Transcript
- 0:04Good morning, y'all.
- 0:06This is the Daily Ripples, October 8, admitting it quickly.
- 0:10The stone.
- 0:12Humility grows when I admit my mistakes promptly instead of defending them.
- 0:16Ripple one practical.
- 0:19Today, I will not let pride keep me from saying I was wrong.
- 0:23A sincere apology may feel uncomfortable, but it often opens the door to healing and stronger relationships.
- 0:29Honest correction is always better than regret.
- 0:33Ripple 2, spiritual.
- 0:35As I follow Christ's example of humility, the Holy Spirit gives me the courage to admit my failures without fear.
- 0:41The Father uses honest confession to restore relationships and strengthen my character, teaching me that humility always leads to freedom.
- 0:51Wow.
- 0:53This to me is a very tall task.
- 0:56I, uh, have a very hard time saying, I'm sorry.
- 1:01And, uh, for me, I want to get it right the 1st time, so I don't have to say
- 1:06I'm sorry, which goes along with yesterday's ripple of, you know, pausing when agitated.
- 1:13But when I find that I don't pause when I'm agitated and my mouth gets me in trouble.
- 1:18It requires an apology.
- 1:20Um, the thing that stands out to me, though.
- 1:23In the stone.
- 1:25It says, I admit my mistakes promptly, promptly, that word, whew.
- 1:30And promptly, the definition of it is to do something quickly, without delay or exactly at the arranged time.
- 1:41And for me, I want to think about it and justify why I did it, why I said it, why they deserved it, and why I don't owe them an apology.
- 1:51Um, and I will procrastinate and ruminate and and sit around and wait around until The moment has passed.
- 2:00The hours have passed, the day has passed.
- 2:03And I've procrastinated to the point of never doing it.
- 2:07Part of this comes from fear, fear of reprisal, fear of, uh, retribution, fear of being looked at less than, um,
- 2:19Fear of my pride being hurt.
- 2:22Here's that old word fear again.
- 2:25False evidence appearing real.
- 2:27Um, you know, in our big books of alcoholics anonymous on page 59, the 10th step says continue to take personal inventory.
- 2:39And when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.
- 2:42Um, you know, this is one of the steps in our program that takes um, action every day, you know, do an inventory, a self-assessment of the things that have gone on.
- 2:55And that may not wait until the end of the day.
- 2:58You know, I know when I've done something to hurt somebody's feelings or I've said something that may not have been, uh, truthful or nice, and um, and I know when I need to take an action to promptly admit when I'm wrong.
- 3:12Um, you know, for me, it's a prayer to God, uh, how do I do this?
- 3:17Please give me the strength to be able to um, say what I need to say in order to make things better.
- 3:23Um, 9 times out of 10 when I make an apology and I do so promptly, um, it's forgiven and forgotten.
- 3:33And it reminds me of the verse in Proverbs 28.
- 3:38verse 13.
- 3:40It says, he who hides his sin will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.
- 3:49So I look at that as he who covers his sin.
- 3:55will not have inner joy.
- 3:57But he whoever confesses and forsakes the sin, will have admitted, conquitted, and forget it, and move on with life.
- 4:08You know, I'm not responsible for someone else's reaction.
- 4:12I'm responsible for my own actions.
- 4:14So regardless of if that person accepts my apology or not, I've cleaned I've cleaned the slate for myself.
- 4:22Uh, what a free thing to not carry around.
- 4:26Um, hurts that I've caused others.
- 4:31And I have to remind myself when I get into a justifiable, uh, reaction to things, um, where I stand in this world and and what keeps me sober, who I need to rely on and to humbly ask God to help me in these types of situations.
- 4:55And honestly, it really does have to do with fear at the end of the day, false evidence appearing real, as we like to say in AA.
- 5:03Um, Another one of those simple things, but not easy to do, especially when I have felt like a victim for a lot of my life and felt like things have been done wrong to me and I deserve this and I'm justified for that.
- 5:19Um, When I put on that new set of glasses, when I ask God to be a part of my life every day and to direct my thoughts and my actions, It allows me to see a different perspective of it's not all about me.
- 5:34There is no self-pity, self-justification, or self-righteous anger, because it's not about me.
- 5:41It's about others.
- 5:43And it's about working with other people and helping others.
- 5:46With a with a Christ-like love that he showed the world.
- 5:51So today, Father God, give me the humility to admit when I'm wrong.
- 5:57Through your Holy Spirit, help me choose honesty over pride.
- 6:02Shape me through the example of Jesus.
- 6:05Amen.
