- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm with Ryan Cougler because he gave me what I
- 0:04Speaker 1: needed and what I needed. What's it.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Here's your warning, guys, we're going to talk to some
- 0:23Speaker 2: specifics about the film.
- 0:24Speaker 1: If you do not want to hear, press stop.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Right now, Yeah, Paul whatever, Okay, come back with you
- 0:32Speaker 2: finished And they comment, yeah, all right, I wanted you
- 0:37Speaker 2: and I'm going in then. I'm mean, i bucks with
- 0:43Speaker 2: Ryan Cougler because he gave me what I needed, and
- 0:48Speaker 2: what I needed was to shoot up some.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Cracks completely, like completely has absolutely nothing to do with
- 1:02Speaker 3: the goddamn plot for no reason.
- 1:05Speaker 4: It was like it was like Marvels post credit scene,
- 1:09Speaker 4: you know, like it was like the one where Captain
- 1:11Speaker 4: America sits down and talks to you because you know
- 1:13Speaker 4: it has nothing to do with anything, but you still
- 1:15Speaker 4: loved it.
- 1:16Speaker 2: You know, I'm laughing because this is you. Remember I said,
- 1:21Speaker 2: I was just had a lot of comedy for me.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I was.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Rolling like the way Ryan was like, you know and now.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Live when I said, satisfic This is the other reason
- 1:39Speaker 2: why it was for no at signs for no no.
- 1:43Speaker 1: There's always a reason.
- 1:44Speaker 2: To shoot to shootash and no the other stuff and
- 1:47Speaker 2: nazis all that there's always.
- 1:49Speaker 5: A reason for that, always great reason, fantastic in.
- 1:51Speaker 1: The context of a storyline of the film.
- 1:53Speaker 4: Maybe the reason I had nothing to do with anything,
- 1:59Speaker 4: so what, but it was.
- 2:00Speaker 2: He was there at the Boy at the end when
- 2:05Speaker 2: when Homeboy was laying on the ground, the grim Wiz
- 2:07Speaker 2: was on the ground.
- 2:11Speaker 4: He was talking about That was so funny because, like
- 2:15Speaker 4: I said, you didn't grow up on the same movies.
- 2:17Speaker 4: I grew up all like I grew up watching the
- 2:18Speaker 4: eighties action films on like at home with my brother
- 2:21Speaker 4: Andrew Higgins, shout out to my bro, shout out to Ashley,
- 2:24Speaker 4: and what we would do, Like I have a specific
- 2:27Speaker 4: memory of watching Commando and pausing it and like counting,
- 2:33Speaker 4: you know, the the amount of what what are they called, squiggs? Yeah,
- 2:38Speaker 4: squidge Yeah, when the bloods that. Yeah, we would count
- 2:43Speaker 4: them on every shot to be like, oh, they used
- 2:45Speaker 4: twelve squids on this, and then we were like when
- 2:48Speaker 4: niggas do the dance, the bullet dance. Bro, that was
- 2:52Speaker 4: like one of our favorite moments.
- 2:55Speaker 5: In eighties action cinema. Anyone who's seen.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Any eighties movies knows the bullet dam when someone's getting
- 3:01Speaker 4: hit by the submachine guns, and they're.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Just the ragged off physics.
- 3:06Speaker 2: And what's so funny about that is also the decisions
- 3:09Speaker 2: the actor is making.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Like always about the actor themselves.
- 3:14Speaker 2: But they're being told to do this, but the way
- 3:16Speaker 2: they go about it is what's so fucking funny.
- 3:19Speaker 1: It's like they always extra to animated.
- 3:23Speaker 4: It's like you notice, it's like the Rock selling a stone.
- 3:26Speaker 2: It is like selling every single super move from every
- 3:31Speaker 2: wrestler you've ever seen in the w w E.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And it's just like, especially who will sell who.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Was sell the best rock? That the man will do.
- 3:44Speaker 4: His head will be on the mat and he'll do
- 3:45Speaker 4: a spin. His feet will be straight up in that air. Yeah,
- 3:49Speaker 4: straight up in the air. My man does like a
- 3:51Speaker 4: leaning tower, piece of upside down.
- 3:53Speaker 2: You know.
- 3:54Speaker 4: The Rocks sold the Stunner like no one.
- 3:56Speaker 1: They did that.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Everything double bounce like.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Every single chance they could get in centers time.
- 4:06Speaker 2: There was no, no, no, every gun anything revolving a gun,
- 4:10Speaker 2: involving a gun. Rather, if it was more than just
- 4:12Speaker 2: a pop shot them, niggas was them. Niggas was getting taken,
- 4:17Speaker 2: their wig was getting thrown back all the way.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Listen that, Oh my god, that was so funny. I mean,
- 4:23Speaker 1: it was so refreshing for me.
- 4:24Speaker 5: I was talking about that whole scene.
- 4:26Speaker 4: That whole scene was like to me because there wasn't
- 4:28Speaker 4: I mean, other other guys got shot, you know, the
- 4:31Speaker 4: vampires got shot, but they never did the dance. But
- 4:33Speaker 4: every nigga in that scene did the dance.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Well, they also vampires.
- 4:36Speaker 4: Then you can't do dan, you can't do the them
- 4:39Speaker 4: niggas was doing the dance. And that last one, the
- 4:42Speaker 4: last one on the ground. My man had his arms out,
- 4:45Speaker 4: he to the side. He like doing that Homer Simpson
- 4:48Speaker 4: when he's like rolling around on the circle on the ground.
- 4:50Speaker 2: And the other reason why Bennett saying like it doesn't
- 4:53Speaker 2: have no bearing is because, like this stuff happened after the.
- 4:57Speaker 4: Movies was over over.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Every thing was was resolved essentially right mainly, but I
- 5:04Speaker 2: was waiting for this moment. Specifically, I was because this
- 5:07Speaker 2: is the moment that you see in the trailers.
