- 1:14Speaker 2: by play voice of the Islanders coming up with us
- 1:16Speaker 2: in just a bit. We'll dive into how the Islanders
- 1:19Speaker 2: have reached this point as well, very much in the
- 1:22Speaker 2: mix on the Eastern Conference side at twelve eight and
- 1:25Speaker 2: two twenty six points, and like the Kraken, in sniffing
- 1:29Speaker 2: distance a first place in their division. We'll talk Matt Barzela,
- 1:33Speaker 2: we'll talk Bowl Horvat and indeed this past summer's first
- 1:37Speaker 2: overall pick, Matthew Schaeffer already turning plenty of aheads with
- 1:41Speaker 2: the work that he's doing right back on the Islander's
- 1:44Speaker 2: blue line. We'll talk about those challenges here on the
- 1:46Speaker 2: Kraken side, coming up in just a bit, But before that,
- 1:50Speaker 2: here's how the Kraken kept pace in the Pacific Division
- 1:53Speaker 2: with a record of eleven five and five twenty seven
- 1:56Speaker 2: points and two back of first play Santaheim. The Kraken
- 2:01Speaker 2: last evening heading into Pittsburgh knowing they were going to
- 2:03Speaker 2: be in for a stip challenge because the Penguins had
- 2:06Speaker 2: dropped a five nothing loss the night before at home
- 2:09Speaker 2: to the Minnesota Wild. Not to mention, Sidney Prosby is
- 2:13Speaker 2: the kind of guy who doesn't take these games lightly,
- 2:16Speaker 2: averaging over a point per game in the following game
- 2:20Speaker 2: after a loss. But the Kraken, getting through a scoreless
- 2:23Speaker 2: tie in period one went right to work in period two,
- 2:28Speaker 2: as we take you on an audio thrill ride where
- 2:31Speaker 2: the calls here from Everetten now.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Turns away from Maddy buteers.
- 2:35Speaker 5: This one flipped up to the boards, knocked down by Marchman,
- 2:37Speaker 5: but he gives it right back and we'll steal it
- 2:40Speaker 5: right back. Marchmen fires scores, they said, march Ben puts
- 2:46Speaker 5: the cracket on the board, won nothing, eighteen thirty six
- 2:50Speaker 5: to play in the period. He was so excited when
- 2:54Speaker 5: he celebrated that he to picked and a face planted
- 2:58Speaker 5: on the ice. I'm sorry for lap Bush cracking on
- 3:01Speaker 5: the board.
- 3:02Speaker 6: And well it was Marsham with that kept the puck
- 3:04Speaker 6: in at the offensive blue line there, kept it deep
- 3:07Speaker 6: and then hung around the top of the circles and
- 3:09Speaker 6: got a gift from the Penguins defenseman which was the
- 3:13Speaker 6: puck and uh shot from the top of the circles
- 3:16Speaker 6: beats for her Bershov. It's one nothing.
- 3:18Speaker 5: Grindor Dor left wing still send this in By and Grubauer.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Out to play it.
- 3:23Speaker 5: Saner faded front, Tour out to Crosby.
- 3:26Speaker 3: He scores.
- 3:31Speaker 5: Sidney Crosby in the slot. Connor Tour picked up the
- 3:36Speaker 5: puck in the left corner. Grubauer came out to play
- 3:38Speaker 5: it a little slow getting back into the goal.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Penguin on the board were at Sidney Crosby again near
- 3:44Speaker 3: side to the corner.
- 3:46Speaker 5: Malkin back to Crosby right wing, bump past the kendle,
- 3:49Speaker 5: Malcolm down low center the pass in front. Seattle knocks
- 3:52Speaker 5: it free and lose butt there, he said.
- 3:55Speaker 3: They score Guinea Malkin.
- 4:03Speaker 5: On about the eighth pop check able to squeeze it
- 4:08Speaker 5: on through by Groobauer and the Penguins take their first
- 4:14Speaker 5: lead of the game, two to one with fourteen oh
- 4:18Speaker 5: four left in the thirds on the left wing gives
- 4:21Speaker 5: it up to Mason Marshmant backside from an ear Settles
- 4:23Speaker 5: shoots stooms Maddy Baneers from the right circle as he
- 4:30Speaker 5: tucks it up over the shoulder of miroshav And in
- 4:34Speaker 5: the Seattle cracket tie the game in the third two
- 4:38Speaker 5: two seven twenty four to go in regulation, Well it.
