- 1:51Speaker 1: Disguise Coverage, we will be diving into the Buffalo Bill's
- 1:57Speaker 1: trade deadline, which proved to be for me at least
- 2:01Speaker 1: surprisingly uneventful. We're obviously going to talk about it as
- 2:04Speaker 1: we go forward in this episode, and know a lot
- 2:05Speaker 1: of you folks have thoughts, We're going to have thoughts
- 2:08Speaker 1: in this episode. It just seemed like there was a
- 2:10Speaker 1: lot of smoke going into this deadline, and not smoke
- 2:13Speaker 1: for the sake of smoke. It really seemed like where
- 2:16Speaker 1: there's smoke, there's fire, especially at several positions potentially for
- 2:21Speaker 1: this team. And the Bills weren't a lot of rumors
- 2:24Speaker 1: and a lot of notes and this is funny, Yeah,
- 2:27Speaker 1: but what what trade deadline? Yeah, the Bills were involved
- 2:30Speaker 1: heavily and a lot of rumors going into today's trade
- 2:33Speaker 1: deadline throughout the morning, throughout the afternoon, and then kind
- 2:37Speaker 1: of just waited for the other shoe drop and that
- 2:38Speaker 1: shoe never dropped. And so this episode we are going
- 2:42Speaker 1: to dive into essentially, you know, the lack of activity,
- 2:47Speaker 1: the sleepiness of the deadline for the Buffalo Bills. You know,
- 2:50Speaker 1: talking about this deadline and how you would categorize it
- 2:52Speaker 1: as a failure, what moves we wanted to see that
- 2:55Speaker 1: didn't end up coming to fruition and potential concern levels
- 2:58Speaker 1: going forward for the rest of twenty twenty five for
- 3:01Speaker 1: this Buffalo Bills team, and then having that conversation. I've
- 3:04Speaker 1: mentioned we several times. That's because I'm not alone in
- 3:07Speaker 1: this episode. This episode kind of came together somewhat at
- 3:09Speaker 1: the last minute. I really expected there to be activity,
- 3:13Speaker 1: and I expected to do some film in this episode
- 3:15Speaker 1: of disguise coverage, But because of the lack of activity,
- 3:18Speaker 1: I pivoted, wasn't sure if I was still going to
- 3:20Speaker 1: do a trade deadline episode. Reached out to somebody who
- 3:22Speaker 1: I'd been talking to throughout the entire day, asked him
- 3:25Speaker 1: if he wanted to do a trade deadline episode. He
- 3:27Speaker 1: found the time, and so we did the show. And
- 3:29Speaker 1: here we are welcoming for I don't know what appearance.
- 3:33Speaker 1: You've been here a lot, mister Kendall. The West live
- 3:37Speaker 1: in the dream there in the no Sunshine state is Florida?
- 3:41Speaker 1: What is California? The what state?
- 3:43Speaker 3: I should know this? This is really bad. I should
- 3:45Speaker 3: absolutely know this does it have one?
- 3:48Speaker 1: It has a thing like the.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Has a thing. But I'm just a displaced Rochesterian, so
- 3:55Speaker 3: I don't I don't know. I just live here.
- 3:57Speaker 1: What do I know. I just I just live here.
- 3:59Speaker 1: What do I know?
- 3:59Speaker 3: I think taxes.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I just live here. I just make my home here,
- 4:03Speaker 1: I work here, pay the taxes, contribute to the economy here.
- 4:06Speaker 1: But you know whatever, that's Oh the Golden State, Yeah, that's.
- 4:13Speaker 3: It sounds right.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Multiple people have said Golden Yeah, it.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Sounds right, and I think it has a lot to
- 4:18Speaker 3: do with the Bay Area. It sounds right. I believe it.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I believe the chat.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I appreciate the chat, and I appreciate you for taking
- 4:25Speaker 1: the time. Welcome to the show.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Of course, thanks for asking me. Man, It's I needed
- 4:29Speaker 3: this level of catharticism. I guess, like, yeah, I mean,
- 4:34Speaker 3: we were texting most of the day today, so it
- 4:38Speaker 3: was definitely nice to actually get to use my mouth
- 4:42Speaker 3: to talk about this and not have to go through
- 4:44Speaker 3: my thumbs a lot. It's a lot less effort. But yeah, no,
- 4:48Speaker 3: I am happy to be back, happy to be able
- 4:50Speaker 3: to talk bills because it's just been a lot of
- 4:52Speaker 3: listening to Bill's talk for the first like nine weeks
- 4:56Speaker 3: of this season, I really haven't had a chance to
- 4:58Speaker 3: like unload my thoughts other than just with friends. But yeah,
- 5:02Speaker 3: happy to be here.
- 5:03Speaker 1: I always feel like you. You come on the show
- 5:08Speaker 1: for episodes that we're doing like some kind of forecasting
- 5:11Speaker 1: or reacting, like it's usually, oh, it's always macro, always macro, yes,
- 5:16Speaker 1: And I think this very much fits into that here
- 5:20Speaker 1: because we've got the macro of the bigger picture for
- 5:22Speaker 1: the rest of twenty twenty five. But it's kind of
- 5:23Speaker 1: tied not even kind of, it's tied to the micro
- 5:26Speaker 1: of this day, this specific time in the year for
- 5:30Speaker 1: the Buffalo Bills. You had specific thoughts on the day.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I know I had specific thoughts for everyone in the chat.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I know a lot of people were frustrated, questions, thoughts, comments, concerns, frustrations.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Feel free to put them into the chat at will.
- 5:42Speaker 1: We will be bringing up a lot of those as
- 5:43Speaker 1: we go through this episode. I always like to make
- 5:45Speaker 1: the show as engaging as possible, but especially on days
- 5:48Speaker 1: or moments where I know there is a lot of
- 5:51Speaker 1: sentiment one way or the other well amongst the fan base,
- 5:53Speaker 1: So feel free to put up anything and everything you
- 5:55Speaker 1: folks got into the chat. As always, super chats get
- 5:57Speaker 1: priority because I respect them. It r donation, but also
- 6:00Speaker 1: the color distracts me like a cat with a laser pointer.
- 6:02Speaker 1: It takes me away from my notes. Kendall, the first
- 6:05Speaker 1: kind of topic I wanted to get into kind of
- 6:07Speaker 1: use this to lead us into this trade deadline discussion.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I kind of think I know what your answer is,
- 6:13Speaker 1: but feel free to obviously answer this question and put
- 6:15Speaker 1: whatever detail you want into it. Would you, and for
- 6:17Speaker 1: those of you in the chat playing at home, feel
- 6:20Speaker 1: free to answer along with us, Kendall, would you consider
- 6:22Speaker 1: this trade deadline a failure for the Buffalo Bills?
- 6:26Speaker 3: At first when you sent me this, I like tried
- 6:29Speaker 3: to read this and do everything I could to be
- 6:32Speaker 3: the optimist because I feel like I've done that for
- 6:35Speaker 3: years where it's like everyone's fire McDermott, fire, this coordinator, firefirefire,
- 6:40Speaker 3: and I'm always just like, guys, can we be pragmatic
- 6:42Speaker 3: about this? And like, can we have some But like
- 6:47Speaker 3: the more I add context to this, the more I
- 6:49Speaker 3: don't really see the optimism in it. I think there's
- 6:54Speaker 3: a level of yeah, there's people on the roster. I
- 6:58Speaker 3: guess those who aren't healthy that that can be the
- 7:01Speaker 3: reinforcements that we needed, and I'm sure we'll get to that.
- 7:04Speaker 3: But like, there were so many opportunities on this roster
- 7:08Speaker 3: that were ripe for improvement, and with the I guess
- 7:13Speaker 3: corresponding move of restructuring Tarin, it really felt like there
- 7:18Speaker 3: was an effort to make a move and we just
- 7:21Speaker 3: got out bid today. And then I keep going back
- 7:24Speaker 3: to the idea of like there's so many places on
- 7:28Speaker 3: this roster that could have been had, and I think
- 7:32Speaker 3: sure there over the last two weeks. I think people
- 7:36Speaker 3: generally and I'm sure the coaching staff probably feels the same,
- 7:39Speaker 3: they feel marginally better. However, you want to measure it
- 7:43Speaker 3: about the secondary, whether that's Cool Bishop's play, whether that's
- 7:47Speaker 3: Jordan Poyer's play, whether that's Maxwell Harrison's play, Like there
- 7:52Speaker 3: is a market difference in how this secondary has played
- 7:55Speaker 3: over the last two weeks. Albeit I know one of them.
- 7:58Speaker 3: One of those weeks was in Andy Daon, who wasn't
- 8:00Speaker 3: even on his game for his standards, so like he.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Threw some dimes early and then just forgot how to
- 8:05Speaker 1: play quarterback. It was great.
- 8:07Speaker 3: It was a weird one, but like to be fair,
- 8:09Speaker 3: the Bills played a good game and they created havoc
- 8:11Speaker 3: the same way they did against Mahomes, So it's like
- 8:13Speaker 3: there's a level of that. But like I think going
- 8:16Speaker 3: into that Carolina game, there's an argument of Ooh, do
- 8:19Speaker 3: they make a trade for safety, Ooh, do they like
- 8:21Speaker 3: make a trade for Cam Taylor Britt who's been a
- 8:23Speaker 3: healthy scratch and just add something to the cornerback room
- 8:28Speaker 3: just just so trade doesn't have to play so much.
- 8:32Speaker 3: So there was just options beyond wide receiver. But I
- 8:35Speaker 3: do think the big thing and like all my friends
- 8:38Speaker 3: were texting me about it, and I think everyone wanted it,
- 8:41Speaker 3: like we wanted a wide receiver. I think it's fair
- 8:44Speaker 3: to think that this was somewhat a failure because there
- 8:48Speaker 3: wasn't a wide receiver. But then on top of that,
- 8:50Speaker 3: I didn't even mention defensive tackle or trying to replace
- 8:53Speaker 3: the joker that is Michael Hoyt. Like I mean, that's
- 8:58Speaker 3: really a tall task and it's to kind of replicate
- 9:01Speaker 3: what he offers to this defense in the sense of versatility.
- 9:05Speaker 1: But I'm still guded that he went down. Yeah, that's terrible,
- 9:09Speaker 1: but like there's just so many opportunities that they could
- 9:12Speaker 1: have made a move. And I didn't even get into this,
- 9:16Speaker 1: but I was so wrong in thinking this and shout
- 9:19Speaker 1: out to Joe Marino. But I was prior to the
- 9:23Speaker 1: Chiefs game, I was like, I want them to lose
- 9:25Speaker 1: because I want them to see that they need more
- 9:28Speaker 1: if they want to attain their all. That was the
- 9:30Speaker 1: silver lining in my head going into the game. I
- 9:32Speaker 1: was like, yeah, they lose, he maybe gives them more
- 9:35Speaker 1: impetus to do a move, Like I might kind of
- 9:37Speaker 1: take that.
- 9:37Speaker 3: But then he was saying He's like, because they won
- 9:40Speaker 3: this game, they should have proved to themselves that they
- 9:45Speaker 3: are contenders and to improve upon their contender status, they
- 9:50Speaker 3: should make a move where there is room to improve.
- 9:53Speaker 3: And I completely subscribe to that because I think there's
- 9:56Speaker 3: an element of like chasing something that isn't there. If
- 9:58Speaker 3: you lose that game to the chief Or, it's like,
- 10:00Speaker 3: are you really a contender? You just kind of like
- 10:03Speaker 3: a good team that has some flaws and is somewhat fraudulent,
- 10:08Speaker 3: But like by winning that game, it's like you're squarely there.
- 10:11Speaker 3: You can beat the best of the best. Yes, there's
- 10:13Speaker 3: the argument of this team is specifically built to beat
- 10:16Speaker 3: the Chiefs, and they'll struggle against teams that aren't built
- 10:19Speaker 3: like the Chiefs, and that's still valid, but it's really
- 10:23Speaker 3: frustrating that this roster is ripe for improvement in multiple
- 10:28Speaker 3: areas from just pure roster construction or because of injuries,
- 10:32Speaker 3: whatever it is. There were opportunities, and because no move
- 10:36Speaker 3: was made, it.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Does kind of feel like a failure. Maybe that's a
- 10:40Speaker 1: little emotional, but it does kind of feel like a failure.
