- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Playfake, go to roll right, dumps it off into the
- 0:07Speaker 2: right flast to Michael Bumpers, who bounces off a one
- 0:10Speaker 2: tackler gets inside the forty down of the thirty five
- 0:13Speaker 2: yard line.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Powered by seahawks dot Com.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Matt pumpfake's looking at the goal line, he throws it
- 0:17Speaker 2: into the en zone.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Touchdown, Say Hawks, it's Michael Bumpas with a diving catching
- 0:22Speaker 3: the end zone. A ten yard touchdown reception for Bumpus,
- 0:26Speaker 3: and the kid out of Washington State has found himself
- 0:29Speaker 3: a place.
- 0:30Speaker 4: On this team.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Now here's your host, Nasa Jovie.
- 0:34Speaker 4: Welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk.
- 0:36Speaker 5: The Seahawk getting ready to take on the Carolina Panthers
- 0:39Speaker 5: at Lumenfield this Sunday. Hawk's coming off a big win
- 0:42Speaker 5: over the Detroit Lions, making the record one in one.
- 0:46Speaker 5: But before we jump into those Panthers, want to give
- 0:48Speaker 5: you aick a little update from head coach Pete Carroll.
- 0:50Speaker 5: Little injury updates just fresh off the podium. Good news
- 0:53Speaker 5: on most fronts Riek wooland unfortunately, though it's pretty sore,
- 0:56Speaker 5: he's not gonna practice today and it's gonna be tough recovery,
- 1:00Speaker 5: crazy recovery for him to make it back on Sunday,
- 1:03Speaker 5: But coach said there will be no IR consideration, so
- 1:06Speaker 5: that's good. Whatever he's dealing with, he should be able
- 1:08Speaker 5: to come back pretty soon. Then you got boy A
- 1:10Speaker 5: Mafe and Devin Bush both should be back and ready
- 1:14Speaker 5: to go on Sunday, which is a good sign.
- 1:16Speaker 4: And DK Metcalf is also okay.
- 1:18Speaker 5: I know he banged up on Sunday on that catch
- 1:21Speaker 5: right by the goal on so he should be good
- 1:23Speaker 5: to go on Sunday. And the one really unfortunate news
- 1:25Speaker 5: today is Mike Morris is going to IR needs shoulder surgery.
- 1:28Speaker 5: He's gonna be done for this season, which is a
- 1:30Speaker 5: tough pill to swallow.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Bump.
- 1:32Speaker 5: We were just talking to him on our show on
- 1:33Speaker 5: Hawks Live, and it's sad to see that kid going IR.
- 1:37Speaker 6: Yeah, man, he was feeling good about his game, about
- 1:39Speaker 6: his role on this team.
- 1:41Speaker 7: That's the business man you never really know.
- 1:44Speaker 6: That's why you have backups and hope he gets healthy,
- 1:47Speaker 6: but yeah, sad, sad to see.
- 1:49Speaker 5: And obviously we're still waiting to see on the tackles.
- 1:51Speaker 5: But Abe lucas we know, is gonna be on IR
- 1:54Speaker 5: for four weeks, so we'll see about Cross, but could
- 1:58Speaker 5: be worse news. Obviously happy to hear that break one
- 2:01Speaker 5: is not seriously hurt and that DK and Boffe and
- 2:04Speaker 5: Bush should be back. So let's waste no more time.
- 2:06Speaker 5: Let's get into who we're playing, The Carolina Panthers.
- 2:13Speaker 4: What's untap?
- 2:14Speaker 5: Carolina Panthers ozh in two last place in the NFC
- 2:18Speaker 5: South Bump. They lost twenty four to ten in Atlanta
- 2:20Speaker 5: Falcons and lost this past Monday night twenty to seventeen
- 2:24Speaker 5: to of the New Orleans Saints, and it's it's been
- 2:26Speaker 5: a slow start for the Bryce Young era Bump. Two
- 2:30Speaker 5: divisional games to start the season, Panthers have only scored
- 2:33Speaker 5: two touchdowns in a total of twenty seven points.
- 2:37Speaker 4: Bump. What did you see from the Panthers in the
- 2:39Speaker 4: Saints on Monday night?
- 2:41Speaker 2: Ah?
- 2:41Speaker 6: Man, it was. It was a slow start. It was
- 2:43Speaker 6: a sloppy game, and at halftime it was six to three.
- 2:46Speaker 6: The Saints had the lead, but in the first half, yeah,
- 2:48Speaker 6: six point punts, had three field goals and two turnovers.
- 2:52Speaker 6: Not looking good for both sides of the ball. After
- 2:55Speaker 6: the Panthers tied the game at six. The Saints put
- 2:57Speaker 6: together their best drive of the game. They went ten
- 3:00Speaker 6: play seventy five yards, paying off with a two yard
- 3:02Speaker 6: touchdown by Tony Jones Junior, making the score thirteen to six.
- 3:06Speaker 6: That was set up by one yard one hand catch
- 3:09Speaker 6: by be talented Chris Olave.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Man.
- 3:11Speaker 6: This guy look is good. I don't think he gets
- 3:13Speaker 6: enough attention out here out West. I think Alave is
- 3:15Speaker 6: a good ballplayer.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Yeah, no, he's really good. I mean, I would hate
- 3:20Speaker 4: to say this.
- 3:20Speaker 5: I don't even want to mention mention my former inter
- 3:22Speaker 5: in Nishan Kandaputty, who is a big Ohio State guy.
- 3:26Speaker 5: And no, man, there they are receiver you right now right,
- 3:29Speaker 5: I mean obviously Jackson Smith and Jigba Olave, Harris Marvin
- 3:34Speaker 5: Harrison's kid. I mean it's they're They're legit. And Olave
- 3:37Speaker 5: is a good player.
- 3:38Speaker 7: Yeah, man, Alave is dope.
