 6:18Speaker 5: Idea of love.
- 6:19Speaker 6: She truly wants to get married, and God bless her,
- 6:22Speaker 6: she has every right to be married. But as sixty
- 6:25Speaker 6: two years old and at seventy sixty seven years old,
- 6:28Speaker 6: we know better. We are like, that's not reality. I
- 6:31Speaker 6: don't want to be another Bachelor Nation statistic.
- 6:34Speaker 5: I really don't, you know. It's like, oh, I love you,
- 6:36Speaker 5: get down.
- 6:36Speaker 6: On one knee, and then you know, a week or
- 6:39Speaker 6: months later it doesn't work out. I honestly came to
- 6:43Speaker 6: this platform to really to find a guy that, honestly,
- 6:47Speaker 6: I'm going to be honest with you, that I could date.
- 6:49Speaker 6: I didn't want to get married because I don't know
- 6:51Speaker 6: how am I going to marry you when I don't
- 6:52Speaker 6: even know you? I mean to me, to me, that's insanity.
- 6:56Speaker 6: I don't want you proposing to me when I don't
- 6:59Speaker 6: even know who you are.
- 7:00Speaker 5: Are you know, I've got to like you.
- 7:01Speaker 6: I've got to know you before we take that next step,
- 7:04Speaker 6: and that takes time.
- 7:06Speaker 3: The interesting thing I'd love for you to elaborate a
- 7:09Speaker 3: little bit on your what you said there is her
- 7:11Speaker 3: idea of love was different than your ideal love.
- 7:14Speaker 2: What did you mean by that?
- 7:16Speaker 5: Well?
- 7:17Speaker 6: When when Melan I had that opportunity to go into
- 7:20Speaker 6: the fantasy suite with no cameras and no mics, you know,
- 7:24Speaker 6: that was a really good opportunity to really find out
- 7:27Speaker 6: if this is a person that I could even date.
- 7:30Speaker 6: And that's where I'm at come on, I'm sixty two
- 7:32Speaker 6: years old, you guys. I've been engaged, I've been married.
- 7:35Speaker 6: You know, we have life experience. And I don't live
- 7:39Speaker 6: in fantasy land.
- 7:40Speaker 5: I just don't.
- 7:41Speaker 6: I live in the reality, in the real world. And
- 7:44Speaker 6: so getting to the fantasy suite and being able to
- 7:47Speaker 6: really let down your guard and really talk about what
- 7:50Speaker 6: you want. Who are you, what are your goals, what
- 7:52Speaker 6: are your ideas? You know, what are you thinking? Because
- 7:55Speaker 6: I don't want to do it for TV. I wasn't
- 7:58Speaker 6: there to do it for TV. I was there to
- 8:00Speaker 6: do it for.
- 8:00Speaker 5: Me, you know.
- 8:01Speaker 6: And I told mail you guys at hometowns, I said
- 8:05Speaker 6: to him, because he said to me, at hometowns, he goes,
- 8:08Speaker 6: look the cameras are off.
- 8:10Speaker 5: He said, look, you know, at the end, I really
- 8:12Speaker 5: hope it's you.
- 8:13Speaker 6: And I looked at him and I said to him,
- 8:15Speaker 6: then get us to the fantasy suites, because if you
- 8:18Speaker 6: really feel that way, then get us to the fantasy
- 8:20Speaker 6: suites so I can so I can get to know
- 8:23Speaker 6: who you are, because not only you know, he's there
- 8:26Speaker 6: to find a girl, you know, a gal. I'm there
- 8:28Speaker 6: to find a guy. But are you the right guy
- 8:30Speaker 6: for me? And am I the right girl for you,
- 8:32Speaker 6: and that opportunity you guys, that we had at the
- 8:34Speaker 6: Fantasy Suite, that was That's what did it for us.
- 8:37Speaker 5: That's what kind of put us over the edge.
- 8:39Speaker 6: To really have that time without TV land around and
- 8:43Speaker 6: really get to know this person.
- 8:46Speaker 4: You mentioned about like her having fifteen hours and like
- 8:49Speaker 4: you not knowing her and her not knowing you. I
- 8:52Speaker 4: could understand you saying that you don't know the lead
- 8:56Speaker 4: in that amount of time on the main show, but
- 9:00Speaker 4: I feel like you do get to know the girls
- 9:02Speaker 4: and that you're living with, especially if you're the two
- 9:05Speaker 4: that get to the end, so you still feel like
- 9:07Speaker 4: you didn't really get to you didn't really know.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Come on, you guys.
- 9:10Speaker 6: No, that was we got what, uh ten days in
- 9:13Speaker 6: the house with each other, and.
- 9:15Speaker 4: You know how precison shorter than ours.
- 9:18Speaker 6: Yeah, yah, that's right exactly, And it was I mean,
- 9:20Speaker 6: we got ten days in the house together maybe and
- 9:23Speaker 6: when we when that whole is like it was about okay,
- 9:27Speaker 6: let's say I'll give it fourteen days. But we're doing things.
- 9:30Speaker 6: Everybody's going on dates. You guys, you know how it
- 9:32Speaker 6: works with production, It's like this they've guided it down
- 9:36Speaker 6: to a science and.
- 9:37Speaker 5: Your go go, go go, And so do you really
- 9:40Speaker 5: get to know somebody in two weeks?
- 9:42Speaker 6: You tell me, you guys, do you really get to
- 9:44Speaker 6: know somebody in two weeks? Then when we went to hometowns,
- 9:47Speaker 6: I didn't see any of the girls. They keep us
- 9:49Speaker 6: sequestered away from each other that whole entire week. And
- 9:52Speaker 6: then when we went to Antigua, they keep us sequestered
- 9:55Speaker 6: as well, So I didn't see Mail, I didn't see
- 9:58Speaker 6: you know, Cindy, you only get to see that person
- 10:01Speaker 6: that production wants you to see and to talk to.
- 10:04Speaker 6: They're running a show, you know, and that's the purpose
- 10:06Speaker 6: of the show, you know, that's the that's the you know,
- 10:09Speaker 6: it's a dating show, and they have their way of
- 10:11Speaker 6: doing things. So, no, she doesn't know who I am.
- 10:14Speaker 5: She to this day she doesn't know who I am. Yeah,
- 10:17Speaker 5: and I don't really know Cindy.
- 10:19Speaker 3: The I would have to imagine walking through this, and goodness,
- 10:23Speaker 3: it's been years. I'd have to imagine though, that once
- 10:26Speaker 3: you got to the fantasy suites and the two of
- 10:28Speaker 3: you sat down and had the conversation of I don't
- 10:30Speaker 3: want to get married, and you're saying I don't want
- 10:33Speaker 3: to get married.
- 10:33Speaker 2: I want to date you.
