Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Hey, let's do a postgame show presented by MLB nine
- 0:07Speaker 1: Innings twenty twenty five Scotty Brown, A. J. Perzinski, Eric Kratz,
- 0:11Speaker 1: and we're recapping the Cubs and the Padres. Cubs with
- 0:15Speaker 1: a three to one win over San Diego. Pitching showed
- 0:18Speaker 1: up for the Cubbies.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Hitting didn't that first and third, one out runner on third,
- 0:23Speaker 2: no outs didn't get him. Man, it was It was
- 0:26Speaker 2: as good of pitching as it was. It was also
- 0:28Speaker 2: bad offense by the Potters. They had chances. All they
- 0:30Speaker 2: had to do, which a couple of times, I know
- 0:31Speaker 2: Dansby made a couple of nice plays on O'Hearn twice.
- 0:34Speaker 2: They had a couple of chances where they could have
- 0:36Speaker 2: made this game two or three to nothing, and they
- 0:38Speaker 2: did it. And then playoff games those come back and
- 0:40Speaker 2: bite you. That's why contact and in productive outs is
- 0:43Speaker 2: such a big deal.
- 0:44Speaker 3: And the game was decided.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Kratz with the back to back home runs for Sale
- 0:48Speaker 1: Zuzuki and Carson Kelly off of Nick Povetta, that's all they.
- 0:51Speaker 4: Needed, that's all they got. He wasn't he wasn't allowing much.
- 0:55Speaker 4: And then then when that happened, it was like right
- 0:58Speaker 4: before the chefs really started to take effect and cliped them.
- 1:03Speaker 4: I didn't thinknybody's gonna clip them out to the left,
- 1:05Speaker 4: and Saya's was through the win, so I was like, oh,
- 1:08Speaker 4: that's good, No way, Carson Kelly is carried out, and man,
- 1:13Speaker 4: this is I guess this is the difference between homers.
- 1:16Speaker 4: They didn't really produce many base runners. Padres don't hit
- 1:19Speaker 4: a ton of homers. But when you got guys on base,
- 1:21Speaker 4: like AJ said, to score them, you gotta get them in.
- 1:24Speaker 4: And they didn't today in the Cubs. Cubs took advantage
- 1:28Speaker 4: of a low scoring game.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Mm hmm, Hey, this is why power matters in games
- 1:33Speaker 1: like this.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Yes, agreed, but again, this is what How did the
- 1:36Speaker 2: Cubs get their third run? Yep, sack fly, yep, right,
- 1:41Speaker 2: Dansby Swanson. I know made a couple of nice plays
- 1:43Speaker 2: on Nick O'Hearn, but you gotta have productive outs in
- 1:45Speaker 2: the postseason. Run around thre We'll go back to the
- 1:47Speaker 2: first game. Batch you up Bunnett for the first time
- 1:50Speaker 2: his life, then a wild pitch and then they get
- 1:52Speaker 2: the run in. But the first game, the Guardians Tigers game,
- 1:56Speaker 2: run around third, nobody out in the ninth inning, they
- 1:58Speaker 2: can't get him in.
- 2:00Speaker 3: We're gonna get to that. We're going to recap that game.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Deductive outs matter in the postseason. You have to have
- 2:04Speaker 2: guys again, give you productive outs.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Nick Pavetta was mostly high fastball first time through the
- 2:12Speaker 1: lineup looked ridiculous lineup adjusted second time through.
- 2:15Speaker 3: I mean, he was almost all heaters.
- 2:17Speaker 1: He was eighty something percent heaters, and one of them
- 2:20Speaker 1: was a miss right. I mean you would call the
- 2:22Speaker 1: zuki pitch middle in bad.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Pitch traveler, where it starts away and travels back to
- 2:27Speaker 2: the Internet's where you cannot throw right. You cannot throw
- 2:31Speaker 2: him in at all, because that is the ball he mashes.
- 2:33Speaker 1: And he had a home run in each of the
- 2:37Speaker 1: four games, and the regular season.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Three or four.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Now it's five in a row for including the playoffs. Yeah,
- 2:43Speaker 1: and then Carson Kelly's had a really nice year. He
- 2:45Speaker 1: started out smoking hot, cooled off a little, but still
- 2:48Speaker 1: a way above average offensive performer for the Cubs this year.
- 2:51Speaker 3: That seemed like a decent pitch.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I mean, first time through the lineup that pitch was
- 2:55Speaker 1: working for, Pavetta was a little above the zone ninety
- 2:58Speaker 1: five heat.
- 2:58Speaker 3: I mean, that's his good stuff.
