- 0:00Speaker 1: Now the Guardian Angel of talk radio is here. Curtis
- 0:05Speaker 1: Sleewah guest host the Mark Simone Show on sevent ten.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Woor oh yeah, let's do it day two.
- 0:26Speaker 1: As I sit in for Mark Simon, I mean, this
- 0:30Speaker 1: is the guy who's smooth. Remember that song by Shah
- 0:34Speaker 1: Day nineteen eighty four. I remember hearing it in London
- 0:38Speaker 1: first time when I organized the Guardian Angels, their smooth operator.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Nobody's smoother in this business, this thing of ours, this
- 0:48Speaker 1: is the business we have chosen talk radio. Nobody's done
- 0:53Speaker 1: it longer than Mark Simone locally. But I'm sort of
- 0:57Speaker 1: the tagalong thirty five years and to be thirty and
- 1:01Speaker 1: now at the radio station where it all started for me,
- 1:05Speaker 1: not as a host but as a guest. When I
- 1:09Speaker 1: got the bug TV bug was rom Perum. That was
- 1:13Speaker 1: before WOR Radio seven ten, when I was interviewed by
- 1:18Speaker 1: Arlen Francis who had the midday show, when I was
- 1:22Speaker 1: the newspaper Boy of the Year, havn't gotten an award
- 1:26Speaker 1: from Richard Nixon, And I remember the studios they have
- 1:30Speaker 1: fourteen forty Broadway. I think I'm not trying to remember
- 1:35Speaker 1: if rom Perum was actually on Channel nine. I think
- 1:38Speaker 1: it was at the TV studios in Midtown Manhattan, not
- 1:44Speaker 1: far from where the ball is going to drop. Welcoming
- 1:48Speaker 1: in the new year and the change over from the
- 1:51Speaker 1: missing in action mayor the swaggerman with no Plan Eric Adams,
- 1:56Speaker 1: who got windyned in pocket lined over the years. Thank god,
- 2:00Speaker 1: he'll be gone. Has he gotten back yet? Is he
- 2:02Speaker 1: from this perpetual vacation, his travels around the world at
- 2:06Speaker 1: taxpayer's expension, sort of like Matt Lauer, remember before he
- 2:10Speaker 1: got the boot at NBC. Where's Matt Lawa today? Where's
- 2:14Speaker 1: Eric Adams today? On our dime? We're paying for all that.
- 2:18Speaker 1: We'll get into all of that. And then also uh
- 2:22Speaker 1: oh boy. At the dysfunctional home of WABC, the former
- 2:27Speaker 1: house of always broadcasting critics Sliwa, now always bashing Curtis Sliwa,
- 2:33Speaker 1: one of their hosts just he lost it yesterday. Greg Kelly,
- 2:39Speaker 1: Oh my god, he just went on and on. People
- 2:41Speaker 1: were telling me on the streets of Coney Island, listen
- 2:44Speaker 1: to him. This guy, he's having an episode. He certainly was.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Wow And in fact, he used words that I heard
- 2:57Speaker 1: that hadn't been said to me on the radio since
- 3:02Speaker 1: back in nineteen ninety two, I had on as a
- 3:08Speaker 1: guest of Angels in the Morning, where I was hosting
- 3:10Speaker 1: with my wife at that time, Lisa and al Lisa
- 3:13Speaker 1: Evers at Channel five, guy named Louis Kasman who was
- 3:18Speaker 1: like the adopted son of John Gottisenia, and he was
- 3:22Speaker 1: coming on to defend John gottisin You have been found
- 3:25Speaker 1: guilty for the final time triple life without parole because
- 3:30Speaker 1: of the rat Sami de Bolgravano and the memory's tapes
- 3:34Speaker 1: of conversations they had had over the Ravennight Social club
- 3:38Speaker 1: in Italy where he was ordering the executions of his
- 3:44Speaker 1: fellow Gambino crime family members. And Louis Kasman was on
- 3:50Speaker 1: the air and he was defending him, and it was
- 3:53Speaker 1: a very heated discussion, and I remember what Louis Kasmin said.
- 3:58Speaker 1: He said, Curtis, you better keep your mouth shut if
- 4:04Speaker 1: you know what's good for you. And soon after, remember
- 4:08Speaker 1: I got shot five times with the hollow point bullets
- 4:10Speaker 1: in the back of that yellow cab on my way
- 4:13Speaker 1: to WABC. We'll get into that later on. Oh you
- 4:15Speaker 1: know what I missaid, Well, yesterday the Moe Green there
- 4:21Speaker 1: at WABC. Yeah, Greg Kelly's like Mo Green from The Godfather,
- 4:26Speaker 1: you know, tough guy, tough guy, except these Irish not Jewish.
- 4:31Speaker 1: He said exactly the same thing he announces on the microphone,
- 4:36Speaker 1: and I heard it for myself. Curtis, keep your mouth shut.
