- 0:07Speaker 1: This podcast. Welcome to meet Either Trivia, the only game
- 0:12Speaker 1: show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer new Art,
- 0:16Speaker 1: and today we're joined by Steve Rannella, Rody Henderson, Janice
- 0:20Speaker 1: Poutelis Krin Schneider, Chris Carlson, Ken Carlson, and Carmen van Bianchi.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Chris and Ken, this is your first time on the show.
- 0:28Speaker 1: So how do you feel about playing trivia? Very excitedly
- 0:35Speaker 1: letting yourself You're scared or you're excited? Okay, how do
- 0:39Speaker 1: you think you'll do on this? I've never seen it done,
- 0:42Speaker 1: so I don't know. Kind of question whipping out here?
- 0:44Speaker 1: You all right, we'll Carmen Sam goes for you. How
- 0:47Speaker 1: do you think you're gonna do on meat Eater Trivia?
- 0:49Speaker 1: I have no idea. I've played along a couple of times.
- 0:52Speaker 1: How do you normally do well? It goes. It depends
- 0:55Speaker 1: on the type of questions that I'm going. I'm not
- 0:57Speaker 1: I'm not real strong on any sort of history stuff,
- 1:01Speaker 1: but if you if there's some bio ones, then I
- 1:03Speaker 1: can do. You played along from home? Yes and kept score? Yeah.
- 1:09Speaker 1: If you're not familiar, this is a ten round quiz
- 1:12Speaker 1: show with questions from meat eaters four verticals which are hunting, fishing, conservation,
- 1:17Speaker 1: and cooking, and there is a prize. Meat eater will
- 1:20Speaker 1: donate five dollars to the conservation organization of the winners
- 1:24Speaker 1: choosing and the stat of the week. This week we're
- 1:27Speaker 1: updating the meat Eater trivia donation tracker. We just surpassed
- 1:31Speaker 1: twenty two tho dollars and with every penny going towards conservation.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Oh you know what if I win today, I'm donating
- 1:39Speaker 1: the Karmen's anybody that doesn't donate to Karma's nonprofit. Wow, Karmen,
- 1:50Speaker 1: can you tell us about what that nonprofit is? Yeah,
- 1:53Speaker 1: So it's Home Range Wildlife Research and we sort of
- 1:56Speaker 1: have three pillars where we're doing research right now. It's
- 2:00Speaker 1: some wildfire research. We have UM field skills training courses
- 2:05Speaker 1: for young bios that want to get some experience, maybe
- 2:08Speaker 1: learn how to snowmobile before they're having to do it
- 2:11Speaker 1: on the fly on the job. Uh. And then we've
- 2:13Speaker 1: got a community science component as well or doing some
- 2:16Speaker 1: some bear work um and and utilizing our our local
- 2:19Speaker 1: community to help us figure out what's going on with
- 2:22Speaker 1: bears in our trash. That's great. Now the show has
- 2:26Speaker 1: spread that twenty two dollars across twenty six different nonprofits,
- 2:30Speaker 1: with the most common recipients being TRCP, the National Wild
- 2:34Speaker 1: Turkey Federation, Howell dot Org, and the Meat Eator Land
- 2:38Speaker 1: Access Initiative. At this pace, by the end of the
- 2:42Speaker 1: show will have given over fifty dollars to conservation. Now
- 2:46Speaker 1: we have some housekeeping to get to. In a previous
- 2:48Speaker 1: game of trivia, we had a question about what word
- 2:51Speaker 1: describes a man made stack of rocks that's used to
- 2:54Speaker 1: mark trails or graves. The correct answer was cairn, but
- 2:58Speaker 1: several listeners wrote in to ask if a knook shook
- 3:02Speaker 1: would also work. The knook shook, which is a word
- 3:04Speaker 1: I've never heard of, is defined as a figure made
- 3:07Speaker 1: of piled stones or boulders constructed to communicate with humans
- 3:12Speaker 1: in the Arctic. Basically, it's the Inuit version of a cairn.
