- 0:34looks like when you're living with Parkinson's?

- 1:25kind of support, hit the subscribe and you went along
- 1:27here. So today's program is my daily
- 1:30routine, right? My daily routine.
- 1:32And I just want to get right into it this morning because
- 1:35this is in such an important topic.
- 1:37And let's be honest, mornings used to be the hardest part of
- 1:41my day. There was a time early on when
- 1:43I'd lie there in bed thinking, do I really have to get up and
- 1:46do this all over again? I'd reach my pills on the night
- 1:49stand and hoping to remember that I refilled them and hoping
- 1:52to remember that I left the the lid not so tight and hoping I
- 1:56remembered that I had water beside me.
- 1:58You know, some mornings I forget are worse.
- 2:00I'd knock over the bottle and I'd have to chase pills all
- 2:03across the floor. Anybody been there?
- 2:06That is the reality of it. Well, now I've created a system
- 2:10that works and I call it the ready for this.
- 2:12The wake take and wait. The wake take and wake number
- 2:16one. I wake up #2 I take my first
- 2:18dose and then I wait 20 minutes before even trying to get out of
- 2:21bed, and that's 20 minutes. That's sacred time.
- 2:25No checking my phone, no rushing, just breathing.
- 2:30Sometimes I just lay there and think about my day, and
- 2:33sometimes I stare at the ceiling and I just let my body reboot.
- 2:37Now, why is that different? The thing is this is that you
- 2:42have to have, you have to have movement before momentum.
- 2:48What does that mean? Well, once I'm up, it's movement
- 2:51first before coffee, before breakfast, before anything.
- 2:54I do a very short stretching routine.
- 2:57Now, I'm not talking about an Instagram yoga here.
- 2:59I mean slow, purposeful, purposeful movement to tell my
- 3:02brain, Hey, we're going to do this today.
- 3:05Now, of course, this is after that 20 minutes when I just kind
- 3:08of meditate and, and I and I think about things and, and
- 3:11again, thinking about positive things, thinking about good
- 3:13things I'm going to do today. Anyway, there's one stretch, I
- 3:16call it the coat hanger. Coat hanger.
- 3:18It's where I raise my, my arms like I'm trying to hang an
- 3:21invisible coat on my shoulders. It's awkward, it's hilarious,
- 3:25but it works for me. And here's a tip, don't skip the
- 3:28small stuff. Brushing your teeth, washing
- 3:31your face, even if it takes longer, these things signal your
- 3:33brain and your body that this day is starting.
- 3:37That's an easier way to kind of get your body and your brain to
- 3:40go, OK, man, we're into this. It's a day.
- 3:43Here we go. See routine.
- 3:45I always thought routine was constrictive, but now I find
- 3:49that routine is freedom. Even when your body doesn't want
- 3:52to cooperate, it's complete freedom.
- 3:55And then let's talk about breakfast.
- 3:57I don't eat right away. I give my meds about 30 to 45
- 4:00minutes Head start, right? Some days I have eggs, some days
- 4:04toast. And but I always, always, always
- 4:07before any of that. Water first.
- 4:09Water first. It helps the meds kick in better
- 4:12and faster. So funny story, funny story.
- 4:16Early on, I didn't know that protein could interfere with
- 4:19your medication absorption, right?
- 4:20So I'd slam a protein shake and I'd wonder why I felt like I was
- 4:24freezing up. And now, now I know better.
- 4:27Right now, I plan my protein around my bed.
- 4:30It's not the other way around. Like little things that make a
- 4:32massive difference, just little tricks and tips.
- 4:35And, you know, when something's not working, that's that signal
- 4:38to say maybe I should try something different.
- 4:42And yeah, you know, if you've listened to the podcast or
- 4:44watched the podcast for for some time now, and if you haven't,
- 4:47what's the matter? Get get back in the playlist and
- 4:49start from the beginning to catch up to where I am.
- 4:51Because the one thing that I do, the one thing I advocate for and
- 4:55one thing I'm going to push you to do is to try different
- 4:58things. Don't put up with the standard
- 5:00like it's not working. Oh well, no, if something's not
- 5:03working, try something different.
- 5:05So I'm going to encourage you today to do that.
- 5:07And you know, if you're you're here and if you're watching this
- 5:10on YouTube or wherever you are, say hi in the comments.
- 5:15I'd love you to say hi. And if so far so good, I'd love
- 5:18you to like this comment or like this this episode and and share
- 5:21it with somebody who you might need it.
- 5:22You know, the more you like, the more you comment, the more you
- 5:24engage with the episode. All these algorithms, wherever,
- 5:28wherever you're listening or watching this on they go, huh?
- 5:31People are engaging. It must be OK.
- 5:33And then they put it out to more people that specifically are
- 5:36looking for this type of programming.
- 5:38So if we want to reach the masses and help other people, if
- 5:41you wouldn't give us a like or share or a quick comment, say
- 5:44hi. I'd love it.