- 10:35Speaker 3: That would be a difficult conversation for I'd say ninety
- 10:41Speaker 3: nine percent of the seasons that have existed, because most
- 10:43Speaker 3: of the seasons you go into it and the fans
- 10:45Speaker 3: go into it believing that the lead is ready excited
- 10:50Speaker 3: and wanting to get married. I mean, that's what makes
- 10:52Speaker 3: the Bachelor, Bachelor, app Golden Bachelor different than all the
- 10:56Speaker 3: other reality.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Shows out there.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Right there, there is the idea that, hey, we are
- 11:01Speaker 3: finding our forever partner potentially on the show. And it's
- 11:04Speaker 3: worked for some and not worked for many, but it's
- 11:07Speaker 3: the idea of the show. So to have that conversation
- 11:10Speaker 3: would be a bigger deal at the time than maybe
- 11:14Speaker 3: it seems today. Can you give us a little bit
- 11:17Speaker 3: of insight into how that conversation went, how you knew
- 11:21Speaker 3: it was even a conversation mel would be willing to have,
- 11:25Speaker 3: and for him to know that you'd be willing to
- 11:27Speaker 3: have it.
- 11:28Speaker 6: Well, it's interesting, you guys. Okay, here's the thing. Eleven percent. Statistically,
- 11:32Speaker 6: if you guys have done your research, only eleven percent
- 11:35Speaker 6: of couples worked out in twenty years.
- 11:37Speaker 5: That's only eleven percent. That's it.
- 11:40Speaker 6: Okay, so why are we in our sixties, you guys
- 11:44Speaker 6: that we've been married, we've been divorced, right, We've had families,
- 11:48Speaker 6: we have jobs, we've had careers, we've sent our kids
- 11:50Speaker 6: to college. We've done all the things that are supposed
- 11:53Speaker 6: to be done. We've checked all the boxes. So when
- 11:56Speaker 6: you guys come back to me, when you guys are
- 11:57Speaker 6: sixty years old, and I tell you, honestly, this conversation
- 12:00Speaker 6: will be a lot different because what you learn over
- 12:03Speaker 6: life there is no forever.
- 12:05Speaker 1: You know.
- 12:05Speaker 6: I've talked to my girlfriend on the phone last night
- 12:08Speaker 6: and she was married for thirty five years. My best
- 12:10Speaker 6: friend from high school who signed me up for the show,
- 12:13Speaker 6: she lost her husband, he was a firefighter to cancer.
- 12:16Speaker 5: And she said, you know, Peg, I realized one thing.
- 12:19Speaker 5: There is no forever. There's just not.
- 12:21Speaker 6: You can be married, you can have families, and you
- 12:24Speaker 6: can love, and you can have this wonderful life.
- 12:26Speaker 5: But you know what, somebody's going to die.
- 12:28Speaker 6: Either you're going to outlive your spouse or the other
- 12:31Speaker 6: spouse is going to outlive you, or you divorce. So
- 12:33Speaker 6: this fantasy, you guys that we grew up with with
- 12:37Speaker 6: Disneyland and the Princess and the night in white shining
- 12:41Speaker 6: armor is going to come save us.
- 12:43Speaker 5: It's not real.
- 12:44Speaker 6: The reality of life is is you've got to date,
- 12:47Speaker 6: and you've got to know somebody.
- 12:49Speaker 5: And I honestly really.
- 12:50Speaker 6: Do believe in my heart if people would have taken
- 12:53Speaker 6: take more time to get to know people, the divorce
- 12:56Speaker 6: rate would be a lot less because people jump in
- 12:59Speaker 6: and they jump in with this fantasy and the and
- 13:01Speaker 6: all the hormones are raging and all that, you know,
- 13:04Speaker 6: the infatuation, and it's just not real. And like I
- 13:08Speaker 6: said in the show, you guys, what I've learned in
- 13:10Speaker 6: my sixties is I'm really looking for that fireplace. I'm
- 13:13Speaker 6: not looking for the fireworks. I've had the fireworks, you guys.
- 13:16Speaker 6: I've had engaged, you know, two times, married for twenty
- 13:19Speaker 6: something years, and I realized that slow burn is what
- 13:23Speaker 6: makes a mature, sustainable relationship.
- 13:27Speaker 5: And That's what I'm looking for.
- 13:29Speaker 6: And that's the conversation that Melan I had together in
- 13:32Speaker 6: the fantasy suite.
- 13:44Speaker 4: How many women in your season do you think had
- 13:47Speaker 4: similar mentalities or do you think that most of them
- 13:49Speaker 4: were romanticizing the experience a lot a.
- 13:53Speaker 5: Lot If you if they a lot of them, they
- 13:55Speaker 5: shared that with me. They're like, I don't know. I
- 13:57Speaker 5: don't know if I want to get get married. I
- 13:58Speaker 5: don't know.
- 13:59Speaker 6: Yeah, because it's like we have our own lives. We've all,
- 14:03Speaker 6: you know, we're single women. And there was a lot
- 14:05Speaker 6: of professional women there as well, you know, and we're
- 14:08Speaker 6: used to having our own space, our own life, we
- 14:11Speaker 6: make our own money, we have our own gig.
- 14:14Speaker 5: So there was several of them. Yes, definitely, and it
- 14:18Speaker 5: would make sense.
- 14:19Speaker 3: It does make sense to me that in the Golden
- 14:22Speaker 3: franchise less would be ready or excited. Well, there's multiple factors. One, yes,
- 14:30Speaker 3: you've been through it. I would also say that I
- 14:34Speaker 3: think a factor of people being ready for marriage would
- 14:36Speaker 3: be that they're in their sixties and they're like, hey,
- 14:38Speaker 3: I want to try this again.
- 14:39Speaker 2: I want to do this again.
- 14:40Speaker 3: I want to jump into it again because I want
- 14:42Speaker 3: somebody to be a partner with. As you know, this
- 14:45Speaker 3: really fun new chapter opens up for me, and so
- 14:49Speaker 3: I could see where people are like, no, I do
- 14:51Speaker 3: want to get married. That is something important to me.
- 14:53Speaker 3: But I do think the expedited timeline of the show.
- 14:56Speaker 3: I do think the factor of most people coming into
- 14:58Speaker 3: this with past relationship behind them lessons learns. I could
- 15:03Speaker 3: see where Les would be excited about it. But and
- 15:09Speaker 3: maybe this is just because it's season two. I think
- 15:11Speaker 3: so many people are still watching The Golden because they
- 15:14Speaker 3: want to see these love stories play out. They want
- 15:17Speaker 3: to see it happen on their televisions. That's why, you know,
- 15:20Speaker 3: maybe a lead says yes to her, or why a
- 15:23Speaker 3: contestant comes on the show because they're ready. And so
- 15:26Speaker 3: I think the question out of that would be why
- 15:29Speaker 3: would Mel be the lead of this show? And why
- 15:34Speaker 3: would you go on to this show if that wasn't
- 15:37Speaker 3: your intention.
- 15:39Speaker 6: Here's the thing, you, guys, I have about ten girlfriends right,
- 15:43Speaker 6: being born and raised in Las Vegas, I have a
- 15:44Speaker 6: lot of girlfriends, a lot of girlfriend and groups. And
- 15:47Speaker 6: the truth about the matter is they've lost their husbands,
- 15:49Speaker 6: all ten of them, right, like to death and or
- 15:53Speaker 6: well some of them.