- 5:08Speaker 1: You see a piece of it. It did not go
- 5:11Speaker 1: the way I expected.
- 5:12Speaker 2: No, I thought it was gonna be something totally different.
- 5:15Speaker 2: And this is what I think. I love, I love
- 5:17Speaker 2: you know, we always complain, oh they show too much
- 5:19Speaker 2: in the trailer. No, they did this ship, right, Ryan
- 5:22Speaker 2: wants to learn from Marvel about lying to niggas in
- 5:24Speaker 2: the trailer because the lies nigga because when you see
- 5:29Speaker 2: what fuck it?
- 5:31Speaker 4: Because the trunk, and they mentioned the trunk earlier. They're like, oh,
- 5:33Speaker 4: we gotta have to get the trunk.
- 5:34Speaker 5: And so I'm like, who the.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Old school version of popped the trump?
- 5:40Speaker 4: I said, yeah, they popped the trump. The movie's over,
- 5:46Speaker 4: And even I.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Think it was Who's who who said that? Haley, you
- 5:49Speaker 2: ain't got to pop the trunk, Like she basically said that.
- 5:51Speaker 2: She said, you don't need to do that, like because
- 5:54Speaker 2: to your point.
- 5:54Speaker 1: The movie's over.
- 5:55Speaker 2: If that happens, right, Like, just like if that happens
- 5:58Speaker 2: during the latout, shit is over. If that happen, it's right.
- 6:00Speaker 2: So I understood it all matched up. Another thing that
- 6:08Speaker 2: was fucking hilarious the vampires. The white vampires specifically because
- 6:13Speaker 2: there are a mixture that ends up being a.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Mixture of vampires.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Here them whities them Were they from Ireland or were
- 6:20Speaker 2: they from Scotland?
- 6:23Speaker 1: What they Island or Scotland?
- 6:25Speaker 4: You sure?
- 6:26Speaker 5: I'm pretty sure they were Irish?
- 6:28Speaker 1: Okay, the accent was giving.
- 6:30Speaker 5: Irish and the dancing British too.
- 6:33Speaker 2: So the reason why I'm asking is because my man's
- 6:36Speaker 2: the white vampire was rive dancing on that ass.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Yes if river dancing Irish as far as I know,
- 6:43Speaker 4: but you might be right, yes.
- 6:46Speaker 1: It's Irish, but the guy's accent was a little off
- 6:48Speaker 1: to me.
- 6:48Speaker 2: But anyway, seeing with me chewed.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Like, you know, the two leads, the vampire and the
- 7:01Speaker 4: lead human Michael, were both you know, eating up that scene.
- 7:04Speaker 2: The vampires were so funny me because they was the
- 7:07Speaker 2: highest level of trolls you've ever seen in real life.
- 7:10Speaker 2: When Mike nan'ses they are hold up in this shack,
- 7:14Speaker 2: feared and for the life, and Mike Man's is outside
- 7:17Speaker 2: with his boys river dancing talking about I'm gonna kill
- 7:21Speaker 2: oh y'all like I was rhying, laughing like that sent
- 7:26Speaker 2: me into fucking orbit when that shit went down, and
- 7:29Speaker 2: just how they was taunting these people, like even when Haley,
- 7:33Speaker 2: when Haley went that way she went and she was
- 7:36Speaker 2: just like, we're gonna kill all y'all. She skirted away
- 7:38Speaker 2: like that shit is. As soon she become a vampire,
- 7:40Speaker 2: you become infinitely funny. That's what I've learned from this film.
- 7:43Speaker 5: And see again, like Lost Boys.
- 7:45Speaker 4: You know, I always know about the Lost Boys because
- 7:48Speaker 4: Lost Boys hasn't seen Michael's the leads. You know, Michael's
- 7:52Speaker 4: the lead character and he's a human at this point
- 7:56Speaker 4: and the lead vampire. He's in the vampire's cave chilling
- 7:59Speaker 4: with them, you know, he doesn't know they're vampires. And
- 8:01Speaker 4: they're all eating takeout food and he hands them uh
- 8:06Speaker 4: Chinese box of noodles and he tastes it and he's like,
- 8:11Speaker 4: it's like some rice first, the first those rice and
- 8:13Speaker 4: he's eating the rice. He's like, Michael, you're eating maggots, Michael,
- 8:16Speaker 4: and he looks down again and it's maggots in the
- 8:20Speaker 4: ground and they're all cracking up because it's just rights again.
- 8:23Speaker 4: And then he's like, oh, have some noodles and he
- 8:25Speaker 4: hands them the noodles. In this it's all kind of
- 8:28Speaker 4: worms and it's mind ship. You know, it's never explained.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Lost Boys has a lot of stuff about the vampires.
- 8:35Speaker 4: They just don't explaining. They just do things. I mean,
- 8:39Speaker 4: it's dope though.
- 8:39Speaker 1: And the reference to the Empires are the worst of them.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Yeah, And the reference to the Lost Boys that I
- 8:44Speaker 4: didn't want to talk about in the spoiler part was
- 8:47Speaker 4: the whole idea that if you kill the lead vampire,
- 8:50Speaker 4: does the person turned back to normal? Because that's lost
- 8:52Speaker 4: boys and lost Boys they're trying to vampire, so Michael
- 8:56Speaker 4: will turn back to normal. And I love that. This
- 8:58Speaker 4: was like, Nah, well.
- 9:01Speaker 2: I'm trying to think because every like vampire stuff I've
- 9:04Speaker 2: ever watched from my childhood on, I don't think it's
- 9:07Speaker 2: ever been that way. I think if I remember everything
- 9:10Speaker 2: I've ever watched from like Blade Queen of the Damn like,
- 9:15Speaker 2: because we didn't, I don't think that was everything. Like
- 9:18Speaker 2: if you killed the that's lost for you're the progeny
- 9:22Speaker 2: is your progenitor your progenitor or what's that called?