- 10:43Speaker 1: You know. I sent you similarly to how you kind
- 10:45Speaker 1: of presented your answer here. I sent you this outline,
- 10:49Speaker 1: and I wanted to lead off with this first because
- 10:52Speaker 1: a lot of a lot of like the responses I
- 10:54Speaker 1: was getting on social was, you know, even people who
- 10:58Speaker 1: weren't like they're people who were full like this is
- 11:01Speaker 1: a failure being needs to be fired. He's terrible endpoint,
- 11:05Speaker 1: But even a lot of people who are positive were
- 11:07Speaker 1: still like, man, this is really disappointing. Yeah, and that's
- 11:10Speaker 1: kind of where I was. I've always said I've said
- 11:12Speaker 1: at every trade deadline, like and it's it's been said
- 11:15Speaker 1: too much at this point, like it takes two to
- 11:16Speaker 1: ten ago. But the whole idea of like we never
- 11:20Speaker 1: know what deals being tried to make. We don't know
- 11:23Speaker 1: how close he was. We don't know what the asking
- 11:26Speaker 1: price was where I don't know for some reason, maybe
- 11:28Speaker 1: he did reach out to the Saints, but for whatever reason,
- 11:30Speaker 1: the Saints were like, oh, you want Shaheed, you got
- 11:32Speaker 1: to give us a first. I doubt that happened, but
- 11:34Speaker 1: we never know, like what really happened behind the scenes,
- 11:37Speaker 1: like what were the costs, what moves were made, especially
- 11:39Speaker 1: for someone like Brandon Bean, who truly does kick the
- 11:42Speaker 1: tires on anything and everything, like you know, he's always
- 11:46Speaker 1: trying to improve this team. And so I always go
- 11:49Speaker 1: in with that caveat of like it's not especially in
- 11:52Speaker 1: the NFL, Like it's not major league, even though it's
- 11:55Speaker 1: picked up in recent years. It's not major League Baseball.
- 11:57Speaker 1: It's not the NBA. It's not the NHL or trade
- 12:00Speaker 1: deadline day. There's a flurry of moves and everything, and
- 12:03Speaker 1: you're like, oh my god, from wire to wire, it's crazy.
- 12:06Speaker 1: The NFL again, it's picked up steam each year, but
- 12:08Speaker 1: it's not really a ton of deals that happen. And
- 12:11Speaker 1: so that's still in my mind of like what I
- 12:12Speaker 1: considered as a failure. I recognize all the logistical structural
- 12:16Speaker 1: hurdles that exist or could have happened that prevented a
- 12:18Speaker 1: deal getting done. But I do consider it a failure because,
- 12:23Speaker 1: kind of to your point, there were I thought there
- 12:26Speaker 1: were a multitude of positions where they could have potentially upgraded,
- 12:29Speaker 1: and we're going to get into that in our next
- 12:30Speaker 1: couple of segments. And I feel like the entry point
- 12:39Speaker 1: to making those deals wasn't too crazy. Yeah, I know,
- 12:43Speaker 1: Shahed isn't necessarily a true wide receiver one. I know,
- 12:47Speaker 1: you know, he's on the last year of his deal.
- 12:49Speaker 1: I still think that's a really fair deal for what
- 12:51Speaker 1: Seattle gave up for Shaheed, and I would have taken him.
- 12:54Speaker 1: And that's just one small example, let alone again what
- 12:58Speaker 1: they potentially could have done. Again, maybe they did the
- 13:00Speaker 1: tires on a corner or a defensive tack or a
- 13:02Speaker 1: safety or something, and this team's the asking price was
- 13:04Speaker 1: crazy and it didn't work out. But because there were
- 13:07Speaker 1: multiple avenues that I thought they could improve this team,
- 13:10Speaker 1: and multiple avenues that I thought they needed to improve
- 13:12Speaker 1: this team, I do consider it a failure because they
- 13:16Speaker 1: didn't get anything done. While still recognizing again the hurdles
- 13:19Speaker 1: and logistical obstacles that exist in making these kind of
- 13:22Speaker 1: deals and also tying into that. And I'll save some
- 13:25Speaker 1: of this talk for one of our previous segments. This
- 13:29Speaker 1: You and I have talked a little bit through text,
- 13:31Speaker 1: and I mentioned on the show folks, no I'm a
- 13:33Speaker 1: Red Sox fan. The Red Sox ownership has become notoriously frugal,
- 13:39Speaker 1: to the point the past several year where they're acting
- 13:41Speaker 1: like they're the pirates of the Marlins. They won't really
- 13:43Speaker 1: spend money. The Crochet deal is very much an outlier,
- 13:47Speaker 1: not the regularity of what they've done. I'm not going
- 13:49Speaker 1: to get too much into what the Red Sox are,
- 13:50Speaker 1: don't want to get too far off topic here, but
- 13:53Speaker 1: for the last several years, especially this year, granted they
- 13:56Speaker 1: made the playoffs the previous year where they were looking
- 13:59Speaker 1: good at try deadline time and then they ended up faltering.
- 14:02Speaker 1: They had a lot of guys on the injury Like
- 14:04Speaker 1: on IR, a lot of guys were banged up, and
- 14:06Speaker 1: what management kept selling everyone was like, we don't need
- 14:09Speaker 1: to make moves because the guys coming back off of
- 14:12Speaker 1: injury are like the trades that they were gonna make.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Because the way we're going to improve the roster, and
- 14:16Speaker 1: it's like, yeah, but when those guys were healthy, you
- 14:20Speaker 1: still could have kind of improved. And I understand the sentiment,
- 14:23Speaker 1: but that doesn't really count and for me at least,
- 14:27Speaker 1: And I love that point that you made that I
- 14:28Speaker 1: guess Joe Marino made that idea of you know, you
- 14:32Speaker 1: beat Kansas City, but you and you did it with
- 14:35Speaker 1: a lot of backups on defense, a lot of backups
- 14:37Speaker 1: to the backups. You had practice squad defensive tackles playing
- 14:40Speaker 1: in that game, and you had a great game plan
- 14:42Speaker 1: and you beat Kansas City. Imagine what you could do
- 14:46Speaker 1: against Kansas City again or some of the better teams
- 14:49Speaker 1: if you improved a bunch of those positions, or you
- 14:52Speaker 1: worked on some of your vulnerabilities and made yourself even stronger. Yes,
- 14:57Speaker 1: you can play the one side and say, yeah, you
- 14:59Speaker 1: beat them with what you are currently. Actually in a
- 15:01Speaker 1: weekend state, you beat them. So if you just get healthier,
- 15:03Speaker 1: you'll be fine. But imagine what you be if you
- 15:06Speaker 1: not only got healthier, but you also got stronger, especially
- 15:09Speaker 1: in a year where we're in November. We'll see what
- 15:13Speaker 1: happens going forward. The AFC just seems wide the open. Yeah,
- 15:19Speaker 1: like it just it is completely wide open Kansas City.
- 15:22Speaker 1: I still think they're the King of the Mountain until
- 15:25Speaker 1: someone proves otherwise. They look very vulnerable. Baltimore has been
- 15:28Speaker 1: banged up like crazy and just having what a Baltimore
- 15:31Speaker 1: season like every other year where they get hurt a
- 15:33Speaker 1: ton or they have bad luck and then burrows out.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Cincinnati is kind of a mess. The Colts are at
- 15:39Speaker 1: the top, but like, the Colts are beatable, tough to
- 15:43Speaker 1: absolutely like the Patriots are what they are. But I'm
- 15:46Speaker 1: cool facing the Patriots in the playoffs. I'm not saying
- 15:48Speaker 1: they're a bad team, but the AFC is wide open,
- 15:51Speaker 1: and I feel like that also kind of speaks to
- 15:54Speaker 1: this is kind of striking while the iron is hot.
- 15:57Speaker 1: And I also just expected them to get some kind
- 16:00Speaker 1: of movie. And I were talking offline, I'd put the
- 16:02Speaker 1: over under it one and a half because I thought
- 16:04Speaker 1: there was a good chance that you could see two
- 16:06Speaker 1: moves today or more. But I thought the very least
- 16:08Speaker 1: there would be one. So yeah, I do consider it
- 16:11Speaker 1: a failure. And though again I know, you know, Daikwon
- 16:14Speaker 1: Jones and TJ. Sanders and Joshua Palmer and Ed Oliver
- 16:18Speaker 1: down the road and all these guys that will continue to,
- 16:21Speaker 1: you know, potentially come back. But yeah, and I don't
- 16:24Speaker 1: know if it's too emotional or if it's because the
- 16:26Speaker 1: expectation I set. I do see this as a failure,
- 16:29Speaker 1: and I'm frustrated because I see it that way, because
- 16:32Speaker 1: logistically I usually don't.
- 16:35Speaker 3: I think the expectation is actually the thing. And I
- 16:37Speaker 3: feel like we say that every single time. It's like
- 16:41Speaker 3: everything with this team and every way that we react
- 16:44Speaker 3: is always based around expectation. Yes, there is a part
- 16:48Speaker 3: of me that thinks that they were trying, I think,
- 16:52Speaker 3: being acknowledges where this roster is and where this franchise is,
- 16:56Speaker 3: and it's in its timeline and its lifespan, and how
- 17:01Speaker 3: integral draft picks really are. And I think there was
- 17:05Speaker 3: a part of this that he was trying to unload
- 17:08Speaker 3: people like Curtis Samuel and no one was taking it right.
- 17:12Speaker 3: Like I think there's a part of this where he's
- 17:14Speaker 3: trying to include players in the trade and it's like
- 17:16Speaker 3: the Bills don't really have attractive players that we are
- 17:19Speaker 3: willing to trade. I think there was a there was
- 17:22Speaker 3: a time and place where Ajpanessa could be part of
- 17:26Speaker 3: that conversation. But I think given the way the season
- 17:29Speaker 3: has played out, whether it's injuries or just how Epanessa
- 17:32Speaker 3: has played, I don't think he's someone the Bills want
- 17:34Speaker 3: to get rid of anymore. I don't think where that
- 17:37Speaker 3: might have been in July is completely different from where
- 17:40Speaker 3: it is right now. So I wonder how much that
- 17:43Speaker 3: came into things where it's like, eh, I don't want
- 17:45Speaker 3: to get rid of draft picks, like we how gunshy
- 17:49Speaker 3: is he after getting rid of a third for Amari
- 17:51Speaker 3: Cooper last year? And how gunshy is he for walking
- 17:56Speaker 3: back his take from the summer on the wide receiver room,
- 17:59Speaker 3: Like there's a lot of elements here where we just
- 18:03Speaker 3: don't know how it played out, the same way that
- 18:04Speaker 3: you said, we don't know what these negotiations were, Like
- 18:09Speaker 3: there's also a part of it where we don't know
- 18:11Speaker 3: exactly what he was offering to the table. So it's
- 18:16Speaker 3: there's so many a lot of questions, and it really
- 18:20Speaker 3: does and I think that's a frustrating partuct was he
- 18:22Speaker 3: coming in like really under market value for things?
- 18:26Speaker 1: Or were they asking prices too exorbitant? I think he's
- 18:30Speaker 1: right word there, like were they too rich for his blood,
- 18:32Speaker 1: and was it the type of deal where you know,
- 18:34Speaker 1: we could see behind the scenes. It was like, oh,
- 18:37Speaker 1: I understand why he didn't make any move, Like those
- 18:39Speaker 1: four offers on the table were heavily in favor of
- 18:43Speaker 1: the other guys, and I don't want them to make
- 18:45Speaker 1: a trade for the sake of making a trade. You
- 18:47Speaker 1: and I first bonded over I love the NFL draft,
- 18:50Speaker 1: so I want as many picks as possible because I
- 18:52Speaker 1: want a ton of shots at the dance and dart throws.
- 18:54Speaker 1: That is the NFL Draft. But in the expectation I
- 18:58Speaker 1: do really think is what said it because I just, yeah,
- 19:02Speaker 1: I thought the AFC was wide open, and you can't
- 19:06Speaker 1: always believe like the reports you get from the reporters,
- 19:08Speaker 1: so you know, whether nationally, local, whatever. But there were
- 19:10Speaker 1: so many national media who kept pointing out the Bills
- 19:16Speaker 1: are in it, and it was a lot of wide
- 19:17Speaker 1: receiver talk, and I would have taken a wide receiver,
- 19:19Speaker 1: but I would have taken some other positions too. But
- 19:21Speaker 1: there was just so much smoke that it wasn't like, Okay,
- 19:26Speaker 1: these are just rumors, like like I said in the intro,
- 19:28Speaker 1: like there was so much smoke that I was like, well,
- 19:29Speaker 1: this has to be fire, Like they are in on
- 19:32Speaker 1: so many guys, one of them has to come through,
- 19:36Speaker 1: like one. And then then there were like the little
- 19:38Speaker 1: rumblings from people who know people like who are like, hey,
- 19:42Speaker 1: just want to let you know, like I'm not making
- 19:44Speaker 1: this public, but like a big deal is going to happen,
- 19:46Speaker 1: and it's like, oh, like and you add those up,
- 19:47Speaker 1: and I just I don't necessarily count those as much
- 19:50Speaker 1: as the national and professional smoke, but I just I
- 19:53Speaker 1: guess I set myself up for failure, Like I really
- 19:55Speaker 1: did think a move would come through and something would
- 19:58Speaker 1: happen and they would reinforce this team and buttress this roster,
- 20:01Speaker 1: but alas they have not. Kind of let's use that
- 20:04Speaker 1: to kind of jump into the second segment here. You know,
- 20:08Speaker 1: we mentioned a couple of them briefly. What moves did
- 20:11Speaker 1: you want to see? It could have been, you know,
- 20:12Speaker 1: did you want a specific position group addressed or position
- 20:16Speaker 1: or did you want a specific player that was on
- 20:19Speaker 1: the market who was really fast at wide receiver? Maybe?