- 3:00Speaker 2: I mean, that's the one, that's the one you know
- 3:02Speaker 2: how to tip your capture the hitter, right, Kratzy. But
- 3:04Speaker 2: the one to Suzuki was a mistake. I mean, that's it, Nate.
- 3:07Speaker 2: But again, the Padres didn't do anything offensively. If you
- 3:10Speaker 2: give up two home solo home runs in a playoff game,
- 3:13Speaker 2: it's tough to swallow. I mean it's the same as
- 3:15Speaker 2: the same as the other game. You give up two
- 3:16Speaker 2: runs and you lose. And I know they got to three,
- 3:19Speaker 2: but gosh, that's that's a tough way to go.
- 3:22Speaker 4: I know we're talking about Pavetta's outing and Carson Kelly's
- 3:25Speaker 4: homer was I mean just he clipped it. He did
- 3:28Speaker 4: a good job of just being short to it and
- 3:30Speaker 4: carried out. I didn't think balls like that would carry out.
- 3:33Speaker 4: But what AJ's talking about the Padres, Like, we go
- 3:36Speaker 4: into it, we say the Padres don't hit home runs.
- 3:38Speaker 4: And I said this before, I'll just reiterate it. So
- 3:41Speaker 4: when you have guys on base, you have to figure
- 3:44Speaker 4: out how to get them in. That's the the counterpoint
- 3:47Speaker 4: to everybody saying, well you don't have to hit home
- 3:51Speaker 4: runs you can produce, then you have to get the hit,
- 3:54Speaker 4: and it is so hard to get the hit against
- 3:57Speaker 4: the pitchers that teams are thrown out there helps. Bullpen
- 4:01Speaker 4: wasn't that great this year. They were really good early
- 4:04Speaker 4: a lot of strikeouts, and then as the season went
- 4:07Speaker 4: on dealt with injury, Palencia was down. They came in
- 4:11Speaker 4: and absolutely shut these guys down. I know the Shadows
- 4:15Speaker 4: got bad, but this is why the home run plays
- 4:19Speaker 4: in the playoffs. And we'll keep saying that unless it doesn't.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Let's give him.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Love to Matthew boy too. He pitched really well, Jams.
- 4:30Speaker 4: I mean, boy pitch great. But right here, what what
- 4:33Speaker 4: Justin Belasco says, Padres are swinging at any pitch.
- 4:36Speaker 2: He did swing out of his own a lot. They
- 4:38Speaker 2: chased a lot of pitches and dancing made two great plays.
- 4:41Speaker 2: But wow, I mean the Padres offense was that's That's
- 4:46Speaker 2: was their question mark coming in. Could they score enough?
- 4:48Speaker 2: We know their pitching is great, and did they could
- 4:50Speaker 2: they have a lead after five innings And in the
- 4:52Speaker 2: bottom of the fifth is when they gave up the
- 4:53Speaker 2: two runs and they didn't have a lead, and then
- 4:55Speaker 2: they deployed their bullpen, and I mean, if you saw
- 4:58Speaker 2: Mason Miller pitch. Holy crap. I don't know how you
- 5:00Speaker 2: hit that stuff.
- 5:01Speaker 1: You don't, But like you said, it doesn't matter if
- 5:04Speaker 1: you don't have offense. But yeah, he was absurd.
- 5:07Speaker 2: That was his first three three, I mean the slider
- 5:11Speaker 2: to back it.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Up his first playout.
- 5:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I was just gonna say about Shilt, Shilt versus Council.
- 5:19Speaker 4: Council I thought went to went to his bullpen too early. Clearly,
- 5:24Speaker 4: not Shilt. I thought did a great job sticking with Paveta.
- 5:29Speaker 4: Had he gone to his bullpen? Is it different because
- 5:33Speaker 4: those dudes coming out of that pen. I get it.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Morey Home gave up some but and uh, I'm blanking
- 5:40Speaker 4: on who Strata give up? E Strata gave up a run?
- 5:44Speaker 4: I get it, And I know it all has to
- 5:46Speaker 4: line up. But these are the questions that we're going
- 5:48Speaker 4: to keep asking the rest of the postseason. When you
- 5:52Speaker 4: have a bullpen like the Padres and now they're one
- 5:55Speaker 4: game away from being done. That's what's so crazy about
- 5:58Speaker 4: these wild card series.
- 5:59Speaker 1: It is good point the Padres have the most talented
- 6:02Speaker 1: bullpen in baseball. Fair Yeah, but they got to have
- 6:04Speaker 1: a lead, right, But they did, They did have a lead.
- 6:08Speaker 2: But it was the fifth inning. He's not taking He's
- 6:10Speaker 2: not taking Nick Covetta out on the fifth inning.
- 6:12Speaker 3: See it all the time.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Maybe I had Jason Adams still, maybe he was dealing.
