- 1:22send, and in this case were the Colonial Radio Theater mysteries and they adapted
- 1:30original stories featuring Father Brown and Perry Mason. The Perry Mason ones are very
- 1:36interesting, I think, particularly because they take a very different approach than the
- 1:42Raymond Burr stories, really faithful to the novels and kind of the more hard
- 1:46boiled spirit of the nineteen thirties. And you can pick out your choice of
- 1:52the first five Perry Mason novels adapted by the Colonial Radio Theater as an audio
- 1:57drama. With any donation of twenty dollars more and at the fifty dollars level,
- 2:01we'll send you three of them. The same thing applies to the Father
- 2:05Brown stores. In addition, at the one hundred dollars level, you can

- 2:28Now it's time to continue on with the Fathom five man Or Part three
- 2:32and Part four from Hollywood. It's time now for Johnny Dillar Bonnie Wilson.
- 2:43Oh morning, mister Wilson, say, on expense of God, don't you
- 2:46that's right? Good? I'm not How about buying me a lunch? You
- 2:49got a deal twelve o'clock here at my hotel's old found any more shoes?
- 2:53No, and nobody's not yet anyway, I'm amazed. It's find one thing
- 2:59you may be interested in. What's that We've got to lead on that license
- 3:01number you gave me last night. You were right. The car was bought
- 3:05from a deal about two weeks ago my home somebody named John Smith on the
- 3:09east out of town. That figures, well, maybe here's something that won't
- 3:13I checked the address this morning. You know what, sure a vagan lot.
- 3:17Well, now, how the devil did you know? See? At
- 3:20lunch mister Wilson's Tonight and every weekday Night Bob Bailey and the Transcribed Adventures of
- 3:31the Man with the Action Packed Expense account America's Fabulous Freelance Insurance Investigators Truley Johnny
- 3:38Dollar Expense accounts submitted by Special Investigator Johnny Dollar, location Miami Beach, Florida
- 3:55to the home office till the liability Hartford, Connecticut assignment the Fathom five matter,
- 4:02a sunkend cruiser that refused to give up its debt. It am ten
- 4:10four dollars and eighty cents. Lunch with DA Deputy Barney Wilson, a man
- 4:14who'd made up his mind about the case before I'd even arrived in town.
- 4:16Murder, He'd called it. When the hired cruiser Fathom five burned and sank
- 4:21mysteriously a mile or two off shore, but nobody had been found yet,
- 4:26and I still doubt it very much in whatever would be, because I wasn't
- 4:29even certain that William Marky was dead. Wilson, of course, had different
- 4:32ideas. Yes, so, mister Dawler, it's the whole old story.
- 4:40Two men go out in the boat and only one comes back, no witnesses,
- 4:43nothing, And if that doesn't indicate murder, I say, past sugar,
- 4:46would you please sure here you're convinced it's murder, and you're convinced young
- 4:53Danny Haynes did it? Well? Who else? Well, that would be
- 4:57a fine argument to advance in court, wouldn't it. Ah, sure,
- 5:00certain conviction simply because you can't produce any other suspect. Well soon, I
- 5:05don't think there's been any murder at all. Now you can pass me the
- 5:09shirt, all right, Suppose you'll let me tell you how I figure it
- 5:13while I'm eating my dessert. Markey and his wife took a liking to this
- 5:16Haines kid and practically made him one of the family. And right there was
- 5:20their mistaken It usually is because Haines started getting ideas about his boss's wife.
- 5:26You have to admit missus Markey's a mighty pretty woman. O good to night.
- 5:29She's Haines's on age and her husband was older. So the kid in
- 5:32that bird brain is figured he had it all tagged, figured she actually went
- 5:36for him. I think he probably started bothering there, making a nuisance out
- 5:41of himself, and I'll lay you odd, she'll admit he did once she's
- 5:45convinced he's guilty. I got a sneaking hunch you may be right on that.