- 9:25Speaker 5: Do you if you killed the arch vampires?
- 9:29Speaker 4: Yeah, And I feel like I never heard of that.
- 9:31Speaker 2: I didn't think there was ever a connection like that,
- 9:35Speaker 2: so that was a new concept for me.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I was like, I ain't know that was possible.
- 9:37Speaker 4: Yeah, well that is, I know that comes up and
- 9:40Speaker 4: Lost Boys for the first time, at least for me.
- 9:42Speaker 4: I'm not sure if it was in other vampires before
- 9:44Speaker 4: that or whatnot, but that's a big point of Lost
- 9:46Speaker 4: Boys in the world. I'm just like, no, no, not no, no.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Just saying the thing is you could kill them main
- 9:51Speaker 2: one of the other ones looking like damn, you went
- 9:53Speaker 2: out bad, like I.
- 9:55Speaker 4: Noticed, Like I think in Blade when he kills them,
- 9:57Speaker 4: all the other ones die, right, Maybe I can't remember,
- 10:03Speaker 4: but I know that's but like I said, Lost Boys
- 10:06Speaker 4: is one of those films that if you're a vampire
- 10:08Speaker 4: lover you've seen in you're referencing or you're you know,
- 10:11Speaker 4: it's referencing you, it's influencing you. So I would just
- 10:15Speaker 4: love that Brian David that shout out to it. And
- 10:17Speaker 4: it was also like that moment in Avengers when they're like,
- 10:20Speaker 4: that's in the future.
- 10:20Speaker 5: Lied to me.
- 10:21Speaker 4: You know, I wanted to yell that out in the
- 10:23Speaker 4: I wanted to yell that in the theater, but I
- 10:24Speaker 4: didn't want to do that in the theater. I wanted
- 10:26Speaker 4: to be lost.
- 10:29Speaker 2: And to your point of just the referencing and stuff
- 10:31Speaker 2: is just and also just throwing us off.
- 10:33Speaker 1: You fucking lied, and it.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Is a great job because you know it's like, oh,
- 10:38Speaker 2: you thought what you thought, what you knew about vampire
- 10:41Speaker 2: is actually matched here, and it didn't.
- 10:43Speaker 1: And there were still the traditional stuff, you know, the garlic,
- 10:46Speaker 1: the steaks, you.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Know, all that stuff that the vampires being essentially impervious
- 10:50Speaker 2: to bullets and stuff like that, Like you got to truly,
- 10:52Speaker 2: there's only a couple of ways that really kill them
- 10:54Speaker 2: besides the sun itself.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Like that remains the same just in every story.
- 11:00Speaker 5: The one that I.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Felt like was a bit of influence that I loved
- 11:03Speaker 4: was the original John Carpenter's The Thing, because the Thing
- 11:08Speaker 4: has that same idea. Once all these people are trapped
- 11:11Speaker 4: in a room and they don't know that which one
- 11:14Speaker 4: of them is the thing. You've never seen the Thing, right,
- 11:19Speaker 4: it is. It'll fuck you up. You got to see it.
- 11:20Speaker 4: It's one of the things that you got to see.
- 11:21Speaker 4: But it's like that where they're all you know, because
- 11:24Speaker 4: the thing infets people and can turn into people. So yeah,
- 11:28Speaker 4: like it doesn't always look like a monster like sometimes no,
- 11:33Speaker 4: sometimes it'll look just like you.
- 11:35Speaker 5: So like it's for people.
- 11:37Speaker 4: And there's the samous scene where they do this blood
- 11:39Speaker 4: test because like I think, it's if you hold fire
- 11:42Speaker 4: to it, the thing reacts, so they all take a
- 11:44Speaker 4: bit of their blood, put it in a tray, and
- 11:47Speaker 4: then hold the match to it, and then finally it
- 11:50Speaker 4: jumps on one of them and they're like, NIGGI you
- 11:52Speaker 4: the thing, you know, and that's you know. But so
- 11:55Speaker 4: it's that type of scene when they're all trying to
- 11:56Speaker 4: figure out who's the vampire. That's what I was like, Yeah,
- 12:00Speaker 4: this is a big you know, I love it. Yeah,
- 12:03Speaker 4: I mean, I'm not saying like stealing from the thing.
- 12:05Speaker 4: It's just great things like this influence all of us.
- 12:08Speaker 4: And it's like, you know, you give a little shout,
- 12:10Speaker 4: you know, it's like you little shout there, a little
- 12:11Speaker 4: shots boys out of the thing. You know. I love it.
- 12:16Speaker 4: And another thing we didn't discuss there in the spoiler,
- 12:19Speaker 4: and that I just I mean, I absolutely love Like
- 12:22Speaker 4: there's there's two things like if we're talking more about it,
- 12:24Speaker 4: I really do you know, really do like appreciate in
- 12:27Speaker 4: this film. It's like one is the vampires and their
- 12:30Speaker 4: whiteness and how like they come along trying to sing
- 12:33Speaker 4: this white music to these people who are playing blues
- 12:36Speaker 4: and they're over here trying to see this bullshit, you know,
- 12:39Speaker 4: and yeah, and it's like they I was even trying
- 12:43Speaker 4: of mad at all, my going being like, oh that's cool,
- 12:45Speaker 4: you know, but I think that's that vampire mental influence
- 12:50Speaker 4: like they were doing a bit of that where they
- 12:51Speaker 4: weren't really saying it, but they were showing that these
- 12:53Speaker 4: vampires can influence your mind, like when they.
- 12:56Speaker 5: Start talking to you, you you know, you fall prey.
