Transcript
- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, February 3rd.
- 0:11More than silver and gold. Have you ever wanted something
- 0:14so badly that you were sure it would finally make you feel
- 0:17whole? Maybe it was something you saved
- 0:20up for, something you prayed for, or something you thought
- 0:23would fix the ache inside. And then you got it, and the
- 0:26emptiness was still there. That moment can be confusing,
- 0:31even disappointing, but it also reveals something important
- 0:34about how God works in our lives.
- 0:37Proverbs chapter 10, verse 3 tells us the Lord does not let
- 0:41the righteous go hungry, but He thwarts the craving of the
- 0:44wicked. God knows the difference between
- 0:47real hunger and misplaced craving.
- 0:50He knows what will truly sustain your soul, not just what feels
- 0:53urgent in the moment. He is committed to meeting real
- 0:56needs, not just temporary wants. We see this so clearly in Acts
- 1:00chapter 3. There's a man who had been
- 1:03unable to walk since birth. Every day he was placed at the
- 1:07beautiful gate of the temple, asking people for money.
- 1:10That was his routine. That was his survival plan.
- 1:14When Peter and John approached him, he expected what he always
- 1:17expected. A coin, a handout, a little help
- 1:20to get through another day. But what he received was so much
- 1:24more. Peter told him he didn't have
- 1:26silver or gold, but what he did have he gave him in the name of
- 1:31Jesus Christ. The man stood up.
- 1:33Acts chapter 3 verses 9 to 10 say that all the people saw him
- 1:37walking and praising God, and they recognized him as the same
- 1:41man who used to beg at the gate. His entire identity changed.
- 1:46He didn't just receive healing in his legs.
- 1:48He received a new life, a new future, and a new reason to
- 1:51praise God. So often we are like that man.
- 1:56We aim our expectations low because that's what we're used
- 1:59to. We ask God for quick fixes,
- 2:01surface solutions, or small comforts when He is offering
- 2:05transformation. We think we need relief, but God
- 2:08knows we need restoration. We think we need provision, but
- 2:12God knows we need purpose. We think we need approval, but
- 2:15God knows we need healing. God is not withholding good from
- 2:19you, He is protecting you from settling for less than His best.
- 2:23He knows what will truly satisfy you, strengthen you, and bring
- 2:27Him glory through your life. And when He moves, the change is
- 2:31noticeable. People see it.
- 2:33Your story becomes a testimony. Your praise becomes contagious.
- 2:37You may not always get what you expect from God, but you will
- 2:41receive what you need most. And what He gives will always be
- 2:44more valuable than silver or gold.
- 2:46Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank You that
- 2:50You see my true needs even when I misunderstand them.
- 2:53Forgive me for settling for quick fixes when You are
- 2:56offering lasting change. Help me to trust Your wisdom
- 3:00over my desires and to believe that what you give is always
- 3:03better than what I asked for. Open my eyes to recognize Your
- 3:07greater blessings and give me the courage to praise You openly
- 3:10and share what You have done in my life in Jesus name, Amen.

- 4:39World English Bible Yahweh will not allow the soul of the
- 4:42righteous to go hungry, but he thrusts away the desire of the
- 4:45wicked. Acts Chapter 3 World English
- 4:48Bible Peter and John were going up into the temple at the hour
- 4:52of prayer, the 9th hour. A certain man who was lame from
- 4:56his mother's womb was being carried, whom they laid daily at
- 4:59the door of the temple, which is called beautiful, to ask gifts
- 5:03for the needy of those who entered into the temple.
- 5:05Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to
- 5:08receive gifts for the needy. Peter, fastening his eyes on him
- 5:12with John, said, Look at us. He listened to them, expecting
- 5:16to receive something from them. But Peter said, I have no silver
- 5:20or gold, but what I have that I give you in the name of Jesus
- 5:23Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk.
- 5:26He took him by the right hand and raised him up.
- 5:28Immediately his feet and his ankle bones received strength.
- 5:32Leaping up, he stood and began to walk.
- 5:34He entered with them into the temple, walking, leaping and
- 5:37praising God. All the people saw him walking
- 5:40and praising God. They recognized him that it was
- 5:43he who used to sit begging for gifts for the needy at the
- 5:46beautiful gate of the temple. They were filled with wonder and
- 5:49amazement at what had happened to him.
- 5:52As the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all
- 5:55the people ran together to them in the porch that is called
- 5:58Solomon's, greatly wondering. When Peter saw it, he responded
- 6:02to the people. You men of Israel, why do you
- 6:05marvel at this man? Why do you fasten your eyes on
- 6:07us as though by our own power or godliness we had made Him walk?
- 6:11The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers,
- 6:15has glorified His servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied
- 6:19in the presence of pillate, when He had determined to release
- 6:22him. But you denied the holy and
- 6:24righteous one, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,
- 6:28and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead,
- 6:31to which we are witnesses by faith in His name.
- 6:34His name has made this man strong, whom you see and know.
- 6:38Yes, the faith which is through him has given him this perfect
- 6:41soundness in the presence of you all.
- 6:43Now, brothers, I know that you did this in ignorance, as did
- 6:47also your rulers. But the things which God
- 6:49announced by the mouth of all His prophets that Christ should
- 6:52suffer, he thus fulfilled. Repent therefore, and turn
- 6:56again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may
- 6:59come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord, and
- 7:02that He may send Christ Jesus, who was ordained for you, before
- 7:06whom heaven must receive, until the times of restoration of all
- 7:09things which God spoke long ago by the mouth of his holy
- 7:13prophets. For Moses indeed said to the
- 7:15fathers, The Lord God will raise up a prophet for you from among
- 7:19your brothers. Like me.
- 7:20You shall listen to Him in all things.
- 7:22Whatever he says to you. It will be that every soul that
- 7:25will not listen to that prophet will be utterly destroyed from
- 7:28among the people. Yes, and all the prophets from
- 7:31Samuel and those who followed after, as many as have spoken
- 7:35also told of these days. You are the children of the
- 7:38prophets and of the covenant which God made with our fathers,
- 7:41saying to Abraham, all the families of the earth will be
- 7:44blessed through your offspring. God having raised up his
- 7:48servant, Jesus sent him to you first to bless you in turning
- 7:51away everyone of you from your wickedness.
