3:01
Speaker 3: But first I want to talk a little farmers market. Shawn,
3:03
Speaker 3: Welcome to the show. Good morning, thanks for having me today,
3:05
Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. Are things going with the
3:08
Speaker 3: farmers Market?
3:08
Speaker 5: It's going great. It's been a great turnout. The communities
3:13
Speaker 5: really came out and supported it.
3:17
Speaker 6: Yeah.
3:17
Speaker 3: I mean, I've been with my wife and I have
3:19
Speaker 3: gone several times. And if you've never if you've never
3:22
Speaker 3: gone to it, it is it's an absolutely great thing
3:25
Speaker 3: for the area. And I guess the one thing I was,
3:27
Speaker 3: even though I'd had you on the show talking about it,
3:29
Speaker 3: and Mayor Frank Mullins and talked about it too, I
3:32
Speaker 3: guess I wasn't prepared for the first time I went,
3:34
Speaker 3: how big it was and how how much space did
3:36
Speaker 3: you cover there?
3:37
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it's it's it's actually I mean, for
3:40
Speaker 5: we're a small market, but there's a lot, there's a
3:42
Speaker 5: lot that we have there that we offer that you know,
3:45
Speaker 5: it actually looks bigger than what it is. But you know, again,
3:49
Speaker 5: it's been a it's been a great turnout, and you know,
3:52
Speaker 5: we really just want to thank everyone for coming out
3:53
Speaker 5: and supporting it.
3:55
Speaker 7: All.
3:55
Speaker 3: Right, so what do you got coming up to farmers Market?
3:57
Speaker 5: So this week we were celebrating ash Farmers Market Week,
4:01
Speaker 5: and what that kind of is is it's a week
4:04
Speaker 5: that you you want to help promote the agriculture and
4:09
Speaker 5: the vital roles that markets have in the community and
4:13
Speaker 5: the people behind it, which are the farmers. So what
4:16
Speaker 5: we're doing for our market this week is we're gonna
4:18
Speaker 5: We're gonna do a spotlight on our social media for
4:21
Speaker 5: all of our farmers during the week, and then on Saturday,
4:24
Speaker 5: we're gonna have a National Farmers Market Week event with
4:27
Speaker 5: a farm to table cookout which we are purchasing all
4:30
Speaker 5: the products from our farmers there and cooking it out,
4:33
Speaker 5: and we'll have a petting zoo, live apple butter demo,
4:38
Speaker 5: face painting, and tractor rides and inflatables.
4:42
Speaker 3: And describe to people where it is people that may
4:45
Speaker 3: not know where the farmers Market is.
4:46
Speaker 8: So we are.
4:46
Speaker 5: We are located in South Charleston at four thousand and
4:48
Speaker 5: six mccorkway Avenue Southwest, which is right behind the Wendy's.
4:53
Speaker 5: It's on the old mccorkol Avenue where the old revef
4:57
Speaker 5: end used to be.
4:58
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's a it's a great facial and you're
5:00
Speaker 3: gonna have a lot of good things going on here
5:01
Speaker 3: this Saturday. Now, how long is it going to run?
5:03
Speaker 3: I mean as far as I mean, how many more
5:05
Speaker 3: weeks do you have?
5:06
Speaker 5: So we will run through the fall. We're gonna have
5:08
Speaker 5: a fall in a Christmas market, okay, yea, So we
5:11
Speaker 5: will be open probably up until around right before Christmas time.
5:16
Speaker 3: Okay, I could see what that would be a huge
5:18
Speaker 3: success Christmas, especially falling Christmas, I mean, because there's things
5:21
Speaker 3: are kind of built around farmers markets, right, yep, Yeah,
5:24
Speaker 3: talk at too. As Sean Zenniget again from the City
5:26
Speaker 3: of South Charlesto, Dave Island, showing five any Live is
5:28

Speaker 3: an analysis, comprehensive reporting and management planning. Visit Pinnacle court
5:37
Speaker 3: dot net. Because what you don't know can't hurt you,
5:39
Speaker 3: all right. We'll get back to the farmer's market a
5:41
Speaker 3: little bit later on, but we'll talk about summer fests.
5:43
Speaker 3: How many years of summer Fest's been going on. It's
5:45
Speaker 3: been happening a long time.
5:46
Speaker 8: Right.
5:47
Speaker 5: I asked this question yesterday because I always forget, and
5:50
Speaker 5: this is our twenty second year.
5:51
Speaker 3: Twenty second year right in Summer Fest, yep. And it
5:54
Speaker 3: kicks off next Wednesday.
5:55
Speaker 5: Next Wednesday.
5:56
Speaker 3: Yeah, it runs through the weekend, Saturday through Saturday. So, well, doll,
6:00
Speaker 3: do we have on the schedule this year?
6:01
Speaker 6: So it'll be, it'll be.
6:02
Speaker 5: It'll be four days of free family fund entertainment each
6:07
Speaker 5: each evening. We'll have bands that come on at six
6:10
Speaker 5: pm and eight pm. We'll have a free kid zone inflatables,
6:16
Speaker 5: face painting, snow cones. We'll have plenty of food vendors
6:20
Speaker 5: there as well, and dance contest. Friday night is our
6:25
Speaker 5: drone show at ten pm, and then Saturday morning from
6:29
Speaker 5: eight to two is our car show, and then the
6:31
Speaker 5: last night on Saturday night is our fireworks.
6:33
Speaker 3: Okay, let's talk about the music. Do we have on
6:35
Speaker 3: the schedule?
6:36
Speaker 8: Yeah?
6:36
Speaker 5: So Wednesday we have Straight On which is which, which
6:40
Speaker 5: is a tribute to Heart, and then we have the
6:43
Speaker 5: exiles as well. Thursday we have the Detonators, and then
6:48
Speaker 5: we have the Legacy Motel, and then Friday we have
6:52
Speaker 5: Josh Pantry, and then we have Turn It Up, which
6:55
Speaker 5: is a tribute to Skinnered, and then Saturday we have
7:01
Speaker 5: Non Friction and Rick K road Trip.
7:03
Speaker 3: Yeah, and Non Friction. I've talked about that in the past.
7:06
Speaker 3: I've actually worked a couple of events where I've m
7:07
Speaker 3: seed them.
7:09
Speaker 6: They are.
7:10
Speaker 3: They're fantastic, yes. And Rick K, of course, you know
7:13
Speaker 3: years was known as Rick K and the All Nighters
7:15
Speaker 3: and he's kind of morphed into a different what what
7:17
Speaker 3: a character and what a fantastic show?
7:20
Speaker 5: Yeah, he Rick K is very popular there at Summerfest
7:23
Speaker 5: in South Ross and everyone seems to want him there
7:27
Speaker 5: every year.
7:27
Speaker 3: He's fantastic fast. Of course you had me at Skinnered.
7:30
Speaker 3: You know, that's my all time favorite group. And when
7:34
Speaker 3: you said turned it when I read earlier that Turned
7:36
Speaker 3: it Up is going to be there. They're one of
7:37
Speaker 3: the premier Skinnered tribute bands. I mean, who doesn't like
7:40
Speaker 3: you know, when you hear Sweet Home Alabama or or
7:42
Speaker 3: you know, something like that, it'll be great. And one
7:45
Speaker 3: of the things I like about the music is is
7:47
Speaker 3: that Sean, You've got music of all different varieties. I mean,
7:51
Speaker 3: you've got a little motown, you got some oldies, you
7:53
Speaker 3: got some and in Heart you know, they just played
7:55
Speaker 3: at the Conlesey mcavench Center not long ago. Just I
7:57
Speaker 3: mean they just kicked butt there and so that Heart
8:00
Speaker 3: tribute's going to be good as well.