- 3:40Speaker 6: I love to see him do his thing, and I
- 3:43Speaker 6: like his let's him speak after the game, and it's
- 3:46Speaker 6: just the way he handles himself and all that is
- 3:47Speaker 6: good to go too. So then after that two drives later,
- 3:50Speaker 6: the Panthers would have to settle for field go after
- 3:52Speaker 6: standing or stalling out on the red zone, making make
- 3:55Speaker 6: it a four point game. Then the Saints would answer
- 3:57Speaker 6: on in sew and drive with a sixth place seventy
- 3:59Speaker 6: nine drive in two minutes any with a Tory Jones
- 4:03Speaker 6: touchdown thanks to a forty five yard completion and too
- 4:05Speaker 6: rashid shot heed from Derek Carr. And that catch was nice.
- 4:08Speaker 7: On the sideline hands. It was beautiful.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Man.
- 4:11Speaker 7: It looks natural out there.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:14Speaker 5: Man, uh, you know, he's a good player, first of all.
- 4:18Speaker 5: And Derek Carr kind of made a slow start in
- 4:21Speaker 5: New Orleans. I'm not really sure what to see. I
- 4:22Speaker 5: think that's a good move for them overall. They've started
- 4:25Speaker 5: really slow this year. But there were some really good
- 4:27Speaker 5: plays by him. And then when you got when you
- 4:29Speaker 5: get into Bryce Young, Bump. He finally finally gets them
- 4:32Speaker 5: into the end zone with eleven plays seventy five yard drive,
- 4:35Speaker 5: connecting with former Vikings receiver Adam Thielen for a three
- 4:39Speaker 5: yard touchdown. I forgot he was there, Bump. I'm not
- 4:41Speaker 5: gonna lie too. I did too, I too, I see
- 4:44Speaker 5: you know on Mond and them, I'm like, man, and
- 4:45Speaker 5: then I forget he's been in the league for take
- 4:47Speaker 5: a decade, mainly for ten years, and we'll see about
- 4:51Speaker 5: how this didn't ends up in Carolina. But yeah, he
- 4:53Speaker 5: did that, and then he caught the two point conversion
- 4:55Speaker 5: made a twenty seventeen game with one sixteen left in
- 4:57Speaker 5: the fourth quarter. The Saints, however, would recover or the
- 5:00Speaker 5: on site kick and steal the game up with a
- 5:01Speaker 5: couple of knees. Bryce Don't finished the game twenty two
- 5:04Speaker 5: of thirty three, one hundred and fifty three yards, one touchdown,
- 5:07Speaker 5: lost the fumble, and was sacked four times. Miles Sanders
- 5:11Speaker 5: held the forty three yards and fourteen carries in thieland
- 5:14Speaker 5: who were just talking about, led them and receiving with
- 5:17Speaker 5: fifty four yards on seven receptions.
- 5:19Speaker 4: Bump.
- 5:20Speaker 5: This offense, I mean, I'll be straight, has not been
- 5:23Speaker 5: good to start the year. It's been kind of a
- 5:25Speaker 5: struggle to watch, which could be good news for the Seahawks.
- 5:28Speaker 4: Obviously, you don't take them lightly.
- 5:30Speaker 5: They came into looping field and won last year, bump,
- 5:32Speaker 5: but kind of a rough go for them offensively.
- 5:35Speaker 7: Yeah, it was a rough goal.
- 5:37Speaker 6: And there was a play where Bryce Young lined up
- 5:40Speaker 6: over the guard to receive a snap and Miles Sanders
- 5:42Speaker 6: had to get me a little nudge, like, nah, rookie,
- 5:45Speaker 6: you're in the wrong spot. That is the epitome of
- 5:48Speaker 6: what this offense has been so far. But he's young,
- 5:50Speaker 6: you know, he is a young quarterback in I don't
- 5:52Speaker 6: expect young quarterbacks to do much.
- 5:55Speaker 7: So I think we're gonna talk about it.
- 5:57Speaker 6: That's why when I hear that he ain't practicing and
- 5:59Speaker 6: we might getting Andy Dahl, and I'm like, oh, dang,
- 6:02Speaker 6: give me the rookie.
- 6:04Speaker 7: Give me the rookie instead.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Yeah, man, I mean, gosh, I don't know.
- 6:08Speaker 5: We've had a couple of quarterbacks, random ones come in
- 6:11Speaker 5: here and backups beat the Seahawks over the US a
- 6:12Speaker 5: couple of years whether it was Colt McCoy, yeah, you know,
- 6:15Speaker 5: a couple of years ago it was by my blake,
- 6:17Speaker 5: guy named Huntley from Arizona, so from LA.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I know. So we got some wounds up here,
- 6:24Speaker 4: bump man. Yeah, give me the rookie please.
- 6:26Speaker 7: Yes.
- 6:27Speaker 5: The other thing about then they lost Shaq Thompson, former
- 6:30Speaker 5: UB standout. He's done for the year, so that's a
- 6:32Speaker 5: bummer for them. He's definitely a big guy in that
- 6:34Speaker 5: locker room, A veteran leader, and then they already lost
- 6:37Speaker 5: first round pick J. C. Horn to a hamstring injury
- 6:39Speaker 5: that landed him on ir Horns only played eighteen of
- 6:42Speaker 5: the possible thirty four games in his career since being
- 6:45Speaker 5: selected eighth overall.
- 6:46Speaker 4: So they're a little dinged up bump.
- 6:48Speaker 5: When we look at this head to head comparison, you know, offensively,
- 6:53Speaker 5: the Seahawks made a jump. Obviously, when you have a
- 6:55Speaker 5: rough Week one game, it's not gonna look great, but
- 6:57Speaker 5: they did make a jump through up to twenty fifth
- 6:59Speaker 5: in total offense, twenty six in the rushing offense with
- 7:02Speaker 5: eighty three yards a game, seventeenth in pass offense, and
- 7:06Speaker 5: then thirteenth in points per game at twenty five points.
- 7:10Speaker 5: And then on the flip side of comparison to the Panthers,
- 7:12Speaker 5: they have one of the worst offenses in the league.
- 7:14Speaker 5: According to the statistics, again it's only been two weeks.