- 20:22Speaker 1: And where is a cool unique number for a wide receiver?
- 20:26Speaker 1: You know, where where was your head at in terms
- 20:28Speaker 1: of moves that you wanted to see whether you know
- 20:30Speaker 1: position wise or specific guys that you wanted targeted and
- 20:34Speaker 1: brought in.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I told you yesterday and I had a need.
- 20:37Speaker 3: I had a need for Shaheed. We didn't get Shaheed.
- 20:43Speaker 3: I gotta say, man like and.
- 20:45Speaker 1: For the real quick for those who don't know, he
- 20:47Speaker 1: went to the Seahawks for a fourth and fifth round
- 20:50Speaker 1: pick in the upcoming draft.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Yeah, so that was exactly what I was going to
- 20:53Speaker 3: get to.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Is the the compensation, like I think coming into this
- 20:58Speaker 1: trade deadline, Sure, there are a lot of names like
- 21:01Speaker 1: you just mentioned, Oh, the Bills are connected to this guy,
- 21:04Speaker 1: this guy, this guy, Like there's there's smoke here.
- 21:06Speaker 3: You could see this being real, But when push came
- 21:09Speaker 3: to shove, like the Bills only had so much cap space,
- 21:13Speaker 3: the Bill's only Realistically, even my comments on Bean's comments
- 21:17Speaker 3: from the summer, I don't see them making a big
- 21:19Speaker 3: splash at wide receiver because that's really walking the take back.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Oh, absolutely right and honestly doesn't make too much Like
- 21:27Speaker 1: I would love a true one in this offense, But
- 21:30Speaker 1: I also understand the need for not spending on that
- 21:33Speaker 1: because you are a run first team based off of
- 21:36Speaker 1: heavier personnel formation and alignment. But again then also was
- 21:40Speaker 1: kind of like, why I wanted a guy like Shaheed
- 21:41Speaker 1: because I thought his skill set was the perfect skill
- 21:43Speaker 1: set to elevate the room while still being a run
- 21:47Speaker 1: centric offense. Continue I'm sorry exactly.
- 21:49Speaker 3: So that's the thing, Like all of these names were
- 21:52Speaker 3: on the table, but once Shahed was taken off the table,
- 21:56Speaker 3: I was trying to find a pivot at the wide
- 21:58Speaker 3: receiver position, and I'm like, just nothing's realistic here, Like,
- 22:01Speaker 3: I just I don't think there's anything realistic. They're not
- 22:04Speaker 3: gonna go after Calvin Ridley. That number is too high,
- 22:07Speaker 3: and just to get that number down, they're gonna have
- 22:09Speaker 3: to give more for the Titans to take on that salary.
- 22:12Speaker 3: And then BTJ, that's way too much draft capital that
- 22:16Speaker 3: it's gonna take to get Brian Thomas.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Uh. I also thought with the Brian Thomas conversation, so
- 22:21Speaker 1: many people were like, yeah, he's still so young and
- 22:24Speaker 1: so much upside and this and that, and then I
- 22:26Speaker 1: was like, on the other hand, I was like, so,
- 22:28Speaker 1: why would the Jags trade him? Right, Like, why I don't.
- 22:31Speaker 3: It would literally just be a regime thing that wouldn't
- 22:34Speaker 3: be the only reason.
- 22:35Speaker 1: And you're still not gonna They're not gonna give him
- 22:37Speaker 1: up for nothing. Yeah, I think the report was too
- 22:42Speaker 1: Yeah two ones was. I think the report probably unofficial
- 22:46Speaker 1: report that came out, But yeah, like the Bills were
- 22:49Speaker 1: never gonna do that because, like I said, that's like
- 22:51Speaker 1: really walking the take back that being had in the
- 22:54Speaker 1: off season, So like nothing felt realistic and to your point, like,
- 22:59Speaker 1: would I have loved something like Chris o'lave, Yeah, it
- 23:03Speaker 1: would have been great, but it takes away from the
- 23:05Speaker 1: entire philosophy of what we've built here, where it's like
- 23:09Speaker 1: we're building this wide receiver room in the aggregate and
- 23:12Speaker 1: the second you get that guy, he's going to demand targets.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I mean, olave is what top three right now in
- 23:18Speaker 1: the NFL and targets, Yeah, it's crazy and like a
- 23:20Speaker 1: super low like average target. Everything is like super tiny.
- 23:24Speaker 3: Is he turned into Wandale Robinson's dude?
- 23:26Speaker 1: He every game he's got like it's like ten catches
- 23:28Speaker 1: eighty four yards.
- 23:29Speaker 3: It's it's wild, But but that's kind of the thing.
- 23:31Speaker 3: It's like you have to match this with the philosophy
- 23:34Speaker 3: of the offense, and I think the perfect cross section
- 23:38Speaker 3: of what the Bills needed. They needed verticality, but they
- 23:40Speaker 3: also needed someone who could separate against man at all
- 23:44Speaker 3: levels of the field, Like he has the agility and
- 23:46Speaker 3: the speed to do so. So it made sense. And
- 23:49Speaker 3: then on top of that, the compensation wasn't too crazy.
- 23:52Speaker 3: You said fourth and fifth, Like, sure, the Bills throw
- 23:55Speaker 3: a fourth, fifth and a future sixth, Like technically that's
- 23:59Speaker 3: a better deal. They're getting another draft pick and that's
- 24:03Speaker 3: not too crazy expensive. So it's like, I really would
- 24:06Speaker 3: have liked to see that. And then I think the
- 24:08Speaker 3: other one would have been Draymont Jones, sneaky. I didn't
- 24:12Speaker 3: think about it until I saw the trade, but then
- 24:15Speaker 3: I saw the name and I was like, wow, that
- 24:17Speaker 3: that actually makes a lot of sense. One for the Ravens.
- 24:20Speaker 3: Good deal for the Ravens. But two, he's a very
- 24:25Speaker 3: versatile player on the front, Like he doesn't fit the
- 24:27Speaker 3: traditional front that the Bills play, but when they lost Hoyt,
- 24:31Speaker 3: it kind of makes sense in a way where he
- 24:34Speaker 3: does some interior rush, but he he's one of those
- 24:38Speaker 3: heavier guys, so like sometimes he lines up on the edge.
- 24:41Speaker 3: He's typically more of an odd front player. But if
- 24:43Speaker 3: you wanted to get creative with your front, says the
- 24:45Speaker 3: bills were trying to do. He was someone who could
- 24:50Speaker 3: do some of that stuff, but I don't think he
- 24:52Speaker 3: was ever gonna be like dropping into coverage the way
- 24:54Speaker 3: Hoyit could in theory, so like there was gonna be limitation,
- 24:58Speaker 3: but he could in theory give you some give you
- 25:02Speaker 3: some help on the interior, but also give you some
- 25:04Speaker 3: versatility on the front, which I thought was appealing. And
- 25:07Speaker 3: the compensation, what was that a conditional fit that could
- 25:10Speaker 3: turn into a fourth for Draymont Jones? Yes, so like
- 25:14Speaker 3: that was reasonable, Like that would have been I'd like it.
- 25:18Speaker 3: And it's at a position of need, so yeah, I
- 25:22Speaker 3: guess the conversation there turns to, like what do you
- 25:24Speaker 3: think about the reinforcements? So is that worth it? Like
- 25:27Speaker 3: we know we have so many guys coming back, Like
- 25:29Speaker 3: if Daikon comes back, we need him less when TJ
- 25:32Speaker 3: comes back, Like we want TJ to get time on task.
- 25:35Speaker 3: So there's a conversation there to kind of layer that
- 25:38Speaker 3: whole thing, But it really starts and ends with Shied
- 25:42Speaker 3: because it was the perfect cross section for what this
- 25:45Speaker 3: team needed, what they would have to get up give
- 25:48Speaker 3: up to get him, and what he could do for
- 25:51Speaker 3: the missing pieces of this offense without taking away too
- 25:53Speaker 3: much from what the offense already does. Well, that's fair,
- 25:56Speaker 3: that's fair.
- 25:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna grab a super chat real quick because I
- 25:59Speaker 1: wanted super cheat, but also if it's perfectly and thank
- 26:01Speaker 1: you very much for being here, Thank you very much
- 26:02Speaker 1: the super chat. The comment is not even mad about
- 26:05Speaker 1: wide receiver. It is what it is. But we are
- 26:06Speaker 1: an injury away from relying on practice squad d lineman
- 26:10Speaker 1: bringing us to the promised land. The D line one,
- 26:13Speaker 1: I think is so, I almost speak about that in
- 26:15Speaker 1: a minute, like the defensive line one is so. I
- 26:19Speaker 1: don't want to say like threading a needle, but like
- 26:23Speaker 1: you have a need right now, but like on the
- 26:27Speaker 1: interior mostly, but how much are you gonna have that
- 26:30Speaker 1: need like three or four weeks from now? You know,
- 26:32Speaker 1: like once Daykon's back, once TJ. Sanders is back, Like
- 26:35Speaker 1: you're hoping to get out Oliver back on playoffs, but
- 26:38Speaker 1: once you get day Kwon and Sanders back, you're really
- 26:43Speaker 1: only missing at Oliver. Now I can understand the conversation
- 26:46Speaker 1: piece because it's like, well, next year, Ogunjobi's gone, Daykon,
- 26:51Speaker 1: is it Ogunjoby and Daykon are both UFAs next year.
- 26:54Speaker 1: But then you're still sitting there with like Ed, you've
- 26:56Speaker 1: got Deon Walker, You've got TJ. Sanders, like you've got
- 26:59Speaker 1: in theory, like a solid top three, depending on what
- 27:01Speaker 1: you think of t J. Sanders. But I think, like
- 27:04Speaker 1: this comment is fair, like the injuries that potentially happen
- 27:07Speaker 1: on the defensive line. But then I'm also like, okay,
- 27:10Speaker 1: so how but how much are you going to give
- 27:11Speaker 1: up for kind of like injury protection if you're kind
- 27:14Speaker 1: of paying for a safety net more so than anything.
- 27:17Speaker 1: And I knew, so I knew that's where like defensive
- 27:19Speaker 1: line was muddy. I wanted some reinforcement up front, but
- 27:23Speaker 1: I could understand them, not because of the guys who
- 27:25Speaker 1: are potentially returning what you've invested there already, cap space,
- 27:29Speaker 1: draft picks, what you have, what you don't have, all
- 27:31Speaker 1: that conversation. But I think this is, you know, a
- 27:33Speaker 1: fair point, and I appreciate you're making that, Thank you
- 27:36Speaker 1: very much. But I receiver is the one for me,
- 27:40Speaker 1: even though you know mister Yanni wasn't mad about wide receiver.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Receiver for the for me really was the one that
- 27:45Speaker 1: I thought was most realistic just because of what you've
- 27:50Speaker 1: gotten at that position now. And I know Shahid was
- 27:52Speaker 1: a UFA or is a UFA next year what the
- 27:55Speaker 1: Seahawks gave up, but yeah, I just thought it was
- 27:58Speaker 1: a low risk investment. I also personally thought, you know,
- 28:02Speaker 1: when watching his tape, I was talking to you today
- 28:05Speaker 1: about her, maybe the day before. I don't remember it.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Like he he's obviously a vertical threat, and everybody knows
- 28:09Speaker 1: that's verticality the speed, but he's good at using that
- 28:12Speaker 1: verticality to like snap routes off and find space in
- 28:15Speaker 1: the intermediate and the underneath. He had a route against
- 28:17Speaker 1: the John Brown, yeah fair. He had a route against
- 28:21Speaker 1: the Giants earlier this year where he's in a stack
- 28:25Speaker 1: and Giants ram man coverage and he sells like he's
- 28:29Speaker 1: running a slot fade and he outside releases, hits that
- 28:33Speaker 1: next gear, gets the corner to turn up field, and
- 28:36Speaker 1: then he just slams on the brake, snaps it off
- 28:38Speaker 1: and runs like a deep a deep stop route and
- 28:41Speaker 1: is wide open. And I was just like ooh, Like
- 28:43Speaker 1: it was the gear change with the sticky feet and
- 28:46Speaker 1: the separation. I was like, oh, so like some underneath
- 28:49Speaker 1: stuff in addition to just the deep threat stuff, and
- 28:52Speaker 1: I thought that was just such a good fit, potentially
- 28:54Speaker 1: low risk, low cost. Again, we talked about what he
- 28:57Speaker 1: ended up going for, and I know they don't bills
- 28:59Speaker 1: don't aren't low did with picks next year like they were,
- 29:02Speaker 1: you know, the actually the past couple of seasons where
- 29:05Speaker 1: they've had like ten picks year, it feels like. But
- 29:09Speaker 1: I still think something needs to be done at receiver.
