- 0:18Speaker 2: he have to pay up?
- 0:19Speaker 1: If it's in front of a church?
- 0:20Speaker 2: Judge Karen's gonna tell us. And if you our roommates
- 0:25Speaker 2: with your best friend.
- 0:25Speaker 3: And your best friend leaves before the lease is up,
- 0:28Speaker 3: is it okay to be but heart about it? There
- 0:30Speaker 3: were is not mine?
- 0:31Speaker 1: Judge Faith tells this, real people, okases, thank just this
- 0:34Speaker 1: is whoa hello already? Oh man, you gotta what time?
- 0:48Speaker 1: Is it? Gavel time?
- 0:50Speaker 2: It's gavel nation? Is that what you said? Welcome on
- 0:53Speaker 2: in gavel nation. I've never liked that term nations because
- 0:58Speaker 2: all the like the Yankees never did that, but it
- 1:00Speaker 2: was always Red Sox nation, and that would always bother me.
- 1:03Speaker 2: I don't know why it's a rock and roll something
- 1:06Speaker 2: you just gave it was, or it's you know whatever
- 1:10Speaker 2: it is.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Nation is not where I am unrelated? Okay?
- 1:15Speaker 3: Best Striper song to Hell with the Devil exactly right.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Striper this year went on an acoustic tour. Oh guess
- 1:23Speaker 3: what it was called? The tour the Hell with the
- 1:26Speaker 3: Devil Nation?
- 1:27Speaker 1: Uh No, to Hell with the Amps.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Does Michael Striper. It's Michael Sweet, Michael Sweet, Michael. He
- 1:38Speaker 2: has to be able to Yeah. I combined Michael Stipe
- 1:41Speaker 2: from r EM with Michael Striper. Michael Striper, Michael Striper.
- 1:45Speaker 3: It's great to be here today. I'm I went over
- 1:47Speaker 3: to Judge Faith Chambers. You went over to.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Judge Karen Supreme Justice with Judge Karen and it's I'm
- 1:54Speaker 2: gonna start. It's a little appetizer for you. Uh and
- 1:58Speaker 2: it's it also is a two and fifty dollar case,
- 2:02Speaker 2: no boy, that somebody may or may not lose out
- 2:07Speaker 2: on two and fifty bones. My favorite part of this
- 2:10Speaker 2: case is a scamp for more than that. There's a
- 2:13Speaker 2: guy named Larry who named his son Jerry. That's my
- 2:15Speaker 2: favorite part of this case. His son is in the courtroom.
- 2:17Speaker 2: So we have Larry and Jerry.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Jerry Larry Berry three five O very Jerry.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Larry Graham is suing Nancy Barons for two hundred and
- 2:33Speaker 2: fifty dollars for a broken windshield. Now this is really
- 2:37Speaker 2: more about their sons, who are both there. The sons
- 2:39Speaker 2: are like probably six seventh grade.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Be my guess.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Okay, Larry's like we belong to the same church. We
- 2:44Speaker 2: go to church every Saturday. They go to Mass every Saturday.
- 2:47Speaker 2: It's up in New York. So other Catholic. Yeah sant
- 2:49Speaker 2: no more. Well it's I said, masked. What do you
- 2:51Speaker 2: think they are? Yeah, I was confirmed a Jewish Mass. Yeah, no,
- 2:55Speaker 2: it's a it's yes, they're Catholic and he's like my
- 2:58Speaker 2: son and her son.
- 2:59Speaker 1: They play together.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Ever since they started coming to church, which has been
- 3:02Speaker 2: a few months, the boys have been friends and basically
- 3:05Speaker 2: they judge. Karen's like Ran Randy, Randy b oh Rady.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Nancy's son's name is Randy. Okay, out of the grass
- 3:14Speaker 2: with Randy. We have all kinds of I made this
- 3:17Speaker 2: say I didn't have time to watch a case. I'm like,
- 3:19Speaker 2: what if I make up your kids with Larry, Jerry
- 3:21Speaker 2: and Randy. Randy's like, yeah, we played baseball outside the church,
- 3:25Speaker 2: and Larry's like, so, I'm sitting in my car and
- 3:27Speaker 2: the boys are playing catch. All of a sudden, his
- 3:29Speaker 2: friend throws the ball and it just right in the
- 3:32Speaker 2: mind like it looks like it's gonna hit me in
- 3:33Speaker 2: the face. He cracks shatters my window.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Judge. Karen's like, just Carrien gets really hung up on
- 3:40Speaker 1: a diagram.
