Post credits is the segment where we go through movies, TV, entertainment, and all the good stuff in between. Nolan: Alright, well we got you know a short list of news nuggets and then a nice little handful of trailers Yeah, yeah, you know, it's it's it's kind of that slow season before the the blockbusters of the summer season kind of hit and you know We are we are here, but we do get some news nuggets. We got some fun trailers that we're gonna get into ⁓ and we are going to you know Talk about the finale. That was the boys season 5 series finale of correction, you know Jesus: Mm. think it's quality over quantity this week, you know what mean? Some good stuff coming out. Some are gonna be banging. Nolan: ⁓ But before we get to all that, let's hit the news nugget shaylen. ⁓ boy. Spoiler alert! Jesus: Yes we are. Let me tell you, we're gonna cover that finale boy, ho ho! We got some things to say, let me tell you that right now. Good God. Nolan: But let's start on some some high notes if you will Obsession, you know as we all know I am someone who is a fan of horror movies I am also a fan of you know people who do the best with what they have and curry barker who is known for That's not a great idea Instagram YouTube all that good stuff Jesus: Yes. Superman and Lois, thank you very much. She played Sarah Lang. Thank you very much. That was her big breakout role. No one cared about anything else she did except for Superman and Lois. You're welcome. Nolan: Yes, yes, yes, the actress on the screen everybody, yes. I her name is Indy Navaredi, if I pronounced that wrong, please forgive me. ⁓ But you know, the movie itself, now this is insane because this ⁓ is what we call a banger, okay? By no stretch of the imagination should you look at the number total. Jesus: Yes. Yes. Nolan: that they did but this movie was made on a budget of 750,000 sub one million sub one million everybody Jesus: In today's modern times, ladies and gentlemen, that just doesn't happen, okay? That's basically a glorified indie project because of all the marketing you've gotta do, of all the promo you gotta do with the stars of the film and all that other stuff. So these guys got paid literally next to nothing to be in the movie, first of all. And then on top of that, that's the crew, the production. Everything was in around 750K, that's crazy. It's crazy numbers. Crazy numbers right there. Nolan: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. That is crazy. It really is. And it couldn't have happened to a better guy, least from the outside looking in, because I have been a follower of their him and his friends page, Cooper. And they do some amazing stuff. And you wouldn't even know it, because this is like in, if we're doing Apples and Apples, this is kind of the next coming of Keon Peel, where Curry Barker is the Peel in this one, Jordan Peel in this one, because they started as a comedy sketch kind of group, and now he's moving on. on to do some kind of horror and you know deep mind-melting stuff but in its first weekend it made about 30 million so you know we we call that a big win in the business you know what I mean it's 750,000 and it is on track to potentially being one of the only films in history to earn a hundred million Jesus: That's a lot of money! Nolan: dollars on a budget of less than a hundred less than a million ⁓ so it is it is it's a rare feat and credit to this group ⁓ jalen is this a movie that you may maybe find yourself on on a you know easy going you you know school's out you maybe you're gonna find yourself in theater for this one at all Jesus: Yes, which is, again, incredible. Yeah. I don't know about a theater, I might wait, but I'm definitely gonna watch it because again, that's one of our ⁓ superhero transfers right there. ⁓ Loki, Jordan, good on ya for maybe not continuing your relationship with Miss Sarah Lang, cause it turns out she was crazy this whole time. ⁓ But ⁓ no, I think again, it's cool to see actors that I like, I thought she did fine as Sarah, she was kind of annoying towards the end, but overall she did a really good job. But it's cool to see people kind of graduate up, right? We like seeing the Nolan: do. Jesus: you know, the instant into pop culture. It's kinda one of those things for me. It's almost like when I tell people about small-bill actors that pop up everywhere, like you're welcome for Amy Adams, by the way. ⁓ It's one of those things that no one really talks about or cares about, but I do. So that's really where it's at for me. I'll try to at least watch it for her sake, because it is a Superman and Lois actor getting their due, and she is really good, and it looks like, at least from the trailer, she did a really good job, so yeah. Nolan: Mm-hmm. ⁓ yeah. Yeah, she looks haunting and I think that's what you want for this movie. Jesus: Yeah, she did her, yeah, she's very weird, yeah. You know, obsession is a good word there. It's a good, ⁓ Nolan: Yeah, I mean even like this still of her face looks like she's got some demons behind those eyes, you know But you know, ⁓ big kudos to curry barker and his crew and the cast ⁓ I'm hoping to hear even better news as the next weekend kind of develops ⁓ Next news. know we got everybody This is a weird one. Yeah, Michael Bay Now Jesus: Oh my god, oh my god. Michael Kinbay, man. Here we are. Here we are Michael fucking bay Nolan: Here is where things get a little funky. Michael Bay is developing a movie about the US-Iran War. The film follows the story of two US pilots rescued after their planes were shot down during Operation Epic Fury in Iran. ⁓ Jesus: Pfft Nolan: Now, ⁓ I'm never going to say that a movie is too soon, ⁓ considering, yeah, you know, according to the deadline, the director of the film, Jesus: ⁓ no. It would be Michael Bay making this movie by the Nolan: such as Armageddon, Transformers will work with Universal Pictures to bring a story to the screen. In April, two