- 7:17Speaker 5: They are twenty eighth in total offense two hundred and
- 7:20Speaker 5: six yards a game. They do run the rock okay,
- 7:22Speaker 5: one hundred twenty seven yards game. That gets them ninth.
- 7:25Speaker 5: Pass offense, they are thirty two bump. How many teams
- 7:28Speaker 5: are in the NFL.
- 7:29Speaker 7: It's about thirty two. Thanks.
- 7:31Speaker 5: Yeah, So they're doing at the slowest clip at one
- 7:33Speaker 5: hundred and thirty three yards a game and then points
- 7:35Speaker 5: per game thirteen and a half that is tied for thirtieth.
- 7:38Speaker 5: So on paper, the Panthers really struggle. We kind of
- 7:42Speaker 5: alluded to it. They got some good players, but they're
- 7:44Speaker 5: young and they're gonna struggle to score points. And I
- 7:46Speaker 5: really hope the Seahawks can kind of keep that trend
- 7:48Speaker 5: going because they're gonna need to, especially with the rookie
- 7:51Speaker 5: quarterback coming into a tough environment.
- 7:53Speaker 6: Yeah, the Pantis can run the rock, you know, but
- 7:55Speaker 6: the Hawks have been good against the run this year,
- 7:57Speaker 6: so we'll see how that works out. Ain't bad though,
- 8:01Speaker 6: only giving up eighty one yards a game that's eighth
- 8:03Speaker 6: in the NFL. Their pass defense is really good, only
- 8:06Speaker 6: giving about a buck fifty game that's fourth in the NFL.
- 8:08Speaker 7: And rush defense, we'll see.
- 8:10Speaker 6: That's why I really think that the Hawks can get
- 8:12Speaker 6: going this week with the run, because the Panthers have
- 8:14Speaker 6: given up one hundred and thirty two yards per game
- 8:17Speaker 6: that is twenty fifth in the NFL. Time of possession,
- 8:20Speaker 6: They possessed the ball about thirty minutes a game, they've
- 8:22Speaker 6: been sacked six times to our three. I like that
- 8:25Speaker 6: ratio there, and they both have one interception, so it.
- 8:30Speaker 7: It's even in some areas as off in other areas.
- 8:33Speaker 6: But as you and I know, we do this podcast
- 8:34Speaker 6: every single year, around week four five, you know, you
- 8:37Speaker 6: start getting real numbers on teams and what they can do.
- 8:40Speaker 6: But yeah, you got a struggling rookie quarterback with a
- 8:43Speaker 6: good run game.
- 8:44Speaker 7: Let's see how the Hawks handle it.
- 8:46Speaker 5: Yeah, definitely on paper, it's a game. One of those
- 8:49Speaker 5: the difference a week can make. Now we're all of
- 8:51Speaker 5: a sudden, if the Seahawks lost last week, most people
- 8:53Speaker 5: be feeling a lot differently. But looking at this Panthers
- 8:55Speaker 5: team on paper definitely looks like a matchup the Seahawks
- 8:58Speaker 5: can win. But that's why they play the games, unfortunately.
- 9:02Speaker 5: That's a good segue.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Into knowing the history, no your history.
- 9:07Speaker 5: The Seahawks lead the all time series against the Panthers
- 9:10Speaker 5: ten to five. They're eight and four in the regular
- 9:12Speaker 5: season and two and one in the postseason. And these
- 9:14Speaker 5: teams aren't in the same division, but they've kind of
- 9:16Speaker 5: developed a little rivalry because they play each other so
- 9:18Speaker 5: often since twenty twelve. The Seahawks have played the Panthers
- 9:21Speaker 5: ten times. Unfortunately, yeah man, and that includes last year. Unfortunately,
- 9:26Speaker 5: the Seahawks dropped a rough one, losing thirty to twenty
- 9:29Speaker 5: four at home last December. For everything good that happened
- 9:32Speaker 5: last season, this was that tough stretch bump. This is
- 9:34Speaker 5: where the Seahawks lost I believe five or six games,
- 9:38Speaker 5: and several of them at home. And this was rough
- 9:41Speaker 5: from the jump. Gino and Smith was intercepted on the
- 9:43Speaker 5: seahawks first play from scrimmage. Panthers will scored the next play.
- 9:47Speaker 5: Then you add a punt, snap your fingers. Before you
- 9:49Speaker 5: know what, the Seahawks are down seventeen to zero. They
- 9:51Speaker 5: would make things interesting.
- 9:53Speaker 4: They trail. You bring it to twenty fourteen game at
- 9:56Speaker 4: the half.
- 9:57Speaker 5: After a field goal to start the third quarter, you're
- 9:59Speaker 5: thinking it's going to be okay. But then the Seahawks
- 10:01Speaker 5: will punt on their next three drives and the Panthers
- 10:03Speaker 5: would take advantage with two drives seventy plus yards and
- 10:05Speaker 5: two touchdowns.
- 10:07Speaker 4: The Seahawks were.
- 10:07Speaker 5: Score late, but it didn't really matter. And I mentioned
- 10:10Speaker 5: earlier about those backup quarterbacks kind of causing problems for
- 10:13Speaker 5: the Hawks over the year, Sam Darnold, he didn't really hurt.
- 10:17Speaker 4: The Seahawks, but he was.
- 10:19Speaker 5: He was there to hand the ball off to What
- 10:21Speaker 5: really hurt the Seahawks and was the Panthers run game
- 10:23Speaker 5: two hundred and twenty three yards on forty six carries.
- 10:26Speaker 5: Obviously not what the Seahawks are looking for, and you
- 10:29Speaker 5: alluded to it earlier. The Seahawks are stopping the run
- 10:32Speaker 5: and one of the best in the league at doing that.
- 10:33Speaker 5: So I'm hoping that it doesn't feel like last year bump,
- 10:36Speaker 5: because that felt like death by a thousand paper cuts.
- 10:40Speaker 7: Yeah, last year was tough, man.
- 10:41Speaker 6: You had a Hubbard who had his best game of
- 10:45Speaker 6: the year seventy four yards and one touchdown against the
- 10:48Speaker 6: Seahawks and really didn't do much after them.
