- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:40Hi, it's Adam here. And in this episode of The
- 0:43Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a hypnosis session
- 0:46that was created for a client, that they had this feeling that
- 0:50people were out to get them, that there was this verge of
- 0:56them being punished or confronted.
- 0:59And they didn't really like that feeling.
- 1:02And it came from a very rational place.
- 1:04They had experienced abuse in their childhood when they were
- 1:08in school. Their father was quite abusive
- 1:11verbally, but also physically. And because of that, there was
- 1:15this feeling of being attacked and that was going way beyond,
- 1:22you know, just the context that it was actually happening, which
- 1:25was their childhood. And alongside that, what had
- 1:29happened is they had a very defiant nature because sometimes
- 1:35when people are oppressed or unfairly treated, they can
- 1:41either become weak or they can become strong.
- 1:43And defiance is quite a strong emotion.
- 1:46If you think about oppressed people in any part of the world,
- 1:53it gives a certain kind of stoic feeling of defiance that they
- 1:57will overcome the odds and they will dig deep within.
- 2:01So defiance can be quite a resourceful state.
- 2:03But in this case it was being used almost to punish
- 2:07themselves. So part of them was defiant and
- 2:10a part of them was becoming the source of punishment and harsh
- 2:15criticism that they experienced. So they had very harsh in a, in
- 2:19a dialogue, they would remind themselves of their mistakes.
- 2:23They would replay situations that were awkward, embarrassing,
- 2:27and that obviously was kind of draining them.
- 2:30So what you're going to hear in this session is a combination of
- 2:33different modalities. There's in a child work, which
- 2:37is what it starts with. That's really important because
- 2:41all of this came from experiences in their childhood.
- 2:45There's an element of parts integration therapy, so working
- 2:49with the conflicted parts to try and make them more harmonious
- 2:54and move towards something very positive.
- 2:58This particular client believed in heaven, and one of the people
- 3:03that I think is quite well known that represents a defiant
- 3:06archetype is a guy called David Goggins.
- 3:08And if you're familiar with David Goggins, he's a very
- 3:10extreme character. The title of his book is called
- 3:13Can't Hurt Me, which gives you an idea of that kind of defiant
- 3:17nature. And I could see parallels
- 3:20between David Goggins and the client that I was working with.
- 3:22And there's a very famous thing that David Goggin says in one of
- 3:27the Joe Rogan podcasts about how he was able to harness this
- 3:31defiant nature. And he talks about arriving in
- 3:34heaven and being shown all of these incredible accomplishments
- 3:40and then figuring out that that's the version of him that
- 3:43he could have been. And he was able to harness this
- 3:46defiant nature to accomplish very difficult, challenging
- 3:52things. So he was able to harness it for
- 3:55a powerful, empowering way rather than just an aggressive
- 4:00way. Some define people just become
- 4:02belligerent and and rude all the time.
- 4:04They see conflict with other people, but it can be harnessed
- 4:08positively. So I take that and use it as a a
- 4:12way of them framing that if they continue with this pathway that
- 4:17they're on, then they might feel drained, but they also might
- 4:21feel like all of this worry about conflict prevented them
- 4:24from actually doing what they actually wanted to do with their
- 4:28life. And that is they had a deep
- 4:29feeling that they were going to be great and accomplish a lot.
- 4:33So it's really designed to do this.
- 4:35So part of it is a compelling vision for the future and part
- 4:38of it is parts integration therapy and some in the child
- 4:41work as well. This will resonate most with
- 4:44people that feel life is treating them unfairly, that
- 4:50people are out to get them. People don't have confidence in
- 4:52them and everyone at some level has this polarity response where
- 5:00if people doubt them, they've got this desire to prove them
- 5:03wrong. So it can be harnessed in a very
- 5:06good, powerful way. And that's what's going on in
- 5:09this session. And I want you to think about
- 5:11who doubts you, who wants to see you fail because that way by
- 5:15thinking about those people that can harness this defiant nature
- 5:18in a really positive way for you to.
- 5:20Obviously it was created for an individual circumstances.