soldiers were rescued from their fighter jet after it was down, something Donald Trump called one of the most daring search and rescue operations in US history. ⁓ I think this kind of tells you a lot without telling you a lot about Michael Bay and his ⁓ maybe his friend groups? you know, now, politics aside, Jalen, what do you think about Jesus: does. Big Trump Humper that guy. Yep. Yep. Nolan: Him making a movie about this so fresh off of it happening like it it's maybe been a month Jesus: It's yeah, it's moronic. It's ridiculous. It's obscene. I think Nolan: You're gonna hurt a lot of your foreign markets as well, think. in... ⁓ Yeah, like... Jesus: Also that, like who's picking this movie up in China or anywhere overseas because that's such a violently disrespectful thing to do ⁓ in this current climate that we are in right now because of the state of the world. I will say this silver lining, if anyone's gonna make a military movie, if you've seen Transformers, any of them that he directed, the first three, ⁓ at least Michael Bay will have some authenticity to the military and do it respectfully. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Jesus: in his movie projects. That you cannot argue. When he does military things, it's as close as it should be. He works with real veterans. He usually will find some Air Force base to set up on location and get real people in there doing stuff and all that good stuff. He does take care of veterans. So I will give him that credence. However, it doesn't make the idea of this movie being made any less inappropriate. It is just outrageous as an idea. ⁓ Nolan: Yeah. Jesus: But yeah, this is this is weird man. This is not a good not a good look. There's no optics that'll save this movie. Nolan: Yeah, yeah, I'm I'm I gotta see who the cast is gonna be for this before I even you know, ⁓ you know, it's it's it's interesting. ⁓ Am I ready to see some some? Am I ready to see some ⁓ gratuitous drone shots and lens flares? ⁓ Maybe a Linkin Park score? Maybe? Yeah, you know, Jesus: looks at notes for Trump voters in Hollywood. Hell yeah! Come on, man! Nolan: But this is definitely gonna be a couch watch when it comes out for me. I don't think there have been few and far between of military movies where I've been like, yeah, I gotta go to the theater to watch this. This is not gonna change that tide. I'm gonna let you know right now. But we will see, know, as an American, you do wanna always kind of support the military and what they've done for our country. But, know, Jesus: Yeah, fighting for our fucking freedom, mate. Yeah. Hell yeah. Nolan: Yeah, yeah. you know what? I'll leave you guys on this note before I move to the next news nugget. I just wish we as country would invest more in the health and mental health of the veterans than what we put into them while they're serving. You know, it's more important that way if you really think about it. ⁓ But that's neither here nor there. I'm not a politician. I'm not an advocate. I'm just a guy with a podcast with some odd number. Jesus: Like some actual things, not just like, hey, there's a guy that's kinda licensed out to VA. Like no, let's get them in some real rehab programs, let's get them some structure when they're back home, let's actually take care of some people that, you know, fought for our fucking democracy or something. God forbid. Nolan: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Because their health is our health and our health as a whole is the country's health. So, so on so forth. Next news nugget. All right. More, more, more divisiveness. James Franco. is returning to Hollywood. ⁓ He's joining Rambo, John Rambo, which will be a prequel movie with Noah Centeno ⁓ as the titular character. ⁓ James Franco is diving into this. Now, if the director of this film is wise, he will have James Franco as someone who will die a gruesome death. ⁓ Because I don't, you know, we, we as a group. Jesus: Yes! Yes, very early. Maybe the opening shot. Nolan: You know, we, I believe in second chances. I do. I do. And we've, we're in this situation where ⁓ he is been accused and of some nefarious things. Well, we'll call it that way. But he is someone who is owned up to it. He is someone who's been like, I understand why. the people close to me in my life ⁓ have moved away from me, including his brother Dave Franco, Seth Rogen, who those two together have made comedic gold over the last decade and a half, if we're being honest. ⁓ And he's looking to move forward with his life, and I think that that's a big thing for him. ⁓ And we need that, you know? We need that in spades for some people. ⁓ Do I agree with it? Not necessarily. But I'm willing to give it a chance. I'm not going to look at the movie any differently because he's in it. ⁓ And maybe this will be kind of a therapeutic thing for him, but I'm not here to speak on that for who he is as a person. Jalen, your thoughts? Jesus: Yeah, it's so like it's second chance is a good and all that some people should be set on fire You know what mean? That's kind of where I'm at with it, then he is one of those people sorry It's because of what he was accused of doing and admitted to ⁓ Now those people can go fucking like I you know I mean like I there's no redemption. There's no second or redemption arc He's probably doing it right now as we speak honestly ⁓ Just saying like just like get him out of Hollywood never see his face again Nolan: Mm-hmm. All right. All right. All right. Yes. Yes. ⁓ god. Jesus: Great job in Spider-Man 3. That's about all I got to say for you. You know what mean? But that's it. You know? But just get out. I probably won't be seeing this particular film. I don't really judge this, like that kind of stuff ⁓ on a lot of actors like you said, right? It's just like, I try not to see the extra stuff when somebody is in a movie, right? But like, again, it's what happened and what he was accused of that is like, hard no for me. So that's gonna be... Nolan: Alright. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Fair enough. Fair enough. Fair enough. All right. Fuck you, James Franco. Dave Franco's way better. But yeah, know, Dave Franco's a beast. I love Dave Franco. Jesus: Nah, I'm out. out. So, you know. Pretty much, that's where I'm at. Lowkey, yeah, kinda got kinda better than James, okay, let's be honest. Just like on acting chops also. Nolan: Yeah, plays, Dave Franco plays a frantic, scared man in the best ways in every film he's had to do it. And I think that's, it's endearing. It's endearing. But yeah, we'll see how this movie kind of turns out. We'll see what role this James Franco ends up getting. has my excitement meter gone down a little bit? Yes, for this movie, because you know, John Rambo in itself is, it's a classic. Jesus: It's very true. It's very true. Nolan: series is a classic so we'll see what ends up happening. It doesn't have anything to do with Rey. But no, no, this is, it's some good stuff. Lucasfilm president Dave Filoni confirmed Star Wars big screen future. Jesus: ⁓ dear. ⁓ dear. ⁓ dear. Yeah, I know. Nolan: For me right now, rather than dealing with hard numbers like that, I'm just looking at the stories and the potential and planning what I'd like to do. I believe in having an overarching idea and then saying, okay, it's this many of that and then we can have that. There are certain things that have been in motion already that obviously I want to continue. John, Fabro. and have had a great partnership for many years now telling stories. So I look at the stories that I'm kind of planning and architecting and I look at other creative talents that bring us also great stories and I just try to find a way to make them all work. ⁓ What I will say is I love the enthusiasm but it is also very big, big quote of nothing. You know what I mean? Yeah, like he's saying a lot but not saying a lot. You know, he's really not. ⁓ Jesus: It's a nothing burger is what we call that Nolan. Big nothing burger. Nolan: He says that he has lot of ideas and visions ⁓ that he wants to bring to the fans. Yeah, everything is. And there was an extra quote that said, everything is proceeding as I have foreseen it. That is the most pompous statement I've ever heard. OK, yes, yes. ⁓ But Jalen, let me know what you think about this Nothing Burger quote. Jesus: Okay, what are they? That's what I know. Okay, okay fucking Palpatine looking ass dude, are you kidding me fuck out of here Dave Filoni Like this and like I get that he's George's like, you know apprentice guy and that's why he got the job But like he's he's not doing any better of a job right now than Kathleen Kennedy And that's the tea that nobody wants to talk about that is a that's a take I understand But like let's get real fucking real like he is doing about a good a job as Kathleen Kennedy did back when she was in that position Okay, and let's be it also real. She's also somebody that approved everything good that ever happened under Disney So if you liked Rogue One Nolan: do it. Jesus: She had to approve that at some point in time. That had to go through her office and she had to give the final yes or no. Nolan: Keep in mind, Dave Filoni was not a fan of Andor. Jesus: Correct! Andor! Another thing that happened under Kathleen Kennedy. Bang! Like, The Force Awakens, great film, made over like, well, almost two billion dollars. Kathleen Kennedy. Nolan: The greatest Star Wars show we have ever had. Not that the bar was high. It is the, everyone, everyone keep in mind, it is the highest grossing film in the US market. It beat out all the Avengers, beat out Avatar, it is the highest grossing film in our North American market. Just keep that in mind. Jesus: Period. Period. End of story. If you liked the last season of Clone Wars, the conclusion, the thing that finally he was able to do as Dave Filoni and see his vision through, Kathleen Kennedy went through and approved that and did that. So you can say all of the things to detract from Kathleen Kennedy that you want, but you don't get to talk about her Mrs. without talking about her makes. Type shit. You know what saying? Nolan: Time shit, time shit. Jesus: So, like, that's where we're at, and like, this quote from Dave Filoni tells me exactly what I thought would happen when he got this kind of position. He has a lot of grandiose ideas, and I can tell you what he's thinking right now, how do I get all my Rebels characters into live action? Because that's exactly what fucking Ahsoka was. It was just Rebels season five, like, that's what that was. ⁓ And that's kind of annoying, not gonna lie. I don't think he really has a clear focus on the main lineage of Star Wars, which is the Skywalker. legacy and saga and all those other things. I think he's very much into the lore. I think he very much understands what George wanted to do with the properties and stuff like that, clearly. Obviously, if you've listened to an interview, he knows his stuff. But I genuinely don't think he understands how to build a world outside of animation. I don't. Nolan: Yeah, yeah. ⁓ I would equate this to, and Jalen, you can attest to this, this is kind of a, this is ⁓ the difference between a good coach and a athlete babysitter, where, you know, they come into the timeout and you're just like, hey, we gotta do better, guys. We gotta put some more points on the board. We gotta, we're gonna turn this thing around. If we wanna win this match, we gotta win this next set. Okay, coach, how do we do that? Jesus: That's right. That's right. Yeah! That's right. Nolan: Just gotta go out there and do it. We gotta do better than the other team. Like, no, you gotta give us something. Like, you've been in this role for just a few months now, so I'll give you that. But if you're gonna take over a seat of Kathleen Kennedy... We need to know what you got in mind. Like, why did they