- 3:41Speaker 2: She's like, do we have a diagram of the where
- 3:43Speaker 2: the car is? And they were like, no, we don't.
- 3:47Speaker 2: We don't want diagram for the two hundred and fifty dollars.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 3:51Speaker 2: And Karen's like, well, were you playing in the parking
- 3:53Speaker 2: lot and they were like, well, there's a little grass.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Jerry Larry's son, Jerry is like, there's a grassy area
- 3:59Speaker 2: that connects to the park. And she's like, nobody has
- 4:01Speaker 2: a diagram and they're like no. And she's like, who
- 4:03Speaker 2: feels comfortable drawing a diagram? Oh? And one of the
- 4:07Speaker 2: kids is like, I'll do it. So Jerry's like, have
- 4:09Speaker 2: a whiteboard, no, no, on a sheet. She had the
- 4:12Speaker 2: bailiff hands in a sheet of paper to draw a diagram.
- 4:17Speaker 2: So we all gotta have to sign off on it. Yeah,
- 4:19Speaker 2: that looks about right. Yes, all that's gonna happen. Randy's
- 4:24Speaker 2: drawing a diagram. Jerry keeps talking. So Jerry's like, our
- 4:28Speaker 2: parents like to get to church early, and so we
- 4:30Speaker 2: always play catch, and he threw it way over my head,
- 4:33Speaker 2: like fifteen feet over my head. Karen's like, was it
- 4:36Speaker 2: about the distance from you to the bailiff, and he's like, uh,
- 4:39Speaker 2: further and Karen's like, well that's fifteen feet. Once again, Karen,
- 4:43Speaker 2: you have a tape measure, like she's made a real
- 4:46Speaker 2: Karen here, Like, I don't get it. So and she's
- 4:50Speaker 2: like any other kids involved? No, there's little kids there.
- 4:53Speaker 2: We tell them no, they can't play.
- 4:54Speaker 1: She's like, are these kids again? Uh, they're like probably
- 4:57Speaker 1: fifth or sixth grade. I think.
- 4:59Speaker 2: She's like, well, whose ball isn't And Jerry's like, it's
- 5:02Speaker 2: his ball.
- 5:03Speaker 1: We come with our own mits. Randy has drawn a diagram. Judge.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Karen describes a diagram and then isn't satisfied with it.
- 5:11Speaker 2: It's like, can you mark on here, put an X
- 5:14Speaker 2: where the cars are, and then put a thing for
- 5:17Speaker 2: where you're throwing. It just doesn't I don't. I couldn't
- 5:21Speaker 2: get over it. And then she's like, Jerry, do you
- 5:23Speaker 2: agree that this diagram is accurate? And Jerry's like, yes,
- 5:26Speaker 2: it is, so Larry's like, I'm really upset. This is
- 5:29Speaker 2: where the case goes off the rails. Little really upset,
- 5:32Speaker 2: and so I start to I get out of my
- 5:33Speaker 2: car and I start to walk towards Randy. The kid
- 5:37Speaker 2: runs into church, and so I storm after him into church.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Randy does.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Randy runs into church, Larry storms after him, The dad
- 5:47Speaker 2: storms after the Nancy's kid got Nancy, Randy, Larry, Jerry,
- 5:51Speaker 2: don't worry. Mass is not started yet. It's about five
- 5:54Speaker 2: minutes before mass. But Nancy sees her son running in
- 5:58Speaker 2: and a man so this is adult is running after it,
- 6:01Speaker 2: charming after her, and then she goes and grabbing my son. Yeah,
- 6:05Speaker 2: and he and what does a Catholic church? Karen'said, look,
- 6:09Speaker 2: come on, well, I don't know what you want bonus episode.