- 4:42Speaker 6: Was everly in front of the net haad dumb, but
- 4:43Speaker 6: tied up that gave Matty Benier's space behind the bottom
- 4:47Speaker 6: of the circles over on that right side. He got
- 4:49Speaker 6: a fantastic feet from Marchman had all the time and
- 4:51Speaker 6: the day to roof it. This game's tied up to
- 4:54Speaker 6: row through center left side, over the blue line.
- 4:57Speaker 5: Good drow to the line Montor walks in sh stars Montemania.
- 5:06Speaker 5: In overtime in Pittsburgh, it's a three to two Seattle
- 5:11Speaker 5: crack and win.
- 5:13Speaker 6: What a great feed that Mantra received just inside the
- 5:15Speaker 6: middle of the blue line of the offensive end. He
- 5:17Speaker 6: has tons of time to get his space up. He
- 5:19Speaker 6: beats murshov low crack and win three two. Bring on
- 5:24Speaker 6: the funnel cake.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Oh you bet those funnel cakes tastes sweet. Indeed the
- 5:28Speaker 2: cracking picking up there for victory in sudden death overtime
- 5:32Speaker 2: two and one. Now on the road trip through three games,
- 5:35Speaker 2: heading into the fourth and final game. Here for today,
- 5:39Speaker 2: Mason March Mit Maddy Benier's that duo looking for breakout games.
- 5:43Speaker 2: They got them. Marsh been picking up this first goal
- 5:45Speaker 2: since opening night, Veniers snapping out of an eight game
- 5:48Speaker 2: goal scoring drought and both players picking up multi point
- 5:52Speaker 2: games in the process. Not to mention the penalty kill
- 5:55Speaker 2: coming through in a big kind of way three kills
- 5:58Speaker 2: in period one win. It looked a bit bleak with
- 6:01Speaker 2: the crack and face in the league's best power play
- 6:03Speaker 2: and Philip Grubauer, what else can you say but terrific
- 6:06Speaker 2: turning in a thirty one save effort. Here's a reaction
- 6:09Speaker 2: after the game from crackinghead coach Lane Lambert meeting with
- 6:13Speaker 2: the media in Pittsburgh.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Again, I think we can build on our third period
- 6:17Speaker 4: in terms of you know, when we got down, I
- 6:19Speaker 4: thought we you know, started to make more plays and
- 6:21Speaker 4: create more stuff offensively. I think we have to do that.
- 6:23Speaker 4: We have to do that right from the get go.
- 6:26Speaker 4: But you know, we defended as hard as we could.
- 6:30Speaker 4: You know, I thought our goaltender played a great game,
- 6:33Speaker 4: and you know, there's no question that we're going to
- 6:36Speaker 4: be right back at it here not too many hours.
- 6:38Speaker 4: So we just have to make sure that we focus
- 6:41Speaker 4: in and you know, be good with our structure tomorrow.
- 6:44Speaker 4: How valuable is Brandon Montur in the role that he's
- 6:46Speaker 4: played for this team, especially through the last week or so. Yeah, well,
- 6:50Speaker 4: he's an extremely valuable guy. He started to kill penalties
- 6:53Speaker 4: now a little bit now that he's got his feet
- 6:55Speaker 4: under him here after taking you know, having to take
- 6:57Speaker 4: some time off there, and you know, it's really nice
- 7:00Speaker 4: to see him score.
- 7:01Speaker 6: Marchman told me that he told himself coming into this
- 7:03Speaker 6: game that he was not passing up any single opportunity to.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Shoot the buck.
- 7:07Speaker 3: How nice was it to see him.
- 7:08Speaker 4: Finally get rewarded. Yeah, I mean, I like the fact
- 7:11Speaker 4: that he doesn't pass off opportunities. We need to continue
- 7:13Speaker 4: doing that as a as an entire group. But you know,
- 7:16Speaker 4: he's played very well, you know, for at least a
- 7:19Speaker 4: couple of weeks now, he's been a force out there.
- 7:22Speaker 4: He's making plays, he's using his body, he's playing well
- 7:25Speaker 4: for us.
- 7:26Speaker 6: Then you've been a big believer in your penalty kill
- 7:28Speaker 6: pretty much the whole season, but you must have really
- 7:31Speaker 6: been impressed with them tonight in terms of what they
- 7:33Speaker 6: did out there.