- 29:11Speaker 1: And I know Palmer is coming back. I just have
- 29:15Speaker 1: this big fear and maybe this is just paranoid that
- 29:17Speaker 1: exists within me. I just look at the receiver room,
- 29:19Speaker 1: and I think, when you are going to face those
- 29:22Speaker 1: better teams with the corners, with athletic corners, or teams
- 29:26Speaker 1: that are just confident in their dudes over the top
- 29:28Speaker 1: and on the outside, sooner or later, you are going
- 29:30Speaker 1: to have to win on the outside and you're going
- 29:32Speaker 1: to have to win vertically. Now, Oh, you and I
- 29:34Speaker 1: were talking about this, I think early. I don't know
- 29:36Speaker 1: if it was really today, yesterday. Everything's blurred into one day.
- 29:39Speaker 1: We were talking about, you know, feeling better about the
- 29:40Speaker 1: offense after the Chiefs game, if they can continue to
- 29:43Speaker 1: create explosives from heavy personnel like they did against Kansas City,
- 29:48Speaker 1: my concerned receiver starts to dissipate a little bit. If
- 29:51Speaker 1: you can continue to get shots with heavier personnel, which
- 29:56Speaker 1: is something we've clamored for for years ever since they
- 29:59Speaker 1: got it they brought in Kincaid. I am fine with
- 30:02Speaker 1: the receivers they have because I think Palmer can do enough. Shakir.
- 30:06Speaker 1: You can spam balls to Shakira all day. Coleman, We'll see.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Samuel I think is good for one to two deep shots.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Maybe a game. Maybe Elijah Moore fits into that boat.
- 30:16Speaker 1: But if you can create explosives with Kincaid and Knox,
- 30:19Speaker 1: even Hawes at some point for like a little tight
- 30:22Speaker 1: end leak or a delay and he catches something around
- 30:24Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage and goes for twelve to fifteen yards,
- 30:27Speaker 1: if you can keep creating chunks out of heavy personnel,
- 30:30Speaker 1: I'm somewhat okay here. And maybe that's what they think.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Maybe that's what they saw. They saw the success maybe
- 30:36Speaker 1: they had against Kansas City, and they were like, again,
- 30:38Speaker 1: going back to what we said in the first segment,
- 30:40Speaker 1: we're not even one hundred percent, and look what we
- 30:43Speaker 1: were able to do. Let's continue to lean on the
- 30:45Speaker 1: offensive line, continue to lean on James Cook, continue to
- 30:48Speaker 1: lean on Josh Allen. The receivers will kind of sort
- 30:51Speaker 1: themselves out as auxiliary pieces and complimentary players. I guess
- 30:56Speaker 1: my biggest concern with it really comes from I think
- 31:00Speaker 1: on the whole, this Bills team in general is completely fine.
- 31:05Speaker 1: I think they're good enough to do what they've done
- 31:07Speaker 1: the past several years. You get to the playoffs, you're
- 31:09Speaker 1: a final four team overall, or final four team in
- 31:11Speaker 1: the conference. It's matchup base, so you can see what happens.
- 31:16Speaker 1: But I just don't think and I don't think anyone
- 31:18Speaker 1: is matchup proof in the AFC. But I don't think
- 31:20Speaker 1: the Bills are matchup proof enough for me to feel
- 31:22Speaker 1: holistically confident in them getting past anybody in AFC. And
- 31:26Speaker 1: I don't think that's a reasonable expectation to have, where
- 31:28Speaker 1: you think your team needs to be completely bulletproof and
- 31:30Speaker 1: one hundred percent protected everywhere. Yeah, but I thought there
- 31:33Speaker 1: were some moves that could be made at the deadline
- 31:35Speaker 1: that would mitigate how vulnerable they were in some areas.
- 31:39Speaker 1: And I think again that the most realistic one I
- 31:44Speaker 1: thought that could be seen was wide receiver, just because
- 31:47Speaker 1: of Again, I really wanted Cam Taylor Britt, especially a
- 31:51Speaker 1: couple of weeks ago. But then Harriston came back. He's
- 31:53Speaker 1: looked good, fingers crossed, no jinks, and I was like, Okay,
- 31:56Speaker 1: they're probably gonna roll with a platoon of Harston and Trey,
- 31:59Speaker 1: and I don't actually think that it's terrible. I'm okay
- 32:01Speaker 1: with that. I wanted to safety a couple of weeks ago,
- 32:03Speaker 1: even though I thought that was really unrealistic because good
- 32:06Speaker 1: safeties nobody's moving. A good safety like that just isn't.
- 32:09Speaker 1: That doesn't happen really in the NFL. The closest you're
- 32:11Speaker 1: gonna get is what a Moni Hooker I think went
- 32:13Speaker 1: to New England right from Tennessee.
- 32:16Speaker 3: I don't know if that was. I don't know if
- 32:18Speaker 3: that was. Was that today, I.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Don't know that was. Let me confirm, Oh no, he didn't.
- 32:26Speaker 1: He's still there. Okay, so that was a fake R.
- 32:28Speaker 3: I was gonna say, Quandre.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Bear, oh, Quander Diggs. So like, good teams don't move
- 32:35Speaker 1: or good safeties don't really get moved. So I thought
- 32:36Speaker 1: that was more pie in the skuy. But Poyer and
- 32:39Speaker 1: Hancock have been a decent platoon. I've liked the little
- 32:42Speaker 1: bits and pieces we've seen from Hancock, and honestly, a
- 32:44Speaker 1: bishop can continue this upward trend. I'm less concerned about
- 32:46Speaker 1: safety in general, so I didn't really think they'd make
- 32:48Speaker 1: a move with safety. Corner was gonna be weird anyway,
- 32:51Speaker 1: Like are you taking a flyer on a guy that
- 32:54Speaker 1: is just going to be here this year because Harrison's
- 32:56Speaker 1: going to be your corner two going forward next year,
- 32:58Speaker 1: so you're really trying to maybe thread a needle there.
- 33:00Speaker 1: We talked about defensive line stuff. I really thought receiver
- 33:03Speaker 1: was the sweet spot, and I would have taken Jacoby Myers.
- 33:06Speaker 1: I would have taken Rashid Shahed and I thought there,
- 33:10Speaker 1: and I know there's some redundancy with you know, Myer's
- 33:13Speaker 1: names Shakir, but Meyers is such a good separator against man,
- 33:16Speaker 1: He's such a good route runner. He's also a really
- 33:18Speaker 1: good blocker. I just thought that's where they could have
- 33:21Speaker 1: increased or decreased their vulnerability the most. And it would
- 33:24Speaker 1: have been a nice little drop in the bucket with
- 33:26Speaker 1: the wide receiver room and with how this offense functions,
- 33:29Speaker 1: which in turn would have helped the defense, And that's
- 33:32Speaker 1: really kind of where I'm sitting at at this point,
- 33:35Speaker 1: unless they did something crazy and they were like, hey, Tennessee,
- 33:37Speaker 1: you guys are having a fire sale. Here's a first
- 33:39Speaker 1: and a second for Jeffrey Simmons. I also, I also
- 33:43Speaker 1: would have loved Tovandre Sweat, but yeah, Manly wasn't moving him.
- 33:48Speaker 3: I also Tennessee did as weird, like I'm surprised he
- 33:50Speaker 3: didn't get rid of more like I don't know that
- 33:53Speaker 3: that's a separate conversation.
- 33:54Speaker 1: They've been weird for years, Like you trade aj Brown
- 33:57Speaker 1: and then you fire for Abel because he's not getting
- 33:58Speaker 1: it done. After you essentially got rid of like all
- 34:00Speaker 1: his best guys and things fell apart around him, Like
- 34:02Speaker 1: I don't know what they're doing there. I did also
- 34:04Speaker 1: want Sweat. Tennessee was again apparently you know, according to
- 34:07Speaker 1: the reports, not willing to move him. Initially he was
- 34:10Speaker 1: on the block when then kind of off the block.
- 34:12Speaker 1: I also don't think again he was a scheme fit
- 34:14Speaker 1: for the Bills. I didn't think he was a scheme
- 34:16Speaker 1: fit coming out of Texas. Part of me thought he
- 34:18Speaker 1: might be because there were the tyleek Williams rumors this
- 34:20Speaker 1: past draft, but really it came down to like some
- 34:24Speaker 1: slight pie in the sky there on the interior defensive line,
- 34:26Speaker 1: but really a wide receiver. And that's really kind of
- 34:28Speaker 1: what I wanted to see.
- 34:29Speaker 3: The ironic thing the conversation you were just having about
- 34:33Speaker 3: mitigating weaknesses on your team, Like, despite how good you are,
- 34:36Speaker 3: you're just trying to mitigate weaknesses at the trade deadline.
- 34:38Speaker 3: That's exactly what the Seahawks did by getting The Seahawks
- 34:42Speaker 3: are great, like they have Cooper Cup. They've been getting
- 34:45Speaker 3: good contributions from Tory Horton, who they also stole from
- 34:48Speaker 3: the Bills. And you and I that's another one too.
- 34:52Speaker 1: You and I were texted so much on day three
- 34:54Speaker 1: of the draft being like, you know Tory Horton to
- 34:56Speaker 1: every round we were like Tory Horton to.
- 34:58Speaker 3: I was like, Tory Horton, was that not three picks
- 35:00Speaker 3: before the Bill's next selection. I'm pretty sure they took Horton,
- 35:04Speaker 3: like within ten picks from the building.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Be sure. I scrubbed that day from my memory because
- 35:09Speaker 1: they didn't get Tory Horton.
- 35:11Speaker 3: So regardless, point being like the Seahawks, they know what
- 35:15Speaker 3: they want and well because their best receiver was at
- 35:18Speaker 3: the time perceived as a slot receiver. Bill's same problem,
- 35:21Speaker 3: and they go get Tory Horton, guy we wanted, and
- 35:25Speaker 3: then we they come into the season with similar problems.
- 35:28Speaker 3: A guy isn't progressing at the level that they need
- 35:31Speaker 3: his contributions. Tory Horton, Bills Keyon Coleman, and they need reinforcements.
- 35:38Speaker 3: They go after Shaheed we don't. And on top of this,
- 35:40Speaker 3: I just looked this up. How poetic would it have
- 35:43Speaker 3: been for the Bills to restructure tarn Johnson only to
- 35:49Speaker 3: use that new cap space to trade for his prior
- 35:52Speaker 3: teammate at Weaber State, Rashi Ji heat Oh.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Nice call. I wanted to grab this comment real quick
- 36:01Speaker 1: from the chat. Matthew said, Shaheed's skill set is fairly
- 36:05Speaker 1: redundant with those of Palmer, more In, Samuel, all of
- 36:07Speaker 1: who have been under used. No, I don't think so,
- 36:09Speaker 1: but I wanted to give you the floor to talk
- 36:11Speaker 1: about Shaheed's skill set first.
- 36:13Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, I don't think so. I think, if anything,
- 36:15Speaker 3: he would be most redundant with probably Palmer of all
- 36:20Speaker 3: of those, but I.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Think so much faster.
- 36:22Speaker 3: Yeah, he could go down. I honestly I think Shaheed
- 36:24Speaker 3: would have unlocked Palmer in a lot of ways. It
- 36:27Speaker 3: would have allowed Palmer to work more in the intermediate
- 36:30Speaker 3: where I think he's most comfortable. He can do stuff deep,
- 36:35Speaker 3: but like I think he's at his best on like
- 36:38Speaker 3: deep ends or just anything really in the ten to
- 36:41Speaker 3: nineteen yard range. And then more in Samuel, I mean,
- 36:45Speaker 3: based on the offense and how they're being utilized, they're
- 36:48Speaker 3: being utilized as gadget players outside of Yes, I guess
- 36:51Speaker 3: what we saw this past week from More Apparently he
- 36:54Speaker 3: was getting some more deeper routes called for him this
- 36:57Speaker 3: past week.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Had a nice little catch on the Uh. They the
- 37:00Speaker 1: same the flag right, Yeah, that ugly. They ran the
- 37:03Speaker 1: same thing against Carolina with the little hook from the
- 37:06Speaker 1: tight end and an out route from Shakir and Alan
- 37:09Speaker 1: didn't have it. Was one of the players where Alan
- 37:10Speaker 1: got sacked. He had the ball for super long against
- 37:12Speaker 1: Carolina and he got sacked. This time they switched it.
- 37:15Speaker 1: They ran it from a tight bunch and Moore ran
- 37:18Speaker 1: the corner route. Instead of being the number three, he
- 37:20Speaker 1: ran it from as the two on the line in
- 37:23Speaker 1: the tight bunch. The spacing was better and things worked out,
- 37:26Speaker 1: but Yeah, he made that nice catchy and again he's
- 37:28Speaker 1: got some speed.
- 37:29Speaker 3: I just.
- 37:30Speaker 1: And he could be utilized differently. Like the whole point
- 37:33Speaker 1: here is like from a skill set perspective, she he'd
- 37:36Speaker 1: offer something that no one on the Bills have, Like
- 37:39Speaker 1: the Bills don't have anyone on this team.
- 37:41Speaker 3: And I said it earlier into the mic, was was
- 37:44Speaker 3: John Brown.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Horton was four picks ahead, a handscock, four picks here
- 37:48Speaker 1: you go, Well, then thank.