hire you? There was something that happened in those meetings that where they gave you and forgive me, I forgot the other person's name. I want to say it's Wynn something. There's another person that's like co-head with him. ⁓ Jesus: something. Nolan: But there has to be a reason where you sat with the board and said, this is my vision. And what is that vision? Like, I'd like to know. Obviously, we have we have seen it in the past where studios put the cart before the horse. ⁓ The old DCEU, where they kind of had this ginormous plan of things. The old monster verse from Universal where they wanted to start it off. They said they had they were going to do everything. They did a whole expose on, I think, in Variety. And none of those actors got to see the light of day on screen. ⁓ Jesus: I can't remember that thing. Jeez. That's a- Mm-hmm. Yep, sure did. Nolan: So I'm not saying I need you to give us a bullet point by bullet point by bullet point of what your plan is but I would love for you Mr. Filoni to at least give us something like just even if it was like hey we have a new trilogy coming out it's gonna be something completely different from the world of skywalkers and we are really excited to bring it to you we're gonna bring a new Jedi a new new villainous order that's gonna be encroaching it's a hundred years after the last film. Yes. Jesus: bright. The Old Republic is sitting right there, waiting. And you already did an E3 announcement trailer about a game in development during that time period. Why not just, like, send us into the next decade of Star Wars content going into the Old Republic? Build something completely new or granite from ground up. Doesn't have to be Skywalker Saga all the time. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Yes, have fun. Have fun. Do something exciting. Look, look, like that's this is where he has like the he has the golden ticket. You can make something completely different, not connected at all to the past movies or franchise. And have no one be like, well, that goes against source material, like does it because there's no source material on something that happens way in the future away from everything else, maybe in a different galaxy far, far away. You know what I mean? Like Jesus: or even farther off in the past. Like Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic is one of the best games that's ever been published and produced. Technically not canon anymore. So you have free reign to adapt anything in there the way that you want. Star Wars The Old Republic, another great game that's been alive for almost, what, 10, 15 years now? ⁓ And that game has tons of bits and lore that's technically not canon that you can pull into mainstream canon now. So like... Nolan: Mm-hmm. Jesus: There's so many avenues to go and explore that world and Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor dived into that era as well with that villain. Like dude, like the Old Republic is the way to go. I don't know how many times we have to say it as Star Wars fans. Like we want to see that era of content. I wanna see Malgus, I wanna see Revan, I wanna see all the crazy stuff that happened before the establishment of the Jedi Order. ⁓ Because there's also really cool Sith stuff in there too, bro. There's the Mandalorian Wars and all that kind of stuff. Like there's all kinds of s- Nolan: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. It did. Yeah. Jesus: neat little tidbits that you can get into and has nothing to do with the skywalkers and anything else like that but it keeps things at the core about being jedi vs sith and you can incorporate everything else into it as well. Mandalorians, smugglers, thieves, whatever you like but like that's the world we could go and get into Dave Filoni like let's be real and technically like you're off to a good start right now but the thing you put out was Maul and we know you're good at animation so like I said until we get something real live action from Dave Filoni Nolan: Mm-hmm. Jesus: That's really gonna be the parameter, and we'll talk about, let's say we'll talk about Mandalorian and Grogu a little bit later, and that's why we're having this conversation so succinctly about what he's able to do in live action, because that is the break. We know you can do animation. We've seen you do animation. You're fantastic. Live action is what's gonna carry this franchise, and if you can't do something real there, you're about as good as Kathleen Kennedy. We might as well have had another 10 years of her. Straight up. What was the point? What was the point? Nolan: That's where we're at. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Preach, sister. That being said, the world is your oyster and we have put all of our faith and midichlorians into you. So please don't let us down Dave. Jesus: medichlorians into you. Damn. What? Chris Brown? Nolan: Let's take a look really quick at the Rotten Tomatoes for Mandalorian and Grogu, because that is releasing. We all at it. It's not looking great. really. ⁓ Share this tab. Here we go. The audience is not too shabby. I'll give it that. ⁓ From the tomato meter, it was in the 50s, I think, a day ago. So I'm excited to hear that. Jesus: Yeah, not looking great. Not looking great, Nolan. Not looking great. Tell you that. Critic and audience. It's not too bad, but like, Critic is rough. 