8:01
Speaker 5: Yeah, and then you know it is we have a
8:04
Speaker 5: lot to offer during that week. There's gonna be something
8:06
Speaker 5: for everybody.
8:07
Speaker 3: Yeah, and let's talk about some of the some of
8:09
Speaker 3: the food vendors you got there.
8:12
Speaker 5: Yeah, so we will have I don't know exactly how
8:14
Speaker 5: many we have, but we have a wide variety selection
8:18
Speaker 5: with funnel fries, hot dogs, hamburgers, all this stuff, all
8:23
Speaker 5: this theff barbecues. I mean, there's gonna be a little
8:26
Speaker 5: bit of everything there, lemonade, drinks and and.
8:29
Speaker 3: Of course you got to pay for the food obviously,
8:31
Speaker 3: stuff like that. But if you want to bring the
8:33
Speaker 3: family out just for entertainment.
8:35
Speaker 5: Yes, the entire kid zones free.
8:37
Speaker 3: It's free. The entire kid zone is free. And again
8:39
Speaker 3: it starts next Wednesday and we'll run through Saturday evening
8:43
Speaker 3: there at the Mound in South Charleston. And twenty how
8:46
Speaker 3: many years you say twenty? This is twenty two, twenty
8:48
Speaker 3: second year for Summer past. We're gonna be talking a
8:50
Speaker 3: whole lot about I know our stations are going to
8:52
Speaker 3: be involved in it as well, so we're definitely looking
8:54
Speaker 3: forward to it. We had a text here about the
8:55
Speaker 3: farmers market, okay, text said will the market be used
8:58
Speaker 3: for Christmas tree lots? If not, it should be.
9:02
Speaker 5: We will have Christmas trees during the Christmas market.
9:05
Speaker 3: Yes, okay. And another is one of the group named
9:07
Speaker 3: the Exiles or the legendary group Exile. It's the Exile Exiles. Yes,
9:11
Speaker 3: that's with an S.
9:12
Speaker 6: Yes' with an s.
9:13
Speaker 3: Not the guys that did hits you all over, although
9:15
Speaker 3: they've played around Charleston, you know many many times. You know,
9:18
Speaker 3: this is the Exiles that we'll be playing there, not Exile.
9:22
Speaker 3: But there's still a fantastic group either way. Now, if
9:24
Speaker 3: you want to see the schedule of events, you can
9:26
Speaker 3: go over to my Facebook page Nave Island Radio. I
9:28
Speaker 3: actually took the graphic of your schedule of events and
9:31
Speaker 3: you can follow along, I know in your guys social
9:33
Speaker 3: media and also on the website of well you will
9:35
Speaker 3: have all the information there. And let's talk about the
9:38
Speaker 3: car show a little bit.
9:39
Speaker 5: Yeah, so last we had a great turnout. Yeah, I
9:41
Speaker 5: believe two hundred and thirty two vehicles, which is the
9:44
Speaker 5: biggest turnout we've had. So the registration will start at
9:48
Speaker 5: seven am on that on next Saturday, and the car
9:52
Speaker 5: show will start at eight eight am, run to two pm.
9:55
Speaker 3: All right, all right, Sean, Farmers Market, let's go back
9:58
Speaker 3: to that just for a moment till people time you
10:00
Speaker 3: open this Saturday with this whole farma this Saturday.
10:03
Speaker 5: We heard up at nine am, but the event starts
10:06
Speaker 5: at ten am and I'll run to five pm.
10:09
Speaker 3: All right, we'll be there and we'll also see you
10:11
Speaker 3: at some effects next week. Sean, appreciate you being there.

Speaker 3: up early, too early anyway, three o'clock. We'll start handing
13:11
Speaker 3: them out about four. And remember parents' grandparents, the kids
13:15
Speaker 3: have to be present. We can't have you know you
13:19
Speaker 3: coming up and say, well, I got four kids at home. No,

Speaker 3: backpacks are filled with everything the kids are going to
13:36
Speaker 3: need for success, as what he woulds would say in
13:40
Speaker 3: the school year, and so we'll all be out there,
13:42
Speaker 3: all of our stations will be taking part. Although it is,
13:44
Speaker 3: you know, really kind of the kind of the baby

Speaker 3: of Woody Woods and g money at one of those
13:49
Speaker 3: seven three the beat, we're all glad to help out
13:50
Speaker 3: with it. So we'll be talking about that a little
13:52
Speaker 3: bit more tomorrow show. It is tomorrow though, so getting
13:55
Speaker 3: line started about three o'clock, we'll open the gates at four,
13:58
Speaker 3: have you out of here by about six, and we
14:01
Speaker 3: try to do it as orderly as we possibly can,
14:03
Speaker 3: but sometimes we don't always succeed. It's National Night Out.
14:06
Speaker 3: We're going to talk to some folks from Charleston Police
14:08
Speaker 3: Department about that coming up a little bit later on.
14:10

14:28
Speaker 3: Now he's here and he joined us this morning in
14:30
Speaker 3: the Jerry Construction studios. Good morning, sir, welcome aboard.
14:33
Speaker 6: Good morning, Thank you, very happy to be here.
14:35
Speaker 3: All right, give us the bio of Daniel Woods. Tell
14:37
Speaker 3: us about you well.
14:37
Speaker 13: I'm born and raised West Virginia, Morgantown, spent the first
14:41
Speaker 13: twenty three years of my life in Morgantown. I'm a
14:44
Speaker 13: proud graduate of West Virginia University as well. So I
14:48
Speaker 13: was one of those kids coming out of high school
14:50
Speaker 13: where I thought I wanted to go anywhere but college
14:52
Speaker 13: in West Virginia, and it worked out that I realized
14:56
Speaker 13: around that time that not only was WVU going to
14:59
Speaker 13: be my best it was the option that I wanted.
15:01
Speaker 6: So went to WVU.
15:03
Speaker 13: Spent the first close to twenty three years of my
15:05
Speaker 13: life in Morgantown. Then was in the sports television game
15:09
Speaker 13: for a little bit in the Clarksburg market, did that
15:13
Speaker 13: for about a year and a half, worked with the
15:16
Speaker 13: company with WVRC Media part time. When I was in college,
15:20
Speaker 13: did a year and a half in the TV game. Decided,
15:23
Speaker 13: you know what, that radio stuff that I did in
15:25
Speaker 13: college was a lot more fun. So an opportunity came
15:28
Speaker 13: up with Luke Wiggs, who some folks may have heard
15:31
Speaker 13: across the network as well, who is a very good
15:33
Speaker 13: friend of mine from college, with our Martinsburg office to
15:37
Speaker 13: go out there be part of their news and sports product,
15:39
Speaker 13: and that's what I've been doing for a little bit
15:42
Speaker 13: over a year and a half now. Opportunity came around
15:46
Speaker 13: with the Morning News to be the sports update anchor
15:48
Speaker 13: there and have been doing that remotely for Martinsburg for
15:52
Speaker 13: a little while now and have now fully vested myself
15:57
Speaker 13: in this Charleston office. Today is my first day act
16:00
Speaker 13: in the building. So very excited to be here and
16:02
Speaker 13: very excited to get started with that as well as
16:05
Speaker 13: the West Virginia State University football and basketball product we're
16:08
Speaker 13: going to be bringing to one of seven three the
16:10
Speaker 13: Beat too.