- 37:50Speaker 3: You chat again coming through, Yeah, John Brown, Like it's
- 37:54Speaker 3: very similar where he's going to threaten you with his
- 37:56Speaker 3: vertical stem, but he can break it off and be
- 37:59Speaker 3: a threat at any point in that stem, and we
- 38:01Speaker 3: don't have a player that can really do that. Palmer's
- 38:04Speaker 3: the closest thing to that, but I don't think we're
- 38:08Speaker 3: best utilizing him to do that. And I think they're
- 38:11Speaker 3: they're trying to get Coleman to do that, but no
- 38:13Speaker 3: one's really threatened by Coleman actually stacking them.
- 38:16Speaker 1: So I don't know if anybody's threatened by Coleman with
- 38:18Speaker 1: anything at this point.
- 38:19Speaker 3: Period, right, But you know, a point being like the
- 38:21Speaker 3: skill set of stacking a corner, like no one's afraid
- 38:24Speaker 3: of that for anyone on the Bills roster, and that's
- 38:26Speaker 3: something Shahid can do. And then once you get afraid
- 38:29Speaker 3: of that, there's a lot of counter punches off of that.
- 38:31Speaker 3: So I think he just would have opened a lot
- 38:33Speaker 3: of things up for the entire offense. It would have
- 38:36Speaker 3: opened a lot of things up for the entire wide
- 38:38Speaker 3: receiver room. It probably would have made the gadget stuff
- 38:41Speaker 3: from more and Samuel a little bit more effective. Same
- 38:44Speaker 3: with Shakir, probably would have allowed Coleman to settle into
- 38:47Speaker 3: a role that's more suitable for where he is in
- 38:49Speaker 3: his development. I just think there's a lot of things
- 38:52Speaker 3: that he would have done for the team because in
- 38:56Speaker 3: my opinion, he just wasn't redundant to anything we had
- 38:59Speaker 3: in the wide receiver that this would have been extremely
- 39:01Speaker 3: complimentary in my opinion.
- 39:03Speaker 1: I agree. I think I've said this since Curtis Samuel
- 39:06Speaker 1: came on. Like Curtis Samuel's fast, I don't think he
- 39:08Speaker 1: plays as fast as his time speed is, which is
- 39:10Speaker 1: like four to three something fast. No, once he gets
- 39:16Speaker 1: into his good his stride, he's he's golden. I think
- 39:19Speaker 1: s Heat is twitchier than Curtis Samuel and a better
- 39:22Speaker 1: route runner than Curtis Samuel. I think he's got better
- 39:25Speaker 1: long speed than more similar with and more twitchy, but
- 39:29Speaker 1: I think more actually might be a better route runner
- 39:30Speaker 1: than Palmer. I think that your point was super spot on.
- 39:35Speaker 1: I think Palmer's best. And I've said this throughout the
- 39:38Speaker 1: entire offseason because people were thrown out like, oh, according
- 39:41Speaker 1: to this metric or this site, like Josh Palmer's like
- 39:44Speaker 1: the fourth best deep threat in the NFL or something
- 39:47Speaker 1: like that, and I think that got conflated with like
- 39:49Speaker 1: his speed and verticality. He can win deep defend fast, yes,
- 39:54Speaker 1: but when he wins deep, it's more due to deception
- 39:57Speaker 1: in his stem, his route running how he wins even
- 39:59Speaker 1: look at the the deep shot against Atlanta. That's more
- 40:03Speaker 1: concept than anything. Actually, it's funny. It goes into the
- 40:06Speaker 1: meta times like can be quarters over the top type
- 40:08Speaker 1: of conversation that safety nails down on the dig I
- 40:12Speaker 1: think coming from the other side, and then Palmer runs
- 40:15Speaker 1: the post, so the outside is that exactly has no
- 40:17Speaker 1: more help on the inside and they get beat over
- 40:20Speaker 1: the top and Palmer's right there. Now. Yes, Palmer ran
- 40:23Speaker 1: by Hughes did his job, but the scheme kind of
- 40:26Speaker 1: opened that up.
- 40:27Speaker 3: But to that point, you'd probably prefer that player to
- 40:30Speaker 3: be Shaheed exactly.
- 40:32Speaker 1: I would prefer that player to be Shaheed, and then
- 40:34Speaker 1: and the dig to be Palmer exactly. And that allows
- 40:37Speaker 1: Palmer even more work in the areas where like you said,
- 40:40Speaker 1: and I completely co sign this, he's at his best
- 40:43Speaker 1: working and separating in the underneath in the intermediate. He
- 40:46Speaker 1: can win vertical from time to time, but it's more
- 40:48Speaker 1: due to stem work deception and which he is good at.
- 40:51Speaker 1: He's a good route runner, he's good at selling A
- 40:54Speaker 1: and then he's actually buying B. You know. It's a
- 40:56Speaker 1: nice skill set that he operates with. But yeah, I
- 41:00Speaker 1: think Shaheed Shaheed is your take the top off the
- 41:03Speaker 1: defense guy. I don't think they have that in someone else.
- 41:06Speaker 1: And he's to take the top off the defense guy.
- 41:08Speaker 1: In the blink of an eye, I thought a lave
- 41:11Speaker 1: operates in that vein as well. But I thought he
- 41:14Speaker 1: was gonna cost too much because I still think Chris
- 41:16Speaker 1: o'lave has wide receiver one like true wide receiver YEA
- 41:19Speaker 1: side and potential. But it was two things for me.
- 41:21Speaker 1: One I thought he would cost more. Two the concussion
- 41:25Speaker 1: history and just the injury history in general worries, yes,
- 41:29Speaker 1: and especially with knowing how Coop. You mentioned this earlier,
- 41:33Speaker 1: like was being like gunshy because of what happened with
- 41:36Speaker 1: Cooper last year. That made me think, like, does that
- 41:39Speaker 1: lower the odds they go after someone like a Lave
- 41:41Speaker 1: because he already has an injury history, and they're like,
- 41:43Speaker 1: we don't want this to happen again, so maybe let's
- 41:46Speaker 1: go after someone else. Like I know so many people
- 41:48Speaker 1: are looking at the Saints wide receivers, but I thought
- 41:52Speaker 1: Olave was less realistic because I thought he would cost more,
- 41:56Speaker 1: but he was I thought he had true wide receiver
- 41:58Speaker 1: one potential where Shaheed I think more is a complimentary player,
- 42:01Speaker 1: but his complimentary skill set is something that's needed in
- 42:05Speaker 1: this offense. And I do think this is a fair
- 42:06Speaker 1: comment as well from sessmin Ivy said, but I shied
- 42:09Speaker 1: worth a third and a fifth slash six because if
- 42:11Speaker 1: it's a fourth and a fifth from both, you would
- 42:14Speaker 1: take the Seahawks' picks every theory. Yeah, in theory. I
- 42:18Speaker 1: think that's a fair point as well. Again, that's also
- 42:20Speaker 1: part of what goes into what I said in the
- 42:22Speaker 1: beginning of why it's I you know, I do think
- 42:25Speaker 1: it's a failure of not getting things done. But it's
- 42:27Speaker 1: also tough to call it that because again, you offer
- 42:30Speaker 1: a and another team offers. If you and if you
- 42:33Speaker 1: and another team are both offering the same picks, the
- 42:36Speaker 1: receiving team is going to be like.
- 42:37Speaker 3: Well, who's worse? Who you think it's gonna crumble?
- 42:40Speaker 1: We think those picks are going to be better, so
- 42:42Speaker 1: we're gonna take that one. So yeah, hey, Buffalo, you're
- 42:45Speaker 1: willing to give us, you know, a fourth and a fifth,
- 42:48Speaker 1: so is Seattle. But Seattle's fourth and a fifth is
- 42:50Speaker 1: probably gonna be better than your fourth and a fifth.
- 42:52Speaker 1: So do you want to give a Seattle's playing really
- 42:54Speaker 1: well right now, And that's what's making this whole conversation tough.
- 42:58Speaker 1: Like when I look at and I see what Seattle gave,
- 43:01Speaker 1: and I see how Seattle's cooking right now, Ye go
- 43:04Speaker 1: to the Super Bowl. They're not healthy on defense, very cooking.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Very realistically could be the representatives from the NFC, and
- 43:12Speaker 3: those picks are very similar, Like why couldn't it have
- 43:15Speaker 3: been a fourth, a fifth and a seventh? Like all
- 43:19Speaker 3: you have to do is just tack on to what
- 43:21Speaker 3: Seattle gave and it's in theory better because you get
- 43:23Speaker 3: more bites of the apple. Like I don't know what
- 43:26Speaker 3: what the Saints would actually fit on, but I don't know.
- 43:30Speaker 3: To me, I don't even know if they had to
- 43:31Speaker 3: upgrade to a third. I don't know if they really
- 43:34Speaker 3: had to. I think they might have just had to.
- 43:35Speaker 3: That's a tough or anything like that.
- 43:37Speaker 1: And again that goes in the variable conversation, like we
- 43:39Speaker 1: don't we just have just those peaks behind the curtain.
- 43:41Speaker 1: We don't know, you know, if that if the Bills
- 43:44Speaker 1: even offered for shyeah, don't plealy out on him from
- 43:47Speaker 1: the beginning. So this is all completely like a useless conversation.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Or maybe they were maybe they wouldn't give up two picks.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Maybe they were like, we're only going to give a
- 43:55Speaker 1: fourth and that's it, and then Seattle came back and
- 43:58Speaker 1: was like we'll give a f as well. Maybe yeah,
- 44:01Speaker 1: maybe the Saints came back and we're like, hey, we
- 44:03Speaker 1: got a fourth and fifth from Seattle, what do you
- 44:04Speaker 1: think And the being was like, no.
- 44:05Speaker 3: It just cuts too rare.
- 44:06Speaker 1: Yeah, we're out.
- 44:07Speaker 3: It's understandable. You know, one thing we haven't even touched on,
- 44:11Speaker 3: not to even like pile on on how much this hurts.
- 44:13Speaker 3: But she also offers stuff as a returner, and the
- 44:18Speaker 3: Bills are trying to find how to be more efficient
- 44:21Speaker 3: with their roster spots, and they don't know what to
- 44:24Speaker 3: do with condracton Codrington because he's just a returner and
- 44:27Speaker 3: can't offer anything on.
- 44:29Speaker 1: I didn't think he would make the roster because of that,
- 44:31Speaker 1: Like I thought.
- 44:32Speaker 3: They like, they're trying to do everything they can to
- 44:35Speaker 3: be efficient with that returner spot. They want more than
- 44:37Speaker 3: just a pure returner. He offered that, but yeah, just
- 44:42Speaker 3: couldn't couldn't strike the balance, couldn't get the right deal,
- 44:45Speaker 3: or didn't offer the deal for all we know.
- 44:47Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe free. Yeah, I really just thought he would
- 44:49Speaker 1: have fit the bill as vertical presence, take the top off,
- 44:53Speaker 1: separate on the outside as well, separate on a bunch
- 44:55Speaker 1: of other things, and really kind of open or expand
- 44:58Speaker 1: the offense a little bit more. Granted, is probably going
- 45:00Speaker 1: to be a one year rental, but maybe he's sweet
- 45:03Speaker 1: and he signed him.
- 45:04Speaker 3: Instead of resigned him. Man, it's it's on the table
- 45:06Speaker 3: like it is on the table.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Because you are sitting here and I've done this so
- 45:12Speaker 1: many times and have forgotten about it each time you're
- 45:16Speaker 1: sitting here, Curtis, Samuel is under contract next season as well.
- 45:22Speaker 1: But if you b BA a pre June first cut,
- 45:31Speaker 1: you have a dead cap of three point four million,
- 45:33Speaker 1: but you save six point two. If you designate him
- 45:37Speaker 1: as a post June first cut, you save eight million
- 45:40Speaker 1: next year, and then you can spread that dead cap
- 45:42Speaker 1: hit to one point seven and twenty twenty six and
- 45:45Speaker 1: one point seven in twenty twenty seven. I really think
- 45:48Speaker 1: he's just going to be a cap casualty next year,
- 45:51Speaker 1: just with what they've gotten from him. I'll cecil time
- 45:54Speaker 1: to perfectly saying Samuel can be cut after the season.
- 45:56Speaker 1: So I also look at it as in terms of
- 46:01Speaker 1: like getting the receiver that you need. You know, maybe
- 46:04Speaker 1: maybe this year is the draft where they go wide
- 46:06Speaker 1: receiver in the first round or something, but based on
- 46:10Speaker 1: the offensive line shaking out this offseason to that maybe
- 46:12Speaker 1: they don't bring Edwards back. Is Alec Anderson the guy.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Maybe they're taking a guard at the end of the
- 46:16Speaker 1: first round, or I don't know, maybe it's a linebacker,
- 46:21Speaker 1: or maybe it is a safety. Because the Hancock ends
- 46:24Speaker 1: up not being the guy and he falters a little
- 46:26Speaker 1: bit I think you can make the case that it
- 46:28Speaker 1: probably would be a wide receiver, but.