- 5:49Oh, thank you, thank you. So what happened? Marky finally
- 5:54noticed the kid was getting a little out of Lyne. Probably didn't even take
- 5:57it seriously at first, but eventually he must decided he'd better get Haynes straight
- 6:01out, so he took him out on that fishing boat in order to talk
- 6:04to him alone. Is that it not? You're with a dollar? But
- 6:08the thing backfired. Haines probably got mad, maybe started to fight, knock
- 6:13Markey out and let get him his big idea spur of the moment. Huh
- 6:16yes, sir, Now with the boss out of the way, he'd have
- 6:19a clear field with the widow. So you threw Markey overboard, set fire
- 6:24to the cruiser opened the sea cocks so to be sure and sink and then
- 6:28rode away in the dinghy. And how could he be sure the body wouldn't
- 6:30be found washed ashore by the currents Oh, he couldn't be sure. But
- 6:34what if it was there was a heavy fog, nobody saw what happened.
- 6:39He knew it would be mighty tough to prove anything on him. Oh,
- 6:42brother, that's an under statement. As a matter of fact, it'll be
- 6:45impossible to prove that story. Yeah. Well, once he's rested and interrogated,
- 6:49I figured he'll break down to us the whole thing unless he's completely simple
- 6:54minded. Nah, you haven't even got the shadow of a case, mister
- 6:58Wilson. All you've got is a while theory that doesn't even fit the facts.
- 7:01You got a better theory, I suppose, I think so. And
- 7:05would it be the kind that would take your company off the hook on that
- 7:09seventy five thousand dollars life insurance policy? By coincidence, it just so happens
- 7:13that it would. In fact, that insurance policy is the key to the
- 7:16whole thing. Yeh h. I sort of thought you might say that I
- 7:19didn't have any pet theory at first, but I do now I'm pretty sure
- 7:24this thing is an out and out insurance fraud and Danny Haynes is being used
- 7:28as the fall guy. Oh do tell and what are you finding fervidence,
- 7:32mister Dolling. Oh, A lot of little things that are sort of starting
- 7:35to add up. But one thing I got along telegram this morning from a
- 7:39firm of confidential investigators in New York. I forwarded a request through Hartford yesterday.
- 7:45Yeah, they turned up quite a lot on Marquee, such a its
- 7:47financial status. For the main thing, we'll go on, Well, when
- 7:51he and missus Markey were married three years ago, the firm was in first
- 7:55class shape. But they've been living high, living up his capital. If
- 7:59he got that content actually came down here after it, well it might have
- 8:01pulled him through. But he didn't get it. That result, he was
- 8:05flat broke. So what a lot of people have broken, but not many
- 8:07of them have a seventy five thousand dollars policy. I thought that's what you
- 8:11were getting at. What I am getting at is what I think happened.
- 8:16And I think Danny Haynes is telling the truth. I think Marky did send
- 8:20him off alone in that Dinghy then Marky fired the boat, opened the seahawks,
- 8:24and while she filled up and sank, he swam ashore in the fog.
- 8:28And he's waiting it out somewhere now until his widow collects the insurance.
- 8:31Oh, I don't see where you've got any more evidence than I have.
- 8:35Well, there's not much, I'll grant you, not so far, but
- 8:37what there is adds up. I guess I'm just stupid dollar. Oh I
- 8:41look, take missus Marky's attitude, for instance, She's trying hard to play
- 8:46the role, but it doesn't come off. How does she act to you
- 8:48like a four day widow? Well, she's got a lot of self control,
- 8:54I'll say she has. I tried to go to her yesterday. When
- 8:56I talked to her, came right out and practically and sullied her. And
- 8:58how did she reacts? Never took her eyes off that main chance. The
- 9:03seventy five thousand already know it's not exactly unheard of for a widow not to
- 9:07mind too much being a widow. Oh no, no, that's not the
- 9:09impression she gives. She's tense enough, nervous as a cat, but it's
- 9:13not because of grief or any feeling of relief. Either it's because she's afraid
- 9:18she might say the wrong thing and let her footslip. Well, everybody's got
- 9:22a right to their own opinion. Another thing is that Marky's body hasn't turned
- 9:26up now. I talked to the harbor master this morning. He knows the
- 9:28currents along this coast, backwards and forwards. He says, it's the only
- 9:33one chance in a hundred that Marky's body would have been carried out through the
- 9:35reef instead of thrown up on the beach about where you found that shoe.