16:10
Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll talk about that a little bit later on.
16:12
Speaker 3: What was it that made you want to get in
16:14
Speaker 3: this crazy business to begin with? Because it's a special
16:17
Speaker 3: kind of crazy that wants to do this, you know,
16:18
Speaker 3: you realize that, right.
16:19
Speaker 13: Absolutely, And I like to think that I'm that kind
16:23
Speaker 13: of crazy, and the poster child for that kind of crazy,
16:26
Speaker 13: I think, is the person that made me want to
16:27
Speaker 13: do this. I grew up both my parents are teachers,
16:30
Speaker 13: so I grew up having to go to school earlier
16:32
Speaker 13: than everybody else. And I would be riding to school
16:36
Speaker 13: in the car with my mom in Morgantown and would
16:39
Speaker 13: flip WVQ on and it was the Eric and Kevin
16:42
Speaker 13: Show every morning and Eric Maguire. It just seemed like
16:46
Speaker 13: had fun going to work every day, and it didn't
16:48
Speaker 13: seem like a job for that guy. And I thought,
16:51
Speaker 13: you know, from the time I was sex seven years old,
16:54
Speaker 13: that seems pretty fun.
16:55
Speaker 6: Maybe I'd like to do that.
16:57
Speaker 13: And then I've been a massive sports in my entire life.
17:00
Speaker 13: I played just about anything you could think of growing up,
17:04
Speaker 13: and then when I got to high school, was playing
17:07
Speaker 13: high school basketball. Tore my ACL not once, but twice
17:10
Speaker 13: during thigh school overachiever, I try, I try my best,
17:14
Speaker 13: tour my ACL twice in about two and a half years,
17:19
Speaker 13: and in the meantime became the PA announcer for my
17:22
Speaker 13: high school's soccer team, and that kind of unlocked something
17:27
Speaker 13: with the radio love for radio that I had as
17:30
Speaker 13: a kid, and joined the college radio station at WVU,
17:34
Speaker 13: fell in love with it even more there and It's
17:36
Speaker 13: what I wanted to do since.
17:38
Speaker 3: Doctor to Daniel Woods, who is a the newest member
17:40
Speaker 3: of our team. Here in Charles of a. Dave Allen
17:41
Speaker 3: showing five eighty Live is presented apart by Generations Physical Therapy.
17:45
Speaker 3: Nine practices all offer an extended hours so access to
17:47
Speaker 3: physical therapy has never been easier. To get your appointment
17:50
Speaker 3: three zero four seven, six zero fifty six sixty or
17:53
Speaker 3: visit Generations PT dot com. All right, I got to
17:55
Speaker 3: ask you, since you're a sports guy. We know you're
17:56
Speaker 3: a Mountaineer fan, all right, who are your sports teams?
17:59
Speaker 3: Because we're very competitive around here about our respective sports team.
18:03
Speaker 3: So who are your teams other than WVU.
18:05
Speaker 13: Well, it starts first and foremost, unfortunately, and I've taken
18:09
Speaker 13: the beating for this over the years with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
18:11
Speaker 13: It starts with with my with my dad, who grew
18:14
Speaker 13: up on the Kingwood Pike outside of Morgantown, uh, listening
18:17
Speaker 13: to Bob Prince on the radio with his grandfather, and
18:20
Speaker 13: then that was passed down to me. And I've gotten
18:23
Speaker 13: three playoff appearances in my lifetime. But we we we
18:25
Speaker 13: deal with that, we you and weekly because we think
18:28
Speaker 13: Pirates unit.
18:29
Speaker 3: I'm trying to think of as any other Pirates fans
18:31
Speaker 3: in the building. I don't think that there is. But
18:35
Speaker 3: all right, so we got the Pirates down, who will right?
18:37
Speaker 13: And then I know that the combined fandom of of
18:41
Speaker 13: WVU and and Pittsburgh sports is a little bit controversial
18:44
Speaker 13: for some people, but it's it is just a proximity
18:47
Speaker 13: thing to the city of Pittsburgh Steelers fan in general.
18:50
Speaker 6: Uh.
18:51
Speaker 13: And then growing up as a the folks at home
18:56
Speaker 13: can't see, you know. Radio is a visual medium, as
18:58
Speaker 13: we all know. But I'm not the smallest guy in
19:01
Speaker 13: the room, and I was more of a post player
19:04
Speaker 13: during my basketball days. And as I was growing up,
19:07
Speaker 13: became a huge fan of Karl Anthony Towns, so through
19:10
Speaker 13: that became a Minnesota Timberwolves fan. So, not having an
19:13
Speaker 13: NBA team in the market in the Pittsburgh or really
19:17
Speaker 13: even anywhere generally close area around Morgantown, became a Minnesota
19:21
Speaker 13: Timberwolves fan because of that. So that's the outlier. But
19:24
Speaker 13: other than that, it's WVU and Pittsburgh teams that I
19:26
Speaker 13: grew up rooting for, and the Penguins too.
19:28
Speaker 3: Yeah, for the most part, Okay, all right, I gotta
19:30
Speaker 3: throw that in because I've just become a hockey fan
19:32
Speaker 3: of the last couple of years, and I'm a pans
19:34
Speaker 3: gap sore. You go, and now we're going to be
19:36
Speaker 3: hearing you calling the action of West Virginia State football
19:39
Speaker 3: on the beat this season. Talk about how excited you
19:41
Speaker 3: are for that and the preparation to get ready to
19:44
Speaker 3: do these games.
19:44
Speaker 13: I'm really fired up for it. We had a really
19:47
Speaker 13: strong Division two product in our Martinsburg office with Shepherd
19:52
Speaker 13: University that Luke Wiggs, who I mentioned before, is kind
19:55
Speaker 13: of the head guy on and I was able to
19:57
Speaker 13: be a part of that. And frankly, grow up in
20:00
Speaker 13: West Virginia. You know there's WVU, there's Marshall. But as
20:05
Speaker 13: someone who's just a sports fanatic, I have a really
20:07
Speaker 13: strong appreciation for Division two athletics and there's really good
20:10
Speaker 13: Division two athletes all over West Virginia. So getting ready
20:13
Speaker 13: for West Virginia State, I think it's an exciting thing
20:16
Speaker 13: to be able to bring to the table just because
20:19
Speaker 13: it is a program that it seems to me, at
20:23
Speaker 13: the very least with John Pennington at the Helm is
20:25
Speaker 13: doing a lot of the right things and is going
20:27
Speaker 13: to a lot of the right places in The Mountain
20:29
Speaker 13: East Conference is such a fun competitive league from top
20:31
Speaker 13: to bottom every year that I'm really excited than basketball season.
20:35
Speaker 13: We don't have to get all the way into that,
20:36
Speaker 13: but I have a ton of respect for Brian por
20:39
Speaker 13: Cover in basketball in the state of West Virginia as well.
20:42
Speaker 13: So I think getting ready for this football season obviously,
20:46
Speaker 13: if I'm correct, got practices starting this week for the Yellowjackets.
20:49
Speaker 13: I want to get out there talk to as many
20:51
Speaker 13: people as possible. Know there's a new athletic director in
20:53
Speaker 13: place as well that I need to meet with, and
20:57
Speaker 13: I've got some personal connections to coach Pennington as well
21:01
Speaker 13: that I want to get out there and shake his
21:03
Speaker 13: hand and put a name to a face. But I'm
21:06
Speaker 13: just really excited to hit the ground running and not
21:09
Speaker 13: only serve as the voice for for the Yellow Jackets,
21:12
Speaker 13: but get out there all over the state, all over
21:14
Speaker 13: the NEC and all over Division two football.