- 7:34Speaker 4: Well, they did a good job in the first period, certainly,
- 7:36Speaker 4: you know, given that that group three power plays, you know,
- 7:39Speaker 4: the game could have got away on us early, you know,
- 7:42Speaker 4: and we did a good job. It just seems like,
- 7:46Speaker 4: you know, it just seems like for whatever reason, you know,
- 7:50Speaker 4: we just can't quite keep it out of our net
- 7:53Speaker 4: for sixty minutes. In terms of that on the kill,
- 7:55Speaker 4: you know, one kind of bounced around. We did everything
- 7:58Speaker 4: right and you know it just kind of ends up
- 8:00Speaker 4: in the spot from all kin to punch it in.
- 8:03Speaker 4: But you know, I think there's been some improvement center
- 8:05Speaker 4: penalty killed a little bit. We've made a couple of
- 8:07Speaker 4: changes and we're going to continue growing.
- 8:09Speaker 3: We talked about Maddie this week, but what did you
- 8:11Speaker 3: see on this going play from him?
- 8:14Speaker 4: Well, first full he played well, but he just saw
- 8:17Speaker 4: he saw an opportunity. I thought their goalie maybe potentially
- 8:20Speaker 4: went down a little bit early, and you know that
- 8:23Speaker 4: was a that was a snipe. So really good for
- 8:26Speaker 4: our hockey team that he you know that he was
- 8:28Speaker 4: able to do that.
- 8:29Speaker 2: All right, end up, back to back, coming up here
- 8:31Speaker 2: for today the only trip of the crake in two
- 8:33Speaker 2: ubs are gonna take it on the New York Islanders
- 8:36Speaker 2: and we have all the action for you a little
- 8:37Speaker 2: bit later on here. But a great pleasure to have
- 8:39Speaker 2: Alan Fearing join us now on cracking this morning. He
- 8:42Speaker 2: is the new play by play voice of the Islanders
- 8:45Speaker 2: on the radio side eighty eight seven FM w r
- 8:48Speaker 2: HU on Long Island. I said that correctly, not in
- 8:52Speaker 2: Long Island. I know that might be a subject here
- 8:55Speaker 2: to to disciplinary action, but I nailed it here off
- 8:59Speaker 2: the jump here.
- 8:59Speaker 3: I'm for that.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Great to have you, though, Alan, how are you? And
- 9:03Speaker 2: I got to ask you first off? You know you
- 9:05Speaker 2: like me, and you know Brendan Burke, Evert Fitz he
- 9:08Speaker 2: was well on the crack inside of things here. We
- 9:10Speaker 2: all share one common bond, the journey from the ECHL
- 9:13Speaker 2: to the NHL. I mean, you're at you're at this
- 9:16Speaker 2: level now. It's great to be here. But I mean
- 9:18Speaker 2: what advice would you give to younger broadcasters looking to
- 9:22Speaker 2: make that jump years down the road.
- 9:24Speaker 7: Yeah. Well, first of all, Mike, thanks so much for
- 9:26Speaker 7: having me, and you nailed it on Long Island. And
- 9:29Speaker 7: even if you mess that up, you can get away
- 9:31Speaker 7: with that. I cannot get away with that on the Island.
- 9:34Speaker 7: Can't get away with that either. We would be out
- 9:37Speaker 7: of a job. No, I'm kidding, you know, very very
- 9:41Speaker 7: excited to talk with you again. Thanks for having me,
- 9:43Speaker 7: and I think the number one piece of advice I
- 9:45Speaker 7: would give any young broadcaster those who are currently in
- 9:48Speaker 7: the EHL is seat time, right, Like, just call games,
- 9:53Speaker 7: call as many games as you can, hockey games, other
- 9:56Speaker 7: sports as well. Just keep getting reps, do the job,
- 10:01Speaker 7: listen back to your stuff. Notice where you can get better,
- 10:05Speaker 7: And generally it's the Malcolm Gladwell, you know ten thousand
- 10:09Speaker 7: hours rule in that you know it takes a long
- 10:13Speaker 7: time to get into a position where you feel good
- 10:15Speaker 7: about your call and you get to a level that
- 10:18Speaker 7: can earn you a step up to the American Hockey
- 10:20Speaker 7: League and then the NHL. So just call as many
- 10:23Speaker 7: games as possible, get see time as I call it,
- 10:26Speaker 7: and you know, it's amazing how quickly you'll get better.