- 3:16Speaker 1: So I count that as a correct answer. Uh yeah, okay,
- 3:22Speaker 1: do you Steves wondering last time? Are you the kind
- 3:26Speaker 1: of person that when you're walking along the stream and
- 3:28Speaker 1: you see one of those things that someone will you
- 3:29Speaker 1: kick it over on a stream? Yeah? Yeah, okay, Mark
- 3:33Speaker 1: in the fishing hole thing, I don't when it's when
- 3:38Speaker 1: you're entering an alpine area and you're trying and they're
- 3:42Speaker 1: trying to prevent people from dispersing all across. Uh, you know,
- 3:46Speaker 1: alpine tundra, and it's meant to be like here's the trail,
- 3:49Speaker 1: let's let's keep traffic confined. I'm all for that, but
- 3:52Speaker 1: just people piling up rocks recreational? Are you the kind
- 3:56Speaker 1: of person that where you see where some kids made
- 3:57Speaker 1: the sand castle that you stomp on it. No, not
- 4:00Speaker 1: kids stuff, but I don't like those ones you see
- 4:02Speaker 1: along creeks. My wife was this pointed when we talked
- 4:06Speaker 1: about Karns that I didn't tell the story. We were
- 4:07Speaker 1: in Canyon Lands National Park and it was a spot
- 4:10Speaker 1: in the hike where it's pretty interpretive. There were hundreds
- 4:13Speaker 1: of cairns around, and I started kicking them over because
- 4:17Speaker 1: I was annoying that folks were just building them and
- 4:19Speaker 1: you're not supposed to. She said. At one point I
- 4:21Speaker 1: even said take that, hippies, when I kicked him over. Well,
- 4:27Speaker 1: we got back to the trailhead and there was a
- 4:29Speaker 1: sign that said the cairns mark the trail. Uh, So
- 4:32Speaker 1: I was actually I still like I I was the
- 4:36Speaker 1: jerk um. Those were meant to be there. You know what, man,
- 4:39Speaker 1: I got you a present that you're not gonna believe.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I wasn't gonna tell you like I was gonna tell you.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Then I thought, well, I'll just tell him when I
- 4:46Speaker 1: give it to him. But I'm so excited. This is
- 4:48Speaker 1: like when I proposed my wife. I didn't I was
- 4:50Speaker 1: gonna make a plan. But since I got the ring
- 4:53Speaker 1: out of set it because okay, you know, I was
- 4:55Speaker 1: gonna be like a fiesta theme. I don't know, but
- 4:59Speaker 1: what was the land for your life? I hadn't really
- 5:01Speaker 1: thought it through. As soon as I got to bring
- 5:02Speaker 1: out his asser. Okay, I thought, I won't take the
- 5:04Speaker 1: ring home and hide it and I'll think of something.
- 5:06Speaker 1: But I got we got a little drunk at night,
- 5:08Speaker 1: and I just did it. But I got you held
- 5:12Speaker 1: at present I found you. I'm gonna bring it to
- 5:15Speaker 1: you and give it to you. Pretty good hunk, like
- 5:19Speaker 1: as big around, like the size of your hand without
- 5:23Speaker 1: what if you cut your fingers off wide maybe four
- 5:27Speaker 1: or five inches tall. Jet black petrified wood. Oh, it's
- 5:33Speaker 1: great from where Mexico jet black beautiful burned. Yeah, I believe.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I believe that what you'll be holding when you hold it.
- 5:43Speaker 1: This is our interpretation of No, I think that it
- 5:46Speaker 1: was I think that it was a burnt I think
- 5:48Speaker 1: of a tree burnt and got petrified. It's great, that's
- 5:54Speaker 1: like something christ and give up. Yeah, I don't think
- 5:56Speaker 1: it's cold. Man, you can't break. It's too hard for that, right. No,
- 6:00Speaker 1: it's it's like it's not But I thought, I hope
- 6:02Speaker 1: I'm not giving him a hunk cole legit on a
- 6:08Speaker 1: show to him. He can thrown a little rock tumblers,
- 6:11Speaker 1: probably from when the big meteor hitting made the dinostars strike. Yeah,
- 6:17Speaker 1: the Southwest has very pretty petrified wood. Uh. They have
- 6:20Speaker 1: a lot of different colors. There's some that are opalized.
- 6:23Speaker 1: You have the straight black like your tongue looking forward
- 6:26Speaker 1: to it. You're in for a real treat when I
- 6:27Speaker 1: give this to you. We also had Jake Diebel among others,
- 6:31Speaker 1: right in with feedback about Steve's humunculus. The issue with
- 6:35Speaker 1: Steve's use that the humunculous has nothing to do with memory,
- 6:39Speaker 1: but rather your motor or sensory cortex. Humunculous, which is
- 6:43Speaker 1: Latin for little person, is a term referring to a
- 6:46Speaker 1: distorted human figure that represents how much area of the
- 6:50Speaker 1: cerebral cortex is devoted to a particular body location. For example,
- 6:55Speaker 1: the cortical humunculous has large lips but a tiny back
- 7:00Speaker 1: because your lips are much more sensitive to touch than
- 7:03Speaker 1: your back. Therefore, there is a larger portion of your
- 7:06Speaker 1: brain devoted to the stimulus coming from your lips. Then
- 7:09Speaker 1: you're back. This guy doesn't know my home unto us.
- 7:12Speaker 1: You know, I've I've heard this from other folks, but
- 7:14Speaker 1: I didn't want to correct you because I like the
- 7:16Speaker 1: youth so much. Your Your version is much cooler than
- 7:19Speaker 1: I mean. You just like the word means little person.
- 7:23Speaker 1: But there used to be a belief and I still
- 7:25Speaker 1: believe that there is a little person that lives in you. Okay,
- 7:28Speaker 1: I'll try to track this down. Has his own information.
- 7:31Speaker 1: That's good. That's far better than uh the Latin one.