- 46:31Speaker 3: But this would help you. It's the same thing as
- 46:34Speaker 3: being trying to find as many solutions as he can
- 46:36Speaker 3: in the free agency so he doesn't feel pigeonholed into
- 46:40Speaker 3: what he has to do in the first round exactly like,
- 46:42Speaker 3: and by getting shakied, you give yourself the option to
- 46:46Speaker 3: shop whatever position in the first round instead of feeling, oh,
- 46:49Speaker 3: I have to go wide receiver here.
- 46:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and you get shaheat in the door. Now. It
- 46:54Speaker 1: gives you the option of being like, okay, like we
- 46:56Speaker 1: feel comfortable offering him this and free agency because we
- 46:59Speaker 1: know what kind of guy he is, as we know
- 47:00Speaker 1: what he offered the team, like, maybe he sticks around,
- 47:02Speaker 1: they re sign him, they cut hurt to Samuel Elijah
- 47:05Speaker 1: Moore probably is not on this team like at this
- 47:08Speaker 1: time next year. So you're looking at your wide receiver room,
- 47:10Speaker 1: and your wide receiver room is just Palmer, Coleman, Shakir
- 47:14Speaker 1: that has to get upgraded in somehow, in some way, form, shape, fashion,
- 47:19Speaker 1: whatever kind of verbidge you're using. I'm still like completely
- 47:22Speaker 1: outlinekey on Coleman. I know a lot of folks, no
- 47:24Speaker 1: are I don't even want to open Pandora's box on
- 47:28Speaker 1: that conversation. Again, I think this whole. I think anyone
- 47:32Speaker 1: can feel any way they want. If you are sitting
- 47:33Speaker 1: here and you are livid, Oh yeah, John says, is
- 47:39Speaker 1: it only me who's never even heard of Shaheed before
- 47:41Speaker 1: this season? It probably is. Yeah, he's been. I mean
- 47:44Speaker 1: it depends how It's kind of fair. I've noticed him
- 47:48Speaker 1: for a couple of years because the number how confusing
- 47:51Speaker 1: his name is to say. And I guess also for me,
- 47:53Speaker 1: Alvin Kamara is one of my favorite players, so I
- 47:55Speaker 1: find myself watching a lot of same stuff. So I've
- 47:57Speaker 1: watched Shaheed uh for a b of years. Yeah, Like
- 48:01Speaker 1: it's you're looking at that wide receiver position as one
- 48:06Speaker 1: that you're going to have to add to this offseason
- 48:09Speaker 1: in some form or fashion.
- 48:10Speaker 3: And it's going to cost more to do it in
- 48:13Speaker 3: free agency.
- 48:15Speaker 1: And maybe he likes it when he's in the building,
- 48:19Speaker 1: Like when's when's the last time the Bills acquired someone
- 48:22Speaker 1: and they were like, I don't like it here, I don't.
- 48:24Speaker 3: Like the culture. It's been over five years at minimum,
- 48:29Speaker 3: Like getting someone in the building almost gets you a
- 48:32Speaker 3: guaranteed discount to some extent just based on.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Culture, even the whole like Joey Bosa thing, like how
- 48:37Speaker 1: much he loves it here and he's talking about it
- 48:40Speaker 1: a bunch of every.
- 48:40Speaker 3: Real, very real possibility that if the Bills get him
- 48:44Speaker 3: next year, it's at a number lower than what he
- 48:46Speaker 3: would sign to go elsewhere.
- 48:47Speaker 1: I've been thinking of that lately, because my whole stance
- 48:49Speaker 1: this entire year coming in was likest is probably a
- 48:53Speaker 1: one year deal. Right, he either gets banged up again
- 48:56Speaker 1: and you're not buying that again, or he balls out
- 48:59Speaker 1: and he ego yeah out yeah coverage yep, and kicks
- 49:03Speaker 1: and then go signs up like a three year, forty
- 49:07Speaker 1: million dollar deal somewhere else and you're like, all right, cool,
- 49:09Speaker 1: Like we can't afford that. But now I'm like, does
- 49:11Speaker 1: he like it here so much that he kind of
- 49:15Speaker 1: stays I want to get this comment. No, No, I
- 49:19Speaker 1: don't think anyone's saying Shahi is the best things in
- 49:22Speaker 1: Slice Bread. I don't know if this is directed towards US.
- 49:26Speaker 1: We clearly knew who Shaheed was, and I mean I
- 49:29Speaker 1: broke tape down. I don't know if this director towards US.
- 49:30Speaker 1: I think this is more towards the chat. I do
- 49:33Speaker 1: think I do think this does go to some kind
- 49:35Speaker 1: of like the draft consensus for folks in the offseason,
- 49:38Speaker 1: Like someone hears of someone for the first time and
- 49:40Speaker 1: it's like, Joe, they need this guy, yeah. And then
- 49:43Speaker 1: it's like you just heard of him like two days ago.
- 49:45Speaker 1: Why are you so gung holler like they need this
- 49:47Speaker 1: guy yeah? And John in the comment says, Okay, appreciate you, Steve,
- 49:52Speaker 1: thank you. Says not director. I appreciate you, Steve, thank
- 49:54Speaker 1: you very much. John says, I would prefer to pass
- 49:56Speaker 1: rusher to a wide receiver. We're averaging almost thirty points
- 49:59Speaker 1: a game. I agree with this notion, like if I
- 50:02Speaker 1: could have gotten legitimate strength, not literally, but like added
- 50:07Speaker 1: to the strength of the defensive line, I would have
- 50:09Speaker 1: taken it. I just don't know where you fit it in,
- 50:14Speaker 1: Like is it is it somebody who's more than a rental,
- 50:17Speaker 1: because Okay, then you're probably not bringing Upanessa back next year.
- 50:21Speaker 1: You're probably not bringing Joey Bosa back this year, which
- 50:23Speaker 1: maybe not isn't a bad thing if you've got I'm
- 50:26Speaker 1: just making it up, but if you've got Trey Hendrickson,
- 50:28Speaker 1: you probably don't care that you're not getting Ajpanessa back
- 50:30Speaker 1: or Joey Bosa back next year or something. But then
- 50:32Speaker 1: the interior again is muddy. You've got Daiquon coming back,
- 50:35Speaker 1: you got t J. Sanders coming back. In theory, you
- 50:38Speaker 1: have ed coming back. So it's more like, are you
- 50:42Speaker 1: trying to reinforce for the next I don't know, three
- 50:45Speaker 1: to four weeks. But again, I'm never really gonna complain
- 50:48Speaker 1: if you want to add strength to defensive line, because
- 50:51Speaker 1: the defensive line is what makes this team go.
- 50:54Speaker 3: I want to say my piece to this, and I
- 50:55Speaker 3: texted you about this, and it's it's so gamescript dependent, Like, yes,
- 50:59Speaker 3: the bill are almost averaging thirty points per game, but
- 51:03Speaker 3: the Bills need to average thirty points per game for
- 51:05Speaker 3: their defense to be good. Like their defense cannot play
- 51:09Speaker 3: when they're the offense they're playing is two dimensional. Their
- 51:13Speaker 3: defense is rock solid when they take away the run.
- 51:16Speaker 3: From a game script perspective, so a.
- 51:19Speaker 1: Team that can't run like New England or systemically can't run,
- 51:23Speaker 1: yeah yeah, but when you gamescript take the ball away
- 51:26Speaker 1: from them and they can't run, that's the best thing that.
- 51:30Speaker 3: We can do for this twenty twenty five Bills defense.
- 51:33Speaker 3: They are so much better when they can pin their
- 51:35Speaker 3: ears back and they know what pass is coming. And
- 51:38Speaker 3: the best way to do that is to get early
- 51:39Speaker 3: leads with the run game or the pass game being
- 51:42Speaker 3: two dimensional on offense, and that actually the game script
- 51:45Speaker 3: component also speaks to the offense because this team is
- 51:48Speaker 3: run first on offense. So I know getting a wide
- 51:50Speaker 3: receiver doesn't make sense, but it plays into this mindset
- 51:56Speaker 3: of Okay, it keeps us two dimensional. If we run
- 51:58Speaker 3: the football really well and they throw a CounterPunch, they
- 52:01Speaker 3: want to throw, uh cover one man at us. We
- 52:04Speaker 3: have a man beater now to beat that, we throw
- 52:07Speaker 3: the CounterPunch and then we can get back to the
- 52:09Speaker 3: run game, or then we get back to the run
- 52:10Speaker 3: game and we can throw play action shot play Like,
- 52:14Speaker 3: getting a wide receiver helps the game script on both
- 52:17Speaker 3: sides of the ball and creates a complimentary piece to
- 52:20Speaker 3: the entire team. So to me, I guess it in
- 52:23Speaker 3: a roundabout way helps the defense.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Yes, And and honestly I like my wanting for a
- 52:31Speaker 1: wide receiver because I actually don't think I said on
- 52:33Speaker 1: this one. Yeah, good point for Joe. You're saying, Yeah,
- 52:35Speaker 1: we also don't play well from behind, and then Bob's saying,
- 52:37Speaker 1: hence the defensive performances case, they really have to worry
- 52:40Speaker 1: about the run. And even within that, Kareem Hump busted
- 52:42Speaker 1: off like multiple explosive rupe which they were really successful.
- 52:46Speaker 3: Their success rate was really high. They just you know,
- 52:49Speaker 3: didn't want to run.
- 52:50Speaker 1: Yeah, they for whatever reason, but you know, kudos to
- 52:52Speaker 1: them for losing that game. My want for a receiver
- 52:55Speaker 1: at this point is just to keep defenses honest, Like,
- 52:58Speaker 1: I'm trying to prevent defense from being like, here's eight
- 53:01Speaker 1: to nine guys in the box because we're not afraid
- 53:03Speaker 1: of anybody on the outside, and our goal is to
- 53:06Speaker 1: shut down the run. I'm trying to prevent what happened
- 53:08Speaker 1: against Baltimore last year, and what happened against Houston last year,
- 53:11Speaker 1: and even even what happened against New England a bit
- 53:15Speaker 1: this year where they were like, we don't think your
- 53:16Speaker 1: receivers can beat Christian Gonzales and Carlton Davis.
- 53:19Speaker 3: Yeah, they have the horses to do something like that.
- 53:21Speaker 3: In the second, I guess they're s.
- 53:23Speaker 1: And then for them, you've also got like Milt Williams
- 53:25Speaker 1: and Christian Barmore on the inside who are absolute game wreckers,
- 53:28Speaker 1: and they also had a great game plan on top
- 53:30Speaker 1: of it. Their Bills were they had the Bills very
- 53:32Speaker 1: well scouted with their run game going in. But the
- 53:34Speaker 1: conversation for another time. Yeah, for me, it's really it's
- 53:39Speaker 1: keeping defenses honest enough where your run game can continue
- 53:42Speaker 1: to be as viable as it is. I get nervous
- 53:47Speaker 1: when the Bills are only churning out one to two
- 53:49Speaker 1: yards on the ground because they're not built to throw
- 53:52Speaker 1: it thirty to forty times a game. This team isn't
- 53:54Speaker 1: built to go spread. They don't have digs and Beasley
- 53:59Speaker 1: and Brown not built to live in eleven and live
- 54:02Speaker 1: in ten and just chuck it around the yard like
- 54:05Speaker 1: they're a run first, condensed formation, win with alignment and
- 54:08Speaker 1: formation type of team. Which is why if you get
- 54:11Speaker 1: that little extra piece, it's like, okay, you're you just
- 54:14Speaker 1: be honest, Yes, just enough to keep them honest and
- 54:18Speaker 1: or make them pay. And I do like the idea
- 54:21Speaker 1: of like we're gonna go heavy, we're gonna go twenty
- 54:25Speaker 1: two personnel, and we're gonna put sha heat outside. Yeah,
- 54:29Speaker 1: does your can your corner run with him? Because we're
- 54:32Speaker 1: sending him and if you're gonna sit there and play
- 54:34Speaker 1: single eye, we think he can split that to or
- 54:37Speaker 1: you're gonna take that corner and that post safety you know,
- 54:40Speaker 1: with him because you're nervous about that threat or something.
- 54:42Speaker 1: He can change the math or put a little bit
- 54:45Speaker 1: of fear into your heart. Not a ton where you're
- 54:48Speaker 1: completely rejigging the offense and the defense is rethinking their
- 54:51Speaker 1: entire you know, life philosophy, but enough to potentially keep
- 54:55Speaker 1: you honest. And that's such a good way to put
- 54:57Speaker 1: it too. Like I wanted them to do something today
- 55:00Speaker 1: that could reduce how games Again, you and I were
- 55:03Speaker 1: talking about this, I think yesterday I wanted them to
- 55:05Speaker 1: do something that would reduce how game script dependent they
- 55:09Speaker 1: are on both sides of the ball. But it's my
- 55:12Speaker 1: biggest fear about this team that is, especially on the
- 55:15Speaker 1: defensive side. I said it last year, I said it
- 55:16Speaker 1: this year. Like their best friend for stopping the run
- 55:20Speaker 1: last year was game script getting opponents away from the
- 55:23Speaker 1: run game and or using you know, heavy boxes and
- 55:27Speaker 1: numbers to kind of gap out. But this year that
- 55:30Speaker 1: wasn't working. Because that's not working integrity standpoint. They've gotten
- 55:33Speaker 1: a little bit better, but yeah, gamescript is still very important,
- 55:36Speaker 1: and I was trying to reduce that because again, I
- 55:39Speaker 1: know this isn't fair to judge a team off of
- 55:42Speaker 1: one game, but if you get the wrong game script
- 55:44Speaker 1: in the playoffs and for that one game, it's one
- 55:47Speaker 1: and done, and I hate that notion. So I'm trying
- 55:50Speaker 1: to make this team as impervious to everything as possible.