- 9:37So this is the one time in a hundred that was a mighty valance,
- 9:43mister Dalla. We're gonna fight you, mister Wilson, if you petition the
- 9:46court to declare Marky legally dead. Yes, I sort of figured you would.
- 9:50Hensley and Davis phoned me this morning and said you'd retained them as counsel.
- 9:54That's right. Well I've been fought before. Expense account item eleven ten
- 10:03cents. Phone call to Edna Marky, widow of the allegedly deceased and beneficiary
- 10:07of his insurance policy. Hello, missus Markey. Yes, this is Johnny
- 10:13Dollar. Oh oh, I didn't recognize your boys. I wonder if I
- 10:16could ask a favor of you. Well, if it's something I can,
- 10:20I'd like to borrow a photograph of your late husband for a few hours.
- 10:24Well, I'll take good care of it, make sure he gets back to
- 10:26you. Well, the fact is I really don't have one. Oh,
- 10:31well, you must have forgotten. I noticed one yesterday afternoon on the mantle
- 10:35in your study will I I meant, not a good one. Well,
- 10:37that one will do fine, and thanks a lot. Has there something new
- 10:39come up, mister dollar? Yeah, she might say that. I'll send
- 10:43a messenger out to pick it up. Goodbye, missus Markey. I had
- 10:50him twelve three dollars and eighty cents messenger service. I had him thirteen a
- 10:52dollar and ninety cents TAXI fair to the used car lot of one truthful Tom,
- 10:56the dealer who'd sold a car to a man named John's, a car
- 11:01that had departed suddenly from the vicinity of the market beach house when its driver
- 11:05saw me come out of the house. I wasn't too sure whether Tom was
- 11:07truthful or not, but one thing was certain. He was typical. I
- 11:13notice you looking at that little great job friend, and I say to myself.
- 11:16Truthful, Tom, don't you go trying to get the best of that
- 11:18lad because he's walked right in here and spotted the best dog on buy on
- 11:22the lot before he's even turned around. Well, I wasn't really thinking of
- 11:24buying, friend, with the price I'll make you on that car, you
- 11:26can't afford not to buy. No, No, I'm not really in the
- 11:30market. It's an economic society, friend, We're all in the market when
- 11:33the price is right. Now. No, I just happened to notice that
- 11:35it looked like the car a friend of mine had stolen a few weeks My
- 11:37dear friend, I'll make you er. Did you say stolen? Or it
- 11:43may not be the same one. Of course, I've got papers on that
- 11:46car. I've got papers on every last car on this life. Did you
- 11:48have papers on the one you sold to John Smith two weeks ago? If
- 11:50he says I didn't, he's a liar and I can get a dozen witnesses
- 11:54to prove it. You remember him, then, well do you remember who
- 12:00luck? I'm a special investigator for the dull a liability. It's a frame
- 12:03up, that's all it is. Whoever it is says they got a hot
- 12:05car deal on this lot is lyon truthful. Tom never turned a dishonest pennion
- 12:09his whole dog onlike God, then we'll forget it. Any low down rat
- 12:11that says I did a two legged snake, and I what'd you say?
- 12:16I don't care anything about your deals? And trying to locate a fellow who
- 12:18bought a car from you? Well, friend, that puts a different light
- 12:22on it. John Smith, you said that's the name he used. I
- 12:26can't say I recollect anybody by that name. Here's a copy of the title
- 12:30registery on the car. Don't see No. Six eight or two dark green?
