- 0:22Korean, dramas and welcome to another episode.
- 0:25Today, I have a repeat guests with me.
- 0:27Me now from the crash. Landed on Kate, Dramas podcast

- 0:58excited to talk about. Out it how have you been like,
- 1:02what have you been up to? I think it's a holiday for you,
- 1:04right? Yes, so actually, it's Diwali
- 1:07time for us the last whole week. It started last Saturday and it
- 1:11went on till yesterday. I was just telling you I had at
- 1:13the volleyball yesterday night. I came home very late at 3 a.m.
- 1:16in the morning. So I've had a very lazy Sunday,
- 1:20but I had a fantastic week because my mom is here.
- 1:23My uncle and Aunt, are you? I've got family.
- 1:25So yes, we were all together after five years.
- 1:29Years. Celebrating the word.
- 1:31Yes. Oh my God.
- 1:33That is so special. Yeah.
- 1:34So I'm so happy for you. Yeah.
- 1:36Well I'm sure the pandemic kind of hindered.
- 1:38Yeah, lot of family. Also like I we couldn't go down
- 1:41for the generally, we do go down to India for the valley, but my
- 1:44cousin has not always been able to tie her timings.
- 1:46So it was nice to have all of them here together and stuff
- 1:51together. So yes, what a blessing.
- 1:54Oh, I'm so happy. Yeah.
- 1:57All right. That's a cool.
- 1:58Cool way to say like what? Been up to oh my God I had my
- 2:01whole family over celebrating. Yeah, that's fantastic.
- 2:05I do want to kind of segue into a little bit of a somber note
- 2:08because we are recording this within a couple of days of the
- 2:11itaewon tragedy, that happened during Halloween festivities and
- 2:16it is absolutely heartbreaking. I've been following the news
- 2:20and, you know, my prayers go out to all the victims.
- 2:23All the families that are some that are dealing with this right
- 2:26now and I know that as more news comes out, And people are
- 2:31mourning and Korea's and National mourning right now, I
- 2:34just want to say that we are really cognizant of that and
- 2:37we're really respectful of that. And I know that some people
- 2:41might rather not have recorded a podcast.
- 2:44Matt might not have put out a podcast this week, but I feel
- 2:48that deeply kind of the same way that newness noon.
- 2:52She posted something earlier that people are kind of going
- 2:56through, secondary trauma right now, and if they need a
- 2:59distraction, Jin. If they want to get their mind
- 3:03off things if they want to listen to a podcast on a kdrama
- 3:05that they watch this year, then I'm here for that.
- 3:08I would love to be there for people and comfort them in some
- 3:12way shape or form by talking about a kdrama for an hour and a
- 3:15half. So this is for you, if you feel
- 3:19like you need a distraction, if you feel like this is going to
- 3:22comfort you in some way, I hope that it does.
- 3:25And if not, if this is not the right time, then please like,
- 3:28press, pause, or Do what you need to do and come back later
- 3:31if you feel inclined. So, I did want to say that at
- 3:34the top, you know, we're there we stand with all of the Korean
- 3:38citizens that are dealing with this right now worldwide.
- 3:41It's making national news and, you know, I'm heartbroken.
- 3:45And I'm grieving with you guys. Yeah, same Jessica.
- 3:49Thank you for seeing this. It was very shocking for me in
- 3:52the morning. When I went through the news.
- 3:54I, I couldn't believe what's happening and really young
- 3:58people and this Beads are such a big tragedy because you are out
- 4:02there to celebrate and to not have your loved one come back.
- 4:06I don't wouldn't wish this on anyone.
- 4:09So all my condolences and prayers are with the families of
- 4:13those who've lost their loved one in this horrible horrible
- 4:16tragedy. And like you said, if this helps
- 4:21you get your mind off you know I think we've done our bit little
- 4:25bit here. Yeah yeah.

- 5:19Okay, thank you guys so much. Really appreciate you guys.
- 5:22All right, so I'm going to get started on reading the my drama
- 5:26list synopsis for Little Women. Here we go.
- 5:29It's really sure. I didn't I didn't put the whole
- 5:31thing in this documentary. So here we go.
- 5:33Three sisters get involved in a case that leads them to fight
- 5:36against the richest and most influential family in South
- 5:38Korea. Little Women are to originally
- 5:41from September to October 20, 22.
- 5:43And we are recording this at the very end of October.
- 5:46So this is really fresh. We are recording basically on a
- 5:51brand new drama literally just finished airing.
- 5:54Its 12 episodes long and it's directed by Kim E1 and she
- 5:59Erected soundtrack number one, Vincenzo from 2021 Crown Cloud,
- 6:04warm and cozy. So this is kind of a commute one
- 6:07season because we covered the crown cloud and Vincenzo in
- 6:11season three, which is quite, I mean, I didn't necessarily plan
- 6:15for it to be be a Kim. He won season, but here we are
- 6:20things happen for a reason. Yeah, I mean, it's good.
- 6:27There's Trends, definitely in this season.
- 6:29So it's written by Jung Suk young and she has written a
- 6:34bunch of movies. She's a frequent collaborator
- 6:36with Pakistan. Okay, so she's written decision
- 6:38to leave. She's written the handmaiden
- 6:41from 2016. I'm a cyborg but that's okay.
- 6:44Sympathy for lady Vengeance, these are all crime Thrillers
- 6:48and so you can kind of get a sense of what she is
- 6:50specializing in. And then she's also written the
- 6:53kdrama mother from 2018, which I hear is excellent.
- 6:56I have never seen it. Have you, you know, why haven't
- 6:59I Okay. Now have put it on my watch list
- 7:03because of seeing what the writer showed in Little Women.
- 7:07So, yes, and major. I started handmaiden.
- 7:11I need to complete it. I had to take a pause know you,
- 7:18it's valid because that movie is very interesting and heavy.
- 7:22Did you get through like the first part of the movie?
- 7:24I've actually got whozits and like, 20 minutes of it, and I
- 7:27had to false. And now I'm like, I need to
- 7:31stretch myself and watch it for sure.
- 7:32It's intrigued me like anything but don't break it.
- 7:36Don't break it for me. I will not ruin anything.
- 7:39We be in Miguel my good friend Miguel who's been on a couple
- 7:42podcast episodes. We reviewed it for the patreon
- 7:45feed and that we were just like giggling the whole time like the
- 7:49we had a time with the handmaiden but that's another
- 7:52story again become a patron because then you can listen
- 7:55Excellence a good review which was very entertaining.
- 7:58We were entertained Very least. Yeah.
- 8:02So Little Women Stars can go soon as Owen Jew.
- 8:05And of course, she's been in about eleven movie.
- 8:07She's the Goblins bride. She's been in yumi's cells, the
- 8:11king, Eternal Monarch Goblin cheese in the Trap.
- 8:14She's a very well-known name and it also Stars Nam.
- 8:19Ji-hyun, as Owen, Young sister, middle sister, and she's starred
- 8:24in The Witches. Diner 365, repeat the year, 100
- 8:27days, my prints, which is a very good Saga.
- 8:29Look and suspicious partner which is an excellent like law.
- 8:33Do you love that one? It's amazing.
- 8:35My favorite wrong. It is my ultimate favorite.
- 8:39Yes, I love shouting about it all the time.
- 8:44Nam. Ji-hyun is my favorite actress
- 8:46and Dita happened on June are my favorite couple.
- 8:51I am that's respectable. That's so respectable because
- 8:55they are so good. Inconspicious partner.
- 8:58Have you watched Have you watched the BTS?
- 9:01Their BT over more fun. I was like, do you guys have
- 9:05rocking chemistry? Why are they not in a drama
- 9:07again? Oh crap.
- 9:10All right well so I'll have to watch the behind the scenes for
- 9:13suspicious partner but oh nice. All right, to round out the
- 9:17sisters. We have packed you and she
- 9:20starts his own. Hey, she's the youngest sister
- 9:23and you might have seen her most recently, on all of us are dead
- 9:25from 2021. I haven't watched that, but I
- 9:29need Tony Me. Maybe Halloween is a good time
- 9:31tomorrow, to that is about perfect time.
- 9:33So much all of us are dead because it's a zombie Thriller
- 9:37show. Yeah, this cast is kind of
- 9:41extensive but I'm just going to limit it to the three sisters
- 9:44and we can go in and out with the other cast members as we
- 9:47need to. All this being said, you know,
- 9:51what did you think of Little Women?
- 9:54I'll be honest. So I watch everything Nam
- 9:56Ji-hyun starsin. Okay.
- 9:59And I was very intrigued by because I've read the book ages
- 10:03ago when I was in scrying. Yeah, of course, I think people
- 10:06know that little women, the the name And you sisters.
- 10:10The basic basic premise, is based on the Louisa May Alcott
- 10:14book which is a classic American novel.
- 10:17Yeah, I'm yeah, the book is is a coming-of-age drama.
- 10:22The mother is very loving. These forces does art, I clean
- 10:26it and they go through their own Journey, Etc.
- 10:29Okay, so at the back of, I hope I remember this correctly.
- 10:34Is it the Civil War? I'm not, I don't remember this
- 10:36correctly, but yes, edit this out.
- 10:40It is civil war-era. Yeah, exactly.
- 10:42Okay. So when I was intrigued, I said,
- 10:46I kept thinking Cory's do such great slice of Dramas.
- 10:50What are the adapting Little Women into?
- 10:53Okay, so what are they going to have?
- 10:54Because they have great slice-of-life traumas.
- 10:57What are they going to do with this book?
- 10:59The first episode caught me completely unawares, did not
- 11:04expect it to be this dark and Sinister and hit with A death in
- 11:10the first episode. So I was piqued my interest
- 11:13piqued, big time. And I think it helped that I was
- 11:17watching it as it aired and a lot of people are and I got two,
- 11:21three of my friends. I said look girls, I've seen
- 11:23this, you have to watch this with me because I'm going crazy.
- 11:27I can't be going crazy in my head theorizing about what's
- 11:29hitting me next. So, I need somebody to talk to
- 11:33and they also started following and they also enjoyed it was a
- 11:36if I have to summarize it it was a wild ride.
- 11:39That's how I am. That's how I summarize this
- 11:42whole drama and I like the thrill of it.
- 11:46I like the plot twist. Some were there just for the
- 11:49shock element? They could have.
- 11:51Hmm, even if they were not there.
- 11:53I don't think the drama would have been less captivating but
- 11:57as I washed it and I rewatched a few episodes, I realized the
- 12:01what the writer actually did is she turned the novel on its head
- 12:06made the sisters really flawed not the smart a kick-ass, women
- 12:11characters that we would like to see they were flawed, they were
- 12:15foolish, they were knife, they were Reckless selfish, but there
- 12:20was a lot of underlying social commentary through every episode
- 12:24that started to slowly creep in as you start watching the drama.
- 12:28So how the rich exploit the poor?
- 12:31How Cults? And ideologies can brainwash
- 12:34people how they prey on the weakness and Desperation of
- 12:38people? To make them do things that they
- 12:41wouldn't have otherwise done. If they were not put in that
- 12:43situation, abandonment, generational trauma.
- 12:48And I realized that they did it pretty well while keeping it at
- 12:52a level where you are practically, not trusting any
- 12:56character you were. Just, I kept waiting for when is
- 12:58this character going to turn gray and twist to the dark side?
- 13:01That was right for the approach. So I'm glad a few characters.
- 13:05Didn't go down the road, but it was a very satisfying.
- 13:09Fine. Watch for me.
- 13:10That's my job and you liked it. Ultimately I think I liked it, I
- 13:14liked this and I would recommend it.
- 13:16I enjoyed it a lot. It probably is puts it in my top
- 13:1910. I loved it so much.
- 13:20Oh wow, top 10 K dramas. Okay.
- 13:25So just to say my thoughts I went into it with a lot of
- 13:30trepidation because I'm a huge fan of the original Little Women
- 13:35of course, I read it as a kid and I've watched all of
- 13:38different movie. Ones, which are extremely
- 13:41popular especially in today. Like, I'm very surprised a
- 13:44little woman is kind of like doing so well, but here we are
- 13:48and the keep remaking it anyway. I love Kim.
- 13:52Go hoon. And I love this cast and they
- 13:55were saying, oh, it's like a thriller.
- 13:58And I was like, oh no, I don't know if I can like swing that
- 14:02that seems really excessive for little women like to throw these
- 14:06beloved sisters. In a crime Thriller, I was not
- 14:11about it, but I think after watching the first episode, I
- 14:14was quite taken with the problems and issues at the
- 14:19sisters had to navigate and I would say the first half of the
- 14:23show is extremely Pitch. Perfect in terms of tone in
- 14:28terms of writing in terms of like these different plot,
- 14:31twists and machinations that come across maybe to contrives
- 14:35later in the show as they kind of compound.
- 14:39And it turns a little more mock Johnny's and I wanted
- 14:44everybody's using this word mahjongg.
- 14:46I'm not sure what it was that smug.
- 14:48Gyeonggi, to be very honest towards the end.
- 14:51I was like hmm. This is little too excessive in
- 14:55hyperbole for it to just be a casual crime Thriller.
- 15:00But anyway, was I digress. Yeah, it wasn't a crime.
- 15:04Thriller in the sense, it was a thriller around a financial That
- 15:09was the other thing is that the crime I'm talking about is
- 15:12financial crimes. Crimes are on paper crimes that
- 15:16are apparently very difficult to prove in court, who is
- 15:19responsible. And I guess I'm a little more
- 15:23financially illiterate than I thought.
- 15:25And I use that term heavily because that's a buzzword,
- 15:28towards the latter episodes. Yes, financial literacy.