21:16
Speaker 3: Well, I want to go ahead and make a programming
21:18
Speaker 3: note right now is you know every Friday I have
21:21
Speaker 3: Chris Lawrence and Tom Bragg on the show to talk
21:23
Speaker 3: about whatever high school games. So let's go ahead and
21:25
Speaker 3: plan on you coming on on Friday mornings to talk
21:28
Speaker 3: about not only West Virginia State, but all the other
21:30
Speaker 3: schools and the Mountain East as well.
21:32
Speaker 6: Sounds sounds great.
21:33
Speaker 3: As long as your schedule allows, because we're going to
21:34
Speaker 3: keep you pretty busy right here because you're doing sports news,
21:37
Speaker 3: you know whatever. I think so, and you're gonna be
21:38
Speaker 3: here for the backpack attack tomorrow. I believe that's what
21:42
Speaker 3: you haven't lived. You seen the backpack attack. It will
21:44
Speaker 3: be a lot of fun.
21:45
Speaker 13: All I know is I walked in this morning and
21:47
Speaker 13: and the Big Boss said, that's that space you parked
21:49
Speaker 13: in this morning.
21:50
Speaker 6: Yeah, you can't park that tomorrow.
21:51
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well yeah, that's uh. There'll be an email
21:54
Speaker 3: from Tracy out front to go around everybody to her
21:56
Speaker 3: mind us we're not allowed to park in the parking
21:58
Speaker 3: lot tomorrow. We'll to park in the next lot over
22:00
Speaker 3: because this parking lot is going to be filled with
22:02
Speaker 3: vans and tents and so on and so forth and
22:04
Speaker 3: about two thousand screaming kids and some screaming it is indeed,
22:11
Speaker 3: but Dave Island Showing five eighty live is brought to
22:12
Speaker 3: you apart by Meeks Rentals and Leasing. If you're a
22:14

22:18
Speaker 3: that's looking for a well maintained place to live. They
22:20
Speaker 3: can help visit meeks rentals dot com. All right, so
22:22
Speaker 3: this has become a tradition now with all the new
22:26
Speaker 3: hires right here, and again, you're not a new hire,
22:28
Speaker 3: but you're new to the building. Did they give you
22:29
Speaker 3: an access key?
22:30
Speaker 6: You got that?
22:30
Speaker 9: Yes?
22:31
Speaker 3: Yeah, I can't actually get in on my own. Now
22:33
Speaker 3: tell you a funny story. We call Fred, Uncle Fred.
22:36
Speaker 3: You know Uncle Fred went up to Morgantown for a
22:38
Speaker 3: meeting last week and his access key didn't work. Oh no,
22:42
Speaker 3: how could you do that? How can you do that
22:44
Speaker 3: to Fred of all people? All right, so this is
22:46
Speaker 3: a tradition we do. So I said, you're not really new,
22:48
Speaker 3: you're just new the building. We're going to play ten questions,
22:50
Speaker 3: Doniel Woods. That's right. Are are you ready?
22:52
Speaker 6: I'm ready?
22:53

23:15
Speaker 13: Oh, that's I gotta, I gotta, I gotta think back
23:18
Speaker 13: on this one. My mom was my elementary school fizzed teacher.
23:21
Speaker 13: So I feel like I might. I feel like I
23:23
Speaker 13: might get in trouble if I don't say missus Woods.
23:25
Speaker 3: All right, especially if she's listening on the app right now.
23:27
Speaker 6: There's a decent chance she is. That's the thing, all right.
23:29
Speaker 13: The most beautiful place you've ever visited, Isle of Palm,
23:33
Speaker 13: South Carolina.
23:33
Speaker 3: All right, Betty or Wilma.
23:37
Speaker 13: Oh that's that's a question that has never crossed my mind. Yeah,
23:41
Speaker 13: I'm gonna say Wilma.
23:42
Speaker 6: Okay.
23:43
Speaker 14: Uh.
23:43
Speaker 3: The one musical act you will never get tired of
23:47
Speaker 3: and could listen to over and over and over again.
23:50
Speaker 6: The Beatles?
23:51
Speaker 3: Okay, You and Ron Hughes will get along greater. Okay,
23:54
Speaker 3: Colonel Ron? What goes on your burger? Let us on
23:59
Speaker 3: your pickle? Ketch it mustard? All right? Your sports hero
24:04
Speaker 3: is Andrew McCutcheon, all right, Your secret fear or phobia heights?
24:13
Speaker 3: All time favorite movie? Oh, brother w Art though, all right,
24:17
Speaker 3: you've passed.
24:18
Speaker 6: That's it.
24:18
Speaker 13: I'm I'm glad that I've I got at least at
24:21
Speaker 13: least a seven out of ten.
24:22
Speaker 6: You passing, Greg, you did.
24:23
Speaker 3: Fine, You did fine. We'll be listening for you now.
24:25
Speaker 3: So primarily you're gonna be on the morning news as
24:27
Speaker 3: you have been for some time. But we're also gonna
24:29
Speaker 3: hear you on the news, and we're gonna hear you
24:31
Speaker 3: on West Virginia State football and basketball.
24:34
Speaker 13: That's a plan, unless unless somebody decides to decides to
24:37
Speaker 13: make a change, unless I make the wrong people upset.
24:40
Speaker 3: Well, here's the thing I've learned with this company, and
24:42
Speaker 3: I've been here for five years. Okay, if you let them,
24:45
Speaker 3: if you ever utter the phrase, is there anything I
24:48
Speaker 3: can do to help, You'll be helping. Okay, Just so
24:51
Speaker 3: you know, we'll be loading vans. We're gonna be live
24:56
Speaker 3: this Saturady day. We're gonna be at Trojan Landing given
24:59
Speaker 3: a way a thousand bucks in cash and a brand
25:02
Speaker 3: new motorcycle. So we got to Kegs for canines. We'll
25:06
Speaker 3: be there the Mountain will be there for that over
25:08
Speaker 3: at Red Carpet Lounge raising money for the Kenneal Charlestney
25:12
Speaker 3: Main Association. So we'll be there at Keggs for Canine.
25:14
Speaker 3: So bottom line is, Daniel, if you tell people I'm
25:17
Speaker 3: willing to help, they'll put you to work, right, That's
25:19
Speaker 3: what we do here.
25:20
Speaker 6: Well, I'm willing. I'm willing to get to work. I
25:23
Speaker 6: will say.
25:24
Speaker 13: The early the early days for the morning news may
25:27
Speaker 13: preclude me from, I guess, afternoon and evening activities.
25:29
Speaker 3: But normally what time you normally get up.
25:32
Speaker 6: Let's see when.
25:34
Speaker 13: I was when I was doing the morning news for Martinsburg,
25:37
Speaker 13: four thirty was usually the time the alarm was set.
25:39
Speaker 13: I would imagine getting settled here. It's going to be
25:41
Speaker 13: a little earlier for the next few weeks.
25:42
Speaker 3: Well, I mean, Jenkins and Lawrence hit the building at
25:45
Speaker 3: about three thirty or four in the building, I.
25:48
Speaker 13: Was gonna say, I'm I'm by all. I'm not not
25:50

29:05
Speaker 3: hear you brought back five questions on the exit interview.