- 6:16Speaker 2: They weren't even touching him. He was carving up, he
- 6:20Speaker 2: was carving. There's nobody on the I'm sorry, there's nobody
- 6:25Speaker 2: on earth that would say they should have taken Nick
- 6:27Speaker 2: Covett out. Yeah, because he gave up two homers. There's
- 6:29Speaker 2: nobody on this earth. I mean, of course there'd be
- 6:32Speaker 2: somebody in the chat. You know I would have, But
- 6:35Speaker 2: I mean serious, people got to understand baseball or watching
- 6:37Speaker 2: this game, are like, all right, if he gets us
- 6:39Speaker 2: through the fifth, which he didn't with the lead, then
- 6:42Speaker 2: we started deploying more at home and Mason Miller and
- 6:45Speaker 2: Estrawa and Suarez, and we try to wipe him out.
- 6:47Speaker 2: We win one nothing, But he didn't get through the fifth.
- 6:49Speaker 2: I said, they got to get through the fifth with
- 6:51Speaker 2: the lead. Even if they had Jason Adam, I don't
- 6:54Speaker 2: think they're bringing him into the fifth. Nick Povetta was dealing,
- 6:57Speaker 2: and Nick Povett has been so good. Nick Pavetta still
- 6:59Speaker 2: pitched really good in this game.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Dude, I'm not going to win the World Series if
- 7:03Speaker 1: you don't score runs. They put up a one, they
- 7:05Speaker 1: put up a one. Prats, You're not going to make
- 7:08Speaker 1: it through October with low scoring wins.
- 7:10Speaker 3: You know you got to score.
- 7:11Speaker 1: And this team ranked eighteenth and run scored this year
- 7:15Speaker 1: nineteenth or No. Eighteenth and run scored against left handed pitching,
- 7:19Speaker 1: nineteenth in ops against left handed pitching overall this year
- 7:23Speaker 1: in terms of home runs, they were bottom three in baseball,
- 7:27Speaker 1: bottom three in baseball in runs. That's just not going
- 7:30Speaker 1: to get it done. They were below half. So what
- 7:34Speaker 1: were they thirteenth? Worst in runs scored in baseball. It
- 7:38Speaker 1: hasn't been a great offense, especially on the road.
- 7:41Speaker 2: And today only one guy showed up Xander. Yeah, Tatiza
- 7:45Speaker 2: had no hits, but many had no hits. I mean
- 7:47Speaker 2: Jackson Merrill got the one blue pit right, but other
- 7:50Speaker 2: than that, there was no offense. Arise didn't get any
- 7:52Speaker 2: did get a hit, No, he didn't get a hit either.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Sheets I didn't got a hit right, struck out.
- 7:58Speaker 2: That's going missed two pitches in a row.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Never see that.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Uh? I mean, here here's the thing. Look at the
- 8:05Speaker 2: look at the potters offense Tatis over four, Arise over four,
- 8:08Speaker 2: Machado over three, Merril had the blue pit Ogert had
- 8:11Speaker 2: two hits. Oh hearn over three, got robbed twice, sheets
- 8:14Speaker 2: over three, Corona Worth over three and for me and
- 8:16Speaker 2: won for three. They had four hits. That's it.
- 8:21Speaker 3: They got beat games.
- 8:22Speaker 2: It's the same as the other game, the Guardians game.
- 8:24Speaker 2: You don't win playoff games with four hits and non
- 8:26Speaker 2: productive outs.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Crats. They got beat.
- 8:28Speaker 1: They got beat by a team that was thrown out,
- 8:31Speaker 1: boyd and they're gonna throw out their couple lefties here
- 8:33Speaker 1: against the Padres with good reason.
- 8:35Speaker 3: It's funny.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Cad Horton's hurt. I don't know if we'll see him
- 8:39Speaker 1: at all in the playoffs because a right rib fracture.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I was looking through averages forty to eighty days.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Out, so that's gonna see.
- 8:46Speaker 3: That's probably not happening for the rookie.
- 8:47Speaker 1: They don't have justin Steel this year, but at least
- 8:51Speaker 1: against the Padres to get past the wild card, which
- 8:53Speaker 1: I think is what Cubs fans need. They need to
- 8:55Speaker 1: see them get to the DS to feel like they
- 8:58Speaker 1: had a successful season.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Left handed pitching is probably going to be the move
- 9:02Speaker 3: here to start games.
- 9:04Speaker 4: Don't tell the padres they gotta face shot at him.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Now, good point there next to your head is a killer.