- 7:35Speaker 1: The Shelby index for this round of trivia is a
- 7:38Speaker 1: three point five, so our winner should get seven correct answers,
- 7:41Speaker 1: and with that we're onto the game of trivia. Play
- 7:44Speaker 1: the drop, Phil, Look, I need to know what I
- 7:48Speaker 1: stand to win everything. I say, just tend to win everything, suckers.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Question one the topic is cooking, and this is multiple choice.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Which of these phrases gets googled the most in America?
- 8:13Speaker 1: Is it salmon recipe, catfish recipe, trout recipe, or crab recipe?
- 8:21Speaker 1: Which of these phrases gets googled the most in America?
- 8:25Speaker 1: Is it salmon recipe, catfish recipe, trout recipe, or crab recipe?
- 8:32Speaker 1: Some quick answers for most of the room, Steve, with
- 8:35Speaker 1: no answer quite yet. Your four choices salmon, catfish, trout
- 8:39Speaker 1: or crab. Steve, what do you think your chances are
- 8:43Speaker 1: on this one? By you were quick to draw. I'm
- 8:52Speaker 1: I think I do? I know it's one of two.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 8:59Speaker 1: We have Steve saying salmon, Karin saying salmon, Chris sang catfish,
- 9:03Speaker 1: Brody saying salmon, Ken saying salmon, Janice saying salmon, and
- 9:08Speaker 1: Carmen saying catfish. The correct answer is salmon. Perfect game.
- 9:13Speaker 1: So far, the room did pretty well. Perfect game. The
- 9:16Speaker 1: phrases catfish recipe, trout recipe, and crab recipe all get
- 9:21Speaker 1: googled about one hundred thousand times each month. The phrase
- 9:24Speaker 1: salmon recipe gets googled about one million times each month.
- 9:28Speaker 1: It's the most googled recipe in states like Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland,
- 9:32Speaker 1: and New Jersey. But instead of going to Google, those
- 9:35Speaker 1: folks should go to the meat eater dot com and
- 9:37Speaker 1: check out Danielle Pruitt's recipe called the best Grilled Salmon.
- 9:41Speaker 1: He's a company man, a company man that we recently
- 9:46Speaker 1: had a text exchange and I told Steve, I'm a
- 9:48Speaker 1: company man. I mean, you find new ways to do
- 9:50Speaker 1: it to the topic is hunting. What country has the
- 9:58Speaker 1: world record for a non typical mule? Dear? What country
- 10:05Speaker 1: has the world record for a non typical that? This
- 10:13Speaker 1: is so weird? I know the answer? What about your homunculous? No?
- 10:22Speaker 1: My kid, Oh, he had to pick a research topic
- 10:28Speaker 1: at school and we had to do look up a
- 10:30Speaker 1: couple of things. His research topic was mulder Okay, so
- 10:34Speaker 1: I had he had like these little questions and I
- 10:37Speaker 1: had to look one up. I happened to look this up.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I think you could have done this one in multiple
- 10:44Speaker 1: choice and it would have been just as fun answer,
- 10:47Speaker 1: if not even better. What country has the world record
- 10:51Speaker 1: for a non typical mule deer? Does everybody have an answer,
- 10:55Speaker 1: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Steve saying Canada,
- 10:59Speaker 1: saying in New Zealand, Brod He's saying us, Ken saying Canada,
- 11:06Speaker 1: Janice saying Canada, and Carmen saying Canada. Look I crossed
- 11:11Speaker 1: it out. The correct answer is Canada. He had no idea.
- 11:20Speaker 1: He caught a track, was following it, and then ran
- 11:24Speaker 1: into a moose track and thought, man, I should probably
- 11:28Speaker 1: follow that moose track. Then you got to think it.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I don't have that long and moose tend to cover
- 11:33Speaker 1: ground pretty quick. I'm just gonna stay with my deer tracks.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I'm afraid I'll never catch up with the moose. That's great.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Caught up with it saw and thought, wow, it looks
- 11:41Speaker 1: like a big buck and shot it. Your son's gona
- 11:44Speaker 1: on this book report. What's your son's gonna be okay
- 11:48Speaker 1: on this report? Huh yeah. I'll talk to you off
- 11:53Speaker 1: the air about the two biggest mule deer in the
- 11:57Speaker 1: world have been killed in Canada. One was a three
- 12:00Speaker 1: hundred fifty inch buck killed in nineteen six and Alberta.
- 12:04Speaker 1: The other was a three hundred thirty nine inch buck
- 12:06Speaker 1: killed in British Columbia in eighteen ninety the biggest mule
- 12:10Speaker 1: deer ever killed in America was three hundred thirty inches,
- 12:13Speaker 1: which is third in the world. The biggest mule deer
- 12:16Speaker 1: ever killed in Mexico was two hundred fifty two inches,
- 12:19Speaker 1: which is three hundred fifty four in the world. That's
- 12:22Speaker 1: what that's that's that's net. No, what's it called gross?
- 12:29Speaker 1: What's the one that comes after numbers? Well, for nontypicals
- 12:34Speaker 1: be getting your gross number. It's a bigger one than
- 12:38Speaker 1: that hasn't come out of Mexico. She look at those
- 12:39Speaker 1: ones jay Scots been getting down there. They're bigger than that.