- 55:53Speaker 3: The Seahawks did. That's what the Seahawks did.
- 55:56Speaker 1: Make yourself as games stupid.
- 55:58Speaker 3: They are so similar to us offensive, like they love
- 56:01Speaker 3: to live in heavy personnels.
- 56:02Speaker 1: They they do so much more under center drop back
- 56:05Speaker 1: though with.
- 56:07Speaker 3: But like from a personnel and formation perspective, it's very
- 56:11Speaker 3: similar to what we're trying to do. And it's like
- 56:13Speaker 3: established the run and then beat you with Play Action Shop.
- 56:17Speaker 3: I guess the Bills don't really do the play Action
- 56:19Speaker 3: Shop play as much, but yeah, that's a different conversation.
- 56:22Speaker 3: But like what they want to do, it's it's very
- 56:25Speaker 3: similar to what the Bills want to do, and it's
- 56:27Speaker 3: ironic that they went after the guy that we wanted.
- 56:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 56:30Speaker 1: Oh, there's a good point from Charles as well, saying
- 56:32Speaker 1: that Bill's defense needs turnovers to force that game script Yep,
- 56:34Speaker 1: they are. They are still. They are still It's similar
- 56:37Speaker 1: to last year right where they are, especially from a
- 56:40Speaker 1: run defense standpoint, but they are overall very dependent on
- 56:45Speaker 1: the negative play creation. It could be a turnover, it
- 56:48Speaker 1: could be a tackle for a loss, it could be
- 56:50Speaker 1: a sack. Like they are very dependent on getting you
- 56:54Speaker 1: into like negative situations. They're not that defense that's like, well,
- 56:58Speaker 1: we're just gonna stop you over and over again. We're
- 56:59Speaker 1: going to force some punts, shut you down on third down.
- 57:02Speaker 1: They are still dependent on turnovers and dependent on stuff
- 57:05Speaker 1: rate and you know, the hot, the toxic differential type
- 57:08Speaker 1: of plays. That's a good comment. They're from Charles Kendall
- 57:13Speaker 1: this last segment. Here, your concern level for the roster
- 57:16Speaker 1: going forward. We've talked about it a little bit. You know,
- 57:19Speaker 1: obviously we wanted some things at receiver. We would have
- 57:21Speaker 1: liked some things, you know, and other people in the
- 57:22Speaker 1: chat would have liked some other things on the defensive line.
- 57:25Speaker 1: Knowing that, Okay, you've got Daiquon Jones coming back, You've
- 57:28Speaker 1: got TJ. Sanders coming back at Oliver potentially probably comes
- 57:32Speaker 1: back first run of the playoffs. Josh Palmer comes back
- 57:36Speaker 1: at some point for wide receiver. Do you have a
- 57:40Speaker 1: concern level? Let's play a number with it. One to ten.
- 57:43Speaker 1: One is you are not concerned at all. Everything's going
- 57:48Speaker 1: to be golden soon. Ten is everything's on fire. I'm
- 57:53Speaker 1: super frustrated. Send this team to the moon or jettison
- 57:57Speaker 1: them into the sun. Where are you?
- 58:00Speaker 3: I think I'm at about like a five and a half. Okay,
- 58:03Speaker 3: I wanted to go five flat, but I think the
- 58:06Speaker 3: half gets built in because of the small sample size
- 58:08Speaker 3: we've seen from Hairston, Like, it's really been great, the
- 58:12Speaker 3: impact that he, Poyer and Hancock I've had on the defense.
- 58:16Speaker 3: It's been fantastic, but it's been a small sample size,
- 58:19Speaker 3: so I can't like it doesn't build enough confidence for
- 58:24Speaker 3: me yet, just because I need to see a little
- 58:26Speaker 3: bit more time on task for it. And then on
- 58:29Speaker 3: top of that, I want to see what this offense
- 58:32Speaker 3: was gonna do in that Falcons game with Palmer, Like
- 58:35Speaker 3: I want to see the one day where it was like,
- 58:37Speaker 3: oh they're opening up with it, Oh they're actually gonna
- 58:39Speaker 3: use him. Yeah, So like I want to see more
- 58:43Speaker 3: time from the young secondary and Poyer, and then I
- 58:48Speaker 3: want to see how they plan on utilizing Palmer, because
- 58:51Speaker 3: Palmer is a big piece to this idea that the
- 58:54Speaker 3: wide receiver room is is fine, right like, yes, as
- 58:59Speaker 3: we sit right now, like I feel fine about the
- 59:01Speaker 3: wide receiver, but that's in concept of what I think
- 59:05Speaker 3: they can do with Palmer, what I think he should
- 59:07Speaker 3: be utilized as all of this is based on concept
- 59:11Speaker 3: and we haven't really seen it yet. So that's kind
- 59:13Speaker 3: of why right now it's Unfortunately it's five point five.
- 59:18Speaker 3: I wish I could go down to five flat, but
- 59:21Speaker 3: they're just honestly, like one good week against the Dolphins,
- 59:25Speaker 3: and I know it's the Dolphins, but even if they
- 59:27Speaker 3: show it against the Dolphins and in subsequent weeks, like,
- 59:31Speaker 3: it'll just keep creeping that number down because I do
- 59:33Speaker 3: feel good about what the healthy defensive tackle room will
- 59:37Speaker 3: look like, Like I guess good isn't the right word,
- 59:40Speaker 3: but again, fine, right like, I'll feel fine about it all.
- 59:44Speaker 3: And that's where it levels out to like five, Like
- 59:47Speaker 3: there's enough pieces on this team. We know this isn't
- 59:49Speaker 3: like a superstar roster. It's three four superstars and the
- 59:54Speaker 3: rest are not middling but above average players thing like
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: really really star worthy but above average players. So you're
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: We're never really going to be blown out of the
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: water by personnel with this team. But I do feel
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: fine about the roster. I feel I'm hopeful about what TJ.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: Sanders can do coming back from his injury. I love
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: where Daikwon Jones was this year before that injury, so
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: I like what we're gonna get from reinforcements. I think
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: a big piece to this is actually Landed Jackson with
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: the Michael Hoy injury. I mean, we've gotten nothing from
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: him this year, so it'll be interesting to see like
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: how that actually progresses. But yeah, five point five, Like
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: there's there's still questions and I need some more sample
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: to feel more and more comfortable as weeks go on.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: I hate that I proposed the idea of answering this
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: in a number and that you did, because I have
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: no idea what my number would be. It's not myself
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: up with failure here.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: Yeah, you really should have thought that through.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: I really did not think that. A horrible, horrible foresight
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: on my part here. I'm in a similar range. Like
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: my concern level again ten is being like I'm super
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: concerned everything is on fire. One I'm not concerned at all.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: I'm I'm probably at a six or a six and a.
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: Half more concern than you are not concerned. Yes, the general.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: Rule here because when everybody comes back, the concerns that
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: I had before the season that were already manifesting when
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: those guys were healthy, those concerns are still gonna be there. Like,
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: I love your point about Daikon I think Daikwon Jones
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: is at a sneaky underappreciated year even with all the
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: struggles against like the run, him bumping over to three
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: tech and playing a good disruptive three tech in at
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: Oliver Stead. Oh, I can't Larry go back and focus.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: I think it's something that hasn't been like talked about enough.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: I'm excited to see him come back.
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: T J.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: Sanders when he was in, yeah, I was slightly underwhelmed.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: I don't think he was having a particularly strong start
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: to the season. I also don't like that, you know,
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: knowing when he comes back he still needs time on
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: task right like to improve. But in theory, you know,
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: no disrespecting anybody. I would definitely rather have him than
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: Jordan Phillips and Frederian Mathis. You know, Mathis has had
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: a couple of flashes, but not good enough. So I
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: think the floor gets raised. But you're still gonna have
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: issues against you know, defending the run, you know, for
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: you know, with Sanders getting blown up a bit with
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: double teams. Same thing with Oguin Jobe, even though he
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: fights any battles. I know, Dion Walker has been sweet
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: and as everybody's darling. He's still getting pushed around a bunch,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: although he is improving a bit, which is nice to see.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: So I'm still gonna have concerns about the spine of
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: their defense against the run, Like when Daikon comes back
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: and Sanders comes back, that's not going away. I'm still
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: gonna have concerns about the spin.
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: We haven't mentioned Chef Thompson yet coming back.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Oh that's a fair point. I I am interested. I
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: liked what Dornian brought against Kansas City. They were using
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: him as that odd mirror spy, and I wonder do
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: they supplement some of them Icael Hoyt stuff with Dorian Williams.
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: We talked about this on texts. It's interesting. It's not
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: a one for one replacement, but it is interesting. He's
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: got athleticism, he's got length, he's got violence. I like
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: the idea of using him as a heat seeking missile
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: to just spike tackles and clean clean up, either clear
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: space for Bosa or Epanessa or or group. Solomon did
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: a couple of fun things, you know, in that spinner
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: type of role, so maybe they can cobble it together
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: a bit. But yeah, Shack Thompson coming back, I think
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: he raised the four of that linebacker group, especially you know,
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: if he's gonna go in on base looks or if
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: any I just expect at some point Milano and or
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: Bernard are going to go down again. I don't know when.
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: I don't know for how long. I don't know if
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: it's gonna be for half or a quarter or multiple games,
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: if it's gonna be regular season, if it's gonna be
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: the playoffs. At some point they're going to go down,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: and I want Shack Thompson there, so I feel better
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: about that. And then receiver, I'm excited at Palmer back.
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: I'm still gonna have the same questions about verticality and
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: the offense that I did in the off season and
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: that I did for the first several weeks going in,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: and what's annoying is yeah, good comment from Charles Saint
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: Solomon could be used in the odd mirror. Yep, they
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: could use him in that. They could use Dorian Williams
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: like they did. Williams again played good in that role.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: His length and speed and violence really plays well in
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: that package. Could company also mitigate his processing issues absolutely there,
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: It's very just sea ball, get ball. Hey, dude, you're
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: gonna you're gonna sit at about one yard depth from
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: the line on the snap. You're gonna stay there. You're
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: gonna wait for the quarterback to leave a spot, and
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: then when he moves, go get him. That's it. It's
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: very much like, let him be an athlete. Yeah, just
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: let him be an athlete, sea ball, getball. Go be
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: fast and athletic and long and violent and strong, and
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: just go get whoever you want and bury him every time.
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: I like that type of usage for him. And then yeah,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: on the offensive side, I still I'm still gonna have
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: those concerns and it's and it's gonna take a while.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: I you know, I got excited when they open up
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: the game against Atlanta with that team shot to Palmer,
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: but I saw a lot of people taking like victory
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: laps for it and being like phoo and everybody said
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: the Bills couldn't like push the ball deep. It was
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: one play even Palmer stayed in. They might not have
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: worked another deep ball the whole right, So I for me,
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: for a lot of it, it's really gonna be the
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: sample size. Like if they it's say Palmer comes back,
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: or even this week against Miami and Alan is like
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: eighteen of twenty for three hundred yards because he hit
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: shot after shot and like, I'm like, whoa, Like look
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: at that. I'm still gonna want to see it a
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: little bit more. I need to build that samize. That
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: hypothetical is really sad because they haven't shown it enough.
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: Like if they show it once, it could just be
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: a blip like it or it might not be the trend.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: It might just be a blip. And especially given how
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: they built the room what we've seen in the past,
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: the sample size that we have of who they are exists,
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: and it's a good sample size. And I think that's
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: why I'm kind of like probably a six or a
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: six and a half, because I do think they get significant.
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: They do get better obviously when these guys return from
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: the ir and return from injury. But the questions that
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: still exist aren't going away. Their biggest question on defense
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: is being unable to stop the run and being vulnerable
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: in their spine. When all these guys come back on
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: the interior, that question still exists. Their biggest question on
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: the on the offense is can they consistently win on
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: the outside and or win deep. That question is still
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: going to exist even when Josh Palmer comes back, but
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: his presence should hopefully open up more things for Kincaid,
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: who I think is the real explosive guy. Your way
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: to win consistently with explosives is get Kincaid matched up
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: on linebackers and safeties and let him eat. That's what
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: it is. I do think Palmer helps in that regard.
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: Shit he would have also helped in that regard as
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: well by taking the top off and creating some separation.
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: Between gotta let go, we have to go and move
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: on unfortunately, so.
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: I do think guys coming back from injury will definitely help.
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: I would feel more confident if ed Oliver was coming.