- 10:29Speaker 2: There's something that NHL players have in common and it
- 10:32Speaker 2: doesn't really make a difference here between young and ol
- 10:34Speaker 2: those they're always looking fear for ways to get better
- 10:36Speaker 2: every day, and I think that goes here for us
- 10:39Speaker 2: and our profession as well.
- 10:40Speaker 3: And I think one.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Great example of a guy who's already doing this and
- 10:43Speaker 2: it seems like he's already about twenty six years of age,
- 10:47Speaker 2: is a guy that you've caught on this blue line
- 10:49Speaker 2: and he's only eighteen in Matthew Schaeffer, My word, what
- 10:52Speaker 2: a prodigy, What a talent, What a future he's got,
- 10:56Speaker 2: and we're already talking about superstar marketing. As far as
- 10:59Speaker 2: he's cancerned here from the East Coast side of things,
- 11:02Speaker 2: he's already earning Cale mccarr comparisons. And there's even talk
- 11:06Speaker 2: now that Team Canada could be considering sending him here
- 11:10Speaker 2: to the Olympics. So I boil it down to this,
- 11:13Speaker 2: what kind of impact has he made this year for
- 11:15Speaker 2: the Islanders?
- 11:16Speaker 7: Alan, Yeah, you know what, he's a kid who has
- 11:18Speaker 7: made everybody better. He's a great locker room guy. You know,
- 11:22Speaker 7: he's a kid who's humble, but he's confident, and the
- 11:26Speaker 7: guys have really taken him under their wing, whether it's veterans,
- 11:30Speaker 7: when it's guys who have only been in the league
- 11:32Speaker 7: a couple of years. You know, he's quite the glue
- 11:35Speaker 7: for the locker room and a big reason why the
- 11:37Speaker 7: Islanders are playing so well right now. You know, you
- 11:41Speaker 7: mentioned like he came into the league as the number
- 11:43Speaker 7: one overall pick back in June and he had a
- 11:45Speaker 7: huge expectation. But we're still trying to figure out where
- 11:49Speaker 7: the ceiling is and if there is one. You know,
- 11:53Speaker 7: a lot of us on Long Islander are cautious to
- 11:56Speaker 7: compare him to Cale mccarr, to like a Bobby or
- 12:01Speaker 7: but just the fact that we're having this discussion and
- 12:03Speaker 7: those names are starting to be a little synonymous with
- 12:06Speaker 7: Matthew Shaper is is quite something. You know, you mentioned
- 12:10Speaker 7: earlier this week, he's been added to the drug testing
- 12:12Speaker 7: program for Team Canada, so it looks like he may
- 12:16Speaker 7: be on Team Canada's radar for the Olympics, something that
- 12:19Speaker 7: when he was drafted that wasn't even a thought, and
- 12:22Speaker 7: now all of a sudden, it's not that far fetched
- 12:23Speaker 7: and maybe a reality. So I told the guys on
- 12:27Speaker 7: Serious XM a couple of weeks ago that, you know,
- 12:30Speaker 7: for the folks who are in the middle of the
- 12:32Speaker 7: country or who are out west in your case, like
- 12:35Speaker 7: you've seen the video, you've heard about him, you've read
- 12:38Speaker 7: about how good Matthew Shaper is, but until you see
- 12:41Speaker 7: him in person, it's a whole different world. You know,
- 12:44Speaker 7: the kid is so fast, he's got such a long wingspan,
- 12:48Speaker 7: His hockey IQ is off the charts. He's really good
- 12:50Speaker 7: in his defensive zone. He's great offensively as shown by
- 12:53Speaker 7: the numbers, and you know, just he pops even more
- 12:56Speaker 7: in person. So I've had a number of people tell
- 12:59Speaker 7: me after seeing him why for the first time, say like, look,
- 13:02Speaker 7: I knew this kid was good. I didn't know he
- 13:04Speaker 7: was that good. And you know, folks on Long Island
- 13:07Speaker 7: and here in the Tri state area in the Northeast
- 13:10Speaker 7: are real privileged to have this kid. What looks like
- 13:14Speaker 7: it could be for the next twenty years.