- 12:42Speaker 1: They probably don't have the Wisconsin Wiscotsin Culture of Entering
- 12:47Speaker 1: in the Boone and Crockett Record Book, Question three, the
- 12:50Speaker 1: topic is wildlife. This is our listener question of the Week,
- 12:53Speaker 1: which was won by Thomas Garcia for sending this great question.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Thomas is going to get a signed book by Stephen Rennell.
- 13:00Speaker 1: If you want a chance to win our listener Question
- 13:02Speaker 1: of the Week, then send it to Trivia at the
- 13:03Speaker 1: Meat Eater dot com. What animal causes the most power
- 13:08Speaker 1: outages in the United States? This is how specific I
- 13:13Speaker 1: expect you to be if you thought the answer was
- 13:15Speaker 1: white tailed deer, which it's not. You could just write, dear,
- 13:19Speaker 1: what animal causes the most power outages in the United States.
- 13:24Speaker 1: A lot of quick answers in the room. Steve still thinking, Yanni,
- 13:30Speaker 1: you got this one. I don't know if if my
- 13:37Speaker 1: right slow I didn't notice, I might be too vague,
- 13:44Speaker 1: because well, can you give me that a little bit
- 13:48Speaker 1: again about specificities. You think the answer is white tailed deer,
- 13:50Speaker 1: you can just write, dear, it's as specific is you
- 13:54Speaker 1: need to be what animal causes most power outages in
- 14:00Speaker 1: the United States? Does everybody have an answer? No, no,
- 14:03Speaker 1: I would change my answer after that. Steve has made
- 14:07Speaker 1: the room nervous. You ready go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 14:12Speaker 1: We have Steve saying squirrel, Krin saying Canada goose, Chris
- 14:16Speaker 1: saying squirrel, Brody saying birds, Ken saying squirrel, Jana saying birds,
- 14:22Speaker 1: Carmen saying raptors. The correct answer is squirrels. I was
- 14:30Speaker 1: gonna go to birds after you, but no, no, because
- 14:35Speaker 1: his little tidbit they're birds wouldn't work. Man well in
- 14:39Speaker 1: the record like a family in the record keeping. Here's
- 14:43Speaker 1: what it is. Since squirrels have caused nearly hundred power outages.
- 14:48Speaker 1: That's nearly twice as many as birds, which are second
- 14:51Speaker 1: on the list. In third place is snakes, in fourth
- 14:54Speaker 1: place is raccoons, and in fifth place is rats. Other
- 14:58Speaker 1: animals on the list include cats, weasels, jellyfish, foxes, and frogs.
- 15:04Speaker 1: How does it? How does the snake? What does the state?
- 15:05Speaker 1: Climbing up there and they cross some wires. I think
- 15:08Speaker 1: there's been a mini photos in the last decade that
- 15:10Speaker 1: have gone viral of of snakes that have himself laid
- 15:15Speaker 1: over the Yeah. I've heard at one point that they
- 15:17Speaker 1: were like hunting birds up there or something, and that's
- 15:20Speaker 1: what caused this problems. An industrious snake. Jellyfish, don't ask
- 15:24Speaker 1: me to explain that one. I don't know. Someone threw
- 15:26Speaker 1: a jellyfish question for the topic is public lands located
- 15:32Speaker 1: in California. This is the tallest mountain in the lower
- 15:36Speaker 1: forty eight. No one with an answer quite yet. Located
- 15:42Speaker 1: in California, this is the tallest mountain in the lower
- 15:46Speaker 1: forty eight. Karin and Janice got this one. No one
- 15:50Speaker 1: else has created an answer quite yet. Steve's umunculus working
- 15:55Speaker 1: hard Poland strings. Located in California. This is the tallest
- 16:01Speaker 1: mountain in the lower forty eight. Yanni, you got this one.
- 16:07Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure, Karan you got this one. Okay, I
- 16:10Speaker 1: need I need five minutes, five minutes. We gotta have
- 16:13Speaker 1: some in filler content for five minutes, Phil, how much
- 16:18Speaker 1: can you talk about Pokemon for five minutes? I'm sitting
- 16:21Speaker 1: next to Brody, so I don't think I wanted reaching distance.
- 16:24Speaker 1: We'll make it maybe sixty seconds and then get stabbed.
- 16:27Speaker 1: If you can work a clue in it, you can
- 16:29Speaker 1: talk about Pokemon all day again. Located in California. You
- 16:33Speaker 1: know what it is. Just give me a second. This
- 16:34Speaker 1: is the tallest mountain in the lower forty eight. Brody,
- 16:38Speaker 1: do you have this one? No? But I'm enjoyed seeing
- 16:40Speaker 1: Steve squirm, literal squirming going on? What do you think
- 16:46Speaker 1: about this? Should we consider adding trapping as another vertical
- 16:50Speaker 1: to meet either That would help me a lot. We
- 16:55Speaker 1: have a trapping question coming up later. I figured Steve,
- 17:01Speaker 1: how are we doing? He looks like he's in pain.