- 15:33And that's how is some characters just get into trouble
- 15:36because they're just so, Woefully inept at following
- 15:41these Paper Trails in these people who are so experts.
- 15:46So like such experts at Deception and financial
- 15:51deceptions. So I was a little more
- 15:55confusing. I wanted to be in the latter
- 15:57episodes, but I made it through and I would definitely say that
- 16:01this is a masterpiece, definitely more Prestige kdrama,
- 16:05and I would put this on par with other kdramas.
- 16:09Do very difficult topics about identity and class and money
- 16:16like a so many different commentaries running,
- 16:20concurrently throughout the show.
- 16:23And I feel like that's the smartest part of the show.
- 16:25Not to mention the cinematography, the acting, the
- 16:29just all of these different set pieces throughout made this.
- 16:35Really, I wouldn't say enjoyable watch but it was very
- 16:38interesting. Testing wobbling at intriguing
- 16:41would be the right words. Mmm.
- 16:43And I feel like it's one of those movies.
- 16:47You see when I when something gets like this level of getting
- 16:50a drama, I start saying movie instead of kdrama but I like
- 16:53subconsciously, I just think it's Cinema.
- 16:56Yeah, so I think I liked it. I don't think I'm far, renew
- 17:00removed enough to maybe say that.
- 17:03I outright like loved it or that I just disliked it.
- 17:07I think I'm on the fence because I No, in the back of my mind,
- 17:09it's a really, really, really good drama, but it maybe it's
- 17:14not my genre eggs. Maybe, you know, it's just not
- 17:18written for me specifically, but others who really appreciate
- 17:23this kind of Storytelling. And this kind of story would
- 17:28appreciate it. Like I'm not one that
- 17:30necessarily watches True Crime. I'm not one that necessarily
- 17:34understands these really complicated story.
- 17:38Is about financial crimes and what that entails, like what
- 17:42does that even look like? So maybe that's why there was a
- 17:47little bit of a disconnect for me on the whole for the show.
- 17:50Yes. But I know that little women is
- 17:53probably going to go down in history as one of the best
- 17:55kdramas. There is period.
- 17:57Yes it will death. It should in my opinion.
- 18:00I'm I have a financial Industries background so I thank
- 18:05you see that's what I'm saying. Yeah.
- 18:08Because of that jazz towards the end, actually, they have a
- 18:12couple of loopholes and plotters where I was thinking.
- 18:17How can you not be monitoring? These sisters who been in the
- 18:21clink of this whole slush fund money.
- 18:25Why are they not being going to get monitored?
- 18:28How could they not any? Anybody with common sense?
- 18:31Once there's been a flag, your system has flagged it if you are
- 18:35in the bank's World, okay. On Has actions of money.
- 18:40Those automatically you should get picked up.
- 18:44Okay? So we come to it because it
- 18:45could be a bit of a spoiler. I don't want to spoil it for the
- 18:48audience, but I was struggling with that at the end.
- 18:51But like I said, my viewing experience was completely
- 18:55different because we start, I watched it with such an open
- 18:58mind, like, what's going on. And with my friends theorizing,
- 19:02along with we, we were really enjoying this as a wild ride.
- 19:06Obviously like you said, three, four things.
- 19:08Went over the top at the end but we still didn't mind.
- 19:11It was like okay we'll go along with it.
- 19:16I feel like that's fair and I also feel like there's a
- 19:18difference in may be watching this episode by episode as it
- 19:23was airing then I did when I just like binge it all at once.
- 19:27So I think a lot of the communal fun that happens when you watch
- 19:32a drama as its airing and your, you have friends that are
- 19:35watching with you and you're talking about theories and
- 19:37you're trying to come up with what the hell's going to happen
- 19:39next. Yes.
- 19:40What is the significance of the thing that they introduced two
- 19:43episodes two episodes ago? Then it's repeated.
- 19:45Now in this episode like things like that are really fun and
- 19:50keep you really engaged with the drama.
- 19:52So I didn't have none of that. That's a go off of had to make
- 19:56this experience better. Yeah.
- 19:57Off 26 episodes. I kept thinking, why didn't
- 20:00Netflix drop this or TV and drop it all that?
- 20:03Well, together, it represents such a great been durable, watch
- 20:07for me, because there were a lot of foreshadowing and clues that
- 20:11came very subtly. The first six episodes that It
- 20:14to unravel in the latter half and I was like, oh wait, I have
- 20:18to go re-watch that scene. Was it that what it was
- 20:20referencing to? So there are a couple of scenes
- 20:23like that especially within hey, which came to my mind.
- 20:25So the that bfl do, this should have dropped it.
- 20:29Like, you know, how scared game dropped with Eight Episodes
- 20:32Bank? Yeah, everybody got hooked to
- 20:33it. I think this magic would have
- 20:35worked for little bit. I agree with you.
- 20:38I think that once you kind of get a drama that's less than 16
- 20:41episodes, you kind of lose the The steam of, like two episodes
- 20:46a week for two months and everyone's waiting with bated
- 20:52breath for the next episode. When you got 12 episodes in,
- 20:55you're still releasing it week-to-week.
- 20:57It's just it takes a little something out of it.
- 21:00Especially when each episode is so rich.
- 21:01This is like a rich text. It's you know text that that's
- 21:04moving my I read a lot of theories on Reddit and a lot of
- 21:08know. Okay, read it went Bonkers
- 21:11during little open, it was up there so amazing.
- 21:13It was amazing. Sighs Audrina.
- 21:15Oh, I missed this point or she's right about this or this user
- 21:18said, the things that I couldn't have talked about.
- 21:20So it was very immersive experience to watch a drama like
- 21:24this. Yeah, I remember this happened
- 21:27during given Hometown Cha-cha-cha.
- 21:28There's so many discussions happening was crazy so these I
- 21:34think that also changes your viewing experience, you know
- 21:37maybe if I had washed it by myself alone, maybe I don't want
- 21:42bit more Bonkers and I'd be like, okay, What is going on?
- 21:45Because I had people to share it with it became much more
- 21:48enjoyable for me. Yeah.
- 21:51Yeah. That was how I watched it.
- 21:53Yeah, that's often a dark room. But I actually have to speak
- 21:58about the cinematography and background score.
- 22:02I thought this was Top Notch cinematography for me mr.
- 22:05Sunshine, and Kingdom a like, Peak, the best I've seen in
- 22:09kdramas. They don't feel like a trauma.
- 22:11They feel like movie, okay, on a very large, that's what I keep
- 22:14saying it. Is very cinematic and Prestige
- 22:16and beautiful. Like the camera angles either
- 22:19narrowing on a short or moving away from the short, or from the
- 22:23character, or taking it away the closed room, which becomes very
- 22:29pivotal in the whole plot towards the latter.
- 22:32Half the way, it's been built and how it the close-ups that go
- 22:38on the characters and far away. I have I just think of past
- 22:42seven years ago, I've never seen.
- 22:44In Singapore. Look so pristine in a drop
- 22:47episode, 8 was gorgeous. I can look at episode 8 type and
- 22:50again just for the shots offer Singapore as a city.
- 22:53So I really felt it was a, and the fact that she's directed
- 22:58Vincent's. Oh, that was the style.
- 23:00In the way, the drama has been shot or the characters carried
- 23:04themselves. So, I felt a lot of similarities
- 23:06on that aspect, which I really enjoyed.
- 23:09The background. Score was great, it was Haunting
- 23:12and taunting you distrust. Characters and what it was going
- 23:16to happen next. I loved loved the background
- 23:19score as well. I felt like it was a it was its
- 23:21own character. In the drama.
- 23:22You take away the score and the drama will fall flat a bit.
- 23:25So, the impact of the scenes, Becky was heightened by the
- 23:29score in the background. So I love that a lot.
- 23:32I agree with you 100%, 100%. What were some of the best parts
- 23:37of this of the show for you? Okay, so I was actually taken
- 23:42aback by how Flo Lord these sisters were okay.
- 23:47Reckless income was as a reporter in Jews, naivety and
- 23:52innocence, you know, she's doing things which we'll discuss in
- 23:56when we go to the spoiler section.
- 23:58Maybe pull my hair apart, like be a bit irrational.
- 24:03What are you doing, right? So we understand we want smart
- 24:09characters, we want Kick-Ass women, you know.
- 24:11But you know, in reality, a lot of people are gonna Boo.
- 24:14And a lot of yes, our knife and a lot of people do reckless
- 24:19things. So I quite liked how these
- 24:23characters were portrayed in this, trauma, the three sisters.
- 24:28I, my biggest biggest takeaway for me, I think was I, was quite
- 24:33in awe, that it's an all-women team, the director, the writer,
- 24:37the antigonus, the protagonist's, even the
- 24:41antigonus right-hand woman is she was not a The right-hand man
- 24:45to the right. The ghoul was also.
- 24:48So having such a women dominated drama, made it all the more
- 24:53enjoyable for me to enjoy this, right?
- 24:56The men were kept at a Supporting Cast positions and
- 25:00they stayed true to it and it pushed the woman's story
- 25:06forward, that that that's what I felt.
- 25:08And I also thought that every actor whether big or small
- 25:11brought their A-game to this drama, everybody.
- 25:14Well, the helm attention, I wanted to know what's going on,
- 25:17even if it ends up as a minor role, I enjoyed watching
- 25:21everybody. So that's my summary of our.
- 25:25The best parts of the show was the whole cast was very exciting
- 25:30to watch. Yeah, I agree for me it was
- 25:34pretty basically the same stuff. I really appreciated.
- 25:37The all women team that was leading the show whether behind
- 25:41the seeds are in front of it. And yeah, having Flawed
- 25:44characters as always kind of like the better thing to do in a
- 25:48in a drama like in just writing in general it just makes things
- 25:52a lot more nuanced and interesting to watch.
- 25:55And that's why I think a lot of people wanted to know, like what
- 26:01what I thought, what other people thought, because there's
- 26:04a lot to take away from here and there's a lawsuit to kind of
- 26:08discuss whether on the whole or atom at a micro level and
- 26:13unlikable. Characters weather because
- 26:16they're naivety because of their recklessness or whatever.
- 26:18Else make for better storytelling, something to kind
- 26:25of sink your teeth into because an infallible hero is always
- 26:29just going to be a one-note infallible hero.
- 26:31And in this case, there were no Heroes and know you do nearly
- 26:35everybody had an issue like a villainous issue to them, and
- 26:40that's a lot more realistic to me as well.
- 26:44Yeah, and trust me of in the first top.
- 26:47So, by the sixth episode of by the fourth or sixth episode, I
- 26:50kept wondering which of these sisters is going to tip to the
- 26:54dark side and Brad everybody into the abyss.
- 26:58Like, I kept waiting who, and I kind of had my money on one of
- 27:03them, and the end of the drama was relieved that she did trip
- 27:08to the dark side. So this constant, the writer But
- 27:14this fear in your head that yeah, somebody is going to tip
- 27:18over. Somebody's got to tip over.
- 27:19They are not, they're not white, they are great.
- 27:22Yes. And I like that aspect that she
- 27:25put. Yeah, it's playing on not only
- 27:27the characters and their trust between one another, but it's
- 27:30playing on the audience itself and our trust with the
- 27:34characters. Who should I believe, who should
- 27:37I trust? Are they good?
- 27:38Are they about earlier, screw everybody over?
- 27:40Are they just after the money and all of these things prey on
- 27:43your mind? That's why it was such fodder
- 27:46for different theories like online.
- 27:48Exactly. Yeah.
- 27:49This is not a spoiler. But actually, you know, the
- 27:51Hodgins character after Kim groans character, don't you
- 27:55trust me and without hesitation she goes no, so many remains
- 28:00around this that basically all the the audience do for every
- 28:04character Little Women is like, no, we don't trust you at all.
- 28:10I like that. I like that a lot.
- 28:12It wasn't dad, trust me. Absolutely not.
- 28:18I found it in Dolly, Parton. See her toes.
- 28:20No, I don't trust you. I'm obviously it was more dark.
- 28:24That so there is dark comedy or tragicomedy?
- 28:27Like a have you seen Skye Castle?
- 28:30Not yet. Okay.
- 28:31Yeah, when we get there, so it's where, you know, the scene is
- 28:34dark. You know, the premise is very
- 28:37slow. You know, gruesome and yet there
- 28:40are elements of Comedy that get inserted or a black comedy or
- 28:44satire that gets in the tournament.
- 28:46Didn't do that on a full scale but there were moments of such
- 28:51instances especially with induce character that I felt that, you
- 28:55know, she had these moments where she would, that's why I
- 28:57loved can go in in this character in this character lot
- 29:01moments where she had this Revelation that.
- 29:03Oh, I think I've cracked this, and the next moment.
- 29:05She's like, did I mess it up again?
- 29:07So yeah. Happy to and fro Transitions and
- 29:11I think yeah she pulled it off her face or Expressions were
- 29:15fantastic to watch. She's great.
- 29:18No complaints about King goon and I do appreciate you bringing
- 29:21up the black comedy or the dark comedy aspects, which were
- 29:23almost imperceptible in the show.
- 29:27And the writer has done that in previous movies, that specially
- 29:31that she's written, because I haven't watched mother from
- 29:342018. But I know that her work with
- 29:37Pakistan nuke is Full of these dark comedy moments that are
- 29:41kind of morose kind of like if I don't have that sense of humor,
- 29:45that I definitely won't catch it but if I do then it's almost
- 29:48like an Easter egg for those that have this kind of
- 29:51sensibility and might find humor in a very dark situation.