- 12:37Oh? That was that old clunker that? Of course it was well
- 12:41worth the price. I was asking you remember the buyer? You bet your
- 12:43life? You know why? Because he paid cash, not a check cash,
- 12:48I mean the real long green Missoula, which you recognize the photograph of
- 12:52him. Well I might if how was this shit? Well let's see now,
- 12:58well, no doubt of it. Friend, that's the lad, all
- 13:01right. You didn't mean missus Markey. I brought back the photograph of your
- 13:16husband. Oh there wasn't that much hurry about it. Did it help any
- 13:20quite a bit? Do you mind if I come in all right, of
- 13:22course, thank you. You know I've been trying to think all day long
- 13:26what you could possibly want of that picture. I still can't imagine. I
- 13:30can sit down, mister dollars. It's a terrible picture, of course,
- 13:35That's why I hesitated about giving it to you. Doesn't look a thing like
- 13:37him. It looked enough like him, missus markin enough like him. I
- 13:43don't think I know what you mean. Did you know your husband bought a
- 13:46secondhand car the week before his so called death? You must be mistaken.
- 13:50He'd have told me about it. The car dealer positively identifies as photograph.
- 13:54He was the name John Smith, paid for it in cash. What did
- 13:56you mean so called death when you, Markey isn't dead. I think we're
- 14:01both aware of that. Well, missus Markeye, aren't we? Do you
- 14:05mind telling me what you're talking about? It wasn't even a very smart scheme
- 14:09to start with. Your husband must have been really up against the wall,
- 14:13or he'd have known better than to try it. But I suppose he thought
- 14:16he had to in order to hang on to you. I imagine you're pretty
- 14:18expensive to support. I think you'd better leave right now. Actually it would
- 14:20serve you both right if I did, but I decided to give you a
- 14:24chance. I came here to let you know exactly where you stand and where
- 14:28is that If I may ask, one step away from prison. Take that
- 14:31step and you're in up to your next You and your husband both what step?
- 14:35So far, we have no case against you for attempt at fraud because
- 14:37you haven't filed a claim yet. But take my advice, missus Marky,
- 14:41don't file one, because the minute you do, we're going to hit you
- 14:43with both barrels. It got some pretty crazy ideas, haven't You've had fair
- 14:48warning? I've had one of the biggest bluffs I've ever heard about. Why
- 14:50you people would do anything, wouldn't you to keep them paying off on a
- 14:52pulp? Better talk it over with your husband before you do anything foolish.
- 14:56My husband is dead, mister Dollar. No one but you even doubts it.
- 14:58I'm a cynic. How much proof does it take to bring you to
- 15:01your sl This is Markey? Is this case stands right now? There's only
- 15:03one way you could convince me that William Markey is not alive. Show me
- 15:07his dead body, Johnny Dollar, It's just a moment, mister Dollar.
- 15:31Nice Johnny Dollar, Bonnie Wilson here, your hotel told me where to locate
- 15:37you. I'd rather you located that car. All the police agencies in the
- 15:41state have the license numbering description. It'll turn up. Well, the sooner
- 15:45the better. You'll take more than a car to prove William Markey is still
- 15:48alive. The dealer who sold it to him identified as photograph. All right,
- 15:52but he bought the car two weeks ago. We know it was alive
- 15:54at that time. In case you've forgotten, mister Dollar, the Fathom five
- 15:58saying only four days ago, that's when market was murdered. Okay, okay,
- 16:03we're not going to settle it by arguing. That's why I phoned.