- 10:50Speaker 7: So yeah, we don't need that.
- 10:52Speaker 6: Marki's Gilwin had a good day ninety five yards on
- 10:54Speaker 6: five receptions. Tyler Lockett and DK found the end zone
- 10:58Speaker 6: as well. So last year was the first went over
- 11:00Speaker 6: the Seahawks is twenty sixteen.
- 11:02Speaker 7: We're hoping it's.
- 11:04Speaker 4: A lot better this time around, no question about it.
- 11:07Speaker 5: No more wins at Lumitfield, please, But let's check in
- 11:09Speaker 5: with the rest of the division. What's the words and
- 11:16Speaker 5: the Seahawks or the NFC West champs again.
- 11:20Speaker 4: What's the word in the west On Hawk talk.
- 11:25Speaker 6: I'll tell you one thing, man, the Rams might be
- 11:27Speaker 6: better than what we thought. They played a very good
- 11:30Speaker 6: game against the forty nine ers. It was entertaining, man.
- 11:34Speaker 6: First half of football was great.
- 11:35Speaker 7: Man.
- 11:36Speaker 6: The combined score, excuse me, the both teams combining the
- 11:38Speaker 6: score on six of the seven possessions. As the game
- 11:41Speaker 6: was tied seventeen to seventeen. I saw that on the
- 11:44Speaker 6: big screen. I thought something's wrong Fox or whoever aired
- 11:47Speaker 6: that game, got a little typo going on.
- 11:48Speaker 7: But I was wrong, man, it was real.
- 11:50Speaker 6: At the beginning of the fourth it seem about the
- 11:51Speaker 6: forty nine er to control the game. They went seven
- 11:53Speaker 6: plays seventy four yards, ending with a Deebo Semuel eleven
- 11:56Speaker 6: yard touchdown made the score twenty seven to seventeen. But
- 11:59Speaker 6: the Rams answer with a field goal, forced to three
- 12:02Speaker 6: and out and then getting the ball back trailing twenty
- 12:04Speaker 6: seven and twenty with five minutes left in the game.
- 12:07Speaker 6: Fortunately Matthew Stafford he was intercepted looking for Van Jefferson.
- 12:12Speaker 6: Pretty much icy game, but both teams would add garbage
- 12:16Speaker 6: time field goals, and that was kind of suspect. You
- 12:18Speaker 6: see garbage time field goals? Did you see the spread?
- 12:21Speaker 6: The spread, they're kicking field goal. They're rushing to kick
- 12:25Speaker 6: a field goal with ten seconds left to talk about
- 12:27Speaker 6: the rams. Ten seconds left, the Russian to kick a
- 12:29Speaker 6: field goal. The game is over when the field goals kicked. Man,
- 12:32Speaker 6: I don't know, dog is there the script zeroscript?
- 12:36Speaker 5: The script is that, well, maybe it's something like, I
- 12:39Speaker 5: don't know. They just trying to work on procedure. Bump
- 12:41Speaker 5: didn't get enough work and practice had to run the
- 12:43Speaker 5: field goal unit on.
- 12:44Speaker 4: I don't know, Bump, I don't know.
- 12:46Speaker 7: That looked kind of suspected me, but you know, we'll
- 12:48Speaker 7: move on. We'll move on.
- 12:49Speaker 6: Brock Perdy had a Jimmy G type of stat line.
- 12:51Speaker 6: He was seventeen to twenty five, two oh six, no touchdowns,
- 12:54Speaker 6: no sptions.
- 12:56Speaker 7: He had a Russian touchdown.
- 12:57Speaker 6: He took care of the football, but he missed a
- 12:58Speaker 6: lot of receivers along the way. McCaffrey did what he
- 13:01Speaker 6: had to do, one hundred and sixteen yards of twenty
- 13:03Speaker 6: carries in one touchdown. Deebo had one hundred and one
- 13:07Speaker 6: yards total offense in a touchdown on the Rams sign man,
- 13:10Speaker 6: Pooking in the Cool. All right, they're gonna have to
- 13:12Speaker 6: start playing for this dude, because he's for real, fifteen receptions,
- 13:16Speaker 6: one forty seven on twenty targets. I don't think I've
- 13:19Speaker 6: ever had twenty targets in the game ever in my life.
- 13:22Speaker 7: Good for him.
- 13:23Speaker 6: He's a fifth round pick and uh he's breaking records, man,
- 13:26Speaker 6: And I like what he's doing. The question now, is
- 13:30Speaker 6: it's Cooper? Oh well, this was someone asked me, though
- 13:32Speaker 6: I thought it was foolish. They go, it's Cooper Cup.
- 13:34Speaker 6: Really that good? If pookin the Cool is doing all this,
- 13:36Speaker 6: I go pumping breaks. He balled out in college, triple
- 13:39Speaker 6: crown winner. You don't just stumble across nineteen hundred yards.
- 13:42Speaker 6: Teams are going to start adjusting for Pooka here pretty soon.
- 13:45Speaker 5: Yeah, pooking a Coola the former UB player and went
- 13:48Speaker 5: to BYU and got a little bit more burning. Is
- 13:50Speaker 5: obviously torn up two teams to start the year. But
- 13:52Speaker 5: you're right, come on, now, that's silliness, the pride of
- 13:55Speaker 5: Eastern Washington and you're talking about Cooper Cup. No man,
- 13:58Speaker 5: he listen Pooka is a good player, and yes, are
- 14:02Speaker 5: his numbers inflated because he's getting twenty targets. Yeah, i'd
- 14:04Speaker 5: hope you put up some numbers there, But you're right,
- 14:06Speaker 5: people are gonna game plan for him and it's gonna
- 14:09Speaker 5: be it'll be different moving forward. But what's crazy is
- 14:11Speaker 5: how the forty nine ers beat them in nine straight
- 14:14Speaker 5: matchups regular season. I will say because if your Rams
- 14:17Speaker 5: fan yours, say, hold on a minute, who won the
- 14:19Speaker 5: NFC Championship game, which is obviously the biggest of all
- 14:22Speaker 5: those nine matchups, But still, it's hard to beat a
- 14:24Speaker 5: team in your division nine times in a row.