- 4:41Speaker 1: If you know what's good for you. What do you
- 4:45Speaker 1: think you mean by that? Is that that foe for
- 4:49Speaker 1: gazy rage because he has anger management issues. Well, look,
- 4:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna get into it. We'll do the deep dive.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Dysfunctional former family at WABC tries to still haunt me
- 5:05Speaker 1: to this day even though I'm at the station. You
- 5:10Speaker 1: should all be listening to now War seven ten, the
- 5:12Speaker 1: absolute best with Larry Mente in the morning and then
- 5:16Speaker 1: obviously Mark Simon, my very dear friend in the afternoons.
- 5:20Speaker 1: For many many years, Sean Hannity, the rock ribbed all
- 5:23Speaker 1: American conservative voice of reason from Franklin Square along Island
- 5:28Speaker 1: doesn't get any better. And the whole panoply of shows
- 5:33Speaker 1: that you get here as opposed to where you may
- 5:36Speaker 1: have been. But let's talk about what occurred yesterday. And
- 5:43Speaker 1: I want to give credit to Natalie the wr team
- 5:46Speaker 1: here producer in the morning, who also does the news
- 5:49Speaker 1: from time to time, and she spoke to everybody here
- 5:54Speaker 1: at seven ten yesterday morning before my debut and talked
- 5:58Speaker 1: about how I am The Gardian Angels would be out
- 6:03Speaker 1: at Coney Island Stillwell Avenue to commemorate, memorialize the death
- 6:10Speaker 1: of the Debbie Kowom, also known as Dobrina Kowam from
- 6:15Speaker 1: Little Falls, New Jersey. You say, who's that? Well, a
- 6:20Speaker 1: year ago the whole world knew, at least for the
- 6:24Speaker 1: first nine days when she could not be identified because
- 6:27Speaker 1: she was burnt so badly, turned into a human torch
- 6:34Speaker 1: by an enemy of society. It came to this city
- 6:40Speaker 1: with the royal red carpet rolled out for him by
- 6:43Speaker 1: Joe Biden, biorchist Harris and yeah, oh yeah, at that
- 6:47Speaker 1: time the Biden of Brooklyn, Eric Adams, So we'll be
- 6:49Speaker 1: talking about him also later on today the house smiuse
- 6:53Speaker 1: said he was for twenty two years as a cop
- 6:55Speaker 1: in the NYPD. And it seems like in one year's time,
- 7:04Speaker 1: the memory of the most heinous, horrific crime in the
- 7:09Speaker 1: New York City subway system, in fact, in New York
- 7:13Speaker 1: City's history, involving one victim, just wiped from the memory cells.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Credit though to Natalie for bringing that to the surface
- 7:27Speaker 1: of what we would do. I'll get into that momentarily.
- 7:30Speaker 1: And also to the New York Posts Catherine don Levy,
- 7:36Speaker 1: a reporter who had covered this horror a year ago.
- 7:40Speaker 1: They're now doing a video broadcast to sort of remind people,
- 7:44Speaker 1: because it just seems the rest of the media and
- 7:47Speaker 1: most people from them, it's out of sight, out of mind.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Part of that is due to what the City of
- 7:57Speaker 1: New York does not want you to know about. All
- 7:59Speaker 1: the crime in the subway. Look at it, all the
- 8:01Speaker 1: series of stabbings that have occurred of late, all the
- 8:05Speaker 1: homeless and emotionally disturbed. They're still living in the system.
- 8:09Speaker 1: I know. Coming here this morning, I ran into so
- 8:12Speaker 1: many of them, some who I know personally. So we
- 8:17Speaker 1: eulogized Debrina Kwam on the anniversary that horrible death. We
- 8:25Speaker 1: had the reath out. We had pictures people were passing
- 8:29Speaker 1: by a very crowded station where the F train D
- 8:31Speaker 1: train merges with the N and Q. Nobody knew, and
- 8:37Speaker 1: we said to say her name. Nobody knew. And there
- 8:43Speaker 1: are so many thousands of homeless and emotionally disturbed out there.