- 5:24This client did experience physical abuse that might not
- 5:27have been your past. So just ignore any suggestions
- 5:29that aren't relevant. Hone into any empowering
- 5:32suggestions that are and if you do like the idea of a bespoke
- 5:37session working with me, have a little look in the show notes or
- 5:41check out my website adamcox.co.uk and you'll see a
- 5:44link where you can book a free consultation call and we can
- 5:46have a chat. For now though, find a quiet,
- 5:49comfortable place where you won't be disturbed.
- 5:51Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 6:48you breathe in, breathe in that feeling of calm relaxation.
- 6:55And as you exhale, just allow yourself to feel like you're
- 7:01drifting into a place of relaxation.
- 7:07Breathing in what feels useful, resourceful, and exhaling.
- 7:17Anything that feels like it's been draining you.
- 7:22Anything that feels like it's stealing your energy, just allow
- 7:29that thing to leave your body in your outward breath.
- 7:36Scan your body for any clues of not just tension, but
- 7:43sensations, pressures, and give permission to any sensations,
- 7:52tensions, stresses or strains to melt away, to be released, to
- 8:01let go. And just allow it to leave your
- 8:06body in that outward breath, enabling you to feel deeper and
- 8:16deeper, relaxed. And the deeper you breathe, the
- 8:22more relaxed you become. And the more relaxed you become,
- 8:27the deeper you breathe. And I wonder if you can use the
- 8:32power of your imagination to imagine an old photo album you
- 8:45remember, the ones leather bound, small photographs in
- 8:51plastic sleeves. Just imagine flicking through
- 8:56that photo album. And I want you to see yourself
- 9:03at a very young age, maybe three or four or five a time when life
- 9:14was kind. See yourself with no need to be
- 9:21defiant or tough. And if you can see a photo of
- 9:28yourself like that, just let me know by nodding your head.
- 9:31I don't want you to imagine going back almost like you're
- 9:41stepping into a photo, seeing that younger version of you
- 9:46before there was too much injustice, cruelty, even abuse.
- 9:58I want you to imagine giving that younger version of you
- 10:08either some advice, insight, or perhaps a resource that would
- 10:14mean that any future injustice punishment could be harnessed in
- 10:24a powerful, positive way. They say the strongest trees
- 10:34have weathered the fiercest storms.
- 10:38I want you to get a sense. Then the gift you're giving that
- 10:43younger version of you is to harness.
- 10:51Harness things that you know will happen in a way that works
- 10:56for you, not against you. You don't have to know exactly
- 11:03what that is. It could just be an essence, an
- 11:10energy, a resource, a quality, and see that younger version of
- 11:15you taking that resource. Jump out of the photo and flick
- 11:22through the photo album and I want you to see a picture of you
- 11:31covered in bruises, perhaps alone in a room, and then jump
- 11:39into that photo. At your current age, with all of
- 11:44your experiences, I want you to see that younger version of you
- 11:55and you know that they are in a particular emotional state.
- 12:02Maybe there is clues of anger, sadness or defiance.
- 12:12You are the only one that can truly empathise because this is
- 12:16your past. But this is past plus
- 12:25perspective. You're able to see that same
- 12:29moment different now because of everything that's followed.
- 12:39I want you to let that younger version of you know that what
- 12:45happened was not acceptable, fair or OK, and that sometimes
- 12:54life is just like that, cruel and unfair.
- 13:01But sometimes the unfairness presents you with a gift.
- 13:11Much like a Trojan horse had something hidden inside, what if
- 13:19these harsh, unfair experiences also had something valuable
- 13:27hidden inside? We need to tell that younger
- 13:34version of you then. Not everyone is out to get them.
- 13:41We need to tell that younger version of you then.
- 13:52Pain is temporary and suffering is optional.
- 14:02That the only tragedy here be if temporary pain and optional
- 14:09suffering is carried with them like a heavyweight on their
- 14:16back, continuing to drain energy long after these moments.
- 14:30I want you to get a sense that that younger version of you is
- 14:33realising what if they can take the useful stuff and leave the
- 14:41rest? Like the old pioneers panning
- 14:46for gold. We kept the Nuggets of gold and
- 14:53all of that silt and stones, pebbles and soil.