- 6:12Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I said some things I should 'tough. Karen said,
- 6:16Speaker 2: did you grab him? And He's like, I grabbed him
- 6:18Speaker 2: by the wrist just so he would turn around and
- 6:20Speaker 2: talk to me about what he did. And Nancy's like,
- 6:23Speaker 2: you chased my son and grabbed him in church. And
- 6:27Speaker 2: Nancy's like, he came up, he grabbed his arm, he squeezed,
- 6:30Speaker 2: and then he told him I told him to get
- 6:32Speaker 2: his hands off my son, like right now. He continued
- 6:35Speaker 2: to berate and chastise me in front of our entire church.
- 6:38Speaker 2: He told me I was a bad parent, and Nancy. Karen,
- 6:41Speaker 2: at this point goes, what are y'all learning in church?
- 6:44Speaker 1: Come on?
- 6:45Speaker 2: Came in. Larry's like, all I wanted was for her
- 6:47Speaker 2: to pay for my windshield on her. I was not
- 6:49Speaker 2: out of hand. I was not berating, that's it. And
- 6:53Speaker 2: she cares like, do y'all go to this church anymore?
- 6:54Speaker 2: And Nancy's like, we don't. And the reason is I
- 6:57Speaker 2: tried to tell him we'd pay for the windshield, okay,
- 6:59Speaker 2: but he kept berating me, and so we walked away
- 7:01Speaker 2: and then he said you'll pay me that money or else.
- 7:05Speaker 2: So I didn't feel safe around him at the area,
- 7:08Speaker 2: and we got a threat. And at this point, Karen goes,
- 7:10Speaker 2: where was the rest of the church?
- 7:13Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right.
- 7:13Speaker 2: What were they doing? Did they say nothing at any
- 7:16Speaker 2: witnesses up in this joint? Larry's like, my intent was
- 7:19Speaker 2: not to make a scene. She's exaggerating the whole situation.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Karen's ready to rule.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Well, I you know, it sounds like she was willing
- 7:29Speaker 3: to pay the money before she was threatened, So I
- 7:35Speaker 3: am inclined to give him the money. Had there been
- 7:38Speaker 3: a witness that would have said, actually, yes, he did
- 7:41Speaker 3: threaten her, I think we would have a different story here.
- 7:45Speaker 1: But because we just have a he said.
- 7:47Speaker 3: She said, one thing that we can't agree on is
- 7:49Speaker 3: that the windshield was indeed cracked, and that they were
- 7:52Speaker 3: going to pay for it before you know good, they
- 7:56Speaker 3: got threatened.
- 7:56Speaker 1: So I'm gonna give I'm gonna give them.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Money, okay, and looks back at the diagram again because
- 8:01Speaker 2: of the diagram, and she's like, it looks like you're
- 8:05Speaker 2: throwing this really near the door of the church.
- 8:07Speaker 1: And they're like yeah.
- 8:09Speaker 2: And she says, so you mean to tell me every
- 8:11Speaker 2: Saturday at math, at math, at Mass, two boys are
- 8:17Speaker 2: throwing a baseball at the front door of the church
- 8:20Speaker 2: in a parking lot full of cars. Sooner or later,
- 8:24Speaker 2: something like this is going to happen. They are children, irresponsible.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Both of you are irresponsible. You shouldn't be letting your
- 8:32Speaker 2: kids throw baseball there. I'm gonna she says this, I'm
- 8:35Speaker 2: gonna split the baby. You're each paying for half one
- 8:39Speaker 2: to the plane. If that's her rule, you can't split babies. No,
- 8:44Speaker 2: we wouldn't. That's ridiculous.
- 8:46Speaker 1: It's a ridiculous ruling in a ridiculous case.
- 8:48Speaker 2: And I don't know if I'm gonna go back to
- 8:49Speaker 2: Judge Karen because of all the diagrams. It was a lot,
- 8:53Speaker 2: but here's could have been three minutes without the diagram.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I also just say kind of disagree. Yes, fifth or
- 8:59Speaker 2: sixth grader with a baseball, like, if they play baseball,
- 9:03Speaker 2: let him play, let him throw the ball.
- 9:05Speaker 1: So he did.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Like most enturance, if you have comprehensive covers in your insurance,
- 9:09Speaker 2: it's gonna cover the windshield.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Cares like, kid's my baseball, It's America's pastime.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Let the boys play. Yeah, boys, remember the Titans. I
- 9:16Speaker 2: went with nice, Thanks, I go. I went over to
- 9:20Speaker 2: judge Faith. If you're ready for it, I'm ready.