63 ain't what they want. going up. Nolan: Let's read some reviews. As it's returned to the IMAX, mean silver screen, the saga could do worse than this movie. With their main guy's face behind metal, that's a more than respectable showing. Sarah Michelle Fetters. Jesus: Let's do it. Yeah Nolan: I do think kids will enjoy themselves and maybe that's enough to give this middling adventure a pass. Even so, the Force is not with the Mandalorian and Grogu. In fact, I seriously doubt this is the Star Wars adventure most are looking for. Move along. ⁓ my gosh. ⁓ That sounds rough. Okay, ⁓ let's review some more. Jesus: DHAHAHA That is... I'm gonna pull up the same screen in case I find one that's too funny. Nolan: critics, I didn't mind it. didn't hate it. I liked bites of it. Okay, so there's there's things to get you by. For those. But for those able to toss aside unreasonable expectations and trendy disillusionment. Jesus: You Nolan: Favreau and company have delivered a rip-roaring Star Wars adventure reminiscent of the old space serials that inspired George Lucas nearly 50 years ago. Okay, I'll give it that okay The Mandalorian and Grogu is a fun pulpy reminder that Star Wars doesn't need to grow up It just needs to be entertaining Favreau's action-packed love letter delivers exactly the crowd-pleasing adventure fans have been craving Jesus: Okay. Nolan: If it overstays its welcome a bit, and it does, with about three plot points too many, it's still satisfying. Okay, so it sounds like it's a little bit jarbled. A new Star Wars, in quotes, film used to be an event. That was a long time ago in a galaxy far, away. Oh my goodness, okay. Jesus: A helmet, a child, and the galaxy that used to feel infinite now shrunk to the size of a corridor. ⁓ my god. That's brutal. Nolan: ⁓ Joey Marona says it's still Star Wars after all this is because these these Critic reviews are sounding a lot like cards against humanity like pick your ending for it ⁓ Jesus: Josh Davis simply says, this is not the way. And I love that so much. That's real fan right there. Nolan: ⁓ Laura Poitier says, as love letters go, it's illegible in places, but the affection is real. And that counts for something. ⁓ my goodness. ⁓ Blake Howard. Yo, that was yours. Sorry. What else we got here? ⁓ Mike McGranahoff. McGranagahoff. Whatever your name is. For months. Jesus: D-hahahahah Ugh. Nolan: The pre-show at my local AMC has featured a clip of director Jon Favreau saying he wants to make modern audiences feel the same way he felt watching the original Star Wars. If he felt bored and unamused then I guess he met his goal. Jesus: my dear god. Well as you can see ladies and gentlemen, this is what I was alluding to earlier when I was talking about live-action Dave Filoni. ⁓ The second half of the Mandalorian's run on Disney Plus was not the most well received from all of us, so let's be honest. ⁓ The Book of Boba Fett. Not entirely great reviewed. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Jesus: And that was kind of something Dave had his hands in a bit because it did incorporate basically that was Mandalorian season 2.5 by the end of it ⁓ And now here we are big live-action debut for Dave Filoni as his new role as the overseer of Lucasfilm Disney Star Wars, whatever and Mixed bag not bad not great not what we were wanting for Nolan: Yeah. Jesus: Star Wars returning to the silver screen for a new project, right? And it doesn't lend well to the Starfighter movie that we have coming up with Ryan Gosling. ⁓ This is the concern. Anything animation related, I'm gonna tell you right now is an automatic W. Just mark it down, it's gonna be great. So if you hear about animation projects, it's over, it's over. Now granted, Nolan and I have not seen the film, so we cannot give it a full on review. I'm not going to let these people dictate how I go into that movie in any way, shape or form. I have my own concerns. But that being said, it's not great when Star Wars is you know, return to the screen after the end of that last trilogy is coming out at best Lukewarm with a 63, right, and an 88. You wanna be seeing crazy numbers, bro. You wanna see that up in the 80s opening weekend, right? So it's somewhere in there. Nolan: Mm-hmm. I this is very core to what we're, a good median of what the comments have been so far. It's like a theme park ride. There's a minimal story to provide context, but the real focus is the carefree fun or the roller coaster experience. So if you're going into this movie thinking that you're going to get Star Wars lore and like depth. You're not gonna find it. Yeah, you're not gonna find it. But if you're looking to have some, some just fun action here and there with a adorable little baby Yoda running around ⁓ Pedro Pascal's face, cause they had to it in there somewhere for this big screen moment. ⁓ That's what you're probably going to get. You're, you're Jesus: and cinema. It's not gonna happen. Nolan: You're going to have some action fun, but nothing to write home about, nothing to reinvigorate the Star Wars fans or universe. And I think that's that's actually disappointing. So we'll see. I know you said you got your tickets with your boys. Jesus: I'm gonna be seeing it at some point ⁓ this weekend. I think if this movie comes out after season two, everyone's still loving it. Let ask you this, would we be looking at this film a little differently if this was the entry point movie into creating the Mandalorian show? Jesus: Right? Like. I so. think if this comes out first, right? You introduce the mystery of Grogu in this movie and it's a whole different vibe and you set up this, that, and the third and then we go dive into the TV show and we get more of that kind of interaction. I think, yeah, I think it's a freaking banger opening movie. I'll have to see it to confirm that thought and idea, but I do think maybe going movie first into a show is usually a better route, in my humble opinion, ⁓ versus trying to go... TV route into movie. there's, again, this is one of those things that's like, know, our boy John Campy always says, why am gonna go see this movie when I can go watch Mandalorian for free? Jesus: You can't just like go episode for episode, frame for frame with the Netflix stuff, because you're gonna have to chunk it down into these eight episodes. I think it's eight episodes per season for this show, if I'm not mistaken. ⁓ Or 10. But either way, 30 episodes is not, you know what I mean? Like 30 animation episodes, 