- 13:15Speaker 2: And so the Islander is open the season losing three
- 13:18Speaker 2: in a row, and did they ever turn the season
- 13:21Speaker 2: around ever since?
- 13:22Speaker 6: Then?
- 13:23Speaker 3: Twelve four and two. Now that's a record.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Ilia Sarrokan, you use the word swagger to describe how
- 13:28Speaker 2: they're feeling at the very end of this last road
- 13:31Speaker 2: trip here. So what do we know about the Islanders
- 13:33Speaker 2: so far this season at the twenty five percent checkpoint
- 13:37Speaker 2: under Patrick Watt?
- 13:38Speaker 7: Yeah, we know that they are a very good hockey
- 13:40Speaker 7: team and they have every piece to compete and perhaps
- 13:43Speaker 7: make a run when we get to the spring. Health
- 13:46Speaker 7: is a big one, as it is with any team.
- 13:48Speaker 7: But you know, they've got a world class goalie who
- 13:51Speaker 7: had a rough couple of games to start this season.
- 13:53Speaker 7: But he's found his groove and he's playing every bit
- 13:56Speaker 7: of the ilias serrocan as a bold off your biggest box.
- 14:01Speaker 7: There is a reliable piece of Creeks. But then also
- 14:03Speaker 7: David Riddick got signed as the backup and he's been unbelievable.
- 14:07Speaker 7: He's already won five times this season in seven starts,
- 14:10Speaker 7: so you know when Soroken needs a day off, they
- 14:13Speaker 7: have a guy who can easily get a win in
- 14:16Speaker 7: the backup role in David Riddick, and a guy who's
- 14:17Speaker 7: a former All Star in the NHL, so that part
- 14:21Speaker 7: of the equation is solved.
- 14:22Speaker 3: You know.
- 14:22Speaker 7: Defensively, they were a little weak to start. Very much
- 14:26Speaker 7: a fast paced, up tempo offense, one that can score
- 14:29Speaker 7: a lot of goals. Both Horbats right there at the
- 14:32Speaker 7: top of the leader board in the NHL, I think,
- 14:33Speaker 7: only trailing Nathan McKinnon. So you know they've got the offense,
- 14:38Speaker 7: and then the defense was the question. You know, could
- 14:40Speaker 7: they tighten up, could they be a little bit more sharp?
- 14:43Speaker 7: And they have been a recent seven game road trip
- 14:46Speaker 7: and won six of those games, and while the offense
- 14:49Speaker 7: showed up, so did the defense, and a couple of
- 14:51Speaker 7: those games were shutouts, So that's creditaillious Sorocan, but also
- 14:55Speaker 7: the defense as well. Again, to answer your question, I
- 14:58Speaker 7: think the first three games the year started to zwin three,
- 15:01Speaker 7: but they played some pretty good hockey, didn't get the results,
- 15:05Speaker 7: and then the results started to come and I think
- 15:08Speaker 7: at that point we knew that it was a very
- 15:10Speaker 7: exciting team to watch. It was just a little bit inconsistent.
- 15:14Speaker 7: Now they found that consistency, and again I think as
- 15:16Speaker 7: long as they stay healthy, this is a team that's
- 15:18Speaker 7: going to be in the top third of the standings
- 15:19Speaker 7: for most of the year.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Al on the first name that a lot of US
- 15:23Speaker 2: West Coasters and around the Puget Sound go to as
- 15:25Speaker 2: far as recognition on this Islander team as Matt Barzel
- 15:28Speaker 2: for obvious reasons previously with the Seattle Thunderbirds before he
- 15:32Speaker 2: made it all the way in a direct jump here
- 15:34Speaker 2: to the NHL. But a bit of a bump in
- 15:36Speaker 2: the road that he had, of course in late October
- 15:38Speaker 2: miss a team bus was a healthy scratch as well.
- 15:41Speaker 3: How did he respond?
- 15:42Speaker 7: Yeah, he was great, and he was He'd be the
- 15:45Speaker 7: first one to tell you that he felt bad about it.
- 15:47Speaker 7: It was an honest mistake. He actually didn't miss any meetings.
- 15:52Speaker 7: He was there at the rink on time for the meetings.
- 15:54Speaker 7: He just happened to miss the bus. So you know,
- 15:58Speaker 7: he owned up to it. Matthew Darsh Patrick Wab both
- 16:01Speaker 7: said that look like we have no ill will or
- 16:05Speaker 7: hard feelings on Matt Barzel. It happens. It happens a lot.