- 14:26Speaker 4: That's pretty wild elsewhere in the division.
- 14:29Speaker 5: Giants at the Cardinals, and man, the way this game
- 14:32Speaker 5: started to bump, it looked like the New York Giants
- 14:34Speaker 5: were never gonna score a point in this season.
- 14:37Speaker 4: They were not.
- 14:37Speaker 5: Only they got outscored forty to nothing in Week one
- 14:40Speaker 5: against the Cowboys, and it was more of the same
- 14:42Speaker 5: against the Cardinals. That first half boom, They're down twenty
- 14:45Speaker 5: to nothing. At the half, Giants were just eighty one
- 14:47Speaker 5: yards of offense compared to the Cardinals two forty one.
- 14:50Speaker 5: So just like we're talking about the Rams. I'm starting
- 14:52Speaker 5: to think, well, maybe the Cardinals aren't as bad as
- 14:54Speaker 5: we thought. Too Well, things started to change, but bow
- 15:00Speaker 5: on New York's offensive woes their first six quarters this year,
- 15:03Speaker 5: at least by one measure, or the worst in NFL history.
- 15:06Speaker 5: Giants gave up sixty points before Jones ran in a touchdown,
- 15:09Speaker 5: the team's first points of the year. It was the
- 15:11Speaker 5: third most points given up before scoring a touchdowns. It's
- 15:14Speaker 5: nineteen to fifty. So I don't know what that means
- 15:18Speaker 5: for the Cowboys or what that means for the Cardinals,
- 15:22Speaker 5: because we don't know who the Giants are, and we
- 15:24Speaker 5: still know who the Cardinals are because things got really
- 15:26Speaker 5: bad in the second half. All Giants. They scored on
- 15:28Speaker 5: every possession, four straight touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Cardinals, after a
- 15:32Speaker 5: touchdown on their first possession in the second half, would
- 15:34Speaker 5: not score a point on the next four drives. They
- 15:37Speaker 5: had a chance with the game in the drive at
- 15:39Speaker 5: the end, got the ball back tied at twenty eight
- 15:41Speaker 5: five minutes left, they would go three and out and
- 15:43Speaker 5: Danny Dimes let an eight play fifty eight yard drive.
- 15:47Speaker 4: Graham Gono kicks a field goal. They win. Dimes throes
- 15:51Speaker 4: for over three.
- 15:51Speaker 5: Hundred and two touchdowns win interception, Joshua Dobbs twenty one
- 15:55Speaker 5: to thirty one two twenty eight one touchdown. Dobbs is
- 15:58Speaker 5: now zero and four as a starter, and Jonathan Gannon
- 16:01Speaker 5: is still seeking his first win in the National Football League.
- 16:06Speaker 4: That's what's going on in the West.
- 16:08Speaker 5: Let's get back to the team we're playing this week,
- 16:10Speaker 5: the Carolina Panthers.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Man ups, man up on Hawk Talk.
- 16:23Speaker 6: All right, let's look at some of these matches. The
- 16:25Speaker 6: first one we got to talk about the number one pick.
- 16:29Speaker 6: He was number one pick. Huh, the number one pick
- 16:32Speaker 6: in the draft.
- 16:33Speaker 7: I always get him in CJ because I didn't want
- 16:35Speaker 7: to two.
- 16:35Speaker 6: But Brice young Man, he was the first pick in
- 16:37Speaker 6: twenty twenty three, and he won the Heisman Trophy.
- 16:43Speaker 7: You win the Heisman Trophy in college football.
- 16:45Speaker 6: You got high expectations on you coming into the league,
- 16:48Speaker 6: but you.
- 16:48Speaker 7: Also realize that you're a quarterback and you're going to struggle.
- 16:50Speaker 6: But in twenty twenty one, Man he was three hundred
- 16:53Speaker 6: and sixty six of five forty seven forty eight hundred yards,
- 16:56Speaker 6: forty seven touchdowns.
- 16:58Speaker 7: And seven interception.
- 16:59Speaker 6: Stupid numbers are ridiculous, right, throughout college, he had eighty
- 17:04Speaker 6: three and fifty seven yards eighty touchdowns in twelve interceptions.
- 17:08Speaker 6: The Panthers are off to an on to start, but
- 17:11Speaker 6: this is typical for a guy who's picked number one.
- 17:13Speaker 6: According to ESPN, quarterbacks taking number one in the past
- 17:17Speaker 6: forty five drafts are combined ninety four two hundred and
- 17:19Speaker 6: sixty two in games they started in year one. Safe
- 17:23Speaker 6: to say if you draft a quarterback number one overall
- 17:26Speaker 6: and you put them out there expected text mails. Week
- 17:29Speaker 6: one took a L. He was twenty to thirty eight
- 17:31Speaker 6: one forty seven one touchdown to interception, sack twice.
- 17:34Speaker 7: Week two took an L twenty two.
- 17:36Speaker 6: Or thirty three, one fifty three yards, one touchdown, zero interceptions,
- 17:40Speaker 6: getting better, okay, and sacked four times.
- 17:42Speaker 7: So far in the year.
- 17:43Speaker 6: He's completing fifty nine percent of his passes two hundred
- 17:45Speaker 6: ninety nine yards.
- 17:46Speaker 7: We did that in a in a game.
- 17:47Speaker 6: That's two touchdowns, two interceptions, one fumbalsaws, sacks six times.
- 17:52Speaker 6: This is gonna be hard in this guy, man, It's
- 17:53Speaker 6: gonna be tough. The Panthers are ranked a twenty eighth
- 17:56Speaker 6: in the NFL in total offense. The ring thirty second
- 17:58Speaker 6: in passing to see, thirty first until the defense, and
- 18:02Speaker 6: thirtieth against the pass. So if you look at the
- 18:04Speaker 6: matchup on paper, like you mentioned earlier, you think it
- 18:07Speaker 6: could be a tight game, and you never really know.
- 18:09Speaker 7: Because this is the NFL. We don't sleep on nobody.