- 17:07Speaker 1: It was just like one one peak, one name of
- 17:12Speaker 1: one place or yes, I don't even know if mine's
- 17:16Speaker 1: in I got nothing man, it's like called does everybody
- 17:23Speaker 1: have an answer? You're just giving Steve more time because
- 17:25Speaker 1: none of us know. Steve. We're about ten seconds away
- 17:29Speaker 1: from Phil talking Pokemon eight seven six Pokemon called Mountain
- 17:41Speaker 1: Moon and that's not the end. Go ahead and reveal
- 17:43Speaker 1: your answers. We've got Steve saying, what's that? Say it's
- 17:47Speaker 1: some ship like snowcraft or buttercop or something like that.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Korean saying Mount tam I just made a joke. I
- 17:53Speaker 1: have no clue, Chris saying Mount shastic Ken without an answer,
- 17:59Speaker 1: You honest saying Whitney, and Carmen saying Shasta. The correct
- 18:04Speaker 1: answer is Mount Whitney, never close, never heard of it.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Despite being the tallest mountain in the Lower forty eight,
- 18:15Speaker 1: Mount Whitney is shorter than ten different mountains in Alaska.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Its elevation is fourteen thousand, five hundred feet, which is
- 18:22Speaker 1: sixty five ft taller than the Lower forty eight next
- 18:25Speaker 1: biggest mountain, Colorado's Mount Albert. That's a good question. Question five.
- 18:32Speaker 1: You know I was like swarming thing, I knew it.
- 18:33Speaker 1: I didn't know it, Okay, very honest? Have you? Question
- 18:37Speaker 1: five will get a scoreboard update from philthy engineer. After this,
- 18:40Speaker 1: this next great question comes to us via Bradley Gates.
- 18:43Speaker 1: If you have a question you think is right for
- 18:45Speaker 1: meat eat to Trivia, you can send it to trivia
- 18:48Speaker 1: at the meat eator dot com. What is the phenomenon
- 18:51Speaker 1: that describes how an arrow's path differs from a bow's
- 18:55Speaker 1: aim point? What is the phenom amenon that describes how
- 19:01Speaker 1: an arrows path differs from a bows aim point? The
- 19:08Speaker 1: room is thinking hard. Stephen Crin have answers Brody coming
- 19:12Speaker 1: up with one again? The question is what is the
- 19:15Speaker 1: phenomenon that describes how an arrow is path differs from
- 19:20Speaker 1: a bows aim point? Steve, you got this one? Yeah? Probably? Okay,
- 19:26Speaker 1: I don't know. Probably. This is question five. Topic is hunting, Yanny?
- 19:33Speaker 1: How you feeling? Brody is just like a little lump
- 19:39Speaker 1: on a log? Oh man, I'm having a rough day. Yeah,
- 19:43Speaker 1: I just want to leave again? This is the phenomenon
- 19:46Speaker 1: that describes how an arrows path differs from a bows
- 19:50Speaker 1: aim point? Does everybody have an answer? I know I've
- 19:55Speaker 1: heard this word from my husband. But Steve's looking cocky
- 19:59Speaker 1: or no, no, not, I'm not, I don't think. Go
- 20:01Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Steve saying archer's paradox,
- 20:05Speaker 1: Krin saying minutes of angle, Chris saying parallax, Brody saying trajectory,
- 20:12Speaker 1: Ken saying trajectory, Janice saying archer's paradox. Carmen without an answer,
- 20:17Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Oh, the correct answer is archer's paradox. That
- 20:25Speaker 1: wasn't raining, That's not the same. Mr. Directory. Most think
- 20:28Speaker 1: that the archer's paradox is the bending of an arrow,
- 20:32Speaker 1: but the reality is that bending is how an arrow
- 20:35Speaker 1: overcomes the archer's paradox. This is why it's important for
- 20:38Speaker 1: bow hunters to have an arrow that has the correct
- 20:41Speaker 1: spine for their setup. Phil, we're halfway through the game
- 20:44Speaker 1: of trivia. Give us a scoreboard update. With one point apiece.
- 20:48Speaker 1: We have Carmen, Karinn and Brody Henderson. Brody, holy shit,
- 20:55Speaker 1: spen the the end. He's not even index. Yeah, it's
- 21:01Speaker 1: gonna have to work hard to hit the Shelby index. Here.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Chris has two points, Ken has three, and Steve and
- 21:07Speaker 1: Janice are tied in first place with four points. Man,
- 21:11Speaker 1: the guests are doing good. Anyone's game. We haven't even
- 21:14Speaker 1: throwed them their bone yet. Oh you haven't thrown bone yet.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Question six. The topic is woodsmanship. What do you call
- 21:32Speaker 1: the valuable outgrowth on a tree in which the grain
- 21:36Speaker 1: is deformed with knots? Mm hmm? What do you call
- 21:41Speaker 1: the valuable outgrowth on a tree in which the grain
- 21:45Speaker 1: is deformed with knots? Quick answers from every person in
- 21:49Speaker 1: the room. It's maybe a seven for seven. Does everybody
- 21:53Speaker 1: have an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers? Got
- 21:57Speaker 1: Steve saying burl burl, Burl, burl, burl, burl. Everybody got it?