- 5:45OK, now, now we move into the midday.
- 5:49So midday management, right? So midday is all about energy
- 5:52pacing. For me.
- 5:53This isn't a Sprint. It's like carefully balancing
- 5:55the and it's a careful balancing act between movement and rest.
- 5:59So I used to try to cram all my, what would you call like
- 6:03productive hours into one big push and then I'd crash.
- 6:08Now I build in rest periods. Yeah, I actually build in rest
- 6:14periods. About 15 minutes, you know, on
- 6:16the couch or just sitting, meditating or listening to music
- 6:19even. Just like, just like silently
- 6:21sitting here. But I don't, I do it without a
- 6:23screen, right? So I'm not just taking 15
- 6:26minutes on my phone or taking 15 minutes to scroll around or, or
- 6:29whatever. I mean literally 15 minutes
- 6:31where I can either. I literally kind of what I
- 6:33literally do is there's like a couch back here.
- 6:35I would literally just kind of like put some my Airpods on and
- 6:38I'll listen to some music and I'll just lay there for 15
- 6:41minutes. I'll just like zone out, excuse
- 6:43me. And, and, and those, those 15
- 6:46mirror those 15 minutes, right? It's not about laziness.
- 6:50This is an actual strategy, you know, my work day, my crane of
- 6:54time, it all lives in blocks, right?
- 6:57My my medication on a three hour blocks, right.
- 6:59So I need to reboot that time. I need to take advantage of it.
- 7:03And you know, sometimes and I was going to think about this
- 7:05and I was going to say sometimes I take a nap.
- 7:07I mean, I try and just I'm not a napper and I'm so tired, you
- 7:10know, based on lack of sleep. But even those 50 minutes of
- 7:14just shutting it down, closing my eyes for a minute, just
- 7:16meditating, listening to music, read a book, whatever it is that
- 7:18you find. Maybe you like to walk, go for a
- 7:20walk, but just no, actually, what am I saying?
- 7:22You need to rest. You need to schedule that other
- 7:25stuff in alter. And here's the thing.
- 7:27There's no guilt in this, right? This is smart.
- 7:32Build in that 15 minutes stop time and rest time so that you
- 7:36don't have the crash time and waste a whole bunch more time,
- 7:39right? And here's the other thing too,
- 7:42is, and here we go again, exercise.
- 7:43I know, I know, I know, I know everyone says it, but here's the
- 7:47truth. I don't always feel like
- 7:49exercising. There's days I literally have to
- 7:50bargain with myself, like OK Bryce, just do 5 minutes and
- 7:53then you can quit. But sometimes, you know, what
- 7:56happens is, you know, I, I bargain, I bargain at 5 minutes
- 8:00and then I almost like always just keep going.
- 8:02It's always over 5 minutes. So whether it's just going for a
- 8:05walk, whether it's, you know, boxing and you know, doing a
- 8:07little workout, whether it's doing some yoga, whatever it
- 8:10might be, or even you know what, literally just standing up and
- 8:14stretching and marching in place.
- 8:16Sometimes motion is medicine. It helps with the stiffness,
- 8:19mood, energy and sleep. You name it, it does a lot.
- 8:24So this is crazy. I can't even believe I'm
- 8:26admitting this, but one of my favorite hacks is like dancing
- 8:30now. No audience, thank God, right?
- 8:32No judgement, just me, the music and a body that still wants to
- 8:35fight for its rhythm. It's just something like that
- 8:38thing where you just want to let loose and let go and and just
- 8:41take that 50 minutes and just kind of move.
- 8:43And it's really empowering. And I'm telling you, it'll make
- 8:46Yeah, make your time. So.
- 8:47So what did I just say? I live my life in times block
- 8:50times, right? So I take my meds every three
- 8:52hours. So I live in a three hour block.
- 8:54Well, that means that I'm scheduling 15 minutes of rest
- 8:57and 1515 minutes of rest an hour or sorry in that block and 15
- 9:03minutes of exercise. So just put it in and I schedule
- 9:06it. I mean, it's crazy, but I do, I
- 9:07journal it and schedule it and then we move on to the evening.
- 9:11So the evenings are a totally different beast, right?
- 9:13That's when fatigue usually hits me the hardest.
- 9:16And I'm sure most people, you know, one of the, there's some
- 9:19different little tricks you can do, like dim the lights early,
- 9:21right? Take my last or not my last
- 9:23level, but take that, that, that dose around dinnertime, right?
- 9:26Have dinner and then I typically and, and purposely start slowing
- 9:32my brain down, OK, not just my body.