29:07
Speaker 3: I did lose count well, actually there were ten questions there,
29:11
Speaker 3: and I was telling Daniel Poor Aaron Parker from our
29:14
Speaker 3: news department, who's on vacation this week? Aaron's first day
29:18
Speaker 3: I've started doing this years ago where I bring people
29:21
Speaker 3: in and just have a little fun with him. Let
29:22
Speaker 3: you the listeners get to know who they are. And
29:24
Speaker 3: Aaron Parker young, Aaron Parker, fresh out of college, and
29:28
Speaker 3: we set him down and I'm prepared to do the interview.
29:30
Speaker 3: He's a little nervous anyway, and Jeff Jenkins comes running
29:33
Speaker 3: in here, grabs him, you know, by the shoulder, pushes
29:35
Speaker 3: him out of the way because we just learned on
29:37
Speaker 3: that particular day that Jerry West had died and it
29:40
Speaker 3: was breaking news. So the news guy got bumped for
29:44
Speaker 3: breaking news on that particular day. Let me see here.
29:49
Speaker 3: I got some text too, get to you here in
29:50
Speaker 3: a moment. But I do want to talk a little
29:52
Speaker 3: bit about National Night Out. Travis Bales from the Charleston
29:55
Speaker 3: Police Department Shore, Welcome to the show, sir. How are
29:57
Speaker 3: you any thanks for favous. I'm not going to play
29:59
Speaker 3: the ten question game with you because you have a
30:01
Speaker 3: badge and a gun. Okay, that's fine, it's fair enough,
30:04
Speaker 3: all right, So let's talk about the event overall tonight,
30:06
Speaker 3: National Night Out. I mean this is something that again
30:09
Speaker 3: it's national, that's the name National Night Out, and police
30:11
Speaker 3: departments across the country, several within West Virginia too. We
30:16
Speaker 3: interviewed some folks on Metro News Midday yesterday having one
30:18
Speaker 3: up in the Eastern Panhandle. It's just a way for
30:22
Speaker 3: the police departments to interact with the communities, talk about them.
30:25
Speaker 7: Yeah, it's a great way for not only the police department,
30:26
Speaker 7: but the neighborhoods to come together, get to know their neighbors,
30:29
Speaker 7: get to know us. It's all about unity and you know,
30:32
Speaker 7: show them what can happen when people who live in
30:35
Speaker 7: the same areas know each other.
30:37
Speaker 3: So what what exactly is going to go on? What
30:38
Speaker 3: time does everything get underway tonight?
30:40
Speaker 7: And there's going to start about six until around eight o'clock.
30:43
Speaker 7: We only have events at Orchard Manor, Carol Terrace, South
30:47
Speaker 7: Park Village, and the nine hundred block at sixth Street
30:50
Speaker 7: planned Carol excuse me, Orchard Manor.
30:53
Speaker 9: There.
30:53
Speaker 7: We're going to have assistance with the FBI and the
30:55
Speaker 7: dj They're going to be there offering IDs for children
30:59
Speaker 7: if they want them. We're gonna have.
31:01
Speaker 3: Food for They explain that IDs for kids.
31:03
Speaker 7: Why why would kid want an ID for the parents
31:05
Speaker 7: to have in cases, you know, maybe their kid goes missing.
31:07
Speaker 7: It'd be an easy way to streamline that information to
31:11
Speaker 7: the law enforcement.
31:12
Speaker 3: Okay, and what else is going on there?
31:13
Speaker 7: Free food, We're gonna have hot dogs, We're gonna have
31:16
Speaker 7: box lunches from sheets provided. And there's gonna be bounce houses,
31:20
Speaker 7: games from Parks and rec and police cars there if
31:24
Speaker 7: kids want to check them out, and just hanging out.
31:26
Speaker 3: And again, sheets is a big part of this thing nationwide,
31:29
Speaker 3: I think, I mean, I think this is kind of
31:31
Speaker 3: their one of their initiatives as well. So the big
31:35
Speaker 3: question is who's growing up the hot dogs.
31:37
Speaker 7: It'll be a joint effort between the Aspire Achievement Project
31:40
Speaker 7: and the Charleston Police Department of Parks and Rec. We're
31:42
Speaker 7: gonna all hop on a grill.
31:43
Speaker 3: And again, this is a great opportunity for It's not
31:46
Speaker 3: only because and I guess, I guess Officer I didn't
31:50
Speaker 3: phrase this correctly when I was talking about the importance
31:53
Speaker 3: of the police department in this. It's not just that,
31:55
Speaker 3: because it's a lot of times this is about the
31:57
Speaker 3: community getting to know each other. Because you know, we
32:00
Speaker 3: live in a society in West Virginia is the friendliest
32:03
Speaker 3: place on earth. We all know that, but sometimes people
32:07
Speaker 3: just don't as my dad used to say in the church,
32:09
Speaker 3: they don't fellowship one with the other as much as
32:11
Speaker 3: they as they used to. People even in West Virginia
32:14
Speaker 3: can live on the same street or in the same
32:17
Speaker 3: neighborhood with somebody you know for ten years and never
32:20
Speaker 3: speak to them, and it's a great opportunity for the
32:22
Speaker 3: neighbors to get to know each other as well.
32:23
Speaker 7: Yeah, that's one hundred percent correct. Unfortunately, there are so
32:26
Speaker 7: many neighborhoods where people don't know their neighbors. And when
32:29
Speaker 7: you know the neighbors and you know the police officers,
32:32
Speaker 7: crime goes down. That's been proven.
32:35
Speaker 3: And talk about the importance of the police officers being
32:39
Speaker 3: in the community when there's good stuff going on, because
32:42
Speaker 3: i mean, let's face it, in certain areas all over
32:46
Speaker 3: the country, the only time they see somebody that looks
32:48
Speaker 3: like you is if something's gone wrong.
32:50
Speaker 7: Yeah, we want people to know that they don't just
32:52
Speaker 7: need to see us when they call nine one one.
32:54
Speaker 7: We're here for them anytime they need us. And we're
32:56
Speaker 7: not just badges. We're people were you know coach is,
33:00
Speaker 7: we're you know, fathers and mothers, and we're just people
33:03
Speaker 7: that are out here trying to help and trying to
33:05
Speaker 7: do the right thing.
33:06
Speaker 3: Talk about some of your experiences in the past at
33:08
Speaker 3: these at events similar to this, some some success door.
33:11
Speaker 3: Not to mention the kid's name or anything, but just
33:13
Speaker 3: talk about some of the things that you've seen at
33:15
Speaker 3: these events over the years.
33:16
Speaker 7: The kids coming out and hanging out with us, little kids,
33:19
Speaker 7: they love us, and we want to keep that going
33:22
Speaker 7: as long.
33:22
Speaker 8: As we can.
33:23
Speaker 7: As kids get older, they might get a little, you know,
33:26
Speaker 7: disgruntled towards us, but we want to we want to
33:28
Speaker 7: break that wall and let them know that, you know,
33:30
Speaker 7: we're not.
33:33
Speaker 2: Anything but here to help them well.
33:34
Speaker 3: And I think sometimes we talked about that with a
33:36
Speaker 3: police officer yesterday. Actually it was the sheriff of Jefferson County.
33:39
Speaker 3: We had on Metro News midday yesterday. We talked about
33:42
Speaker 3: that with him, that sometimes parents trying to get the
33:46
Speaker 3: kids to calm down to look. You know, my parents
33:49
Speaker 3: did the same thing, saying I'm going to call the
33:51
Speaker 3: police on you if you if you don't behave, you
33:53
Speaker 3: don't do your homework, you don't clean up whatever, We're
33:55
Speaker 3: going to call the police.