- 22:02Speaker 1: The correct answer is burl or burr. Uh. Carmen did something.
- 22:08Speaker 1: I'm not comfortable. I did quell, but I feel that
- 22:14Speaker 1: any kind of thing of like altering an answer like that,
- 22:20Speaker 1: that's like a warning. But don't she could have done
- 22:27Speaker 1: any number she could have done any number of niculars.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I'll keep it clean. Burls are often the result of
- 22:34Speaker 1: some sort of stress, such as an injury, disease, or fungus.
- 22:38Speaker 1: They are sought after by woodworkers because of their unique colors, swirls,
- 22:42Speaker 1: and textures. Pat Durkin covered the subject of tree burr
- 22:45Speaker 1: poachers in article on the meat eator dot com called
- 22:49Speaker 1: black market burl the underworld of illegal timber. Hece, there's
- 22:54Speaker 1: a nice boat and burrow bowl right behind you. Spencer, Oh,
- 22:59Speaker 1: did you hear about that mouse was living in that bowl?
- 23:01Speaker 1: I didn't know he was living in the bowls at Determine.
- 23:03Speaker 1: That was his home range. That's where I saw him.
- 23:06Speaker 1: He's up there. I thought he was caught. He's dead.
- 23:10Speaker 1: He's dead. I didn't think they should have trapped him.
- 23:12Speaker 1: They should have. Question seven, The topic is trapping. Three
- 23:19Speaker 1: states have a bobcat population over two hundred thousand. Name
- 23:24Speaker 1: one of them? Oh, three states have a bobcat population
- 23:31Speaker 1: over two hundred thousand. Name one of those states. Very confident, Steve,
- 23:37Speaker 1: very cocky, Carmen. Do you think you're gonna get this one? No?
- 23:41Speaker 1: Come on, I think you are, Grant. I think you
- 23:47Speaker 1: are too. Feel bad, feel bad? Three states bobcat population
- 23:58Speaker 1: over two hundred thousand. Name one of those states. Does
- 24:03Speaker 1: everybody have an answer? Yeah? I can't change because I looked,
- 24:07Speaker 1: I saw yours, so I'm not gonna do it. All right,
- 24:09Speaker 1: let's go go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 24:12Speaker 1: Steve saying California, Karin saying Arizona, Chris sang Nebraska, Brodie
- 24:17Speaker 1: saying California, Ken saying New Mexico, Ghana saying California, Carmen
- 24:22Speaker 1: saying Arizona. Nobody got it. States are Florida, Georgia, and Texas. Texas,
- 24:34Speaker 1: Texas and the rest of you, though were like in
- 24:36Speaker 1: the top ten. I think all the states you mentioned
- 24:38Speaker 1: were in the sixty thousand range. Um, so not quite
- 24:42Speaker 1: two hundred. Florida has to just crawling with them. These
- 24:45Speaker 1: numbers are based on a two thousand ten article in
- 24:48Speaker 1: the Journal of Fish and Wildlife Management. They estimate that
- 24:51Speaker 1: there are three hundred thousand bob cats in Texas and
- 24:54Speaker 1: Florida and two hundred thousand bomb cats in Georgia. It's
- 24:58Speaker 1: estimated that there are about three million in bob can't
- 25:00Speaker 1: in America, which means those three states contained twenty of
- 25:05Speaker 1: the country's population. That's remarkable because it's like that thickly,
- 25:10Speaker 1: like densely vegetated stuff. It must just be that they're
- 25:13Speaker 1: just there. I don't know what I'm talking about. I
- 25:16Speaker 1: got a lot of food down there. I was thinking
- 25:19Speaker 1: down that way. I was trying to pick you know,
- 25:21Speaker 1: like Alabama, Georgia. I was, I was there, I was there,
- 25:25Speaker 1: The thing is, we're all thinking of Western cats. That's
- 25:28Speaker 1: your high dollar cats. That's everybody wants to trap cats.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Some cats aren't worth much, They're not quality for cats.
- 25:34Speaker 1: So does the question is flawed? Well, I'm just gonna
- 25:37Speaker 1: say you wouldn't think people don't brag um a trap
- 25:41Speaker 1: of cats and those states. If he had he said
- 25:43Speaker 1: load dollar cats, yes, I would have been there. I've
- 25:47Speaker 1: thought about it across my Florida in parking lots though,
- 25:50Speaker 1: and ship like that. There's a lot of lot They've
- 25:54Speaker 1: got easy, easy viddles your own. That's from a two
- 26:00Speaker 1: article in the Journal of Fish and Wildlife Management. Question.