- 12:59Speaker 2: To them, right, And I think that's just it, And
- 13:02Speaker 2: I was actually thinking about that when it came to
- 13:04Speaker 2: what I was was, I was reviewing as the vampire
- 13:07Speaker 2: rules in this universe, and I was actually going back
- 13:10Speaker 2: and forth on that because especially because you know the
- 13:13Speaker 2: other main rule of most vampire things is that like
- 13:15Speaker 2: vampires cannot cross this threshold unless you invite, so that
- 13:20Speaker 2: you know that.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Remained true in this same situation.
- 13:22Speaker 2: But then you know, I was thinking of things like
- 13:24Speaker 2: True Blood where it's like they have the power of glamour, right,
- 13:27Speaker 2: which is which is just O O P charisma right,
- 13:31Speaker 2: the charismas plus one thousand and at times Sinners kind
- 13:36Speaker 2: of made it like there was something there, but then
- 13:38Speaker 2: it wasn't that strong, where like like for example and
- 13:41Speaker 2: True Blood, if somebody glamored you, your ass was done
- 13:44Speaker 2: for like there was it was almost a trance. There
- 13:47Speaker 2: was no coming out of it, whereas in Sinners you
- 13:49Speaker 2: could see that it may have had an effect like
- 13:52Speaker 2: there was even some like literally on screen physically you
- 13:54Speaker 2: could see hazing around the person, like the screen became
- 13:57Speaker 2: not screen, but there the depth of field became a
- 13:59Speaker 2: little blite, like you can tell that there was some
- 14:02Speaker 2: thing affecting them, but it wasn't so much that it
- 14:05Speaker 2: was just like that person was entrapped mentally. So that's
- 14:08Speaker 2: why I was going back and forth, was like, were
- 14:09Speaker 2: they really have influence or was it just because they
- 14:11Speaker 2: were so fucking weird that you were just like trying
- 14:14Speaker 2: to figure out, well, who is this person?
- 14:16Speaker 5: It's a bit of both, I think.
- 14:17Speaker 4: And then also I think it was another thing that
- 14:20Speaker 4: I think representative visually was sometimes the vampire's eyes would
- 14:24Speaker 4: turn red and sometimes they would go gray.
- 14:27Speaker 5: And when they went gray, I think that was like
- 14:28Speaker 5: what you were calling the glamour.
- 14:30Speaker 4: And then the other side of it is once again
- 14:32Speaker 4: going back the Lost Boys, is if the vampires outside
- 14:35Speaker 4: of your home, the powers don't work like that, like
- 14:38Speaker 4: in Lost Boys, how the vampire fools them to lead
- 14:41Speaker 4: vampire who they don't know. This is a bit spoiler
- 14:43Speaker 4: for a thirty forty year old movie, but whatever, how
- 14:45Speaker 4: they don't know that, how he gets away from it?
- 14:47Speaker 4: How they don't figure out the lead vampires dating their mom,
- 14:51Speaker 4: and they don't realize it because he comes over for
- 14:52Speaker 4: dinner one night and they invite him in. And once
- 14:56Speaker 4: they invite him in, they try all the trips on him.
- 14:57Speaker 4: They throw garlic at him, then they get him to
- 14:59Speaker 4: eat some g garlic. They put a mirror in front
- 15:01Speaker 4: of him, you know, because then I feel they throw
- 15:05Speaker 4: holy water on him and nothing happens. He eats the garlic,
- 15:09Speaker 4: he sees his reflection, the holy water does nothing. And
- 15:13Speaker 4: then at the end when he reveals himself, he's like, nigga,
- 15:16Speaker 4: y'all inviting me in. Nothing works after you invite me.
- 15:18Speaker 4: And so it's like, I think that's going with that
- 15:20Speaker 4: same type of rules set here where unless they're inside,
- 15:24Speaker 4: it doesn't work like that, you know what I mean.
- 15:26Speaker 4: It's like it's it's working, but it ain't working like
- 15:29Speaker 4: you know that potential, yes, because like the Asian woman
- 15:33Speaker 4: was about to bounce, you know, she was like, but
- 15:36Speaker 4: she was, I mean, man's.
- 15:38Speaker 5: Did eight minutes to her and she was still considering.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Also attributed that to the fact that one her what
- 15:45Speaker 2: was her husband was taking her she was already deeply
- 15:49Speaker 2: you know, beside herself about what was happening. They threatened
- 15:51Speaker 2: their child, So I just thought she was long gone.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Forget the fucking glamor. She was fucking gone out of it.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Out of her mind at that point because it was
- 16:00Speaker 2: so much that just happened to her in a short
- 16:01Speaker 2: span of time to.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Fuck up her mind.
- 16:03Speaker 4: Yes, but man was still getting eight and she was
- 16:05Speaker 4: not that concerned. There was some glamoring going on. And
- 16:13Speaker 4: then the other thing that I didn't want to distruss
- 16:15Speaker 4: during the spoiler free part, and that goes back to
- 16:18Speaker 4: the river of music and everything was the appearance by
- 16:21Speaker 4: the legend Buddy Guy at the end, which blew my
- 16:26Speaker 4: mind because as you know, Buddy is one of those
- 16:29Speaker 4: people who is a big influence on Hendrix. He is
- 16:31Speaker 4: a blues legend. I honestly did not know the brother
- 16:34Speaker 4: was still alive. So I was just so happy because
- 16:37Speaker 4: I see his name in the credits, I'm like, Buddy Guy.
- 16:39Speaker 4: And then he's you know, the old due on screen
- 16:41Speaker 4: playing blues. I'm like, oh, this's fucking Buddy Guy. Because
- 16:43Speaker 4: I don't even know what he looked like at this point,
- 16:45Speaker 4: and so I was like, oh, nah, that's Buddy Guy.