- 15:54Speaker 5: Have gotten a divorce.
- 15:55Speaker 6: But the majority of us were like, we really don't
- 15:57Speaker 6: know if we want to be married again.
- 15:59Speaker 5: We really don't know. There's no reason to be married again.
- 16:03Speaker 6: I don't need your money, I don't need your house,
- 16:05Speaker 6: I don't need your car, I don't need kids.
- 16:07Speaker 5: We're past all of that.
- 16:09Speaker 6: Why why do we have to succumb to the pressure
- 16:14Speaker 6: of society to be married, to have a love story.
- 16:18Speaker 5: To me, that's crazy.
- 16:20Speaker 6: Look what we've been doing, you guys, have you been
- 16:22Speaker 6: watching us. We've been to Toronto, We've been to Detroit,
- 16:25Speaker 6: we have been to Rio de Janeiro for three weeks.
- 16:28Speaker 6: We're going to the super Bowl. We've been here in Vegas.
- 16:31Speaker 6: We've been to the Sphere, we've been to concerts. That
- 16:34Speaker 6: why do you have to put it? Why do you
- 16:36Speaker 6: have to put it in a box to make it okay?
- 16:39Speaker 6: Why can't a love story be free? Why can't you
- 16:43Speaker 6: choose every single day to be with that person, Like
- 16:46Speaker 6: you know, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn they've been together
- 16:49Speaker 6: for how many forty.
- 16:51Speaker 5: Years and they're not married.
- 16:53Speaker 6: So you know this constraint of that you've got to
- 16:56Speaker 6: do it this way or it's not real, it's crazy.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Well, I'm not saying it's not real. Goodness, that's not
- 17:03Speaker 3: at all what I'm saying. I'm not saying it's not real,
- 17:05Speaker 3: and I'm not saying you're succumbing to society. I'm saying
- 17:09Speaker 3: My point was the concept of the show is that
- 17:13Speaker 3: you are walking into the mansion to, you know, get
- 17:18Speaker 3: on one knee and to propose to somebody, so I
- 17:21Speaker 3: get out of that would be peg. Do you recommend
- 17:23Speaker 3: that the Golden franchise specifically has a different idea of
- 17:30Speaker 3: love or that the ending maybe is expected to be
- 17:33Speaker 3: differently than the other seasons where people are more intentional
- 17:40Speaker 3: and I want to find my forever person and I
- 17:41Speaker 3: think this is a great place to do it.
- 17:43Speaker 5: That's a good point. That's a really, really, really good point.
- 17:46Speaker 6: It really is, because I think when you're younger, you guys,
- 17:49Speaker 6: we all have that oh my god, I want the wedding.
- 17:51Speaker 6: Oh my god, I want the family, Oh my god,
- 17:53Speaker 6: I want to find you know, my guy, and you
- 17:55Speaker 6: live a little bit more into your romanticize it, you
- 17:58Speaker 6: know what I'm saying.
- 17:58Speaker 5: And that's just normal natural.
- 18:00Speaker 6: You know, when you're younger, we have all these you know,
- 18:03Speaker 6: these hopes and these dreams, and especially for women, I
- 18:06Speaker 6: think we have a more so than men. So I
- 18:09Speaker 6: think what happens with the Goldens, what you're finding you guys,
- 18:12Speaker 6: is we're a little bit We're much more realistic because
- 18:15Speaker 6: we've been through life.
- 18:16Speaker 5: Look what happened to Gary and Teresa. How well did
- 18:19Speaker 5: that work?
- 18:19Speaker 6: Out, they were engaged and got married and divorced three
- 18:22Speaker 6: months later. So we only have three, you know, we
- 18:25Speaker 6: only have what we're on our second seasons of the Goldens.
- 18:29Speaker 6: So and Joan and Chalk are not married yet, you know,
- 18:31Speaker 6: and I heard her talk about it, you know, and
- 18:35Speaker 6: at this moment in their relationship after one year, they're
- 18:39Speaker 6: not ready to be married either as well.
- 18:42Speaker 5: So I think that's a really good point, you know.
- 18:44Speaker 6: And I think for the Goldens we have we get
- 18:47Speaker 6: to write our own story. We earned it, We earned it.
- 18:50Speaker 6: We have been through some shit in life, you know
- 18:53Speaker 6: what I'm saying. So why not be able to have
- 18:56Speaker 6: what we want to have and not? You know, you know,
- 18:59Speaker 6: Carol has been making fun of the promise ring, and
- 19:01Speaker 6: she's been doing all these little videos and mocking it
- 19:04Speaker 6: and everything. And that's fine, and that's wonderful, but you
- 19:06Speaker 6: know what, you guys, it's not about and as you
- 19:09Speaker 6: guys know, it's not about a piece of paper.
- 19:11Speaker 5: It's not even really about a wedding.
- 19:13Speaker 6: It's about you showing up every single day and being
- 19:16Speaker 6: the best person that you can be for your family,
- 19:19Speaker 6: for your mate, you know, and you know, take it,
- 19:22Speaker 6: look at it from that viewpoint, and you know, one day,
- 19:25Speaker 6: if you decide to get married, great, and if you don't,
- 19:27Speaker 6: that's okay too, you know. And I think the Goldens
- 19:30Speaker 6: have a right to do that. We get a right
- 19:32Speaker 6: how we want to have our love story.
- 19:35Speaker 5: I really do. And that's a really good point.
- 19:37Speaker 6: And that's something that I think going forward with the
- 19:40Speaker 6: next season, I think you're going to see a lot
- 19:42Speaker 6: of different things, a lot of creative things, you know,
- 19:45Speaker 6: that come up that people are going to do. Get engaged,
- 19:49Speaker 6: don't get engaged, get a promise ring, get a commitment ring.
- 19:52Speaker 1: You know.
- 19:52Speaker 6: But our relationship is going strong and it's fun and
- 19:55Speaker 6: it's exactly what I wanted, and it is exactly what
- 19:58Speaker 6: he wanted at this point our life in our sixties.
- 20:02Speaker 4: You guys make a lot of sense, especially as we
- 20:05Speaker 4: hear you talk today together. You make a lot of
- 20:07Speaker 4: sense together. You're very logical, you're very grounded. And I
- 20:14Speaker 4: was just thinking about how Cindy was just totally you guys.
- 20:19Speaker 4: Couldn't have been more opposites except for your eye color,
- 20:21Speaker 4: because holy holy, like the two of you with the
- 20:24Speaker 4: eye color is absolutely unreal, sparkling diamonds in there.