- 26:03Speaker 1: The topic is fishing and this next great question comes
- 26:05Speaker 1: to us via Matthew Bacca. If you have a question
- 26:08Speaker 1: you think is right for Meatia to trivia, you can
- 26:10Speaker 1: send it to Trivia at the meatiator dot com. This
- 26:14Speaker 1: fishing brand, which used to be known as the Zero
- 26:17Speaker 1: Hour Bomb Company, invented the world's first spin cast reel
- 26:22Speaker 1: in nineteen forty nine. This fishing which used to be
- 26:28Speaker 1: known as the Zero Our Bomb Company, invented the world's
- 26:32Speaker 1: first spin cast reel in nineteen forty nine. Very quick
- 26:36Speaker 1: answer from Brody and Steve st a large smart You
- 26:43Speaker 1: got this one. This is question eight and we will
- 26:46Speaker 1: get a scoreboard update after this. I feel like I
- 26:53Speaker 1: don't know the spell perfectly because I don't know, I
- 26:57Speaker 1: can't tell that they're sometimes a shitty grand and Ivan smirk.
- 27:00Speaker 1: I can't tell him apart they're different. Does everybody have
- 27:05Speaker 1: an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 27:08Speaker 1: Steve saying zebko kran without an answer, Chris saying Shimano,
- 27:13Speaker 1: Brody saying zebko Ken saying diawa dial Ya saying Zepco,
- 27:20Speaker 1: Carmen without an answer. The correct answer is Zepco. The
- 27:25Speaker 1: brand changed its name from Zero Hour Bomb Company to
- 27:28Speaker 1: Zebco in nineteen fifty six. This was after a real
- 27:32Speaker 1: was sent to the White House for President Eisenhower and
- 27:35Speaker 1: confiscated by security. The bomb squad took the package and
- 27:39Speaker 1: threw it into a tub of water, not realizing that
- 27:41Speaker 1: Zero Hour Bomb Company made fishing gear, so they thought
- 27:46Speaker 1: that a bomb company had mailed him a bomb and
- 27:50Speaker 1: put on the package. Zero Hour Were they always a
- 27:54Speaker 1: fishing company or like? Does that name come from like
- 27:58Speaker 1: some World War two like? So they used to make
- 28:01Speaker 1: like small bombs for oil rigs when folks were prospecting um.
- 28:05Speaker 1: And then they had a politician from Texas that saw
- 28:10Speaker 1: a deli counter um guy who was pulling the number
- 28:13Speaker 1: tickets out of like a little can. And then he thought, oh,
- 28:17Speaker 1: that's something that maybe a fishing company could make. So
- 28:19Speaker 1: he went to the Zero Hour Bomb Company. They made
- 28:21Speaker 1: the first one. This this politician saw it a deli counter.
- 28:27Speaker 1: How he was pulling tabs from a little bottle right
- 28:31Speaker 1: like how it was you know what I'm talking about,
- 28:32Speaker 1: any pictures you pull a number and that made him
- 28:34Speaker 1: think you the DMV. That made him think maybe that
- 28:38Speaker 1: could apply to a fishing wheel. So then he went
- 28:40Speaker 1: to the zero He went to the Zero Hour Bomb
- 28:44Speaker 1: Company asked them to make something and they actually messed around.
- 28:47Speaker 1: One of the first prototypes was made of a beer can.
- 28:50Speaker 1: I think it's interesting how they went with like a
- 28:52Speaker 1: combination of abbreviation and an acronym to come up with
- 28:57Speaker 1: the new name ZEPCO from Zero Hour Bomb Company. And
- 29:00Speaker 1: then yeah, because then they got rid of the age.
- 29:05Speaker 1: It works. It's like, wow, let's just take out like letters. Bam, Phil,
- 29:12Speaker 1: we have two questions left to give us a scoreboard update.
- 29:15Speaker 1: It's two points apiece. Karan and Carmen have been eliminated
- 29:18Speaker 1: from the game. He said that kind of mean Phil,
- 29:23Speaker 1: as well as Chris and Brody. Yeah, it happened when game.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Each time it happens, Steve declares, I've been I've been eliminated.
- 29:39Speaker 1: This is the late elimination. What's what's the leaderboard? Ken,
- 29:44Speaker 1: Janie and Steve are still in the game. Ken has
- 29:46Speaker 1: four points. Stevens are tied. The six question nine, the
- 29:51Speaker 1: topic is cooking. What is the maximum number of Michelin
- 29:57Speaker 1: stars a restaurant can get? What is the maximum number
- 30:03Speaker 1: of Michelin stars a restaurant can get? Brodie and see
- 30:08Speaker 1: with quick answers. I thought out I should have watched
- 30:14Speaker 1: you write, because I bet if I saw you write
- 30:16Speaker 1: the number, I would know number. Karin also with a
- 30:23Speaker 1: quick answer. Karann, You're gonna get this one right, be honest?