- 18:12Speaker 4: No, we definitely do not.
- 18:13Speaker 5: Especially you know it didn't when you watch the Seahawks game.
- 18:17Speaker 5: Maybe it's have a little bit of recency bias. Would
- 18:19Speaker 5: watch them last week because they took the ball away,
- 18:21Speaker 5: because they're more aggressive. I felt like they played so
- 18:24Speaker 5: much better defensively, and then you look at the box
- 18:26Speaker 5: scored and.
- 18:27Speaker 4: Go, dang, we still give up a lot of yards.
- 18:29Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, It didn't.
- 18:30Speaker 5: I don't know, kind of a deceiving I still felt
- 18:32Speaker 5: like they were so much improved and they just look
- 18:34Speaker 5: better with how they did things. So I'm hoping for
- 18:37Speaker 5: a better performance defensively and get after this rookie man.
- 18:40Speaker 5: Bryce Young is a talented the Heisman Trophy winner, you
- 18:42Speaker 5: said it, he's a good football player, but right now
- 18:45Speaker 5: he's just trying to figure it out.
- 18:46Speaker 4: Bump.
- 18:47Speaker 5: Right now, he's still trying to get the play calls
- 18:49Speaker 5: in on time. He's still trying to right. So get
- 18:52Speaker 5: after these boys. Man, Come on, Channon Nuwoasu, go get
- 18:55Speaker 5: after him. Darryl Taylor, Jaron Reed, Draymond Jones. I think
- 18:59Speaker 5: they can. His life a tough one. On Sunday, footbit
- 19:03Speaker 5: into our side. The quarterback Gino smith Man did he
- 19:06Speaker 5: have a good bounce back performance bump against the Lions.
- 19:08Speaker 5: He became the first player in franchise history with three
- 19:11Speaker 5: hundred and twenty five passing yards, two touchdown passes, and
- 19:14Speaker 5: a seventy five percent completion rate. So on this list,
- 19:17Speaker 5: Gino is in prestigious company most games with three hundred
- 19:21Speaker 5: yard passing seventy percent completion since twenty twenty two, He's
- 19:25Speaker 5: had five of those games. Patrick Mahomes has had five,
- 19:27Speaker 5: and there's four other players tied for three. So safe
- 19:30Speaker 5: to say my man is doing it and doing it big.
- 19:32Speaker 5: Happy to see him bounce back after kind of a
- 19:34Speaker 5: flu keep performance against the Rams because we know he
- 19:37Speaker 5: has such a better resume than that, and it was
- 19:39Speaker 5: good to see him bounce back. He also led his
- 19:42Speaker 5: eleventh game winning drive and his fifty third career start,
- 19:46Speaker 5: so he's doing it big and I love to see
- 19:48Speaker 5: Geno Smith on the season forty eight of sixty seven,
- 19:51Speaker 5: seventy one point six completion percentage, four hundred and forty yards,
- 19:54Speaker 5: three touchdowns, zero interceptions, sacked three times. But he will
- 19:59Speaker 5: have his hands full ump you alluded to it on
- 20:00Speaker 5: a good defense by the Carolina Panthers or rank fourth
- 20:03Speaker 5: against the pass, and you know, we'll see how Gino
- 20:07Speaker 5: can exploit them.
- 20:08Speaker 4: With J. C.
- 20:08Speaker 5: Horn out on ir he picked off Geno Smith in
- 20:11Speaker 5: last year's matchup, but they still have first round pick C. J.
- 20:14Speaker 4: Henderson and safety's Xavier Woods.
- 20:16Speaker 5: In von Bell. They're a pretty hype group coming out
- 20:19Speaker 5: of training camp. So we'll see how Geno Smith can
- 20:21Speaker 5: get after those guys.
- 20:23Speaker 7: Yeah, man, Gino's gonna have to uh be what it man?
- 20:26Speaker 6: That stat that you you just mentioned about three hundre
- 20:28Speaker 6: passing yards seventy percent completion rate is wild to me
- 20:31Speaker 6: because we know that the level that Gino's I'll see
- 20:34Speaker 6: me Pat Mahomes plays at.
- 20:35Speaker 7: To see Gino up there with him is amazing.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Man.
- 20:38Speaker 7: All right, let's talk about the backfield.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Man.
- 20:40Speaker 6: You got Miles Sanders over from Philly and got Chubba
- 20:43Speaker 6: is a Chubb or Cuba Chuba Hubbard I'm gonna.
- 20:46Speaker 4: Say, Cuba Hubbard. You just go with Hubbard, Chubba.
- 20:50Speaker 5: I don't know Oklahoma State, Hey, Sea hub see hub
- 20:53Speaker 5: back there all right?
- 20:55Speaker 6: Hey, for a long time, and you looked at the Panthers,
- 20:57Speaker 6: and you thought about McCaffrey, his squad, him doing amazing things.
- 21:01Speaker 6: A thousand yards receiving, thousand yards rushing. He is no
- 21:04Speaker 6: longer there. Man, he was getting paid a lot of money.
- 21:06Speaker 6: So they signed Miles Sanders on a four year, twenty
- 21:09Speaker 6: five million dollar contract. He's twenty six years old. His
- 21:12Speaker 6: beast year, he had twelve hundred yards eleven touchdowns. I
- 21:15Speaker 6: was in twenty twenty two. He had added another one
- 21:18Speaker 6: hundred and thirty two yards under ground in two touchdowns
- 21:20Speaker 6: in Philadelphia's first two playoffs games.
- 21:22Speaker 7: So he made the Pro Bowl. This guy kN ball.
- 21:25Speaker 6: He was a good part of that team last year,
- 21:27Speaker 6: the Philadelphia Eagles, and what they wanted to do. So
- 21:31Speaker 6: you look at what he's done this year. Thirty two carries,
- 21:33Speaker 6: one hundred and fifteen yards, no touchdowns, had one fumble.
- 21:36Speaker 6: It's only a matter of time before he gets going.