- 29:56Yes. And I appreciated that in the
- 29:58show can go and was definitely a source of comedic relief in some
- 30:01places. Sure.
- 30:03That do things that stand out which we'll get to I just cannot
- 30:06get over. How quick reactions.
- 30:08It's more. She was, she was back to being
- 30:11her naive innocent very, my content web again.
- 30:16What were some of the worst parts of the show for you?
- 30:21I think I have my cribs about the show where I do think they
- 30:26went a bit over the top in some bits of trying to shock the
- 30:30audience or trying to keep the shock element every episode they
- 30:33could have toned it down a bit and I don't want to talk about
- 30:36it now in this non spoilery section because it's giving yeah
- 30:39the spoiler absolutely and they were to plot devices which are
- 30:43very Sensitive issues around alcoholism and he's inside,
- 30:49which were introduced to two characters in the drama and
- 30:55either they were brushed off or they were forgotten about.
- 30:58And to me, that didn't sit, right?
- 31:01Because those two bits can trigger a lot of people and it
- 31:05could have caused them to switch off the show also.
- 31:08So if you're not going to do much around these sensitive
- 31:11issues, I think you can not use them as plot devices.
- 31:16Or if you do, give it closer, that's what I felt.
- 31:19You know, I didn't even think of those things.
- 31:21But I agree with you 100 percent about those two aspects of the
- 31:26show. And of course, you won't say
- 31:27like exactly how they fit into the plot or what characters that
- 31:30pertains to in this side, which is spoilers, because we're not
- 31:34going to spoil the show. No right now.
- 31:36But yeah, that was kind of fun. What's the word irresponsible?
- 31:43Yes, especially when They are when the Rider and the
- 31:46showrunner, you know, the director are so in tune with
- 31:51wrapping up, loose ends. And so careful with other bits
- 31:54of the plot, they could have definitely made some room.
- 31:59Yes, to kind of address these two very important things, the
- 32:04alcoholism and the suicide stuff, which absolutely will
- 32:08trigger some audience members is actually very serious to kind of
- 32:12even. Yeah, it's been included that as
- 32:15Perik turistic of certain characters, right?
- 32:19Exactly. And it's really just not even
- 32:21dealt with you, right? It's not even like, giving
- 32:23closure towards opting, not it never.
- 32:25It was never brought up again and to me, that's that didn't
- 32:30feel right. Mmm.
- 32:32You know people are struggling with those very very severe
- 32:36things and it that's like I said that that could hit people in
- 32:39the wrong way the way it was dealt with.
- 32:41Yeah. Hmm.
- 32:43So before anything am I? I think.
- 32:45I think that was it did they try to complicate the plot of so so
- 32:49ya know. Yes, they did.
- 32:53Try and complicate the plot especially during the kind of
- 32:57endgame episode, and that's when I was like very confused, my
- 33:03sister would say you were fools old, because I was confused to
- 33:08no end. And I was wondering how certain
- 33:11characters were able to do different things.
- 33:14When I thought they were on this side of town or doing x y z and
- 33:19then all of a sudden they were actually here and Were plotting
- 33:22this on the side or they managed to get over here and intercept
- 33:25these people and do this while. So it's all wasn't looking and
- 33:30there was a lot of like deception after deception after
- 33:32the reception. And I felt very strongly for
- 33:36engines character can go in character because she's just
- 33:39kind of getting, you know, jerked around.
- 33:41She was just by talking around. Yes, everyone who's smarter than
- 33:45ever than her, everyone who is financially literate, everyone
- 33:48who has something to lose, or something to gain.
- 33:51Not just her is absolutely manipulating her and using her
- 33:56in the final few episodes, especially and I got
- 34:00overwhelmed, completely, I just kind of settled on more General
- 34:04ways of understanding the episodes versus like the actual
- 34:07details of stuff that happened and I wonder if a lot of other
- 34:11people felt the same way I think you probably had a better grasp
- 34:14on everything that I do. You're like, yeah, I did like,
- 34:18like I'm saying because I did binge it right.
- 34:21Bye-bye. Give to the episode 11 and 12
- 34:23lot of theories and my head were cleared up and I knew what to
- 34:27expect because I was waiting for two of my theories and they came
- 34:31out, right? And then it was just a matter of
- 34:33how they solved it and showed it to us.
- 34:35So, I was okay. In a long time, I felt that
- 34:39actually or the finale of the drama wrapped up a lot of loose
- 34:43ends. They didn't leave too many Loose
- 34:45Ends, maybe one or two, so I can forgive them for that, but it
- 34:49was, you're okay. Hmm.
- 34:54Yeah, but for me, I was very satisfied with what they did in
- 34:58the finale with the characters. Like I said, we'll discuss the
- 35:01couple of loose ends or plot holes, but I can forget them.
- 35:06I've come to a point where kdramas can drag so much in
- 35:10between, so if yes, I've enjoyed 90% of the drama, I can let go
- 35:16of the 10% in. Not crib about that 10%.
- 35:18I you do what you have a point because when you get those 16
- 35:22and Episode dramas, you will have fat to trim.
- 35:26And you will have Superfluous storylines things that don't
- 35:29really feel, right? And you kind of forgive it, if
- 35:33dramas really good and if not if the kind of it's the drama's
- 35:36kind of mid, then you're sitting here and complaining about it,
- 35:39all right? Which is fine, that's your
- 35:41prerogative. But yeah, it's the way it was
- 35:42written and it's art and you can critique the art.
- 35:45But exactly this drama was pretty tight at 12 episodes it
- 35:49was and it was move it. Like the plot was Was moving for
- 35:54most of those 12 episodes. Like it was not stagnant at all.
- 35:58So I kind of feel you. Are you saying like well, I like
- 36:0090% of the drama. So I'm gonna be a little kind to
- 36:04that 10%. Yeah.
- 36:06Yeah. I guess we want so many gay
- 36:09dramas, which are quite ludicrous.
- 36:10So I mean, it's all right, you're absolutely right.
- 36:18I'm almost hesitant to talk about some of the general stuff
- 36:21that might Fall into like the themes of the show.
- 36:25Yeah, without kind of getting into spoilers.
- 36:27So I wonder if we should just give our scores and jump into
- 36:31spoilers at this point. Yeah.
- 36:32All right. So what would you give this show
- 36:34out of five Soju bottles? I'd give it to fall for Soju
- 36:38bottle. Yes.
- 36:40Okay. Like I said I really enjoyed it
- 36:43and the ride was a wild ride. So it was wild.
- 36:47It is why I will love her the show like this.
- 36:53Okay, I think I would give this show three and a half soda
- 36:58bottles and I'm I'm kind of on the fence.
- 37:01I want to go for but I this is not like my favorite Drama by
- 37:06any stretch and they were a lot of points again where I was very
- 37:10confused. Maybe if I watch it again I
- 37:18won't have such a you know, hang up.
- 37:22That maybe, maybe if I sit with it longer because I just
- 37:25finished it today. I know.
- 37:27And yeah, so I'm going to three-and-a-half right now, but
- 37:30it's probably going to lean higher than that later.
- 37:33Because scores can change people change.
- 37:35People we watch things and you're like, wow, why did I hate
- 37:37this before? Like I love it.
- 37:38It's great or whatever. So yes, it's three and a half,
- 37:41but probably in the long run Forrester.
- 37:44No, no. But I think it, yes, bad because
- 37:46I get it, where people are and I've read a lot of reviews just
- 37:50to I thought maybe I am like overhyping or loving this drama
- 37:55too much. So what did you go?
- 37:57See. But like any popular drama these
- 38:00they will have polarized views. People have absolutely hated it
- 38:04and call it, like the worst mug, junk or whatever.
- 38:08And there is a people like me on the other side of the fence
- 38:11who've loved it. If you look, it's not a mug
- 38:12Jang. It may have had elements but it
- 38:15wasn't amok Chun because really the it was quite intelligent
- 38:19writing in terms of the characters and how it all.
- 38:22Hold it together. So I don't see why you would
- 38:26not. You would be like on the fence
- 38:28about this trauma, especially the last, like you said, it got
- 38:31complicated if the last two bits.
- 38:33Yeah. The so here's why I think people
- 38:36are Java writers could have done better is if you are putting at
- 38:41the center of the drama of financial crime which is not
- 38:43very easy for a lay man to follow, maybe explains a little
- 38:48a man may be explaining the workings of it and how these
- 38:52These transfers can happen. Etc, would have helped.
- 38:56There is a concept of where you talk to the you know, the
- 38:59breaking the fourth wall where the characters talk to the he's
- 39:03already should break the fourth wall.
- 39:05Well I'm saying, I'm not saying that it could have worked.
- 39:07I'm just saying that maybe the audience needed a little more
- 39:10explanation around what's going on, maybe throw a voiceover or
- 39:14something like this. Just trying to get through the
- 39:17plot devices of some narration in the background or something
- 39:20like that. So maybe that might have I don't
- 39:22know. I'm just trying to say from
- 39:24induce perspective who was the knife person.
- 39:27They're trying to write understand what's going on.
- 39:30Maybe I don't know. So, I mean, just to just to kind
- 39:34of jump in here with an analogy, the financial crimes and the
- 39:39money laundering schemes in the slush fund stuff that's all fine
- 39:42in theory because I understand the general concept of what
- 39:45these things are. But the show deals exclusively
- 39:49with how they get from point. A to point.
- 39:52Point Z, and all of the inner workings of such a, an
- 39:57operation. And what exactly are these
- 40:00people doing in their day-to-day jobs for all of these slush
- 40:04funds in the money laundering and stuff?
- 40:07And to me, money laundering is again to like an abstract
- 40:09concept. Like how do you get to me?
- 40:12You're talking about, you know, astronauts getting to space.
- 40:15I understand, they have to get this big.
- 40:17Yeah. They get in the spaceship and
- 40:18they get to space fine. But if you're talking about how
- 40:22Exactly. They are pushing buttons here.
- 40:25How exactly they're training for such a thing?
- 40:27How did they get the job? If there's connections involved,
- 40:31all of that from that to take off, you know, that's a mystery
- 40:36to me. So that's why I'm saying it in
- 40:39theory. I understand what these people
- 40:41are doing and what this topic of the show is about what the crime
- 40:46is. But you know, I don't know how
- 40:48the astronauts specifically get to space so stop Of a lot of
- 40:52stuff and what they're dealing with.
- 40:54So that's why I say maybe if I watched it a second time, I'd
- 40:58get a little more out of it and probably like I do, I do feel
- 41:03for the audience where I felt that that was kept a bit cryptic
- 41:07and normally explained and like I said those who are from the
- 41:12financial industry will also find the plot holes and think.
- 41:15Hang on. This is no matter your.
- 41:19Yeah, I would love to talk to you.
- 41:22Dad actually because my dad has been a banker for his whole
- 41:25career and he's worked in fraud. Yeah, for sure.
- 41:29So to be back to here. So I should totally talk to him
- 41:31about the money laundering and the slush funds and what the
- 41:34banks would do, what kind of, you know, security measures they
- 41:37have because you're right towards the end of the show
- 41:40students. Shouldn't some of these Banks be
- 41:41questioning like why these people are still handling this.
- 41:44But these vast sums of money on this huge freely.
- 41:47It's it's not small deposits. This is huge, huge man.
- 41:52Honey, we're talking about, okay, and you have to look at
- 41:56their credit worthiness or what I really am going to technical
- 42:00but you have to look at their occupation and more deferential
- 42:04standing is. I don't know why that money is
- 42:06coming through. So yes, I have, I had my
- 42:10grievance, but I like I said, I let go.
- 42:12So, okay, it's television, it's okay, it's television.
- 42:16All right. On that note, we're going to get
- 42:17into spoilers right after this. You want to come in?
- 42:28All right, we're on the other side of spoiler.
- 42:30So me now, I don't know where you would like to start, but you
- 42:32did mention that you had a couple of qualms having to do
- 42:36with the suicide and the alcoholism that Warren
- 42:40necessarily rounded out in the plot in a satisfactory Manner
- 42:44and that kind of felt irresponsible to you and that
- 42:46was a complaint that you had about the show.
- 42:49Did you want to talk about that in more detail right now?
- 42:52Sure. So this is a big spoiler.
- 42:54Hits you in the it kicked me, at least I was not expecting this,
- 42:58we're in kyung is shown to be alcoholic, and she's actually
- 43:03drinking alcohol in the seahorse, the pig mouthwash.
- 43:07And then it's revealed that it was, tequila alcohol.
- 43:10And she's doing, I'm sorry. But I have to jump in here
- 43:14because go on. This, was that like, this was
- 43:16like episode 1. What?
- 43:17Where she's shown on the job, she's a journalist.
- 43:20She's on the on, call all the time.
- 43:23And she keeps chugging like this mouthwash like swishing around
- 43:27the mouthwash in her mouth and then swallowing the mouthwash
- 43:29and I had such an issue in my head.
- 43:31I was like, why does she keep swallowing the mouthwash?
- 43:33Is there a mouthwash and Korea that you can just swallow
- 43:36afterwards? It toxic to you and then when
- 43:39they reveal that, she's an alcoholic and that she hadn't
- 43:42bottles of tequila hit on her desk Wookie and she's Kela in
- 43:47your office. It's the bottles of tequila and
- 43:50at their place of business at work.
- 43:52It's like this. I was like, that's just begging
- 43:54for issues. So anyway, she was very stupid
- 43:57about it in that respect. Okay, supid.
- 44:01So Shaq on in all of those bottles to the office, like I
- 44:05was very and then, of course, I was very taken aback, I did not
- 44:10see it coming, maybe she was an alcoholic, and I thought I was
- 44:13the stupidest person on Earth because looking back, of course,
- 44:18she was an alcoholic like looking back at all those times
- 44:21that she was swishing. Around the alcohol.