- 16:06It's going to be settled to Maw Mormon. You petitioned for a hearing ten
- 16:10o'clock and Judge Campbell Chambers, you're making a mistake. See in court,
- 16:12mister Dolla from Special Investigator Johnny Dollar, location Miami Beach to the home office
- 16:26Delta Liability, Hartford, Connecticut. Assignment the Fathom five matter the case of
- 16:32a cruiser mysteriously sunk off the Florida Coast. I phoned the insurance company's legal
- 16:41counsel and told him that Wilson had petitioned a hearing to have William Marky declared
- 16:45legally dead. Then I rejoined missus Markey in the study. She was tense
- 16:49and on edge, pacing the floor and smoking nervously. I watched her a
- 16:53moment without saying anything, fully aware of her beauty and appeal, and fully
- 16:59convinced also that she and her missing husband were trying to swindle my company out
- 17:02of seventy five thousand dollars in life insurance. I felt a little sorry for
- 17:06Marquis. She must have been a pretty expensive luxury for a man who was
- 17:10going broke. But then I stopped feeling sorry. I remembered that they tried
- 17:15to set up young Danny Haynes as the fall guy for murder. Well,
- 17:18why don't you go ahead and say it? Say what whatever it is you're
- 17:22thinking. I thought i'd already said it pretty bluntly too. You made some
- 17:25wild accusations, not so wild. I've got some fairly solid facts to pack
- 17:29them up. Apparently the DA's office doesn't agree with you. Wasn't that mister
- 17:33Wilson on the phone, That's right? And didn't he say he would ask
- 17:36the court to declare my husband legally dead. He's going to try to or
- 17:38we'll stop him cold. He hasn't got a leg to stand on. Well,
- 17:41that's what you're hired for, isn't it to find some technicality so they
- 17:45can get out of paying off on a policy. Attempted fraud isn't exactly a
- 17:48technicality, Missus marquis. I'll repeat that advice I just gave you. Get
- 17:53in touch with your husband, tell him the scheme is off. It won't
- 17:56work, and don't file acclaim for that life insurance. You'd like that,
- 18:00wouldn't you. You'd just love to bluff me out of seventy five thousand dollars.
- 18:03No, No, I just kind of hate to see you go to
- 18:06prison, that's all. And that's exactly what is going to happen if you
- 18:08file it claim. You keep talking about some scheme, what scheme, mister
- 18:14dollar you wanted later right on the line, it's like to know what you're
- 18:18talking about and just how much I figured out? All right, all right,
- 18:22I'll paint it for you in black and white. Your husband was broke,
- 18:25flat broke. I'm not guessing there. I got a report on him
- 18:27from a financial investigator in New York. I knew nothing about his business affairs,
- 18:30and I wouldn't know anyway. He thought he saw a chance to pull
- 18:33off a swindle on the basis of the only thing he had left, that
- 18:36seventy five thousand dollars life insurance policy. So the two of you worked it
- 18:40out together. Did your financial investigator tell you that, or would you be
- 18:45guessing? Your husband bought a car under an assumed name and probably rented living
- 18:48quarter somewhere in the area under another assumed name. So it was all set.
- 18:53It was just a matter of waiting for a morning when a heavy fog
- 18:56was down. You have a fantastic imagination. Meantime, just in case the
- 19:00accident theory didn't go over, you kept playing young Haines along so it would
- 19:03seem as though he had a motive for murder, and that part was a
- 19:07since he was already halfway in love with you. You also have a rather
- 19:10nasty imagination. So finally, four days ago, conditions were just right.
- 19:14Your husband took Haynes out on that fishing trip and the Fathom five. He
- 19:18anchored the cruiser and sent Haines off along the reef and the dinghy. Then
- 19:21he set fire to the boat, open the sea cock so it would be
- 19:23sure to sink. He swam ashore and drove off in the car that he
- 19:26bought for exactly that purpose. As I understand it, mister Dolla, that
- 19:30cruiser was anchored a mile or two off shore. Are you actually suggesting my
- 19:34husband swam that distance? You mean that something else you supposedly didn't know about?