- 20:28Speaker 2: But yeah, so with.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Cindy and the fact that I think that Mel very
- 20:35Speaker 4: much knew that he wanted to choose you in the end,
- 20:38Speaker 4: but he still he still got quite annoyed that Cindy quit,
- 20:43Speaker 4: as he likes to point out that she quit and
- 20:45Speaker 4: he did not like the fact that she stopped the process. Short,
- 20:48Speaker 4: why do you think that bollowed him so much? If
- 20:50Speaker 4: he even said to you, I want it to be
- 20:54Speaker 4: you in the end.
- 20:55Speaker 5: You have to know, you have to understand people.
- 20:58Speaker 6: The biggest thing in life that I can give people
- 21:00Speaker 6: is to understand people.
- 21:01Speaker 5: We all come from different walks of.
- 21:03Speaker 6: Life, and as you get older you realize this, It's
- 21:06Speaker 6: like nobody's the same. We all have our stuff, we
- 21:09Speaker 6: all have our skeletons, we all have our traumas, we
- 21:11Speaker 6: all have our love right and we're all doing the
- 21:13Speaker 6: best that we can on this planet for the very
- 21:16Speaker 6: short time that we're here. So the reason why is
- 21:19Speaker 6: because Mel is a professional athlete and what you guys
- 21:22Speaker 6: saw on TV, and if you've been watching us a
- 21:24Speaker 6: following us, he's totally two different people what you saw
- 21:27Speaker 6: on TV and who he really is in real life,
- 21:30Speaker 6: or they're totally two different.
- 21:31Speaker 5: People, you know, And he because he's a.
- 21:35Speaker 6: Professional athlete, and in his mindset, you got to finish
- 21:39Speaker 6: the game, he tells. I listened to him on the
- 21:41Speaker 6: phone talking to his boys all the time.
- 21:43Speaker 5: I don't care if you're winning or you're losing. You
- 21:46Speaker 5: got to finish the game. So that's his professional athlete mindset.
- 21:51Speaker 6: You know, he's been playing football professionally for you know
- 21:56Speaker 6: what a long time, through college, through the NFL, and
- 21:59Speaker 6: that's mindset.
- 22:00Speaker 5: You got to finish the game. So he did got
- 22:03Speaker 5: he did get.
- 22:04Speaker 6: Butt hurt about that because she didn't finish the game
- 22:06Speaker 6: and that was his own personal stuff, and you know,
- 22:09Speaker 6: and she had the right to leave.
- 22:10Speaker 5: Carol left.
- 22:11Speaker 6: She had the right to leave. And I commend both
- 22:14Speaker 6: of those women, you know, if it's not what you want.
- 22:16Speaker 6: And I talked to Carol, I did I remember we
- 22:19Speaker 6: were in the kitchen that morning that she left, and
- 22:22Speaker 6: Cindy kept saying to Carol, will give him grace. And
- 22:25Speaker 6: I said to Carol, I said, no, Carol, if this
- 22:27Speaker 6: is not the guy for you, then you know, you know,
- 22:31Speaker 6: peace out, because here's one thing I've learned in life,
- 22:34Speaker 6: you guys, I don't want to waste my precious life anymore.
- 22:37Speaker 6: God has given me this life, one life, one breath,
- 22:40Speaker 6: and I really my time is my most important commodity.
- 22:43Speaker 5: It really is.
- 22:44Speaker 6: So who I spend that with is very important to me.
- 22:47Speaker 6: So if it's not right, cut it and run.
- 22:50Speaker 3: You brought you bring up something here that I think
- 22:52Speaker 3: is interesting for viewers. You just said that mel was
- 22:57Speaker 3: different on TV than he is in real life. Right,
- 23:00Speaker 3: fell in love with mel On when he was still
- 23:02Speaker 3: on TV, and now you know him in real life.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Can you explain how that's evolved for you if it
- 23:11Speaker 3: is so different?
- 23:13Speaker 6: Well, here's the thing, you guys, because I and I
- 23:15Speaker 6: was very honest, you know, and you asked the girls
- 23:17Speaker 6: in the house, Terry and the ones that I'm very
- 23:19Speaker 6: close to. I was there, and if you guys watched it,
- 23:22Speaker 6: I was, you know, I was. I was like, look,
- 23:25Speaker 6: I just need to know if this guy is datable
- 23:27Speaker 6: forget about marriage, forget about being engaged.
- 23:30Speaker 5: Is he datable? And is he datable for me? Right? So,
- 23:34Speaker 5: the times that we had.
- 23:35Speaker 6: On the show, I got the one on one date
- 23:39Speaker 6: and we spent like twelve hours together.
- 23:40Speaker 5: I mean as it was one of the longest one
- 23:42Speaker 5: on one dates.
- 23:43Speaker 6: That our season had, and there was a lot of
- 23:46Speaker 6: off camera time, a lot because I was there from
- 23:49Speaker 6: you know, one o'clock in the afternoon to about midnight.
- 23:52Speaker 6: So and it's very important to have that time of
- 23:56Speaker 6: your overnight time in the fantasy suite without anybody there
- 24:00Speaker 6: because now, guess what, Now you can be yourself one
- 24:02Speaker 6: hundred percent yourself. And now is that true authentic self
- 24:07Speaker 6: going to match up with his true authentic self. And
- 24:10Speaker 6: that's where that time is so important and that's why
- 24:12Speaker 6: they give it to you, you guys.
- 24:13Speaker 5: If that time wasn't important, the show would not have given, you.
- 24:17Speaker 6: Know, all these bachelor and bachelorettes for twenty years that
- 24:20Speaker 6: time in the fantasy suite. So there is something to it,
- 24:23Speaker 6: you know, there's something to it to finally to really get.
- 24:27Speaker 5: To know who that person is.
- 24:28Speaker 6: And I got to see him, he got to see me,
- 24:30Speaker 6: and know, we did not have sex, just to clarify,
- 24:33Speaker 6: and we talked. We talked all night long, and we
- 24:36Speaker 6: got to know each other, you know, and that's when.
- 24:38Speaker 5: I knew for me.
- 24:40Speaker 6: I don't know, I can't speak for mel, but that's
- 24:42Speaker 6: when I knew for me, Okay, this is a go,
- 24:45Speaker 6: this is a green flag. I can do this, but
- 24:48Speaker 6: up to that point I wasn't sure. I was not sure,
- 24:51Speaker 6: and I told him at the fair and you guys
- 24:53Speaker 6: are probably going to bleep the side out.
- 24:55Speaker 5: But I looked at.
- 24:55Speaker 6: Him at the OC Fair and I said, look, if
- 24:57Speaker 6: you're that egotistical, whole kind of a guy, I go
- 25:00Speaker 6: I've dated that before.
- 25:01Speaker 5: I am not going to date that again.
- 25:04Speaker 4: You know, remind us what happened at the fair.
- 25:08Speaker 5: I got your attention, and she's like, oh, what happened
- 25:14Speaker 5: alive in case you broke up for that one.
- 25:17Speaker 6: We were off camera because we're eating lunch, right, and
- 25:21Speaker 6: I said, Okay, come over here, because this is how
- 25:23Speaker 6: I talked to me.