- 21:38Speaker 6: And let's just make sure it's not this week. They
- 21:41Speaker 6: look at Sea hub he was a fourth round pick
- 21:44Speaker 6: out of Oklahoma State. He's done pretty good as the
- 21:46Speaker 6: number two. Over two seasons. He has eleven hundred yards
- 21:49Speaker 6: and seven touchdowns. Again, had his best game against the
- 21:52Speaker 6: Seahawks last year, let's not repeat that. Are the Sea
- 21:56Speaker 6: also looking to build off of back to back solid
- 21:58Speaker 6: games against the run and they do that this week.
- 22:01Speaker 6: I think they can, but it's going to be a
- 22:03Speaker 6: tough little goal. As a team, they're thirteenth in NFL
- 22:05Speaker 6: allowing only ninety seven yards per game. If they can
- 22:08Speaker 6: keep that up, I like the chances for the Seahawks.
- 22:11Speaker 6: I'm against the Panthers, however, while they are thirteenth in
- 22:14Speaker 6: yards per game and teams are running the ball against
- 22:17Speaker 6: them at a high clip sixty seven times, that's the
- 22:19Speaker 6: fifth most in the NFL.
- 22:21Speaker 7: That means you have to defend the run, all right.
- 22:23Speaker 6: Seahows have to defend the run because teams are going
- 22:25Speaker 6: to test them out and see if the stats are
- 22:28Speaker 6: true and get to go.
- 22:29Speaker 7: But I believe man. I think that they are legit
- 22:32Speaker 7: and they can continue to be good against the run.
- 22:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it's not a fluke. I think what
- 22:36Speaker 5: we've seen from them in two games, I mean, you
- 22:39Speaker 5: just laid it out. That means that they're not only
- 22:41Speaker 5: is there a high volume of carries against them, they're
- 22:43Speaker 5: still stopping it. So I'm excited to see that it's
- 22:46Speaker 5: not a fluke and have them to continue to show
- 22:48Speaker 5: what they can do week in and week out. Now
- 22:52Speaker 5: bump flipping it to the defensive side for these Carolina Panthers.
- 22:56Speaker 5: Brian Burns is a guy that we got to look
- 22:57Speaker 5: at because he's a baller dog. Straight up, he can play.
- 23:01Speaker 5: He's coming off one of his best best seedings of
- 23:04Speaker 5: his career. The former first round pick from LSU sixteenth overall.
- 23:08Speaker 5: Last year, he had sixty three tackles, twelve and a
- 23:10Speaker 5: half sacks, seventeen TFLs, twenty two QB hits, three passes defended,
- 23:16Speaker 5: one force fumble. He's now made the Pro Bowl back
- 23:18Speaker 5: to back seasons, and it was just one of three
- 23:20Speaker 5: players including Max Crosby and Miles Garrett, to record twelve
- 23:24Speaker 5: sacks and fifteen tackles for loss and sixty tackles in
- 23:27Speaker 5: a season.
- 23:28Speaker 4: So he does a lot of good stuff. Man, I
- 23:30Speaker 4: could go on and on about his stats right here.
- 23:33Speaker 5: He's just a guy that you know, the Seahawks need
- 23:36Speaker 5: to acount for pretty much on every single play he
- 23:38Speaker 5: picked up or he left off. Last season with nine tackles,
- 23:41Speaker 5: two TFLs, and two sacks, one force fumble through the
- 23:44Speaker 5: first two games. So things are not going to get
- 23:46Speaker 5: easier on the edges for the Seahawks offense. Whether that's
- 23:49Speaker 5: Stone forth Sight, Jake Kerhan running backs picking him up,
- 23:53Speaker 5: They're gonna have to count.
- 23:53Speaker 4: For where Brian Burns is at at all times.
- 23:56Speaker 6: Yeah, point him out idea, because he's gonna be out
- 24:00Speaker 6: make some plays.
- 24:01Speaker 7: I'm a matchup.
- 24:02Speaker 6: I'm really looking forward to looking at ken Walker and
- 24:04Speaker 6: Zach Scharbona versus the Panthers front seven seatowks came into
- 24:08Speaker 6: this game ranked twenty six when it comes to run
- 24:10Speaker 6: the football average in eighty three point five yards per
- 24:13Speaker 6: game in the first two weeks.
- 24:15Speaker 7: I expect that to change. We haven't really seen Zach
- 24:18Speaker 7: Charbonay touched.
- 24:18Speaker 6: The ball a lot, only seven carries for twenty seven yards,
- 24:21Speaker 6: and then we've seen a dose of ken Walker.
- 24:23Speaker 7: This hasn't been a really break one yet.
- 24:25Speaker 6: He's got one hundred and seven yards on twenty nine
- 24:27Speaker 6: carries and two touchdowns. The Seahalks ran the ball twenty
- 24:30Speaker 6: five times next week, which is about where we want
- 24:33Speaker 6: them to be. It's just we want a bit more
- 24:36Speaker 6: explosives out of this whole deal, all right, So we
- 24:39Speaker 6: expect Walker to come through.
- 24:41Speaker 7: He's due for a hundred yard game.
- 24:43Speaker 6: I expect Walker to get a hundo and then all
- 24:45Speaker 6: I need is Zach Sharbonay to get like five or
- 24:47Speaker 6: six for fifty and an explosive running there somewhere to
- 24:51Speaker 6: keep defenses on their toes.
- 24:53Speaker 5: Oh, for sure. I think they're absolutely due for a
- 24:55Speaker 5: big game. In with sharbon Na, I just want to
- 24:58Speaker 5: go out there and punish people, man, because that's what
- 24:59Speaker 5: he's been doing the last couple of weeks. Every time
- 25:01Speaker 5: he gets the ball. It's limited, but he's punishing people.
- 25:03Speaker 5: And I also like how he's been protecting in the
- 25:06Speaker 5: past game. He's come up big on some big cutch
- 25:09Speaker 5: throws for Gino Smith. So good to see Sharbonne there.