- 44:23And then swallowing it, I was like, of course, she's a
- 44:26freaking alcoholic, and that's straight out, got Straight.
- 44:29Tequila in the mouthwash. I felt like an idiot.
- 44:34I have the same feeling I did not see this coming.
- 44:38Why did I not see? And they actually did a product
- 44:41placement with the mouthwash. I actually wanted to Google and
- 44:46check and you swallow, this mouthwash.
- 44:48What is this product that? Yeah, right talking about.
- 44:52Showing us. Are you kidding me?
- 44:55She. Oh, tell me something.
- 44:57Who keeps six bottles of tequila?
- 44:59I just couldn't get over that. See that like being worked on, I
- 45:04thought it was the bottom drawer like where you keep your folders
- 45:07you know like up right? Yeah.
- 45:10I'm little glaze Aquila bottles. I got one fathom.
- 45:13No one like a bunch like a bunch like half a dozen bottles.
- 45:17Sitting in your desk. Are you kidding me and yeah, I
- 45:20used television. Nobody surprising.
- 45:22Open the door, bring in the alcohol.
- 45:25It was so many questions. So varies, so just inconsistent.
- 45:30But anyway, and I thought that they would bring that plot and
- 45:33because she gets, you know, she loses her job.
- 45:35She gets suspended. Then she yeah fired.
- 45:38Then her aunt is telling her oh oh, I used to drink when I would
- 45:42go for work. Why is it such an issue?
- 45:44I'm like, are we seriously having this conversation?
- 45:46But she, and then it was worse for the for her because she was
- 45:49a nurse exactly. She was working in the medical
- 45:52field. Don't field and you're telling
- 45:54me she was drinking on the but job as long as you got her job
- 45:56done. Yeah it wasn't causing any
- 45:58issues then she could just drink on the job.
- 46:00I was like I look was getting like hot.
- 46:03You know what I'm saying? Exactly really upsets you you
- 46:06like pasta. Are you seriously having this
- 46:09conversation? And it's the great and actually
- 46:12not thinking that alcoholism her nieces great-nieces.
- 46:16Alcoholism is not that severe is just what everybody does.
- 46:20Are you seriously having this conversation?
- 46:21So That kind of put me off a bit.
- 46:25And what I did, I thought because the credits, I love the
- 46:30credits. By the way, the whole art, and
- 46:32the graphic. And okay, there are a lot of
- 46:35clues in the credits also at the end, which is like a last supper
- 46:38with the frames, are all the clues of the drama's come
- 46:40together in that but incomes character is shown, like,
- 46:44sipping this whole Chalice of alcohol and then she puts it on
- 46:48her head. So I thought that's a big plot
- 46:50device, which is going to hamper or Impact her story in the
- 46:55episodes, but we don't see anybody talk about it ever.
- 46:59Again, after the first driver. So saw three episodes, then
- 47:04she's afterwards going out with her friend and drinking no
- 47:08rehab. Nothing, there is, there's
- 47:11nothing. There's you're right.
- 47:13There's no active way. We don't trade that she is
- 47:17trying to kick the alcoholism. Exactly her addiction and she
- 47:22Let's make a point at some point of saying, you know, I'm going
- 47:25to get clean or whatever. I'm going to stop drinking
- 47:28alcohol and you never see her struggle with that throughout
- 47:33the rest of the show. It's like it likes to stops cold
- 47:36turkey and she never thinks about alcohol over against the
- 47:38rest of the show. Addiction of any kind will have
- 47:42huge withdrawal symptoms, there will be huge withdrawal and you
- 47:46have to go into rehab if you know you are an alcoholic.
- 47:50What are no repercussions or A of that show.
- 47:53No it was just brushed away. So my point is don't show it.
- 47:57Don't show her as an alcoholic. It wasn't critical to the plot.
- 48:00Was it other than her getting fired from the job?
- 48:03So what I have but I would rather her just get fired
- 48:06because she drank one day on the job or just had a bad day or
- 48:10something. Versus she was systemically
- 48:13drinking alcohol every day with the freaking Tequila bottles in
- 48:16her desk, in the whole thing that we have issues with.
- 48:18Yes you know that is a different story than like she gets.
- 48:22She has one bad day, it's a bad Optics and she gets suspended
- 48:27and then fired later because of other reasons, other
- 48:30machinations but II agree with you, completely the suicide
- 48:36stuff, I don't know, like every character seems to have a brush
- 48:39with suicide or was it just the cult members of this society
- 48:45that were demanding suicide of their members?
- 48:49Whenever things got dicey for them?
- 48:51Yeah, so I think the cult. So there was, this is where a
- 48:55lot of people wanted more explanation on the jaw Grant
- 48:58society and the modus operandi of the society.
- 49:01What I drew a At the end of the twelfth episode is, they didn't
- 49:05want to go deep into it. They just wanted to establish
- 49:08the concept of what cult and brainwashing can do to people.
- 49:13And these people are either in a desperate situation, in debt, or
- 49:18they are weak. Or they are the most least
- 49:22powerful in the society where they probably have no agency and
- 49:25they're going to get dragged into it.
- 49:27I think the society was targeting people who could work
- 49:31as the Morris and promised them or them or their family members,
- 49:37a better future in return for their lives.
- 49:39I think that was the ideology that was being driven down.
- 49:43You absolutely brought up a great point that they the Top
- 49:49members of this Jeong dong Society were not just targeting
- 49:54the sisters, they were targeted. Even the people within their own
- 49:58members ship were also victims, like they were all. also being
- 50:04manipulated on a gigantic level, they were you know,
- 50:09indoctrinating children because they had like the school
- 50:12scholarship system, then they would that they were constantly
- 50:16recruiting vulnerable people and the old clip of the general
- 50:21talking about like the farmers and the teachers and whatever
- 50:24else and he was naming poor people like people who were not
- 50:30in you know, middle class herb of these were the Bottom Rung of
- 50:33society and, you know, it was kind of empowering for them when
- 50:38they joined the the Jung society, and they became part of
- 50:41the international Orchid, it Society Club thing and I
- 50:46finished the show without ever having thought of the word cult,
- 50:50when you started talking about cold, I was like of course it's
- 50:52a freaking cold. Like that makes perfect sense
- 50:56that these people have, you know, brainwashed all of these
- 51:02you know lower Evil individuals, quote-unquote to do their
- 51:05bidding and kill themselves, or kill their family or just
- 51:08sacrifice whatever they need to, and it really rocks to you, kind
- 51:13of towards the end when things start to spiral even more.
- 51:16And you see the depths of the society and how many people are
- 51:20involved in it, and just, I've been in India.
- 51:25It's so common with these God men and these followings and
- 51:30certain sex, Etc. There is So much of this Cults
- 51:34happening and people. Blind faith is dangerous.
- 51:38Suggest many aspects. It's very dangerous because you
- 51:42stop rationalizing. And you stop thinking for
- 51:45yourself. You are letting somebody else do
- 51:48the thinking for you and then you are just doing their
- 51:50bidding. And this is very dangerous, and
- 51:53brainwashing is very, very, it happens all the time we see it,
- 51:58be it religious or be it on any level, it happens all the time.
- 52:02So yeah. This, I think this part aspect
- 52:06of what Little Women brought out, a lot of people missed.
- 52:09I feel personally, but this was a big aspect where, I mean, I
- 52:12miss them because I never connected.
- 52:14Cult-like you like the cult aspect of the group to the the
- 52:20society and everything that they were doing because it's fits to
- 52:23a see, I don't know much of the Vietnam War history because
- 52:26there was a bit of a backlash in Vietnam as to how the Koreans
- 52:32roll. The war was shown and you know
- 52:35where the general comes from, but it was that the Korean
- 52:38soldiers went as mercenaries, okay?
- 52:41To help the Americans and the way it is shown in Little Women
- 52:44is both the government and CIA thought they were dispensable.
- 52:49So they sent them on a mission which they would have never come
- 52:52back alive from. So they went through that
- 52:55feeling of Abandonment by the government.
- 52:57Now, of course I don't know the history of it so I'm not in a
- 53:01position to comment on it but what Soon as a theme was when
- 53:05you are abandoned, then they decided to get their Revenge was
- 53:10to go on the country and all the pillars of the society, what
- 53:16politics medical. So why were they grooming the
- 53:18children? So they can install them in
- 53:21different aspects of the society in medicine.
- 53:24And what runs the country, right?
- 53:25Media, that was a big one because big one.
- 53:28Marty was a big character, right?
- 53:30Yeah, yeah, yeah. Then how you manipulate.
- 53:33I think in construction and infrastructure.
- 53:35That's why the miners the real estate mom has the realistic.
- 53:39They have sat back and gained control and are treating
- 53:43everybody like puppets, that's what was happening.
- 53:47And obviously, that's why people felt that they would have liked
- 53:49a little more explanation on the ground Society, but it didn't
- 53:52take away anything. From me, from the drama, I
- 53:54understood, it's more of symbolism and for people to left
- 53:57it open to people for interpretation.
- 53:59That, that was mighty coffee. So there, but unless you side B
- 54:02by The way coming to the fact that why why young went to a
- 54:08Seaside website and thought it was okay, for somebody who
- 54:12wanted to commit, suicide to groom her to look like her,
- 54:16leave Arena apartment and go decide to live her life and get
- 54:20on with her agenda. She needs to pay for it.
- 54:25She's paying for the embezzlement but nobody brought
- 54:31up the issue that she To pay for recruiting that person.
- 54:35And putting that person. How can you do this?
- 54:38Every bodily? It is so problematic to me.
- 54:43So, why on was the character? That was kind of a MacGuffin
- 54:47throughout throughout the show where she was like, is she
- 54:50alive, or is she dead? Not flashy integral to
- 54:52everything. She's kind of been The
- 54:53Mastermind, you know, one woman show for a lot of the Havoc that
- 54:59she caused the society and the upper members.
- 55:03And she comes back at the end of the show.
- 55:05Yes, got it, whatever brand Resurrection.
- 55:07In kdramas in mock Jong Style, we have her a dead character,
- 55:12come back to life, and she was never dead to begin with.
- 55:16Yeah. And yeah, there is that like
- 55:19kind of gloss over aspect that. I think she recruited some
- 55:23suicidal person to pose as her. And that is the body that they
- 55:27find in the, in her apartment and the assume is her.
- 55:31And I Um, I'm not sure if I like necessarily latched onto it the
- 55:36way that you did, but it did it's a loose end because they
- 55:39don't necessarily that she say, that, that's what she's
- 55:42imprisoned for because I, because the embezzlement is so
- 55:45much more present in the show than anything else.
- 55:50And like this issue of like, what well whose body is, this
- 55:53doesn't really matter in the context of the show and you're
- 55:56absolutely right. That that is kind of a major
- 55:59issue that helping don't fall, they just don't cover Yeah,
- 56:03nope, there were no answers, no questions and I'm like, why
- 56:07would you bring this worst? You could have shown, she gets,
- 56:10hold of a dead body. She bribed somebody in the
- 56:12Morgan gets a dead body, looks like her and puts up the dead
- 56:15body something. But then they had to show,
- 56:17Sangha, come and kill her. So the it was so staged.
- 56:21I was like, okay, this is not sitting right this whole concept
- 56:25of you know this getting somebody suicidal and having
- 56:28them murdered is just didn't sit right with me to be very honest.
- 56:32So yeah. Yeah that that left me because
- 56:34their identity and what they're struggling with is not even
- 56:40relevant. You know what I'm saying?
- 56:41They're faceless exactly. So yes it just feels like a
- 56:46device in the plot versus an actual, you know, semi
- 56:51responsible way to deal with even if it is a random
- 56:55character, we never find out their name.
- 56:56Never find out what they really look like whatever.
- 56:59But this you know she should feel maybe remorse.
- 57:03Yes, or guilt for having done this?
- 57:05Yeah, something to this. Poor vulnerable person who
- 57:07wanted to commit suicide. So like, I understand where
- 57:10you're coming from completely those, those two aspects,
- 57:12really, I think they should have done better or not even include
- 57:16additional figured some other way to you know get the song
- 57:19thing. Hi.
- 57:21Yeah. Yeah, that's what.
- 57:23But I think you touched on Sangha though and I what an
- 57:28interesting chaotic character and I If I had guests anything
- 57:35in the course of binging the show.
- 57:38It was that she was the ultimate villain.
- 57:40Yes. Throughout the show and there
- 57:43was something like just like how the sister was like there's
- 57:46something up with this guy there's something up with Json.
- 57:50Yeah I don't like his look he looks super Shady.
- 57:54He's definitely like a cold-blooded killer and nobody
- 57:57was was behind her. Everyone was questioning her.
- 58:00You know the friend as well was Like, how do you see this from
- 58:04this one video that was me with Tsongas.
- 58:07Yes, on those character because they put her on the screen and
- 58:11I'm like, she's playing a victim.
- 58:14Yeah. And but he is totally off.
- 58:17And that is what happened and it happened in Spades.
- 58:22Did she go fucking nuts and Crazy by the end?
- 58:25And she like, there's so many things that I like have to get
- 58:30off my mind. This necessarily, I don't know,
- 58:32like, where to start. But you know, she was a mother.
- 58:36Yeah, to this poor girl healed in Russia, hyped up on drugs was
- 58:40medicating. Probably with God just packed
- 58:44impunity. What the hell was she giving her
- 58:47daughter day in and day out? So she was doing that, and she
- 58:51was also manipulating to know. It's actually probably more
- 58:54often than not her husband, Jay Seung Jo and was playing out
- 59:00this elaborate play. A so theatrical and torturing
- 59:06people just for her own enjoyment.