- 8:46Speaker 1: They won't be home for Christmas. Their home is an
- 8:51Speaker 1: unsafe shelter, a subway car, a subway station, a platform,
- 8:57Speaker 1: a park, or the streets, and they all have a
- 9:02Speaker 1: unique story. His DeBie Kwalms the age of fifty seven,
- 9:08Speaker 1: she had become homeless, destitute, and clearly was emotionally disturbed
- 9:13Speaker 1: when she was set on fire on that f train
- 9:16Speaker 1: on the morning of December twenty second of last year,
- 9:19Speaker 1: at seven thirty. Where was she? From? Little Falls, New Jersey.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Grew up in a small white house. A father work
- 9:28Speaker 1: assembly line at the GM factory in Lynden, no longer operational,
- 9:34Speaker 1: her mother at a bakery store. She had her sister
- 9:36Speaker 1: and brother. An all American upbringing. She was a cheerleader,
- 9:39Speaker 1: mispopularity at Passaic Valley Regional High School, worked in Perkins,
- 9:45Speaker 1: a pancake house as a hostess, got so many of
- 9:48Speaker 1: her friend's jobs there. She was always the life of
- 9:53Speaker 1: the party and as so many of her former schoolmates said,
- 9:58Speaker 1: she was a bright light. Then unfortunately got dimmed like
- 10:03Speaker 1: so many out there. She went on to Montclair State College,
- 10:08Speaker 1: which is right there in Little Falls, got a job
- 10:11Speaker 1: at Sharp Electric and Malwa and Mirk the pharmaceutical company,
- 10:17Speaker 1: and from time to time, we'd go out with her
- 10:19Speaker 1: girlfriends to Vegas of the Caribbean and have a nice,
- 10:23Speaker 1: nice holiday like some of you are having now for
- 10:27Speaker 1: Christmas and New Years. And she meets a guy, and
- 10:32Speaker 1: you know what happened. Something cracked. She began to fall
- 10:40Speaker 1: into an abyss, last known to be working in Atlantic City.
- 10:46Speaker 1: And then, if you follow the timeline, getting arrested from
- 10:50Speaker 1: time to time all along the Jersey Shore for drunken
- 10:54Speaker 1: and disorderly conduct. When no lifelines, she was falling into
- 11:02Speaker 1: Dante's inferno. And then she went back home. She was
- 11:08Speaker 1: searching for her mother. She pounded on that door. A
- 11:14Speaker 1: woman answered the door. She said, I want my mommy.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I want my mommy. I want my mommy. And the
- 11:21Speaker 1: woman who had just recently bought the house from Dobrina's
- 11:25Speaker 1: mother and father, said, I don't know where they are.
- 11:28Speaker 1: I have a realtor's card. Maybe he can track them down.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I want my mommy. She's crying, she's disheveled. The woman
- 11:36Speaker 1: goes and finds the card. She returns to the door
- 11:39Speaker 1: and the next thing she knows to bring and kowamas
- 11:41Speaker 1: running down the block screaming, mommy, mommy, crying. She came
- 11:48Speaker 1: home from Christmas, at least she thought. She soon ended
- 11:55Speaker 1: up over a Grand Central terminal. Almost outreach unit brought
- 12:01Speaker 1: her up to a woman's shelter in the South Bronx.
- 12:04Speaker 1: How crazy is that this woman was from Little Falls,
- 12:07Speaker 1: New Jersey. Soon they took everything from her. She fled.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Where to homeless people go when they flee in the winter,
- 12:17Speaker 1: they go into the subway, so that becomes their home.
- 12:19Speaker 1: And it was for many days until this Monthster found
- 12:25Speaker 1: her set her on fire. Was there a commemoration, a
- 12:31Speaker 1: memorialization yesterday at city Hall? No any other fifty one
- 12:35Speaker 1: city council members, No Jessica Tish the police commissioner, no
- 12:41Speaker 1: one police president, no MTA headquarters.
- 12:44Speaker 2: No.
- 12:44Speaker 1: They want that image wiped from our mindsets. It'll never
- 12:52Speaker 1: be white from my mindset. Imagine for so many of you,
- 12:59Speaker 1: how many of your cheer and her grandchildren are coming
- 13:01Speaker 1: home with your parents or grandparents for Christmas and New Years,
- 13:07Speaker 1: and they want to see their mommy. Those are like
- 13:11Speaker 1: her last words that we know of mommy. Where's my mommy?
- 13:20Speaker 1: And yesterday Natalie brought this to your attention here wor
- 13:27Speaker 1: the New York Posts. Catherine don leaving and the rest
- 13:33Speaker 1: of the world wanted to remain oblivious. Not I in
- 13:37Speaker 1: the Guardian angels, No, we want a memorial placed at
- 13:41Speaker 1: that very spot on the f train station to represent
- 13:46Speaker 1: the many thousands of homeless and emotionally disturbed, some of
- 13:50Speaker 1: them buried in Pottersfield you know where that is. A
- 13:53Speaker 1: million bodies are buried there, nameless, faceless individuals. They all
- 13:59Speaker 1: had stories and at least I was able to tell
- 14:04Speaker 1: Debbie Kwalms say her name. No, they won't, but we will.
- 14:14Speaker 1: We will remember. We should always remember. Our number is
- 14:21Speaker 1: eight hundred three two one zero seven ten. That's eight
- 14:25Speaker 1: hundred three two one zero seven ten on this your
- 14:29Speaker 1: place to be seven ten wor