- 25:23Speaker 5: I'm not afraid of the bell. I'm not. I'm not
- 25:25Speaker 5: intimidated or afraid or any of that stuff. With what
- 25:28Speaker 5: I've done in my life.
- 25:29Speaker 6: Hell, I've done dictitary protection with the President of the
- 25:31Speaker 6: United States.
- 25:33Speaker 5: So I just said, look, I need to talk to you.
- 25:34Speaker 5: Come here.
- 25:35Speaker 6: And I said, look, you need to I said that
- 25:37Speaker 6: it's good that you made your apology. I you know,
- 25:40Speaker 6: that's great, but now I need to understand, help me
- 25:43Speaker 6: to understand.
- 25:44Speaker 5: Is this who you really are?
- 25:45Speaker 6: Is this you know, this person that you were talking,
- 25:47Speaker 6: you know, on that podcast, because I don't.
- 25:49Speaker 5: Want to date that.
- 25:50Speaker 6: If you're you know, arrogant, egotistical and narcissistic.
- 25:54Speaker 5: I don't want to date that. And I said that
- 25:56Speaker 5: right to him with a.
- 25:57Speaker 6: Lot of f bombs, you know, And when we address
- 26:00Speaker 6: when we address that issue, we really did, you know,
- 26:03Speaker 6: and he gave me an answer to clarify that that
- 26:06Speaker 6: I was okay with to move forward.
- 26:08Speaker 5: In that journey.
- 26:11Speaker 3: I do think that interview set everything back because I
- 26:15Speaker 3: think people are going into it wanting to be surprised,
- 26:19Speaker 3: wanting to be thrown off and say, yeah, that interview
- 26:22Speaker 3: doesn't make sense with how the story plays out right
- 26:26Speaker 3: in the end, where no, this guy does want to
- 26:29Speaker 3: find love, and he does want to find his partner,
- 26:31Speaker 3: and he does want to find this forever person. And
- 26:34Speaker 3: I think the show in it and where he said, hey,
- 26:36Speaker 3: we got a promise ring and the two of you, yes,
- 26:38Speaker 3: as Ashley said, you make great sense together and it
- 26:42Speaker 3: seems like you're very happy together, and people are happy
- 26:45Speaker 3: about that. But I do think still it lacks the
- 26:49Speaker 3: story that was expected when you give up two hours
- 26:53Speaker 3: of your week every week to watch somebody possibly fall
- 26:56Speaker 3: in love.
- 26:59Speaker 6: But we we did fall in love just because we
- 27:01Speaker 6: didn't do it the traditional way. That's so sad that
- 27:05Speaker 6: you said that, because now it's like, the reality is
- 27:07Speaker 6: is we did fall in love, and you guys got
- 27:09Speaker 6: to see that story unfold. And if you're watching it,
- 27:13Speaker 6: you're even seeing more of a love story unfold. And
- 27:16Speaker 6: that's what's exciting. This is not something that's going to
- 27:19Speaker 6: die in a month or get divorced and get married
- 27:21Speaker 6: in three months. You know, this is a love story
- 27:24Speaker 6: that's real, that's honest, that's authentic, that's mature, right, and
- 27:29Speaker 6: that's going to grow, and it is growing, and we're
- 27:31Speaker 6: having so much fun, you know, and enjoying each other's life.
- 27:35Speaker 3: It is and I think Mel explained it in an
- 27:38Speaker 3: interview recently, and I think it starts to make the
- 27:42Speaker 3: picture make more sense, where originally when we were watching
- 27:46Speaker 3: the season back, I think it was very clear that
- 27:50Speaker 3: you weren't wanting to get married, and I think it
- 27:52Speaker 3: was pretty clear that Mel was not looking for a
- 27:55Speaker 3: marriage at the end of this, and so that was
- 27:58Speaker 3: an alignment that we saw as the sea and continued.
- 28:01Speaker 3: And I think when you watch it, it almost told
- 28:04Speaker 3: the story if it did not tell the story that, hey,
- 28:07Speaker 3: these two are just going to end up together DM
- 28:09Speaker 3: because they both want the same thing, not necessarily because
- 28:13Speaker 3: they're madly in love. And that's why I said what
- 28:15Speaker 3: I said. It's because they both want the same thing.
- 28:17Speaker 3: They're willing to date at the end of this and
- 28:19Speaker 3: to figure out if love comes from it, right. But
- 28:23Speaker 3: Mel comes on an interview and says, no, he knew
- 28:25Speaker 3: it was you very early on. He knew it was
- 28:28Speaker 3: you very early on in the process. And so when
- 28:33Speaker 3: for you personally did that love start to develop where
- 28:36Speaker 3: you started to say, hey, this is also a guy
- 28:40Speaker 3: for me. I mean you just said it was the
- 28:41Speaker 3: fantasy suitees Mel saying it's week one and it was
- 28:44Speaker 3: always you. That's a pretty big length of time that
- 28:48Speaker 3: the two of you weren't aligning on this intention.
- 28:51Speaker 5: As Starry my best friend out of the house. I
- 28:53Speaker 5: went in there. I didn't like him.
- 28:54Speaker 6: I was like, I don't know, I don't know, I
- 28:56Speaker 6: don't know. I kept like, I don't know, I don't know.
- 28:59Speaker 6: If you know, I need to get to know who
- 29:00Speaker 6: he is. And I almost did not go on the
- 29:02Speaker 6: show because of that podcast because I didn't like it.
- 29:05Speaker 5: You guys, I was with America.
- 29:06Speaker 6: I'm like, that shitty man to say something like that
- 29:08Speaker 6: was pretty damn shitty.
- 29:10Speaker 5: I've taken my.
- 29:10Speaker 6: Time and my life and my energy to come meet you,
- 29:14Speaker 6: and this is what you say.
- 29:15Speaker 5: I'm like, no, no, no, no, that's not going to work,
- 29:17Speaker 5: you know.
- 29:18Speaker 6: So after I had talked to him at the OC Fair,
- 29:21Speaker 6: because we've got to spend a lot of time, I
- 29:22Speaker 6: had that conversation with him. You know, it lasted a
- 29:25Speaker 6: good you know, it was a long conversation, and by
- 29:28Speaker 6: the end of the night, I knew that I wanted
- 29:32Speaker 6: to continue with this journey.
- 29:33Speaker 5: There was that spark, there was that oh.
- 29:35Speaker 6: I started to let my guard down, started to open
- 29:38Speaker 6: my heart. And my daughter said to me, Mom, you
- 29:41Speaker 6: got to go I have an open heart and an
- 29:43Speaker 6: open mind. Don't judge somebody just because of what they said.
- 29:46Speaker 6: I mean, a lot of us we open mouth and
- 29:48Speaker 6: insert foot and if you tell me you've never done that,
- 29:51Speaker 6: then you're lying because we all have, you know, or
- 29:54Speaker 6: we've said things.
- 29:55Speaker 5: That we wish we hadn't said out of context.