- 16:08Speaker 7: You know. Sometimes it happens with a lot of teams.
- 16:10Speaker 7: You don't even hear about it, but you know they
- 16:12Speaker 7: Matthew Darsh came in and was very punctual and said,
- 16:15Speaker 7: you know, there are going to be certain rules and
- 16:17Speaker 7: and everybody's got to follow him. It doesn't matter if
- 16:19Speaker 7: you're you know, Matt Barzell or you know a veteran
- 16:23Speaker 7: or you know a first year player. Everybody's got to
- 16:25Speaker 7: abide by the same rules. So, you know, Matt Barzell
- 16:28Speaker 7: talked about how difficult it was to sit and watch
- 16:31Speaker 7: and not play, and you know, he's responded very very well.
- 16:34Speaker 7: And I think he's got points in as of today,
- 16:37Speaker 7: it's like eight of his last nine or something off
- 16:39Speaker 7: to double to check that, but he's he's been productive.
- 16:42Speaker 3: The guy playing ahead of him right now.
- 16:44Speaker 2: The depth chart is maybe off to his best start
- 16:46Speaker 2: in years, and that's bou Horvat. Twenty five points so
- 16:49Speaker 2: far in twenty one games and the fourteen goals has
- 16:52Speaker 2: got him right around the conversation of the most productive
- 16:55Speaker 2: which includes Nathan McKinnon so far here in this league.
- 16:58Speaker 3: What version of Bowl or.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Vat are the Islanders getting so far this season?
- 17:02Speaker 7: Allen, Yeah, they're getting the Boat or Vat that was
- 17:05Speaker 7: a top player in the Western Conference and in the
- 17:08Speaker 7: NHL when he was with Vancouver. I think that was
- 17:10Speaker 7: back in twenty twenty two, twenty three, right around then.
- 17:14Speaker 7: He you know, he's he's been the top line center
- 17:17Speaker 7: from day one. He's found instant chemistry with Emil Hineman,
- 17:20Speaker 7: who was kind of an afterthought in the no adoptson
- 17:23Speaker 7: trade over this past summer, and he's emerged as one
- 17:26Speaker 7: of the best offensive guys for the Islanders. Those two,
- 17:31Speaker 7: again just just hit it off and kind of one
- 17:32Speaker 7: of those things where it only took two or three
- 17:35Speaker 7: games and now no what passes are connecting? Everybody knows
- 17:39Speaker 7: between those two, they know where they are on the ice,
- 17:41Speaker 7: and they've been able to do some special things and
- 17:43Speaker 7: both of them have really good shots. So when Emil
- 17:46Speaker 7: Hineman has the puck on that top line, everybody's got
- 17:49Speaker 7: to respect that. It leaves a little bit more room
- 17:51Speaker 7: for baut orbat and vice versa, and ba Orvett had
- 17:55Speaker 7: a couple of shots too that I mean just head
- 17:59Speaker 7: scratchers they go in. It's just he's got an unbelievable release,
- 18:02Speaker 7: and you know, like you mentioned right there at the
- 18:06Speaker 7: top of the NHL goal scoring list, he's been so
- 18:08Speaker 7: fun and he's been the top line center right from
- 18:11Speaker 7: the start of the year.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Finally here it's been a pretty big balancer between Ilia
- 18:15Speaker 2: Sarokan and David Rittick and that end, it looks like
- 18:17Speaker 2: that they really really play great here on this pass
- 18:20Speaker 2: road trip. I think depending upon the balance that Patrick
- 18:24Speaker 2: Wah has and where he wants to go, how much
- 18:27Speaker 2: have they been able to elevate what the Islanders have
- 18:30Speaker 2: been doing here for the season.
- 18:31Speaker 7: I mean, it all starts with them. They've just been
- 18:35Speaker 7: so solid and again a lot of games in November,
- 18:39Speaker 7: especially with the Olympic break, you know, the schedule gets
- 18:42Speaker 7: condensed so much more, and so you need a second option,
- 18:45Speaker 7: and you need two guys who can go back and
- 18:47Speaker 7: forth and you can trust both of them and that's
- 18:49Speaker 7: been the case so far. So you know, we're really
- 18:52Speaker 7: really happy with where those two are at. Simeon Barlamov
- 18:56Speaker 7: is not too far off. He's been progressing so a
- 18:59Speaker 7: lots to see what he's gets back in where you know,
- 19:02Speaker 7: he shakes out as far as the tandem goes. But
- 19:05Speaker 7: you know, I don't think anybody on Long Island expected
- 19:08Speaker 7: for David Riddick to play as well as he has
- 19:10Speaker 7: and for that one two punch to do as well
- 19:12Speaker 7: as it's been doing.