- 30:27Speaker 1: How you feel? Oh? Well, I mean looking for the
- 30:31Speaker 1: maximum number of Michelin stars a restaurant can get? Does
- 30:38Speaker 1: everybody have an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 30:43Speaker 1: We have Steve saying three, Karin saying four, Chris sang five,
- 30:47Speaker 1: Brodie saying three, Ken saying five, Jannae saying three and
- 30:50Speaker 1: Carmen sang four. The correct answer is three. Here is
- 30:56Speaker 1: the Michelin scale. One star means quote it's a very
- 31:00Speaker 1: good restaurant in this category. Two stars means quote it
- 31:04Speaker 1: has excellent cooking worth a detour, and three stars means
- 31:08Speaker 1: quote it has exceptional cuisine worth a special journey. Do
- 31:12Speaker 1: you know that that um that it Actually it's the
- 31:15Speaker 1: tire company. The tire company. They were trying to like
- 31:17Speaker 1: promote you know what they're trying to like promote driving.
- 31:22Speaker 1: They're real stingy with those three star ratings. Yeah, just
- 31:25Speaker 1: just to hold us stars astound. Have you eaten that
- 31:28Speaker 1: many Michelin restaurants? I have no, not many. A couple
- 31:30Speaker 1: of times did it hold up? It was worth the hype?
- 31:33Speaker 1: Where the special journey? We ate it one together, didn't we?
- 31:37Speaker 1: Wasn't that right they had? Or multipolar three doesn't like
- 31:45Speaker 1: French laundry have been there? I don't like, I don't.
- 31:52Speaker 1: I I can't answer that because there's so much sort
- 31:55Speaker 1: of there's so much. Yeah, but like like when we
- 32:00Speaker 1: ate it one, we kind of ate it one sort
- 32:01Speaker 1: of like in a friends scenario, and it made a
- 32:03Speaker 1: lot of fun. Yeah, Phil, we have one question left,
- 32:07Speaker 1: give us a scoreboard update, two players left in the
- 32:10Speaker 1: game or Steven Ronella and Janice who tell us was
- 32:12Speaker 1: seven points apiece? Question to the topic is hunting? This
- 32:18Speaker 1: next great question comes to hiss Via Dakota Bolton. If
- 32:21Speaker 1: you have a question you think is right for Meatia
- 32:23Speaker 1: to Trivia, you can send it to Trivia at the
- 32:25Speaker 1: media dot com. This is my vertical expertise, Steve. Drake,
- 32:31Speaker 1: Hooded Mergansers, Drake redheads, and Drake Northern shovelers all have
- 32:36Speaker 1: this eye color. Drake, hooded Burganzers, Drake redheads, and Drake
- 32:44Speaker 1: Northern shovelers all have this eye color. I'm sensing the
- 32:49Speaker 1: same amount of confidence from Janice and Steve coming up
- 32:52Speaker 1: with an answer which seems like what do you boys think?
- 33:01Speaker 1: I know? Is? Janice has a very good track record
- 33:03Speaker 1: and overtime. Steve, how you feeling about this again? Looking
- 33:09Speaker 1: for the eye color of hooded Merganzas, redheads and Northern shovelers.
- 33:14Speaker 1: When it comes to Drake's does everybody have an answer?
- 33:18Speaker 1: Go ahead and modified real quickly, go ahead and reveal

- 33:34Speaker 1: and Carmen sang red. One of you is the winner.
- 33:38Speaker 1: The correct answer is yellow, giving Steve correct answer and
- 33:45Speaker 1: the victory. I'm not hooded. Northern shovelers are the only
- 33:50Speaker 1: puddle duck with yellow eyes. It's far more common in
- 33:53Speaker 1: diving ducks. In addition to all the ones listed, ring
- 33:57Speaker 1: necked ducks, scups and of course golden eye all have
- 34:01Speaker 1: yellow eyes. Are given my money. What happens next is
- 34:05Speaker 1: you get to choose where the five donation goes, which
- 34:08Speaker 1: you've already teased. So what's it gonna be my donation
- 34:12Speaker 1: will go to? Are you able to take where you
- 34:15Speaker 1: know you don't want? Someone donates money that has to
- 34:17Speaker 1: go to a specific category. Is that too annoying for you? Oh,
- 34:20Speaker 1: I can go to it. I'll do general funds. I
- 34:25Speaker 1: was gonna make it specific to your snowmobile problem. So
- 34:28Speaker 1: they're the Home Range Wildlife Research. Home Range Wildlife Research
- 34:32Speaker 1: has a problem right now where they're doing their operation
- 34:35Speaker 1: on twenty five year old snow meals. You need to upgrade.
- 34:38Speaker 1: They're trying to upgrade like ten year old used snow
- 34:40Speaker 1: meals um I was gonna earmark my five donation for
- 34:45Speaker 1: home range wildlife research. UM I was gonna earmarket for
- 34:48Speaker 1: snow meals, but I don't want to be burdensome, so
- 34:50Speaker 1: it's just for the general slush fund. I like it.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Thank you, well done, Steve, Thank you Ken, Chris, Thank
- 34:59Speaker 1: you for coming. Hope you enjoyed mediat or Trivia. Join