- 59:10This isn't for Fun For All segments, what dick she was she
- 59:14was really crazy. I have not seen a crazier
- 59:17Villain Like Her honestly. Mmm, she just went off the rails
- 59:22completely. I mean she actually admits right
- 59:25to principal Jung the second-in-command of the general
- 59:29when they are in the hospital that my husband will we The pros
- 59:33and cons before murdering people.
- 59:36I will just go for it. I should have been the natural
- 59:38leader for you guys. Like this woman is totally on
- 59:42drugs, from its heart. It's hard because she was hidden
- 59:47her like, her motivations and her like craziness was hidden
- 59:50throughout most of the show. Of course, I'm sitting here
- 59:53tooting, my own horn saying, I think saw something wrong with
- 59:55her the whole time, but what is Little Women, the show trying to
- 59:59say about, Female pleasure because the only person in the
- 1:00:06entire show who is enjoying themselves doing whatever the
- 1:00:11hell they're is that is they're doing is literally only her.
- 1:00:15She's the only person taking pleasure in controlling and
- 1:00:19manipulating others. Everyone else is just kind of
- 1:00:21like going through the motions whether they're defending
- 1:00:23themselves or their offending others, they're doing it because
- 1:00:26of their own agenda, but they're not necessarily reveling no in
- 1:00:31the pain. Of others but she is so like
- 1:00:35what the hell is that message? I feel like that's a whole like
- 1:00:39a say that we could have on the side.
- 1:00:43What is little women trying to say about mothers?
- 1:00:45Because the point of not the point but the show makes a point
- 1:00:49of basically focusing. Only on the mothers there are a
- 1:00:53couple of Father figures especially jae-sang is like the
- 1:00:56major father figure that they show they show.
- 1:00:59Is it the general? I think who's in comatose Yes,
- 1:01:02yes, it's all follows. Okay, her father that would hurt
- 1:01:08him, but he's comatose. So very few father figures,
- 1:01:11plenty of mother figures. And every mother has an issue is
- 1:01:17not suitable to be a mother. And, you know, even though
- 1:01:22they're the Json, is there as the, like, the one lone.
- 1:01:24Father Figure, he has very few Redemptive qualities and I think
- 1:01:30we are June's dad. It is also shown as well.
- 1:01:33He's like the insole guy with all the weapons.
- 1:01:35Yes. So he actually is the traitor.
- 1:01:37He was the core team of geographic Society, but he
- 1:01:40realizes that as soon as Json takes over and the CEO, he's
- 1:01:46very loyal to the Sun. The CEO.
- 1:01:47Who is put into an asylum? The general Sun Tsongas Brother
- 1:01:52song. Woo.
- 1:01:53Yeah and the the director is the Sony though, his father is very
- 1:01:59loyal to them, and that's why he goes Rogue.
- 1:02:01On them because he wants to expose them and he wants to put
- 1:02:04a full stop to this entire society and cult.
- 1:02:07That's, that's what his plan is. So but, you know, they also he
- 1:02:12gets arrested and we don't know what happens either.
- 1:02:14Yeah, we don't know what the hell happens to the dad after
- 1:02:16they arrest him for the weapons on a weapons charge.
- 1:02:19But I mean since episode one, they have struck the writers and
- 1:02:23showrunners have strong appearing opinions about the
- 1:02:25mothers. Yeah, someone says some people
- 1:02:29should never become mothers. Sadly, our mother is one of
- 1:02:31them. Um, in kyung and and you say it
- 1:02:34too. And he, I mean cheetah runs
- 1:02:36every, with her daughter's. The daughter's birthday money
- 1:02:39gave. I just couldn't fathom this.
- 1:02:42I was like, oh my gosh, I had in all caps.
- 1:02:45Fuck that Mom in my nose. What the first?
- 1:02:5120 minutes of the episode 1? This happens and she goes, are
- 1:02:55you are young, you will have many more opportunities.
- 1:02:58What the hell? You bitch?
- 1:02:59Mom takes away. Her daughter smile.
- 1:03:01Like I was absolutely stunned. Yeah, that we're kind of
- 1:03:06starting off on this foot that the mother.
- 1:03:10It's traditionally a pillar of family, a pillar of stability,
- 1:03:14especially in kdramas. And like, every mother figure is
- 1:03:17fucking nuts. In the show, cannot be counted
- 1:03:22on for one single thing. There are murderous murderous
- 1:03:25insane people yes, or their amenable thieves.
- 1:03:31The kids, that's what they do. Yeah.
- 1:03:33Yeah. And I do, you do, you realize
- 1:03:35even when she keeps obsessing over your rain?
- 1:03:38But when in here and you're in, run away, hmm.
- 1:03:42There is no remorse about the fact that her daughter has run
- 1:03:46away. The remorse is that I may have
- 1:03:48lost to these two to a name. I may have lost the plot.
- 1:03:52Okay, it's not about my daughters gone away from me.
- 1:03:56No, no, no. She doesn't.
- 1:03:58She doesn't care about her well-being at all Dawn.
- 1:04:01Not at all, not at all. It's ugly.
- 1:04:03It's just ugly and very ugly. It's very ugly.
- 1:04:06And my next question, talking about how, like, the tragic
- 1:04:10portrayal of mothers in the show is, is why did they choose the
- 1:04:14story of Little Women to do this adaptation?
- 1:04:19I would love to ask you that question.
- 1:04:20And I haven't really sat with the question that long, but
- 1:04:24here's my two cents from thinking about this question is
- 1:04:28that little women is a story of female empowerment, and of, you
- 1:04:33know, sisterly bonds and overcoming poverty with just joy
- 1:04:40and the love between sisters between family and friends.
- 1:04:46And it is a story of the Our neighbor.
- 1:04:49Right? Who's Lori and his grandfather?
- 1:04:52Who are extravagantly? Rich rich.
- 1:04:54Yeah. And their next door.
- 1:04:56Neighbors. Who are extravagantly poor
- 1:04:59coming together and finding commonalities and hanging out
- 1:05:03together and comforting each other during this time.
- 1:05:06Because the father again is absent.
- 1:05:09Yeah. Because he's at the water,
- 1:05:10right? He's like that these in the war.
- 1:05:12Yeah. He's fighting in the Civil War.
- 1:05:14On the good side of, so speak. Use a northern Soldier and that
- 1:05:19is turned completely on its head completely in this story, right?
- 1:05:25Yeah, you have terrible fathers, you have shitty mothers, the
- 1:05:31bridge and the poor are not singing Kumbaya together and
- 1:05:34having family dinners together. No one's giving each other, you
- 1:05:37know, Pat's on the back for giving away their their
- 1:05:41Christmas breakfast and things like that.
- 1:05:44Beth never receives a piano that sister actually died way earlier
- 1:05:48in there in the family history. I mean, it is just horrific.
- 1:05:54Yes. And I think they chose that
- 1:05:57story on purpose because it is beloved and you can see the
- 1:06:00characterizations ever. So slightly in these sisters,
- 1:06:05you know, you have the bookish sister that's Joe and you have
- 1:06:08the of the eldest, who's looking out from the Waters of Life, who
- 1:06:11wants to buy wants a good life, who wants money is and That's
- 1:06:14Meg. Yeah, they're there in spirit
- 1:06:20but the spirit of the book was bastardized in this adaptation
- 1:06:28truly and it is kind of I don't know what they're trying to set.
- 1:06:31Like what what do you think about?
- 1:06:34So the choosing of Little Women. Yes.
- 1:06:36So this is why I think a lot of people also don't like the drama
- 1:06:40because they wanted to just see the adaptation of Little Women.
- 1:06:45She just dawned on its head and she's like, look, I'm going to
- 1:06:48set it in modern. I have not read her interview or
- 1:06:50what her thoughts were to be very honest, is just my own.
- 1:06:53How I saw the drama, you know what?
- 1:06:55Let's pause here and say, yeah, it doesn't matter what they say
- 1:06:57in interviews. Truly, this is Art and I open
- 1:07:02its art and I can interpret it. However, we want.
- 1:07:04And you know what? If we interviewed them and our
- 1:07:08interpretation is completely different from what they had in
- 1:07:10mind, I'm sure they would be completely okay with it.
- 1:07:12Yes, possibly. So yeah.
- 1:07:14You go. So I think she wanted to address
- 1:07:17the like I said a very very first half the modern-day theme
- 1:07:20set in Korea and how capitalism impacts the common man.
- 1:07:27I think that's what they brought it to bring.
- 1:07:30And the class difference. We do say now, people are more
- 1:07:34empowered, people have more opportunities, but I also feel
- 1:07:36that capitalism drives a huge class drift as well.
- 1:07:40And that's a fact of Our Lives, okay, there's nothing right or
- 1:07:43wrong, but This is a consequence of what is happening in the
- 1:07:48society and power, corrupts greed, kurup's money columns.
- 1:07:55I think that's what she wanted to bring those themes in, but
- 1:07:59how do you pull the hook on the audience is get them to from a
- 1:08:05classic? Popular novel.
- 1:08:09And let me throw the modern day problems in your face from all
- 1:08:14sides, where there's another thing L, happy character and let
- 1:08:17me know what you think about it. That's what they played at,
- 1:08:20that's what they played. I I like what they did and I
- 1:08:25also don't like what they did. You can always argue, you know,
- 1:08:28when people, there's so many people out there who hate film
- 1:08:34or TV adaptations of literary works for A reason because o it
- 1:08:38doesn't follow the original. Oh they cast someone who looks
- 1:08:40different from the book, whatever, whatever murmur.
- 1:08:44And to me, I'm not never one of those people who really gets
- 1:08:48upset when they change things from the book and that, you
- 1:08:52know, the movies, vastly different or whatever.
- 1:08:54Because again, it's art and it's an interpretation.
- 1:08:57And it's, you know, even if the characters have the same names
- 1:09:01and go through the same things, you can make changes like,
- 1:09:04that's their prerogative. And you will always have have
- 1:09:07the book there to Be steady and sure and have give you that
- 1:09:12comfort that you wish for whenever or that you have
- 1:09:15whenever you read the book, good idea people want like a 14-1 all
- 1:09:18the time. This went beyond not doing a
- 1:09:2214-1 into like the soul of the book was United, shredded
- 1:09:29tarnished and I think that should probably disturb people
- 1:09:35more than hey, they didn't give back You know Beth a piano or
- 1:09:39hey they didn't they didn't set this in and civil war-era
- 1:09:43America, you know, that they didn't have a marriage at the
- 1:09:47end or whatever. They didn't have the great, Joe
- 1:09:52and Laurie confession, that is very popular.
- 1:09:56And in all the adaptations, they didn't have any of that.
- 1:09:59They did away like the favorite site off.
- 1:10:02Yeah but Jess they did to get you a lot it.
- 1:10:05Together at the end. Maybe you dr.
- 1:10:06Gibson Segue from all the heavy talk they actually got Lori and
- 1:10:14Joe. Those characters together.
- 1:10:17Exactly. And inkyung was, you know,
- 1:10:21spouting the same thing as her book counterpart saying like you
- 1:10:24know, we're not good together. We're just very comfortable with
- 1:10:28each other. We don't need to be romantic
- 1:10:30Partners. You don't excite me and all this
- 1:10:32stuff. Fine.
- 1:10:33Fine, fine. So I was like, okay, her
- 1:10:35archetype is the same Ben The like the also like to get is the
- 1:10:40last episode lost if she actually gets with the Catholic
- 1:10:44Glory character. Yeah.
- 1:10:46Who is played by Kang moon and the character's name is Hidalgo
- 1:10:50and that guy like actually gets the girl and I was so surprised
- 1:10:55yeah me too. All the changes that was the one
- 1:10:58that really surprised But I'll be honest, I did go expecting
- 1:11:04that she would stay true to the book at all.
- 1:11:08I actually wanted to see how she's going to alter it to
- 1:11:11modern-day Korea. I want to see, I wasn't even
- 1:11:14sure if it was set in the modern day.
- 1:11:16Corey, how she was going to go a little historic?
- 1:11:18I don't know. Suddenly when the Japanese were
- 1:11:21younger, when Korea was under Japanese Colonial, with our
- 1:11:23colonial rule, I didn't know, but when I saw the first episode
- 1:11:27because I wash it with such an open mind, I said this is going
- 1:11:30to be wild. Up for it.
- 1:11:32Yes, I'm up for it. Let's go along with this.
- 1:11:35Let's go. So I didn't I didn't really care
- 1:11:38about the book as much. It was okay for me, but also
- 1:11:41it's not a favorite of mine. I read it.
- 1:11:43Like I said, I got it as a classic must read that you have
- 1:11:46in school. Yeah.
- 1:11:47I mean, I have a really stinky old copy in my library that I
- 1:11:52have not read since I was a child and it's there but
- 1:11:56nothing. I am gonna read it exactly.
- 1:11:58Um, I think that, That you touched on capitalism which is a
- 1:12:03huge theme or almost like a secondary antagonist is in this
- 1:12:09story, is how capitalism corrupts those around it?
- 1:12:13And I almost don't want to just say, like, capitalism, because I
- 1:12:17am. I love capitalism, like I love,
- 1:12:19isn't who'd? Yeah, it's fine.
- 1:12:21It's I think we're dealing. Yeah, we're dealing with
- 1:12:25extremes, right? We're dealing with extremes of
- 1:12:29capitalism and money. And at first, we have some come,
- 1:12:34I think we have competing ideologies surrounding money, to
- 1:12:38be quite honest with you, especially, you know, we have
- 1:12:42quotes from cyst, the sister saying people may lie, but money
- 1:12:46is honest and a lot of people will comment.