33:56
Speaker 9: Oney.
33:57
Speaker 3: They don't really mean anything bad by it, but it
33:59
Speaker 3: can put some negative vibes out there.
34:01
Speaker 7: It can you know, parents like to throw that out there.
34:04
Speaker 7: They see its ound in public, say I'm gonna get
34:06
Speaker 7: that guy to arriscue if you don't start behaving, We're
34:08
Speaker 7: not going to do that. If anything, we're gonna give
34:10
Speaker 7: them a stick or badge and you know, send him underway.
34:13
Speaker 3: Yeah, you know it's kid. We're talking about Travis Beales
34:15
Speaker 3: from the Charleston Police Department. National Night Out is going
34:17
Speaker 3: on throughout the city of Charleston to night also, it's
34:20
Speaker 3: going on I think what I think Dunbar was one
34:23
Speaker 3: of the other communities that's going to be doing this,
34:24
Speaker 3: but it's going on all all around America. And again
34:28
Speaker 3: it's an opportunity to for for residents of the communities
34:32
Speaker 3: to say thank you to you folks. I know that's
34:35
Speaker 3: not why you're doing it, but unfortunately, you know, you
34:39
Speaker 3: guys have had a bad rap the last couple of years.
34:42
Speaker 3: Not Charleston police, I mean police in general. I mean
34:45
Speaker 3: the national narrative. We've all seen it. It's hard to
34:48
Speaker 3: find people to want to come to be police officers
34:51
Speaker 3: because of the things that you you have to put
34:53
Speaker 3: up with. So if you're somebody that's living in the community.
34:56
Speaker 3: It would be a great opportunity, just like you would
34:58
Speaker 3: with a veteran, to go up and shake their hands,
35:00
Speaker 3: say we appreciate what you do.
35:01
Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, we appreciate that very much. We do know
35:04
Speaker 7: that the silent majority are the ones that do appreciate
35:07
Speaker 7: us and love the work we do. And we're always
35:10
Speaker 7: happy to meet folks that want to, you know, tell
35:14
Speaker 7: us how you know what's going on in their community
35:16
Speaker 7: or what we can do to help them, or just
35:17
Speaker 7: show appreciation.
35:18
Speaker 3: And when it comes to policing, especially in larger areas
35:23
Speaker 3: well even smaller areas, I guess for that matter, it's
35:27
Speaker 3: you guys depend so much on the community. I mean,
35:32
Speaker 3: there's something going on, you know, the community is going
35:35
Speaker 3: to let you know about it. Yeah, And talk about
35:38
Speaker 3: that relationship with the community and how important it is
35:40
Speaker 3: to do in policing right.
35:42
Speaker 7: Absolutely, we can't do our jobs without the community telling
35:45
Speaker 7: us what to do. We can't be on every street
35:47
Speaker 7: corner twenty four to seven, So we need the community
35:49
Speaker 7: to trust us that we're going to do our job.
35:52
Speaker 7: If they call us, and that's what this event is about,
35:55
Speaker 7: they can get to know us on a more personal
35:56
Speaker 7: level and know that we're just not a police guard
35:59
Speaker 7: that's going to show up and they call us. We're
36:01
Speaker 7: real people that want to help with the real problems
36:04
Speaker 7: that they may be having because we live here too.
36:07
Speaker 3: What was it about this that made you want to
36:09
Speaker 3: do this to be a police officer? What was it
36:11
Speaker 3: that was that something that from an early age you
36:13
Speaker 3: wanted to do or something maybe later in life you said, well,
36:16
Speaker 3: I kind of fell into this job as many people do.
36:18
Speaker 3: What was it for you that made you want to
36:20
Speaker 3: do this?
36:20
Speaker 7: Well, growing up, like a lot of people, I followed
36:23
Speaker 7: in my father's footsteps. He was a deputy for thirty years, okay,
36:26
Speaker 7: and you know, but other than that, you get to
36:29
Speaker 7: get out here and the old cliche, it's a front
36:32
Speaker 7: road seat to the greatest show in the world. It's
36:35
Speaker 7: something different every day and you can truly help people.
36:38
Speaker 7: You're not going to change the world, but you can
36:39
Speaker 7: change somebody's world. You can get back that weed eater
36:42
Speaker 7: that was stolen from the gram all up the street
36:45
Speaker 7: and really make her a day.
36:46
Speaker 6: And that's that's what it's all about.
36:47
Speaker 3: Yeah, And where we're talking to it with the officer
36:49
Speaker 3: Travis Bales of the City of Charleston Police Department about
36:52
Speaker 3: the national Night Out event that's going to be going
36:54
Speaker 3: on here in this area, but it's also going on
36:56
Speaker 3: across the country as well, and it's it is I
37:00
Speaker 3: on us a little bit. We're not going to solve
37:01
Speaker 3: this here today, but it's difficult to get people to
37:03
Speaker 3: want to do what you guys and gals do for
37:07
Speaker 3: a living. I know, anytime I have police office, police
37:10
Speaker 3: departments on, I have, you know, the sheriff's on whatever,
37:14
Speaker 3: they always say, we need people, we need people. What
37:17
Speaker 3: would you say to somebody that is considering, maybe a
37:21
Speaker 3: young younger person entering adulthood right now, interthinking, well, I
37:24
Speaker 3: may want to become a police officer. What would be
37:28
Speaker 3: your selling point to them?
37:30
Speaker 7: Well, I can't speak for everywhere in the United States,
37:32
Speaker 7: but I can say here in Charleston, we are one
37:33
Speaker 7: of the best agencies around. We have great support, not
37:38
Speaker 7: just with the administration but with the community. We are
37:41
Speaker 7: able to get out here and do our jobs and
37:43
Speaker 7: be police officers and try to make a difference. You know,
37:48
Speaker 7: nationwide there has been issues with recruiting, but we are
37:51
Speaker 7: getting better here. Maybe you saw yesterday we just hired five.
37:55
Speaker 3: More Yeah, Actually, I had to Mayor on the show
37:56
Speaker 3: yesterday and she had to cut her interview a little
37:58
Speaker 3: bit short because she was going to go and swear
38:01
Speaker 3: in five new police officers.
38:02
Speaker 7: Yeah, and we gave an hiring test last weekend and
38:06
Speaker 7: we've got a pretty nice list going. So I'm optimistic
38:09
Speaker 7: about that and we'll hopefully get a few more by
38:12
Speaker 7: the end of the year. No say, but you still
38:13
Speaker 7: need more, right, We always need more because there's always
38:16
Speaker 7: retirements and other means of attrition.
38:18
Speaker 3: All right, Hey, officer, I appreciate you being here. Give
38:22
Speaker 3: us the details again about National Night Out of what
38:24
Speaker 3: specifically where you're going to be and what's going to
38:26
Speaker 3: be going on tonight.
38:27
Speaker 7: All right, National Night Out. It's gonna be six to
38:29
Speaker 7: eight pm tonight. We're gonna have events at Orchard Manor,
38:32
Speaker 7: carol Terrace, South Park Village, and the nine hundred block.
38:35
Speaker 5: At six Street.
38:36
Speaker 7: There's going to be food at all those locations and

38:41
Speaker 7: going on at Orchard Manor. But more than welcome to

42:55
Speaker 3: in uh and had criminals, hardened criminals to talk to them.