- 14:59They got thrown away. What if you're able to take the
- 15:06Nuggets of gold from your past and leave all the rest to be
- 15:13washed away in a stream? Breathe in and breathe down.
- 15:25And I want you to tell yourself the words that you wanted to
- 15:28hear back then. Positive, encouraging words.
- 15:35Not words that toughen you up. Words that just are an echo
- 15:42Chamber of the stuff they've heard from other people, but
- 15:46what you really needed to hear back then.
- 15:53Maybe that they are loved, worthy, destined for great
- 16:00things. That at some point all of this
- 16:09will make sense, that will help rather than hinder.
- 16:22I want you to give that younger version of you a gift.
- 16:26The gift of extracting wisdom. Without this gift, this child
- 16:33would become an adult that just replays mistakes on a loop again
- 16:39and again. But all it takes to turn that
- 16:46into the gift of wisdom is to play different scenarios of how
- 16:54you would have wanted it to have been.
- 16:58You're giving this gift to a younger version of you, which
- 17:00means then you still possess that gift even now because you
- 17:07gave it to a version of you in your past.
- 17:13So let's try that out. Think of a recent mistake that
- 17:18you've been replaying, but this time the mistake is only
- 17:26replayed once and the next thought is how it could be done
- 17:32different either from a third person perspective or a first
- 17:38person perspective. All the different connotations,
- 17:43iterations. You can include different
- 17:51variables, your emotions are different, your decisions are
- 18:00different. You can even change the
- 18:05chronology. Sometimes the same thing is
- 18:10happening with a different sequence.
- 18:13Change everything. Sometimes the same word said
- 18:17with a different tonality change everything.
- 18:23And notice when you replay a mistake with constant
- 18:28connotations, you become like Goldilocks, testing 50 different
- 18:35bowls of porridge until you find the one that is exactly the
- 18:39right one. And when you find the right one,
- 18:46that becomes the one that you relive.
- 18:49So you're training your mind to get better and better in all
- 18:55areas of your life. That part wanted.
- 19:01High standards will now utilise this strategy to really give you
- 19:09high standards. High standards doesn't come from
- 19:15reminding someone of a mistake, it comes from learning from a
- 19:19mistake. And if that part has been
- 19:25responsible for replaying these mistakes, is now willing to
- 19:30evolve them to learn from them. Let me know by nodding your head
- 19:41and when you think of future scenarios, it won't be people
- 19:47attacking you, criticising you, going against you.
- 19:54I want you to see scenarios of collaboration and harmony, of
- 20:02using communication and compromise, not conflict.
- 20:07To take things forward. Because if we can extract wisdom
- 20:12from the past and prime for collaboration rather than
- 20:18conflict, isn't it the case that you need less of that adrenaline
- 20:24in your blood because there is no opponent to fight?
- 20:32In fact, there is only one opponent, the future version of
- 20:39you that gets trapped in a cycle of shame and criticism and self
- 20:49loathing. Find yourself back there looking
- 20:54that photo album. But I want you to go right to
- 20:59the end of the photo album, seeing you perhaps in your 80s,
- 21:04nineties or older, on your deathbed, see yourself just on
- 21:13the verge of dying. And you get a sense then that
- 21:21version of you could be many different people, In fact
- 21:26infinite connotations of that version of you.
- 21:33But I want you to see that version of you at the very end
- 21:37of your life. And I want you to imagine
- 21:42accompanying that version of you that passes from this life into
- 21:49the afterlife, accompany that version into heaven.
- 22:00I want you to imagine God is showing you, you and them all of
- 22:12the incredible impact, accomplishments, significant
- 22:17things that you've done, wonderful things.
- 22:27And I want you to get a sense that some of them don't feel
- 22:32real. And you can see that older
- 22:35version of you confused, asking God, what are all these things?
- 22:44And then God letting that older version of you know this is the
- 22:51person you were meant to be, the person of you that you were
- 22:55supposed to be, and feel like you're extracting that wisdom
- 23:02now. Mistakes aren't getting things
- 23:07wrong. The only mistake is to live a
- 23:12life that you would regret. But if you either win or you
- 23:17learn, the only way to have a truly regretful life is to not
- 23:25even try to do these things that you would want to do.