- 19:13Speaker 4: Well.
- 19:13Speaker 2: A lot of this has built the Islanders up into
- 19:16Speaker 2: contention status so far in the Metro Division.
- 19:18Speaker 3: It's going to be a.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Pretty good matchup, pretty tough matchup as well here for
- 19:21Speaker 2: the crack and ending back to back. But Alan, appreciate
- 19:24Speaker 2: the few moments, my friend, have a great call, and
- 19:26Speaker 2: one of these days you and I will be able
- 19:28Speaker 2: to cross pass, so looking forward to it. But in
- 19:30Speaker 2: the meantime, appreciate Chip have a good show man.
- 19:34Speaker 7: Yeah, thanks for having me. Good to catch up with you.
- 19:36Speaker 3: All right, Allan, thank you very much. Once again.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Alan Fearing joining us radio play by play voice of
- 19:41Speaker 2: the Islanders as a crack end coming in once more
- 19:44Speaker 2: off a game where they allowed US two goals to
- 19:46Speaker 2: a Pittsburgh team boasting bounced back years from Sydney Crosby
- 19:50Speaker 2: and of Guinny Malkin come in right now for best
- 19:53Speaker 2: defense in the entire league as far as goals against
- 19:55Speaker 2: allowed per game as stands at two point six. Islanders
- 20:00Speaker 2: were short circuited the other day, losing to one of
- 20:02Speaker 2: the Saint Louis Blues, but on their side offensively, bo
- 20:06Speaker 2: Horvat carrying plenty of mail this season, leading the way
- 20:09Speaker 2: with fourteen goals on the campaign. Just two players are
- 20:12Speaker 2: better right now in the NHL, Morgan Geeky with the
- 20:15Speaker 2: Boston Bruins with sixteen and your league leader Nathan McKinnon
- 20:19Speaker 2: with seventeen. Horvap, by the way, leads the Islanders with
- 20:23Speaker 2: twenty five points in twenty two games, but many arguing
- 20:27Speaker 2: Matthew Schaeffer at age eighteen, could be in the running
- 20:31Speaker 2: here for Team MVP. He's your Islanders leader in time
- 20:34Speaker 2: on ice per game at twenty two minutes and forty
- 20:37Speaker 2: eight seconds of pop. Not to mention he's been added
- 20:40Speaker 2: to Team Canada's ninety man lists of Olympic candidates here,
- 20:44Speaker 2: so can you believe that Matthew Schaeffer, just months ago
- 20:47Speaker 2: picked first overall, could be representing Canada in the upcoming
- 20:52Speaker 2: Winter Olympics. A lot to talk about here as both
- 20:55Speaker 2: teams again facing their second game of back to back.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Conventional wisdom, says Joe to Cord, getting rest yesterday could
- 21:02Speaker 2: be in net here for the Kraken, Islander's head coach
- 21:04Speaker 2: Patrick Wall already confirming with the media David Riddick will
- 21:08Speaker 2: start today with Ilia Sarrokin going yesterday, So a lot
- 21:13Speaker 2: to get to hope that you can be with us.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Here is a Kraken aiming for a three to one
- 21:17Speaker 2: road trip and a sweep through a back to bank
- 21:20Speaker 2: situation taking on the New York Islanders today at two
- 21:23Speaker 2: pm Pacific time, airtime at one thirty and again for
- 21:26Speaker 2: pregamer admission and postgame coverage. Come on down and hang
- 21:30Speaker 2: out with us at Tom's watch Bar right across the
- 21:33Speaker 2: streets from Climate Pledge Arena. Big thank you to Alan
- 21:37Speaker 2: Fearing for joining us and for Kraken this morning.
- 21:39Speaker 3: I'm Mike Benton. Enjoy the game and have a happy Sunday.
- 21:43Speaker 1: You're home for the Kraken. Sports Radio ninety three point