- 9:15Speaker 4: That's a that definitely is a killer. Would you have
- 9:18Speaker 4: caught that ball that Gavin Sheets, that fell in front
- 9:21Speaker 4: of Gavin Sheets? I think it was Danzy Swanson Like, yeah,
- 9:25Speaker 4: loss of Lariano is a killer, thanks b and Eggs
- 9:29Speaker 4: Like it is. And he was. When we had chilt
- 9:35Speaker 4: On earlier they were talking about Shill was like, I
- 9:38Speaker 4: didn't really know much about this guy's game and he
- 9:41Speaker 4: came over and they started playing him lefties and righties.
- 9:46Speaker 4: That's a huge loss.
- 9:49Speaker 3: I will point something else.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Ryan o'hearan has been great against lefties and she's just
- 9:56Speaker 2: been fine this year against lefties. He's gotten to play
- 9:58Speaker 2: against him. And I know lorianno would have play left
- 10:00Speaker 2: but no one's catching the ball that fell in front
- 10:02Speaker 2: of Sheets. And that didn't change anything in the game.
- 10:05Speaker 3: You know what changed things?
- 10:06Speaker 1: Two times dan Be Swanson made really nice plays with
- 10:09Speaker 1: a runner at third.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Two times. That's a good defense.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Yes, he's a gold Glover for a reason. Yes, that's
- 10:15Speaker 2: why they brought him over here, was to make plays
- 10:17Speaker 2: like this. And be a leader, which he's done. White
- 10:21Speaker 2: guys are good.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Yeah, all around goodwin for Chicago. And also when he.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Hit that, I was like, oh, that's a knocking. It
- 10:28Speaker 2: might be first and third again. I mean that was
- 10:30Speaker 2: a great play. And then the one where he dove
- 10:31Speaker 2: in the hole that had bat before. But again they
- 10:33Speaker 2: had runners on third base with less than two outs
- 10:36Speaker 2: twice and didn't get him any either time.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Did home field advantage mean anything to you? I know
- 10:41Speaker 1: the Cubs won. No, it's not about that in this one.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Nothing.
- 10:44Speaker 1: It's a home field with the shadows, different ball, very
- 10:47Speaker 1: different ballpark from Pac Coo and.
- 10:53Speaker 4: Go was bigger than No. They just they didn't get
- 10:55Speaker 4: any hit. AJ couldn't. Maybe argue with me, but the playoffs,
- 11:02Speaker 4: you don't hear the fans, Sorry, I don't. I don't
- 11:05Speaker 4: see that home field advantage in like the pressure situations.
- 11:11Speaker 4: I don't feel like you're going I just don't think
- 11:15Speaker 4: you it affects how you're playing. Maybe if things start
- 11:19Speaker 4: going bad, maybe like if somebody soft, maybe you just
- 11:25Speaker 4: everything just gets zoned out.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I've said this homefield advantage in baseball doesn't mean
- 11:32Speaker 2: as much as any other sport. It's probably the least. Actually,
- 11:35Speaker 2: I always say I like playing on the road because
- 11:37Speaker 2: if you can jump on a team early, you actually
- 11:39Speaker 2: put the pressure on the home team. Like if the
- 11:42Speaker 2: San Diego could have got up two or three nothing
- 11:44Speaker 2: in this game. Can you imagine all them people out
- 11:46Speaker 2: in there on those bleachers going, oh, we're gonna lose again.
- 11:49Speaker 3: We're clubs.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Well we're back to normal. But they did it and
- 11:53Speaker 2: right so, and then the bullpenk came in for the Cubs.
- 11:55Speaker 2: It was ridiculous, but they foreign third, four and two
- 11:59Speaker 2: thirds nothing.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Nothing.
- 12:00Speaker 2: I don't think they gave up a hit or a
- 12:02Speaker 2: base run.
- 12:03Speaker 3: No.
- 12:03Speaker 1: And Brad Keller was making his postseason debut and he's
- 12:07Speaker 1: not the regular closer for them, and he locked it down.
- 12:10Speaker 2: To get through a cup.
- 12:11Speaker 3: He was money.
- 12:12Speaker 2: He was great. Their whole bullpen was great.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Yea great.
- 12:16Speaker 1: They have a decent sized circle of trust. It's it's
- 12:19Speaker 1: not the world's biggest, sexiest names, right, It's a different
- 12:22Speaker 1: looking bullpen from the Padres. But there's guys that can
- 12:24Speaker 1: pick up out So you give credit. The Cubs put
- 12:27Speaker 1: together a really strong performance in game one. Now in
- 12:29Speaker 1: Game two, we have showed aim and aga against Dylan Cees.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Maybe we'll get a little sprinkling of Michael King. It's
- 12:35Speaker 1: an elimination game. That's the case for all these game twos.
- 12:38Speaker 1: What do we like for Game two? Not saying a prediction,
- 12:42Speaker 1: but what do you think over you think they'll score?