43:01
Speaker 3: And when I say they talk to them, they weren't,
43:04
Speaker 3: you know, saying okay, straighten up and fly right. No,
43:07
Speaker 3: they were in their face, cussing them, calling him everything
43:09
Speaker 3: in the world. And they would get a young a
43:11
Speaker 3: young guy that thought he was kind of tough for
43:13
Speaker 3: a young girl, get up in their faces and you
43:15
Speaker 3: think you're tough, Way do we get you in here?
43:17
Speaker 3: Kind of a thing. And uh, I I don't know
43:20
Speaker 3: how how much success the program had. But I can
43:25
Speaker 3: tell you, uh that the name Scared Straight was was
43:29
Speaker 3: pretty accurate for kids of my of my generation. I mean,
43:33
Speaker 3: I don't know. I mean I'm sure, I'm sure somebody
43:35
Speaker 3: would complain about it.
43:36
Speaker 10: Now.
43:36
Speaker 3: You know that that uh that you're going to hurt
43:39
Speaker 3: their feelings or something like that. Well, you know what,
43:42
Speaker 3: that's probably not a bad thing to hurt their hurt
43:44
Speaker 3: their feelings because at some point, kids are gonna have
43:48
Speaker 3: to learn, uh that life's not fair. And if you
43:51
Speaker 3: if I had any advice at all for anybody, it
43:54
Speaker 3: would be, you know, teach your kids life's not fair. Uh,
43:59
Speaker 3: just tell them straight up. You're gonna get screwed over
44:02
Speaker 3: sometimes and sometimes you're gonna get advantages that you shouldn't get.
44:06
Speaker 2: So so there you go.
44:08
Speaker 3: But I would be all for bringing programs like that back.
44:11
Speaker 3: I don't know what the like I said, I don't
44:13
Speaker 3: know what the success rate is. I have a hard
44:15
Speaker 3: time believing that you could do that today. But we
44:17
Speaker 3: do have a general lack of respect. We have a
44:19
Speaker 3: general lack of respect in society though, and I don't
44:22
Speaker 3: think it's I don't think it's fair to uh uh
44:26
Speaker 3: to blame to blame just kids, because we have a
44:32
Speaker 3: lack of respect in our society all around, and there
44:34
Speaker 3: are plenty of adults that could learn that as well.
44:39
Speaker 3: Coming up on the show tomorrow, we're gonna have a
44:42
Speaker 3: whole boatload of people here talking about the next ribbon cutting,
44:45
Speaker 3: the next project out of the Shawnee Sports Complex, uh
44:48
Speaker 3: some of their expansion. They got a business after hours
44:50
Speaker 3: going on. As I said, there's gonna be a ribbon
44:52
Speaker 3: cutting held, uh so in studio tomorrow. Kenawh County Commission
44:55
Speaker 3: President Ben Selango, Katie Arthur, who is executive director of
45:00
Speaker 3: the Shawnee Sports Complex, Jen Wood from ZMM Architects and Engineers,
45:04
Speaker 3: and Mara Boggs of the Charleston Area Alliance. They're all
45:06
Speaker 3: going to be in studio tomorrow. So let's see that's
45:10
Speaker 3: one two. Yeah, Okay, we're gonna have to have extra chairs, Ryan,
45:14
Speaker 3: and we're gonna put somebody in there think share a
45:16
Speaker 3: mike though, Well we'll make Selango stand. But yeah, they're
45:19
Speaker 3: all going to be on the show tomorrow. Now later
45:22
Speaker 3: today Metro News Midday with thirteen News and Tonight Live
45:24
Speaker 3: anchor Amanda Baron and me. The show is still a
45:26
Speaker 3: work in progress. I can tell you that during the
45:29
Speaker 3: two o'clock hour, Republican strategist Greg Thomas is going to
45:32
Speaker 3: stop by. We'll do open line West Virginia after two
45:34
Speaker 3: thirty and a good buddy, Jim Workman from the state's
45:37
Speaker 3: premier sports publication, Wally and Whippies, will join us in
45:42
Speaker 3: studio as well. Believe it or not, now that we're
45:44
Speaker 3: in the month of August, I mean, Joe Bricado of
45:46
Speaker 3: Metro News Sports is all over the state of West Virginia.
45:48
Speaker 3: I was following his travels yesterday on X I mean
45:52
Speaker 3: he was in I think he visited Spring Valley High
45:55
Speaker 3: School yesterday in Wayne County. He was a Tug Valley
45:57
Speaker 3: High School. To Mingo County, he was at GW. He's
46:01
Speaker 3: really really making the round. So high school football season
46:05
Speaker 3: is coming up, and of course we're going to have
46:06
Speaker 3: our Game of the Week and also Herbert Hoover Football
46:09
Speaker 3: this fall as well. But anyway, Jim Workman's going to
46:11
Speaker 3: join us to talk about some preseason polls as it
46:13
Speaker 3: comes to high school sports. He'll be joining Amanda and
46:16
Speaker 3: me coming up from noon to three on this another
46:18
Speaker 3: Metro News station's Metro News Midday is powered by Selango Law.
46:21
Speaker 3: Visits Selango Law dot com. Texas Scared Straight didn't work
46:26
Speaker 3: in West Virginia considering a large part of gen X
46:28
Speaker 3: and millennials were taken out by opioids. That's that's not wrong.
46:33
Speaker 3: I mean it's and here's the thing. And I've said
46:37
Speaker 3: this on the show before, and I don't want to
46:39
Speaker 3: come across with somebody who looks like, you know, I'm
46:40
Speaker 3: always complaining about these young kids today or whatever, But
46:44
Speaker 3: we put a lot of we give a lot of
46:48
Speaker 3: grief to the young people, you know, but who raised
46:52
Speaker 3: the young people? It was my generation. I mean, I'll
46:55
Speaker 3: be fifty five years old next month, so I didn't
46:58
Speaker 3: have kids. But if my wife and I will have
47:00
Speaker 3: had kids, our kids would have been of that age
47:03
Speaker 3: right now. So before you go blaming these kids today,
47:08
Speaker 3: somebody had to raise him. It was gen X that
47:11
Speaker 3: raised them to be the way they are, you know,
47:13
Speaker 3: So I get it. I get it. Someone called, according
47:20
Speaker 3: to producer Ryan, wanted to know why our representatives aren't
47:24
Speaker 3: holding town halls. We talked about this on the show yesterday.
47:28
Speaker 3: I can't answer that, you know, say what you want
47:33
Speaker 3: about Bernie Sanders. I am certainly one hundred percent not
47:37
Speaker 3: a fan of Bernie Sanders at all. But he does
47:42
Speaker 3: get out to the people, I'll say that. And he
47:45
Speaker 3: is going to Mingo County, West Virginia later this week,
47:48
Speaker 3: which I don't think is a very smart move. I'm
47:50
Speaker 3: not saying anything bad is going to happen or anything
47:52
Speaker 3: like that, but I know there's gonna be some good
47:54
Speaker 3: old boys with jacked up pickup trucks and the Trump signs.
47:57
Speaker 3: I've already seen them on line. We're headed to We're
47:59
Speaker 3: head to Leonore in Mingo County. Bernie's going to be
48:02
Speaker 3: in Leonore, He's going to be in Wheeling, He's going
48:04
Speaker 3: to be in Charleston, and there's going to be people
48:06
Speaker 3: showing up with MAGA hats and whatever.