- 9:22Speaker 3: I got Justin or Rositis, who's suing nom Garcia for
- 9:27Speaker 3: two thousand, nine hundred and twenty five dollars, so a
- 9:30Speaker 3: little bit more than your two fifty two, nine hundred
- 9:33Speaker 3: and twenty five dollars. Justin and Noam were both models
- 9:36Speaker 3: in Minneapolis.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Justice, what was the second name again? No? No? Okay, no, no, no,
- 9:42Speaker 1: Justin and on.
- 9:42Speaker 3: They were both models in Minneapolis and they become really
- 9:45Speaker 3: good friends. They were basically attached at the hip. They
- 9:50Speaker 3: whenever they would go out if they weren't with each other,
- 9:52Speaker 3: to be like, hey, where's where's not. They were like,
- 9:55Speaker 3: you know, that's how it was. And so they had
- 9:58Speaker 3: dreams of moving to to La So they decided that
- 10:04Speaker 3: they were going to get a cheap apartment together in
- 10:06Speaker 3: Minneapolis for one year, save up their money, and then
- 10:10Speaker 3: make the make the plunge to the big city of
- 10:13Speaker 3: Los Angeles. So it's a one bedroom apartment, which you
- 10:17Speaker 3: might think is a little bit crazy to these two fellas.
- 10:20Speaker 3: These two fellas sharing a one bedroom apartment, but you
- 10:23Speaker 3: gotta do what you gotta do. They each paid three
- 10:26Speaker 3: hundred and twenty five dollars a month.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Wow. So very cheap apartment. Very cheap apartment.
- 10:32Speaker 2: So a few months into the least, Nom lost his job.
- 10:37Speaker 1: So Nom is talking to his brother. His brother lives
- 10:41Speaker 1: in New.
- 10:41Speaker 3: York City, so not Los Angeles, New York City.
- 10:47Speaker 1: I've heard it at the concrete Jungle. Dreams are made.
- 10:49Speaker 2: There, dreams are made. Yeah, that's what dreams are made of.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Now where dreams are made, where dreams are made up. Yeah,
- 10:58Speaker 2: what I'm trying to say, there's something you can there's
- 10:59Speaker 2: nothing you can't do.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Now we're living in New York.
- 11:04Speaker 3: So he's like, hey, I know somebody that let me
- 11:10Speaker 3: talk to this person. They might be able to get
- 11:12Speaker 3: you a place to stay out in New York, introduced
- 11:15Speaker 3: you to some agents, kind of kicks out your career.
- 11:18Speaker 3: And so Nom is like, well, this sounds like a
- 11:20Speaker 3: pretty good deal for me, because you know, I just
- 11:23Speaker 3: lost my job. My brother is saying I could come
- 11:25Speaker 3: to New York, big city, big city, live in a
- 11:28Speaker 3: place for free, and this person's going.
- 11:30Speaker 1: To introduce me to some agents the big city. That's
- 11:33Speaker 1: exactly right.
- 11:34Speaker 3: So he tells Justin, and Nom claims that Justin is
- 11:38Speaker 3: encouraging it first, but now Justin is all quote unquote
- 11:42Speaker 3: but hurt that I'm gone.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, you know, sometimes you are, sometimes you are.
- 11:48Speaker 3: So Justin is like, listen, when I heard about the
- 11:51Speaker 3: deal that Nom was offered, you know, I was excited
- 11:55Speaker 3: for him. But then I thought about it some more
- 11:57Speaker 3: and I got concerned that he was getting a free
- 12:01Speaker 3: place to stay.