- 12:45Speaker 2: I think there'll be some run score, he says. The
- 12:47Speaker 2: pitch good in the postseason, although he has pitched well
- 12:48Speaker 2: against the Cubs in the past because he wasn't originally
- 12:50Speaker 2: a Cub SHOWDA has him been great. I think they'll
- 12:53Speaker 2: make some adjustments, ends on the Matroit the wins ball,
- 12:55Speaker 2: but I think there'll be more in four run scored.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Crats I picked over in this one did not work
- 13:01Speaker 1: out for me in Game one.
- 13:04Speaker 4: Tough day for you, It's okay. I think I think
- 13:06Speaker 4: it'll be some punchouts. Dylan Cees will punch some dudes out.
- 13:10Speaker 4: It's just a matter of how many how many bats
- 13:12Speaker 4: they actually give him to try to punch dudes out,
- 13:15Speaker 4: How how panicked are they going to be in the
- 13:18Speaker 4: sense of, hey, third inning, he's cruising, they get a
- 13:22Speaker 4: runner on and it's a tie ball zero zero tie
- 13:24Speaker 4: ball game. Are they gonna hook them?
- 13:30Speaker 3: Pres are going to gonna get it?
- 13:33Speaker 2: Depends on how cease goes. But trust me, par Alton
- 13:36Speaker 2: and those guys are being quick. Morris for two innings
- 13:39Speaker 2: if they need them. Seeing a pitch.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Today, super short lease for leash for cease, and one
- 13:46Speaker 1: time through.
- 13:48Speaker 2: If he gets you, if he gets you one time,
- 13:49Speaker 2: depending on how it's going with Yeah, if they have
- 13:51Speaker 2: a lead, they might ride with them, but if they don't,
- 13:54Speaker 2: if they're if it's close, or it might be one
- 13:56Speaker 2: time through and get somebody up.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Yeah, mm hmm. Player of the game.
- 14:03Speaker 2: The Cubs bullpen for me, I mean you can say
- 14:06Speaker 2: there's not really an offensive start because if you give it,
- 14:08Speaker 2: you can't give it a say and you can't give
- 14:09Speaker 2: it to Carson Kelly. To me, it's either Dansby Swanson
- 14:12Speaker 2: who scored the third run and made the two plays,
- 14:14Speaker 2: or it's the Cubs bulpen.
- 14:18Speaker 4: I'll just say Dansby. Anytime your shortstop makes two big
- 14:21Speaker 4: plays with runners and scoring position, that's huge.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Mm hmm. There's a run prevention day, all right.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Since we'll pick one individual, the team behind the scenes
- 14:31Speaker 1: is given it to Dansby anyways, just on the show.
- 14:35Speaker 1: MLB nine Innings MVP of Game one for the Cubbies
- 14:40Speaker 1: is Dansby Sponson, So congrats to the Cubs. They take
- 14:43Speaker 1: game one, three to one year final score. We'll talk
- 14:46Speaker 1: more about this series, of course on foul Territory. We're
- 14:48Speaker 1: live every day one o'clock Eastern on YouTube. And now
- 14:53Speaker 1: let us talk about the Tigers and the Guardians. Here
- 14:58Speaker 1: we go again, another matchup between these teams. Another Trek
- 15:02Speaker 1: Scoogle Gavin Williams matchup and Scoogle gets the advantage this
- 15:07Speaker 1: time for oh my gosh, a Tiger's team that they
- 15:11Speaker 1: didn't like. Crack the lid open with the offense. There
- 15:15Speaker 1: was a lot of swing and miss errors.
- 15:16Speaker 2: The two errors cost the Guardians in this team, and
- 15:18Speaker 2: they're supposed to be known for their defense. There was
- 15:20Speaker 2: two errors. One in the first inning where the redfielder
- 15:22Speaker 2: booted a single. It allowed Carboner to get to second
- 15:26Speaker 2: and then Torquosen flootered went out there for the first run.
- 15:29Speaker 2: And the second one was the rokio where Big Christmas
- 15:32Speaker 2: didn't really you know, he's an outfielder, but now he's
- 15:34Speaker 2: playing first and he missed the bag off his glove
- 15:37Speaker 2: that whole thing. So yeah, two errors led to both
- 15:40Speaker 2: the runs and honestly, again though productive outs, which is
- 15:44Speaker 2: what the Guardians have had to do is make productive outs.
- 15:48Speaker 2: And then again they had Hose Aramiraz at third base
- 15:50Speaker 2: with no outs in the ninth inning and he didn't score.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Almost all contact from the Guardians was in the infield.