- 19:41What? All? That report from New York was more complete than you
- 19:44seemed to realize. William Mark he has been a member of the green Point
- 19:48Athletic Club for years. He won silver cups in the Long Island Sound Marathon
- 19:52swim three different times. I knew he belonged to the club, of course,
- 19:56but I assumed it was more social furs. He could swim that far
- 19:59that particular a talent was probably what gave him the idea for the whole thing.
- 20:03There's no proof, you know, not one bit of real proof.
- 20:07There will be if you try to collect that insurance, we'll turn up enough
- 20:11proof to reach all away from here to the state prison. So if you
- 20:14try to you excuse me, please, Yeah, sure, I'll be right
- 20:18back. I lit a cigarette and waited for wondering why I even bother to
- 20:23come here. I was fed up with it, sick of the whole thing.
- 20:29Fraud casesn't like that, messing dirty. You see people with a mask
- 20:33down, and you get a look inside, and you get there wondering if
- 20:37everybody's like that, wondering if you'd be like that yourself, maybe if the
- 20:40price were right, And if you are, you'll hope you'll never find it
- 20:42out. All I wanted at the moment was to leave the house, wind
- 20:47the thing up, and get out of town. I'm sorry, mister dollar.
- 20:52Was somebody looking for an address? I mean they had a wrong address.
- 20:56I see. Well, I think we at least understand each other.
- 21:00Now, yeah, I'm sure we do, and I can say only one
- 21:04thing. You're wrong. You're completely and absolutely wrong. Maybe I wish you
- 21:12weren't. I wish my husband were still alive, even under the circumstances you
- 21:18believe. Maybe I wouldn't be on the verge of a nervous breakdown trying to
- 21:22hold onto my sanity. Maybe I wouldn't be crying alone at night. You
- 21:27have my deepest sympathy, missus Markey, for everything you are going through.
- 21:34There's no use at all and trying to talk to you, is there not
- 21:38unless you care to tell me where to find your husband. Good night,
- 21:42mister Dollar. I left the house and turned down the dark road toward the
- 21:52Pompino Beach Hotel. I'd planned to pick up a taxi there, but after
- 21:56that unknown visitor came to missus Markey's door, I'd made a slighth change in
- 22:00the plans. Whoever it was hadn't been a stranger that I was sure of.
- 22:04She'd been too nervous when she came back into the room. It was
- 22:08someone she hadn't wanted me to know about, and I was pretty certain I
- 22:11could guess who you knew, mister Haynes. Oh you're mister Dollar, the
- 22:30insurance investigator. Mind if I come in? Well? All right? Sure
- 22:37you weren't asleep, were you? No? I I was just reading.
- 22:44Been here all evening? Yeah, sure I've been here. Why you haven't
- 22:47been out in the last half hour? I said, I'd been here all
- 22:49evening. You weren't down the road at the market place a few minutes ago?
- 22:52No, I wasn't. Now, Look, I've answered just about all
- 22:56the questions I'm going to to you or to anybody else So what are you
- 23:00trying to get at? What's the point? All right, forget it,
- 23:03Danny, sure, forget it. It looks like you're out to try the
- 23:07same thing Wilson's doing, trying to tag me on a murder rap, and
- 23:11you're trying to drag Edna into it, missus Marky. Oh, she told
- 23:15me how you talked to her last night, and I suppose you've been over
- 23:18there again this se evening. I'll tell you one thing right now. You
- 23:21better leave her alone and stop trying to push her around. She doesn't deserve
- 23:23it. She's had too much of that kind of stuff as it is.
- 23:26Oh from home, Danny, from Marky, that's from whom she tell you
- 23:30that. I suppose you'll claim she's lying. You think everybody is lying.
- 23:36But you don't know her like I do. She's a sweet kid dollar and
- 23:38she's had a raw deal out of life, such as Marky. The way
- 23:42he treated her things he made her do, Oh not when anybody would see
- 23:47it, pin it on him. He was too smart for that. But
- 23:49she told me about it, and there were plenty of times I could hardly
- 23:52keep from smashing him in the face. Oh, brother, she's got you
- 23:56really set up good What do you mean by that? If you talk this
- 24:00way to Wilson at the DA's office for two minutes, he'd slamp a murder
- 24:03indictment on yourself fast to make your head swim. I didn't kill Marky.