- 1:12:49Come at this and say maybe that money is not itself evil, but it
- 1:12:54can corrupt people and it can cause issues and all this stuff
- 1:12:58because right? Like you know, money itself is
- 1:13:01not evil. Correct.
- 1:13:02And they do kind of touch on that in the final episode
- 1:13:05because is money evil, not necessarily because it provides
- 1:13:09the sisters with freedom and agency to do as they pleased to
- 1:13:13finally, live the life that they want.
- 1:13:16Yeah. Right.
- 1:13:17I'm the also need money. Just yes.
- 1:13:20Are you telling me that this idealistic notion that?
- 1:13:23Oh, you can be more happy without money?
- 1:13:26No, we need money. We may need to make sure we are
- 1:13:30not greedy enough. To ruin our happiness.
- 1:13:33Because in our quest for money, we need enough to be happy but
- 1:13:38you cannot do without money. We won't be leading.
- 1:13:41We can't live without money. It's a fight.
- 1:13:43Exactly. Exactly.
- 1:13:44And the obsession with money in this show is not necessarily
- 1:13:50just to have money. It's a form of social control,
- 1:13:55which is what the society was going for.
- 1:13:58Was all of this wealth was not necessarily for their All
- 1:14:03pleasure, which is what I said earlier.
- 1:14:04Like, there's very little pleasure of these characters.
- 1:14:07Even though they are immensely Rich, they're gaining pleasure
- 1:14:10from other, like the application of money and the using it to
- 1:14:14torture. Best those less fortunate and
- 1:14:16the sisters especially exactly but they are controlling
- 1:14:21Society. They're controlling the media.
- 1:14:22They're controlling all of these different the real estate market
- 1:14:26and things like that. They have had a major hand in
- 1:14:29shaping Korea as As it stands today.
- 1:14:33Well, in the context of the show I should say, but yes, it it
- 1:14:37really kind of makes you think and I think that's the point is
- 1:14:42to make you think make you question and it does feel like
- 1:14:47Annex just as much as the psycho mom.
- 1:14:51Sangha is experimenting on the sisters, especially Tim Gunn's
- 1:14:58character. She's also kind of initiating.
- 1:15:02An experiment on the audience as well.
- 1:15:05It's not just the sisters psyche that she's messing with.
- 1:15:07She's messing with our own, our own audiences psyche.
- 1:15:10Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:15:12Absolutely. So like you said, write it there
- 1:15:17was even better in Jus when she income doesn't.
- 1:15:20Remember the third sister's death as a child because she was
- 1:15:24too small or the also trauma can wipe off your memory or block
- 1:15:27your memory. Yes.
- 1:15:29Okay. So that's what happened with in
- 1:15:31kyung. So when In Jude tells her, and
- 1:15:33this is this what I said to force a generational trauma in.
- 1:15:37He paints a picture of a girl dying in the woods and she says,
- 1:15:40it's my dying sister and in he hasn't ever known because she
- 1:15:44was born after in see on in Xi'an is the is Beth basically
- 1:15:48who dies in because they can give a treatment on time and
- 1:15:53then we come to know that her mom had briefly once mentioned
- 1:15:56called in. Hey, in see on and briefly
- 1:15:58mentioned that I carried my child on my shoulders and my I
- 1:16:01couldn't Treatment for my child. So it's in in his conscience
- 1:16:05Consciousness also that she was an unwanted child that her
- 1:16:08mother didn't want her. That's an awful feeling to grow
- 1:16:11up. And so, while not the first six
- 1:16:13episodes people are hating on inhibit time.
- 1:16:15She such a selfish Carol. Yes.
- 1:16:17Why she there in the drama but come on.
- 1:16:21I saw some of that heat as well. Come on, think of it.
- 1:16:23Imagine you grow up with the feeling that you were never
- 1:16:25wanted in the family and now your two sisters are going out
- 1:16:28of their waves, the themselves being in misery but making sure.
- 1:16:31You're happy. It's love becomes an obligation
- 1:16:35and it should never become like that.
- 1:16:37So any has that whole lot of trauma internally?
- 1:16:42She's feet trying to face and what she wants is she wants
- 1:16:45Liberation from all of this freedom from all fit, where she
- 1:16:48can just live her life and be happy with her sisters.
- 1:16:52Without this exchange or burden of how much my sisters are doing
- 1:16:55for me and it's variation culture.
- 1:16:57All right? How much our parents have done
- 1:16:59for you. So your parents expect you to
- 1:17:01return that I grew up as a child.
- 1:17:03How much you do for your siblings sacrifice?
- 1:17:05You know, give your youngest the best all these aspects in.
- 1:17:10He doesn't want that. He says to include.
- 1:17:13I want to be loved for my talents.
- 1:17:14That was really frustrating to me, because I come from a vastly
- 1:17:18different, you know, family background on my Hispanic and
- 1:17:22we're very close knit and I do I think it because I'm also an
- 1:17:27elder sister. I felt completely on the side of
- 1:17:31in do an during when they're trying to protect her sister and
- 1:17:34they're doing their best to like, give her a freakin
- 1:17:36birthday cake for her birthday. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:17:38They're that. Yes, they are going out of the
- 1:17:40way. Yes they are putting themselves
- 1:17:41In Harm's Way to protect her and give her whatever she needs but
- 1:17:47her saying you know she hates being loved unconditionally.
- 1:17:52She thought like I thought that was the most ridiculous thing
- 1:17:54I've ever heard because she felt I'd like you said she felt
- 1:17:58burdensome for all these reasons she definitely had all of this
- 1:18:00trauma that she was dealing. She let had this morose look on
- 1:18:04her face. The entire show, good that she
- 1:18:06was depressed. She was haunted.
- 1:18:08She used her art as an outlet for sure, but I didn't quite gel
- 1:18:14with the the fact that she despised their love and
- 1:18:17protection and said that you'd rather be loved for her Talent
- 1:18:20OR for how useful she can be. Because why does she insist on
- 1:18:25gunning for love that accept that exists with conditions?
- 1:18:28Good that doesn't make any sense to me.
- 1:18:31Me, you know, that was the perspective.
- 1:18:35People are like, why be? You know we are just taught to
- 1:18:38love people, our family and our siblings unconditionally, right?
- 1:18:41There's never a give and take, but she grew up with that burden
- 1:18:45and I could. I'm not saying I empathized with
- 1:18:48in here a lot, but I could see where she was coming from.
- 1:18:52And why she felt that burden all the time because at the end, she
- 1:18:56tells in Jus when you know, she distribute the money and income
- 1:19:01go live your life. Study what you couldn't because
- 1:19:03of our poverty and she doesn't do buy the apartment not for
- 1:19:07your sisters, but for yourself. Hmm.
- 1:19:10Free yourself from thinking about us live for yourself.
- 1:19:13And that was such a sweet message that in Jus realized
- 1:19:17that she first. Sometimes there's no harm in
- 1:19:19putting yourself above others. It's not that, she loves her
- 1:19:23sisters less, or whatever, it's not going to change.
- 1:19:27But in in, you can spend the money on apartment and she can
- 1:19:30go by how many Ice creams branded ice cream.
- 1:19:33She wants or the lip glosses in wants to have because she's
- 1:19:36never really lived for herself. So let her live for herself.
- 1:19:40So I agree completely, I agree with you completely that the
- 1:19:43final scene where the younger sister is, and for some reason
- 1:19:49in control of splitting up the money, which I never understood,
- 1:19:53which was the by, don't fall, I have no fucking clue why that's
- 1:19:56happening in the final episode. Why does the teenager gets a
- 1:19:59split up the built? Like what does that A million
- 1:20:02dollars. Yeah, with all the players, all
- 1:20:06the players that are left. That's another loophole.
- 1:20:09Oh, we won't. Yeah, I'm Adrianna.
- 1:20:12But anyway, um, she tells me postures, be kind of explaining
- 1:20:16everything just will be out of the doors.
- 1:20:19I know, I know, but she does give a very nice poetic reason
- 1:20:24for the Sisters to do as they please, what they want in their
- 1:20:28heart of hearts. And in Jus always wanted to have
- 1:20:32a home. That was her goal is to have a
- 1:20:35home that she called her own and she had, this really great
- 1:20:37moment with the eye. Where the I was like the soul of
- 1:20:40the person connects with the soul and the Soul.
- 1:20:43Yeah, yeah, she was like, at the apartment accepts.
- 1:20:46You then, I have no choice, but to let it and I know it is very
- 1:20:49poetic coming from a lady. That seems to only deal in
- 1:20:52absolutes and only deal with numbers.
- 1:20:55I love the character by the way I'd roll.
- 1:20:57Oh yeah, she was fantastic. Yeah, aesthetic.
- 1:21:00Really Kick-Ass. I was not happy that she got
- 1:21:03bumped off. I'm like, I want here to
- 1:21:05actually join hands with the sisters.
- 1:21:07Yes. Then Picture because she was The
- 1:21:09Insider in the group, yeah, right.
- 1:21:11Yeah, I knew it all. So I would have she had all
- 1:21:14these documents she was in there since the 70s sheet and
- 1:21:17understood the enemy. And I was like, okay, like we
- 1:21:20got an ally but, ya know, she fucking dies.
- 1:21:24I've always liked ceremony for nothing.
- 1:21:28Really. I mean, No, nothing song got
- 1:21:32realizes that she could turn on her, which is why she snaps that
- 1:21:35off immediately remember Jamie, what I mean is like, you know,
- 1:21:40it doesn't. It wasn't as powerful.
- 1:21:43Yeah, in the story, as if you study got a, she had joined
- 1:21:47hands with her nieces grandnieces and wreak some Havoc
- 1:21:50before getting bumped off. I saw one guy I know I was, I
- 1:21:54was very upset. I'm Lee.
- 1:21:55Why would you kill her? It would have been more fun.
- 1:21:56If there was a then it would have been a little more, even
- 1:21:59the balance. Would have been even though.
- 1:22:02Yes, because you would have had more moments like when they're
- 1:22:05about to pay for the younger sister.
- 1:22:06Yes! Surgery, and then she comes out
- 1:22:08of nowhere. I like that.
- 1:22:09That's down the house, a great moment but they didn't get their
- 1:22:13way, you know what I'm saying? Didn't get the pr that they
- 1:22:16wanted out of this whole situation.
- 1:22:19It was, it was a really good moment attention.
- 1:22:21Like you didn't expect her to come out of nowhere, like pay
- 1:22:24for the surgery but then you're like, of course, I'm makes
- 1:22:26perfect sense because that's her niece.
- 1:22:27Like why wouldn't why wouldn't any of it?
- 1:22:31But moments like that could have happened in the latter half of
- 1:22:34the show. But they took her off the plane
- 1:22:36board. Yeah, I know.
- 1:22:38I know. So I was also a little and a
- 1:22:39little. I was quite sad about.
- 1:22:41I'm sad about that, but I think we should talk about the main
- 1:22:44characters in June. Don't go for it.
- 1:22:48Go, I'm going to say this and I know you're a Kim goeun fan, but
- 1:22:52I'll tell you, I was very neutral towards, okay, at Cena
- 1:22:55and you me, sell cheese in the Trap.
- 1:22:57I was watching Goblin on and off.
- 1:23:00Drinking problem when little bit started.
- 1:23:03Yeah. And I didn't like her at all and
- 1:23:05Goblin. I'm like, stop bullying.
- 1:23:07You cannot convince me as a high schooler.
- 1:23:09Okay. Okay.
- 1:23:10I was afraid she was in her twenties.
- 1:23:13I was very frustrated, like, Kim tidy and Kim dummy.
- 1:23:16Convince me as high school kids, really knocking Goodwin.
- 1:23:21Wow, this is not sitting right with me.
- 1:23:24Okay, so I wasn't liking Goblin at all and Little Women started.
- 1:23:30And Jess at the end of Little Women.
- 1:23:33I, I started for Nam Ji-hyun who I loved in the drama, but my
- 1:23:38biggest moments, my favorite scenes are all Kim goeun.
- 1:23:43I loved her, I loved her as an into her.
- 1:23:47She was so naive. So innocent.
- 1:23:51I was always frustrated to the point in June.
- 1:23:53Yeah, why are you blurting out everything to any stranger?
- 1:23:56You meet? Why are you so open with people?
- 1:23:58Why don't you have a filter to your mouth?
- 1:24:00You're not supposed to tell everybody everything.
- 1:24:02Yeah, she was parading the two billion in a backpack and taking
- 1:24:06it all over. How is nobody catching around
- 1:24:09CCD, when they caught her with the 7ml back at the yoga studio,
- 1:24:13in front of the same freaking Locker.
- 1:24:16I was like, what she's going about this all wrong.
- 1:24:20Like she didn't think this through, no strategy involved,
- 1:24:22she was just like the same freaking bag.
- 1:24:28I was like I would have gone about this.
- 1:24:30Totally differently differently. Exact yeah, I would have taken
- 1:24:34the two billion won and we would have you know figured a way out
- 1:24:37of get out of the country and just be somewhere else.
- 1:24:41Okay? But I also love the fact that
- 1:24:44she was, as you said, not financially literate, right?
- 1:24:47People manipulated her all the time.
- 1:24:49Yes, she had no business right for her, she had the money and
- 1:24:54she could have deposited in small amounts in different
- 1:24:57banks, whatever and decided to. Go Rogue or get away from it all
- 1:25:03but she was so loyal to her friend.
- 1:25:05She had no business investigating why young?