- 15:57Speaker 1: They had one hit that went to the outfield. Yeah,
- 16:00Speaker 1: that's not going to get it done. You can't guards
- 16:01Speaker 1: ball every game. No, they did that a lot recently
- 16:05Speaker 1: Kratz against the Tigers, and they were able to take
- 16:07Speaker 1: down Schooble.
- 16:09Speaker 3: In past games in the last few weeks, but.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Never did we watch and go, oh, man, I think
- 16:13Speaker 1: they've got Scooble figured out.
- 16:16Speaker 3: Not this year.
- 16:19Speaker 4: I mean, I guess last year in Game five they
- 16:21Speaker 4: finally got to him, but he was probably exhausted. I'm
- 16:24Speaker 4: not gonna he didn't say it. I said it. But
- 16:27Speaker 4: this graphic is the best. Like two balls in the outfield,
- 16:33Speaker 4: I mean four balls in the outfield, one hit, like, man, like,
- 16:39Speaker 4: you have to do more. Where did the Guardians offense
- 16:43Speaker 4: or where did their power surge from last year? Go
- 16:46Speaker 4: like it's been gone the whole year. Hey, guys like
- 16:49Speaker 4: Will Brannan hitting double digit home runs and then this
- 16:53Speaker 4: year they just they're Stephen Kwan and Jose Ramirez. I
- 16:58Speaker 4: guess man Man's artist driving some baseballs too. But they
- 17:02Speaker 4: gotta they gotta come out, they gotta come out hot.
- 17:04Speaker 4: They don't have to face scoobal So that's good. That's
- 17:06Speaker 4: good for everybody.
- 17:09Speaker 1: They finished the season on a nineteen and four run
- 17:11Speaker 1: The Tigers finished the season on a three and thirteen dud.
- 17:14Speaker 1: But Cleveland was twenty eighth in run score this year,
- 17:18Speaker 1: twenty ninth and on base percentage.
- 17:20Speaker 3: This is not a good offense. No, it's not.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Schoobl and he faced the ultimate X factor and they school.
- 17:27Speaker 3: They lost by a run.
- 17:28Speaker 1: They lost by a They lost by the kinstry squeeze bunch.
- 17:31Speaker 2: They lost by two bad defensive plays, a bit play clean.
- 17:35Speaker 2: The Tigers don't score against Big rig Gavin Williams either,
- 17:38Speaker 2: so Scooble was impressive. The play he almost made at
- 17:41Speaker 2: home plate when it was over his shoulders and the
- 17:43Speaker 2: runner went from second. I was a sixth player. I
- 17:45Speaker 2: know the guy was safe at home And I don't know,
- 17:47Speaker 2: by the way, if that's not blocking the plate or
- 17:49Speaker 2: not giving you a lane, I don't know what is.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Because he's standing right in front of the plate and
- 17:53Speaker 2: he doesn't have the ball that's supposed to be an
- 17:55Speaker 2: automatic seat.
- 17:56Speaker 3: We're going back to the old rules.
- 17:57Speaker 2: He was safe anyways, But Scooble is the one player
- 18:02Speaker 2: in this playoffs that can change series when he's right,
- 18:04Speaker 2: and today he was right, and the Guardian saw him
- 18:07Speaker 2: for a third time. Gavin Williams was pretty damn good too.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Let's not forget Gavleys pitch. I mean strikeout's total in
- 18:12Speaker 2: this game fourteen.
- 18:14Speaker 3: Yeah, a career high for him.
- 18:16Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know how many they had total,
- 18:17Speaker 2: but that was That was a well pitched game by
- 18:20Speaker 2: both these guys.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Gavin Williams is blossoming into a star second half into
- 18:24Speaker 1: this postseason start, and he's got good stuff.
- 18:26Speaker 3: He's a big dude.
- 18:27Speaker 1: He's got all the tools for a number all of
- 18:30Speaker 1: the pitches, I should say, for a number one starter,
- 18:33Speaker 1: you know, for the Cleveland Guardians going forward here Kratz,
- 18:36Speaker 1: but they consistently haven't done enough to build an offense
- 18:41Speaker 1: that can win a World Series title. I felt the
- 18:43Speaker 1: same way last year. I mean, that was a good team.
- 18:45Speaker 1: The bullpen was stupid, but did we really think that
- 18:50Speaker 1: that team was going to carry itself? To a World
- 18:53Speaker 1: Series title. They would have gotten destroyed in the World Series.
- 19:01Speaker 4: Yeah, they produce historically produced pitching. There's no denying that
- 19:08Speaker 4: they are. They're running out, especially now that they're running
- 19:11Speaker 4: out some guys from their minor leagues that are legit
- 19:16Speaker 4: out of the bullpen.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Before it was all just starters.