- 12:01Speaker 1: In New York City.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Brother, No, no, no, no, his brother. This is a
- 12:06Speaker 3: guy that his brother knows. But his brother told him, right, yeah,
- 12:09Speaker 3: so his brother gonna con him. I don't. I don't
- 12:11Speaker 3: know his brother's gonna call him, but maybe his brother
- 12:13Speaker 3: get he's getting concerned. You know this this guy has
- 12:16Speaker 3: given him a place to stay, introducing him to quote
- 12:19Speaker 3: unquote agents. Uh. Justin then is like, your honor, I
- 12:24Speaker 3: know you were Miss Louisiana. I know that you are
- 12:27Speaker 3: runner up Miss America. I'm sure that you had some
- 12:32Speaker 3: people approach you back in the day.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Judge was Miss she was, And Judge Faith is like, nope,
- 12:39Speaker 2: I never actually had that happen to me.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Everybody that was in my life at that time was
- 12:43Speaker 3: actually really great. But I'm glad to see you did
- 12:45Speaker 3: your homework on who I am. So now Judge Faith
- 12:49Speaker 3: is like, Nom, how's it going out there in New
- 12:51Speaker 3: York City?
- 12:52Speaker 1: You doing okay? Getting conn And He's like, no, I'm
- 12:54Speaker 1: doing great, everything's great.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Justin's like, listen, in this industry, a lot of these
- 12:59Speaker 2: guys will offer free places to stay in exchange for
- 13:02Speaker 2: sexual favors.
- 13:04Speaker 1: There I said it, but the guy says he's doing fun. Yeah.
- 13:09Speaker 1: But now I's like, come on, get out of here.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Blah blah blah. This guy's Justin's crazy. Faith.
- 13:15Speaker 2: I think Justin is in love with Nom. Yeah, I
- 13:17Speaker 2: think probably. But and that's neither here nor there. That's
- 13:20Speaker 2: in the subtext. It's in the subtext.
- 13:22Speaker 3: If you've watched it, you'd pick up on that too,
- 13:25Speaker 3: because the first thing that Nom said, that Justin says
- 13:29Speaker 3: about what they bonded over was their interest in women.
- 13:32Speaker 1: So like, why is that the first day.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Girls? Too?
- 13:37Speaker 1: Cool? Man nice?
- 13:41Speaker 2: A couple of bros. A couple of bros. Just bros
- 13:46Speaker 2: over here, bros. Faith is like, Nom, you obviously breached
- 13:51Speaker 2: the lease. You know you're both on the thing together.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Why why should.
- 13:56Speaker 3: You not be have to pay the what you will?
- 13:59Speaker 3: And Nom says, I tried to go through the sub
- 14:02Speaker 3: lease process, found a sub letter, and the landlords were
- 14:06Speaker 3: being difficult. They said, no, you can't sublease it. Justin
- 14:11Speaker 3: provides texts where Noam says that he doesn't think that
- 14:14Speaker 3: he should have to pay anymore because he's not staying there,
- 14:18Speaker 3: and Justin does this whole Nom voice while he's reading
- 14:21Speaker 3: the text. He's like, adult, gosh should be able to
- 14:24Speaker 3: stay And Faith is like, this isn't You're not.
- 14:29Speaker 2: You don't have to do that. So Faith is ready
- 14:32Speaker 2: to rule so that the amount is twenty nine and twenty.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Five dollars, which, let me do this clear five dollars,
- 14:41Speaker 3: divide it by three twenty five.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Tens.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Nine months nine months. Yeah, nine months, so asking for
- 14:48Speaker 3: the remainder of the year. So nine months of.
- 14:51Speaker 2: If he didn't find a subletter, he's in breach of contract.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Like right, Justin gets the money. Justin gets the money. Circle,
- 15:00Speaker 2: it's the square.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Judge Faith says, I'm gonna give you three months. That
- 15:04Speaker 3: is a reasonable amount of time to find a sub letter.
- 15:07Speaker 3: And Justin, you didn't prove that the landlord denied a sublease.
- 15:12Speaker 3: If you would have come to us and proven that
- 15:15Speaker 3: the landlord was stopping this from happening, then I would
- 15:19Speaker 3: have probably given you the full amount of money. But
- 15:21Speaker 3: because you didn't prove that, I just now think that
- 15:24Speaker 3: you're not trying fair faith.
- 15:25Speaker 1: So it's a fair faith situation.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Raymon's nine hundred and seventy five dollars gone and done
- 15:30Speaker 3: here Yeah go everage body, was there a diagram though?
- 15:33Speaker 3: No diags, I'm believing in this case, which I could
- 15:36Speaker 3: have used personally.
- 15:38Speaker 1: We did.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Everybody, Congratulations. We go back next week with another one.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Until then, all rise.