48:08
Speaker 2: I give him credit.
48:09
Speaker 3: I don't like the guy and nothing is personally. I
48:12
Speaker 3: just don't like his policies, but he gets out and
48:15
Speaker 3: men to people, and there's a lot of people, a
48:18
Speaker 3: lot of elected officials that don't do that. I mean,
48:22
Speaker 3: somebody brought up yesterday the fact that Mayor Goodwin comes
48:26
Speaker 3: in the studio once a month and takes phone calls
48:30
Speaker 3: and it's open line, and a lot of our elected
48:33
Speaker 3: officials simply will not do that. They we ask would
48:37
Speaker 3: you like to take phone calls?
48:38
Speaker 9: Oh?
48:38
Speaker 3: No, no, no, And that's okay if they don't want
48:41
Speaker 3: to do it, but you know she does. I will
48:45
Speaker 3: say that any Texas jerry mandering updates. Last I heard,
48:50
Speaker 3: I guess the Democrats in Texas walked out because they
48:56
Speaker 3: didn't want to have this vote on this whole jerryman
49:00
Speaker 3: redistricting thing, and so they all went to Illinois's and
49:02
Speaker 3: the governor up there. I think it's giving them, like
49:04
Speaker 3: made it like a sanctuary city or something for the
49:07
Speaker 3: Democrats up there. You know, I don't know what's gonna happen.
49:10
Speaker 3: There's talk that, you know, they may be arrested, but
49:15
Speaker 3: then you get into a whole jurisdiction kind of thing.
49:17
Speaker 3: I mean, can Texas rangers or whatever go into Illinois
49:20
Speaker 3: and arrest somebody I don't know tex says JFC, And
49:25
Speaker 3: I know what JFC stands for. Are you all so
49:28
Speaker 3: dense to think that scared straight works? What evidence do
49:31
Speaker 3: you have?
49:32
Speaker 2: None?
49:33
Speaker 3: But your feelings tell you at work, brilliant strategy, use
49:35
Speaker 3: evidence based approaches if you want real results, says a textra.
49:40
Speaker 3: What do you not like about Bernie Sanders, says the Texter. Yes,
49:43
Speaker 3: good for Amy for showing up and answering all questions.
49:48
Speaker 3: How much time you got on Bernie Sanders. Because I'm
49:51
Speaker 3: a capitalist. That's why I don't like Bernie Sanders. Because
49:53
Speaker 3: I'm a capitalist. I'm not against him personally. I mean,
49:56
Speaker 3: I guess he's an alright guy for one hundred and
49:57
Speaker 3: eighty eight year old. But why would I like Bernie Sanders?
50:02
Speaker 3: I'm a capitalist?
50:04
Speaker 2: TJ.
50:04
Speaker 3: Meadows hey Man also.
50:07
Speaker 18: A capitalist as a good Socialism is great for about
50:10
Speaker 18: all thirty minutes or so.
50:12
Speaker 3: Until you run out of other people's money. Yes, as Margaret,
50:14
Speaker 3: that's you said me exactly, all right, exactly going on
50:17
Speaker 3: with you?
50:18
Speaker 18: Well, you know I'm hanging out, Okay, I'm hanging out,
50:22
Speaker 18: enjoying the last little bit of summer. School starts back
50:24
Speaker 18: next week. We were talking on our planning call this morning.
50:27
Speaker 18: I'm trying to get my ducks in a row for that,
50:29
Speaker 18: you know, dropping off kiddies. And I know you love
50:31
Speaker 18: that in the Greater tayste Metroplex, all the drop offs.
50:35
Speaker 18: You're a big fan of that.
50:36
Speaker 3: Don't get me started, don't get me started. Don't get
50:40
Speaker 3: me started time year. Part of the fun of being
50:43
Speaker 3: a kid is being bullied on the school bus. Okay,
50:46
Speaker 3: it builds a character as long as it doesn't go,
50:49
Speaker 3: as long as it doesn't get out of hand. And
50:50
Speaker 3: don't get me started on these entitled kids and these
50:53
Speaker 3: entitled parents that take their kid. I'm not talking about
50:55
Speaker 3: every parent. Okay, there are certain exceptions. I get that,
50:59
Speaker 3: but you can't tell me that every one of those
51:02
Speaker 3: those kids that that I encounter at as I'm trying
51:05
Speaker 3: to make my way and and please don't tell me.
51:08
Speaker 3: As the texture said last year, when I went off
51:10
Speaker 3: on a big rant about this, they were like, they said, well,
51:12
Speaker 3: just leave earlier. Why should I have to leave early?
51:14
Speaker 3: Put your kids on damn bus. That's that's why we're
51:18
Speaker 3: paying them. That's why we're paying The bus is a
51:20
Speaker 3: run at thirty about thirty percent capacity.
51:23
Speaker 18: Do you ever see the part of the Napoleon Dynamite
51:25
Speaker 18: where he throws the wrestler figure or whatever out the
51:27
Speaker 18: window and it drags along.
51:28
Speaker 6: We had a kid that did that on the you know,
51:31
Speaker 6: child of the eighties.
51:32
Speaker 3: I walked to school for crying out loud. Yeah, we
51:35
Speaker 3: looked to school. Our bus stop was about half a
51:40
Speaker 3: mile walk. I guess it probably wasn't that far, but
51:43
Speaker 3: we did have kids in our community that did walk
51:47
Speaker 3: at least two miles.
51:47
Speaker 18: I will say this though, the way people text and drive,
51:49
Speaker 18: I wouldn't let my kid walk on the side, walk
51:51
Speaker 18: along the road. I mean, because it's how many. You
51:54
Speaker 18: see it all the time. I see it all the time.
51:56
Speaker 18: It's crazy.
51:57
Speaker 3: Bernie's not against making money, says the texture. Dude made
51:59
Speaker 3: tens of millions of dollars writing books. He's against consolidating
52:02
Speaker 3: wealth to a few people while American starve and die,
52:05
Speaker 3: like a healthcare?
52:05
Speaker 6: How much wealth?
52:06
Speaker 3: Why should Bernie be the arbiter of how much money?
52:10
Speaker 6: Is too much money?
52:10
Speaker 3: Answer me that exactly. There is no such thing as
52:14
Speaker 3: too much money socialists. Yeah, all right, all right, I
52:17
Speaker 3: set the stages for you, buddy. What else you got
52:19
Speaker 3: on the show today?
52:19
Speaker 2: So Brad Mack is in.
52:20
Speaker 3: He's going to talk about that Snap waiver that we
52:22
Speaker 3: got yesterday. We'll also talk about green power.
52:25
Speaker 18: We're going to get into snap as well with the
52:27
Speaker 18: West Virginia Oil Marketer and Groceries Association.
52:30
Speaker 3: How will affect these retailers.
52:32
Speaker 18: We'll talk about jerry mandring in Texas late US there,
52:35
Speaker 18: that and w hole much more.
52:36
Speaker 3: All right, I'll be along with Metro News midday with
52:38
Speaker 3: thirteen News in TONIGHTLVE anchor Amanda Baron and me coming
52:41
Speaker 3: up at noon today. We'll see you then I'll be
52:44
Speaker 3: back on the show tomorrow. Till next time, have fun.
52:46
Speaker 3: I Love Somebody, y Ay w C H S A M.
53:04
Speaker 9: Ninety six point five. That's on Charleston one oh four
53:06
Speaker 9: point five Cross Lane w VRC Media Station. We're proud
53:12
Speaker 9: to live here, to