10 episodes. You can't just do 30 episodes of live action stuff with all these VFX and stuff, because that show would be like a billion dollars to produce. And it's just not realistic, so shut up. But if you just are an enjoyer of the Avatar property, like myself, you're gonna enjoy the show, and I'm so excited for season two because I think Aang in this particular part of the story really does grow a lot. Are there some CGI kind of funkiness? Yeah sure, but that's neither here nor there. ⁓ What I am worried about is the dialogue, the writing, and the plot. Jesus: Sure. GERATINI Nolan: it looks like the fighting the action sequences are going to be bangers but it potentially could be you know just a dud when it comes to depth they had in this final trailer they did have this kind of moment where they were naming the the characters who were going to fight alongside him and it just seemed so cheesy it didn't it didn't yeah like put your neck away like what i was like like it just didn't it didn't hit the way i and that's what i'm worried about because i think Jesus: I'm just kidding, not this priority. Nolan: We get to see more action, get to see him transform into He-Man, we to see him fighting Skeletor, we get a little more background of like where he came from. We get to see Marina Baccarin as his mother, that's dope. it has a lot going for it, but it also has a steep drop off if it doesn't hit. But Jay, then what'd think of this trailer? Jesus: Yeah. Yeah it is. outside of his mother's casting, which is a fantastic choice, by the way. ⁓ This is looking like a Yikers. I'm gonna watch it, because I like, you know, I'm a nerd, right? So for research purposes, I'll have to go see it. ⁓ But like, as far as this like being a movie that I think everybody that's casual or big fans is just gonna latch onto and love, I don't know. It might be one of those things where critically it's gonna have a 20. audience will have like a 95 right like I think that it might be one of those movies right because if you love He-Man back in the day you're an adult you're in it you're a very elderly person Nolan: Yeah. If you loved He-Man back in the day, your kids might be getting ready for college. you know... Jesus: That's what I'm saying. So like, I don't know who this was made for, but like, if they can bridge the gap and be like, He-Man's cool or whatever, go for it. But yeah, franchise-wise, I don't really know what to make of it. I don't know what to gather, really, on this one. This is a weird one for me. I think I definitely wanna go see it and give it a shot. I can definitely take my dad to go see it, because he was a He-Man guy. I liked the... the Wildcat ones more, the Thundercats, sorry, I Thundercats more. Yeah. But during that same kind of era of television and stuff. So, that's where I'm at with it. I think, like I said, it's one those movies that could be a sleeper hit. I don't know that it's gonna make its money back, because this is probably one of those 500-ish, 450 million dollar productions with all the CGI and stuff that got going on. So. Nolan: Thundercats. Yeah. Jesus: We'll see, we'll see, man. Maybe it has legs, maybe it doesn't, but I think if it does, it's gonna have to be one of those things where it's because all the old people that were fans of it take people with them that are younger and maybe that will give it legs to go further, but I don't really see that happening 100 % with this particular property. Nolan: and then they go and did Mortal Kombat 2 which is a step up in both realms of the critics and the fans. You are going to have the chance to watch it in two different ways if you decide to in the authentic black and white and the true color ⁓ version, I guess is the best way. But this looks fun. This looks, this looks like just an escape from Jesus: Five days from this recording right now. Nolan: from the true Spider-Man universe, giving it its own little twist, having a backstory of him kind of being a PI and then not really wanting to return to being Spider-Man because that's in his past, but then he kind of gets dragged back in. Yeah, exactly. And he gets dragged back into it. The trailer was very, very determined in how it kind of presented that. And I thought that was really cool about it. ⁓ that was really fun. ⁓ Jesus: It's like an old man Spider-Man story. It's cool. Nolan: Jaylen, any specifics from the trailer that you saw? We see a little bit of Sandman. I'm a little confused as to the bigger gentleman of what... Jesus: Yeah, his villains are gonna be kinda weird, more, it's almost like thinking about adapting Batman villains into the Reeves' verse. That's kinda what you have to do with Spider-Man Noir. So you saw a lizard, you saw a Sandman. I don't know if they're gonna do a goblin in this one. I think the Noir goblin is kinda cool, but Electro is also very cool. ⁓ So I was entertained by it. I'm looking forward to watching this for real. I'm so excited to be able to hit that with my buddy. Nolan: I think I heard they were going to do an electro. Jesus: Billke is a big, Spider-Man guy. Jesus: connection. mean, it's giving you more, obviously, like you said, we do actually get to see him use the ring in the trailer, which is great. And you get a little bit more of dynamic between John and Hal, right, in that kind of dynamic buddy cop stuff, right? A little bit more of that. It seems way less True Detective than the previous trailer, which is good ⁓ to me. But, overall? Nolan: Buddy Cat. Mm-hmm. Jesus: I'm to just watch the show. I'm still not entirely sold on it. I think there's gonna be a lot of problems, but it is cool that at least they're trying to connect the universe in some kind of way. That's all I got. yeah, we'll see. Jesus: You know would sell me on this is that they somehow work into a storyline where this actor gets to play John Stewart in a meaningful live-action film, but we also get to explore the purple