- 16:47Speaker 4: You know, and so that was just so great because
- 16:49Speaker 4: you get to see, you know, the living representation of
- 16:53Speaker 4: this river of music, who is you know, from that
- 16:56Speaker 4: era and is still here. That was just so dope.
- 17:00Speaker 4: And to have that actor playing him, and you know,
- 17:03Speaker 4: it's like Buddy's playing you know, a character. He's not
- 17:05Speaker 4: Buddy Guy in.
- 17:06Speaker 2: The film by Miles Katon.
- 17:10Speaker 4: When my man said Sammy that one time, I was
- 17:13Speaker 4: cracking up, yeah the Vampire when he was like, Sammy.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Is so funny. They're so funny.
- 17:21Speaker 4: But like I say, you have got You're gonna have
- 17:23Speaker 4: to watch The Lost Boys after this because it's like
- 17:25Speaker 4: it just goes because what's his name? Keifer Sutherland is
- 17:29Speaker 4: the head vampire. So you want to talk about a
- 17:30Speaker 4: charismatic asshole, you know, young Keifer, like young pretty Heifer,
- 17:35Speaker 4: you know, doing his full on keeper like yeah it is,
- 17:39Speaker 4: you know, it's one of the things. And so yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 17:42Speaker 4: but no, that having Buddy Guy in this movie and
- 17:44Speaker 4: then just that, like I said, I could talk forever
- 17:46Speaker 4: about that scene and the music going from blues to
- 17:50Speaker 4: hip hop, you know, to Africa to seeing the like
- 17:54Speaker 4: dancers from West Africa, to see just all the type
- 17:57Speaker 4: of things and how the music. You know, you know,
- 18:00Speaker 4: I was, you know, in love with whatever, but I
- 18:02Speaker 4: you know, I give the man his prop and how
- 18:04Speaker 4: he blended the blues and you hear the twerk come in,
- 18:07Speaker 4: You hear all the different range of everything. You see
- 18:10Speaker 4: the guitar player who's like a little hindred to little
- 18:13Speaker 4: Bootsy Collins in there.
- 18:15Speaker 5: You know, it was just it was beautiful. That was beautiful.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Yeah, And that's the scene I was referencing in the
- 18:21Speaker 2: Spoilly Free part of our review, just about what actually
- 18:24Speaker 2: made me cry.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Okay, I wasn't tearing. I was crying.
- 18:28Speaker 2: And again just being sensitive to music and for el
- 18:35Speaker 2: sas is a lot the sonics, just being sensitive to
- 18:38Speaker 2: how sonically this is, how it hits your body, and
- 18:44Speaker 2: how it evokes thoughts and memories and emotions. And then
- 18:48Speaker 2: for Ryan and Ludwig and everyone else involved in that scene,
- 18:52Speaker 2: to tie it into di diaspora and tie it into
- 18:55Speaker 2: our story. And again I'm referring to Black Americans, but
- 18:58Speaker 2: to tie into that blackness of culture, and of course
- 19:02Speaker 2: then the extended aspera where we all come from our ancestors.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Like using that aspect of as mentioned before, the power
- 19:10Speaker 2: of Black people and the ways that some of us
- 19:13Speaker 2: are so gifted in inclined that we break the physical
- 19:17Speaker 2: and spiritual barriers and space time barriers through music, nigga
- 19:23Speaker 2: who like And then to turn around and personify that
- 19:27Speaker 2: very thought and show me on screen and that you
- 19:30Speaker 2: said it what I was thinking, just about the fact
- 19:32Speaker 2: that then to seamlessly blend different music together like floating
- 19:37Speaker 2: around the room where you are them niggas was having
- 19:41Speaker 2: the best time of day life and that as they
- 19:43Speaker 2: call it, the juke joint in the club right, think
- 19:45Speaker 2: of as a millennial, think of you sitting there with
- 19:48Speaker 2: your business casual on in wherever club love or whatever,
- 19:53Speaker 2: and you having the best night of your life and
- 19:56Speaker 2: you are dancing and you are just in flow and
- 19:59Speaker 2: you're and just to say, yeah, in those situations when
- 20:02Speaker 2: it's that deep and connected, your ancestors is right there.
- 20:07Speaker 2: That shit, that shit, just everything I'm saying is what
- 20:11Speaker 2: like literally all those thoughts entering my head as I
- 20:14Speaker 2: was watching this, and I was just in tears.
- 20:16Speaker 1: And then what made it like all of that's made
- 20:18Speaker 1: it so so so so powerful. And then the cherry
- 20:21Speaker 1: on top was when because there were two people in
- 20:24Speaker 1: there that were Asian or Chinese descent. Their ancestors were
- 20:27Speaker 1: there too.
- 20:28Speaker 2: And that's what I'm talking about when I say black
- 20:31Speaker 2: people will never do what the fuck our pressors do
- 20:34Speaker 2: to us.
- 20:34Speaker 1: And we are not the fucking.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Saying we don't exclude, We don't do that shit. That
- 20:40Speaker 2: shit is not natural, that shit is on some evil
- 20:42Speaker 2: blood shit. I'm telling you we when this is natural
- 20:45Speaker 2: to us. If our people, our people will get the
- 20:48Speaker 2: shine that they need and the image. If there's other
- 20:50Speaker 2: people around, we're gonna feature them too. Like that was
- 20:53Speaker 2: a conscious decision, right, you have two and I don't
- 20:57Speaker 2: know if the people in real life are Chinese. Uh
- 20:59Speaker 2: let me see it's Yaobo Child, yes, and then his wife,
- 21:02Speaker 2: the lady who played his wife, Legion le Gray Child.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Yes.
- 21:07Speaker 2: For them to have their culture also just expressed and
- 21:12Speaker 2: so beautifully and in flow with black culture. Like and
- 21:15Speaker 2: we always talk about that what they said, the black
- 21:17Speaker 2: and yellow persuasion, the black and yellow.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Connection, right, Like to see that, like because you know
- 21:22Speaker 1: Ryan said that.