- 29:57Speaker 6: But I wanted to get to know who he was
- 29:59Speaker 6: in soul, at a soul level, you guys, you know,
- 30:03Speaker 6: at a deep soul level, because that's what's going to
- 30:05Speaker 6: make the sustainable relationship work, you know, is you know
- 30:09Speaker 6: that sole level of a connection, that communication, the maturity
- 30:13Speaker 6: and the sustainability, and that's.
- 30:14Speaker 5: What you get when you get old. You know, you
- 30:16Speaker 5: get that stuff because you've learned it.
- 30:29Speaker 4: Are you guys planning on moving to each other's cities?
- 30:31Speaker 4: I know that you guys are relatively close together your
- 30:34Speaker 4: for four hour drive. Right if this keeps progressing, do
- 30:38Speaker 4: you see yourself maybe ever living together?
- 30:40Speaker 5: Oh yeah, we talk about that all the time.
- 30:42Speaker 6: But what's really cool, you guys, you get old, you
- 30:45Speaker 6: get right because you've worked your entire life right, so
- 30:48Speaker 6: you have right.
- 30:49Speaker 5: And what's exciting now is we have his house and
- 30:52Speaker 5: we have my houses. I love it. Who gets two houses? Man?
- 30:55Speaker 5: That's cool. It is nice.
- 30:57Speaker 6: We get to go to Orange County and hang out
- 30:58Speaker 6: of the beach, and we get to come to vag
- 31:00Speaker 6: and do Vegas things.
- 31:01Speaker 5: Do you know how exciting that is?
- 31:03Speaker 6: You know, it's exciting and it's fun, and that's the
- 31:06Speaker 6: way you should spend your sixties, doing it the way
- 31:09Speaker 6: that you want to do it.
- 31:10Speaker 5: I've raised my daughter. I was a single mom.
- 31:12Speaker 6: You guys, I raised that kid by myself after my divorce.
- 31:15Speaker 6: I was a bomb tech, I was a firefighter. I
- 31:18Speaker 6: was a police you know, a police academy, fire academy,
- 31:21Speaker 6: FBI bomb academy. And you're going to tell me I
- 31:23Speaker 6: have to do it your way. I don't think so.
- 31:26Speaker 6: It's my time.
- 31:27Speaker 5: It's my way, and that's what you need to do.
- 31:30Speaker 6: You know, as we get older, you realize that you
- 31:33Speaker 6: get to write your own story and your own life story,
- 31:36Speaker 6: your own love story. I paid my dues, I did
- 31:39Speaker 6: everything that I was supposed to do.
- 31:41Speaker 5: Now it's I get to do it my way.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 31:43Speaker 4: That reminded me of a podcast that we just listened
- 31:46Speaker 4: to and how he was talking about how he wanted
- 31:49Speaker 4: to get to know how you retired at fifty.
- 31:52Speaker 2: How did you retire at fifty? Well, the fire.
- 31:55Speaker 6: Department, you guys, because when you're in, you know you
- 31:57Speaker 6: have you can look. There's so many of us that
- 31:59Speaker 6: die have either heart issues or cancer right because of
- 32:03Speaker 6: what we do.
- 32:04Speaker 5: That job. Let me tell you it's a ballbuster. It
- 32:06Speaker 5: is a freaking ballbuster.
- 32:08Speaker 6: I've had children die in my hands, in my hands,
- 32:11Speaker 6: gunshot wounds to the back of their head and a
- 32:13Speaker 6: little ten year old that takes his last breath in
- 32:16Speaker 6: my arms, right the three year old that I have
- 32:19Speaker 6: to go to their house on a Saturday morning calling
- 32:23Speaker 6: nine to one one because the baby girl is in
- 32:25Speaker 6: the pool, floating in her diapers and she's blue.
- 32:29Speaker 5: So, you know what, I don't have tolerance for bullshit
- 32:33Speaker 5: in life. I just don't.
- 32:35Speaker 6: And when you get that baby girl out of the
- 32:36Speaker 6: pool and you've got to put that kid on the
- 32:38Speaker 6: table and you've got to do CPR and the mom
- 32:41Speaker 6: is screaming her eyes and her brain's out. Do you
- 32:44Speaker 6: think I give a shit about all this piddley.
- 32:46Speaker 5: Crap in life?
- 32:48Speaker 6: I don't because I know what's important, and what's important
- 32:52Speaker 6: is to be honest, have integrity, help another human being,
- 32:55Speaker 6: and have love, patience and tolerance. I know I'm kind
- 32:58Speaker 6: of on a soapbox, but man, when you see the
- 33:00Speaker 6: worst of worst, you guys for twenty something years, you
- 33:03Speaker 6: know what's important in life and you know what's not.
- 33:06Speaker 2: So how did you retire at fifty part department?
- 33:10Speaker 5: So what happened? You have twenty years? You can do
- 33:12Speaker 5: twenty years and you have to be fifty.
- 33:14Speaker 6: So at twenty I did twenty two years and as
- 33:17Speaker 6: soon as I hit fifty years old, I was peace
- 33:19Speaker 6: out because I was having heart issues and that job
- 33:23Speaker 6: is beyond stressful. So the doctor told me, the fire doctor,
- 33:27Speaker 6: that my medical doctors, everybody's I was throwing PVCs.
- 33:30Speaker 5: That's a whole other thing, a heart issue, and so
- 33:33Speaker 5: it was time to go.
- 33:34Speaker 3: Do you think that background helped you navigate this process?
- 33:38Speaker 3: I mean, because a it's definitely different, but it is
- 33:43Speaker 3: a level of stress, it is a level of the unknown.
- 33:46Speaker 3: There is obviously you come off of the show, and
- 33:50Speaker 3: there is the opinions that you take in the headlines
- 33:53Speaker 3: that you read, the people that you talk to confront
- 33:56Speaker 3: the truth like you are today. Do you think that
- 33:59Speaker 3: background doing what you did help do you prepare for
- 34:02Speaker 3: this chapter?
- 34:04Speaker 6: That background helped me prepare for life. It helped me
- 34:07Speaker 6: prepare for life. You know, there's a lot of different chapters,
- 34:09Speaker 6: you guys, as you get older in life. Here's this chapter,
- 34:12Speaker 6: that chapter, this chapter. But to answer your question, yeah,
- 34:14Speaker 6: one hundred percent. And there's a lot of things that
- 34:17Speaker 6: was there were going on behind the scenes that the
- 34:19Speaker 6: girls don't even know. You know, we came back from
- 34:22Speaker 6: shooting one time and this is just who I am
- 34:24Speaker 6: because I was trained this way. And there was a
- 34:26Speaker 6: screen off the window, and I'm like, Holy Holy, what's
- 34:30Speaker 6: going on?
- 34:30Speaker 5: Why is there a screen?
- 34:32Speaker 6: And then Robin or someone somebody else said there's another
- 34:34Speaker 6: screen off.
- 34:35Speaker 5: So I went into protection mode.
- 34:37Speaker 6: I'm like, oh no, no, no, no, get me security, get
- 34:39Speaker 6: me the who's.