lanterns because that run is sick. Nolan: I have no idea about the purple lanterns, but I trust your judgement because you are a comic book connoisseur. Jesus: Big trust, that would be fire. I'm a big Captain America fan, think, as far as Chris Evans goes, kind of seeing the alternate take, basically, with Vought rising and the boys and having that character be something that exists, I think is also funny and fun. ⁓ And it should be a nice little tide over, you know what saying? I was much more excited about this show before the final half of this Boys Season 5. Like she just, it was a weird little send off for her. ⁓ And then of course we kinda get into everything where. Now that they have the plan they're gonna go to the White House Homelander is doing his State of the Union kind of thing recording talking about how he is God And of course they crash the party ⁓ Not before you know Homelander completely tells off the deep which is hilarious ⁓ I thought that was a really funny thing because you know he is a little bitch and he Jesus: and he takes the Elon Musk guy to space. That was pretty lit. I'm not gonna lie. Nolan: ⁓ yeah, he's just like, he's an amateur astronaut, right? ⁓ We the fight going on. ⁓ This is the first part that I'm just like, what the fuck are doing? What are we doing? ⁓ First of all, Starlight decides I'm gonna take on the deep. Fantastic. Full circle moment. Nolan: My thought process for this is Starlight can fly, she carries him off ⁓ to take him to battle away from the other group so that he doesn't interfere, and her thought process is I'm gonna fight him on the beach near water when she doesn't know that the sea hates him right now. She does not know that the sea hates Kevin. ⁓ And she thinks, yeah, let me just dive us down onto the beach sand and fight this guy who is the king of the seas next to the sea. ⁓ Jalen, do you agree with that sentiment? Like, if she makes that mistake, like, can we not give the Deep a little bit of an aura farm there and, have him do some, like, Aquaman shit? Nolan: Also, he can't swim fast? Like, what? Also, the nerfing of Starlight is still. How do we go from season two Starlight where she's throwing hands with Stormbringer or whatever the fuck her name was to this version of Annie? Like what the hell happened? ⁓ It just makes no sense. Fucking nothing, Gen V was literally just a waste of time, genuinely, because nothing paid off, none of it mattered, all the lore hype up that we had with her being connected to ⁓ Homelander's original project and her possibly being the cure or the solution to killing Homelander and being used by Butcher at the end, nothing. It's all fucking nothing. What the fuck did I watch that show for? for this, like that makes no sense to me. Why did you even connect it at all? So that was really frustrating to watch. The Ryan stuff, whatever man, I don't really care about Ryan anymore. I stopped caring after season three, you know what I mean? Like whenever Becca died, that's kinda when Ryan's storyline peaked. Like that was really it. Because you have two choices there. Nolan: Yeah. You know, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, when he kind of became like, is he an a-hole? Is he going to become normal? Now he's just an a-hole with no path and it just doesn't feel good. It doesn't feel good. But Jesus: Right. Right, like what the fuck? And so then like also randomly Mother's Milk's just gonna adopt him at the end of the fucking show, like that's gonna solve all of his problems, like what are we doing, bro? How does that make sense? Nolan: Yeah, yeah. But yeah, he's like, I don't he's like, I don't want to go with you, but you're not a good person. But the person who's been by your side for five seasons and even before that, I'm going to go live with him. Like, what? Like, what is going on? ⁓ But before we get to that part, let the battle the battle between Butcher and Homelander, ⁓ they're going into it. Ryan comes to like secure Jesus: ⁓ Thank you, dude. That is some kid logic right there. That is some serious kid logic. sure Nolan: Homelander from getting away because it makes sense right someone who can fly He's the one that's gonna be able to drag him back down to the ground all right I get it ⁓ Kimiko is dealing with her stuff. She has a little vision of Frenchie ⁓ Monk her Rage has never been your best biggest weapon. It's like ⁓ you're right. It has it ⁓ Yeah, exactly ⁓ and then Jesus: Yeah, step up a little bit. But it's cute. That was cute. I'm gonna lie. was alright. Monk-u. It's like, OK. It like I am Iron Man kind of thing. Here we go. All right, let's do it. Nolan: She, they hold him down and she rips off the chest blast. All three of them go shooting in three different directions, but she's the first one to wake up. ⁓ I loved the display of lack of powers from Homelander, ⁓ where he tried to fly and his like stupid little, it was hilarious. That was great. ⁓ And then they show that clearly Homelander has no fighting capabilities other than what he had as a soup. And Butcher completely just bashes on his face, because Butcher actually knows how to fist fight. And then we get the whiny baby Homelander, which I thought was actually on point for how he would probably be acting now that he's powerless and doesn't have that little back card in his back pocket. ⁓ I do, I ⁓ do, man, I'll eat your shit. Jesus: That part was funny. There was things in here that are still the boys and that worked. It was a bunch of dudes with a plan that goes kind of wrong, but they figure it out anyway and they get the plan to work. That's peak boys stuff. But it's the lack of attention and detail to what the fuck we've been doing for five seasons, Talk about not sticking the landing. The only thing that technically happened that was supposed to kinda happen was that, yeah, Butcher finally got fucking Homelander, okay? Nolan: Yes. Yes. Yes. Yeah. Yeah, he's like, this is