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: Ed Oliver would probably knock this down about a full point.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: If I'm at a six or a six and a half,
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: I would probably be at about a five to five
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: and a half if Ed Oliver was coming back in
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: November or December. If it wasn't, yeah, he should be
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: good for the playoffs, but it's not even guaranteed. And again,
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: even so, if he comes back for around one of
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: the playoffs, is he gonna have one of those giant braces?
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: Is he gonna be unable to use his arm? Matt
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: Mlonald came back last year, couldn't use his freakin' arm
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: in the playoffs or any of the games that he
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: was coming back because he could, he had that brace
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: on and it was just like one giant limb with
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: no mobility to it. Is that what Ed is going
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: to be? And Ed's game is predicated on hand usage
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: and juice and violence. If he can't free wheel and
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: deal because he's got some kind of contraption on his arm,
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: how much does that limit him?
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: Like?
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: That's I think a big one as well. That worries
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: me a bit. So if he was coming back earlier,
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: and like, no disrespect, if I could flip Oliver and
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: Sanders' timelines, I'd probably go down to a five five
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: or five and a half concern level. But for me, yeah,
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: it's it's just once these guys come back, it's still
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: the same concern level that we had.
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: Same questions that need to get answered.
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: And that's what's frustrating. And now the positive with that,
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: a lot of the questions the Bills have, like there
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: are all the other teams in the AFC have some
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: kind of fatal flaw question or questions about them. So
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: it's not like they're screwed because they've got these two
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: big questions on them around them. But I did think
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: they have they they had the opportunity to kind of
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: mitigate some of them. Obviously they did not, and we
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: kind of are where we are, for better or for worse.
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: M hmm.
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: It is just a tough reality. But yeah, we have
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: to move on. We have to move on and trust
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: the product that has been assembled before us, and I
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: think that's just that's what we gotta do. We just
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: got to hope that they keep incrementally improving as they
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: which is possibly.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: Which is possible, Like I don't I don't think.
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: Everyone's developed in their own timeline, but the team as
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: a whole is better than where they were after Week four, right,
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: Like I know, they took the lull in the middle there,
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: but even before the lull, and look at where they
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: are now. There, they're certainly playing better football now. So absolutely,
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: growth isn't linear as we always say, and we just
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: kind of have to keep riding this wave and trust
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: that process.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: I am Joey says this comment here, He says, wait
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: till the Texans defense gets a hold of this dink
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: and dunk.
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: Office right bad.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: I am very interested. Stingley is arguably the best corn
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: in the NFL. He's right there with Pat in terms
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: of that conversation. Kamari Lasser is also nasty. I am
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: very interested to see what the Bills receivers can do
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: against Kamari Lassiter and Derek Stingley, and then combine that
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: with arguably the best defensive end combination in football with
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson. I think it's so funny too.
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: And to look and Petrad too.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I I have never Jalen Petrie is a
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: guy that, for whatever reason, I have never been as
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: high on as.
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: No but he adds to their juice as a team
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: like that. He yeah, I mean the technical side can.
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: Be all the time cover stuff, but yeah, he's got juice.
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: He flies around. Boat's a good center fielder. You can
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: do some stuff with him.
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: Like they compliment each other really well. Yeah, and like
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: they I don't know that game is entirely dependent on
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: game script and establishing the run. If they don't establish
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: the run, that's where Shahied was needed. I do not
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: want third and sevens, third and eights, third and nine s.
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: And the Texans are like cool, lock everybody up at
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: the outside. Danil will go hunt, just get it, just
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: go hunt and do what they did last year and
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: then playing their cover one games on.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: Third downs letting.
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: El Shire.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: Yeah, who's dirty and not like, oh he's dirty, like
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: he's a scum.
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: By he just plays real and doesn't have any limits.
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: No. Yeah, like he flies around and is that guy
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: who's gonna make questionable hits and it's kind of like dirty.
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: But he's also like just violent all the time, so
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: you worry about him. Yeah, I and total. I like
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: Henry Totoe coming out of Bama and he's been improving
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: every year. Like he's violent too. Yeah. Their whole defense
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: is just made of veloci raptors and they've got a
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: great corner tandem and a great edge combo. That's a
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: big one for me, especially knowing that it's I mean
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: looking up, Yeah, it is on the short because it's
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: it's Miami this week, Tampa the week after, and then
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: they're at Houston on that Thursday night. So they played
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: Tampa on Sunday the sixteenth, and then they're in Houston
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: on Thursday night, three days later. So you're in Houston
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: on a short week. What are you going to do
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: against one.
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: Of the least they played them last year? If they
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: didn't play them last year, Mike, God, preparation would be ugly.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: I'm very interested to see that. Ken they how do
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: you deal with Stingley? How do you deal with Lassiter?
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: And then yeah, I trust the offensive line to mitigate
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: some some of the rush from Anderson and Hunter, but
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: I know they're gonna get theirs. I'm really just concerned,
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: like it is Houston just gonna be like, yo, load
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: the box, Yeah, load the box with Petrie and then
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: think how perfect their single high stuff works because it's Lassiter,
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: Stingley and then Bullock who is just made to be
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: a post safety all day, like his biggest issues coming
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: out of USC where dude can't tackle, but he can
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: range all day and make plays on the ball all day.
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: That is gonna be a good test.
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: The defensive line is gonna have to eat in that
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: game because there's ripe opportunities on the other right.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: The defense better own that. Like Houston's O line is
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: not good. Their run game is not good. Although maybe
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: Mixin is probably back by then he helps a little bit.
- 1:12:45Speaker 3: Out thing about mixing. That guy might not even be
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: walking the earth at this place.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: It's it's wonky. I also think it's funny too that
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: daneil Hunter and Jonathan Grenard essentially swap teams, Like Hunter
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: went from Minnesota to Houston and Grenard went from Hue
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: to Minnesota, and they've both just been amazing.
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: And it's they're both sick.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: Why didn't you each just stay where you were and
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: be sick. It's funny that they just swapped it. Each
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: team was like, no, we'd rather have this guy. We'd
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: rather have this guy.
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: And there's way more of this in the NFL than
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: anyone wants to admit.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: That's fair.
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: Move gets made both teams.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: Prosper No, he's better, No's they're both crushing it there
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: to the better. Yeah, I'm excited for that game and
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: it'll be on a short week and it'll be yaugh.
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: You know what, I'm always excited for. One Pie Pizza,
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: the best pizza, Yeah, you know, the best pizza in Buffalo,
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: New York. If you folks do not know, the online
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: menu can be found in the episode show not So
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: They're here on YouTube or whichever podcasting Apple platform you
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: were listening to this show on. I don't say they're
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: the best pizza in Buffalo because they sponsored the show.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: They sponsored the show because I sincerely believe they are
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: the best pizza in Buffalo. For those who don't know,
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: I had reached out to another pizza place to sponsor
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: the show. One Pie got wind of that. We're like, hey,

- 1:14:11Speaker 1: catering division called Elevated Catering of Buffalo. They make all
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: these great mac and cheeses and different like chicken and
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: rice dishes like I've had them cater multiple events. Its
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: sincerely is amazing food and amazing pizza, and it's all
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: cooked up by a really good group of people. I
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: talk about it all the time, all the initiatives they
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: do for the community and the city at large, whether
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: it's you know, partnering with Roswell, partnering with the SPCA,
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: or the Alzheimer's Foundation and different drives initiatives for them
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: and or their Toys for Tots drive, which will be
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: starting very soon come holiday season. I will have details
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: for you, folks, But essentially, every year you bring a toy,
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: you get a ticket. A ticket gets entered into a

- 1:14:50Speaker 1: tickets to games, autograph jerseys, helmets, bills, sabers, potential opportunity
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: to win free pizza. Honestly, I love the Bills and Sabers.
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: I really want to win the free pizza like you
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: get free pizza like for a like for a year.
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: I want that prize really bad. I'll have details for
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: that going forward on them, but yeah, get yourself to
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: one by pizza. Check the episode, show notes for the
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: online menu, check out, Elevated Catering a Buffalo, all of
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: that stuff. If you're in town for a Bills game,
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: get yourself some one by pizza. You will not be disappointed.
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: Kendall final thoughts for the people here. And it could
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: be on the trade deadline, it could be on this
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: Bill's team going forward, it could be very high level,
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: it could be very granular and niche. What's on your
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: mind as we start to wrap the show and wind
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: down right now?
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: I'm not gonna lie. The only thing on my mind
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: is the Bills continue to disappoint, But I don't know
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: if pizza ever will.
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: Oh that's deep.
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: I mean that's like, when's the last No, seriously think
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: about it, Like the Bills hurt us every single year,
- 1:15:51Speaker 3: but like, when's the last time you've been hurt by pizza.
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: It's definitely not especially one pie pizza. I know what
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: I'm getting. It's just one especially one Pi pizza. Such
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: a high it's a high floor, high ceiling.
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: Then you can't go wrong. Man, It's just limitless opportunities.
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: It really is, like I know what I'm getting. There's
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: no I know the resources that I allocate are going
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: to be well spent. The return of investment is.
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: But the return on investment we get for the Bills,
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: It's like, man, we care so much and they just
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: keep hurting us.
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: It's just so much variance. It almost makes me.
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: I care about pizza. It keeps loving me back.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: I love it and it loves me, and sometimes I
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: just feel like the Bills don't love me back the
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: way I love them. That was deep.
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: I truthfully don't really have that much. Like I got
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: everything I needed to get out on the trade deadline
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: though that's fair.
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I still think despite all that, right, like I think,
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: even though I do again lean into like today being
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: a failure, I still think the Bills are one of
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: the better teams in the NFL. I'm still on the
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: boat that the Bills are a legitimate Super Bowl contender,
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: not just for the AFC but for the NFL as
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: a whole, and it's just going to be a matter of,
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: you know, what they can do each week going forward.
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: I was, I tell you, I was very pleased coming
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: out of the Chiefs game and watching the tape seeing
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: how much that game plan, especially defensively, was crafted from
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: a matchup standpoint. It wasn't just the odd mirror stuff.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: It was the odd mirror stuff plus the dime personnel stuff,
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: plus the man coverage stuff, plus the match coverage stuff,
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: and everything that they were doing, and the rotation of guys,
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: their game plan, the marriage of Russian coverage, all of it.
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: It wasn't just their typical and they've done this against
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: Kansas City before, mainly with just the odd mirror stuff.
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: But it wasn't just there like, hey, we're gonna come
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: out and play our normal stuff and then we'll adjust
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: like they came out with a matchup based game plan,
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: and that made me so excited for the future because
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: that's been my biggest thing come playoff time. This defense
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: just does what it's normally done, which is we're gonna
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: come we're going to be ourselves, and then we'll kind
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: of see what the other what the other team is
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: doing offensively, and we'll pivot. And it's always like, guess what,
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: your pivot either doesn't work or it comes too late
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: and you're screwed. I really liked how they put a
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: game plan together to stop Kansas City. It was very proactive.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: It was not reactive. It was not adjustment based. Not
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: that that's terrible, you can still win like that, but
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: I like how much they played on the front foot
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: against Kansas City, and that gave me a lot of
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: hope going forward. That's kind of where my head is
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: at for this team, especially on the defensive side of
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: the ball, and I love that. Whether it's coincidence or not,
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: I feel like they've been a much better defense than
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: since the second half of that Atlanta game, and Sean
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: McDermott's had more of a hand in the defense since
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: that second half of Atlanta. I really do think as
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: much as him and Babbage are running the defense together,
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: I think Sean McDermott is running this defense and I
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: think it shows and I like that and I'm very excited.
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: But yeah, from a grander perspective, I just whether it's
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: McDermott or whether it's something else that that matchup based
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: game plan going up against Kansas City, I like that
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: a lot. It wasn't just, hey, we know who we are,
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: the opponent knows who we are, let's see what they
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: do and we'll adjust from there. It was no, we're
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: going to scout the other team. We're gonna build this
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: defense to stop them, which is which is why I
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: wanted lou Ana Roumo to come in this defensive coordinator
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: because one of the best. Yes, he's one of the
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: best matchup based defensive coordinators in football. And yeah I was.
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: I was really excited. I was and pleased with who
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: they were in that game and what they were in
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: that game. Oh, hold on here, I got it. Cecil
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: says Buffalo is the worst pizza in almost the entire country.
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: Buffalo pizza is like a thirty four year old washed
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: up safety compared to pizza from New York. I lived
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: in New York City for nine years, and they definitely
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: have some good pizza. You're wildin' bro like that the
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: pizza here is terrible or that has the worst pizza
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: in almost of almost.
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: The entire Western New York has some real pizza. Yeah.
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: I don't know what you're talking about, but you know,
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: to each their own, I can't tell people how their
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: taste buds work or don't work in your case. But
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: as a person who lived in New York for yeah,
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: nine and a half years, almost a full ten, there's
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: some really great pizza spots in New York. There's some
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: crazy good pizza spots in Buffalo. The pizza is different,
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: for sure, but yeah, man, man, as what.
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: A I we had some takes today, I'm more like,
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: I want to go another hour on pizza now, I'm like,
- 1:20:34Speaker 4: just what I don't understand.
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: But you know, to each their own, to each their own, Kendle,