- 34:40Speaker 5: Ever in charge?
- 34:41Speaker 6: Why are these screens off the You know, we were
- 34:45Speaker 6: here in a house that's not secure, so we need
- 34:49Speaker 6: to find out what's going on. I asked for more security.
- 34:52Speaker 6: I asked for security with the weapon because I had
- 34:55Speaker 6: everybody's best interests. Just who I am, I'm a protector
- 34:58Speaker 6: and I'm you know, so I might Yeah, so yes,
- 35:01Speaker 6: it did. It helped me a lot with this whole situation,
- 35:05Speaker 6: and it sure did.
- 35:06Speaker 4: Did you and Mel watch the series back together?
- 35:09Speaker 6: We did not all of it, but a lot of it.
- 35:13Speaker 6: We did not all of it. Yeah we did, We
- 35:15Speaker 6: sure did. We watched it all back.
- 35:17Speaker 2: What did you think that was great?
- 35:19Speaker 5: I loved it. It was fun.
- 35:21Speaker 6: It was a lot of fun. I think it was good.
- 35:23Speaker 6: I have no ill feelings about anything. I know what
- 35:27Speaker 6: I signed up for. You guys, I knew there was
- 35:29Speaker 6: going to be one woman I knew that if we
- 35:31Speaker 6: had a connection, I wanted to see if.
- 35:34Speaker 5: He was datable for me.
- 35:35Speaker 6: I don't live in fantasy, I live in reality. And yeah,
- 35:38Speaker 6: it was fun.
- 35:39Speaker 5: It was a lot of fun. You know. It was
- 35:40Speaker 5: interesting and fun.
- 35:42Speaker 6: And I knew he was going to be making out
- 35:43Speaker 6: with all these women and maybe he'll have a connection
- 35:46Speaker 6: with me and somebody else, or not me and other women.
- 35:50Speaker 6: I knew what I was signing up for.
- 35:52Speaker 3: Yeah, you're now, I mean goodness, pretty far removed from
- 35:56Speaker 3: the filming of the show. You've gotten to watch the
- 35:58Speaker 3: show back. You answered the question on the season that
- 36:02Speaker 3: Mel was at least datable enough to say yes to
- 36:05Speaker 3: a promise. Ring months into this now together, do you
- 36:09Speaker 3: still think Mel is datable?
- 36:11Speaker 5: One hundred percent.
- 36:12Speaker 6: He's more datable now than he was on the show.
- 36:15Speaker 6: And here's the thing in two you that you know,
- 36:16Speaker 6: I just want to.
- 36:17Speaker 5: Kind of like throw out there.
- 36:19Speaker 6: Being a professional firefighter and arson detective and then arson
- 36:22Speaker 6: bomb squad, I did a lot of court trials, right
- 36:25Speaker 6: They would bring us in to testify a lot of depositions,
- 36:28Speaker 6: and one thing I've learned about Mel is that he has.
- 36:31Speaker 5: A very, very very analytical brain.
- 36:34Speaker 6: You have to have that type of brain to be
- 36:36Speaker 6: a professional athlete, and you have to have that type.
- 36:38Speaker 5: Of brain to be an attorney.
- 36:41Speaker 6: So when you're deposed, they ask you questions and you answer,
- 36:45Speaker 6: You give them one word answers. And it finally dawned
- 36:48Speaker 6: on me when we were at the cheerleading competition with
- 36:51Speaker 6: Paula Abdul, because he.
- 36:53Speaker 5: Got me aside and he was.
- 36:55Speaker 6: Drilling me, and I'm like, wait a minute, what is
- 36:57Speaker 6: this about? And I went home and I assessed it
- 36:59Speaker 6: and I go, oh, that's what that's about. That's his
- 37:03Speaker 6: attorney for twenty five years, you know, doing a deposition
- 37:07Speaker 6: and trying to find out information.
- 37:09Speaker 5: Because I've been in several depositions.
- 37:11Speaker 6: I've had to testify as an expert witness in federal court.
- 37:15Speaker 5: So I understand that whole process. And you do you.
- 37:17Speaker 6: Answer questions, you guys, with one word, because when you're
- 37:21Speaker 6: in court, you don't want to give the court to
- 37:22Speaker 6: any more information. You want to answer the question, but
- 37:26Speaker 6: you want to answer it with the least amount of
- 37:28Speaker 6: words because you don't want to give them that material, right,
- 37:31Speaker 6: So that's where he comes off with those one word answers.
- 37:35Speaker 5: And I understand that.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Now I get that.
- 37:37Speaker 3: I also know a lot of attorneys who are very
- 37:39Speaker 3: long winded and cannot shut up and talk. So there's
- 37:43Speaker 3: that side too.
- 37:44Speaker 6: He has that he has that, but nobody has seen
- 37:46Speaker 6: that side he has.
- 37:49Speaker 5: Oh my god, you'd ask them what time it is.
- 37:51Speaker 5: He'll tell you how to make a watch for like
- 37:53Speaker 5: two weeks.
- 37:54Speaker 3: If you listen to the breakdown of our season. I
- 37:57Speaker 3: kept saying, there's going to be a moment like, the
- 37:59Speaker 3: show doesn't not pick a lead that answers questions in
- 38:03Speaker 3: this way. The show does not pick a lead that
- 38:05Speaker 3: asks questions in this way. Never, that's not a thing,
- 38:09Speaker 3: like they know too much after so many years of
- 38:12Speaker 3: doing this to pick a lead, Like there's gonna be
- 38:14Speaker 3: a moment where like that's the male, Like right there,
- 38:16Speaker 3: that's him, that's him. And I'll say this and again,
- 38:20Speaker 3: you started this whole thing out, and I respect that
- 38:22Speaker 3: you said I'm not going to be here to speak
- 38:24Speaker 3: on Mel's behalf, And that's great. We'll talk to Mel
- 38:26Speaker 3: about so much of this. But there's one moment that
- 38:29Speaker 3: really frustrated me this season because as frustrated as I
- 38:33Speaker 3: was watching this and being like I'm getting nothing out
- 38:35Speaker 3: of this, guy like, I see nothing. I thought it
- 38:38Speaker 3: was going to happen at hometowns, and I thought it
- 38:39Speaker 3: was going to happen with your daughter. I really did.
- 38:42Speaker 3: I thought this would be the moment, out of any
- 38:44Speaker 3: moment all season, where this guy is going to be
- 38:46Speaker 3: a human again and actually speak to her and answer
- 38:49Speaker 3: the questions that she's desiring to know about how he
- 38:51Speaker 3: feels about his mom. And goodness, gracious, he didn't do it.
- 38:54Speaker 5: He did do it. He did do it. No, no, no,
- 38:57Speaker 5: you guys know, come on now, stop it.
- 39:00Speaker 2: No, but if he did it, the show would have
- 39:02Speaker 2: shown it.
- 39:02Speaker 5: No, we would know. They didn't. You asked Cindy.