- 1:25:09Yeah. She was out of her dead husband
- 1:25:10before she even started. Exactly.
- 1:25:13But I think some there you are. It's a spirit, right?
- 1:25:17She may not be capable and she may not see it to the end, but
- 1:25:21she was determined to get Justice for her friend and I
- 1:25:25loved her protector. She was about her sisters as
- 1:25:27well. So within our Ian's, I think
- 1:25:31Andrew was fantastic and I think everybody rallied around to help
- 1:25:34her at the end. Is because how in do was, as a
- 1:25:37character, I will say that in the context of Little Women, the
- 1:25:41story Meg is not really, you know, the most compelling
- 1:25:45character. I won't say the protagonist of
- 1:25:47Little Women is really a joke Joe.
- 1:25:49It's always been Joe. Yes always been Joe.
- 1:25:51Yeah. And for them to choose Meg's you
- 1:25:54know character whatever characterization to be the
- 1:25:57vehicle for this show of All the sisters are very important to
- 1:26:02the show but really is judicial for me.
- 1:26:06Is driving. Yeah, yes, it's her tragedy that
- 1:26:10happened to show that unfolds and I think that was done on
- 1:26:15purpose. She's the most sympathetic one.
- 1:26:16If you throw her into this mess who is going to incite the most
- 1:26:21audience, sympathy it, so, it's Meg.
- 1:26:24Yeah, yes. So I really love that about her
- 1:26:29two things. I have to talk about, you know,
- 1:26:31when at the end, the father Doyle's.
- 1:26:34Father, she and in you are getting out of the hospital.
- 1:26:38And first of all, she's humiliated that they didn't
- 1:26:41think it was important to let her in on the plot because yeah,
- 1:26:43it hurt to cry. She totally humiliated and
- 1:26:46upset, they don't think and it shows on her face, she's so
- 1:26:50lovely. And the police come and Doyle
- 1:26:53and father, I like quite stoic and in, just, like, hands up.
- 1:26:56Hands up. Hands up.
- 1:27:00I I love the reaction. So what I was laughing my heart
- 1:27:04out the other bit was you know she takes the punches from the
- 1:27:09AHA. Yes.
- 1:27:10Okay. And it isn't when they are on
- 1:27:12the Terrace when in Cuba, I love this part as well.
- 1:27:15This is awesome. I know it's where she gets the
- 1:27:17five hits back. Yes, I do.
- 1:27:19I was so good. Yes.
- 1:27:23So satisfying for her to see what she had.
- 1:27:26Like a pipe. A lead pestle started whacking
- 1:27:29her with it and I Like more more go on over there and go for 20.
- 1:27:33Yeah, yeah. So I really like that part 2,
- 1:27:36because I felt like she had seized control again, very short
- 1:27:40amount of time. Because then stopped again, they
- 1:27:42get taken and taken to the basement and stuff - baby.
- 1:27:46But I agree with you that Kim gotten was such a great vehicle
- 1:27:53for the show. Jess, if she's not nominated for
- 1:27:57back. Oh, back.
- 1:27:58Sing this year, I'm gonna be honest.
- 1:28:00That. Okay.
- 1:28:01I really hard and OMG 1 as the villain to me, they'd really
- 1:28:05need a nomination. Okay, I can't say she should win
- 1:28:09it because I think him, no, Kim Theory, already one, right?
- 1:28:13They popped? Yeah, that's him.
- 1:28:15Terry already 14. 2014. So I think she's very much in
- 1:28:18contention for a boxing. I think true.
- 1:28:21True, she was fantastic. You mentioned about just bumming
- 1:28:26off with the money and escaping and I think that was enough.
- 1:28:30Other topic or theme of the show was especially when the two
- 1:28:34girls, the younger sister and her BFF decide to escape to
- 1:28:40Japan. As if the situation in Korea is
- 1:28:42completely hopeless. You know, those with power and
- 1:28:46money just as the show keeps harping on, they control the
- 1:28:49narrative. So inkyung the middle sister is
- 1:28:54by this point you realize she's only making dense only small
- 1:28:58dents in this vast. Like conglomerate of murder and
- 1:29:03thievery that's happening and all her best efforts.
- 1:29:06Don't do much to quell. The evil of this cult in this
- 1:29:10family. So are the only two options to
- 1:29:15flee or to join like that's kind of the only two options to show
- 1:29:22was like these are valid options because to stay is a futile
- 1:29:25effort to stay to enact, Justice to bring them all of Their
- 1:29:30misdeeds to light. It's not going to happen.
- 1:29:32And truly by the end of the show.
- 1:29:35It really doesn't quite happen on the level that you wanted to.
- 1:29:39Exactly exactly. Because didn't you think Tsonga?
- 1:29:43Had it easy? Yes.
- 1:29:45I was. That was literally where I was
- 1:29:47heading to Next, was her demise. Yeah.
- 1:29:51You know, she never got the Reckoning that you wanted by law
- 1:29:55or by the sisters or by any anybody that she hurt.
- 1:29:59She literally just Ellen to a pool of hydrochloric acid acid.
- 1:30:02And what was that? That was Ott who feels
- 1:30:05hydrochloric acid in the pipes. What's going on?
- 1:30:10It was, but I had a lot of fun with that scene.
- 1:30:14She was like, I'm gonna have this button that's gonna release
- 1:30:17all. This hydrochloric acid, is
- 1:30:18gonna, that's exciting. I was like, bitch, what are you
- 1:30:22doing? Why don't you get hydrochloric
- 1:30:24acid like which which Rookie of yours help you fill up?
- 1:30:30With all of this, I took lauric acid.
- 1:30:32It was, it was very cartoony. Very cool.
- 1:30:35Now, this is the kind of plot that like, you know, Batman
- 1:30:39villains. Come up.
- 1:30:40Yeah, exactly. No, it's not.
- 1:30:43I really didn't expect it to go in that direction for the next.
- 1:30:47This is the the face face off that you've wanted to see the
- 1:30:50whole show. It's like all these women in one
- 1:30:53room and it finally happens in. Like what the hell was that?
- 1:30:58What even is that? He's a knight comes a victim of
- 1:31:01her own elaborate dramatic scheme.
- 1:31:03She's all for like the theatrics and it's as much theatrics as it
- 1:31:09was, it was very anticlimactic, very anti climatic.
- 1:31:12But at the same time, I had very like, I had very contradictory
- 1:31:17or opposing feelings. It's like, I cannot handle this
- 1:31:20hydrochloric acid, but I'm actually loving the poetic
- 1:31:23justice that Sangha is being killed by her own plot device,
- 1:31:27which is beautiful to watch. I get that I really do but I
- 1:31:35just I just asked her. Just hit me.
- 1:31:37I was like, what's going on? It's yeah, it's mainly.
- 1:31:40When I went from like being an all like, oh, I'm having a lot
- 1:31:43of fun. Now, this is just bordering on
- 1:31:45David. He's right.
- 1:31:47Yeah, like this somewhere inside.
- 1:31:49They had this room with no doors that they the mother.
- 1:31:55The mothers. Yes captain.
- 1:31:57And then she put the younger sister in and Was like somewhere
- 1:32:01inside and in the diorama that she made in art school and
- 1:32:05that's good that room and her mother hanging herself.
- 1:32:08And so I was like, this is very wild a lot.
- 1:32:12Yeah. But have you seen Mouse?
- 1:32:16No, I have it. Okay.
- 1:32:17Anyway, so the provides is basically they detect if there
- 1:32:23are, you can detect if they have in the DNA.
- 1:32:26If there's a psychopathic DNA in the fetus, And that's how you
- 1:32:32can decide whether what they the the research comes up with this
- 1:32:3699%, they will become Psychopaths 1%.
- 1:32:39That Gene presence of The Da. A gene will not be.
- 1:32:43Any Gene will cause them to become 99% Psychopaths. 1% could
- 1:32:48be genius, okay? And there is a trigger.
- 1:32:51So, there is a trigger, every psychopath.
- 1:32:53There will be some trigger, which will Push them away the
- 1:32:57dark cycle. You know, push them over to do
- 1:33:01mother for fun or kill for fun, or whatever.
- 1:33:04Okay, her mother's death trauma which she cost.
- 1:33:10Yeah, yeah. She already must have had she
- 1:33:14already must have had Psychopathic Tendencies.
- 1:33:17She was already a psychopath because she'll never cited with
- 1:33:20her mom. She was like, why isn't she
- 1:33:22sticking by me as a mom? But I'm wanting to be in my life
- 1:33:25when she got. Why does she have morals?
- 1:33:28God ain't gonna choose questioning her mom, because her
- 1:33:30mom was upset with all of the crazy Misty's that the dad was
- 1:33:34good, General was doing. And like she didn't, she didn't
- 1:33:39take the out that she had, which was to beg for forgiveness and
- 1:33:42beg for her life. And then she'd be loved back
- 1:33:44into the family, and she didn't do that.
- 1:33:46She didn't do it, right? So you, you would understand
- 1:33:49somebody with the moral compass would have understood the
- 1:33:52mother's point of view, but seung-ah was so Chest.
- 1:33:56And so Psychopathic in nature that she did.
- 1:33:59But then she also loved her mother and she caused the death
- 1:34:03of a loved one. That's a double trauma hit to,
- 1:34:06right? And then she then no mother made
- 1:34:09her staged her death or whatever, so that it looks like
- 1:34:11a suicide that's Bonkers for a child.
- 1:34:15And that just pushed her off the edge.
- 1:34:17So there you have. She was, she was super
- 1:34:19theatrical. And with theatrical Ian and even
- 1:34:23J song. Actually, if you realized they
- 1:34:25had a very, very he was evil and selfish and everything but he
- 1:34:31was the only person who loved her.
- 1:34:33Yes, truly loved her, that loved her true self eyes.
- 1:34:36Yeah, he didn't sacrifice himself for the society.
- 1:34:39He sacrificed himself for her for her, cause she if anybody
- 1:34:43else had said anything, I don't think he would have done it.
- 1:34:45I've done it because she gave him the flower.
- 1:34:49He did it, he did it. Yeah, he did it.
- 1:34:51I mean, that's what's so crazy way of showing unconditional
- 1:34:54love. But yeah, the plot did so that
- 1:34:57as well. So they had a very weird
- 1:35:00relationship. I was weird at his growing a
- 1:35:02beard. So yeah, I think the last
- 1:35:07character that I definitely want to talk about is we Edge?
- 1:35:10Ins cash. That's what I'm saying.
- 1:35:12We have to talk about that because I feel like in consuming
- 1:35:20most of the spoiler effect kdrama edits that came out
- 1:35:24during little. Woman's are a people Were
- 1:35:28latching onto. We had Tunes character and the
- 1:35:32romance. Not even tell me.
- 1:35:35Okay, and kindergartens character.
- 1:35:37And there was when I finally saw it, like, I finally saw the
- 1:35:41almighty Little Women show girls like I do like I.
- 1:35:46All right, so everyone was talking about like their
- 1:35:50chemistry or just the way that they interacted with each other
- 1:35:54and I was under the impression that there might have been
- 1:35:56Romance. No, no, and no, on all accounts,
- 1:36:01people are fucking nuts for it. There they are.
- 1:36:04They, I don't understand how you can wash this and think he's in
- 1:36:09love with her. Like, I don't think it would
- 1:36:11even went that far. No, no, no.
- 1:36:14He never acknowledged that. He loved her.
- 1:36:16Like, I do, what do you think so many attacks?
- 1:36:19I'll be very honest. I love their Dynamic on screen.
- 1:36:22I like that. He was such a mysterious
- 1:36:25character. Yes, but I'll be honest.
- 1:36:28Tons of acting. If you compare an acting
- 1:36:31Provost, Kim go Eun was just killing every city and every
- 1:36:37moment that my eyes were focused on her large and then capture my
- 1:36:41attention as much from an acting perspective.
- 1:36:45But I love their scenes together, I love the dynamic.
- 1:36:48I loved how he dropped, everything to go help her out.
- 1:36:54By the way, another bit he was consistent.
- 1:36:57People who are like, oh, you should have got together with
- 1:36:59her Yutaka. If we are June character Doyle
- 1:37:03whose main aim is money, to make money, and all he has learned is
- 1:37:07only to earn money from for whatever hook or by crook right.
- 1:37:11If he had dropped, the leader of whatever.
- 1:37:14The nominal amount of 10 billion won versus a 70 billion want,
- 1:37:17just because he's decided like he's realized he's falling in
- 1:37:20love with in do. And you want to spend the rest
- 1:37:22of his life with her Etc? Be totally inconsistent.
- 1:37:25Yeah, his character don't lean. Assistant.
- 1:37:28I love the fact that they let it open and left it open-ended.
- 1:37:33They may come and meet each other again coin.
- 1:37:36Yeah. And I'm in episode 3.
- 1:37:38I have this note here that we had June is such a slippery
- 1:37:41character with no moral standard to make him want to investigate
- 1:37:45the murders of the slush fund managers.
- 1:37:47He only wants to recover the 70 billion.
- 1:37:49Why exactly? And when she calls him after the
- 1:37:53guy drives his car off the parking garage.
- 1:37:56So the first thing he asked is If she's all right, and at the
- 1:37:58hospital, he sits beside her and actually I'll talk about that in
- 1:38:03a second. But anyway, you're right.
- 1:38:05That his characterization is pretty consistent and he's very
- 1:38:08all he's ever wanted is to escape with the money and go to
- 1:38:11one of these safe cities that has all of these questionable
- 1:38:15characters looking at it and that's what he does.