for Frenchie, this is for my Becker. Jesus: Okay, but like, right. And that was satisfying. That was a cool moment. Like that was cool. And then of course, one more thing to push Butcher over the edge is just like, Ryan doesn't want to be anywhere near him, obviously. And then for whatever reason, we're killing the dog. Why we gotta kill the dog? Nolan: Terror dies? Yeah, yeah sure, he goes peacefully in his sleep, but that's not the point. Jesus: Why, that's not the point, why are we killed? The man has nothing left, like good God. ⁓ So then it leads down to like the real ending of the show, which is what it really was always gonna come down to, and what was the showdown between Butcher and Huey. Nolan: Okay, I'll also say this I'll say this yeah butcher and here fight I thought it would have been much more Revealing and truthful if That whole situation happens, you know, they're trying to fight each other Butcher has that kind of revelation section Huey shoots him as he's bleeding out and just talking like giving his his his peace statements to Huey if he had actually just pulled out the virus and said, as like a show, like I didn't actually do it. Like I wanted you to come here and be the person to to like take me out. Like, you know, I think that would have sent a bigger message than, yeah, I'm going to kill all the soups, but yeah, stop me. Blah, blah, blah. Like I think that would have been like a much more heartfelt moment. ⁓ much more earned I guess you could say for I guess you could say like his ending point as Butcher because you know I mean of course Butcher had to be offed I guess it made sense I guess yeah Jesus: Yeah. I guess, whatever dude. It just felt like a bunch of things to make it a happy, sappy ending, which I just don't feel like that's how this show and its reputation and what we've seen, that's not the ending that probably should have happened. Something harder hitting should have happened and we should be a little bit upset that it wasn't a happy ending. Because that's never what The Boys has been, you know what mean? Nolan: Also, Yeah, yeah, but I was also gonna say like yeah, and then they did a little funeral burial scene at the end and like Ryan's like there Yeah, I'm glad he's buried next to my mother. was like bitch You're the reason why he got sent on this terror train like what? Jesus: Bitch, you was, yeah. No, fuck, you rejected him as a kid, as your father, or not set, pseudo father, right? Like, you're the one who sent him down the tirade. If you'd have just hung out with him, maybe he's not dead right now. Like, fuck you, Ryan. Nolan: Yeah. Maybe be like, I gotta go do my own thing, but I'd love to hang out with you every now and then, stepdad? God. Yeah, yeah. And then, know, goes, Kimiko, I think that was a fair way for her to end, just bye, and she goes off and does her own thing, because that's who Kimiko is. She's kind of, and then Mother's Milk. Yeah. And then she goes to Paris, fantastic, makes sense. ⁓ Jesus: You know what mean? Like, fuck that kid, you know? Little bit. Yep. Only character that made sense with her ending. That's the only character that had an ending that made sense. Nolan: Mother's Milk adopts Ryan. Cool, okay, whatever. I guess that makes sense. Reverse blindside kind of thing. don't know. Yeah, yeah, cool. He's probably gonna date your daughter. That's what it's gonna look like. This is the final nail in the coffin of the shitty ending that was the boys' series finale. Jesus: I guess. We're just gonna throw it in there. Yeah, sure. Mike. Nolan: Starts own business electronics because he's a nerd I get it fantastic awesome him and Annie are pregnant They're gonna have a kid fantastic, but you're naming your daughter Robin What Like okay, there's two ways look Jesus: Listen, you and I both have significant others right now, right? Jesus: Okay. Okay. Insane scenes. Nolan: I think you guys can tell that this was not the ending that we wanted and I think the writing was kind of on the wall with where we saw this season going. It started strong and then it it kind of tailed off into madness of some things were clearly not going to be resolved, some things were not going to be the happy ending but not because it was meant to be an unhappy ending but because it just wasn't an earned ending like unhappy as a fan. Yeah I don't know what happened I don't know Jesus: Because the writers just fell apart. They fell apart on us. They gave us four great seasons of content and then just fell apart. Nolan: You had two years to write this and this is what you gave us. I just I am a nobody sitting in an office chair talking on a podcast with maybe some odd handful of viewers weekly. But it's because we're it's something we're passionate about. And when you give us something that we're passionate about that we don't like, it hurts. It hurts a lot. ⁓ Unresolved Gen V characters. Jesus: Crazy. Nolan: Weird ending for Annie and Huey, weird ending for Butcher and Ryan, weird ending for Butcher. Homelander, great ending for that, fantastic. ⁓ Everything else was just like, what? What are we doing? ⁓ But I digress. It is over. There's not much more we can say about it after that. And that is why I am a little less excited about Vought Rising. Jesus: That's what I'm most upset about. I'm gonna be honest. I'm more upset about that. GG's. over. Nolan: and that's where we that's where we are that's where we are i am but but if it tells you anything what where is Vaught Rising leading to like what we know where it leads to chronologically but what is this leading to because the boys is ending Gen V is done yeah yeah yeah Jesus: I'm holding out hope for Bot Rising. It's a different thing, you know? True. Yeah. That cancelled, Just straight up cancelled. It was in production and just got cancelled. So. Nolan: Maybe the studio was like, so you're not going to use Marie in the final season of The Boys? Well, canceled.