- 21:22Speaker 4: He was writing it Jan Chinese boy, Like there are
- 21:26Speaker 4: so many for him to.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Say, Yo, we're in it in the thirties and they're
- 21:31Speaker 1: in this town.
- 21:32Speaker 2: That's all black and the supermarket. The general store is
- 21:37Speaker 2: owned by the Chinese people, like they are in our
- 21:40Speaker 2: neighbor We all together, the neighborhoods.
- 21:42Speaker 1: We grow up together, we live together.
- 21:44Speaker 2: You understand, Like that shit was for it to be
- 21:47Speaker 2: set in that time frame, it was reflective of modern times.
- 21:50Speaker 1: It was anyway, I'm going off the deep end now.
- 21:53Speaker 2: I'm just saying that scene and art and everything about
- 21:56Speaker 2: like the integration of cultures or the intersections of cultures
- 22:01Speaker 2: really touched me.
- 22:03Speaker 5: I think I was more sitting there.
- 22:05Speaker 4: Like damn it.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Like you said, you're not the only one with the idea.
- 22:13Speaker 2: And yes, it was represented on a different medium, but
- 22:16Speaker 2: I know, but no, no, and you know, but honestly,
- 22:23Speaker 2: the way it's done in Hendricks is different, Like it
- 22:26Speaker 2: may be the similar thing, but it's not execute it
- 22:31Speaker 2: the same way.
- 22:32Speaker 4: No, it's not, because it's different medium.
- 22:34Speaker 2: I say that to say, I don't think anyone will
- 22:36Speaker 2: really truly call you guys fighters or anything.
- 22:38Speaker 5: No, because I don't think.
- 22:39Speaker 4: I mean, one sentence is going to reach a lot
- 22:42Speaker 4: more people than interested. Wow, let's keep it a buck.
- 22:46Speaker 5: You know, this is a big, big movie, you know.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I just think that aside it being two totally different jobres.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I think you'll be fine.
- 22:54Speaker 4: No, I'm fine.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I don't I don't know mediums.
- 22:57Speaker 4: I think mediums were going to make that comparison, or
- 22:59Speaker 4: you know, there are a few other people will you know, definitely,
- 23:02Speaker 4: people wh've seen both will probably make the comparison. But
- 23:05Speaker 4: like I said, I'm just also happy to see that
- 23:08Speaker 4: idea express more because something that is like, you know,
- 23:10Speaker 4: when you talk about music, I remember, I'm you know,
- 23:12Speaker 4: this is my life, like this is all I do
- 23:13Speaker 4: and think, breathe, live, and that idea is something that
- 23:17Speaker 4: I've thought, brie've lived since the beginning, and I've always
- 23:20Speaker 4: tried to explain to people, like especially the era that
- 23:23Speaker 4: I came up in as a DJ, every party was
- 23:26Speaker 4: like that. You know, we didn't just play hip hop
- 23:30Speaker 4: or whatever, you know, we played everything because you know
- 23:34Speaker 4: that's hip hop started as a music form where the
- 23:38Speaker 4: original hip hop DJs weren't There was no hip hop records,
- 23:41Speaker 4: so all the records they were playing were other forms
- 23:44Speaker 4: of music that they made into hip hop. And so
- 23:47Speaker 4: that was the approach that we took, you know, especially
- 23:50Speaker 4: the generations that I came up with, it was like
- 23:52Speaker 4: you played everything for when there wasn't many hip hop
- 23:54Speaker 4: records still, you know what I mean. So to fill
- 23:56Speaker 4: up a party, you had to play some Michael Jackson,
- 23:58Speaker 4: you had to play some gap band, you had to
- 24:00Speaker 4: you know, go back, and you had to teach people.
- 24:02Speaker 4: You know. That was what we were always about, teaching
- 24:05Speaker 4: and showing you the past and showing you the future
- 24:07Speaker 4: through that same route. And that's why we put that,
- 24:11Speaker 4: you know, that's why I put that idea into Hindrance
- 24:13Speaker 4: because it's just how I've always lived through music. And
- 24:15Speaker 4: it's once again, like I keep saying, this one form
- 24:19Speaker 4: of music. It changes forms, do the technology and thing,
- 24:23Speaker 4: but we're always making blues and you can put this
- 24:26Speaker 4: you know, there's a Thurrool line. You can play all
- 24:28Speaker 4: of this shit together. It all works together because it's
- 24:31Speaker 4: all black music. And I just love to see that.
- 24:34Speaker 4: That was a really beautiful like you know, we put
- 24:37Speaker 4: it in the physical form. To see it in audio
- 24:39Speaker 4: and visual form. It's really dope. And it'll really get
- 24:42Speaker 4: across this idea to a lot of people, which I'm
- 24:46Speaker 4: just always happy about. More people will start to understand
- 24:49Speaker 4: the death and power of black music like that was
- 24:52Speaker 4: our thing in Hindrance We've talked about how black music
- 24:55Speaker 4: fuels our revolution, and that's what I want more people
- 25:00Speaker 4: but understand is how black music is like it just
- 25:04Speaker 4: it's the center of black culture in America. It is,
- 25:09Speaker 4: you know, it is everything to our culture, into our
- 25:12Speaker 4: life and that anything that expresses that, I'm just fully behind.
- 25:16Speaker 2: And black music is music, global, global force.
- 25:23Speaker 1: That's you said the same thing in a different way.
- 25:27Speaker 4: All music is black music. It all comes from Africa.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Fan, Yeah, all music and black music. Black music is music.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Listen this again, just the power of music and what
- 25:39Speaker 2: it could bring and what it could open up and
- 25:41Speaker 2: the doors another reason why why I'm always just so
- 25:45Speaker 2: deeply interested in.