- 24:07Hating a guy is one thing, but I didn't kill him. Yeah,
- 24:08I know, I know, because he's still alive. Maybe he is.
- 24:15I don't know. All I know is what I saw out there that morning,
- 24:18and you saw only as much as he wanted you to see. Well,
- 24:22maybe so. But I'll tell you one thing. If he is trying
- 24:26to pull something crooked, he's doing it on his own. She's not in
- 24:29on it. It'd be a little hard for him to collect his own insurance,
- 24:30wouldn't it. Oh maybe he figured to get it away from her afterward.
- 24:37I don't know what he might be planning on, but I know she's
- 24:38got nothing to do with it. She's a great girl. I've never known
- 24:41anybody like her before. No, I don't imagine you have. I'd lay
- 24:45down my life for her if it ever came to that. And I imagine
- 24:49that's exactly what they were counting on. Good Night Danny expense account at himself
- 25:00sixteen a dollar ninety cents taxi fare the following morning from my hotel to the
- 25:03courthouse. I got there at nine thirty and went over the case with Jim
- 25:07Davis, local consul for the insurance company, and at ten o'clock the hearing
- 25:11on Wilson's petition was open a chamber session. Judge A. G. Campbell
- 25:14presiding. Judge Campbell kept the proceedings informal, and the whole thing moved pretty
- 25:18fast. Both sides presented briefs and additional evidence was introduced through verbal interrogation.
- 25:23Now witnesses were called. By ten thirty, the cases for both sides had
- 25:27been completed very well. There's no further evidence of factor rebuttal. The court
- 25:37will make its decision on the evidence at hand. Now. In cases of
- 25:42this nature, where it is requested that the fact of death be established by
- 25:48legal declaration, it has been generally held that the substantiating evidence was that request
- 25:52must be essentially unchallengeable. The presidents of law are too numerous to bother sighting.
- 26:00Now in the case we are considering here, it seems the court that
- 26:03the substantiating evidence is far from unchallengeable. In what a fact, it would
- 26:10seem that the bulk of the evidence indicates that William Markey may indeed be still
- 26:15alive. Oh, the Court would be powerless to act even in the face
- 26:21of a reasonable doubt, and the contrary evidence here is a good deal stronger
- 26:26than a reasonable doubt. Therefore, in the matter of the request made here
- 26:30in that William Marky be declared legally dead, it is the Court's decision that
- 26:34the petition not be granted. If new evidence becomes available at some future time,
- 26:41the petition may be resubmitted. The court is adjourned. Well, looks
- 26:51like you won, mister Dalla, I tells you what would happen? I
- 26:55sure do. I hate to see that kid get away with murder. And
- 26:56I forget it. Markey is walking around somewhere just as alive as you or
- 27:00I. Well, we've all got to write our opinions. Mister Dollar,
- 27:04I see he's floating around out there in Atlantic somewhere. That's what he meant
- 27:08for us to think. Maybe so. But I pardon me, mister Wilson,
- 27:11A message you has phoned in for you, but they wouldn't let me
- 27:14in the courtroom. Oh thank you man. Excuse me, mister Dollar,
- 27:18sure, go ahead and read it. Did I step out of that office?
- 27:22Somebody's born? The stars come, well, well, what's the matter,
- 27:30mister Dollar. The Coast Patrol hold a man's body out of the surf
- 27:33by an hour ago, been drowned, so they got a quick check on
- 27:38his prints. It's William Marky. Now here's our star to tell you about
- 27:59the final intriguing episode of this week's story Tomorrow. A dead man tells a
- 28:03tale, but not the tale he was meant to tell, and thereby hangs
- 28:08the wind up. Join us, won't you? Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar?
