- 0:00SPEAKER_02: Over the weekend, I had a little meeting with Latit two forty two because we have our doll-up like Dolly party coming up on nine twenty-five-nine two five.
- 0:07SPEAKER_02: Nine two five.
- 0:08SPEAKER_02: Yes, Dolly Day.
- 0:10SPEAKER_02: And it's gonna be awesome.
- 0:11SPEAKER_02: The admission is just a book.
- 0:13SPEAKER_02: It can be a gently used book.
- 0:15SPEAKER_02: It can be a new book.
- 0:16SPEAKER_02: And if you don't wanna go get a book and you want to donate a little money, you can do that too.
- 0:20SPEAKER_02: The money is gonna go completely to the family reading partnership of Shimong Valley.
- 0:25SPEAKER_02: So we we're actually not even manning that part whatsoever.
- 0:29SPEAKER_02: I told him, I'm not touching your books, I'm not touching your money.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 0:32SPEAKER_02: That's all for you all set up.
- 0:34SPEAKER_02: But I I was looking at like, okay, where are we gonna decorate?
- 0:36SPEAKER_02: Because of course we're gonna like have pink and butterflies and all of that music, Dolly music all night long, best dressed.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: We're celebrating the queen.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: You don't have to dress like Dolly, but maybe wear a Dolly t-shirt or a pink shirt or some of her favorite colors.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: But we're gonna do that from 6 to 9 p.m.
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: at latitude 42 on Dolly Day.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: So make sure you're there with us because at once I had that meeting on Saturday, I was like, this is gonna be awesome.
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: Okay because they have the indoor venue, but then they open it up to there's an outdoor, like they open up this like garage door on the side.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: Oh, I love those, yeah.
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and there's an awning over top of it, too, so that way we're all protected and everything like that, little heaters and whatnot.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: So some people can be inside if they want, some people can be outside if they want.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: So you can celebrate and do something really nice, something that Dolly would have been proud of.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: She'd have been like, oh, you guys are getting people reading and getting more books on that.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: That's great.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: She would give the mark of approval for that.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: Oh, for sure.
- 1:28SPEAKER_02: I was actually just listening to a Dolly Parton podcast that I've sent to 19 people because I'm like, this podcast is so good.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: I've learned so much about Dolly Parton in the past few days.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: It is insane.
- 1:38SPEAKER_02: She was a lot sassier than I realized.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: Oh, really?
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: Her mouth is, she does not shy away.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: But she does it in a charming way that is almost disarming.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: So it's like you're like, well, all right, you doubt you just told me how it is.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: And I guess I'll live with that.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: Something you're living with, which um I'll see if I can help you out.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: What's going on?
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Um, so my six-year-old daughter's just not a morning person, like at all.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Um, she sleeps pretty late, which is honestly great for me during the summertime because I can actually get a little peace in the morning.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: But once school starts and we gotta get up early, she becomes like a completely different kid.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Um every single morning turns into this huge ordeal over her clothes and her hair and breakfast and what you've had for lunch, and it's just like every little thing somehow turns into a meltdown.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Like she throws these little tantrums over basically every decision, and by the time we're actually walking out the door, I'm exhausted, and she'll still be complaining about something.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Um, like I tried moving her bedtime earlier because I figured maybe she'd be less cranky, but it really hasn't made much difference, and she still does this pretty much every single morning before school.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: But I feel like there's gotta be some way to make these mornings less miserable.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, I I I absolutely have the way, but uh I'll I'll let you go first.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: You got anything?
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: The one thing I was curious on, because after she said moving the bedtime and she's done all this and that, is do you think that being a morning person is genetic?
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: Maybe she just isn't, and there's nothing that she can do.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: I think claiming you're not a morning person is a trained behavior and you're allowing it to happen.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: I'm about to make some comments that probably are not going to be the ones that sit there and go, Well, no, I know a lot of people will agree with what I'm gonna say, but at the same time, it's not the soft approach to fixing this.
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: Okay, then what's the approach?
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: Because she said she's tried so much stuff.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: You've got to lay the hammer down right now, as the adult and the parent house, and say, you will not become this person.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: I am not raising one of these people who will become an entitled person later in life and try to be, I'm not a mourning person.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: That's the most BS excuse on the planet.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: Period.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: The end, no more.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: You have control of your own emotions, and you can be because essentially what you're training is, you're training your daughter to be a little bee.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: And you're not, you you have to stop this now, or you're going to have, you're going to have a future of headaches.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: Can we work with this though?
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: Because I am dating somebody that he doesn't like a lot of talking in the morning.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: And me, the second my eyes wake up, I'm like, good morning, how's your day?
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: And he's like, Can we just get a slow roll?
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: He's not mean, is he?
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: No, no, he's just Because I'm not a big talker in the morning.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: I like to let let me let me breathe air and have some coffee.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: And that that's where I'm not throwing tantrums and you know, complaining about the outfit laid out for me, because that happens.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: No, I'm kidding.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: That well, that's so that's where I'm like, can we come up with a a compromise?
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: Because one of the things that my cousin You don't always compromise.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: This is a how old year old?
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: One of the things that my cousin always says about raising his children, he always says, the thing that I will do differently forever is completely different than how I was raised.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: Because in growing up, he never was allowed to like cry, or he wasn't allowed to uh he wasn't allowed to like sit in an emotion.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: His dad would be like, okay, get over it.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: Let's go.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: Where he will say, Okay, why are you feeling this way?
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: Or what can we almost and I don't want to say negotiate with your kid, but okay, tell me why you're feeling this way, and maybe I can approach it a little bit better.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: Well, you could potentially use that as a way to figure out what's going on in her head and what's doing it, but I still stand behind the fact if you allow this to continue now, this is only gonna become a bigger problem problem when she's a teen and uh getting into the earliers in high school, teenager, and then you know, as an adult, and frankly, it's just rude behavior, period.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: That's that it is just pure rude.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: I think that, and here's another thing, and I I'm not saying this is the answer, but at one point a friend of mine, when her child would be upset, she would say, You could be you can be upset for about 10 minutes, and then we have to move on.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: But we put a time limit on and then we have to move on because we can't focus on this.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: This is not the end all be all of our day.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: I'm not against figuring out what the emotion is, but you can't spend all your time doing that.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: At some point, you just gotta be firm enough to be like, this is not going to be tolerated.
- 6:19SPEAKER_02: I mean, do you give them five minutes to just I don't know.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: What, every day?
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: Get over it.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: Then you have to listen to me.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Now I sound like that guy's dad.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: Moving on.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: Then you have to allot five minutes in the morning for for a tantrum or a pow or uh something.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: I'm not expecting you to launch out of bed and be like, woo you know like Allie.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: I don't expect actually I I would discourage that because everybody else would be like, oh God, here she comes.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: Uh huh.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: Uh but put your foot you are the parent.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: I'll get in more comments next.