- 25:48Speaker 1: What it means too.
- 25:49Speaker 2: And also just in this particular time frame, like as
- 25:53Speaker 2: a black person like you purposely being silenced from doing
- 25:56Speaker 2: things like playing music right, the music of your people right,
- 26:00Speaker 2: let alone the music you make up right then and
- 26:02Speaker 2: there because you're looking for solace in something, right, are
- 26:05Speaker 2: you looking for a different world than what you're currently in?
- 26:09Speaker 1: You do that through the music.
- 26:10Speaker 5: Who was that who played uh, Sammy's father.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Well the Preacher, I know that, but saw Williams.
- 26:20Speaker 5: That was Williams And that was okay.
- 26:23Speaker 4: Williams Leon like slightly resemble each other.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I wasn't you know they do slightly.
- 26:30Speaker 5: Especially as they gotten older because Leon.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Is like le.
- 26:35Speaker 2: So I always had had hair and so I don't
- 26:38Speaker 2: know if he sings anymore, but I know he was
- 26:40Speaker 2: a poetry and he was like we did R.
- 26:43Speaker 1: And B for a little bit too.
- 26:44Speaker 4: I didn't know that I know he did the poetry
- 26:46Speaker 4: was first singing, probably singing poetry, you know, like, yeah, just.
- 26:52Speaker 2: The maybe two more things for me to mention before
- 26:55Speaker 2: I'm done, Just as I mentioned, just the inclusion of
- 26:59Speaker 2: cultures and stuff like that, and even though it was short,
- 27:01Speaker 2: it was brief.
- 27:02Speaker 1: The inclusion of the indigenous people's.
- 27:04Speaker 5: That I was mad they didn't come back around.
- 27:08Speaker 2: I wish there was more, And perhaps I was just
- 27:10Speaker 2: something that got cut and the time or whatever, but
- 27:14Speaker 2: like I would have loved to see more of that
- 27:16Speaker 2: because to be wander like they're in Mississippi in this
- 27:20Speaker 2: in this if I'm not mistaken, are they in Mississippi
- 27:23Speaker 2: in this setting?
- 27:25Speaker 5: I know they left Chicago and came back to the South.
- 27:29Speaker 2: The reason also why I'm saying that is because they're
- 27:32Speaker 2: at least on im D. I am DBB wrong, but
- 27:34Speaker 2: it says Mississippi chalk tall chalk.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Taw orseback Scout. Okay, so I was trying to.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Remember was it all centered to Mississippi right or did
- 27:43Speaker 2: they even say They did say where they were. Yeah,
- 27:47Speaker 2: but anyway, I really, you know, the first nations being
- 27:52Speaker 2: representative like.
- 27:54Speaker 1: That, you have to Yeah, they were there.
- 27:57Speaker 2: They are with black people, you know what I'm saying,
- 27:59Speaker 2: Like the people we all were together in this, We've
- 28:03Speaker 2: always been together.
- 28:05Speaker 4: I always point to people to have.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Them there, like, yeah, they're there too.
- 28:08Speaker 4: Yeah. And I always point out when people are like,
- 28:11Speaker 4: don't understand, you know, like Native Americans are First Nation
- 28:17Speaker 4: and why it's so important to have them in this.
- 28:19Speaker 5: I always asked, do you.
- 28:20Speaker 4: Know any hmm? And just and and and why don't
- 28:25Speaker 4: you know any? Because they didn't enslave them, you know,
- 28:34Speaker 4: they they had an other solution for them. And that's
- 28:36Speaker 4: why you know, a nation that went from millions to
- 28:39Speaker 4: however many there are. Now you know a nation that
- 28:43Speaker 4: you know covered this nation and people covered this continent
- 28:46Speaker 4: in people. And now do you know any Native you know,
- 28:49Speaker 4: First Nation people?
- 28:52Speaker 1: That's just fuck up it is.
- 28:53Speaker 4: And that's what I mean. That was beautiful and I
- 28:56Speaker 4: wish they'd come back around. I wanted to see them
- 28:58Speaker 4: whip some vampire ass.
- 29:00Speaker 2: That and I just I just love seeing that representation
- 29:04Speaker 2: in film because you don't get a lot of it
- 29:05Speaker 2: in general. And to see, like you said, to see
- 29:07Speaker 2: that they was there to whip ass and the ants
- 29:10Speaker 2: was on the run. Yes, man's was on the run
- 29:12Speaker 2: from that, because if they caught his ass, it would
- 29:14Speaker 2: have been a fucking like that ship was the phenomenon
- 29:18Speaker 2: been a great prequel.
- 29:19Speaker 4: Maybe maybe you know, one day somebody does the prequel
- 29:21Speaker 4: and shows because you know the vampires. It was like
- 29:25Speaker 4: he was running and burning like they had his ass running.
- 29:31Speaker 1: He would have because they didn't let his ass in.
- 29:34Speaker 4: That would have been it for what happened, you know
- 29:36Speaker 4: what happened before yo.
- 29:39Speaker 2: And I just the last thing, I just really wanted
- 29:41Speaker 2: to give a shout out to Jamie Lawson, who played Pearlin,
- 29:44Speaker 2: the love interests of Sammy. First of all, she's I was.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Every time she went scream, I went like this, like
- 29:52Speaker 2: my mouth dropped.
- 29:53Speaker 1: She is so beautiful, No, she's her.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Her beauty is just reminded me of my lif That's point,
- 30:00Speaker 2: just of how beautiful we looked in Centers. We as
- 30:04Speaker 2: a people are skin Most of the people on screen
- 30:08Speaker 2: were dark skin or or you know, darker brown whatever,
- 30:11Speaker 2: And to see the melanin richness like we were shining.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I ain't talking about Reese. I'm talking about you,
- 30:20Speaker 1: not in a belly way fascine on the face.