- 1:38:19At the end of the show, he takes his ten billion dollars fucks
- 1:38:22off to Greece and of course in the future you can write some
- 1:38:26sort of narrative where Get together.
- 1:38:28But was it like a cut-and-dry thing?
- 1:38:31No, no, no. I think the most surprising
- 1:38:34thing was that he orchestrated a lot of the backend stuff, get so
- 1:38:40that he was free to come into the trial at the end.
- 1:38:44Yes. And sing like a canary and
- 1:38:47actually tell the truth. And yeah, did you?
- 1:38:51Yeah. The embezzlement and the murder
- 1:38:53and whatever else they had her going down for.
- 1:38:56So I think that was the most surprising thing.
- 1:38:57Was that instead of being in that moment, just self-serving
- 1:39:02and on the side of the society and all these people, he does
- 1:39:06take her side. But of course, he gets something
- 1:39:08out of it. Of course, had this whole thing
- 1:39:10planned. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:39:12I think my okay, go ahead, go nigga.
- 1:39:14He was not there for the love of that, he was attracted to her,
- 1:39:17he may have been attracted to her, but he was not going to
- 1:39:20sacrifice his whole life's achievements or what he's worked
- 1:39:24for just because there's this girl who has cropped up a You
- 1:39:28know he needs to help her out. He's never do that.
- 1:39:30Yeah he started when up way before when the little sister
- 1:39:34had escaped with the other girl that was when he put this plan
- 1:39:37in motion. So he's just following through.
- 1:39:40Exactly. So you know people but actually
- 1:39:43so there were a lot of things that you want to lament about.
- 1:39:46Like I said, the plot holes, we discussed about a little women
- 1:39:48and I thought that when the finale ended I would see the
- 1:39:51rants coming through, on 23 of these plot holes, everybody was
- 1:39:55it lamenting like the mister Chance At Romance.
- 1:39:58I'm like, what romance did you romance drama?
- 1:40:02Yes, we are on the same page about that.
- 1:40:05If the, if the riding doesn't call for a romance, why you
- 1:40:08going to shoehorn, one in there, don't do that.
- 1:40:11And people like me, people would love to shoehorn a romance into
- 1:40:15this, and they're making their reading too much into some of
- 1:40:19these scenes, where I'm like, where are you seeing romance
- 1:40:21here? I'm just seeing, you know, mild
- 1:40:24attraction and maybe he's entertained by her.
- 1:40:28You know, emotions because she's so, you know, over the top and
- 1:40:32so getting pulled in 20 different directions.
- 1:40:36She doesn't know who to trust and he's very consistent.
- 1:40:39He knows exactly who to trust. He doesn't have any of these
- 1:40:42issues. She has exactly exactly.
- 1:40:44But he's not struggling to do like.
- 1:40:47Who am I gonna trust? Who can I turn to where I'm
- 1:40:49gonna put this money? He knows exactly where he's
- 1:40:51putting the money. He's gonna do, you knows exactly
- 1:40:53what he is doing, and he says at the end, like her one crime is
- 1:40:57basically Being financially literate and it's actually not a
- 1:41:00crime to be financially illiterate, like you're not an
- 1:41:03idiot for for falling into this trap.
- 1:41:06You know, she just got mad at belated, very easily.
- 1:41:10And like I was, I was, I'll always say this, you know,
- 1:41:13people how she's dumb, she's this, she's that hang on this.
- 1:41:16If you go through a history of financial crimes or you watch
- 1:41:20this documentary Dirty Money on Netflix, the smartest or even
- 1:41:25inventing an hour, which is a very bad Series in our
- 1:41:27community. But you understand the, the
- 1:41:29scams that this girl pulled off. Yeah, intelligent bankers,
- 1:41:33lawyers, real estate owners. Big wealthy people supposedly
- 1:41:39obviously are intelligent, right?
- 1:41:40Because they made so much money. All get scammed.
- 1:41:43What wasn't you? Hmm.
- 1:41:45Yeah, Andrew and a lot of, if you look at money laundering
- 1:41:49examples, at a very small scale, lot of desperate.
- 1:41:53People get pulled into the money-laundering Scandal.
- 1:41:56That's how it works. So, What are y'all ranting
- 1:41:59about? Honestly?
- 1:42:00So Tony. I think it was justified that
- 1:42:03fourth important to just got dumped by a web.
- 1:42:05Yeah, she got caught in a web of white-collar crime.
- 1:42:09Exactly. And she doesn't come from that
- 1:42:11class of people. Know why are you mad?
- 1:42:14She got car exactly. What thing?
- 1:42:16I feel sympathies fault. Yeah, you should feel terrible
- 1:42:26but I did. I was Talking to a couple of
- 1:42:28people on Twitter and I said, look I don't get emotionally
- 1:42:30attached to many, unlike a Drama characters and I really don't
- 1:42:34care what people think about what I love, I yes by, I will
- 1:42:38the same in that respect you, but I will defend in Jus if
- 1:42:43anybody starting to point fingers at all, but I love her
- 1:42:45so much. Yeah, she's pretty precious the
- 1:42:49last thing that I'm started talking about it.
- 1:42:51And then I stopped myself so that I could finish the thought
- 1:42:53of we achieve this character was the topic of identity.
- 1:42:57And how towards the end of the show, you finally get these
- 1:43:01sisters accepting, who they are, and their identity, and what
- 1:43:04they want to strive for, in life and throughout the show, you
- 1:43:08know, prior you're talking about how great the cinematography is.
- 1:43:11They did massive clues for this, internal struggle and identity
- 1:43:17crisis, that each sister goes through by showing the lack of
- 1:43:21Reflections. For each of these sisters, and
- 1:43:24in various scenes, you'll see this beautiful.
- 1:43:27Like what Do or mirror or something?
- 1:43:30Where that character, or a couple of other characters are
- 1:43:34shown in the shot and specifically, the sister is not
- 1:43:39in the reflection and I feel like that is so poetic and
- 1:43:44consistent. And we're talking about, we are
- 1:43:46June's character trade though, yields consistent nature, how
- 1:43:51his characterization wasn't changing necessarily throughout
- 1:43:54the length of the show. And in this one scene in episode
- 1:43:573, Three, where they're at the hospital, he's sitting beside in
- 1:44:01Jew and the reflection in the window is only of him and not of
- 1:44:06her very interesting. And what do you watch this?
- 1:44:09And at the end of the show, you see that she's finally in the
- 1:44:12apartment that her Aunt gifted her and she has a reflection
- 1:44:16finally exited. This is such a brilliant
- 1:44:19observation. I didn't realize this, oh, I'm
- 1:44:22gonna be watching the scene. Oh my God, you should visit some
- 1:44:25seeds and see how they Either they downplay their reflection
- 1:44:30or they just don't have it at all.
- 1:44:32And then towards the end, you kind of, especially, within
- 1:44:35juice character because she was the main protagonist.
- 1:44:39I would say of the story. She finally has her moment of
- 1:44:43closure and acceptance and you know, just everything that you
- 1:44:48want to see in a character for her to finally start over.
- 1:44:52In this place in this apartment. And she has, you know, all parts
- 1:44:56of herself. So to speak, she has her
- 1:44:58reflection with her and it's very fulfilling to me to see
- 1:45:02this like full circle. This is such a fantastic
- 1:45:06observation, Jess, because that scene of injury, and the
- 1:45:10apartment is one of the most poignant scenes for me in this
- 1:45:14whole drama because it gives so much closure to enjoy as a
- 1:45:18person. And people were like, oh and
- 1:45:20Jews left alone. She Ask you this, I said what we
- 1:45:23mean. She said no, she said a
- 1:45:25fantastic Place. She's in a great place.
- 1:45:28She's relieved. She's relieved of the burden of
- 1:45:31caring for her sisters. She has no bore issues to think
- 1:45:36about. Like I said, she has.
- 1:45:38She can do whatever she wants with the money and the apartment
- 1:45:42and finally live her life and she's out of poverty.
- 1:45:46This is what she wanted. All her life all along.
- 1:45:49Yeah, those are not tears of sadness.
- 1:45:51Sadness. No, there is nothing to pity
- 1:45:54her. You should be proud.
- 1:45:55The message that has come out of it that she's gonna live for
- 1:45:58herself and I would want every woman to live and put herself
- 1:46:01before anyone else. But that's why that's it's a
- 1:46:05beautiful scene for me and the way, it's also like I said the
- 1:46:07camera work was Exquisite. So I I loved I love that.
- 1:46:12You're like, I love it. Yeah, it was amazing.
- 1:46:16I mean there's lots of quotes throughout that you can call to
- 1:46:20and remember Money is transient. So it makes you anxious, spend
- 1:46:24it on things. They can't take away like the
- 1:46:27the aunt saying, things like that.
- 1:46:28Nothing in life is free people die when they're poor live as a
- 1:46:32maid in The Sheldon's house and live like you to in this house
- 1:46:36like very poignant lines throughout and it's kind of
- 1:46:39endless actually, the amount of I mean, it's that you can pull
- 1:46:42out from this, the one-eyed. Really loved is the real Rich
- 1:46:46risk their Capital importers their lives.
- 1:46:49What, what a statement that was from?
- 1:46:51Um, that's a good one. Yes.
- 1:46:53One of my favorite favorite quotes, 100%.
- 1:46:57Even those the Arts is this, right?
- 1:47:00You? The rich can overcome emotions.
- 1:47:05Capitalism is a psychological game.
- 1:47:07The rich can overcome overcome emotions and induces.
- 1:47:10What is that? And she's like a sense of loss,
- 1:47:12which can work aren't ever. So loss is big hits.
- 1:47:16The poor much more than the rich can draw.
- 1:47:19So I've been some of them are really like Said there was a lot
- 1:47:22of lot of takeaways from the trauma and I understand if
- 1:47:27people hated on it, but I don't think you can miss the messaging
- 1:47:31that yes, at us. You're absolutely right that
- 1:47:35even if you kind of dislike the way it got to the ending and
- 1:47:39some of the plot holes especially if you are a little
- 1:47:43more financially literate than I am.
- 1:47:44But I think that that's why I can't give it a three-and-a-half
- 1:47:48borderline for because it is such a rich text.
- 1:47:52You can glean so much from it. It has incredible messaging and
- 1:47:56it does such a great job of delivering all of these
- 1:47:59messages. Yeah really smart.
- 1:48:03Smart scripts smart. Very smart writing and many
- 1:48:06thought script. I felt very very good.
- 1:48:08Hmm. So okay, I think I've come to
- 1:48:10the end of my notes. Did you have anything that you
- 1:48:12wanted to do the song Joong Ki Cameo as the quite?
- 1:48:16Yeah. When I saw him he was like that
- 1:48:22can't be. Do you like song Joong Ki or
- 1:48:25not? That's the first question.
- 1:48:27I like some junkie. I really love song turkey to.
- 1:48:30I know when I saw him I was like they made him a luxury Sue shoe
- 1:48:35soon. Yeah, I could've been anybody.
- 1:48:39A he could have been a bodyguard.
- 1:48:41He could have been a an assembly person.
- 1:48:43He could have been just ran, do like instead it's a shoe
- 1:48:47salesman. I was like, all right, I guess
- 1:48:51you're the, what's your? He's when they said that song
- 1:48:53Joong Ki is going to do a cameo because all the he was in
- 1:48:55Vincents. Oh yes, director, ye, but they
- 1:48:58were like, he's probably going to be the ex-con.
- 1:49:00Husband, of individual will be whatever a I would have
- 1:49:04preferred that he's right honestly.
- 1:49:08Oh wow. I the people got me on that one.
- 1:49:11That's a really good pull for them to say, I really never
- 1:49:15does. We never do see the ex-husband?
- 1:49:17No, we do. I really wanted to see that and
- 1:49:20then song Joong Ki comes and tell so which of those shoes and
- 1:49:23how they were bought and I was like right okay, all right.
- 1:49:26That all we are going to get to you.
- 1:49:27Do something that's like quite Irrelevant in the long run.
- 1:49:32Exactly. Yeah but the other cameo was
- 1:49:36wuchang say actually I was so excited to see him at the end of
- 1:49:41the first episode and then my heart sunk when he was bumped
- 1:49:46off and I'm like he was denied Oh, creeper such a hit with a
- 1:49:50foot fetish, right? You know, the food fetish and
- 1:49:52that scene in water, Zhang's, apart, move it, Kim goal.
- 1:49:56Oh my God! I had chills down my spine.
- 1:49:58So did I when he was like, so closer, like what was he doing?
- 1:50:01Sniffing her. Some, he's such a brilliant
- 1:50:05actor. He is.
- 1:50:05I just hoping that he will come back in some flash back then.
- 1:50:09They explained how the scheming folder.
- 1:50:11No, he never came back and said he was dead.
- 1:50:13Dead. Dead dead?
- 1:50:16Not dead. He was just because why?
- 1:50:18Was dead. He is dead.
- 1:50:20Good. And then definitely.
- 1:50:23That's yeah. So yeah, those those were the
- 1:50:26two cameos, which were fun to watch.
- 1:50:28Obviously. Absolutely.
- 1:50:29Alright. Anything else that you'd like
- 1:50:32to? Yeah.

- 1:50:45of on short notice and really, you know, Diving deep on this
- 1:50:49drama. I think so many people.
- 1:50:52Deemed me and asked me what my thoughts were if I was watching
- 1:50:55Little Women and I felt horrible at the time saying like oh no
- 1:50:58I'm not. I'm not watching little living
- 1:51:00right now watching something else or I was watching something

- 1:51:26Yeah, hostages. If it doesn't, I'd be really
- 1:51:29surprised. It's a shame.