- 19:19Speaker 4: I mean it was it was just a cavalcade of
- 19:21Speaker 4: starters coming from their minor league system. So now they
- 19:24Speaker 4: have an entire pitching rotation. But they have to spend
- 19:27Speaker 4: some money or produce some way somebody else in that
- 19:31Speaker 4: lineup that's going to protect Jose Ramirez.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Casey Mayes versus Tanner byby game two, ibe, he's got
- 19:41Speaker 1: to do it.
- 19:42Speaker 2: At twenty eight strikeouts total in this game between the
- 19:44Speaker 2: two teams, fifteen for Cleveland, thirteen for the Tigers. I mean,
- 19:49Speaker 2: Kevin Williams went six innings, five hits. Nowhere runs eight punchies.
- 19:54Speaker 2: What else do you want? One walk? One walk, that's
- 19:57Speaker 2: a key for him because he sometimes can get a
- 19:59Speaker 2: kind of walk. But then you go schooble seven and
- 20:02Speaker 2: two thirds, fourteen punchies and will vest one hit and
- 20:06Speaker 2: one punchy, which is a big punchy too. Because it
- 20:09Speaker 2: came with a runner on third and no outs.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Yeah, that play from bias, you know makes Wait BIA's
- 20:18Speaker 1: got the error there?
- 20:19Speaker 3: Why is that on bounce? Because okay, yeah.
- 20:23Speaker 2: It's a tough error.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Don't most first baseman grab that.
- 20:27Speaker 2: You would hope, but yeah, mistakes happened.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just that it turned into an extra base after.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I mean, Ramirez went from first to third, right, two
- 20:35Speaker 1: extra bases and they had a runner on third with
- 20:38Speaker 1: no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, down
- 20:40Speaker 1: one run.
- 20:41Speaker 3: That's all you can ask for.
- 20:43Speaker 2: But then I didn't love I also didn't love Jay
- 20:45Speaker 2: rams base running when on the second.
- 20:47Speaker 3: Out getting caught, because no matter what happens, at.
- 20:50Speaker 2: The worst, the ball's got to go through because you
- 20:51Speaker 2: need to run around third because you can't have a
- 20:54Speaker 2: runner first because knowing the gardens, it takes two hits
- 20:56Speaker 2: to get them in, so you need David. You're funny.
- 20:59Speaker 2: I don't actually like the Cubs players. Take from that
- 21:03Speaker 2: what you want, David, but you know you can't. He's
- 21:09Speaker 2: got to either stay in or rundown and at least
- 21:11Speaker 2: let who hit that, whoever hit that, get the second Menzarto,
- 21:15Speaker 2: but you can't just get run into the out and
- 21:17Speaker 2: then have the gun first because they're not gonna score
- 21:19Speaker 2: from first. More than likely it's gonna take two hits.
- 21:21Speaker 2: So I don't know. It was just one of those.
- 21:25Speaker 3: It was.
- 21:25Speaker 2: It was one of those weird games for the Guardians.
- 21:27Speaker 2: But this is the way the Guardians have won for
- 21:28Speaker 2: the last two months, and they tried to do it
- 21:30Speaker 2: again against School One. It didn't work this time.
- 21:34Speaker 4: I'm surprised they didn't bunt with jay ram On first,
- 21:39Speaker 4: with Jay ram On third, with third, you know that
- 21:41Speaker 4: he's gonna bunt though. Valera, Yeah, they're not. They're not
- 21:46Speaker 4: butting Manzarto. No, no, no, no, Valeria right out of gate.
- 21:50Speaker 4: I mean, how many Hey, you know what I'm not.
- 21:55Speaker 4: I'm not again. You know I love the bunt. I
- 21:57Speaker 4: love winning more than anything. Like Matt Show in the
- 22:00Speaker 4: Cubs game, he put down his first bunt, the stat
- 22:04Speaker 4: they gave since Maryland, like when he was in college, Like,
- 22:07Speaker 4: it's okay to be able to try to put that down.
- 22:10Speaker 4: I guess their hope was that vest wasn't going to
- 22:15Speaker 4: punch a bunch of dudes out. But if that's the case,
- 22:17Speaker 4: then you don't go on contact there you don't have
- 22:19Speaker 4: the contact play. If you think your guys have a
- 22:21Speaker 4: chance to put two balls in play, then you don't
- 22:24Speaker 4: go and then you don't have your guys going on contact.
- 22:27Speaker 4: But I assume because they're going on contact, they're thinking, Okay,
- 22:30Speaker 4: there's a good chance best gets a punch out here.
- 22:32Speaker 3: So do the Guardians have a chance.