- 30:24Speaker 2: I'm talking about our light. We were literally glowing on screen.
- 30:30Speaker 2: And it takes directors and people like writing coogle it
- 30:34Speaker 2: to bring that out.
- 30:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:36Speaker 1: So that's all I got to say about Sinnence.
- 30:39Speaker 2: I fuck with it A plus y'all won.
- 30:44Speaker 4: Yeah, I fully agree. Like I said, I want everyone
- 30:47Speaker 4: to see this film. I think it's the best film
- 30:49Speaker 4: I've seen this year. I fully expect it to be
- 30:52Speaker 4: on my top ten list at the end of the year.
- 30:55Speaker 4: And as I was walking away from the theater, I
- 30:57Speaker 4: was like, yo, you know, because Mickey seventeen is winning
- 30:59Speaker 4: a movie movies where I feel like it's gonna be
- 31:01Speaker 4: on people's top ten lists and Centers ain't. And I'm
- 31:03Speaker 4: gonna be real tight at the end of the year
- 31:05Speaker 4: when I see that happen. So I'm looking at y'all,
- 31:07Speaker 4: you know, because y'all look funny out there, just giving
- 31:10Speaker 4: movies hype because it's a great director.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Yeah, but I.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Actually have well remember Mickey bombed, so you don't have
- 31:16Speaker 2: to worry about that.
- 31:16Speaker 4: But no, but don't mean bomb don't. You will still
- 31:19Speaker 4: be putting them all.
- 31:20Speaker 1: But it's not popular, how about that?
- 31:22Speaker 2: But from everything I'm seeing, I think Sinners is gonna
- 31:26Speaker 2: do it in.
- 31:27Speaker 4: It's gonna be the number one movie this weekend. It's
- 31:29Speaker 4: gonna be big money.
- 31:30Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 31:30Speaker 1: It first of all they've been and it was getting.
- 31:34Speaker 4: On all the money.
- 31:35Speaker 1: They have been.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Promoing this movie for like a year and a half,
- 31:39Speaker 2: and I said, nik of, y'all, don't stop showing me
- 31:42Speaker 2: a Sinners ig ad in twenty.
- 31:45Speaker 4: Twenty three everywhere I went, everywhere I went yesterday.
- 31:49Speaker 2: And it's so funny cause we're always complaining like there's
- 31:51Speaker 2: not enough promo, No, like get this ship out my
- 31:53Speaker 2: face and drop them over.
- 31:55Speaker 1: And it wasn't because I was I was just like,
- 31:56Speaker 1: drop the movie, drop the movie. They dropped it in.
- 31:59Speaker 2: Holy shit, No, I think sentences, Yeah, it's gonna be
- 32:02Speaker 2: number one, but it's gonna do it. It had had the
- 32:04Speaker 2: big buzz of I don't know if it's saying as
- 32:07Speaker 2: if it's true as of today, but it debuted with
- 32:09Speaker 2: one hundred percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Yeah, I'm gonna you
- 32:12Speaker 2: and I are probably gonna be contributing more to that. Yeah,
- 32:15Speaker 2: maybe that ninety nine. Now, I don't know it's gonna
- 32:17Speaker 2: be one hater. It always is, but nigga, they y'all better.
- 32:22Speaker 1: See this fucking film.
- 32:23Speaker 4: There used to be this one black dude who people
- 32:25Speaker 4: would wait for his review because he was always like
- 32:27Speaker 4: the biggest hater and he worked. He like it wasn't
- 32:30Speaker 4: New York Times, but he was like big time, you know,
- 32:32Speaker 4: and his reviews would always mess.
- 32:35Speaker 5: Up the perfect scores.
- 32:36Speaker 4: So I don't know if he's still writing though, but
- 32:39Speaker 4: now it's definitely getting thumbs up. For me, I want
- 32:41Speaker 4: everyone to see this immediately, see it again, Like Todd
- 32:46Speaker 4: Danna said, see it on the biggest spring, you can
- 32:48Speaker 4: see it on. No It's it's pure thumbs up. It's
- 32:52Speaker 4: definitely and it's a vampire film enthusiast. It's going to
- 32:55Speaker 4: my top five. You know, I'm a lost boys at
- 32:57Speaker 4: it where that's my number one, But you know what
- 33:01Speaker 4: I mean much else for I would like be like,
- 33:05Speaker 4: you know, it's above this as far as Empire movies
- 33:07Speaker 4: after Lost Boys, I put you know, centers don't have
- 33:09Speaker 4: to battle for the number two spot with everything else.
- 33:13Speaker 4: I like the more. I like Dustal down, yeah, because
- 33:17Speaker 4: it's like it's like I said, it has the same plot,
- 33:19Speaker 4: but it like the blackness of this just you know,
- 33:22Speaker 4: puts it so far, you know, leagues ahead of Dustal Dawn,
- 33:25Speaker 4: dustle Don had Salma Hia that stuff, you know, big
- 33:29Speaker 4: off for that.
- 33:29Speaker 5: Look that was prime Salmon Hia days.
- 33:32Speaker 1: I understand.
- 33:36Speaker 4: I get just like you know, Shorty in this one,
- 33:38Speaker 4: but this is you know, this had I know what's
- 33:41Speaker 4: an actress and name.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Again Sam's girl Jamie Lawson Woomy is a woom is
- 33:48Speaker 2: also Yeah, incredible.
- 33:50Speaker 5: But you know I appreciated all the love scenes in
- 33:54Speaker 5: this film as well.
- 33:56Speaker 4: I definitely did.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Yeah, And I was right, there's a one hater, got
- 34:01Speaker 2: it because of that ninety nine percent right now, which
- 34:02Speaker 2: I'm still looking at one hundred percent. So yeah, in
- 34:05Speaker 2: any case that I think that's it.