- 9:36So right after dinner, that's when my brain I'm just starting
- 9:38to slow it down. And that means like no heavy
- 9:42decision making after 8:00 PM. That's a tough one for me
- 9:44because you know, that's when you know, it may be time and
- 9:46time to catch up with my spouse or having time to, you know,
- 9:49whatever. And I got to be, I got to know
- 9:52this, that that's not the time for me to make decisions
- 9:55mornings, you know, that mid morning time is my decision
- 9:58making time. So no heavy decisions after 8
- 10:01for me, right? I'll journal, I'll listen to
- 10:04that calming music again. Sometimes I'll even just sit in
- 10:06silence with my wife. Like we'll literally kind of
- 10:09just prop the bed, one of those beds that move up and and so we
- 10:12kind of like prop the bed up and just we just chill, we hang out,
- 10:15you know, trying to take my face off the screen, not scrolling.
- 10:19It's sacred time. And then as I'm getting ready
- 10:24for bed and, and again, I've told you this before, one of my
- 10:26personal favorites and me and my wife, kudos on this again, but
- 10:29it's that magnesium spray, that magnesium spray link in the
- 10:32description if you want try it. But it's funny, it's a few
- 10:35people have commented it on other videos where they've tried
- 10:37it and they're like, it's working, right?
- 10:39It's working for me. It helps me sleep.
- 10:42And you know what, it could be a placebo, it could be just
- 10:44totally in my mind, but I don't care.
- 10:47It's real to me. And either way it works.
- 10:49It completely works for me. So that's that evening strategy
- 10:52evening is that calm down time. It's coming down, coming down,
- 10:55coming down because again, that leads to night time.
- 10:59So last thing, night time meds, right?
- 11:03I am now taking a controlled release levodopa before bed.
- 11:09You know, it doesn't stop all my symptoms through the night, but
- 11:12it smooths them out. It seems to smooth them out had
- 11:15enough to sleep. So I would suggest that if
- 11:18you're is having issues and sleep, especially with like, you
- 11:21know, restless leg syndrome where you're moving around or
- 11:23things are happening and if you wake up in the morning, like I
- 11:26do like you feel like you're, you know, 200 years old and it's
- 11:30crazy to get going. I'm trying it.
- 11:32I just started not that long ago, maybe three months ago and
- 11:35so far so good. So maybe talk to your doctor.
- 11:37I'd encourage you to talk to your doctor and maybe that's an
- 11:39option that might work for you. Now, a couple of things.
- 11:43I keep water by my bed, right? And I set reminders right?
- 11:46And I even I even have that. I've heard that's not me, but
- 11:51I've heard some people even have glow in the dark pill caps.
- 11:54You know, I used to wake up panicking, thinking that I
- 11:57forgot something. And now I just trust that
- 12:00routine and I sleep better because of it.
- 12:02So literally I'd be going to bed and I'd be worrying about, OK,
- 12:05did you know I got to make sure that my caps off, my water's
- 12:09ready. This this is ready.
- 12:10That's ready. Everything's ready and I'd
- 12:12stress and worry so much about everything being ready for the
- 12:15morning that I'd have trouble sleeping.
- 12:18And so I've learned to trust myself, right?
- 12:22Learned to just do this routine. And luckily for me, and I'm
- 12:25hoping you are in the same boat, but I have a pretty amazing care
- 12:30partner with me who takes care of a lot of that stuff for me
- 12:33and making sure that everything's laid out.
- 12:35But it's something even when I travel and I'm on my own, I got
- 12:37to make sure in my hotel room that I have the water ready with
- 12:40a maybe a water bottle with a cap half loose because I can't
- 12:43really open it in the morning. I have to, you know, make sure
- 12:46my pills are laid out for me so I don't have to go struggling
- 12:48with pill bottles. And, and I know there's other
- 12:50hacks for that in opening things, but for me, it's my
- 12:53motor skills are so infinite are so fine in infinite.
- 12:56Is that the right word? They're so fine in the morning
- 12:59that I literally have to be able to slide my pills into my palm
- 13:01on my head because I can't pick them.
- 13:04I can't pick them up. So anyway, that's my day.
- 13:11That's how it works. It's not perfect and it's not
- 13:13always pretty, but it's mine. And I've learned that owning
- 13:16your routine, no matter how simple or strange it can be, can
- 13:19make this journey a little less overwhelming.
- 13:22And what about you? What's something that's helped
- 13:24you and your routine? You know, dropping the comments.
- 13:27I read every comment and I respond to everyone.
- 13:30And if you want to go deeper and I'm just going to, I know I
- 13:32don't want to make it sound like I'm just trying to sell things
- 13:35all the time because this is, I just believe in this so much.
- 13:37And that's why I want to offer it to you.
- 13:39And it's, if you want to go deeper with me, right?
- 13:41And others who really get it, consider joining the inner
- 13:44circle, right? It's going to do live zoom
- 13:46calls. We share tips, tricks, tips and
- 13:48tricks and, and we support each other.
- 13:50It's, there's no judgement and there's no, you know,
- 13:53expectation. It's just if you want to go a
- 13:56little bit deeper, if you want to live life and sort of do
- 13:58life, you want to do it with me, join my inner circle.
- 14:01There's a link in the, I think in the first comment and also in
- 14:04the description. But I want to thank you.

- 14:36to hear it. Want to go deeper?