- 28:21Yours Truly Johnny Dollar is starring Bob Bailey, is transcribed in Hollywood,
- 28:26written by Les Crutchfield. It is produced and directed by Jack Johnstone. Be
- 28:30sure to join us tomorrow night, same time and station for the next exciting
- 28:33episode of Yours Truly Johnny Dollar. Roy Rowan speaking welcome back. There's so
- 29:37much to say. I love the interactions between Johnny and the district attorney.
- 29:44They have been priceless. I mean watching those two just go at it,
- 29:48it's really enjoyable. Sometimes people will talk about a movie or TV show being
- 29:55just a bunch of people talking, and that becomes a problem when it's really
- 30:00really boring. But when you get those two actors, you know, those
- 30:04two characters together, it's just such an interesting dynamic as they make their case.
- 30:10And a true tribute to the character actor Barney Phillips who played this role
- 30:15probably best known for his work on Dragnet, but played a ton of roles
- 30:21on radio and really just does a great job creating this character. And the
- 30:25judge just a perfect performance that was by John Dayner, best known as the
- 30:30radio voice of Paladin from Havegun, Will Travel, But he's great as a
- 30:36judge. In fact, he actually recorded an audition that will eventually play for
- 30:41a detective series where he play a crime a crime solving judge, but really
- 30:49just brought the perfect air of dignity. But of course it may appear that
- 30:53everything's moot with his latest discovery, and we have to find out is it
- 30:59a case of somebody getting nervous or was the district attorney right all a wrong
- 31:04and our hero wrong as he sometimes is. Well, folks, we will
- 31:10have to find out on Friday. It'll be the lind Up, so you'll
- 31:14want to be with us. Then, well, folks, we now turn
- 31:17to some listener comments and feedback. Christine emails in from West Tennessee. I
- 31:23was listening to the Johnny Dollar podcast The Cavono Matter and listen to you read
- 31:29a letter from a basketball coach. I'm happy to say that I had no
- 31:33idea there were other young people out there that listen to this type of radio
- 31:37programs. Some people think that these programs are boring or have no element of
- 31:40surprise. What they don't know is that a lot of movies and television programs
- 31:44are based off of these shows. I am thirty four years old and have
- 31:48been listening to Johnny Dollar for about three years now, and I love it.
- 31:52I actually got my same age fiance into it, and he bought me
- 31:55a huge collection of Johnny Dollar this past Valentine's Day, which I'd on through
- 32:00in about two weeks. Aha. I would like to say thank you for
- 32:04broadcasting this program as well as all the others. It's sad that some youngsters
- 32:07today are so technology driven that they have no idea how to use their imagination
- 32:12and see the story unfolding their own minds. Keep up the great broadcasting.
- 32:16Well, thanks so much. I really appreciate it. Christine and we do
- 32:21have younger listeners who are out there. People under thirty five. According to
- 32:27our Listeners survey make up about fourteen percent of the audience, and you know,
- 32:37we have quite a few in that thirty five to forty five bracket as
- 32:42well. I appreciate all of our listeners. I think if the show has
- 32:46one thing, it's making this available, making it easy to pass these shows
- 32:52on because I think that, you know, sometimes I kind of you know,
- 32:57I kind of hate to sound old before my time in world about imaginations
- 33:02because everything seems to be super spaed and a thousand tons of CGI graphics and
- 33:09so many things I think that are truly good and truly enjoyable can get stereotype.
- 33:15I thank everyone who's listening, regardless of their age, and we have
- 33:21just so many great listeners, and we're just going to continue to work to
- 33:23keep these great radio dramas alive and continuing to broadcast. All right, Well,
- 33:30that will do it for today. Tomorrow we're going to continue with the
- 33:35adventures of one Nicholas Carter, the greatest of all Manhunters, and then we
- 33:42will be back on Friday for part five of the Fathom five Matter. Follow