- 39:05Speaker 6: They had a whole day making hats in Austin, and
- 39:08Speaker 6: he was so upset that they did not show that
- 39:11Speaker 6: side of him, that side of him the entire day.
- 39:14Speaker 6: And Cindy has talked about that as well on all
- 39:16Speaker 6: these podcasts that she's done. There is so much left
- 39:19Speaker 6: on the editing floor that it's just and that's the
- 39:23Speaker 6: nature of the beast. You guys, My daughter and him
- 39:26Speaker 6: were laughing. You guys, wait, there's this whole scene.
- 39:30Speaker 5: It is so sad.
- 39:31Speaker 3: They'll just tell us how they interacted because we didn't
- 39:33Speaker 3: see it, you said, they did, I know.
- 39:36Speaker 5: And here's the thing. So way walk in.
- 39:39Speaker 6: My daughter has a present for mel and this and
- 39:42Speaker 6: it is so sad this stuff didn't make it on
- 39:44Speaker 6: the show. She walked in with an actual hip replacement
- 39:48Speaker 6: because her boyfriend works.
- 39:50Speaker 5: In the medical field.
- 39:51Speaker 6: We died laughing for at least twenty minutes. It was hilarious.
- 39:56Speaker 5: She literally had.
- 39:57Speaker 6: A hip replacement, then gave it to mel well right
- 40:00Speaker 6: and said, here, mel when you're ready for your hipro replacement,
- 40:04Speaker 6: and it's a real hip replacement, you guys, And we
- 40:07Speaker 6: had it and it was hilarious. And then those two
- 40:09Speaker 6: were bantering back and forth. They were drinking a beer,
- 40:12Speaker 6: you know, yes, bantering, laughing their asses off.
- 40:17Speaker 5: Didn't see that on television.
- 40:18Speaker 6: Didn't see anything of him and Cindy because he really
- 40:22Speaker 6: enjoyed that day of her taking him to that place
- 40:26Speaker 6: to make to pick out a hat and do all
- 40:29Speaker 6: this stuff, and they were laughing and they were joking.
- 40:31Speaker 6: It was a couple of hours, he said, in the store.
- 40:35Speaker 6: And they didn't show any of that. So his real
- 40:37Speaker 6: human side didn't make TV.
- 40:42Speaker 4: What's her theory on that? Why would they want to
- 40:44Speaker 4: make their lead cold, seeming.
- 40:47Speaker 6: To ask those showrunners, I don't know you guys, so
- 40:49Speaker 6: that's above my pay grade.
- 40:50Speaker 5: I have no idea.
- 40:51Speaker 6: But my family, oh my god, they fell in love
- 40:54Speaker 6: with him. We're laughing, we're joking, my daughter, my mother,
- 40:58Speaker 6: he had some funny funny My mimd eighty two years
- 41:00Speaker 6: old with little dementia but never has missed a season
- 41:04Speaker 6: of The Bachelor or Bachelorette. And those two, those two
- 41:08Speaker 6: were bantering. That was hilarious. It was so fun. But
- 41:12Speaker 6: they didn't see that on TV.
- 41:14Speaker 5: And it's sad.
- 41:15Speaker 3: It's sad, but it's also reassuring to know that that
- 41:17Speaker 3: existed because I think, out of anything, and I'm glad
- 41:21Speaker 3: we spoke to you before we spoke to Mel, because
- 41:24Speaker 3: I think if we would have spoke to Mel, I
- 41:26Speaker 3: still have that time in my head where I'm like,
- 41:29Speaker 3: this is the moment, dude, step up, want to step up?
- 41:32Speaker 3: And so to hear that he did is something reassuring
- 41:38Speaker 3: to me as a viewer and a fan of the show.
- 41:40Speaker 3: Now to say, Okay, this guy wasn't just cold, even
- 41:44Speaker 3: to the people that weren't really participating but had gotten
- 41:47Speaker 3: dragged into it, that would have been really frustrating. The
- 41:50Speaker 3: final question we have for you or that I have
- 41:52Speaker 3: for you, I guess I don't know if Ashley has
- 41:55Speaker 3: anything else. Have you taught Mel how to ride a unicycond?
- 41:58Speaker 2: That was my.
- 41:59Speaker 4: Question and guys' freaking hilarious.
- 42:04Speaker 5: Yeah I know he doesn't. Yeah, no, no.
- 42:08Speaker 4: Is it ever gonna happen.
- 42:09Speaker 6: I don't want to be breaking hit because I have
- 42:11Speaker 6: to cut his ass.
- 42:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it's good to hip ther place him out there.
- 42:15Speaker 4: We need to. We need to follow up where you
- 42:18Speaker 4: guys just hang out. I want to see, like the
- 42:20Speaker 4: way that I want to see your interaction with outside
- 42:24Speaker 4: of the Bachelor process. Watch our videos, your natural environment
- 42:28Speaker 4: for either of you.
- 42:29Speaker 5: It's hilarious. We did this.
- 42:30Speaker 6: We did this fitness blast in in Rio de Janio.
- 42:33Speaker 6: We taped a lot of it. It's hilarious, you guys,
- 42:36Speaker 6: it's you got to watch it. It's hilarious, funny. He's
- 42:40Speaker 6: from the Funny Guy. Really believe it or not.
- 42:43Speaker 3: So for listeners that are listening to this and walking
- 42:46Speaker 3: through it, if you could explain your relationship today in
- 42:51Speaker 3: closing so they can kind of get a bow on
- 42:54Speaker 3: this whole experience. Can you explain how Peg and I'll
- 43:00Speaker 3: operate in the world together.
- 43:02Speaker 6: We are two human beings walking on this planet that
- 43:05Speaker 6: have had you know, love, We've had loss, we've had children,
- 43:10Speaker 6: we've had careers, and now we're at this chapter of
- 43:13Speaker 6: our lives that we have found each other just to
- 43:17Speaker 6: enjoy each other one day at a time. You guys,
- 43:20Speaker 6: I might not wake up in the morning, I might
- 43:21Speaker 6: have a cardiac or rest during the night.
- 43:24Speaker 5: And this is the sh that you know.
- 43:25Speaker 6: When as you get older, this stuff you start to
- 43:27Speaker 6: think about. So our relationship is out of mutual respect,
- 43:32Speaker 6: out of love, out of joy and having fun. And
- 43:35Speaker 6: we appreciate each other one day at a time, because
- 43:39Speaker 6: that's all any of us have, you guys, that's it.
- 43:43Speaker 4: Very nice. So I'm glad that you guys are so happy.
- 43:45Speaker 4: It's really awesome. You beat Gary and Theurisa as far
- 43:48Speaker 4: as your longevity goes.
- 43:49Speaker 5: Already, Oh there you go.
- 43:51Speaker 2: Woo, Thank you beg for being here.
- 43:58Speaker 6: You're welcome, guys, Thank you much. You guys will have

- 44:07Speaker 2: That's good to know.
- 44:09Speaker 6: All right, guys, Thanks I really appreciate it.