- 22:38Speaker 2: They do, because their pitching is still really good. They do,
- 22:42Speaker 2: and the Tigers can't hit. Neither of them can hit.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Yeah, neither of them can hit. They can pitch, neither
- 22:52Speaker 1: of them can hit.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Actually, I mean this is why they got the Guardians
- 22:55Speaker 2: of the Division championship. But like we said, if you
- 22:58Speaker 2: showed the graft earlier, does it really matter because they're
- 23:00Speaker 2: all starting over and they got to get they had
- 23:02Speaker 2: to get scoobl in the first game, and he went
- 23:03Speaker 2: out and dominated. Now it's Mice. Here's another All Star
- 23:07Speaker 2: against Biby, who's who's pretty good. But but but I
- 23:11Speaker 2: tell you one thing. The Guardians shot a lot of
- 23:13Speaker 2: their bullets from their bullpen, and the Tigers did.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Not go as deep as schoolboy.
- 23:19Speaker 2: No. But if the if the Guardians get into a
- 23:23Speaker 2: situation and they do win this game and they're gonna
- 23:26Speaker 2: have to use Gaddus again. They're probably gonna have use
- 23:27Speaker 2: Subworski again. They use Kate Smith and I don't think
- 23:30Speaker 2: they don't think they used heron or Festa. But they
- 23:33Speaker 2: got to win two more games. So can these guys
- 23:34Speaker 2: do this three days in a row? If it gets
- 23:37Speaker 2: to that's that's where this is where we're using you
- 23:39Speaker 2: know when everyone's like, oh, I take by that out,
- 23:41Speaker 2: But you know, you got to think longer than if
- 23:43Speaker 2: we lose this game. We gotta have two more games,
- 23:45Speaker 2: and we got to win two more games. Not a
- 23:47Speaker 2: lot of guys are used to going three days in
- 23:48Speaker 2: a row. It doesn't happen that much.
- 23:50Speaker 1: And if this game is close, Casey Mice is likely
- 23:54Speaker 1: shoot three to four innings.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Oh he's not going five.
- 23:59Speaker 2: For the jugger. He's going for the kill.
- 24:01Speaker 1: He's gonna take us old school to the Chaos from
- 24:04Speaker 1: last year because he's got it all ready to go
- 24:08Speaker 1: and he likes to play that game.
- 24:10Speaker 4: Do we need to talk more about what Scuba did?
- 24:13Speaker 4: I know we talked about it. He was awesome. It
- 24:15Speaker 4: might be one of his I was just looking back
- 24:16Speaker 4: at some of his other starts in his entire career. Obviously,
- 24:20Speaker 4: it's his career high in strikeouts fourteen. In the last
- 24:23Speaker 4: two years, he's only gone over seven and two thirds
- 24:28Speaker 4: three times. He went eight. He obviously went that nine
- 24:31Speaker 4: earlier in the year against the Guardians, and then he
- 24:34Speaker 4: went eight another time. But besides that, he went seven
- 24:37Speaker 4: and two thirds before. Like, this was this was sheer dominance,
- 24:43Speaker 4: This was sheer. We texted in the groups or I
- 24:45Speaker 4: texted in the group thread like he's saying we're not losing.
- 24:48Speaker 4: He's not allowing his team to lose. And that's what
- 24:52Speaker 4: a true ace, a Cy Young Award winner does.
- 24:56Speaker 1: I think there were some select Guardians fans that needed
- 24:58Speaker 1: to hear that, because when we did our series preview yesterday,
- 25:02Speaker 1: we had some comments dropped that said we were giving
- 25:05Speaker 1: too much love to Scooble and that he was comparable
- 25:09Speaker 1: to Gavin Williams. Gavin Williams is great. He is emerging
- 25:13Speaker 1: to be a front end starter. He is not Trek Scooble.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Trek Scouble is number one or two in the.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Sport or steins right now.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Yes, he is a weapon that is so unique in
- 25:29Speaker 1: the sport.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Right the Tigers have to capitalize while they have them
- 25:31Speaker 2: because they got one more year, and then he goes,
- 25:35Speaker 2: that's right, but they got to capitalize and this year
- 25:37Speaker 2: next year to try to get the thing they haven't
- 25:40Speaker 2: had since nineteen eighty four World Series.
- 25:44Speaker 3: I think that offense is gonna have to wake the
- 25:46Speaker 3: hell up.
- 25:47Speaker 2: I'm just saying. I know, but I'm just saying, and.
- 25:50Speaker 1: It might happen, but that's not what happened today. The
- 25:53Speaker 1: Tigers take down the Guardians in Game one, low scoring
- 25:57Speaker 1: two to one is your final, so were capped it.
- 26:00Speaker 1: And there's more postgame shows that you can check out. Yankees,