- 25:12Speaker 5: I love the kid out of UCLA. In the last matchup,
- 25:14Speaker 5: I want to look at DK Metcalf and Tyl Lockett
- 25:16Speaker 5: taken on this Panthers secondary. These two had a great
- 25:20Speaker 5: bounce back performance in Week two against the Lions. They
- 25:23Speaker 5: combined for fourteen receptions one hundred and thirty four yards
- 25:26Speaker 5: two touchdowns on sixteen targets. Lockett always adding to the
- 25:30Speaker 5: stat book every single week. His forty seven touchdowns since
- 25:33Speaker 5: twenty eighteen ranked fifth in the NFL, and he's the
- 25:36Speaker 5: only player in the league with at least eight receiving
- 25:38Speaker 5: touchdowns in the last five seasons. Against the Lions, Lockett
- 25:43Speaker 5: recorded his tenth two receiving touchdown game of his career,
- 25:47Speaker 5: joining Steve Largent as the only two.
- 25:49Speaker 4: Players in franchise history.
- 25:50Speaker 5: So it goes without saying if you're on the list
- 25:52Speaker 5: with Steve Argent, and it says, y'all two, you're doing
- 25:54Speaker 5: something well, so love yeah.
- 25:58Speaker 4: Right.
- 25:59Speaker 5: And the crazy thing is, if Lockett has four more
- 26:02Speaker 5: one thousand yard seasons, he'll still be behind Steve Varshin.
- 26:06Speaker 5: And that's crazy. Think about when he did that, you
- 26:08Speaker 5: know what I'm saying. So it's like, anyway, gloves, no gloves.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Oh, that's why he's.
- 26:15Speaker 5: Got the jacket, man, That's why he's got the jacket.
- 26:18Speaker 5: But between Lockett and DK, I love to see them
- 26:20Speaker 5: show up against the Lions and they're facing the fourth
- 26:23Speaker 5: ranked passing defense in the NFL. Again, it's only two games,
- 26:26Speaker 5: so I love, I love to see how this matchup
- 26:27Speaker 5: kind of works out. I mentioned it earlier how the
- 26:30Speaker 5: line of the Panthers were a little hyped up in
- 26:32Speaker 5: terms of their secondary coming into this season.
- 26:34Speaker 4: So we'll see how they stack up without j. C.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Horn.
- 26:36Speaker 5: But they've got some talented players over there, so we'll
- 26:39Speaker 5: see what happens. They've not allowed a player to pick
- 26:41Speaker 5: up one hundred yards this season, They've only allowed one
- 26:43Speaker 5: receiving touchdown, so we'll see and hopefully that gets snapped
- 26:47Speaker 5: coming to this weekend. But bump, we as we wrap
- 26:50Speaker 5: up the show, let's tell everybody how the Seahawks and
- 26:52Speaker 5: get a win on Sunday at the victory.
- 26:56Speaker 4: After forty five waits for the snap, Michael Vickton puts it.
- 27:00Speaker 7: That kick is away.
- 27:01Speaker 4: If that kick is gone, to say off when it's gone.
- 27:06Speaker 1: It's a path to victory on Hawk Talk.
- 27:10Speaker 7: All right, this is how they do it, all right.
- 27:12Speaker 6: You have to build off of what you did last week,
- 27:14Speaker 6: show the world that your offense is for real and
- 27:17Speaker 6: you can put up big yards in numbers.
- 27:20Speaker 7: Now, defensively, this is gonna be a tough ask, right,
- 27:23Speaker 7: you know.
- 27:25Speaker 6: It can be a tough ask if you do not
- 27:28Speaker 6: control the run, and if we see Andy Dalton.
- 27:31Speaker 7: I can't believe I'm putting those two together running Andy Dalton,
- 27:34Speaker 7: but it is what it is.
- 27:35Speaker 6: For some reason, we struggle against the backup quarterbacks. So
- 27:38Speaker 6: we'll see what happens there. But take care of the
- 27:40Speaker 6: ball man. And and I need We had a pick
- 27:43Speaker 6: six lash last week.
- 27:45Speaker 7: I need this.
- 27:45Speaker 6: I need another pick. I'm not asked for a pick six,
- 27:47Speaker 6: not gonna be greedy, but give me another pick. Give
- 27:50Speaker 6: me some more sacks and quarterback hits. I think we'll
- 27:52Speaker 6: be a oh, no question about it. Yeah, take the
- 27:54Speaker 6: ball away.
- 27:55Speaker 4: That's what this.
- 27:55Speaker 5: When this team takes the ball away, they win a
- 27:57Speaker 5: lot of games. Look it up Pete Carroll and the
- 27:58Speaker 5: turnover margin and me a lot in this program. So I, Bellie,
- 28:01Speaker 5: even keep that going and after you know, obviously you
- 28:04Speaker 5: mentioned it, keeps stopping the run three weeks in a row. Bump,
- 28:07Speaker 5: that's what I want to see. I want everyone to
- 28:08Speaker 5: believe this is not a fluke. We're gonna get after
- 28:11Speaker 5: that rookie quarterback. They have the worst pass offense in
- 28:13Speaker 5: the NFL.
- 28:14Speaker 4: Bump.
- 28:15Speaker 5: Got to make life hard for him. Gotta make life
- 28:17Speaker 5: hard forhim. It can't all be a fluke. He's coming
- 28:19Speaker 5: into a tough stadium. It's gonna be hard. You mentioned
- 28:22Speaker 5: taking the ball away. They just need to keep doing
- 28:24Speaker 5: it man, and cover the middle of the field. You
- 28:26Speaker 5: know what I'm saying. Continue to do that. I'd love
- 28:28Speaker 5: to see his passing numbers under one hundred and seventy five.
- 28:31Speaker 5: I'll say, maybe they hit a play here and there.
- 28:33Speaker 5: It's hard to keep people under one hundred and fifty
- 28:35Speaker 5: for three weeks in a row. But if we keep
- 28:37Speaker 5: him under a one seventy five, Bump, I think it's
- 28:39Speaker 5: gonna be a big win for the Seahawks.
- 28:41Speaker 6: He better not have his best day as a pro
- 28:43Speaker 6: against the Hawks. It cannot happen. Let's get a dumb