- 23:30I want you to feel that knowing what you now know, what if you
- 23:40get to go back to the present moment and make a change?
- 23:47To find harmony and alliances within yourself rather than
- 23:52conflict. For many years now you've been
- 23:58fighting yourself, but you are not the enemy.
- 24:08I'm going to ask all of your unconscious parts if they are
- 24:13now willing to work in harmony, in collaboration.
- 24:20To steer your future self into a version of you that is filled
- 24:27with pride, accomplishment, purpose and fulfilment.
- 24:36And if these parts are willing to take all of this energy
- 24:40that's been used for internal squabbling and now deploy it to
- 24:45move your life forward where your only enemy is avoiding the
- 24:52person that you don't want to be.
- 24:57So if all parts are willing to work in harmony towards that
- 24:59goal, being a version of you that you're proud of, let me
- 25:07know by nodding your head. And every now and then these
- 25:13parts will fall into old habits, and that's OK, so long as you
- 25:21learn from them. Progress isn't a straight line.
- 25:29Sometimes it's 2 steps forward, one step back.
- 25:35This isn't a reason for inner criticism, it's a reason for re
- 25:41evaluation, re galvanizing. What if you, as the conscious
- 25:49mind, are a general of unconscious troops?
- 25:57Don't you need a mission of vision to galvanise all of those
- 26:02unconscious parts to 1 grand mission?
- 26:10Have that eye on that prize moving forward, perhaps with
- 26:15things that have to be challenging, stimulating,
- 26:19exciting. Too easy.
- 26:22These parts get bored. These parts that thrive on
- 26:29proving people wrong, going against the odds they've been
- 26:34bored. They need something to challenge
- 26:39them and stimulate them. And since you're the general,
- 26:44only you decide what the mission is and then manage those
- 26:50unconscious troops towards mission after mission that takes
- 26:57your life into a wonderful, positive new direction.
- 27:06And as you flip back through the pages, see us some of those
- 27:10photos that haven't happened yet, showing moments of
- 27:14accomplishment, of pride, of harmony, the things that would
- 27:19make your life full of meaning, wonderful sense of pride and
- 27:26accomplishment. There'll be clues and memories
- 27:31that haven't happened yet. And if you get a sense of things
- 27:36that would take you out of the comfort zone where you get to
- 27:43deploy these resources that have been spent internally squabbling
- 27:50to now pursue something challenging but meaningful.
- 27:57If you have an idea of what these things could be.
- 28:00Or maybe just let me know about nodding your head.
- 28:05And remember, not enough challenges.
- 28:09These parts get bored and will start to squabble with
- 28:13themselves again. You're the general galvanise
- 28:19these unconscious troops towards big missions, big goals, big
- 28:28challenges that enrich your life and move you forward.
- 28:32And with that in mind, just imagine closing that photo
- 28:40album. But as you do, imagine walking
- 28:45around in your imagination, feeling lighter, feeling like a
- 28:50big heavy bag that you've been carrying around for years, that
- 28:55may even feel like emotional baggage, or even a suit of
- 28:59armour designed to keep you safe isn't necessary anymore to leave
- 29:08that bag or that suit of armour behind.
- 29:11You needed it then, you don't need it now.
- 29:16And in doing so you will have more energy, better sleep, you
- 29:22will feel safe and comfortable and have the feeling that people
- 29:28want to help you. People like you, they want you
- 29:33to do well and therefore you will project an evolved version
- 29:40of yourself that is wired for collaboration, not conflict.
- 29:50Time to return to the present moment, but taking these changes
- 29:53with you. So take a deep breath in through
- 29:57your nose and out through your nose.
- 30:02Just wiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes.
- 30:04Start to connect and calibrate in the here and the now as I now
- 30:08count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 30:13Starting to count 123 waking up 456 more alert 7-8.
- 30:21Open your eyes. Open your eyes 910 Wide awake,
- 30:24Wide awake. Wide awake.
